How can I backup and recover BitLocker drive if using Acronis?

Question: How can I backup and recover BitLocker drive if using Acronis?

Hello windows seven,

I was thinking for this...

Local Disk C --> either bitlocker encrypted or unencrypted.
Local Disk D --> bitlocker encrypted partition and a space for backup

How can I backup and recover if using Acronis?

Preferred Solution: How can I backup and recover BitLocker drive if using Acronis?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have looked at Acronis True Image and was going to get it but the reviews on Amazon are horrendous what are users opinions on the forum about this product and would Norton ghost be a better alternative as I want something which is simple to use click hereAny help would be appreciated

Answer:Acronis True Image 2011:PC Backup and Recover

I have no idea why those comments are so adverse, for me Acronis is without a doubt the best, most reliable life saver I have.I have heard about the comments on Amazon before, I don't think there are many if any on this forum who would be negative.

Hello,
I accidently formatted one of my drives which was previously encrypted.
I tried some third party software as "recover my file" but it didn't work.
Later then, I experimented on a formatted (not encrypted before) usb drive to recover files by same software and it did work.
After that, I encrypted the usb drive and then formatted it. Then I tried to recover by same software, but it didn't work. So, it's apparent that it is not possible to recover from a encrypted and formatted drive by a usual recovery software. Is there any
other method that can help me.
Please inform, I'm in a dire need.
Thanks.

I need advices about how can I solve my issue:

I have an external drive. I started the encryption drive with bitlocker, during encryption process,
the drive has been disconnected so I wasn?t able to continue the encryption process.

Now, the drive is partially encrypted. When I want to access the drive, I got the error message
?Encryption Failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion?.

I would like a procedure to recover the remaining data: encrypted and non encrypted

I used M3 Bitlocker Recovery but the tool freezes, I am currently trying TestDisk 7.0. Analysis
is in progress.

You'll find attached screenshots and detailed description of the situation.

I have the passwords & recovery keys

Hello Dears. I had encrypted my drive by Bitlocker in windows 7.
few days after my friend did quick format in my encrypted drive.
my 300 gb of data lost. and nothing saved
i remember unlock password.
how can i recover my data ??? i need my data
i tried drive recovering tools (advanced EFS data recovery, easeus . . ,) . but . . . it's encrypted and formatted drive.
can i undo quick format and decrypt ???
sorry my english is not good.
someone help me please.

Answer:Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files.Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.

As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

I have my SSD drive C: backed up on a 3TB second drive.
I tried to fresh install Win 7 64b but my SSD drive is stuck. I used diskpart (all the commands) to wipe it off so I can install Win 7. I think it's protected by Acronis software, because windows installations fails over and over.
My second option was to plug both drives SSD C: and the 3TB HDD where my recovery folder is.
The problem !!! is that I can't get to that recovery folder on the second drive to restore the SSD C:.
I do have Acronis Recovery DVD but that is doing nothing.
My question is how to get to that Acronis folder and restore drive C, or how to wipe drive C so Windows 7 will install without telling me that it cannot create a new partition for installation.
Thank YOU!
Any Ideas?????

I plugged the win dvd and the acronis at the same time. Looks like it's spinning.

Hi!
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise with Bitlocker.
Unfortunately I ran into problems booting up and eventually it looked like the harddrive (SSD) was malfunctioning. My backup solution was fresh so I haven't given it much thought, just replaced the drive, but I would still like to know if it's possible to
recover data from the drive while it's encrypted with Bitlocker?
I have searched the net for info but none of them seem to focus on my problem; the drive itself shows no volume information, so I'm unable to run any decryption protocols on it. Therefore I'm unable to run any recovery software on it either.
I'm afraid I might've made the situation worse with my attempts at recovery, but still, any help is appreciated!

Best Regards,
Heini

Hi
I'm running Win 10 Pro version 1607 (OS Build 14393.321), and I have a weird problem with my 298 GB WD in 2.5? SATA enclosure external hard drive. I have used it several times in the past to backup Windows 7 & 10, but now I can use it to backup Win 7 only not Win 10! I believe this problem may have started after I performed a quick format on it using a Win 10 machine, and also ran CHKDSK /R in order to mark the bad sectors.
Now when I use it to backup my Win 10 machine, backup fails with error 0x8031004A: "BitLocker Drive Encryption cannot be used because critical BitLocker system files are missing or corrupted. Use Windows Startup Repair to restore these files to your computer." Also if I click on manage space it gives an error ?The backup location is not connected? even though it is connected and accessible (even shown in the backup page itself)!

Another weird issue, if I try to scan the drive from the Tools tab in Properties, scan fails with this error: ?
Windows was unable to scan the drive?, and the event viewer report shows:
"Checking file system on E:
The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation.
A snapshot error occured while scanning this drive. You can try again, but if this problem persists, run an offline scan and fix."
But if I chose Scan and Repair, it runs successfully and reports: ?Windows successfully scanned the drive. No errors were found.?
Windows Startup Repair does... Read more

I've been having trouble with my laptop lately - it is slow, the hard drive failed to back up to an external drive and it is not up to the standard it was. I've run all the usual utility programs and ultimately did a Repair in XP in the hope that this would improve matters, but it has only made it more sluggish. Also when attempting to back up using Acronis I got the message on three occasions that no hard drives could be recognised and when I did get it going, the back up failed as it was unable to read certain sections of hard disk. I eventually got round this by staying with the laptop while backing up to enable me to press the "ignore all" button - but I fear that the backup may not be 100%. My question is, if I reformat the hard drive and then restore through the externally backed up Acronis might this improve matters or am I likely to be left with the same problem in view of what has gone on before. I don't fancy doing a clean install of XP and all the work that will be involved.

