I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

Hi, is there any way of backing up all email accounts in Outlook 2013 (including username+password) and restoring them in Outlook 2016 without having to manually recreate the accounts? Thanks

Since upgrading my main desktop to Windows 10, I began having trouble with my Office 2013 installation. I would get the "swirling circle" and the "application has stopped responding" error messages very frequently. I was able to buy the Office 2016 suite for $10 through my employer (Microsoft HUP) and since upgrading the application, I have not seen the error. Of course, I've only had Office 2016 on my PC for one day, so I'll keep checking to see if the problem returns. Has anyone else had issues with Office 2013 and Win10? Thanks!

In fact Office is working nicely for me in Windows 10. I had PCs with Office 2007 and even with the old Office 2003 and I have not yet had complaints about crashes.

Microsoft offers a FixIt tool, which allows you to do a clean uninstall of the Office 2013 files so that you can afterwards create a clean Office installation again. As an additional ressort, there even is a description of how to manually uninstall Office 2013. I did not have to test it, but that might have helped you as well.

I hate reinstalling Office 2013 if the 2016 version is not good enough.

No.

While possible it is not recommended to install multiple versions of Office on the same computer. But they both must be the same bits. The only way this could be done is to install one on a virtual machine.

No.

I know that I have asked this elsewhere before, but I use Office 2013 on a Windows 7 machine at work and when it hangs up/freezes, it applies an aeroglass frame. See picture. Is there a way to implement this when it is working normally (on any version of Windows, but Office 2013/2016)? Thanks.

Hi, if it uses a standard frame, then Aeroglass (free + watermark or 2 or 3 euros donation for a couple of reusable licences gets you nice borders for all but programs which use borderless windows (e.g. a lot of multimedia progs).

Having some compatibility issues with 2016 and our exchange server. I need to downgrade back to 2013 but can't find the link anywhere on Office 365 site. Anyone know where or how I can downgrade?

It seems that search feature in Outlook 2013 32 bit ceases after installing Office 2016.
Would appreciate any tip on a possible workaround to this.

Hello. I recently did a deep clean on my computer, definitely too deep now that I look back on it. In windows update, it shows 7 updates called, "Update for Microsoft Office 2013 64-Bit Edition." that always fails. I don't have Office 2013, I have Office 2016 and would really like these to go away (they're probably harmless but they disturb me mentally). I know that I can right-click on the update and click "Hide" but that only hides it for a short amount of time before it comes back (I think after restart).

I tried to make an an effort to get those updates go away by updating manually. This is what the error says: "An internal error has occurred: (-2147024786 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 15\MSIPC\MSIPCEvents.man ). Contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, seePSS10R.CHM".

Now, rather than trying to get them to go away by installing them. I'm looking for help on a solution that would make them go away by possibly removing a file or registry key, or something on my computer like that.

Also, it's too late for me to do a system restore. Any help would be appreciated.

So, can I install only Outlook 2013 (and BCM) alongside Office 2016, without removing/breaking either? Does anyone else have this setup working without issues?

I recently install a new farm with ADFS 2016 and federated my Office 365 domain with the new farm. Previously I was usig ADFS 2012 R2. 

Now after the "migration" to ADFS 2016 users are not able to sign in to any Office 2013 product. I mean when trying to add my Office 365 account to Word, Excel, Onenote, etc. I get the error "We are unable to connect right now. Please check your
network and try again later" The network is fine as users are able to log on to Office 365 using the web browser. 

The error is happening only on windows 7 with Office 2013 SP1. I updated Office 2013 to last version and still no luck. Is there any compatibility problem with Windows 7 and ADFS 2016? It works fine on Windows 10 and windows 8 even using  Office 2013 SP1
version with no further updates.

I have Office 2013 on my desktop PC (standalone install not office 365)
I have Office 2016 available via work and want to install it to have the latest shiny and all that

My main issue is being able to preserve all the accounts and settings in Outlook
Will an over the top install preserve these or will I lose them all?

In the past I recall I could export a registry key of the profile, edit a number fro 12 to 15 (for office 2013) and then import this key - do I have to do the same but change the version number to 16 instead?

