Microsoft All in One Media Keyboard - Keyboard and Touchpad both at once not working?

Question: Microsoft All in One Media Keyboard - Keyboard and Touchpad both at once not working?

Hi,
I'm having problems with my All-in-One Keyboard on Windows 8.1(64 bit): it doesn't accept input both from keyboard and touchpad at same time (can't walk in a FPS game while looking with mouse, for example).
Is this a product's limitation or should it work?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On my laptop Satellite L20 not working keyboard and touchpad, but keyboard work in BIOS, USB-ports also not working (USB mouse).

Can i get update file for BIOS(traditional updating from boot CD, not OS!)

Sorry for my bad English.

Answer:Satellite L20 keyboard & touchpad not working but keyboard work in BIOS

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

But this keyboard and mouse issue is really strange. can you use it if you start operating system in ?safe mode??

Windows 7 and Outlook 2007
The send button does not send the e-mail in Outlook 2007.
I have Intelli Type Pro 8 software loaded on my computer which I downloaded from Microsoft support.

I don't know how to go to Microsoft direct to get support for this keyboard which I only purchased 3 days ago.

Help.

Tom

Answer:send button not working on Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000

Load up your IntelliType software and check to see what the button is programmed to do, exactly. If it doesn't seem to be working and it's set to Send an Email Message, customize that button with a macro. Create a new macro that does "CTRL+ENTER" (Just hit CTRL+ENTER as if you would when you are ready to send the email and it'll do what it needs to notate it). Give that a shot.

Ran Norton Antivirus and came up empty. Cannot run Spybot or Microsoft Security Essentials. Can download Spybot but it will not allow it to run. Will not allow MSE to download definition files. You could try this:

1. Turn the laptop off and remove all attachments including the battery.

2. Press the power button for about 15 seconds.

3. Replace the battery and power connection.

4. Boot the laptop and press F2 at the splashscreen to go into setup.

5. Press F9 which will reset to defaults.

6. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Answer 'yes'.

7. Laptop will reboot.

Hopefully this will solve your problem.

I have read a few topics for solving this kinda problem, and there was some topics, where the problem was absolutely the same, like mine, but those solutions didnt work for me, unfortunetely.  I bought ma Lenovo IdeaPad laptop a few days ago, and when I woke up today, my keyboard and touchpad didnt work. When I go to the device manager, it says that my keyboard is working fine, but have problems with my touchpad (This device cannot start. (Code 10)). was reading about updating my BIOS. Right now my BIOS info is: SMBIOSBIOSVersionCCCN15WW(V2.01)   Downloaded update for BIOS from Lenovo website (ver 2.71) but when I wanted to install it, at the "Please choose one of the following tasks: Update ThinkPad Bios and Update model number" I get "Flash Module cannot be found. The utility process has not completed" - for the both of them. I have Windows 10 on it.  I really hope, someone can help me about it, and thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, and Happy Holidays,

I just installed windows 7 ultimate on my daughters, acer aspire 3050 laptop. It was running vista home basic before. The vista install was damaged by viruses, so I decided to upgrade her to 7. All the hardware was recognized, but for some reason the keyboard does not work, it was working fine with the virus riddled vista install. For some strange reason the windows key does bring up the start menu, but none of the other keys seem to do anything. They all work in the BIOS just fine. Also the touch pad does work, but the cursor movement is very jerky, and it was also fine in vista. I went to acer's site, they don't have any windows 7 drivers available for this model, or any vista drivers for the keyboard, I installed the vista touch pad drivers, but they did not seem to help. I also messed with the keyboard settings in control panel, but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas, on what I need to do to fix this. I have been really pleased with 7 on my other computers, and would hate to have to go back to vista. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance,

Steve

Answer:keyboard and touchpad not working

The reason it won't work is because there is no Windows 7 support for your acer aspire 3050 laptop. You can see this at the Acer website, choose Notebook, Aspire then Aspire 3050 which will show you a page for your laptop. You can see there is no Windows 7 support as yet. Acer Support - Drivers & Download

Looks like you already found this out.

Let me look around and see if anyone has found a driver that will work. Nothing found that is made for your exact model so far.

Your model isn't on the list of supported laptops but that doesn't mean that a touchpad driver from another notebook won't work on your model. I would pick a model on the Windows 7 supported list, then find the touchpad and keyboard driver for that model and try it out.

Drivers.
Check your OEM support site for the latest driver set BEFORE 29, July, 2015 as those would be good for 8.1

Hi folks

I hope someone can help me. My laptop recently became buggered by a virus and as I did not have a windows 7 installation disc I decided to restore it to its factory default using some sort of dell backup utility.

Since I did this my touchpad and keyboard no longer seems to work! keyboard works fine when i select f8 on startup as i can flick through the options however when i boot into safe mode the touchpad and keyboard still don't work.

