"Wireless PC card" adapter? USB or External type ll slot or ANYTHING

Question: "Wireless PC card" adapter? USB or External type ll slot or ANYTHING

Looking for usb or serial external PCMCIA type ll slot.

Now what im tring to do, is...

I currently use my cell phone with a data cable to connect to any computer as a modem. then i can dial out using a special service from alltel called Acess mobile link (slightly higher speeds than regular dialup and this eliminates the middle man and i have unlimited data download) Anyways... they also offer a PC card for type ll slots (common on laptops not on PCs) witch is setup to basicaly do the same thing that my cellphone is doing only i can not find any thing that would allow me to use the card with out having a type ll slot. ANYTHING would be nice. like a "usb adapter" would be nice, or even an "external type ll slot".

Any ideas besides "buying a laptop" would be nice

Preferred Solution: "Wireless PC card" adapter? USB or External type ll slot or ANYTHING

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: "Wireless PC card" adapter? USB or External type ll slot or ANYTHING

Not sure if I am understanding your right or not....

But would something like THIS do the trick?

It'll give you a type II PCMCIA slot in the back of your computer.

I have purchased an older IBM Thinkpad that has been upgraded to Windows 2000 Pro. When I am in range of a known public Wi-fi network, or nearby to my home QSL modem (that has a built in router), the computer does not indicate that it has located an available network. This is when using, separately, both a Wi-fi card and a USB wireless adapter. (I have installed the required drivers.) When I consult the network connection information, it says, in either case: network cable unplugged. I can connect to the Internet via my home modem, if I plug the computer in directly, using an ethernet cable. But this does not solve the issue of being able to use a public network, when away from home.
I have also tried to set up a new network, but Windows 2000 does not seem to offer "setting up a wireless network" as an option. Any ideas?

Answer:Using either Wi-fi card/USB wireless adapter: "network cable unplugged"

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

ok, so im at a hotel internet cafe in brazil, and i notice that below the normal floppy drive (external 3.5"i assume) there is another slot, which is occupied by a memory stick reader. this reader services Memory Stick Duos, something called CF, SD cards, and something called SM, 4 cards in total, with a button on the other side of the CF one.

i plug m memory stick duo adapter in with my Memory Stick Pro Duo inside, and i cant find it on my computer. there is a light that is labeled as "Access" on the top, and it doesnt blink when i plug it in.

any idea on whats wrong, and if this could be a software fix? i could change that on this computer if needed.

also, anyone know how to change the language on a Windows XP Professional computer? its in spanish and i will operate better in english

Answer:HELP: Memory Card Readers in External 3.5"slot

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Make sure everything is connected okay and try a standard memory stick.

As for the language:

"Select the appropriate Menus and dialogs language from the Regional Options applet in Control Panel. The Menus and dialogs drop down list will display all the installed languages."

"The card supplied was not recognized. Please check that the card is inserted correctly, and tightly."

I ran some updates on an employee's computer and now when I start it up, I receive this error if the aircard is in the PC Card slot. I understand it's misinterpreting it as being a security card or whatever the case may be but I don't understand why or how to remedy it.

Anyone with a similar experience or that can shine a guiding light?

I bought the D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band USB Adapter (Model: DWA-160) and installed the drivers and such, and my computer detects the actual USB Adapter fine, but the software that came with the device doesn't, and gives me the message "Wireless Adapter Not Found!"... It does say that it's compatible with XP/Vista, and I'm on 7, so maybe there's a problem there?

I checked for special Windows 7 drivers for the device but I couldn't find anything. I phoned my internet service provider for help, as well as the D-Link help line and neither gave me anything that worked. I've uninstalled/installed it several times, trying different variations and nothing seems to work. It's not the device itself that's malfunctioning because the exact same thing happened to the one I traded in for this one, same model, same results. Also, my USB ports work fine (I've tested it) and my router is not far, and has a strong signal to where my desktop is. I've even connected my Nintendo DS/Wii to it easily from the same distance.
I'm at a loss for what I have to do... All I want is to connect to my router and have access to internet. I hope someone can help me!

P.S. If you need any specifications on my hardware, etc just let me know.

Answer:"Wireless Adapter Not Found!" - Internet Adapter Problem

There are Windows 7 drivers here: You need to determine which version of the adapter you have to obtain the correct drivers.

Hi all
Previously the  "Save Picture"  box would put a web generated title in the box and automatically selected JPEG.  Now the title box reads "untitled" and the only file options offered are "png" & "bmp"

Please note that a similar post has appeared, but the solution did not match the fault.  I'm seeking to restore the automatic response to save picture, that might have been upset by antivirus clean-up programme.

Thank youin advance for considering my problem

I installed Win7 32 and Win7 64 on partitions "C" and "D" respectively. I have deleted Win32 and have unallocated space. I want to know if there is a way to move the "D" partition to the unallocated space and still have it bootable.

Answer:How to move "D" partition" to "C" partiion slot

When you boot into Win64, you should see it designated as "C" -- as that is the default drive letter for the Windows native OS partition.

The bigger problem is that, if the boot loader was in the old "C" partition, it's gone now, and unless you have either a Win7 install DVD, or you made a Win7 Repair CD, you will not be able to boot Win7.

If you can't get into Win7, you can purchase a Win7 Repair CD image from the following link and make a bootable CD from it: Windows 7 Recovery Disk and Repair Disc Download

One feature I really liked in XP was the ability to look in a folder through My Computer and sort the files by extension. For example if I wanted to get all .jpg files to one side of the folder as I looked for a file, I could click View, Arrange Icons By, Type and make that happen. I don't see that feature in Windows 7. I'm using W7Pro and can't find that or a similar feature anywhere. Is it here and I just haven't found it? TIA

Hello All,

I started a few weeks ago on the PowerShell programing and I got my answer from here only. So am putting up the error that I am getting now to get some help again.

