My downloads randomly stops downloading

Question: My downloads randomly stops downloading

Hello all, i just moved to a a new place, there are 5 people sharing this place (not sure what it's called in english).

Ever since i set my desktop up here i've been having an issue downloading .. anything. I can download torrents just fine, without issues. However - when there's a launcher or anything like it (Ex: Video game launchers/downloads) my downloads will stop randomly, by that i mean the download speed will completely drop after about 3-10 seconds, sometimes i get lucky and the download keeps going for a couple of minutes, making it completely random. This also happens in my internet browser(s). I am at the end of my wits when it comes to this.

I'm particularly good at networking thus i come here, i am good at following directions.

In detail, this is what happens: I press download, it starts downloading, after a couple of seconds the download will completely stop progressing and the timer keeps going up until it just tells me to wait for an eternity. This issue does NOT occur when i'm downloading torrents but does happen whenever i try downloading games or anything large from my browser. The downloads ALWAYS work in the beginning but after a while they'll just die (unless i'm torrenting).

I have no issues streaming streams or watching youtube or anything like that.

I live with 5 other people, as stated above. I'm not sure that has any impact on this issue.

I literally reinstalled my windows 10 minutes ago, which did not work. Which should eliminate the possibilty of viruses.

I do have access to the router, but from what I can tell there shouldn't be anything wrong with the setting there, though i'm not sure - i'm not particularily experienced when it comes to routers.

It's a netgear router. The router directly connections to another router which then connects via cable to my computer, which might be an issue?

I've tried port forwarding to the sites and servers that i'm trying to download from to no avail.

Seems that posting this is my last option. Thanks for the read and please help.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and answer any questions about my setup or whatever, thanks for any help.

Edit - My internet speed is 100/100 mbps. Thought this should be said as well. I don't believe that naming my ISP would be of much help as i do live in Norway which means that the most of you wouldn't have heard of it.

Preferred Solution: My downloads randomly stops downloading

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am at my wits end. It's 2am. And I'm freaking out.

Since this is my first post. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Adam. And I am freaking out.

I followed this guide:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/

So my firewall is enabled. I have multi anti-virus/malware softwaes running (malwarebytes, spybot S&D, MSE).
I've ran Rootkit scanners.
I've even done a full reformat-reinstall (taking care to fire up a linux live distro and dd-ing the entire drive with zeros so I can be sure there's no bootsector virus thing).
I've ran Kasperky's TDSSKiller. I've run ComboFix.

But I can not figure out why EXEs are being blocked when I attempt to download (Spotify.exe would get blocked, as would others).

Here's an example screenshot:

And here's another example of EXEs blowing up on attempted downloads:

A few more things you should know:
Since I am running on a limited space SSD. I also have my TEMP directory environment varibles pathed to a seperate larger hard drive.

Finally, I am really hoping it is just my machine. I hope it's infected. Because I don't want it to be something worse, like a weird DNS cache poisoning on my work network or something else nefarious.

Or hopefully it's a false-positive from our SonicWall... although I am afraid to disable the Gateway Antivirus feature...

I downloaded SP3 from Windows Update but it never says its done. Once the progress bar finishes, it just sits there. Am I being inpatient? Usually, the download finishes, then it's validated, then the install starts. It stopped after the download finished with no other status messages.

Hi, i just bought a strategy game by download only, hit the 'Download' button and everything went smoothly at first, with the 'progress bar' at bottom left gradually filling up.
But after an hour the bar vanished when it was only half full.
The 'working' wheel icon kept revolving as if the download was still alive, so I left it for another hour to see what happened, but to my shock horror a red X appeared at bott left (as below) and the clock vanished!
I searched my system but no sign of any game!
I'll have another crack later, but next time is there any way to check that any download (not just games) really is downloading and hasn't frozen, then if it's frozen I can immediately exit instead of wasting an hour waiting to see if it's going to do something?

Answer:Downloads, how do we know if they're downloading?

Which browser [and by inference, which built-in download manager] are you using?  There are plugins/extensions for Firefox that do a better job of "showNtell" as download[s] take[s] place [take that you English purists!]  I'm not familiar with Google Chrome or IE plugins/extensions enough to recommend something for either of those.

Well, Im addicted to Azureus and fan subbed anime. So, Im always downloading and uploading a lot.

My problem is that after a while ( a few hours ) of solid downloading/uploading, the internet will completely cease to work on this computer. I have to reboot it. The other computer that is on the same router, still gets onto the net fine.

I have a Intel Pro 1000 CT integrated network card on my Abit IC7-G with the newest drivers. Is there something I can configure differently to prevent this from happening? I hate leaving downloads/uploads over night to find that 3 hours into them, they just quit working.

I've noticed a strange issue with Vista 64 in that I can be downloading a file and then inexplicably it will stop and not resume. At first I thought it was just my connection, but it turned out that both IE and FF are acting the same way regardless of the website. If I did the same download on another machine using XP or 2K, it would download from start to finish. On this very same machine, in XP, downloads have no issue, but as soon as I'm in Vista, I will have a hard time doing a large file download...

anyone else notice this issue?

I've just started experiencing a problem with downloads lately. This has been covered in other posts but no answer.

The problem started yesterday with my downloads. I try to download something from www.nationalcountdownshow.com (One of their radio shows) and the download stopped at approximately 10meg of the 136meg file. Thought it was their site so I went to another site (4shared.com to download a large file there) and the same thing happened this time it stopped at 20meg of 150 meg file. Thought then that it was my browser. Tried IE, FIREFOX and Chrome at both sites with no avail. Tried a download manager (DownThemAll!) and the problem persists.

