IE 11 search pane deprecated

Question: IE 11 search pane deprecated

Hello!
We have a giant problem: our legacy ERP system - originally build for IE 6 on XP - uses the search pane as its main menu.
Since IE 10 will soon be out of support, we urgently need an alternative:

either an add-on that replaces the search paneor the search pane can be re-enabled in IE 11 (e. g. using a hidden registry setting)
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks!
L.

Preferred Solution: IE 11 search pane deprecated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there

I would be grateful for somebody's help but am not hugely computer savvy so can only explain and understand simple pc speak!

For a couple of months now every time I start up the pc I get three extra tabs appearing - Easylifeapp Search, a Google tab and a Lavasoft tab. Now I've noticed a new window pane appearing on the left of my screen with a small capital T in the top left corner. This contains a "related searches" results that I didn't look for.

I've been researching how to get rid of the Easylifeapp and Lavasoft and have removed them from extensions and add ons but they keep returning on startup. I use Chrome. I run Malwarebytes regularly enough but that doesn't seem to be successful. I've also run Piriform CCCleaner (don't know if this is good or bad..) but no success either.

It's all very frustrating and my laptop is definitely acting up more lately which I'm sure is down to this kind of stuff messing with it.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Chilliflake

I don't have that option above...

Answer:Where is the Search Pane?

I do not either. However, the layout options apparently vary by what type of window is being displayed (according to some reading materials).

FWIW, I lost the ability to get into Folder Options at all. I think it may have vanished when I uninstalled a trial of TotalCommander. I now use Explorer2, which I like a lot better anyway.

Click on a blank spot on your desktop (so you have focus on the desktop, but not on anything actually on the desktop) and press F3. Inutuitive, isn't it?

I ran into a weird problem. I am regularly a Firefox user. Today, I opened up a site in IE because it looked weird in Firefox. That wasn't the problem, though. The problem was that, minutes later, I accidentally clicked on the "view this page in IE" (which was added by the similarly named Firefox addon) option in Firefox's right-click menu. So IE popped up, but strangely with the search left-pane open, and froze.

Since then I haven't been able to run IE, which I need for Windows Update.

What happens now whenever I start IE is that the window will appear with the search pane opened, but the pane will be blank. There's no error message whatsoever, but IE will simply stop responding at this point. Since there's no error message, it's kinda hard to tell what's wrong, but I'm suspecting that there's somthing wrong with the search pane script that's bugging IE. So, is there any way, say a command line option, that can make IE start without any pane open? Or is there a way to clean up the search pane to make sure there's nothing wrong inside? Or is there another likely cause for the problem?

Answer:IE freezing with search pane

For starters, try typing iexplore.exe -e -nohome in the Run... window, and post back if this works normally.
Otherwise, we'll take it from there.

Recently, when I use click the "Search" button, the search pane extends over the whole screen and no longer displays the width bar or close button. If I search and click a link, the pane remains and covers the page. If I click the Favorites button while the Search pane is open, IE hangs. I have to click it open and closed or right click it and select "Close Toolbar". I can no longer toggle between search and favorites using the IE buttons. This happened recently and I have not added anything to IE except the Yahoo toolbar. Removing this didn't help. Anybody with similar problems or know a possible solution?

For some reason, every time I click on a folder or drive, it opens the search window with the given folder in the "Search in" bar. I went to Microsoft.com and followed the instructed remedy for this (openning up the registry editor and changing ROOT/Directory/Default value to "none" and that didn't work).

I really need help with this. I even did a system restore to a week ago. Can anyone help?

Hi:
I have a terrific HP Laptop which I purchased back in 2007 or 2008 and I rarely use it until last month, probably only once or twice a week with only a few hours.

Recently, I started to use HP Laptop on daily basis and found 'Search' at the left side of the pane/screen is missing/lost when clicking on 'Search' at the top. 'Search' at the address bar is perfectly OK tho'.

Is this issue related to not use it for a while, .... or how did it disappear?

Only seen is 'Google' ad. popping up upon clicking at 'Search' on the tool-bar of the top.

How can I rescue 'Search' at the left pane of screen?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Answer:Missing 'Search' at the left pane of the screen

Are you talking about Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer or what?

Do you mean the "Search" option is missing when you (for example) right-click on your "C:" drive?

