Display adapter now listed as standard vga display

Question: Display adapter now listed as standard vga display

I had to reinstall windows 7 on my acer aspire 5560g laptop, I installed the drivers on the Acer site. I found the legacy updates for my cards and installed them. And I am still having problems.

The monitor is not showing the native resolution of 1366 x 768, it's topping out at 1024 x 768, it's refusing to let me use the built in screen savers. It's supposed to be a duel graphics system and the device manager lists two under the display drivers. Both are listed as standard vga display. One with the little yellow exclamation mark. It's driving me nutty. Can someone help me?

On a side note, the slider for screen brightness has also gone missing, and the fn brightness control doesn't work either.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My video card is being listed twice under Display Adapters. It's an ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2. The properties of both listings are largely the same, but there are some differences. For example, one is listed on PCI bus 4, the other is on 3. In the Details tab, in a lot of the Ids one of the numbers listed on one of them is 03800 while it is listed as 03000 on the other. Under the Resources tab they're listed differently as well. They have different memory ranges as well as I/O ranges. One also has two more I/O ranges and one more memory range than the other. Other than that, they're identical.

I don't know if it's related or not, but I'm also not seeing the performance that this card should be giving out. I'm only getting 40 fps in games like Fallout 3, 30 in Team Fortress 2, and a completely dismal 20 fps in World of Warcraft. All of the settings in these games are on the highest possible, but I've tried putting them lower and I don't see a significant increase in fps, which is odd. I have completely updated drivers for my chipset as well as the card (I updated them today). My motherboard (a Dell 0YF432 according to CPU-Z) has an NVidia chipset, but I've been told that that doesn't matter as long as I'm not trying to Crossfire anything, which is why I have an X2 (they're built together; no Crossfire involved).

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the performance of this card is so poor, but I ha... Read more

In Device Manager, why not uninstall both instances and then restart the PC.

Window should then find new hardware and insstall the drivers for you.

I know there are several threads but they are with different cards and they didn't solve my issue...

I bought a new MEDION AKOYA P5334E and the system arrived installed normally with win7 home edition.

I've installed on the computer the win7 enterprise edition (x64) and many drivers could not be find. I've installed nost of them, except the display adapter.
It's stuck on "standard vga graphic adapter".
I have the AMD Radeon HD7570 card but no matter what I try is not working!!!
tried to uninstall the current driver, tried to download the driver from the AMD website (when executing it - it's running but does nothing).
when executed the auto detect from AMD website, I got the message "we were unable to find your product or OS"

Will be greatful for any help!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

Answer:display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

Welcome to the Sevem Forums, Oraz.

If you still have the DVD of Windows 7 home edition and if it is also 64-bit then you might find the graphics adapter driver there which might get installed. Otherwise try installing Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 in Windows XP SP3 mode.

Another option is to try installing the Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 that you have downloaded in the safe mode. In case the this driver gets loaded in the safe mode then it shall install too.

Hello, I have a Aspire AX3950 that came with Windows 7 Home. I had to re-image the machine to Windows 7 Professional so I could install Visual Studio 2013. I got the software from my MSDN Subscription. After successfully reimaging the machine, the system only recognizes one of my monitors. It was working properly with the same two monitors before the windows update. I checked the Display Adapter and it shows "Standard VGA Graphics Adaper". It was my mistake for not checking the adapter before updating the system. From what I have found on the internet, this AX3950 has a graphic card coupled with the mother board. My question is, how can I get the original Display adapter working again?

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've had to ask anything on these forums, but I'm glad they're still here when I need them! I've done some looking into the problem, and it seems like there aren't many resources on my problem.

I'm trying to connect my television to my laptop, via an SVideo connection. The problem is, my graphics card does not, and CAN NOT, have its factory/updated drivers installed. The graphics card is currently being run under "Standard VGA graphics adapter" drivers.

(The reason I can't put drivers on the card is because it's fried. I'm suffering from a burnt-out, defective NVidia GeForce 8600M GS, like many other people, and I'm mired down in court documents that I'll be using against HP in small claims court.)

Are there another set of drivers I could try that would allow my laptop to use an external display?
Is there a way to set up an external monitor under standard VGA graphics adapter drivers?

