I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Ideapad 700 15ISK . My keyboard dosen't acknowledge certain keys which is quite frustrating, such as the @ key but also others. I have to restart the laptop to correct this. Also, I have to press the NUM LOCK key in order to use the numberpad which seems the wrong way around.  Any suggestions?

Some keys on the keyboard aren't working at all. I assumed it was just the keyboard coming to the end of it's life so I bought a new keyboard. With the new keyboard the exact same keys don't work. Does anyone know whether it is possible to replace the keyboard connector on the system board or will it need a whole new motherboard? Also does anyone know how much this much cost?

Many thanks

Answer:Keyboard not working correctly on A60

Hi

You have suggested that some keys on the keyboard don?t work correctly.
Did the keys get stuck or what is happened? Did you connect the cable properly after keyboard changing?
As far as I know the keyboard controller is fixed mounted on the board and it?s not possible to replace only this part.

Answer:Alienware R4 Keyboard not working correctly

Hi RON2716,
Is there any damage / liquid spillage on the system?
Does an external keyboard work fine?
When did the issue with the specified keys start? When you received the system, was there any damage on the box?
Update the BIOS - restart and check.
Restart in safe mode and check.
If the issue persists, then based on your region and warranty, we can setup a service call and replace the part if required.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I upgraded a 2 week old HP laptop from windows 7 to windows 8 and all seemed to go well.

After finishing, though, my keyboard doesn't work correctly. In most programs and on webpages, the number keys do not work nor do the special characters accessed through the shift key. Sometimes they act like the space bar, other times they repeat the previously typed alpha character. All works perfectly in MSWord, however.

The numbers on the keypad do work in all programs.

I've checked the control panel and can't find any settings that appear to influence this - no accessibility settings, nothing.

Any ideas?

Answer:[SOLVED] Laptop keyboard not working correctly

Hello Walshie616, and welcome to TSF!

Is your keyboard layout set according to the country it was made for (for instance AZERTY for a French keyboard)?

Do you use multiple keyboard layouts, perhaps you're in the wrong one (happens to me all the time, using two layouts!)

I've had my Toshiba since last May and have always had a problem with typing capital M. Each time I do this and it has happened as I typed May, it moves all following letters to anywhere in the preceeding text. As a touch typist I find this particularly annoying as it is often two or three paragraphs before I notice what has happened. It is alos very very inconvenient as I have to type a lot slower than I would normally do.

Has anyone else encountered this specific problem? If so, what were you able to do to resolve it? I have tried using a test version of Windows 7 as well as other types of software so am fairly confident this is not a software problem.

So we replaced the screen on my boyfriends laptop (Samsung 300V3A - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1, x64-based, Intel core i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30 GHz, 2300Mhz)

and after replacing the screen we noticed the keyboard was not working properly AT ALL!

"QWERTY" come's out as "XD !~"
attaching a USB keyboard works perfectly! and before replacing the screen everything worked fine as well. (he would connect it to his TV and skype me while i was away on buisiness )

We had a friend who was more familiar with screen replacement do the job for us, and he is stumped by this as well. Anyone got any suggestions?? if you need more info on the computer specs let me know and i will post them asap (just let me know how to access them) we are willing to replace the keyboard, but if there is another solution i would rather go that route.

Thanks!

Hey, I'm using a thinkpad X-131e with a Ubuntu/Win-7 dualboot setup. A week ago after I upgraded Ubuntu from 13.4 to 13.10, or very shortly after, my keyboard stopped working properly. Now some keys (E,U,H,6,F2,F4) don't work at all(with a beep sound in Windows), while other keys have different results. (Q goes to ^, W to F1, R to 5, I to , O to F8, P to (On the german setup, on a US layout the switches stay the same))This error appears in Windows, Ubuntu, ubuntu booted from a USB-Drive and in Bios. I upgraded the BIOS to the newest version without result. The laptop did not recieve any damage that I am aware of. I am thinking about setting up the system again, combined with a reset of the BIOS, but wanted to ask of other ideas before. Thanks for any help

Answer:X131e Keyboard/keys not working correctly

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that a few keys of your Lenovo ThinkPad X131e is not working properly.

