Taskbar bug, doesn't bring programs to front.

Question: Taskbar bug, doesn't bring programs to front.

This is the second time I've gotten this bug, and it seems to occur roughly two weeks after a fresh install.

Long story short, I pin all of my favorite applications to the taskbar and when I click on a running program, I expect it to bring focus to that program (bring it to the front). Instead, it flashes yellow and the window that I want stays behind every other window. The only program that does not do this is Digsby for whatever reason. Basically, the only way to see an existing window is to minimize all of the windows in front of it and only clicking on the window itself will give it focus. That's partly a lie, because I've discovered that a series of clicks on the taskbar icon will do it, namely: right click, left click, right click, left click. I don't want to have to do four clicks when one normally works.

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit acquired through the MSDN program for students (Academic Alliance or something). I do know that I never had these issues in the beta with Ultimate edition.

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Taskbar bug, doesn't bring programs to front.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Taskbar bug, doesn't bring programs to front.

I am also having this problem. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and am having the same symptoms. Clicking a program on the taskbar doesn't bring it to the front, it just blinks yellow/orange. I have to Win-tab or minimize windows in front of the program to get to it. Any help on this would be most appreciated.

Whenever i click on a button for a window in the taskbar instead of bringing it to the front it makes it flash orange like a messenger window. Also i cannot right click on the taskbar window buttons but i can right click the taskbar itself.

Let's say I have 5 programs on my taskbar. IE, calculator, word, excel and ppt. Let's say I have IE open. If I try to click on another program on taskbar, it does not show up over the IE. Same as any other program that is opened, when clicking on the taskbar program it will not show up in front of the program that is currently displayed. I have been unable to fix it in any settings. The only way I can fix it is to reset computer, but the issue comes back in the next several hours or days. Then reset again. Is there a way to fix so when program A is displayed and I click on program B from taskbar that it shows up in front of program A? It is annoying that I have to minimize the current program to see the other program. (difficult to describe issue, hope this makes sense).

Answer:Multiple programs taskbar. When one open others do not appear in front

Almost surely caused by some program you have installed or a theme you have modified.

You could also try using Clean Boot to see if you can find the cause that way.

If no help, set it up again then create an image backup of the working system.
Then make changes or install software one at a time and test. When you find the culprit, uninstall it and see if that fixes the problem. If not restore the image then make changes and install programs but leave out the one causing the problem.

Hi,

All of a sudden i'm having problems with programs in the task bar.

If i have three programs open (say for argument Outlook, Solitare and Firefox). If all three are maximised but firefox is in the foreground i would normally click on Outlook in the taskbar to bring it to the foreground. However, now when i click on the Outlook tab (or whatever it's called) it just flashes orange at me and doesn't come to the front. If i click on it again it minimizes and a third click will maximise it to the front. If i then try to switch to firefox by clicking on the tab it flashes orange at me, minimizes on the next click and maximises to the front on the third.

It's driving me up the wall.

Any advice?

Phil

Hello,

I was trying to use EaseUs to resize my partition. It failed and messed up the size information of my hard drive. Instead of Free Space: 46.0 GB Total Size: 71.3 GB, everything(Windows XP, other partition tools) showed Free Space: 70.3 GB Total Size: 71.3 GB. Even with the incorrect information I was able to use my computer fine. I read that I could use GParted Live to fix the incorrect information. I couldn't use GParted Live to fix it because it wouldn't let me resize the partition; the option just wouldn't activate.

I exited out of GParted and my computer went into a restart loop. It would get to the Safe Mode, Windows XP screen and no matter what I selected, it restarted. I went into the recovery console and it only shows e:\minint as an option. I ran Chkdsk C: /r.

The restart loop has stopped, but now when I log into my account, not every service that is suppose to load loads. The taskbar is gone. I can't access the Start Menu. I can't run any program correctly. The only good thing that has happened is that the correct information for my hard drive shows.

Answer:Taskbar Doesn't Appear/Programs Won't Load

Sounds like some System files got deleted. Go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing system files.
If that fails, you can do a Repair Install

This started this morning. Running Windows 10 Pro. I can run the browser (Chrome), luckily. Word also. But I cannot most other apps (I think), like WinSCP, but not Calc, not Notepad++, not Notepad. If I try to run Calc, it loads in the task try and if I hover the mouse over it I can see the image of it. Same with Notepad++, But if I click on the icon, nothing happens. Word is fine when loading or clicking on the task try icon. Same with Chrome. Same with Edge, Firefox, Visual Studio. So far, limited to Notepad, Notepad++ and Calc but there could be more.

More: Explorer as well.