I don't know what to do as I can't do anything without the keyboard or touchpad!

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you need any more info let me know.

Thanks

I seem to have a strange issue where my keboard will not work at all when I don't have the power cable plugged in.  The minute I unplug the power the touchpad and keys will not work.  I have tried to dock and undock, shutdown and restart while docked, shutdown and restart with out dock and then inserting into dock. when its unplugged the f12 lights be blinking. have updated all drivers - no go. also no customer support here in kuwai where i am right now. at least microsoft has a chat support which sorry to say a big company like hp does not have. first you spend huge amount of money to buy their hardware and then more money on support which is appalling for something which is not your fault.

Hi everyone
I recently formatted+reinstaled Windows on a "old" laptop (Acer Aspire 5620)
I installed Windows 7 (instead of Xp that it had earlier ) and after the installation was complete (first time n desktop) the touchpad and keyboard would not operate. at all
Ive tried all windows updates (in case of drivers), because there are no official drivers for 7(only xp)

The thing is that inside device manager theres nothing wrong with the touch+keyboard
(no marks, both are recognized and "operate fine")
Ive tried reboots, sometimes rarely the keyboard might enter a couple characters (with delay) and sometimes the touchpad might move the pointer a bit (with delay too)

However the keyboard works fine in bios, and both worked perfectly in windows setup (in formatting i mean)
The devices also works ok in safe mode.

Any ideas plz?

P.S. The computer before the format had ALSO win7 so its not something new with that

I just ran my Microsoft Windows Update a couple of days ago which included Microsoft - Keyboard - Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (Mouse and Keyboard Center). I think this is the culprit causing my problems. Now both my mousepad on my laptop and my mouse are active at the same time and I am unable to uninstall or turn off the mousepad. I've tried uninstall two different ways and neither worked after restarting and shutting down as per instructions. It is driving me crazy because it is extremely hard to type as the cursor will jump on the page and insert my typed letters into the wrong place. I have to get it uninstalled! Typing this is a nightmare and I am not dragging my thumbs on the pad or touching it in anyway. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone! I have a Toshiba Satellite M305 that I upgraded from Vista to 7. I performed the Upgrade but had issues immediately (black screen, constant freezing)... so I backed up everything and did a clean Windows 7 install.

Now I have a fresh install. Worked fine, downloaded updates, and now the keyboard any touchpad will not work. USB keyboard & mice work fine though.

Under device manager, it shows the keyboard as PS2, but no errors. For the touchpad it says "PS2 Mouse" (but it's a touchpad), and error code 10.

I noticed that if I uninstall the "mouse" and reboot, the touchpad will work until next reboot.

Next, I downloaded new Synaptic drivers and even tried the Toshiba driver pack. Didn't work... the uninstall trick doesn't work now either.

I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas? I am leaning on a bad update from Windows update. I have searched Google and found numerous similar problems but cannot seem to get this resolved.

Thanks for any help! I can provide any more info that may be needed.
Corey

Answer:Windows 7 Touchpad & Keyboard not working

Since the install is probably still pretty clean, maybe you could try reinstalling again (I know, I know...) and installing your mouse drivers right off the bat from the Toshiba Website. Of course, be sure it's the right version of the driver, you know x86/x64, and for Vista/7.

This is my best guess, but if you have more pertinent info, maybe we can work something out.

Whenever I flip the screen back to use the P40 as a tablet and then when I flip it back to laptop mode, sometimes the keyboard and mouse will not respond. It's as if the computer doesn't notice that the screen is in laptop mode and does not reactivate the keyboad and touchpad. I have to reset the laptop multiple times or close the lid and open it up again several times to get them to work again. Whenever I restart the computer the keyboard lights will turn on during startup but turn back off whenever I get to the sign in screen. I have found no pattern that consistently works to reactivate the keyboard/touchpad. I am also having an issue that when the computer is in tablet mode, it will not re-orient the screen when I change positions (like from landscape to portrait orientation). I think these issues might be something related to the sensors on  the computer not working properly... Anyone else having this problem? Any known solutions? Thanks for any help. Walter