Check if the keys are working in different applications. Some keys such as the function keys F1 through F12 will not work with every program. An easy way to test this is to open notepad or other word processing program and trying the key. Try getting into safe mode and see if the keys work. Remove the key from the keyboard and clean it. In some situations dirt, hair, dust, etc. can obstruct keys causing them not to work.

Please try to get into BIOS mode and see if the keyboard is working there.
1. If you are able to use the keyboard in BIOS, it could be a software issue. I would recommend in that case to do a System Restore which will revert the settings in your system to a previous time.
2. If keyboard doesn?t respond in BIOS as well, I strongly suggest you to contact our technical support for assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,
Mithun.

b, n, caps lock, delete, 7 on the numpad side of my laptop, f1, f8, f12 have all suddenly stopped working.

I do not know why these keys in particular.

Answer:keys aren't working correctly(Using on screen keyboard)

Sounds like it could be a mechanical fault Keyboards work as a matrix of switches and if there is a problem with the interconnections it can sometimes cause apparently random failures such as yours. If you were getting the wrong characters I would suspect a software issue, (which of cause it still may be),

My best advice is to see if you can find a local Tech that gives free estimates for repairs and let them diagnose it for you, if you were dealing with a desktop it would be a simple swap out of the keyboard but laptops are not that easy to either get at the keyboard to check/change or to pick up a keyboard for testing.

I don't know if this a problem with my hardware or software of the laptop.

I've had this problem for months now.

It has to do with my SHIFT button. Every time I press it and press on another key, it acts as if it's a different command.

For example,

Shift + 1, which should give an exclamation mark, gives the command of Esc.

Shift + U, gives the command of Undo.

Shift + E gives the command of PageUp.

Shift + i gives the command of F11

Shift + _(underscore) adds a space before the underscore.

...... The list is longer.

It also affects other programs i use, such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. In those programs, Shift + other keys act as commands such as F7, F8, Ctrl + t.
I don't know what to do, or what the problem is. My laptop is virus-free and has been for a long time.

Please, what can I do about this? How do I even begin to fix this?

thank you.

Hey guys, I'm new here, and I want to ask you how to fix it? (the title says it all), it's not even work in the BIOS menu (well i can't even enter it :v)
I'm using windows 7 64-bit, I am typing with my father's laptop. Sorry for my bad english, anyway Thanks.
(And because I'm new here, i don't know if this is in the right or wrong section XD )

Answer:Acer Aspire E1-431 Keyboard is not working at all (All key).

Try using the keyboard on another computer and see if it works. If it's a USB keyboard, you should be able to use it on your father's laptop. If NO keys work on EITHER computer, the laptop is most likely ready for the garbage dump. I suppose you could try opening it up and cleaning it, but if it's not a very expensive keyboard I wouldn't even bother. Just replace it.

(i'm going to try and explain this the best i can)My Acer Aspire E15 laptop's keyboard has stopped working so I'm typing this with an external keyboard. I've only had this laptop it for a little over a year and having the keyboard just stop working is very dissapointing and a little frustrating. Anyway, I was wondering if there was any possibility of getting this repaired, because I've been informed that the keyboards of these laptops are connected to the motherboard in a way that would require getting a whole new motherboard just to replace the keyboard. I don't know if this is true or if there is anyway to repair my keyboard without replacing the whole **bleep** motherboard, so if anyone knows it would be awesome if you could help me out.

Answer:Acer Aspire E15 keyboard not working?

