HP a6600f beep POST code error message

Question: HP a6600f beep POST code error message

The computer does not get past the POST. It gives a long approximately 15 second tone followed by a 10 second pause and another long tone and this sequence repeats indefinitely. No screen display. I replaced the power supply but same beep POST beep code. I removed the RAM cards and got a different beep code long beep followed by a short beep. I see others have reported this problem. Any successful fix?

I recently built a computer loaded windows 10 onto it and everything was fine. I installed a game on steam to benchmark and within 5 minutes the computer completely turned off. I tried to turn the computer back on and got nothing so i took it apart to see if i could notice anything wrong and i found nothing. I then put it back together and got a beep code(1 long 3 short) which indicates with my motherboard a video card error. So i figured the video card was dead had it tested in a friends computer it worked fine tried it in mine again and got nothing. I've also tested it in both PCI-E slots and both give no power at all to the GPU and the fans on the GPU dont spin at all but everything else seems fine. I have no idea where to go from here, Is it a bad motherboard or bad PSU? Also note the GPU was initially my friends but he upgraded to a new one and gave me his old one. I recently bought two government surplus M58 desktops (7360-P52).  Core 2 Duo E7500 + 2 x 2GB PC3-8500 + 250GB Seagate drive + Win 7 Pro installed. Both machines work without problems after boot.  Before booting, though, I count 38 short beeps at POST in quick succession on both of them. This isn't a documented code anywhere that I can find. I have tried swapping DIMMs and DIMM locations.  I have dropped in 1GB DIMMs instead.  I have changed the button battery.  Unplugged the DVD drive.  Unplugged the hard drive.  The fans seem to be running fine. I would keep swapping parts if it wasn't 38 beeps on both. I would be very grateful for a clue.

Morning all

I have a HP/Compaq D220 MT computer that is giving an 8 beep code over and over at startup. I have no video no nothing on screen. When i remove the memory it gives the correct memory beep error (3) i have removed all periferals and removed power and data cables from all devices except the MB. HP is SLOOOOOOW at trying to get Tech Support and their "live help" is kinda useless if your not using the computer that has the problem ( if i can use the computer that has the problem then why do i need LIVE HELP LOL) Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I have a problem with 5 beeps sound, and after replacing the CMOS battery, the beeps are still here...
So I'm not concerned so far why it still beeps, but i would like to know how to disable this sounds, at least temporary... because its annoying when i use headphones?
I can confirm that when i mute all sounds, using the keyboard button the beeps are also muted. How can i do the same thing but only for the 5 beeps?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Disable (post?) beep code sounds

jovan.meshkovhow to disable this sounds, at least temporary
Hello. Try this. It's for turning off system beeps. I think it will turn off the POST beeps.
1. Open the Device Manager. 2. In the View menu at the top, click “Show hidden devices”.3. Scroll down to “Non-Plug and Play Drivers” and  expand (click the + sign).4. Double click “Beep”. 5. Click the “Driver Tab” and change “Startup Type” to “Disabled”.6. Restart.
jovan.meshkovSo I'm not concerned so far why it still beeps
Until the issue with the laptop is resolved, I would be extra careful to keep a separate backup of all data.

I cannot find a list of POST codes.  This morning my X200s (2 months old) will not boot -- just the loud beeps and a blank screen -- beeps repeated over and over again. What does it mean and what do I do now?  Using an older machine I have failed to find any information on the web

This particular computer is using Pheonix Bios. During POST, I am getting 1 long, 2 short beeps as well as no feedback to the monitor which indicates a graphics card failure presumably, but I am suspicious of a motherboard failure as well.I disconnected everything except mobo, proc,1 stick of ram, and gpu and got the same code. Then, I went through all the ram slots (there are 4 on this mobo), and found 2 slots that give a different code which is infinitely repeating long beep. With the gpu disconnected I get the same 1 long 2 short beeps. Based on this, I'm not sure if I can condemn the gpu or not because of the problems I seem to be having with the motherboard as well. Seems like it may be both the gpu and the mobo. I may be able to borrow a compatible known good gpu, but I don't want to risk frying it if the problem is in the mobo itself.Any further tests or suggestions would be much appreciated.P.S. Powersupply is also a known good.