Hi everyone.
I am so happy with Windows 7 that I have bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L50D-B, but I did not love nothing of the pre-installed win 8 at all, so I formatted the disk and copied onto it the last image I had of Window 7 and all my well functioning programs. The image came from a HP Pavilion 6xxxx, thus the drivers of all hard drive components needed to be replaced with that of Toshiba. I went on Toshiba site and found all drivers I needed of my new laptop and for windows 7 (32 first and 64 bit then). The only problem remaining is that I cannot replace the Standard VGA Graphics adapter with the AMD Radeon(TM) R4 Graphics. I have tried any methods I know, mounted and unmounted many drivers. I tried also to make a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit in a new partition, but the standard vga graphics adapter remains there impassible. Catalyst installs but does not see the display. I used DDU (Display Driver Uninstall), the sole program that has eliminated Catalyst perfectly from my new laptop, but the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter remains still unmovable. As i found suggested on the internet I tried to uninstall the old driver and reinstall the new in windows dafe mode. Is it possible there are some HP drivers blocking the installation of the correct AMD driver???
Any suggestion? I have the disks for restoring my satellite to its original horror Win 8.1 pre-installed state, if this can be of some help, to catch some 8.1 drivers, for example...

Small correction on that, it's the drivers for the Motherboard components that you need. There appears to be more to the model number such as Toshiba Satellite L50D-B-124 as an example, will help in finding the correct drivers.

Each time I start up settings in display properties resets to
Screen resolution 640 X 480
Color Quality low 8 - bit
I rest them to
1024 X 768
32 bit
apply and restart and they reset to the above.

The correct monitor and Adapter are selected.

I ran a update search for each and it says I have the latest driver version.

If I need to update the monitor and Adapter driver what version and where do I need to go?

Any Help would be appreciated.

I used to have the videogame Medieval 2 Total War on my new alienware laptop (using Windows XP) and it was fully functioning. I ended up deleteing it because I thought it was taking up too much space. Now I can install it but when I try to run the actual game I immediately get a message saying "Medieval II Total War has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit" and after reading through forums I saw a comment about someone having this problem and fixing it by downloading the latest ATI graphics.

I think I might know the problem but I am clueless as to how one goes about fixing it. A few days before I found out about this site and managed to find the virus that was slowing my internet, I was quite frustrated by the slow loading speed of my internet so I opened task manager and began ending random processes, I realize now this was not a good idea. I think I may have done something to ATI.

When I try to run the ATI setup (which has been on my computer the whole time), I reach the ATI Display Driver when it tells me "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system" then after clicking OK i received the message "Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup"

Answer:"Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup"??

You most likely need to get the mobile graphics driver. You can get it at.

I have a monitor and my tv thats being used but the other 2 i dont know how to remove it..can anyone help me out here? its just really annoying for me..
how can I remove #3,4 ? seems like everytime i restart my computer another display would appear..

Answer:4 Monitors listed in display settings

You do not say so but based on your screenshot, which shows a dropdown arrow to the right of the adapter name and a "1." before it, you have two adapters that have dual monitor connections. That is what you are seeing--not four monitors but rather four available (even if not used) monitor connections.

If you do not have dual adapters and "Device Manager" obviously thinks it sees four it is probably a driver problem.

If all is working as it should--ignore it.

If you are so badly bothered that you want it "fixed," here is what I would do:

Create a "System Restore" point and/or create a backup.

Starting in "Device Manager" uninstall all "Display Adapters" including their drivers if given the option. Shut down and physically remove the GTX-285(s) and install (temporarily) a different video card, enable the onboard, or whatever and reboot. Setup the temp card so that you can more easily install any of the available freeware driver cleaners/removers (one I have used in the past is Driver Sweeper). Run it and clean the unused hopefully unneeded drivers out of your system--do not go overboard--just concentrate on video drivers.

Repeat all the above only this time remove the temp video adapter and put the GTX-285(s) back in. Get it all setup as before and then rerun the driver cleaner/remover. Hopefully any "hiccups" will be gone.

FYI: the OS, that is "Device Manager," often sees things that ... Read more

Hi just bought new acer and it was listed as having a 512 dedicated graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570In the Device manager it lists the above card but also the ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics.Trying to figure out why and what for, cheers for any help

Answer:Why 2 Display Adapters listed on acer 7535g

The 4570 is a Graphics Adapter, the 3200 is an on-board graphics chip, so it would look as if you had two Adapters, though you only have one.I hope that makes sense!

