Recently was given a toshiba satellite c55t and clean slated it but I'm getting a weird Bios Issue

Question: Recently was given a toshiba satellite c55t and clean slated it but I'm getting a weird Bios Issue

I recently acquired a brand new barely used Toshiba satellite c55t and I slapped a 500gb ssd evo850 in it and reinstalled everything upgraded it from a windows8 pro I had. Then formated it and reinstalled windows 10 clean. I installed CIS Pro did the windows updates. And all of the sudden it started booting into PXE mode before windows booted. So I got into this atrocious UEFI Shell they have for this thing and looked around for the lan in boot sequence. The boot order was fine with Lan being last. Now I said the uefi shell was bad b/c I can't remove Lan from the boot sequence list. So it keeps booting PXE before windows and it gives me the option to hit esc and cancel out of it, I always do but its a pita and I'm wondering how I stop this from coming up when I can't remove it in the BIOS. If I straight up turn the LAN adapter off it works but then the LAN doesn't work at all so I'm basically stuck. Maybe someone has more insight on this issue I did a bunch of googling and I came up with nothing: everyone wants you to remove the Lan option from boot sequence...Well what if I can't?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Recently was given a toshiba satellite c55t and clean slated it but I'm getting a weird Bios Issue

Not 100%, but the best I've got;

1. On another computer, download the official LAN driver from the Toshiba support website. On Toshiba laptop, go to Device Manager, uninstall LAN driver and driver software (tick). Install the official driver. Reboot into BIOS. Set to defaults. Reboot.

2. Set BIOS to default. Clean format.

PXE usually points to a HDD issue. But you say your computer boots just fine if LAN is disabled? That seems super odd to me. I'm not sure if it is software or hardware. My two cents until someone that knows what they're talking about shows up.

Not 100% sure that this is a hardware issue but that's my best guess after everything else that I've tried....

I am no longer able to type double letters/numbers or even use the backspace or arrow keys properly. If I try to type double letters (for example, the t's in letter), I have to either hit the space bar and then the backspace key to get the cursor back to the proper position after the first t to continue typing the next t or I have to arrow back to just before the first t that I typed so that it will allow me to type the second t then hit the END key to get the cursor back to the correct position to continue typing. (Hopefully that made sense!)

But the really strange, and frustrating, part about this is that this issue does not happen if I hold down the shift key while I type.

I have already tried the following in hopes of correcting this issue:
Adjust my key's typing delay speed - no change
Turn of my filter/sticky keys - no change
Clean out my keyboard - no change
Uninstall my keyboard driver and reboot - no change
Perform a system reset - no change

Anyone have additional ideas to solve this problem or what the issue may be?

I have a friend's Toshiba Satellite C55t-A5102 with Windows 8.1. When it boots I get the following message:

1. HDD/SSD
2. USB
3. ODD
4. LAN

Please help. Thank you.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C55t-A -- No bootable device

Hi there gomez4096,

I recommend checking the HDD for any errors. Download "SEATOOLS" DOS version and put the program onto a bootable media(e.g. CD). Then boot the computer to the Seatools CD that you just created. Follow the on-screen instructions and test the computer HDD for any errors. Make sure to run both the short and extended test.

It's possible that the HDD is the culprit. How old is this laptop may I ask? Check Toshiba's website to see if the laptop is under warranty. If so, contact Toshiba and have them replace the hard drive(assuming that Seatools gives out an error).

Hope everything works out well for you and feel free to ask more questions, thank you.

It happens right after I start certain programs. So far it's happened with League of Legends and iTunes (when I go to the iTunes store). I'm usually really good about keeping my computer healthy and I can diagnose problems without any help typically, but this time I'm stumped.

Thanks

The touchpad on my toshiba was not working. I uninstalled the driver after reading some posts. Then I deleted the device. Clearly not my best moment. Now when I go to the start menu I can find the driver, but the device has been removed. Is there a way to reinstall it? I am using Windows 10 and I'm not computer wise....obviously. Thanks for the assistance.

Toshiba Satellite C55T-A5222 Laptop (PSCF6U-01T00D) - originally came with Windows 8 64-bit

If it's now running Windows 10 64-bit, select that Windows version for the operating system, then select the "Drivers & Updates" tab, then select "Keyboard and touchpad", then select and download the driver.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then install it.

inherited a laptop with a weird issue. internal dvd burner drive works for one use only. after you watch a movie, install a program, copy music/movie to your hard drive, the drive just dies. nothing will fix the issue aside from a hard reboot. i've connected an external drive, both IDE and SATA (have an adapter that will accept both), and they identify immediately, will read multiple discs, ect ect. can even install an OS with the external drive.

im stumped with this issue. i had reinstalled the OS when i got the laptop, drive worked fine, copied many movies (that i legally own to test out the copy issue the previous owner said it had) with no issues. a few days later, drive will only read once then refuses to read anything else.

the first thing i thought of was perhaps the mechanism that moves the lazer back to its starting point had crapped out.. but i have no real way to rest this. when the drive dies, insertion of a new disc causes it to make its usual whirr whirr reading noise.. but eventually comes back with a redundancy error (cannot read).

ive ordered an external drive off of newegg but was wondering if perhaps this could be motherboard-related.