My laptop's keyboard and Touchpad suddenly stopped working a few days ago but my USB mouse is still working. It is working every time  I boot the computer but after some time I just stops. I looked at the mouse settings and the Synaptics tab was missing so I reinstall the Synaptics Touchpad Driver from HP sopport page. The driver was installed but it disappears again and the touchpad and keyboard stops working. The problem is still there so I tried to uninstall it again checking the "delete the driver permanently" or something then rebooted my PC. After rebooting I intalled the driver after the intallation was done it prompted me to reboot so I restarted the PC again but after the restart the driver is not installed. Hi @NoGameNoLife , Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help! I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the keyboard and Touchpad but your mouse is still working.  When you checked the mouse setting the Synaptics tab was missing.  You downloaded the Synaptic Touchpad driver and installed but it again disappeared and the keyboard and Touchpad stop working,  You deleted the driver this time and rebooted your notebook. You again installed the driver and it prompted  you to reboot which you did, but again the driver is not installed.  The keyboard now works but after some time it quits responding. Have you scanned for viruses and malware? Would you try this step:Go to the command prompt and right click to run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for it to complete and then restart your computer. This will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them. Here are links to assist you with some troubleshooting steps.Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) If this has not resolved the issue, I would try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).   If you connect an external keyboard do you have the same issue, does it quit responding after awhile?  If you are still having a difficulty, I would do a full recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) During the recove... Connect a USB mouse and then uninstall the keyboard and tablet driver in Device Manger. Reboot. Does that solve the problem?

You might want to try a system restore to a date before the problem. Just make sure that anything on the desktop that was added since the system restore used is backed up.

This may also be a malware issue.

Hello Guys,

this is a very strange problem im experiencing on a Acer Aspire 3000

i reinstalled xp home from scratch, and the touchpad is not working, nor the keyboard, you can get some movement if you press the keyboard and the touchpad. very little though, and keys are not typing at all. but USB mouse & keyboard is fine.

This problem existed before, and this is why i ran a full reinstallation. The other thing is when i right click on my computer and go to preperties, nothing happens. so i cant even see device manager, i cant launch device manager from system in control panel either...and start+R then mmc devmgmt.msc doesnt work either...
im getting an error about the files being missing.

I have reinstalled twice with two different xp home disks, one full and the other a Dell disk

yet...when im in a cloning software interface...or linux ...the touchpad and keyboard work fine.

i tested my hard drive which passed
and i also switched the memory with known working good RAM...same problem

and on top of it...most times you cant shut the laptop down by holding in the power button...you have to pull out the battery.

i have also installed the drivers for the touchpad from acers web site...which didnt do any justice.

im starting to think the motherboard is faulty...just wanted to get some input before i blast it with a shotgun, and post the video on you tube!!!

Answer:Keyboard touchpad not working in XP Home

i also loaded the bios default setings, it didnt help...also installed win 7 which crashes on startup

A few days ago I formatted a drive and installed Win 8.1. Also installed all the drivers. Yesterday, when closing it downloaded some updates which it installed today. Now neither keyboard nor touchpad works. I connected a wireless keyboard but it won?t work either. Wired mouse does work.

Tried to uninstall those devices and run it again, but in vain. I don?t want to use system recovery, cause I have installed some software already and wouldn?t really enjoy going through this again.

In device manager, I can see my keyboard with a following error:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Highlighted mouse shows:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Any idea how to solve this problem?
Cheers

P.S. Almost forgot, i'm using notebook Acer V3-571G

Compaq V6000 Vista Home, (32 bit) service pack 2. Computer about four years old. Motherboard replaced about four months ago because of graphic chips issue.

After a period of time / 30 min or so(?) (varies) the touchpad stops working. The blue power light continues to stay on, indicating the pad is still ?turned on? but the pad and buttons don't function. When the touchpad goes into this state, the icon on the bottom toolbar disappears. I also loose all sound, although the speaker icon remains.

When in this state the touchpad blue power light stays on and pushing the touchpad power button has no affect. (it should turn it off and illuminate an orange light)

The touch pad will also go into this state if the computer goes into the hibernate or sleep mode. One interesting thing, when in sleep or hibernate mode, you can awaken the computer by touching the touchpad surface, indicating to me that the pad is working until the computer comes ?awake.? After it wakes up, the blue blight is still on but the touchpad is inoperable.

If the touchpad is working, you can enter the sleep mode, return and the touchpad will continue to function normally.

To restore the touchpad and sound, the computer must be restarted. After that, everything works fine for a while. (time varies)

I can plug in a USB mouse to get around this issue.

I have done extensive research on Google. This issue has been happening at least since 2009. (although I didn't run across the sound issue mentioned) ... Read more

If anyone can help
I have a toshiba Satellite M50-A-11p laptop (windows 8.1) that I brought from John Lewis
I tend to not shut down my laptop and leave it on sleep mode.
All of a sudden once the laptop wakes up when I open it non of the keyboard functions or touchpad works. I press and hold the start button to switch off and switch back on but again I cannot type or move the cursor.
I used a usb mouse which the laptop recongised and used the online keyboard to login in. After that the laptop froze and gave me the light blue screen of death message. Again I switch the laptop off and back on and repeated the login process of using the usb mouse and online keyboard.
I decided to refresh the laptop (with not affecting the files) and the keyboard and touchpad worked till it automatically when into sleep mode after and I had the same problem the touchpad on the keyboard and the keyboard are not working again.
I decided to refresh the laptop completely affecting what is on the laptop and again everything is working till it was asking for updates then once the updates were complete nothing on the keyboard were working again
I don't know whats wrong with it

Answer:The keyboard and the TouchPad stopped working!