Answer:Hard Drive-Backup-reformat-Acronis

Your first port of callis, Desktop double click My Computer Right Click on C:\ choose tools check disc tick the box to auto fix faults then restart computer for it to check the disc. If you have a full XP disc, That you used to run Repair, put it in the drive after disc check and from run box Type SFC /SCANNOW and run the program to look for corrupt files

Acronis True Image 6.0 is supposed to be able to write directly to removable media, including DVD+RW, and even states it in the user guide.

However, when I attempt to do so, I receive the following error message: "Failed to write to image archive file. A possible reason could be poor media quality."

I don't think the discs are faulty - I've tried this with 2 types of major brand name DVDs write out of the shrink wrap.

The user interface is fairly simple, so I don't believe I've overlooked any significant steps......anyone else out there have similar problems with this software?

Thanx

Hi all.

I have been using Acronis True Image to do scheduled daily incremental backups of my system, but now it's stopped functioning and tells me the hard drive is full.

I've been backing up to an external hard drive (mobile desk) of 160GB.

The first backup I made was a full one of about 35GB.

I can't understand how incremental backups can use up so much hard disk space. I thought incremental backups only backup any changes or additions to files already backed up. These incremental daily backups have been taking about 30 minutes to complete every day -- which seems a little long to me.

I'm mystified by this turn of events.

What are my options? Wipe out the entire external hard drive and start again?

Thanks for any help with this.

Answer:Acronis Backup Stopped Due To Full Hard Drive...

You've discovered the downside of using an imaging tool as a backup tool - the amount of storage required! Things change constantly inside of Windows, and most of the changes are unseen and are within the largest directories on most systems. You can run this free program to get an idea of all the stuff that's going on: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...essmonitor.mspx These changes will keep the size of the incremental backups large, and 30 minutes is about the right time to make an image.I would suggest saving the original image, deleting the incremental images, and creating a new image as of this date. Then, limit yourself to a certain number of images in case of disaster. I used to keep several, but now only keep one image with everything that I consider essential on my system. Then, do your backups separately. I'm not familiar with the Acronis backup tool (having used SyncBackSE for many years) - but only backup the data files that you can't replace. Back them up daily and they'll take less space than an image will.

I have purchased Acronis 11 after noting comments in respect of backup software. I have been for some five years using Norton Ghost to creating images of my 'C' drive and have on a number of occasions needed to use those images to replace the existing setup. I have found using Acronis on my old PC with 18Gb being used on the 'C' drive that when creating the image to an internal disk that at the outset it stated some 20 minutes to create the image. I have carried out the same exercise several times including verification of backup and have reinstated that backup to ensure that Acronis works. However every time I try to create an image to an external drive I am faced with the prospect of a two hour duration. Am I missing something.

Answer:Acronis backup of 18Gb to external drive 2 hours?

You could run defrag and chkdsk on the external drive.Have you checked for errors in device manager for the USB drivers. If the drive is empty, what not reformat it,is it formatted to NTFS.

I used Acronis true image 2010 to back up the OS image for my X200T. Before hard drive partition, I can restore the image to X200 without problems, everything works fine. Since I have the Acronis backup image, I thought I donot need the factory recovery image and hard drive partition any more so I formatted the hard drive. Now I have two partitions on my drive (C and D). After I restored the Acronis image to C, the PC won't boot. it says "BOOTMGR is missing". Any ideas? If it does not work, I want to extract the Vista activation information from the Acronis image so I can reinstall vista and restore the activation. Is it possible? Many thanks,

Answer:Acronis backup image won't work after hard drive partition (x200T)

Hello everybody.

I had a problem after uninstalling O&O Defrag using Revo uninstaller. My system became unstable, I tried system restore, tried to recover my system from the recovery partition, and a set of recovery CD's, all to no avail.

Someone suggested that I use Artellos ARCDS recovery CD. It made one pass then stopped working. I was advised that I would need to get a Windows XP Pro Media Center CD (2600 build) and run that. As of now I have no way to get that CD.

However, what I do have is a verified recovery DVD and 4 Hard disk backups all created on 02-06-10 using Paragon Drive Backup Pro 9.0

My problem is that I don't know how to use these DVD's, and want to avoid further damaging my PC.

I already booted the PC with the recovery and the #1 DVD, however, there are too many choices that I'm unfamiliar with and loath to try.

There is a simple restore wizard, which seems like the one i should use, however I'm not sure how to proceed from there.

If anyone here is familiar with Paragon 9.0 Pro, could you please advise me on how to proceed.

Thank you in advance for any time you spend on my behalf.