Answer:weird DVD burner issue, toshiba satellite laptop

DVD Burner maybe is just simply crapping out. You could try to update the firmware on it, maybe.

Hello dear forum users,

I have a BIOS virus and nothing seems to help. First I installed a BIOS version from 1.10 to 1.30(.exe), then I wiped my HDD completely and installed the newest version, which is 1.40. Now I can't reinstall the BIOS, because it says the version is the same as that installed on my laptop(1.40). Is there a flashable BIOS installation for this laptop? I couldn't find one in toshiba europe's driver page.

Toshiba Satellite a25-s207. Windows XP Professional.

how do I lower the brightness without the use of function keys?
I do not have the startup disks or anything that my computer originally came with six years ago. I have recently reformatted my computer. I've searched on the internet for drivers only finding rather fishy websites. I have looked extensively through the toshiba website ( such as through this link http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=429794&rpn=PSA20U&modelFilter=&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663&selModel=429794%7CPSA20U)
only finding some driver support. I realize this product doesn't get updates any more, but I'm trying to figure out what bios and firmware options this thing needs or even if I'm saying that right. I can't even access the function keys to lower the brightness.
If there is something more I should post please let me know. Thank you very much.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A25-s207, recently reformatted, needing firmware support...Possibly

The big mistake that you made before you formatted the hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro in your Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 laptop was not writing down the descriptions in the Device Manager for:

Display Adapters

Network Adapters

Sound Video And Game Controllers

and then obtaining and burning off to a CD-R the current drivers for them.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I checked the Toshiba link that you provided. You'll have much better luck refining your search with Windows XP instead of Windows XP SP2/SP3, and then selecting Display and Sound and LAN and Mouse and downloading the drivers from there.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Don't worry about BIOS or firmware updates. They're usually not needed, and you can render your laptop or the drives inoperable by installing the wrong ones or if the install goes wrong.

I got a Toshiba Satellite C55t-A5218 as a gift about 3 weeks ago and overall its a good laptop,
however I am very disappointed with one aspect.

The sound output is shocking on all software, whether using the built in speakers or external speakers or headphones.

All that is produced from any of them is a tinny, quiet sound quality with absolutely no bass. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the sound card or something else but feel as though a laptop as high-end and expensive as this should come ready to play music high-quality.

I also got this laptop from abroad so can't really take it back the the shop. Is there any help somebody can offer on here?

Is this something that can be sorted on the laptop or will i have to fork out more money on a new sound card?

Answer:Sound quality on Satellite C55t-A5218

Sound quality is often not so good due to internal speakers. Some laptops have normal stereo speakers and sound is not so good. Otherway some of them have high quality Harman/Kardon and sound is great.

Anyway, have you tried to test it with different players and play a bit with Equalizer?

I have a problem.

I?ve downgraded my Toshiba Satellite C55T-A5222 to Windows 7 64-bit and he didn't install many drivers.
The windows didn't recognize my network connection and he didn't install my wireless driver.

If Windows 7 did not recognize the LAN and WLan card, you did not install proper drivers.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55t-B laptop that has an internal DVD player. It's only several months old. When I first attempted to play a dVD it worked. After I updated to Windows 10 the DVD stopped working.

There is a driver (?) listed TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB
When I click to check it - it says "working properly"

YET, the player doesn't work when I attempt to play a DVD.

I downloaded the VLC media player
It still will not recognize that I have a DVD in the player.

I've read multiple posts on problems with this issue. It's maddening that I may have to pay someone to fix a problem on a new laptop that worked prior to the update.

Any suggestions? (I'm not tech savvy.)

I first noticed that when I was on AC power, the battery would start discharging, and the charge light would be off. So I shut down, took the battery out, and tried to restart on AC. It would start the boot process, run for less then 10 seconds, and shut off. I would restart again, it would get about half way through the boot process, and shut down again. Then I would restart, and it would boot up fine, but shut down after a couple of hours.

I thought it was overheating, so I removed and cleaned the heat sink thoroughly, and made sure the fans are working right. No luck.

Now it gets really weird. I bought a new battery, installed it and let in charge overnight. The next day everything worked perfectly on AC for at least 10 hours, and I shut it down for the day. The following day, after running for several hours on AC, I noticed that the charge light was off, and the battery was discharging again. Shut it down, took the battery out, tried to restart, and had the same three times to a good boot up described above. It ran perfectly without the battery for several hours afterwards. I then reinstalled the battery, and for the moment, it's working fine. But I'm sure this will start again.

