My Dell Inspiron Mini 270 power indicator won't turn off

Question: My Dell Inspiron Mini 270 power indicator won't turn off

Hello Everyone!
Ive been facing a peculiar problem with my Dell inspiron mini 270 of late. Its power light wont go off even after I switch off the laptop thus indicating that it is still being charged! What is even more strange is that in such a state I cannot restart my laptop until after the power light goes off on its own after a few hours. After repeated attempts, I have come to understand that this indicates that now the battery is discharged. Now when I put the power adaptor on and switch on the laptop, it starts. This effectively means that every time I charge the battery and switch off the laptop after some work, I HAVE to wait till the battery is completely discharged to start the laptop again. Guys, guys, I am at my wits end and have extremely close to tearing off my few remaining strands of hair. Any clues anyone?

Preferred Solution: My Dell Inspiron Mini 270 power indicator won't turn off

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If the battery is removable, remove and see if the light behaves... If it does, the battery may need to be replaced

The computer is a Windows 7 Starter Dell Inspiron Mini 1012

Talked to Dell Support and they just want me to have a Dell repairman work on it, and have it shipped in, but still wanted to see if anyone here could give me some information.

The AC adapter has been tested on other computers, and it works.
Other AC adapters have been used on the computer and hasn't worked.
The computer will not power on. When AC plugged in, no lights come on.
It randomly came on for the first time in a month a minute ago, but after started up, randomly died a few minutes later, after everyone got excited that it turned on, but hasn't been able to power on since.

I've taken out the battery, and tried to turn it on without, but still nothing happened.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you for any and all help.

Answer:Issue with Inspiron Dell Mini 1012 - Won't turn on

Hi -

To me, it sounds like the charging unit, including the pins may be damaged irreversibly. Intrestringly, did it run out of the battery the last time is was fully functional - before this issue occured?

I have a dell inspiron 6000 adapter light went off, wife saiid dogs jerked it out running thru the house. got new adapter, adapter lights up, pc does nothing when power button pushed, no lights nothing. The battery has not held charge for some time. But it worked before with the same battery, so I am confused. I tore it apart after reading about magnet sensor problem, and that was a msitake as my pc does not seem to even have that same part as mentioned in the post. Any suggestions are appreciated for this newbie. I will be getting a new pc for self, but would like to keep this one for the kids.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 6000 wont turn on / power up

When the dogs jerked out the AC adapter, this probably broke the DC jack from the motherboard. This can be repaired, but you "tore it apart", maybe causing more damage

So I woke my laptop up after sleep by opening it, but I forgot it was sleeping so I accidentally pushed the power button. Then it turned of. After that I couldn't turn it back on. I tried plugging in the cable, but only the led is on (indicating that it is charging). I would remove the battery, but this model has it built in, so in order to remove it I would have to open the screws - I still have waranty for at least 5 months - won't opening it void the waranty? How do I fix this?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5547 won't turn on after power button shut down

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Removing the panel to take out the battery will not void the warranty as long as you don''t damage any parts inside :).
Remove the battery and charger and hold down the power button for 10 secs then put back the parts and let us know if it worked.
Simultaneously you can remove the memory modules as observe for any change.
Await your response.

Hi guys,
So just the last day my Dell Inspiron 7559 has been having some issues. I've had it for a year now it was brand new and when it is shut down when you try to turn it back on again, the keyboard and power light turn on but nothing shows up on the screen. I don't know if it's booting or anything. I hold down the power button for a while and it turns off and then back on, eventually after like 15 tries of this and 10 mins it sometimes turns on.
I've updated all my drivers and everything per Dell Support site and ran a full systems check and was clear.
I reset the laptop while also keeping my files.
Reinstalled new Antivirus and the like programs to see if it could possibly be that.
Specs:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0 Build 16299)
Intel Core i5-6300HQ CPU @ 2.30GHz (4 CPUs)
8192MB RAM
DirectX 12
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960M
Integrated RAMDAC
Drivers: nvldumdx.dll,nvldumdx.dll,nvldumdx.dll,nvldumdx.dll Version: 22.21.13.8205
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I have a W530 that I use mostly in the mini dock station with external monitor and keyboard. It is really annoying, that there is no power indicator on that setup. The mindock has a LED that is lid when the laptop is docked - ok - what is the point of that - it is fairly easy to see that a laptop is placed in the docking station. But there is no way at all to see if it is on! If you turn your screen off you cannot see it on your screen. And with my w530 where the graphics driver is - to say the least - challenged with frequent BSOD when attaching to external VGA projectors, and it cannot figure out to switch back to external monitors when docking, I cannot always trust that the display goes on if the PC is on. Please Lenovo - a power indicator on the docking station or on the outside of the PC and not only inside. It is common sense.