Thought then that maybe a virus got in. Cleaned the drive first with CCLeaner then did a scan with SUPERAnitspyware and Malwarebyts Anit-Malware. Still no resolve.

Tried rebooting the computer and still same problem persists. Small files work fine but large files just stop and do nothing.

I'm currently using Windows XP with all latest updates. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Jason

Hi there SwampCecil and welcome to SF
The file is just 20MB and downloaded in under 10 secs.
Is that just that one file that didn't download for you or is it more like a general thing that your downloads crash?
what browser are you using?
If you want i could upload said file to mediafire etc.

Hi, Having posted this on your antivirus etc. forum I was pointed towards the Microsoft forum who might be able to deal better with this type of problem. After my computer kept freezing and needing to be turned off I used the 'restore' wizard to bring it back to a previous date - unsure/can't remember (after hours of trying to make it 'go') what I did to get the problem originally which had caused this. Since doing this I have opened up a can of worms and just keep going from bad to worse! I have gone into this System Restore and used various dates to 'Undo' but still find that the antivirus I was using - Antivirus Avira PE Classic (Free) will not allow me to use it any more. It told me I needed to activate it but on doing this it just took me to the 'Help' button giving no more information of use. I tried to delete this (and it is not showing in the programs) but icons still exist on the desktop. I then tried to download it again from their web site but it will not do so. I get a box with the message "CCPLG.XML Unable to find file (c:) Program Files Avira/AntiVir Personal Edition Classic/ccplg.xml." I also keep getting a box headed "RUNDLL An exception occurred while trying to run "Shell32.dll,control-RunDLL wscul.cpl" this is obviously blocking any further progress and stopping further download installations I think. What is going on and how can I repair this problem?

Answer:Problems Downloading Antivirus + Other Downloads

Alright, first thing is that these free AV programs are frequently the malware itself, and it is VERY important for a User to be VERY clear on exactly what they are getting when they run an install, as removing them can be very difficult and time-consuming.

Generally, problems with a 3rd party application (like Avira) can be best & most-efficiently solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the software. It's free, and if it's a decent software it should uninstall quickly & completely (i.e. "cleanly") and reinstall with a minimum of hassle. Failure to perform at this level is a CLEAR indication that it is not a good software, and there are many others available that are equally good, such as AVG.

As to the service pack question, these are integrated into the Operating System, and not (to my knowledge) "installed" as a simple program would be. I don't think they can be "uninstalled" either. I also doubt they are the cause of your problem, nor do I think messing with them will help you.

I'm suspecting that you have some kind of infection (hence the attempts at System Restore) and that the infection has disabled your AV protection.

Try running TrendMicro's HouseCall in order to get a general idea of what the status of your computer is.

Hello everyone Usually I am very careful with downloading things, and feel I am the last person who might catch the malware. But this time I did things in a hurry as I just bought new SSD & HDD so I carelessly downloaded 2 programs from suspicious sites (joydownload & soft32.com). At least the first thing I installed was AVIRA free, which didn't find any suspicion in any of the files. I have also declined to install every weird program add on it offered. So here are the virustotal reports from both installers: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8...is/1384903167/ https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/4...is/1384903217/ I am also using Malwarebytes, but it does not work as real-time protection so I missed it this time. Later I deleted both files with malwarebytes, which didn't find any other malware on my pc, neither did AVIRA full scan. But what really scares me are ThreatExpert Reports: ThreatExpert Report ThreatExpert Report Both of them have some weird internet connections established and traffic outbound. I have also used HijackThis & GMER scan, which didn't find anything. And my computer is not acting weird or anyhow suspicious. (Except that I get lots of google findings to soft32.com everytime I search the program I would like to download, don't know if that's normal. My concern is Can I be 100% sure I am safe? Would you suggest anything else to check ? I am using SSD 250 GB = where my windows and main files are stored + 3.0 TB HDD where everyt... Read more

More often than not, when I download a sizable file, or watch a Youtube video, whatever, the download chugs along at a good speed, then slows down to almost nothing and never recovers. Network is fine because my work laptop does not have the problem.

I did some on line tests though none were long enough to consistently expose the problem. I connect at 1.5m and the first 15 sec or so works fine. I was able to duplicate the problem only about 20% of the time. When it failed, download speed slowed dramatically and then never recovered.

Well, weird issue I'm having here which started last week.

Whenever i try to download something from a site, no prompt will show up asking where i want to save it or anything, but it will still download.

Once the download is done, it THEN asks what i want to name it and where I want it to go, I've tried changing browsers and this seems to follow all of them. ran extensive virus scans ( as well as trying different scanners ) and nothing popped up.

Really not sure what else to do, don't know how i would search for this since "downloads will not start" is very vague.

Thanks for any help you can supply, I'm really lost on where to go with this so if you want more info just ask.

Edit: Also i want to say that there is no download progress anything on any of the browsers showing its downloading, the bottom of the page even says that they are still trying to connect to the download servers. There is not a single sign of the download happening on anything besides something displaying network traffic

Edit 2: Thanks for the move, new here.

So in this house we download a lot and we have a 20 Gb peak / 20 Gb off-peak account. Recently we ran out of downloads and got shaped so we bought a 12 Gig data block. Only two of our computers are currently working, one's mine and one's my dad's. Neither of us have downloaded anything, nor have we watched more than a couple of 5 minute you tube videos in the past two days since we got the block but already we're down to 8.5 Gigs.