Hi, Rabbitvix

I haven't experienced this issue, but the fact that the keyboard works in BIOS but not in the OS indicates a software issue, not hardware. I would recommend booting the machine in Safe Mode to see if this helps. If the TouchPad and the keyboard resume functioning in Safe Mode, then we may be able to solve this issue by removing a driver.

To boot into Safe Mode in Windows Vista:

Start the computer from cold boot.
When the splash screen appears (says "Lenovo) being tapping F8 repeatedly.
Continue tapping F8 until a menu appears.
Select Safe Mode.
Hit Enter.
The computer should now boot to Safe Mode.

Also, one final question: If you plug in an external mouse, does this function well, or does it experience problems as well?

Best of luck,

My keyboard and touchpad suddenly stopped working on my Levnovo Z570. I have restarted several times  and each time, an error pops up that says "01011001 keyboard stuck key" and then the system boots normally. However, I cannot use my keyboard or touchpad. I have checked on the drivers in the device manager and it seems that they don't show up there. Under Mouse and other pointers, my HDI Compatble USB mouse shows up (and stiil works, thank goodness) but there is no device listed for my touchpad. Under keyboards, all that shows up is "PS/2 Keyboard" and my regular keyboard device is missing. (not even sure what PS/2 is)I have also tried booting into safe mode and the keyboard still does not work there. Can anyone help on this at all?

Answer:Z570 keyboard and touchpad not working

I have also this problem, but when I press some button my kayboard work a moment. I don't know what I should do, so please help

Answer:Z500 touchpad not working while using the keyboard. Please help me please !!!!

hi Xavier_Lenovo,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If your Z500 came with a Synaptics Touchpad, can you try to:

1. Go to the Control Panel (large icon view) then > click Mouse > Device Settings tab > Settings
2. Under the Synaptics Settings, go to Pointing > Sensitivity > Palmcheck and set the palm sensitivity to minimum and test the game.

Let me know your findings.

Hi everyone. Yesterday, my Asus Q550L laptop completed a Win 10 auto update. I restarted my laptop as instructed and when my system rebooted, the keyboard and touchpad would not respond. It wouldn't let me login to Win 10 and even seemed like it was not responding while Windows was booting up. I finally was able to gain access my using the onscreen keyboard via touchscreen. I use an external Microsoft mouse, and that still seems to work okay. I looked in the device manager and both my touchpad and keyboard drivers have exclamation marks on them. I tried updating the driver, but it said they were the newest/best available. I tried deleting the driver and letting windows rediscover them, but got the same result. I refuse to believe the the keyboard and touchpad took a dump at the exact same time, so this has to be related to Windows 10 right? Any help/advice is welcome and thanks in advance!

Answer:Windows 10 keyboard and touchpad not working

Ditto.
Using my phone right now.
Uninstalling Asus Smart Gesture then installing the new one provided by Ivan FR (Google search: asus windows 10 ivan fr) fixed it, but then I noticed my audio driver has an error now, I restarted and all said errors were back. ?
Redoing the method doesn't work.
Guess we'll have to wait for a fix from MS itself
Btw, my lappy's Asus too, X55LN.
First time I ever had a bug with Win10.
Very disappointed right now.
Finally, bump.

Problem: computer starts up normally and goes to the password log-in screen, but nothing happens when I try to enter the password. The computer doesn't appear to see any keystrokes.
Solutions tried:

rebootedremoved and replaced main batteryattached USB keyboardhit Enter key on startup: successful in opening the Advance Options menu, but am unable to take any of the actions because all require that I enter the laptop passwordlooked for an onscreen keyboard, but there isn't one because this isn't a touch screen computer
Why I think this is a Windows issue:

the computer recognizes when I hit the Enter key on startupthe USB keyboard doesn?t workthe keyboard touchpad doesn?t work, but the attached USB mouse DOES work

This problem is with my husband's IBM ThinkPad T43. This was a work computer but the company closed down & let him keep his computer (minus all the software disks). This problem I'm experiencing happened because of my stupidity. I was cleaning up the programs loading in the Startup Menu and unchecked several that appeared to be unneeded items. I also removed a file (which is now in the Recycle Bin because our new Kaspersky security program listed it as a keylogger. Now when I reboot, the keyboard & touchpad or mouse won't work when I reach the Control Alt Delete area to move forward into Windows. If I could get in, and use the keyboard, I would just put everything back the way it was, but I've spent days looking on the internet for a way to fix this and have been totally unsuccessful in finding anything that addresses my specific problem.

Please help!

