I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's quite possible sufficient damage was done, either by the plug getting stuck or the work in removing it, that the contacts inside the jack have been forced into cutting the speakers circuits off as happens when plugging into it. From the number of Notebooks I've had to junk and take apart first I'd say the only real solution is a new motherboard or a new Notebook. If it were a Desktop one can disable the onboard audio system and get an Add-in Sound card. Or maybe try the USB type speakers.

The part where you plug the headphones into the tower broke off into the front headphone jack, I then opened up the tower and pushed it out but there is still no sound coming threw the speakers. Now my question is this, regarding the spring, Does it have to be fully extended for the computer not too think anything is in the jack or not? The Spring is still in, but when looking into the hole there is a metal piece that is push over too the left as in the hold is closed, should it be pushed back? (re-bent) or something too that effect.

And if no body knows the answer too this, any way to just disconnect that whole headphone jack to i can have sound threw my speakers again. Running on a Dell Dimension 4600C

thank you

Hello, I have a problem, which many people probably have encountered at some point.

I have this Asus K73SV notebook, but the incident happened - my headphones jack broke and is now stuck inside my notebook. Unfortunately, I can't get it out and my computer still considers that little piece as headphones so my internal speakers makes no sound.

How can I make this work? I have Realtek drivers and I don't have that option where I could disable that jack, doesn't matter which version or from where I download those drivers. And I can only see speakers through my control panel.

I saw there is an option where you can use ForceDisableJD in registry, but there is no such option in my registries.
What should I do? I tried to fix this for the whole day and I'm completely lost.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry for bad english.

Answer:Broken headphone jack stuck, how to play through speakers?

Try a magnet to see if you can get the broken plug out. You can also try to super glue something to the plug and see if you can pull it out.

I have had my computer, an Acer, for 6 months now. Today the speakers won't work. When I go to device managers it reads that the system is working properly; it also reads that the speakers are working properly.
I have tried updating Realtek, but there are no recent updates. I also tried disabling and enabling realtek, but that did not work. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Please Help. Speakers and headphone jack won't work.

Try reinstalling the audio drivers.

Monitor w/ built in speakers is an HP f2105.

Windows 7 32bit

I turned my computer off for a week. The first time it's ever been off in 5 years. It has an onboard Realtek soundcard. It worked perfectly before leaving for vacation. I come back and there is no sound. Headphones work and the speakers work when plugged into the front panel headphone jack.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and making Onboard Sound Card "Enabled" in BIOS. Is it likely that the onboard sound just stopped working while being shut off or is there another underlying issue?

Answer:Speakers only work plugged into headphone jack

Will the headphones work when plugged into the back panel (green jack)?

I have a studio xps 16 running vista 64-bit service pack 2. the other day i was on skype and skype mutes all other audio on the computer when on. i ended up uninstalling skype and my built in webcam because i read that together they sometimes screw up audio. so the next day i tried to listen to music, no luck. I ran a diagnostics and when it got to the colored bars and asked if i heard a beep I HEARD THE BEEP so that means the problem is a system problem and not a screwed up sound card. (i think) anyway i updated all of the drivers, the device manager has no ? marks. i talked to dell and the found a virus that MAY have been eating away at my registry. i got rid of that and still no audio. i didnt really wanna touch the regedit because im nervous cuz u can really f up a computer if your not sure what your doing. i also did a system reboot to about a week before it happened with no luck. by the way, under the device manager it says> Sound, video and game cotrollers and then my options are> ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01 and> IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

So any ideas guys? i dont wanna re-download the os and start over so what now??

Hi,

I am using a HP envy x2 nootbook and running windows 8.1 x64 bit op. system. I just reinstalled windows and since then the headphone jack's are not working. Nor the one on the keybord part and nor the one on the tablet one. I used headphones with 4-conductor connector like my Iphone 6S headphone jack. As I assume my divice manager does not note anything wrong. Could it be a driver problem? Or a hadrver problem?

recently bought a Dell latitude E6420 i5-2520M 8GB and I am experiencing a very annoying issue with the speakers.
The sound coming from the speakers worked until I plugged in the headphones jack into the computer for the first time - when I unplugged the headphones internal speakers stop to work completely.
What I have tried so far with no success:

Uninstall and reinstall windows audio/sound drivers
Tried Realtek drivers
Disabled headphones
Recovery and reinstall Windows 10

What is strange is that every time I uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers the speakers start to work again until i plug the jack of the headphones and again speakers stop to work. Any Idea?
Please let me know what you need to know about my computer to better understand the problem and I will amend the question accordingly.
Thanks!