Hi, until recently I had an XP PC with a single main OS IDE HD. To backup I performed monthly an Acronis clone to an identical 2nd IDE HD that I bought for this purpose. Easy.
Now I have a Win7 PC with two identical SSD's in RAID0 as main OS drive and a 2nd internal HD. I would like to perform a backup of this system so that I can later restore it to any HD configuration I choose (for example a single SSD, or a single HD, etc). Is this possible or the restore will need to be done to the same original configuration (two SSD's in RAID0+2nd int HD)? What would be the simplest software that will accomplish this? Thanks for your suggestions

Answer:Backup RAID0/Recover to new drive/Need advice

Hello Antares,

It doesn't matter if they are in RAID or single so long as they are large enough to restore the image to.

RAID is treated just like any single drive, but you would just need to have RAID setup how you like before restoring the clone to it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I must have been lapsing in concentration on Friday. I was restoring an image from a backup drive partition and stupidly pulled the power supply for that drive thinking it was the printer. (I know - don't grin like that!)
The upshot is that the NTFS partition became unallocated. About 350Gb. Any tried and tested solutions or am I resigned to reconstructing the backups as best I can? It's impossible to replicate some of the material on there anyway.
I have tried Recuva which is hopelessy inadequate although it found some picture files and reported that the they had not been overwritten.

Have a look at Testdisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk I have used it in the past to recover data from a wrongly formatted partition.

At first, I don't need to recover my data, I just want my drive back to re-use it.
How can a format my usb drive including all boot sectors which sees to be locked/write-protected by bitlocker?

My problem starts with decrypting my drive by deactivting bitlocker on it by entering the valid password/recovery key. At 36% of decryption the process halts without reason. Now, I'm unable to access my drive or resume the process.

I tried...
    ...to format with windows
   ..remove with diskmgmt
   ... remove with diskpart
   ... repair-bde
   ... manage-bde
   ... ubuntu live cd
... mass production tool software, to override the whole stick

nothing worked. The only thing which worked was once the software M3 Bitlocker recovery Free, but just one time to access the locked partition. But, as mentioned I don't need to recover my data. With that tool I'm not able to wipe the drive.

That Bitlocker protects my data till the end is good, but that it breaks my data and my hardware in such a case is not fair.
How can I break the write-protection mode to finally wipe the hard drive?

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

Answer:Bitlocker enabled drive, recovery key needed during boot, PCS did not match, event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

You need to restore the Full backup and then the incrementals taken in the period until and including the most recent. The program should prompt you for the files.

I'm surprised though that even on OLD hardware a backup takes many hours -- Have you separated your OS on to its own partition separate from your data. I'd ALWAYS recommend having the OS and pgms on a separate partition or HD (like an SSD) and the rest of your data such as music etc spread out elsewhere.

Then your OS backup won't take long -- you would need at the most 30 mins - and for your DATA you could back up parts at different times - especially for things like Music files that I don't suppose change much apart from possibly adding new files.

Windows 10 Pro 64 bitAcronis Backup 12

I am curious if there is any advantage of using a commercial backup software when we already have Windows 10 Backup. I am not using sophisticated features or elaborate configurations. Instead, I want to have peace of mind knowing that I can backup my computer on a daily or weekly basis.

I have been a long time user of Acronis True Image for Home and then more recently Acronis Backup. I am comfortable with the software and have my backups. I am wondering, though, using Windows Backup would be an equally good or better choice? Does anyone have any thoughts or reasons why one method is superior to the other?

Hello,
my laptop has freezed, I restart it with power button but now, at start up, BitLocker said that:

You need to enter your recovery key because Secure Boot has been disabled. Either Secure Boot must be re-enabled, or BitLocker must be suspended for Windows to start normally.

I gone to UEFI settings and define a password to re-enabled Secure Boot but BitLocker when I restart comptuer said that Bios secure parameters has changed... It doesn't solve the problem.

The problem is I don't have my recovery key. I tried to recover my recovery key using Microsoft account but I had to update my phone number and so my security settings are locked for one month. My question is :
Is it possible to boot on Ubuntu USB key or plug HDD to an Ubuntu computer, copy files and decrypt them one by one with my password session ?Is it possible to retrieve my recovery key using Windows command line and session password ? (I can access to Windows recovery menu so I have access to commands line.)Is a program to decrypt completely my hard drive exists ? I will write it on a USB key, start it, enter my session password and it will decrypt all the disk or something like that.
Thanks a lot.

Answer:How can I recover my BitLocker recovery key

What do you mean by "session password?"

Assuming you are using a TPM with BitLocker (which is the default) then there is no way to recover your drive without the recovery key. That is the entire point of BitLocker.

Hi,

How can i recover SSD with bitlocker active? When i put the SSD disk plugged in another machine with external adapter, i can see the disk but with RAW format. I have the recovery key but when i use the recover software (example EASEUS) i cannot see any field to put my recovery key and i cannot see any important files to recover because the drive has encripted.

Hi guys, new to forum and first post. I will be as brief and to the point as possible. A few months back I had a bit of trouble with my Dell 2350, computer guy offered a disk that would upgrade a XP Home sp 2 to a sp 3. I took the option installed the upgrade and was prompted to register the software; it failed the test for registration... the computer guy by this time had disappeared to another shop miles away. After the time expiry date the computer timed out and shut me out of the log in process. (I think the computer guy was trying to sell me software in a round about way) I reformatted the drive to get rid of the lock out system and put a Linux system on it. Left the computer as was very busy and used another computer. THE GOOD NEWS HOPEFULLY. I backed up the Dell 2350 data on (a) three CD-Rs. Two bootable disks , one full version (66.09MB ), and one Safe Version (40.81 MB), and a Acronis System Report (37.09 MB)
I made another set of backups with Acronis installed these are DVD-RW 4.7 Gb Vol 1 and 2 backup, C Drive and a backup Fat 16 disc. I think this backup is the whole system.
(A) Is there any chance of getting this system back onto the original computer?
(Dell 2350) where it came from?
(b) Can I recover files, programs from these disks?

