Keyboard/touchpad stop working randomly

Question: Keyboard/touchpad stop working randomly

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

Preferred Solution: Keyboard/touchpad stop working randomly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Compaq V6000 Vista Home, (32 bit) service pack 2. Computer about four years old. Motherboard replaced about four months ago because of graphic chips issue.

After a period of time / 30 min or so(?) (varies) the touchpad stops working. The blue power light continues to stay on, indicating the pad is still ?turned on? but the pad and buttons don't function. When the touchpad goes into this state, the icon on the bottom toolbar disappears. I also loose all sound, although the speaker icon remains.

When in this state the touchpad blue power light stays on and pushing the touchpad power button has no affect. (it should turn it off and illuminate an orange light)

The touch pad will also go into this state if the computer goes into the hibernate or sleep mode. One interesting thing, when in sleep or hibernate mode, you can awaken the computer by touching the touchpad surface, indicating to me that the pad is working until the computer comes ?awake.? After it wakes up, the blue blight is still on but the touchpad is inoperable.

If the touchpad is working, you can enter the sleep mode, return and the touchpad will continue to function normally.

To restore the touchpad and sound, the computer must be restarted. After that, everything works fine for a while. (time varies)

I can plug in a USB mouse to get around this issue.

I have done extensive research on Google. This issue has been happening at least since 2009. (although I didn't run across the sound issue mentioned) ... Read more

Hi Mpchell,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad and Keyboard is not working as expected even after performing all the possible troubleshooting steps. Hence, the only available option to check if the issue is hardware related is by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) using OKR (One Key Recovery).

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

If the issue persists, I would strongly suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

A couple weeks ago while using my laptop, the keyboard and mouse pad suddenly froze up/lost power. No response to usb ports or cd drive. The screen stayed on, fan, power, even wifi connection stayed on, but couldn't get anything moving. The power button didn't respond so I had to unplug power and remove battery to shut it down. Worked fine after I restarted it.

Now, the same thing just happened again, on a DIFFERENT laptop with a different OS, browser, everything.

WTH?

Thanks

They just stop, they don't turn off, they aren't disconnected, the computer still running fine, nothing unusual but the mouse and the keyboard. I don't think this is a problem with the keyboard and mouse because until yesterday I it was a mouse only problem and I was going to buy a new one, but now the keyboard also stop responding and I'm worried. They stop for only a few sec, around 10~~20 secs before normalizing.

Hello and welcome maridan48 mate first and most obvious question is have you tried another KB and mouse?

Next are the devices simple units or larger gaming ones that may have drivers?

Third if they are USB connected are the machine's USB drivers up to date - don't rely on the Windows driver test use manufacturers sites.

Hello everyone I have been having a rather annoying issue for a while now. This mostly happens on start up and once desktop loads up either my USB mouse freezes or my keyboard doesn't work or sometimes BOTH. My keyboard is a PS/2 Keyboard. It seems the only solution when both freeze at the same time is to either restart the computer or unplug them and plug them back in. This morning when I booted it up my mouse immediately was frozen and I unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it is working. This error is very random and sometimes doesn't happen immediately on start up but while browsing the Internet a decent amount of time after start up. Another important thing I forgot to mention is I get NO blue screen or no error message it just stops working. I have no idea as to what could be causing this problem so if anyone could please assist me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

I have a toshiba laptop.  The keyboard on the laptop died a while ago, so I purchased an ONN USB keyboard.  Where I am a gamer, I also purchased a Logistics USB mouse.  I installed Windows 8.1 quite a while back and have never had a problem
with it until now.  At times the mouse buttons fail to work, and the keyboard seems to have random keystrokes attached to it.  For instance, when this happens, I can move my mouse pointer around, and can click on individual tabs, but I can't type
anything into any text windows.  I also can't power down the computer by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen and having the options (Search, Settings, etc) come up.  I move my pointer to the edge of the screen and nothing happens.  With
the keyboard, I cannot enter text into any text window, but sometimes entering text will cause strange keystrokes. For instance if I click into the web address window and try to type a single letter, all I get are web addresses I may have visited the day before,
cycling through them one after the other.  Or if I try to type a single letter such as w, the program will turn itself off.  I can re-click to re-open Firefox again, but again I cannot enter any addresses in the address window, and any keystroke
will either turn the program off or just randomly cycle through addresses.
I am not very computer literate so I have no idea what is going on. The only new thing that has happened to my computer is ... Read more

Hi,

I've been recently having a few problems with my mouse and keyboard, generally it's the keyboard freezes, then my mouse goes (because I have a USB Hub incorporated into my keyboard and that's where my mouse is plugged in), this is really strange because I've been using the setup for over a month now and I haven't had any problems up until recently, where I had to do a huge amount of Windows Updates. Could that me the source of my problems?

P.S. I'm posting from my laptop, because I just cannot use my PC it's almost impossible, so I will get the dump logs and specs of my computer as soon as I can get it to work for a few minutes without me ending up crying.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Mouse and Keyboard Randomly Stop Working

Hi ParadAUX and Welcome to sevenforums I hope you'll enjoy your stay here.

Could you please provide us with a little bit more information about the computer, would really help us if you were able to get the motherboard model, keyboard and mouse model numbers, it's just really hard to know what the issue might be.

Though have you tried plugging the mouse directly into the PC rather than having it in the keyboard usb hub?

Cheers!
Boris

My PC won't go into sleep mode either automatically or manually so I just leave it on all day (the screen will go off at the pre-determined time though). However, that's not my issue as I've learned to live with it. I'm just mentioning it because it could be related to the following issue that just started happening yesterday.

