Office 2016 Confusion Click to install and stand alone versions

Question: Office 2016 Confusion Click to install and stand alone versions

Hi there
Windows update seems to get Office Updates into a total twist.

Apparently 2 ways of installing Office -- either the "Click to Install" from Ms directly or install from the MSDN iso.

If you install from the "Click to install" then updates come via clicking Update in the account settings.

If you install from the MSDN iso then updates come from standard Windows updates (enable update for other products from Ms).

However even with the click to install version you still see some updates coming via Windows update - and sometimes these fail.

Why Ms has two different update mechanisms for essentially the same product seems totally BONKERS and confusing to the user.

Note also if you have say the MSDN Office iso installed and now you want to add PROJECT 2016 then install fails with "Cannot install Click to Install Office products with Other versions -- so it would seem the only way is to uninstall the MSDN version and install the whole kybosh via the Click to install method.

A Real Pain if you need to install this stuff on a load of PC's as each one then needs a download (approx. 3GB each time ) - I'm using a VL version BTW.

The MSDN Iso is easy to install locally on a number of PC's.

Please FIX this mess Ms.

Cheers

Preferred Solution: Office 2016 Confusion Click to install and stand alone versions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Afternoon

I'm at my wits end on this one and have searched online blogs and guides for hours to no avail.

I'm trying to log into a desktop only version of Outlook (one with full ribbon and lots of choice tool bars etc) as opposed to the basic offering of 365 or web outlook. I managed to get into it using a clients email address earlier but now I can't gt that one off my system to log in a new one to ty out some new things I need setting up such as email mail merge. I can't do lots of testing and trying out on their account but I'm unable to delete that one from the account settings. I tried setting up another one in the account settings and changing the default but still no joy getting rid of it.

Hopefully some of this makes sense and you can help.

Many thanks

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

Try installing 32bit option - you really do not need 64bit unless doing some mega powerful stuff.

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Is it possible to install two versions of MS Office on the same PC? Say, 2k and 2003. Do not ask why I want to do it, I want to find if it is possible or not. Any advice will be appreciated.

Answer:Install two Versions of Office on same PC?

I would think so. I had "Works Suite 2003" and "Office XP" installed at the same time. Once all my files had been checked to work correctly I removed "Works" without causing any problems to XP. j.

Maybe this should be a post under software but I suspect somehow my OS Vista Home Premium is the culprit - I think!

Basically I first tried to install MS Office 2007 on a newly installed HDD but it encountered an error (no message number etc shown) and promptly uninstalled itself. I tried this several times (from a Disc) but each time it failed in exactly the same place!

OK bad disc suspected!!

Then tried a old Office 2003 CD - exactly the same!

Not to be beaten, I downloaded the Trial Version of MS Office 2010 and yep, believe it or not, it also failed at round about the same place as the others!

I also made sure that Windows Installer was up to date (have SP2) so I am really stumped on this one.

All other software installs perfectly .......................................

So why does MS Office present such a crazy problem with never an error message or explanation of any kind?

I'm beaten!

Desktop Computer running Windows 10, I'm currently using Microsoft Office 2007, and use Outlook for my emails.
I've recently got Office 2016 on DVD, can I just install 2016 over the top of 2007 ?, or am I better saving all my contacts/ emails and uninstall 2007 first. Thanks

Answer:Best Way To Install Office 2016

There have been considerable compatibility isues with Office 2016 and Microsoft Exchange 2007, but I have no personal knowledge of any problems installing over Office 2007.
Your suggestion of backing up contact details (and emails, as you use Outlook) and then running a clean install of Office 2016 might just be the safest route in the circumstances. You can then import your contacts and emails.

I currently have a licence for Office 2010 for 3 PCs installed on 3 PCs.

I want to retire Office 2010 on my main desktop PC and use Office 2016 instead for which I've bough a cheap single PC licence. I then want to use the spare Office 2010 licence on a fourth PC (but only 3 will be using Office 2010).