Scenario : I wrote a script that checks a Folder on a server and counts the number of files in it.Then when it finds the resulting number to be more then a specific value(threshold) it sends up a mail to the required alias. To break it all along the portion to send a mail is generated through DBmail using another .PS1 file.

In the PS1 file containing the main checking of number of files I am trying to pass 2 parameters :

1. Folder path on the server
2. the Threshold value of number of files

Now when I created a job to run this powershell script as :

& "C:\PowerShell\Power.PS1" \\XXXX\\c$\Documents and Settings\ABC\Local Settings\Temp 10

IT fails with the error :

A job step received an error at line 1 in a PowerShell script. The corresponding line is '& "C:\PowerShell\Power.ps1" \\XXXX\\c$\Documents and Settings\ABC\Local Settings\Temp 10'. Correct the script and reschedule the job. The error information returned by PowerShell is: 'Cannot convert value "and" to type "System.Int32". Error: "Input string was not in a correct format." '. Process Exit Code -1. The step failed.

I really can not move forward on this.

Please help.

Answer:PowerShell issue ('Cannot convert value "and" to type "System.Int32")

Just to add for reference Below is the code for the Power.Ps1 file that I have used :

# check that the directory exists.
$does_directory_exist = (Test-Path $directory_string)

# if it does, then continue

I recently bought my son a D-Link DWA-25 USB Wireless adapter for his desktop but I can't seem to get it to work. Not matter what I do (I have tried every bit of advice this wonderful forum has to offer) and so for all I get is "Acquiring Network Address." When I run ipconfig, it returns and ip address of and a subnet mask of Customer service for D-Link and Qwest were useless (spent most of the time blaming each other), so any help you guys and gals can lend me would be stupendous.

Answer:Stuck on "Acquiring Network Address" for Wireless Adapter on Windows XP

(from a JohnWill post)

IP addresses of are normally caused by one of the following.

1. DHCP Service not running.
2. Duplicate IP address on the network.
3. Bad NIC card drivers.
4. Defective NIC hardware.

1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.
2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.
3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.
4. Replace the Network Interface Card.

Ok, first off I would just like to say that this is my first thread post on this forum so sorry if I have done something wrong or am missing vital information. My problem is that I am trying to connect to my college campus's wireless internet. I will give more specific details in a bit. Basically, I was watching YouTube before going to class and shut down my PC before I left. I was connected to the internet then and it was working fine. When I got back is when I started getting problems. I booted up my computer as I usually do but instead of automatically connecting to my school's network, it didn't connect at all. When I go down to the wifi signal on the bottom right and choose the network and hit connect, it fails. This is what it reads: "Windows was unable to connect to (network name.)" I have tried going to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections and disabling and enabling everything and that did not work. I should also tell you that all the devices in this window have a red "X" next to them. I also tried all of Windows "troubleshooting problems." What I don't get is that my phone connects just fine, as well as everyone else on campus. I'm getting a bit frustrated because I am quite knowledgeable when it comes to computers and this sort of thing. I even custom built my own desktop at home. Here are the specs of the laptop I am having trouble with:

Network Connections and disabling and enabling everything and that did not work. I should also tell you that all the devices in this window have a red "X" next to them.

Can we get a screen shot? I know what you mean but a pic would be nice.
In the meantime uninstall all the devices from device manager and let windows find them again. (you don't have to remove the driver for now)

Hi everyone, thank you for taking a moment to read my thread. I have a problem with my TP Link WN722N "150 Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter". I have used this adapter for about a year with no problems. Today, I turned on my computer, and my taskbar showed the icon for, "Not connected no connections available" I thought this was weird, so I unplugged the adapter, put it back in, same message. Tried a different USB port. Same message. Restarted, same message. Re-installed drivers, same message. Tried on a different computer also running windows 10, adapter works fine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could troubleshoot my problem further?

Can you see adapter in device manager? I saw the comment that you re-installed drivers.

Hi all, so I have gotten the above message when trying to connect to my wireless, and it's saying I have limited access to the connection. I know it's not a router/modem issue as all other computers in the house are connecting without trouble. This all happened after I attempted to uninstall "Adaware" which I had installed to find and remove a nasty keylogger. Halfway through uninstalling I got a blue screen of death, and when I rebooted, I couldn't connected to the wireless. Anyone know of a potential solution?

Perhaps it's just not doable; but, I am going to ask some of you wonderful experts. I am hopefull to get some resolution on this one way or the other

I have an Alienware Auroa R3 machine that has an onboard Ralink 802.11BGN 1T1R networking card. Yesterday, I purchased a Netgear router (Model WNDR3400v2). I set up both the G and the N networks and I can connect to the G with no issues at all. The issue is that I cannot see the N connection in my windows wireless connection area to connect to it.

Here is info from my router:

Since I know the SSID of the N, I tried to set it up manually. This doesn't seem to work either. It is just not possible for the card I have to see the N network? If it is possible, how do I connect to it?

Here is what I can see to connect to:

Here is the manual entered N connection I can't connect to:

Thanks for any help at all. I'd love to use that extra speed.

I think your a little confused, what you are setting up is a 2.4Ghz network and a 5Ghz network, referring to them as N and G isn't very accurate because each frequency is capable of working with either N or G or both at once.

I believe the reason you can't see the 5Ghz network is because your wireless card isn't a dual band version.

You would typically need to purchase another card "dual band" that can handle both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequency's. After that you will be able to see both ba... Read more

I was presented with an issue late last week, which had to do with wireless connectivity on an Acer Extensa 5220 Laptop running Windows XP Professional.