When I come down to use the PC after it's been sitting unused for a few hours, the screen is off and I can still hear the fans running and the power light is on, as always. Usually all I have to do is hit a key or move the mouse and the screen comes back on and away I go. The last couple days though, the keyboard and mouse (both USB) appear to have "turned off" (no lights showing on either) during the idle period. Then, no matter what I do I can't get the screen to come back on because they keyboard and mouse have somehow went off.

At that point all I can do is a hard shutdown (holding the power button until the machine turns off) and reboot at which time everything's fine.

Anyone know what's going on? It's one of those "everything was fine for weeks and then all of a sudden" things.

This is a Windows 7 32bit machine, fully updated and no recent changes made.

Answer:Keyboard and mouse randomly stop working

Since you are doing hard shut downs, I highly recommend a Disk Check with Automatically fix file system errors checked.
As to the mouse/keyboard issue, please provide more information. Are these USB or PS/2 devices?

Also, we have no idea if you have a laptop, desktop, or an HP UFO running Windows 7 (the last one is just a joke; HP has no UFOs to my knowledge ). Please fill in your system specs in your profile and not in a post in this thread: System Info - See Your System Specs

So i just started up my computer today, and after about 10 minutes, while on youtube, my mouse and keyboard stopped working. The lights on the keyboard and mouse where still on. I had to shut down my computer through the power button, and after i started it up, CHKDSK did a check on windows. After 10 minutes of booting it up again, (again being on youtube in mozilla firefox), same thing happened. I am typing this through safe mode and ran malwarebytes, but it doesn't detect anything.
What can i do to fix this? Thanks

Specs: Windows 10 64bit(Windows 7 ultimate 64bit) P67 Sabertooth Motherboard I don't remember the PSU brand but it was gold rated 1000W Logitech G500S mouse Alienware Keyboard Also Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo

Observed Action:

I'm doing whatever, usually something graphics intensive(movie or game) or browsing reddit. Then the mouse will stop working for 1-15 seconds. The mouse has an LED mouse speed gauge that will turn off occasionally when this happens the first time or two. After an indeterminate amount of power failures(sometimes 0, usually 2-3, as high as 11) of the mouse, it will stop working completely until restart. Sometimes the keyboard stops working also. Sometimes if I have the wireless keyboard combo plugged in with the gaming mouse, just the gaming mouse will stop working. Sometimes all 3. Some nights I will go through an entire night of gaming without a single failure. Some nights I have 10+ complete failures.

Plugging into different ports/hubs on the motherboard changes nothing. Plugging into USB 3.0 does nothing. I have 5 HDDs, one 120gb first gen intel SSD boot drive, one 3-TB, two 500gb, one 250gb. I've reformatted the SSD, but not the others. I upgraded from Win7 to Win10 today....no change. Hello everyone, this problem had started for me only about 3 or so days ago, and is rather annoying. What happens is that randomly while using the mouse, it would freeze up and I would hear the "Device Disconnect" sound, and a second later the mouse would work again. This happens absolutely randomly, and after a bunch of times, both the keyboard and the mouse completely stops working. They are both connected to the USB ports on the motherboard at the back of the computer, and unplugging and replugging does not make them work again. I have tried plugging them into other USB ports, such as in the front and top of the PC, and they start working again, but only temporarily until they once again stop working completely after like 10-30 mins or so. The only solution to get the mouse and keyboard working again [temporarily], is to restart the PC using the main power button. When they stop working, the numlock light is still lit on the keyboard, but the keyboard does not respond, and I have a small indicator light on my laser mouse that just starts blinking, when it normally has never done that. Everything else is still working, such as any music playing, and the internet. I have read soooo many forum posts on the internet and have tried sooo many different things, and nothing has worked thus far, and that is why I am posting, so that perhaps someone could find a solution. Things I have already done:
I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the usb, mouse, and keyboard drive... Read more

Welcome to SevenForums.

Are you using 2 antiviruses on your computer by any chance?

There are no blue screen dump files in your zip. Are you getting BSOD-s or just the issue with the keyboard and mice? Did you try different keyboard or mice?

Do not use CCleaner if you're getting BSOD-s. It can clean away the dump files.

Follow the tutorial below, it might help:USB Driver - General Fix for Problems
Check for a BIOS update:

Code:
BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. A06, 10/17/2011
Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:
Click on the
Type CMD on Search
Left click and Run as Administrator
Type SFC /scannow

As of lately my mouse and keyboard sometimes just stop working. It seems to happen more often while I'm playing games (but that's mostly what I do so not sure if that has anything to do with it ). Usually before it happens I'll hear the usb sound and the mouse will disconnect and reconnect and it'll work fine then just out of the blue it'll disconnect and that's that. I have to shutdown and restart. It only just started doing this a couple weeks ago. My mouse is a logitech UAE-96 (I think) and the keyboard is a microsoft ergonomic 4000, its an ASUS MoBo, I've checked keyboard drivers and they are up to date and I've also checked my usb drivers, also up to date. I used the mouse on my laptop for quite awhile before I built this pc and never had a problem.

Answer:7 x64 mouse and keyboard randomly stop working.

I'm going to make a new post about the issue I'm having. It's a similar problem to yours.
Take a look. I've done lots of troubleshooting and still no luck. Try turning of the power saving feature on the USB devices.

Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options/Edit Plan Settings - Change Advanced Power settings

If a USB mouse and keyboard scroll to USB devices open the Plus mark, and disable the power feature. This will prevent windows from shutting off power to the device, a common cause for this problem. Hope it works for you. If not rule out the mouse and keyboard by trying them on other computers, then start walking down the road I'm on...lol

Hello. I am hoping that someone will have a solution to some weirdnesses going on with my Acer 5050. It came with Vista but I reformatted the hard drive and installed XP. Everything had been going smoothly until I decided to download Service Pack 3. While Service Pack 3 was downloading my network hiccuped or something and Service Pack 3 was aborted mid download. After that happened the computer was a complete mess, so I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed XP. I am now at the point of downloading all MS XP updates, virus protection, anti-spyware etc.

