I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is prone to overheating and switches itself off sometimes. Usually there's no problem with restarting but now the computer seems to be locked in some kind of safe mode as it runs a lot faster than normal and the start menu and windows don't look right.

I thought maybe all my display settings had been reset but they haven't. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can get the computer running normally again?

Answer:Equium A60-155 stucks in safe mode after itself switching

Hi

I don?t know if I have understood it right but your notebook has loaded the OS and now the display looks like a the graphic drive was not installed. Am I right?

Did you check the device manager for some malfunctions? If it?s possible try to update the graphic card driver. Possibly the driver is corrupt and cannot be loaded successfully.

Hello all
Recently my desktop, a Gateway FX6710 with a Radeon HD 4800 Graphics card (card is fairly new, about a year)  has an issue of the screen going black for several seconds when switching Users. My graphics drivers ARE up to date. I am running Win 7 64 bit. This has just started happening recently (about a week I guess)
If someone can give me some trouble shooting steps I would much appreciate it
I have 8 gigs of ram installed

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Black screen when switching users

Try running System File Checker ( sfc /scannow ) it will try to replace any missing or corrupt files. Open an elevated command prompt Run as Administrator copy and paste the above in the command prompt windoe and hit enter and allow it to run.

I get a black screen (similiar to when monitor is on standby) when logging off or switching users on my windows vista 64-bit. I then have to push to power button to turn off and then the computer restarts with a black screen that displays "how do you want to start your computer" screen.

Answer:Black screen logging off or switching users

It might be the power settings in the BIOS.
Reset your BIOS to Optimal or Default settings.

Hello,

Whenever I switch users then log back in after 3 seconds my computer goes into my screen-saver. The only way I can keep it from doing this is to franticly move my mouse all over the screen. This happened just 30 seconds ago and its really annoying. Please help.

I got two people with two different user accounts on a Windows XP computer. When one person is logged on for a while and logs off the let the other person log on, the computer saves the session and logs off. But then the screen turns black, the HD light goes off, and the computer freezes. The computer has to be hard rebooted every time this happens.

Hi, i've been searching for a fix to my problem with no success, so i came here.
I have windows vista home premium x64, its a fairly new computer - not even one year old.
it has 12gb of RAM, and the i7 core processor - i dont think its much useful to my problem, but here it is:

Logging off/Switching users takes forever, sometimes the screen just goes blank and stays there.
When it does work, i cannot login again properly - Only my desktop backround is shown (No sidebar, no desktop icons, no start menu etc)
The computer will not fully come out of sleep mode (Sleep mode isnt even set to on, yet screen shuts down anyway) - again only background is shown when i try to wake it up
Ctrl+Alt+Del in this state brings up a blank screen yet again, but i know that the menu is there (Sounds)
Of course there are other problems, but i dont think they are related (USB ports stop working)
If ANYONE has a similiar problem or knows how to resolve myissue, please contact me
thank you

Hello. I'm having the following issue on Vista 32bit Home Premium:

(1) I log into an account.
(2) I log out of that account (or hit switch users.)
(3) I log into a different account.
(4) After Vista authenticates the account, I get a black screen.

If I CTRL+ALT+DEL, I can get to the Task Manager. Explorer.exe does not load. I can hit "run" and manually start explorer.exe but it doesn't help. Does anyone know a workaround for this? The problem occurs only after I switch user accounts, the accounts work fine on their own if they are logged into first.

Answer:Black screen after logging out/switching users and attempting to log in again.

The only "fix" that I've found for the Black Screen error is to use System Restore to go back to a time before it started.

AFAIK, it's an issue in the registry and it has something to do with security settings (most times). Beyond that, there's just too many variables to determine what the cause it.

At work, if we don't have a Restore Point to fix it - we wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Customers don't want to pay us (by the hour) to spend weeks fooling around with their systems - only to find out we can't fix it.

Hi all,

I'm new to the site. Taking a look around, it seems you guys know everything , so here goes...