While ethernet connections work perfectly, whenever I attempt to connect to the wireless network my client has in his house, it stalls at "Acquiring Network Address".

I've logged into the router from another machine in the house, and I can see that the router is configured to run DHCP, and DHCP is indeed working. (It lists the Acer laptop, and specifies the IP leased to the Acer laptop.)

A little bit of history: This machine was recently updated to Service Pack 3. I was able to log onto the wireless network AFTER updating it to Service Pack 3, and copied files across the wireless network too. (possibly before rebooting though, can't recall)

I've rebooted the router, and it made no difference. This router has allowed for a PPPoE connection to be established over wireless by the machine in question in the past.

I've since tried the following suggestions made by JohnWill in another post:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Over and above this, I've attempted to work through the network configuration wizard, I've attempted to assign the wireless adapter an ip on the correct IP rang... Read more

I am having the same problem on 2 different machines in 2 different houses, and both started when I installed a US Robotics MAXg wireless usb network adapter. The problem is that every so often, windows will pause. I say pause instead of freeze because if something is open, like IE or something, i can still use it normally, but if I try to open another application or task manager or even another copy of IE, nothing happens, i get the hourglass/cursor for a few seconds and then nothing for 2-4 min. during this time the HD is not making any sounds or anything. when it is done, everything i clicked on opens at once. on a side note, even while paused i can still do things like open up a folder i have on the desktop or view the start menu, but opening something like control panel or task manager wont work.

computer 1 is my dad's computer, i hooked it up, along with a USR wireless router of the same MAXg brand. My dad's computer is old, has low ram and runs XP slowly. I reinstalled XP before installing the adapter.

computer 2 is my spare one. I used it with my existing Netgear wireless router, it has enough RAM, has run XP for years and was formatted right before using the usb adapter. It currently has no added applications on it except for the adapters program and AIM.

me and my father have different ISPs.

both computers have only 1.1 usb ports, this is the only connection i can come up with.

After functioning properly for a long time, my wireless internet has stopped functioning. I was watching youtube while installing the user software for a new wireless printer (Canon imageCLASS MF4800 Series) from a CD. I accidently hit the CD eject which interrupted the installation. I pushed the CD back in and resumed installation, which completed quickly and all the programs it installed worked fine. After my youtube video finished I noticed that I was no longer connected to the network the bottom right indicator thing said "Not connected, No connections available."

When I try to make a network map from the control panel it says, "The adapter is not connected." I can connect to the network with an ethernet cable (into my modem) and I can also connect to the internet with a wired hotspot from my phone (via usb).

I am pretty sure my modem is setup properly because it has worked with this computer for a long time and is currently working with a similar laptop (also HP, also Windows 7 Professional x64).

I have looked around on the internet for fixes so I have tried disabling and enabling my "Wireless Network Connection" in the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections page, without success. I have also tried uninstalling the Network Adapter from the Device manager and then restarting my computer, without success. My network adapter drivers are also up to date (according to windows)

It may help to reset the N900 Netgear router using the reset button on the side of the router. It's fairly typical for the wireless to go out while the wired connection will keep on working.

It sometimes requires a 30-30-30 reset to fix the router.

Hey there

I'm having a bit of a problem with my wireless adapter from belkin, it was working fine up until 4 days ago when it simply stopped working. i worked with it that morning and that afternoon upon returning to my computer it was not working.

after looking for a problem and trying to reinstall the driver i saw that the wireless connection using said adapter was disabled. so i tried to enable it, i get the load box saying "enabling..." and after a few seconds the loading box says enabled but it stay disabled in the window.

i've tried changing driver and i actually went to buy another and it didn't work(returned it). my dad has the same adapter as mine and his still works like a charm. i've had the adapter for a year and never had problems with it on xp, vista or windows 7 until now.

Last night, my internet was working perfectly and I closed my computer lid before going to sleep as usual. This morning, I wake up to use my computer and the internet isn't working. I check the icon at the top and instead of showing an empty wireless meter with an X over it, it shows a computer and a cable with an X over it, which isn't normal. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532 with a built in wireless adapter and it has a button near the power button that turns the adapter on and off. I decided to turn it off, give it a while, and turn it on, but that didn't fix it, so I restarted the computer. Now, when I try to turn it on an off, it gives the wireless symbol with a circled X over it. I have checked the device in Device Manager to see if it is working and it says it is working properly. So I uninstalled it, restarted and the computer automatically installed software like it should, but that didn't fix it. I tried a System Restore, but that didn't work as well. Another thing I should mention is that I have tried rolling back the driver (which didn't fix anything), then I updated it, which also didn't fix anything.
Is there anything else I should try? The only thing Diagnostics can detect is an unplugged cable, but it's built in, so it doesn't require a cable (I've had it for >1 year and this is the first problem I've had).

Edit: I downloaded Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and it says no wireless adapters can be found. I thin... Read more

Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
• COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
• Computer Browser (computer browser will start when needed)
• DHCP Client
• DNS Client
• Network Connections
• Network Location Awareness
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
• Server
• TCP/IP Netbios helper
• Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
• WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
• Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic
If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.
And I can assume that when you say "updated the driver" you downloaded the current driver from the Acer site ?

Does your user's manual give you any clues as to how,if at all,you can access the adapter and just check it for connections ?

I have a Linksys WPC54G V3 Wireless notebook adapter. Under the Linksys wireless monitor software, it says its "Inactive". I know this adapter is not a lemon, because it worked in an XP laptop (The one that doesn't work on is a Windows ME, and i confirmed that it is compatible with ME however). I have tried some other programs like Netstumbler, and Boingo, which apparently doesn't work with ME. Netstumbler doesn't recognize it as a valid network card. In the device manager, it recognizes it, with no conflicts.