The problem I seem to be having is sometimes after a reboot the touchpad and keyboard will not work. An external wireless mouse will though. I find if I do a reboot both the touchpad and the keyboard will come back to life but often when the touchpad and keyboard will not work the computer will not reboot, I must pull out the battery to get the silly machine to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Brenda

Hello Forum,
I am working on my mom's PC as she is having major problems.
I'm guessing the recommended solution is going to be a complete new installation when I describe the problems :-)

She has had a few credit card numbers stolen/used and her e-mail was compromised.
Windows Defender was disabled and I could not enable it, but now that is fixed (it is again disabled, but this time by the Anti-Virus Program and not the malware). Internet Explorer could not open websites as it always said that the security settings were blocking the website.  Because of these errors, I removed a lot of malware with ADWCleaner, Emsisoft, and Malwarebytes. I'm not convinced I got it all though.

The remaining problems are that the PC is extremely slow, the mouse and keyboard randomly stop working (multiple wired devices tested), and random Ads pop up on websites (from AdChoice and WebAds) that should have no ads.

The speed of the PC is not of interest to me in this post, I can get to that by cleaning up the startup applications etc.  But I am guessing it will speed up once all malware is removed.

Now the PC info:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
GFI Software Vipre Anti-Virus 2014

I hope that's enough info to get us started on a solution!

Thanks in advance,
Dave

If you have yellow exclamation marks in device manager you should install all missing drivers.

Last but not least don?t forget to install all available Windows 7 updates that you can get thorugh Windows Update.

mouse stopped working, but the sound still worked. The power button did not work, and when I closed my laptop the sounds kept playing. When I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back on the mouse no longer lit up. I waited a bit for laptop to fix itself, to
no avail. I had to open the laptop up and unplug a cable connecting the batter to something to turn off the laptop, plugged it back in, and the laptop worked fine. The same issue happened where the keyboard stopped working and the screen froze, except this
time the sound stopped and the power button still worked. Why did this happen, and how can I stop this from happening again?
The laptop I use is the one in this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYYDMQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good morning,                             I recently have pruchased a Lenovo Thinkpad S1 Yoga the intel i5 vpro SSD model. I currently have stripped it from windows 8.1 to windows 7. I have fully updated the machine via Windows update and as well with the Lenovo Update software. Everything is currently up to date even the bios. However my issue lies within the Keyboard and Mouse randomly through out the day quit working and the only thing left that works is the Touch screen.  I have read numerous posts on this issue for different Yoga models ( the 2 and 3). They all stated to disable the YMC service. Thats great in all but that service is non existent on the machine under the Services configuration. I have also tried running a CMD net stop YMC to no avail it comes back invalid name....

Hello, I purchased Cooler Master's Devastator gaming gear combo off amazon and received it yesterday. Randomly today the ASDF and JKL; keys (oddly enough the keys you were taught to put your fingers on in elementary school) stopped working. However, they sometimes do work, but then stop again... It does not seem to be a keyboard command or anything like that, the device is getting enough power for the backlight to work, this still occurs with the backlight off, I have restarted my PC, tried different Usb drives and deducted that it was just that keyboard(the one I'm using now is fine) and finally, there is nothing inside those keys.
I feel the problem must lie within the software of the keyboard as there looks like there is nothing wrong with it physically.
I have been googling this all day and have fund nothing even close to the problem I am having.
It would be a huge hassle try and get a refund and I was very happy with the product before this problem occurred. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Answer:Devastator Keyboard ASDF and JKL; keys randomly stop working

Since the old keyboard works it looks like a hardware fault so I would return it and ask for a new one or a refund.

I use a Turtle Beach EarForce PX3 (wireless headset) and a wireless Logitech keyboard. After using my computer for a while (few hrs.), my keyboard and headset both 'freeze up' for about 2 seconds every few minutes. My keyboard will act as if my finger is still on the button I was pressing (if I was pressing one) and my headset (both speakers and mic) stop working during these 2 seconds. I used to think it was just my headset until I recently started using a wireless keyboard. I also use a netgear wireless USB adapter. Another thing: my internet connection does not go out during this time as far as I am aware. Does anyone know how I can fix this? (I'm not that good at explaining things, please ask if you need a better explanation of something)

this sounds like a issue(s) I have also had before. And to me the part where you say its freezing up after about 2 minutes; sounds like it could be a "too much cpu usage issue". Which means there are too many things running in the background and not enough processor and or ram to power it properly. This could also be a windows driver(s) issue. I might try and reinstall the drivers for these devices and see if that doesnt help resolve it.

Ok, so I've I thought this problem was ultimately isolated to just opening photoshop: but now it just does it with any program period. How it works is my computer randomly reboots and when it starts back up again the mouse, keyboard, and sometimes monitor are not working. I recently installed new RAM, a nvidia gtx 760 graphics card and a new power supply.

I've tried everything, sfc/scannow, disabling the automatic restart on a fatal error: but it does it anyways, reinstalling/updating the drivers, checking the temperature, air dusting it out, ect: everything short of tactical nuclear weaponry, but this problem just wont take a hint.