I've checked the archives but can;t find a relevant thread.

I currently have Office 2010 Pro on my laptop and am going to be purchasing MS Project. But am unsure which version is the safe bet.

Can I install Project 2013 on a laptop running Office 2010 or is that going to be a problem and I should stick with Project 2010?

I don't need the latest and greatest version of Project so for my functional needs Project 2010 will be fine, but I figured if I am going to buy it might be best to get the latest version?

Note: I did find something on another forum about Project 2013 using Sharepoint 2013 and that conflicts over-writes some sharepoint 2010 executables thereby causing issues with 2010 suite ... but I don't have Sharepoint on my laptop so doubt this is an issue in my situation.

Anyways whats the safest bet, I really don't want to deal with conflicts or software issues. Stick with Project 2010?

Answer:Office 2010 Pro compatible with Project 2013

Office 2010 is the first to be available as either 32-bit or 64-bit. I had to uninstall Office FrontPage 2003 [32-bit] before I could install the 64-bit version of Office 2010. I would imagine the same would hold true for all Office applications.

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7

 I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.

Hi, first 2013. Suggest you install Ultrasearch (free), let it index (quick), then search for items related to Office 2013 and see what's left.
(This is a search tool you will want to keep).

Also try downloading Revo uninstaller, run it, and see if Office 2013 shows up.
If the above search finds any remaining folders with exe files, you can use Revo's Forced uninstall to remove them ad related files and registry entries.

My guess is you've still got shortcuts related to those office programs in one or other of your start menu folders. If so, the search should find them.

We currently use Office 2007 and Office 2010 on our about 20 workstations. I'm looking to move to MS office 365 for hosted exchange. I found out that as of the first of this year, Microsoft no longer support Outlook 2007 or 2010 for hosted exchange. It seems to be working just fine so far at another site I'm involved with. The issue is that if you ever contact support, they will blame the version of Outlook you're on. So, I'm looking at options for upgrading.

Do you guys that are on office 365 for email using the premium version that includes the office subscription or buy Office 2016?

For the most part, we just need outlook, word and excel. We do have 6 people that will need powerpoint also.

Just looking for a recommendation from you guys on what makes the most sense.

I have installed and uninstalled Office 2016 a lot of times, but the icons are not displayed in Start > All apps or All programs
However I can find the icons in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Where is the problem?

They are being displayed in my case. I really have no idea why its not happening in your case, in spite of your reinstalling Office several times. And you say you are seeing them in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs!
Maybe some one else here has some ideas ....

Is there any setting where I can set the MINIMIZED ribbon to default. It's no real pain to press CTRL+F1 but I'd rather have the apps start with the minimized ribbon.

Hello everyone, Sorry if this is a repost or hasn't been answered.  Did a quick search and couldn't find info. I am having some issues with my Yoga and want to refresh the PC to see if that fixes my issues.  However, my conern is that with a refresh I will lose my apps and programs, including Office 2013.  Since my Yoga 2 Pro didn't come with any install cds for Office because it was pre-installed, how will I get this program and other Lenovo programs back following the refresh? Thanks!

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro C50-A PSCG7A-01X01V. I installed Windows 8.1 and then installed Office 2013. Unfortunately when I start one of the Office 2013 apps it immediately crashes with an error message eg: "Microsoft Word has stopped working". I have tried starting the applications in safe mode (eg excel /safe) however the same error occurs. Is anyone able to assist with this problem?

One of my systems (out of four) that all have recently ( about 3 weeks back) been completely reloaded for Office 365 including a full run of the MS uninstaller app first, now has a feature that many people have asked for but MS has yet to restore. On this one system spellcheck works in a way I have never seen and I would LOVE to get the same functionality onto the other systems if possible.

In our office, ONE other person out of 30 also seems to have lucked out and gotten the same setup but no one else has.
This is Office 365 Business installing the 2016 App package. All users have the same option which is Office Insider Slow.
Ver. 1610 build 7466.2023. The spellcheck feature I am seeing like this is in the desktop software not the Cloud version.