Thank you,
Isabella Rose

hey all, I have a problem with my lenovo U31-70 with windows 10. After the most recent windows 10 update, i am having the issues that the laptop takes a very long time to start up (~10 min) and that when it finally starts up, it gives two error messages about alps.exe. The touchpad and Keyboard do not work when it has finally started up. This problem was also described in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Keyboard-issues-U31-70/m-p/2232732#M432.... However, the solution described there does not work for me, as when doing the BIOS update I receive the error that the veriosn fo the ROM file is the same as in the BIOS. I also tried reinstalling Windows 10 and reinstalling the touchpad/keyboard driver through the official Lenovo website. (I have had this problem several times before, however it went away every time by updating the BIOS through the Lenovo website. This time, this solution does not work.) Any thoughts as to how to fix this problem?

I already updated the drivers to try to fix, didn't work.Under computer propersties>hardware, it shows up as Synaptics PS/2 port toucnpad, with the image of a mouse on the left, if that helps at all. We have a strange problem with a customer's ThinkPad T560.Neither keyboard, touchpad nor USB (keyboard, mouse, HDD) are working.USB keyboard and mouse are not getting any power, USB harddrive gets power but is not recognized (nothing happens in Windows).  I have tried the various startup alternatives such as safe mode etc - same problem. The only thing that IS working, are the media keys on the internal keyboard. It responds to Open Explorer, switch apps, brightness and wireless switch... but nothing else. I have tried a system restore to a previous point - which works until a restart, then it's the same thing. Running out of restore points. I am getting a bit frustrated with this - are there any solutions to this problem? I have also tried upgrading to Windows 10 (assistive upgrade) but it fails (of course...). I saw someone mentioning uninstalling McAfee, but since I do not have McAfee installed - nor can I even operate the computer... I'm out of options. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks! /Forsberg

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to control panel, uninstall "Launch Manager" in Programs, download from here and re-install it:
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
Try different drivers for synaptics, for example, Acer Aspire E1-572 Synaptics Touchpad Driver 17.0.6.13 for Windows 8.1 64-bit Drivers download - Synaptics Software Update
EDIT:
If you find ETD Ware in Programs, right click and uninstall it, that's your Elantech but I couldn't see it in your Device manager.

Answer:Laptop keyboard and touchpad not working on windows 10. Please help

Hi Ronalzhe. Welcome to the TenForums @Ronalzhe.

First I'm going to recommend unplug your laptop, remove the battery, hold the power button down 25 secs, unplug all USB devices. Let it sit five minutes. Reassemble, do not plug in any USB devices. Boot.

If that doesn't work then you could try Advance Startup options. To get this power up computer, when you start to see the circle of dots press and hold power button down until laptop powers off. Power up and when the circle of dots appear again hold the power button until it powers down. On the third pass it let it boot.

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

Hopefully at this point your mouse will work and you can click trouble shooting, then Advance options. At this point I would try a System Restore. If mouse isn't working there are the arrow keys but that doesn't help much if keyboard is dead.

You sound familiar with device, you could go to Safe mode but if keyboard isn't working there will be an issue. If on any screen you see the Ease of access icon you could click on that to get onscreen keyboard but that assumes external mouse is being responsive.

Please post back.

Hey there,

A friend was recently the victim of one of the 'Windows Service' scams and gave me his laptop to check they hadn't installed any malware on it. Thankfully they hadn't, but in the process of looking over his computer, I discovered he hadn't installed any Windows updates in the last 3 years. I've since installed all of these (about 200 files and two service packs) but now I have a slight issue in that neither the keyboard nor the trackpad works (at all). They were both working fine before the update, but now the computer doesn't even register them as input.

I've been trying to figure out why they're not working. I've plugged in a wireless keyboard/mouse combo and that works fine. For now, I'm remote desktop controlling the laptop via my iPad so that my own PC is free to use. I think it's a driver problem, but I just can't seem to figure out how to get it to work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Will post TSG Sysinfo in next post:

I am unable to use my laptop's touchpad and keyboard. Even my mouse is operational only when the windows is loaded. Meaning, during the booting time when i wish to change the booting option, at that time i am unable to use even my mouse. Which otherwise is the only outside device used via usb port. Earlier there was issue of BIOS application, which was corrupted, which not is visible when i just boot, meaning thereby, the button namely f1 or f8 is operation at the time of booting, but unable to do any change in the booting options which are visible when i just boot my laptop. Though with the help of USB i am able to work on my externally attached keyboard. What should be done to cure this issue this is persistently bothering me for last 15 days. I am unable to make my laptop's touchpad and keyboard operational. 1 thing more only Tab is operational and opening and closing bracket keys work that is it. And as i said now only f1 or f8 works during the booting, nothing else. Please get me out of this trouble. I've trying for many days. But unable to get rid of this issue.