So my laptop's low battery light keeps flashing orange even when I have plugged in. Is there something I can do to stop it from flashing? I've never had a problem with this before. If you can help...GREAT!!! THanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 6000 low battery indicator

The battery is reached its expected life, you need to replace it.

If its under warranty call Dell and ask to have it replaced. You could remove it and use the wall power that way you wont see alight flashing....

When I am trying to connect my All-in-XPS - DELL XPS18 1810, to the power source it's indicator LED light is just blinking. Battery is showing 2-4% and when the charge is drained it will shut down. In the BIOS it is saying battery is still good. Is it a problem with some IC component is burnt due to voltage issues or something like that? Power adapter is also seems to be fine. We tried it with a different adapter but the result is still the same.

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

I have a Gateway 700x or something like that, I bought it back in '03. A week ago I went on vacation and booted down my computer (or thought I did), anyway when I came back and went to turn on my computer the power light was orange (which usually means sleep mode) so I held the button down to power it down. It wouldn't shut off, no fans or anything or going though and if I hit buttons on the keyboard it doesn't boot up either. - It's like it's stuck. I tried unplugging my computer but whenever you plug it back in, the light comes on orange and stays that way. I tried the test button on the PSU but that didn't do anything.
After reading a couple posts here, I replaced the internal battery and also the PSU. Still no response and the light is still orange. I tried the test button on the PSU and it started up the fans and what not but still can't get it to boot up.
Since my computer is kinda old I'm not sure what's going on with it and if it's worth trying to take it to a repair shop or to just buy a new one and slap my hard drive in it.
HELP!!

Answer:Computer won't turn on, yet power indicator is orange

When you went away on vacation did you actually unplug the PC?

And when you have tried to boot up the PC how long have you left it plugged in but not attempted to turn the PC on?

It is possible that leaving the PC plugged in for a day (say) before attempting to boot might be all that's needed.

Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

When ever I pressed the volume buttons, or caps lock button, or the wireless button I would get a small see thru popup window showing me the current setting of that button. Now the small see thru window is no longer appearing for the volume, caps, wireless...

Help. I would like the see thru windows to reappear. Would this be related to Dell QuickSet?

how do i turn the image around on the screen of a Dell inspiron mini 1018. The image is up side down on the screen

Answer:how do i turn the image around on a inspiron mini 1018

Click start, control panel, Display, down the left side click on "Change display settings" now change the orientation. Try that and see if it resolves the issue. In some cases the driver for the video controls this function, not windows, and is a little different, but see if that fixes it. Look on your task bar over to the right and see if you have an icon referencing the display settings (Intel, Nvidia, or ATI). If there is click on it and see what options you have, if the first solution fails. To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

I recently purchased a Dell SP2208WFP Flat Panel Monitor with my new PC. I am having some confusion about it's power indicator. I am used to the monitor's power going on and off when I turn a computer on or shut it down. If I shut down the computer, the power indicator on this monitor turns from blue to amber. The amber light remains on until the next time I turn on the computer.

A Dell rep said that the amber light remaining on means that there is power to the monitor, and to not woprry about it. I read somewhere in the literature that amber means sleep mode. The bottom line - when I shut down the computer shouldn't the power indictor of the monitor go off? Should I let the amber light stay on or manually turn off the monitor. Thanks Dennis

Answer:Power Indicator On Dell Monitor

the amber light means there is power to the monitor and is ready to accept signal from the computer
....totally normal, i turn the monitor off and on accordingly with the puter!

Just bought this model a month ago. At first, I thought there isn't any LED Indicator in this model for charging/ HDD activity modulation but later when I saw the guide, I noticed an indicator just below the touchpad. But, the catch is that it isn't glowing at all. Even while charging, I tried the hotkey combination (Fn + H) to toggle that light but to no avail. Any idea as to how to activate this light?

Hello,

I've been asked to look at my friends netbook, its a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and won't boot up correctly.

