You don't have permission to access "SITE" on this server.

Question: You don't have permission to access "SITE" on this server.

There was a thread on this forum under
https://forums.techguy.org/threads/...rmission-to-access-site-on-this-server.835644 also known as https://techguy.org/835644 That thread is now locked.

It described an error "Access Denied" "You don't have permission to access on this server." Reference #

The issue is caused by Akamai. There is a long thread onthe Akamai forum that describes the problem here: https://community.akamai.com/message/11119
and there is a solution here:
https://community.akamai.com/community/cloud-security/blog/2016/04/19/security-vs-convenience

I am posting it here because the other thread comes up first in Google when searching for this issue. If the admins could add this post as the last comment on that locked thread, that would be greatly appreciated as it would help a lot of other users.

Preferred Solution: You don't have permission to access "SITE" on this server.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there,

I use steam. So basically what's happening is that sometimes, randomly I get this error message because of which I can't connect to steamcommunity.com at all. This can be solved by disconnecting my dialup cable wired internet and reconnecting it.
But the problem is, it stays as long as 15 minutes and then the same error occurs again. It keeps on occurring the entire day and so on and it's really a drag to keep reconnecting my net every 15 minutes.
So, any solution ?
Thanks in advance.

My Windows 10 laptop has several shared drives (not folders).
They are shared with Everyone, Full Control, Password-Protected sharing is off.

I can't access them from my main PC, but I can access the Users\Public folder.

Sharing settings below...

Answer:Shared Drive: "Your user account doesn't have permission to access"

Can't access them from my Android device either. ES File Explorer says"

Login fails
This may be caused by:
- The account has no permissions

I therefore assume the problem is with the PC with the shares, not my network.

After newly installed updates, I now have a new drive in my drive list called "SYSTEM (F:)". I don't have permission to access it. It tells me to give permission in the security tab, but there is no security tab in the menu it opens up (properties
menu). The drive is 296 MB in size with 38 MB used.

On both 64Bit & 32Bit Win7 machines I get an error message, denying access to a file in a folder within another folder. All have been shared, permissions granted & drives mapped to each folder. That is in addition to initially applying the changes to the file folder, subfolders, and files.

The message comes after the Client machine accesses the program, and attempts to generate a pdf.

The 64 is Win7-Win7 connection, while the 32 is connected to an XP.
Initially, I thought it to be a 64 issue. However, now it seems to be a Win7.
I have set to the Program to Run As Administrator & changed the Compatibility to XP Service Pack 3 to no avail.

I am moments away from Control+Alt+45ACP.

From somewhere, somehow, a folder named "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" has been created in my W7x86pro root dir. Trying to look inside, I had to "permanently get access". But then inside it, there are a whole lot of folders named things like 1025, 1028, 1029, etc, ending with 3076, and 3082.

What's in those folders, I have no idea, since every time I try to open one, I first get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" dialog, and then when I click Continue, I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".

Also inside the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, there are files, like "Setup.exe" and "NDP40-KB2473228.msp" and "SetupEngine.dll" and some *.bmp and some other files. I guess that NDP40-KB2473228.msp gives away that this folder has something to do with some .NET framework update, but AFAIK, there's no .NET-anything installed on this computer.

I want to remove the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, but there seems to be no way I can get permission to do that. trying to get ownership or set access rights, all I get is "Access denied" or similar.

Does anyone know:
1. What those folders and files are doing there?
2. How do I remove them?

Answer:Denied permission when trying to get access to folder named "1055"

First off, I wasn't sure where the best place to post this would be, since UAC is supposed to be a security feature of windows 7 I figured the security section would be best. My apologies if I posted this in the wrong section.

OK to the problem...

Trying to simply copy/paste a game dll file from a folder on a virtual(.iso) drive to a folder on my main drive. I get the error window titled, "File Access Denied" with the following:

"You need permission to perform this action

You require permission from Everyone to make changes to this file"
_________________________________________________________

Strange thing is this, I also have this same dll file in another folder on my main drive, but I get the same message with the permission requirement coming from my own user name.

Like in the title of my post I have taken ownership of all folders/files in question, am using the only admin account on this machine, and have given my username "full control" permissions over said files/folders. Also for troubleshooting purposes I have disabled UAC completely and still get the error message.

One thing I will add that just came to mind which may of some help. When I had installed win7 on this machine I was married and had 1 user account that my wife and i used. We split up and she had the computer for a while. She changed the computers name and changed the username/s. When I got it back from her I re-changed the computer name and also the... Read more

Hello SevenForums users!

Yesterday I reformatted my PC, everything went just fine. However, when I'm now trying to access a folder in my (D hard drive I get "you have been denied permission to access this folder" I do know how to fix the problem folder and files each, but how can I fix this error for my hole (D hard drive? Is there a more simple way to fix this without going through all my files? There's also "unknown" users with numbers that have access to the files, like it would be my old user before reformat. How can I remove them the most simple way?

I also want to know why did this happen? I have reformatted before and didn't encounter this problem, and I can't think of anything that would make this happen.

How can I prevent this from happening again? I reformatted my PC after fixing some of the access to see if it would happen again, and it did.

I also noticed that on some folders there are a lock on the icon, as well as that most of the folders are write protected and I cant remove it!?

I appreciate all help I can get!

Thanks.

I hope you guys can help me here. I consider myself an experienced admin for my home LAN including Win 7 and Win XP systems, and a networked HP printer. I have been able to solve many networking-related problems over the years. I keep a record of all my patches and fixes, so if I solve a problem on one system, I have a guide to solving the same problem on other systems.

