More issues with Synaptics Mouse

Question: More issues with Synaptics Mouse

Can i just say this driver makes my head explode but unistalling it is literally 100x worse?
Ok so here is the issue at start. I got a new lenovo laptop after my old one kicked the bucket and
the laptop alone is beautiful. Works great , great graphics , yeah. The biggest issue for me though is
the mouse. I play games and the previous issue was that the mouse has a serious tap2click issue
going on with it. It would literally click everything and this caused me to screw up alot in games so
i installed Synaptics mouse driver (Which according to Lenovo support,i'm supposed to have anyways)
to disable that annoying tap2click and it worked but ofc a new problem was born. Now i couldn't use
my mouse and keyboard at the same time. Again i game so this was a game-breaking issue for me.
After a few days i was able to resolve this issue but now i have ANOTHER issue. Now it's getting
very hard for me to right click. I have to tap it several times just to right click. This is getting really
stupid and i'm ready to just deal with the tap-happy mouse i had before because it seems this driver
is loaded with problems. Is there any way to fix this issue? To be clear , I can't right click properly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

dear all,is there a utility that i can download for my touch pad that would allow me to use the right side of the pad to scroll up and down. currently i cannot do that. its is invaluable when in office applications (and others) to hold CTRL and scroll for zooming in and out.thanks

Answer:synaptics mouse pad on my laptop

If you cannot do it now, then you cannot do it. I assume that you have the latest driver and that you have examined its settings. You don't state what Synaptics model you use.

Somehow I overwrote my Synaptics mouse driver with a an Alps driver,  now my mouse buttons don't workmost of the time. My external mouse works all the time. How do get the Synaptics driver back? Thank you

Answer:R500 Synaptics Mouse Driver

Hi Ifrrated,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with Touchpad driver on your ThinkPad R500.

Go to control panel & program and feature option and search for Alps driver and Synaptics application and uninstall it and restart the system.
Go to device manager and expand mouse & other pointing device and uninstall it the entire adapter from there and restart the system and check if the issue still persists?

Hope this helps.

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 64 Home. This was new in November of 2011. After receiving it, I went through the tedious task of updating it via MS Update. I noticed after upgrading, the mouse started behaving very strangely where it would take off and shutter, not respond or be very slow to respond. Contacted Dell and they had me turn off a bunch of stuff on the Dell Touchpad app. This helped but did not fix the issue. I ended up re-installing the OS and made sure the drivers were installed in the correct order using the drivers disk supplied by Dell. Haves since installed the most current driver provided by Dell on their website 15.3.2.1 (April 2011). There continues to be issues with the mouse freezing from time to time. I looked at other threads and removed the Tap to Click feature. There is not much left on and the problem persists.

Dell wants $129 to re-install the OS and drivers, but I really don't think that will make a difference. I think there is some pretty whacky stuff with the Synaptics driver for this mousepad and looks like many other manufacturers.

Has anyone tried contacting Synaptics to see what they have to say about it?

Hi Ehickey,

My name is George from Dell Social Media Team. You can try this link to download the appropriate touchpad drivers for your computer Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
1. Put in the service tag or by selecting the model of your computer and then choose the operating system.
2. After choosing the right operating system drop down INPUT and then download the drivers for touchpad. Be cautious to choose the updated driver
3. Install downloaded driver and then restart your computer.

Hello everyone,

when I first upgraded to Windows 8, everything except the accelerometer was working perfectly. Now, weeks later all of a sudden my touchpad (synaptics) stopped working. I un- and reinstalled drivers, reset windows, reinstalled windows.. nothing worked. I checked in the driver settings, and it says it's working fine, but no input gets through.

Does anybody else experience similar issues? Or does anybody got an idea how I could solve this issue? My Acer Aspire 1825ptz might have a touchscreen as well, but using the desktop without a proper mouse is still a pain.
I uploaded my dxdiag, so you can have a look into my specs.

Thanks a lot for any ideas,

Cheers

Try uninstalling touchpad driver in Device Manager, get the Acer Driver from here and re-install it.
Download
If that doesn't work, try the driver from Synaptics.

Hello, I am having this problem with the Synaptics Mouse Pad on my Lenovo Y400. Once in a while, my mouse pad would somehow changes it driver, as seen in the image below.  The normal setting is:  The device switch occur randomly, sometimes use during usage or after sleep. There's no pattern of when it happens. When it does switch,  my mouse setting is changed and the new device/driver has no functionality except mouse movement and clicking. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer and it would switch back to the original setting. I tried uninstalling Synaptics totally and reinstall it through Lenovo driver site, but it still gave me the same problem. Disabling the V8.1 on PS/2 Port would totally disable my mouse when the problem occurs, and re-enabling it just turns it on, but doesn't fix anything. Thank you very much for helping!

Hello,

Lately I have noticed that my Synaptics pointing device keeps disappearing from the Notification area (Next to the clock)
And when this happens my mouse starts doing the whole tap to click!

So what i have to do is type mouse in the start menu and open it back up to start the synaptics mouse options.

I've also tried updating the driver, it just says I have the most recent driver already installed.

I don't know why it keeps turning off and disappearing from the notification area.

- Any information to stop this will be appreciated.

Answer:Synaptics Mouse keeps turning on tap to click

Hi Scott,

I've got the same model laptop (HP DV6) with exactly the same problem.

Cannot access the mouse properties without first doing a system reset but even after that's been done the tap function (which I hate) soon returns and I lose access to the properties again, thus preventing me from turning tap off from the control panel.