Not sure where they got that info. However you can replace the keyboard. That does take some doing. But I think a person would most likely replace the whole top part. That is track pad and all. I would say look on eBay for you type and see if they have any. When you take apart you remove power, battery, 14 or 16 screws from the bottom. Remove drive from the bay. Use old credit card to separate the 2 half. Then there is some ribbon cables that would need to be removed carefully. If you got the whole thing. Then put in New one same way you took out old. However if you just got the keyboard you will bee to take out 8 to 10 more screws peeling tape from the ribbon cables and to access the small screws then the keyboard can be removed. For me I would try and find whole top plate would be less work.James

I'm pretty sure my Aspire PS-131 is an All In One rather than a notebook. Feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place. This morning, seemingly all of a sudden, my PS-131's bluetooth keyboard stopped working. I charged it until the light turned blue, but the tablet no longer registers the keyboard on the Bluetooth screen. Sometimes an Unknown device will appear on the bluetooth screen, but I can't connect to it.  I have no idea what to do and I can't find anything online about it. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone else have an idea about where to begin? I've tried contacting Acer's live chat, but the serial number on my tablet isn't verifiable.

Hello, I have an Acer laptop running on Windows 7 and the other day I spilled something on it while cooking. After cleaning it off (just with a cloth) most of the keys wouldn't work. The ones that did didn't wok correctly, i.e 'u' would be 'bu' and so on. The next day, none of the keys worked. I cleaned it with hand sanitizer, and some worked, but again there were messed up 'double keys.' It now seems that they are almost all dissasociated from their original keys. Like, F9 is now spacebar, 7 is enter, etc. I've already restored the computer to factory settings the way it was when I bought it, but its the same. How do you reset the keys?

Answer:Acer laptop Keyboard not working

Your problem is that the contacts on the underside are not clean and the small currents that make the contacts now are bleeding between contacts and causing unexpected results like the double entrys and changed entrys. The only way to fix this is to remove the battery, disassemble the lower computer parts, remove the keyboard and either clean all of the contacts and other sticky surfaces carefully with alcohol, or replace the keyboard and clean all other sticky surfaces. For MOST, this is a job for a professional. Tell him EXCATLY what happened so he knows what the job entails. This will probably not be an inexpensive repair and if it were an older machine it might not pay, but for a fairly new machine that otherwise works well, it probably pays. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I can use the keyboard when starting in safe mode but not when windows starts??? The Tried reinstalling the driver but didn't work

Answer:Acer Aspire keyboard is not working

When Safe Mode works properly but Normal Mode does not, it typically means that a driver or some software has just been installed that is interfering with Normal Mode. The types of software that can do that are drivers, antivirus products, third-party firewall products, CD/DVD burning software or virtual CD/DVD software. If you can remember installing anything like that, uninstall it in Safe Mode then restart.

To troubleshoot the issue, check if reinstalling keyboard drivers help (if you have not done this already). To do this, follow the steps below:1. Click "Windows key" + "R" keys and click Ok to open "Run" window.2. In the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and click OK.3. In the "Device Manager" window that comes up, navigate to "Keyboards" and expand the tree. Click on your keyboard model and properties window will come up.4. Go to "Driver" tab and click "Uninstall" to uninstall your keyboard drivers.5. Restart your system and Windows will automatically find and install your keyboard drivers. If the issue still persists, you are advised to contact nearest Acer service center for further assistance as your laptop is new. I would suggest you perform a system restore to when it was working, it could just be a recent update that caused the issue to start occurring.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and have a request for help,

I have an Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG with the following spec:

Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG NX.RYKEK.010

Except i'm running windows 7 and have just the 500GB HD on its own.

I only have had it since christmas and have been VERY happy with its performance so far...

BUT lastnight I switched it on and the keyboard and touchpad is completely unresponsive, when I went into control panel-hardware-keyboard there was a red "x" symbol beside it and when I ran a diagnostic on it it stated the driver wasn't installed properly and searched itself for a fix, It seemed to find something and tried installing it but then reported it wasn't installed properly.

I restored the laptop to two different previous restore points with no effect and so have since undid all restores (using the onscreen keyboard and a mouse).

I have tried pressing F2/F6/F8 on startup but with no effect....