WELL, not exactly. I use a program called Agent Ransack to search the desktop. I don't use it much but I know that you can click on an Explorer icon and choose the folders you want to search. I did that and explorer came up OK. BUT not from the Start Menu or task bar.

Unfortunately running Explorer from this program limits me to selecting folders.

Answer:Cannot bring some apps to the front

Switch to and bring to the front in Task Mgr does nothing.

If I run Word and then File->Open-Browse, I can use Explorer no problem. Just not from Start or Task Bar.

Hello, trying to find some key+click combination to bring all windows for a given application to the top of z-order. For example, I have several Putty terminal windows open in the stacked taskbar icon and I want to display all of them, not just the last used. The only work-around I have found so far is to shift+right-click and "minimize all windows" followed by "restore all windows". Any simpler way to do this?

Answer:Bring to front all windows for a certain application

+1 +1 +1...
Completely surprised that this has received no response in almost two years (698 days). Are droidix and I the only Win7 users who use more than one window of the same application and would like to bring them all to front at once?.

Without even going into third party applications - what if you just want to open two or more explorer windows to copy files from folder to folder? Win7 has given us new "side-by-side" and "stacked" window arrangements that help with this but as soon another application covers these it take many mouse clicks and/or key combinations to display them all again.

Hey Microsoft! Please add a "bring group to front" context menu command to the taskbar! <-- this will probably fall on deaf ears so if there are any third party developers out there that can do this I would gladly pay for the application, could be your road to riches.

Hi,

Can someone help me with this as i really can't think of how to do it, a quick Google search hasn't helped either and the only other place i could think of that is as useful as Google is... Seven Forums

I would like a Batch or VBS file to do the following (or something that will at least do it)

I have 1 PC with 1 Monitor...
I have 2 browser windows running full screen...

I would like to open/display/bring them to front alternately automatically.
How can this be done?

Example in readable form, well i hope:

Code:
:Start
Bring to front
"browser window 1"
Pause=30seconds

Bring to front
"browser window 2"
Pause=30seconds
GOTO :Start

Regards,
JDobbsy1987

Answer:Batch/VBS File, 'Bring To Front' help

Unless they are different browsers, it could be impossible to program something that would be able to discern "window 1" and "window 2" across many different browsing sessions.

Can you explain more of why you'd like to do this so we can think of other ways to possibly address it?

Hi,

I am working with a powerpont presentation where I have put a logo in the slide master, it needs to show on every page. So here is the problem. On some slides I have to insert pictures that cover up the portion of the logo that is saved on the master. However, the part of the picture that is covering up the logo is just dead white space, and I figure there is a way to make the logo always go to the front.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas or needs more clarification.

Thanks.

I just upgraded my Lenovo E520 laptop to Windows 10 last week. All went fairly well except I have a problem bring focus to some windows. I see past forum topics with this problem (threads 14765 and 19244) but no resolutions so I'm starting a new thread. For example, I have my Firefox browser in the forefront of my desktop and two MS Word 2010 documents minimized. If I try to bring focus to one of the Word documents, I can hover over it but not bring it into focus. When I click the file to the left, it disappears and the Firefox browser window retains focus. However, when I click the second file (to the right), it comes to the foreground and obtains focus.
The order of the files does not seem to matter. I can close one file and then reopen it and it might be able to then get focus directly from the taskbar. Once I have one of the Word documents in the foreground, I have to click on the Firefox browser 3 times to get it to obtain focus. The only consistency is that clicking on a window in the taskbar 3 times in succession is guaranteed to give it focus if the first time doesn't work.

As I read my own description of this problem, it seems completely unbelievable that this would be a valid problem but it is. The only workaround I can see is to have each application/window in its own desktop but that's also silly.

Here's a video of the full problem description:

Answer:Cannot use the taskbar to bring other windows to the forefront

Is switching apps with Alt-Tab working OK? That would be viable workaround until some solution come up.
This sounds really annoying

Edit: could the non appearing word document be in the off screen position? Did you work before on two screen or something like that?

Ie: right click on problematic doc and select move. Then move it with keys.

Just recently, I cannot bring a task to the foreground by clicking it's icon in the taskbar. This used to work really well. Now if I click the icon, it flashes orange, but nothing else happens. This seems to happens with all windows.. file lists, openoffice shreadsheets, opera browser.. but .. mozilla seems to work fine, so maybe this is related to a mozilla setting ? I am running mozilla ESR 17.0.6 (downloaded from my company's approved application site). Also, in the past week I tried using an external projector to display on a conference room, could that be related ? I have windows7 professional, and pretty much up to date with fixes due to my company's pushing on/installing fixes automatically. Any help would be appreciated, this is quite annoying.
Thanks !

