outlook 2007 doesn't display html in reading pane

Question: outlook 2007 doesn't display html in reading pane

Every since I have been using Outlook 2007 I have always been able to view the html e-mails. last week the suddenly disappeared. I did my research and have tried every suggestion I seen. new profile, trust center, etc. One ting I do know that if i start outlook in safe mode everything displays as it use to. So there has to be something blocking the html pictures. when I click on the pictures it takes me out to the senders web site and shows it to me so the links are there. this is starting to drive me crazy, any help would be appreciated

Preferred Solution: outlook 2007 doesn't display html in reading pane

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: outlook 2007 doesn't display html in reading pane

If it works in Safe Mode, it means one of your Outlook Add-ins is blocking HTML.

I'm having a weird problem. All of a sudden, the reading pane in outlook went away. I've tried setting it to both settings (Right, Bottom, and even Off). Tried going through Programs and repairing office ultimate. Also uninstalled outlook from there and re-installed, but still won't show.

Any ideas on how i can get it back! All I see is the list of emails, and then I have to double click to open in seperate window and read/respond/etc.

Do you by any chance have Dell MediaDirect on your system? If so, try uninstalling it, reboot and check Outlook again. I had the same problem until I did this and it worked.

Been searching for this one for a bit. Found loads on Blank Reading Pane however this is slightly different.

Have a home user who some messages are not displaying in the reading pane. These are mainly from Facebook and some various ones from their work colleagues.

When choosing reply message is also blank however selecting Office Button > Editor Options > Display > Hidden Text (checked) the message content appears.

Why then is the message content not visible in the main preview pane? These are just the simple message notifications such as from facebook.

Looked at fonts / mail format (tried all variences) to no avail.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Everyone

I have a question regarding MS Word.

Basically, every time I open a word document, I want it to open in reading layout. I know I can select this option through the menu in MS Word. However, I need this to be a permanent setting and want to make this change through the registry editor.

Is anyone familiar with a registry key that I need to amend (or create) to enforce this setting?

Thank you for your help.

Outlook 2007 doesn't display pictures. It was working fine three days ago Sep 5, 2010. I had a malware problem (fake Security Suite) and removed it using HijackThis and Malwarebytes. Afterward, Outlook doesn't display some pictures in emails, just a red X often without a link. The Outlook Trust Center display pictures option is unchecked. I removed all security from my computer (firewall, AVG) and the problem still occurs. IE security settings are at lowest. I am using Vista and Firefox. My Stocks Gadget also stopped working - service not available. Can anyone help? Kip

Hi Guys,

I have been doing some research and it seems that the reading pane in outlook isnt that safe. In most of the sites i visited it said it was better to turn this off so you dont open your self up to viruses. Can somone confirm this is true before i send an e-mail round my organisation telling them to turn it off.

The reason i started to look into this was when one of our users started to recieve loads and loads of spam mail i have sorted the problem wit that now but because she had her reading pane on it seemed to infect her computer but if she had to double click on the e-mail to open it this would not have happend. Can anyone please confirm if this is the case also.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How Safe Is The Reading Pane In Outlook?

Though turning it off is recommended, good email AV should be sufficient.

And, no, double-clicking does not protect anyone. Opening the mail by any means has the same effect.

A good AV with a "resident shield" is sufficient in most cases, but the added email scanning feature of AVG, for example, that scans incoming mail, adds even more security.

The point really is that mails from unknown persons or with suspicious titles should not be opened at all.

I'm using a relatively new Dell Studio laptop. I have Office Professional 2007 with all current updates. I have POP set up for my Gmail account.

Outlook appears to download messages, it just doesn't display that there are new messages until I click on a different folder and then click Inbox again.

What would cause this?

Every time I create a new folder in Outlook 2003 the Reading Pane "Hide header information" option is enabled by default. I know I can select View / Arrange By / Custom / Other Settings and then uncheck the "Hide header" box, but this is tedious if I'm setting up several new folders.

According to Microsoft no global change can be made to this value in the Reading Pane. Does anyone know of a tweak or utility which can set the default to show the header in the Reading Pane view?

Is there a way to globally diable Outlook 2003's reading pane?