On the one "special" copy Spellcheck has become a much More useful and handy option. Any misspelled word is underlined in the usual red squiggly line but after that, right clicking it brings up many new options to correct.

It has the usual suggested correct spellings - but - now each of them is accompanied by a short dictionary-like definition of the word when spelled that way. PLUS they each have another black arrow that if clicked offers to read the word aloud and more important offers to make that spelling of the word into an Auto-correct option.. Right There!. No need to jump through all the usual hoops to get it added.

One of my users is having problems with EMET 5.1 shutting-down Excel, Outlook, Word, Firefox (43.04), Acrobat Reader (11.0.14) and Chrome (48.0.2564.97). The user gets "EMET detected Caller mitigation and will close the application" just before
shutdown. The system is running 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise. The user has disabled the Caller check for the affected apps numerous times but the checks become active again after about an hour. I logged into the user's system as an administrator, disabled the
Caller checks and again they become active after about an hour. I also attempted to disable the Caller checks in the registry by
changing the Caller value from 1 to 0 for the various applications in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EMET\_settings_\. These changes also revert back to active Caller checks. I suspect
that the Caller checks are being reactivated by a GPO. 
Here is the most recent Excel shutdown and application crash noted in the event viewer. The user had just opened Excel and clicked "File", "Open" and Excel was then shutdown by EMET. Is there any way to stop EMET from continuously doing
this?

Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "[email protected]" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "[email protected]". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.
Please advise,

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

The issue is specific to Office 2016 on Win 10 (Office 2016 on Win 7, no problem, Office 2010 on Win 10, no problem). Certain documents (reported by a user who receives documents with Japanese text, haven't seen it happen with others) have the layout messed up, a 2 page Word doc gets spread over 4 pages, and I've been given some sample powerpoint slides which have text overflowing the end of the slide.

Word doc was originally in Legacy 2003 format, I did manage to make this particular document display correctly by saving it in .docx format, then enabling compatibility changes via vba, setting to 2010 compatibility and enabling "Use printer metrics to lay out document" based on what I read here: BUG!! The other sample file I received was a .pptx - haven't been able to find corresponding compatibility options in Powerpoint.

Wouldn't be quite so annoying if they didn't both display perfectly in Windows 7.

Turns out it was some sort of font substitution issue. I noticed the fonts in Word/Powerpoint weren't present in the Windows font dir. Copied them over from another Win 7 machine, suddenly everything looks fine.

Not sure why Office 2010 did a better job of it than 2016, I couldn't really pick if there was a difference in the Japanese characters before and after the font, only that the page layout was stuffed...

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "[email protected]" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "[email protected]". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

We have an upgrade on our computer units here in the company, my problem is when users save their 2007 excel files an error pops up, Errors were detected while saving "File Name". Microsoft maybe able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

By the way, the files were save on the file server and users access them through single roaming profile that we created with full access on their folders.

Hello,

A charity is considering upgrading its workstations to Office 2013 from Office 2007.
They have lots of files in the .docx, .xlsx, .xlsm, and .xltm formats that they would need to access on a daily basis.

- Would the upgrade cause compatability problems with working with files created under these above formats?

What you'd do to get the upgrade price I don't know but Office 2013 IS available for download. Try phoning / emailing -- actually a better option these days is to use a FAX believe it or not for this type of question. Emails tend to get lost as people have 100'000's to deal with, phone calls are diabolical --endless menu systems, loads of waiting and people on the other side of the planet who are incredibly difficult to understand.

The lowly fax machine when it chatters into life usually gets INSTANT attention these days . !!

Hi, hope someone can help me..

We have installed Office 2013 (64bit) on 13workstations, but found out that clients require Office 2010 (32bit) for some programs that are linked.

We removed the Office 2013 (64bit) and installed Office 2010 (32bit).

Everything looks okay up until we try to do Office 2010 repair process.
We are getting the attached error screen..

I tried Wiindows Installer Cleanup utility but i couldnt find any traces of Office 2013.

durning the install my nvidia drivers kept stopped responding. this problem stopped after office 2013 was installed and updated.

and later I found out my vmware installation was messed up and missing files. was working before.

what the heck happpend, I dont know..........office 2010 decided to take revenge? if it was going out . it was taking everyone out with it. lol

Are you running Windows in your VMWare installation or is your WMWare installation on your Windows machine?