I also get the following message as the reason for when the mouse properties stops responding via control panel:

'Windows shell common dll not responding'

Henry.

No option to disable your Synaptics Touchpad when you plugin a USB mouse? The function is there but is disabled in the registry. Click the link and scroll down to message #9. Make the change, reboot and the auto disable works immediately if you have a USB mouse plugged in. Making the change in HKLM didn't work for me but HKCU did the trick. Navigate to the Synaptics settings page and the option to disable is now there. No credit due here, just passing it on to help others.

I just installed a new ssd drive and Win 8 on my Lenovo S405 laptop. Everything works but Windows will not recognize the Synaptics touch pad on my laptop as a Synaptics pad but only as a generic PS/2 mouse. So I can't use scroll and other functions.

I tried updating the driver through Windows and it just insists that the best driver is already loaded.

I tried installing the correct 64-bit Windows 8 driver for my laptop directly from Lenovo and I get a message that says "No appropriate driver to be installed."

I know this is a problem with Windows and not the touchpad itself because when I put my old hard drive back in ... the touchpad and Synaptics software work exactly as they are supposed to.

This is driving me crazy. Please advise.

i have a HP Pavilion tx 2510 and recently my mouse pad freezes over when i try to use the scroll. this happens immediately and it has become annoying for my work and gaming practices ... i have search for the driver and have not found anything

it is relatively old (as u should know) so the warranty is absolutely void

if anyone can help with this problem this would be much appreciated,

P.S. USB mouse works fine and touch screen works fine ... just the mouse pad after using scroll
Thank you very much for further support

Answer:synaptics scroll freezes mouse pad for minutes at a time

Any and all drivers should be available from HP.

And as it's old, it may not even be a driver issue, but faulty hardware.

I've just upgraded both my computers to Windows 8. On the laptop it's great, but on the HTPC my input device is showing it's limits.

I have a Logitech k400, which i like because it's a one piece keyboard with built in trackpad. the problem is that the trackpad is crap. it doesn't support any multitouch scrolling is done in the firmware and is... erratic and imprecise.
The closest equivalment would be an apple keyboard and trackpad hooked together by this thing: Twelve South MagicWand - Apple Store (Canada)
Problem is, I don't think the drivers will support advanced features like edge swiping, like synaptics trackpads will once the new driver rolls out.

Is it possible to use synaptics drivers? because that would solve my problems.

thanks.

Hey guys again!

When I set up a new operation system sometimes (vista, 7) I always installed the Synaptics Pointing Device. And then, my Genius Ergo 725 Laser mouse driver was installed.
After these steps I turned on the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" in Synaptics, so when I used my mouse, the touchpad didn't work, and when I disconnected my mouse I could use the touchpad. It?s normal I know.
It worked fine for a few weeks as I connected and disconnected.

BUT now
when I disconnect my mouse, I can't use my touchpad, it's simply not working, and if I connect my mouse again, my mouse doesn't work too. So I can't use my touchpad & mouse, just navigate with keyboard. I tried to uninstall & reinstall Synaptics and genius drivers, but nothing.

Also when this happens, I just restart my computer but when it's "shutting down" it freezes and doesn't restart or shut down. So I have to push the power button for a few sec.
If I don't disconnect my mouse while my OS running, or don't connect my mouse while OS is running, I can shut down and restart computer normally....
Now I have Windows 7 x86, but it happened with my Vista x86 too...

Strange problems, but I hope you can help!
Thanks forward.

This is a first time that I meet such issue?
I think it?s a OS issue? maybe something has been muddled up? updates? who knows?

I think firstly you should try to remove the touchpad drivers and software from the system and should clean the registry. I clean my registry using the CCleaner. It?s free tool.

After registry has been cleaned, reinstall the needed touchpad drivers and check if you can use the touchpad.

I have Acer D150. Im looking for solution at the moment.

Sometimes when i start the laptop and the mouse driver wont load properly so i have to use keyboard to go Device Manager and click Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad and rightclick and click Uninstall. The uninstallation went successful and the touchpad is working. But the problem occurs when i shut down laptop and next when i wish to use the laptop the problem's there.

Computer help from Paltalk advised me to uncheck and recheck Synaptics mouse on msconfig and i tried that and it didnt work.

Been went to PC World this afternoon and show to man and he checking and puzzling and advised me that he think mouse driver wasnt the problem but something is affecting mouse driver so advised a reinstall of XP. That why im looking for more solution to repair the problem without reinstall of XP.

Thanks for help.

Hi, I have an HP dm4t-1000 running Windows 7.  I just reformatted the HDD and attempted to get the system up-and-running again.  Everything seems to be working properly, except for the touchpad. I've rebooted, uninstalled, and reinstalled the Synaptics touchpad driver about 20 times thus far (multiple different versions too).  I can see the touchpad in my Device Manager (says it is working properly), and both Windows Update and the Update Driver function within the Device Manager -> Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad -> Update Driver Software... say that the driver is up-to-date.  However, the touchpad still does not work (at all), and when I attempt to modify the settings of the Synaptics driver (Control Panel -> Mouse), I do NOT see a Device Settings tab.  Also, when I open the Mouse properties (Control Panel -> Mouse), I get the following error message:"Control Panel Extension is Incompatible with Driver Version" I'm confused here.  The device manager says that my hardware is working properly, but my touchpad is totally non-functional. Any suggestions?