I have seen a fix that has seemed to work for people where they disconnect the power lead and battery, press and hold the power button for 30-45 secs, connect just the battery and reboot, however my battery is internal and can't be clipped out like most laptops...

I'm running out of ideas and most driver update sites seem to be a trick to get you to install their software for free then charge you for anything else so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, I don't want to have to get an external HDD, back everythin... Read more

Try the following drivers.
Oddly enough, I could not find official keyboard drivers for your model, only touchpad drivers.
I'm assuming that your keyboard uses a windows included driver.

These are for Windows 7 64bit.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to control panel, uninstall "Launch Manager" in Programs, download from here and re-install it:
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
Try different drivers for synaptics, for example, Acer Aspire E1-572 Synaptics Touchpad Driver 17.0.6.13 for Windows 8.1 64-bit Drivers download - Synaptics Software Update
EDIT:
If you find ETD Ware in Programs, right click and uninstall it, that's your Elantech but I couldn't see it in your Device manager.

I just recently encountered a problem with my Acer Aspire E3-112 notebook keyboard that I had been able to fix and would like to share the solution with anyone who may encounter the same problem. I had used a USB flash drive to copy some files without any issues. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that the 8 key on the keyboard had stopped responding, but all other keys worked as normal. I had pressed Fn-F11 (NumLk) and the 8 key started working again. Pressing Fn-F11 again disabled the NumLk mode, and the 8 key also stopped working again. I tried rebooting the notebook, shutting down and powering back up, reinstalling keyboard driver, etc, but nothing worked. To rule out Windows OS related settings, I rebooted into BIOS, and noticed that the 8 key still didn't work when I tried to change the time, but the other number keys worked fine. The solution that finally solved the problem was to shut down the notebook, and then using a paper clip, push it into the Batery reset pinhole on the bottom of the notebook for four seconds. Upon normal powerup, the 8 key started working again. If your notebook has a removable battery, then removing and reinstalling the battery might have the same effect.

If it were me, I'd try the K/B on another computer. If it works, then you know the K/B is good and the issue must be the computer it's presently connected to. This would mean the issue is likely software(drivers). You might want to check the manufacturer's website and see if there are newer Windows 7 drivers for the device. If there are, download and install them and reboot and see if your K/B doesn't work then.It matters not how straight the gate,How charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate;I am the captain of my soul.***William Henley***

Hello. I am hoping that someone will have a solution to some weirdnesses going on with my Acer 5050. It came with Vista but I reformatted the hard drive and installed XP. Everything had been going smoothly until I decided to download Service Pack 3. While Service Pack 3 was downloading my network hiccuped or something and Service Pack 3 was aborted mid download. After that happened the computer was a complete mess, so I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed XP. I am now at the point of downloading all MS XP updates, virus protection, anti-spyware etc.

The problem I seem to be having is sometimes after a reboot the touchpad and keyboard will not work. An external wireless mouse will though. I find if I do a reboot both the touchpad and the keyboard will come back to life but often when the touchpad and keyboard will not work the computer will not reboot, I must pull out the battery to get the silly machine to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Brenda

Hi,
My neighbours computer is an Acer Aspire 6920G that is 9 months old, it has just come back from the store she brought it at and still has the same issue.
It runs Vista Home Premium, which I am not familiar with.
The machine boots fine, but does not recognise the keyboard, touchpad, and now has no sound drivers or options.
The machine was not sold with a Vista disc, just a generic recovery disc that does not allow me to use the SFC /scannow or repair console.
I am familiar with XP to intermediate, but never used Vista before.

Can anyone please help

Hey there!

I am very sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum but I really don't know what the reason for my problem is.
I own an Acer Aspire 5920 Laptop and it has Windows Vista on it.

Unfortunately I cannot provide that sysinfo, because my Laptop isn't working and I'm writing this from another one. So here is my problem:
When I turn it on, it shows me those things:
a big acer logo
"start windows normally"
"starting windows"
makes that windows sound
goes black, then a somewhat darkblue colour
then it does nothing at all anymore and I have to turn it off by pressing the power-button for a few seconds.