Sice they do not use there PC for gaming, i was wondering about drivers.
The standard windows driver allows the graphics card to display upto 640x480 and 16 colours, is there any way for me to get some standard drivers that allow me to crank the resolution up to 1024x768 with 16bit high colour?

Does anyone know what model is available in the R series that has a 15" standard display instead of the 15.4" widescreen display? On the R-Series page there is a graphic that states the R61 also comes in a 15" standard here. The 15.4" widescreen looks terrible when set to 1024x768. Thanks,CharlesMessage Edited by JHEM on 12-05-2007 04:13 PM

Answer:Where is R series with Standard 15" display

First of all, yes 1024x768 looks horrible on a widescreen monitor. I would suggest something in the Widescreen arena with a higher video resolution of 1680x1050 (or higher) for widescreen.  And currently, I do believe there are no ThinkPad R series laptops that ship with a 15" LCD, they're all 14.1" widescreen or 15.4" widescreen.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Regards,
Rohit Kumar

Answer:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

As an admin using win 7 pro 64 bit, I set up a Standard Account. An example; the start button actually is labled Start, and dos not have the Win 7 logo. Clicking on the START button show a generic screen pop up listing the usual Documents, Computer, Control Panel etc, but the display of that pop up is kind of basic, and not at all of the visual sort found on win 7 . Every thing display wise, looks like it is operatng on a win xp screen. Any thoughts? Anybody??

Hello... I have a T400 I bought in August 2009 running Windows XP. When I am home, I use my T400 in conjunction with a second dual display that acts as an extended desktop. I also like to take the laptop with me. The problem is that every time I return home to connect my external screen, I have to go through this whole process in Catalyst Control Center to configure the extended display, along with its respective resolution, which monitor is primary and secondary, etc. On another laptop, this process happens automatically, detecting the monitor correctly. If this can't be done automatically, could someone please walk me through how to set this up so it can be seamless? It seems like this should be very easy but I can't figure it out for the life of me! Thanks for any help.Best wishes,Mavec

Answer:T400 dual monitors to standard display switch?

As far as completely automatic, you may or may not be able to have a reliable experience. BUT the good news is that the Thinkpad Presentation Director utility can make this a "one click" choice rather than completely reconfiguring your displays every time you reconnect.  The utility should already be installed on your machine, most likely in the Thinkvantage section. If it is not, just go to the Lenovo site and in the support section for your machine you can download it. Once installed just run through its wizard to set your displays for the way you want them (resolution, primary, extended etc) and it will have you give that a name- from then on when you connect at home you just click on the icon in the taskbar, select that named profile and you are done. Really works quite well and is pretty painless.

Hi,Our 7040 minitower has two standard (not ++) DisplayPorts.  Our monitor is dvi-D (dual-link). Dell supplied the tower with a DisplayPort to dvi adapter.  The advice received was that this adapter wouldn't work because it was passive. However, hooked it up and the dvi-D (dual-link) monitor displayed perfectly.Would anyone know why this adapter succeeded (when apparently it shouldn't have)?

Answer:How did this passive display adapter do the job that should have needed an active adapter?

Its not a passive adapter.
HDMI is bi directional and passive.
Display port is not.

The XPS 630i motherboard failed (the Ethernet port and both PCI Express slots were not functioning).
I replaced the motherboard with one purchased on eBay and I used the CPU & memory sticks from the old motherboard, plus the GE Force GT640 video card and the hard drive with the previous installation of Windows7 on it, but then (due to health issues) it sat incompleted for a year. It just needed the waterblock and cooling system installed, which is just recently completed.
When attempting to start the computer, it plays a continuous beep for 25 seconds, pauses for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, pauses again for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, then stops.
There's no video display.
I realize I may have to reset BIOS / CMOS, yet with no video display, I'm seeking to respond to this beep's meaning, learn what that means first - and then generally how to set up this new installation from here. Thanks, Rob (archer5013)

There's no video display.
I realize I may have to reset BIOS / CMOS, yet with no video display, I'm seeking to respond to this beep's meaning, learn what that means first - and then generally how to set up this new installation from here. Thanks, Rob (archer5013)

Hi,

I have lost my display on my laptop screen since I replaced the standard Microsoft display adapter driver with an AMD driver.

Is there an easy way to restore the standard graphics driver so that at least I can see Windows?