It sounds like (drivers aside) there were some shared filed that may have been wiped that VMWare was using that belonged to Office 2010.

Office Version: Professional Plus 2013

Every office application I open seems to have a classic unthemed title bar and not maximise correctly. When opening an office application a number of things happen:
The application opens behind any open windows
The application when maximised appears to be open full screen with in an invisible frame
Drop down lists within the application instantly close when clicked on

Here are few images showing what I mean:





Steps taken to try to rectify the problem:Reinstalled Office after having used Revo Uninstaller to remove any left over traces
Rolled back to a time I don't believe the problem existed, thought this may have existed from the start but never realised due to lack of use
Reinstalled Graphics Card drivers
Turned off any OS resizing options
Tried changing the OS theme back to default
Tried changing the screen resolution

I should also mention that this only affects office applications and no other applications seem to have any issues like this.

I know I can get around the issue of it being maximised, as can be seen from the screenshot. The issues with dropdown boxes etc is a pain, any help you guys can give would be appreciated

Have you tried an Office repair. This is how to do it with Windows 7, Open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2013 & Right Click on it & select Change & this will show a couple of Repair options to try. Windows 8 might be different as I haven't tried it.

Hi there

I think this comment is allowed - there is an NDA but I think this is OK. The latest update installs OFFICE 2016 just fine and works OK. Office 2010 is left untouched so you can run BOTH concurrently.

OUTLOOK 2016 though uses the same data file as Outlook 2010 so SEND from outlook 2010 hoses up with "Cant access Outlook data file".

However once you've sent the email with Outlook 2016 you can see it in the SENT folder of both Outlook 2010 and 2016 so using Outlook 2016 during the preview won't cause carnage to your existing office outlook.

So far very impressed -- FORGET OFFICE 2013 completely. 2016 is STREETS better and you can get rid of that hideous over white theme too. NDA so can't post image.

Note I'm using x-64 for both Office 2010 and 2016.

If you want to try the Links were open this morning -- this could have been an error because they might close again soon.
So far so good -- note some people get activation message unless they have Office 365 subscription --I don't have and didn't seem to get that message.

Am using Windows 10 x-64 Enterprise as the OS I'm testing this on --running on a REAL machine, build 9926.

If you wish to carry out a a complete repair of your Office 2016 or Office 365 installation on your Windows 10 PC, you can choose to undertake an Online Repair.
Quick Repair runs faster but only detects and replaces corrupted files. Online Repair takes longer, but does an uninstall and a complete repair.

On my husbands computer we are running Office pro 2010 on Windows 7.I would like to upgrade it to Office pro 2013. But in Outlook 2010 he has like 40 folders with subfolders full of emails. When i upgrade will Outlook 2013 grab all the settings, folders, emails and put them in correctly? I know office 2013 does not go onto of office 2010 because i did it on my own computer but i do not use outlook on mine, i use WLM so i do not remember what it did for outlook because i do not remember if i put an account in there after i installed it or not. I did mine months ago, call it a senior moment.

Does anyone here using Office 2013, did it as an upgrade and found all their settings, folders, emails, calendar and everything else get transferred into outlook 2013 correctly?

I do have a .pst backup just in case but sometimes when putting this back it messes up everything and i do not want to spend hours fixing it nor a divorce (lol) over this.

I just installed a copy of Office 2013 on a Pc (actually Win7) that already had Office 2010 on it. I was having problems getting an Exchange logon working and for some reason, upgrading to 2013 fixed the problem. I am working with 32-bit in both cases.

The copy of Office 2013 is working great. It noted there was a copy of 2010 there and copied all the information from the 2010, essentially doing an upgrade.

Now I'd like to remove the copy of 2010 and I'm wondering if that will destroy 2013 as well, somehow. The only strange thing I noted is I initially went into Mail-32 in the control panel to add the exchange logon and it added it to Outlook 2010 (sure, now it works on 2010...grrrh!), so I had to go into Outlook 2010 and remove the exchange account and then add the exchange account inside of Outlook 2013, which worked just fine.