Our network is wireless but secured with a WEP key, we live in the country too so it's unlikely that anyone could really be hacking or wardriving. Does anyone know what could account for the downloads?

Thanks,
Marlon,

I could be listening to a live radio stream or just downloading a file. Sometimes I can listen to it for ages, sometimes it downloads the file fully but at random times it stops downloading. Just goes to 0 b/s. This can get really annoying because I can't leave a big file downloading for hours without having to keep click 'resume' or 'retry' on the download manager. What would be the cause of this? I keep clearing my cache which is large enough to last a few weeks and changing browsers makes no difference.

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, so let me introduce myself;
I live in South Africa, in a remote region of mpumalanga.
While I certainly know my way around hardware and software, there
are still problems that just stump me out.
Having said that, on to the problem:

I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit,
and whenever I try to download ANYTHING from any website,
the download always stops at about 2Mb, as if IE just wont allow anything over 2mb to be downloaded.

Nothing wrong with my connection (just a bit slow, compared to the rest of the world), and I have no anti-virus running or other protection software.

I came across a thread on this site dealing with the problem, but I cant seem to acces the links that are shown for the solution.

Here is the link:
[SOLVED] Internet stops downloading after a few seconds

Can someone please explain to me exactly what I need to do to fix this, as it is apparently an issue with windows, and not my ISP?

Thanks in advance guys

Hi,

I have never had this happen before but this started yesterday and I think it may have to do with some registry cleaners I've been using etc...

Anyhow, I will attempt to download a file with good speed and then it will just stop in the middle of worse right at the end with 1% or 2% to go.

What's the deal?? Any ideas?

Thanks,

How can I continue downloading a file from the internet when my PC File Download stops at 3.99GB?

I started last night downloading a 4.4GB file to my external hard drive (I have 77GB free). It downloaded through the night and then, WHAM. It just stopped at 3.99GB. I have not canceled the download yet for fear of losing everything and having to start all over. Thus, my "file download" prompt is still open but no data is being downloaded. I goggled the issue and most comments point out that my file system is probably FAT32. I checked, my external hard drive but it is NTFS. So that's OK. Other comments stated that I should use a downloard manager. So I downloaded "FREE DOWNLOAD MANAGER Version 2.5 Build 755". That is now loaded but now what? I can't seem to find a way to resume the file download. So I'm stuck and I need help. Any assistance would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

Answer:Downloading Stops At 3.99gb

Well...anyone using dialup...probably should use a download manager...for just the same reason as you have currently encountered, if no other (i.e., the ability resume stopped downloads).

IMO, you will not be able to install the program and have it be effective for a download which was started before installing the program. I've never tried that but it seems counterintuitive to me.

So, cut your losses, install the download manager (FDM)...and initiate your download once again.

I see several instances of downloads being curtailed at 3.99GB, many of which have to do with the FAT limitation. Maybe you might check the file system on that external drive again, my experience with those is that FAT32 is the default file system used.

And..why not just download the file to your C: drive/partition and then move it to the external?

It could be worse...

When downloading from the internet, using flashget or the windows default downloader, if I try to browse the internet or play a game that utilizes the internet, the network adapter stops functioning. I have to then right click on the adapter in the lower right hand corner and chose to diagnose the problem. It then fixes the issue and the downloads continue, but I can not surf the web or play games still.

I am using windows 7. The hardware in the computer is available if necessary, although I don't think it's the issue.

thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

When attempting to download an attachment box comes up with "What should Firefox do with this file? I click "open with Real Player (default). Downloading start then after so many KB's are downloaded it stops. I start over and again stops after so many KB's are loaded. Not at the same amount of KB's. Always different amounts. Sometimes more sometimes less. Also when it stops the green scrolling dashes still appear as when it is downloading but it's not. Sometimes downloads completely. Usually after many attempts. This is a recent problem. Have downloaded for years with no problems. Recently installed a Belkin G router which works fine. That was the only recent change. Thanks Kenny G

Answer:Downloading stops before complete.

I've also been having a lot of problems with downloads stopping midstream with Firefox 2. I solved the problem (worked around it actually) by installing the app from FreeDownloadManager.org which has a lot more flexibility (even the lite version), is a lot faster, and has never given me a problem downloading.

Since a long time I've had a very poor internet. I decided to get 4G internet since it provided 10 times more download speed than my previous internet. After using it for a while, I realized something kept happening. I can't download anything with it, a few seconds after I start downloading something, it starts slowing down and ends up completely stopping the download, happens with Chrome, Mozilla and IE. Also, loading videos stops after a while, as I change the quality of the video, they load for a few more minutes. This does not happen with any other internet I use.

I'd like to know if anyone knows why this is happening, and possibly, if anyone knows the fix.
Thanks~

I've had a scary development. When downloading files or programs from the Net, through Explorer 7, the download stops at 99% and freezes. I cannot cancel the download panel.

I have Windows XP Pro.

This happens both when I go to save the file and when I click on open, that is, when the file is downloading to a temp folder.

HELP!

This is a very scary thing for me.

I have been having problems downloading either files or email attachments that were fairly large, say 4 mb or larger. I'm running XP, have 500 meg of memory, etc. Everything has been working fine except when I try to download any large file, the download would just quit about 1/2 way through. The computer wouldn't freeze, the download would just quit. On a hunch, I removed my Ativa router. Bam, problem solved. I just downloaded a 65 mb file with no problem. Other than buying a Linksys router does anyone have a suggested solution? Appreciate any help.

