High speed host controller issue (Toshiba Satellite)

Question: High speed host controller issue (Toshiba Satellite)

I have a Toshiba satellite a305d-s6848. The specs for this can be found
here: reviews.cnet.com/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a305d-s6848/4507-3121_7-33088925.html (Sorry for no link, but I am apparently not allowed to do that yet.

I bought it new and it came with windows vista. A couple years later I upgraded to windows 7. Upgrading to the new OS was fine, but then later I needed to upgrage yet again to 64 bit. This, unfortunately was not as easy and I need to wipe the drive clean and start fresh.

Now there are a couple issues with the host controllers, the main being that I keep getting warnings saying that the devices I plug in can run faster if I were to use a high speed port (2.0). This confuses me because the USB ports are 2.0, but they are acting like they are 1.1. I have done everything I can think of to get these to function correctly, but nothing I do seems to work.

The second issue (which isn't as annoying) is that when I move the screen, the sound for connect / disconnect a USB device is played and the little popup for "new device connected" is shown. I am unsure why the screen is acting like it's a USB device. I have disabled the notifications and sounds for all ports now, but I would kind of like to know why this is happening.

Do anyone know how I can solve these problems? I have checked multiple forums, and have been searching for an answer for about 3 months now with no luck. I think I have provided enough information, but if anyone needs more, just let me know and I will be happy to provide it.

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've upgraded my Satellite 1110 Z15 from XP home to XP Pro. I'm under the impression that I have USB 2 ports on my laptop. Problem I'm facing is that when I connect a USB 2 device it can't find the host controllers and runs at 1.1 speed.

I've read it may be a problem with the motherboard drivers, is there something I can download to fix this?

Answer:High Speed USB 2 host controller for Satellite 1110

Hi

If I remember your unit has three USB ports and they are definitely 1.1. There is no way to make them faster. One solution is to use USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.

It is not a kind of malfunction or problem and there is no way to ?fix it?.

Can anyone help please. I've just installed a new printer/scanner. When I switch on a window on the task bar tells me that it can perform faster if connected to a high speed USB Port and that I should install a Hi Speed USB Host Controller. I presume that means upgrading to USB 2.0.How do I do that? Is it a software or hardware change or can I use some sort of convertor.Anyone know please?

Answer:high speed USB Host Controller

Upgrading to USB 2.0 normally involves installing a PCI card with USB 2.0 ports. Existing USB 1.1 hardware cannot be upgraded to 2.0Service Pack 1 implements native support for USB 2.0 hardware in Windows XP, otherwise, for earlier versions of Windows, the manufacturer's supplied drivers need to be installed with the card.

Hi!

I have replaced my original XP Home for an XP Professional. I also downloaded the security updates. My problem is the following:
when I connect a mass storage device, it is recognized and started but it is much slower than used to be. I also get the problem message "high speed usb device is connected to a slow..."
-I tried to look for an USB driver on the Tools and Utilities CD - NO SIGN OF IT!
-I refreshed the chipste driver - NO RESULT!
-I checked the driver support here on T. website - NO SIGN OF USB DRIVER UPGRADE!

Please somebody help me!
Thank You!

Answer:High-speed USB host controller for A10. Where can I find it? (XP)

Hi,
the problem message "high speed usb device is connected to a slow..." is based on the USB Chipset of you Notebook.

It seem that you use a mass storage device which works with USB 2.0.

I think that the USB Ports of your Notebook are working with USB 1.1.

That explains the message!

But you don?t have to worry about it. You can work with this storage, but not so fast as he wants to...

An Upgrade of the USB 1.1 chipset is not possible.

Hi everyone,

I recentry purchased a new Toshiba Satellite A60 notebook. Of course, instantly I formatted it, and installed XP Pro, because I didn't need half the programs that the laptop comes installed with.

Problem is now that all they gave me was a recovery disk (DVD). I have found the ATI and RealTek Drivers with no problems off the Toshiba Download Centre, but I cannot find any USB 2.0 drivers (Host Controller). The USB goes really really slow now. I tried just using a Generic Host Controller, but it goes 10 times slower then if I dont have any controller in there lol.

Im thinking maybe I can get Norton Ghost, and try to view the files that Toshiba used in their Recovery Disk.

I am still stunned why they haven't given me a Drivers CD, first time this has happened to me.

Any Suggestions? Or maybe anyone know where I can get the Host Controller from, that suits the A60?

