Component Services (COM+) re-installation or repair: using Easy Transfer to setup a new pc breaks COM+????

Question: Component Services (COM+) re-installation or repair: using Easy Transfer to setup a new pc breaks COM+????

Recently I have noticed a third party application we are using in our company has not been working properly on certain computers. I contacted the vendor for support, and they said I should check if My Computer under Control Panel-->Administrative
Tools-->Component Services--> Computers has a red line through it. On all the computers where the app is not working, this line appears indicating that there is a problem with Component Services.
Doing some further research on the internet, I have found several posts that indicate that if a computer was setup using Easy Transfer, that this leads to a "broken" Component Services.
And indeed---every one of the computers with a broken Component Services was one that had been setup for a new user by using Easy Transfer. The issue with Component Services does not appear on computers that were a "clean" install.
So--I know my third-party app is not working properly because of a problem in COM+. There is info to indicate that using Easy Transfer somehow "breaks" Component Services---but no one seems to know how it does this. There is also no clear advice
or info on how to fix it properly. Just some general advice to "reinstall Windows".
Can anyone advise if it is possible to re-install or fix COM+ Component Services WITHOUT having to do a complete reinstall of Windows? I have setup quite a few pcs in my company using the Easy Transfer. Is a complete OS reinstall the
only way to fix this?

Preferred Solution: Component Services (COM+) re-installation or repair: using Easy Transfer to setup a new pc breaks COM+????

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Component Services (COM+) re-installation or repair: using Easy Transfer to setup a new pc breaks COM+????

Windows Easy Transfer helps you transfer your files, email, pictures and settings when moving to a new PC; Component Services are system components that cannot be transferred by means of Windows Easy Transfer.
You could try using the Windows 7 Recovery feature to perform a sort of "in place re-installation" of Windows 7 that could repair COM+: go to Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Recovery and click the "Advanced recovery methods" link and click
the "Reinstall Windows" option and insert the Windows 7 installation disc.

Hi Everybody,

I'm really in need of some help or advice with my laptop
Specs below:
Acer Aspire 5742
Intel i5-480M
6GB DDR3
Intel Graphics

It started when I needed to take the computer back to factory default with a fresh install. It was going back to Acer to have the charger point fixed (charger socket had become loose but still charged when it was held in).
I used the control panel interface to reinstall windows, all was going well until the laptop power died, I restarted the laptop and the screen displayed:

"setup is starting Services" a pop up box then appeared with

"the computer restarted unexpectedly or encounterd an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart installation."

I have searched around the net and found a few threads/guides but most require a repair disc or Installation disk. I have neither.
Is there any way of starting the install again? for example from Command Prompt?

Any advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks Aaron

I've read many posts about how to resolve issues attempting to install .net 3.5 features on Windows 8 in a corporate environment where an alternate WSUS location is specified by group policy.
On the client, you're supposed to set "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" in gpedit, which I HAVE gotten working.
However, I'd like to set my domain policy to this same setting so I needn't set it on all clients manually.  The setting isn't there under "Default Domain Policy"
Figuring it was a schema version for AD, and AD was missing Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 specific settings, I ran adprep /forestprep, /domainprep (told me there was no work to do), and /domainprep /gpprep (told me there was no work to do).
The "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" setting is still not available.  How do make this setting aware to AD?

One of the things made better with Vista is its Recovery Disc. I'm not too sure what SPECIFICALLY some of the features do so I'm basically wondering how far I can take some of its functions. In my following questions, I will ask something general and then something specific to my needs/purposes. (Remember that all the questions are for Windows Vista, 64-bit to be exact)-What parts of Windows does Windows Repair check for and which files does it fix/reinstall? (When I say files, I mean files that can affect things at a large scale, like registry entries.)-Does Windows Repair effect any of the installation entries related to the hardware?-What exactly does Windows Upgrade do?-Does Windows Upgrade effect any of the installation entries related to the hardware?*From my understanding, doesn't Windows Upgrade basically reinstall all of Windows, completely fresh, as if a clean install on a fresh disc, while keeping all your files/programs and their settings (basically everything else besides Windows files themselves)? If so, I don't see the problem in changing the motherboard and carrying on without formatting your hard drive. I think that it was just an impossibility/unlikelihood for XP.MOST IMPORTANT-What are the different things that can be done with Windows Easy Transfer (interesting new feature)?-Is Easy Transfer necessarily from computer to computer or can it be from hard drive to hard drive?*From what I understand/saw possible, Easy Transfer allows you to copy all of your fil... Hi,

First post coming up....

I have created a profile snapshot, using Windows Easy Transfer (WET) on a 32bit XP machine and have placed the resulting file on a network drive.
I then went to my new 64bit W7 pc and downloaded what I believed to be the correct WET version - wet7xp_x64. However, when I ran the executable I received a message "The version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install."
I'm running W7 Pro SP1 and have Sophos installed. However Sophos didn't have a problem on the XP machine so don't think it's that.

Any thoughts anyone?

Answer:Windows 7 Easy Transfer installation problem

Hi Andy, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You don't need to install WET on Windows Seven, it's built-in. Just type Easy Transfer on Start Menu > Search field to find it.

So I bought this USB PC-to-PC Transfer Cable. I have a laptop for downloading files and I work on my PC. I'm constantly having to move the large files using an external HD. I figured I would rather just connect the two computers via this USB cable and transfer my files that way.