I have a problem with downloading large files from the internet. I don't think its an ISP connection issue because a second computer on the same ADSL router works fine. Files that are around 4 to 5 MB download okay. Larger files start to download okay but then eventually hangs. No error message appears. You can tell from the Connection Status dialoge box that network traffic has stopped. The same thing happens when downloading from ftp sites using a separate ftp client (not MS IE).Small files okay, large files hangs.

I was hit by a virus which has now been removed using Kaspersky virus removal.
The scan now shows clean both with that software and with malwarebytes.
Unfortunately the cleanup seems to have done something to my system and I am not able to access MSE in any way. The icon looks like a sheet of paper. I tried deleting through control panel programs and features but get an error
"You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Microsoft security essentials. Please contact your system administrator."

I am the administrator on this computer the only other user is guest.
Also, I cannot download any software or pdf files. When I try it deletes the file telling me Failed, Virus scan failed.

Can anyone help please???

Answer:MSE error stops all downloading and cannot be turned off.

mgadams,

Welcome to the forum!

Can you tell us the name of the virus removed, and the exact name of the Kaspersky program used for removal? If you have a report, that will help.

On the damage, also download Farbar Service Scanner

Save to the Desktop Make sure the following options are checked:Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press: Scan
FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.

Hello guys.
I have got a problem a couple of months with my internet connection.
My modem router is a Netgear DGN1000 and it is connected with my desktop pc through ethernet and with my brother's laptop with wireless.
I do not have any problems when i download something from my desktop.
But when my brother wants to download something big (mostly Torrents) from his laptop, after 5 to 15 minutes of downloading the connection stops in both of our computers.
The strange thing is that the network and internet LEDs on the router are still on and seems like it is working properly.
Is it a network problem? A router problem? A homegroup problem?
Please help me, that was is happening is very annoying and i have to restart the router everytime my brother wants to download something. (we can not connect it with ethernet because of distance of the router).
This problem occured suddenly after a router restart.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Internet stops when downloading via WiFi

Torrents are a very Big No No.

They cause all kinds of problems, and 99% of the content downloaded from them are illegal and filled to the brim with malware.

Sometimes your internet service provider will halt or throttle your connection when using torrents.

Simple: Do not use torrents.

Answer:This installation stops me from downloading other programs.

Lets get the terminology right. Downloading means transferring data from a server to a client over a network.Installing a programme from a disk is just that, installing. However, as it was over a year ago, reverting back to a previous restore point will not be an option.Try doing a repair install. This will rewrite the registry and you will lose all updates and they will be needed to be installed. If you had terminated the installation correctly you woad not have had this problem. Rebooting or removing the disk half way through an installation is not the way to do it.Stuart

My computer is a laptop Toshiba computer. I was working as normal and I do remember I disconnected my USB for my mouse before trying to shut down the computer. I went to the start button to log off as I normally do, and the start window totally froze and would not let me log off as normal. I became suspicious that this may be a virus attack so I shut down immediately. So I tried to reboot, but I have been totally unsuccessful.
As I try to restart the computer, it gives me the option to "repair" and I have tried to do that, but the "windows loading files" bar that appears loads about halfway, then it comes to a total halt. I'm given an unexpected I/O error and the letters are "OXC00000e9"
The next window that appears says "Windows encountered a problem communicating with the device connected to your computer (Which currently I do not have anything connected) caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as external USB drive while device in use or by faulty hardware such as hard drive or CD ROM drive that is failing." At the top of this message the page reads "Windows Boot Manager"
I have tried to reboot using F7 but no help, I tried safe mode and safe mode with networking.
I don't have reboot disks.
Is there anyone that can please help me?
I would gladly pay if you can direct me on how to resolve this or what I can do to rescue my files.

With certain sites, my downloads never seem to finish downloading. It's not completely random, because I can come to expect it from some sites... such as wikipedia, nvidia and a few others. With larger image files(>2mb) on wikipedia, the image will just stop downloading midway. With download files, like from Nvidia, the download will just stop and show 0.0 speed. I can usually resolve this by pausing and resuming, but sometimes the file doesn't start back where it started(and with refreshing images, ALWAYS restart), leading to it just doing it over and over, stopping at random places. Sometimes it'll get to 10%, sometimes to 25%, sometimes it's stopped at 95%.

Regardless, very annoying, and I don't believe it's my connection. I can download 100mb+ files from certain sites like download.com, where the connection seems to always be reliable.

I'm currently on Windows XP SP2, Firefox 3.0.11(though it does the same thing in IE). I've tried download managers as well, and they won't suddenly stop, per say, the bar stops moving and the download speed will slowly go down until it gets to some really low number like 300bytes a second. All the while I can view sites perfectly. I've ran multiple virus/malware scans, but this has been happening since I started with a fresh install... I just can't stand it anymore.

Hey all! This is a pretty annoying problem that's been plaguing me for a while and seems to keep getting worse.

In both Firefox 3 and IE7, whenever I try to download anything over like half a megabyte, the download will just stop going. It won't give me a "Download Failed" message unless I try to pause and restart the download, it will just hang at the progress bar indefinitely. And when I say indefinitely, I mean that one night, just for sh*** and giggles, I started downloading a 173 MB file that hung up somewhere around 57%. After a whole night, it was still at 57%.

I thought it might be a problem with my router, so I connected directly into my cable modem. Same problem. I thought a program might be interfering, so I uninstalled all superfluous programs and anything that required internet access to work. Same problem. This is while using nothing but the basic download managers for Firefox 3 and IE7, no plugins, nothing.