Go into safe mode and uninstall the program. If double clicking on the icon doesn't work, it might be just a broken shortcut.

Running an on-line virus check wouldn't hurt if you suspect a virus.

I have a Lenovo ideapad Y530 (4051). I had to reinstall my OS (Vista) -- I couldn't get the repair partition to work and the recovery discs I made when I bought the laptop didn't seem to want to work, either. (That's another story.) At any rate, I have everything working except when I hit Fn+F5, nothing happens, so I'm not able to turn on my Bluetooth radio. I've installed all of the drivers and software I could find for this model on Lenovo's site (using my serial number), but nothing restored my Fn+F5 functionality. What do I need to install to get this feature back? Really, this is the only downside to this laptop that I've found -- the hardware button turns on and off the WLAN, but the Bluetooth radio requires a software-based solution in order to turn it off and on. It sucks for Linux, where I have to boot back into Windows just to turn on my Bluetooth and then boot into Linux again. At any rate, if I can just find what software/driver will re-enable my Fn+F5 function so that I can turn on my Bluetooth, I'll be happy.   Thanks! /Kevin

If you have Windowblinds 8 from Stardock, then that is the cause of your problems. They are working on a new version that will be compatible with win 8.1.1.

There may be other reasons for that behavior but uninstalling Windowblinds (or switching to the default WB view) solved the problem for me.

When I hit CTRL ALT DEL the task manager doesn't come up. However, this only happens when using either the left ALT, left CTRL, or both. If I use both right CTRL and right ALT, the task manager does come up. Either DEL and numpad DEL work with the right CTRL and ALT. In addition, CTRL SHIFT ESC also brings up the task manager, whether right CTRL SHIFT or left CTRL SHIFT (or a combination right and left) are used. Also, if I right click on the taskbar and choose "Task Manager", it comes up fine. Did I somehow disable the left hand CTRL ALT DEL combination? If so, how can I restore that functionality? I am running Windows XP SP2. Thank you!

A short answer: you can't.

A bit longer answer: If you clean install, you need to reinstall all your software. You can only keep your installed software when doing an in-place upgrade.

I notice that when i launch a new program in Vista, that sometimes they do not come to the front which is most annoying to me. For example I have a shortcut key on my keyboard assigned to the calculator. When I press it, the program launches, but ends up blinking in the program bar at the bottom of the screen. I then have to click on it to bring it to the front so I can see it. This happens with several other programs, but not all and I am not sure why. Can anyone offer a solution to this?

Many thanks,

Hey there. Several of us here are experiencing a problem with our TP's whereby the screen blacks out (probably because of our power saving settings) but tapping the Fn key or moving the mouse doesn't bring it back.  The machine is clearly active.  We can see the disk move.  Some people close their lap top and reopen it to fix this.  Other people hit Fn-F7 three times to bring it back.  Overall though, we'd be a lot happier if it worked as designed and simply let the screen unblank when we hit a key. My personal setting is:  Windows XP, T60p, occasionally use a docking station, but don't use external monitors. Upon rebooting the problem is not there.  Some time during the day though, it begins to misbehave again.  Once it misbehaves once, it seems to do it pretty frequently... so it must be modal.  We'd love to set our screen blanking time to a few minutes in order to be mindful of energy consumption and the environment, but this problem generally pushes us to lengthen the Windows screen blanking time considerably.

Windows XP Home SP2.
Pretty often clicking on my sound icon (Which IS present in the system tray), does not open the volume control slider. When this happens I go to Control Panel but Sound controls won't open from that location either. There's no way to control the volume and must reboot to get it back (temporarily, because it keeps happening).

Do I possibly need driver updates? If so, which one of these is my sound card?

Hello,

I'm working on a computer and the person had the "Windows XP Recovery" virus. We got the system free of malware, but one of the things it did was hid many of the programs, and even now with the virus gone it the programs are still missing.

I know they are still there. Microsoft Word was one of the missing programs, but I was still able to open the program by opening a word document.

How can I find where they are hidden and return them to their proper spot?

Thank you in advance.

Ever see this? You search google, click on a result, and then either backspace or click the back button, but instead of going back to google, you stay on the current site. Why does that happen, and is there anything to do about it?

Using IE 8 32-bit in W7 64-bit here, but have been seeing this problem for a long time with previous versions.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I've searched high and wide all over the internet to see if anyone has had this problem, and (possibly due to being quite difficult to describe) I've been unable to find a similar instance - but I would imagine it is an easy fix for someone in the know.