What started as repairing a friends computer eventually turned into a complete overhaul. Here is the story, He was playing eq2 one day, happy as a clam, and suddenly his comp died.  After that, it just would not start up.He broght it to me, and I replaced the psu, same issue, replaced the mobo, and nada.... after he thought about it, he decided that he wants to upgrade anyway, so asked me to get him new parts and build him a new system...So, here is the listAsus M2N32 sli am2 moboAmd Fx-62 cpu2 gigs of ddr2 ram (a-bit, or a-byte or something, it was listed in the mobo manual as being compatable)antec 900 gaming case (which has a mini tornado inside.... I mean wow lol)At first I used his exisiting graphics card... Put it together and BAM same problem.  The fans would twitch, but nothing powered up....  After I recovered from the head trauma of banging it against the wall, I took the graphics card out, and everything, started working... So I deduced that after all that, it turned out to be the graphics card.  So I replaced with:Nvidia 7950NOW everything powers up, but no display, and the beep code gives me the 1 long, and 2 short beeps, which tells me that it can't display.I have checked, rechecked, reseated.  I switched his graphics card with mine, to see if it was a defective card, and his works in my computer, but mine still had the same issue in his.The only thing I didn't replace yet is the Hard drive.Any suggestions?

Answer:No post at start up, Giving display beep code

Some motherboards hold beep codes even after the problem is fixed. One possible solution is to remove the battery, clearing the CMOS, then replacing it.

I have a T400 not on warranty. I just purchased it a week ago so I know very little about the system. Pre problem: Lap top worked fine. I placed it in hibernation for the first time and walked a block. I fell in that time. The fall was more jarring to me than the computer but I do think it could be the cause of the problem. When I got home - it would not come out of hibernation so I rebooted. The z light came on and the beep code of 1-1-1-1 occurred. Things I have tried: 1) confirmed the harddrive was still good - placed it in another T400 I have it booted no problem.2) removed the RAM - beep code changed to 1-3-3-1 longer pause 1-1-1-13) replaced the RAM4) Did the Lenovo Hard reset ( unplug, remove battery, hold down power key for 10 seconds tap 15 times put back the battery and plug lap top in.) still beep code 1-1-1-15) searched Lenovo Beep codes - this is not 4 sets of 4 beeps it is just one set of 4 short beeps with pauses.6) removed the cmoss battery and put it back in.7) Hooking up an external monitor.8) holding down the FN key9) holding down the Fn Key and the F1 key10) holding down the F1 key11) pressing the thinkvantage button.12) Pulling apart lap top and disconnecting the modem and trying to reboot. I looked over the motherboard it does not look cracked in any way. The beep code does not seem to exists and I have NO idea how to find out if the security chip was jarred in any way. Any thoughts would be appreciated Thank you&n... Read more

Answer:T400 Model# 2489 Will not post. Beep code 1-1-1-1 and Z light on.

2489 isn't a valid model.  Do you mean 2789?  In any case, your diagnostic procedure sounds correct.  I assume the main battery was out and the machine was unplugged when the CMOS battery was pulled. (either can supply power to the cmos)  One more thing:  I have found that the cmos battery needs to be out for longer than you would expect on the newer models.  I pull it out for the whole time I go through the "pushing the power button" thing.  The only other thing I would do if I had it here is to hook up a contraption that usually can read the post codes to tell where it failed.

I have an issue where my z61m won't boot when it's sitting at room temp.  Sometimes a POST beep code of 1 long 2 short will occur which points to these as culprits supposedly:  1. System board. 2. LCD assembly. 3. DIMM. However if I just let the machine sit with the power on for perhaps 15 minutes, it will then boot on a subsequent power off/power on cycling and function entirely normally. PC doctor reveals no issue with either the RAM nor the CPU nor the system board nor anything else. Any ideas on what might be going on?  I'm actually typing this post from the z61m.

Answer:Startup - won't fire up windows unless left on for 15 minutes and POST beep message now and then

hey rockstar_not,hard to say what's going on here, but could you remove the RAM and then reinsert and see if that works.also do a system update for your unit.