Any help would be much appreciated: I'm nearing a deadline and this problem its starting to be a thorn in my side

Edit: now my computer just froze and shut down

Edit: my computer has now bluescreened, it listed no error code but I got a line of text reading 0x0000007F

Its says the crash was caused by: ntoskrnl.exe

Hey guys, I've had this problem forever now and nothing I try has fixed it! I'd SOOOO appreciate any help I can get. I have a Rocketfish Wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse and they have worked great for quite a while, but not anymore. I forget exactly when the problem started, but I have upgraded my motherboard and everything else that matters in my computer and reinstalled a valid windows vista basic OS on my PC and the problem still persists. So the problem is that both, the mouse and keyboard, keep freezing throughout the day usually at the same time as each other or one after the other. But after about 30-40 seconds they start working again. I notice it happens more frequently when I'm running more apps or playing a high demanding game, but my computer always has leftover resources for anything that may need them. So makes no sense. On occasion, for no apparent reason, my screen will rotate to any orientation. I have to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to get the orientation back to where needed. Also, on occasion, for no apparent reason, I lose the ability to use my touchpad and keyboard, and need to use the touchscreen in order to do anything. I also need to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to regain use of the touchpad and keyboard.  I've updated all software and drivers out of frustration, but nothing has helped. Help!!

For the past couple of weeks, the touchpad and keyboard on my laptop have either been shutting down randomly at different times or dont work at all when I start up. Sometimes both work, sometimes only my keyboard works, and then sometimes only my keyboard will work amd than eventually it will shut down too.I just want to know what could be causing this and if I can fix it on my own. I never had a problem like this before.

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU
Windows 10 Home 64bit (upgraded from Win7 and then reset to a fresh state)
AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics
6GB RAM
Synaptics Driver Version: 19.0.12.95 06Jul15
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Lenovo ThinkPad PS/2 keyboard

This is very exasperating. I would appreciate some help in stopping this problem permanently, thanks.

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

Hello Lenovo Community, A few weeks ago, my touchpad on my e430 began left-clicking and right-clicking randomly. That is, it will click rapidly and repeatedly on whatever my cursor is hovering over, even if my fingers are not anywhere near the laptop. This is a huge nuisance, as it's rendered the laptop almost inoperable thanks to this clicking causing windows to open and close, internet ads to be clicked on, and the right click options bar popping up several times a second. In addition, I've noticed that my keyboard has begun to malfunction as well, seemingly in tandem with the touchpad problem. Specifically, many keys don't work--or work only part of the time.  I've ran malware scans and virus scans and found nothing. I wonder if it might be related to moisture in the keyboard/touchpad area (the laptop became slightly wet due to a brief rain shower shortly before this problem began), but I am not sure. Can anyone provide insight on this problem and how I might fix it? I would greatly appreciate it. - LS

For some reason, I try to disable tapping and it keeps resetting the setting on its own. I think it might be a Lenovo software issue. Please advise.

Hello!
Two days ago I started having a terribly annoying problem with my Lumia 930 (running WP 8.1). I live in Brazil and the only thing I use in my phone that is in Portuguese is the keyboard, all the rest is in English.
The last few days my keyboard started pranking me, so to speak. I have deleted both English and Spanish keyboards, leaving Portuguese only, thus eliminating the keyboard language key that used to be on the left of the space key. But now my phone keeps reinstalling both English and Spanish keyboard, and that stupid keyboard language key is back there, shrinking the space key and sending the comma key to the other side!
And this keeps happening all day long I have no idea why...
Can anyone help me?

Laptop: Yoga 13When Purchased: Christmas, 2012 Problem: At random points of time, seemingly for no reason, the keyboard stops functioning. The only way I can type is to use the touch-screen keyboard. But the actual keyboard does not work. I have managed to fix it at times by bending the laptop into different positions/mashing down random buttons. But I don't want to be doing this EVERY time the keyboarrd stops working. So what gives? How do I fix it?

Answer:Keyboard Randomly Stop Functioning

Hi Gammon15,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Keyboard is not working as expected in Yoga13, below are the steps to get into BIOS menu and reset it to defaults and check the issue:

Shut down the computer completely.
Then press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup (Click here for BIOS simulation).

NOTE: Click here to download the user guide for Yoga 13 Laptop and refer page no.12 to locate the NOVO button.

If the issue persists even after performing BIOS reset, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance as the issue is hardware related. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

My dad got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago and he usually uses his laptop at a 90 degree angle in bed. So when he is on his side, the laptop is on it's side as well. When he does that with the Thinkpad Yoga, the touchpad and the keyboard are disabled and he cannot use the laptop like he wants to. I think because it's a setting to not accidentally touch the keyboard or mouse when using it in tablet mode.I cannot find any setting on how to stop Windows from disabling the touchpad and keyboard on rotate. I've turned off auto-rotate but can't see anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It happens randomly and suddenly, the keyboard AND mouse will just stop responding. The lights on the keyboard and mouse are still on, the computer is still running, the game is still running everything is working fine except the keyboard/mouse are not working. I have tried unplugging them and plugging them back in, in different ports and still they don't work. The only way to fix it is to restart the computer and then they work again. This seems to be happening more and more frequently with each occurrence.I have tried installing the latest Bios and drivers, Using a different keyboard and mouse, reinstalling windows, running in safe mode and it still happens.

I have tried:Using a Different Keyboard/MouseUpdating BiosReinstalling WindowsUsing different USB portsUpdating all other driversUnplugging everything and holding the power button for several seconds to release excess static build-up

Recently I have been having this problem where my PS/2 keyboard and mouse both stop responding. The lights are still on, but neither work. Sometimes it happens just to my mouse, and not the keyboard, but usually both. When it happens, they are not responding for anywhere from a few seconds, to a few minutes (but by that point I restart the computer). If it happens just to the mouse, putting the computer to sleep using the keyboard and wakening it again fixes the problem.

I have tried to update the drivers in device manager by letting windows search for them online, but it says they are up-to-date.

I also checked all the connections inside the computer, unplugging and re-plugging each one as well as air-dusting.

