Can't connect Windows 7 Pro to Server 2012R2 Essentials

Question: Can't connect Windows 7 Pro to Server 2012R2 Essentials

I'm running Windows Server 2012R2 Essentials and I started the http://server/connect on a Windows 7 Pro SP1 machine. The problem is that the connection process stopped...
If I manually start "C:\Windows\system32\Essentials\ClientDeploy.exe" -LaunchedFrom:resume -Server:192.168.178.10 the systems says "Your account is not a member of Administrators". The account I'm logged on with is __clientsetup__$.
Below is the log file, in the end it says "Add user to local admin group.". That clearly didn't happen (I checked).
Any suggestions?

Cheers, Hans

Preferred Solution: Can't connect Windows 7 Pro to Server 2012R2 Essentials

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Client Connect to Windows server 2012 Essentials not working for 1 PC on a network. It didn't work a year ago when I set up the domain and the other 8 PC's connected, but the HDD died so I did a fresh install in Window 7 Pro SP1 and put in all the updates
and tried to connect agian.
The error is that it can't find the server.
I've tried everything else I've seen on the forums, IP v4 only, DNS is only set to the Windows Domain server.

below is the log for the connect attempt, does anyone have any ideas?

I am able to add Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 clients without any issues. However, I receive an error stating the network path could not be found whenever I try to add the Windows 10 client. I have verified all settings, including authentication credentials, DNS settings, and IP settings. All devices have both IPv4 and IPv6. All clients were added from the same network using the same settings (DHCP with DNS set to the IPv4 and IPv6 servers).

This is unusual

I installed windows server 2012 r2 with updates and I installed a graphic driver for my laptop. But I had to format and I forgot to save the driver. The problem is that I did not save the driver and do not even know the version.

Good news is that I backed up the whole disk with acornis true image. bad news is that the image is corrupted, so the best I can do is to try to mount the image in ''acronis explorer'', so that I can explore the files on the mounted server 2012r2, then look for the version of the driver.

I mount the image of server 2012r2 in windows xp sp3 through the software form acronis.

how do i get the version of the drivers installed on 2012r2 when 2012r2 is just mounted and not running?

So, found this server for a company I'm doing some work for and it needs 212 updates. What is the best way to go about this. I'm assuming if I apply all the updates we are looking at probably a 4-6 hour window that the server will be down. This is an Exchange server and should most definitely get the most recent updates.

Is there a specific order that I should be applying updates in increments or should I just do the whole thing and let it run after 10pm or something like that?

Once this is done I'll get them on a weekly / bi-weekly update schedule but I need to get them caught up first.

Thanks.!

I've been getting BSOD's for about a month now everytime I stream a movie, but today when I ran chkdsk /r /f at startup I got another blue screen that stated DRIVER OVERSCAN STACK BUFFER

I always get different BSODS Such as IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, KERNEL POWER when streaming movies.

Below I provided the entire mini dump file for the CHKDSK error as well as the mini dump file for the streaming movie issues I got yesterday.
Note: These are just 2 of the DMP files of the BSOD of 11 that I've gotten throughout the month.

I'm assuming it's a corrupt driver issue, but I am stumped at the moment. Any help from Window's Experts will definitely make my day, thank you!

Having a heck of a time getting RDS printing working to HP Laserjet 1606DN printers to print to Windows 7 64 bit workstations. The easy print driver doesn't work, tried installing the HP 64 bit drive, nope, then tried the HP universal driver, nope. I think I read somewhere that the default behaviour on a 2012R2 server may me to try the easy print driver first and if you want it to try an installed driver next you have to turn it on in the local group policy? Anyone have any experience with RDS printing with 2012R2?

Answer:RDS printing Server 2012R2

On your 2012R2 server, prior to this HP LaserJet 1606dn, what other print drivers did you have installed? Could you export a list and include it here?

And are you using Isolation Mode on all your print drivers?

How many people RDP into your 2012R2 RDS server?

When adding Universal Print Drivers, do you add "HP Universal Print Driver" or "HP Universal Print Driver (v0.0)"?

Do you use printmanagement.msc or do you go to Devices and Printers and work from there?

We're upgrading all of our servers that are currently on 2003 R2 to 2012 R2.

One of them is our WSUS server.

What's the best practice for making this migration?

Setting it up as a downstream then promoting to upstream? Setting it up as a new server and finding a way to migrate stuff from 2003 to 2012?

Other things to consider:
We are replacing over a dozen servers currently set as downstream / local file servers around the nation that are still running 2003 with 2012R2 Hyper-V machines that will also have the print/WSUS/file server roles.. We plan on moving those servers to point to the new server, so as things progress, only the 2003 machines will point to the 2003 WSUS, and all 2012R2 will point to the 2012R2 WSUS..

