When I open a New blank document, the document is filled with columns or checks

Question: When I open a New blank document, the document is filled with columns or checks

When I open a saved word document or New blank document, the document is filled with columns or checks fully filled in the document.
How can I avoid this? How to modify the settings. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running XP and Word 2000 and Nortons. Word will crash if you leave the document open for a while (there is no specific time frame) and then select close (icon). The error - Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. The details are: AppName: winword.exe
appver 9.0.0.3822
Modname: kernel32.dll
modvers: 5.1.26002180
offset 0001eb33

This has pretty much happened since I got this laptop. I have reformatted and reinstalled everything (due to another problem) and still have the same problem with word. I have used the same CD on other computers to install word and they do not have the same problem.

I use a variety of templates and plain documents in my work and can not pin point it to one template.

If you leave Word open with a document (no matter what size) and come back to it later this is when the problem happens. I started to get around it my saving first then closing, but this no longer works. The save completes and then I select Close and this is when it happens - you get the dreaded pause and then you hear the whirl of the computer and then you get the Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Firstly I could put up with it but is now just a nusiance.

Hi,

I work at a small non-profit and we have updated two computers with new computers running Windows 7. We use MS Word 2003. I have checked all threads on forum related to this issue, but nothing seems to correct our problem. I would be grateful for any help.

Description of issue: With a Word document open, one should be able to click "File" > "Send To" > Mail Recipient As Attachment", or any of the other mail options, and have the email composition window of Thunderbird pop up. What happens is that Word is attempting to send the attachment via Windows Live Mail. The computer basically freezes. If you try and abort or get out of Word, and error pops up stating you can't close Word until the email has been sent. Finally, you have to force a shut down of the computer.

Internet Explorer shows Thunderbird as default email client. I have check all of the other obvious places for setting the default email client, but I can't seem to find a conflict anywhere on the computer showing Windows Live Email as default client.

As a side note, this employee was using Outlook Express as their email client prior to the computer upgrade and all setting were imported into Windows Live Mail, which was initially used. The employee did not like Windows Live Mail, so I installed Thunderbird. It is used as the default email client and the only issue has been with Word. Additionally, I know that the document could be sent from Windows Explorer by right-cli... Read more

When saving a Word 2007 document as a webpage (htm, html), an extra folder is automatically created besides the hmtl document itself. This folder contains background information like pictures, wallpaper etc. Is there a way to prevent that folder from being created in the first place? I've got Word 2000 on another computer, and when I save my word documents as html files over there, that extra folder is not generated. The only time that folder is created in 2000 is if my documents contain pictures, wallpaper etc. In Word 2007, it is created all the time, even though my documents are just plain text.

Answer:Solved: Word 2007, saving document as html document: how to get rid of extra folder?

Managed to find the solution, it was very simple after all. One has to save the document as a filtered webpage and click "yes" when a box pops up warning you that you will use certain featuers which are specific to Office2007, such as the background. Then the document will save without that extra folder and files.

This is just one of those odd quirks I have run into. When I open a new document in Word, then open an older file, the new document closes and only the old one is displayed.Using Microsoft Office 2010, specifically Word.Windows 7 64-bitA bit of explanation, I often do research/writing for school or for fun. This issue has always happened, just one of those small annoyances. Here is the exact thing that is happening:1. I open a new (blank) word document, by clicking on the Word icon or by selecting "Open New Document" in the Word program.2. I open an older (saved) Word document, by clicking on the saved file, not by using the "Open" function in Word.3. The New (empty) document disappears, only the older document is open. I must now open a new empty document to write in. What I want to happen:1. Open new document2. Open old document3. Both new and old document are open (2 windows).Other notes in no particular order:- Word has always operated like this. Just wondering if there is a way to stop it.- I am not using the "Open" function in Word to open the older file, I am opening the older file by double-clicking it in the File explorer. When I use the "Open" function in Word, it does the same (basically "closing" the new file in order to open the old one). - I tried searching through Word's settings but couldn't find anything that seemed to relate to this behavior.- As per regular Word behavior, the new document is auto-na... Yes, you are right. That is normal for MS Word.Do this:Open a new document. Type something. Even a single space. Save it with a name you want. Now open an older document. Both documents can be on the screen or cascaded. If memory is not an issue, you can haven two instances of Word.