Circumstances have changed Iam now in a position ,and have time to give this issue my attention.

I had a drive that was encrypted with bitlocker. After changing the drive and restart I noticed there were only two of the drives that on them Windows installed and another drives changed to free space.
Bitlocker encrypted drive was 100G and another drive 244G. Drives I converted to a drive then format it to restore my data. All the information was not encrypted, was returned but encrypted data was not returned even one bit. I changed the size of D to 200 GB again and after a lot of searching I found the repair-bde command.

Hi all
I know a lot use Acronis backup -- I've been using it for ages and never had a problem with it

However there is a defect (actually missing feature) in it that has a serious implication for Winsows 7 Users.

1) Say you have define a picture library.
2) imagine in the pictures library the folders are defined similarly as follows d:\pics1, e:\pics2, e:\subfolder\pics3, \\networkdisg\z\pics4 etc etc.
3) You now want to run a backup of DATA (not image / partition).
4) The Acronis menu presents a list of DISKS / Computer etc but no LIBRARIES.

This means that you manually will have to remember every folder that your library has within it so you can back up the library reliably.

This rather goes against the whole point of Libraries as the purpose is not to worry where on the physical disk the data is actually stored.

The built in backup with Windows DOES work with libraries for data backup - but you lose the other things a nice fast commercial program like Acronis has such as Incremental backup, compression, multi-media spanning etc etc.

I hope Acronis addresses this .

I don't think Macrium or paragon can back up libraries either.

I like libraries -- but I want to be able to back them up properly as well with my normal backup program.

Cheers

Answer:Acronis backup - Can't backup W7Libraries

Yet another reason to use a file-by-file backup program for data and use imaging for your system--if you insist on imaging at all. I have been stung a time or two by placing faith in imaging, only to be sadly disappointed when crunch time came.

I make images, but always assume they are going to fail in any restore attempt--that is, I don't rely on them. If they work, fine. If they don't, I have to reinstall Windows--big deal.

But my data is always backed up file by file with another program and by periodic drag and drop copies.

I'm having an issue in recovering a disk copy (partition) to a new drive.
my sons machine (w7 same as mine) started to get msgs saying his drive was failing. So I bought a new 2tb drive to replace his 1tb drive (both WD). I removed his drive and attached it to my PC as an external drive. I then used Acronis to take a back up to my D Drive. I disconnected the old disk and connected the new disk. I tried to run a recovery to the new disk, which I'd formatted and created as a simple disk. I get the message 'cannot recover the selected disk' I've tried both partition and disk recovery modes. If it try to recover to my own 'C' drive it accepts this. I assume from this I do not have rights to the new drive. I've done this operation many times for other people and only once before have I had this issue, unfortunately I can't remember how I fixed it. Any help appreciated as usual. Al

Answer:Acronis 2014 recovery problem - cannot recover this partition

I think it because you are trying to recover an active partition to an external drive
Acronis is expecting to go the other way external to internal.
try putting your "d drive" in the case and connecting the new drive in place of your D drive.
Run acronis and recover to the new drive.

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 14.0.0 Build 5105. With this software I had created a set of 3 DVDs which are the backup of C Drive (Operating System Drive) and is bootable. It contains other softwares as well.
I want to know the method of recovering the C drive with the help of these 3 DVds in case if I require to do so. Please give step by step guidance.
I think any wrong step while recovering will erase the other partitions which are more important than the C drive since you can always format "C" drive and re-install but you cannot recover the contents of other partitions if they get deleted because of any wrong step. Therefore the Recovery becomes critical.
Going through the PDF help file - I could not understand the recovery procedure.
Therefore any elaborate step by step help would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:How to recover system from Acronis True Image Home?

Hi there
if its bootable then boot the first disk of the set and follow the instructions.

I prefer to make a USB bootable stick -- boot from that and then it will prompt me for the location of the backup files which could be on another USB drive or another hard disk drive or partition;

If you have the backup set on another partition it should take at the MOST around 15 - 20 mins to restore your OS.

The trouble with DVD's is you have to find them, wait until prompted to swap media and there is always the chance that a DVD could become defective.

When you make system backups always have TWO in case you get some uncorrectable error on one.

The chances of TWO devices having an error at the same time are virtually negligible.

Hi,
please help
how can I recover data from a damaged disk (not physically) of an external encrypted Bitlocer.
Description of the situation:

After connecting the drive - I can decipher it by typing the password - but when you try to open the contents of the report the message "format disk"
- the disk probably has some volume damaged - it has been disconnected from the computer (without being turned off)
What I have done so far:

Using the "Lazesoft" program - I managed to copy (of course after entering the password
on the damaged disk)
the content to another external disk (full - looking after size) but -
this data is encrypted (mainly ending with .ER)
I am asking for a hint:

whether the data that is on the new disk can somehow read (on this disk I can try) [or/and]how to create a damaged disk image to try on another disk [or/and]how to repair a damaged disk (as a last resort) - I am afraid of total data loss [or/and]what other program to use to copy data from a damaged disk
but decrypted
Thank you in advance for your help

About a year ago, I bought a Windows 7 (Ultimate? ) computer from a box store and I paid someone from the tech company to set it up.