The windows still boots, however I cant see anything on the screen. I know this since it accepts my login and password and logs in. I have tried to "blind-foldedly" navigate to the Device Manager window, by switching on Narrator and random clicks. It hasnt helped much

My monitor screen is OK since the laptop boot-up screen works as normal.

The last thing I did wrong was to replace the graphics driver and now I am stuck with the above issue.

Can anyone please help?

Kind regards,
NS

Answer:Lost display since I replaced standard graphics driver in Windows 10

Try booting from a Windows install disk, and via 'Repair your computer' start System Restore.

However, System Restore isn't so reliable and there have been certain problems.

If you followed the frequent strong recommendations here to use disk imaging, you could restore your system from a disk image.

Is the 330m removable or replaceable? If so where can i buy one or can I upgrade to a more powerful discreet gpu? If it is on the motherboard why wouldn't mine be showing up? Thanks!

Answer:I'm not seeing my Nvidia Geforce 330m listed in my Vostro 3700 Bios or Windows Display Adapters Menus

It isn't a separate card.  The system was sold with Intel-only boards (most of them) or optional nVidia GPUs (high end models/upgrade at purchase).
If your system is Intel-only and you want the upgrade, you'll need at least two things:
1.  A replacement system board with the nVidia GPU
2.  A new heatsink assembly (the Intel heatsink won't work with the nVidia GPU and vice-versa).
You will also need to check your power adapter - if it's 65W, you'll need to replace it with a 90W or higher capacity power adapter.
Note that these systems used the generation of nVidia GPU that were known for premature failure - you may be able to find a survivor but they'll be thin on the ground at this point and may not be a wise investment given the high rate of failure.

Answer:Setup Display with Standard VGA Driver - Video Card Installation Error

The Radeon 7000 drivers are not compatible with Windows 7; that video card is ancient and doesn't support Windows 7 fully. The integrated Radeon 2100 is massively newer and better then this card, especially since this card uses a PCI interface compare to a modern PCI-Express interface that video cards now come in.

Also if you got a compatible graphics card, you'd want to disable the graphics card in the BIOS rather then in Windows as that will fully turn it off and return the 128MB of system memory its currently using.

Answer:Setup display with standard VGA driver - video card installation error

You went into your BIOS and disabled the integrated graphics? Um you might try a free program like Driver Sweeper to remove whatever remains of the old video drivers. For some reason the new video driver installer does not see your new video card.

Question: Display adapter

Hello,
I just built a computer and when I boot up win ME I get an error - 'Display adapter is not configured properly....'. Then it
goes through the add Softwared Wizard, but finds none.
My Display settings are as follows:

Unknown Monitor on Unknown Device

and only lets me choose 16 colors

Is this because my video card is not good or
my monitor drivers are not installed or something
else?

thanks.
-pj

Answer:Display adapter

This is because the AGP slot (assuming you have an AGP video card) is not recognized by Windows. Try installing from the drivers of your video card: search in the drivers CD of it, the folder Win98 or WinME, and run the program Setup. In this way it should work. Good luck.

well this all started along time ago when i got an invalid page error that wouldn't let me access much of anything on my computer. nothing worked. but i found a way to get on the internet through my version of rpg toolkit and i found out how to delete everything on my hard drive and start over. i did that. and installed windows 98. but now the color is stuck at 16 colors and the resolution is stuck at the lowest one. and i can't change the adapter from Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA). everytime i try to change it. i get a message saying to restart my computer which i do then when i comes back it says that the one i chose wont work and that i should set it back to the VGA one. but before i did the hard drive wipe and installing of windows the resoluion and color were fine and i could select true color and get the reolution up to the 1000 one. what should i do?

hey guys,

I checked device manager on my g50-80 device and I noticed there are 2 dipslay adapters
AMD Radeon R5 M330
and
intel(r) HD graphics 5500

now I wonder which one is working on my system?

Answer:G50-80 - display adapter?

 Hi NSR ,

Greetings.

By default the pc would complete POST (power on self test) on intel(r) HD graphics 5500 then boot into Windows.
It would work as an automatic switch similar to what is set on the BIOS configuration even on basic windows usage.

In any event that an application or any demand would require better display performance, AMD Radeon R5 M330 would take over the presentation as needed,

AMD can also be switched to any particular application manually.

Hope this answered your query.