Until a few weeks ago, everything was hunky-dory. From any system, I could access all the folders and files on any other system. All-of-a-sudden, my wife's system, which is still Win XP, restricts access from all the other systems on the LAN, but not at the drive level. I hadn't done any new software installs, or any hardware upgrades on my wife's system when this problem came up. The system is pretty old but it has been extremely stable.

From any other system, I can still access each of the drive's root folders, e.g. C:\ or D:\. I can see all the files and folders in each drive, but I can't access them, e.g. I can see D:\lists or D:\family,. but if I try to open up one of these folders, I get the typical Windows error message "You do have permission to access ..."

I do not use simple file sharing, and for each drive share, I have full control permissions enable for Everybody. NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled, and File and Print Sharing IS enabled on my wife's system. I have already implemented the IRPStackSize fix, with value decimal 50.

I have no idea what to try nex... Read more

I seem to be having an ownership issue with just one of my folders, and I'm not sure why. Mainly I just want to know how to fix all of the subfolders at once though. I keep all of my documents and everything on a seperate HDD from the OS HDD. Well, I recently switched from the Windows 7 RC to Windows 7 Pro RTM, and now I'm having problems accessing the 'My Pictures' folder that resides on my "Documents" drive. It's weird, because I didn't have any issues when going from XP to the W7 RC.

Anyways, when I first went to open 'My Pictures' I got the dialog box saying "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder." Well, I went ahead and got that folder to work. The problem is, every single folder in 'My Pictures' and every sub-folder gives me the same thing. Being that I have probably 100's of folders in there, I can't sit here and click through every folder and set it up so I have permission to access it.

Long story short, I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to set the entire 'My Pictures' folder and all of it's subfolders at once so that I have permission to access all of them.

I looked around the net a bit, and I came across some stuff to do in Command Prompt, so I did it on my Documents drive, and it said it was successful, but it didn't do anything to the contents within it I guess, since I still... Read more

How to remove the "Authenticated Users" "Create Folders" permission from the root of the C Drive via command-line?
I know this question has been asked many times before, but nothing works for us!
We tried the following:
Take ownership: I cannot take ownership using the Administrator account (local and Domain Admin accounts) of the root C:. Error Access Denied
Cuurent root C: owner is TrustedInstaller and acnnot be changed.
We cannot change or remove the Create Folders permission of the Authenticated Users of the root C: . Error Access Denied.
Drive C: is hidden via GPO, but many users can enter it from the File-Explorer and create folders in the root C:.
We do not want -for many reasons- to Block/ Prevent Access to C: via GPO.
We also tried to run cacls and/or icacls under the system-account (PSEXEC -i -s -d CMD). Error Access Denied.
icacls C:\ /deny *S-1-5-11:(NP)(AD)
Error Access Denied.
icacls C:\ /remove:g *S-1-5-11

there are lots of things i like so far about vista (i've had it less than a week) and a few things that are obnoxious and nonsensical. one of them is this:

this is a home computer. i'm the only user on it. i'm logged in as myself. i'm trying to download some outlook backup files into windows mail. to do so, i have to drill down through \users\username\local settings\etc. to where i'm going.

but every time i hit \local settings i get the aforementioned error message. i'm eventually routed to the security permissions tab where i can plainly see that i have FULL CONTROL. apparently full control is not really full control. i'm not trying to erase the registry for pete's sake.

please tell me there is a SIMPLE way around this ridiculousness...

Answer:"You Dont Currently Have Permission To Access This Folder"

It does that because of the UAC (User Access Control) feature in Vista. Only way to get around it is to disable it. Instructions on how to do so can be found here

http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

First post so apologies for sharing the burden. I am running a Win Server 2008 R2. One of my users informed me that he could not access a couple of folders within the server. Upon checking, I found out that even I do not have access to the folder, even in administrator account. Whenever I try to open it, it says 'you don't currently have permission to view this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder.' so I clicked Continue.

It comes out with another popup that says 'You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder, you need to use the security tab. The security tab part is clickable so I did.

It shows the folder properties > Security with a message of 'You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings.' I clicked the Advanced tab > Owner -> Edit button. Checked the Replace owner or subcontainers and objects. I can see the Administrators as a choice. I even tried keying in an individual user. After that, I clicked 3 subsequent OKs.

Nothing happened. Kinda stumped on this. I did read some help from here earlier but it couldn't work. I can't just 'restart' this as its a running server. Halp pls.

Hey guys,

this has been driving me nuts for the past few days trying to figure this out.

I am trying to share a folder off my external hard drive that is connected to my laptop with my Desktop PC.

Both computers are connected to the Homegroup and are seen on my network with no problems finding them.

Now every time I click on the folder that is on the laptop from my Desktop it gives me this error:

I have read around and see that I need to edit my permissions and I have done so for my laptop and I have given my PC full control over the folder but I just doesn't connect and gives the error every time.

The only folder on my Laptop I can access from my PC is the "Users" folder...

I don't know why this keeps happening and I'm going crazy here trying to figure it out.

Please, any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

EDIT: I GOT IT! for some reason the permisson "Everyone" wasn't included in the folders I wanted to join... My life is complete now

Bought a new computer (Win XP Home), thought the easiest way to transfer files from the old one (Win 98SE) was with a simple network. Put a network card in the old one, got a "crossover cable" since I'm hooking computer to computer with no hub, ran the "networking wizard" on the new one (basically let it do everything it wanted to by default), it recognized the network, said it set everything up, made me a floppy to use in the Win 98 computer to set everything up on it. XP says it now has a network.