The tech person encrypted the drive with bitlocker and gave me a USB key and said never lose it or you will never be able to start your computer. Every time my computer reboots because of a Microsoft security update, I have to put in the USB key before the computer boots up.

It really just dawned on me that while I won't lose the key, there's no saying that the USB key won't break. If it does, I can't access the data on my computer.

Could someone tell me what is this USB key and how do I make a copy of it so that I can still get into my computer if the original USB key ever fails?

Thank you

Answer:How to backup bitlocker USB key?

Hello Vannyi,

Since this is for your OS drive, it's most likely the startup key on the USB.

You should keep a backup copy of both the startup key and recovery key in safe place to have if ever needed. The tutorials below are for Windows 8, but are pretty much the same in Windows 7.

BitLocker Startup Key - Copy for OS Drive in Windows 8

BitLocker Recovery Key - Back Up in Windows 8

I'm having trouble getting my clients to backup the bitlocker info to AD. I've followed the Configuration Guide (we're running Win2k3R2 domain controllers) as well as the Testing steps detailed in the guide. I'm successfully able to backup TPM information, but the FVE information isn't even attempted to be backed up to AD. I've checked the GPO, and checked the registry on the client as well, and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\FVE\ActiveDirectoryBackup and RequireActiveDirectoryBackup are both set to 1.

It looks like those two GPO objects are being set, but not enforced. I think that because I don't have any 513 or 514 errors in the System Event Log (for FVE anyway - I see the 514 for the TPM backup), and I did a packet capture and don't see a conversation happening between the client and any of my DC's. Also, Bitlocker successfully encrypts the volume, which I thought it shouldn't do until it successfully backed up the recovery information to AD, and it's not there (I used a regular LDAP browser as well as the add-on for AD Users & Computers and the FVE entries are nowhere to be found).

I was able to replicate this on two Win7 Enterprise x64 clients. I'm at a loss at this point at even where else to look for hints of what's going on.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Bitlocker backup to AD

Seems like all I had to do was post and that got me in the right direction...

There are different GPO settings based on the OS. I set the Vista ones correctly, but not the Win7 ones, so I adjusted the settings in the GPO (have to set within Operating System Drives, Fixed Data Drives, and Removable Data Drives as well as in the BitLocker Drive Encryption folder).

They must look at different registry keys as well, as I checked those on the client before, but there must be multiple places.

Thanks.

Hi,

Stumbled upon this forum, seemed like a great place to get help so I joined. First post here so hi guys.

On to my problem....

A friend asked me to backup his outlook 2007 system (calenders, contacts, all the mail etc) and then reformat his pc.

I used Acronis True Image Home 2009 to create a backup image of the email, making sure everything was selected (i.e outlook 2007). I then went ahead and reformatted.

After everything was up and running I used the same Acronis to restore the email, it seemed to do it quite quickly (333MB backup in less than a minitue) and said that it did it succesfully.

I opened outlook 07 to see if everything was in order, but it wasnt. All the contacts were placed in deleted items, no inbox entries, no calender entries. Only thing intact was the sent items.

Now Im panicking, when choosing to recover the image i did select everything, and in the selection you can see it has backed up all the calender entries, all the inbox email etc (see pic attached) but they dont show up in outlook.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to extract stuff from the .tib file ?

Would appreciate help on this guys.

Thanks in advance

I?ve been using BitLocker for quite some time now without any problem on my windows 7 laptop using the USB flash drive. I also have the Recovery key in case of emergency. However, I can?t help but think that if the USB was ever lost, damaged or became corrupted entering the recovery key would be fine to get me into the system once, but not every time. I have tried making a copy USB for such an eventuality but this doesn?t seem to work. Is there a procedure of doing this or is it not possible? I would have thought that it would be for situations where more than one person would have access to the same PC.

Hi I would like to be able to back up and see what I've saved (cloning)I feel more comfortable with this. I have asked acronis support for advice and not received any reply. I will post the question here and see if anyone has a view. Product is acronis true image home 10

Hi I need very specific advice how best to use your product in 2 important areas.
I regularly add replace and change programs on my pc.Eventually I need to reinstall xp and all basic programs such as mobo drivers graphic card drivers and all 120 updates to xp as well as sp2 sp3.This takes a very long time.So I need advice here.
Firstly If I backup to another hard drive...I think the copy/clone drive option may be the best option (please tell me if this is NOT the best option),then I should be able to reinstall xp etc from the backup. It must be bootable without errors. If there is a better way of doing this please tell me.
Secondly I want to use this pc as a games pc so will need to back up all GAMES ,programs and SETTINGS, that again can be reinstalled to a new clean hard drive when I reformat every 4 months or so. What is the best way to do this in conjunction with the first backup question?
Thanking you in advance

Answer:backup with acronis?

Do research on the difference between "sector" cloning and "logical" cloning. (These words may not be perfectly technically correct, but should give you a start.)