Is anyone able to help me find out whats wrong, or how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: If I can't find a fix, I think I will just purchase a USB mouse and keyboard, but I'd rather try fix the problem first.

EDIT 2: I am still very much in need of help.

Answer:Keyboard/Mouse randomly stop responding (PS/2)

Well, this can be hard to fix as normally we will suggest opening task manager or resource manager when this occurs to see if you are experiencing high cpu usage, which can cause input devices to become unresponsive. But to open those, you need...a keyboard and/or a mouse! If it only effects the mouse, you can try opening task manager with the keyboard (Ctrl+shift+Esc), and see if you are experiencing high CPU usage.

You can also try unplugging the unresponsive device, and plugging it back in to see if that re-enables it. If it is not an actual PS2 issue, a USB device may not correct the problem. If the problem was happening regularly, you could either boot to safe mode to see if it occurs there, or (better for prolonged testing), perform a clean start to see if there is a conflict causing the problem.

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

Keyboard and mouse stop working

Hi, I'm having some major problems with my Dell Dimension 8400 which runs on Windows XP.
It all started with some files found and replaced during chkdsk.
My PC was working fine yesterday, but today when I turned it on the problem started.
At first, everything is okay. Then, after the initial Windows page the screen goes black and a gray bar appears at the bottom. At this point, the keyboard and mouse shut off (lights go off) and stop working. Once the gray bar has finished loading (1-2 seconds), windows continues to start as usual. The only problem is when I get to the log in screen (where I have multiple user accounts) I cannot choose one to log on with because the keyboard and mouse do not work. I have tried unplugging them and putting them in the USB slot instead but to no avail. I cannot run safemode or anything because the same login screen comes up.
I tried hitting F12 initially and ran hard drive diagnostics which gave me the alarming result:
"Drive 0: ST3160023AS - FAIL - Return Code 7
Drive 2: No device"
Drive 4...my CD drive...diagnostics not supported
Drive 5...my DVD drive...diagnostics not supported

Any Suggestions? Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Keyboard and mouse stop working AND STOP 0X0000007B

Please follow the steps here for the Stop 0x0000007B error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103

As you will note, one cause can be a boot sector virus.

Return Code 7 can indicate hard drive failure. Drive 0 is the hard drive.

As for CHKDSK replacing files and causing this problem, it's not likely. Even IF you check both options- fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, it didn't 'cause' the problem, it just made it more evident.

Backup everything you do not want to lose and consider replacing the hard drive.

Hello, and good day everyone! Just a bit peculiar problem here that I cant seem to figure out with my PC. It is newly built (just about a month ago), and I am having a problem with my keyboard and mouse randomly stop responding, then somewhere between 10sec - 1min, it starts working again. Each time they do that, I hear a device disconnect, then a device connect sound. And this can happen while doing anything from gaming, to say typing up a forum post, and if my mouse doesnt stop, it lags around for a bit, then gets back up to speed.

I have went through a few keyboard and mice trying to figure out if it was a mobo issue, or an issue with the keyboard and mice. This problem started I want to say about a week or so after I built the computer. I have went into power options and disabled USB select suspend thinking that would do it, but to no justice did it work.

I also checked to see if was a driver issue by updating to latest drivers using IObit Driver Booster, along with scanning my system for any viruses and errors as well, and the problem still happens; here is the info on my build below:

Wow!!! Windows 7 is NOT XP. You do not need all that stuff hogging all your system resources to stay secure. In fact, running two security suites at once has never been a good idea as there is a big potential for conflicts (two dogs guarding the same bone, each wondering what the other dog is up to). If nothing else, it is a big waste of system resources. I recommend you uninstall Agnitum or Emsisoft and just use one. Or, uninstall both and install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and enable Windows Firewall for an even lighter resource footprint.

I would also disable Hitman Pro scans at boot and reserve Hitman Pro for "manual" supplemental scanning only.

Wow again!!! And again, W7 is not XP! One cleaner or the other - not all 4. I recommend CCleaner BECAUSE it is NOT very aggressive, it's recovery function works, and it is highly customizable.

Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working.

See if reinstalling the touchpad driver from the laptop's manufacturer's website helps.

The touchpad stops working randomly when the computer is woken back from sleep and it has to be rebooted to get it going agin. An externally connected mouse will work fine during that time. Is this due to a possibly faulty touchpad??

Answer:The touchpad on my V3-331 stops working randomly.

Hi Jithin1,

It is possible to be a defective touchpad. I would suggestion a few things you can try on your own before looking into service options.

Update or reinstall touchpad drivers
Refresh the PC to see if that takes care of any issues.
Reload the PC entirely if possible

If you continue having issues, contact your local Acer support team so that they can help setup services to take care of the touchpad issues you're having.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing (it won't respond to taps and sometimes stops scrolling, but the right and left click continue to work).  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only four days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.  Now Dell says that means the problem is on my end.
I haven't downloaded any new programs, everything is up-to-date, and when I check the touchpad settings, it shows everything as being enabled.  The touchpad stops working randomly, on different websites and in different programs.  I never had this problem on any previous Dell laptops.  I can't think what I might be doing to cause this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm having problems with my All-in-One Keyboard on Windows 8.1(64 bit): it doesn't accept input both from keyboard and touchpad at same time (can't walk in a FPS game while looking with mouse, for example).
Is this a product's limitation or should it work?