I have a Lenovo w540, latest bios firmware, and windows 7 64bit. I also have the docking station. The headhpnes will not work on the laptops headphone jack, nor the docking stations headphone jack. I have tried 3 different sets of headphones that *all* work on my phone. What gives? Is there a setting somewhere I need to check?

My laptop is hooked up to a monitor and keyboard/mouse that sits in a space below my monitor. If I have head phones on and use the laptop as normal(nothing hooked up, laptop open etc) then the jack works fine. But as soon as i close the lid and hook it up to my monitor/keyboard/mouse the headphones cut off and the laptop speakers turn on even though it's closed. Any ideas?

Whenever I plug in my headphones into the jack, I no longer get a notification telling me my headphones are plugged in and Audio comes out of both the Headphones and the laptop speakers. This happend recently and didn't happen before. I have tried multiple headphones, all to the same effect. I am thinking this is a hardware issue. Does anybody have any solutions to fix?

Answer:Both Speakers and Headphone play sound when headphone is plugged into Jack

Dear AlvinLee

Welcome in lenovo community

Method A:
1.  Go to the Control Panel by right click the bottom left corner in "Desktop" mode.
2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
3.  Set the headphone as communication device (see image below).

Also please let me know if you can hear also the sound from the headphone itself

Thanks
Alaa

Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!
Sebastian

Answer:headphone jack broken off in headphone plug in

TOMMYSS,
If you purchased complete care from Dell you can call into Dell Alienware Support at 1 (877) 330-9732. If you did not you can possibly take it back to the store you purchased it from to see if they can help you. You can also try removing it yourself. Just make sure that it is unplugged before attempting to remove it.

Assuming it isnt under warranty your best bet is to take it to a pro especially if it is a laptop.

There is a workaround. You could get a USB headset, or a mini din to USB converter.

I have an HP ze4145 (Laptop) and my headphone jack after 2 years has broken on me. Before it completely broke I would have to move the plug around inside the jack to try and get the right connection. Now that im completely missing a headphone jack I have two questions. First, is there any way i can disable the jack and force all of the audio to come out of my laptop speakers? and Second, Would i be able to buy a new jack or soundcard and how much would it cost on average? Thank you to anyone who can help.

I'm always using headphones while on my computer.  Earlier today, my headphone jack no longer works.  Even when the headphones are plugged in, audio only comes out of the speakers.  At first I thought it was an audio driver problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.  It still wasn't working on my Windows 7 drive.  So I then swapped in my XP drive and the audio still wasn't working.  It won't work on my Ubuntu drive either.  I blew some compressed air into the jack but it didn't fix the problem.  Obviously it's an internal hardware problem.  I'm out of my warranty (bought in June 2009, only got a 1-year warranty).  I'm a college student and this is my only computer.  How much will it cost for my laptop to get fixed?  Is it possible for me to make the repair by myself?  Please help.  I'm very distraught.

Hi. After some advice please. I have a broken headphone jack stuck in the desktop port. I need some advice on how to remove the broken jack or replace the port. If this is not possible how I can disable the headphone jack to restore external sound to the PC? Had a local chap look at it and said that the jack cannot be removed and to fix it would require a part that he cannot source as part of the motherboard?

I broke my headphone jack last night. I dropped my Y510p while the auxillary chord was still plugged in. A small chunk of plastic and metal fell out the end of the headphone jack. Now my sound isn't working properly. Sound plays from the computer speakers when my headphones/aux chord are plugged in. I have about half the volume I usually do in my headphones/aux chord.  Ideally I would like to replace the headphone jack if possible. I've had this computer for a while and I don't think my warranty would cover it. I would ask Lenovo Support but the webpage seems to not be working. If I can't fix it properly for a reasonable price I will buy a usb sound adapter for it. Does anyone have any experience in this or have any advice for replacing a headphone jack????