My Asrock K7S8X, AMD+ 2.1, 512 MB PC has always run fine, but now it starts ok although the fan seems to be racing on, then the post beep, fine, then just as the fan starts to slow and the resultant volume deceases from the aforesaid fan, a second post-style beep occurs. I have a program called MotherBoardMonitor which tells me that the minimum speed for the fan is 2500RPM, my CPU temp is (approx) 47 to 54 , Mobo temp around 31, what could the problem be, i cant find any specific info on the net after hours of looking, thanks for any help, G

Answer:startup-post beep- fan runs hard- 2nd post beep??

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds

Answer:System Error Beep on POST

Hi again, Joe, if you'll keep posting to the same thread, everyone will be able to follow what you've already tried, so we won't suggest it again.

Here's the thread so everyone knows what's up.

Now, for the beeps, how far does the system boot?

Make sure keyboard is very snuggly attached, mouse, monitor (is it getting power?) and the video card is securely in it's slot. After doing this, try moving the video card to a different slot and see if that makes any difference (unless of course, it's an AGP card).

As of this morning my computer will not start. I've had the components besides the case for a year and a half, and there haven't been any major issues with this build before. Its a pretty standard rig, heres the info:
ASrock 870 extreme 3 mobo
4GB Kingston RAM
AMD Phenom x4 Processor
ASUS graphics card (I got it used from a friend so I can't remember which model it is)
1TB Seagate HDD

However, today when I went to start it it would not even run post and there were no error beeps on startup to indicate any issues, however all of the fans spin up properly.

I tested to see if the ram or graphics card were the problem, but even with each of them removed there were still no error beeps or post, which leads me to believe that it is the mobo which is causing the issue. I'm not sure though, since I've never had a problem remotely like this before.

I would greatly appreciate any additional information or input anyone has pertaining to the situation. Thank you for your help.

Answer:PC will not start, no post, no error beep codes.

I suggest completely disassembling the build, removing everything except the PS, motherboard, and CPU/Heatsink.
If you do not get an error beep code with just those components then you know it is one of those 3.

Also, before or after that test, perform a ClearCMOS procedure, just to be sure there is not a lock-up in the BIOS.

Hey all,

I just recently got a large hardware upgrade (new mobo, video card, psu, RAM) and have run into problems getting things up and running. Here are my new specs.

Asus P5N-D 750i
OCX GeForce 8800GT 512MB
OCZ DDR2 PC26400 RAM (4GB package)
Corsair TX 650W Power Supply
Note: Using an Intel Pentium D 2.66 mhz processor from old system

I had a friend who is very experienced with installing computer hardware come by and over-see the installation. Everything was double checked that they were installed properly. When we powered on the system we got a long continuous post error beep coming from, i assume the motherboard. We tried disconnecting the RAM (didn't have another stick of working compatible DDR2 RAM to test with) and still got the same thing. My buddy seems to think my CPU may be the problem, as the video card was tested to work fine.

I guess i should also mention that last week i had a PSU malfunction that may have fried my old motherboard, so there is definitely a possibility that the old PSU also took the processor with it as well... Anyone have similar issues or know what a continuous loud post error beep on an Asus motherboard means? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Long continuous post error beep!

Well it depends a bit on what BIOS you have what a continuous beep can mean but in general it means there is a memory error but can mean a system board failure or even a PSU failure.

So what BIOS do you have?

My computer was working just fine until recently, I moved the computer to another location and it started giving me a long beep error code. Started testing RAM, Video and PSU and found out that the computer would start fine with just 1 stick of RAM. Ran a memory test for each RAM stick and they all passed with flying colors. Also, tried all the RAM sticks on a different computer and they all worked fine. As for the PSU and Video, I used different and working parts and still had the same problem. Thought it was a mobo problem and decided to buy a new one and for my surprise it did work with all the RAM sticks... once, I turned off the computer and moved it to my room and it gave me the same long beep.