So, in Windows Explorer on the XP, I try to access the hard drive of the old computer, and get the message "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server [um...that would be me...] to find out if you have access permission. The list of servers on this workgroup is not currently available."

Both have the same workgroup name, both have different computer names. The Win98 computer is set to share all files. What do I do next?

Hi Experts,

I work on a Windows 7 Ultimate computer and need to access files on my wife's Windows XP SP3 computer, specifically I'd like to copy my Favorites to my Win7 computer. However, whenever I try to access Documents and Settings on my WinXP computer I get a "You don't have Permission" error.

I've made both the C:\ drive and the Documents and Settings folder sharable from my WinXP account there, the permissions are set so that anyone on the network can access the folder and make changes to files on it. I can see it on my Network (formerly Network Places) but can't do anything with it. I've rebooted both machines more than once after making the changes.

What's missing?

Thanks,

Can I access my Netscape WebMail or Hotmail accounts through Thunderbird?

No. Netscape WebMail and Hotmail use proprietary protocols. To access WebMail directly through an e-mail client requires you to use Netscape 6+ with AIM; to do so with Hotmail requires either Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. Of course, you can access your WebMail account on the Web at http://webmail.netscape.com/, or Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com/.

Hi, I've recently bought a DELL venue pro 11 with Win 10. I've updated to V1511 build 10586.29.

I'm trying to access shared drives on a Win 7 PC over wifi but I can only access the public folder not any other shares, even though their permissions are "full control" for everyone.

Initially, the networked Win 7 pc would show in File explorer on the Win 10 tablet but wouldn't open on double-clicking giving a "Cannot open ...... the network path cannot be found" message.

Pressing cancel and double clicking again usually opened the location and displayed the shares but I get the "You do not have permission... " message when trying to open shares other than the public folder.

Rebooting the tablet and trying again gave the same "network path can't be found message" and clicking the troubleshooter gave the "Missing network protocols" message discussed in another post in this forum.

Applying the fixes for this problem given by DaveI in the "Win10 suddenly stopped seeing other computers on network" thread allowed me to access the networked location without errors/messages but I still can't access shares other than the public folder due to the "permissions" issues.

Going the other way, I can happily browse the Win 10 tablet shares from the Win 7 PC without issues however.

Both PC's are in the default workgroup (WORKGROUP). The network/sharing options are discovery "on", File/Printer Sharing "On&q... Read more

Ok, so, I am so lost and confused. I just bought a new Gateway computer with Windows 7 and then I tried to hook up my old harddrive (xp os). I opened the "My Documents" on the old hard drive containing xp. Well, I am getting all confused because of the fact that I don't have "permission" to access the files. Well, how do I disable this, what is it, and if I cannot disable it, how do I "claim them as my own" or however Win 7 says it? Very confused, flustered, and dumbfounded, Dragonpoet. "You don't currently have permission to access this folder"....

I had this problem before and solved it by right clicking the affected folder , choosing the security tab and so acquiring total control.
But this time is going on with J:\ drive that is my smartphone?s SD card plugged on a usb port of my desktop (it was working until a couple of minutes ago).
No use to right click for properties as the Security tab is not available.
Well , any suggestion ? Thank you.

Read more

Hi,

Please excuse-me in advance if the topic does not contain all information right away, or if it is not at the right place.

I have a problem uploading content via Filezilla under Windows 7, on an HP p6720f i just purchased. The domain is hosted by godaddy, my ISP is ATnT (their 2701HG-B box).

If i try to connect typing the domainname in the "Host" case, i get:
Connection attempt failed with "EAI_FAIL - Nonrecoverable failure in name resolution".
If i try to connect typing the DNS number in the "Host" case, i get:
"EACCES - Permission denied"

I disabled all firewalls
I tried the netsh manipulations form topic139311
as the apprentice sorcerer i am (And that's how i discovered you guys)

If anybody can help, i'll have to put your name in the website's "powered by" section... Once it is online!

Answer:Filezilla "EAI_FAIL" and "EACCES - Permission denied"

try some of these tests for TCP connectivity

Ping using an address shows connections are working.

Ping using a domain.name shows that DNS lookup is working as well as connectivity.

Nslookup does name resolution by both address and name

Filezilla is a FTP tool and apparently has both client and server support.
Windows/* already has FTP Client support (start->run->ftp),
so why use Filezilla?

Hello,
Both my computer and my husbands run Windows Vista. On both we have mozilla and I.E. 7. For the last 2 weeks I have been unable to access by online bill paying feature of my banking site. I can log in to my account as well as other sites that require user id and password, but when I got to the pay bills section (I think this has a different security than the rest of the site) I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage, most likely causes, you are not connected to the internet, the website is encountering problems, there might be a typing error in the address" In Mozilla I get "Address Not Found" and on the bottom right I have a lock with a red circle with a white ! that says "Warning: Contains unauthenicated content". I've contacted the bank but they were no help because everyone else seems to be fine.

I have tried:
Uninstalling Mozilla to just have IE in case of software conflict
Reseting IE to factory settings
Running IE with add ons off
Reducing security and privacy to lowest setting
Adding the website to my trusted sites

Accessing site with start up programs disabled
Accessing site with firewall, spyware detector, antivirus off

I wanna open up ports 6881-6999 (I bet some of you know why... speeds don't go over 10kbps ) so I thought I'd learn how. I tried all the directions I found, but everything haults when I get to entering my default gateway into my web browser. I always get hit with a "User Name" and "Password" bar. I tried putting "admin" in only the user name bar, only in the password bar, in both bars, but I never get through. This is the only thing stopping me from changing ports on my router and it's really irritating.