Regards

Question: No Display Adapter

So I was givin this Vaio VGC-RB30 from a coworker. It had Windows XP Home Edition on it, and it was running horribly so I decided to use a Windows XP Pro disk on the computer. I reformatted to NSFS and loaded up pro.

Everything runs normally but I play this game (Maple Story) and when I try starting it I get an error message. From talking with their support team I came to find that I don't have the option Display Adapter in the Device Manager. Thu further research and help from them it seems I don't have a driver for my display card or monitor. I have tried to download both of these with no success. Says I don't meet the requirements or some other error. Also I haven't been able to download Itunes or a few other little things. With a bit of research on the tower I learned this model never came with XP Pro. Only HE and ME.

So I'm not to sure what to do about my situation apart from putting a new OS on here. I was leaning towards HE because that's what the computer came with stock.

Also an extra piece of info that may be helpful is that my graphics card is a Intel GMA 900. And my monitor is an HP vs17e

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope someone can help, I've been dealing with this all day and all my research hasn't seemed to solve this problem.

Question: Display Adapter

I have a problem with my display adapter (NVIDIA Vanta LT) It says it is not configured properly when I try to start my computer.
Then when I try to restart my computer I get an error message-
File Name: NVCORE(01) + 0000BC71 Error: OE : 0028 : C15520A1

I reinstalled all the drivers for it and still doesn't work.

Do you think I need to get a new display adapter?

Answer:Display Adapter

restart the machine, just after the memory count and before windows loading message start tapping the F8 key, from the startup menu choose safemode.
Once in windows Click the Start button and select Find, and then Files and Folders...
Make sure the Find applet is set to search your C:\ drive and do a search for "nv*.*" - without
the quotes
Look for any files found in the C:\Windows\System and C:\Windows\Inf and C:\Windows\Help
Select these files and delete them (do NOT empty them from the Recycle Bin until you know
your upgrade has been a success)
Exit the Find applet .

Now reinstall your video card drivers and reboot. I would suggest downloading updated drivers as your drivers could be corrupt. You can get the newest at www.nvidia.com

I need some plain english advice as I am not very computer literate. I have recently bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38 and loaded the Photofun Studio 4.0 HD edition software that came with it onto my PC which operates Windows XP Home service pack 3 edition. I have now for the first time attempted to download pictures and movies from the camera onto my PC. It got through all the download OK went nuts when I attempted to view a movie in Photfun Studio. It came up with the message - Upgrade Display Adapter. Video card does not support required version of windows to support DirectX 9.0 or newer. What does this mean and how do I resolve the problem?

Answer:Upgrade display Adapter

Your video card is what produces the image on your screen. If it's a laptop it's built into the motherboard and on some budget desktops. Other have a separate card that slots into you motherboard.Direct X is a Microsoft product to help your PC create better graphics etc.Depending upon the age and type of you video card it will only support older versions of Direct X, Windows 7 now supports Direct X 11Find out your make / type of video card in 'Devise Manager' and check on the manufactures web site for it's specification. If your card will support Direct X 9 or higher download it from click here and run. If you are not 100% positive your card will support Direct X 9 do NOT install it.You may need a new video card to run this software !

trying to setup some MS WDA for office users to require a PIN on the WDA...problem is, the only option is to enable to pair with PIN - but nowhere to either see a default PIN or set a new PIN (screenshot attached)
does anybody have any info on how to identify the default PIN or set a new PIN?
Thanks,
CUBLDRO

Answer:MS Wireless Display Adapter -- PIN ???

ok, found the PIN...it's randomly generated and shows up on the screen of the tv/monitor when a device tries to connect...you have to enter it on the laptop/tablet when prompted for it
problem (maybe problem) is that once you connect via that PIN your device is remembered and you're not prompted for another PIN next time you try to connect
problem with the whole setup (definite problem) is that you can still bump other connections when you connect, PIN or no PIN
not so cool after all

Hi, I just bought a brand new Dell Studio XPS 9000 with an ATI Radeon HD 5880 video card and whenever I try to play games i.e. BFBC2, WoW, Alien Versus Predator, and really just about everything the video card will stop responding and then quickly reboot. I've had the computer for a day now and I've been constantly looking up solutions and have not found one. I'm having the Kernel-Power Event ID 41 issue but I'm not sure how to update my BIOS (I'm very unfamiliar with Windows 7) and I'm also not even sure if that's the entire problem. If anyone can offer any help it'd be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Display Adapter Not Responding