I have two questions regarding documents created in Word 2007...

1) Can links be created within a Word document? For example, can I click on and item my table of contents and have the document jump to that particular section of the document?

2) Also, is there a way to make sections of the document hidden until the user clicks a specific word or graphic in the document?

I'd like to specify a particular instruction and include a "Show example" link that would make a detailed example appear for those who needed the extra help.

Thanks everyone!

Answer:Word 2007 - Links within a document? Hide/Show sections of a document?

If you created table of contents through References - Table of Contents, you can hold Ctrl and click on the item in that table, word will take you there. This feature is standard.

Also, to navigate inside document you can use bookmark option.
Insert bookmarks. Word 2010 Bookmarks
Then insert Hyperlink - in the window select second tab "Place in This Document" and choose your bookmark.

As for hiding parts of document, I do not think that is possible.
You can create that in HTML document with javascript, but not in Word document.

This might be kind of tricky.

We're trying to streamline our RFQ-to-Quote process, which currently utilizes a combination of digital forms and hand-written forms passed among several departments. My boss asked me to modify the RFQ form to save him some typing (because he has to retype all the information in the final Quote), and I--not understanding the complexity of the process--very stupidly told him that it could be done fairly simply using form fields and bookmarks. He's been kind enough to grant me a lot of leniency because for him anything would be better than the current situation, so as long as I can improve on what we use now, he'll be happy.

I thought about creating form templates for each of the departments, then as the original RFQ circulated from one department to the next subsequent forms would be appended to it to create a rolling document. I'm not too happy with the that idea; there's all sorts of room for user error. I thought about creating a single document template containing every department's form, but a) I don't want any single department to be able to modify information gathered during another department's process, and b) certain departments must generate a variable number of copies of their form.

I told my boss the best way to accomplish a secure and low-maintenance RFQ-to-Quote would be to create a stand-alone Quote Generator application, but we both agree the effort is not condusive to the timeframe by whic... Read more

Hi all.

The other day whilst in the throws of fixing another unrelated problem I came across a strange and annoying Word Document problem.

When I bought this word document up it present a very unusual icon. It was grayed out and part of the title contained a ~$ then the name of the document.

When I tried to open it, the word document only opened up to the gray page just before it should turn white displaying the text, and there it froze.

Nothing worked after that! The freeze was so bad that the only way to close the window was to turn the computer off at the tower.

After rebooting I tried it again 2 more times with the same problem freeze occurring in the Word document.

Today I again found another document that caused the same problem, this time the icon for that document was normal but right beside this icon was another malformed grayed out ~$(name) icon.

When I tried to open either of the 2 icons I got the same freezing up problem, just as before.

I tried a previously suggested step in that I opened "Word" and from there navigated to where the bad files were located.

In turn I only hi-lighted each, and at the bottom of that window clicked on the arrow for the drop down box.

I was advised that one of the presented options was to repair the file. No such option was present.

So there you have it. Any advice on this problem please?

Regards

Answer:[SOLVED] Word document freezes computer and document is corrupted

Hi all.

Just to advise that I am going to mark this topic as Solved......to a fashion so to speak.
I may resurrect it at a later stage if the problem re-presents it's self.

In a nut shell. I spent a lot of time today searching sites and performing tests including searches on my computer program.

I ascertained that all the aforementioned "defective " Word documents originated in the same folder. After performing several search functions with the criteria as ~$.doc no other such files were found on my computer, other that the already mentioned.

All tests suggested would not repair the said documents.

I have now deleted the offenders and I will monitor the situation. If I run into problems again I will re-post.

Thanks anyway.