I hope someone can help me. and if it helps, I have a Westell router.

Answer:I can't access my "Linksys" router site thing...

There may be a hardware reset button you push in with a pen on the router. You can press this and it will reset it to factory settings and hopefully allow you to change password. Maybe someone changed your password? Did you have WEP or WPA enabled? If not you may have been hacked.

This morning when I attempted to use my computer, any application (IE, OE, everything) I tried to start gave an error message (paraphrasing) “Insufficient resources exist to complete the requested task.” I thought a reboot was in order and when attempting that got “you do not have permission to shut down this computer” or something similar.

After unplugging and rebooting everything seems normal, but I’m going to run AV, anti-spyware and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Event log shows an error at the same time “the server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty”. Server? I’m not networked to a server….I’m sure it means something else, but what?

Recent software changes: Deleting MS Antispyware due to inability to upgrade to their new Beta 2 Defender (something do to with GDI, which I tried to fix by following info on the MS site), and downloading some critical updates from MS.

I’ve done searches on the errors and the answers don’t apply. I’ll probably revert my HD with an application called GoBack if the scans don’t find anything but thought you people might know what caused this.

Win2K is my OS.

I'll be checking for responses as I can't get response notices due to my ISP.

Thanks in advance,
Randall

Just wondering if this is expected behavior, we've just completed upgrade from v1.7 to v1.8 (all gateways successfully updated) however we notice that we are unable to open our console site.  Not sure if this is expected because we intentionally
ran a "partial" update and will not see new data for 3 weeks (- but we'd expect to at least see our splash page for ATA, we don't just a blank white page) or if we need to take further steps.

Thanks.

No, assigning them through WinExplorer menu does not work.
But this is another problem which should not discussed here.

When I type now one of the following alternative commands at the CommandPrompt then Win7 returns me something like:

assoc .txt=txtfile

"Access denied"
The following error occurs: .txt"

Hi
I have recently updated to the creator version
My files end up in unintended destinations. When I click in the documents tab in the sidebar of the documents screen, it takes me to a ?Documents? folder that appears in ?One Drive? group. Any files that I send from my desktop end up there
Those files are also shown when I open the first ?Documents? folder that appears in the ?Quick Access? group. I have similar problems with ?Pictures? folders
I have attached screen shots that I hope will explain. I want all my files of any description to end up in the ?Documents? folder contained in the ?This PC? group. Can anyone help please?
Incidentally, I don?t understand the purpose of ?One Drive?, and don?t believe that I will have a use for it. Can I remove/disable it?

Friends:

I am having problems with XP Home Networking. My situation is like this: I have two PCs running fully updated XP Pro and a Belkin wireless router connected to a Motorola Surfboard cable modem. PC1 is hardwired directly to the router. PC2 connects to the router through a Belking PCI wireless card. Both can connect to the internet. The Home Network Wizard has been run on both using the same settings. When opening My Network Places, however, only PC2 can see its own shared folders. When I try to "View workgroup computers" on PC1, I get a message that says "<workgroup> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource." ... and so on. When I try to repair the Local Area Connection of PC1, I get a message that says "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address." ... etc. Any of the above works successfully with PC2. Obviously the problem lies within PC1.

When I run ipconfig on PC1, I get the following:

Ok, I have been struggling with this for hours... Let’s see what you guys come up with...

Ok we have a 2003 domain with 3 DC's, one member server FileServer is having some issue with most of its system services. The following services will not start:

RPC
TCP/IP helper
DNS Client
and a hand ful of others

Wont start automatically. Attempts to start them manually result in Access Denied messages. I looked into the default comain policy (which applies to these member servers) and i looked that the "system Services" settings and all of the services have "permissions" ad "Not configured". We are not having this issue on any other member server, so it is localized only to this one server. I have tried a GPUPDATE /force and I see in the event viewer:

Answer:Mbam showing "unable to access update server"

Hi:

>>Disclaimer: NOT yet running Win10 & NOT Malwarebytes staff - just a long-time MBAM home user and forum volunteer (@daledoc1).

There are many possible reasons for that error message.
These include: installing and/or running MBAM from an LUA; software conflict; inaccurate system date/time; malware; server glitch; system networking issues, etc.

Without a bit more information, it's hard to say for sure.

MBAM should be installed & configured from an Admin account.
However, if you installed and/or are running MBAM from an LUA, then there is a known issue with updating from that LUA with the current version.
You may wish to try the fix HERE.
It has resolved the issue for many of the handful of users reporting this behavior.
A more permanent fix will be provided with a future version release, due "soonish".

If that doesn't explain or resolve your issue, then you might want to head over to the MBAM forum HERE.
We'll be happy to assist you with some routine troubleshooting to get you back up and running properly.

Thanks,

MM

Hello,

I am trying to configure Remote Desktop Access to work over the internet.
Remote Desktop Access works on my local network.

Both of my computers are on Windows 7 Professionnal. My router is a Belkin F9K1002.

I followed the official widows tutorial. I forwarded the necessary port on my router (I switched from port 3389 to 50000, in case 3389 was blocked by my isp).

Every time I try to connect I get

"Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1)Remote access to the server is not enabled
2)The remote computer is turned off
1)The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."

Any ideas as to where the problem could be coming from?

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a problem with the internet, but only on my Windows 7 PCs.

Every now and then, my web access will stop for a minute or so and pages won't load. I get the "Server Not Found" message in Firefox and if I open up IE, I get the equivalent message.

I'm sure it's not a hardware problem as it only statred happening on my PCs since I switched to Windows 7, but it doesn't happen on my wife's XP laptop. In fact, if the web access drops, I can go over to the laptop and the pages will load without a hitch.