I have that same PC, it's listed in my profile as a 435T/9000 because it was the 435T then they rebadged it but still the same. Here is what is always the first rule with any PC you got via the post, UPS or any other carrier. Pull the power cord while the machine is off. Remove the screws holding the cover then remove the cover, ground yourself with one hand on the power supply, it's the large silver cube where your power cable was plugged to. With your other hand push down on any video card, sound card or any card taking up a slot, a long block on the motherboard. Pull back the tabs to release the RAM chips and reseat them, then push every cable going to the drives to ensure they are tight then follow them to the motherboard and do the same thing, those that go to the power supply need only to be taken care of on the board or drives. Put the cover back and the screws, the power plug and start the PC. Let us know how it goes from there, take your time and don't rush, if you are nervous maybe a friend, family member or co-worker can assist you, welcome to Seven Forums.

Hi,Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to change the display adapter that my laptop uses. It has defaulted to a vga adapter 800x600, 16 colours, which does not fill the screen. This is the the only option available on the Properties, Settings tab for the display.I can install different adapters from the CD, but how do I make the machine use a different adapter?Any help etc etc....Cheers all.

Answer:Change display adapter

Sounds like it has gone back to the windows default. Maybe a problem with or corruption of the installation of the drivers for the "proper" adapter. Can only suggest taking a look in Control Panel to see what is there by way of adapter and then try to install from CD. May be necessary to remove existing then reboot. Then installation of a new adapter will override the basic windows VGA adapter.

Answer:Display Adapter Crash

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

How did you go about removing the drivers?

Do you happen to see what the BSOD stop error code was?

What is the make and model numbers of the hardware inside your system? Including the PSU.

A couple of times now, my screen has blacked out and the computer restarted in Safe Mode.  I then get some error message about something to do with the Display Adapter. I ran the Intel Driver Update Utility, and the only issue it found was this: Intel Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility - EXE only)Installed Version 10.0.10586.0Latest Version 10.1.1.14 Someone told me once before that one should never mess with the Chipset, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and do this update, and if doing so will address this issue I am having with the Display Adapter? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Display adapter conflict

Go into the BIOS and look for a setting called "P-n-P Operating System" or "Plug-and-Play OS" or something very similar to that (different BIOSes word it differently). The available settings will "Yes" and "No". Change it. If it is set for 'Yes', select 'No'. If it's set for 'No', select 'Yes'. Different BIOSes put this setting in different places, but it is typically in the Advanced Settings, or in the PCI/PNP settings. If you can't find it, post the make and model of your motherboard and I'll do what I can. It might also help to use the 'Optimized Defaults' setting in your BIOS and/or make sure all the IRQs are set for Auto. If you manually enter values for IRQs be sure to note what the values were before changing, or be prepared to use the CLR CMOS jumper on the motherboard.....

I hope this helps!

I have an old 500Mhz PC that i dont use anymore, but would like to retrieve some files from it, but the only problem is that i can't see anything but a blank screeen. This came about when I decided to change the optimal settings in the BIOS menu from N to Y thinking i knew what i was doing, but since then i've been looking at a blank screen. The computer is still working in the background but if i need to do something it would be done in the blind. I know the problem is with the display adapter because i get a message mentioning it

Can someone please point me in the right direction to sort this problem out.

The PC has an onboard graphics card but i use a voodoo 5 series card and the BIOS setup utility is AMIBIOS HIFLEX - version 1.21.

However depite this problem I now have a new and much more powerful PC that i might be able to use to view these file but unfortunately I don't have a clue how to do this, so help there would be great also!

Thanks

Answer:Display adapter problems

On the motherboard should be a BIOS jumper but its easier to just remove the power and remove the battery on the motherboard to reset the bios. Wait 5-10 mins before powering back up I have actually seen a few machines retain bios information that long.

If that fails take the hard drive out and buy a usb enclosure and put the drive in that.

I have been having a problem with a flickering screen. Somebody on a help forum suggested uninstalling the display adapter then rebooting so that Windows would re-install it. I did this, but when I rebooted it the adapter wasn't re-installed, instead I found that I had the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. My computer is now very slow and the display is blocky and the icons and text very large.

How can I re-install my adapter (Intel (R) GMA 946GZ Express Chipset Family)? I have googled the adaptor but so far have not had much luck.