I bought this laptop last december and there was nearly no problem (everything was working fine) about it until recently. I always use it only at home with a keyboard and mouse attached to it because of what I do and I find it easy not using the touchpad and keyboard of the laptop. I only use them occationally. Recently I brought it with me and I was surprised neither the keyboard or the touchpad is not working. I searched the forums and I cannot find any posts that was the same as my case. I also searched drivers for both and installed them but nothing happened. When I installed the driver for my touchpad it said that there was no driver to be updated. I looked to my control panel then in the mouse properties, and the synaptics pointing device isn't there anymore. There I started to think that it's a hardware problem. I'm wondering why is it a hardware problem as I rarely use them. Now I could still use my laptop normally with a keyboard and mouse attached. I really need to get this fixed as soon as possible because I'm going to need it for school. If it's not fixed here then I'm probably going to a service center to report about the issue. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

Hi Dyisi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad device is not detected in your computer even after trying to re-install its driver. Hence, the only available option to confirm if the issue is hardware related by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Installation).

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

Hope to hear back soon

Best Regards

Hello all, I have a problem with my laptop. As you can see in the title, the keyboard and touch pad do not work in safe mode. However, they both work when I start up my laptop normally. I just want to get into safe mode to scan and fix errors.
It has been like that for a while now, I have been researching about it, but I can't find anything that might help my situation.
USB keyboard and mouse help, but I don't want to plug them in every time I want to go on safe mode. I don't know how to fix it.
I must warn you, that I know nothing about computers. I am running Windows Vista, if that helps. I don't know what to put up exactly. . So if you could help me, tell me what to put up, if you want more details about my system, It would help if you could tell me where I could find more specific details about my computer. Forgive me, If I sound stupid, lol.

Hello I bought a Lenovo E51-80 for my mother in law a few weeks ago.  I updated the Drivers and Windows, removed some of the Levono software, installed various software and then following the install iTunes and iCloud, then restarted, and the Keyboard and Touchpad stopped responding, apart from the Brightness Hotkeys and another Hotkey. When I put the PC into Safe Mode, the keyboard worked fine, but when I booted into Windows again it didn't.  I also tried Bios, but there wasn't any options relating the Keyboard and Touchpad.  I then did a System Restore to a point before I installed iTunes and this got it working again. It has since happened again a number of times, and I though it might have been a Windows Patch or something I installed, but I'm not so sure now and it seems to happen following a restart, and more frequently following a install and restart. I have also reinstalling the Driver for the Lenovo pointing device, but this didn't work, and each time, the system restore gets the Keyboard and Touchpad working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do the other USB devices work?

Ensure that all the drivers are the latest version, especially for the chipset (motherboard) driver and the update for BIOS.

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

A couple weeks ago while using my laptop, the keyboard and mouse pad suddenly froze up/lost power. No response to usb ports or cd drive. The screen stayed on, fan, power, even wifi connection stayed on, but couldn't get anything moving. The power button didn't respond so I had to unplug power and remove battery to shut it down. Worked fine after I restarted it.

Now, the same thing just happened again, on a DIFFERENT laptop with a different OS, browser, everything.

WTH?

Thanks

KEYBOARD QUIT WORKING not immediately after win 10 upgrade from 8, but after some time. This is a relatively recent problem. I went and bought a replacement keyboard thinking mine haid broken somehow. The brand new replacement part does not function either. I am speculating that an automatic update may have caused this problem. The computer may have went into hibernation before but has been rebooted since. I do not know if the hibernation causes a permanent keyboard problem I just heard it may cause one. I attempted hard reset to no avail The TOUCHPAD STILL WORKS. G6 model g6-1d67cl / PN: A6Y42UA I am now forced to use a wireless external keyboard but would prefer a solution to the problem other than the on screen keyboard.

Hi Mpchell,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad and Keyboard is not working as expected even after performing all the possible troubleshooting steps. Hence, the only available option to check if the issue is hardware related is by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) using OKR (One Key Recovery).

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

If the issue persists, I would strongly suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Hello, This was originally a thread about a different problem, but now that's fixed, and I'm having this problem. My laptop's keyboard and touchpad are not registering anything I do. Luckily I can plug in a USB mouse and keyboard for the time being, but I would very much like to get this fixed. I tried taking out the battery and AC adapter, and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, and that didn't seem to help. I also checked to see if the drivers were up to date, and they are. If anyone knows anything I can do, please elet me know.  Thank you

i uninstalled a media player and Total security antivirus, then used the laptop for two hoursand attempted to restart. Here started the problem, windows login screen appeared, i tried to login but keyboard and mouse are not responding i restarted many times by swicthing the laptop off by holding the power button, but the result is same. then tried changing the boot startup settings to default then too same result. what i observed is that keyboard as well as touchpad respond well during boot operations such asEsc key for start menu then F2,F7,F10 and F12 key for respective actions. but they do not work after windows OS starts. It means i cannot use the laptop for any other actions other than Power OFF and ON  hope u will help methank you

Hello I have this Lenovo Y500 laptop, but when I press on the keyboard, I can't use the touchpad at the same time. That means when I play games (like WoW) or use Photoshop, I can't do it properly, as I can't use them simultaneously. I can only use one of the 2 things, but never simultaneously. I've tried a new touchpad driver, but it didn't work. Still the same issue.

