Alternative wireless card for Broadcom 4313AGN

Question: Alternative wireless card for Broadcom 4313AGN

I am looking for a better alternative to my Broadcom 4313AGN that is currently in this laptop. I want to utilize 5GHz instead of the 2.4GHz. I've searched and had little luck so far, I can't even see to find if my BIOS is locked down with whitelist. Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Xaxxas, Thank for coming to the HP Forums! I understand that you are looking for an alternative wireless card for your HP Pavilion g7-1075dx Notebook. I have look up the manual for your notebook. HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide Page 51 of the manual has the information for the compatible wireless cards with your notebook, that would be a great place to start. You can use the part numbers with the HP Part Surfer if you find one that suits your needs. HP Part Surfer I will keep a look out for your reply.

I have read multiple articles about HP laptops with wireless adapters not being able to detect 5GHz wirless networks and most state that it's because they're a "1x1" or single-antenna adapter. They say that if the adapter has the "802.11 a/b/g/n" distinction, then it should be able to see the 5GHz network?  The specs on my device show that the adapter is as follows, so I'm not sure if there may be an updated driver:Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter I've searched the HP Support site and cannot find any driver/firmware updates for this notebook...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:HP G72 with Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapte...

Hi That is very interesting. I did not know that the 4313 ever had a wireless A designation. The labeling in the device manager must be incorrect, because the specs for the card directly from the manufacturer indicate it is a single band 2.4 GHz card only. https://www.broadcom.com/products/wireless-connectivity/wireless-lan/bcm4313 If it were dual band, the card would see the 5.0 GHz band, and connect if you have the band set to mixed mode (A/N). My old Intel A/B/G cards can all 'see' the 5.0 GHz band, but can't connect to it because I have that frequency set to N only.

First, the questions: every time my girlfriend boots her Gateway laptop, she successfully connects to the wireless network for the dorm. However, she must release/renew to get any connectivity. The card is a Broadcom 8011.b/g (also has bluetooth... I have been out of the tech loop for a while now and know little enough about laptops to have no clue what the model number or even that company's track record is as far as compatibility and reliability). I have played around with the standard settings to try and fix this with no avail. Also, the laptop take a million years to boot and shut down, and while I am no expert, I have toyed with the common things that might cause this... I know that a tech guy got to the laptop before I did and replaced the OS and did a bunch of tweaks and didn't document it or anything so I have no idea what state her laptop is actually in.

And a bit of mudslinging... I would encourage you all to avoid purchasing your laptops (or desktops for that matter) from Gateway or Best Buy. Gateway does not support your computer in the event that you change operating systems or alter the computer in any way. Also be aware that Gateway does not cover a laptop with their name on it purchased from Best Buy. You actually must call a seperate number that leads to an eMachines representative, waiting a good 30 minutes each time you must push a new automated answering service number. Really poor business.

Answer:Broadcom wireless card

The more recent broadcom mini PCI cards in laptops, several Gateways, Dells, Compaq/HP, really are not that reliable.

Just one example I've run into lately, my bro'in'law's D820 will connect to my Linksys WRT54GS but not his dad's US Robotics AP. It will only connect to about half of the AP's in various hotels.
Drivers have been changed, etc, but I haven't done that much with it myself. He is a pretty good tech in his own right.

Combine that with several of my customers with the same issue and a Broadcom mini PCI ABG card... its faster and cheaper for my customers just to buy an Intel 2915ABG and pop it in there.

I have a new Acer laptop with a Broadcom network adapter and can connect to a 802.11b wireless router but I couldn't connect to the router at the village library which I think has 802.11g. How do I know for sure how to set my Broadcom network adapter so it can connect to an 802.11g signal. What settings should I look for. I checked my computer's device manager but couldn't get a model number for the Broadcom adapter. I have windows vista home premium 32bit on my Acer Extensa 5420-5038.

Answer:What settings for my Broadcom wireless card

Getting the right and exact model number for the Broadcom is really key.

Try Everest Home Edition to get the specs.
Download from here and run it
- Click Reports->Report Wizard
- Get a Summary report in plain text
- You can attach the report or just copy / paste the info on your network adapter right into your post as that alone won't be alot of text

btw... most adapters are set for b&g (tho of course won't know for sure till the model number) tho have you check with the library if there are any other connection criteria?

I have an HP/Compaq Presario Laptop with a Broadcom Wireless 54g internal LAN Card. In its options it has this option for XPress (TM) Technology, what exactly does this do?

Maybe it's me, but I have noticed since I turned it on (thought it could improve performance) whenever I'm using my house phone, the wireless connection just drops. It never used to do this before. It's also affecting my desktop, but like i said, maybe its just me.

Hello.

A few months ago I bought an Acer Aspire One 722 netbook. On the first run I installed Windows 7 (since it had Linpus Linux with no GUI pre-installed) and I installed all the drivers. After some time I decided to use Xubuntu 12.10 and I was happy with it. It automatically installed the proprietary driver for the wi-fi card and all was good.

The trouble came when Ubuntu 13.04 got released and I decided to look for another distro since the one I was using was out of date and not as fast as I had wished anyway. I've installed Manjaro Linux and everything worked nicely until one time I went downstairs for a moment and came back to see my screen blanked out (default power settings), which was normal, and... my wi-fi led turned off. The internet still worked but now the led wouldn't light up no matter what. I figured that it must have burned out or something so I ignored the problem.