Anyone have a clue?

Answer:Weird Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 Power Problem

Yes.

The power adapter sounds as if its on the way out, it's unable to supply the power needed for the laptop for long without cutting out. The charge light going off confirms that suspicion.

After build 7201 was leaked earlier this week, I decided to do a clean install instead of upgrading over my RC 7100, just to be careful.

The clean installation worked fine, but it said my audio driver wasn't compatible with that build. I believe Realtek put out a new driver download before or right around the time build 7100 came out (which it has been working fine for quite some time). So then I did an upgrade just for the hell of it on build 7100 and my driver worked fine.

So how come when I do a clean installation the driver isn't supported (and I don't have the option to download it from Microsoft Updates and/or Realtek), but when I upgrade it's completely fine???
anyone else ever experienced this or figured this out?

I hope someone can help me with this weird problem
My laptop is Satellite U405-S2833 with 1.2 GB Core 2 duo.

It came with a Vista home premium operating system, but I later added XP professional to it (Dual booting)
About 10 months ago, the touchpad as well as the 3 USB ports stopped functioning. Two of the ports will not recognize peripherals, but could power the items, while the third was totally redundant. Since then, I have been using an express card USB adapter for attaching an external mouse and other peripherals. The problems were occurring in both operating systems.
Laptop technicians have had a look at it to no avail.

Here comes the weird part: On occasions when I had to repair or install windows, the pad works perfectly, only to stop working after windows has fully installed.

NB: I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (4.0). Windows 7 RC also exhibited the same problem

Look at Tempro latest news. Their is a link you must look for your model. Is the model not listed so you can?t upgrade to windows 10. It is listed so look for drivers on the page.
I have tryed it with not listed model, but the displaydriver doesn?t work in windows 10. Toshiba shoud upgrade the displaydriver for the Satellite L850 series so the models works under win10.

Hi all,

First off, thanks for all the help in advance; I'm a Mac native and my girlfriend's PC is making me endlessly frustrated (haven't used the OS in years).

Here's the backstory: My girlfriend's laptop went in for a repair regarding her battery; somehow the idiot at the computer store managed to destroy her hard drive in the process. So, instead of paying the $250 it would've cost to install a new hard drive, I bought one myself and put it in. That's all fine and dandy. I downloaded Windows to a disk, booted it up and did a fresh install of Windows 7. It works great except that I'm missing a few drivers. This is where I get stuck.

I ran a missing drivers detection software which shows me that I'm a missing the following:Network Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller
Unknown Device
USB2.0-CRW

All of these missing drivers are preventing me from connecting to the Internet.

Likewise, I noticed her screen resolution is stretched and large. Not sure how to fix that, but I presume it's related to the missing drivers.

I guess my questions are: a) did I complete the Windows 7 install properly or did I miss some sort of vital step that is causing all this? b) If I did all this correctly, where can I locate the drivers?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L735 Clean Win7 Install Drivers

Do you have a set of recovery discs that came with the laptop originally? They should install to a new HDD.

If you have any CDs that came with the laptop, look for one of them containing the drivers for your system. Often the driver disks have a utility on them which when executed will either search your system and select the drivers that need to be installed or just list the drivers available for install.

The key ones you need first are the Ethernet driver or wifi driver so you can get onto the Internet.

Alternatively, from another system connected to the Internet, head over to the Toshiba web site and put your model details in the system finder and it should take you to where the drivers can be downloaded. Save th downloaded files/drivers and you should be able to transfer them across to your system and install them.

That may not give you everything in the one hit but I think is the best option available to you given your situation.

If that sounds too messy, then perhaps you could request a set of Installation Recovery Discs from Toshiba. They would likely cost some $s but may be a less painful option.

Make sure you select/install the 64-bit capable drivers.

Good luck with it.

Start over and follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7. It compiles everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've directly helped with here since beta, and has been used by over a million people without a single complaint.

In particular delete all partitions during the booted install to clear the partition table, pay close attention to how drivers are handled best in Win7, and how to determine which enabling software is needed to be added back from the Toshiba Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba P500-01G (http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/p500/pspgsa-01g003/overview) currently running the bundled Windows 7 Home Premium in 64-bit. I bought an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate but can't use it, it just tells me to use Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I can however use it for a clean installation, and I intend to, but I'm not sure what to do about the Toshiba software (http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/satellite/p500/pspgsa-01g003/download?os=25).
I read on another thread that the software needs to be installed in a certain order and frankly I have no idea! I don't want to break something! I'm not asking for an exact listing for all of them (unless you have the time) but just a general guide as to what types I should install in order.

Also, I assume my recovery partition will be erased in the process and that I cannot get it back. Is this true?

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it,
Abraham.

Answer:Satellite P500-01G - Installing Toshiba software after clean install

Hello Abraham

I?m owner of Satellite P500 too and it is really great machine, isn?t it? I love it. My best Toshiba ever.
On my machine is preinstalled original Toshiba recovery image and it works without any problems so I don?t want to change anything.