Thanks in Advance!

Answer:Toshiba A60 USB 2.0 Host Controller, Can Anyone Help?

HI Ozzie,

Did you not receive the Toshiba Tools & Utilities CD in addition to the Recovery Disks ?

If not then perhaps you could re-install your system from the recovery disks (thereby getting all the correct drivers) and then delete the unwanted software afterwards. This would ensure that you get all the ccompatible drivers for your system

Trying to install Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter to one of my computers which is Windows XP. I received a pop up saying it would work faster if I had a Hi Speed USB Host Controller. I don't know what a Host Controller is and is this something that can be downloaded?

Answer:Hi Speed USB Host Controller

A USB Host Controller is the hardware (chipset or card) which controls the hardware-bus to the USB port (see link below). Being hardware, it cannot be downloaded. You could, however, find a high-speed (USB 2.0 or better) USB card that may work with your machine, if you feel it would significantly increase your speed on the wireless adapter.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Host_c..."Channeling the spirit of jboy..."

I downloaded Skype for a friend and she had to buy a 4 into 1 adapter for the webcam I installed because she only had 2 USB ports. The man at PCWorld thinks she has USB 1 by looking at the computer instruction book and said that the adapter would work (belkin?). One of her ports I left as is because her broadband was plugged into it and I didn't want to fool around with that. The other one I used the adapter to plug in her speaker, the webcam and her Lexmark printer. Her printer and Dell computer are about 4-5 years old.

When plugging in the printer USB, a notice came up: 'You must add a hi-speed USB host controller to this computer to obtain max performance'. I just left it in and kept my fingers crossed.

She just called me and said the only way she can get her printer to work is by unplugging the adapter and plugging her printer directly into her computer port and she is not happy about that because she uses her printer often. What do I do?

I don't know anything about desktops, and I don't know what she has on hers, so if anyone has a solution for this, could you please explain to this dummy?

Thanks.

I've been digging around, but I can't seem to find what the cause of this high CPU usage is. It appears to be affecting the explorer service as well as Chrome. CPU usage does NOT go down if I kill all chrome processes however.

Any insight would be wonderful.

Hi,
According to your screenshot, it seems this is not related a particular service, it just like a memory leak issue.
Can you check the event viewer to see if there is some error record?
Or you can check if this issue happens in Clean Boot mode, this would eliminate software conflict:

Answer:Recommend HI-Speed USB host controller

You more than likely have a USB 1.1 port. Most newer computers have USB 2.0 which is faster than 1.1.

There is no downloads to upgrade to 2.0. It actually requires new hardware.

Although - good news is, your hard drive should still work fine on 1.1 - it just won't work as fast as if it was hooked up to a 2.0 USB drive.

I am using my X20 with the XP (Pro SP2) OS as a GPS navigational device on my boat for a class I teach in navigation.  I now want to erase the HD and reformat it (to get rid of all the 'debris' I have accumulated over the years).  I have several USB HD (250 GB WD-types) that I use to backup the data I have on my other laptops. When I plug any one of these USB HD devices into the X20, I get not recognition by my OS that the device is even  there.  If I plug in a 'thumb drive', I have no problem getting recognition and having it work properly (although I get the message that the device will work faster if I connect it to a hi-speed USB 2.0 port).  I have no difficulty plugging the external USB HD into my other laptop (Dell) and having it work properly. My issue is this:  how can I get this computer (X20) recognize this external WD USB HD?

Answer:about high speed usb host contrller

You are either using a USB1.1 controller or a USB2.0 controller but don't have USB2.0 drivers installed. If your motherboard has USB2.0 you have to install USB2.0 drivers that comes with the motherboard to take advantage of high speed USB. If you only have USB1.1 you could buy a USB controller expansion card. You can also leave it the way it is, it will just be slower.

I have had occasional trouble with my hi-speed USB connection to an external hard drive - it is sometimes recognised as hi-speed, and sometimes not. It has now finally given up completely. When I go into the Device Manager, select the Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller, and go into Properties, I am told that the device cannot start (Code 10). When I have checked, I have been informed that my driver is up to date. I have sent the data to Microsoft for a possible solution, but have had no response. I would be grateful for any suggestions. When I plug in my usb drive to the usb port, a message shows that I need to install hi-speed usb host controller in order for the driver to perform in max performance.

Where/How to I install this Hi-Speed USB host controller? Thank you.