The netbook switches on, goes passed the Windows XP screen and just opens the desktop only showing the wallpaper.

I have looked on many forums, and people recommend Ctrl + Alt + Del to oen the task manager and then run new task > explorer.exe. This does load the desktop icons but nothing seems to be responsive. I also deleted some Reg files instructed on several forums
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplorer.exe
Once these keys are deleted the desktop and internet explorer should come back to life. But it doesnt.

My friend then told me that she doesnt care if I restored the netbook to its factory settings, as she didnt have anything of importance on the hard drive.

I thought excellent this will save some hardwork. Looked at instructions online people said Ctrl + F11 to boot up the restore screen, doesnt work, also tried Ctrl + F8 as some suggested this, nothing works tried every combination.

I was then told I should use an XP boot disk, but not having a cd drive doesnt really help.

What can I do to solves this problem, apart from buying a new laptop, any guidance would be much appreciated.

hi i was wondering if someone could help i have a dell inspirion mini 10 i have bought second hand and when i switch it on it loads a screen then says "operating system not found" and i have been told it does not have a hard drive in it which i have been told it is a little sd card size drive that goes in the back under battery is this true ??????

Answer:help with my dell inspiron mini 10

Greetings kev1994, to TSF.

Your Dell? Inspirion Mini 10 does have a Hard Drive (albeit not the same size of one that's in a Desktop); who ever told you that it does not, is incorrect.

You can view the Inspirion Mini 10 Guides here. Those guides will show you the location and size of the HDD.

The fact that you get the message "operating system not found", means that the person that sold you this unit has wiped the Hard Drive, so there is no data on the HDD.

You will have to purchase your own Geniune Microsoft? Windows CD to install the Operating System yourself.
Considering the age of the unit, one would suspect that Windows? XP, or Windows? Vista? would be the Operating Systems that would suit the machine.
All the necessary Drivers are also available from the link above.

Please post back with your thoughts/queries.

Kind Regards,

Hi guys, this is my very first forum post ever in my life and I hope I get super help.So there I was working on my computer one day. I was downloading a youtube video with a program that has scheduled shutdown computer option upon download completion. I turned that on and turned off my monitor. After about 1-2 mins I noticed the power and HDD indicator lights in front of the CPU casing is turned off so I thought for some reason my pc probably turned off. I tried turning it on by pressing the power button and at the same time turned my monitor on. It turned on with a light-brown colored background so I quickly hit restart but then it won't turn on. I plugged by USB in hoping it would try to boot from the USB (my bios settings primary boot is set to removable devices). Then I pressed the power button again but THIS TIME I noticed that a very bad wire-burning type smell is coming out so I instantly turned EVERYTHING off. Later I opened my CPU casing and tried smelling the devices and found that probably the smell is coming from my second (and newer) hard disk that is about 10 months old. So, finding no hope and ideas I threw myself to computerhope.com's forum from my school laptop...please anyone help me out ASAP!Note that when I still try to turn my the pc on the power supply fan, the ethernet lights and even the DVD-rom drive works; so I am totally confused! My pc is  Intel Core2duo, 2GB ram/memory, 256 internal video memory, primary hard-disk=160gb and secondary... Answer:CPU/Power Supply fans work but indicator light in front doesn't turn on.

Minimal boot is where I'd start. If motherboard has integrated video use that, disconnect all drives, and just have the motherboard set up with 1 ram stick, and try to boot. If you get it to boot then shut it down and add 1 component and boot up again if no boot then you found the cause if it boots then move to next component to add and repeat. If no boot on minimal boot, then swap single Ram stick with another if you had more than 1 stick. If still no minimal boot swap power supply. If still no minimal boot its something local to motherboard. Unistall CPU and check for damage and reinstall it, apply thermal compound and heatsink and try another boot. If still no boot, I'd buy or use a different motherboard unless you have a POST card to work with and want to troubleshoot deeper.Cooked component smell is not a good thing, if you can localize the smell and find burned traces or parts that would be a help in determining if this can be saved or if you need to start a new build. I have only seen one hard drive smoke before and that was my friend way back when SATA drives first came out and it had a P connection as well as SATA power. He hooked up both and cooked it. On a small warning in the box it warns not to plug power to both. I'd doubt if your drive is one of these drives given that you mentioned that it is 10 months old.