Back to your question. I presume you have some reasons why do you want to use Ultimate version so you should try to make clean OS installation. Before you do anything create recovery DVD. Make two copies.
After doing this you can do with your notebook whatever you wont because if you want to have ?factory settings? again you can use created recovery disc and install original recovery image.
After own OS installation saved recovery image will be useless and you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation so please create recovery DVDs.

Win7 installation? I have European model and I will send you exact install order list. Maybe there are small differences comparing it to AU model but the principle is the same.

I?m trying to clean install Windows 10 in UEFI mode on a Toshiba Satellite C75A ? it?s my old (4-5 yrs) laptop, want to use it as a backup as its still of a reasonable specification and performance. Originally it came with Win 8, then upgraded to 8.1 then 10, all in UEFI mode

The problem is I can?t install in UEFI mode, only CSM.

The Win 10 install always hangs at the ?Copying Windows files? stage, at 0%, even after waiting for 1 hour+

I?ve tried all of the following:
Installing from DVD and USB
Installing from a separate 20GB partition at the end of the target disk (NTFS and FAT32) containing the installation files
Prepartitioning a GPT disk using Diskpart + script see
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pre...5686(v=win.10)

Letting Win 10 installation carry out the partitioning
BIOS in UEFI mode, secure boot both on and off

I've attached the setupact.log file if it helps

Hi guys, I bought a Toshiba Satellite a305 s6916 laptop a couple months ago for $450 as an open demo item and it did not come with recovery discs. However, it did come with windows 7 upgrade disks. (originally had Vista Home Premium 64 bit.) I was having trouble with the drivers so i upgraded to windows 7 and it fixed it.

Anyways, my home desktop just completely broke, (software wise im guessing) and my dad took it to best buy. I was wondering how to do a clean install on my laptop and get rid of everything if I ever have any problems. Im not sure if this laptop has a hidden partition or not, and was wondering how to reformat the laptop if needed.

I don't want to go out and buy windows 7 os disk. No $$$!!!

Thanks guys!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite a305 s6916 Windows 7 Clean Install

Hi,

See: Clean install Windows 7 with upgrade media.

It's a simple matter of booting into the upgrade disc, selecting 'Custom install', deleting / creating / formatting partition(s) when prompted and then installing Windows 7. You can then activate Windows 7 using the product key once in the desktop.

Since your system qualifies for a Windows 7 upgrade, this method is legally permitted.

This laptop running WindowsXP was given to me to see if I could fix it. I assume it has malware because kids used it and I don't think they were very careful. When I first tried to boot it I could get to where I have the option of going to Setup, or selecting a boot device. I set the boot device to the cd drive and made an Ultimate Boot CD in another computer to try. The ubcd was used to boot another computer so I know it works. The Toshiba would not boot from the CD and now when it gets to the option to go to Setup, or Select a boot device it shuts down after about 3 or 4 seconds.

I doubt that they have any backup disks or restore disks for it.

Is there any hope for it at this point. I'm not going to put any money into it myself. I don't see any way to boot it up to do anything anymore.

TIA,

Jim

Answer:Toshiba Satellite bios quits

I am back where I started when I first got the laptop and forgot to mention. The first message I get when I try to boot it is that there is:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Then it says if I have the original Setup CD I could try doing a repair. But I don't have that. I did try my WindowsXP cd from another computer and it wouldn't boot the laptop.

Hello all,

I've bought recently a toshiba satellite c70-c-199 (product code pscsle-003004g5)and updated it to windows 10. Now it is like a black brick after installing updates with toshiba service utility. The symptoms are like I need bios recovery. There is no info on toshiba website about my situation. Also there is no bios download for my model.

It's not easy to go to toshiba service. I am far far away from it. About 5 hour by plane and thousand dollars. So, I want to try recover bios by crisis recovery from usb or cd.

My question is: could you please help me with this?

I don't know what type of bios in toshiba satellite c70-c-199 (product code pscsle-003004g5) . Phoenix bios, Insyde bios or other? And version?

Could you please send me bios backup file from your satellite c70-c-199?

Is there a crisis bios recovery in toshiba satellite c70-c-199? How it works?

Hope you help me. There is not much people with this toshiba notebook model.

Thank you for your help.

I took apart the laptop and I have the motherboard laying out in front of me. I think I have located the bios battery (looks like a watch battery next to FirstBios Notebook Pro C2) I see it has a plus side which runs underneath the battery and a negative side which is connected to the top of the battery. There is no wiring on this so I am pretty sure i need to short circuit the battery in order to reset the bios. Do I just have to connect the plus side to the negative side? or is there anything else.