I talked to linksys live support online, but diddnt really help...

Hello all,

I just upgraded my PC yesterday with some killer components. Everything turns on, works proper, etc.... except my Graphics Card (GTX 560ti 448 core edition) is showing as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

New Parts;
- ASUS Sabertooth p67 Rev 3
- Intel i5 2500k
- 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
- GTX 560ti 448 core edition

Thing's i have tried so far;
1 - Uninstalled old drivers (explained below)
2 - Downloaded drivers from, attempted to install and received a message stating the program could not find a compatible card or something like that
3 - Checked BIOS to make sure my graphics setting was set to "PCIE/PCI"
4 - Checked Video Card seating and both 6 pin plugs

Now, just some other facts;
- The video card is apparently working as i am plugged into it directly via HDMI cable.
- The HDMI cable is the ONLY cable i am using for display atm
- I upgraded from;
- ASUS P5E3 Pro
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
- 8 GB's DDR3-1333
- GTX 275
- The hard drive was one of the part's i didn't change out. I did not do a clean install of Windows 7 due to the massive amount of installed software(and games) i'd have to reinstall if i did.

This is all i can think about at the moment, but will be watching this thread like a hawk for updates. I will answer any and all questions ASAP!

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time

Hey, I got my computer last September and it has been working perfectly up until last night when I was watching BBC iPlayer and suddenly it froze, Firefox Crashed, then it froze again and everything went black. Now whenever I try to boot up I get a BSOD saying that it failed to reset the display adapter. I can boot into safe mode and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for my graphics cards. I get an error on the hardware info saying that the AMDA00 driver can't be run. If I manually disable the graphics cards then I can boot with no problems just using the onboard graphics.

I've attached the SF Diagnostic folder, any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Got a shot of the BSOD to finally read the error as:
STOP: 0x00000116 (0xFFFFFA800A89F010, 0xFFFFF8800F3A1034, 0x0000000000000000,0x0000000000000002)

Answer:BSOD linked to graphics card - "failed to reset the display adapter"

Try other versions of the display driver.
You may try the drivers on a trial and error basis:
320.49 WHQL
327.23 WHQL
331.58 WHWL
331.65 WHQL
331.82 WHQL
332.21 WHQL
Get them from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Do a clean install on all of them. Uninstall the previously installed driver first.
Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features3D Vision Control Driver
3D Vision Driver
Graphics Driver
HD Audio Driver
nvidia Update
(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
Download the target WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:
Lengthy process, but the only stable version of nvidia is 314.22 lately, which does not support 700 series GPU.

Also, check it physically that the GPU is properly seated in the PCIe slot.

If you anyhow can boot into windows with the GPU on, stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

If no improvement anyhow, we have to accept that the GPU is over.

Hi again, and thanks for being there to help!

Our (DSL) home network is this:
Phone line comes in the house (bought used) by my desk upstairs. Gazinta phone/DSL splitter, into Best Data modem (bought used), from there into D-Link router (bought used). From there into my computer and by means of a 20-or-so-foot Cat5 cable (bought used, I think) downstairs through a floor register to my wife's computer.

My computer never has any internet connection problems.
Hers has them often --- lately more often, and real lately it's hard for her to stay online much at all.

In the past, various of the following things have fixed the problem:

Wiggle all the connectors (including the jack on the computer), several of which seem loose or able to be pulled partway out.

Swap outputs on the router.

Power cycle both modem and router.

Also, in "the past," a wizard would pop up on her computer sometimes and offer to repair the connection (not, I think, the network repair/setup wizard). I think sometimes it would reestablish the address of the computer. At any rate, sometimes it would fix the problem. These days, that wizard does not appear and I can't find it to call it up manually.

Sometimes I've had to call the tech help desk, and sometimes they fiddle and get the thing going again. Last couple times they can't seem to, and have suggested hardware replacements.

What I've now done, for openers, is ordered a (new) Cat6 25... Read more

Answer:card replaces "integrated ethernet adapter"?

In my experience with computers so far, I'd have bought a new ethernet card, taken out the old one, swapped in the new one, probably attached a connecter to it (and then closed the machine up and begun wrestling with the agonies of plug-and-not-really-play).

If "integrated ethernet adapter" means it's part of the motherboard or something like that, and presuming that's not working right, what is the fix?Click to expand...

I would have replaced the long cable first. When they say 'integrated' it means it's already part of your motherboard, which you surmised correctly. If it still didn't work then I'd buy a PCI ethernet card. Connectors slipping out will always cause internet faults.

Yesterday, my WiFi was working great, as usual. But then all of a sudden, the Wifi literally stopped working by itself. The Windows 7 taskbar utility thing (where you can see networks), lagged up and was unresponsive.

I rebooted and when I tried to connect there was a red "X" next to the little set of bars in the taskbar. The adapter was ON, however. I checked device manager - the adapter, Intel Centrino N6230, was there, enabled, and listed as working properly. No excelmation marks or anything like that.

The software for it, Intel MyWifi, states the adapter is not present. All of its functions are greyed out. I tried re-installing drivers - nothing changed.

I tried it in Safe Mode, no joy.

I tried to do a System Restore but it does not work because of an error: "Could not access a file. This may be because of an antivirus program. Disable it and try again." It was something like that. I tried disabling but it STILL gave the same error.

I know my hardware is fine, because when I try to use it under a different OS, Ubuntu-Linux, it runs perfectly fine.

Please help? This is extremely frustrating.

Answer:Windows 7 does not "use" Intel wireless adapter. How do I fix it?