This will load BIOS setup utility.Press F9 to load defaults.Press F10 to save and exit. When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working. If the mouse is not working, turn off the computer. As you power it back on, tap F8 and load advanced boot options.Start in safe mode. Does the touchpad work in safe mode? Let me know how everything goes.

HI
Anyone any idea how to get the " Auto Disable Synaptics Touchpad when USB Mouse is connected" feature active again.  I found an old entry in a forum that referenced changing a setting in Registry to Hex 33 and implied that this would make the OPTION become visible in the Mouse settings in Control Panel.  But  it appeared to simply disable the touchpad ALL the time.So I assume Synaptics have changed things since this 'fix' was posted in 2009 I think. .
I have W7  XPS,  and Driver version 15.3.22.0 for Synaptics Touchpad.  Cheers

Answer:Auto Disable Synaptics Touchpad when USB Mouse is connected

SOLVED SOLVED SOLVED!!!

All - I've read through this and many forums and have found no solution. I figured it out on my own, so I am happy to share with you!
This solution applies to those who do not have a touchpad disable button on an F key at the top of your keyboard and have the Synaptics driver that does not show the option to disable the touchpad when the external device is present. This also applies to those where the registry key update does not work (as it did not for me).
Here's the solution.

1. Go to the Dell website and get the latest driver for your touchpad. Install it.
2. Once installed, go to c:\program files\synaptics\syntp in your windows explorer.
3. Open the program called DellTpad.exe (there is also one called DellTouchpad.exe -- don't use this one)

4. Once open, click Device Settings.

5. And voila, the old checkbox is there at the bottom! Just click to make this active and it works like a charm.

I took the TB mech drive out with Windows 8 and put in my own Samsung TB SSD (after shipping delayed to Friday and I had to go out and blow another $150 to buy the drive locally). I got Windows 7 installed clean on that SSD on the 17 inch Acer Aspire Nitro.

Then I go to install Synaptics from the Acer driver website (hooray for NO direct link to drivers!) and while it does install it refuses to give me the control panel tab with the option to disable the touchpad while a mouse is plugged in!

So you're going to give me a control panel mouse tab, right...?

The only software utilities I can find only disable the touchpad while typing, I need it disabled all the time unless I don't have a dedicated mouse plugged in.

I've also tried third party manufacturers, Acer's India-based tech support can't answer even the most simple questions and Google is dead set on shoving Windows 8 down my throat (I'm averaging about four - operators per search query at this point).

How do I make my computer obey?

Hello all,

Ive got some troubles with my new laptop which I cant seem to solve.

For some reason I cant type and click at the same time, like when I use the WASD keys and use the trackpad clicker simultaneously in games. (NOTE, this is the case when browsing or whatever as well)
The issue presides when I've got my external mouse plugged in and using that, but I was really looking foward to doing some casual gaming when im travelling and what not, and would rather not use an external mouse, but right now its more or less impossible. After trying tons of stuff out I figured out a quick solution to this problem, by constantly holding down the left CTRL button, but this is of course super uncomfortable and just making me even more frustrated that I cant just find a fix for it all together.

Spent a good couple of hours trying to figure it out with loads of google searches but none of the suggested solutions work (the most common tip being to disable the 'Palm Check Threshold' option in the Advanced tab in the Synpatics Control Panel, which does absolutely nothing) and trying to find the 'Click Delay' options which apparently is nowhere to be found in the current version of Windows 10 (sigh)

Has anyone els had these issues and know what the fix is for synaptics and windows 10?

And yes before you ask I've tried reinstallating several drivers, both current and past, but this particular thing does not change.

Hope someone could help me out

Hi folks,

I just upgraded my father-in-law's HP G70 laptop to Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. It is relatively new but had Vista on it. It was an "upgrade" and it appears to have preserved everything pretty well. A large number of updates have ben applied successfully via Windows Update. But -

I cannot believe how bad this touchpad is. I've had two customer support reps take over my computer and the problem still isn't fixed. The problem: The tap function is extremely erratic. Sometimes it takes one tap. Sometimes two. Sometimes 5 to execute the simple function of closing a tab on a browser, or electing a utility in a software app, or clicking on a link and opening it. etc. etc. Then, sometimes I tap and the cursor lurches....  This is my 3rd HP computer, but this is unacceptable. Fix it Hewlett Packard. Signed, A very unhappy customer

Three weeks or so ago I posted here, asking for help on how to disable my touch pad on a Lenovo laptop. I disabled all the gestures, unchecked the 'lock on' feature, etc. and for a short while thought the issue was resolved. It is not. Here is my original thread:
http://www.sevenforums.com/search.php?searchid=6664971
It was closed but I am still having problems. When I drag the pointer across objects, it activates them, opens pages, that sort of thing. If I accidentally leave the pointer on the 'previous page' button, it automatically does goes back. It is driving me crazy. I've disabled everything (except disabling the touch pad entirely) and it's still plaguing me.

Short of a virus (I've scanned a few times with AVG and MalwareBytes and found nothing), the only thing I can think is perhaps in disabling the various features, I accidentally hit upon a sequence or combination that keeps somehow didn't disable those features I don't want.

Any suggestions?

How can I activate them?