The problem even extends to streaming flash videos and music files.

On top of all this, it's getting worse. Basically all my downloads are halting after more than a second or two.

I run a Zonealarm firewall, AVG Antivirus, and SuperAntiSpyware. All scans have turned up clean. And the problem persists whether Zonealarm is running or not.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Answer:Downloads stopping randomly.

I have the same problem - anything over about 40 mB hangs up until I cancel. Tried switching to Firefox after using IE7, and installed DownThemAll, which doubled the download speed, but it still just stops - literally - the Kbps/sec throttles down to 0, just like your car at a stopsign. Tried turning off the Firewall and Antivirus (both Norton360) no change. Used Ccleaner, AdAware and MalWareBites, nothing found and no change.
I'm now waiting for Oracle Customer Service to call me back, since it's one of their .zipped manuals (349 Mb), and performed all the preliminary stuff they suggested.
Hope somebody has an answer, since this is a business related issue for me.

Hi there,
This is really frustrating. Almost every time I try to download a document/video it stops after a few seconds and doesn't start again. I've tried with IE8, Safari, Firefox and Chrome. They're all the same.
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and a Lynksys router.
My wife has XP on her laptop and it downloads without a problem on the same router.
We're wondering if this is an issue with 7 and Lynksys?
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 4GB RAM.
It's been getting worse so I'd love it if anyone could shed some light on this.
Thanks.

Hello.

I'm looking for help with a strange problem, that started occuring recently on my computer. When I'm connected to the Internet, during downloads my data transfer suddenly stops for a few seconds, all transfers are cancelled.

It isn't visible when I'm browsing through the websites, but when I'm downloading files from the Internet, or movies on YouTube it gets worse: after a minute of downloading the transfer stops, and never resumes. I have to do it manually, but then after ~1 minute everything repeats.

First I thought that my ISP was to blame. But a week later I moved to a different location, and used a connection provided by a completely different company - nothing has changed.

So now I suspect that something is wrong with my computer/software. Maybe some kind of malware?

I scanned and cleaned my PC with Avast, AVG Anti-spyware, SS&D, ANG Anti-Rootkit and Ad-Aware. Also I launched ComboFix. Nothing helped.

I'm attaching two log files: ComboFix and HijackThis.

Thanks in advance for all the help, and advice!

I have been fighting this problem now for over a month. I have searched and searched forums for info on this and have found an awful lot of people who have or have had this problem. I have tried everything I could find and recommended to solve this problem but no good so far.
I hope someone here can help on this.
I have tried Malwarebytes, Spybot, removed Norton Sercurity Suite, tried to uninstall and re install Flash Player, but nothing but extremely short downloads will complete its download, something about 1/2 Meg in size.
I have tried Firefox and IE8. Tried disabling "AD ONS" for both, but does no good.

I am now considering copying everything to another storage device and do a complete restore of the OS.

Any ideas will be tried in hopes of solving this problem.

Both these computers are about 3 years old.
This is happening on my desktop (HP): (Which have been working ok until this all started about a month or more ago.)
p6834w,
4.00 GB RAM,
AMD Phenom IIX2 521 Processor 3.50 GHz
64 Bit Operating System

And also happening on my Laptop Acer: (Which have been working ok until this all started about a month or more ago.)
1.00 GB RAM
1.2 GHz Processor

What is strange is, I have a DELL, running xp Pro, 3.00 GB RAM, 2.66 GHz Processor in the same room, running on the same home network and it has not skipped a beat during or before this time.

I sincerely hope someone can help resolve this problem for me short of starting with a fresh windows install or resto... Read more

Question: USB stops randomly

Hi,
For the past month or so, my kb & mouse will stop randomly. I can move them from the usb ports in the back of the machine to the ones in front without rebooting and they will work. But eventually the same thing happens with those ports as well. I have scanned with malwarebytes and window av and both come up clean. I'm running Windows 10. I thought the most recent windows update fixed the problem, but it just takes longer now before it happens. A reboot is the only thing that gets them working again, but they still freeze eventually.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards,
Jon

I have an HP pavilion m9400f with 6Gb RAM ;2.4 gigahertz AMD quad-core; 802.11n wireless PCI Express card LAN adapter. I am accessing the internet wirelessly through a Dlink router DIR655. when I look at the properties is shows my wireless shows capable of downloading 135 mbps. When I try to download (ie iTunes podcast) it shows it downloading at 300 kbps then drops to 3 or 5kbps then stops. There are 2 other computers on the same system & they have no problem with downloads. I tried getting rid of my Norton 360 thinking that might have been the problem but -no change. Can you help?

And when I say indefinitely, I mean that one night, just for ****s and giggles, I started downloading a 173 MB file that hung up somewhere around 57%.

Hello all. I'm have a problem where my downloads start but then about 10% or so into the download, sometimes more or less, the downloads will freeze and not complete. Same thing happens when i stream a video, it'll start for a bit, then stop. I've tried using IE and firefox and it does the same on both explorers. What's wierd is that downloading torrents or if i download something using a download manager type thing it downloads fine.

I'm running Vista 64. My internet is... well. I'm tethering my phone to my computer which might be the problem. For those of you not familiar with tethering it's connecting a cell phone to my computer via usb and using it as a modem to connect to the internet. The phone is a razr v3xx and it's using cingular gprs to connect. hopefully that's enough info on the connection.