Answer:Solved: Installing Hi-Speed USB Host Controller

The message is telling you that your USB drive can run faster than the connection on your PC allows. That's common when hooking up new USB hardware to older PCs. You can buy a new USB controller card which fits in a slot on your motherboard - if you plug your USB drive into the card it will run at higher speed, but if you are satisfied with the way it runs now then you don't need to do that, it will do no harm.

From what I can tell, this computer does not have USB 2.0 available on it -- only USB. ?? (I am no computer wiz). I am wondering if I can fix this problem by purchasing either a pci usb 2.0 card or firewire/usb 2.0 card to plug into my motherboard, or a hub (looked into an Adaptec XHub 4+). ??? Is this even possible to add USB 2.0 since it is not integrated into my MB? My MB is a Fox Conn, but I cannot find my box to get the model # (I attempted to go to their website for a driver download or ANYTHING that would help me, but without the model # they let you go NOWHERE).

Answer:No high speed USB host controllers on computer

ok, you probably have usb 1.1(?) (an older version of usb). i take it you are using usb adapters to connect to your wireless router? if so, then yes a pci usb card should work (or with firewire - but it might cost more). you can't just update your drivers, you have to add a new card, to get the newer version (of course installing those drivers). g/l, sos

Hi AllIve bought a cheap usb hub from ebay for 2.99, it works fine installs ok no problems there but when i connect my pen drive or digi camera a message pops up saying basically my tasks will take longer as it requires a high speed usb hub controller. Also im using windows xp proWhere can i get one from?

Answer:High speed usb hub controller

You are probably referring to the Windows message that using a 2.0 rather than 1.1 USB device will speed up data transfers. In addition it sounds as though you have an unpowered hub - a powered version would be far better, whether 1.1 or 2.0USB. Most people aren't too bothered about the slower data transfers as it's still pretty rapid.Alternatively a 2.0USB PCI card with four ports can be yours for about 10-15.

I think some kind of background processes stress the CPU.
You could check this in task manager-> processes tab
Click on CPU column to get the processes ordered and to show all the processes which stress the CPU.

Closing or disabling such processes can help to reduce the CPU performance.

Ive looked just about everywhere for the SCSI/RAID Host Controller, but i cant find it anywhere, including the microsoft site.

Laptop is Toshiba Satellite 1115-s103 serial # x2340363k running Windows XP/SP-2.

When plugging in a working high speed internet cable and restarting unit, an icon appears in lower right tray which looks like an internet connection icon with a small yellow ball bouncing back and forth.
However, when browser (either Firefox or Internet Explorer) is pulled up unit cannot find any valid address.
Suggestion was made that SP-2 might be the problem but after deinstalling SP-2 there was no improvement.

Need help - thanks - Paul

I bought a L755-1D6 w/ Windows7 x64 some days ago. The "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller" was working correctly, I am using a CnMemory Core 1,5 TB drive. I used the drive in the last days and the transfer speed was fast.

Unfortunately today the drive suddenly was not recognized anymore. In device manager the controller is marked with a yellow sign and the error says "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". There is no hub listed for this controller.

The driver version is 2.0.32.0. I already tried
- to remove the device
- to uninstall the device
- to use the driver version 2.1.28 from www.station-drivers.com
but no success. So I reverted to the official driver version 2.0.32.0 from Toshiba.

I searched the forums and googled this error but I could not find any working solution. In Windows Update history there are only two updates for Windows Defender listed since last week, so there were no major system updates which could cause this behaviour.

Any tips?

Thanks a lot,
Dennis

Hi,

If you reboot the notebook do the USB Ports work again?

If you plug something else into the USB port does that device work ok?

Is that HDD powered using it's own AC Adapter? Or does it get power from the port? If the HDD draws too much power it can shut off the USB port for safety. You can use a USB Y-Cable to power the HDD from two USB Ports.

If the ports are still no good, try a System Restore and check the ports physically for bent pins.

When I start my computer, it attempts to install a lot of "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" drivers, however there must be only one (also according to Device Manager only one works correctly too), however I can't seem to find a way to stop this process. Even if I remove all those extra 'devices' Windows reinstalls them. While they are installing (which takes about 10-20 minutes) my Keyboard and Mouse aren't responding. It's really annoying.
Here's screenshot of Device Manager: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2637453/OHCI.PNG

Anyone know how to fix this?