Answer:Display Adapter Problem

Try here: http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm
Clicking "Check your system for the latest updates" should install the correct driver.

Edit: If this doesn't work, please tell us the manufacturer and model for your computer.

My girlfriend has an Emachines P3104 - AMD Sempron 3100+ 1.80GHz 1gig ram, xp pro sp2. At some point recently her teenage boys took it upon themselves to install a 2nd hard drive that they found in another Emachines that no longer worked. Shortly thereafter the standby button became greyed out and that function no longer worked. Then we could not get the computer to recognize or install the printer. Due to these and other various problems that accumulated over time, we decided to re-install the o.s. Everything went fine except that even with a fresh install, the device mgr does not show any display adapters listed, nor did reinstalling solve the "standby" button problem. (ACPI?) The symptom is that the display will not open or shut a page normally rather it seems to "scroll" in a jerking fashion. Plus the sound does not work either. I suspect these problems are all related (on a technical level) but am not sure. If anyone has had these problems, or not, but has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year

Answer:Missing Display adapter

You need to find the drivers. Non-ACPI-compliant drivers will also prevent stand-by from functioning. Use these apps to get details on what adapter you have and what mainboard you have so you can install its chipset driver.

I have 2 TVs currently serving as my screens. I've lately been helping family and friends fix small issues on their computers. I've come across a few PCs that have only a VGA Display Port, while both of my screens only have HDMI ports.
I asked someone at a local parts store, if a wire that is VGA male one side and HDMI male the other, would do the job. He told me in long detail why that would never work, that I needed a signal converter to change the display signal.
Basically he said when adapting a VGA screen to a HDMI port was possible, and the reverse (HDMI screen to VGA port in pc) is not.

My question is, if I bought the cord linked below, would I have to do anything else other than just plugging it in? Or do I indeed need this converter I was told about?

Thanks in advance

Answer:VGA to HDMI Display Adapter

You will need a signal converter of some type. A simple wire cable with different connectors on each end will not work. A VGA output has three analog video signals. An HDMI input expects all digital signals.

I have this laptop for three years now. My display adapter is AMD Radeon HD-6310M and the driver is 8.792.2.4000 (1/25/11). I have been told to update my driver as that an old driver might cause BSOD which I have had a couple of times lately. Nothing terrible, nothing lost, just the inconvenience of waiting for a reboot.

In my adapter properties there is an option to update the driver but there is also a warning that "if the device fails after updating driver, roll back to previously installed driver" There is a button to "roll back to previous driver".

I am 70 years old and no great mind. My questions:

1. Should I update the driver?
2. What actually happens if "the device fails after updating driver ....."? Would I still be able to see anything on my screen, e.g. the button to "roll back to previous driver"?
NOTE: Somewhere else - I don't remember where - it says "This device is working properly"

Incidentally, when the two crashes occurred I had Thunderbird, Windows Explorer, Libroffice Calc, and two tabs of Chrome open. I don't know if that is of any importance.

Any advice to this old geezer appreciated in advance.

For some reason or another, my display driver all of a sudden just stopped working. I believe that I messed with it a few months ago when I tried to update it. I was playing a computer game and wanted to improve my graphics so I could play the game smoother. Needless to say, I must have messed with my computer because now I really can't play any computer games.

But lately, something odd has happened. While I can connect to the Internet just fine, my computer seems to be slower than normal. And it's not the speed of the computer, but the whole idea of scrolling and moving windows. It seems like the computer needs an extra second to catch up to me while before it didn't need any extra time.

What should I do? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Display Adapter Not Working?

the best remedy might be to start over regarding the display drivers, if you aren't very careful updating ati or nvidia drivers, the old ones stay around and cause conflicts, which seems to be the case for you

make sure your agp or motherboard inf for pci-e is up to date and then run a driver cleaner program for your video chipset,
reboot after every step, use control panel/add and remove programs for anything that relates to video

windows will try to reinstall old drivers if you let it, it's more of an art than a science to making this work, very hit or miss I am afraid

you will know when you did it right and get a clean install of the right driver, that's when I don't touch it again

Answer:display adapter not configured

Remove it from the Device Manager and reboot. That should ask for new position of drivers (or use the default which you can then change).