Answer:Disabling Outlook 2003's Reading Pane

Well, it USED to be that you could do a command line switch:

outlook.exe /nopreview

But I don't know if that still works in 2003.
And I don't know what you mean by globally--all views on one PC? all PCs?

I have the reading pane activated in Outlook 2003. I've noticed that when any email is shown in the reading pane, the header information is followed by approximately 10 blank lines before the message text is shown. This happens regardless of the location of the reading pane (below or to the right). If I open the email, everything looks fine. The blank lines are annoying because I usually have to go to the reading pane and scroll down to see the entire message. I should also add that the blank lines are fixed, so when I scroll through the message the white space stays there and doesn't scroll. Any solutions? I'm running XP SP2.

I'm using Outlook 2003 (on Exchange) on an XP Pro machine. I have it configured to give me 2 email accounts. I have the reading pane activated on both accounts.

I used to be able to print (clicking the print icon or using the menu) from the reading pane without actually opening the email for each of the two accounts. Now, I can only do it from one of the accounts. The error message I get when I try to print from the second account is: "Message headers cannot be printed. Download the complete message and then print."

The fact that I used to be able to print from both, but now only from one leads me to believe I inadvertently changed a setting. Someone suggested it may be a security setting, but I have no idea.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I find the 100% setting for reading emails in Outlook 2010 too small and would like to set 150 or 200% as a default but I can't find any facility for this and I have to adjust the setting manually every time. Can anybody advise me please?

Answer:Outlook 2010 reading pane zoom default

Hello again urbanspaceman1

You have two options for doing this:

Option 1:
Create a new email type something and go to the "zoom" feature on the top right.
Select the percentage% you want the fonts to be displayed at.

Note: The fonts may not appear large when you are viewing them on the reading pane or double click open the email. For that view you will have to always manually zoom it yourself on the right corner in the bottom but you will be able to see the fonts large when you hit reply after doing the 2 points mentioned above.

Option 2:

Change your DPI settings following this tutorial:

I will search for similar stuff.
Till then, HTH

I'm using an Acer Windows 7 machine with MS Outlook 2010.

When I left-click and hold on the scroll bar of the reading pane
when viewing a long email, and move the mouse/scroll bar
up/down, the email doesn't scroll up/down with me as I move

How can I get Outlook 2010 to smoothly scroll, like it does every-

This has been happening for a while.. I dont remember when it started, but it seems it began when the reading pane thing below started..

Problem 2:

The reading pane will -not- stay on the bottom of the sceen when Outlook starts up.. I change it time and again from side pane to bottom pane and it just doesnt stay bottom when Outlook is restarted..

Any ideas? No viruses, or malware/spyware on the machine.. MSE updates/runs full scan every night.

I can't seem to disable the "Reading Pane" in Outlook 2003. Under "View" > " Reading Pane " I get no response when clicking on "Reading Pane."

I am under the impression that it is a good idea to keep the Reading Pane "off" so as not to "open" automatically emails which may contain viruses.

I am used to the Windows Live Mail's way of displaying the left pane. It would show a folder for each account, and under each folder would be Inbox, Junk, Sent Mail, etc. I just setup Outlook 2007 on my laptop with all my accounts and I cannot figure out how to get it to show each account separately. I know I figured out how to do this a couple weeks ago on another co-workers machine so that she could look through her junk mailbox and stuff -- and I remember it was one of those subtle tricky things too easy to forget.

EDIT: I tried everything I could come across through Google. I even tried Thunderbird and was surprised to see that they have very much degraded as has Outlook 2007. Windows Live Mail does it right. Another problem I came across with Outlook 2007 is that if you delete an e-mail account and then try to recreate it, you cannot use the same account name unless you are smart enough to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Mail->Profiles->Delete existing profile (completely resets e-mail account database for Outlook) ... what an [sarcasm]obvious[/sarcasm] fix. I can't believe that some of the most common and well-known mail clients have degraded to scat-value in usability.

I just put in a new hard drive and installed the latest version of Office 2007. I kept the data and archive files from Outlook 2003 so I could import them into Outlook 2007 and get back to business. However, that did not happen. It was able to read and bring up most of the data, but I am missing some folders which are critical.