Acronis clones by sector, which means that it duplicates all the sectors in the drive, whether they have data or not, and whether that data is relevant (used by XP) or not. If a HD is 160 Gbytes, the clone is also, even if only 30 Gbytes of that drive is used.

In contrast, XX Clone (which is also freeware) uses "logical" cloning. It copies only that data which is used, so it's clone of the same 160 Gbyte drive will only have the 30 Gbytes of "used" data in it.

I have a 250 Gybte drive installed as secondary to my 80 Gbyte boot drive. Right now, I'm running off the clone because some time last week something happened to my 80 Gbyte's install data. I was back, up & running in about 20 minutes. I can't tell the difference between running off the clone and running off the original data. The only issue I had was that Daemon Tools wouldn't run properly and I had to reinstall that. Took less than 5 minutes. Other than that it is a perfect copy.

Because it's not cloning each & every sector, the clone operation takes less than 1/2 an hour, and I can do (light) computing (like surfing) while it's running in the background.

In terms of "perfect", I think it's possible. I'm still new to XX Clone. My current developmental intersests are how to ge... Read more

Answer:acronis backup

It depends on the size of any Acronis file you wish to store.Personally I keep the OS drive as small as I can to make backups and restoration as fast and simple as possible. So if you have a vast drive to back up you will need a similarly vast drive to store it.Acronis does produce some useful compression but don't expect miracles.

I have my computer with Windows XP SP3 and a little used space in my hard disk. I backup my C & D drive as image into E drive using Acronis True Image Home 2009. Lets say the image file is samplebackup.TIB. Can I store the image file in DVD? I'm just thinking if I can use the DVD in the future to recover quickly in case of a disaster. Please advise.

Answer:Acronis backup

Yes. You can do this. Or on flash memory or an external hard disk

When I was preparing an Acronis image backup, in addition to the usual "C" drive it also showed

SERVICEV001 Pri 4.389 GB 3.585 FS:FAT32 Partition: 0x12 (Compaq setup

I do not recall seeing this in previous Acronis Image backups.

What is it?

Should I back it up along with my "C" drive image?

Question: acronis backup

Hi can anyone show in steps how to backup my daughters compaq presario sr1109 with acronis the pc has xp home installed on the c drive and also the fat32 recovery partition, I have taken cd copies of the recovery partition but would like to take an image of the pc with all the programs installed. I have taken lots of images and recoveries with acronis for my own pc's but i am not to sure of the compaq because of the recovery partition, if I decide to image the c drive do I lose the recovery partition thanks Chippy

Answer:acronis backup

Not sure which version of Acronis you are using. My version (10) and others I have used asks at the point of making the image what you want to do. The default is "C" drive but you can choose full disc which will do the back up partition. However given that the OS is on "C" you will as a result of making a "C" image have a back up of the OS, if that makes sense.

Question: acronis backup

hi ihave been using acronis for a few years with great success but yesterday i required to restore an image only to find my latest image missing i checked the acronis log and the only thing i see is a warning for yesterday priority changed to low i have never changed the priority when asked when backing up i usually chose normal i backup 4 pcs all the same way the other 3 dont show this warning anyone help thanks Chippy

Answer:acronis backup

The priority change doesn`t appear to be anything major; I get it on all backups and they all appear fine when I validate them.Have no idea why your image should be missing unless, perhaps, the backup stopped part way through - power cut or you ran out of space on the drive you save to. You could check the Acronis Forum click here and ask there if anyone else has experienced this.

Question: Acronis backup

After initial complete backup, I now have over 200 incremental files.Should I now refresh the whole entry by making another complete backup to start from scratch or just keep accumulating extra files?I have never had the need to use any of them, how do I see them, when I try to access one it just wants to reinstall, I would like to see what's on it.

Answer:Acronis backup

Definitely do a complete back up so that you have one master file again. The thought of recovering 200 incrementals makes me shudder!

These drives are mapped and fully functional, but are not included in the backup location choices.

Question: acronis backup

hi has anyone backed up a dell pc hard drive with os and the hidden partition with acronis how is it done do i just backup as usual thanks Chippy

Answer:acronis backup

The Dell PC restore partition (Ctl+F11 on startup) depends upon at least two things to work:1) No modification to the hard drive's master boot record. A modification occurs with Acronis Secure Zone as warned in the TI8 user manual. (THIS WARNING IS TOO SMALL AND TOO VAGUE.)2) No deletion of the Dell PC restore program that resides on the C partition. If you inadvertently modify the MBR with something like Acronis Secure Zone or Partition Magic, etc. you will lose the functionality of the Dell restore partition. If you reformat the C partition or otherwise delete the Dell PC restore program (listed under add/remove programs in control panels) you will lose functionality of Dell pc restore. Ctl+F11 will no longer work. You cannot restore it to functionality by fixing the MBR. Once it's dead, forget it. Even if the restore partition is still present on the hard drive, it will never work again. That's why it's so important to clone or create an image of your hard drive and store it safely somewhere other than on the hard drive you want to protect. That's the only way you're going to be able to restore the functionality of the Dell PC restore partition if your drive is corrupted or fails.

I have two machines with TPM 1.2 chips. These machines are at home, so the benefits of bitlocker for the system drive seems minimal under the assumption that anyone with physical access can gain full access of my machines. I'm more concerned with the backup disks which I rotate off-site. I would like to encrypt my backup disks, but I'm concerned whether I can do a system image recovery, which bypasses normal the normal startup and runs in the WinPE pre-boot environment. Is there a procedure available to unencrypt the image copy backup for recovery and then reencrypt the backup disk afterwards?