My computer specs are:
P5N-E-SLI mobo
Intel Core2 E6600
GeForce 8600 GTS DDR3 512Mb
4x 1Gb Corsair DDR2 667MHz
Hitachi 500Gbs 16Mb Cache

Hey guys, I'd like to first apologize if this is in the wrong area of the forums, I'm new to TechGuy.
Grandma has a Dell Desktop(no specific model), but she was using her computer and it immediately shut off on her. She tried to turn it back on and got 4 brief beeps back to back. (beep beep beep beep........beep beep beep beep........etc etc). Tried looking for common issues, so far I'm concerned it might be either the motherboard or memory failure. Any tips will help, thanks in advance.

Hey

Thanks to anyone who looks at this post these forums have been a great help for years. Appreciated

Problem:
The PC froze in the middle of a game of Machines with a friend. Could not Ctrl-Alt-Del after 15min used manual shut down.

Now when booting I seem to get 2 tiny beeps (could be the keyboard) then about 10 seconds later 9 beeps. Nothing loads, no display. This link shows beep code errors.

Hardware:
C2D E6420
Abit IL9 Pro
2 Gig Ram @ 333Mhz
Radeon x1950 Pro

Any idea what I need to do next to isolate the broken hardware and test the machine?

Hopefully it won't be too expensive to replace

Thank you!

Answer:Solved: PC freeze then beep code - ROM error?

Have you tried to clear the CMOS? Usually there is a jumper that you move to accomplish this.

If that doesn't work, try removing everything you can, all USB connected devices, drives, adapter cards, etc. Even the video card, at least to test. See if anything changes. You may get a different beep code for the missing video card. Remove the memory, maybe swap them (if you have two sticks), or try one at a time. It may very well be that the motherboard has met it's proverbial maker ...

Hi:

I have an M2A-VM motherboard and stupidly as it turns out especially as I'm an IT professional and should know better, I decided to up rate my memory using memory from a donor machine, now here comes the stupid part, I looked at the RAM and thought that looks right without checking whether it was DDR2, it wasn't. I installed it, powered on the machine and got 1 beep [long] 2 [short] repeating, so I removed the offending RAM. But I'm still getting the 1 beep [long] 2 [short] repeating, and all I did was install that one RAM stick. So I investigated the beep codes for my AWARD bios and this is the closest I can find:

1 Long Beep, 3 Short Beeps
One long beep followed by three short beeps means that either the video card isn't installed or the memory on the video card is bad. Reseating or replacing the video card will typically fix the cause of this Award beep code.

But it cannot be the graphics card as I hadn't touched it and its brand new less than 2 weeks old but I removed and reseated it, just in case but the error reoccurred, so I tried other things without success including:

Reseating the original RAM
Installing a new PSU
Removing the graphics card completely
Disconnecting everything apart from the CPU fan and CPU power connector
In desperation even removed the four pin out black and yellow CPU power cable and that's the only thing that stop the beeping

The only thing a haven't tried is reseating the Processor and Fan, but that... Read more

Have a M55 MT-m 8810-W8T that does not display. Power i suppose is OK as it powers up and give beep code of 4-3-4-3. From what I found it is a PHOENIX BIOS Q3.07 OR 4.X version. From searching I can only find that it means that "Boot code was read OK'. After the beep code I still have no display. Have tried on-board VGA (without the PCIe videocard). Tried the PCIe videocard, different memory, reset CMOS ......but still cannot get to the BIOS not boot into Windows. So what does that exactly mean and how do I get the PC to boot up fully? Thanks for any help in advance.

My computer crashed around a week ago without reason. I rebooted my machine and when I did, my CPU fan was going mad and I got a 5 beep error code, which, according to my research is a CPU error. I tried testing my ram(1 stick at a time), I tried reseating all my connections to the motherboard including the GPU(and booting without CPU), I tried clearing the BIOS with the battery. Eventually it booted up fine like nothing happened. Fast forward to today, and it did it again. I just pulled it out of sleep and bam it crashes. On reboot again it got 5 beeps and a mad fan. This time I just waited, left it on.... I eventually heard windows turn on, but my monitors did not do anything. WTF? I turned it off again, waited like 5-10m, and rebooted. It started up as normal, NO changes made to anything. I  don't even?
Really upset this is happening; posting here before I contact gigabyte or intel.