The problem: Since I upgraded to 10 I have an issue that occurs when I have multiple windows open; when I click the taskbar to switch program to something that is already minimised or in the background, such as a new settings screen, or any other screen which doesn't automatically maximise to full screen resolution, it will just disappear behind all other open windows. So for example, if I have chrome open and want to go to steam (or anything either unopened, minimised or in the background) I would click on the program in taskbar, the screen will flash up - but as soon as I move my cursor towards it (ie away from the taskbar), the screen that is already open will take priority and send the new screen to the back. This is rather frustrating and I've never had this problem before.

I'm not sure whether it is a taskbar problem or a window priority issue? But, I just can't seem to fix the issue.

To temporarily solve it, I have had to minimise all windows to get to the new window that I want - as it will just go to the back (unless I either quickly move my mouse to it, or if the screen is maximised and at the top already) and this isn't ideal.

Apologies for the extended description, but it is quite hard to explain. An... Read more

Answer:Taskbar bug: switching to another window -will not appear at the front

OK so after about 2 hours of messing around, I think I've found the problem. See this thread.

It seems it was a simple solution in the end (obviously!), but I'll leave this thread here just in case anyone has the same issue - for some reason when I installed windows 10, this option was checked already and was fairly difficult to find with the new settings screen on 10.

When I click an icon on the taskbar, then the corresponding application window is not moved to the front of the screen. The taskbar icon flashes for a few seconds and then remains highlighted ,as if it is waiting to be moved to the front. When I want to see a window, I am now forced to minimize all other applications that are in front of it. I haven't been able to figure out the exact pattern of the problem, since sometimes the icons do respond by moving to front. The rest of my machine seems to working fine. I have performed an "sfc /scannow" command, but that gave no results. I have tried to reboot the machine and to restart the explorer.exe. I have checked for programs clogging up the cpu resources but the cpu is hardly used. There is also enough memory left on the machine.

Another sympton is that the taskbar icons on the right do not respond well, their menu's may 'hang' (they stay visible after being used), or the menu does not appear at all after right clicking.

I am runnning windows 7 on a HP Pavilion dv7 notebook.

Answer:Clicking taskbar icon does not cause move-to-front

Try a repair install. sfc /scannow cannot catch everything, so hopefully the repair will.

Hey guys, this kid from school told me he has a Dell that for some reason the Front USB Slots do not work. Now, I've thought about it possibly being unplugged from the mobo, but I thought "how could it just come disconnected?" He says no one has ever done maintenance, so I told him he could bring it to me, and I don't know if this is something he'll have to buy a new mobo for :/ Thanks guys!

Okay... This is getting pretty frustrating. I can't multitask like before.

Windows/programs/ don't come to the front when I click on their icons in the taskbar.

Ex: I have Chrome, WordPad and File Explorer all on my taskbar. I click on File Explorer and it comes to the front. Then I click on Chrome and it comes to the front. Then I click on WordPad and it doesn't. It just sits there. I click it again... nothing. Ok, let me go back to File Explorer. Click. Nothing. Ok... so let's try hovering over the WordPad icon and the preview shows. I click on it. Nothing. Chrome is still in the front.

I've attached a video link of my example and frustration.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpfISxGGLZE

I have to minimize the program in the front and keep on minimizing through the programs in the order to get to the one I want. This is super inefficient. Before updating to Windows 10, I could just click on the icon and the program would come to the front, no questions asked.

PLEASE HELP!! I'm not computer techy or anything...

Answer:Taskbar problems minimizing, switching, bringing window to front issue

I am having the exact same issue since I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop, which is a Lenovo T440s. I have not run into this problem with my desktop. The closest thread I could find said it may be an issue with the synaptics driver on my laptop. I have installed the latest synaptic drivers from Lenovo, but the problem persists. I was going to try uninstalling the synaptic drivers to see if the problem goes away. Please post any resolution you may find if you happen to solve the problem.

I've come across a very bizarre problem on one of my rigs. Here's the specs:

MSI P4M890M-L (basic 775 mobo, via chipset)
E2140
2GB DDRII-667
Radeon X850XT-PE
Sound Blaster Audigy
Samsung 640GB

In XP, the front usb ports work fine. On a linux livecd they also work. In Windows 7, they do not. They do nothing at all--they don't even seem to provide power to usb devices in win7. It's very strange. I just booted a gentoo livecd like 5 minutes ago and I could read a flash drive just fine. I just booted into win7, and the lights on the drive don't even come on. The back usb ports work fine, even in win7.

It appears as though all of the usb controllers are showing up fine in the device manager. There are no unknown devices. I tried to install the latest vista chipset drivers from via, but the installer bailed out saying that it couldn't find the appropriate files.