So after 3 years my laptop finally started to show it's age. My headphone jack broke down. Only one headphone is working. No, it's not a headphone issue and neither a OS issue (I checked with other pairs and on Ubuntu). I disassembled the laptop and everything seemed fine, but I guess I gotta change that port to fix everything. Sadly, I couldn't find any original components, but only second hand from other generations. Do you think these one would be able to replace the one I had? (Lenovo G50-30) (Lenovo IdeaPad Z510)

Hi, I was just wondering if the Y580 is capable of playing through the headphone jack and the speakers? I tried enabling the stereo mix option in the recording devices and setting it so you can listen it. I tried both options in using the playback through the audio output and the speakers but it seems like when i set it to the default device it creates feed back and its just a mash of sounds. But when i set it to the device that's not the default it does nothing. Anyone have a solution to this?

I want to get my MP3 player running through my CD player's speakers. Can anyone help?

Answer:Headphone jack to stereo speakers

Are you talking about a "boom box" type cd player? If so, your stereo needs to have some type of aux input. You can use the headphone jack of the mp3 player as an output but keep the volume low. Inputs are normally line level so they don't need a lot of power sent to them to amplify the music. Infact, sending too much of a signal into an input can damage a stereo. try to balance it so the volume you here from a cd and the mp3 player are the same. .1 watt is enough for the line level input.

This is a problem that has happened twice before. At first I thought it was a fluke, but now I'm very concerned. Restarting my computer, or trying to go back to recovery a week ago has worked, but I don't know what's causing the problem. I get no sound whatsoever from any app, player, window, etc. I just downloaded the latest audio driver, but that did nothing.

Answer:No sound from speakers or headphone jack

if recovering via restarting or recovering the system helps then its for sure not a hardware issue. Any application which you installed could have cause this issue? What machine are you on btw?

I have this Compaq Presario A900, i bought it just under a year ago. Approx March/April last year.

Recently the headphone socket/jack whatever you call it has been playing up.
It has always done it but not caused as much problems as it does now.

It used to just make a fuzzy noise if I moved the headphones around in the socket (like twirled it). Now, if I do it or even touch the headphone a bit it immediately turns to speakers and its like as if the headphones were disconnected.

Does anyone have any clue how I could like reattach it more or tighten it or something? It's annoying me since I don't have money to get it repaired and I love music.

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong place or if I've typed it wrong. I'm new.

Answer:Headphone socket/jack broken/loose

I'd say its probably broke inside the laptop. If its still under a year, that should be under warranty. Send it in to HP for repair.

I use headphones for medical transcription. Today, they fell off the table after I took them off, and pulled at the headphone jack. Now, I can only hear sound from the headphones, but not from the laptop speakers. Is there a way to take apart the laptop in order to see if the headphone jack is cracked, or if it moved? If I plug in the headphone jack and jiggle it I can get sound from my laptop speakers, but once I take the headphone connector out of the jack, all sound is gone again from the laptop speakers. My laptop is still under warranty, but we don't want to send it out for repair unless it is absolutely necessary. Please help us -we would like to be able to fix this problem ourselves as money is short, and I need the laptop to be here so I can do my medical transcription. Thanks!

Hi,

Through obvious neglect I have broken the plastic headphone hack on the front of my A100 till still accept a jack but is barely staying in there.

Anyone know if its easily replaced by myself with a soldering gun and the part? How is it connected to the board?

thanks

Answer:Satellite A100 - Broken headphone jack

Hi!

Normally the headphone jack is soldered/fixed on the mainboard and that means you have replace the whole mainboard. Furthermore the notebook must be disassembled complete and this is a little bit tricky.

In your case I would go to an authorized service provider. Speak with the technician and then you will see what they can do for you and how much it costs. I think this would be the best option.

Bye

Hi, I've got a pc on which the headphone jack is broken. Trying a usb sound card - looks like a dongle-y thing which sticks in a usb port and has a mic and a headphone jack on it. When plugged in it has a red light which flashes - maybe meaning it's connected? - but when I plug headphones in to it i get no sound. Sorry but I know little about this area. Maybe I need to go into some sort of control panel to tell the system to send sound this way? Any advice would be great. TIA - Terry

I have a ASUS laptop running win 7 64 bit. out of the blue the sound stopped working. no sound will come from the internal speakers, though sound is being registered in the various volume control screens. If i plug speakers into my headphone input, the sound comes out. IVe tried all the various volume/sound settings (the obvious fixes) with no luck. can someone suggest some other possibilities that might cause this problem?