Converted a Toshiba a305-s6905 laptop from vista to XP pro.
Got all the drivers installed working like a champ, Toshiba indicated there was a bios update form 1.80 to 2.20
So i ran it, seemed to go fine, then it rebooted, windows splash screen appears momentarily then a quick BSOD that i cannot read, then back to toshiba start screen.

It will continue that cycle if i let it.

Hello everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6114 running XP. For the year that I've had it it has run great.  As of lately I haven't been able to use a CD in the DVD-R drive.  The CD tray opens, I put a CD into it, it tries to read it( I see the light turn on and hear the cd spin) but it just stops and won't recognize it.  I try to open it in "My Computer" but it just prompts me to insert a cd into the drive.  I don't know what happened in the past month to make this happen.  The catch is this.....  It will play a DVD just fine.  It recognizes it and plays it right away.  I updated the driver and even deleted the driver and started fresh.  Nothing worked. Has anyone ever heard of this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

I have a Toshiba satellite s855-044 and am having issues with the power. I have looked up on countless forums and have been able to find people with similar issues but not the same. Basically the issue is that it will not turn on sometimes and wont show any symptoms of having power. Here is what i know about it:
1. The issue only comes up when i power off the laptop while it is unplugged.
2. None of the power indicators on the front light up, however when you look at it in a pitch black room it is VERY faintly blinking (indicator for when it is plugged in)
3. It turns back on usually after 10 or so hours of messing around with it. (Pulling plug out and putting it back in. Checking connections inside, etc.)
4. I have 2 batteries as well as 2 power adapters (chargers), trying different combinations of them do not seem to make a difference.
5. I have tried the method of unplugging and removing battery and holding the power button for around a minute, no results from that method.

If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello.

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW with BIOS 3.5 version. Can I make upgrade it to 1.7 version which i will download from Toshiba site?
Whay i want to do this?
Because I have a lot of problems with this notebook. For example:

1) Slow system loading on Compatibility mode
2) When I will set AHCI mode and install SATA drivers then loading is faster but I have problems with Critical Error

I don't know what to do :/ Maybe I have bad drivers (it is not possible because all drivers are from Toshiba site) or maybe I didn't install some drivers (there are a lot of drivers on Toshiba site, I didn't download and install all of them)

Can someone write the list of drivers which i need to install?

Thanks in advane and have a nice day.

Yours,
Tralla

Answer:BIOS Upgrade on Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW

Hello Tralla

As I can see you have already posted one thread with the same question and I am wondering you ask the same again.

You have these ?problems? because you didn?t install WXP properly. If you want to have well preinstalled WXP and use it with full speed use AHCI settings in BIOS and load WXP with all SATA drivers.
After doing this notebook will run fast, you will not have problems and BIOS update must not be done at all.
This theme is discussed very often on this forum and please take a little bit time and check this forum about WXP installation using SATA driver.

We bought our oldest son this: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satel...tBy=bySubmissionDateDescending#R3VT4MY1GTRFQA laptop in December for his birthday. He got it on 12/22 (purchased Cyber Monday from Amazon) and yesterday he told me it was not working. Asking he said it turns on, power light on front and fan comes on but won't boot up past there and nothing displays on the screen. We tried putting in the restore DVD we made when he got it but nothing. It powers on and off with the power button but nothing else. I went to Amazon to check and see about warranty and what my options might be and when I went to the page where I bought the laptop I see there are now about 20 negative reviews by people who recieved a notice from Toshiba to update the BIOS and after the update the laptop is doing what my son's is. Most say that neither Toshiba or Amazon is of any help. So I asked my son if he tried to update the BIOS and he said yes. Now I am wondering if I should try and contact Amazon since I've had the machine under 3 months, Toshiba, or try to repair it on my own or a computer repair place. I am typing this question on a Toshiba laptop purchased 2 years ago that I absolutely love and have never been prompted to update the BIOS. Confused and looking for advice.

A BIOS flash will not wipe the password on a laptop...and may render it un-bootable at all if it's the incorrect flash. For BIOS password recovery on laptops it needs to be taken to a Toshiba Service Center to retrieve/reset the password.Be prepared to show proof of ownership as they will ask for it.

I am looking for BIOS update for Toshiba Satellite a135 s4527 v1.90 date 1/12/2009

Answer:BIOS Toshiba Satellite A135 S4527 ver 1.90

Why? If you have any issues flashing the bios your computer could turn into a paper weight. Flashing the bios is definitely one of the more riskier things to do. Unless there is a specific reason like you got a new cpu and the bios does not recognize it unless it is updated (flashed). It is not a hard process and normally goes just fine, but a power flicker or any issue can really turn the motherboard into a useless board which in terms of laptops is an expensive error. Most issues are related to other issues and are rarely solved by flashing the bios except in specific instances.