Over the last few months, I've noticed that about a fourth of the time, when I or one of my family members either logs off or fast-switches users, the screen goes black, and no combination of mouse-clicking or key-pressing will bring the screen back. We just have to restart the system, and then it's fine.

Typically, this happens when more than one of us is logged on, but not always. We upgraded to SP2 a very long time ago, and this issue was *supposed* to be fixed in the service pack. However, this problem seemed to start independently of any major update.

Edit: Luckily, this has never happened when any program was running with unsaved data, so we haven't lost anything by rebooting.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
celloblaze

Answer:[SOLVED] Black Screen/Freeze when switching users?

hello celloblaze,

mike here,

okay just to ask a few questions to get an idea !

what type of spyware /antivirus scanners are you useing ?

are you doing all your updates ( express/ custom )at windows updates ?

are you also updating your drivers ?

have you done a system file check ( windows installation cd required ?

also do you scan each user for spyware /viruses/ maleware ect...... ?

have you done a scandisk ?

what type of errors are you getting ?

are you shutting down all open programs befor switching ?

you see there are many factors that can contribute to one problem also if you could give more details about your computer this would help as in ( make / model / age / laptop /desktop /software a upgrade or full version, factory install or user install)

all we can do is try !!!!!!

I have had a strange issue that I can reproduce with Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3. If I log in as user 1 and use it for a bit, then switch to user two. The touch screen and pen stop working. I have the keyboard cover with mouse and that still works. If I switch back to user 1 it all works again. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but this catches me as a strange problem. I cant seem to find anyone else with this problem. Restarting and login as the user you want to work fixes it every time, but then the other user cant use the pen and touch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --Richard

I just got my computer last week, and for some reason, screen goes black and nothing happens after i log off or switch user...then I have to restart computer to start it back up. Screen switch light still blue, so it doesnt sleep, and computer blue light stays on ( no blinking sleep indicator) so it just doesnt do anything after I log/switch. I already updated bios and graphics card which is nvidia 9500gs.
Any ideas?

Answer:Screen Going black- freezing or stuck when logging off/switching users

Slow shutdown/User log off can be a result of little ram, or frag. This was also a commom issue even with 4GB of ram prior to SP1.

Try defragging.

Are you using reg cleaners, or using any media extenders? (i.e., Xbox)

If it is a desktop you may want to see If it is using "Away mode", or "prevent idling to sleep" mode (this is common for extenders).

Also,

Try this to sfc/scannow
System Files - SFC Command

Further resolution issues may be to check the GPU, and other issues through Vista diagnostics. Do the above first though, still if it offers resolution

Hi guy's just wondering if it's possible to get windows 7 to switch audio drivers when you switch to another user account.

For eg.. normal speakers device for my personal account and then have my multichannel device (profire 2626) set as default for my other user account 4 studio work.

Atm, if i change it on one account it changes on the other account which is annoying and i'd just like to set default device for each account so i don't have to do this.

Thx

Hi All, I have a g560 laptop which i bought just a month ago and use it for my study and entertainment purpose. I have noticed that sometimes when im using the laptop for more than 2-3 hrs. It starts giving me white screen. Lets say for ex. when the screensaver is supposed to come up, I get a white screen or when I am shutting down the white screen flashes for two times or when I turn the pc off, Its stuck at the white screen even though the laptop is off. The only way I can get the screen is off is by taking the battery out and then put the battery back in. In the past one month I've got this issue multiple times. Any help would be really appreciated. I work for a branded computer manufacturer myself but bought a LENoVo because my brother has been using a lenovo since the last three years without an issue. Thanks in advance

Answer:Stucks at white screen

Maybe you need to update your BIOS. BUT WAIT!! If you do that, do it under DOS.

My system had issues where I could not get into system restore as it was not showing up
so went to msconfig and I went to advanced startup and chose to start in diagnostic mode and on reboot it now just has a light blue screen.