Hi there:

I bought a used system on Ebay for a friend (who couldn't afford a new system). Here are the specs:

Pentium II 350
6.4 GB HD
128 RAM
S3 Trio 3D on board video
WME

I am having problems with the display adapter. The system kept freezing on her and at various times when she'd boot it would be in B/W. So I assumed the drivers needed updated on the video. I hit the www.s3graphics.com site and downloaded the drivers. When I got to update them - the system automatically detects a standard graphics VGA card. ?? I've gone into Safe Mode to try to change to the S3 and it keeps telling me the drivers were not meant for this device.

My question is - if I were to purchase a PCI video card (new inexpensive) do I first need to REMOVE from the Device Manager all other Display Adapters, power off, then insert new card and reboot and let Windows find it? I don't want to mess up the system any more than it is!

Thanks!

Answer:Display adapter question

Disabling the onboard video can sometimes be problematic. If there is a choice in the BIOS it is the best bet. The choice is usually AGP to PCI, but your board might not be new enough to have AGP. Grub around the BIOS.

Some MBs have jumpers to disable the onboard video. If you can find out what the MB is you might find some reference to the jumpers on the maker’s site.

Some people have success just disabling the video in device manager by selecting “disable in this hardware profile”, shutting down and installing the new card.

Make sure you can return the card if you can’t get it installed.

Look for something in the driver you downloaded to expand it – like an .exe file. Sometimes pointing the driver install to the folder doesn’t work – you have to get it to the right file. Is there more than one file in the download?

So I just got through totally cosmetically restoring my old Dell Inspiron 8000 which some members on here might be too familiar with... ¯\_(?)_/¯ Anyway, I installed Windows Millennium Edition so that I could install all of the drivers and programs for it, and I had a problem with the screen flickering on the right side, but I just guessed it was a Millennium Edition problem and disregarded it... then I upgraded to Windows XP, and guess what! The flickering issue was still there. The only things I can think of now are that my display adapter is going out, or I installed a driver that for whatever reason, is not agreeing with the display adapter. I downloaded the latest driver from Dell's website for the card rather than what has worked fine in the past for me, which would be installing the driver that I got on a CD straight from Dell meant to reinstall drivers on Inspiron 8000s, but that's an older driver than the one I got straight off of Dell's website so I don't know why that would be a problem. Tomorrow, I might swap out the card in there right now with another ATI Mobility M4 that I know works perfectly and that I have had stored in an anti-static bag to see if it's my display adapter or the driver that's being retarded. Of course, I've a video right here showing my display problem with some glorious onestop.mid in the background. Does anybody know what's up? Thanks in advance...

Crashed, reformatted, reinstalled Win98, finally got everything back to normal except the display. If I remember correctly, I had the same problem in the same circumstances 2 years ago, but that time it only took me a couple of days to fix it (of COURSE I didn't back it up!!!) and I've been at it for over a week with no luck this time. I'm on a P2 with a SiS6326 8m AGP graphics adapter and a Cybervision C50 monitor. I've progressed through about a million configurations, using the standard win drivers in combination with the (downloaded) cybervision and SiS drivers- in all of them I can only get 16 colors and 640 res, and when I boot up, I get an error message telling me that my display adapter is not configured properly, if I'd like to do it now- yada- yada... takes me to win HW wizard. With the SiS drivers and a standard Win98 monitor configuration, display adapter>properties>resources was saying that my display adapter was attempting to use resources reserved for the PnP system board extension, but wouldn't let me change them manually, and there was only one pre-configured setting. Now, at least, with standard SuperVGA display adapter and standard Super VGA 1024 monitor drivers, I can choose 256 or 16-bit color, and change the screen area (the options are on-screen and available), but I can't apply them, whether I use the reset on shut-down option or not. I still get the "display adapter...config" error msg.

Hi,

I had a compaq cq61-313AX with windows 7, this machine packed it in. Bought an ( i assumed) identical computer with vista.
This is a cq61-210tu. I much prefer 7 and thought I could simply put my old harddrive in. Works fine except:

All my usb wont install properly - code 37 - driver cannot initialize

Two Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family display adapters keep installing, one says it works, the other is a code 12.
Tells me to uninstall one so it has resources. Hp website says I have a Nvidia geforce g103m.

Tried updating drivers, tried uninstalling, they just come back...
Not a complete noob but I'm stuck here. Help much appreciated as cannot use my computer for anything good until this is resolved.