I realized the problem was more serious when I decided to try Lubuntu. When the installer asked me to connect to a network, at first it connected properly and then, when I wanted to continue the installation, it probably downloaded and installed the proprietary driver, because the led switched on but the installer tried to connect to my network over and over again unsuccessfully.

To get a better idea of what's going on I installed Xubuntu 12.10 again (because the wi-fi card worked fine on it before) and checked the wi-fi driver selection in software sources>additional drive... Read more

Hello. Well, a couple weeks ago my wireless started acting buggy. It wouldn't work, but if I restarted my laptop it would usually start again. Now it's not working at all. I've tried reinstalling the drivers with the disc that came with my computer and downloading the drivers from the dell website. The device does show up in my device manager. I've tried deleting it, so it reinstalls, didn't work. It is enabled in BIOS. I have tried the little wireless switch and the hotkey.

I have the same computer and my wifi card is the dell 1390. the broadcom is the wired device. could you go into device manager (type device manager in search) and see if there is an "unknown" device? that might be your wifi.

Yooooo! I have a Lenovo Y510p with modified BIOS so I could replace the crappy Intel wireless card that came with it (Intel Centrino N2230) for an Azurewave - Broadcom 4352. The experience has been good so far, the only problem I'm having is the low wireless signal with the card. I have other laptops that have higher range and strengths on the same place with older cards.

I've tried verifying (and even swapping) the cables and noted no difference. I asked on another forum and they told me that it could be that the card is not receiving enough power, but I have yet to find a settings in the BIOS or in Windows that dwindles its performance. I have recently updated the driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't improve a bit.

Any suggestions to improve the wireless signal? Thanks.

Hi All,

I'm working on a clients notebook [HP presario R3205ap with XP pro SP3] that has an issue with the broadcom wireless network card... the notebook has the network card showing a yellow exclamation mark in device manager and the error message "the driver is missing or corrupt, please reinstall driver" When uninstalling driver, using the "find new hardware" option in control panel, windows gets to the "search for driver" section in the installation wizard and then freezes up the whole system, with a reboot holding down the power button to restart the only solution. I've tried downloading the latest driver from HP, uninstalling the driver in device manager and attempting to install the new driver, but again the system freezes when the device manager refreshes itself when searching for the driver.
Can anyone help??

Here are the stats:
HP Presario R3205AP Notebookl
3.2GHz Pentium 4
2GB Ram
XP Pro SP3
Broadcom 54g 802.11g WLAN card

Answer:Broadcom wireless network card freezing system

You might try disabling the device, deleting the driver files yourself, and rebooting.

Then download the new drivers, install them, reboot and then re-enable the device so plug and play will detect them.

hi,

many things are free in Linux but some hardware vendors don't allow free integration of their drivers in Linux, in our case Broadcom and its network adapter drivers.

in fact it is not so complicated we have to remove the proprietary driver and replace it by another.

this small tutorial assumes you use a Ubuntu-based distro.
issue:

you went to Driver Manager and the needed driver (generally nominated as "non-free") is not activated and you can't activate it.

Requirements

You need have internet via a wired connection (it means you connect to your modem via a cable)

(i will try to find a way to do this procedure without any connection)

Preparation:

open Terminal and type:
Code:
sudo lshw -class network
it will shows you the model of your network card.

Step 1

open Terminal and type:

1-

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source
2- Reboot

Your Wifi should be now detected

note: as you see , since we type "apt-update" we need an active internet connection , so the wired connection requirement.

step 2

since we removed the faulty driver we will update the system

1- Open Terminal and type
Code:
apt-get updates
then
Code:
apt-get dist-upgrade
2- reboot

it may take some time.

Final note:

depending your system/distro , the Driver Manager may states that the wifi driver is not enabled, even though it is, and is working..

I am getting an 1802 error message on boot when I install the Broadcom Mini-PCI wireless card. I know it has something to do with some code IBM put into the BIOS or CMOS to check the cards for manufacturer or something like that. Is there anyway around this message or do I have to try and find an IBM mini-PCI wireless card for this machine?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:1802 Error Message on installation of Broadcom Mini-PCI Wireless Card

You have two choices:a) Buy a genuine cardb) Apply the so-called "no-1802" BIOS hack for the machine to accept your Broadcom card.If you choose the second solution, just Google for "no-1802" and you'll find all you need to get this done. However, be advised that you're messing with BIOS and that motherboard failures have been reported as a result of this procedure, although in small number of cases.BTW, what ThinkPad are we discussing here? On some machines the "no-1802" procedure doesn't work...Good luck.Message Edited by ajkula66 on 06-23-2008 08:55 PM

I've used two different HP laptops in my living room with wireless signal strength varying from 3-4 bars. Just today I got another HP laptop with a Ralink card installed and this one is staying mostly at 2 bars, only occasionally up to 3. Nothing else has changed.