I can move mouse around and there is no login box?

I tried reboot and hitting F8 but no luck.
Is there another bypass for this?

Please help!

Answer:Portege Z10 stucks on blue screen - cannot log in

Switch on the computer, press and hold the "F12" key while the Toshiba logo appears.
Alternative you can press and hold the "0" key to access the recovery option.
Choose "HDD Recovery" and confirm by selecting "Yes" that you want to enter the system recovery.

I recently sent my laptop (Equium A300D-13x) back to Toshiba to be repaired as it was overheating and cutting out.

It came back today and when I turned it on I got the screen where I was asked if I wanted to go into safe mode or start Windows normally.
Then it goes to a screen where it says, *Finishing the installation may take several minutes.

Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!*

I've been waiting all day now and I'm still stuck on this screen.

Has anyone had the same problem? And if so, how can I fix it?

Answer:Equium A300D-13x stucks on installation screen

Hi

I?ve recovered my notebook many times and the installation went always troublefree.
But of course such installation issue could happen always and I think you should simply repeat this procedure.

If you don?t have Toshiba Recovery disk then try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Just press F8 while notebook powering up.
Then choose ?Repair my computer?. Then a new window will appear and you could select the new option called Toshiba HDD.

Check it out!

I have a dell dimension C 21 pc with windows XP home edition service pack 2 which I have had for some months now. I have the free edition of AVG. We are 2 users, I am the main user and my partner is the second user. A problem frequently arises when he switches to his"area" in that an AVG box comes up for updating but then freezes . He then tries to shut it down gets the message "this program is not responding click on end or cancel" so we can't get rid of it.
I have spoken to the Dell help line who a) want to charge me for any advice as they say this is nothing to do with the hardware, and only the hardware is guaranteed when I complain about this they say I have to get rid of AVG and that only Macafee, which they put on for 90 days and I got rid of, will work.Any ideas on how to cure this it is quite annoying and he is getting quite fed up with it.

I would probably try uninstalling and then reinstalling AVG to see if that fixes the problem.

Okay so I have a computer that three people use, so we have profiles. I'm usually downloading things and when they log off, this is terminated. I'd like to be able to have it so they can go on the computer and I can keep downloading. So the feature I'm looking for is switch users. The problem is; It's not anywhere in sight. I was using the classic theme for both the icons of folders, and the start menu (all programs in stead of programs, etc). I would be fine with switching to the default look if it enabled me to switch users.

I just realized that I can't even change the look back to default. Can anyone help with either problem? (changing back to the default look, and being able to switch users)

Here are possible things that I've done:
Start>Shut Down> Than from here there is Log off, Restart, Shutdown, Standby. No switch.

When I try to go back to the default view I do this.
Right Click on Start>Properties> The option should be here but it's not.

Answer:Switching users... Can't do it.

Is "Use Fast User Switching" checkmarked in the User account under control panel?? If it's on..you should get the "Switch User" listed when you click Start..Log Off. There is also a registry tweak that will keep your internet connection active while switching users. Do so at your own risk as you will be editing and adding a value to the registry.

Here's how if you want to attempt.

1. Click Start, click Run and type REGEDIT and hit Enter (or click OK)
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/ CurrentVersion/Winlogon
3. Right-click an empty space in the right-hand pane, and from the menu
Select New > String value
4. Name the new value KeepRASConnections (it's important that you use upper and lower-case letters exactly as shown)
5. Right-click the KeepRASConnections value, and choose Modify from the menu
6. Enter 1 as the Value data
7. Close the registry editor
8. Restart Windows for the changes to take effect

Hello all,

I recently decided to upgrade the Memory in my lovely laptop.
I went online, found suitable RAMs and ordered.

What i got are 2 of these:
http://www.offtek.co.uk/ram-specification/toshiba/toshiba-laptop-memory/satellite-l675-10t/pid921300

Installation is very easy, but as soon as i turn on my laptop, it stucks in a black screen with a white underscore upright.