I have toshiba laptop with winxp that gets to the windows desktop screen, momentarily goes to a blue screen with some kind of message and then reboots. I can operate the computer in safe mode. I found a yellow question mark next to the sm (system management?) bus controller in the device manager section. It doesn't allow me to reinstall it and there is no info on the provider, date or version in this section. The messages "The drivers for this device are not installed (code28)" and "This device isn't using any resources because it has a problem" are displayed. I've tried system restore but it fails. I've tried searching for this driver at the toshiba website and elsewhere but I can't find it. Additional system info: toshiba (ACPI) bios versio 1.4, 7/1/2004; sm bios version 2.3; intel celeron @ 2.8 GHz; processor x86 family 15 model 2 stepping 9. Anybody have this driver? Hello all.

I did a fresh install of windows 7 32bit on a toshiba Satellite P755-S5215 laptop and I have a major amount of device errors.

The main driver I want to get is the ethernet controller so I can at least connect to the internet. I have a program that will search and find the best device drivers for the system but I need to connect to the internet first.

I looked at the toshiba support site but there doesn't seem to be any type of drivers there that helped, I downloaded a couple and they didnt' seem to work.

Does anyone know the exact ethernet controller driver I need for that machine? I don't know how to check to see what type of NIC I have to determine where I need to go to download the driver.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi,
It seems to me that USB ports of SATELLITE A60-197ITA are not really High Speed. They are very slow!
Some diagnose program says that BIOS doesn't support USB Legacy....

Is this the problem?
What can I do to have better performances?

Answer:Satellite-A60 - USB ports are not really High Speed

Hello

I don?t know how you noticed that the ports are not high speed USB 2.0 ports. As far as I know your unit has definitely USB 2.0 ports. In my opinion data transfer speed depends on external device too.

Best example for this is data copying from external HDD. If I copy just one file it runs quite fast but if the data transfer containing a few files with high data size the transfer speed drops rapidly.

If you want to know more about Legacy support please check the user?s manuals (page 126 and 156).

Hi

I have a problem with the program Media Controller, not get it to work at all, I have a Sony Bravia with wifi, try to share music and video and always says "remote media library did not allow the connection".

How I can fix it, also say that when you try to play a file in the context menu "Play on" attempts to connect to the server but never connects.

Answer:Toshiba Media Controller is not working on Satellite P850-12Z and Win7

+To stream your media, you need the following hardware and software:+

? A wired or wireless private network.
? Your PC needs to be connected via a broadband router.
? Your devices must be on the same subnet as your computer.
? The network location must be set to Home network.
? Either another computer on your network or a device known as a Digital Media Renderer (DMR) must be present. DMR are hardware devices connected to your wired or wireless network that you can control using your computer.

+To open Media Controller to allow enabling / disabling (not recommended):+

1. Click the Start menu.
2. Enter "Controller" into the search field.
3. Click "Media Controller" in the search results.
4. TOSHIBA Media Controller will open allowing you to setup sharing options.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up file sharing.
6. For more information about setting up devices on your network, refer to the online help for Microsoft? Windows? 7 Operating System:

Hello everyone

I have a Satelite L650 laptop that worked perfectly well until I updated the BIOS to 1.90 release a few days ago. Now the problem is in the title.

1) The fan runs at maximum speed all the time regardless of what I do, even when nothing is running.
2) If I switch to suspended mode and power back the laptop, the fan is not running at all and I get a message within 10 seconds :

.../\

And of course, I have to stop the laptop and boot it up in order to get the fan running (whitch would go at max speed immediately).
I have cleaned the laptop from dust as good as possible, to make sure there is no dust on a sensor but I can't do much from the outside. I used an "air blower"
I have not opened the laptop to check and clean any possible dust as I believe it would break my warranty policy (not sure about that).

I've came across a few posts with people having this issue :
- either with a brand new laptop
- or after updating the BIOS.

According to me, it sounds like a problem with this 1.90 BIOS release. I guess there is no way supported by Toshiba to downgrade the BIOS to a lower version. I know that Toshiba Techs can do that but I have no clue what hard/software they use. Does anybody have information about this problem and/or about a new possible release of the BIOS ? Hello!
I have a new Toshiba Sattellite C660-1WT
Product code PSC1LE-01Y01ERU
With Core i3-2310M processor
With preinstalled Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 operation system
BIOS ver 1.00 13/18/2001 (based on Toshiba HWSetup)

Cooling fan runs on high speed, with very loud noise.
I have tried to change "Toshiba Power Saver Settings V8.9.4.64" to "Battery optimized" in "Advanced power settings" but this didn't helps.
This option work only in one way - to increase fan speed, but never to decrease.
When I turn this option to "Maximum performance" and then back to "Battery optimized" fan is going to low speed, but only for first hight CPU load operation then fan begin runs on high speed and never switch to low.