No more: plugging in to laptop, transferring to external HD, unplugging from laptop, plugging in to PC, transferring from external HD.

Much simpler in theory I'm afraid. Unfortunately, I have only found "Windows Easy Transfer" which assumes I'm transferring to a new PC which involves clicking through a few senseless screens before I can clarify I'm only moving 2GB and not 200 GBs. Once you start transferring it's SO SLOW. I don't know if this is the Windows software or if transferring over a USB PC-PC cable is going to be REALLY slow no matter what. I have also tried using my Ethernet cable but it only transfers at 1 Mb a second which is even slower.

Does anyone know if there is an alternative program I can use that's faster and just for simply transferring a few files (like windows explorer) ? Or is there a way to boost that Ethernet transfer speed? Otherwise I'm going back to the External HD method.

Thanks

Answer:Alternative To Windows Easy Transfer? (USB Easy Transfer Cable) Maybe Ethernet?

Re: Alternative To Windows Easy Transfer? (USB Easy Transfer Cable) Maybe Ethernet

I do transfers, sometimes in the GB range myself. I drag and drop between USB sticks/external drives and the machine's HD.

I found that TeraCopy gave me measurably better speed transfers on large files. I don't use it for small copy operations as it seems to be a bit slower in some cases. TeraCopy works thru a context menu, when you drag and drop, you'll see options to copy/move with Windows native setup, or you can select TeraCopy move or copy.

Uninstall with this is easy, no problems, so a test drive may be worth your time...

Setup is starting services.

Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.

About one month ago I decided I wanted to have a clean install of windows 7 on my acer machine. I did this by using an acer made pre-installed program. It claims to be very straightforward, all you have to do is click a button and they will reinstall windows 7 for you and even back up all your data , so that after the clean install you don't lose a thing. Sounded great but in reality it has stopped my notebook from working.

I am now in a circle-jerk of the error message I stated in the beginning of this topic. Once my computer restarts it just gets me the same error message again.

I tried booting from a bootable USB-key with the windows 7 iso downloaded from official sources. But this did not do anything from me. I also went to acer support in my city. They offered me to fix it. All they had to do is copy all the info of my hard drive I wanted to keep and do a fresh install of windows 7. Would take them 3 hours. This is the easyiests option for me. But problem is I live in China and I don't trust those tech support guys for good reasons. I went there with my laptop, the tech-support guy put in a usb-key and started up my computer. It started some kind of diagnostics. After 20 minutes of this he stopped the diagnostics and started running some chinese software on my computer. Presumably booting from the USB-key. After a couple ... Read more

Hello,

I have this problem. Upgraded my motherboard and processor, got a new hard drive, installed new version of xp onto new hard drive, all works great.

Apart from I can't boot into my old version of windows. Understanding that this is due to no compatible drivers for the mainboard or processor, a repair install is performed using my XP Home disc. This repair install seems to restart before the instllation is complete, and the PC just keeps booting back into setup, tries again, fails to complete and restarts again.

The reason i need to get back into my old version of windows is because I have a program installed on it called mobile Phonetools from BVRP software. It has all my SMS messages archived somewhere, but I don't know where, and only by running the program from within my old windows installation can i make a backup file that i can restore onto my new installation.

Please help me boot back into my old XP!

Jonathan.

Answer:Setup will not complete repair installation

Hi,

Not sure you can get that done, but have you tried setting it as a slave to the drive that will boot and then moving your data?

This sounds like a dumb question, but here's the background.

My daughter's XP laptop crashed (trashed hard disk that I doubt we can rescue much data from) and so we got her a Windows 7 computer. Unless we can rescue much of the old data from crashed XP, she's pretty much starting off empty.

Except that today I discovered on an external hard drive the "Easy Transfer" of her account from 15 months ago, from a computer she shared at that time, that was used to "port her up" on the XP laptop. So in theory, this "Easy Transfer" archive should have all of her data and files from 15 months ago.

But although the archive LOOKS like regular Windows folders and files, on closer examination, it's not. For example, I know there are jpg and .doc files, plenty of them, in the mix, yet all I see is lots of shortcuts to such files.

Is there a way, without running Windows Easy Transfer (I don't want to mess with her now running and configured Windows 7 laptop), to turn the Easy Transfer archive into a source from which I could copy over selected files and folders onto her new machine?

Answer:Can an Easy Transfer archive be used/read without using Easy Transfer?

Easy transfer sometimes is neither easy nor a true transfer. It is basically to transfer files (data) and settings (configurations). It can however leave you in an in-between state with some of each and neither of both.

It may be easier if everything works according to plan, but can be much more... Read more

Thought you guys would be interested in this.

I have my merchant account (to accept credit cards) through Quickbooks.

I pay Intuit $17.95/month simply for the privelige of accepting credit cards, when I only accept them maybe every 2 or three months.

Today, when trying to process a charge, I got this message:

They told me it was coming, and it made me mad, but now that it's happened, it just infuriates me. (here is the notice that they sent in Feb.)

This is PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE!

It is one thing to stop offering technical support and updates for an older (QB2003???) product. It cuts down on training costs for employees and allows more effort to be concentrated on newer products.

But it is quite another to INTENTIONALLY BREAK a feature of the product in order FORCE you to upgrade to the latest version.

There is absolutely no reason to discontinue a feature of a product other than to force me to upgrade. They didn't bother to discontinue BILLING me for the service for the past two months, I might add. They also disabled my ability to email invoices and do other online services.