The system was recently just put together and installed, formatted yesterday so it's doubtful it's a virus or malware.

any ideas on what's causing the problem would be awesome! i've searched all over and no one seems to have come up with an answer. thanks guys

-Kris

Answer:downloads/streams randomly stop

Hi

Only have a thought to add for you, in that its quite possible that using a mobile to connect the mobile signal is refreshed as the phone is checking its location to mast at regular intervals, so could be why you loose connection when not using a DL manager or p2p app as they have built in re-connect for the file if connection is interupted. Interfearence could also be a cause, but tracking that one down is like looking for needle in haystack

So for general sufing it also doesnt matter if a connection is interupted, but for streaming or downloading using Windows downloader, then any loss of connection aborts/halts the download.

Ok, so I have Firefox 1.0 on windows xp (I have had this problems with all versions of firefox...), eveytime I download a file that is somewhat large (5mb+), the download will mysteriously stop in the middle of downloading. Then, I retry, and it stops again but not in the same place, always in a random place. Then, I tried downloading the same file with a download manager (I use WackGet) and it does the same thing! Help? Could it be my router?

This has been a problem for a while now, operative system is Windows 7. Whenever i download anything from the internet in general, the download always seem to freeze at different points. Browser downloads could for example freeze at 200Mb. I could try to download once again and it could freeze at as little as 5Mb on the second try, and so on.

This does not only happen for browser downloads, but for download processes inside programs such as Steam, where the download freezes and only continues if i pause and continue the download manually. However, in clients with no download pause option, there is no way to continue any frozen download. I have to restart the client and try downloading from the beginning. The issue is bigger when it comes to large files because, as i see it, the longer the download takes, the higher chance there is of it freezing.

All my drivers are up to date and the only types of downloads that don't come with this issue are torrents.

Also, this problem only applies to a desktop which is connected to the internet with a cable. I have a laptop connected to the same network. On the laptop, whether it's connected with a cable or through WiFi, all downloads work fine.

Hi, I'm having an extremely annoying problem with Google Chrome. I am trying to download large files which are taking about 3-8 hours to download. I don't have that much time, so I have to put my computer into sleep mode. Now, the problem is, I put it into sleep mode, turn it back on, Chrome says the downloads are finished. I open one of them, and it says the file is corrupt. What can be done to fix this?

I'm not real sure what is causing this but I've been trying to download a 600 meg file in Internet Explorer. It will work fine for a while and then all of a sudden my connection stops working for everything (download, torrent, icq, wow, etc). Then I restart the computer and modem and it's back. This is pretty annoying and I'm not sure what causes it. I'm on a cable modem and then into a hub that splits the connection between two computers (however one is currently off/inactive). Any ideas? Thanks.

I use Verizon DSL, and the connection frequently breaks off. Most of the time when I'm on youtube or other online streaming site, the video will get stuck and stop loading. Even after I tried reloading it, it would get stuck again at some other spot. Many times when I was downloading files, it would stop downloading midway. Sometimes when I'm browsing websites, and I clicked on a link, it would just say "loading" while not load at all. The modem (Westell 6100) is directly connected to my computer, and there are five lights on the modem: power, ethernet, usb, dsl, and internet. Whenever there is web activity, the internet light usually blinks at the same time. Now whenever there is a connection problem, the light stays solid the whole time. However, at the moment that a video stops streaming, and I opened another window to go to a website, it did load successfully. So that means the connection only breaks off selectively. Also, the dsl light is solid the whole time, which means I'm connected to the internet. Also, this problem occurs to both Firefox and IE.
So far, I've tried clearing my cache, reinstalling my browsers, deleting Kapersky (I thought it was the culprit for blocking the connection.), resetting my modem and router, and the problem persists. I need help, serious help. I tried calling the CS many times, but they never give me any solution. I tried asking elsewhere (yahoo answer), but that was fruitless. Hi, really hope someone can help me out on this because its driving me insane.
I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit. Basically, the problem I'm having is my internet browsers stop loading pages after I have been downloading for a certain time (or maybe a certain amount of data?), This includes Internet Explorer as well as Firefox. The funny thing is that I can still sign in to MSN messenger and I found I can still ping websites (after searching google, found that ability to ping was a standard request of Mods in other forums) and my Network status shows no problems even when i "diagnose and repair". This problem has been bugging me for a while now, I even formatted my c: drive and re-installed windows but the problem is still there! Surely it cannot be a virus/spyware etc? I run daily scans with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and have had Bitdefender installed since starting the computer for the very first time!

I have a friend who used the same Vista cd I used to install, and he seems to be having the same problem. As he is in a different house, the internet settings surely cannot be a factor? The common factor seems to be the installation CD, is that even possible?

PLEASE HELP

My problem is that, whilst browsing the internet, suddenly without warning I can no longer view any pages, I just get the "cant connect to server" timeout style errors. This can be after either 5 minutes, or 50 minutes of normal use. BUT, as soonas it starts, I cannot view ANY webpages, or connect to my personal webpages using FTP. I have checked all my network hardware (see below) and its fine.... and to prove it, even while i am experiencing the problem i can still ping an ip address fine... for example I can ping the goodle ip address, and EVEN ping using "ping www.google.com" from dos on my PC. SO i know its something XP-ish - not my network.

I am using XP Home ed, with SP1 and all the latest updates from Miscrosoft. I am using the lastest IE6 also.
I connect using an ethernet cable to a hub, then router onto ADSL. I have another PC on my hub which is FINE and never loses connection....