Can you help me to reduce fan noise when cpu is idle automatically?

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - Fan speed controller didn't work properly.

I have tested and defined fan speed settings on several Toshiba notebooks (belong to my friends) and it always work. With other words the fan speed was always reduced.

I recommend you to use ?Balanced power option? for usual work. Enter additional options for balanced power plan and set ?Cling method? to battery optimized. After doing this fan speed should be reduced and work with notebook much pleasant than before.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6965. It's probably about 5 years old I think. It runs Windows Vista 64 bit. Lately I've noticed that when I am either playing a multiplayer game online, trying to download a new game via steam, or playing Civ online multiplayer my computer will randomly disconnect from the wifi. I will be able to stay connected anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes and then it disconnects. I've tried all sorts of fixes. I've tried renewing the ip address, updating the wifi driver, powering on and off, turning firewall on and off, scanning for malware, using ccleaner. Well, some of that was for my PC being very sluggish. I bought the Witcher 2 on steam the other day and still haven't been able to download it. I would really appreciate any help. What information would you need?

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

Hello!

I have loaded Windows XP-SP2 on Satellite L300 14C Model PSLB0E-02T01XGR.

Almost all drivers are in & working fine except following:

1. Unable to locate the driver for Display. Display resolution limited to 1024x768. Try to load the Chipset Driver of intel 965 made for Vista, but not accepted by XP!

2. Key "FN" not working for Brighness control. Display working on FULL BRIGHTNESS. Not tried other combinations. But FN+F5 is working for internal/external monitor switch.

3. Driver for MODEM device on HD Audio Bus could not be located. Can any one tell me what kind of MODEM is this & how should I use it??

4. During XP installation i have chanaged the HDD SATA Controller mode to "Compatibility" . Now is it advisable to switch back to "AHCI" ??? Will XP boot after that???

Please help me on atleast first 2 points, I'm desperate ! Worried with LCD life & my eye sight !!!......

Answer:Satellite L300 14C: XP drivers for Display & High Speed Modem

Hi there,

thats nice that almost all drivers are working.

Here?s some hints for the remaining drivers/devices:

1. Go to www.intel.com and download the graphics card driver from there. Search for that 965 chipset and you will find it..

2. What did you installed? The Toshiba Tools? I wonder that you even have the Fn-F5 functionality, I mean, did you installed the Vista drivers??

3. The modem device is from Conexant, so you should check google for Conexant modem drivers. If you don?t know what a modem is then check this [LINK|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modem]
4. It?s NOT advisable because if you set it back to AHCI mode your windows OS will not boot anymore because you installed your OS in compatibility mode which means:
the BIOS emulates an IDE port and the integrated SATA-HDD does not operate natively in AHCI mode: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AHCI

Thats all...

Hi,

I have a new SATELLITE S50-B 15, i7-5500U, 8GB Ram, SSD etc. and iv been having a few issues with it.

for reasons unknown the CPU fan will start running at high speed even though the CPU temp has not reaching 35%.
it has also frozen about 10 times since I got it (April this year).

The only way to get it working again would me to hold the power button until off and start it back up.
Once started back up there is no mention of any problem in the event logs other than the forceful shutdown.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced any issues?

Thanks,

Chris

Answer:Satellite S50-B 15P - Fans running at high speed and system crash's

The only way to get it working again would me to hold the power button until off and start it back up.

Forcing shut down resets the fan activity and the performance?
Hmm? this sounds like there must be some kind of system issue? probably the some background processes locks the CPU and therefore the fan activity increases.

You could start the task manager and in the tab called ?Processes? you will find all background applications which would use the CPU.
Click on the CPU column to show all processes loading the CPU.

At the other hand you could also try to modify the ?cooling method? option which is available in Windows advanced power options.
Go to control panel → power options.
Here click on the power plan which is currently in use.
Then click on Advanced power options and navigate to Cooling method.
Here you can change this from active to passive.

Additionally you can decrease the max CPU state to 90%-05%

Try to uninstall this fingerprint software from the device manager and from control panel -> software.
Then reboot the notebook and clean the registry using the CCleaner tool which can be downloaded fro free since its freeware software.