What's the best way to install Office 2016 to keep all of my email settings? I'm assuming I should install Office 2016 in parallel with Office 2010 so the new Office 2016 installation picks up my email settings, then uninstall Office 2010 to free up 1 licence. Is this correct or is there a better way?

Good day all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but after I installed Office 2016 Pro, I noticed that it immediately pooped all of the Office apps onto my PC including ones that I really don't need. There's no custom option to select the ones you want and the ones you don't (unlike Office 2013).
I read that it's apparently intended to do so and Microsoft actually has called it a technology (Click To Run Technology).

I was wondering if there's ANY way to be able to exclude apps before the install so that they won't install. Is there a file that I can edit and if so, how exactly should I edit it?

Answer:No Custom install for Office 2016?

Folks have complained about this same problem in the Windows 10 forums -- and the response there is that MS has removed the option to choose what components to install.

I have used various Office product throughout the years and on install had the opportunity to "Custom Install" which allowed all types of changes from programme file locations to programmes to be loaded.
My (detachable) laptop has a limited hard-drive size, and I would like to just install Outlook, Word and Excel, however I am not given the opportunity to choose what is install, and if I go to "add/remove programmes" I see uninstall; change; repair; however the change (which use to allow change of programmes loaded) does not give me the choice.

Hi,
sort of newbie question...but can not solve!!
I?ve got my new HP Laptop with WIN10 home factory installed installed .I?ve got my just burned Office2016 pro install DVD, which works like a champ on my old Win 7 laptop.

Now, as soon as I try to install on the new win10 laptop, a message states there?s a missing file....no error code, no any other message!!! NOTHING!!!!

What could be wrong?

Is there any limitation on new laptops so only Office 365 can be used (just a thought...)
Thanks!!!

I don't have much to help you except a suggestion :
Burn another DVD. Something might have gone awry in the first one.

I don't have Office 2016. Mine is a 2007 edition.
So, I have a silly question :
Assuming the 2016 is still running in the old Win 7 computer. Are you allowed to install the same 2016 to another computer with the same license ?

I have Win 10 Pro running on an iMac via Parallels 10 and it runs perfectly. Also on the iMac I have Win 7 Pro, again running perfectly. Before anyone asks why both, it was simply to try Win 10 before ditching my Win 7 setup. On the Win 10 computer, I have installed the latest Office prog. The home and student version allows me tho install up to 5 copies on any platform.
My question is simply this, if I uninstall Office 365, will that be credited against my total installations or not?

I have gone to the microsoft website and they do not answer any questions in regard to this. This never happened before the office 365 installation.

Performed a clean install of Win 10 14332 and all is working well with the exception of installing my corporate MS Exchange email via Office 2016.

The issue is when I launch MS Outlook and provide the appropriate credentials (email, password, etc.) I receive the additional MS Security prompting for the corporate MS Exchange email/account (password (email or Domain account). The issue, even though the MS Security box is present I can?t click the field to enter the password and MS Outlook (32) goes into a Not Responding status in task manager ? see below.

Never had this issue in the past until this latest build ? installed successfully on every prior build. Any advice/direction would be appreciated.

Is there any way to define an installation directory other than C: for office 2016? I tried installing it a few months ago and there didn't seem to be via the installer, and the Office Deployment Tool didn't let to choose the installation target directory, only the source.

How could they think for one second that it was appropriate to strip this option out of the installer?

I've had about enough of Microsoft's "fuck you, we know best" attitude. I just stopped using Windows 10 due to how increasingly difficult it had become to prevent indiscriminate automatic driver updates.

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!
Thanks

then it changes to

I downloaded and installed over my 2015 patch C antivirus to see if that would work, and had no problems. After the restart it did come up disabled, then got enabled after a bit. I opened it and it had the databases never updated, so I started an update. It did a 50MB download. While it was downloading I noticed Defender was on and I couldn't get it off. But after the download it went away, and everything was as it should.