Answer:server upgrade (WSUS) from 2003 to 2012R2

Does this help?

I have an HA cluster I built.

3 2012R2 servers (physical) each has it's own DC local to hit (so the cluster can stand up)

each physical box has access to the 3 drives on SAN1 (SSD volume, Mechanical volume, and the Quorum).

How do I make it to where my second SAN is connected to the physical boxes and accessible to VMs as well?

The goal is to make it so that if SAN1 fails the Vms will pickup on SAN2....Right now I only have failover capabilities if the physical host themselves fail but not the SANs.

Thanks!

I created a Win 10 Pro computer user as a standard user when connecting computer to the domain. However, the office main business program, the antivirus program, and even Outlook will not run unless I click "Run as Administrator" and use
my admin credentials.
* the user account was previously created on the Server 2012R2
How can I elevate this user to admin? I really don't care what they do with this computer. Just need these 3 things to run all the time.
Thanks,

I have some issues associating the default application for specific users for specific file extentions.

I've used registry imports in the times before GPO Preferences and have been using GPO Preferences for Vista/7/2008/2008R2 environments.

With Win 8.1/2012R2 (and in some extend Win8/2012) I have read I should use the "Default Associations Configuration File" GPO option together with DISM. So, I followed these steps:

Export current settings using: DISM /online /export-defaultappassociations:C:\Windows\System32\CustomAppAssoc.xmlI've updated the file and imported it back: DISM /online /import-defaultappassociations:C:\Windows\System32\CustomAppAssoc.xml (*)Seeing this didn't work yet, I've also setup the GPO and pointed it to my C:\Windows\System32\CustomAppAssoc.xmlI've removed the profile of my test-account and logged in
(*) (To my knowledge this these steps only update the OEMDefaultAssociations.xml-file)Unfortunatly the changes I made, that should have assigned .xml to Microsoft Excel did not work.

My file looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<DefaultAssociations>
<Association Identifier=".xml" ProgId="Applications\EXCEL.EXE" ApplicationName="Excel (desktop)" />
</DefaultAssociations>

A few issues I have:

So I need to migrate my old windows home server to an OS that can use advanced format hard drives.

I installed WSE just now and was looking for some information on how to configure it.

I I though there was supposed to be a way to connect to the server without joining a domain though?

I notice the server does not how up on the network from my windows 7 PC How do I get to the connector software? Do I have to join the Domain?

Answer:Windows Server Essentials Domain

Define "connect" to it.

I've just purchased a new Dell server with Server2012 Essentials for a work project, and while it is configured for a domain I can US RDP and shared folders from computers that are not attached to the domain. Granted because it's all in development at the moment I am using a admin account on the server for access rights.

I keep getting a 153 error on disk 3. How do I determine which disk is 3? I have 3 new 4TB drives, does this mean one of them is bad? I have like 70,000 of these errors now and smart tools etc all say all of my disks are healthy. I'm non longer able to stream most stuff from the server, and writing to this disk seems to be causing this error.

All I could find is this when searching for the error (Same error I am getting only I have it like 70k times over a few days).

Looks like it's time to replace the drive. As for which one it is; this is why when I build a server I label the drives prior to putting it into production ( by the low-tech method of booting up without a drive plugged in, determine which one it is, rinse/repeat for all drives in system ).

I have a new client with one server running Windows SBS 2011and 5 computers
that log into it. The server is in a very unstable state throwing tons of errors at every angle, so the office has chosen to buy a new server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials.

My question is ? can I
setup the new server offsite and domain then when I get to the office completely
back up the old server, create new local accounts on the client computers and copy the data (My Documents, Favorites, Desktop Files and etc.) over to the new local account,
shutdown the old server, bring up and copy all the data to the new server, and then have the new client local accounts join the new domain? Since this is such a small new domain,
does Windows Server 2012 R2 Essential require a DHCP and DNS server or can the SonicWall handle that?

I want to choose an OS for a media server, has to be Windows. I have valid keys. The server hw is pretty old, its an old SuperMicro with AMD Opteron, 6GB DDR2 etc.

Which of these is going to have the lowest resource usage? I don't need to use any pc backup features, just run it as a server with the usual tasks like Plex/Emby, downloading etc.

Answer:Server Essentials 2012 R2 vs Windows 10 vs WHS 2011?

2012 Essentials gets my vote but I bet it's less featureful than WHS2011. Based on how many strange happenings I have on my workstation at work with a clean non-OEM install of Win10 TH2, I would not use it for a server at all. Here's to hoping 2016 is better in reliability than the counterpart 10...

I'm trying to help a friend to get their Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup up in their small business.

Server is operational, but I'm having issues connecting PCs to it...