I was working on a Word document that someone sent me by email in form of rar and saved the document. I now can't find the revised file and I have lost about 8 hours of work. Any ideas on where I can find this file? I looked in the email that was originally sent, but it is still the old file. I have also done searching on my computer with no luck. Help, I'm desperate!!! I have Word 2007. Please give me reply as soon as possible.

Answer:Cannot find the saved revised document in Word document

If you were only hitting "Save" and not "Save As" the document is likely, unfortunately, gone. You can try opening Word by itself and going through recent documents to see if it shows up. If you opened it directly from the email and the email was in Outlook, you might be able to find it in the Outlook Secure Temp Folder. To get to this folder, the easiest way is to send yourself a PDF file, open the PDF from the email then go to File | Properties and on the General tab (this is from memory, so I might be off a little bit) you'll find a location that you can click on. In this folder, you have a slight chance of finding the modified file. The only other option you have, that I can think of, would be digging through your temp folders hoping to find a .tmp or .doc file in there that has the content, but I give that about a .01% chance of happening. Good Luck!

Hello

I don?t know what you mean with laptop keeps sending the document but if you have this issue with office word or some other office application, try to check some forum where you can find discussion about similar theme.

I can not give you any precise answer but it is maybe because of office specific settings or you press accidentally some key on the keyboard and on this way interrupt symbols entering.

Hello,
I used mail merger to create 25 letters to different locations and different people. The source used for the names and address's were from an excel file. I used "Edit Individual Documents" in order to get all the letters in one document. Now the problem is i need a backup of each letter on my computer and i have no clue if its even possible to save each page in the master document as a unique document. If not, is there a way of saving each unique document of a mail merger?

Hi....
I'm using word 2010.
I have a Mailmerge document (actually a company letter with header and footer, used by a package called "Cash4Windows" [C4W]). This document usually has the recipients name and address etc. inserted by C4W.
The document is a template - "xxx.dotx".
What I want to do is strip out the Mailmerge fields and save the document as a normal Word 2010 document, 'cos the User wants to have a blank standard company document available.
I've spent a long time fiddling with the Header and Footer to get just what the User wanted, and I know i could just cut-n-paste the Header and Footer into a new document, then save it as "xxx.docx", but when I looked on various help sites the normal method in Word 2010 seems to be
on the ribbon tab
Select Mailings
Select "Start Mail Merge"
Select "Normal Word Document"
then save the Word document.
I've tried this and it has absolutely no effect, as when I close and reopen Word and select the previously saved document, I still get the "Opening the document will run the following SQL command" splash screen!
I've tried saving the "normalised" document with various different extensions, but nothing seems to get rid of the SQL.
I've also tried opening the VBA editor (Alt+F11) to see if I can find the SQL, thinking that if I can delete the SQL it might cause Word to avoid the prompt, but I can't even find the SQL!!!
I know I'... Read more

On my previous computer with Windows 2000, I was able to make incremental backups of a Microsoft Word document while it was being created by me. The advantage of this was that if an "accident" happened and the document was lost or corrupted before it was completed or saved to a folder, the partially completed document could be retrieved from a special folder somewhere in C-drive. I was able to specify how often a new backup was created (ex.: every 3 minutes, ex.; every 10 minutes, etc.). It is possible that this special folder also contained backups of all previously saved Word documents, which were also being re-backed up every few minutes. -- I cannot find any reference to this on my new computer (Windows XP and Microsoft Word 2002) in the Windows search engine, or in the Word user interface "Help". I cannot remember how I found this feature on my previous (W~2000) computer. -- Thanks

If this can be done, is there a way to conserve the original format and the links in the excel doc?I would prefer leaving in excel but the customer needs a word document. Hello,

I tried to save it to my computer and it did not work either. Do I need to change format and if so how do i do that ? If it is not formatting, than what can it be and what do I do? I have a lap top, XP, and windows. I also heard if you have adobe, you can not type on documents.... if this is true, I have adobe.... so what would i do in this case? Please help....this document was to be turned in a week ago....
thank you in advance... Raq.