I'm pricing out our first Server 2016 multi CPU box and really confused with the switch to per core licensing vs Server 2012s per socket (server 2012 standard included 2 sockets)

Can anyone verify I am getting this right and that for a dual cpu, 24 core server we would need to purchase a copy of server 2016 standard as well as 4 x 2 core licenses? (16 included with the OS and 8 additional core licenses)

All the information I have read tells me this is the case, but I can't actually find core licenses for sale.

Are these licenses just like CALs where they don't do anything but save our ass if we are audited? Or do I have to enter them into the server like RDS CALs to get full functionality?

Thanks for any input. I hate dealing with Microsoft and CALs..........

Answer:Server 2016 core licensing confusion

Each license covers 2 cores
Each CPU socket requires minimal 8 cores of licenses (4 licenses)
Each server (even with 1 socket) require minimal of 16 cores licensed (8 licenses)
Therefore, if you have 24 cores on 2 sockets, you need 12 licenses.

CAL licenses are for users accessing Standard or Datacenter edition. If you have essentials/small business server there are no CALS. The server core licensing is just to buy the OS to put on a box.

You should work with a reseller like CDW that has licensing people. You just tell them what you have and they will sell you the correct licensing.

Answer:Jan 1 2016 Support for all ear;ier IE versions will cease.

Internet Explorer 9 is the highest version of Internet Explorer you can have in Windows Vista. You'll need Windows 7 for Internet Explorer 11, or Windows 8.1 (since Windows 8 stops at Internet Explorer 10 which is the default web browser). Obviously, Windows 10 is also another option.

Windows XP SP3 + Updates

When I install IE8 (from IE6) I can no longer click any link in an Office 2003 Word, Excel, Outlook document.
It does not matter if the link is to an internal site, external site or UNC path it keeps coming back with "Due to restrictions on this computer..."
Even clicking the "Start Page" button in Outlook will prompt this restriction message.

If you have administrative rights, it works no problem.

I can launch IE8 directly and navigate.
I can open My Computer and enter a link in the url bar and it will launch IE8.

I've gone through both the IE and Office2003 ADM's but do not see anything related to this.

This is also the case for IE7.

If I uninstall IE8 (back to IE6) the problem goes away.

Does Office 2003 or IE8 call upon a different EXE (or file) to launch externally from a program?
I am running a "run only allowed apps" list.

We currently use Office 2007 and Office 2010 on our about 20 workstations. I'm looking to move to MS office 365 for hosted exchange. I found out that as of the first of this year, Microsoft no longer support Outlook 2007 or 2010 for hosted exchange. It seems to be working just fine so far at another site I'm involved with. The issue is that if you ever contact support, they will blame the version of Outlook you're on. So, I'm looking at options for upgrading.

Do you guys that are on office 365 for email using the premium version that includes the office subscription or buy Office 2016?

For the most part, we just need outlook, word and excel. We do have 6 people that will need powerpoint also.

Just looking for a recommendation from you guys on what makes the most sense.

Thanks!

Office 2016 Installation Routine Deleting Older Stand-alone Apps

I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "[email protected]" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "[email protected]". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.
Please advise,

Answer:Installing office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, PC username replaced

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

The issue is specific to Office 2016 on Win 10 (Office 2016 on Win 7, no problem, Office 2010 on Win 10, no problem). Certain documents (reported by a user who receives documents with Japanese text, haven't seen it happen with others) have the layout messed up, a 2 page Word doc gets spread over 4 pages, and I've been given some sample powerpoint slides which have text overflowing the end of the slide.

Word doc was originally in Legacy 2003 format, I did manage to make this particular document display correctly by saving it in .docx format, then enabling compatibility changes via vba, setting to 2010 compatibility and enabling "Use printer metrics to lay out document" based on what I read here: BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes - Microsoft Community

The other sample file I received was a .pptx - haven't been able to find corresponding compatibility options in Powerpoint.