Then reboot once again, go to BIOS, set it to default settings pressing F9 and save the changes before accessing the BIOS.

Then boot into the system and test the notebook behavior.

Hello all

The CPU usage of my laptop shoots up to 25% (and beyond) and the fan speed increases dramatically after waking up, but only when I'm using an external mouse (Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000) - disconnecting the mouse once this has happened does not solve the problem, so I'm always forced to restart my computer if I have let it go to sleep with the mouse connected.

I've noticed that when this happens System Interrupts - Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines appears in the Resource monitor>CPU>Processes, and seems to explain the increase in CPU usage.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be most appreciated.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite R830-1GZ with Windows 7 (64 bit). This problem does not happen when I use the same mouse with another laptop (Dell with Windows XP).

Thank you very much.

I think the process which controls the MS WLan mouse does not close properly.
The system memorize this and therefore the cooling module starts to rotate faster because these process stresses the CPU.

Possibly its caused by the mouse driver?
Did you check if there is an update for the driver?

I am trying to fix my mom's computer. Apparently, she deleted some file a "Realtek\VISTA_8169" file
I think that is what triggered this problem to happen.
I tried to restore the computer to the time before this happened but the laptop said system failure error and said it could not complete the restoration.
Since the ethernet controller is a component I believe having to do with connection to the internet since the laptop is usually connected to a router wirelessly, the laptop just can't detect the wireless signal. Nothing is wrong with the internet connection since I am on my own laptop right now.
Its a driver software problem and I know I have to somehow reinstall it or something so I was wondering if someone could help.
I hope the end result does not mean that we have to purchase a new laptop.

Hi there guys,

i have a majour issue with my huawei e620 data card modem. i sold my Usb Version (The E220) because i only used it on the laptop and the PCIMCA version is perfect for it, so i only kept my E620, but i recently upgraded to a better Laptop, the HP Compaq 6910p, 2.4 ghz, 120hdd, 2gb ram, running Vista business. the problem is, this laptop doenst install the card, not at all, and this laptop is not that big of a difference form my older one, my older one was a HP Compaq NX7300, also running vista Business, both are 86x, the only difference is little higher specs, and the new one has Fingerprint reader, firewire port, sd-MMC card slot, SC slot, and S-Video out.

OK... so this is what happens, when i first inserted the Card, the popup came up, saying installing new hardware, when i clicked on it it showed the same thing twice,

NEC PCI to USB open host controller
NEC PCI to USB open host controller

but nothing else, the old laptop ran fine with the card, and it was working perfectly, same OS, and all,

so i went to Device manager, ind saw those same two things under universal serial bus controllers, but they had a "!" with a yellow triangle behind them, and if i open them, it says "ths device cannot find enough resources that it can use.(code12)" in the Device Status block, and if i click on resources it says the same....

Answer:Hp Laptop and "NEC PCI to USB open host controller" Issue, please help me.

Part of the problem here is that the XP was installed with all those other devices active so it is reserving the resources for them.
I think if you re-installed XP with the other unused devices disabled, it would allocate the resources more efficiently.

Hello everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6114 running XP. For the year that I've had it it has run great.  As of lately I haven't been able to use a CD in the DVD-R drive.  The CD tray opens, I put a CD into it, it tries to read it( I see the light turn on and hear the cd spin) but it just stops and won't recognize it.  I try to open it in "My Computer" but it just prompts me to insert a cd into the drive.  I don't know what happened in the past month to make this happen.  The catch is this.....  It will play a DVD just fine.  It recognizes it and plays it right away.  I updated the driver and even deleted the driver and started fresh.  Nothing worked. Has anyone ever heard of this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite CD/DVD issue

Could be the particular CD you put in there. However, I once had a gateway laptop need a replacement Drive put in.  Maybe someone else has a better idea.

I have a Toshiba satellite s855-044 and am having issues with the power. I have looked up on countless forums and have been able to find people with similar issues but not the same. Basically the issue is that it will not turn on sometimes and wont show any symptoms of having power. Here is what i know about it:
1. The issue only comes up when i power off the laptop while it is unplugged.
2. None of the power indicators on the front light up, however when you look at it in a pitch black room it is VERY faintly blinking (indicator for when it is plugged in)
3. It turns back on usually after 10 or so hours of messing around with it. (Pulling plug out and putting it back in. Checking connections inside, etc.)
4. I have 2 batteries as well as 2 power adapters (chargers), trying different combinations of them do not seem to make a difference.
5. I have tried the method of unplugging and removing battery and holding the power button for around a minute, no results from that method.