Has anyone had any experience with a Dell Inspiron Mini 12 (its model number is actually 1210)? In particular how well does it play video on Windows XP; say a ripped standard DVD or downloaded video of 640*360 resolution.

I have borrowed one from a colleague but it runs a non-optimal version of Ubuntu (it came with Vista Basic). I would really like some feedback from someone who has one running Windows XP with all the supplied drivers. This one's video drivers are very poor and you can't set it to the native resolution of 1280*800. If I try to play a 640*360 clip in full screen mode on Totem Movie Player if fails miserably.

From the reviews I've read I'm pretty sure that it is quite capable of playing standard video I would just like some reassurance from someone you has tried it out.

I really like its form factor. It is only slightly heavier than my Acer Aspire One with a great screen and keyboard.

Thanks in advance.

What is the model number of your dell inspiron mini ?
if their is a best buy near you take it to them and ask them to open it up and reapply some cpu grease and clean the fans.
Their rates differ from state to state, but here in ga it cost 35.00 for every half an hour it takes to do that.

This new netbook has no space to defragment the drive. No pictures, music files or anything else taking up the space. Can I attach a usb external drive and export programs to free space? Also, the battery wont charge?

Answer:Dell Mini 9 Netbook Inspiron 910

Well, after more research on this netbook I understand it is mainly for use to surf and check Email, not much else. I may need to delete some programs installed such as Power point viewer and an Adobe program. This may free up some space so I can defragment. Can anyone else chime in?

Hi,

My Dell inspiron mini that is only a few months old gave out on us a few nights ago. We turned it back on and it appeared to be restarting, the windows symbol came up and it was loading but then a blue screen pops up saying that the computer has been shut down. We have run all the tests, and can't find any problems. The mini laptop that we have does not have a cd drive in it I have tried putting the windows disk on to a USB and booting it through that but it won't work. Please help! Any suggestions?

So Dell made a really terrible decision.  They have a transparent strip in the power button for an LED light to indicate if the power is on.  A power indicator is a given in any laptop, no matter how cheap it is.  However, Dell in all of it's genius decided to not include an LED bulb on laptops up to the Inspiron 7000 Series, despite leaving a transparent slot for it.  Seriously, what happened to this brand?!?  Do children make these laptops now?
I want to fix this, as my laptop is no longer returnable and a power indicator is absolutely necessary.  So the only thing I can think of is replacing it with one from the 7000 Series somehow (with some help probably).
This is a Dell Inspiron 5559.  I also have an Inspiron 5547.  Not sure which exact 7000 model I should get the part for...
Are they compatible?
Is there an easier way? Like how Fn+H turns on the hard drive indicator?
Thanks.

Answer:Can I replace a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series power board with a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series power board?

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

Good Morning all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (7559) Laptop.  When I went to go power on the laptop, the keyboard lights up, but nothing appears on screen.  I also noticed the "Battery Light" indicator on the laptop was flashing.  It would flash white four times and then flash orange two times.  In the beginning I thought my laptop had died so I went ahead and charged the laptop.  I was able to charge the laptop, so I'm thinking that the battery is still good.  I'm hoping someone out here on these forums can help me diagnose and resolve this issue before I contact tech support.  Any information you guys/gals can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi there! Very shiny and bran spanking new to this forum, apologies if posted in the wrong section - seems appropriate ..

Dell Inspiron Mini 1011
Windows XP

Anywho, I've recently been experiencing slowness on my netbook so decided to do a system restore. I honestly thought it would be as easy as doing it on my Packard Bell (desktop machine) but it isn't! I really don't want to feel like I'm bugging everyone with what could be such a simple problem but believe me it isn't! I googled the hell out of this all I got was either that Dell Inspiron doesn't have a System Restore (BS in my opinion), or you have to press CTRL + F11 when the Dell Logo appears on the start up screen or it's F8 (for Vista only I think).

So OK, I've tried all of the above, including the two commands displayed on the loading screen (F2 Setup, F12 System Boot (i think something or other :| ) and so far what I got is nil! What do I do!? This drives me insane! And the fact that the netbook is already slow at start ups doesn't help, yes I've disables all of the unneeded start up programs but it doesn't help.

Bottom line is how do I perform a complete System Restore on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10(11)

I've backed up my files (My Docs, Desktop and Favourites) on to an external hard drive!