The reasonably strong wireless connections on my other two laptops was facilitated by Intel 5100 and 5300 wireless cards. Are the Ralink wireless cards considered a step or two behind the leading brands? Would it be a good idea to get an Intel card instead, or is it more likely that the laptop has a deficient antenna arrangement? I've searched on-line for my laptop model (dv6-6145dx) and found a couple of similar complaints, but no worthwhile resolutions.

Are all PCI-e wireless cards created equal, meaning you should be able to install them in any laptop that accommodates the type? Or do some motherboard architectures lend themselves to work better with only certain brands/models?

Answer:Alternative to Ralink RT5390 half pci-e wireless card

I'd check from Device manager, and open the panel about that card, then look for settings about signal strength or power savings. Of course more signal strength = less power saved, but quite a few cards do have 2-3 power settings you can tweak, and you can see the difference afterwards.

It could have a crappy antenna, and in that case there is little you can do, short of modding the case to add a decent one.

Afaik, minipci-e is just an interface (the ones in laptops are "mini", an actual pci-e slot is bigger than that and won't fit in a laptop). You can run anything from it, modems, network cards/bluetooth, video co-processors, external GPUs (if you are a nerd with some experience), or whatever.

So yeah, you can swap the card, connect the antenna wires and install the drivers, and everything should be fine.

I am a new user and not a particularly technically competent one. I hope this is the right forum for this question.

I am using a Dell Latitude D430 with Vista Business. For Broadband connections it has a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx controller. I am on the road in a hotel which has an ethernet broadband connection in my room. I am connecting to the internet through this ethernet connection. However, every time that I do something, e.g. go to a new URL, a box pops up labelled "Connect Broadband Connection" which asks for a user name and password and tries to dial a connection. I have to close it because it appears to stall the ethernet connection while it waits to dial. I don't understand why it doesn't recognize the ethernet connection. I can't find a way to disable it without disabling the card and then my ethernet connection doesn't work. Is there something I can do?? Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

in internet explorer goto tools options, then connections tab i believe, and you should see an option, never dial a connection. Try that.

Hello,

I am a student at a University which requires the use of a VPN client to access the internet. When I turn on my internal wireless adapter (Broadcom) it shows excellent connectivity. I also have no problem connecting to the VPN. But when I try to connect to the internet it fails.

I have an external wireless adapter that I use at home and I plugged this one into my laptop and it worked fine. I could always use this but I figure the internal should work so I 'm looking for help.

I have taken the computer to the campus IT people but they were unable to help saying it would connect when it wanted to.

Thanks.

Answer:WIRELESS DRIVER BROADCOM

Hello and welcome!Did you already tried out any of the Broadcom drivers which can be found on the net, like this or one from here?Add-on: The key here is, to find out what Broadcom chipset your WLAN card uses, since it's easier to find a correct Broadcom driver, if you know the exact chipset spec name. For your pciid= 14e4:4320  it might be possibly --> BCM4306 <-- but you will have to prove that twice before searching for a suitable Broadcom driver.Message Edited by vkyr on 03-24-2008 01:27 PM

Cheers

Answer:Broadcom 802.11g wireless adapter

What model & manufacturer of laptop, and are you using WEP or WPA on the Router? The simple thing to look for is if the Wifi adapter light is lit up on the laptop. If it is a Compaq/Hp notebook, you would have a blue light that has an icon next to it that looks like a lollipop silkscreen icon. Same color for Gateway.

I would make sure that the Wifi Adapter is Enabled, or otherwise it would never work.

I have a broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated Controller. I just got the Westell 7500. It won't connect for any connection to the broadcom card. Does anyone know if this broadcom is a network adapter? My older westell modem still connects just fine. Have a Dell 521EIs this a driver issue or do I need a network adapter? If a driver problem does anyone know the driver I need? If I need a network adapter, it is for a Dell 5100C and does this disable and replace the Broadcom card? Or in addition to it?

Answer:Can I use Broadcom 440x10/100 IC for wireless

The broadcom is a non-wireless network adapter - it will only connect using a cable. If your old modem worked with the card then your new one will, you just need to set it up in the first place - follow the instructions in the manual, if you don't have them then they should be available on the Westell website."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Hello everyone. I have one hp tx1320us and a sony vaio laptops. They both have the wirelss draft n card, but the hp has one from Broadcom. My problem is that the hp after being on for about two or three hours, the internet connection starts becoming slow (very slow). I go to speakeasy and run some connection tests, and the results vary from 26k to 54k; my printer icon (lan printer) starts to disconnect and connect back also. The problem is I have a cable modem running at 7mpbs. I go to speakeasy again, but on the sony, and my full connection speed is there along with my desktop pc via ethernet.

After googling, I have discovered that the broadcom draft n cards are no good. Now, is there a possibility of swapping out the card with something else out there? Or is there something that can be done to fix it?

Also, after a reboot, the connection is back to normal and at full speed; the printer icon is also consistent. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Help!!!! In device manager, Broadcom 802.11 is enable but in adapter settings, it is disable. If enable, it says enabling then enabled but still disabled. My wireless switch at the side is turned on also in function key + f5. I try to troubleshoot using windows and it says there might be a problem with the driver of the wireless connection adapter. The driver I installed is working the first time I installed it. I even try reinstalling it.