The critical folders are folders that were created manually. They were used to store email messages that came in that were important. They were simply dragged from the Inbox and put into that folder. There were also folders within that folder. I'm not sure if these folders and subfolders were in the Inbox or not. They may not have been.

The way I imported it was by going to TOOLS>ACCOUNT SETTINGS>DATA FILES tab>and pointed to the old PST file.

I also pointed to the archive.pst file as well, but later went to FILE>ARCHIVE and pointed to the old archive.pst file in there. Bot ways did not reveal the folders that are needed.

Is Outlook 2007 not able to read all data from Outlook 2003 pst files, or is there a fix for this?

Please advise.

Answer:Move from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 not successful; not reading certain folders

I purchased a new Notebook with Office 2007 installed and copied over my Outlook 2000 pst file. I also had manually created folders for filing important emails. Mine were sub folders within the Inbox folder. Everything copied over, but I could not see the manual folders at first until I double clicked the Inbox folder in the side panel and then they spilled out. I would look for them in that panel and double click anything there starting with Inbox, Sent etc. Also try doing a search for any subject or address of an email you may have saved.

When copying over the pst file I think everything is copied. Appears you did not just copy contacts for example, but the complete pst file. I think the folders are there as Sub Folders, just hidden within one of the main folders such as Inbox.

Hello, in Outlook 2013 there is a pane/sidebar on the left of the main UI where all of my configured email accounts are listed. Ok Im totally baffled as to what to do. The internet help desk doesnt know what to do, and I cannot find anything out on the problem I am having in microsofts knowledge base. Ok here is what is going on and all that I have tried. A couple of days ago I started having problems with OE in which I was getting a message that read ..Couldnt open address book, OE is not configured correctly please reload outlook express. So on the advice of others I dumped my outlook express and internet explorer. I then under advice from friends of mine who work at an internet help desk, I downloaded and installed the IE5.5 service pak. I installed it and still had the same problems with outlook express. So one of the things that my friends told me to do was to go in and delete my address book and then outlook express will make a new one. I did this and it took care of the error message that I was getting. I can send messages and recieve them but they wont display in the preview pane. Every email now comes in as an attachment and the only way to see them is to click on the attachment then either open it as an html file with IE or test only with word pad. If anyone can help with this I would greatly appreciate it.

With Microsoft withdrawing support for Windows Live Mail, I have switched to eM Client on my 64-bit Windows 10 system. Whilst it seems to be an excellent email application, attachements (such as receipts for purchases) sent as HTML web page documents just display as 'jibberish' text within the body of the message rather than as a web page that you can view / save.
There is no problem with displaying HTML images sent as part of the email - just the attachments. Hopefully someone will know how to fix this (hopefully) simple problem!

2. Modify the Key "OutlookSecureTempFolder", by replacing "Temporary Internet Files" with "Temp".
For example:

I've clicked all the HTML settings I'm aware of but whenever I reply to a message sometimes I can use my font and it's in HTML format but other times its completely grayed out and I can only use the plain text. I can go to Options and switch to HTML then change the font but I don't want to go through that.

Answer:Creating an HTML Template on Outlook 2003/2007

Hi SrillAlive,

Outlook was never designed to be anything other than an end user WYSIWYG editor. (What You See Is What You Get) While you can right click on HTML emails you recieve, and View the Source html, there is no "out of the box" way to compose an html email.. Outlook does it automatically for you. There are add ons availabe... but they tend to be overpriced for what you want to accomplish.

It looks like you host through ... I'm not familiar with what type of email solution they offer you or if you just resolve your mx records to point to your own server. Regardless IF you use thier email application they probably have a web interface and a way to compose email from it.

I would assume your best bet would be to start there and see if you can copy and paste your code to the web interface.
There will more than likely (hopefully to make it easy for you) a way to select the formatting of your message in thier email solution...e.g. switch from rich text to html < >

....OK now I looked up your MX record and it looks like you would log into
Start there amd see what you can accomplish.

Another option is to use a diffent application to compose and send your email or build a simple vb app and call on outlook ado's

I'm trying to create a HTML email.