Answer:can not type in a blank document ! WHY?

It sounds like you do not have the proper software installed on your computer to edit this document.

You do not mention what format this document is in, but if it is a .pdf file, then Adobe Reader will let you read it, but not edit it.

My suggestion would be to contact the powers that be in your organization for specific instructions or for info on what software is needed.

When opening a Word (MS 2000) document it appears every time with the same photo on it. I know when I downloaded the photo (with others) from my camera but do not know why it should appear in Word. I have attempted to "Delete" it "Cut" it, etc., but it returns every time and it would seem that I have acquired a permanent Template. I have resorted to undergoing a Windows XP "Restore" back to the day before I downloaded the Camera's photos but this had no effect so I have returned to Square One. My technical knowledge is regretfully poor but I am hoping someone could come up with a not too complicated solution so that I might use my Word once again. Hello,

Was curious if anyone else has heard of this problem. When working with a word document that I have opened and (saved) closed many times, I now open up the same document, still named the same and it is blank.
Weirder still, one of the word documents "somehow" changed the icon over to an excel icon and that is blank as well when opened in excel. Tried for the heck of it to rename but that of course made it completely unreadable.
The only rhyme or reason I can get from this is it seemed to all happen on the same day Mar. 17th.

So has anyone ever heard of word or excel deleting the contents of your document / spreadsheet when you save or do I start the standard virus and malware scanning?

Hi
We have an Intranet on which we've posted user tips etc. These documents are Word documents.

When you click on the link, Word in launched in the browser and the document is displayed...for most people. One of our users gets a blank document each time. No matter which link she chooses. She can open .pps, .xls, .pdf....they work fine.

I checked her settings, I downloaded the most current version of IE (the most current we are using which is 5.5 sp2). These links work fine for me. I checked my IE settings and made sure hers matched mine.

From the link I can right click and save the target to the desktop and that will open in Word and all the info is there, but once it gets to the browser all is gone...

Ideas? Hints?

Hello there!

I got done after writing this document for three weeks...Suddenly (today), my document appears to be blank. I didn't download anything..Didn't go on any porn sites (surprisingly), or anything. In fact I didn't go on anything after I finally finished my document, which was finished yesterday.

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BwAFALX-xjyKeDAydnBGM0xJRGs

there's the link to the document ^
When I highlight the document, it appears to be words there, it's just nothing shows up. It's as if all my text is white. However, the text is clearly black. The font color is still blank, so I don't understand what's going on here.

It's almost as if things were looking too good in my life, so this of course had to happen to even it out.

No matter, I'll never type and save anything in wordpad ever again, that's for sure.
Oh, and when I tried opening this in Windows XP, it shows a string of squares, so it looks like the file is definitely (mysteriously) corrupted.

Any way to fix this? If anybody fixes this, I'll pay that person 10 dollars via paypal

Thank you very much!

I want to know how to do this in Word 2000 or 2007:

I have created a CV in a table format. The table is exactly the size of the paper so I cannot put a cursor below the table so can't use the delete button. I remember vaguely there is a way of getting rid of redundant page some other way but I so rarely come across my current problem I cannot remember it. Anyone knows how to do it?

I prefer to use Office 2000 for my own purposes but I as I am likely to encounter Office 2007 at work place, I wouldn't mind knowing how to do that also in the new version.

Answer:Removing blank page at the end of Word Document

Click on the "show formatting" button. It looks like a backward "P". Either your table is too big and you have flowed beyond the boundry of the page or you have a page or section break which the "show formatting" will show you and you will be able to delete.

You can make you table a little bit smaller and the extra page will go away.

Or, you can adjust the top and bottom margins smaller in Page Setup and the extra page will go away.

I recently bought a new computer with Microsoft Works 7.0. I set up a template with my address, telephone number etc but now, whenever I open a blank document my address etc appears. I think I must, in error, have checked the box "use this template for new word processor documents" and I cannot find a way to correct the error. Can anyone help?