The front ports on this case are, I believe, only usb 1.1. I thought this could perhaps be an issue, but I just did a test install of win7 on an old laptop of mine which only has usb 1.1 ports and they worked fine. So win7 doesn't seem to have any inherent issues with usb 1.1 ports.

Does anyone have any ideas? What could possibly cause the front ports to selectively stop working only in win7?

Answer:front usb doesn't work in win7

Check to see if you have a BIOS update available.

I'm having a problem with my sound setup. I'm using Windows 8.
I have a 2.1 channel speaker, headphone and microphone.
On rear, I've connected my 2.1 channel speakers and on the front jack, I connect my headphones and microphone.
The headphone works fine but Windows won't detect the microphone.
But when I connect the microphone in rear jack, it works fine.

I want to plug them at the front jack because at the rear jack, the headphones won't sound well in line it jack(the blue one). It used to work fine in Windows 7 but the front panel won't work in windows 8. please help me as this is screwing me off.

Answer:Front Panel Mic jack doesn't work

Check the connector from the Front Panel to he motherboard (with the PC powered off, reseat (unplug then plug back in) the connector. There could also be a problem with the front panel headphone jack.

Since this is apparently a custom built system, check the connection from the front panel. Many cases have both a HD Audio and an AC97 audio connector. If you have an HD Audio connector, that is the preferred connector.

Hello Forum Members,

I have a Creative Audigy 2ZS Platinum sound card and Front end Drive installed on my PC. Although everything is correctly installed with all the proper cables, I can't get any sound from the headphones when they're plugged into the 1/4" phone jack. Neither can I get anything to record using the front end MIC jack. I'm using a Radio Shack PZM microphone. since it uses a AA battery, I'm assuming that the microphone is of the "dynamic" type.
The Jumper is in place on the front end driver board. All drivers and features are current so, there's no problem with upgrades. Can anyone give me an idea of what's wrong? I've tried the Creative Labs website and got better information from my dog :hotbounce :hotbounce

Hi.
I'm using windows 10 and I have the latest version of both NVIDIA and Realtek high definition drivers, but my computer doesn't recognize anything when I plug in my headphones/earphones.
All of solutions I've seen worked with the previous Realtek HD audio manager but I have this (I think) new one.

While taking this screenshot, my headphones were plugged in, but no sign of its detection anywhere in my PC.

Does anybody have a solution for this?
Thanks.

Answer:Realtek front panel jack doesn't detect anything

Has this ever worked? I assume you are using a headset with a separate stereo plug for the headset and another for the mic and NOT USB?

That Realtek panel is an ASUS custom panel. ASUS has different panels than other PC's. I have an ASRock and it defaults to the "standard" Realtek provided panel. However, what is displayed looks correct.

Assuming the headset works OK if plugged into the rear GREEN speaker connection, first thing I would do is reseat (unplug then plug back in) the front panel audio connector to the motherboard (with the PC powered off). Usually the motherboard connection is located in the lower left of the motherboard. Connector is usually marked "HD Audio" but you could have the older AC97 connector.

If the physical connection is OK, and it worked OK before, go to the Device Manager, Uninstall the Realtek in the Sound section, but DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. See if this fixes it.

Best I can tell you without more specific information.

So my Velociraptor died Thursday and I took the plunge upgrading from XP to 7 RC. Here's the rub:

My Gigabyte G31M has the Intel HD Audio bits, but my older case (Antec P180) has the AC '97 front panel header. I had connected them anyway, however "sensing" headphones never worked. Under XP all that meant is that my speakers wouldn't turn off when plugging in the headphones.

However, Win7 won't even play out of the front panel, unless it detects headphones. So my headphones are not working. I've scoured the internets for a way to either:

1. Force Win7 to always play out the front panel in addition to the speakers, like my XP setup.
2. Detect headphones when plugged into the old front panel.

I have failed on both counts. So mighty [H] crowd: Do you hold the key to my salvation?

Big thanks in advance, if somebody can help me out with this.

Hey :)
The front panel (the thing with the USB & audio ports at the front) didn't really work so I decided to open up my PC and remove it.
It was obviously connected to the main board so I just unplugged it and took it out and now the sound on the PC does not work.
There is no error shown at all. The PC shows that there is sound coming out but nothing comes out of the speakers (which were always plugged in at the back anyway).
I assume I have to turn something off int he BIOS but I have no idea really.
Can someone help with this? :)

Answer:Sound doesn't work after removing front panel?

I suggest you look to see what model/make of motherboard and Bios version you have and then download the manual and diagrams for it so you can see what connections are necessary for the sound.

Not making contact properly, could be either the socket or the plug. Try different headphones, if still same fault then I would suspect the socket on pc.

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

An option to compare file contents when collecting automatically makes copies of files containing differing data but a duplicate name. This option removes the need for any user input when collecting.