I recently upgraded from a Probook 4540s to a newer 450G3 with both running Win7 Pro 64bit.  I'm struggling with the new 450G3 and feel it's a driver issue rather than a touchpad issue, although I could be mistaken.I've searched HP and Synaptics websites for assistance with no success. Maybe someone here can assist. Here are the issues I'm experiencing on a continual basis.*Touchpad "accuracy" seems really poor-missed taps on pad and left click button-cursor jumps about screen-cursor doesnt always move with finger swipe-sometimes right click menu pops up when swiping with finger, absolutely not hitting right click button*Cursor scroll image freezes on screen (most annoying thing)-When two finger scrolling, the cursor image will freeze a phantom image onto the screen. I recently upgraded from a Probook 4540s to a newer 450G3 with both running Win7 Pro 64bit. The touchpad for my older Probook started a bit wonky but I eventually found a driver that made it right. I'm struggling with the new 450G3 and feel it's a driver issue rather than a touchpad issue, although I could be mistaken.

I've searched HP and Synaptics websites for assistance with no success. Maybe someone here can assist. Here are the issues I'm experiencing on a continual basis.

*Touchpad "accuracy" seems really poor
-missed taps on pad and left click button
-cursor jumps about screen
-cursor doesnt always move with finger swipe
-sometimes right click menu pops up when swiping with finger, absolutely not hitting right click button

*Cursor scroll image freezes on screen (most annoying thing)
-When two finger scrolling, the cursor image will freeze a phantom image onto the screen. It only happens on scrolling function with the scrolling cursor image. When you hover over the frozen image it shows the circular busy cursor image. Sometimes there will be 3 or more frozen images on screen which overlay almost any program you open. I can clear them by ending the SynTPEnh.exe process in task manager which seems to start itself back up immediately. That's all right, everything is set up and managed in the whole deal, except that the behavior of the middle button at the touchpad is not configurable and always operates on a scroll.Those. in the latest version of the drivers, this option has a check box, and there, only the behavior of a button it affects in any way, even to put - at least not put - scrolling! The only solution to remove the drivers synaptics and work under the standard windows driver for the mouse, but it is not convenient - every day this piece of *** is trying to roll the same curve of the driver and to please me broken middle button, which the browser is much more necessary to function as a middle mouse button (opening and closing tabs). However, can someone scroll function is very necessary, but obviously not for me, please add the ticket to synaptics, cause they the one, who coukd fix the bug.

Hi guys, Running the latest driver dated from the 18th of December (16.2.19.2) : http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS019164 Basically for some iterations now the Synaptics driver has been a bit poor, it won't remember settings across *some* reboots with no logic as to which reboots it does lose its settings on.Also and this is my reason for creating a specific post - has anyone else noticed that the driver is initiated right at the end of the boot procedure, I'm sure it was not normally like this, but it now takes some time for my sensitivity settings to be applied and the Ultranav scrolling - some 30-40 seconds after the Desktop has booted in - it seems to load right at the end of the chain. This definitely wasn't the case going back 6 months or so, as I've never noticed or remembered having to wait for the Synaptics part of the mouse driver to load. Is there a fix in the works as this driver has clearly fallen into disrepair recently for the T420s owners (and probably other X2X series owners). Am I the only one experiencing lagging of the driver being fully functional after boot ? I've completely wiped the driver from my system purged the inf files from the windows system area and re-installed from scratch but it's still the same. Any feedback or discussion on this point would be great. I see others have some success loading the generic drivers from the Synaptic website, this is ideally not a route I wan... Read more

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

I'm having a really annoying scrolling issue with the touchpad on my Lenovo X250 (Windows 10). The sensitivity of scrolling is dramatically decreased following the use of trackpoint scrolling. Example, say I have a program like Chrome open to a web page. Using two finger scrolling on the touchpad it takes maybe 2.5-3 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. I then hold down the middle button above the touchpad and use the trackpoint to scroll. Now that that is over I go back and try the touchpad again. This time it takes me 10-12 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. Scroll rate is already turned up to max in the synaptics settings, nothing has changed. Scrolling behavior will now remain this way until I restart the computer. Can someone please provide a solution?

Answer:X250 scrolling sensitivity issues with synaptics touchpad driver

Additionally it seems that the trackpad will randomly become unresponsive at time as if it "sticks". I remaped caps lock to CTRL and I cannot use the trackpad while holding it down, the mouse freezes. All around not a great experience with this driver.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

I am now using an external mouse.
How can I restore the TouchPad mouse? When I open the control panel, I get the possibility to uninstall the Synaptics driver. Should I?
Thanks for your help!

Please post this info always!!!

Regarding your issue;
Firstly you should try to remove the old touchpad driver and after you have downloaded the newest version of touchpad driver from the Toshiba European driver page try to reinstall it!

This is really starting to annoy the hell out of me. I just picked up a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, the Notebook 5000 mouse to be exact for my home entertainment center.

I have my PC ran to a monitor and a 55 inch Samsung LED LCD TV for watching movies etc. The problem is, the HDMI cord is run threw the wall so the PC is in another room so I cant use the normal mouse on the PC. I bought a bluetooth mouse due to the increased range but I'm having nothing but issues.

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth dongle btw, didn't come with the mouse, the mouse actually comes with no dongle.

Anyway it connects fine but if I stop using it for like an hour or whatever it disconnects and nothing I do will reconnect it unless I take my other mouse, go into bluetooth devices, delete it and readd it all over again.

WHY THE HELL does it keep doing this lol?

It's very annoying, I sit down to watch a movie and discover I cant start it without first going into the other room and readding my mouse.

I'm well within range and I've tried moving the bluetooth mouse to the same room as the PC to use it with the PC and it still does the same thing.

Help?

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a new Alienware PC and it is just fantastic!

My only little problem is that I am having a weird issue I can't seem to find an answer for online.