I guess its a incompatibility problem ?
Could you please help me out?

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L675-10T stucks in a black screen after new RAM upgrade

I think you are right? it looks like the modules are not fully compatible even if the online dealer page says they are?
You can remove the new RAM modules just to check if the notebook would boot up properly? I guess the unit will power up correctly?.

Solution??? Use another RAM modules? I made good experience using Kingston modules? they could be a little bit expensive but I think they should work properly.

Hello, when I turn on or restart my laptop (Compaq 6730b, OS Win7 64 bit), it begins to start, but after a few seconds it  stucks on screen with HP logo and label "Press the ESC key for startup menu". After that begin to flash NumLock and CapsLock diods on laptop - maybe two or three times. But nothing happens, although I press ESC or any other key. Only I can do is to turn off laptop and try it again, sometimes many times on an on till OS starts properly. I have permanently plugged in many peripherals - external monitor, external keyborad, mouse, webcam, speakers and I have laptop permanently plugged in charger. Maybe this facts could be cause of the problem, i guess, because when I turn laptop itself without any peripherals, this problem didnt appear. I'll be very thankful for any advice to solve this unpleasant problem. Thanks a lot. Regards miiichal

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attac.../1/Z930_EN.pdf page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

Hi,
Four days ago I installed BB flashback software but due to some problems I had to uninstall it and the installation didn't complete. After that day, whenever I open my Toshiba Laptop the windows vista boots normally but stucks at 'please wait while your system is preparing' screen. After waiting for a long time, I opened task manager, ended that running screen and then my laptops works just fine. I don't know what's that. I tried system restore many times but it always ends up unsuccessful. Later on I even installed BB flashback successfully and a new anti-virus AVG, but the problem persists. Any idea and any suggestions please???

Try running the Windows System File Checker (SFC)
Instructions: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If that doesn't help, try doing a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download
Note: Uncheck the checkbox at the end of the installation titled "Enable free trial of Malwarebytes PRO"

I am trying to set up my computer so that my wife can use it, but not have access to all my files and programs etc...

I have created her user account, but whenever i try and switch users it hangs at a Red screen, sometimes with a box saying "Applying personal setting Internet Explorer 6".

What am i doing wrong? Do i have to log my account off first before switching over?

Help!

Answer:Problems switching users

Well, I think it is because of the available memory on your computer. What are your computer's specs?

Try logging off your account, and then signing into hers. If it's the first time she's signing in, it can take a long time for all the new user settings to be created.ie. the internet explorer 6 is being installed... leave it alone for like 10-30min and see what happens.

I use to be able to switch users on AOL and see how many e-mails each user had, along with their sign on names. Now working with Windows 7 and I can't see all my AOL usernames. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Answer:Switching users to sign in to AOL

Take off the training wheels, drop AOL and really use the internet. Your ISP can offer you a number of email accounts, or you can use gmail, yahoo, or other free email accounts out there. No one really needs AOL anymore. When AOL was first around, the pure internet was scary for many so AOL put in place simple controls and hid much of went on behind. Long before even XP came around the internet and browsers became more friendly (as long as you had a good antivirus program) and easier to use, basically making AOL obsolete. Today, there is really no reason to use it any longer. Try it with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or others. Email accounts can be web based where you log in through your browser similar to the way you probably do today, or one that uses an email client like Outlook, Windows Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird to name a few where you open your email program and it downloads your emails for you and you keep them on your computer. Thunderbird has options for independent multiple email accounts as well as multiple accounts that feed into a single inbox. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Got a problem that I have not encountered before. My little used Compaq Presario died again so I pulled the hard drive out and disposed of the carcass. Then I picked up a P3 lease return w/o a drive in it. I put my drive in and started it up. Windows wouldn't load...said some dll was missing. I figured if one was corrupted there were probable others and just reinstalled XP Pro over it. I can't do a clean install because I have no way to back up any data on my drive just yet.