Also when the loading screen displays the F12 & F2 button is it necessary for me to press the Fn button to get the F keys working (F12 + F2)?

Thanks ever s... Read more

Answer:Dell Inspiron mini BSOD Multiple IRP

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

My Inspiron Mini netbook has suddenly had its screen colors whacked out. This just started happening today. All of the sudden, all white (#FFFFFF) becomes pink (as in the standard transparent color) and all black (#000000) becomes green. This only happens to pixels that are exactly white or black.

Also, the screen resolution is messed up somehow - I set it to the usual setting of 1024x768, but the screen stretches beyond the bottom of the screen - only the top half of the start menu shows up at the bottom left.

I have two operating systems, and this problem occurs in both OS's and in the BIOS.

Finally, this problem occasionally goes away for up to a few seconds at a time, only to return the same way. This started happening while browsing the web.

I'm sure this is a hardware problem because it happens no matter what software is running.

Please help!

Hi all,

Ok dont know if this is the correct place to post this or if anyone can help but here goes.

I have a dell mini 1018 which got dropped and now has HDD issues. This happened in july 2012. I tried recovering my files and it didn't work. SO i put it in the cupboard and was going to send it away to recover my files but since it was a hardware fault the thought of ?300 for physical recovery made me a little sick. Anyway, thought i'd give it another go and luckly i have managed to recover all my files. I dont care about my programs as it was fairly new and not much on there.

The netbook contains 1 HDD with 2 Partitions

1 c:\ (OS)
2 d:\ (recoevery) about 10gb

The netbook doesn't have a cd/dvd drive and instead uses a recovery partition. I have brought the exact same HDD and am trying to image the drive but i am getting CRC errors.

My question is if i manage to image both the partitions and the recovery partition has no CRC erros then i should be able to use the recovery to reset back to factory settings on the new HDD ?

Im using DriveImageXML to backup each partition but how would i loading them onto the new HDD, would i have to partition the drive first ? i guess it would have to match the same setup as the original.

DOes anyone have any experience in this or know where i could go to to find out ?

Just to clarify...

Computer dropped, files recovered (where are they stored now?), bought new HDD, can't clone?

Hello, I am trying to connect a Dell Inspiron Mini to my home wireless network. It was working last week with no problems. The status icon shows that it is connected to the network and gives an IP address. However, when I try and view a webpage I get "The page cannot be displayed". I have tried to "Diagnose Connection Problem" and it says there are no issues.

I have tried the ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, and ipconfic /renew and that spits out a new IP address but still no connection. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Dell Inspiron Mini will not connect to internet

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Connections. Right click your Local Area Connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP) hit Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address Automatically is checked as well as Obtain a DNS Server Address Automatically. Browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc open the Hosts file with Notepad. Delete any lines after
127.0.0.1 localhost
Save the file. Do the ipconfig release, flushdns, and renew again.

I have a Dell inspiron one 2330 all in one and was wanting to connect it to a mac mini to use ut as the monitor. Does anyone know if the HDMI port is compatible with connecting it to a mac mini?

Answer:connecting MAC Mini to dell inspiron one 2330

I think the HDMI socket on the Inspiron is an output. Dell says it is no longer available so doesn't publish specs but this review refers to the HDMI connector for driving a second monitor -

Answer:Os not found on dell inspiron mini 10 notebook

Your hard drive may have failed. If you can enter the setup screens then see if there is a listing for it. As far as the flash drive issue you have not provided enough information. If you have an ISO of Windows 7 on a flash drive and you have the boot order set to boot to the flash drive then it should work if the hard drive is functional.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron MIni 10 off of ebay. It seemed to be perfect, then I began surfing the internet and the antivirus program started causing trouble. It turned out to be malware so I uninstalled it and it worked fine. Then I went to youtube an the computer randomnly froze. Now I try to start it up and it gets to the Windows XP Home screen, then freezes. It used to work in Safe Mode. I even did the system restore. Now it gets past the dell load up screen, but then displays a black screen. It will not go any farther and now safe mode doesn't even work. I did diagnostics and got no error codes.

I wonder if someone can help me with this problem...