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Why not uninstall the 3rd party wireless manager and let the native Windows wireless do the work? Have you tried this? Click on Start and type Services then locate WLAN Auto Config, see attached image.

If the above suggestion didn't work, boot into Safe Mode with Networking (restart your computer and continue tapping F8 and select this option), locate Device Manager, uninstall the Wi-Fi adapter, download the updated driver from Intel Site, install the new driver. Please do not install the wireless utility manager for right now.

An update will be appreciated.

I just purchased a Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card. I installed it correctly and the program works fine. The card itself seems to running okay, as windows recognized it etc.

My problem is that it cannot find any networks. I am using a bell Speedstream 6520 and it is compatible with either 802.11b or 802.11g, so I know it's the right type. The "Power line" light on my Belkin card is on, but the ACT light doesn't seem to be on. (It could be, but it's very faint) I have no telephone interference(I'm presuming), as I am using a 5.8GHz phone.

If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Nem.

I know someone has posted this (title) before, which is how I found this site.
I discovered the problem today when I was opening Intel PROSet/Wireless and trying to connect. It was/did get connected, but there also came this message "Another application is controlling the wireless adapter."
I only use this application, so I suspect it was caused by something nasty that infected my computer. A possible source is an application disguised as a jpeg in a zipped file unwittingly sent to me through MSN.
Other problems I have (hopefully) fixed include regedit and task manager being disabled.

I have an ASUS G51VX with Windows 7 64-bit. All has been fine with my internet connection, except for a few drops here and there, but all in all it has been tolerable. When I went to bed last night it worked, when I woke up, it didn't. When I troubleshoot I get the message, "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection Adapter", to which Windows cannot fix. I get this same error message, respectively, for both wired and wireless connections. After troubleshooting without success, I decided to try and do a system restore. In the system restore panel I noticed that there had a "Critical System Update" performed at 3 in the morning, I assumed this is where my problem came from. So I restored it to the previous night, before the update, only to be greeted with the same message. I am only connected with "Limited Access". The network adapters I have are an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN and a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both of them, still no success. There are no exclamation marks or red x's next to either of them. Also, I'm running off a University's wireless/wired internet, and all other devices are working, so the router is out of the question. What's even weirder is when I open a cmd window and enter ipconfig /all , I get:

Try the commands below, although I'm not sure why you have so many teredo tunnels which is for IPv6 functionality.

This may work better if you just reset your router either by pushing the reset button for 30 seconds or just unplugging the router for five minutes then going through the standard set up procedure again. Although resetting the router may not be possible at the University.

For a while, I'm using the Z97-deluxe with
- 1x bluetooth adapter
- 2x gigabit ethernet
- 1x wifi (physical)
- 1x wifi (virtual)
As you might know, the "virtual" is the "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter". This will share the bandwith with the real (physical) wifi adapter, but is extremmly usefull to set up another network (e.g. a wireless printer, or even an ad-hoc connection).
This virtual adapter can be set up through command line with "netsh wlan hostednetwork " commands
My question is :
There still is another adapter : Broadcom Virtual Wireless Adapter (???)
This adapter is named "wireless"
But it clearly appears like an ethernet connection, (if we trust its icon it the network cards, plus it's written "network cable unplugged" as ethernet have, instead of "not connected" as wifi have...)
So, what is this yet-another-stranger-vitual-adapter, and most importantly, how can we use it ???
Thanks a lot !

Below you can see how it looks and my Device Manager. It just says it is "Enabled" and that's it.
It already happened on Win 7 and I had to reinstall windows, but I wouldn't like to do it here

Answer:Wireless adapter is "Enabled" but not working

Why do you keep installing them over and over, it is obvious that the Realtek is online, with great signal strength. You don't say what kind of device you are using or what you are trying to do with multiple wifi adapters. Do you have multiple routers, a G and a dual band? I'm not sure if you are a person or a poorly written bot program at this point...guess I should call a psychic...

I bought this computer a year ago, and have never used my wireless card.

I'm trying to enable it, and when I go to Windows Mobility Center, the "Turn Wireless On" command is greyed out.

Under Device Manager, it indicates that my wireless card, a Realtek RTL819SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC, is working properly. I went to the driver tab and disabled it and then enabled it again just to make sure, but that didn't affect this problem.

Can anyone tell me how to enable my wireless card?

Look for a switch on the front, or try something like Control and the function key with the wireless symbol on it, by pressing both at the same time. My Acer Netbook, it is Ctrl-F2, but may be different on yours.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

Answer:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

The hard drive is a Western Digital 320 GB that I've had plugged into this computer before (and worked). Then i got a virus and had to do a recovery of windows.

Ever since then I can't get windows to recognize/show it in my computer. I just "disabled" and "enabled" it in device manager to no effect. I have a C, D, and E drive which are: two partitions on the hard drive, and then the CD drive (respectively).

So i'm stuck, not sure where to proceed since it's obviously not the hard drive itself, I use it on my xbox all the time. What next?

Hi guys. I'm new here. I've tried to read all the discussion about how to fix the unallocated hard drive but I just can't understand it as the cases were pretty much different than I'm facing of.

Here's my problem.
Yesterday my external hard drive seems normal, everything is fine, until there's a blackout and I have to put "sleep" to my laptop. After the power got back, the hard drive suddenly gone and when I check the list of drives under "Disk Management", it showed up as "Disk 1 - Unallocated".

(I've attached screenshots here for your viewing)

My external hard drive is WD My Passport 1TB. It contains a lot of valuable data I cannot afford to lose. I really hope there's a way to fix this, and once I get back all of those precious data I will buy another HD to transfer them ASAP because I cant let this happen to me again.

Your help is so, very much appreciated.
Any questions regarding my problem, let me know. I'll provide all of the details you guys need.