Answer:Microsoft Works 7.0 wordprocessor - blank document

File > Save as > write in "Home Address.dot" > Click it > Close.Reopen - if you check, the name will be "Normal.dot" > Clear your address and you will have a blank page again.I am told that if you just rename "Normal.dot", M$ will create a new blank one but I have insufficient experience to know if this is 100% correct.

Hello

I'm using Visa (32) and I fax out invoices, by printing using the Windows Fax driver. The invoices are created in Excel, and when I fax, only the cover page comes out, and the second document (which would be the attachment) is blank. Even before sending the fax, the preview pane only shows the cover page, and whatever document I'm faxing (from Excel) as blank.

I've tried this from MS Word & Adobe Acrobat, and it works just fine. I've been reading around, and there's some suggestions about changing Tif file associations or something. Can somebody tell me how to do that?

I'm really reliant on faxing invoices from Excel. It worked fine in XP, just not in Vista.

Thank You

Hello,

I am running Word 2007 on Vista. Every time I open up Word or try or try and create a new document, clicking on 'blank document', it opens up with several print screens that I created and saved as a different document.

No matter what I try and create, the 'blank' document always has these 6 print screen images in the document. Is there a way to get rid of these in my blank document template?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:Windows 7 forum: My wordpad document is blank! Please help!

Do the following.Open your Wordpad doc, got to "Edit", then "Select All", or hit CTRL+A to highlight the content. If you cannot see the text after performing this step, then your document is empty. If you can see it, proceed with the next steps. Click "Format", then "Font". Where it says "Color", change it to another color such as maroon. Click "File", then "Save" and then close the document. Reopen it, repeat the same steps and then change the colour of the font to black. Click "File", then "Save". Close the document and then reopen it to verify that the contents are now visible.

Help!Okay, yesterday morning I decided to un-install all this game software that my son likes to download onto my computer.  I dont know if I accidentally un-installed something important.  vista.I opened an adobe document which I can view normally, but when I print it out, it prints only the header and the checked boxes. So I un-installed and re-installed my printer software AND adobe, with no sucess.  Its doing it intermittently on several other adobe documents which I know printed out normally in the past.  Anyone have a clue?  I tried the help at Dell, no luck.  I cant seem to google and find anyone with a similar problem.   I can e-mail the document and then scan and e-mail what prints out, if that would help.

I really don't see how, if anything untoward had happened with either malware or a "buggy" update, a document would survive uncorrupted and with all it's pages intact except the first one. I can only suggest it was saved like that.

I am a teacher in Tennessee and I need to find a software that will enable me to edit and change a scanned document. I have some old tests and worksheets that I inherited from the teacher that had my room before me. I would like to make some minor changes to the documents without having to retype the entire set of documents. (Things like change the date and the teacher name on the heading, etc...)

Is there a software out there that will allow me to scan a document in and then alter it? These are not copyrighted materials, so that is not an issue.

Preferably, I would like a freeware or shareware or trial version of something to make sure I can navigate it before I shell out a chunk of cash to purchase something.

As a teacher, it is important to me that my materials look professionally done, so I would prefer to edit them on a computer rather than use white out and pen.

Hi

I have a problem. My office has many labs, but from a single lab when someone prints a word document onto a particular printer, it gives out an extra blank page. This blank page is not seen in the print preview unlike which was discussed in the previous forums.

This problem has been encountered only for word documents but not for .pdf files. I have tried even with a single page of word printing, it gives out another blank page. Can anyone resolve this problem. I dont think its the problem with the printer because it works well with other labs and .pdf files from this lab too. Anyways its a HP Laserjet 5SiMX.

Answer:Word document prints an extra blank page but that blank page is not seen in preview

Is the printer in question the default printer for the PC in that lab? Print preview shows how the document would appear based on the settings of the default printer - using another printer can cause changes such as this.