If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked the actual power jack connector? May be worth replacing it, since it's only a $10 part:

Hi,

I've been working on a friends A200-AHC308. It had a few viruses and was currently running XP, so I decided to reformat to XP-SP3. Prior to the reformat I attempted to back up all of his files to a USB flash drive, although the computer had problems recognizing the USB. I figured that the problem may have had something to do with a faulty driver installation so ignored it and continued with the format, having backed up his files on a DVD. After the reformat I am still having the same issue. All drivers are installed properly and nothing in Device Manager is popping up with a question mark. What happens is this: I plug the media in (whether it be an external HDD or a flashdrive) and the computer goes through its device wizard. It does one of two things:
Says the device was installed successfully although when attempting to access it through My Computer the drive does not load (it is present, although when attempting to open it I have no luck).
Says the device is not compatible.

Anyone?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 USB Issue

If you have a second USB flash drive available, plug it into the Toshiba and see if you can read from/write to it.

If you can, it's likely the drive you backed the data up on is either going bad or was corrupted by the virus(es). If this is the case, any attempt at recovering the data should be done with extreme caution. If inserted into and accessed from another PC there is a good chance it will infect it. Go to the virus and malware section of the board for specific scanning and cleaning tips for the drive before you attempt to open or transfer any data from it.

If the second (clean) USB drive doesn't work, reboot the PC with the USB drive removed and try again. If it still fails, go to http://fixitcenter.support.microsoft.com/Portal and download the Beta version of Microsoft's Fix-It Tool. XP SP3 had a few bugs; this tool fixes many of them.

Hope this helps.

My house-mate recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop machine. It appears to have a bit of an issue booting correctly.
On 60-75% of boot attempts the result is an error meesage indicating the driver for the onboard ATI display adapater could not start correctly and that the system will restart. On this second reboot the system invariably starts normally.
Any ideas on what could be the issue? Does this machine require a BIOS update?.. or perhaps it is an issue brought on by the patching of the preinstalled XP home with service pack2.

Any ideas gratefully recieved

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

Opened my daughter's laptop this morning and it seems like the LCD has "dissolved" in the left bottom of the screen. There's no identation on the screen or any sign of damage. The liquid crystal just seemed "smeared" or something in the corner. Any thoughts? I'm not a technie so sorry if I don't know all the terminology... I purchased this for her for Christmas at Office Depot so it's only a few months old. Please help! Thanks mucho!

Answer:Issue with Toshiba Satellite Screen

The LCD screen could have been damaged by placing a heavy object on the top of the closed laptop or by bumping or dropping. It doesn't take much... The LCD panel might be under warranty. Its worth checking into. Otherwise, it is expensive to replace. They cannot be repaired

So, the problem started when my dad told me various recharge lights would not come one. Low and behold after opening it up I noticed the Power Pin within the DC housing was not there, in fact it dropped directly into my hand while I was opening it... So after a great deal of experimentation in trying to fix it... I have given up, if I jiggle it for a little while the lights will come on for a second... Please look at diagram for what I believe is accurate~

The connector just behind the housing... is that a ground? my limited knowledge on, on-board circuitry prevents me from repairing this myself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 DC Issue

if you can visually seek the break, then you know where it should connect in order to repair it. You need not know the polarity. But I don't recommend repairing this yourself unless you are good with a soldering iron. Take it to a shop.

hey, everyone, ive been looking for similar problems but found none, maybe you guys can help.

i have a toshiba satellite m40 and it has no hard drive. even if it doesnt have a hard drive it should be able to boot and tell me so. my problem is:

1st. the laptop screen works sometimes. meaning the laptop turns on but the screen is off....but other times it turns on fine. now, when the screen doesnt turn on, i found that hitting it makes the screen appear and im not happy about hitting my laptop, im just trying to get it to work.

2nd. when the screen does work, the laptop gets stuck at the motherboard logo screen and does not move from there.....unless..... you hit it.

whats wrong with the dumb thing? anybody help?

oh and like the thing is, it does function, the screen does turn on and the motherboard logo screen does change but u have to really hit it a few times..... other wise it freezes or the screen wont turn on.... ive ran linux off of a live cd on it so i know for a fact im right.