Thanks so much for your time.

Answer:Got sound from my headphone jack abut nothing from speakers

These systems are auto sensing what is plugged in. You can try reinstalling the sound driver as one thing. Another is a "recycle" of the device - go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the device and then LEFT click "Uninstall" - DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the device. If the status with Windows was corrupt this will fix that.

Where I work, the IT department made the mistake of purchasing computers with built-in speakers. We do not want the speakers to function at all, only any sound put through the headphone jack. After disabling the speakers, we found that YouTube no longer works, which is a problem.

That said, is there a way to permanently disable the speakers, leave the headset jack enabled and still allow YouTube to continue playing videos even if a headset is not plugged in?

Answer:Disable speakers and keep headphone jack enabled?

I'm not sure if this will do what you want, but type sound into the search bar, click on change sound card settings, right click the speakers and select disable, then select the headphones and at the bottom click Default. That should disable the speakers and use the headphones for all sounds.

Hello all,
New to the board here, and want to say hi
I'm hoping to get some help, I'm pretty good at trouble shooting problems with my comp. but I'm stumped on this one. I've rebooted, checked all volume levels, ran the sound test and sound comes from both speakers as well as the headphones, all drivers are up to date, and there are no yellow exclamation points on speakers or sounds. I have music playing on my windows media player and nothing, you tube ...no sounds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You...

Answer:[SOLVED] No sound from speakers or headphone jack

Hi -

Go into Device manager and un-install all devices under the sound tree. Then re-boot.
START | devmgmt.msc

Vista will re-install upon boot-up & logon. Test audio - any difference?

I was wondering if I could direct my microphone input strait to my headphone jack so the sound input could be heard on headphones. Also, could I disable the feature that turns off my built-in speakers when I plug in headphones. I have a hp pavilion dv9000 with vista installed. any help?

Answer:Solved: microphone to headphone jack and speakers

I use an external mixer for this kind of thing- that way I can not only use the headphones to monitor the inputs, but my mixer allows me to select one input among many while not disturbing the mix.

Even an inexpensive mixer will have multiple mic or high level inputs and many will have the ability to add reverb or other effects. They can also feed one or more computers for recording (and/or backup of main recording).

Hi.

I've recently bought a laptop online with no OS installed on it. I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and downloaded all drivers from the manufactures website. Everything works fine except there is no audio coming through the headphone jack or built-in speakers. I have spent majority of today looking online for answers on how to fix this issue and have found nothing that works.

The laptop model is a HP Pavillion dv6-1007tx.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: When I plug in a HDMI cable to the laptop, sound comes through my TV.

Hi, you could download the maintenance and service guide from HP.com to see if the connector is mounted to the mainboard and if it would be a difficult repair.  If so, you might use something like the Sabrent USB audio adapter as a workaround.  I have one and it works well.

My laptop speakers eventually stopped working after I accidentally violently yanked out my headphone plug from the jack.I could ignore that because I usually just use headphones anyway, later down the road however, I found my speaker jack so messed up internally(without needing to take a peek at it) that it makes my speakers LOUDLY  either beep screech shriek or buzz, and this is not a system beep that is quiet but noticeable this is a full on messed up audio problem, when I actually have audio playing (not just the internal fan SOMEHOW coming up in the audio stream, *censored* manufacturers and their laziness.) the audio plays distorted while buzzing etc, should I just open up the laptop and bend it back into place so it does not cause problems, or should I just rip it out? I could rip it out because I have already ordered an USB sound card with headphone/mic jack, but that wont fix the problem, the bigger problem this cause is that my laptop freezes as a result of whenever it happens

- uninstall the current sound driver for your unit
- let windows install its generic driver.
- test the speakers again

also could you test those speakers on another device too ?

I usually listen to music with speakers through the headphone jack. When I unplug the speakers, the music plays through the stock laptop speakers like it is supposed to do.