So, I'm thinking if I uninstall Office 2010, then mail-32 will auto point to the 2013 version of Outlook. And I'd just like to get the 2010 version off anyway. But not if it's going to be a problem for Office 2013.

I've looked around the Internet and didn't find anything pointing directly at this situation. If leaving 2010 out there is the simplest solution, I'm OK with that. Thanks ahead of time.

I have been in the situation where I bought a new pc that had a trial version of MS Office 2010 already installed. I installed a full version of MS Office 2007 and uninstalled the MS 2010 trial version later with no problems.

This was a case where I had MS Office 2007 installed on my work computer and my company had a site license that allowed you to also install a copy at home. That's why I choose the 2007 version over the 2010 version.

I'm trying to upgrade from Office 2010 to Office Pro Plus 2013 trial which I downloaded from Technet. Win 8

Apparently I get to the end of installation and then it all rolls back with the following error:

MS encountered an error during setup

Setup failed rolling back changes.

I've tried running as administrator but the issue persists.

Hi there

will office 2016 be available as a stand alone (non subscription) product for non corporate users. If I follow my link to Buy Now from the trial preview it only offers me Office 365 or Office 2013.

I'm NOT interested in subscription software or Office 2013.

I suppose then back to Office 2010 !!!!. - I'll see if Office 2016 appears within the next few days --still have 70 days left on the trial preview.

I bought my Office 365 for cheap in college. It is registered to me under a college email that I no longer can access.
(this is a problem because I used that account to sign up for Bing Ads and the customer support is always messing with me to prove it is my account, hard to do when you cannot access the old email, it is a pain in the rear)
Anyway, if I buy 365 again and register it under a new email, will I lose access to all the storage I have in my school account, or will that remain. Can the accounts be synced? (the on-screen prompts imply they can be synced, but I don't trust MS enough to not verify that this is true)

I assume if I just renew it under the now-defunct email address nothing will change. Except I will be out $69 for a 1 year subscription.

What if I just buy Office 2016 for $71 and keep it for several years.

Is there a difference for my purposes? I use MS Word, Excel and Outlook daily.
But I use them at the novice to lower average level user level.

Do you think Office 2016, that will last for several years and is cheaper, will be OK?

I use Outlook to access various emails and I do some very simple spread sheet manipulations with Excel.

To be honest, if it weren't for Outlook I would probably not buy it at all. I like the email client. Otherwise Open Office (I think it is called) is more than sufficient I would think.

Hello,

I have uninstalled office 2010 few days ago and did a clean installation of office 2013.
But windows update is showing updates for both office 2010 and office 2013.

I have uninstalled office 2010 using Revo uninstaller so there are no traces
Am I missing something.

Why on earth do people insist on using these 3rd party uninstaller apps for BOG STANDARD Microsoft applications --Ms OFFICE is one of the most used pieces of software on earth so installing / uninstalling it should be a breeze via STANDARD uninstall method.

Had you simply uninstalled via control panel then the entire problem would not exist.

Your 3rd party uninstaller obviously hasn't done its job properly as there is still some indication on your machine that Microsoft Update thinks you still have Office 2010 installed.

IMO 3rd party apps are better left for NON OS type applications - things like installing / uninstalling / updating software should be left to the OS itself. Very few 3rd party apps IMO should be allowed to interfere with the internal functions of the OS itself -- even AV software - but that's another issue.

My solution here would be to either restore your syste to a time before you installed the "Uninstaller" app or re-install a clean copy of windows, re-install the version of office you want and apply the updates.

Note -- when Ms updates programs it might make all sorts of registry changes "on the fly" and it's impossible for a 3rd party uninstaller to be able to handle or even find all these changes.

I bought a new pc a few months ago and installed Office 2013 on it that I had used on my old one
No problem
But on the new pc I kept getting pop ups to activate Office 2016 which was on the new pc.
It will let me open old files but now says activate before using
Am unable to create ant new word docs excel files etc.
How do I just defer to 2013 please?
Do I uninstall 2016 will that force it to use 2013?