A while ago, while my BIOS was updating, my laptop shut off. When I tried to power it back on, I get nothing. The harddrive boots, I get the lights and everything, but absolutely nothing shows up on the screen. The light on the screen doesn't turn on or anything. I was thinking that it might be a BIOS related issue since this happened after my laptop shut down during the update. So would resetting the CMOS or anything like that fix this problem? Or will I have to hot flash the BIOS?

Answer:Resetting the BIOS on a Toshiba Satellite laptop

Hi
if you screwed the BIOS update (never do it from within windows) then the motherboard is screwed and there is nothing you can do to retrieve it (short off soldering a new BIOS chip on that is)

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/satellite/4030-4060-100/bios_820.zip

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.
Thanks.

Bastien.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Answer:Issue with Toshiba Satellite Screen

The LCD screen could have been damaged by placing a heavy object on the top of the closed laptop or by bumping or dropping. It doesn't take much... The LCD panel might be under warranty. Its worth checking into. Otherwise, it is expensive to replace. They cannot be repaired

I have a toshiba Satellite L855-10P and my webcam was working fine until today when, during a skype video conference, it started showing black lines a bit like static and the quality decreased significantly. I used the webcam application to check if it wasn't an internet issue and the same problem occurred.

I restarted the computer and removed the protective plastic from the webcam and nothing changed. It's a brand new laptop, it's only 2 months old. Is there anything I can do to find out the nature of this problem or should I just go ahead and use the warranty?

**Edit: I changed the quality to 1280*700 and the image had great quality but when I changed it to anything lower than that quality the static came back.

Hi,

I've been working on a friends A200-AHC308. It had a few viruses and was currently running XP, so I decided to reformat to XP-SP3. Prior to the reformat I attempted to back up all of his files to a USB flash drive, although the computer had problems recognizing the USB. I figured that the problem may have had something to do with a faulty driver installation so ignored it and continued with the format, having backed up his files on a DVD. After the reformat I am still having the same issue. All drivers are installed properly and nothing in Device Manager is popping up with a question mark. What happens is this: I plug the media in (whether it be an external HDD or a flashdrive) and the computer goes through its device wizard. It does one of two things:
Says the device was installed successfully although when attempting to access it through My Computer the drive does not load (it is present, although when attempting to open it I have no luck).
Says the device is not compatible.

Anyone?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 USB Issue

If you have a second USB flash drive available, plug it into the Toshiba and see if you can read from/write to it.

If you can, it's likely the drive you backed the data up on is either going bad or was corrupted by the virus(es). If this is the case, any attempt at recovering the data should be done with extreme caution. If inserted into and accessed from another PC there is a good chance it will infect it. Go to the virus and malware section of the board for specific scanning and cleaning tips for the drive before you attempt to open or transfer any data from it.

If the second (clean) USB drive doesn't work, reboot the PC with the USB drive removed and try again. If it still fails, go to http://fixitcenter.support.microsoft.com/Portal and download the Beta version of Microsoft's Fix-It Tool. XP SP3 had a few bugs; this tool fixes many of them.

Hope this helps.

My house-mate recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop machine. It appears to have a bit of an issue booting correctly.
On 60-75% of boot attempts the result is an error meesage indicating the driver for the onboard ATI display adapater could not start correctly and that the system will restart. On this second reboot the system invariably starts normally.
Any ideas on what could be the issue? Does this machine require a BIOS update?.. or perhaps it is an issue brought on by the patching of the preinstalled XP home with service pack2.

Any ideas gratefully recieved

Hello everyone. Nowadays, I see on this forum people are discussing about the CD/DVD issues on L30/L300/L350. I would like to share my experience on this issue and hope everyone shares your experience as well.

My laptop are Toshiba L30 PSL33 and Toshiba L300 PSLB2E. I am lucky that I have no problem with CD/DVD discs/drives as I can read/write/play CD/DVD smoothly. However, I used to have some problems with CD/DVD drive on my notebook. Here is my experience.

1) Make sure there is no other CD/DVD softwares on your computer (except the orginal software from Toshiba). Especially to those who have been used to using Nero. If you have problems, try to remove Nero and test with the one supported by Windows

2) If you still have problems, try to update the firmware of the DVD drive. It can be done by visiting the Toshiba Support Driver site (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/). Check what drive you have by looking at the Device Manager. Download the newest firmware from there and update your drive.

3) My last solution. If you have Vista pre-installed, try to get a XP version on your computer and do not install any other software. Test/copy a CD by using windows writing tool to see whether the problem is solved or not.

In my opinion. the main reasons you may encournter are: there are CD/DVD drives have XP firmware base and need to be updated so that they can be used in Vista; or there are software like Nero and PowerDVD are causing the conflict between the ACPI con... Read more

I bought this new, obviously some years ago.
XP Home and all original hardware.
Gave it to my sister about 4 years ago to run to run scientific apps that won't run on anything newer than XP.
In her possession, It was not used on a network---no internet at all.