I send out a PDF formatted newsletter on a mass mailing via e-mail. One of the recipients suddenly cannot open the document. They have checked the Microsoft firewall is off (classes PDF documents as liable to corrupt the computer!) and have Adobe Reader 7 installed. Up to now no problems reported with earlier mailings and I have not used anything different in converting the original Word document. I am told that there have been no alterations to their computer set up for some time.Would a virus cause this or is there something else that I am missing in the problem? Any thoughts gratefully received.

Answer:Cannot open PDF document

If its just one person that cannot open it then obviously the problem is on their end. What I would suggest initially is to send it to them again and see if it works the second time if not then ask them to delete and reinstall Abobe and see what that does.If everyone else gets it fine and only one person doesn't then the problem has to be their computer and not anything you have done.

I was working on a document (word 2003) and received an error message that it had to close. I had previously saved it to my flash drive. Also when I try to remove flash drive i get "device can not be stopped now"
I'm afraid to do anything in case my document can still be retrived.
Thanks
higsus

Answer:help! can't open my document

Welcome to TSF!

Word might not have released the file when it closed. That would prevent you from stopping the flash drive for removal.

Word should have opened a temp file that it uses, so the original should be safe, but there is no guarantee.

I would first open Windows Explorer/My Computer and see if you can copy the file from the flash drive to your hard drive.
Open Task Manager (right click the Taskbar, click Task Manager) and see if Word is listed on the Application tab (as Microsoft Word), or on the Processes tab (Click the Image Name column to sort alphabetically, will be listed as WINWORD.EXE) If it is, highlight it and click the End Task/End Process button. Now try to stop and remove the flash drive.

You can also just restart Word, it may be able to recover from right where you left off.

When I start Word or Excel, it opens a blank document or spreadsheet. When I then open an existing document/spreadsheet, or start a new one from a template, you'd expect the empty startup document to be closed automatically. The opened document should replace the unedited start document.

On one of my Office installations, this works as it should. But on another one it doesn't. This is inconvenient - I have to close these empty documents manually every time.

I posted this question on a Microsoft MVP forum, and someone suggested I should start Word in safe mode, to get an even 'more empty' start document. That didn't help, and I was not given further suggestions for a solution. What could be the cause? What can I do?

I have a one-page document with a footer. Word has added a second blank page with a footer that I cannot get rid of.

I followed the advice on MS Office help page: open the document, click view, click normal layout, click paragraph icon, delete last paragraph icon. But, when I do this, nothing happens. The last paragraph icon will not delete.

Does anyone know a simple way to delete the blank page? I tried removing the footer from the blank page, but that also removed the footer from the first page.

Answer:Solved: Delete blank page at end of document in Word 2002

Hi loverboy (I've always wanted to say that ),
Could be a couple of different things. First, try clicking the paragraph icon and using backspace instead of delete.

Is the content on the first page really close to the end of the page? If so, try changing the top and bottom margins (File/Page Setup). Make them both 0.2 or something like that. Did that fix the problem? If so, change them to something more reasonable (like maybe 0.75).

You can also highlight the paragraph character and change the font on just that character to 2pt. That will likely make it small enough to fit with the first page.

If none of those options work, you could have a page or section break that you're not aware of. Go to Tools/Options and on the View tab under Formatting Marks, check All. When you go back to your document, if you see a dotted line that says "break", highlight it and delete it.

Let us know if any of that helps.

Using Word 2002 on MS Windows XP

I am unable to delete the last page in several of my documents I work on at work. The last page is a blank page. When trying, I mess up the formatting which includes headers, foorters, page numbering, graphic. The document contains usually 4-6 pages sometimes more and is on legal size paper. The first page has a logo on the left and on the right has text (Reference _______________). This is placed in the header. In the footer there is more text on the left with automatic page numbering in the centre and another graphic on the right. 2nd page header is just the text (Reference _______________) located on the right with the footer containing the text on the left with automatic page numbering in the centre and another graphic on the right and so on until the last page called a "Status Page". This page is on letter size, does not have any headers, footers, graphics or page numbering.