But it doesn't seem to fit my problem.ProblemMy computer freezes so i'd no choice but to switch off the power. I have Phoenix-Award BIOS ROM. motherboard: Chaintech CT-SK8T800I also used a 2nd monitor to test - still have the beep code. the power LED is on.What hardware problem is it? Hopefully someone can help me so that I can hop down to the IT fair this Saturday to buy the neccessary components. Thanks much!

Hi All,
Just finished installing a replacement motherboard in this Inspiron M5030 laptop. The original problem was no power to laptop, no fan, no boot. Tried another known working Dell AC adapter i had and no luck with it. Tried removing Optical drive, Memory modules one at a time and ran diagnostic on hard drive after removing it and putting in another computer. Still could not get laptop to boot.
I now have a different issue where i can not get a display on the LCD. I am able to hook up an external LCD and get the display to work on it.I was able to run the Dell diagnostics and im getting an error code of 0413. The code means LCD cable not detected. I reseated the cable and still have the same issue. The cable and connector look fine and none of the pins look damaged.Im getting what appears to be 2 different BIOS beep codes when first starting the laptop. The first one is a series of 3 short beeps, followed by 2 quick beeps and then repeats. This happens several times and then i get 8 beeps which repeat several times as well. Beep codes stop and it does boot to the Windows 7 login screen on the external LCD.
Im able to stay at the Windows 7 Login screen without issue for over 15 mins. I have tried entering the BIOS to attempt changing the Service Tag, but the laptop shuts off after a minute or 2. Same thing if i hit F12 and dont make a choice.
So something more than the LCD cable seems to be at fault here. Looking at the Service Manual from here: http://support.dell.com... Read more

Hi there,

I have a toshiba tecra s1 and it's not working anymore, and I don't know why.

When I want to start the notebook there's nothing wrong, but after 3 minutes or so the screen isn't responding anymore. Then I tried to restart, it gives a black screen and several beeps. The beeps are:
short, short, long, pause, short, short, shorter.

And this it repeates itself. When I wait for several days it will start again and then after 3 minutes it will "crash" again.

What is the matter with my laptop? Why does it work, and after 3 minutes doesn't work anymore?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards!

Answer:Tecra S1: Blank screen and beep error code appears

Hi

Does the notebook boot correctly into the Windows OS???

Usually the strange beep error code appears because there is a hardware problem on the S1 and the POST (power on self test) cannot be passed correctly.
If the computer fails the POST, the computer then returns a beep code indicating what is causing the computer not to pass the POST.

The problem is that all different BIOS systems support different code meanings.
As far as I know Toshiba Tecra S1 uses Toshiba BIOS and only the ASP can read this code and know what it means. I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country for a help!

PS: Check this interesting page about additional information on computer POST / Beep codes

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I built a new PC and am having a problem with the boot up. First one was a memory problem but that just turned out as a bad stick. Using a stick from a buddy until my RMA comes back and now am past the C1 stage but now it will run through everything, hit a 75 and then hang on a 7F. The monitor never gets any feed because the light just blinks as a no video feed. Could I be running some incompatible stuff? Here's what I've got so far. Sys: W2K, SP4; IE6, 512megs SDRAM, 1.2 gig AMD Athlon CPU, ECS K7SEM mobo, Award 6 Bios.

Problem: Upon system startup, power comes on, but nothing else--no beep to indicated the system has entered POST. After several tries, it will finally beep and the harware will come to life.

Once working it will usually keep working as you'd normally expect as power cycle to work. It's mainly after sever hours of being off and now always, over night that the error occurs--no power to the hardware, until several tries.

History: Recently been hit with many Trojans & viruses. They've made it past my NAT router, past my software firewall and have taken apart my McAfee AV program. But they have been contained, before they could do any damage, so I hoped, except I just got a bounced email yesterday, that shows I have been spoofed and my address book copied and is being sent to. So a Trojan got in.