I have seen various people on help forums with this problem, but no one has posted a FIX... just suggested various debugging things which I am kind of uneasy to do (because messing about this settings can often create more problems than solving the initial one!).

PLEASE only post a reply to this if you KNOW the specific fix.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Try updating your Flash Player, Shockwave Player, and Java.

You can also try blocking some of the ads. If you use Firefox you can use Adblock, Flashblock, and NoScript to block just about all of them. Chrome has similar add-ons, but I am not familiar with it. I have no idea what IE has.

I nned some help to resolve the following trouble:

Randomly on Windows 7 64 bits users can't print anymore whatever the printer choosen.

Printers are shared on a network server .

The only way close and log session again.

Answer:Print job stops randomly

Do you have admin access to the printer server in your business environment? Can you provide a JCGriff Report of your printer server without violating your business' security policy? It contains a lot of information concerning your system (sys/app event logs, specs, various error reports, drivers, etc.), and while it makes no effort to provide private information like passwords, there is enough information to assist someone for intrusion.

Honestly, for a business, unless it's your business or you have authority to make security decisions, it would not be wise nor expedient to ask assistance on an open forum. You should contact your internal IT department or whoever typically services your network and servers.

Hi people. Having an annoying issue that's started occurring the last couple days.
As the title says my sound is dropping out at random times.
I've noticed it has occurred when my computer stops performing a task with sound.
It has stopped after playing a game, watching a movie and listening to youtube.
Once it stops it will not work again until I restart the computer.
Fixes I have tried so far include:
A- re-installing sound drivers
B- trying to restart the windows audio service but it gets stuck on restarting
C- reinstall my graphics driver to reinstall amd HDMI audio drivers

Recent changes I have made to my computer include some cable management, and the installation of a new HDD.

Once the sound stops, I cannot start up a game; a can play movies in vlc player with no sound but have to kill the process in the task manager; itunes will not play a song. The audio was working with the new HDD.

I have attached two dxdiag files one before the sound drops out and one after.

Thank you all for your help, Steven

I have a Dell laptop. I can be typing merrily away, when the blinking cursor (which is usually immediately after the last character you've typed) disappears, and I find that what I am typing no longer appears on the screen. It isn't after any particular letter and seems totally random eg  sometimes it happens after 20 words, sometimes after 2 characters. I have to watch the screen the whole time, to see if what I'm typing is making it onto the screen. If not, I left click after the last character on the screen and can carry on emailing, writing a letter etc. It's very annoying. I have no idea what causes it. Can you help, please?

Answer:typing stops (randomly)

I assume that your laptop has a trackpad of some description. Is it possible that you are inadvertently brushing this with your wrists or the base of one of your thumbs while you are typing ?

Just as a suggestion, plug in a mouse and disable / turn off your trackpad and see if the problem continues. I only use a laptop from time to time, but if I am going to do anything intensive on one I always switch the trackpad for a mouse. I too have had some strange things happening on a laptop until I worked out that my normal typing style kept me brushing the thing !

Answer:Computer Randomly Stops

First thing to do if i were you is backup backup backup everything on the hard drive thats important to you onto some other external medium.

My experience is that when something like this happens and theres no record in the windows log file it means that an error message could not be written to the log file on the hard drive.

This could be because the hard drive no longer exists on the system, it stopped working, it switched off, or information in the memory dissapeared.

An intermittent problem is always the worst to diagnose.

What make, model, size and age is your hard drive?

It is my experience that larger hard drives fail far more quickly than smaller ones. Laptop hard drives have a much shorter life than those fitted inside a desktop / tower.

Identify the make and model, visit the manufacturers website and download there diagnostcs tool, follow instructions on how to use it and use it to run tests on your hard drive.

If your hard drive fails tests this doesn't nessesarily mean that its faulty, it may mean that the tool lost communication with the drive.

Make sure that power is getting to the drive at all times and the communication cable is in good condition and fits snuggly

You could also run Scandisk or Checkdisk, same thing.

If you have a perminent problem the cause can be found easily, if you have an irregular problem it can be a nightmare.

Just because tests pass doesn't mean the item being tested is OK, it just means it passed those tes... Read more

Hi, my PC had this problem for quite a long time now. Sometimes the HDD just stops spinning randomly and starts again after a while, maybe 5 sec or even up to 30 sec of freezing time. During this time every thing on the PC freezes, and the HDD light is not shining.
I have thought about several problems, but I can't decide which one is the real one.

1. PSU supply insufficient
This is quite impossible since I've got a 550W PSU with 80 Plus Bronze, which means my PC's max PSU supply is around 600W. But my PC only got a GTX 460 OC edition and no other PSU requiring hardwares.
CPU is i5-2500, 8GB RAM with two HDD. The max usage should be the most 400W.

2. Main/Secondary HDD
I accidentally made my old 160GB HDD as the main HDD while the new WD Caviar Black 1TB as the secondary HDD. I highly suspect that it's the 1TB HDD that is not spinning, since most of my stuff are stored on that HDD, but not the 160GB one. Im wondering if setting a disk as a secondary storage will affect its priority and performance. I also got the Intel Rapid Storage thingy on my PC, but it can only detect the 160GB HDD, and not the Caviar Black.