When I boot my PC everything is working perfectly fine like it should. However whenever I access a website or program that makes the screen flash my mouse pointer dissapears. It will then reappear as little lines with no mouse pointer visible. It is a pain to navigate the computer this way until I go to a web page or program and the mouse pointer comes back.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to correct this.

My setup is a Intel Core I7 930 QC (2.8 Ghz, 8MB Cache)

Windows 7 64 bit

Dual ATI Radeon HD 5670 with crossfire enabled.

The mouse that I am using is a Razer Deathadder and I connected to through HDMI to a 22inc Vizio 720P LCD television.

Answer:Mouse pointer issues with new Alienware Aurora Mouse

I'm not sure if this will help, go to your Mouse settings in Control Panel and turn on the "mouse trail" set it to the minimal that it will go to. Try and get the screen flash+mouse disappear to happen and see if it goes away.

This is however NOT a fix if it does work.. I use to play Battlefield 2 and half the time my mouse would disappear "behind the screen" as if there was no mouse there, but I could click things. Turning on the trail displayed the mouse but it was really aggravating and a little hard on the eyes..

Like I said it is not a fix. What do you mean though about a webpage/program that loads and makes the screen flash, like, it changes resolutions to accommodate for the program?

If it is that then I see this either being a video or monitor issue.. Maybe try changing the screen refresh rate, or the bit colour? I haven't had this issue in a long time so I can not play around with it to try.

One last thing you can try is, there is also a setting where the Mouse Pointer Trail is enabled that says to hide the mouse when you type, try disabling this and see if it helps? I doubt this will fix the issue but you never know.

You could try updating the mouse driver in Device Manager. If it doesn't work for you then you can use Rollback.

I've had this issue since last weekend and I've tried many different things in order to fix it. When I boot up my computer, I can use the mouse pad normally, but as soon as I use the external mouse, I can only either interact with the taskbar or anything else but the taskbar.

I use a Steelseries Sensei RAW.

Methods I have tried so far:
Restart computer (several times)
Run antivirus and anti-malware scans
Closed Sticky Notes (which seemed to solve it, but just a little while)
Installed new graphics card driver (again, solved it temporarily)
System Restore
Windows Recovery
Command Prompt and run sfc /scannow trice
Update Steelseries driver

Sometimes, opening a program, which asked if I wanted to let it make changes to Windows helped a couple of times. It didn't matter which program it.

I hope you can help. Thank in advance.

Answer:Mouse pad works normally, but USB mouse causes issues

Many Notebooks/Laptops have a feature to turn off the Touchpad, usually a switch or an Fn+Fx key combination to do it, it's a hardware thing separate from the Operating System. The question would then be, does turning off the Touchpad while using the External mouse allow it to work normally?

Hi, I have a Logitech G9 and have had trouble finding a suitable mousemat for it.

I first purchased a Razer eXactMat, but I found that after a few months with it, the mouse skates wore down terribly so that the mouse was actually touching the mouse mat. I sent away for a new logitech G9 as I was unable to find replacement skates. Therefore I decided to buy a soft mouse pad so that the new mouse skates wouldn't be ruined.

I purchased the Steelseries Qck Mini, which served me no better than the razer. The mouse was not damaged by using it, but the mouse has tracking problems when it is used. For example, it is impossible to move the mouse in a straight line, as the laser isn't touching a smooth surface, this is my attempt at drawing a straight line on paint...

Which is at a low sensitivity, when I increase the sensitivity the problem is exacerbated. Furthermore, the mouse mat is unable to sense quick movements. For example, if I move the mouse from one side to the other really quickly, it only travels roughly half the distance of when I move the mouse slowly from one side to the other. The problem is not down to my mouse, as it works perfectly on the wood table surface.

I am now considering purchasing a third mouse mat, but I really do not know which one to get.

Very sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated

I bought this machine about 2 months and I am already having 100 issues already. This is my first Lenovo and I was told that they are known for their durability. I honestly regret about buying this laptop.  First, I had the hardest time fixing the mouse pad sensitivity. Now, I just realized today that my swiping gestures are not working. When you slide you one finger from Right - Left the right side Windows 8 Charm menu shows up but from Left - Right it is suppose to go to the last open Application. That is not happening.  I have check the Edge Swipe options and all that, nothing is working. And I don't want to deal with their customer service.  Second Issue:  All of a sudden the contrast of my screen goes all Dull. Like the color green will start to look like Ocean green, Red will go pink and I have a touch screen in this. Any advice?  Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

However, he has had the same symptoms with 2 differnt mice, both with different interfaces. I'm thinking it must be an issue with his Windows installation.

Now, I'd rather format his machine than spend hours troubleshooting the issue, but I thought I would ask if any geeks have a quicker fix I might try. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

TIA,

Is it near any separate power sources which could affect the mouse e.g speakers

Any changes to hardware that could have a driver incompatability e.g. PCI card etc - if so, driver update.

Have a problem with a lady & Windows 98 and her mouse. Basically she is running 98 on a quite oldish PC and occassionally her PS2 mouse stopped working, so she was wiggling the cable and sometimes it came back on working again. She then went out to buy a new PS2 mouse and it kept happening again.I suggested that because of the wiggling, it might have affected the connectors so i then suggested that the quickest & easiest fix is to grab a USB mouse which she did.She got a Philex mouse model: 75240hfHowever the mouse is still not recognised so does not work. The mouse did not come with any drivers etc and it stated that it was plug n play - no drivers needed, compatible with windows 98.Any suggestions what to check? One thing, when i got her over the phone to go to add new hardware, it was trying to ask for a Hidclass.sys file, but she could not find it on the PC or on the Windows CD and it doesn't give the option to do a web search for the file.Any hep would be great

Hi Guys,

Interesting problem here. Running Windows 8.1 on a EvGA Motherboard with an Intel CPU. Can't give details because mouse is not working correctly.