Thanks

Answer:my touchpad has stop working

I had the same problem happen to me just yesterday. I ran windows update and it showed optional updates to install. One of them was the "Intel Serial IO I2C ES Controller Driver", which I clicked to update. It installed and required a reboot. Upon reboot, I noticed that the mouse cursor was gone during login, and after that the touchpad was totally unresponsive. I tried to disable/enable the touchpad using FN+F7, but that didn't work. Fortunately I had a regular USB mouse I plugged in, which worked. Opening the Control Panel, Device Manager, it showed the System devices/I2C Controller with a yellow triangle next to it (showing that the driver failed to run). I had selected to rollback the driver to the prior version, and the touchpad started to work immediately. I suspect you may be having the same problem. To Fix: 1. Open Control Panel.2. Select and open Device Manager.3. Locate I2C Controller within System Devices.4. Double click on I2C Controller.5. Select Driver tab and click on Roll Back Driver button.6. Your touchpad should start working again.7. Close Device Manager.8. Close Control Panel. I'd like to see Acer's response to this issue and their suggestion since I suspect that in the following days there will be a fairly large percentage of Acer laptop users running into the same issue.

I have a new HP Envy 17t laptop, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz, 16GB RAM, Intel(R) HD Graphics 620, NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 4GB, 1TB HDD. Spent Christmas day updating Windows and installing some basic software (Firefox, Chrome, Java).  Since then, randomly the keyboard becomes completely unresponsive, with the Caps Lock blinking 5 times slow and 3 times fast, then repeats.  The Wireless Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 also losses internet connection.  Reboot seems to reset everything, but eventually it happens all over again.  Could happen immediately, after a couple of minutes, or couple of hours so haven't been able to figure out what triggers it. I've been through the system event logs and (although there are some errors) nothing terribly obvious or uncommon according to Google (see examples below).  I've tried updating the drivers and the BIOS.  Didn't work.  I then reverted every single driver from the HP Product page for the laptop back to the original state.  Didn't work.  Went through the HP Recovery Manager to reset the OS.  Working long enough to type this message, but have little confidence at this point the error won't reappear.  My hope was driver issue since the first day or two it seemed to be fine so thought it was a Windows or other driver update that set it off, but also have little confidence based on all the updates/reversions I attempted. Other than another HP forum pos... I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

Welcome!

Rest assured, if anyone posts in this thread, it will be to help you.

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before the troubles.

Then try installing Kaspersky again. If the problem happens again, do another system restore, and install Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

I can't tell if it's because I did something with "tapping" (I thought I'd turned all that junk off) or accidentally hit the middle top button (what is that for anyway?) but it just stops working, I've learned to close the lid and open it again and the left-click is live again (the right-click doesn't have this problem). Think I have the latest drivers, I've messed around with several different downloads to try to get this thing to work better, it's a total POS I would return the whole thing because of it but it's past 21 days and I'm not sure what machine I would get to replace it.

Last year I bought a brand new laptop which was a wonderful experience, HD, touch screen, fast as lightning and all that. Until just before Christmas when the wifi decided to stop working...
One day the wifi adapter simply disappeared from my devices, I was told simply that I couldn't connect to the internet because I wasn't plugged in (no mention of wireless anything). It's not a Windows 8.1 update, this happened ages after I'd done that, and I downloaded new drivers and ran the repair program for it... Nothing, until I did the exact same thing a week or so after and it started working again TADA! "That's great!" I though, but it wasn't, a week or so later I had the same problem again, this time the repair program didn't work at all, until a few days later when it did work! "Woohoo!" Says I, back in the running! Until... you get the point here, it's a recurring issue. I've just fixed it for the 5th or 6th time, this time I bought a USB adapter to connect to wifi, this worked. I unplugged it and now my built in adapter is working again, as if it actually has a personality and is saying "Hey, I don't want you to have wifi but if you're going to have it then you're going to use me, OK?!"
I'm a certain that at some point in the near future it will stop working again, and I'm almost as certain that when I plug my new USB adapter in it will start working again... Does anybody have any clue as to what might be going on here? I want to send it away for... Read more

Hello,
I have a very irritating problem with my computer speakers.
I will explain what happens;
I come home from work, and they will not be working! I switch the dial on, the light glows green and I can hear the speakers are all connected and working fine if i turn the volume up high (can hear slight static).
Then all of a sudden, when using my headphones instead (speakers still powered on) they pop around 5-6 times (probably the number of speakers there are) then they work again.
They do this randomly as I haven't been doing anything significant over the times it has happened.
I have checked all connections, on the sub box, and in the back of my pc. All is well there.
My setup is;
Creative 5.1 surround sound system
asus motherboard

I hope someone can help!
Thanks very much in advance!

Hello TF! Long time no post. I like the new layout.

Lately I have been having trouble with my usb headset randomly stop working. (Mic dosn't work and no sound) Normally it will work fine.
This is the headset I have.
Creative 70GH014000002 3.5mm / USB2.0 Connector Circumaural Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma Headset - Newegg.com

I'm using the usb adapter. The 3.5mm jack will work just fine at all times, I'm just tired of unplugging the speakers and plugging the headset back in and vice versa.

When the sound goes out while playing a game I used to be able to Alt+Tab out, open sound options, disable the headset, re enable it get back to the game and the sound would work fine. Now, when this happens I'm not able to get sound back or get the mic to work in game. Though it WILL work with the computer in general, just not the present game. Almost as if the sound cuts out for a split second and the computer switched to another sound output. Of course restarting the game makes the sound work again.
I do have current drivers installed form the creative site. I'm at wits end here. lol
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Speakers stop working (randomly) Then they pop...

Maybe try connecting each individual speaker, one at a time, to an external music output, and have a good listen to each one. This will tell you if the speakers ar ok.If you hear any distortion or no sound at all, then, that speaker must be faulty. That's what I would do for starters.

For your information, please review this article

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.
Method 2:
Fix common driver problems

When hardware that's installed in, or attached to, a computer doesn't work properly, it's often because of a driver problem. Hardware and devices require drivers to work properly
with a computer. Follow the troubleshooting steps from this link and check if it helps:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/tips-fixing-common-driver-problems#tips-fixing-common-driver-problems=windows-7
Method 3: Reset the USB controllers.