Clean installing Windows 10 and have both Office 2010 and Office 2013 available and your thoughts on which should I use. I have been running Office 2010 on my systems and mainly basic use of Word and Excel. Also x86 or x64?

Can't say much to features but I don't like the flat washed-out look of 2013. Approx 60-70% of my clients that installed 2013 went back to 07 or 10. The others like 2013. Did notice an issue with 2013 Outlook when it was first released - IMAP accounts constantly syncing and going through bandwidth like crazy on a few accounts. Would hope that bug has been fixed by now though.

Your 2010 files should work fine with 2013.

No don't decline these updates.
Office 2013 updates in the background & does not show up in the usual Windows Updates section. I am using Office 2013 Pro & I have it set for installing updates automatically.
It would be best just to let any updates that are required to be installed. Often certain updates are incorporated to cover a few versions of Office as they earlier ones need it so they incorporate it to cover all the applicable versions, which may also include later versions.
Therefore just leave it alone as fiddling with updates often causes trouble. Also it is just a whole lot of unnecessary work for you.

Hello: I brought my MS Office to my new computer a few months ago. That version was/is 2010 on a windows XP. I now have the 2013 version of MicroSoft Office it is however the 64 bit version on a machine running windows 7 Home Premium.

I am concerned about losing my data over the transition.

I received the message that it is not possible to instal the 64 bit version until the 32 bit version is removed.

I would be very grateful if someone would provide guidance on the correct order and steps to accomplish this change over. The Data is backed up. I would not like to lose the Data in the various programs.

Following on from helping a neighbour to decide as to the purchase of a new PC, I looked at my computer needs/usage and have decided to have a complete clear out of current PCs and rethink as to what I really use. To that end I would pose :
1) SSD drive - where it is indicated that they are far faster than SATA are there any drawbacks apart from the price and what would be considered a minimum size? I currently have only 89GB for all of my existing programmes.
2) Choosing a new Microsoft Office package, I currently use Word, Excel, Outlook and Access. There are seemingly two options:
Office for Business although does not include Access - for £219
or
Office 365 which does include Access for an annual subscription of £59.99.
It would seem that you take on the subscription and if you decide to cancel the annual subscription then you are required to remove the programme from your PC.
From a previous posting it seems that others use Outlook for all of their contacts, so I could consider using Outlook for that purpose and forget Access.
Any thoughts on any of the above?

compumac: only that, classically, you'd configure your SSD to host your operating system and programs, and keep your data on a 'regular' drive. That way, you can have a relatively small - and inexpensive - SSD. It's only really the operating system and programs that benefit from the much faster access an SSD provides.

My Onedrive app on Ipad Mini opens the Office files in an Excel or Word version which is more advanced than the one I have on my Lumia 920 so Office on Lumia can not open them. How do you expect WP8.1 to be a success when Office functionality is so low and even lower than DocToGo and when are you going to update?

Answer:Why is Office for WP8 obsolete? It is not compatible with the Office I bought for Mac and Ipad.

I'm not quite sure why you are unable to open your word or excel files on your 920. I use the full version of office which is connected to SharePoint and can open my word or excel files without any trouble on my L1020.
Is there any chance your ipad files are in a mac compatible file format?

All of these three apps (Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, and Open Office) freeze immediately after opening any file such as .docx, .doc, etc through them.
The problems with all the three apps started at the same time. I have reinstalled the apps several times, but that didn't solve anything.
There is no antivirus except Windows 10' Defender.
Please help. I am going crazy here.

Does the same happen if you try this in Safe Mode?

Have you changed your page file settings from default?

Do you have a system restore point or disk images (which we strongly and repeatedly recommend using) you can use to return to a point before this problem started?

I've been using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013, 15.0.4631.1004 for the last six months, with no real problems.

Specifically, while using Excel 2013; I can press F1 or click the ? icon, and use the online Help... Until now



I'm working on something in Excel, I try to access Help, and get



This condition then persists until I reboot the computer; the same/similar message appears for the other Office components.