I'm able to get to the server page by going to http://(servername)\connect
I can download the connector software, when I run it it finds the server it ask for user name and password.

After entering info it tries to connect for 20-60 seconds and fails with:

Cannot coonect this computer to the network
The Server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see troubleshooting connecting computers to the server.

any idea what could be causing?

could this be caused by network issues? They are using ATT DSL for internet access, with a ATT model, that is referred to as "gateway.pace.com"

They also have a zyxel smart switch, it seems that both ATT DSL and Zyxel switch are acting as DHCP, and both might be issuing IP addresses.

Another thing I noticed that they are using IP phones for all office phones.
All PCs are connected to the network with an IP phone as a device in the middle, that seems be slowing down the phones from normal gigabit to 10/100 only.

Any help would be grateful.

I have a WSE I use for backing up and stoaring data. I have like 10 hard drives connected to it 8 of which are running drive pool.

The Motherboard is toast, and well although it wasn't having any issues keeping up with some cameras and file storage and backups, I guess it might be time to replace it with my 4770k office PC (ex gaming rig) and upgrade that machine.

If I simply swap out the MB's are boot off the Hard drive with WSE be able to adapt to the new hardware? Can I at least recover the CD Key because I can't seem to find it anywhere.

How do i gain permission to delete the registry

Answer:Registry Problem in Windows Server 2012 essentials

what do you mean by "added my computer into the server" as it's not clear what you did.
and clarify "there is no user found on the permission for drop box"
it should list local accounts and possibly the SID of a deleted domain user (if you mean you added your computer to the domain that Server 2012 Essentials creates)

Enjoy

Also, I earlier posted a link to a reported work-around for the connector software forcing workstations on the Domain.

Look that over as well if you intend on proceeding with this.

I have not tested this work-around yet, but probably will tonight.

Refresh me again on why you're so adamant about not allowing workstations to join the directory?

When I come across biz networks that have servers and workstations all in workgroup mode...I LOL at the "pizza tech" that set those up.

Download Windows 10 Client Connector Update for Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 as it now available at Microsoft.

Windows Server Essentials Connector is software that helps you connect your PC or Mac client to Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Windows Server Essentials Experience server role enabled. It also enables and manages key client-side functionality of Windows Server Essentials Experience. On a PC, it provides client backup, a tray icon and the Launchpad, the Dashboard for management of remote servers, and a VPN profile with the capability of auto-dialing and monitoring client health from the server side. On a Mac, it provides health monitoring and the Launchpad.

Get it from Microsoft here.

I am trying to add Windows 10 clients to Windows Server essentials 2016. It seem that in order for the server to see the clients I must the clients join the server server Domain. (Currently they are in a workgroup).

It looks like one has to change the Windows10 clients to access the WSE-2016 DNS. So in windows 10 I go to networks, bring up the adaptor setting. Bring up "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IvP4) and instead of "Obtain the DNS address automatically" change it to always get the DNS address on the WSE-2016 (found with ipconfig).
Then within Windows I use ?System?, ?about?, and Join the server DOMAIN. It now works. The client can now see the Server domain.
I can then see the Server files and the server can see the Windows 10 shared files.
There are still problems however.
When I reboot the Windows 10 client. I have a brand new user screen with only some of my original desktop icons showing. Do I have to essentially rebuild up everything on my desktop again!
Question: Is there not a way to have my original desktop appear when I am joined to the Domain.
Second, since there will be times when the server is off I used the router static DNS IP address as the alternative address in the above dialog box of the Windows10 clients. Seems to work since the client can access the internet even with the WSE 2016 off.
Here is my second question. I have a few home laptops as well. If I force the DNS to the server what happens when I travel. ... Read more

Answer:Adding Windows 10 Clients to Windows Server Essentials 2016

When Windows client computers are not joined to a domain they use the local SAM database to authenticate to the client computer. When the computer is domain joined you are using an AD user account to log into the computer. These accounts are going to have different SIDs as well as local profiles on the system. If you log into the computer with an account that has local admin access, you can simply move or copy the data from the local user account folder into the domain account user folder. The user folders inherit permissions from the root C:\Users\<username> so they should automatically gain access to the newly copied data.

I recently replaced our Windows Small Business Server 2003 with a Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials server using the same domain name and same computer name. When I tried to join an existing Windows 7 Professional computer to the new domain,
i kept getting trust relationship errors. I logged on to the workstation using a local login and rejoined the domain but now all the items on the desktop have disappeared including the connection to Windows Live Mail. Can I restore this?

Hi,

According the issue, I suspect that your machine created a new user profile in this case. The user profile path is stored in registry, here
is the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList(check the picture). Please check the value of ProfileImagePath.