Recently in cleaning up 2 vista computers I found that all spyware removal tools such as Malwarebytes or Unhackme have an addional symbol pasted over the bottom corner of the regular ICON. It looks like a 2 or 4 color shield. I know this is bad but I cannot pin-point the culprit. Has anyone see this come up? How do I get rid of it?

I am planning to restore this last one to factory, but I would like to know what this issue is for future reference

I'm running Home Premium x64 on an Acer Aspire 6935 (Core2 Duo T6600 @ 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM) and Vista is running just fine. Knowing that won't always be the case, though, I decided to check out the Advanced Boot Options.

Problem is, I can't. No amount of F8-ing on boot does anything, be it continuous pressing or tapping every second or two. And I start from the BIOS screen itself.

I know Vista can do it on its own -- it went to the Advanced Boot Options once on its own volition, after the system froze on me (only happened once), so the ABO itself is not damaged.

What am I doing wrong here? What alternatives are there to F8, besides setting the relevant option in MSCONFIG? (That's something I won't be able to do if I ever need the advanced boot options because Vista won't load on its own).

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,
Realtek driver version: R2.75 [The problem was still there when I used default audio drivers shipped with Windows].
I hope you are all doing well. I've been trying to get my system audio front panel to work for a longg time now. I am using build 10041 and the issue still persisted. This is the 3rd build since I've started using Windows 10 and I am still not able to solve the problem. I need front panel to work because my built in audio back panel female jacks decided not to work. When I use back panel, I frequently keep getting "Audio plugged" and "Audio unplugged" popups and there's no audio. I believe it's with the ports. I've permanently started using front panel which works perfectly fine in Windows 7 but not at all in Windows 10 preview. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here are all the screenshots that I took to explain things in details.Image 1:Image 2:Image 3: - No front panel option.Image 4:Image 5:Image 6:Image 7:Image 8:
I hope the images make the problem clear. Looking forward to get some help.
Regards
Usman Ghani

Answer:[Windows 10 issue] Audio Front Panel doesn't work.

did you try uninstalling and then manually reinstalling the audio drivers? 10041 seems to have a LOT of bugs regarding audio and video displays. I had audio issues that were for the most part fixed by making several attempts to install drivers till they stuck. It will still randomly have driver issues for that and several other things but effective overall

I'm looking at PC for a friend. The power supply was obviously dead so I grabbed another one, matching the wattage. When I plug power into the PSU and turn on the switch on the PSU the computer boots. I try to turn it off with the power button on the front bezel but it has no effect.
Figuring it might be a problem with that PSU I tried another one, but with the same effect. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Kevin

Answer:Solved: Changed PSU, front power switch doesn't work?

Since it's not the P/S, it's either the MB or the power switch. Disconnect the power switch from the MB connection, then plug the system in. It should NOT power up by itself, unless the BIOS is configured that way. In any case, short the two pins for the power switch briefly, and it should act just like you pressed the power switch. If so, the switch and/or wire is bad. Otherwise, it's probably the MB that has the problem.

Hey there,

I'm using the onboard sound of my ASUS P7P55D motherboard.
The back audio connectors work fine, but I somehow can't use the front panel that I connected to the mobo (yellow cable).

Is there a trick or any setting to activate it with win7 professional x64?

I also tried changing to AC97 in BIOS, didn't help...

thx!

Answer:Front audio Panel doesn't work (ASUS P7P55D motherboard)

Check which it is that the csae has as they are wired differently between HD Audio and AC97,

It is also possible that that fpaudio block is wired wrong and neither will work. If that is what it is it will take pulling and reseating the various wires in the block; not easy but can be done.

I think this is an Office 2003 issue (using Win 7 64 bit). I only notice it in Word and Powerpoint. If I open a Word file, for example, by double clicking in Explorer (when I have other Word files already open), when I x-out to close the Word file in front - it brings (leaves) one of the other Word files to the front, rather than Explorer, which should be right "behind" it (because I just opened the file from there). This is maddening and wastes so much of my time, as I frequently browse and open many files quickly in Explorer, close them, and then always have to tab back to Explorer when it should be right in front. It does not happen with many PDF files open, for example. I hope that is clear. This is an issue with how the files are "layered".

i have searched and searched the web and found no one else complaining about this. I know XP didn't do this. Please help me. I swear I am not making this up....

Word.

Tom

Answer:How stop Office programs bringing other files to front after closing?

I love how you ended it: "Word".