Please note: other programs do not have any problem connecting to the Internet. I'm experiencing the problem even as I type this in IE. Office is the only one having trouble with connecting... I have some URLs in a spreadsheet, and they still work fine
My computer has a wired connection to my modem-router on a simple home network. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes and Microsoft Firewall. All Windows Updates have been installed. Turning off the firewall does not help.

A few weeks ago I had a problem with a malicious toolbar. Malwarbytes quarantined a number of files having to do with Linkey, and MySearchDial, and the problem seemed to be solved.

Any help with Help would be appreciated...

Have you tried an Office repair. To do that open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2013, Right Click on it & select Change. This will open a panel with a couple of repair options to try.

OK I am curious. I am trying to understand the difference between these two: Office 2013 is just an updated version from office 2011 and its predecessor, and Office 365 is like Google docs, except that its a paid subscription. I don't see any logic to why I want to pay annually where I can just do Google docs, or just use a regular office application.

Anyone know if it's possible to have Office 2010 (32 bit) and Office 2013 (64 bit) running on the same computer. (Windows 8 Enterprise 64 bit).

This link partially answers the question but doesn't say if you can mix 32 and 64 bit versions.
I have to keep EXCEL 32 bit as I have some addin's that don't work on the 64 bit version (EXCEL 2010).

I HATE outlook 2013 so the restriction on Outlook is fine by me. Mixing the 32 and 64 bit versions is my main concern here.

(Note you have to have office 2010 already installed to enable the "Side by Side" feature apparently -- not tried it yet).

Please posters who have actually TRIED this combination (on ANY version of 64 bit Windows 8). One often get posts like "It *should be possible*, or I don't THINK it will work. I don't actually like office 2013 -- I intend for all sorts of reasons sticking with office 2010 but there will be times when I have to run office 2013 and I really don't want to have to set up a separate Virtual machine just for that - or another Windows to Go system.

I found another on Technet, but like a dummy I left the page, and, for some reason, couldn't find the reference again. It said 64 and 32 bit versions cannot be installed on the same machine.

Hi, I've been trying to use office mobile on my Surface Pro 3, but after all w10 updates, I can't login to my office 365 website, therefore I can't use office mobile apps or add a student account in settings. While on edge browser I can close the tab and open it again so it logs in, in the settings/office mobile window I can't do that, so it is impossible to use. Does anyone know a solution for this? I mean, Microsoft Edge not being able to log in to the office 365 account is kind of a deal breaker. This also happens on my other two laptops after all the recent updates. I've taken a screenshot of the problem below. Thanks!

I have a new pc. Dell Inspiron 3650

64-Bit Op. Sys. x64 based processor
I installed the office pro plus 2016 with a key from seller.
It installed fine on 12 7 16 then today 12 8 16 none of the office programs will open.
The home and Student 2016 also does the same thing. I installed the pro and the home and student does the same thing.
The pc came with Win10 home I purchased from Dell Win10 pro. I called Dell support and they helped me to install pro from the usb.
One thing I never activated the home and student before downloading the purchased office pro. the office pro key worked so I didn't think I needed it.
After all the trouble with the pro I uninstalled pro and tried to use the home and student. the product key worked on it also. but the same thing happens
I get the error box
Microsoft Word has stopped working
windows is checking for a solution to the problem
then it changes to
Microsoft Word has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
needless to say I have heard nothing.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!

Unless you have an ACTIVE Internet connection (or other Network Mail Server connection such as Exchange) you will NOT be able to set up OUTLOOK 2013.

Outlook 2013 requires (and there is no option unlike in Outlook 2010 to disable it by unchecking a box) a TEST email to be sent and working before your account(s) can be configured-- Once it's done you don't have to be online but if you need to set up several accounts and you don't have a working internet connection -- Tough luck.

Why on earth did Ms do this --it's not necessary and it is a Hassle for some people who are on the road, have purchased Office 2013 and want to set it up instead of having to wait until they get home.

Also a hassle if they want to prepare company laptop computers with email parameters in advance of the new Exchange email servers being rolled out to the users.

Even if your work policy has mechanisms where the USER can configure the email connections themselves they won't be able to set it up until the Servers are actually in place so you can't set the accounts up in advance.