What do you guys think of this?

Do I have any recourse?

Again, they have not merely discontinued support (or sunset) the older product, but have disabled features that I paid for, and are holding them ransom until I cough up $190 to upgrade a perfectly good product.

Thanks!Click to expand...

try running the system in safemode and try enable them again.

to run in safemode:
1. click START
2. click RUN
3. type: msconfig
4. look at the boot tab at the top, and select "safemode"
5. click restart

now your computer will boot in "safemode".

when you're finished in safemode, repeat the same steps 1 to 5, but untick "safemode" so the system will boot in the usual mode.

hope it helps if not type back.

Question: Component Services

Dear All,

I am using an ASP application in windows 2003 server with Sql Server 2005 as database. I have registered some DLL from component services, later on due to some changes in the application I have to re-register the new dll. But when I try to register it shows refreshing the component but, I am not able to register new dll.

In addition, I tried deleting the old component manually from Component Services, but is now not registering the same dll for which earlier old version was registered.

Kindly suggested how to register the DLL in component services if it is not registering the new DLL.

Also if there is any security check or blocking to be removed to allow registration of new dll.

Thanks and Regards,

Our old PC which was running XP was getting ready for a failure but before it died I did manage to use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to copy the much cherished ones to my external hard drive. They are now sitting on there as a dat file. Because we didn't have the new PC yet we did not have the chance to run Vista Easy Transfer on the old PC. Sorry if this is in the wrong section.. I didn't really know what to put it under..

I was upgrading my system, from XP to Vista. I tried the 'keep all my current files and settings' option for the upload, but it wouldn't let me use it.
So, I used the file and settings transfer wizard to transfer all my files to my external hard drive. Then I deleated my files on my computer - no point in having two copies. (I now know how stupid this idea was).
When I had successfuly uploaded Widows vista onto my computer, I found that it didn't actualy have the files and settings transfer wizard - it had something called 'Easy Transfer' instead. Easy tranfer is incompatible with the File and settings transfer wizard.

So, now all my files are sitting on my Hard drive in .dat files, and I don't know how to get them back.

Help me please.
Thanks

Hi,
I bought a new laptop with Windows XP in it, I wanted to transfer some files from my Desktop PC which has Vista to my laptop with XP, I bought a Belkin USB Data Transfer Cable to transfer files with help of Windows Easy Transfer but when I installed the soft provided with it, it seemed that I can only transfer files from XP to Vista, but not the opposite. Is there a solution or must I go back to my retailer? Those unfinished Microsoft's products really annoy me.
Is there a soft which can do the same without changing the cable?
Thanks.

Answer:Transfer files from Vista to XP with Windows Easy Transfer

Did you install software on both?
Generally you will need to do so.

The simple approach if you have a router is just to make sure that the network name is same on both computers, then enable file and print sharing and make sure that the LAN and file and print sharing are not blocked by the firewalls on either machine and share the drive or folders you want and then you can see them in my network places , view workgroup computers on the other computer.

You can also do this with an ethernet crossover cable ,just connecting the ethernet cards of the two (*a crossover cable has the wires at opposite ends re arranged so the in wires on one end connect to the out on the other and vice versa)
Both windows and vista have file and settings transfer wizards and networking wizards designed to make this easier; but you can just do it all manually.

With your product did it say it was vista compatible?

Looks like Easy Transfer won't work for my situation.

My mobo is unstable & I'm rebuilding the system with a new mobo and proc. I want to just transfer the profiles etc. to an external HDD & reload Win 7 on same SSD after I complete the build.

However, looking through the documentation on Win 7 Easy Transfer - it looks like you have to port the data from one 'live' comp to another 'live' comp. In my case, I want to save the data from a crippled machine, then kill it and scavenge the good parts to use in the new build... not make a new machine first.

Is there any way to migrate the data & profiles 'the old fashioned' way?

I am trying to install a program onto a laptop, with Windows Xp Pro Ver2002 Sp3.

The program needs a windows component installed called Internet Information services (Ver5.1 for Xp) or IIS for short, to install this I should be able to go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs -> Add Windows components and select the IIS option and install it, however, there is no option there to install this.

I downloaded Web Platform Installer and tried to install it via that but it's giving me a failure with the following log

I'm helping get my bosses computer working, it was bogged down with a ton of stuff, ran msconfig and disabled a ton of startup items. Later, foolishly as I've now found out, I too disabled the System Services.

After reboot, the computer is logged into the only user account that I know of, but it is a "user type unknown" and is not the administrator. I am stuck out of getting back to the mormal startup.

Upon startup, after putting in the password and username, I get:

"System Configuration Utility

"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows Starts

"The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows starts.

"Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility."
Okay, so the problem is, I can't do that. Or if I can, I'm not finding out. If I attempt to run MSCONFIG, I'm barred out of it because it is not recognizing this user account as an admin account. Can anyone help me out on how to restore what I've screwed up here?

Where would I find the "General tab" to choose "Normal Startup mode" if not through msconfig which I'm now blocked out as having access.

I've just screwed up and barred myself out of the system with the only kno... Read more

Thank you for your birthday wishes; it's my 70th so it's all profit from now on!
Your timing is immaculate as I was in the process of drafting the attached. Solutions would be a great birthday present!

