Mobile hotspot issues

Question: Mobile hotspot issues

Hi guys.
Recently I've been having trouble connecting to my mobile phones WiFi hotspot with my laptop.
I can connect to the hotspot with any other device, such as the tablet I'm using now, and I can also connect to any other WiFi using my laptop. The problem appears to exist purely between my laptop and my phone.
When attempting to connect it will begin authenticating and then disconnect, offering me the troubleshooter. Sometimes there is a small volume of packet transfer but not often. I have tried disabling and reenabling all of my network adaptors to no avail and I'm somewhat at a loss of what to do next.
The phone in question is a Motorola razr I if that helps, but I have to point out that it worked flawlessly until recently.
I suspect the culprit may be hamachi as it had very recently been installed onto my computer at the time and it appears to be a known trouble maker.
But I still don't understand why no other problems have arisen. Hamachi has been uninstalled but the problem persists.
Any suggestions or ideas that could help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time guys.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What OS is on the Laptop and which Firewall are you using?

huh? Connecting how: Bluetooth, Infra Red? The WiFi adaptors of both the phone and the laptop are never going to connect, unless you're attempting peer-to-peer which has limited utility.

If you're connecting via a router, then the PC is not the issue.

Hey,

recently updated to W10 and now my laptop does not notice my Mobile (Samsung Note 4) hotspot, before W10 it worked fine, but im not sure what I could do.

I tried resetting the IP/TCP w/ CMD (elevated) & winsock

Netsh int ip reset
Netsh winsock reset

I tried disabling the wifi drivers and resinstalling them with no fix.

does anyone have a better idea of something i could do to fix this issue?

Have you tried rebooting the Hotspot? Is there anything out in forums like howardforums.com talking about this issue.

Can you connect to the Hotspot with other wifi devices?

I just learned that this is even remotely possible, so I would like to make it work. I'm on a Lumia 950XL (not Insider) and would love for the Mobile hotspot to automatically turn on when my phone connects to my car via Bluetooth. I want it to turn on because I have an iPod Touch in the car (that is always connected via USB to the car) for music playback. I would like that iPod Touch to be able to stream Spotify and use my 950XL's hotspot for the Internet connection. Is this possible?
- My car does not have Bluetooth music streaming, so this is why I have to depend on the iPod because my car does have iPod integration (ugh)

Hi all

I am currently using my Surface 3 to extend my WiFi (from my main router) coverage to my older devices which don't quite have a strong enough signal to connect to my main router.

This is working great, however it is getting a bit annoying to constantly having to do this every time on startup and whenever my other devices are idle.

I have heard there is someway to do this with cmd commands but am unsure of exactly the correct procedure.

Any help is appreciated!

I am running a DSL connection at my home. Out here in the county, your choices are DSL or HughesNet satellite, which is slower than DSL and a lot more expensive. DSL is pretty slow too -- 1.47Mbps download speed, .51Mbps upload, .36ms ping. Streaming video is painful. We have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, but a half hour show can take up to an hour. Would a mobile hotspot be better? Most advertise much higher speeds than 1.47! But it's always "up to 4Mbps" or whatever, never "guaranteed to run at 4Mbps." Any experiences, warnings or recommendations out there?

Answer:Best Mobile Hotspot

Any issues you have with cellular phone reception will be an issue with your mobile hotspot. They have data caps and a couple of Netflix movies will easily burn through 5GB. Data is considerably more expensive.

Hi there
I am looking for help with this please, I have just bought a Bush B320DTR Freeview+ HD Digital Smart TV Recorder -320GB with USB Media Player.
My problem is that I don't have a landline and broadband. I use my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 as a Hotspot for the various devices, laptop, tablet and Smart TV.
Now here is my problem the Bush recorder has Ethernet connectivity and not wireless so is there any way to work round this.
Thank you all for your interest and your time.

Answer:Mobile Hotspot Problem

I would just try connecting the Ethernet from the computer to your device to create a bridged network. It works with computers that have no wireless capabilities, and it might work for you.

Hello all, I'm running Windows mobile 10 build 10166 on a Lumia 925. Running mobile hotspot on my mobile everything appears to be just fine, until after i connect my PC ?. It disconnects after moments of use, which continuously repeats....now I've seen this happen less then a week ago while trying to give hotspot to my buddies Samsung note 2.
Though now it's some what an importance to me since my complex electricity is shut down for the day.
Any quick help would be appreciated.