Overall internet access to the PCs is fine: I can be downloading a rapidshare file in the background, and the web will stop working but the rapidshare download won't be affected.

I'm unsure as to whether it's the same as this problem, this problem or something else. Either way, I'd appreciate some advice on the best direction to go in.

Thanks!

Any ideas?

I dont suspect you are having a dns problem. More likely it is your "homegroup" IPv6 problem. Homegroup is supposed to be win 7 machines only. In mixed environments you should be using "workgroup" and its IPv4.

Pretty easier to change. just make a new network connection using workgroup and when it is up and running disable IPv6.

Dear Geeks - I have done most of your recommendations trying to get rid of a virus that changes my homepage to topsecuritysite DOT com/ and continually sends me virus warnings and popups eg. "Error Safe" "Adpunisher" "your computer is infected! System detected virus activities" "Your system has critical errors, click here to fix them" type messages. I have run Spybot and Ad-Aware SE. One of the offending programs (not picked up by either of these two) seems to be something called 'Ultimate Defender' which when I try to use Add/remove programs, it won't let me remove it. I have run a 'Hijack this' scan and can send you the notepad file if this will help. It's just hard to know what to trust when the virus is telling me it will save me from viruses! I have never had a virus before - my techie dad advised me to try Hijack This.
Please help if you can.

Answer:"Top Security Site" and countless "anti" virus pop-ups

Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Please do not post click-able links to anything that has infected your computer. To do so you are increasing the likelihood of spreading the infection to anyone who inadvertently clicks the link.

HijackThis is not a malware removal tool it is simply a tool that may or may not help identify some of the things that are infecting your computer and it then has the ability to remove those registry entries. It is used as a final step as it does not show everything.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Greetings,

I have seen this at multiple workplaces. It goes like this:

1) Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office are included on dedicated VDIs and terminal servers/RDS

2) Everything works fine, users are able to open documents without any problems from local server drives as well as mapped network drives and e-mail attachments

3) After some time, the problem starts:

- Users are unable to open Microsoft Office-type files from network drives or e-mail attachments and receive an error that the computer may be out of memory or out of diskspace (even though it clearly isn't!)
- Users are unable to open PDF files getting an access denied message from Adobe Reader

Solution? Completely disable Protected Mode in MSO programs and also in Adobe Reader.

This is driving me bonkers and I have almost no hair left. I really hope someone can help.

When I attempt to copy or move a file or folder from my Win7 box to my WinXP (SP3) media server, the operation nearly always fails. Take, for example, my trying to copy the VLC Media Player folder (704 files, 75.1 MB) from Program Files on Win7 to the C: drive on the media server via a mapped drive (X). In all cases, after hanging up at some point during the copy, I get this message:

Network Error
There is a problem accessing X:\<whatever current sub-folder copying is>
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again

I should note here that you only see the message come up if you wait for it (~1 min) after the copy hangs. If you try to cancel the hung copy before the message comes up, you can crash explorer.exe. I must also stress that there are no other access problems on the network. Files on the media server are accessible as expected from the Win7 box. Performing the same copy in reverse ("pulling" the same folder to the XP box from its console instead of "pushing" from Win7) works perfectly. All machines are in WORKGROUP and the same exact credentials are in use on all machines. All machines run the same version of Symantec Endpoint Protection and have firewall rules configured to allow all LAN traffic. All machines are connected through a Linksys SD2005 5-port GB "dumb" switch. Routing/DHCP is provided by a D-Link DI-604. ... Read more

I am a database programmer. I publish a client-server application. I have a client who is adding Win7 Pro workstations to their existing network, which at the present time consists of WinXP workstations talking to a Windows Server 2008 R2.

The application needs to be able to create and destroy temporary files on the server. The XP workstations have no problem doing this, so the server permissions are set correctly. However, the Win7 workstation is unable to create the files as needed. The same user and folders are being used, so the only difference is the workstation OS.

The folders are visible and can be accessed; the application runs, and can read and write existing files on the server, it just can't create/destroy files there.

I am not able to recreate the problem here, but I do not have anywhere near as sophisticated a network so I can't truly reproduce their environment.

We've looked through everything we can think of. Where are we not looking?

Answer:Win7 Pro - "create" access to server

How are you passing the user credentials to the server and does the user have Full Permissions, which is required to create and delete files.

OK fellow "computer-holics", here's a difficult one for ya. I have a user who e-mailed me the following:

I recently built a call log database in Access 2007 for my team to use when calling agents on our top errors we see from a vendor's error report. My boss is requesting a report to see how many items have been resolved

I have a query started and I am trying to complete this task in a single query (if possible) instead of several queries (as I've done for a couple other things).

I have 3 tables I'm using: Assignment, AgtInfo and CallLog
Joins as follows: Assignment.st=AgtInfo.agcy_st
AgtInfo.agt_id=CallLog.agt_id

Fields in the results: Assignment.assigned_analyst, CallLog.rpt_mnth, CallLog.resolved

Resolved is a yes/no field. I've done a query that converts the -1 to a 1, so that the sum is a positive number for the "Yes" values. I'm not sure how to enter the expression to subract the "Yes" values from the total number of values (yes/no) to get to my "No" count.

Essentially, I'd like the results to display as:

assigned_analyst, rpt_mnth, CountYes_resolved, CountNo_resolved

Somehow the connection is just not clicking in my brain with everything I've read though searches. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:Solved: Access 2007 Query: Return count of "Yes" and "No" values for Analyst/Report M

It is easier to add another column to counf the Nos, use
0 or is null
as the IIf statement and use a 1 to count them

Hello,

I have an Asus Netbook 1005P, running Windows 7, SP1, with Internet Explorer 11.