Anyway, this is not the first time I have installed XP but this time, when we attempted to switch between users, it asked for a password and would not go any further. Naturally, I did not have any passwords set up at that point. In order to switch users, we have to reboot the system. That pretty much defeats the purpose of being able to switch back and forth between users so I would really like to get this fixed.

I checked under CtrlPanel>Power>Advanced and found that Fast Switching was enabled and there was a check mark beside 'Prompt for Password". I removed the check mark but it didn't change anything, it still wants a password to get in.

My XP Pro does not yet have SP2 on it. I do not know any specs for this computer either. And I find that the drive was loaded with bugs and hidden goodies. I reinstalled AdAware and Spybot, updated and then ran them both. AdAware found over 500 items to get rid off and Spybot took over an hour to run. I do not kno... Read more

If you want to know what is in the box, try EVEREST. Free from MG.

When you run EVEREST, Click on "Computer" icon, then on "Summary", then on "Report" (at top menu), then on "Quick Report Summary", down to "Plain text". Save it to a file, as whatever name you like, (maybe PCddmmyy--with ddmmyy being the current date). Then it can be posted for all to see.

I've had this problem for a long time now. Every once in a while I will set out on a google quest to find the answer but I haven't succeded yet

The problem is that whenever I "switch user" (win + L) out of my account for someone else to log on their account, when they try logging off, my monitor acts like if I was putting the computer into sleep mode. That is, it goes black and some messages come up on the screen saying the usual "check power etc" messages and the light flashes. The computer continues to run and there is no way of restoring my screen so I am forced to press the main power button on the computer tower.

I am running windows xp professional sp 2
My video card is nvidia geforce fx 5500
Pentium 4 3.00GHz
1BG RAM
I run zone alarm and AVG in the background

I have not always had this problem. I don't remember when it started but it has been a long time now (I would say at least 6 months.)

Appreciate any suggestions or information...

Suddenly this afternoon I could not switch from one user to another in XP unless I logged off from one user first. When I click Start, then Logoff I get the normal choices of 'Switch User', 'Logoff' or 'Cancel'. All of a sudden 'Switch User' does not work. I can only choose 'Logoff' or 'Cancel'. The only changes made today were that one of the kids installed the SIMS2 game and that seemed to go smoothly. Also, when I leave the PC idle, my screen saver comes on but when I move the mouse I just get the wallpaper and my icons have all disappeared. To get them back I have to do Alt, Ctrl, Del.Any takers out there?

Hello, i recently removed a virus with the help of one of the mods of this forum by using combofix, my computer sped up greatly but now i find when i try to switch users it takes from around at the minimum 5 minutes to switch and the max around 8 or 9 mins.

I am using windows Vista Business, 2.6Ghz Core 2 Duo Processor and a sufficient amount of ram (in my opinion anyways - 3gigabyte ram).

Could i have some help in solving this issue and trying to get it back to its normal 5-15 seconds user switch? The waiting time can get tedious when i switch users and its really annoying!

Help would be great appreciated!

Thanks,

I Am running Win7 64 bit. Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew. Can anyone here help me?

No signal to the monitor seems more like a graphics problem. Check and make sure your drivers are up to date. Also, run scannow system file checker. That will check the system files. See if either of these help.

Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I did a search and could not find anything related to the problem I'm experiencing.

I have an XP box with SP2, and have created several accounts for my family. I've found that often when I try to log off a family member and log on as myself that the pc freezes. It seems to be ok at first because it expands my name once I click on it, but very shortly will do nothing and I have to press reset.

Does anyone know what that might be? Thank you in advance for your time.

You know the sound that the computer makes when you click on start-> Log Off -> Switch User? It's a specific sound like when you turn off your computer or when you restart your computer, or when you log in to your computer. That "Windows" sound. Well for me, that sound has disapeared everytime switch users. My normal sound is okay, and the log off/log in sounds are still there, but for some strange reason, my Switch User sound is gone. I was just wondering what caused this, it's not really a big deal, but I am just curious as to what happened.