Answer:Toshiba satellite m40 huge issue

It is time to have the laptop serviced by a qualified technician, or to buy a new laptop. If you are familiar with removing memory or hard drive, you can try reseating them. The video cable from the LCD panel to the motherboard may be pinched or loose

With my new network now up and running, and all devices talking to each other as they should, I probed about in the (VM supplied) Netgear Superhubs settings and discovered I can change the frequency from 2.4 to 5gz which gets me away from local interference.
My iMac, Ipad iPhone and ATV work perfectly with the setting at 5, but laptop flatly refuses to even see the network. I have a new Draytek wireless router being delivered this week and would like to use the higher setting for all devices without having to go into the admin screen and change back to 2.4 when using the lappy.
Anyone had this issue, or suggest a workaround?

Should have added....Laptop runs Windows 7 64 bit, and the network card is the Atheros with the latest drivers installed.

I have a toshiba Satellite L855-10P and my webcam was working fine until today when, during a skype video conference, it started showing black lines a bit like static and the quality decreased significantly. I used the webcam application to check if it wasn't an internet issue and the same problem occurred.

I restarted the computer and removed the protective plastic from the webcam and nothing changed. It's a brand new laptop, it's only 2 months old. Is there anything I can do to find out the nature of this problem or should I just go ahead and use the warranty?

**Edit: I changed the quality to 1280*700 and the image had great quality but when I changed it to anything lower than that quality the static came back.

Hello everyone. Nowadays, I see on this forum people are discussing about the CD/DVD issues on L30/L300/L350. I would like to share my experience on this issue and hope everyone shares your experience as well.

My laptop are Toshiba L30 PSL33 and Toshiba L300 PSLB2E. I am lucky that I have no problem with CD/DVD discs/drives as I can read/write/play CD/DVD smoothly. However, I used to have some problems with CD/DVD drive on my notebook. Here is my experience.

1) Make sure there is no other CD/DVD softwares on your computer (except the orginal software from Toshiba). Especially to those who have been used to using Nero. If you have problems, try to remove Nero and test with the one supported by Windows

2) If you still have problems, try to update the firmware of the DVD drive. It can be done by visiting the Toshiba Support Driver site (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/). Check what drive you have by looking at the Device Manager. Download the newest firmware from there and update your drive.

3) My last solution. If you have Vista pre-installed, try to get a XP version on your computer and do not install any other software. Test/copy a CD by using windows writing tool to see whether the problem is solved or not.

In my opinion. the main reasons you may encournter are: there are CD/DVD drives have XP firmware base and need to be updated so that they can be used in Vista; or there are software like Nero and PowerDVD are causing the conflict between the ACPI con... Read more

I bought this new, obviously some years ago.
XP Home and all original hardware.
Gave it to my sister about 4 years ago to run to run scientific apps that won't run on anything newer than XP.
In her possession, It was not used on a network---no internet at all.

It's screen went blank but the lights on the front of the case showed it loading/booting up.
So I attached it to an old CRT monitor. As the computer booted the screen filled with a few hundred colored vertical lines but finalized with the regular background, but no icons or start menu. Right clicking on it did nothing.

So I booted to an Acronis Boot disk and installed a known drive image I made 4 years ago that I knew was good. Same issue.

I then installed the factory image from my Toshiba Install disk and, with the CRT attached, it boots up normally with no apparent issues.

I still need to check the wiring connections of the laptop monitor but at least it's still useful with the external monitor.

I'd like to hand this back to my sister with confidence as she uses it at home to do scientific data analysis for her employer.
Any thoughts on what this issue might be, have been?
SysInfo to follow.

On startup and whenever i attempt to open Catalyst Control Centre, Windows displays the error "Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working".

Is anyone else having similar troubles.
I tried reinstalling the drivers off the toshiba site, and installing the new drivers on the ATI site and everything I could think of. Since the either drivers aren't working im not able to go above the 1024x768 resolution.

Any suggestions ?

Answer:Satellite A300 Catalyst Control Centre issue - Host application has stopped working

Hi

I googled for this error message and found many people having this issue.
It?s not related to the notebook but to the driver?
Who knows why?.

Anyway, in most cases the people solved this by new driver Catalyst installation.
You should do this;

- update your Vista to the latest state
- remove the old Catalyst from the system
- remove/uninstall the graphic card driver from the device manager
- reboot the notebook and install the Catalyst and driver again

Should run!