I am often but not always, experiencing the following issue:

When I attempt to connect to Wifi at a café, the "Wireless Network Connection" for the Network shows "Connected", yet there is no Internet access. Placing the pointer over the Connection icon in the Notification Area displays:

"Unidentified Network No Internet Access".
(The network in question always has an SSID shown in the Wireless Network Connection list.)

This issue occurs whether I am running only the Windows firewall, or am only running the firewall that I prefer which is Comodo.

For antivirus I have Avast Pro (with its "web shield" currently disabled) and so far as this issue is concerned it makes no difference whether this Avast component is enabled or disabled, or whether I disable all Avast Shields.

When this issue occurs, there are often other customers in the café connected to the café wifi and also using the Internet.

I have to ask the café to reset, or turn off and then turn back on, their router, yet other customers do not have to do this to get Internet connection!

This is the issue at whatever café, to whose Wifi I attempt to connect.

Please help with a solution to this issue.

I added a slave drive to my Windows XP Pro computer, and it appears to work properly.

However, when I open the "Documents and Settings" folder (on the slave drive E:\, which is Windows XP Home Edition -- not XP Pro), I do not see any of my documents, sub-folders, etc. There should be MANY sub-folders (inside the "My Documents" folder which isn't even visible), with hundreds of documents, jpgs, etc. within it.

When that drive is installed as the Primary drive in my other computer, the User "Larry" (which is me) has all Administrative privileges. On the computer that I'm running now (with the slave drive in it), I also have Administrator privileges. I own both computers.

My User Name "Larry" is password-protected when I login to Windows (when the drive is Primary and installed into my main computer (not this computer with XP Pro).

I've tried clicking on all the users; Administrator, Default User, Larry, Guest, etc. (Note: I get an "Access Denied" error when clicking on the Guest "Documents and Settings" folder).

So, the questions are:

1. Why can't I see any files or subdirectories in the "Documents and Settings" folder on the slave drive?

2. There's supposed to be a folder named "My Documents," but I can't find it. Normally, that path is "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents".
--- Where is that folder? It contains all the files I'm looking for.

Hi
I'm currently trying to finalise group policy settings for my Windows 8 students. All seems to be going well except, I cant for the life of me find out hide to hide 2 remaining items under "This PC", these being the "Access
Media" & "Add a Network Location" icons on the File ribbon (image below), can anyone help please.

Answer:Hide "Access Media" & "Add a Network Location" icons using Group Policy

Hi,
I think we can deploy script with set-acl powershell command to take ownership with Administrator of following keys, and set Deny permission on Users:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\Windows.AddMediaServer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\Windows.AddNetworkLocation

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Anyone tried deleting a registry key in Windows 7?  Got "access denied" or "Error while deleting key"?
The usual response is, "You need to run regedit as an administrator".  but I *AM* logged in as Administrator, and running regedit as administrator, trying to assign administrator full permissions on that registry key in order to delete it!!
Am I mistaken, or isn't Administrator supposed to be able to administer and control all the settings on the computer, in order to set it up for the "Average Joe" user?
So, under the permissions menu of that key, go to advanced, change the owner from System to Administrator, and try again.  It's no longer saying "access denied", but "Cannot delete xxxxxx. Error while deleting key".

The scenario: Basically, the wireless has stopped working on a laptop. The device does not show up in Device Manager, but is in the registry, so the normal procedure is to delete the registry entry for the device in HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet (and /ControlSet001) /Enum/PCI    ,then attach the device or restart the computer, it finds the "new" hardware and reinstalls it. Easy!...

Not with permission restrictions on the administrator account it's not!  So I need to give myself permission, to give myself permission, to do a simple task like delete a single registry key!  Why, Microsoft, why???!!!  Please just make the Administrator accoun... Read more

In Oulook Express (but I'm assuiming this is an issue in other email clients) my question is, what exactly happens when I "delete" a message from my inbox, in the TWO different cases depending on the setting for "leave a copy on the server"?
I want to have this setting checked on all my computers, and I will be responsible for deleting (on the SERVER, NOT just in my local copy on one computer) unwanted messages. My friend claims that a "delete" of a msg in my inbox only removes the local copy (when the "leave a copy" is checked). But I want to be able to delete on the SERVER, from any of my computers, so that the msg doesn't "come back" on another computer (sort of like what web-based email does, only I want this behavior with SMTP/POP). He says that to do this, I must have the "leave a copy" unchecked on at least one computer (of course in that case, getting the messages amounts to a server delete without any other specific "delete" action by me). But that means that I can't later get ANY of the msgs that were pulled by another of my computers, because all those msgs (not just the ones I want to delete) were deleted on the server. I don't mind having my various computers slightly out of sync (I can always sync them if needed) but I would like messages I DON'T delete to stay on the server. If I keep them ONLY in my local inbox, or copy to another local folder, I won't be able t... Read more

Answer:OE: what does "delete" do, depending on "leave a copy on the server"?

OK. Essentially this is how it works with POP3 mail that you are using. When mail is sent to your email address it gets stored in your ISP's mail server. You then connect to that server and download the mail off of the server onto your machine. Once the mail is on your machine, it is no longer left on the ISP's mail server.

That is the default behaviour but can be changed. If you go into your Account/Advanced tab and specify to leave the mail on the server, when you download the mail to your local machine, a copy will still be left on your server.