Answer:Switching Users Sound

Don't know why it stopped, unless some one disabled it or deleted the file.
You can reset/select the sound you want here:
Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices
Sounds Tab
Last two items under the Windows section are Windows Logoff and Windows Logon
Files are usually in the Windows\Media folder:
Windows XP Logoff Sound.wav
Windows XP Logon Sound.wav

Two problems :
1. With W7, as say User 1, I could listen to music or BBC radio via the internet. If I switched to User 2, the music or radio opened as User 1 would continue to play and be heard as User 2. With W10, switching users cuts out any music or radio opened as User 1. Are the listening features under W7 available under W10?
2. With W7, I could copy from documents or spreadsheets opened under User 1 and paste into documents of spreadsheets as User 2. This feature does not work in W10. Can this be fixed?

I have set up 2 users; 1 as administrator (me) and 1 for my wife. It is a home computer and we do not require password protection. I am the normal user and have managed to set up so that I login within having to enter password.
However when my wife uses the computer the Start-up screen is me and my wife has to switch user. When she does this she has to enter her her password.
Is it possible to set-up so that she can simply switch user without her passport

Answer:Switching Users without password

Hello Polterry, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you have more than one user account on the computer, you might consider using the tutorial below to set to always show all users at sign in instead of the last user. Since you do not have a password, it would sign in to your account automatically if you were the last one that signed out. Having it set to all users, will instead have the sign in screen show with all user accounts to select to sign in without having to switch user.

Sign in - Show All Users or Last User in Windows 8
If your wife doesn't have a password, she should be able to just select her account to sign in.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

He then tries to shut it down gets the message "this program is not responding click on end or cancel" so we can't get rid of it.
I have spoken to the Dell help line who a) want to charge me for any advice as they say this is nothing to do with the hardware, and only the hardware is guaranteed b) when I complain about this they say I have to get rid of AVG and that only Macafee, which they put on for 90 days and I got rid of, will work.Any ideas on how to cure this it is quite annoying and he is getting quite fed up with it.

I have been working on a friend's PC -- an hp pavilion (a527x) that's running WinXP-SP2. I just spent days cleaning all the spyware off of it, & finally got an OK from Chaslang that it was clean! However, I'm getting ready to return it, & now when I log off from one user & click on the 2nd user to change desktops, the monitor just goes black with a flashing cursor for a few seconds. Cannot get anything else to come up on the monitor then, & haven't had any trouble with the monitor or any other hardware up to this point. I turned off "hibernate", etc...in "Power Options" in the Control Panel. Any ideas here as to the cause? PC is running fine otherwise. Although can't seem to get MyWayWebSearch spyware off of it. Hey guys, recent problem here with switching usernames. There's three accounts on my computer, all with no passwords. About three weeks ago a strange thing has been happening: the first time you start your computer and log into one of the three accounts, it'll log you in no problem. Then, when you go and switch users, it will prompt for a password that was never created, and won't let you log in. So I restarted the computer, and then I put some simple passwords on the accounts, thinking it would work. Well, the same thing happened. The first time you log in after a bootup it works, but then you get locked out again once you try switching users again.

This is where it gets even stranger. The problem stopped, you could switch users fine. "Alright!" I said, "it's finally over."

I was wrong, once you restart the computer it went back to locking me out. I'm so confused about this, and it's really frustrating. I've tried virus scans and there appears to be no problems with anything like that. I really need some assistance here.

Answer:Problem With Switching Users.

Try going to users in the control panel and click on switch the way users log on or off.

Whichever way you have it set, change to the other.

After you do that reboot, then go back to users and switch back.

I've been having a problem where when I switch users from another account and start using iTunes, it keeps playing the error/prompt sound that I hear for the other account. When the other account user switches back, they find a lot of prompts saying that "iTunes cannot be opened because another user has it open", despite the fact that they didn't have iTunes running.