Also, please take a screenshot of C:\Users and post is here.William Tan

I have just succeeded in hooking my Windows 10 client to Windows Server Essentials 2016. To do this I had to switch the W10 from a Workgroup to Domain setup.
All works fine except most of the desktop items originally on the client icons disappeared. Worse when I launce things like Outlook, Word etc. I have to initialize it from scratch.
How does one get all the settings, desktop icons etc. to re-appear on this new account that is now chanced from a Workgroup to a Domain setting.
I am an administrator (and only user) on both the W10 and WSE-2016. I see under users my original name on the W10/Workgroup and a new name. The new name does not have many files in it. I assume that?s the problem. But when I copy stuff from the old name folder across the programs are still not initialized correctly.

We have an important LOB application (QuickBooks 2018) that requires that requires Internet Explorer 11 for QB to operate correctly. Unfortunately our server runs Windows Server 2012 Essentials as an operating system (not R2). From reviewing
various Microsoft documents, I realize that IE 11 is not supported on Server 2012. However, we need to be able to run QuickBooks, which requires that version of IE. Upgrading the server OS to 2012 R2 would take hours, because there is no in-place
upgrade option. We would have to reinstall and configure the OS again from scratch.
Is there anything we can do to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

I have received a new windows 7 pro computer to replace my old windows xp computer. I have used the Windows easy transfer tool to move the files from my old computer to the new one. The old computer is still connected for the time being. I named the computer the same name and have the same password. I did an update from xp to windows 7 on another computer and it seemed to work fine using the same process. It connected to the server automatically. I would really like to have it where the computer is just a workstation on the network and anyone can sign in with any name and password. How do I do it?

I have install the administration toolpack on Windows 7 and enabled remote connections on my server 2008 box, When i try and connect with my Windows 7 server manager it does not work.

I see stuff on google about enabling a trustedhost with winrm but can't find a way to do this.

this seem more difficult than it should be?

this is what I keep getting

Answer:Can't connect to Server 2008 via Windows 7 Administration tools/Server Manager

Check Technet for the WinRM reference and or make sure that WinRM is enabled on the servers you are trying to access.

Use group policy to enable it if you need to do a bunch of machines at once. I'm using this with no problems.

Hi,

I am not able to connect to OPC server for non admin user in windows server 2003.

I get Runtime error '-536608665(e0040067)':

The system returned the following error message:

But i can connect non admin user to opc server in Windows xp

Is it possible for non admin user to connect OPC server in windows server 2003?

OPC server and client are on same system

Please give me your feedback

Thanks!

Answer:Non Admin not able to connect OPC server in Windows Server 2003

From what I've read on this thread, you'll need to set computer-wide DCOM security permissions. You'll want to peruse that thread.

On another note, this isn't really the best spot for this question. An error message isn't a crash, hang or bsod, and the situation is more relevant to specifically the Windows Server section (even though OPC servers can and often do exist in many client versions of Windows). You'll be able to receive more help there, as it's pertinent to your needs.

Answer:Can't connect to Server 2008 via Server Manager on Windows 7?

edit, I was wrong. https requires a non self signed cert
do the following in powershell, this is for powershell remoteing but it does the winrm stuff as well:

on the server:

Code:
Enable-PSRemoting –force
on the client:

Code:

Start-Service WinRM
Set-ItemProperty –Path HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System –Name LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy –Value 1 –Type DWord
Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts –Value <ServerName> -Force -Concatenate

Be warned that this is very insecure.

Hi,
I am trying to create a schedule task that runs just once at user logon ( I got that far) but I want the task being removed after the run.
I have seen it's possible to do something like this when scheduling some time/period, but in my case I need the task running after user logon self-destroying itself after.
(Note, I am handling images and the user will not show up until the VM starts ups as it's injected, so I cannot anything like a registry entry for the localuser (which does not exist yet) at the runonce pointer.
is that possible?
Any tips?

I'm looking at a good software firewall, a good anti-virus program, but I'm curious on what else one should be looking for. I'm very new to this, and I'm learning a lot each and every day, but I hope that I can get a little guidance on this from fellow forumers, thanks

Clients should be getting the DNS from the server, especially if you want clients to connect/use the server, especially for logons, policies, etc.
Im guessing the .254.254 is a uverse/att device?
Turn off the DHCP on the .254 device *or* add your current router into the DMZ type zone
Server should be sending out DHCP info
192.168.1.4 as DNS
192.168.254.254 as gateway (or is you can do the DMZ mode use 192.168.1.1)
255.255.255.0 as subnet

I'm looking for a solution for a small business here in town, they are getting to the point where they need to have a small server to centrally locate files, printers, and so on. There are only 3 computers in the office so I'm thinking about going with either Server 2012 Foundation or Essentials.

However they need to be able to use the Remote Desktop client on their Windows 7 workstations to connect to the server from time to time. Does either of these versions of Server allow remote desktop connections and if so how many at one time?