This last three days my brother and sister use this computer. They said that we can't connect to the internet. We are using Globe broadband. When I got here, I still can see wireless connection but can't connect with mobile broadband connection. I reinstall the driver for mobile broadband then the wireless connection dissappear. I try uninstalling the driver for mobile broadband and reinstalling the driver for wireless connection but nothing happened.

Answer:Wireless Connection Broadcom 802.11

Hi,

Would I be right in thinking from your reference to the wireless switch and to Fn+F5 that you are using a laptop and the Broadcom wi-fi unit is built into it ? If this is the case, these can fail in ways to have you pulling your hair out and not show up in Device Manager. A simple solution would be to beg, borrow or steal a USB type wireless dongle - and possibly its driver software, depending on your operating system - plug it in and see if you get a wireless connection with that. If you do, then probably the on-board wi-fi unit has failed and by far the cheapest solution is to go and buy a USB type dongle.

By the way, looking at your device driver screenshot, are you aware that there is a possible problem with your DVD drive, it has a '!' symbol over it ?

Regards,

Hello All, I just picked up a refurbished G500 and overall I'm pretty happy with it...with one major exception. The #1 criteria when I was laptop shopping was that it provided 802.11n support (my old laptop was just 'g'). Anyway, long story short, I am not experiencing any connectivity issues however I'm lucky if I connect at anything above 55 Mb/s. I switched over to my 802.11g router and my connection speed dropped down to 5 mb/s... so there is obviously an issue. All suggestions are welcome, but let me rule out the typical initial responses: * I have a Dell laptop that connects to my 802.11n router at 150Mbs so I know the router is fine* I have tried the generic Windows Broadcom Driver* I have tried the Lenovo Broadcom Driver for Win 7* I have tried the Lenovo Broadcom Driver for Win 8* I have tried the Lenovo Broadcom Driver for Win 8.1 Also note that I'm in I.T. but wireless isn't my strong point. When I first got the G500 before I did anything to it (so OEM image) the wireless connected low (Think the highest I saw it was 72 Mbs at one point). I have since wiped that laptop and installed my own copy of Win 8 Pro (and then Win 8.1 Pro Update) and still getting the same speed. So I feel like I have pretty much ruled out any OS issues (since I've been on 3 at this point). Drivers are always a possibility but I've tried everyone out there. And of course Hardware would be my last thought although it works.. just not that fast. I'm also... Read more

Answer:Broadcom Wireless 802.11n low Mbs speed

Just to followup, it sounds like it's the Broadcom Card. Not capable of speeds over 72 Mbs. I'd be ok with that and just replacing the card but dealing with the fact that Lenovo can't seem to tell me the approved "whitelist" cards means I can't. Thinking about returning it... this is why I never buy HP equipment and now I may have to add Lenovo to my personal Black List.

Hi.

Looking at buying one of the NB305 netbooks but wanted to check if there's anyway these can play H.264 encoded mkv files. I know the pinetrail cpu would probably struggle, but I've read that the broadcom crystal hd card can get around this issue. Would the the NB305 cope with this card as it requires a spare PCIe slot? Guessing there's no option of buying the card with the netbook like you can do with the dell mini 10 and hp mini 311?

Cheers.

Answer:NB 305 & broadcom crystal hd card

Hi mate

I don?t see any reasons why you should not be able to watch and play H.264 encoded mkv files.
The files might be a little bit bigger due to the high definition resolution but and simply VLC player (small tool for free) should be able to play such file?

> Would the the NB305 cope with this card as it requires a spare PCIe slot?
?.No?. you cannot insert, upgrade this notebook with any additional PCI cards?
This is not possible.

It looks like there will be an extra mini PCI-e slot open for either a WWAN card or HD broadcom accelerator chip on the new s10-3 series.  I have experimented with this chip and it does help the underpowered netbooks play HD video.

whether I am at home or coffee shops my wireless connection speed is very slow.  typically getting 1-2 MBPS download speed where the connection is otherwise transmitting at 20-25mbps. Example today - home router cisco linksys N router when hardwired to my cisco wireless router I get 27-28mbps speed but when I switch to wireless only it slows down to about 1.5mbps.  at the same time I can get 10-11mbps speed on my andriod phone using the same internet speed test.net application. Today at Starbucks - andriod phone ( samsung galaxy S ii ) downlod speed ( wireless ) is @ 11-12mbps, however when I run same speed test on my lenovo G780 ( windows 8 64bit ) i can only get 1.46mbps speed. So in essence there is something amiss with my wireless adapter card ( broadcom 802.11 )  but i can't figure out if it is card/hardware issue, a config issue or driver issue.  I searched the lenovo site for an updated driver but the download section doesn't even list the broadcom adapter driver at all, just intel, liteon and something else. I called Lenovo support and of course they said since my adpater card was in fact connecting then it was fine and they wanted to charge me to fix the problem... Please help !!

Answer:G780 with Broadcom Wireless - VERY slow

WOw, no responses here, must not be a well traveled site/forum. Well, I solved my problem finally, I got a new cisco N750 dual band router and that worked well for wireless connection finally, must have been some incompatibility issues with that older router and the new broadcom wireless card.  Was still having a few problems with overall connection to the internet so i swapped out my old mediacom modem for a new motorola 6121 modem and reconfiged the setup again and now everything is back to normal, well above normal really cause now I am getting 23-28mbps download speed when I am privisioned for 15mbps, but that is during the day mon-fri.  Ill see how it does during high traffic periods.... so far so good !!