I am experiencing the same thing. I happen to have Word 2003 and yep, it's doing the same thing. I didn't know that it didn't do this in XP and that it does this in 7 because I've never done anything to make me notice. However, I can see how stupid this is. It's inconsistent. It's almost as if Windows 7 is programmed to do this with Microsoft Office, almost like it's saying, "I see that you have other files open in Word. Therefore, when you close this one I'll shift the focus to the last document you looked at instead of shifting focus back to me". It's like, "Uh, wait a minute. That's inconsistent, Windows. What's wrong with you?"

I'm beginning to wonder if there's something in the Registry that is making it behave this way.

Thanks,

Answer:Satellite U920T - front/back cam + touch screen + win button doesn't work

Since you mentioned different issues with your notebook, I think that in this case its advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings just to check if all these problems are related to system problem.

Regarding the webcam: the Windows 8 /8.1 already contains the webcam drivers and therefore additional webcam driver installation isn?t possible. Additional webcam driver does not exist simply.

From my point of few the whole description smells a little bit like a hardware problem of the upper slide part where the touchscreen is part of.
The win button as well as the both cams are located there and probably there is some lose connection between the two parts (touchscreen and keyboard)

Anyway, as I said above, its advisable to recover the notebook to factory settings just to ensure that the system isn?t the troublemaker.
In case of hardware problems, you would need to get in contact with service available in your country.

Hi guys, this is my very first forum post ever in my life and I hope I get super help.So there I was working on my computer one day. I was downloading a youtube video with a program that has scheduled shutdown computer option upon download completion. I turned that on and turned off my monitor. After about 1-2 mins I noticed the power and HDD indicator lights in front of the CPU casing is turned off so I thought for some reason my pc probably turned off. I tried turning it on by pressing the power button and at the same time turned my monitor on. It turned on with a light-brown colored background so I quickly hit restart but then it won't turn on. I plugged by USB in hoping it would try to boot from the USB (my bios settings primary boot is set to removable devices). Then I pressed the power button again but THIS TIME I noticed that a very bad wire-burning type smell is coming out so I instantly turned EVERYTHING off. Later I opened my CPU casing and tried smelling the devices and found that probably the smell is coming from my second (and newer) hard disk that is about 10 months old. So, finding no hope and ideas I threw myself to computerhope.com's forum from my school laptop...please anyone help me out ASAP!Note that when I still try to turn my the pc on the power supply fan, the ethernet lights and even the DVD-rom drive works; so I am totally confused! My pc is  Intel Core2duo, 2GB ram/memory, 256 internal video memory, primary hard-disk=160gb and secondary... Read more

Answer:CPU/Power Supply fans work but indicator light in front doesn't turn on.

Minimal boot is where I'd start. If motherboard has integrated video use that, disconnect all drives, and just have the motherboard set up with 1 ram stick, and try to boot. If you get it to boot then shut it down and add 1 component and boot up again if no boot then you found the cause if it boots then move to next component to add and repeat. If no boot on minimal boot, then swap single Ram stick with another if you had more than 1 stick. If still no minimal boot swap power supply. If still no minimal boot its something local to motherboard. Unistall CPU and check for damage and reinstall it, apply thermal compound and heatsink and try another boot. If still no boot, I'd buy or use a different motherboard unless you have a POST card to work with and want to troubleshoot deeper.Cooked component smell is not a good thing, if you can localize the smell and find burned traces or parts that would be a help in determining if this can be saved or if you need to start a new build. I have only seen one hard drive smoke before and that was my friend way back when SATA drives first came out and it had a P connection as well as SATA power. He hooked up both and cooked it. On a small warning in the box it warns not to plug power to both. I'd doubt if your drive is one of these drives given that you mentioned that it is 10 months old.

At first it work fine but when I unpin and tried to pin to taskbar again it didn't work.
The options available, I can select pin to taskbar but it didn't appear in taskbar(No.3 in the screenshot).
You can see in the picture, the option in No.1 work fine, I can select to pin/unpin but not work as well as No.2.

I also tried this but not work:
-Add/Remove shortcut from C:\User\......\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\Taskbar
-Set Local Policy "Remove pinned programs from the Taskbar", "Do not allow pinning items in Jump Lists", "Do not allow pinning programs to the Taskbar", ""Do not allow Taskbar on more than one display" to Disable.

"Pin to start" works fine.

Sorry for my bad English.

Hi,

I'm currently having a problem where pinning any kind of shortcut to the taskbar via its context menu doesn't do anything. That is, a pin doesn't appear on the taskbar, and in the location '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar' no shortcut file is created.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Professional from Windows 7 Professional. That may be the cause.
Another potential factor is that previously, I have followed this guide (using both methods described) in order to further customize my system. The reason I mention that is because in researching I read the answer posted here. Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem by undoing the first method of that guide; also there is no way to undo the second method of that guide, and I have been unsuccessful in fixing the problem by following the solution that answer describes (I couldn't find the 'Inkfile' folder). By the way, is it wrong that the 'link' key I deleted in following the process to undo the first method hasn't reappeared after restarting?