Once machine runs Win 8.1 (x64) with Update. I don't bother sending backups off-site for this or any other client machines, since all data is accessed on my server. Windows offline shadow copies are already encrypted. Yet I still have an occasional need for an image copy restore.

My data is primarily on my virtual Windows Small Business Server (SBS based on Windows Server 2008 R2) running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update Hyper-V host. Hyper-V does not make the TPM available its virtual machines. The Hyper-V host does have access to the *.VHDX disk volumes for the Hyper-V client machines. I have a occasion need to perform an image copy recovery on the Hyper-V host and/or on the Hyper-v virtual SBS.

Can I safely bitlock the backup disks and use them for image copy restores, which run on the Windows pre-environment?

hello,
I am trying to backup bitlocker recovery information to AD from within Powershell, and was able to isolate the numerical ID and store it in a variable - is it possible to use a variable as shown? I tried using single & double quotes both inside and outside
the {}.
manage-bde -protectors -adbackup c: -ID {variable}
Thanks.

Answer:Backup Bitlocker Powershell, manage-bde

I think it needs double quotes but I'm not 100% on that. Have only had to use it a few times as I allow MBAM to store it into AD for me. The command is correct, you are using the GUID correctly?
If you run it manually it works I assume?...you sure it's not getting stored?
You know you have to install the BitLocker Management Feature on a machine to be able to view the recovery key in AD, right?PLEASE MARK ANY ANSWERS TO HELP OTHERS Blog:

Though of putting this in Windows forums or Other Software, but its more of a hardware question because it deals with a strategy for a failed hard drive. Acronis Image software gives you the option to back up incrementally after making a backup, but it doesn't give you the option to write over the incrementals. In other words, if I backup the entire C drive and call it "My Backup", I can then schedule a backup that will incrementally backup only what has changed since the last backup. However, it doesn't give you the option of writing over the incremental backup so that you have only one original backup and one incremental at any one time. If you choose a daily backup, after 30 days, you'll have 30 backup files, which seems inefficient and cumbersome. Am I missing an option? What do you do to backup regularly?

I created a system backup a few days ago, today I tried to do a restore, but on inserting an Acronis bootable CD all that happened was a Acronis splash screen showing the varius patents. So I downloaded direct from Acronis software to create another bootable CD which gave exactly the same result. Anyone with a suggestion as to what is going wrong.

Have you created a boot disk which includes the Safe media mode? I found that my system would only restore from the Safe Media option.

My buddy has a machine with 4 hard drives and needs the all pretty much mirrored to a new machine. Problem is both machines are different, but are pretty much are using the same brands (gigabyte mobo, amd phenom II processor, and G. skill ram.

The main hard drive (C: of course) which contains his system files, program, and files. He wants to mirror the entire drive to a bigger drive and have it run onto another machine so when he leaves town the computer are pretty much identical.

I used the software before, but I've done this on identical machines with no problem and I'm thinking this is impossible, but I may be wrong. If I can manage to mirror this drive and work on the other machine than everything should be all good. Thanks

Answer:Acronis Partition Backup

Is this a Windows operating system?

If this is a Windows operating system, do both computers have product codes for the same operating system?

When this is installed on the other computer will this be replacing the operating system already installed on it?

If a hard drive is moved to a new computer, the registry entries and drivers for the mass storage controller hardware on the new motherboard are not installed in Windows for the new computer you may not be able to start Windows. This is because each chipset uses a different Plug-n-Play (PNP) ID to identify it. If you move your motherboard, your registry will have multiple PNP IDs (for the old hardware as well as the new hardware). If there are multiple entries in the registry, Windows cannot determine which hardware to initialize and therefore fails with a STOP error. I would have to assume that installing a mirrored operating system would present the same potential for this problem. I know of some who have done this and gotten away with it, and then there those that have been able to correct the problem with a repair installation of the operating system, and then there are those that have had to do a fresh installation. It's a craps shoot at best.

If these two motherboards aren't the same models, using the same drivers, you will need to install the different drivers.

My old version of Acronis True Image 2009 used to make one full backup and then dozens of incremental backups on my two internal backup drives. My recent hard drive crash necessitated that I "upgrade" to Acronis True Image 2016 because the Acronis 2009 boot disc didn't recognize my hard drives.

It turns out that after you defragment your hard drive (mine defrags automatically; can't remember how often), Acronis True Image Home 2016 has to make a new full backup of your hard drive. This only allowed me 8 incremental backups after the initial full backup. There is only room for one full backup on my backup hard drives. This served me well with the 2009 version, which didn't have this brand new "feature" as the tech called it.

Other things I hate about Acronis True Image Home 2016:

1. It won't let me swap out my C drive with another hard drive and continue with backups because it tags every hard drive as a separate entity. With Acronis 2009, I would occasionally restore to a new hard drive and pop it in just to make sure the images were not corrupted. I can no longer do this with Acronis 2016 because it sees the new hard drive as a new hard drive and not as drive C. If you use a new C drive, you have to erase the backup drives and start over.

2. It performed the validation tasks at 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. instead of 2:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. as specified.