Hi, I am running a Compaq Presario V3000, windows XP home. It normally has wireless connection through broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN. However, last night an error message saying that there was a problem with the device appeared. I disabled and re-enabled the device through "network connections". Immediately afterwards the connection disappeared from the network connections page. It has also disappeared from the 'Device Manager' except for the "Packet scheduler miniport" which is a 'hidden device'. The HP wireless assisstant has also gone missing. It remains as a control panel icon but it wont open. By this I mean, nothing happens at all when its clicked. I have tried the "add new hardware wizard" and am now trying to download updated drivers. But so far to no effect.

I remember a similiar problem when my computer seems to have forgotten it had a CD-ROM, where all evidence of it had disappeared. that issue resolved itself as if by magic.

Any Ideas much appreciated,
Michael

After my kid went to some less-than-savory websites, my PC at home was infested with a slew of viruses.

I figured it was time to install 7057 since I had such good luck with 7000 on my netbook.

I installed and everything appeared to be fine, but then, using the Microsoft provided Broadcom 802.11g wireless driver (just as it is labeled in Vista Ultimate, which works PERFECTLY), things started to act flakey with my internet connection.

It's a Belkin branded Broadcom card, but I have never had issues with it. After switching back to Vista it's working perfectly again.

I ran Windows updates, then started to surf the web a little to find some drivers and in the middle of doing nothing out of the ordinary, internet connectivity simply dropped.

It showed me still connected, but only for local access - no internet.

I rebooted - couldn't even connect to the wireless now.

I did a cold boot - connects but local only.

No other PC in the house was having any issues.

I've tried it using DHCP and a static IP - both of which worked on all other machines as well. No joy.

The router I am using is the first generation Belkin Pre-N, which for the past year has needed the occasional reboot, but didn't really have any serious issues. It is several years old.

As I said - no other machines had any problems. They are all running Vista Ultimate (a mix of x32 and x64), along with my netbook running x32 build 7000.

So, can I suspect that there is an issue with the Broadcom driver? Or may... Read more

Hello,I have an Aspire E1-571G with Windows 8.1x64 (clean install, no upgrade and so on) and I've been having issues with my broadcom wireless drivers ever since I installed it. The troubleshooter showed up that there is a problem with the default gateway but here's what really happens: I can stay connected to a wireless network but after random periods of time I just lose internet access (note that it doesn't show up in the connections page, everything looks perfectly fine there) and I have to reconnect to the wifi to regain it. I have tried on multiple wifi network and it does the same thing. It works fine if I use an ethernet cable but that just makes it more frustrating.I have tried all the possible solutions I could find online like checking the power management settings, reinstalling the wifi card in safe mode, checking the priority of the wirelss connection, virtually anything. There is no hardware issue with it, it worked perfectly fine on Windows 7. I haven't been able to find wireless drivers for 8.1 and even though I have the latest drivers, it still doesn't work right. There are moments when I can keep my connection for more than 2-3 hours but there are times when it crashes every 5 minutes or so.Does anybody have any idea how to fix this instead of waiting for the drivers to be updated ? I've seen that I'm not the only one with this issue and it's a bit common for e1-571g users. For example lenovo users had the same problem and the only fix was to install the def... Read more

boboudrescu  Hello to you!  I just wanted to tell you that your symptoms and troubles are exactly the same as mine.  While I have found some extended ethernet connection by using FIXED DNS Server Addresses (Google Public Adresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), I still have the disconnection/dropped signal at least 6 to 8 times in the day.  So I know it's not a complete remedy by you may want to give that a try and see if it maintains a connection for a bit longer. I have posted information about Broadcom's announcement to get a new driver released and can only hope that it means a complete remedy to the problem with 8.1 drivers.  SOON!! So we shall see!

Hey, I am a long time reader, first time poster - but, I found some drivers that will allow AMD 64 equipped laptops with the Broadcom 54g chipset (ie HP/Compaq/Emachines) to access the internet and network wirelessly in Winddows XP 64 bit edition!!!

Note: these are for 64 bit systems running WindowsServer or XP 64 bit Editions only.

The site is:

It is the very first link that says generic drivers from Company "all". These are not official drivers, but they work!

Enjoy!

Hi there,
Not sure if I've got the right forum so sorry if I've put it in the wrong place, but here goes:

I'm running a brand new Lenovo B570 with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and a Broadcom 802.11n wireless network adaptor.

Earlier today I was managing to connect to the internet wirelessly, though the connection kept dropping out. Then I could connect to the wireless router, but not through the internet, and now I can't connect wirelessly at all. With an ethernet cable internet access is fine, and another computer in the house connects fine to the wireless too, so it follows that the problem's with this machine.

The computer recognises that the networks are there, but it can't connect.

Any help would be appreciated, I've been at this all day.