In Outlook 2003 I could create a webpage in Dreamweaver, save it as HTML, open it in IE, then 'send page by email' - easy enough. Now, loads of the HTML doesn't work any more because Microsoft have disabled loads of HTML functionality for Outlook 2007.

I can get around most of it, but what I can't do is to create anchor points within documents - it keeps trying to link to the original file on my C: drive. Apparently Microsoft are using Word's HTML rendering, so I've also tried to do it through that and use their 'bookmarks' thing, but still no joy.

Hi guys

I have a really annoying issue with Outlook 2007. I am having trouble with HTML e-mails. If I send fresh HTML e-mails i have no issues. If i try to reply to or forward HTML emails, Outlook will not send. I get a message saying "The connection to the server was interupted". If i change the mail to "Plain text" they send without a problem. I have tried the following without any sucess.Turned off McAfee - completely
Uninstalled and re-installed Outlook 2007
Run "scanpst" on the data file
Turned off and on Smartscreen filtering in IE
Tested connection to SMTP server directly with ISP
Run outlook 2007 in XP SP3 compatable
The outgoing mails are going to different addresses so it is not a problem with one outgoing address.

I have tried all forums and google but still cannot find a solution.

Answer:outlook 2007 -Problem replying/forwarding HTML emails

I am having a similar problem. Message is the same. Outlook won't let me send email at all.

My office recently upgraded to Office 2007. By default, Outlook is configured to convert all incoming messages to plain text. This is a setting that we do not have the rights to change. However, when we used to have Outlook 2003 all the emails that were originally in HTML format could be converted back to HTML once we opened up the email and verified it was a trusted email. There was simply a "convert this to HTML" option that would show up somewhere in the header. This is no longer the case in Outlook 2007.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to convert the text to HTML on INCOMING emails. Outgoing isn't a problem. I've even tried editing the incoming email or forwarding it and then converting to html but it doesn't display properly. Any images that were in the email can only be viewed one at a time by clicking directly on the picture link, but not with the rest of the email.

Any ideas?

I have been using Win7 64bit for around 2 weeks and previously was on Vista 32bit. Everything is pretty smooth except for Office 2007 Outlook.

As far as it is, I have attempted to forward html emails but failed. Outlook will freeze and the round hourglass cursor will keep turning. Anymore clicking will cause Outlook to show "Not responding" and either it will pop up "Restart Program." or "Close Program".

I have tried leaving it for a few to see if the email goes out. And no, it didn't work too. The email that I tried to send does not appear in the Draft, Outbox or anywhere, even after Outlook restarts. The freeze appears to happen when i click Send button on any html emails that i try to forward. Be it Amazon invoice, edms from hotels or promotional emails from Macy's.

There will be no problem if i'm sending a normal text email and in fact, it sends out really fast too.

I have also repair Outlook, Scanpst on my pst, did a uninstall and reinstall, run in compatibility mode for Winxp SP3, Winvista. None seems to work. I didn't get the problem when i was on Vista.

I googled quite a bit but unfortunately no solutions i can find. Perhaps it's something that i've overlooked and maybe it's something with Win7 on Outlook 2007.

Can someone help?

Answer:Outlook 2007 hangs on sending html emails in Windows 7

If you go to tools, options, mail format tab - what is your default sending format? I attached a screenshot of my settings which seem to work ok.

The messages that you are forwarding, is the content blocked? That could cause a hang since Outlook would have to download the images etc in order to compose the forwarded html message.

As a test haev you tried composing and HTML message and sending it to yourself, then try forwarding it?

Its an annoying problem I know. But we'll get to the bottom of it.

Basically, one some (not all) e-mails that have been coming through in outlook 2007 are showing up as header/text/html instead of the actual render of the e-mail. There is no subject line in outlook, no to, no from, just plain text of the header, mime data, and email content (html or text). This just started happening a few days ago. Not sure what the change is. A couple of things to note: we have several hundred filters setup in outlook. Also, we have about 3.5gb of combined PST files (all under 2g). This is also an upgraded version from 2003. Here's an example of what the e-mail looks like:

I've seen this issue on other postings but have not seen the answer yet.