It's screen went blank but the lights on the front of the case showed it loading/booting up.
So I attached it to an old CRT monitor. As the computer booted the screen filled with a few hundred colored vertical lines but finalized with the regular background, but no icons or start menu. Right clicking on it did nothing.

So I booted to an Acronis Boot disk and installed a known drive image I made 4 years ago that I knew was good. Same issue.

I then installed the factory image from my Toshiba Install disk and, with the CRT attached, it boots up normally with no apparent issues.

I still need to check the wiring connections of the laptop monitor but at least it's still useful with the external monitor.

I'd like to hand this back to my sister with confidence as she uses it at home to do scientific data analysis for her employer.
Any thoughts on what this issue might be, have been?
SysInfo to follow.

2nd. when the screen does work, the laptop gets stuck at the motherboard logo screen and does not move from there.....unless..... you hit it.

whats wrong with the dumb thing? anybody help?

oh and like the thing is, it does function, the screen does turn on and the motherboard logo screen does change but u have to really hit it a few times..... other wise it freezes or the screen wont turn on.... ive ran linux off of a live cd on it so i know for a fact im right.

Answer:Toshiba satellite m40 huge issue

It is time to have the laptop serviced by a qualified technician, or to buy a new laptop. If you are familiar with removing memory or hard drive, you can try reseating them. The video cable from the LCD panel to the motherboard may be pinched or loose

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

So, the problem started when my dad told me various recharge lights would not come one. Low and behold after opening it up I noticed the Power Pin within the DC housing was not there, in fact it dropped directly into my hand while I was opening it... So after a great deal of experimentation in trying to fix it... I have given up, if I jiggle it for a little while the lights will come on for a second... Please look at diagram for what I believe is accurate~

The connector just behind the housing... is that a ground? my limited knowledge on, on-board circuitry prevents me from repairing this myself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 DC Issue

if you can visually seek the break, then you know where it should connect in order to repair it. You need not know the polarity. But I don't recommend repairing this yourself unless you are good with a soldering iron. Take it to a shop.

With my new network now up and running, and all devices talking to each other as they should, I probed about in the (VM supplied) Netgear Superhubs settings and discovered I can change the frequency from 2.4 to 5gz which gets me away from local interference.
My iMac, Ipad iPhone and ATV work perfectly with the setting at 5, but laptop flatly refuses to even see the network. I have a new Draytek wireless router being delivered this week and would like to use the higher setting for all devices without having to go into the admin screen and change back to 2.4 when using the lappy.
Anyone had this issue, or suggest a workaround?

Hi

I'm having trouble flashing my bios.
I have a Satellite Pro L40-15A.

The Toshiba winflash tool that comes with the bios file tells me that the 'Old BIOS can't recognise EEPROM'

I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum but that tells me the bios has an invalid boot block.

AMI flas for dos tells me the flash rom is write-protected??? There is no option in bios to disable it and I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.

Please help

Thx

Dear Bruce

Can you please tell me what you want to do and please explain to us your steps to update BIOS on your Satellite Pro notebook?

I have done BIOS update over 20 times last month and I am really wondering what you want to say with terms like EEPROM or AFUDOS. Which BIOS update version you want to use? I presume 5.10. am I right?

The BIOS password cannot be removed easily due to security reasons.

You will need to send the notebook to an Authorized Service Provider who use special tools to reset the password.

Hi All,
I tried flashing my BIOS through windows as recommended on my Laptop Manufacturer (Toshiba) website. I guess the process went wrong as after 2 hours still the message "Do not interrupt" was getting displayed. I had to force power off my PC. Now it is not booting up.
The Laptio is Toshiba SA50-114, Satellite series.Model No - PSA50E-06V053EN.

I have tried suggestions in following link
askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1169474xml&sliceId=&dialogID=28948623&stateId=0%200%2035586212
However, this did not work.

I would like to try suggestions in
devhacks.com/bios-update-failed-heres-what-you-do
However, I don't have the recovery disk tool and BIOS/ROM file. Have tried searching on internet, but with no results.

Can someone please help me with
1. How can I perform the BIOS update to get my PC running back.

2. Point me to links where I can find the files in the abov link.

Many Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Parag

You may be out of luck here... They don't give serious warnings for flashing the bios for nothing... You might have to replace the motherboard. It is that serious

Hi

I have had my Toshiba Satellite Pro P200D-10P for 3 years now and have had a recurring problem. If I shut it down for any reason I then cannot reboot it thereafter, sometimes for several hours and at worst for several days. In BIOS, under 'Main' it has 'None' under the 'Hard Disk' title. If I try and boot it up I get the error; 'For Realtek RTL8100E/8101E Fast Ethernet Network Adapter v1.02 (060529). PXE-E61: 'Media test failure, check cable. PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.' I assume this is due to no hard drive being found in the boot sequence and LAN being used.