Several months ago I bought a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 through an online auction site because the seller had listed it as having Windows XP Home Edition, which was one of the main reasons I'd bidded on it in the first place. However, when I received the netbook I found it had actually been upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium (and apparently an illegal copy at that). Incidentally, the only reason I didn't return it to the seller and ask for a refund is because I got the netbook for a fraction of what I'd expected to pay for it and to be fair, even though it doesn't have the OS I want, it's still in immaculate condition.
The thing is, I'd like to, if possible, reinstall Windows XP Home Edition, which clearly was the original OS on this machine. Obviously, with it being a netbook (i.e. no CD/DVD Drive) there are no software discs with it. It does, however, still have the 25 digit Product Code on the sticker on the base of the netbook. I was hoping it would be a simple case of me going to the Dell Support website and using the Service Tag to download and install Windows XP Home edition, but it seems it isn't as straightforward as that.
Just to give you a list of the things I've tried so far. I do have a genuine copy of Windows XP Home Edition on CD, which I've tried copying to a USB drive (using a ISOtoUSB program) and attempted to install it on the Dell Inspiron Mini by changing th... Read more

Hi, i have two questions.
first: i did not find the bletooth device in this laptop, but i read on the internet, that it should be available in this model.
second and more important issue is, that the laptot is not able to connect to any network via Wi-Fi nor via cable.
It was ok in the past, but now it seems to find the wireless SSID fine and connect to it with the encryption key but it has trouble acquiring an IP address.
I am trying all wi-fi networks available in my neighbourhood and hotspot which i made from my phone and nothing works. Also as i mentioned, the connection it is not working via cable.
I have used this laptot in past also in foreign countries, for example in Vietnam or Cannada and everything worked fine.
Operation system is genuine seller - installed. Win xp service pack 3 home edition.
All other devices, like mobile phone, other laptops are able to connect to my wi-fi. So i don't think there is a problem with my Wi-fi network.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Answer:Dell Inspiron mini 10 can not connect to internet

You should check your device manager to see what bluetooth you may have installed, and if there are any devices that may need driver updates or are unrecognized by the system.

As for the IP issue. There are many things that can contribute to this. If you have run adware removal recently, some programs can actually remove or reconfigure components essential for network operation. winsockfix is a common tool used to fix this. Ive gone through it myself (while working on a family member's computer who was experiencing similar issues).

You may also try uninstalling and then reinstalling your network card in the device manager. Some people suggest checking your password or removing saved passwords, but seeing as you have already tested multiple networks, the issue is not that.

Usually a corrupted driver. Running chkdsk /r from the command prompt might fix it. Hit F8 to access advanced options menu then select command prompt, and type chkdsk /r and hit enter.

Answer:Dell Inspiron Mini water problem

I can tell you what I would do; but, it is only a shot in the dark.

Remove the battery. Place the laptop slightly open and on its front edges over a central air outlet register in a position that it looks like an "A" frame with its apex at the top. Leave it there for a couple of days.

If that doesn't help, you're in for a big repair bill from a professional shop, or maybe a new laptop.

This is the method I have used for years to thoroughly dry keyboards, including laptop keyboards, that were so excessively dirty or soaked with sugary drinks that I had to literally wash them submerged in hot, soapy water. I used this method also on a laptop once and it also came alive after a couple of days.

I've got a Mini 9, Inspiron 910 with some issues.  I had a 3 cell battery pack that wouldn't charge anymore around 2 months after the warranty expired.  I purchased a 6 cell battery that was compatible in another Mini 9 I had, but would not work in this particular one.  I flashed the BIOS to the latest and greatest (A05 or A06), and found no change.  I then proceeded to try and downgrade to A00 to see if that would work.
Where the first flash was successful, the second downgrade flash started, then the screen went blank.  Power was supplied via a UPS and the power cord or power buttons were not touched.  Now the Mini 9 will not power on.  I don't have a battery in it, and it's plugged in with a known working charger.  No LED's light up and it simply won't power on.  I've pretty much accepted that this is a paper weight at this point, but is there anything I can try?  I've had it unplugged and without battery for a week, and that didn't do anything.
Thanks in advance,Spectrum

Answer:Inspiron Mini 910 BIOS Flash - Now won't power on

There are two options- have the BIOS chip removed and flashed externally or replace the system board. Either procedure is likely to cost almost as much as a replacement netbook - so is likely not worth the expenditure.