I cant connect through my mobile hot spot, says limited connection. pleasse help.

Answer:Mobile Hotspot not working

I think your mobile service provider is blocking your hotspot. Several service providers have that capability and they restrict any extra devices from being connected to their network through hotspot. In the US, I know that T-mobile and AT&T both have that capability.
You should check with your service provider.

For personal troubleshooting, you can try resetting the Hotspor connection on your cellphone, enter a new password and then set it up again. Try connecting again from your device and see if that works.

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a mobile wi-fi hotspot for when we go away for the odd weekend and the mobile signal is a bit hit-and-miss.

It only has to be 3G really although I might go for 4G if the price is right.

I only want it on PAYG rather than a monthly contract as it won't be used often enough, to the point where I want one that any top-up lasts for 90 days rather than just 30.

I have researched and found that the Vodafone R207 last for 90 days when you top-up but I think the EE and O2 ones come with 90 days data pre-loaded but then when you top-up it only lasts for 30 days, which would be a waste of money and data.

Thanks.
Gareth.

Hello. I have a small medical practice and I am moving into a new office location this week. We will not have our final internet connection until three weeks out. I was wondering if I could power the business using a Verizon Hotspot. We would have six laptops and six cell phones running at once with the six laptops connecting to an electronic health records program installed on each laptop. This program allows us to enter patient data and send out prescriptions and such. The office is a little over 1000sq ft with dedicated rooms for each employee. What do you think??

Answer:4G Mobile Hotspot for Business

From a WiFi stand point, you're asking alot out of a small hot spot. I have a Verizon JetPack I use for both personal and business. These JetPacks are typically limited to only support 5 wireless clients. I know there are ways to hack the JetPacks to allow more wireless clients but these JetPacks are not designed to support many wireless devices. Also there's the issue of proper coverage since these devices are small and meant for portability and power efficiency.

Your best bet is to see if Verizon still offers a USB cellular modem and get a device like a Cradlepoint wireless router. These routers support the use of USB cellular modems and shares out the connection to both wired and wireless devices.

Outside of the technical nature of this project, you also have to look at the service speed provided by Verizon in your area. I have been in situations where Verizon was not able to provide the best service and had to fall back on AT&T provided by my work's cell service. Also, you need to look at how much data you might be using for the duration where you'll be dependent on Verizon cellular. You need to get a service plan which covers your projected data usage as you don't want to be into the situation where you're into paying extra for any data over the cap you have in your plan. It will get expensive very quickly.

I also don't know who your ISP will be but you might want to see if they offer WiFi access. Comcast provides their subscribe... Read more

I'm running Windows 10 now and I haven't been able to connect to my Lumia 822 (WP 8.1) using internet sharing. I click on connect on Windows 10, and then it says "Can't setup mobile hotspot". Any ideas?

Answer:Why can't I connect to my Mobile Hotspot?

What wireless adaptor/driver does your Windows 10 PC have? If by chance it is "Intel Centrino Wireless", check the version that you currently have installed - if it is 16.1.1.0, then you need to revert back to an earlier version of the driver, i.e. 14.3.0.6. Some users (with the 16.1.1.0 version) report even worse experiences, such as BSOD as soon as they attempt to connect to a mobile hotspot.
P.S.
I have tried this and it worked with my Windows 7 PC, but not yet in my Windows 10 - Windows 10 may automatically update your driver once it detects that you've installed an earlier not updated version of it. At any rate, let us know what you find.
Other generic things you can try are:
1. create a new profile, e.g. rename your phone sharing name into something else, change the password and then create the new connection profile
2. restart your PC
3. restart your phone

Greetings everyone!
I got a question regarding the Mobile Hotspot feature on my HP Elite X3 in combination with my Surface Book.
The Phone's Mobile Hotpot settings has a toggle for other devices to automatically switch to a, I assume less power hungry, Bluetooth connection after a WiFi connection has been established/requested but I'm not seeing this happening with my Surface Book. ( in the Network Adapter properties only WiFi has a connection )
Strangely enough, on the Surface Book the Phone is being displayed under BT Settings but it's also mentioned that the "Setup incomplete because of a metered connection" with the option to [ Remove device ].
Any suggestions what to do to get this to reliably change to BT? My Phone keeps getting fairly warm while using the WiFi Hotspot which is also a reason I'd like to get this working under BT in hopes for a cooler experience =)

so my company is built like bunker. I cant get signal. my laptop has access to the company wifi....what is the best way to "get internet" from my laptop to my phone?