However, all of a sudden, the sound has only worked through these external speakers. It plays fine through the headphone jack, but when I unplug the speakers, the laptop speakers do not work.

I have restored the computer to an earlier point that I know they were working, but still nothing.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1705.

Any help would be appreciated.

There`s no point trying to mess with the mic plug.Even if you could

I was able to find this nifty Knowledgebase article that gave some insight on how to fix your issue. It looks like an audio setting needs to be adusted:

1.  Go to the Control Panel.
2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
3.  Click Advanced Device Settings.
4.  Click Multi-stream mode.

Like the headline says, I have a problem with sound on my Toshiba laptop (model is Satellite L755-S5110). Sound just randomly switches to headphones, even though they aren't connected. The sound just stops playing from the speakers, and when I plug in headphones, it plays normaly through headphones, and works fine while using them, but when I unplug headphones, the sound then plays from speakers for some time and then again just stops on its own and if I plug headphones again, it plays through them.
First, I thought it was some driver issue with win 10, so I did clean install of windows 7 (it was first installed when I bought my laptop), then again installed all the required drivers from the toshiba site (I checked in the device manager couple of times if all audio drivers were up to date, tried reinstalling/installing again), and the exact same problem remained. I also tried reinstalling audio driver provided from toshiba site, and used microsoft audio driver, and again the same problem.
Also, for example, when the sound stops playing from speakers, i just open Playback devices (where my default speakers device is listed), and the sound starts playing again through speakers (didnt change anything there, just opened it...)
I'd really appreciate if someone could help me with this issue, since I've already tried everything I could think of, and none worked yet.
I'm also not really good with computers, so if you have any possible solutions, please let the instructions be... Read more

Asus M4A78-EM motherboard using Realtek drivers from Asus site.

The front headphone jack did not work until I installed the Realtek drivers from the Asus site.

Actually they didnt work until I checked on Disable Front Panel Detection. That got it going but the rear speakers are still playing.

Mute the Rear Output Device When Front Input Is Plugged In is checked on.

From what I've read this is simply a result of having the front audio panel set up as AC97 instead of HDA. 5 wires versus 7(or is it 9)

I'll include some pics. First one is how the wires are currently configured and the second is a page from the manual.

ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting

With 2 extra pins on the left end of the front audio board not being used I'm wondering what they might be for? Are they not used or would running 2 wires from those pins to the Presence and Sense_send connectors on the audio header on the mb do anything.

Or are there an extra 4 wires used on an HDA front panel? Presence, Sense_send, Sense1_Retur and Sense2_Retur.

TIA

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so please feel free to re-direct if necessary.

I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite A665-S9092 laptop that just started exhibiting a weird problem: I get an occasional crackling, popping sound from whatever I plug into the headphone jack. I've tried with my Bose speakers and two separate sets of headphones. It seems to occur whenever the hard drive is accessed: when the computer is idle, I don't hear a peep, but whenever I e.g. refresh my browser or open a program, it starts crackling. The odd thing is that I don't get this from the built-in laptop speakers - only from whatever I plug into the headphone jack.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? One of the main uses of this machine is playing music so this problem is putting a serious crimp in my enjoyment...

(Extra info: under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" in the Device Manager I have 4 instances of nVidia High Definition Audio, and 1 instance of Realtek High Definition Audio. Checking "driver update" tells me the drivers are up to date. Not sure why there are 4 instances of the nVidia HD Audio.)

This doesn't always happen, but I've noticed a few times on my T440p that when I have headphones plugged in, sounds comes out of the speakers. The headphones are functional and fully plugged in, yet no sound comes out of them, and the sound comes out of the speakers. I've fixed this multiple times by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you been able to fix it? The reason it is a problem for me is that it distracts those working around me. Thanks. (my problem differs from this one, where sounds comes from both the headphones and speakers)

Look for a multistream option in the Realtek audio control panel. Make sure it's set to unify headphones and speakers.Alternatively, if you want audio to only come out of the headphones and not switch dynamically, go to the Sound control panel in Windows, and set headphones as default.