Disconnect all USB devices.
Click
Start, type devmgmt.msc in the Search box and then press
Enter.
Double-click
Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device Manager.
Right-click on the
Generic USB Hub, click Uninstall, and then click
OK.
Repeat step 3 to uninstall all items under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Reboot your computer, and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
What?s more, you can download and install the chipset drivers from the computer manufacturer?s website.

In addition, it would be helpful for future troubleshooting if you could help to collect the following information:

I have recently bought (a month old) a dell inspiron 1545 laptop with Vista home premium. I just use the 'run' function in taskmanager to start explorer again and then everything goes back to how it was. Alps pointing device also stops and the scroll function doesn't work thereafter until the computer is restarted. I have just changed the theme to classic to save battery life. So this computer is second hand? Do you know if it has the Service Pack 1 Update yet? Also did you get the windows install disk with it? If not do you have a vista disk around? I would start with the system file checker to see if any system files are corrupt. With a vista disk inserted open a run dialog box type "sfc /scannow" (no quotes) and wait for the check to complete. Also you said that this happens when you open control panel. Try opening individual .cpl's to see which one is causing the problem, navigate to system32, search for *.cpl and open each one individually, and see which one causes a crash. Also you can check the firfox crash reports by typing about:crashes in the address bar of FF to see if you can gather an useful info , to me though it seems like a coincidence that you just happen to be using FF at the time since it also occurs when opening the CP.

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.
This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.
I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.
Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Hi, Im having a small issue with my L420... every now and then the mousepad wont work. The touchpad may give out, and the red trackpoint remain functional, or vice-versa, or both may go out. I find that changing the voume, or typing sometimes solves this issue. I do have an external mouse that i plug in when this happens, but i do not want this issue to get any worse.  This may be unrelated, and may need a new post, but sometimes when this happens, my keyboard gets REALLY messed up... Hi,
my wifi stops working at random times on my win 8.1, maybe once a week. The same thing happens with headphone jack, usually not at the same time. It takes about 5 reboots to get them to work after that, which gets really annoying.
When that happens, I can't see any wifi network around me, and the headphones work on any other device.

I doubt this is about drivers, since it's two different drivers we're talking about.

My wireless card in my laptop (ASUS u46s) suddenly stop working randomly,
It randomly run smoothly or stop working completely. Yesterday I was running fine all day without any problem. Today it stopped to work after 5 minutes.

I tried to restore my computer, uninstall wireless driver in the devices manager but it just refuse to work.
And sometime my laptop can not event detect the wireless card (I scanned for hardware changes after remove the wireless card driver in devices manager but nothing show up until I restart the machine)

It's ,however, functioning without any issues when I boot in Ubuntu (so far at least ).

This not the first time this laptop has such issues. Last year the wireless card malfunctioned (in both windows 7 and Ubuntu) so I had to buy a new mini pci wireless card (intel N6300 AGN) and it had been working really well until 3 days ago.

I am unsure if this is another hardware problem or just a case of bad driver.

This is before I uninstall the driver

the wireless card not show up after that although I had scanned for hardware change.

Answer:wireless card stop working randomly

Hello and welcome bigday mate sounds like you have another bad card my friend. It might be just a matter of taking it out and putting it straight back in - just a dodgy connection perhaps?

There seems to be quite a list of wifi adaptors there when the Asus site lists only the Intel one in the specs so to check just what there is in the machine you can try this

Using HW Info general components

Download HW Info andpick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download -(copy and paste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the runninginformation in the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand windowclick on the + for the individual device groupings and they will open out tothe various components.

Go on opening out furtheruntil you get to the device itself. click on it and it will highlight. In theright hand window there will be a very detailed description of that device asin brand, speeds model number etc etc These are very detailed and are just whatis needed for searching for drivers etc.

See my pic for anexample - in this I have opened out one my components and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail.
The pic is of what is in my network adaptors yours might look different.

The model of my laptop is Toshiba Satellite L645.
I have encountered overheat issues recently and I thought it was the dust that clogged around the fan. I did the clean up and up everything back. I manage to boot up the computer and reach the window dekstop but the fan spin up for one or half seconds then stop.. Somehow, after a while, the fan worked and spin for quite sometimes.. Then again, the fan spin up for one or half seconds then stop and eventually my laptop overheat again.

IS the problem arises from the fan itself, or the thermal sensor problem? Im not sure.. pls help me =(

I would replace the fan first, it is cheaper than a motherboard and laptop fans are known to fail. You can get the fan on EBay cheaper...

Latest Java updates (64bits and 32bits) work for a while then stop with no warning. Be it HTML chat rooms -not loading- or embedded videos or whatever else. That is on ALL browsers not just IE. Opera, Chrome, Firefox....they all stop working.
(on a strange note, trying to play an embedded video in Opera will result in Opera downloading it rather than playing it)

I shut down all anti viruses, turned off the windows firewall. Uninstalled and reinstalled javas. Even went as far as a full system refresh after which Java again worked for a while then stopped again.

What else can I do? I am at my wit's end.

Answer:Java will randomly stop working in all browsers

Hey mate,

Use an uninstaller program, such as Revo Uninstaller free (though Revo Free does not offer 64bit uninstalls, so the issue may persist). Java has an uninstaller, but it is usually for older java programs. Give it a try after using a program like Revo, nonetheless: Why should I uninstall older versions of Java from my system? - Next, double check that there are no java entries remaining in the Windows Control Panel Uninstall Programs section. If there are, remove them.