Check the place the wireless driver gets unzipped to, then try to manually update the driver by right clicking on network controller & clicking on update driver & specify the directory. And then check if the driver would get installed or not.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Did this device come with a cd with it if it did then just go to control panel then to system and under the hard ware tab click device manager and the name of the device with the question mark next to it well just right click and and click update drivers then with the cd in the cd rom let the windows search for it automatically and it should fix the problem if it didnt come with a disc then go to the website and downlod the drivers if that doesnt work then its probably a bad device thats when you send it back to the manufacturer

Has the Wireless Network Adapter got its correct IP address from the router, most commonly a 192.168.x.x address? You can check this by opening a Command Prompt window ("Start > Run", type CMD and click OK) and, at the prompt, typing:IPCONFIG /ALLThis will show details of all network adapters in the PC.If it hasn't got the correct address, it probably hasn't "Connected" properly to the wireless network.

Hi,

I have recently refreshed my presario b1900 notebook using the recovery partition hoping to fix a bizzare issue where the CD DVD/RW drive is conflicting with the Broadcom Wirless network card.

Whenever I am connected to a wlan, the CD drive is removed from "My Computer" and from the Devices screen in Control Panel. If I disable the wlan card, go to devices and tell it to scan for hardware changes, the Cd drive is immediatly found and useable again.

I figured vista had got itself in a twist so I did a fresh install from my recovery partition only for the issue to immediatly happen again.

I have done the usual google searches, but this issue seems pretty unique and have not found anything solid.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Everytime I try, my PC says my wireless adapter is experiencing driver or hardware related issues, and the wireless function shuts down entirely.

Restarting, enabling and disabling and so forth doesn't solve the problem, only a full uninstall of the device and a clean install of most recent drivers fixes the issue, until next time I try connecting to a public wifi.

My Asus runs window 10 64bit.

Any ideas?

Answer:Broadcom 802. 11abgn wireless sdio adapter

Use a utility such as Aida64 to see exactly which model is your WiFi adapter. Then download latest driver directly from Broadcom and see if they do work. Since the problem arises only in public networks, it could also be some security restriction. I don't have a WiFi card right now, so I cannot help you with any settings. Anybody else?

I'd send it back to Lenovo again. It's only 2 months old. The S10 is currently a $280 Cdn unit. If it takes too long to repair, Lenovo should save themselves time and money by replacing it with a completely new S10.

Hi, I need some help please, despite downloading the driver pack and indeed the individual Windows 7 64bit drivers for the Broadcom wireless I am still unable to get the device installed and operational. The device ID's as Broadcom BCM943228Z 802.11abgn WiFi adapter and while it appears to be installed the deivce manager entry shows a yellow exclamation mark and on WiFi adapters are present on the Network Connections screen. If I try to update the drivers I am either told its up to date or get an error update.cpp1205. I have 9 of these to build on Windows 7 Professional and this is the only item left to deal with.

Hi all

Trying to get my wife's older laptop to connect to our wireless network. The laptop is a HP pavillion zv5000 running windows XP sp3. The network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN. The router is a cisco linksys WRT54G2 V1.5. The security on the network is WPA2 using TKIP+AES encryption.

I can't get it to connect to the wireless network. If I bump the security down to WEP it will connect just fine. I want to leave the security at WPA2 however. How do I fix this?

Thanks

Mike

Answer:Broadcom 802.11b/g and WPA2? Can't access my wireless connection

I tried using WPA (not WPA2) with TKIP and matched the settings with the laptop....no luck there either...

The Security settings for the network show WPA2 with 2 encryption options...AES only or TKIP+AES...for WPA it only has the option of TKIP....maybe it can run both at the same time or maybe that means it will recieve both with WPA2?

I'm on a HP pavilion dv6000 vista home pre. 64bit. Anywho, my wireless light indicator stays on orange even when its on the on/off position. I don't know what the issue is but its a pain! I managed to chat with one of them HP online techs. and they helped me solve my problem for a day. What they told me to do was to update my bios, then install the broadcom lan adaptor, in that order... but since whoever that tech was... he/she was a really slow typer so i didn't know and i installed the broadcom wireless first, and i guess my wireless picked it up right away. But the next day came by and it was yet again dead. Now im pretty much stuck with an ethernet wire and i can't get any work done at school because most of my classes need online info. (On a side note: Broadcom wireless is usually shown under Network Adaptors in my Device Manager, but now its gone and i just can't do anything to make it detect Broadcom. Also the only item that is under network adaptors is Nvidia Nforce Controller(i have no idea what that is, but its there).

It's been almost 4 weeks now since this happened, Help is greatly greatly appreciated!

Last resort** send my laptop to HP and get robbed.

Hi Mistergq,

The NVidia Nforce Controller is your ethernet hard-wired port

Do you know the exact make/model and version of your wireless card? The issues your having are all caused by the driver its using so if you have that info around I can try find another one for you to use

I received my new business Y50-70, and I have found that the range of the wireless card is awful.  If I am standing within 5 feet of the router I get full speed, but as I walk 10 to 15 feet away (in direct line of sight) I can watch the bars decrease. If I go around the corner into another room, I basically lose all connectivity. This is awful performance for a nice laptop. Are there any settings or way to boost the receiving strenth of the wireless card?  I travel often, and need to be able to connect to hotel wireless, and this will not suffice.  If not, I may have to return this. ThanksMatt

Hello, I am having many problems with the Broadcom Wireless adapter that came with my acer. Around every hour it disconnects from my wireless router, and I know the router is working fine. I have to disable and reenable the wireless adapter in my lappy to get it to reconnect to the router, and after another hour it does it once again. Along with that, every so often, it doesnt send or recieve packets very fast, its like its working in extra-slow mode.... Ive downloaded the latest drivers for the adapter from the Acer webpage, and they dont seem to help.... Is there any fix for this problem? Another thing, is this a widespread problem with Broadcom Adapter?