Recently, while playing unreal tournament, I realize there was no sound coming out of the speaker once I unplugged my headphones. I restarted thinking that it would fix the problem, but that didn't help, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the sound driver from realtek, no good either. Finally I deicided to reformat my computer using the recovery partition. Reassuring myself that this will definitely solve the problem I was shock and confuse as to why no sound came out of the speaker after the recovery. After going to the Realtek sound control panel I realize that the computer thinks or detected that a headphone was plugged in when clearly it wasn't. The sound does work with the headphone in and I am sure the speaker is not damaged because the POST sound, "boommmmm", comes during bootup. I really don't understand what is going on, and I already reformatted the harddrive 2 times.

I have read that the problem can be temporarily solve by replacing the motherboard, but after about a week or two, the same problem will arise. I have also read that other brands including HP, DELL and Sony has similar problems.

I can live without the speakers but I am not sure if further problems will persist with this laptop, since its only been month that I have purchased it.

Thanks for many reply/help.

Speakers plugged into power outlet and on
Speakers plugged into back jack securely
(actually if you heard the startup booom sound, then they must be)

Sound volume up on speaker
Sound volume up on Windows
Sound volume up in the game that you are using
(That might be it)

If you play a song (through Windows media player) can you hear it ?
If so this must be an in game setting (ie mute sound) Please check all settings in the game.

I recently did a big update, which involved updating the BIOS (from version 1.91 to 1.93). Since then the speakers on the tablet, and headphones when attached, no longer produce sound. Sound works okay from the keyboard speakers. I've tried updating the driver (intel smart sound technology), as well as rolling back, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Nothing has worked so far. My best guess is that the BIOS update is responsible, since the tablet speakers and headphones also no longer work in linux, but did before the update. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for a fix to try before downgrading the bios would be highly appreciated.

Hey everybody,

I bought the headsets. They've got a microphone as well.

Now I've got three ports: pink, green and this colorless one.

My regular speakers go in the colorless port, while the headphone microphone goes into the pink one and the headset speakers.

The thing is speakers on the headsets, as well as my regular speakers worked, but the microphone on the headsets didn't, so I tried to fix the problem, and eventually did, that is the microphone works, but the speakers on the headsets don't !

However, by inserting the headphone's speakers into the colorless port (where my regular speakers are put), in that case the headphones work, but why don't they work when I pluck them in the green port? Previously, when the microphone didn't work, the headphone's speakers worked, but after I 'fixed' the microphone problem, the headphone's speakers stopped working.

Please help me, as this is of great importance, and I've been trying to fix this problem for several hours.

Answer:Headphone mic didn't work - now it does, but headphone speakers don't

That colorless port might be for input devices, that does not include headphones. I had the same problem with my audigy 2 zs, had to plug my headset into a speaker port, its really the only way to get them to work, unless you have front panel ports for headphones.

Hi everyone,

I have a brand new Toshiba Portege R705-P35 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; I got it just over a week ago. The last couple days, I have been noticing that my headphones are getting intermittant connections. I have a pair of Grado SR80I's as well as a set of SR225I's. I plugged the SR225I's into the Portege with a 1/4" to 1/8" takedown adapter and I think that is what caused the problem.
My concern is: if a couple of hours of having those cans connected to my computer is enough to pull on the circuit board (?) enough to cause a problem, how strong is the headphone jack built overall? I am blind, and I use my computer (with screen-reading software) with headphones almost exclusively. I plug and unplug my headphones several times a day, and I take care not to pull on the headphone chord whenever possible. If I am already having problems, I am concerned about the durability of the jack over a long period of time.
I have thought about doing one of three things, all of which include never plugging a straight 1/4" to 1/8" takedown adapter in:
1. Exchange the laptop at BestBuy, explain the situation, and hoping for the best.
2. Exchanging the laptop, then paying to have a stronger headphone jack installed --probably by a third party--if one is made. (I noticed the AC power jack is metal but the headphone/microphone jacks are plastic.)

Answer:Toshiba Portege R705-P35 Notebook Headphone Jack Problems

You might not be able to have a better jack installed onto the motherboard, because they are engineered to such tight tolerances, and the existing jack is usually a fairly thin part made of plastic.

One option would be to have a shop solder jumpers to the board, and bring a better jack to the outside of the laptop. The jumpers would have to be secured to the shell in such a way as to prevent pulling on the mainboard.