I have a just over one year old (~14 months) Dell Inspiron 17 laptop with Win 8.1 (no touch) and of course it's out of warranty. The mouse simply stopped working, no cursor. I was able to use the touchpad but then that quit too in quick order.
I spent hours searching here and the interweb looking for possible fixes, so far no luck.
The worst of the issue is now I can't get past the splash screen to the login screen to access the repair/restore functions in Windows.
How do I access these when I can't even login to the computer?

Answer:Mouse stopped working, then touchpad, then keyboard

I called Dell and they want almost $300 to send it back so they can 'look at it'!
Any thoughts or suggestions to solve this issue?

Hi,

I have a M600 (PPM60A), I recently did an upgrade from Vista to Win 7 (not a clean upgrade), some time (? A week??) after the requisite online updates, the keyboard & touchpad stopped working, when connected to docking station.

All is well using an external keyboard & wireless mouse.
I have tried "F9", even trying to reload the Synaptics Touchpad drivers from TOshiba website - it gives the message - Syn TP.... Install Failed.

Does anyone have any suggestions or do I now own a "low power desktop!!"

Did you test the notebook without docking station?
How about new OS installation? Did you test if the keyboard and touchpad will work after new recovering?
Do this!

PS: the Portege M600 is not ?low power? notebook? it?s a business class notebook and belongs to a ?better? notebook series?.

Unfortunately, you did not include the "partnumber" of your laptop. It should be on the laptop and start with "PSAE"

I could find out more and advise you better with that partnumber.

Hi

My netbook is a Samsung n145plus and has 8.1 installed with all updates. (even if it's not officially supported but it works amazingly fine)

I've installed the officia Samsung Elan touchpad driver as it seemed to work fine (it's for Win 7) except when scrolling with the edge of the pad because a Elan window appears on the taskbar and was annoying so I installed a newer driver but for a gateway laptop it installed fine but it wasn't detected by Elan in control panel so I removed it.

Now both the keyboard and touchpad stopped working and Windows says code 19 for keyboard and code 10 for touchpad. A USB mouse works fine. I've reinstalled both with Device Manager without success. Now the netbook is almost useless
Thanks

Answer:Netbook keyboard and touchpad stopped working

Reinstalled twice the Elan driver and now both it and keyboard work I don't know what does the KB have to do with the touchpad...
Now I will try to fix the aforementioned bug when edge scrolling

Hi there,

I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.

Hi! I have an Ideapad Z560. All of a sudden both keyboard and Synaptic touchpad stopped working. I restored the laptop to the original image and updated all drivers from Lenovo first and from Synaptic later; then I replaced the keyboard with a spare I had, then I opened the laptop and reattached all cables to make sure there are no loose cables.Nothing worked. What's interesting is that both the touchpad and keyboard report themselves as attached to PS/2 port.Is it normal? What else can I do? What else can cause the issue?I'd like to replace the touchpad but I cannot find the part anywhere. Is it available from Lenovo? Are there any generic ones? I've been searching using "Ideapad Z560 touchpad for sale" and "Synaptic touchpad for sale". Many thanks in advance,

The title says it all. Also, if I am at the wrong section please do move it sirs.
More details:

Windows Vista (from HP)

In POST, I can select the buttons for the menu ie. boot options, bios menu, etc. BUT when I go in the menu I can't do anything. I can't select another menu tab, even pressing right/left/up/down won't do any good. The only thing left to do is turn off the laptop by holding the power button.

The boot selection always comes up whenever I open the laptop (safe mode, start windows normally, etc.) (because I can't turn it off via clicking, I hold the power button). Whenever it comes out, I CAN navigate by pressing up and down and hitting enter to select a choice.

It will load windows but when it comes to the login screen, I can't use mouse and keyboard so I can type my password. I can't do anything. Only thing left to do is hold the power button.

How can I overcome this problem?
I think it's software related because there's a time that I can use the keyboard but how? Windows doesn't give me a chance to login and search for any problems.

Edit: I also tried to boot a Windows 7 dvd to try the keyboard if it is working in that environment but no success.

The touchpad stopped working after the first month, and the keyboard works off and on, right now it's mostly off. I have unchecked the filter keys. The laptop is just over 1 year old and has been working ok until recently.

First symptoms were keyboard and touchpad not working at windows 8 login page. Pressing power to put laptop in sleep and pressing again often got them working.

This progressed to the keyboard and touchpad not working at random points whilst using the laptop.