So the issue is with a mouse. I have tried wireless and wired and the problem is that the mouse is jumpy and not accurate. It drifts and just simply is lagging. It is to the point that I can't use the computer.

I have tried three different wireless infra red Mice and one of them is for a keyboard too. The keyboard works fine.

I have Windows Media Center third party remote controls that have a mouse function and it is the same with them. I have the latest 8.1 updates too.

I have tried all USB ports and I have tried shutting the computer down and switching off the PSU and discharging all power and then rebooting all to no avail.

I am wondering if the Motherboard is too old now but it seems strange that the keyboard is fine.

Any ideas please?

Sorry that I can't give you more specs but it is all hand built and there is about 16 GB of RAM.

Question: Mouse Issues

Hey folks, I am having the same issue, but I can't even follow the troubleshooting steps - the ghost touches and mouse craziness is simply too fast and out of control. The only thing I can reliably do is do a fake power down by pressing the power button. This is a Surface Pro 3 with updates applied automatically, i think a few days ago when my daughter last complained about Microsoft updating & shutting down the device.

Any ideas, if I can't even get into Safe Mode?

EDIT: I finally managed to shutdown by using ALT+Fn+F4 and really quick Enter when the Shutdown dialog appears. It reboots, no change. Even the lock screen is jumping, as the ghost touches try to interact with the device.

EDIT: Argh, finally managed to reboot in Safe Mode, the touch circle is still going nuts.

EDIT: OK also managed to finally open Windows update, almost got cancelled by the ghost clicks...1607 Win 10 is applied now, with no improvement. I can't believe I paid so much for this piece of trash. This device has had several issues, this one the worst. We have another SP3 that has also had several issues with fans, overheating and pointer issues - MS slipped waay beyond recovery in my books.

Question: Mouse issues

All new hardware under win 7 installed March, all drivers from HW makers, all OK until a month or so ago, when mouse started freezing - no errors found so changed mouse, from a branded wireless to another, seemed OK at first, but then re-occurred, changed
to another branded wireless only for the issue to occur again, so fitted a wired usb branded mouse.
Ran OK for a while then started again, I'm using win default sounds, and its a device disconnect sound generated, mouse freezes, then comes back to life after a few clicks.
Problem then went away and I did the in-place win7>win10 upgrade. All went fine, for a week or two then mouse again started playing up.
Ran HD makers diagnostics - all OK
Ran sfc, no problem
7 hour memory test (memtest86) all OK
Nothing from trouble shooters
Noted times of device disconnect sounds, then checked event viewer - nothing found.
No games or bad software installed - only verified business programs - system is clean - HW all mainstream brands 'pro' versions
I'm completely perplexed :(

Question: USB mouse issues

[Running windows xp sp3 and on an administrator account]

So today I picked up the iHome FastTrack laser mouse IH-M126LR. I came home and plugged it in and I get this issue:

I've tried the age old trick of restarting, unplugging and plugging back in, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver through the device manager, trying different USB ports and unplugging the hub, and Googleing for a solution for the past hour.

The mouse works on the other computer in my house. I simply plugged it in and ran like it was supposed to. And that computer is older, slower, but running the same OS.

And the website does not offer a manual download for the driver, unless i missed it.

[edit]
Before I was using a ps/2 adapter so I could keep my usb ports free for other devices. But I decided to try it in a USB port and it doesn't work. So I plugged it back into the adapter and restarted. It's working again but the scroll wheel doesn't seem to work.

Nonetheless my computer seems to reject USB mice. Any suggestions?

Question: USB Mouse Issues!

For some reason, my laptop keeps killing my mice. This is the third USB optical mouse to die on me. I just purchased the mouse a few days ago, and now it's already acting up. The first mouse, the left button stopped working, the second would turn itself off and on, and now the third one is also, turning itself on and off. I've tried reinstalling my drivers, scanning for viruses, malware, spyware, etc. It all turns up nothing. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? It's funny though, because I can connect my ipod, cooling fan, etc, without any sort of problem. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1440, Windows 7 x64, and it's about a year old, I believe.

Thanks,
Mike

Question: Mouse Issues

My mouse will only work for a few seconds at a time. I can move it and click one or two things then it stops. It takes a good 20-30 seconds before it unfreezes and I can use it again. Then, after one or two clicks or movements, BAM, freezes again. I have tried using a restore point to an earlier time thinking it would help. I have updated my virus protection (Trend Micro's PC-cillin) and scanned for viruses. I have downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy and scanned for evil things. I have all my Windows updates that I've been notified to download and install. I have reinstalled my mouse driver (software). I even uninstalled the most recent software program that I installed (Koday EasyShare) thinking that was the culprit. All of this to no avail. The mouse still keeps freezing up every five seconds. It's rendered my computer useless. (I am using a laptop to post this.) My sister seems to think it's the mouse. . . but it WAS working fine up until a few weeks ago. It's relatively new (4 or 5 months old). It's a wireless laser mouse. I've noticed that the green light on the receiver turns green and stays that way when the mouse is frozen. It's almost as if the mouse is "busy". Once the light blinks once or twice, I can use the mouse again for a few seconds. Then, again, the light goes solid green and is stuck that way. Any other ideas??