I have tried to find my situation in here, and cannot find it. I am on my laptop because my Windows pc is acting erratic. The search pane keeps popping up, with the left side saying to download Chrome. I don't have Chrome installed. I try to type in my password, and it starts typing by itself, like the key is pressed down a long time. Is this my keyboard or a bug? The area where I type flickers too. I try to go into control panel, and the selection keeps going up and down. I think I may have two different viruses. I have Norton Suite from Comcast. I did the full scan once, and it found something called a Heuristic Virus, which is deleted/quarantined. The pc was fine after that. The firewall has been on. However, it has now returned the next time I turn on the pc. If this keeps returning even after Norton Security Suite cleans up my pc what do I do?
Do I have a keylogger virus?

Let's find out if you have any infections or not.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Hoping some Command Line Guru has figured this one out.

With Windows 8.1, the 'AT' command is not long available to us. It has been "deprecated". Leaving aside from the misuse of the term "deprecated", I'm left with the problem of how to perform a scheduled
Shutdown, or Restart of Windows from the command line.

The recommendation is to run SCHTASKS

The function that I would like to perform is: at 10:00 shutdown /f /r
(schedules a restart of Windows at 10 am)

Never having used the SCHTASKS command before, I'm wondering about the syntax. After looking at the Microsoft documentation, it
appears as if I need to user schtasks /run ; however, how can we schedule the shutdown at a specific time?

Thanks, in advance!

We all know Windows 10 is just an inconsistent mess with mixture of styles from more than 30 years of Windows, which is just unacceptable. I won't go into deep UWP inconsistencies and even context menus. I don't get why everyone is so excited about this fluent uglyness, when the only thing that's going to happen is Microsoft adds just another style layer on top of the other 60000 in the OS and make even bigger mess. How long do the users have to settle with this bullsh*t "Windows will never be completed. It is a work in progress". Here are some screenshots of legacy UI that I found. Is there an official statement form Microsoft about when there are going to address this? Remove wordpad, wma, and all kinds of crap from the OS. Windows 10 is just pure sh*t.

I've noticed recently that Internet Explorer isn't working with Flash objects like games and stuff on pages. What happens is, whenever I press the arrow keys on my keyboard, the page scrolls, even though I clicked inside the Flash object to give it focus, instead of the page.

This was sudden, I changed nothing. And this also happened to everyone else using Internet Explorer. NOTE: It didn't happen on every website though, some websites still work fine with Internet Explorer, including their Flash objects.

Regardless, the people I was going to had no solutions for me except to switch to Firefox. So grudgingly and with little choice otherwise, I switched. But I noticed something. Pages in Firefox were being rendered differently than in Internet Explorer. Like, colors, and table alignment and stuff. I found out that this was because the code on those pages was deprecated, and while Internet Explorer can read both deprecated code AND some current standard code, Firefox can't read deprecated code at all. So if a color hexcode is missing it's hashtag, the code is thrown out and the colors are not recognized. Also, text in tables, by default, align to the left in Firefox. In Internet Explorer, they align to the center.

Has anyone noticed these problems with Internet Explorer and Firefox? Are fixes on the way? Is there anything I can do to either be able to use Flash objects in IE, or render pages properly in Firefox?

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

Hi Guys

Until now, when in OUTLOOK I clicked NEW in order to start a new message to send, the "reading" pane was on the right - and a NAVIGATION pane was on the left.
I don't know what happened, but now the navigation pane is gone when I click NEW and the new message pane covers the entire screen?
Any ideas to get the nav pane back?

Question: Detail pane

Hi,

This is my first thread in this forum.

I have just upgraded Vista -> 7 and Windows Explorer is driving me crazy.
What I do is following:

1. I choose a folder i Navigation Pane and Detail Pane is only showing File name in a narrow column.
2. Then I customize the Detail Pane ... detail view, more columns, column width ... and so on
3. Drag the Name column so I can see all the columns
4. Fine ... everything looks OK
5. Close Window Explorer and restarts it again
6. The customization for the detail pane are there ... but the column witdth is so narrow that I only can see File name
7. I have to drag the column witdth every time to see the other colums ... very annoying

Answer:Detail pane

in seven, there's no more "remember folder view option" . I don't know why they removed it. which means every time you get to that folder, you need to change it again. and out.again.

however I came across some fix but I can't confirm if this is what you want

Hi guys, I'm hoping you can help with this problem?