I'm not sure what to try next.
I would really appreciate some help... sorry to be foolish enough to try and customize my system a bit, if that is what caused this issue.
For now, I guess I'll have to use shortcut toolbars on my taskbar. Or is there a registry location where I can at least go in and, say, add a key with a shortcut address and icon address to add a pin with those properties?

Thanks in advance,
Felewin

When I mouse over the taskbar buttons, the glow doesn't go away after I move the mouse away. This doesn't happen all the time, but seems to always pop up eventually on every boot, and persists until I restart.

It's done this across several gpu driver updates, so it must be something with Win7.

I found this old thread here but the link they had to fix it is no longer there, and I can't find any info elsewhere on this.

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Answer:Taskbar button glow doesn't go away

Hi SubGum,

Welcome to the forums. . Can't give you the sig link you refer, but if you've updated your video drivers, you may want to try adjusting Visual Effects settings, as per this post:

Right mouse click bug

The specified setting to the OP of that thread may not apply to you, but there are many other settings that may resolve your problem. Just try the ones that seem logical and click apply, then mouse over a button to see if it helps. Worth a try...

Trying to get my new image out the door for Windows 10 Pro x64 - 1703 and the last issue I'm having is the Taskbar customization.

I followed the steps here: Configure Windows 10 taskbar (Windows 10) | Microsoft Docs

I exported the start menu configuration as described int eh document.

I have put the file in %LOCALAPPS%\Microsoft\Windows\Shell and set the GPO with gpedit.msc so it is not a domain GPO. I have also set the GP for both user and computer with the same settings as a troubleshooting step (not sure if it would cause an issue by doing that).

When I sysprep the machine everything works EXCEPT the taskbar modifications. Not sure what is going on.

Here is the XML file for the modifications. Anyone see anything wrong with what I'm doing?

The only other piece of information that I can provide is that we are using Classic Shell so I don't know if that would prevent the settings being applied.

Answer:Mini-icons on taskbar doesn't appear

Run System Restore and restore back to an available restore date that is PRIOR to running the remove utility. That should get you back to where you were originally.

Click the start "orb" and then enter System Restore in the search box and then press enter. System Restore should come up. If not, it can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.

When you mouse over a button on the taskbar in Windows 7, the button glows in the predominant color of the program's icon, with the glow being most intense where the cursor currently is. Then the cursor leaves the button, the glow goes away.

hi eveyone,
i have just installed deep freeze on win xp sp2. the problem is that after i have restarted my computer i couldnt see its icon on taskbar.
Is there any way to uninstall it or make it appear on the taskbar?

Answer:deep freeze doesn't appear on taskbar

Hello omarT

Uninstall
Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. Find it in the list and click the "Uninstall" button.

Appear on Taskbar
If the deep freeze icon appears in the system tray it means that the program is starting every time you boot up. Do you want that to happen?
If that is what you want to happen
Assuming XP is on ?C?, you could put a shortcut for the program in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Then the program will start at bootup and an icon should appear in the system tray.

Sometimes my taskbar lookes the ability to know when my cursor leaves the taskbar.  For example, I point at a running app, and I see the color light up and the preview appear.  Then I move my mouse away and the color effect stays and the preview
won't go away.  I click on something on my desktop and the preview disappears, but the color effect is still on the icon acting like I'm pointing at it.
And no, I'm not gonna kill the .explorer.exe process, and I don't want to restart my computer every 5 minutes for it to away, because it comes back again, every time and it is random. I don't have installed any themes or tweak programs, the Windows is completely
vanilla. It doesn't matter what programs I install or have installed, I already formatted, then installed only the basics (Internet driver, browser, audio, etc) and it still happened, and again, it's NOT a graphics driver issue, I tested it.
This is not a driver related problem, this is a Windows Seven bug. Is there any way at all to fix this? Or remove that yellow glow completely? This is really annoying!
Here is a picture of it, in case you don't know exactly what I'm referring to:

Notice that even though the folder is selected, the glow freezes on any program/folder on the taskbar you hover your mouse. The windows thinks that the mouse cursor is still there, so it never goes away.

Answer:Taskbar Hover Glow Doesn't Go Away

Hi,
But I have never encountered this kind of issue. Please update your display card driver to latest version. Since you have already tried to reinstall Windows 7. Based on my experience, this should be a display driver issue.
Also, you may change a theme or disable Areo effect and reenable it again for a test.Juke Chou