Answer:Mouse Issues

CPU at 100% can cause this behavior or this.

Are you using Aero Mouse pointers? The latest Nvidia drivers have an
issue with Aero Mouse pointers and will cause the intermittent mouse
cursor issue. Change to another mouse pointer (I'm using Windows
animated and that took care of the problem

Question: Mouse issues

I don't need an exterminator, at least not for another year.

I have a Logitech Desktop MX3200 Laser mouse, I have had problems with it since day one but never bothered returning it and its now 3 years old.

Most of the times when I only want to single click it double clicks and I have to keep clicking until it engages a single click.

I was wondering if there is a way to somehow align the mouse or do some kind of restore to default. I messed around before with the settings inside Windows but I re-install Windows several times since so I know it didn't keep my settings.

Which way should I move the slider under mouse settings in Windows 7.

Question: Mouse Issues

I have an issue with my mouse that drives me nuts - it is a Logitech Wireless, although I do not believe that is an issue. I will do my best to describe the problems.
I may be using Google Reader - when I click on the 'NEXT' button, it will often times move two messages. This does NOT happen all the time.
Other instances - in Windows Explorer I may delete a file. The file selected may delete correctly but where the mouse ends up may be an 'EXE' file and without my clicking on it, the 'EXE' file will activate.
The best way I can describe this issue is, a single click often times turns into more than a single click. It is a difficult issue to describe but is very frustrating. I have been in control panel to adjust the mouse settings, but nothing seems to fit the issue.

Answer:Mouse Issues

This is a common issue with mice, normally due to old age.

How long have you had the mouse and how much do you normally use it?

Question: Mouse issues

Hello,I'm having trouble with my computer after downloading Drivermax. It updated my mouse USB driver, and things went downhill from there. I removed Drivermax using Revo Uninstaller. I scanned my computer in safe mode with Malwarebytes, and it came back clean. I tried to find my Nexxtech NX2 mouse with 'Add Hardware' but it would only find my PS2 mouse. Only 2 of the 5 USB ports make a noise when I plug in my USB mouse, but the caption says it can't find the hardware. I'm currently using my PS2 mouse. I tried Intel's driver update utility, and it didn't have any updates, nor did microsoft update. I tried the majority of these things in safe mode, including Malwarebytes. In device manager, there is no yellow exclamation point, and the microsoft ps2 mouse is the only one listed. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Mouse issues

1) NEVER use third party apps for drivers.2) Drivers should only be updated if there is a specific need or reason to do so.3) Use system restore to go back to a time before you had a problem. Then uninstall drivermax

Question: Mouse issues

Any help would be appreciated on this. My friend's boss gave her one of the old computers from the office. The computer was originally set up to work with a drafting digitizer board instead of a mouse. The mouse will go up and down but has problems with left and right. She just keeps shutting down and restarting the computer until the mouse works. Is there any way to get the mouse working for good, or is there no hope. She has Windows 95 installed.

Answer:Mouse issues

You might want to check and see if the mouse itself is ok. Check it on a different computer and test a different mouse on that computer. The mouse might just need to be cleaned.

When I open a website there is a delay...when I move my mouse over the website it quickly opens...why?

Similar issue when viewing HULU...I get a slow feed of the television program until I move my mouse over the program, then it runs fine if I keep moving the mouse. When I stop moving the mouse, the program "stutters" again...kind of like it is buffering..but isn't.

Why is my computer needing its mouse to be mobile?

The mouse never points correctly. To select something with my mouse pointer, I am required to point part time with the bottom of the mouse pointer and then sometimes with the top of the pointer. It changes randomly, It causes me to select the wrong icons constantly.

Question: Mouse Issues

This is a weird one and I'm usually pretty good at solving these myself. Here's what happens... when I start my computer and XP loads, once everything is loaded and good to go, if I right click anyway, the contextual menu disappears almost immediately. The cursor moves normally but there's something erratic about clicking. If I click the start menu, it immediately disappears or gets stuck on the first thing the cursor goes over. If it goes over log out, the task bar disappears for a second, then everything comes back on. It's almost as if the left mouse button is stuck down or something. My way around it is to press the "Home" media key on my keyboard so an IE window pops up. I close that and everything's fine. Very strange. This is on my other computer, not this one. I built the computer about 7 years ago myself and only just recently loaded XP Pro onto it. Any ideas? I'm having a lot of problems with drivers for my audio and video cards, too, but can work around those for now. I'll get to the static coming from my speakers (probably an audio card issue since it's old) another time.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Answer:Mouse Issues

That could either be drivers, the port or the mouse.

Try some of these troubleshooting ideas:

1. Change the drivers.
2. Change the mouse.
3. Check the port by plugging in another mouse into that port.

I got one for my fellow geeks to figure out.