Wouldn't be quite so annoying if they didn't both display perfectly in Windows 7.

Answer:Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

Turns out it was some sort of font substitution issue. I noticed the fonts in Word/Powerpoint weren't present in the Windows font dir. Copied them over from another Win 7 machine, suddenly everything looks fine.

Not sure why Office 2010 did a better job of it than 2016, I couldn't really pick if there was a difference in the Japanese characters before and after the font, only that the page layout was stuffed...

This is my first time posting. I have relied on this site for so many years to solve multiple problems. But this time, so many things are going wrong, I can't figure out where to start. I am using an HP Pavilion a367c desktop running Window XP. Using AOL 9.1 for internet access, firewall, antivirus, spyware and mail. Also using Spybot. I have two teenagers who spend many hours viewing YouTube and anime clips; I suspect malware. Recently had to reinstall AOL (went from 9.0 to 9.1) because AOL would not start (said file was corrupted). Recently had trouble installing H&R Block Tax Cut 2007 (tech support had me disable everything in msconfig.com startup, install software and then enable everything). Current problems include:

1) After going to AOL, sometimes the mouse will not double-click. Roll-over works, but nothing else with mouse does (no double-click, no left click). No error message. Can not CTL-ALT-DEL, have to turn computer off and then back on to re-boot.
2) Way too much stuff starting at startup. Went online for advice on modifing startup with msconfig.com. I don't know if this helped or hurted me.
3) Something during startup is prompted me to install Office 2000. Have to cancel out install process everytime. Very annoying.

I was formerly a computer programmer (IBM AS/400), so I can follow directions (for the most part).

If you wish to carry out a a complete repair of your Office 2016 or Office 365 installation on your Windows 10 PC, you can choose to undertake an Online Repair.
Quick Repair runs faster but only detects and replaces corrupted files. Online Repair takes longer, but does an uninstall and a complete repair.
To carry out an Online Repair, open Control Panel > Programs & Features. Here right-click on Office installation and select Change. You will see the following box.
Select Online Repair and let setup do its work. This post offers additional options on how to Repair Office & Uninstall individual Microsoft Office programs, along with help of switches.

Hi there

I think this comment is allowed - there is an NDA but I think this is OK. The latest update installs OFFICE 2016 just fine and works OK. Office 2010 is left untouched so you can run BOTH concurrently.

OUTLOOK 2016 though uses the same data file as Outlook 2010 so SEND from outlook 2010 hoses up with "Cant access Outlook data file".

However once you've sent the email with Outlook 2016 you can see it in the SENT folder of both Outlook 2010 and 2016 so using Outlook 2016 during the preview won't cause carnage to your existing office outlook.

So far very impressed -- FORGET OFFICE 2013 completely. 2016 is STREETS better and you can get rid of that hideous over white theme too. NDA so can't post image.

Note I'm using x-64 for both Office 2010 and 2016.

If you want to try the Links were open this morning -- this could have been an error because they might close again soon.
So far so good -- note some people get activation message unless they have Office 365 subscription --I don't have and didn't seem to get that message.

Am using Windows 10 x-64 Enterprise as the OS I'm testing this on --running on a REAL machine, build 9926.

Cheers

Since upgrading my main desktop to Windows 10, I began having trouble with my Office 2013 installation. I would get the "swirling circle" and the "application has stopped responding" error messages very frequently. I was able to buy the Office 2016 suite for $10 through my employer (Microsoft HUP) and since upgrading the application, I have not seen the error. Of course, I've only had Office 2016 on my PC for one day, so I'll keep checking to see if the problem returns. Has anyone else had issues with Office 2013 and Win10? Thanks!

Answer:Office 2013 issues, upgraded to Office 2016...

In fact Office is working nicely for me in Windows 10. I had PCs with Office 2007 and even with the old Office 2003 and I have not yet had complaints about crashes.