There is another option. You could purchase a set of speakers which have a headset convenience jack, leave those speakers plugged in to the laptop, and plug the headphones into the speaker.

I purchased my laptop about a month ago and just over a week ago my internal speakers stopped working and instead just make a very quiet popping/cracking sound when audio is being played. My headphone port still works perfectly tho. Every so often the speakers will start working again randomly but always eventually stop working again. I'm guessing it is a hardware issue and plan on sending it back under warranty but just wanted to make sure as happened very randomly.Cheers

I've rebuilt my machine, Windows 7 I have the Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD driver installed, 8.32.23.5, dated: 6/5/2012 I will get an initial pop/click out of the built-in speakers when it tries to play something, but nothing else When I connect headphones up, everything is playing properly Have I disabled the speakers somehow with an Fn +?  The speakers off button is not lit. I can't find anything in BIOS that shuts off the speakers Thanks,Branch

Answer:W520 - headphone jack audio works, but not built-in speakers after wipe & reinstall

Hello branchh,

I understand that this can be frustrating for you.
This is the driver you need for you audio, you can download it from here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014918

This should get your speakers and audio up and running again.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Ok I have a cooler master case the centurian one and it has a front headphone jack. And I have an Audigy ZS 2 sound card. I have no Idea what to plug in to get this thing to work. Does anyone know of some helpful sites or anything that can help me out. Thanks

Answer:I cant get my headphone jack to work I need help.

well, on my mobo a jumper setting determines whether or not the front jack will work. make sure your mobo supports this and make sure that the wires are connected from the front of the case to the mobo itslef. there should be a place for it to plug in. its really up to your mobo no matter what.

I see that a lot of people have had this problem, and I have been trying to fix it but I am out of ideas. I have a Compaq Presario V3000 and ever since I installed Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, the headphone jack doesn't work. No entry for Headphones shows up in my Playback devices. I am pretty sure it is that my current driver is not compatible with Win7, but is there any other driver that I would be able to use in order to get this to work? The laptop speakers work, however they do not mute. Please let me know if you can help or if you need more info about my hardware. Thanks.

I have an HP Pavilion and the headphones are not recognized when plugged in, instead sound plays from the laptop's speakers. When I click the sound window the headphones are not even registered under the "playback" tab. I got this laptop around a year ago, and it stopped working after a month. I thought I would wait it out, but this has become a huge inconvenience.

Hi, the headphone port on my laptop has recently started to break. If you wiggle the wire, one of speakers will cut out. I imagine that the port is dying and i cannot afford to replace the whole motherboard as the jack is mounted on it. Is there any other way to replace the jack.?

Thanks Lewis

Hi All: i have thus far been unable to confirm if the headphones jack on the right side is a headphones ONLY jack or a combo microphone/headphones jack.   It would make no sense to put in a headphones ONLY jack, but stranger things have happened in this world. I've seen conflicting reports.    May I ask for a definitive confirmation please? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X1 Carbon: Headphone jack or combo Microphone/Headphone jack?

It's crazy that the Lenovo site still doesn't have a X1 Carbon spec sheet. The photo in The Verge review gallery shows a combo jack.

My computer was recently attacked by a virus. I had microsoft fix the problem but now my headphone jack doesnt work. The speakers work fine but when i plug in the headphones only the speaker plays sound. I went to "control panel> Hardware and Sound> Sound> Playback" and looked for the speaker/headphone icon but the only one that was there was speaker/HP I don't wanna mess with it till I know for sure. Is this the same thing or did it somehow get deleted in the mix. If it did how can I get it back on there? Thanks

Specs:
HP TouchSmart IQ506
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
------------------------------------------------
About a year ago, my TouchSmart hard drive crashed, so I took it to FutureShop and had it replaced. I was able to put all of my data back on, because it was backed up, but i noticed that my audio did not work correctly. All they had done was put Vista back on to it, so I didn't have the TouchSmart software or Realtek HD Audio Manager like I used to.