I have 2 nested problems:
1. When I log on, the following event log error appears twice in quick succession:
Event 1005 Source DCOM “DCOM got error "%1058" attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server: {BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}”
The usual solution given around the internet is to go to Component Services\Computers\My Computer\DCOM Config\netman, right click the netman node and choose Properties, click on the Security tab, in the Launch and Activation Permissions frame choose Customize and click the corresponding Edit... button. In the Launch Permission window select the user NETWORK SERVICE in the Group or user names list (or add it if it doesn’t exist), tick the Allow checkbox for Local Activation and OK out. But…
2. When I right click netman (or anything else in Component Services), Properties is not an option. I try to bypass this by selecting netman and hitting alt+enter to get properties, then adding NETWORK (it won’t allow me to add NETWORK SERVICE, saying it can’t be found) and ticking Allow, but it doesn’t stop the DCOM problem. I would be happy to set DCOM to disabled (which does make the DCOM problem go away), but if I do and I then open a Word document I get a message “The do... Read more

I want to transfer my account settings from one account to another in Windows 7. A lot of the settings seem to have transferred over, but not all of them, for example the autoplay settings are set to the default in the new account. I need to find a way to transfer all the settings from all control panels to the new account.

So far, the only solution I've found is using the User State Migration Tool, but I'm loathe to use something that complicated unless I have to. Does anyone know of an easier way of transferring everything?

Answer:Easy Transfer Wizard doesn't transfer everything

Hi

Sadly it doesnt transfer everything and in the main you really dont want all settings transfered as main applications need to be re-installed anyway so they will reset their defaults and as for autoplay, its disabled by default in Windows 7 as a security measure for stopping malware spreading, read more HERE

I didnt find much I missed in settings with the Easy Transfer Wizard when I did 3 PCs reciently for friends/reletives, my own main one had all user settings pretty much intact.

What apart from Autoplay is missing from your accounts? and armed with this we maybe able to advise.

I migrated to a new machine using easy transfer. I copied my files (user and data) to a hard drive that I installed in my new machine. I copied everything back and it all worked fine. Over time (the last year) I have altered my config and even wiped the OS and did a clean install. My problem is I would like to move some data files out of the Mig configuration to a useable format, but when I try to use easy transfer, it wants to bring over the user files as well to my c:. The problem with this is I have a very small c: that just has the os on it. Easy transfer wants to bring over 57 GB of user and system files that I don't want, and won't fit on the drive. The program will not allow me to choose another drive (other than c or not bring the system and user files over. It will not allow me to bring the files I want without these. I am not sure if I can recover these files (mostly pictures and music). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Don't want to transfer user files with easy transfer

I should have looked a little deeper as I found the solution to my problem. For others, here is a link of a program which allows you to selectively choose which files to transfer and where to put them.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
In this case we would suggest you to go online to the Dell website and configure the system at  your cost .
In terms of how long windows 7 will be support ? You will get support as long as the system is under warranty .
If the system is not under warranty you will still get support however it will be paid.

Hi,
I installed Roxio Easy media creator 7 a while ago and I just did a windows xp repair but now roxio keeps bringing up this message:

* Please wait while windows configures Roxio Easy media creator 7 basic DVD edition...
- The only opton is cancel...

If I cancel it keeps coming up...

If I let it run through it says

*"Error 1706 no valid source could be found for product Roxio Easy media creator 7 basic DVD edition windows cannot continue"

then goes back to the first message and tries again...
Roxio 7 still works perfectly fine when I open it from desktop or start!
however whenever I open a browser, or try and rename a folder or save something it comes up with the error mentioned earlier...
it just keeps doing this and stops me continuing my work...

I have lost my Roxio 7 cd so I can't install the disk to fix this problem...

I found however my Roxio 6 disk so I tried just removing Roxio 7 using add remove programs... but this just brings up the same error... and wont uninstall...

does anyone know how to stop this message coming up?
(note roxio works fine I just want to stop the error message- but failing that does anyone know how to get rid of the program altogether)

thanks for your time

Miki

Answer:Error from Roxio Easy Media creator 7 after repair through windows repair

I encountered the same problem awhile back; it's a known bug with the Windows Installer.
MOPER made this suggestion & it worked perfectly for me. Give it a try..

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
here

Install and run it, look for an entry similar to "WordPerfect". Delete the entry and all should be fine.
[*] NOTE: Please replace "WordPerfect" with the name you got from the Windows Installer"

To transfer applications on to another PC you need to have the original installation discs or installation setup files. If that's not the issue, make sure that version of Print Shop you have is compatible with the version of Windows you're trying to install it on.

I recently tried to download my husband's game Stronghold Crusader on our new pc. I am very sure the game should play and meet minimum pc requirements as it played on our older, slower version of pc. This is the error that I am getting along with the specs.
Component Transfer Error:
Component: Main App
File Group: App Executables
File: D:\disk1\data2.cab
Error: incorrect function

I run WinXP Pro on an HP Workstation x2000, have rebooted, installed upgraded version of Windows Installer v 3.1(2), have downloaded Stronghold Crusader Patch v 1.1 and nothing is correcting the problem. Also, the game installs 68% and then quits. It worked fine on the other pc which was a compaq (related to HP) and disk is somewhat scratched but not severely and has been cleaned. Need help as hubbie knows nothing of fixing errors and he wants to play his game. I do all of the pc maintenance in the household.