Microsoft offers a FixIt tool, which allows you to do a clean uninstall of the Office 2013 files so that you can afterwards create a clean Office installation again. As an additional ressort, there even is a description of how to manually uninstall Office 2013. I did not have to test it, but that might have helped you as well.

Hi there

It looks like that a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2016 will be available at around 90 GBP - 105 EUR while an Office 365 subscription will be around 60 GBP - 73 EUR for 1 year. Since the Student edition will work on 3 machines it seems to me the subscription model is bad value compared with Office 2016.

Now there might be a caveat -- not sure if OUTLOOK 2016 is included with Student and Teacher --we'll have to wait and see.

There *Might* also be an Upgrade price from Office 2010 / 2013 too.

I bought my Office 365 for cheap in college. It is registered to me under a college email that I no longer can access.
(this is a problem because I used that account to sign up for Bing Ads and the customer support is always messing with me to prove it is my account, hard to do when you cannot access the old email, it is a pain in the rear)
Anyway, if I buy 365 again and register it under a new email, will I lose access to all the storage I have in my school account, or will that remain. Can the accounts be synced? (the on-screen prompts imply they can be synced, but I don't trust MS enough to not verify that this is true)

I assume if I just renew it under the now-defunct email address nothing will change. Except I will be out $69 for a 1 year subscription.

What if I just buy Office 2016 for $71 and keep it for several years.
(if these guys are for real, https://www.istarsoftware.com/112-microsoft-office-2016)

Is there a difference for my purposes? I use MS Word, Excel and Outlook daily.
But I use them at the novice to lower average level user level.

Do you think Office 2016, that will last for several years and is cheaper, will be OK?

I use Outlook to access various emails and I do some very simple spread sheet manipulations with Excel.

To be honest, if it weren't for Outlook I would probably not buy it at all. I like the email client. Otherwise Open Office (I think it is called) is more than sufficient I would think.

No.

While possible it is not recommended to install multiple versions of Office on the same computer. But they both must be the same bits. The only way this could be done is to install one on a virtual machine.

Basically, I have Office 2003 Professional and MS Photodraw 2000 Version 2.

However, in 'Add & Remove Programs', it says I also have Office XP Professional installed.

My question: If I uninstall/remove 'Office XP', will Photodraw still be capable of running as normal?

Answer:Different MS Office Versions

Since XP Office Professional is a suite of programs, removing it will remove all associated programs with it. But then, you can also choose which programs you would like to leave behind.

Try doing this:

1. Go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs
2. Select Office XP Professional and click Change
3. Click Add or Remove Features
4. Set programs you don't need to Not Available then click on update

If I had two different versions of Microsoft Office on my PC how likely am I to have problems due to software conflicts?

Background: I already have a version of MS Office installed. However, I need to be able to open Publisher files. I don't have Publisher as part of my installed Office suite. I have discovered the only way that I can open Publisher files is to download a trial version of Office. It is no longer possible to download a standalone trial version of Publisher. The only trial version of Office available is the latest one.

Answer:Two Versions of Office

My suggestion is that installing the trial version of Office will probably automatically uninstall the older version as there would be conflicts.

Are you aware of OpenOffice or LibreOffice? They are both free Office alternatives and should be able to open publisher files.

I say MS Office 15, that's what it is according to the files but it's "Office Home and Student 2013"
I had gotten it a couple years ago for online school on this laptop when I had windows 7 and it worked just fine, I recently upgraded to windows 10, then reinstalled and wiped the SSD and now decided to install Office again but there's a couple problems

First off there's just general confusion.
There's no desktop icon, nothing in any of the libraries with anything to do with Office, nothing relevant in appdata apart from a 1kb "RoamingCustom" .txt file, I checked program files and found a few .exe files but that's it. Another program I've used did the same thing, except the installer apparently acted as the .exe for the program after it had finished installing, but Office doesn't do this since I've run the installer several times now.
Here's a list of all the .exe files I bothered trying and what they did:

Program Files/Microsoft Office 15/root/office15

EXCEL.exe: Error: "We're sorry, but Excel has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Excel will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?" I don't bother clicking help, repair now and close do essentially the same thing.

excelcnv.exe: Literally nothing.