I saw that there were others with this issue. I already tried things like resetting the ram, taking out my battery. Even with my laptop plugged in, not lights are showing up and the power button isnt starting anything. I tried to listen and hear if anything was happening, but no luck. I just to get help if there is anything I can do to trouble shoot or just figure out what the issue is so I can get it fixed . I was running Windows 10 on there.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R won't turn on ! No lights will turn on .

Hi PARTH511722,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Could you try powering on with another battery?
Remove the memory and disconnect the HDD and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
If the adapter led is stable when connected to the system and there are no signs of power, then the motherboard is suspected faulty.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I'm pretty confused, there is "Dell Power Manager Service" for  Inspiron 7577: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=DY59W
But there is not "Dell Power Manager Service" for Inspiron 7567.

Is here real hardware difference what limits the using of "Dell Power Manager Service" for Inspiron 7567 or it's *** Apple-style marketing move?

I recently installed FF7 onto the notebook and played it for a while. The game crashed and I exited it. I returned to the desktop to find the resolution have been extremely altered, 340 x240 I think, and I can't gain access to anything on the desktop as the mouse icon doesn't cross the whole screen now for some reason. I was able to get to the desktop appearance but it didn't allow me to change it, just told me what the current settings were. I have tried to reboot, using the disk provided, but there is no disk drive. Does anyone know how to solve the resolution problem, like how to return it to factory setting? Failing this, does anyone know how I can get the disk contents onto a removable disk so I can reboot that way?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Dylan Tawse.

Hello, I am using a Dell Inspiron mini netbook with factory specs (as in just out of the box no modifications to the hardware or operating system) I am running Windows XP Home edition, and I am using a TP-Link wireless 2 in one modem (router and modem combined). My roomates are not experiencing any wireless internet problems so I do not believe it is the modem/router, my wireless keeps disconnecting me constantly and I am not sure what is causing the problem.

Thank you for taking your time to read this and thanks in advance for any advice that can be given.

A customer brought me this mini laptop to repair because it wouldn't boot. When I turn it on it starts to boot, then it gets to a blank screen with "Microsoft Corporation" written across the bottom and that's as far as it gets. It will not go into any of the safe mode options, always hanging at Classpnp.sys. Last know config does nothing. Startup repair does not help. Windows repair disk hangs at the same blank screen. I also ran Hiren's boot cd and removed 2 viruses but it still won't boot. I put the hard drive in a full size laptop with a dvd drive and was actually able to run Windows repair disk. I finally got it to boot to login screen in the full size laptop but got a BSOD. I then shut down and removed the drive and put it back in the mini but I still end up at the same blank screen. I guess my main problem is, no matter if I try to boot Windows, a repair cd, or even a repair flash drive, I get the same results...It hangs at the blank screen with "Microsoft Corporation" at the bottom. You guys have any ideas how to fix this thing? I thought about just Re-installing Windows but I can't do that either because as soon as the Windows Install disk hits that same screen, it hangs.

My father is looking to buy a new laptop. He wants something which is very light. He is currently looking at Dell Inspiron Mini 12.The only downside with this laptop is that it has only 1 GB RAM and it doesn't have any optical drive. What is your opinion about the Intel Atom Z530 processo provided in this laptop?

The laptop will be mainly used for viewing PPT presentations, some internet surfing, Word processing, etc.

Is the above laptop a good choice? What are the other options for him in the lightweight laptops range? His budget is around $650 (35000 INR).

Edit: Please mention the price of the laptop(s) you recommend.

Samsung NC10 (top rated)
Advent 4211c

Neither have a CD drive but both are superb. You can always add a slimline external CD/DVD drive later powered by a USB port. If lightweight is paramount it's about the only way to go.

I personally have the Advent 4211c and it will do all you say including playing videos and DVD's with no problems. Both these Netbooks have the Intel Atom processor and both are highly recommended. They are not short on extras either, check them out via Google.

My Mini will not boot up past the dell logo and intial boot i get an error message that says:

PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
operating system not found

There are no cable pluged in to it other than the power cord.
I went into the BIOS and the HDD reads Omb.

Anyone have teh magic answer?

Answer:Dell Inspiron Mini 9 No operating system found?

Hi Capi580,

It sounds as if you're experiencing hard drive failure. You can try to re-seat the drive, but the fact that the BIOS can see the drive but sees zero data/space leads me to believe the drive is dead. Is the computer still under warranty? Dell is pretty good about sending out replacement parts.