Thank you,

I am a computer technician for a small consulting firm in Boston Mass called Tech Networks of Boston (TNB). I am having an issue with my 3000 N100 0768-E7U running the Pre-loaded Windows Vista Business edition. Original description: T7200(2GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA GeForce FX Go7300, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 10/100 Ethernet, touch pad, Camera, Fingerprint reader, IEEE 1394, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business Since I purchased my laptop from TNB back in March of 07, i have had issue with playing audio while using the wireless. Sound get clearly degraded when wireless activity occurs. I though it would have something to do with drivers so i updated the wireless and sound drivers to the latest ones offered by the manufacturer (which are more recent then the ones provided by Lenovo). no luck. I later decided to wipe and install Windows XP Pro on my laptop. Surprise, sound and wireless work great. Now i have reloaded the newest version of Vista Business with SP1. still having the same issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes???

Answer:Broadcom Wireless and Sound under Windows Vista

Fausto,

I believe we need to look into your audio drivers ... Realtek.  What version number driver are you running under Vista?

Also, what mode are you running the network card in?   Are you running in 'G' mode?

Can you explain a bit more about the degraded sound?  Is it stuttering / skipping, or...?

Thanks.

Hi there - my wireless adapter seems like its dead.

My laptop isn't detecting it and I cannot connect to wireless networks. The light to indicate if the wireless is on or not, is showing orange (off) instead of blue (on), when in fact the switch is in the 'on' position.

I've tried installing the broadcom driver again, but it didn't help. I'm just about to call up HP to have it serviced, unless anyone has any suggestions?

What really gets to me, is that my laptop is just about 1 and a 1/2 years old and this is the second time this exact same problem has occurred. Last time this happened, it was almost at the end of the warranty and I was able to have it repaired under the warranty. Now, I'm guessing I'll have to pay for the repair - the warranty is finished.
This second problem has occurred during a SHORTER time span - in about 4-5 months! Last time, HP's affiliates who repaired it, said the problem was the motherboard, so the motherboard was replaced (or was it just repaired?)

So I'm out of ideas. I don't even use the wireless much. Most of the time I'm connected to the internet via ethernet. What actually causes this problem?
Does anyone know how much having this repaired or having the wireless adapter or motherboard replaced would cost?

My laptop is a Compaq V3118au in case anyone's interested lol.

Sorry for my essay

Thanks for your help

Answer:Problem with broadcom wireless network adapter

i know this problem. first, try to update your BIOS. if this will helps so, the problem disappeared.
second problem connected with southbridge chip(mini-PCI-express is bus which connected directly to southbridge)
third. i recommend to sell this laptop. this platform has VERY BAD QUALITY of motherboard and has development errors(lack of northbridge and videochip heatsink). HP tried to fix this problem with new BIOS in which they changed passive thermal cooling temperature, but this is not right way.
and fourth try to replace the Wi-Fi adapter.

I would like to express my dissatisfaction at how poor the build in WLAN card is on my Z580. I am sitting here typing this using my laptop on a G rated old USB plug in WIFI adaptor receiving full signal with my built in WIFI currently disabled as its the only way I can get a signal, yet sitting next to this laptop is my 3 year old low spec netbook which has full signal to the same router! For a fairly high spec laptop to have such a poorly performing Wireless card is beyond belief. If you search this very support forum there are numerous reports of how poor the broadcom WLAN adaptor is. This brings me to a few questions: Why is the bios whitelisted to only allow Lenovo FRU WIFI cards to work? I am more that capable of installing a WIFI card myself but you make this impossible by not even allowing customers to purchase replacement WIFI cardsWas there a faulty batch of wireless cards installed on these laptops? Will someone send me a replacement FRU WIFI card?I have done all the checks, uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, checked the router itself etc. so please don't ask me to do the basics, I work for one of the largest ISP's in Britain and have access to the latest N rated 300 Mbps routers for testing purposes. I know someone is going to come on to this and advise me I need to call technical support, but why should I waste time out of my day on a premium rate number to call them for them to take me through the checks I have already done,... Hello, I bought ThinkPad E450 with broadcom 802.11ac wireless adapter about two weeks ago.I experienced blue screen when I tried to use the wireless device as Hyper-V external virtual switch. After the blue screen, the broadcom does not work until I remove the device from devicemanager and reinstall the drive. Any solution?  - My driver version of Broadcom 802.11ac adapter is the latest 7.35.267 as of 15-Aug-2015.  The previous version's  (for Win 8.1) result is the same.  As long as the adapter is NOT associated with Hyper-V, it seems to work fine.- OS: Windows 10 pro 64bit- 16G Memory- Virtual Technology is enabled on BIOS setting.- Hyper-V feature is enabled.  The ethernet adapter is working fine as Hyper-V extenral virtual switch. BTW, I have a sony laptop PC with Intel Wireless adapter, which works fine with Hyper-V. Will the next release of the broadcom driver solve the problem?Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.Regards,ChangeeFrom Yokohama, Japan

OK, good that it reinstalled. A couple of other things to try....Are you sure the wireless adapter is enabled? Try pressing Fn+F2, that will toggle it ON or OFF.Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. On the left side, click Change Adapter settings. Is the wireless adapter listed there? If it is, click on it & try the selections on the toolbar.