1) I've tried TestDisk but on the "Analyse" process, it says "read error"
2) I've changed cable, but the situation remains the same.
3) I've tried Recuva, but it doesnt recognize my external drive.

Answer:WD EXTERNAL HARD DISK 1TB suddenly "unallocated" and "not initialized"

First don't mess up with the WD drive settings.. download partition wizard 7 (its free)..then .. open it wizard(menu) .. select partition recovery wizard.. and it will find the partitions on it i think.. that way you can recover your partition that has been lost.

Hello Guys and Girls,

My wireless internet connections are currently set to a manually configured status, but this means I am having problems connecting to other wireless connections with free (ie unsecured) connections. I have tried going to properties and ticking the "Let Windows configure my wireless network settings", but I get a dialogue box coming up telling me that not all of my changes have been made.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Why don't we start with the make/model of the wireless router in use, as well as the wireless adapter or laptop brand. Also, what version and patch level of Windows do you use?

If you have XP-SP2, you can set the machine back to installation defaults using the following procedure.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

There is a Lanier LD117 Printer recently installed in the office, which is connected to the network, to be used by the two computers in the office (both are Windows 7 equipped). However, the printer shows "offline" on the computers when the printer
is on.
Secondly, the printer says there is a paper type/size mismatch. After changing the printer (and the computer) settings to the correct ones, the printer still says its mismatched. And the confusing thing is if you select FormFeed manually on the printer,
the documents that are waiting will print anyways, even though it says it cant and even though the computers say its offline.

How can I reset the system so the documents will print automatically upon command via the two computers?

Hey folks,

My first post on here but I'm in serious trouble. I got a "new" (to me anyway) desktop running XP today and found the audio hardware wasn't working. So I pillaged an old machine for its sound card, and inserted that onto the motherboard. Also connected the Aux and CD lines to the top of the daughterboard.

Since then, to my horror, the machine has failed to boot. All plugged in, keyboard working, screen on and being used on another box for this very post. All I get now is the usual chirps from the internal soundcard followed by a few very low notes, definitely depressing so I guess they're suggesting something's failed. There's no further action from the CPU, the fan still works, but there is no screen output whatever.

Have I fried the motherboard without realising?!

Also, ironically, the last failure tone was delivered by my speakers through the originally non-responsive audio hardware!

I'd love a bit of help on this one, because my knowledge of computers' insidey bits is pretty poor.

Many thanks,

Okay, I have a 2wire wireless card and running windows 2000. My card reads correctly under device manager but under network connections it reads as "Local Area Connection."
Not "wireless network connection" like it's supposed to. So I can't connect correctly over wireless. Anyone have any idea how I can get this working on my windows 2000 computer? Running windows 2000, service pack 3.

Answer:Help: Wireless card Reads as "Local Area Connection"

Who said that it was supposed read as a wireless network connnection? Mine read as a local area connection in 2000? The name shouldnt have anything to do with how it functions.

I get the Code 12 error when I look at my wireless PCI adapter in my desktop computer's device manager. I am running windows vista home premium. It is brand new so nothing is installed, just drivers and software for a BIOS update that I tried and failed. The whole error says "this device cannot find enough resources that it can use" and below it also says "If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system." I've disabled some ethernet ports and I think there are some ghost drives or something that I don't see...But i don't know how to take care of that, and I went into my setup for the BIOS and I really didn't see anything to change on the BIOS, so what do i do? the software didn't work.

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a strange problem with my wireless NIC card and router. Recently I decided to upgrade to wireless N and hoped that everything would go smoothly, this did not seem to be the case.
- To begin, I have two computers - One MacBook Pro and one desktop running windows Vista ultimate.
- My Mac connects to the network fine, with out without security enabled, I can pretty much do anything and it will still connect.
- My PC, on the other hand, refuses to connect to the network at all. There was a point in time where it would only connect if security was disabled, but now even with security disabled I cannot connect.
- I don't have any type of MAC filtering enabled, I've tried all types of security (WEP, WPA, and WPA2), I've tried to manually set my IP address, but no matter what I do I keep getting the same error.
- The error I receive is " Wireless Association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point "
- I have the latest firmware and drivers, all straight from linksys. I have also reset the route numerous times and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the NIC card more then once.

I would greatly appreciate any input or help that you could provide! I'm seriously at a loss now

I had a pci wireless card on my dell desktop and it was working fine. Two days ago, it stopped working so I was trying to reinstall the driver. At the end of the installation I got this error:" The specificed module could not be found" but I have no idea which module is missing. I tried another USB wireless adapter and I got the same error message. I know both wireless adapters should be in working condition because I tried them on a friend's desktop and both adapters can be installed just fine on that machine.

The quesiton is: is it really just some Windows files are missing/corrupted on my dell machine and what are these files, or the motherboard of the dell machine is damaged?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

(To start, I had posted this in another forum after much reading, then realized that I needed a new thread. THIS IS A VERY SPECIFIC SPECIAL CASE!) Hi all. I'm thinking I'm in the right place to be asking this question. I have read the posts here and to start, they're very similar. I have recently updated the mobo and processor on my system and added a wireless nic. I am having a few weird problems but the one that fits this conversation is the wireless NIC. It is plugged in correctly. It works in another pc. I installed the mfg's drivers. I have rebooted many times due to other things. The OS is a fresh install because of the upgrade. All drivers are from the mfg's websites for all parts involved and the system bios is updated and running at optimal, but not OC specs. The problem is this... My pc does not "see" the card at all! I tried every combination of install and still, the pc recognizes nothing wireless at all. If I may add xtra info, I know my vid card took a dive. I am currently running in VGA mode. The other probs just get more baffling. Esp since I started everything from scratch as if building a new pc. My biggest prob is that after a few min of not typing or moving the mouse, My pc freezes. I still see the screen as I left it, but there is NO functionality. I have to hard boot to start again. I have all power settings set to never and no scr sav. It isn't overheating because it'll run as long as I make it do something! ... Read more

Answer:Comp won't "see" wireless card and freezes from inactivity after a few min.