Thanks!

Answer:RDP connections for Server Foundation or Essentials?

I believe Foundation is pretty much like 2008R2 and allows 1 RDP connection for admin purposes
Essentials is more like SBS and allows 1 admin RDP connection as well.
Essentials is limited in certain functions and hardware

Has anyone else gotten this combo to work?

Whenever I try to install WSE2012 through UEFI/BIOS it fails. The computer reboots before I even get into the setup GUI. So far, I have only been able to boot into DOS.

I've removed all PCIE cards, unplugged hard drives, and updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I verified the chksum of the WSE2012 against Technet so i know my download is good.

I burned the ISO to DVD & Flash drive.

Any ideas?

Hi all,

I have a new Windows 8 pc and I need to connect to our website's remote SQL Server database. Everything works fine on our older Windows 7 pc's, but on Windows 8 I get a "The server was not found or was not accessible..." error.

Our hosting company has us use a VPN in order to connect to SQL Server and the VPN shows that it is connecting fine so that should not be causing this problem. We have a MS Access front end application that we use to view and edit data and I have tried using that and also tried using SQL Server Management Studio 2012 and they both return the same above error. Both of these options work fine on my Windows 7 laptop.

We have Norton Internet Security installed on all of our machines here and I also tried disabling that, but I still got the same above error so I don't think Norton is causing this problem either.

I've been researching this online and I tried to ping our server and it worked from a Windows 7 pc right next to me and timed out on my Windows 8 pc. Unfortunately, I don't really know what that means.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I don't do these posts (Hey look at me, I'm awesome!!!), but this one needed to be made...
I am a graduate of both WHS v1 and 2011. I liked both, missed drive extender, and loathed my ATT Gateway as a result. That said, they always backed up on time, and the way I wanted, with no issues (until Drive Bender decided to bork everything and my Windows 8 laptop refused to play nice with WHS2011).

Well, my server needed an upgrade anyway, so I decided to gut it (mostly) and start over with the new Server Essentials 2012. (SE2012 from here on)

Old Specs: Core 2 Duo E4400, 2gb DDR2, Some s775 Asus board, and a 9800GT PE + a 2TB WD Green.

New Specs: AMD A6-3650, 4GB DDR3, an MSI A55m-P33, an Intel 120gb SSD for the OS, and I added two more WD Green 2TB drives (total 6tb).

I cannot emphasize it enough how easy the setup was. Drivers installed with no issues, straight from the mobo disk, and then updated through windows update. Unlike with my two WHS installs, I didn't have to trick them into thinking it wasn't a server OS etc. Getting DriveBender back in the form of storage pools was awesome, and again, set up with no issues whatsoever including built in duplication. The entire process, hardware switch included, took MAYBE 2 hours. That includes setting up a domain on the network with SE2012.

So, compared to my previous server OS experience, I also like the new dashboard. It's a bit easier to work with and makes a little more sense, though some of the dire... Read more

I've reached the end of my limited networking knowledge. Here's the deal:

- I have my home server running Windows Server Essentials 2012. Its primary function is backups of my various computers.
- My ISP is ATT Uverse, which provides a modem/router/gateway. It sucks teh ballz, so I set into bridge mode and set up a Netgear Nighthawk behind it. ALL devices are connected to the Nighthawk.
- I want to set up the server for remote access so that family can grab pictures and files remotely, and so I can do the same.
- I followed the instructions and the auto setup (I had to forward ports 80 and 443 manually, but that's done), and from the server's perspective, it says it is set up:

And now the problem:
When I try to access the sever from INSIDE the network, it loads the login page no problem. BUT, when I do so from the outside, the server sends no data, nothing loads.
Am I missing a setting on the bridged gateway?

It sounds like it would be well-suited to a home file server/backup, as it does full backup of client systems. It sounds like it does some of what WHS does, but is meant for a business market.

I think at one time SBS was able to do WHS-like drive pooling. I haven't seen any info, but can SBS 2011 do that?

I am just curious how well it works. Right now I have Server 2008 running with a virtual WHS for backups, but it's not really optimal as backups aren't really backed up. I have the clients doing a SyncToy backup, but it's not as reliable as I would like. I thought SBS could replace the pair working together, and would remove some complications and maybe be a little more dependable.

Hi all. I'm hoping somebody can point in the right direction, or walk me through steps to troubleshoot this issue.

I set up an FTP server on a windows 10 desktop using the built-in Windows FTP service capabilities.
Everything was working fine.

Today I attempted to access the FTP Server, both through a web browser and through file explorer, but without success.
Through a web browser it times out, and through file explorer it prompts me for authentication but shows an empty root folder.