In both situations if you delete a message from your inbox, it will have no affect whatsoever on the mail on the server and will be deleted.

Now if you want to make it so that you can manage your mail and have the same mail on all computers, specify on each computer that the mail should be left on the server. Then if your ISP has a webmail interface, which almost all do, use that interface to clean up the already received email.

If there is no web interface, then your friend is right and you will need one machine to remove the mail from the server.

I have "SERVER", alive and well, even after installing SP3.
I really don't use it though and have it set to "Manual".

I just checked and I was able to 'Start' and 'Stop' Server.

Hi I get the following error when attempting to access my drive,
"You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder."
Upon clicking Continue, another error pops up,
"You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab."
Security tab is an underlined link that opens the properties manager for the drive however there is no security tab, I assume because the flash drive is considered a virtual drive, which is typical, so I can't take ownership of the drive as suggested by all the Google searches I did.

Anyone knows how to solve this? Thanks.

I'm running a Dell Dimension 5150 that recently updated the graphics card from the stock card to an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT and NAV 2009, if that helps any. The adapter I'm having an issue with is a Linksys 2.4 GHz adapter (802.11g).

There are two computers running on my newtork; the above-mentioned machine and a new Mac running Leopard. The PROBLEM (at last): the Mac runs on the same network without so much as a hiccup, and my PC is stuck between "Acquiring Network Address" and being unable to connect with the access point entirely, starting the cycle all over again. Before the graphics card upgrade and the installation of Norton, this wasn't a problem.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've hit a problem with Windows XP, I've looked around and I haven't been able to find anywhere which offers a potential solution, so I really hope somebody here can help!

This hit my computer without warning, I switched it on this morning and it worked as normal, I was using Google Chrome, in order to browse websites that were free of spyware (the Guardian at time of crash) all of a sudden things started to freeze up. I restarted the computer, and now a lot of programs are refusing to open - Microsoft Office, among others, states "Error: There Are No More Files", whilst other programs such as Google Chrome and Internet Explorer state "Attempt to Access From Invalid Address", even when I am running them from their root folders.

As I've stated I am running a Dell Latitude 830 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.00GHz, 2M L2 Cache, 800MHz) Dual Core, 1.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS, Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and am obviously using Windows XP. I have scanned my system with Avast Antivirus, which didn't state that there were any viruses, so I am stuck as to what exactly the problem is.

Thanks for reading! I really hope that somebody can help..

I couldn't find such tweak.. This is a major issue to me. I need the "Favorites" pane back where i can drop whatever i want. I use that daily! I can't stay on 10 without it. Also, about updates, i saw there are tweaks to stop forced updates but then how is it? Do you get to choose what you want, one by one, like in the previous Windows? Please tell me, thanks!

Answer:Can i get back "Favorites" in place of "Quick access"? And updates..

You still have "Favorites"...just right click a folder or file and click "Pin to Quick Access".

If you don't want your recently used files and folders to appear there, uncheck the respective check boxes in Folder Options (it's under privacy).

Hello Jayrrus, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I would recommend that you use Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper to scan your system with at boot to help make sure that your system is malware free first.

Afterwards, you might see if you may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you had these issues to see if that may be able to fix them.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I just tried to install the latest iTunes update, but keep getting an error when it tries to access the C:\Program Files\iPod folder.

When I try to access the iPod folder directly through Windows Explorer, I get "Access is denied".

The same happens when logged in with the system administrator account.

When I right-click the folder and choose Properties > Security, the Current owner field shows "Unable to display current owner." And it won't allow either of the listed administrator accounts to take ownership.

When I choose Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner, the Current owner field also shows "Unable to display current owner." And it won't allow me to Edit it either.

I've tried opening the Command Prompt as the administrator, and deleting the folder, but it won't allow me to do that either.

Any ideas on how to forcefully take ownership and/or delete this folder?

Answer:"Access is denied" - "Unable to display current owner"

Check in the file security tab that there isn't a deny entry for the user group "everybody"

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I built a new system (64 bit windows 7) and would like to copy some files over from my old HD which was Windows XP 32bit. The old hard drive is healthy and functioning correctly.

I'm greeted with the all too well known message "You currently don't have permission to access this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder."

When I click continue it tells me: "You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab."
I've googled around, I've searched this forum and others. And I'm getting more and more confused. I read different instructions and many warnings of impending doom if you do something wrong which will leave the HD inaccessible! Yikes.

Here are just a few of the things I've read:

Permission issues. Fed up with "You do not have permission to....."

Taken ownership of files on old hard drive, still unable to open.

Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

Take Ownership Shortcut

Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups
While I was more courageous a while ago I tried different ways to gain access and I have access to a few folders here and there within the drive but I'd like to take ownership of the hard drive completely once and for all so that I don't have to keep seeing that error message.
I'd really appreciate help on this issue! I'm more than happy to provide screenshots or more info if required.

Thank you in advance!

Hey all, I just upgraded from Win7 RC to Win7 Ultimate, and now when I try to save a picture to my second hard drive where all my pictures are stored, I get a permissions error from MS:

"you don't have permission to save in this location", and then it offers to redirect me to 'my pictures'.

I have tried going into security and resetting the owner to myself. I have also looked around for this on the google, and the most common fixes are:

1. run the program as administrator. Well, I am trying to save out of Firefox. do I need to run firefox as admin? this doesn't seem right, but maybe it's the answer.
2. Turn off UAC. I don't know if this is a good idea either, and would rather not, unless you guys think it's the best way.
3. (from MS): copy all data from the existing drive to another location, reformat existing drive, then copy info back. I am not doing this for 1TB of data.
4. (from MS) Save the file into 'my pictures', then move to final location. And MS wonders why people think windows is stupid???