When I access a website I am getting a window pane down the right hand side of IE and I have no idea why?

At first I thought it may be some kind of spyware but I have fully scanned and removed anything I could find and I still get it. I cannot see any options to remove it in the toolbars at all?

Has anyone had this issue before and if so do you know how to solve it? Any help would be appreciated.

Question: Preview Pane

One of the more useful features of both Vista and Windows 7 is the inline "Preview Pane" of Windows Explorer.

On little quirk I've discovered in Windows 7 is that when you resize a Windows Explorer window, the Preview Pane is resized also, in favour of the file lists. However, I like my preview pane a specifc size.

The follow method is one workaround I used with success:Click the "Hide Preview Pane" icon in the upper right corner (to the left of Help) of Windows Explorer
Resize the Windows Explorer window to how you want it
Click the "Show Preview Pane" icon in the upper right corner (to the left of Help) of Windows Explorer
Has anyone found a way (either via a UI Setting, or a Registry entry) to keep the Preview Pane a fixed size, so that the above workaround does not have to be used?

Answer:Preview Pane

Yeah, I'm not to crazy about that one myself. I usually end up just manually dragging the Preview Pane line over.

I'm trying to make it so that Navigation pane would be disabled whenever I open folder shortcuts, such as music, documents, pictures, but I want to keep it enabled when I got to My computer or Windows explorer. However it seems that its either enabled or disabled for all folders. Any way to fix that?

Also, is there anyway to make windows remember each folders individual settings? It seems whenever I open a folder, and resize it, any other folder will open exactly the same size as the previous open folder. I believe even Windows XP had an option to remember folder settings.

I understand that in XP Home when opening My Computer or an explorer window, the task pane should be shown on the left hand side by default. Microsoft Word's Navigation pane theoretically has keyboard shortcuts associated with the right-click menu items available there, e.g.:Alt-E: Expand All
Alt-C: Collapse All
In particular, I'd like to know the shortcut sequence to collapse the heading levels displayed to 2. The sequence indicated is Alt-H,Alt-2.

The problem is that I can't figure out how to initiate these shortcuts within the context of the Navigation menu. For instance, when the Navigation pane is active and I use Alt-H, it still shifts focus to the Home tab (the "global" binding of Alt-H).

How can I use keyboard shortcuts to access the menu items in the Navigation pane?

I just discovered you can hit ALT + P to show a preview pane. What useful things do you guys get out of this function?

I noticed it shows album art for some mp3. Does anyone know where it is getting this picture from?

One kind of neat thing it does is show off how detailed icons are. Noone ever really gets to see that level of detail on them, so now the artists work can be seen more.

I remember when icons were barely more than colored dots, like 16X16 or something.

The mp3 album art displayed in the preview pane is embedded in the mp3 file itself, inside the ID3v2 tag.

You can read the tutorial I wrote on how to do this yourself: Windows Media Player Library Album Art

I have had win7 installed for quite a while now and all seems ok'ish.

My problem is, that when ever I go to open or save files from various programs first noticed in Firefox, the navigation pane is empty and subsequently I can not change to the desired location.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

I get the message "the file cant be previewed" in the preview pane when i highlight pdfs

It works for other file types just not pdf

what is the solution ???

Answer:PDF not working in Preview Pane

Hello badboi and welcome to the Forum. Does your computer have a separate PDF reader installed? It's my understanding that Windows 7 does not natively support pdf files. A few free sources:

Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions (fairly bloated)

Foxit Software - Foxit Reader for Windows (tries to install toolbars, etc read install instructions carefully)

Nitro PDF Reader (my free reader of choice)

There are other free readers available so I'd suggest installing one, see if your preview issues are solved, then play around with a few until you find your reader of choice.

Next I snap ALwil software -Image -3

I try to expand the folder of Alwil software. It disgustingly goes and sits at the bottom. -Image -4

It happens everytime and if folder has still more folders it is still irritating. I have to compress the folder and expand it again , and only then it goes to the top. I have seen this behavior in Win 7 premium editions too.

Answer:Explorer Pane behavior.

Try this. Go to Organize-.Folder and search options and uncheck Automatically expand to current folder.