I have Vista, Outlook 2007 and Office 2003.

1. I have been trying to send an email merge (works fine on my other XP machine with office 2003) in HTML. I can send a merge in text, but the HTML option yields nothing. I purchased outlook 2007 because Msft Mail was not working either. I am about to throw out outlook 2007 and try to downgrade to outlook 2003 to see if this option works as it does on my XP machine. Any ideas before I totaly frustrate my wife by reloading her software again?

2. When the "text' email merge is initiatied, I get a message for each mail that asks me to accept that another program is trying to send an email. This seems to happen for each email which could really be a problem for several hundred emails. I have tried turning off the firewall but the box still appears. This whole Vista thing is making me crazy. I have to reconfigure my outlook 2003 and transfer the list of names and the word doc to my xp laptop just so I can send the mail merge. What is the setting to turn this off?

I am wondering why I paid for Vista, and the Oulook 2007 sw. Sorry, just frustrated. This should not be so difficult.

I used Zinstall to move all my files/programs from my old computer to my new one in the last few days. I also upgraded the new one from 8.1 to Win10 after the migration. Knowing Win10 doesn't work with MSOffice2007, I subscribed to MSOffice365 in the new computer. Now, Outlook 2013 doesn't show the same folders I had in Outlook 2007, and I need to know where all my saved files went and how to import them to this system. (They are still sitting in my old computer, if I have to copy them to a zip drive & move them again.)

RESOLVED: See second post, here.

Original Post:
I have looked around a little, but haven't seen anything specifically about this particular problem.

Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Office 2010
All latest MSUpdates, etc
This problem just started happening to me this afternoon.

Normally, when I open an e-mail that has a URL in it, Outlook displays that URL to me as a hyperlink. However, now they are just displaying as text, and to use them, I have to copy and paste into browser.

This is not an issue with hyperlinks not functioning properly. No error messages, nothing. The URLs simply aren't hyperlinks.
To be clear, the e-mails in question definitely have URLs that Outlook on another computer (at home) is still indeed displaying as hyperlinks....same e-mail....hyperlinks at home, but no longer here on my work computer.

I have not tried it yet on a different work computer (next step), but I did try it with a different 'profile' in Outlook, and got the same behavior (or lack of behavior).
It's not happening to all e-mails in all e-mail accounts. I have a bunch of e-mail accounts that I access through Outlook, and this problem is only happening to certain ones.

Example: I have at least 3 e-mail accounts on a single domain. This problem is happening to the e-mails in the inbox (and/or any other folder within that account) of two of these accounts, but not the other one.
Also, I notice that the e-mail messages this is happening to are all 'plain text'. Howev... Read more

Answer:Outlook 2010 - URLs no longer display as hyperlinks when reading mail

I figured it out.....and was something I did.

Editor Options
AutoCorrect Options
AutoFormat tab
Internet and network paths with hyperlinks
For some reason, I was going through and turning off all kinds of autocorrect stuff (cause I hate that stuff), and didn't realize that this particular setting governed how e-mail gets displayed.

I thought since it was in the section called 'Editor Options' within the section called 'Compose messages', it was only relevant to what happens while composing new e-mails.

At any rate, I got it taken care of. :-)

I have a POP3 account. It always worked fine. Since 3 days ago when I'm sending an email it hangs for a long time until it gives an error "not able to connect to SMTP" server.

I check and re-check the account configuration and is the same as I always have.

If I close Outlook I can't start it again. The Task Manager still shows Outlook in the process tab.

If I stop the process and I start Outlook again it sends and receives pending the email. But afterwards it comes back to same problem.

Bottom line, at this point I have to close Outlook, stop the process in the Task Manger and start Outlook again in order to sent an email!!

What else can I do?

Answer:OUTLOOK 2007 now it sends now it doesn't.

Go to your Help menu and choose Office Diagnostics.

Yesterday afternoon my mail app suddenly decided that I no longer wanted the reading pane off to the right side unless I am in full screen mode. If I open the window wider (but not full screen) it will either let me have the preview screen or the bar off to the left with the list of accounts, but not both. If I open the mail app in full screen it has both the preview pane and the ribbon on the left.
I'm sure I must have clicked something to make it do this but have no idea what. I've clicked and unclicked "show preview text" a few times and completely restarted once to no avail. What have I done and how do I fix it? I'm using a desktop PC.