3. Sandy Bridge MB Flaw
Well I bought my PC in Jan 2011, that time Intel just released the Sandy Bridge. The P67 and H67 motherboards at that time had flaws, which had problem in the SATA ports on the MB. The problem will cause slow degration in the hardware connected to the SATA ports overtime. But the flaws only occured in the 3GBps port... Read more

Answer:HDD stops spinning randomly

You didn't list "faulty hard drive" as a possibility (even new hard drives have been known to be faulty).
Whether you configure a drive as your main (system) drive or just for storage wouldn't cause the problem you describe or affect it's performance generally. I would test the Caviar Black drive with WD's Data Lifeguard for Windows diagnostic software. Get it here: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=613&sid=3&lang=en

Hey! I have a problem with the following symptoms on a T61 9659 CTO model. - trackpoint randomly stops working during use or after wake up- this issue appears under Windows 7 64 bit and also Ubuntu Linux- there is nothing in the system log- sometimes, after waking up, neither of trackpoint and touchpad are usable and ultranav options are greyed out for both.- A full power cycle is alwas helps (poweroff, cold start) but a reboot or sleep/wake cycle is also helps sometimes)- as far as I notived, this behaviour can happen even if I leave the machine on the desktop alone (no physical impact on the chassis)- during these, keyboard remains operational (despite that they share the flex cable with the trackpoint) So what I think is less likely:- driver issue (2 different OSs, same behaviour)- cable issue (working keyboard, also happens when notebook us untouched) So, what? I saw a lot of topics about this, because this issue showed up on different models (also non-lenovo products are affected) and I really annoyed and want to find out the root cause. Buying a replacement keyboard, new notebook, anything else is not an option. I hope, there are a guy out there with a circuit drawing or something like this, who can help. Yes, I tried to reinstall ultranav driver, etc, blah blah blah. This is an issue, not just a driver bug. Thanks for any help!

Answer:T61 trackpoint stops randomly

Findings so far:- After a BIOS reset and a power management drive update, this issue seems to be solved- Notebook ran for almost 8 hours w/o any problem- After setting power plan to optimize performance and a sleep/wake up cycle, problem appeared again, but gone after switching to other power scheme

Never had a problem before with downloading anything until I upgraded my connection to 40meg fibre, but since the day of activation I have a strange issue that downloads will randomly freeze and refuse to resume or complete.
I get no time out error, just a progress bar that does not move, however it will still show a 'time remaining' and a download speed that reflects the status of the download from before it stopped working.
I can rule out the isp as the issue is not present on my other 2 desktop computers, my laptop, smart tv and a selection of phones which all connect to the same router.

The problem is also not limited to any particular type of download, it happens not only in firefox, chrome and IE but also things like Steam and Origin game downloads, streaming video, youtube videos etc.

Is there possibly any common issue that this could be? The issue did begin after the new connection was activated but of course there is every chance this is unrelated.

Generally small files a few mb in size complete successfully before the problem manifests, but I can almost guarantee it will happen at some point with anything over a few hundred mb.
When the downloads stop working, everything else functions normally, web pages still load, no error messages are recieved and simply canceling the download and restarting will commence the download again with no issue (until it decides to freeze up again)

I use Windows Vista and Mozilla Firefox as a browser and work for a website, so I'm constantly browsing around for news and media. Anyway, at least once a week, I get a virus or Trojan in my Temp folder or attached to my registry files (HKey, etc). I've noticed that all these viruses (mostly fake anti-virus programs) infiltrate my computer when Java randomly opens. It's really weird because the version of Java that opens is never running unless it's to download a malicious file. It's pretty terrible because these programs just latch on to my files without asking permission to download them. I use Rkill to end processes and either manually delete the files or use Malawarebytes to remove them...some of them have been so bad that I've had the blue screen of death. This mostly happens when I'm just browsing websites (most of which aren't sketchy). Is there anyway to prevent this so I don't have to constantly deal with manually deleting them, or worse - deal with my computer dying?

Answer:Java Randomly Downloads Trojans/Viruses

reinstall Java altogether. You may have compromised your system, a virus opened a backdoor most AV clean out the infection but dont patch the vulnerability a virus enabled.

Internet stops working after downloading for approx. 30 mins.

For quite awhile, I've been encountering a mouse pointer problem on my PC (Windows 10), and its driving me nuts because it never happened while I was on Windows 7.

The cursor occassionally or randomly stops moving when I move the mouse consistently.

Demonstration: http://i.imgur.com/03kbZJx.gifv

In the demonstration, I moved my mouse consistently towards right, but cursor stops moving at few instances while my mouse is still moving. To put this into what it feels like, it feels like something is pulling or stopping the cursor randomly, if cursor is stuck, it won't move if I move the mouse less than 2mm in all directions but it will move if I move the mouse greater than 2mm in all directions. Sometimes it happens more often and sometimes it happens less.

My mouse is Logitech G502, I believe my mouse has no problem because I tried it with my laptop (Same OS and Mouse driver) and it worked perfectly fine.

My mouse driver don't need update. (HID-compliant mouse, 10.0.10586.0)
My GPU driver don't need update. (NVIDIA, 10.18.13.6519)
I don't have Logitech Gaming Software installed.
I tried different USB ports (2.0 or 3.0) and it makes no difference.
The problem still happens in safe mode.
Reinstalling Windows shall be my last resort.

Any suggestions?

I'm not real sure what brings it on but every once in a while the right click button will just completely stop working altogether while I'm browsing IE7. I'm using a Dell m1330 laptop with a Logitech VX Revolution USB mouse. Sometimes when it happens the right click stops working everywhere else like on the main desktop as well. Sometimes I can fix it by just closing out IE7. Sometimes I have to close out everything I have currently running. Sometimes I just have to reboot. Anyone else having troubles in Vista where your mouse buttons just stop working? Any fixes for the issue?