Oh, just to add to the opposite side of the fence on things, I have enabled the scr sav and/or allowed win media to play streaming radio to see if that "activity" would quell the situation. It does NOTHING. Unless I type or move the mouse at least once in a while, it will get stuck. No red hdd light, no mouse movement, no ctl/alt/del, nothing! Just stuck as it sat for so long. And all the while I have been posting this, I dare not get up and go to the bathroom because I'll have to reboot and try again. lol! This is way bigger than my knowledge of what to try besides the obvious (get a new vid card) but I don't see how that would cause any of this! TIA for giving this some much needed thought.

Hi and THANKS for being there! This is primarily a term definition question. I don't find any clear answer in my user's guide.

I've got this terrific TV card installed, very fancy, very feature-rich.

I've got this terrific add-on AGP card installed, very fancy, very feature-rich. But I'm thinking that's beside the point. (It's a nVidia Geforce FX 5200)

This TV Tuner/Capture card dates back a ways; bought it for my old Windows Millennium machine and I remember that it worked just GREAT. It has the brand name "Brooktree" but that might just be the chipset or something. Anyway, I abandoned the TV add-on when I upgraded to a newer Windows XP machine in early 2007. I couldn't find the right driver though it worked pretty fairly with the old driver for most TV stations, it didn't work perfectly. I ditched it at the time.

I recently visited and searched diligently and finally did find a perfect driver for that TV card for XP. I am sure it is the latest and best driver available, so that is not even an issue.

Since I no longer subscribe to cable, I can use this old card to watch only channel 3, as output by my VCR. (The card also has FM radio, which works great!)

Here's the thing. A very itty-bitty teensy slight snag. When I initiate the TV Tuner, it always starts up in what they call "Preview mode". There is sound but no picture! No problem, I just tell it to go into the alternate mode, "... Read more

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

That dxdiag "no sound card" message is misleading as I've found it says that if no driver OR sound card. I think you're missing the right driver

Also, it would seem from your post you have High Definition (HD) audio. Which means you'll need to find the right High Definition audio driver. (AC97 pre-dates HD audio so the Realtek AC97 couldn't be right)

Try starting on the HP support website HERE and enter your model number or they have a button where they'll try to identify your product and drivers for your model. They should list an HD audio driver there

Hello folks, looking for a little help here as I've exhausted other avenues.

Main Machine Specs
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (Fully licenced and patched using W.U)
Memory: 2GB Ram
GFX: Nvidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB
Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe (Socket 939)

Network details
Primary Cabled Connection: Nvidia nForce Networking Controller
Backup Cabled Connection: Marvell Yukon 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Wireless Connection: Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card (Part number F5D7000uk)
Router: Netgear 54Mbps Wireless ADSL (DG834G)

Supplementary details
- Router is located approximately 15-20ft from the PC. One very thin wall between. For testing purposes other wireless devices have been disabled (Mouse, Phone, Joystick).
- Wireless "Quality" as rated by Vista flickers between "Very Good" and "Excellent".
- Router uses WEP which is confirmed as working correctly on the second machine.
- The drivers for the Wireless Connection have been updated to latest manufacturer release.
- A secondary machine (laptop) connects Wirelessly to the router with zero problems.

The Problem!
As you have probably guessed, the issue here is the Wireless connection from the PC.

The installation of the card was fine, no problems noted. When attempting to acquire a network connection using "Obtain an IP automatically" using IPv4 moves to "Identifying" - after a short period of time (<30 seconds) it changes to "Unidentified Network"... Read more

i looked up code 10 in google and others have had similiar problems and a common suggestion is to update the drivers, but i seem to have the most up to date drivers for this peice of hardware...

its finding the card, and knows its an ethernet adapter, but just cant "start" it when ive installed the drivers... there are also no generic xp drivers, or at least i havnt seen any when i first put the card in...

my comp is somewhat old, but should still be new enough to handle a wireless card i think...

Hi, guys. I'm having a heck of a time with setting up my wireless network. I have an old desktop wired to Netgear wgt624 and trying to connect my laptop wireless to share internet connection and files between the two computers. I want to transfer all large files from desktop to laptop so I could burn it on DVDs. I used to be able to share internet connection even though laptop speed was significantly lower than desktop it was o.k. for browsing internet. Settings for router: Network authentication=WPA-PSK, Data encryption=TKIP with network key and don't broadcast ssid. In the process of trying to make file sharing work I changed a couple of settings. I changed automatic IP address to static (copied from desktop), created same usernames for both computers (even though it doesn't ask to set a password for some reason), and made some files and drives "shared". Now I can't connect to internet either. It does show network in range however when I click on connect, it tries to connect and the moment it says "connected", the message "No wireless networks were found in range" comes up. Then I refresh network list and it shows my network is connected with excellent signal strength but I can't get online. I feel like giving up on this network thing. It's sooo frustrating. Ooops, I meant to post this in Hardware...??

OK the box my new machine came in says:

"VRAM: Shared"

I suppose that refers to "Video" memory (?), and relates to the "Intel HD 3000 Graphics" which I also apparently have...or are they one-and-the-same, please?

This is "integrated" (built-in) graphics, yes?