I have SpyBot S&D, Ad-aware, McAfee VS8, two firewalls going. I have cleaned all the viruses/Trojans off the system, out of the registry with S&D, Ad-Aware, VS8, Trendmicros VS and Pandasofts VS programs. As well as using CWShreeder, MRU Blaster, BHO removers, HiJackThis.
The system is clean. no hidden files, every thing ok. It doesn't seem to be an OS problem.

A week ago, my power supply went out.
I replaced it.
It's since replacing it and getting all the viurs/trojan hits that the problem has begun.

I thought it might be the new PS, so I put in another, ... Read more

Motherboard:
PCCHIPS Model M810DLU (ver 5.2a)
BIOS:
AMI 62-1111-001131-00101111-040201-SiS740- M810D

I pulled this MB off my shelf of "projects". When I tried to make this work in the past, it always failed to boot. However, I discovered yesterday that 2 of my 3 Socket 462 "project" CPUs didn't work at all. #3 project chip - Athlon 2100+ does work.

So I put that project MB and project chip together, and the combo worked. I was able to boot from a live linux CD and from a Bart PE CD. That's the good news.

The bad news is that this combo - loaded with memory, video, drives, and any of 3 brand new 450W power supplies - occasionally fails to boot.
When it dies,

it's on one of the first 10 instructions
fails on POST Code 'dF'
resets the DRAM and CPU rates from 133 to 100 - changing my CPU from a 2100+ to a 1500+ -- PS: I know that an Athlon XP 2100+ actually operates at 1733Mhz

The Power Supply stays on and other MB accessories (CPU fan, drives as examples) continue to function. The video does not light up because it's too soon in the POST to display.

Normally that would be no big deal: look up the POST code and see where it failed. The problem is that I can't find any reference to a code 'dF' in any AMI or Award documentation or in the documentation available from PCCHIPS.

I've Googled terms like
+ pcchips + motherboard + m810d + "boot" + df
I've always gotten lots of hits, but nothi... Read more

Answer:Solved: Odd BIOS (POST) Error Code

Good Evening snorkytheweasel, I was just reading your post and the M810 looked familiar, quite coincidentally I have one in front of me right now. It is a M810LM slightly different but close.

It doesn't even post!

It did have an odd fail problem before it died. It originally had an Athlon in it.

I tried a Duron 1900 in it and it failed to work also.

I don't think this board is worth playing with further.

That hanging boot symptom is typical of a low 5 volt rail from the PSU.
One last effort may be tried by using a digital meter set to read a DC voltage higher than 10 volts and measuring one of the PSU drive power plugs between the red and black wires in a powered mode. That 5v is critical.

I have no idea what a df code is.

Ok so i'm on my pc, chatting up girls, looking at crap, listening to crap, when all of a sudden I can't type, and can't use my mouse, I check, and the light is off on the underneath of my mouse, and the lights are no longer functioning on my keyboard (num lock etc), so what do I do? Reset of course...
I hit the reset button, it resets, but doesn't boot up, instead gets to the Abit screen and doesn't load up windows.

I turn off the power completely, try again, it doesn't turn on at all now. After a few times of it turning on and getting to the Abit screen, and some times it not even powering up at all, I check my motherboard manual for the diagnosis, it's post code 50, so i look up code 50 in the back of the manual, and there it is: 'Initialize USB'.
Does anyone have a clue as to what this means, I mean, reinstall usb drivers? Can't do that if it ain't booting up, right? Tried sketchily resetting the CMOS, nothing changed, tried moving jumpers to enable/disable certain usb ports. I don't know what else to do, never had any problems like this before with it.

Setup is in my sig, i had my mic, webcam, mouse and keyboard plugged into usb ports at the time. Tried turning it on with em not plugged in, with em plugged in different ports etc. I'd be SO grateful if you could take the time to reply. THANKSS

Answer:Abit AN8 post code error: 50 - initialize usb.

Try just booting with the core component. Disconnect or unplug any other device beside the CPU, RAM, Video Card and keyboard. See if you can get pass POST and this error.