Hi there. I recently had my pc back from my friend who borrowed it while hers was being repaired. While she had it, for some reason it kept crashing. So when I had it back, I formatted the hard drive and after many unsuccessful attempts (I don't know why), Windows Me is finally back on there. I am now trying to install The Sims Deluxe Edition on there for my kids. The first disc loads fine. When it asks for the second disc, you click ok and then the message "Component Transfer Error" appears. This is a new one on me! Can anyone help?P.S I know that Me is not the best, supposedly, for The Sims, but I haven't had a problem before. Thanks!

Windows 7 32 bit laptop ----> Windows 7 64 bit PC with USB network adapter.

I'm trying to move a folder from one computer to the other. There are about 300 files totalling 3mb.

At around "234 files remaining", the transfer freezes, and after a minute or so, the network connection on the destination computer is shown as Disabled. If I right click and choose "Enable", it makes the attempt, says "connection failed", and then "It is not possible to connect at this time. No network was detected. You may need to plug in your network cable to complete the connection."

What will fix it is unplugging the USB network adapter and replugging. But it only allows a little bit more transfer before it happens again.

I tried initiating the transfer from one computer, and again from the destination (bringing the files to it), but the problem occurs just the same. On additional attempts it will reconnect to the other computer and allow me to browse the files, but the connection crashes again without any more progress. My internet connection is fine otherwise, doesn't do this unless I'm transferring data across the network. I disabled Eset real-time protection but have windows firewall up (I'd rather not turn it off).

Any ideas on this one?

Im fixing someones pc. It wouldnt boot, so I did a repair install. All seems fine until I have to install the first update which is the Microsoft WIndows Installer 3.1 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86). Such things as System restore fails to work, add/remove (appwiz.cpl) fails to load. System restore keeps saying something about drive D not being monitored which doesnt matter as I made a system restore point with it off. I double click add/remove programs and nothing happens.Ive scanned for malware, adware and viruses using avira, spybot and malwarebytes. It found sum, I removed them and did a new repair. No change, would always break when install the 3.1 Installer. Tried both the automatic updates, and downloading the file from Microsoft. Not too long after each Windows repair install I do, I have the same problem again. A month or two after repair, some programs lose the ability to reinstall.

For example: I recently uninstalled Soluto and Avast Antivirus, and now neither is installable anymore. Both programs claim that they don't have write access. I haven't messed with Windows settings or done anything unusual. Also, Dwrite.dll, PresentationBuildTasks.dll and console.dll.mui are corrupted and cannot be replaced by sfc /scannow because the original files are supposedly incorrect as well.

What should I do? My personal suspicion: my hard drive might be dying.

At first I had no keyboard control so I changed the USB plug to the mobo USB ports rather than the pci USB card. Now I have keyboard movement. I have tried safe mode, safemode with command prompt and last known good configuration. Each one gets to the same message and black screen.

I have a copy of msvcp60.dll on a flash disk and can startup the computer into recovery console but have no idea how to copy the file from the flash disk to the windows system32 directory.

This began last night when I uninstalled ASUS Gamer OSD as I thought it wasn't necessary. Then Paretologic Drivercure proceeded to do a whole bunch of driver updates. I manually updated my Graphics card Nvidia geforce 8600 GT and my Logitech G5 laser mouse, but others were done automatically by Drivercure. I have Windows XP with sp3. Like shorn in the other thread on this issue, it didn't restart after each one but I kept clicking restart later, and the next driver would start. Like shorn I wondered whether this wa... Read more

Answer:Services.exe unable to locate component msvcp60.dll not found

Woohoo!! I think I've managed to solve this by tricking the computer. I had to go out for a couple hours. When I got back, some of my desktop icons, including recycle bin, were showing up on the black screen which I had left there. I opened recycle bin and from there got to Windows explorer by clicking folders. I found my flash disk and could also get to the system32 folder. But I couldn't copy the file over. It just would not copy and paste, nor would it drag and drop. BUT... I right clicked on the dll file in my flash disk and made a RAR file of it. Then I opened the RAR file and I extracted it to the system32 folder. BINGO!

The computer is working again but slowly. And Paretologic drivercure is still wanting to do driver updates. I have unselected automatic download of updates and will do it manually one by one. I am also now running a Regcure scan.

I recently got a new TV (Sharp LC-40LE653U), and I'm having problems getting it to work hooked up to my PC. I use a TV in a dual-monitor setup, with certain applications displayed in the TV (XBMC, an occasional browser page etc), but now when I turn off this TV for a certain amount of time, it moves any windows from the TV back to my primary monitor. Thanks for any help.

I uninstalled and am trying to reinstall Sims Deluxe Edition but when it reaches 15 % it stops and a box with the warning 'component transfer error' (what does C T Error mean?) comes up, i've done everything but nothing ....I've cleaned the CD, made a desktop folder to try installing it from there but no same box opens up, can someone help me to try to fix this problem? thanks Sheila

Answer:HELP! trying to reinstall sims but get component transfer error

Sometimes The Sims doesn't uninstall properly. There is a program that will remove all of the components that the uninstallation did not get, though I have no clue where to find it. I think it's on The Sims website

I previously had a problem with my laptop in which I could not switch on or do any thing at all. The first time that I sent the laptop back for repair , it breaks with almost no usage in less than one month. I then sent it back for repair the second time with the same issue and got it back in less than 2 weeks which is quite impressive although they could not explain the reason why the problem occur apart from stating that the motherboard has been replaced. after that , it did not work again in less than 1 month and im now stuck with a dead laptop oversea for 15 more days and with 30 more days warranty (i donno if I should consider extending warranty when I experienced this level of reparing  quality).  I had 2 pcs , one netbook one mac and never had to deal with this at all. This is the third times already.Im so worried that the problem will occur yet again even after I sent it back for diagnosis . Cant they at least tell me what is actually causing the problem and not just send back the laptop to me after he replaced some parts and the laptop happen to work for half an hour or less ?any recommendation is appreciated

Answer:e420 sent back to repair 2 times , breaks again in 3 weeks

that seems troubling. This is the result of faulty EEPROM chip used in the production, which was rectified in around March of this year (could be earlier), where all replacement boards with known faulty EEPROM was pulled from the inventory.