The box I've shown here is from Outlook 2010. In Outlook 2013 the option is filled in and greyed out so you can't change it.

BTW I prefer and use Office 2010 myself but was trying to help a colleague to set up Office 2013.

Of course you can uncheck the Test email box. It has been so in all Outlook versions, is still so in Outlook 2013.

The option is grayed out exactly as long as the NEXT button is grayed out i.e. as long as they could not be used due missing credentials, until the setup has all relevant information for an email account to work (email address, incoming and outgoing servers, username and password). When you have filled the needed credentials, both the Test box and NEXT button become visible and can be clicked / selected.

Although I could well understand that setting up an email account, which in any case needs a working connection, would require an existing connection, this is not the case with Outlook 2013. You can set your email accounts up while sitting in a pub in Brussels watching Premier League Football without Internet connection if you want to .

I'm setting up the network for a relatively small office (approx. 1900 sq. feet, 12 users). The owner wants everything wireless and the most heavy traffic will be coming from VOIP softphones. Obviously we'll need good throughput and the owner wants to go high-end so I'm looking at Meraki equipment. They're recommending the MR24 access point which looks pretty solid...but they're also suggesting the MX60 firewall. The MX60 itself isn't all that expensive...but when you add on the subscription license it's a decent chunk of change.

Am I crazy for thinking this enterprise level firewall may be a little bit of overkill? Would it be a terrible mistake to substitute with a cheaper ZyXel or Cisco (or other) model, or even just a good router with a built-in firewall? Obviously security is important, but this small company doesn't necessarily deal in ultra-sensitive information.

Also I've heard some good things about Ubiquity APs as a lower cost alternative to Meraki. I don't see them claiming to offer the 900 Mbps radio rate that the Meraki MR24 has, but the prices are so much lower and the feedback seems very positive. Anyone worked with either Meraki or Ubiquity before? Recommendations?

There are quite a few considerations when you deploy wireless in an office environment. This is why site surveys are typically required or some sort of RF predictive/planning tool. In office environments, you might run into issues with the actual construction of the building such as any concrete/cinder block walls, metal studs, etc, etc. Also in business environments, you're probably competing with other businesses running their own wireless networks. Layer in the requirement to run VoIP wirelessly, you have some challenging requirements.

Use of SOHO wireless devices should be immediately crossed off your list. With regards to your possible candidates, be aware that Meraki was acquired by Cisco. So if you're having issues with how they handle licensing, you'll be in for a shock when they get assimulated. Ubiquity is a unique proposition but based on some information I've seen on how the internals are in their devices, I'm not that impressed with the quality.

An option to consider is Aruba's (Dell PowerConnect W--OEM'd from Aruba) Instant APs. These APs provide many of the functionality of a full wireless controller solution without the cost. The first IAP set up on the network becomes the virtual controller for the entire network. Each subsequent IAP you add just joins the network and is managed by this virtual controller. As these are two seperate applications, yes you can install office 2013 on the same machine as 2010 as a side by side installation, it will appear as a seperate entry within Programs and Features, so yes you can uninstall it at a later date.

Hi there

Whoever designed the base colors for Office 2013 must have been totally STONE DEAF and COLOR BLIND at the same time. I can't believe that comments weren't made before this stuff was allowed out of the door.

There's almost no possibilities to customize the backgrounds or colors and on a large monitor the base white looks really HIDEOUS -- you need a good pair of Sunglasses while working with it.

The only other choice is some type of Grey (shown in screenshot) which looks very similar to "The Fruit Company's Window colour scheme. Still looks hideous and that Blue !!!!!.

Outlook also displays the unread message titles in the most sickly blue (can't seem to change it) I've ever seen.

Before I remove this POS from my computer is there anyway to De-Uglify or customize like I had in Office 2010 with the Black background.

I don't like it opening with a prompt screen before I get the base screen (often needs another TWO keyboard strokes !! -- example for EXCEL 2013 shown) -- I should be able to open it in a Window with the menus just like like Office 2010. It means I now have to make a load of extra keyboard strokes before I actually get a workbook screen to start getting my work done.

I don't want the sign in reminders either -- I don't intend to use Cloud services etc.