My task is to take this document and delete the "Status Page" which is the last page. First I remove the text on this page and try to then delete the page, but I can't without messing up all the formatting. I'm aware that I will have to probably place certain headers, footers, page numbers back in on certain pages, although, I never make it that far.

Would you know how to do this and provide step by step directions? Maybe there is no actual technique to do this, but I know it can be done, as someone has managed to remove the "sta... Read more

I purchased an HP PC, model a1410n in june 06. It has Windows XP, SP2 and Media
Center Edition 2005. I transferred all my document files to MY Documents on new PC.
I cannot open any of these files. I receive error message "Cannot load Word for Windows 6.0 files. I found the exact error message in Windows data base for XP, SP 2 (article 883090). I followed explicit steps to modify registry to resolve the error. That did not
resolve the problem. The error message still comes up each time I click on one of the document files. I am a novice computer user. I contacted HP tech for assistance since the
software is still under warranty. That was a waste of time. I was referred back to microsoft (above article) or it was suggested to do a "destructive" recovery. I had to return this PC to HP for hardware repair and a complete system recovery was run before I transferred the document files. Any help will be appreciated.

First I downloaded a trial version of MS Office 2007 on my desktop. When I tried to open the document it said the file is corrupt and do I trust this source. I think I trust the source, but before I opened it I wanted to make sure exactly what that meant. I saved the file from an attachment in my email.
Then I tried making changes on my laptop through the add/remove programs to MS Word 2002 and the MS Office Binder Support. When I try to update it it asks for the disk. I can't remember which disk I used to install MS Word 2002 on my laptop. I tried Works 8.5 and all the disks in MS Works Suite 2000 and a Word Perfect disk. I might be completely off base with all of this. And maybe it's not even possible to open this document.

I'm running XP Pro Service Pack 2, with MS Office XP Version 10.0.6789.
I have already modified the registry per kb 918165.

When I try to open a Word document, there are 2 messages which display in succession, and then repeat:
"The language DLL 'VBE6INTL.DLL' could not be found."
"The Visual Basic environment could not be initialized."
Each time, I have sent the error report to MS.

After a few tries, it offers to open Word in safe mode. From there I can modify my document as I intended, but I cannot open a document without going through this.

Can you tell me how to correct this?

Answer:Word document won't open

Not sure but next time you open I would "Select All" > Copy and create a new document and paste, save this new copy with a slightly different file name, eg. xxxx1.doc. Often copy and resaving a doc can salvage them to a more "fuctioning
state".

WARNING IF YOU HAVE EXCESSIVE EMBEDDED EDITTING FEATURES WITHIN DOC MAY BE LOST, eg table links, hyperlinks, pictures, etc.

From personal experience, embedded editing can cause doc file size to blow out but also increase likelihood of corruption occuring. If there are many tables, graphs, pictures often best to save them in a sperate doc (if many of these then several seperate files) and call them appendices.

Often get this message when I try to open a document. I tried the suggestions that Microsoft put up but the applications are not familiar to me and one even warned of damage to the system.

So can someone please tell me what this all about as it a private document and I want to retrieve the info in it.

Answer:Cannot open document file

That's a configuration file. You can open it with Notepad to see what's inside. Usually, the content is intuitive, and it usually contains configuration of a program, game, etc., you will be able to edit the configuration easily with Notepad.

My Acer laptop came with Windows 7. My last computers are all with XP. My biggest surprise is my access to My Documents is denied, even though I am the only user, and presumably the administrator.  What's the solution to that?

This seems a little strange. Maybe a language barrier.

In the Registered file types list, click the file type you want to open with a different program, and then click Change. (Look for DOC)

I have kind of sussed that it should be made the Normal.doc but dont know how to change normal.doc. Can anyone help with this please.

Answer:Open in a particular New document Template

It's actually normat.dot and depending on your version of Office and Windows (I will assume XP) you will find it at C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