Finally blanked the HDD and restored windows 8 alone, the laptop still BSOD's fairly frequently - refuses to install updates required for 8.1 and the keyboard and mouse often do not work even in the BIOS setup page. I have reseated the RAM and HDD.

Running out of ideas, the keyboard and touchpad do work and so I would assume that their connections are OK - but frequently they just stop.

Any ideas appreciated?

Thanks

Help, this laptop is driving me to dispair. Randomly after a few minutes or so, the keyboard, touchpad and touchscreen all stop working properly.  I try to left click and it responds as though I had right clicked.  I try to type with the keyboard and instead of typing it does random things such as opening a new window or trying to download a link.  Same thing if I try to use the touchscreen.  The only thing I can do is restart the laptop and it will be ok again for a while then it all starts again. I have done a refresh of Windows 8.1 and this has not helped.  I have also checked for viruses and malware and found nothing. Any ideas anyone??????

Answer:Keyboard, touchscreen and touchpad all not working on U330T

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problems you are having.

The refresh of Windows should have corrected any driver issues.  You could go a step further and do a One Key Recovery that will totally erase and restore Windows back to its new out of the box condition.  The downside to One Key is that it will erase all your personal files and any software you had installed since the computer was new.  So you will have to do a back of your files and reinstall of the software.  You will also have to do all the Windows Updates that were released since your computer was new.  A lot of work for sure, but it will rule out the problem as being related to the operating system.  Page #23 of your model's User Guide explains how to do the One Key Recovery if that is a consideration.  Here is a link to that guide.....

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/desktop_pub/lenovo_h50_hmm_20140715.pdf

If the One Key Recovery didn't resolve the problem then it is most likely a hardware issue.  I would suggest that you contact Lenovo Support for additional assistance especially if your warranty is still active.

This is a new Lenovo twist S230u 3347-4hu. The only way I got the trackpad mouse to work is by loading Synaptics 16.2.15.0 driver. Otherwise the touchpad mouse would not respond. Now - and before I changed the driver - what happens is after a keyboard key is pressed, the onscreen keyboard will not work. It tries to open then immedialtely closes and the volume control automatically goes to zero as if a key were being pressed to lower the volume. A volume control appears on the top left of the screen. This happens in notebook and tablet modes and only after a keyboard key is pressed.I have reset the system to oob defaults with no luck. I also updated  the BIOS.I noticed that the older Synaptics driver does not have full gesture controls. (Don't know if that matters)I never lose touchpad mouse functionality with the older driver.Restarting the unit brings everything back to normal - even can set the volume control - until a keyboard key is pressed. When I restart I can use the onscreen keyboard without any problems.Once the problem happens, I cannot remove the onscreen volume control and I cannot use the onscreen keyboard. If I install the original touchpad driver, I lose the mouse too.

Answer:Twist touchpad not working after a keyboard key is pressed

Hi ggmoon52,

How long have you had your twist and how long has this problem been going on?

You said the touchpad does not malfunction with older drivers.
Meaning after you get the touchpad operational the onscreen keyboard and volume malfunctions...right?

What BIOS and UltraNav versions are you running?

Here is a link to the latest Synaptic driver version 16.2.19.2

Restore back to factory settings, then update the driver to this version.
If unsuccessful, update BIOS to 1.07 then update UltraNav.
Try that and lets see how that works.

Satellite C660-28H

Win7 64bit

antivirus Kaskpersky deleted "system32/driver/cekbfilter.sys" file for keylogger reason (Kaspersky Support said It is mistake of Kaspersky antivirus, file is not virus or virused), and after I restart OS I find keyboard and touchpad not working at all.

Also I already asked about this at [US Toshiba Forum|http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/satellite-c660-cekbfilter-sys-deleted-and-no-keyboard/td-p/364673] and there was advise to ask here too

I can not use Windows recovery (do not have recovery point) , and I do not want to do full recovery to factory default - there are many soft and personal data stored.

So Is here way to recover drivers? As I already said at US Toshiba Forum - I already tryed delete touch pad driver and instal from Synaptic official website, and I not changed anything.

Also I think antivirus may delete not only file, but do some fixes to remove "wrone" driver

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - keyboard and touchpad are not working

Huh it is very stupid situation now. I never had such problems but it will be interesting to find solution to this.

Have you tried to connect external mouse, just to see if this can work? I mean it is much easier to use windows with mouse and choose different options.

If this works try to open device manager and properties for keyboard. There you can find option for driver update. Check if some driver update can be found. Fact is that keyboard uses standard Microsoft driver so f you are online maybe some driver can be found.

Of course best and easiest solution for you is recovery installation. If you don?t want to do this try to find right drivers using such driver update option.

One more thing: if you have so important stuff saved on HDD you can remove it from your notebook and connect it to other PC/notebook as external device and make backup. After doing this you can install recovery image and problem is solved.