If I terminate the other user's process through Task Manger -->View Processes from all users, it stays off for about 2-3 minutes before coming back on, playing the annoying prompt sound and displaying the pile of prompts.

If I terminate the other user's process through Task Manger -->View Processes from all users, it stays off for about 2-3 minutes before coming back on, playing the annoying prompt sound and displaying the pile of prompts.

Not able to switch users, just created a new user with limited access and when trying to switch users I get this.

"Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified."

I am not on a network, I connect to the Internet via cable.
I tried loading a fix for this called, "UPHClean-Setup". Supposed to free resources or something like that. Didn't work. I havn't had any users on this machine before. I am the administer and alway boot to this.
Running WinXP Pro, with VirusScan Professional Edition ver: 7.03.6000.

Over the course of the last few months, I have been experiencing issues logging into my office computer from home as there has been other individuals logging in at my work station using the "Switch User" option. This creates issues for me logging in from home. Locking the computer does nothing to prevent Switching Users. Is there any way to make my Windows 10 computer at work only usable by me....ie, making Switching Users not possible? Thank you in advance.

Answer:Can I Prevent Switching Users?

Hello Markaz,

You could use the method in the tutorial to also remove the switch user option in Windows 10 to see if that may help.

Answer:switching users problem

Fast user switching can block a number of items although I have never heard of your problem.Does this key combination work with FUS turned off. If so turn it off ,then check Microsoft to see if there is a work around .You may not need it anyway,I have found it isn't worth it.

I am trying to find out how to keep my Broadband connection active when I switch users. I have 4 accts. on my computer, one for each family member. Whenever I switch accts, my Broadband connection shuts down. You can start it up again after the switch with no problem. I would prefer, however, to have it stay connected during the switch, as this would just make my life easier. For instance all users connect to the same torrent software, and I have the files for it synced. So, no matter who is logged in, the torrent info is the same. When the connection drops, the torrent software has to reload all the DHT info. I have googled this, to no avail. I assume it is a matter of where the BB Modem Drivers are installed?? Or maybe a Registry tweak. At any rate, I am at a loss as to how to do it, but I am sure it can be done. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciatedClick to expand...

OK dont worry Guys, I know it was a strange problem, maybe my PC just isnt powerfull enough to handle more than 1 user, so I have now deleted the other log in names, it was just too much of a headache.
Now I am just left with my name there.
Now, how do I get into my account without having to click on my name (hope yopu know what I mean)
I just want the pc to boot to my desktop like it used to without me clicking on my name.
Thanks.

When switching users in XP Pro - the OS has suddenly decided it needs to reboot.

Regardless of which account your switching from/to - XP executes the switch, but before it completes - the screen goes black and the machine reboots for no apparent reason.

Any ideas as to why this is happening? I'm running Norton Antivirus and run SpyBot on a regular basis.

For some reason, if I log on to my account (an administrator account), then log off, none of the other users (my husband's admin. account or the kids' limited user accts) can be signed on. XP sits on the welcome screen for an unusually long time, then goes to just the user's wallpaper screen (no icons, no taskbar, nothing). Can't pull up task manager or warm boot, have to shut down & restart. I can log on any of the other accounts, and log off, and switch to mine, but not vice versa. Even if I don't do ANYTHING after signing on. So, the problems seems to be with my account settings somehow.

This is a new problem -- actually, my husband (who notices it most, because I use the PC most of the time, and then when he tries to get on at night, can't) says it was happening itermittantly, but now happens every time.

Any ideas?

TIA,
M

Hey, i'm trying to uninstall a program, and windows is telling me that another user is logged on, and that it won't uninstall properly if they're logged in, anyway can i log that user out without having their password, so I can uninstall this program?

Answer:Switching Users Without A Password

You should be able to log them off by using Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), switching to the Users tab, highlighting the user that you want to log off and then select Log Off from the buttons at the bottom of the screen.