I recently ran across the problem of Outlook 2007 not retaining my password on an Exchange account. I found this fix at another website.

"If you are encountering an infuriating problem where Outlook constantly asks you for your password even though you check the “Remember my password” box every single time, then you are in luck because reader Malcolm wrote in with this tip on how to fix the problem.

This fix should theoretically help with Windows Mail as well, but I haven’t been able to verify that yet.

Before you do anything else, close Outlook. You should also note that we’ll be modifying system generated files here, so proceed with caution or not at all.
Open up windows explorer window and then paste the following text into the address bar, which should bring you to a folder with a single folder inside with a really long name.

What you’ll need to do is just rename that folder to something else (I suggest appending -old onto the end of it so that you could easily rename it back if things go wrong)

Now re-open Outlook, and then type in your password hopefully for the last time, making sure to check the box to remember it. You should now see that the original folder was re-created again.

At this point Outlook should remember your passwords, but you can close Outlook and reopen it to make sure. If you encounter problems with this, you can remove the new folder and then rename the -old folder back to t... Read more

I've just installed win7-64 and Office 2007. When I open Outlook the window size is half the screen. I would like it bigger and drag the bottom of the window to the bottom of the screen. When I close Outlook and re-open, it reverts to the old window size and does not remember what I had set it to. How can I get it to remember the size it want?

Answer:Outlook 2007 doesn't remember window size

Hi, victord66!

Try maximizing, then closing it and re-opening. After re-opening it should come up as full screen (maximized). Then restore down and size it to the way you want it. Next time you open it, it should retain that window size.

If you want it to be maximized (full screen), always close it when it's maximized. If you want it to be a particular window size, always close it when it's at that window size and location.

This works for almost all application windows.

If that doesn't work, we'll have to look at the properties of the shortcut you use to start Outlook. We'll save that for later, however, as I doubt you changed any of those settings, right?

I am forced to be a tech guy against my will in my job as controller. Recently we purchased a new dell PC that came with Office 2007 Sm. Bus. Edition with Outlook 2007 with bus. contact manager. The original .pst file was on a network and was from Outlook 2003. When 2007 gets a new email it shows up on the left as a number (as in how many new emails are in your inbox but does not show the emails in the pane on the right. It will show them if you go into another folder and then back into the inbox. I have been researching this for awhile but no luck. From various sources I have tried the following:

1-the inbox has no rules or filters applied
2-Windows firewall has outlook.exe as an exception and antivirus is norton 10.1 on our server.
3- Ran Office diagnostics (no problems found).
4- renamed the following files and restarted outlook (extend.dat/frmcache.dat/outcmd.dat)

I have Office 2007 installed on several machines, and I have this problem on only one of those machines. A laptop with Windows 7 and 1366x768 resolution.

Certain messages appear cut off in the preview pane and in the message window of Outlook. Plain text and most HTML message display fine, but some HTML messages will cut about 1" off the right side. If you resize the window larger, the text will resize and still cut off about 1" from the right side.

For example - an eight letter word at the end of a line will display only the first 3 or 4 letters. The HTML text will size itself for 8" worth of display, but then only 7" will be displayed with the right most inch cut off.

How can I fix this?

Windows Explorer blocks all images in HTML pages when I view them in the preview pane, claiming it's for security reasons. Those files are stored locally on my hard drive. I'm viewing them while offline, and in fact, I created them myself, so there's no security risk whatsoever. I suspect that this has something to do with a component of Internet Explorer, even though I use a Mozilla-based browser now and disabled IE a long time ago. How can I stop this annoyance? Outlook 2007 has recently developed a problem. Emails display correctly in preview panel but when I open up the email the text displays as individual letters one by one underneath each other, resulting in an unreadable email that might be as long as 100 pages that would normally print as one page. Also, if I copy the email from the preview panel and then try to paste into Word, I get the same result; i sometimes get a variant in that I get single words displayed one under another. This only happens on private emails (so far!) and not every time. sometimes an email reads correctly but when I forward it the recipient has the same problem. I hope this clearly explains the problem; I have Windows 7.