FIRSTRUN.exe: Runs through the installation messages, without actually installing.

ONENOTE.exe: Same error as Excel

POWERPNT.exe: Same error as OneNote and Excel, except the PowerPoin... Read more

If you try to click on the floating label (prior to it floating), then it will just act like static text and not allow input.
Can you please confirm if there is a workaround for this issue in IE 10 & lower versions?

I was reading this thread (Anyone know about installing Office '10 on a comp w/a 365 2016 subscription?) and found a possible reason why my training systems are suddenly giving extreme trouble!

I teach MS Office to various clients (mostly low income referrals) and have to have 4 or 5 versions of MS Office available depending upon what version the client has. Now with the stupid subscription version(s) there seems to be an issue with running older versions together on the same machine. I teach Versions 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 (occasionally even 2003!) and it now has become a nightmare to support these clients.

Some clients have recently donated machines with the newer SAS licenses (I have another word for that software-as-service model!) but most have older versions on donated systems. Most clients with the newer licenses will be unable to renew them and continue to use them at the expiry due to not having credit. Most are social services referrals and older fixed income people.

Any known workaround? The versions are all legitimate licenses, which were donated to the (non-profit) program I founded and serve in.

Answer:Multiple MS Office versions

As indicated in the link, you can't reliably (if at all) run a subscription version alongside a stand-alone version on the same machine. In any event, once a donated machine's subscription licence expires (which would be immediately if the subscription is transferred to a new PC, as one would expect), the new owner will be unable to use it anyway.

For teaching purposes, the subscription & stand-alone versions are the same, so you should be able to use a PC with multiple stand-alone versions on the same PC for that. Do be aware, though, that Outlook has never supported running multiple versions on the same PC.

I see another post that states a trainer has multiple versions of Office on their computer. I always heard that you must uninstall older versions before installing a newer version. Am i misoinformed? I would like to install 2010 on my XP, but do not want to lose the data on 2003.

Answer:Multiple versions of Office

Why would you think you'd lose any data? Each new version of Office is backward compatible.

Greetings people!

I'd appreciate some advice from you about running multiple versions of office on the same machine.

I'd like to be able to run Office 97, 2000 and XP on the same machine and would like to know whether anyone else has managed to do this succesfully.

In the past I have installed more than one at a time, but have always encountered enough difficulties for it to become impractical.

Is there a simple way around this using profiles (I'm using Windows XP Pro) or a more elaborate way using PArtition Magic?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Gurnerworld.

Is it possible to run 2 versions of office on the same computer? eg 2000 pro and xp

Answer:Running 2 versions of office

Although you can only run 1 version (the most recent) of Outlook at any given time. Installing 2kPro first then 2002 (XP) edition should give you these options. Is there any partitcular reason why, as, having used both myself, there is no reason to keep 2000 running? Unlike 97/2000 dual system whereby databases created in Access 2000 would not open in 97 unless converted, 2000 & 2002 versions are backwards compatible as far as I've used them (I have 2002 at home and 2000 on laptop and work PC's).BA

I am planning to have several versions of office (97, 2000, 2003) on one pc. I want them each to function in their own right. IE I don't want a later version of office to overwrite an earlier version on the hard disk. I guess I need to load the XP OS into several partitions and load the relevant Office version into each partition "zone". On start-up I would choose the partion and thus be able to go to the correct version. Am I right, or am I making this too complicated?Presumably, loading one version of XP several times on a single pc is within the terms of a single XP licence?Would be most grateful for any advice.

What is the point of having several different versions of Office on one PC?

Hi guys
I've just upgraded to the x64 Windows 7 for the first time & now having the fun (!) of figuring out what to do with some of my x32 programs specifically Office 2010.