So far I have done the following:

*Reset all network settings using NetAdapterRepair1.2
*Checked Windows Firewall settings - FTP allow option is checked
*Checked that ESET firewall is NOT activated
*Re-assigned the same static IP address from before running NetAdapterRepair
*Checked port-forwarding rule on modem-router - set to FTP service with port 21
*Checked system file integrity - SFC /scannow - no integrity violations
*Checked the Windows 10 image - DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - completed successfully
*Checked the FTP settings through IIS manager - can't find anything wrong
*Attempted to connect to the FTP server with all security apps turned off - ESET Smart Security, MBAM, MBAE, Windows and ESET Firewall -all turned off. Previously when all these were running I had no issue connecting to the server.

It is important to note 2 things:

I just recently re-installed Windows 7. Before I had done so I used to access my Windows Home Server through Windows Explorer by typing ftp://ericsbase.homeserver.com. And right at the point where I was getting ready to uninstall, instead of showing the files in

I have no idea why. On my router I have ports 80, 443,4125 and 21 forwarded. So please let me know how I can fix this.

Answer:Can't connect to windows server problem

Maybe there is some delay in the system (i.e. ARP table updates) and your machine is trying to connect before the network has stabilised.

Have you checked the various network settings for typos?

Next time you can't connect:
Open the "Command Prompt"
Can you "ping" your server's IP address? (without the quotes).
Does you machine's IP address appear if you execute "arp -a" (without the quotes)?
Are the settings correct, if you execute "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes)?

Ok so we're running Windows XP SP3 on a machine. I run Microsoft update and install all available updates (-Windows Live). After the updates it will not connect to the SQL 2005 server (database connections, explorer browsing, RDP, ...nothing) I can ping it's IP and hostname, but thats all. Everything worked fine before the updates.

Windows Firewall is turned off. Computers are part of a domain. Admin rights make no difference. I can connect to the server from other computers. I can connect to other servers from that XP machine.

I just can't connect to that server from that computer.

Has anyone experienced this or have any input on it?

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me.

A few days ago I was on my computer doing various things and I started getting internet problems. My browser and Skype suddenly stopped working. Soon the only thing that was still working (internetwise) was Steam (chat) and uTorrent. I rebooted in the hope to get everything working again but nothing worked anymore.

1) Windows says it cannot connect to the primary DNS server anymore.
2) There is a yellow caution sign at my internet connection.
3) I am still connected to my router (I don't have the ip address handy, using ikea hotspot)
4) I tried pinging google.com, it didn't work.

I tried resetting internet protocol.

I tried putting the router off and on again.

I'm already using google's public DNS server (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

I uninstalled Hamachi, didn't help.

I tried running spybot. Found and erased some malware, didn't help.

Tried changing cables (didn't help, this was before I checked whether I could connect to my router)

I don't know what else I can try. I will try and post my ipconfig as soon as possible, but I left it at home. Currently at Ikea using their wifi and my tablet.

Please help me. I do volenteer work online for people who have Autism but, I can't spend all day at Ikea. the people are already looking at me a bit funny and sometimes it requires Skyping if they're suffering from anxiety and need to be talked down

1) Along with the FTP issue I can no longer connect to the computer in mention through windows RDP
2) This all seems to have started af... Read more

Hi All,
After patching the updates of an existing Windows 8.1pro Client, I'm unable to connect to shared folder of Windows 2003 Server...But, you can connect by typing the IP of the Server....Eg: \\192.168.1.2 but not by the Server name...eg: \\Tac-Server...
Please note that the Windows update went smoothly without any error and now it's showing no more windows update but directly upgrade to Windows 10.
Can you please help me to sort out this issue.
Thanks

... When all other machines (mac & win 7) on the same LAN can with no trouble... This is only when on active mode however, I tried filezilla and dreamweaver, neither can connect to this FTP server that I have using active mode. They however can connect to passive mode FTP servers.

Other machines are able to connect to this active mode FTP server without issues... So only this specific machine cannot. It has no other firewall or antivirus running.

I'm out of ideas already... Anyone had the same thing before?!

Thanks,

Answer:Turning off security essentials & firewall still won't connect to FTP...

Hi Julius,

What browser are you using (name and version)? What version of Vista are you using (e.g., 32-bit Vista Business SP2 - not just 32-bit). Are you using a special FTP program to connect (if so, what manufacturer, name, and version - you provided some but not all of that)?

Is this YOUR Home Network FTP Server or one on the internet. If yours, what operating system is it using (full name and version and service pack)? Has a connection of this type ever been successful with this Vista computer before or with any Vista computer using that FTP method with that FTP server?

Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.

If that doesn't work, try to boot into safe mode (repeatedly click the F8 key while booting and go to safe mode with networking). Then let's check some of your system files:

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / Command prompt and right click on command prompt and click run as Administrator.