Issue: Office 2010 help (F1 or ?) display help window but window appears blank. Also chm files no longer display content.
I know there is a wealth of information out there and on this site regarding similar issues but none appear relevant to Windows 7 64 bit OS or Office 2010. So before someone advises I read - I have followed all
recommendations relevant to 64 bit OS and IE. (Note IE version 10 in use.)  I have spent considerable time restoring and installing various Microsoft recommended fixes (including winhlp32.exe which turns out is not relevant to the problem and now I appear
to be stuck with it) nothing appears to work.
If a help window is opened on any application the help window appears as a blank space, with the exception of table of contents and search info, however, right click on the right hand pane and request view source, it transpires the help content is there
you just can't see it. The exact same situation occurs with chm files. Note everything was working fine until recently and I can not see any relevant MS updates which may have caused the problem. I have attempted a work-around by altering the registry in accordance
with above referenced article but it does not work. I have also compared the registry settings with another PC and can find no reason for this very annoying and time consuming issue. (Note I have also attempted to reset IE settings in the hope it was a security
issue - still no joy.... Read more

Hello All!

I just got this new computer - it's vista..and I installed outlook 2007. I set up my exchange great..but i had this other software where i can add an additional exchange server..but it doesn't work on there some way to add an additional exchange server to outlook 2007 on vista?

Answer:Adding additional exchange server on outlook 2007 doesn't work on vista

are you attempting to connect to two or more Exchange Servers OR just two or more
pop3 email servers.

You can't add the second ES unless it is also online at the time of the configuration.

It's probably something I've done without realising it...

Firstly, I have four unwanted inboxes in my Outlook - Microsoft at Work, Microsoft at Home, MSNBC News, and NHS Choices. I don't want any of them, or the emails that come into them. Can I get rid of them?

Secondly, all incoming emails initially appear in an 'Unread Items' inbox. If I can get rid of the four unwanted inboxes, can I get rid of the Unread Items inbox and have everything go straight onto my normal inbox?

Finally, my emails display with a preview of the text, but I prefer just a single line display. How do I put them back to how they were before?

I've not tried anything yet, because I don't want to make things worse. Please help....

Outlook 2007 has begun to behave strangely.

Plain text messages received do not display in the font selected in Tools>Options>Mail Format>Stationery & Fonts>Composing and reading plain text messages

These incoming messages are suddenly displaying in a smaller font, Time New Roman 10 (or some paragraphs Tahoma 10) even though the more readable default font Consolas 10.5 is still set there.

No changes to font and size in that dialogue have any effect at all on *received* plain text messages (but new *created* messages respond to changes made in the dialogue)

Created plain text messages correctly use Consolas 10.5 or any other setting when selected, the problem is only received plain text messages.

Anyone have a clue?

In the CONTACTS section of Outlook 2007 there are various default settings that I don't like. But I don't find options to change them.
The main one is that the address box LOOKS as ONE field, but is in fact a collection of invisible fields: Street, City, State, Zip, Country. What you type in that big box is sometimes unclear to Outlook, then it pops up an edit box with all the separate fields. Sometimes there WAS already a (default) Country/Region in the box and then the result of a printed address could be: John Johnson, 1st Street 1, LA, CA 98765, USA, The Netherlands.
I would prefer to see the 'split' address view by default. How?
And if it is not possible, how can I force Outlook to show the split box when I need it?
The same address box has two options, business and home. Business is shown by default, so often I type private addresses in the wrong box - with confusing results when grouping, printing etc.
Can BOTH the Home AND the Business address box be displayed at the same time?
If not possible, then can I instruct Outlook to display the Home box by default?
Similar problem with the Email box. I always have to use the dropdownlist to see/edit/use a 2nd or 3rd email. In this time where many people have several email addresses, at least 2 of them should be visible by default in the standard view.

I know that I can customize my Outlook Contact page completely to my own needs. I gave it a few attempts, but the result was a bewildering mess. Lots worse than th... Read more