And if I am able to improve upon this (or improve upon these things), what might the "LOW-END" price range to achieve that be, please?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:"VRAM: Shared"? And Graphics "Card" Question

HI Glenn

Moved your thread to hardware for you

Yes you are very correct VRAM is video ram and the shared part is generally for onboard graphics solutions like the Intel HD Graphics, so what it does is have limited RAM on the video hardware itself and then uses a portion of your main system ram to top this up.

Sadly Glenn, updating a laptop graphics is not worth the hassle or cost and in some cases you just could not do it, dependant on model as the space to fit new hardware would not be available

Question what is it you need good graphics for as in many cases for daily usage onboard graphics will be fine (Surfing, Office, Email, mid range image editing and basic games), if you wanted this laptop for mid to high end gaming then always better off with a desktop and good mid/high graphics card, but this depends on the games.

If my motherboard currently has an intigrated graphics card, but has a PCI-E slot, do I need to do anything special after inserteing my graphics card and installing the drivers, or should it just work right away?

Answer:How do you switch from an integrated graphics card to an "external" graphics card?

Most modern PCs will detect the new installation of the PCI graphics card and automatically disable the onboard graphics, so yes it should just work.

If for some reason you have problems, you may have to make a change in the bios, I cannot be more specific because each bios is different depending on manufacturer, and model of the motherboard.

Install the card, connect your monitor to it and boot up, when you get into Windows install the driver and reboot.

My office just upgraded, and I can no longer use Windows XP. On this system, I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network, and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists. Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain. I had them installed in opposite vertical margins, and they were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used. Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin, and BAM! Sorry for the cliche, but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up, and I just don't think I can be as efficient without anything comparable.

Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows 7 GUI, and it's making me sick with rage! I see only the option to put a "toolbar" on an existing "taskbar", and no option to create any additional taskbars! This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar, plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick. When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button, the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient, much less cool about this at all! I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues, but I see none such in W7.

I have tried every google search string that I can think of, and found... Read more

First of all, I'm using windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. AND IIS. (Internet information services) or something like that..

It's really annoying, because my IP is also a website.

People can access the IP as a site, but when it changes, the old one goes off.
It gets really frustrating! I've tried manually entering it on the gateway, but my gateway just stops working and I have no internet access.

I tried entering it manually on Windows, but it will disable my internet but allow me to access the site from the old IP.

So I have to keep it on "Obtain an IP address automatically"

Your router gets its "outside" IP from the ISP so that you cant set manually. I assume the website is using that one, correct?

The inside IP's can be manually set but that will only work from the internal lan. Is that what you want to do?

Hi all,

Over in notebook review ( we have been exhaustively trying to determine if the "FLASH SATA" port marked on the E6520 motherboard can use an mSATA drive, PCIE SATA drive, etc....

So far, nothing.  So, I am turning to the Dell community in the hopes we can find someone who knows about this slot and its functionality.

The question is simple - as stated above - what types of drives can be plugged into this slot?  Is the interface wired for mSATA, PCIE, or what?

It would be great to have a ~32GB boot drive in this slot, with the primary HD slot reserved for a large mechanical "storage" drive.

I eagerly await any useful information on this topic...

I just got a Toshiba Laptop for Christmas. I currently have a Linksys Model#BEFW11S4 802.11b Wireless router. What I want to know is can I just buy any PCMCIA wireless card for my laptop as long as it is 802.11b compliant? Or does it have to be a "Linksys" brand card?

I would assume any ol' brand would work just fine as long as it was 802.11b compliant. But I just wanted to make doubly sure before I rush out and go buy one.

Please respond ASAP please. I leave for out of town in about 2hours to make my buy with my gift card to Sears.

Answer:Do I "have" to have a "Linksys" PCMCIA card or can it be any brand??

Any brand.

I am infected with this crap and have used the following tools to try to get rid of it:
Windows Defender, Unible PowerSuite (SpeedUpMyPC, Registry Booster & Spyware Protector) and Norton's One Button Checkup and WinDoctor.

Not sure if it's related, but my DISPLAY is locked at 640 X 480.

Atempted the 5 Step Process before posting and Panda ActiveScan froze and crashed after scanning 59253 files, but not before identifying 28 spyware files.

Here's my extra.txt log from Deckard's:

The Dell Optiplex 7040 MT has 2 slots for adding new 2.5" drives. However. instead of the standard 2.75" width (for a new additional 2.5" SSD drive), the slot seems to be about 3.25" wide.
Any suggestions as  to what part number is needed to fit the 2.5" drive in the designated 2.5" slot are appreciated. Thanks.

To run Norton Ghost 2003 under DOS on my HP Pavilion N3390 notebook, I need a DOS driver ("Dos card and socket drivers") to access 'slot services' for access to: [1] PCMCIA wireless 802.11g card (NetGear WG511)to use network storage; and [2] at other times PCMCIA USB 2.0 card (Adaptec USB2connect AUA-1420A) to use external hard disk. I don't know if such drivers are generic or specific to the brand of computer or to the brand of interface card. I have been unable to contact Symantec for information, and HP email response sent me to I found drivers for other makes of computers & cards, but am afraid to install something unless I know it's likely to work with my setup. Would greatly appreciate any info on how to find the item, exactly what it's called (maybe I'm using the wrong search filters), whether there actually IS a driver provided with Ghost, whether an other-branded driver would be OK, or how to actually contact Symantec, since I'm sure this issue has come up hundreds or thousands of times for other Ghost users. Symantec's website links that include "...or contact us" do NOT appear to actually lead to any links to send an email to their support people.

I double-click and get "search" instead of "open"--only when I click a disk, like Hard Drive C: or Floppy A: or CD F: and so on.

It didn't used to do this, so I must've inadvertently changed some setting somewhere, but darned if I can find it now.

Any ideas?