Can someone recommend good backup software that will do lots of incremental backup... Read more

Answer:Acronis has gone to pot. What's the best backup software now?

Okay, the tool you were using has changed and no longer operates how you expected it to when you got it 5-6 years ago.

There's also no guarantee that any other current system imaging/backup software is going to do what you want it to either.

And the argument "It worked fine with the old one", while a legitimate bitch, isn't a legitimate argument. Again, it has been 5-6 years, the tool has changed because the underlying technology it's supposed to address has changed as well.

If you wish to continue holding large multiples of diffs, with the way the new tool works, you're probably going to have to go to a larger drive.

HI, I backed up my server using acronis server backup and put the file onto a dvd. i had a problem with the server and had it changed for the exact same machine with new hard disks, which are SAS. i boot with the server software and can copy the backup onto the hard disk. but when i reboot i get the error message :

cannot access boot hard disk. check your hard disk configuration.

One of the tech support people we deal with said to setup the RAID configuration first and then copy the backup across, but this does not work either.

If anyone has any ideas i would be most grateful, otherwise i am going to have to start from scratch.

Thanks

The folder is shared using the advanced settings. When i select the network location in acronis to save the backup it asks for the password, i type in my user name for my desktop but i dont have a password set. It wont let me continue without typing a passcode in. But there is none.

Do i have to define a password to use network shares?

Hello xboxhaxorz

Can you tell us if you are using homegroup for networking?
It will prompt you for a password upon installation. In fact Homegroup requires a password.

You can check by opening Network and Sharing Center and looking under "view active networks". It will either say home network, or work network.

Homegroup uses IPV6 and is designed for windows 7 networks. Work Network uses IPV4 and can have mixed OS'es.

That may be the password your network share is looking for.

About three months ago, my Acronis system backups did not run as scheduled, and I received the following error message:-

"Error - No such script; A91C989A - 3917 - 88BA - 242B4A967CC0"
"FAILED to PROCESS pair script : A91C989A - 3917 - 88BA - 242B4A967CC0 "

I opened a thread so that I could correct this, and received help from another member, so that I was successful in doing so. This has since occurred once more recently, and again I went through the routine to correct matters.

The problem has not returned since, fortunately, but I just wanted to know if anyone can think what causes this and whether I can do anything to prevent it recurring. All advice would be appreciated.

They have just emailed me this with an upgrade offer of 14.95.I shall not be upgrading, but it looks as though they are trying to break into the Security Market.click here

Answer:New Acronis Backup & Security

Acronis still do TI and this appears to be simply TI with their Security or Anti-Virus Suite attached. It may well suite some people so such an offering is reasonable. After all they are only doing what virtually every other business is doing - trying to expand and make more profit. In my opinion their `traditional` products are good, so if their security products come to the same standards there may well be a decent market for them.

I've been using Acronis True Image 2010 (and 2009 before it) for backups but don't do it as frequently as I should mainly because I find it so frustrating to use. Maybe it's me, as it's a big seller, but I find it the most non-intuitive software I've ever used (and I use a lot) - everything simple seems hard and most of the terms it uses mean nothing to me.

All I want to do is a main backup, and then follow that with weekly incremental backups, but it can't even remember my selections from the previous session - or if it can, it's [email protected] hard to find. And the way it handles you doing an incremental backup is to instruct it to do a main backup using the previous main file (!!!!). What? they couldn't be bothered to have an incremental backup button?? Or is incremental backup so unusual? Whatever, it's typical of the program.

Perhaps it's meant for systems people but, whatever, I'm sick of it and want to use something (anything) else. I can't use cloud backup because many of my files are graphics, so they're very large, and I don't want be uploading massive files all the time, so it needs to be a local solution.

Anyone recommend a (simple) alternative to Acronis True Image?

Having owned a genuine copy of TI 9.0 for about nine months, and not having had to use it in anger, I decided yesterday to check out a Backup Archive that I have for a desktop. This archive is on a partition of an external drive so I copied and pasted it to a partition on the slave drive with the intention of exploring it to ensure its ?soundness?.The information obtained from it so far is: This is image archive. Full backup of C: 11/06/06.Date: 11 June 2006 20:26:54Size: 10.22 GB. File name: G:\110606.tibFiles of type: Backup Archives (*.tib)Is there a way to open this file?

Answer:Acronis backup transfer?

Well acronis installs a boot manager into your machine, which handles the boot records on cd so i would assume as long as the boot manager is installed on a new machine then it should work i can't guarantee it though, hope this helps

Ok I am getting annoyed..

I bought a 1TB Drive for backups

I have 600gb of Songs/Music/Documents etc,. I use the backup FILE option (not partition)

Because of the amount of data I use incremental with max compression (ends up 450-500gb).. I make it auto-consolidate after 3 increments.

Day 1 initial backup - 500gb
Day 2 incremental - 5gb
Day 3 incremental - 300gb (???)

I think because I changed the tags of a bunch of my movies it completely rebacked them up, this is very annoying because it fills up my drive.

I guess backing it up daily is a poor choice then? because if ONE SINGLE BIT changes in a file it backs up the entire file again apparently? I don't want to do a full backup daily because id rather not wear out my drive by running 500gigs a day through it.

Should I just backup once weekly? id rather do it incrementally but it basically adds 75% of my entire data anyways