Every once in a while, my mouse decides that a single click is actually a double click to it. This will go on for a while, then it will revert back to normal. It is a MX1000 Logitech mouse and the drivers/everything are up to date.

this has become quite annoying so any ideas would be helpful

Question: mouse issues

Here's the problem:From a cold boot my mouse works everytime.  Now from a warm boot, the mouse will not work every second restart.  Right now, if I was to restart my system within windows, once fully booted, the mouse cursor is frozen on the screen, it won't move.  If I restart it from this state and it boots back up again, the mouse will work.  It doesn't matter if it's a usb or ps/2 mouse. There is no spyware on my system, and I have minimal items starting up.Any help at all with this would be appreciated.ThanksFrank

Answer:mouse issues

It seem to be nothing special. Boot your PC and when your mouse doesn't work then using "Tab" and arrow keys, goto device manager and install standerd mouse drivers. Thats all.If you cant install the drivers then boot your PC to get mouse work. After this goto device manager and expand the "Mouse" category and remove the current mouse. Your mouse will again stop. Now refresh you PC by clicking the refresh button down of the "Device manager" dialog box( In case of windows98) or right click on the top most entity in the device list and select "scan for hardware changes" (in case of Windows XP). Windows will automatically detect and install your mouse.I hope that this will solve your problem.Do take care of you and others and be happy.Bye...DrWahab

Answer:Issues with Mouse

First thing that I could think of is go to device manager
and look for the mouse driver
Look for any yellow warning markers
Look for a current driver at the website of the mouse mfg.
Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices - Windows 7 Forums for vista too
Install current driver
Does not work
Try a system restore back to a few days before the problem
System Restore - How to
Does not work
Make a full antivirus scan and download and make a full scan with malwarebytes, be sure to update first
Still does not work, try an SFC scan.
System Files - SFC Command

Question: Mouse issues

I posted in the Internet Software and Browsers section awhile ago about an issue I was having.

I've been getting a lot of double clicks in Chrome.
Opening new tabs or closing tabs would sometimes result in a double click.
Highlighting text for copy/paste would sometimes deselect it after highlighting.

I recently noticed I'm getting this in things like Solitaire too.
Clicking to flip the card would result in a double flip.

I thought it might just be a dirty mouse issue, so I opened it up and cleaned it.
Still getting double clicks though.

So, is this an indicator that I should be looking for a new mouse, or might there be another issue?

Answer:Mouse issues

So it's not software dependent. I say the sensor on it is a bit jumpy. What mouse is it? I had a Logitech G4 go bad on me, the right button would no longer "click". Like a spring wasn't there.

If it's one of those cheap mice, get a new one. If not, look to RMA it.

Question: Mouse issues?

I have a funny (not to me) problem that only happens when I play FPS games. My mouse, at random, gets all spongy-like. Kind of hard to explain, like when I try to move it sometimes, it doesn't want to. I've tried everything I can think of. I was using a Logitech MX400 laser, via USB and USB/PS2, then broke out my Deathadder, no luck. Reinstalled drivers for essentially everything, no luck. Different surfaces, no luck. Now, this machine is no rocket, but I run CS 1.6 at 70-80 fps steady, so I don't think it's the pc lagging, or is that possible? Could the mobo be getting ready to fail? I've tried all I can. I'm running XP pro, SP3. I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, because my other machine has the exact same specs, and both mice work fine on that other one. Am I overlooking something? I even tried flashing the BIOS with MSI's newest revision, same thing. Help would be appreciated!!

Answer:Mouse issues?

EDIT!!

So far so good. Due to the fact that my Windows polling rate was 125hz, and I had my deathadder set on 1000hz, it was glitching. FYI for anyone else trying this. Google windows xp polling rate, follow the directions, and off you go! Blast our wretched ball mouse past!

Answer:Mouse issues

Well you can try a different mouse and /or you should buy and install a small SSD, then go into Photoshop and change the location of the scratch disk to the SSD. You should also consult a Photoshop user forums for information on maximizing your resources and user experience.
Also there is the possibility that based on what you are doing, 8gb of Ram may not be enough.

I have lurked for some time and its likely some of you have helped me without knowing it (thank you), however i have come across a rather particular problem that needs more specific help.

First a little history. Recently my computer fired, the motherboard and even CPU died horribly. I had to get a new motherboard and CPU, it was a small upgrade but thats neither here nor there.

So far, everything has worked fine, except for my USB mouse (Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0). At first it worked for about an hour before it started to freeze up and either have to wait a few moments, or unplug the USB plug and plug it back in. I have tried it with all the USB ports i can find and i still get this issue.

Okay, i thought, just reinstall the drivers that probably got lost. This hasnt fixed this, however. My old motherboard has two pin-ports for the keyboard/mouse and i used an adapter for the mouse, this motherboard only has one pin-port (which the keyboard needs) and i thought without the adapter it would still work just fine, it can't be that.

Sometimes i get a message popping up at the button right saying that the device is not recognized or some such (its fast and doesn't stay around long).

When this little hiccup happens, i hear the same sound that you get when you plug in a PnP device. It seems that it thinks that the mouse is being unplugged (and when it works) the sound appears again when the mouse starts working again (it thinks its back in). I'm not sur... Read more

Answer:USB mouse issues

baneverything,Your explanation of your problem and the various things that you have tried is very complete and to me seems to cover just about all the courses of action you could have taken. I suspect the only relevance of the changed location of the computer is the possibility it has caused a problem with a connection. Hard to believe that it would be a USB port connection as other devices are not intermittent when used in them. A defective mouse is also not likely. Is it possible for you to try and install and use a PS2 mouse?(not through an adapter but via an actual PS2 mouse port). Other than the uninstal/reinstall of mouse related software since you brought it home have you changed or added any additional software? truenorth

A few months ago the computer started making the noise to indicate that hardware was being removed; and the mouse died. Then it would make the noise of hardware being installed, and the mouse worked again. Sometimes it would go out, and the only way to get it working again was to unplug the mouse, then plug it in again. It no longer happens often, but it happens a couple of times/week, and it's annoying. Any ideas?