Anyways, the main problem is that once I unplug my headphones, I cant use them again until I restart the program I'm using. For example, say I have my headphones plugged in and I start Firefox. The sound will play through the headphones just fine, and if I unplug them the sound will play through the speakers just fine, but when I plug them back in, the sound will continue to play through the speakers. The only way to get the headphones to work again is to close Firefox and reopen it with the headphones already plugged in.

What may be causing this and how can I fix it?

Answer:Headphone Jack Does Not Work Correctly

Hello and welcome to the forum.

When you bought the computer was the software already installed on the computer or did you install the software.

If you bought it with the software preloaded did you buy a set of recovery disk's also, if not you will need to get the recovery disk's or you can make a set if you have another computer to go to like maybe a friend. Here is a great tutorial...

I have a headset set with a mic. It has 3.5mm plugs for the mic and the speakers. Just recently they stopped working together. What I mean is if I have either one of them plugged in, that one works. If I have both plugged in, the sound manager appears as if neither of them are plugged in. I've tried other headphones with the jacks and get the same result. I've tried reinstalling the driver, doing a system restore and using CCleaner to clean my registry. I've also messed around with just about every setting in the audio manager. Anyone have any ideas? It's odd that they work independently, which leads me to believe that the insertion detection is working just fine.

I have a Toshiba Satellite R845-S95 with Windows 7.

Answer:Headphone and Microphone Jack won't Work Together

Turn off the insertion detection on realtek. Top-right corner somewhere, from memory.

Only thing is I like to watch movies at my computer and listen with headphones. The dvd burner has a headphone jack right on the front of the unit, but it doesn't work. Have tried two different headphones that I know work. Please help.

Hi all,        I've recently got a T420 4180A32 (Conexant CX20672) and the headphone jack doesn't work under Windows 7. It works when I boot (natively) into Ubuntu, but obviously when I run a Virtual Machine into Ubuntu through Windows, it doesn't work either. I have: - Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver version that came installed.- Installed,  Uninstalled and reinstalled a newer driver version.- Uninstalled the old driver and installed the new one.- Reverted to using the generic High Definition Audio driver. The speakers work fine but again, headphone jack doesn't.- Established that it obviously isn't a hardware problem.- Uninstalled then reinstalled DirectX- Tried various headphones on the off chance that they were the problem. They weren't. I haven't: - Done a full reinstall of windows 7 (although I might)- Tried Windows 8, although again, I might as I have an unused licence for it and I really want my headphones to work. That's about all the info I can give. Besides this problem, the laptop runs great! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I own a new X1 Carbon (with the terrible adaptive function keys), and my combo audio/mic jack does not seem to work properly. Specifically, when I try to plug in headphones (or use an application like Skype) while the sound is running from the speakers, it does not switch. Conversely, if I start a video wearing headphones, and unplug them, the sound does not come out of the speakers. Can someone please advise how to troubleshoot this? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X1 Carbon combo headphone/mic jack does not work

Hi Dave0888,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with Audio port on ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Please set the default setting on Realtek High Definition audio application from control panel.
If you are unable to find the application or set the application, please download the driver from Lenovo Support page and install it.

Also please download ThinkVantage System Update utility and install it, and after installing it please run the application so that it will check for the latest drivers and automatically install it.

After installing all the application please restart the system and check it once.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Hope this helps.

Answer:How do I get my front case headphone jack to work?

in the manual for the sound card it should list jumpers for front audio. normally there is some discrepency between the labelling on the sound adapter and the cables on the case, so it can be largely trial and error.

Hello hye  ,Sorry ,  Red light at my headphone jack gone when i format the laptop.and i want to ask.  That headphone jack had a driver for red light or not. because it look style when redlight at there..Sorry for my ENGLISH

Answer:Redlight from headphone jack not work (Y410p)

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I am assuming that you did a One Key Recovery and restored your operating system to a like new condition ?

The red light should be OFF when everything is working properly on the your model.  If you did the One Key Recovery then the restoration corrected a driver problem with the audio that was causing the red light.

I recently run into this problem. The first time I tried to use it, it seems that the green jack for my headphones doesn't work at all. Plug in any pair and they don't even recognize it being there, as seen in Control Panel.

What might be the problem? The case has a bad jack, or the connector on the motherboard?

Answer:Front input headphone jack does not work

Do you have any other headphone to try at the front jack?