I have already tried to boot in 'safe mode' and that worked perfectly fine! As I got this Laptop via school, we were provided with a Reboot-CD (?) but my CD drive decides on its own when it's working, so that's not an option either.

Well, I would very much appreciate your help!

Thank you, Malin.

I hope this is the right section to post this, if not, please tell me where I could move it to! I've just bought an Acer M5640 that came with an inbuilt HD TV Tuner. Unfortunately, Acer seems to think it's pretty unnecessary to include any sort of instruction of how to set it up for the first time, and I've never used a TV Tuner before, so I'm stumped. The problem I'm having is that when I'm scanning for services (using Windows Media Center), it comes back with 'No services were found. Please make sure your TV signal is properly connected to the computer'. I'm pretty sure it's connected fine... I've plugged it into every jack it fits into and tried again, just to make sure I've got it in the right spot, but no luck. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, so what is it?

Answer:Acer TV Tuner not picking up signal correctly...

What kind of TV reception do you have? Antenna, cable, satellite, etc? For the most part Tv Tuners work just like TV's. For example, if you have a cable box, you need to plug the tuner into the output from the cable box. Set the program the tuner is using to Channel 3 or 4 (or whatever your cable provider needs). Then from there change the channel using the cable box.

With all the TV tuners that I have worked with. Scanning the channels has been useless, unless you have an actual antenna hooked to the tuner, or if it's a special card from your cable provider.

Yeah I have the T61p-A24. The microphone isn't working for me. I am trying to use skype and talk to my family. I tried a few different drivers and rolling back a few times. All of a sudden yesterday I could hear myself through my speakers. I didn't have any programs running. I just heard myself, and there was a big echo feedback sounding like the mic was on high. I saw through settings that the mic was working, but it wouldn't turn off. Now that it is turned off mysteriously, I can't get it to work like before. I didn't try it on skype when it was working. I just want it to work. I have heard through other posts in other forums that this is not just my problem that it is just sheer luck you are the lucky one to have the problem. Please I need this fixed. Answer:Microphone not working correctly / Working out of nowhere / Driver issues

My first question I would want to figure out is if this is hardware or software related. If it was mine, I would swap a harddrive from a similar working model and that would tell me immediately if your hardware was working, but if you don't have one to swap, then other alternatives would be needed. One option is to install a second (backup) windows version. I do this on all my computers, it comes in very handy when you can reboot into a different instalation at any time if you have a problem and either need to test your hardware, or you need to use the system imediately and don't have time to fix any issues it may currently be having.  I'd say it's very likely you have either a bad driver, setting, or corrupt files on your system, but diagnosing this in a forum post isn't really possible, but if you do have hardware failure, then I probably have any part you may need to fix it, so hopefully we can track this down. I'd also suggest you consider doing some maintainance on your cooling system. If your unit was built prior to August 2008, then you may be at risk of GPU failure which can often be prevented by cleaning your cooling system and monitoring temperatures. This has nothing at all to do with the microphone issue, but  it could save your system board from failure, so I thought I'd mention it.

I know there was a previous topic about something similar to this but I didn't find a solution to my problem and the topic is closed. If I'm in the wrong area please move to the right one I wasn't sure were to go.T-T

I'm running on a HP Pavilion a6230n desktop running on windows vista. I use Firefox (and Internet explorer, my parents use it) The computer is about 3yrs old. The keyboard came with the computer.
The problem I'm having is with my keyboard not typing out what I'm spelling. For example if I wanted to go to deviantart.com it'll come up something random like 6[h4;clw\o==v,. I have to erase and retype for it to work right (It's happening in both firefox and internet explorer). And it's not just urls, it happens when I try to log into an instant messenger(spells my username wrong) and has happaned when I'm typing a reply back to someone to typing out a new im to send. I don't have an issue typing in forums, or in emails, etc. It's just the url,and im issues I'm getting.