Is there a way to enable it to see or use the various settings files from the x32 version (such as the .pst/s,srs files etc)? I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be given how most people would desire to be able to access email from the previous version.

I don't want to overwrite too many things before knowing for sure.

Thanks.

Answer:Office 2010 x64 v x 32 bit versions

Not sure I follow the question, but as far as I know, Microsoft recommends the 32-bit version of Office 2010 due to greater compatibility with add-ins----regardless of whether you are using 32-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 7.

Guys,

Do to hardware compatability issues, we will be looking at getting a new computer within 6 months. I still have Office 97. Will that run on Windows XP? I just use Office for Word, more than anything else and to me word processing is word processing. Do you get anything major in newer additions of Office that are worth spending the extra money?

Elder daughter has managed to get 3 different versions of Office 2010 on her HP Windows 7 laptop - namely Student & Teacher edition, Office Starter 2010 edition and Word Starter 2010 edition.Daughter is a Primary school teacher and the laptop is borrowed from her school. She tells me that the school's head of IT (who is, apparently, an incompetent idiot) loaded the Student & Teacher edition. If I simply un-install the Office Starter and Word Starter will the Student & Teacher edition still run OK?

Answer:Office 2010 - several versions

There are so many common files to these three systems that it is unlkely that one would survive the removal of the others. It would be best to remove all three and then install the one you want.

Hello everyone! I noticed on eBay that there are many "OEM" (original equipment manufacturer) versions of Microsoft Office 2003 available. Has anyone had experience purchasing these? Many of the listings say that they include a "Miscellaneous Piece Of Computer Hardware." Would it be advisable to purchase these OEM Offices, or would they not work on my PC because my PC does not have the necessary hardware components for installation?

Thanks!

Alex

Hi everybody,

I have a bit of a dilemma at the moment, I have upgraded to Office 2003 on my PC running Win XP however because it is the Academic Version it doesn't come with Frontpage. I do have a copy of 2000 with Frontpage and I would like to know if i can install a second Office version on the PC with Office 2003.
Basically I would only select to install Frontpage and nothing else. Will this cause any conflicts? I dont want to try this if it is going to cause major hassles.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All. I have just upgraded my pc to windows 7 and when I installed my office 97 it all worked for a while and then I started getting a message that it was not a valid copy. I have the original case with the key code and it has worked fine from windows 98 through windows XP. So what is up?

I really do not need to go out and buy the latest version as I only use it for writing letters. Is this a ploy to get me to chuck some more money at Microsoft?

Has this happened to anyone else.?.

Doug

Share your thoughts on what you would like to see in future editions of MS Office.

I would like new templates that are fresh and have not been seen in previous versions of office.

A improved saving of html files instead of throwing so much extra bleep into it.

I run a small business and am about to upgrade to six new machines running Windows 7 and MS Office.

I have one retail box of Office Standard 2007 and two of Office Small Business 2007. I "think" I can install each on up to three machines but even two each is enough. I just need Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I've been advised that there's just no compelling reason to move into Office 2013 at this time, and I want to just install those 2007 versions on the machines.

However, we use Exchange with a hosting provider, and we use Outlook local clients. So far, it's been Exchange 2007 at the server and Outlook 2007 on the local machines.

The Exchange host is about to migrate us server-side to Exchange 2010. They will provide Outlook 2010 to use for each machine at no charge (or so I understand).

I've been advised that it's fine to run Outlook 2007 locally while having Exchange 2010 server-side, but I feel that maximum compatibility would be nice and that seems obviously best achieved by having Outlook 2010 running on the local machines.

Assuming all those assumptions are valid (and I'm certainly open to any helpful comments on that), my question is whether I'm inviting any possible issues if my local machines are running Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 (from my existing Office products) while also running Outlook 2010 (from the free version the Exchange hosting provider will be giving us).

Thanks!