Install all important updates through Windows Update. Restart. Attempt to install the newest java version here: http://java.com/en/download/win8.jsp

Verify that it has been installed correctly here: Verify Java Version

Best of luck, let me know how it turns out.

Hi
About a week ago I noticed that Internet Explorer randomly stops working, i.e. when you try to navigate to any site it does nothing.
I have the same symptoms with Google Chrome. Closing and re-opening the browser does not fix it. No other symptoms.
However, killing one of the iexplore.exe processes will immediately fix the problem (although it has to be the right iexplore.exe - there are usually 3-5 running). I ran Malwaybytes and it came up clean. CPU is normal. Internet access is definitely up. No other symptoms.
Even rebooting does not always fix it and I still have to kill the iexplore.exe.
Any idea what might be causing this and/or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
Doug

Had a user today with an X300 say that his touchpad and touchpoint just 'stopped' working; plugging in a USB mouse allowed him to continue using the laptop, but both onboard devices were dead. We tried the FN + F8 toggle, which normally disables the touchpad; this time it said "UltraNav Driver Not Installed." I reinstalled the UltraNav Driver and Utility, as well as the Hotkeys application. Multiple reboots later, the touchpad and touchpoint were still disabled. The fix, it seems, is to go into the BIOS (F2 at boot I believe?) under Config --> Mouse --> and disable EITHER the Touchpad OR the Touchpoint. When both devices are active, neither will work. When one device is disabled, the other will work. I'm waiting on word from Lenovo about a better fix, but for now this will let you use the laptop without a USB mouse.

I have read numerous discussions about the X61 pen and how it randomly stops working. I have the same problem with my new X200 Tablet running Visa x64. I have read about two possible solutions. The first was to restart the Wacom Dual Touch drivers. The second was to install drivers directly from Wacom.  The first solution did not work for me, only a full reboot gets the stylus working again. I would like to try the second solution, but I need to know the X200 specific drivers to download from Wacom. Any more solutions from Lenovo or the community is greatly appreciated. Was this problem fully resolved for the X61 tablet or did it carry over to the X200 line? Thanks for your help.

Answer:X200 Tablet Pen / Stylus Stop Working Randomly

The stylus and touch feature of my x200 tablet periodically stops working.  My operating system is Fedora 10.  The only solution I have found is to reboot.  Simply restarting X windows does not do the trick.  Is there some reset command I could run or some other fix?  Is anyone else having similar problems?

Has anyone else experienced an issue where the trackpad and point of their T431s stop working? My trackpad and trackpoint cut out simultaneously and at random times. Sometimes they will stop working for a few seconds, other times I cannot get the trackpoint to work until I close and reopen the laptop. I have taken this to my university IT people and I have installed all the latest drivers but the issue still persists. This issue has been plaguing me for months, so please any advice is helpful.

I never had this problem when I was using Windows 8.1. This problem mostly occurs when I'm playing a game (Dota 2, Battlefield 4, Fallout 3, etc) and sometimes when I was just browsing the web, watching youtube videos. The sound will just disappear, although the program just works normally (kinda like the speaker got unplugged). When this happens, I can't left click the audio icon (but right clicking it works) and the start and search menu don't work too. When I tried to test the sound it will show an error, can't play or something like that.

I've googled and tried many solutions, and many are basically reinstalling driver. The problem goes away after restarting my laptop, but the problem will just occur again sometime. This is extremely annoying as I play online a lot.

I'm using ASUS PU451LD and it uses Conexant SmartAudio driver. My OS is Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

I am using the HP Advanced Wireless Docking Station (F7M97AA) with the HP Elite X2 1011.  I have HP external speakers connected to the docking station.  Randomly there is no sound.  I can see the indicator bar moving so i know it's working, but there is no sound coming from the speakers.  To solve the problem, i have to reboot the docking station, then the speakers work for a few days and then randomly no sound.  All drivers are up to date.  I've tested with other speakers and the same thing happens.  Any suggestions?

In Destiny 2, most of my keyboard keys, such as WSAD, randomly stop working when I land in game.

However, when I start mashing them, it sometimes starts moving me in one direction and I can't stop, even when I disconnect my keyboard from the USB port. I found that I only have control when I hold the ALT or CTRL keys.

This is the ONLY game that I have this issue.

1) My USB controller works fine and I can play that way.
2) I've tabbed out to check my keyboard and it also works fine. (though sometimes Cortana search is wonky)
3) Restarting the game does not fix it. Restarting my PC does.
4) I am not using an anti-key logger
5) I've tried other keyboards.

Any ideas?

I can't really think why this would happen. When one of these stops working, it'll only be with one specific use. So, the Shift keys I only ever notice stop working when trying to Shift+Delete a file or folder, but both Shift keys will work perfectly fine when I'm typing (e.g. if, after noticing it not working, I simply switch to Notepad and type something, they work fine for capitalisation). This also isn't something that happens all the time, I usually can Shift+Delete files, it'll just sort of arbitrarily not work sometimes. Likewise, Ctrl+S wasn't working to save yesterday when I had Visual Studio open, but I could still Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V within that same program perfectly fine. I saved manually and got on with things and it seemed to start working again later, but I don't think I did anything specific to fix it.
Also, with Ctrl (harder to test Shift), it only seems to apply to one program at a time, but it's never the same program. So, for example, if it happens on Word, I can open a Notepad and Ctrl+S to save and that works, but it still won't work in Word. Again, not always the same program. I probably notice it most with Word, but I use a lot of Word documents for work, whereas Visual Studio and other software I might use that requires a lot of saving is more of a hobby.
Since the keys otherwise work, I doubt it's my actual keyboard (but in case anyone thinks it is, it's a Logitech G510s and the driver is up-to-date). I have another keyboard I could test with, but thi... Read more