Hi there
just recently I had the power connection fail on an INTENSO USB3 ext drive -- as it was a 3GB drive I didn't want to lose all the data on it.

Anyway I cracked open the case and it was simply a 3GB SATA Barracuda 7200 RPM normal HDD with a power and USB connector card embedded in the case.

So I just removed the HDD and connected it up into a SATA slot on my desktop and it works fine as an INTERNAL drive (still fast too).

Also frees up a valuable USB3 slot on my computer. (I only have 2 USB3 slots so each one is valuable).

If I really want to use this as an external drive then I'd just get another SATA==>USB3 enclosure --but the disk is a bit heavy to use as a portable.

( I got the INTENSO drive for 70 EUR -- so even breaking it up it's still a bargan for a 3TB Barracuda SATA drive - whish Id' bought to or 3 of these and converted them to INTERNAL HDD's. !!).

Seems most of these larger external powered (not self powered) USB drives are simply normal HDD's contained in a SATA==>USB2 or USB3 container.

Good way of getting cheap drives too as the stores are too ignorant to know this. !!

So if you have decent USB ext drives around you can easily turn these into internal HDD's when you upgrade / get a new desktop type computer. Don't chuck them away -- and if you SPAN them you can turn for example two 500GB drives into a single 1TB one.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:How to repair USB3 ext drive when power or USB connector breaks

the same applies to TV recorders. They use PC-grade DVD burners and HDDs you can scavenge before trashing them.

And yes, all externals I popped open were standard HDDs with an adapter, I assume it's cheaper that way as it is mass-production of the same drives for multiple uses.

Quite a few external DVD burners were actually laptop hardware in a fancy case.

While attempting to install Visual Studio 2015, I encountered an error stating the component store is corrupt. After searching, I was lead to these helpful posts:

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8http://www.eightforums.com/performan...tml#post459105
So I run this command:

Lately in Win 10 x64 ver1703 RS2 I have got a BSOD,

1. Bad Pool Header
2. Unexpected Store Exception
3. Reference by Pointer

Bad Pool Header -- happened when I was just transfering a file to a USB and lately doing nothing.
Unexpected Store Exception -- happened after boot and I was about to open explorer.
Reference by Pointer -- happend doing nothing.

Never happened before when I was with Win10 x64 ver1511.

So I checked via sfc /scannow and there was no integrity error using sfc /scannow but in "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth " Component store is repairable.

But when I ran (copied the install.wim to the desktop)"Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:C:\Users\My_PC\Desktop\install.wim:1 /limitaccess"It did not finish and said that the source file cannot be found.

The same was when I copied the whole "sources" with the "install.wim" in it. "It did not finish and said that the source file cannot be found."

How can I repair my component store? My Win 10 version is 1703 RS2 (updated from Win 10 ver 1511 via ISO of ver1703 -setup.exe).

I used MemTest the other day (looooong test!) but there was no issues found. THe BSOD is intermittent and not continous. Please help.

I have the following two (2) related hardware questions for the hp experts, and both questions are in regards to the same JBK00 LA-4091P Rev 1A motherboard, which is installed within an hp Pavilion dv7-1243cl notebook computer: Below, I included a picture that pertains to both of my questions.  QUESTION #1:  I accidently lost a resistor while repairing my girlfriend's motherboard. Do any of the experts know the ohm value for resistor R610?   As you can probably tell from the below picture, I accidently ripped all twelve (12) pin pads off the motherboard for FFC Connector JP36 (pictured below), so I have to bridge each of the FFC Connector (JP36) pin connections with 30AWG wire. That said, I?ve been unable to trace pin #10 on the FFC Connector to any component on the motherboard, so my remaining question is as follows:  QUESTION #2:  As for the twelve (12) pin FFC Connector shown within the below picture (PCB Component No.: JP36), which component does pin #10 connect to on the motherboard?   Any assistance would be PROFOUNDLY appreciated!

I recently bought a new win XP laptop (with windows media center).

I first setup the wireless connection to my router - no problems.

I then walked through the Media Center setup. I chose to connect to my wireless network - thinking I can play all the songs/video tht I have on my desktop. Well, when setting up the wireless connection - it couldnt find my wireless network. In hindsight it may be because the bandwith of My D-Link router is not sufficient - or perhaps Media Center doesn' support 802.11b wireless?

Anyhow, since this, I have totally lost connection to my wireless network - it says "Limited or no Connectivity".

I've tried Disconnecting and then reconnecting to the wireless network, disabling and enabling the connection, and also repairing the wireless network (via Control Panel - Networks). I still can't find a way get my connection back to my wireless network.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I saved my files and settings from a previous installation of windows 7 to an external hard drive using windows easy transfer. Now when I try to transfer those files and setting to my new installation I get the following message:

Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings.