Answer:mobile hotspot devices?

If there is WiFi available, why not connect to WiFi with your phone? If the answer is because the company doesn't allow your cell to connect to WiFi, then I would probably recommend not circumventing their security protocols.

With that said, if you can connect to the network via Ethernet cable then you could probably setup an ad-hoc network which can share the internet via WiFi. I don't think you can connect to the network via WiFi then create an ad-hoc network on the same adapter. Unless you have a second wireless adapter you need Ethernet to the main network.

Answer:Mobile hotspot with iPhone 3GS?

Call AT&T to discuss your options. It looks like you would have to switch to a 4GB data plant plus tethering to get the functionality assuming they support it on the iPhone 3GS.

The mobile hotspot would likely be a Verizon Jetpack, for example. (A shame these don't have ethernet ports on them)

I wouldn't mind having this option potentially as an "emergency backup" during any outages. It's definitely one of those "bonus ideas."

What would it take?

Here is the setup:

Desktop PC 1 using Win 7 64 is connected via ethernet to the NETGEAR CM600 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 router.

Desktop PC 2 in another room is connected wirelessly via the NETGEAR AC1200 Wi-Fi USB Adapter

Downstairs is mother's beloved Roku that operates on wireless connected to the router. It helps her sleep. What can I say? (long story)
I've read up a bit and watched some videos and if I understand it correctly I would need to have a bridge added to this current setup for starters?

Where am I with this and what are my options? Thanks!

Hello, I have a T420 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Lenovo Access Connections 6.26.77. The problem is that most of the times Mobile Hotspot does not start and it also results in Access Connections crashing. So, when I click on START-button in the mobile hotspot tab, I get a dialog saying something like "Internet connection sharing has been disabled, enable it in the profile to use mobile hotspot". What profile? Location Profile? In the Location Profile I only have Current, no other profiles. There is not an "enable sharing" option. There only is a "disable sharing" option if you tick the Connection Security. And that one is not ticked. And every time I click on START mobile hotspot I get the dialog saying "enable internet connection sharing" and I click OK, and AC crashes (Access Connections has stopped and Windows has closed the program etc.). SOMETIMES when I do this often enough it starts okay. And when it starts, it works just fine. And yes the Radio is enabled. But the main question is, why does it always think that connection sharing is disabled? Don't know if this is related but I use Standby Mode often on Windows.

I wanted to share my Mobile Broadband/WAN connection via a 802.11 ad-hoc network the other day and so I also enabled the WLAN on my X201 tablet and then started the "mobile Hotspot" feature in Access Connections (right-most tab). But instead of sharing my WAN internet connection via WiFi this started a crazy dance, where my Mobile Broadband connection was disconnected about once per minute (which also terminates the "mobile hotspot" feature). Then the WAN connection is re-established again which takes about 30 seconds and shortly after the mobile hotspot is started again, after which the WAN is promptly disconnected again etc. Disabling WiFi/802.11 brought the WAN connection back to stability, but re-enabling it, started that crazy on-/off-shuttling again. So, in short, it seems impossible to do this kind of connection sharing using Access Connections or what am I missing? Why is that so? Any advice how one can do such connection sharing (of an Ethernet or wireless broadband connection) via a wireless 802.11 ad-hoc network? This is on an X201 Tablet running under Windows 8 Pro (x64). Michael

how to connect my laptop through mobile hotspot

Answer:how to connect internet through mobile hotspot

The same way you would connect to any hotspot or wireless connections. You open up a list of the wireless access points near you and select the correct SSID. Provide any credentials it might ask for and you should be good to go.

I have used it; I do use; I recommend; it's great .

As far as I am aware it is the best at what it odes (at least for free) and many people on the forum will agree with me on it (considering most of us sugest it as an easy solution to Ad-hoc networking).