You can check the warranty status of your net book at support.dell.com. In the upper right hand corner, there's a drop down menu that says warranty information > warranty status.

Dell's technical support number is 1-877-293-1197. Have your express service code from the bottom of the net book ready. you're going to speak to a tech who's going to walk you through a few trouble shooting steps. after he determines your HD is bad, they'll usually send you out a replacement drive, assuming the computer is under warranty.

FYI, PXE is for booting from the network. The computer is only trying that since it can't read the HD.

My mom's Dell mini has stumped me. It boots directly into Windows (Win Starter 7) only after standing a long time or sometimes after a high number of re starts.
It normally boots and pauses at the DELL logo with loading bar/indicator indefinitely.
F2 and F12 doesn't work for entering boot menu or to enter setup. Pressing any other key like space bar or the down arrow key will cause the bios settings to load.
Making any changes to the Bios, saving and exiting (F10) just results in the same DELL logo screen. I have tried changing SATA settings from AHCI to ATA and back.
Here is the kicker: If you enter the BIOS settings and exits without saving, Windows boots immediately without issues.
I checked the hard drive and there are no issues.
Please help......

You shouldn't have both installed. Choose one and uninstall the other. If Norton is a trial version, I would definitely remove that.

Once uninstalled, run CCLeaner. Then go to the AVG web site and see if you can update.

I have an Inspiron 3050 Mini and every time I plug the power adapter into it the power adapter shuts down.  I unplug if from the cpu, unplug it from the wall, plus it back into the wall and I get a power indicator on the power adapter again.  When I then plug it back into the cpu, we start the same process all over again.  Tried a universal power adapter and it does the same thing any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,

My computer was working fine at home, and I had to move it into school. So, I put the computer in the car and brought it to school. There wasn't any sort of bump or anything that could've damaged the computer, but for some reason the computer won't start up.

When I push the power button, all the fans (including CPU) start up, the LEDs of the computer turn on and everything looks good for about 2 seconds, then the computer shuts down. I tried unplugging peripherals from the power supply, and nothing seemed to work until I decided to unplug the Mini ATX power cable (the four pin cable that plugs directly into the mobo, correct me if this isn't the mini ATX cable), and then it stayed on for awhile. Of course, since that cable wasn't in, my video card wasn't powered, so there wasn't much that happened.

Is this a motherboard short or a power supply short? I don't have another power supply handy to try and fix it, and I was hoping I could get a response as to what is most likely the culprit here.

Thanks in advance.

I've been working on a friends Dell Inspiron mini 1011. Initially She could not get onto he wireless network.
She had someone else get rid of malware on it. I'm not sure what they did, but there were three devices in
Device Manager- including the wireless card- that were not installed.
One device was marked unknown and is the only one I cannot figure out after looking through Dell's
driver page using servicetag. The device Instance ID is ACPI\CPL0002\2&DABA3FF&0. Looking at its
properties, I see it has a status code 1. Microsoft says "This is very common with universal serial bus (USB) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) 1394 composite devices...." The System Information tool > components > Problem Devices shows nothing.
Google revealed it is most commonly fixed by installing smart battery or battery meter software. No luck with that. It MAY be bluetooth- BT is enabled in BIOS. WIDCOMM software does not detect a BT device.
I'm including setupapi log as an attachment

You have to find out the device you recently attached to your computer. Under what category is it in the device manager? Specify this and I may find you the drivers that may help you solve the problem. Also state your motherboard model

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1011. It has installed on it Windows 7 Starter 32 bit. I'm trying to do a complete system reset on it to wipe everything and bring it back to factory settings. The computer doesn't have a cd/dvd drive. I don't have an external cd/dvd drive. The computer doesn't have a restore partition.

From what I gather I need to download or create the iso for Windows 7 Starter. Herein lies my problem. I can't find this iso. I can find the iso for home premium and professional, but not for starter.

Another question would is will my product key work with windows home premium or only with the starter???

I do have written down my product key.

Any suggestions?

There are only two things that come to mind for purchasers of OEM (Dell, Lenovo, etc.) systems:

   a.  If you have a legitimate, licensed version of Windows lying around unused...do a clean install and rid yourself of the additional junk which OEMs install.

   b.  Install the maximum amount of RAM which the system will accommodate.