I've already tried cleaning my keyboard(which it looks a lot better but I'm still having the issue). I'm not sure what else to do other than consider seeing if a new keyboard has this issue or not.

Can anyone help me out? I'm at a loss on what to do on this irritating issue.

The top row of letters will not print with the exception of these five letters and characters ty[]\ Below are the only keys that type correctly. As you can see it is the top row of letters that are malfunctioning.  1234567890-=ty[]\asdfghjkl;'zxcvbnm,./ windows 10hp pavilion model 15-n225nr Please stop the madness ... thanks!

Answer:Keyboard not typing correctly

Hi You may try a simple test open command prompt and type the letter and see if every thing works fine. If mis-match it will be a Hardware issue if works fine go to device manager and uninstall the Keyboard driver and restart the unit.

Have you tried adjusting your power management settings in Windows? Are you sure you are using the original adapter that came with your computer? If it is, you may want to try another charger to see if that is the problem.

I'm fixing my mother's computer; she is a photographer and this problemis a doozie for me as I've never seen it before. My first thought is a graphics driver problem, my second thought is a virus.
I am able to view the image thumbnail for 2 seconds but then it turns into an image looking something like this: http://i.imgur.com/KFlPCvN.jpg

Has anyone experienced this before?
I am truly confused!

Water damage, solely, to built in keyboard a year ago. Some keys do not register while others register random keys. Since then I have been using the advent external keyboard without any problems; until today. The external keyboard almost mimics the built in one now. I've tried troubleshooting and re installed the device drivers multiple times however nothing has changed.

Some help and or advice would be greatly appreciated,
thanks in advance!

Hello,  I 'own an Ideapad Z710 for 3 years.I really take care of it, but unfortunately I accidentally damaged a keyboard key ( "5", "(", and "[") on my french AZERTY keyboard. It's not entirely broken as you can see (I'am writing from it) but the key is semi lifted up, as you can see on the picture above. So as well as touch is modified, I must press stronger on the key to use it, which is especially annoying when writing... and coding (C/C++) I tried to remove the key to replace it correctly, but it seems well tied, and I would want to avoid to damage it more :/ Is there a way to replace it correctly / buy a replacement key / replacement keyboard ?I did not find any guide to replace keys on these kinds of keyboards. Thanks in advanceThe damaged key

Hi folks -I recently bought a T430 intending to give it to my girlfriend who lives in Brazil.  I found, bought, and installed a Portuguese keyboard for the T430, and haven't had any luck getting the system to recognize the new mapping.  I have selected the Portuguese (Brazilian ABNT) keyboard in Windows (Region and Language -> Keyboards and Languages -> Change Keyboard -> Text Services and Input Languages - Photo Here), but the mapping is still incorrect for most of the Shift+Number keys ("[email protected]#$%&, for example) as well as some of the particular Portuguese characters as well as some of the universal symbols.  I'm tying this now with help from the On-Screen Keyboard.(Sidenote:  I loaded Windows 7 Ultimate on this PC simply to unlock the ability to add a Language Pack, but that's for the Display Language, not the Input Language, and shouldn't be a factor here). Looking at the Portuguese keyboard mapping in WIndows, even that keyboard layout doesn't match how my T430 keyboard is laid out physically, so I think this issue needs to come back to the manufacturer for an answer at some point.  The physical keyboard layout is particular to this model, so I'm not sure how the Windows Portuguese mapping would respond to that anyway. Here's the Windows Portuguese layout preview (note that it doesn't even show any of the special characters on the number keys, but beyond that, what it does show is different than the physical layout of my T430 k... Answer:How to correctly map a foreign keyboard to a T430?

I just realized on thinking about it more, that this goes beyond the OS - this must be a BIOS setting, no? There must be an option, or the ability for the computer to recognize this keyboard, else it wouldn't be available to swap in; but is that something that's available to the user in BIOS?