I recently created a mobile hotspot on my HP Spectre laptop for my guests to use but have found that if there is no traffic or no-one is connected to it .... it turns itself off. I have changed all of the power saving settings etc to NEVER and its still doing it. i have tried to set a command prompt to PERSISTANT and it wont allow. Ive exhausted all of my knowledge bank.
FYI..
connecting to the hotspot is perfect , it just turns itself off when no-one is connected.
Is there a fix for it ? or can anyone help...... please?!?!

Answer:windows 10 keeps turning off my mobile hotspot

As far as I know, it is supposed to turn off when no connected device is detected.
Save power ? Maybe.
I could be wrong. That's how I understand it.
Will MS change that ? you don't want my answer to that.
Hell, they won't even bother to fix the " dism..... restorehealth..... source files could not be found " issue. And that is an important tool for users to fix problems.

On my Thinkpad X230, there used to be an option Mobile Hotspot in Lenovo Settings on Windows 8. After the update to 8.1 and the following Lenovo updates, this feature is gone, or hiding elsewhere. Where is it?

Answer:Mobile Hotspot option missing on new software for Win 8.1

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Windows 8.1 comes with a built in mobile hotspot feature.
The Mobile Hotspot feature has been removed from Lenovo Settings because it conflicted with the Windows 8.1 built-in feature. Once these conflicts are resolved, the new Lenovo settings redesigned with mobile hotspot feature will be available. But we cannot assure when it is expected to release.

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have started to use the Lenovo Access Connections utility in place of the standard Microsoft wireless networking app/icon that appears in the taskbar. I think there is a bug with the Lenovo app but wanted to see if others are having the same problem. From a fresh boot, the app works fine. I can load a profile and the network connects. I can then start the mobile hotspot and it works fine too, connecting both my iphone and ipad to the internet. The problem starts when I put my X240 to sleep. When I wake it back up, the wireless LAN connects again, but no matter what I do, I cannot get the mobile hotspot to launch/load/start again. It will not work until I reboot my computer. I think this is a bug, but in case I am not doing something correctly, please let me know.

Answer:Mobile Hotspot while connected to Internet via LTE USB modem?

Talk to your carrier and see if they have a WWAN porgram to handle access. For example, my company phone is thru Verizon and to use it as a WWAN Modem I have to use the VZ Access program. Your carrier or LTE may have a program available on their support site to allow what you want to do.

Answer:T430 with WWAN vs WLAN and mobile hotspot

reefgeorge wrote:Anybody had the opportunity to experience a Thinkpad with the ATT or Verizon WWAN card vs using the WLAN 802.11 and a mobile hotspot? I am going to order a T430 and need occasional internet access with no available hot spot,The challenge you always face is on demand networking and the cost.  Most of the cell phone solutions from ATT, Verizon, etc. require a monthly subscription whether you use it or not. I bought a portable MiFi device a few years ago and only buy an internet connection when I neet it from VirginMobile.  That has served me well. If you can get ad hoc on demand networking from ATT and Verizon now, the would be the most convenient way to go.  You don't have to carry around another device, power supply, etc. But the portable MiFi approach also lets you share the connection with other family members and devices like an iPad.

It worked JUST FINE before Windows 10, I think it may have even worked sometime on Windows 10. I may not have a strong enough Wifi signal to connect my iPod Touch 4th Gen too in the house I'm about to live (my family uses neighbor's wifi, with permission, it's actually my mom's parents) and it will be COMPLETELY UNUSABLE in the house if I can't connect to wifi on it. My family will most likely not bother getting their own home Internet when they get it for free.
Mobile Hotspot sharing on my laptop use to work JUST FINE, why do companies have to update and make things stop working? Updates are supposed to make things BETTER! I'll tell you why updates make things stop working, because the company wants you to go and buy new products so they can make more money!

Hi AndyPandy66,

How long has this been going on?
How long had it been working before the malfunction?
What operating system are you using?
Have you updated the drivers and BIOS?

Check with your phone carrier to see if they have made any changes to the service.

I just got a new phone that has mobile hotspot access. I try to use it on my laptop but i can't bring up any webpages. It shows that its connected and has a really good signal but it says no network access. I have run all troubleshooters and they all say its an ethernet cable that is unplugged. I even tried to tether it instead but apparently my laptop is not compatible with tethering. Last week i used a different hotspot that wasn't a cell phone but just a box that you add data to and it worked perfectly fine. It connected right away and I could access any and all websites. I am confused as to why i could use one hotspot but not the one on the phone. I have also previously used someone elses mobile hotspot on this laptop with no problems and it was the same cell company that i use now. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have had this laptop for over a year now and this is the first time i am having problems with it but i do seem to be having a lot of problems with it in the last few weeks.