Am I missing some stupid checkbox somewhere? I just want to remove restrictions from my second HD.

Thanks

did you verify that you also have full control?

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I purchased and installed an Iomega 34766 NAS yesterday. I have three machines that run Windows 7 (2 - Ulitmate 32bit & 64bit; 1 - Professional 32bit) and a Windows xp machine.

I am having trouble getting the Windows 7 Professional 32bit machine to show the NAS as a computer under the network folder. It will show the NAS as a Media Device and Other device. I can access the device as a media device, but when I click other device, it opens a IE browser and errors out. I have not been able to map the device in windows explorer either. This NAS has a print server built in and it will not show the printer either.

My other two Windows 7 Ultimate 32 & 64 bit (Desktop-Windows & HTPC) machines work just fine and the NAS shows under the computer and media device and does not show as other device. The printer pluged in the NAS works like a charm.

The primary computer that I need to work is the windows 7 professional version (LPC-PC) thats not working.

I posted a screen shot of what I am looking at from the computer that does not work and one of the machines that is working.

As a side note, LPC-PC is my laptop and it is the machine that is not working. Desktop-Windows and HTPC are the two machines that it is working just fine on.

I am able to connect to LPC-PC from Desktop-Windows; however I can not connect to Desktop-Windows from LPC-PC.

When I first started messing with LPC-PC it was not even showi... Read more

Answer:NAS shows as "Media Server" and "Other Device"

Well I solved my own problem and feel a little silly. I just happened to check my msconfig.exe and I had it set to selective startup with the first option for services unchecked.

Everything is now up and running. My NAS is showing and I can connect to all my computers.

I need to get a GbE NIC for an older computer that will run as a server (OS undecided). In my shopping, I find that some cards are labeled as "server" cards and some "desktop" cards; there appear to be two versions of some cards.

What's the difference? Reliability, driver support, performance, features...?

Example:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA67D2511066
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4B42831248

Answer:difference between "server" and "desktop" NICs?

Honestly? Stick with one made by Intel. Best drivers, best performance. The "direct from asia" ones are on my shit list as of late.

Hey, I am really hoping someone can help me solve this problem, it's driving me up the wall!
When I started using my computer this morning everything was fine, and then "no network access" kept appearing, along with "limited connection/connectivity". I would troubleshoot the problem, but then at the end of the troubleshoot it would freeze, and my screen went black, so I had to turn my computer off and then on again. This problem has persisted throughout the day, I've googled it but nothing really the same as this has turned up .. if someone could please please help me, I'd really appreciate it!

Answer:"No Network Access" and "Limited Connection/Connectivity" ?

Hi Caoimhe123

My name is Riyazuddin and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell

If its a wired connection - I suggest you to try using a different ethernet cable and check,
If its a wireless connection - Try to get to the router as close as possible and check,

Please specify the type of connection, model of the router, OS and the wireless card your using and reply back

Regards
Riyazuddin M

New to the forum, hoping to find answers or new ideas to try...
My Win7 OS computer has problems seeing my WD network drives most of the time. I'll say up front that my Macbook, my Windows XP laptops, all other computers of various types in my house see and access these drives just fine, but the one with Windows 7 Pro will not. It occasionally will see and access them for short periods of random time though, which really has me baffled. These drives are right on the same network switch as the Win7 computer.

The scenario goes like this:click on the drive name to view contents... 20 or so seconds pass, popup says "Windows cannot access \\drive-name".
I try the second NAS drive, same thing.
I try the "diagnose" feature to no avail. I've even explored some of the "explore additional options" suggestions to no avail.
I can ping the IP addresses of both these drives all day long and they respond without fail.
Weird thing is that very occasionally I will click the drive and the file folders show up and I can transfer files, or whatever I want, for a short random period of time.
I swear, this problem is driving me crazy! I've been resorting to using a flash drive to transfer files on this computer's HD to the WD network drives via an XP OS computer, or via the Macbook. I like Windows 7 other than this very frustrating problem.
Soooo... any ideas or suggestions? Anyone else have this issue and figured it out??
TIA for any and all comment... Read more

Answer:"Windows Cannot Access" my WD "My Book Live" NAS drives

have you tried to access it via the IP address rather than hostname? It may be DNS causing an issue

For example in the Windows Explorer navigation bar type the following

\\{IP address}\share

Have you tried to map the drive at all?

Hello everyone,I've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both so :/Please help ^^

Answer:"Access Limited" or "No Internet Connection" windows 8.1

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to device manager, expand "Network Adapters" and find out the make of your card and post here, while you are in Device Manager, right click wireless adapter, click properties, select "Advanced" tab, select "Auto" from the drop down ( as in 2nd snip) for 802.11n Channel width for 2.4.

Hey folks,

I am currently trying to move "This PC" to the top of the navigation pane, or - alternatively - move the "Quick Access" to the very bottom.

Is there any possible way?

I have found (and used) ways for every other entry, but not those 2. I have even stupidly tried to apply the "SortOrderIndex" on random for both, without success.

Every input will be appreciated :-)

Cheers

Jan

I seriously need help! Obviously I got some kinf of virus ( found both krepper and exploit's ) and my pc is not
working. The problem is that everything is working terribly slow (if at all) and i don't get response when i try to access "my computer" or "add or remove programs". My computer shows message "program is not responding" - add or remove does not show anything at all.
It might be there is still a virus, trojan or malware in the system but all scans now end up with nothing. Can anybody please help???

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Unable to access "my computer" and "add or remove programs".