The message pops up only a few seconds after the transfer begins.
Why is this?! I need those files and windows has screwed me. Everything is basically the same as before I reinstalled. Same computer, same windows 7 installation just recovered to factory settings. Same system language as before. BTW I'm on a Toshiba L505 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I have tried all the usual suspects such as a clean boot and uninstalling my antivirus to rule out third party interference. I installed Windows 7 and after the Completing Installation part it rebooted like it should and then after restarting my PC gets stuck at the BIOS. All BIOS Controls do NOT work. I can't access the BIOS nor the Boot Menu. I'll post a video later on YouTube about the case.

Answer:HELP Windows 7 Breaks BIOS after Installation

If this is a tower then reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Now can you boot the DVD using one-time BIOS BOot Menu key given on first screen, or enter BIOS setup to set DVD drive first to boot, or reset to defaults?

What happens if you power up with DVD in drive? Any prompts or messages at all?

Try pulling the RAM sticks to check for debris in slots, swap slots, reseat them.

Next try booting with the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan since this CD will normally boot itself without user input, as will free Partition Wizard CD. Test the HD with these disks, then wipe the HD which will in turn force the Win7 DVD to boot itself to reinstall.

hi im just wondering what apps should not be removed i have windows installed onto a small ssd and will never use any of the apps besides calculator off the top of my head, and its a laptop so really i don't need apps. i have already uninstalled cortana and it now crashes computer while typing into start so anything like that is what im looking for thanks

Answer:what apps should not be removed (breaks installation)?

Hi, quite agree about ignoring apps mostly. Best to use Classic Shell or similar as a start menu.

Cortana is not intended to be removed. There is no formal easy way to remove any of the universal apps except with powershell commands. It simply isn't worth bothering, as these will be reinstated in any new upgrade released by MS such as the November build. There will be more to come.

Note too that the powershell commands to reinstall/repair apps now break them last I knew - we hope MS will fix that.

This implies fixing your PC now means either
- you restore a previously created disk image (you do use disk imaging, don't you.. it's a huge advantage
or
- you do an in-place upgrade repair install (see tutorial section for full instructions).

Hi. I am a tech at a laptop repair shop. I want to learn how to do component level repair on stuff. Laptop MBs, video cards, usb flash drives, etc. I'm sure that is a far away goal, but right now I don't know what the starting point is.

This week I recovered data from a flash drive that had been dropped. I was testing voltage aimlessly on the drive while it was plugged in and I tapped a refrigerator with a probe and the drive just suddenly came to life and I have no clue why. btw, I call it a refrigerator because that is what it looks like and I have not clue what it is actually called.

any advice to point me in the right direction?

Oh, also I have no formal schooling, certs, or anything. Just a mind for troubleshooting.

Hi there

Just loaded a W7 VM with Outlook 2016 installed on it

setting up a new account works up THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO. I.e you can enter all the bits manually. Note this server is NOT an EXCHANGE server.

What hoses up W10 is that for my incoming / outgoing mail servers the name is of the form mail.xxxx.is while the user name is on a totally different hosted server like [email protected]

W10 -- can't connect to account because the auto config has WRONG values in it so can't create. Why can't the wretched software say - can't auto create so go ahead manually.

W7 no problems.

I might try an update of this W7 VM to W10 (the free update still works BTW) to see if the email account is retained.

BTW a great use for VM's when testing this type of event / problem !!!!

Grrrrrhhhh!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Hi All,

Has anybody come across this before?

This morning I had a notification that my defender in Windows 8 was out of date and needed updating which I went ahead with.

After the restart I was presented with my login screen.

After logging in I get to the tiles screen but there are no tiles.

If I press the windows key + d I get to my desktop but the wallpaper is gone and I just have a black background with my Firefox icons etc but I can't run anything.

I can't start the control panel from the pc setting option when I move my mouse to the right of the screen but I can eventually get to the control panel if I go back to the desktop and start explorer.exe from the task manager. In the task manager there is nothing running which looks strange, I thought normally there would be lots of things listed as running

If I check my updates I can see defender was successfully updated this morning but I pretty much have an unusable system.

This happened not too long ago also and I ended up doing a clean install as I could not find a way around this and did not have time to find out what the issue was.

Can anybody help with this or am I basically facing a clean installation again?

I checked if I could go back to an earlier restore point but it tells me there are no restore points.

I also disabled defender for now to see if that helped but it's still the same.

Thanks and regards

Answer:Defender update kb2267602 breaks my installation?

I might have got around it.

I created a new account which logged in ok although it does seem slow to login.

I copied over any files from my old account then deleted that account.

Recreated the account and copied back my files and it looks ok now.

What I did notice after the upgrade and restart to defender is that it displayed the standard Windows welcome screens like after you do a new installation.

Answer:"Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings." Why?

Well, I finally gave up. I've scoured the internet for a solution. You'll probably find duplicates of this post all over. This has been a known software problem with Windows Easy Transfer for years and Microsoft has done nothing to fix it or warn users of the risks. Shameful!
Anyway, I managed to recover my files with this life saver of a program here>
MigRecover Utility for Microsoft’s Windows Easy Transfer | Visser Labs
MigRecover Utility for Microsoft's Windows Easy Transfer.
I can't express how grateful I am to the developer and the host for the download. You guys are the most awesomest people ever. Cheers.
Here's how you modify the syntax in commmand prompt if you used a password to protect the mig file in WET>
"Windows Easy Transfer couldn't open the file" on second attempt to recover files/settings
Just remember to change the source drive letter in "C:\SaveData.MIG" to the actual drive it's stored on if your MIG file is on an external drive like mine was; whether it's E:, F:, G: or whatever.
Good luck to anyone with the same issue who stumbles upon this post. I hope it helps you as it did me.