I'm interesting in getting a mobile hotspot set up, as I'll be traveling soon and know I won't have any WiFi available.
I have a Cricket phone plan, which disables tethering, so I can't simply use my regular phone (a Lumia 830).
Its looking like the AT&T GoPhone Mobile Hotspot plan would be a good plan for me.
It looks like most hotspot devices cost well over $50. My question is:
Can I purchase a Nokia Lumia 635 ($30-$40), and use this with AT&T's hotspot data plan? Or is there some kind of SIM enforcement that would prevent usage like this?

Answer:Can I use a Nokia Lumia 635 purely as a mobile hotspot?

i think the 635 is actually sold by AT&T as go phone
and if not the 520 is an AT&T go phone
im pretty sure any AT&T device, whether bought from them or not will have working hotspot when activated on their GoPhone network
there are people in the forums i know who have moved from Cricket to AT&T gophone with their unlocked devices in order to get hotspot and visual voicemail

Hello,
I have been running Windows 10 Mobile on the latest Production Release, non-Insider, and my Mobile Hotspot won't work over WiFi. I can still use it over Bluetooth but it is slow compared to WiFi.
I am using AT&T with 5 GB of data with my Lumia 950 XL. I was able to use the Mobile Hotspot with my Lumia 1520 and 830 without any problems.
I did try changing the APN as recommended by a user here who spoke with AT&T customer service but that didn't work at all.
I appreciate the help and input.
Thank you.

Answer:Lumia 950 XL - Mobile Hotspot not transmitting via WiFi

I'm on AT&T with a 950 XL so I can say it does work. I did have some issues with some Production Release versions. I think it was because of the options to enable the PC to enable the hotspot. Turn that off and it should work.

I have my home network set up and it works fine. It's a simple setup of router and Homeplug devices (one of which is wifi). To this I connect my PC, laptop, console and Vita. I use media sharing and Remote Play.
I am allowed to tether my mobile and share it's internet connection. Since I rarely use internet at home (apart from on my mobile) I don't have a broadband connection and instead tether my PC when needed. However occasionally it would be useful to be able to share the phone's internet connection with all other devices on the network (updating consoles etc) without having to disconnect them from the LAN and specifically tether to my mobile.
I tried to bridge the wifi and LAN connection on my PC in order to enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and route Internet bound traffic from the LAN devices through to the mobile Hotspot. But it looks like that conflicited with the DHCP setting on the Homeplugs. No matter how much I tried every setup guide it never quite worked. Often I would think it had, then I'd find out something had broken somewhere.
image map
Can anyone look at this rough map of what I hope to do, and tell me what the best approach is? I'm not a techie noob but apparently this is beyond me :-(
Is it possible with Win7? Is the problem having the router there? It seems like the Homeplugs, Mobile Hotspot and router are assigning IP addresses. Can that all work together?
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Jon

Answer:Windows 10 Mobile hotspot not working because of firewall

In general, if the firewall is acting to block mobile hotspot access, an exception to "punch a hole through the firewall" must somehow be created to permit it to provide wifi access to other users. The exact details on how to do this depends on which firewall you're using. Because you didn't provide that information in your original post, please share it now. Then others (including me) can make more pointed suggestions about how to proceed.

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure where this should go but I'm looking for a good mobile hotspot service for my Mom. She has an old P4 HP OEM computer that runs fine- but she's still on AOL! Plus the office is upstairs so she needs to keep a phone chord running all the way down the stairs . She doesn't have a cell phone so when she's online she ties up the only number I can contact her with. Her needs are really simple - all she uses is e-mail and the occasional necessity (looking up flights, store hours etc). I seriously doubt she will use more than a few hundred megs a month and I'll disable media and set low image quality on her browser just to make sure. I am probably going to get her the upcoming iPad mini so a wifi connection would be the best way to go. She HATES the ISP companies around here (ATT, Comcast, etc.) so I wanted to have something simple that I'd pay for that she wouldn't have to worry about.

is there anything like this for under $30 a month? we are located in the bay area btw. Thanks everyone.