Hello all,

I've had this problem on and off for almost a year. My Acer 5750 laptop will randomly drop the connection to my router/modem.

Often I will be browsing on Firefox or another browser when suddenly the page requested will crawl along and a "page cannot be displayed" will occur. Often if I wait a few minutes, shut down the browser or laptop, reboot and it's good to go again.

The odd part is Windows will not always show a bad connection on the wireless icon on the toolbar. Sometimes there will be the yellow connection issue, but often the connection shows as working fine.

I have tried many times with a clean install of Windows Home 64bit, clean and up to date drivers from Acer. I updated the BIOS a few days ago but the problem remains.

It is not a major problem but it occurs at least a few times a day.

I also tried putting linux on the hard drive for a few days, no dropped connections but then again it was not tested very much.

The driver used is Broadcom 5.100.235.19

The actually modem/router setup seems to be fine as I never get dropped connections on my Android tablet and devices. The wife never complains of problems on her Samsung laptop which is running Windows 7 Stater, her Android tablets are good too!

I am not entirely convinced running Linux resolved the issue as I never fully tested it.

Possible network adapter dying?

Would love some suggestions, thank you.

Answer:Acer 5750 (Broadcom wireless) dropping

This type of wireless disconnect problem can be caused by a million different things but the most likely problem is the power saving feature being turned on.

You can turn this off by going into Device Manger and opening up Network Adaptors, right click the wireless adaptor you are using then click on Properties, you will have the option to turn off power saving in the power management tab.

The Broadcom drivers aren't installing the right one but if you can visit the Windows Update Center using a wired connection there is a new driver for Broadcom that works.

Lenovo and Dell both have drivers for the 4352 as well.

I compiled ndiswrapper 0.7 and installed the proper driver for ndiswrapper under Mandrake 10, but the lights don't even come on for my PCMCIA wireless card.

You can try installing an RPM which allready contains pre-compiled binaries -> Ndiswrapper @ Rpmfind.net.

Download the file & do rpm -Uvh Filename.rpm.

To see if it's properly installed do rpm -qa | grep -i ndis.

Then check out this page Getting Your WireLess NIC Working with the NDIS Wrapper Device Driver

From my Desktop PC control panel I was uninstalling some unused programs a couple of days ago, ones that were listed as Rarely Used.

One such program was Broadcom, last used in 2010 according to the list. So I uninstalled it not realizing that Broadcom is my network card (440x 10/100 integrated controller). By doing this I lost internet connectivity (I have a wired connection).

I went to Broadcom.com and downloaded drivers for their WindowsXP/32 network card to my flash drive (440x was not listed so I selected BCM5701,i think that was the only one listed for XP). I transferred these zip files to my PC, then called ATT to have them walk me thru reinstallation).

We went thru setup wizard, but the only result was a Code 10, and we could not restore connectivity. The tech advised me to purchase a wireless adapter to restore connectivity. I work from home and can connect to internet via my netbook, but it is more convenient for me to use my Desktop PC.

I then did a system restore to May 20 but that did not restore connectivity either.

Can someone please offer advice on a fix. I could get the wireless adapter as a last resort, but I would rather use what I had, which was the wired connection. Do I need to contact Broadcom to find out the correct drivers, or is their some other location online to get the right files?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Answer:Uninstalled Broadcom network card by mistake

Is this an OEM computer? If it is, what is the make and mode?

If not, open Device Manager. There should be a yellow exclamation mark next you your Network Adapters. Right click the device, select Properties. In the Details tab, select Hardware ID's in the drop down box. Copy and Paste the first line of code into your next post.

I will headed out for a bit but will return in about an hour or less.

I'm using the Yoga 3 pro-1370 since more than 6 months, after successful Windows 10 upgrade. No particular trouble (except BIOS upgrade one month ago to get rid of the flicker screen issue). One week ago  the wireless connection got lost; the Broadcom BCM4352 disappeared from Device Mgr (still present in hidden devices).  I checked the regular methods found on forums (drivers update; power management tricks on wifi; disable fast reboot; BIOS WLAN off/on; power button push >20 secs to clear status; sfc /scannow etc etc)I ran the diagnostic from Lenovo (USB boot), says nothing on HW, all tests passed. Few days ago (after power button push 20 secs) the card reappared (and wifi worked correctly), but disappeared again after restart. After upgrade of Bluetooth driver from lenovo + deactivation of Bluetooth in DeviceMgr, suddenly the Broadcom Wireless card reappeared; disappeared again after standby, but coming back if reboot. So very likely it is about the standby (when closing the notebook cover or not using the notebook for 1h etc) Any suggestion please? to start using a dongle wifi on 1500? notebook is really messy... Thanks in advance