My problem started last night as I was trying to boot in safe mode with networking to install and update malwarebytes to get rid of a spyware problem. I was unable to start my computer with safemode using f8, so I used the misconfig boot.ini method and selected safeboot with networking. Then I was able to get to the boot sequence menu, but whichever option I picked (safe mode, normal, last working configuration, etc), the computer just restarts.

Then I tried to repair windows with the xp cd and it completed at 100% and needed to "restart to finish the setup process." However, right now whenever it restarts, it will automatically go into safe mode, and I would get an alert saying "'win xp setup cannot run under safemode. Setup will restart now." I have tried pressing okay, x-ing it out and a manual shutdown. But whatever I do, the same cycle will happen over and over again .

I later found out about the f5 key and tried using that to boot normally, but it still goes into safe mode. My question is.. is there a way to override the msconfig settings so that my computer can boot normally and finish the setup process, OR to get the setup NOT to finish so that I can change the msconfig settings back to original.

I would really like to backup my files before doing a reformat. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Answer:Cannot access windows after win repair -- safe mode & repair setup conflicts

First of all you could use any Linux Live-cd program to make a bootable cd from a downloaded iso file and then boot to Linux and then copy and paste whatever files you need to a usb flash drive or external hard drive.
What I would suggest first though is boot to first "r" for Recovery Console and run "chkdsk /r" to repair the hard drive.

I purchased a Compaq Laptop running Vista. I am attempting to tranfer files from my old Laptop to the new one using "Easy Transfer". My old Laptop is a Qosmio F15 running XP. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. Successfully burned a CD with the program as directed by "Easy Transfer", and placed in the Qosmio disc drive. No problem establishing a connection. During the tranfer however, the connection keeps dropping....only a few minutes in. The Qosmio is the one that displays the icon that indicates the dropped connection. Can this be fixed, or would I be better off getting a cable?

Thanks!

Answer:Easy Transfer Not So Easy...Help!

Hi First-DT. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support.

I myself have never used the Easy Transfer to actually transfer files as I keep most files on external drives. From what I read in Microsoft kb928634, an active network connection between the two systems is 1 or 4 methods that can be used. To assure file integrity and security (meaning having a back-up), I would suggest that you utilize one of the other methods mentioned in the kb to get your Vista system up and running. Once you are satisfied with the file migration to Vista, you can always come back and re-open the issue with your other system.

Are you looking to transfer alot of files? Is there more involved than just pictures, music, etc...? Please keep in mind that any installed programs from your old system cannot be transferred and will have to be re-installed as new under Vista.

Regards. . .

I recently reimagined my dell inspiron 1526 laptop back to factory condition. Before the reimaging I used the easy transfer wizard via usb key to transfer only my emails, address book, and favorites. You may have to "Import" the wab file.
Look on the Live Mail file menu for the import command and direct it to the wab file.

Both clean install and inplace upgrade don't solve the problem

Also, event viewer shows always these administrative errors with ids 7000 and 37 and I don't know if it is related with this dism issue.

Answer:Creators update component store shows corruption but unable to repair

Hi, given the in-place upgrade install failure, try doing basic checks on your disk first. Do you mean the in-place upgrade install completed, but then your OS failed having booted up, or that the in-place upgrade installation failed to complete?

1. Download and run Crystal Diskinfo (free). It reports Good/Caution/Bad based on SMART params.
Do not proceed unless Good.

2. From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

I am trying to install the LPR monitoring windows component through the command line. I so figured out that the dll files that get copied over are lpdsvc.dll and lprmon.dll, However after I copy them to the c:\windows\system32 directory half the time the windows component adder still wants to look into the CD? How do I get around this and am I miss any files?

I am also look for a pure command line version of Print Migrator 3.1 that does not pop up a dialog box.

Here is what I have below, However I need to see about creating an if statement that will check to see it is already installed, but I dont have a clue to check for it?

LPR.BAT:

@echo off
cls
copy LPDSVC.DLL c:\windows\system32\
copy LPRMON.DLL c:\windows\system32\
sysocmgr /i:sysoc.inf /u:unattended.txt /q
printmig -r hub-120-bwq.cab
exit
unattended.txt:
[components]
Netoc = on

[NetOptionalComponents]
lpdsvc = 1

Hello Everybody,

I've been having the same problem for a very long time. I'm trying to install iTunes for my iPod, but these messages keep on coming up and cancelling the installation:

- The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed (somehow solved today)
- There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. (I managed to solve this)
- An error occurred during installation assembly component. <-- this is my problem. I don't know how long I'm already looking for a solution for this problem, but nothing seems to work. I have already done a full virus- and anti-malware scan.

So I was hoping that you guys would come with the solution for my problem?

Kind Regards,
VistaExplorer

P.S. I tried to copy iTunes from my brother on a USB-stick to my laptop, but that doesn't help either.

Answer:An error occured during installation of assembly component

here's one possibility- Office 2010 wont install keep Getting Error 2908 then 1935

Note that if you have .net framework 3.5 or 4 shown as installed in Control Panel, you can choose to uninstall them. When you do, you will be given the option to Repair them. If so, run the repair.

Again, this is just a possibility.