I have updated the version of BIOS to v1.07 and have tried removing each of the 1GB RAM to check if its due to bad RAM but that has not helped the issue.

I have removed and replaced the hard drive to ensure it is seated properly but that has not improved the problem.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give.

Thank you.

I cannot get my Toshiba laptop (model 1805) to boot up. It was working OK, then went south. I cannot boot up... it doesn't even attempt to start. I had done a recovery (I have the CD's) and was updating the system. At one point it told me to insert the operating system disc and boot from it, but I didn't have the original (XP Home Edition), so I inserted XP Professionl. That's when everything really went south. Continuing, I formated the HDD using my good computer and a USB adaptor. Strangely, it only took about 5 seconds, but when I explore it, the only folder showing is "System Volume".

I need to start from scratch but need some guidance in booting up the machine. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Don

Hi,

I tried everything (update BIOS to 1.9, set a jumper as cs, remove DVD-ROM) but without any success (by Windows XP install I see this hard disc, I can format it and the system copy files during install and only on start-up failed).

What's angrier, that this HDD 100% ok and work on Toshiba Portege 3500. I also tried another HDD (IBM 60Gb) in A60 and its work properly. Any ideas or it's just religions thing?

Best regards
Oleg.

Answer:Satellite A60 doesn't detect Toshiba HDD MK4025GAS in BIOS

Hello oleg

This HDD is listed as compatible for this notebook model and it should works properly.
One thing I cannot understand. In the subject you wrote that A60 cannot detect HDD but if I understand you right you have access to it and you can format the HDD and also start WXP installation.

Can you please be so nice and explain exactly what is the problem with HDD.
Is HDD recognised in BIOS?

I have Toshiba Satellite L50-B for over a year now. I upgraded RAM memory to 8gb and it works great. But last 10 days BIOS date and time keeps restarting to default every time I shut down or hibernate laptop. My battery is dead, but I didn't take out, it charges all the time, and BIOS restart after I disconnect charger from laptop. I think that CMOS battery is dead, but when I open laptop there is no CMOS battery. Someone told me that this model have some kind of flash chip for bios time. How do I fix this?

I have an old Toshiba S2800 (-200 if matters at all). It's been working fine with a 10GB HDD for ages. Yesterday I thought I upgrade its hard drive to a bigger one.
Removed the old one and installed a new Toshiba MK4026GAX hard drive. Upon power on the BIOS did not detect the HDD at all. I can hear the humming noise (platter(s) rotating) but apart from that there's nothing. The BIOS says HDD mode is "not used" and also on page 2 there's no hard drive shown on the Primary IDE channel. (tried to boot Linux from a CD to see if that sees anything on the IDE channel, but apparently the primary IDE channel gets disabled if the BIOS does not detect neither a master nor a slave device connected). Switching the HDD mode from master to slave didn???t change a thing.
The BIOS version is 2.00. Tried to find an older one without any success.

I thought the BIOS has a 32GB limitation but when I connected a 120GB hard drive (WD scorpio), it was recognized by the BIOS and the PC was ready to boot from the device.

I would have thought Toshiba laptops were at least compatible with another Toshiba device (e.g. hard drive)

Anyone has got any idea how to get it working?

Thanks in advance!
Robbie

Answer:Satellite 2800 - BIOS does not recogize Toshiba 40GB HDD

Hi there,

I made the experience that not every drive from a manufacturer must work with a computersystem from the same manufacturer. I have some non-toshiba models which have the same problem, so my conclusion was that I have to accept that fact that not everything is functioning properly how I wish.

I suggest you to return that harddisk to the distributor and to try another one (which is maybe certified to function properly with that machine).

So all this started when I was updating my laptop's bios (which I've done before twice and went smoothly) except for this time.

I downloaded the BIOS update soon after the notebook recommendeds me to do so from official Toshiba website (MEA) after putting it's exact model number and part number as I have done before.

The BIOS version on the notebook was v 1.60 and to be upgraded to v 1.70 the process went smoothly upto the step that it shows it's upgrading insydeH20 firmware with a progress bar in DOS window. After it says BIOS is successfully updated it shut down and all went quiet. But the next time I tried to boot it up the screen came up with nothing (Fans work, Light indicators work). But when I try to open the BIOS menu pressing F2 there is nothing (no beeping too).

After this incident I tried

*Booting up with 1 ram stick only
*Holding down the power button for like a minute
*Taking out and putting back the CMOS battery

....still nothing

Am I screwed up? Or is there anything you guys out there can help with?

I just bought a click mini. I am trying to enter the BIOS.

In the manual and everywhere else I've read, it says to restart or power up pressing FN + F2.

I have tried holding them whilst powering on. I have tried powering on then pressing these. I have tried powering on, holding them for a second then letting them go, exactly as it says in the manual.

Whatever I do, it goes straight passed and into the windows login.

Someone please enlighten me how you're supposed to get into the BIOS.

Cheers