Type sfc /scannow and enter and let it run. It will scan and try to fix some of your system files. Hopefully it will complete with n... Read more

Hi All,
Any help appreciated with this one!!
I have a Windows Server 2012 Essentials Server with Dell Perc 200 raid controller.
All generally works very well. But i have noticed if i copy files from one location to another location on the same hdd, the transfer rate starts reasonable and drops right down to 1-2mb / sec... or less... and sometimes goes to kb/sec and then sometimes drops to 0...
Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed?? Is it windows settings, the raid controller etc???
Thanks, Simon

I don't know if this is buried here on HOCP or not, but here it is just in case.

There is an article on SuperSite that explains how to add a computer to a Server 2012 Essentials machine (i.e. install the connector software) without it taking over the workstation and adding it to the domain.

Article...

Hopefully MS won't put some sort of bullshit block in for this in the final RTM.

Answer:Apparantly you CAN attach to Server 2012 Essentials without Domain

Nice to know. Might allow more people to use it w/o worrying about domain administration.

I just have to say that GFI Mail Essentials is the best damn anti spam program for servers. The Bayesian Analysis works great. The DNS Blacklist works great. I work for this company and before I came they were getting 500 spam e mails in their in-box a day (and GFI was installed) then I set it to learn off the outbound e mails for a while (bayesian filter) and as soon as I got enough HAM e mails I activated it and BAM. 90% of spam stopped. Take note people who work for companies with programs like this : If you have auto whitelist on and you have trend scanmail for MS Exchange it will add all the senders of the virri to your WHITELIST!
The thing to do is :
1. Turn off Auto Whitelist
2. Weed through the whitelist created.
3. Goto the GFI Mail Essential Reporter.
4. Set it to print out domain statistics on the screen, set it to base it on # of e mails and set it to outbound only and BAM you got all the major players that the company e mails.
5. Goto NOTEPAD (old school) and based on how many e mails that people in your company/network send to particular domain addresses add them to the whitelist as *@whatever.com, well first put em in notepad and then transfer em. It really does not take that long but weeding out the bad e mail addys takes a long *** time. Even if you add the bad domains to the blacklist, if they are on the whitelist it bypasses it (which sucks). However, if you are a lazy systems admin and don't have jack **** to do because you did it all it is a g... Read more

Ok, so after a long time working fine, my desktops stopped backing up.

So, as recommended by the TN Article for Client Backup issues, I started the Database Repair Utility in the Dashboard.

It starts, and after a while it fails and says it fails due to an unknown problem. I click the link it provides to find help, and it dumps me in the generic Server2012E page. I've not been able to find any help on this issue.

Any idea's ?

I also ran a SFT /Scannow on the server. The last time I had a client backup issue this fixed it.

Exact Error Wording:

Backup repair did not complete.
An unknown error prevented the backup repair process from starting. Make sure that all services are running then try again.

The services I know to check are indeed running.

We have found recently that our Windows 8.1 clients are unable to connect to Server 2012 R2 shares (SMB 3.02). When trying to browse to them in Explorer we get "Windows can't find <UNC path>". Windows 7 clients can still connect to these
shares, only our 8.1 clients are affected. Attempting to access using the IP address instead of the host name makes no difference.
The 8.1 clients can still connect to shares on 2008 R2 servers. Server 2012 R2 to Server 2012 R2 also works.
No changes have been made to the clients or to the group policies which control them that could readily explain this issue.
Any advice on where to start troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I've just set up windows server 2008 for my home, but how do i now connect to it. The computers are mostly XP, though some are vista, so instructions for both would be great.

Also, is there anything specific you suggest doing to windows server 2008 before use? I've downloaded updates, but don't really understand the roles. What i want my server to do is let me log on, from any of my home PCs, as "nappymonster", access all my files, print to our printer, etc. And the same for 3 other accounts on about 6 computers.

Thanks,

As the title indicates, I'm unable to connect to Microsoft's server to download anymore updates. As this computer belongs to a friend I don't know any history. I've scanned the drive using AVG and Ad-aware AE. I can successfully launch Windows IE and navigate to Microsoft, so I know I have Internet connectivity.

My apologies. This issue is a side effect of the resolution of another one solved earlier. I didn't read something in the notes carefully enough. Thanks to all who read and/or replied.

Answer:How to connect Windows Mail to Exchange server

Hi Harrismith
I don't think you can. please check this page

E‑mail server types

Windows Mail supports three types of e‑mail servers. You don?t need to understand the details about these server types; you just need to find out which one your e‑mail service uses both for incoming and outgoing e‑mail:

Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) servers. Most e‑mail services and ISPs use this type of server, especially for personal e‑mail accounts. They hold incoming e‑mail messages until you check your e‑mail, at which point they're transferred to your computer. Messages are typically deleted from the server when you check your e‑mail.

Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) servers. These servers let you work with e‑mail messages without downloading them to your computer first. You can preview, delete, and organize messages directly on the e‑mail server. Copies are stored on the server until you delete them. IMAP is commonly used for business e‑mail accounts.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) servers. This outgoing mail server handles the sending of your e‑mail messages to the Internet. An SMTP server handles only the outgoing e‑mail, and is used in conjunction with a POP3 or IMAP incoming e‑mail server.

Now, I read you can have your Exchange server configured to support POP3 or IMAP, but I don't know if that is correct.

Edit: apparently it does

I run a church network as a service, they currently have one server and 9 clients, everything runs pretty smoothly, the server is using ip scope 172.17.9.x , the server ip is 172.17.9.3 , the gateway being 172.17.9.1. As long as everyone is connected to LAN, everyone on the client pc's can see the server as intended. However, anyone connected to wifi, which is IP 172.17.9.22, and is handing out 192.168.1.x addresses, can not see the server. They are unable to remotely connect, or set up a network drive. Hi all,
I've just installed an evaluation copy of Windows Home Server, and it looks great! Slight problem though; When using the connecter (either through the CD or through the shared space) it gives the error:
Unable to connect to your home server
The following issues may cause this problem:
-Your home server is not powered on
-A firewall on this computer is blocking the connection
-A proxy server is configured on this computer for the network connection
Well:
-My WHS is powered on
-I have tried disabling AVG
-I never have used a proxy, and don't see the need to.

I have tried this on two computers, both Laptops, Samsungs (one X50, one X60), running Vista Home Premium.
UPDATE: I can also confirm it didn't work for my XP laptop either (Samsung Q35)

We have a windows 2000 server, a few XP, 1 vista and 1 windows 7. Everything works fine before but all in a sudden, only the Windows 7 cannot connect to the server. The 7 is a new PC, it works and connect to the server fine for the first 3 months, but all of a sudden, it just cannot connect and keep prompting that the user name and password is wrong. I have re-install the 7 (it is HP and we use the recovery disc) and I even get a new wireless adapter to test, the 7 can get on the internet, everything except the server. But all others windows has no problem with the server, I am guess it has to do with the 7. I am getting so frustrated that I also gonna use that HP windows 7 into a door stopper.... i've been looking around and found alot of ppl with exactly the same problem like you

this anwser was given by "bresource" on a microsoft siteWindows 7 RC1 64 Bit won't connect to my companies Exchange Server. Something is going on with the authentication between the two. When I first installed Windows 7 it seemed to work fine. However, later on it all the sudden stopped working with my companies Exchange Server. I'm still able to access OWA on other machines, but on my Windows 7 machine it just keeps prompting me for a password. I've tried both the Outlook thick client and OWA on IE 8. I've tried using different ways of identifying myself to the exchange server as suggested on other sites. I confirmed my domain credentials with our admin and used Domain\User authentication to no avail. Whats crazy is that I'm able to get into OWA through firefox. It's as if MSFT refuses to work with itself here. Does anybody have any recommendations or work arounds?

It seems that this problem came up in earlier builds, but the issue was resolved by using the DOMAIN\USER as the user name, but this didn't work for me. My computer had crashed a few times about a week ago. I was looking into hardware issues until I noticed that MSE wasn't running. When I tried to open it, it opened for less than a second then closes. Windows defender did the same thing. As I was trying to look into this issue I suddenly couldn't connect to the internet anymore. When I run the windows troubleshooter it says "the wired network adapter is experiencing problems". I have no problems connecting to the internet on other computers in the house or through wifi. I'm running windows 7. I'm able to connect to the internet by using a usb ethernet adapter that I have but not through the Ethernet port. I posted a thread in "Am I infected? What do i do?" and ran a few scans. On Nov. 28, I went to use my computer and AVG wanted to reboot to install an update so I did. When windows rebooted, AVG immediately found a threat in C:\windows\syswow64\wmpduiq.dll and quarantined it. I was able to open MSE and windows defender. I tried to run a scan in MSE but 30 minutes in, it froze. I thought having AVG running may have caused a conflict so I uninstalled AVG and MSE (or so I thought). Answer:Can't connect Windows 7 Pro to Windows 2000 server Domain.

I know you have add the computer name and user name on the server, but you did not join the computer to the domain. Therefore if you try to access the share on the server, actually it accesses with an account of the server system. If you log on with Administrator in Windows 7, you need to set the password the same as the Administrator's password of the Windows 2000 system.
Also you need to change the NTLM authentication level in Windows 7.
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Please change the NTLM authentication level to ?Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated?. Please refer the following article.Arthur Xie - MSFT