Hi all at TSG,

I recently bought an Abit ip35 pro motherboard from a reputable ebay seller who had verified it working before sending. With my components (see below), the motherboard does not post and instead gets stuck on error code 9.0. Everything else: drives etc power up fine. I have tried an out-of-case setup to no avail and have switched almost all components with others. I still get the error code 9.0 on my led display. There is no output to the monitor whatsoever. Here are the components I used during my simple boot procedure:

PSU: Thermaltake TR2-470W (and tried with Winpower ATX-450)
RAM: Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) CAS 4 1gb stick (out of a possible 4x1gb sticks available) (and tried with ADATA 2gb DDR2-667 stick)
GFX: Geforce 7200GS (and tried with my 8800GT 512mb)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 with stock intel fan (tried with Q6600 also)

Thanks for your time and help! I have tried clearing CMOS countless times, holding out the insert key when booting, pressing delete after powering on.) Additional info: there is a loud siren sound (up-down-up-down) that comes from a speaker that I attached to the motherboard's header.

Cheers,

Fishpan

Hi,

My computer has been like this since I installed my graphics card (x1800GTO PCI-E), but I have ignored the situation since taking components out one by one and still getting the error beeps. Also, the computer starts up properly after about 15-20 minutes of leaving it anyway.

The error code is: 1 long beep and 3 short beeps, and on consulting a website, it seems that for an American Megatrends BIOS, this means that:

You've probably just added memory to the motherboard since this is a conventional or extended memory failure. Generally this is caused by a memory chip that is not seated properly. Reseat the memory chips.Click to expand...

Yet this cannot be the problem as the memory is seated properly, I am sure of that, and after 20 minutes the system starts up fine.

Another website says that 1 long beep and 3 short ones means this:

Video failureClick to expand...

With no further description I believe that this might be right, and coupled with another website's description of "extended memory failure", this could be the GPU's memory failing (overeating I suspect). As it seems the error is based on time (leave the PC for 15-20 minutes and it starts up fine), this leads me to believe that it is a overheating/cooling error, with either the GPU memory or something else.

As the PC is happy to run for 8+ hours everyday with no lock-ups or other errors, yet cannot restart due to this error, I can't see that ... Read more

In the link you provided, the fix was new firmware (provided by Samsung) for the Samsung SSDs that Lenovo qualifies and sells in ThinkPad systems.  Since the drive you are trying to use is not a Lenovo-qualified drive, you will need to contact Samsung directly for support about this issue, and to find out if they have any firmware update available for it.

Question: post error message

Having just got win98se up and running on a new Asus A7N8X mobo I have noticed that on post my system reports that the "secondary IDE channel has no 80 pin connector cable connected".My secondary IDE channel has both a CDROM and DVDROM attached on one cable (so it must be 80pin if I understand correctly). So what could be causing this and do I need to worry about it? Both drives seem to be working okay as far as I can tell although I haven't tried any CD burning as yet.Might it be anything to do with Hyperos (which I also have installed, or is it more likely, as I suspect, a windows thing?

Answer:post error message

POST comes way before any operating system even gets off the ground. The message is what it is. You do not have an 80-wire (NOT pin) IDE cable on the secondary channel. Neither do you normally requore one for optiacl drives.Look at the two IDE cables in your system and you will soon see the difference in the number of wires in them (unless you have round or sheathed cables).Anyway, you can ignore the message unless you really want to get a second 80-wire cable. It will have no practical effect. I have come across some optical drives that were not happy with 80-wire cables - but more recent ones should be OK, if you want to replace the cable.

Ok. Video: ALBATRON GeForce 4 TI4200P (NVIDIA GeForce4 TI4200 GPU), 128MB DDR, DVI+VGA TV-Out.

Built it about 7 years ago. It was my first and only build. Since then I haven't keep up with computer hardware, so bear with me here.

The thing has worked great over the years. But last week out of nowhere it stopped booting. When I try and power on it the monitor says there is no signal coming in and I get one long beep immediately followed by two short beeps. I believe my bios is Award, which from google searches would indicate my video card is causing the problem. I can hear it reading the hard drive as it usually does, but after that it's just silence other than the fans & processor running.

In case it may be pertinent, I made a couple of "upgrades" recently (January). I installed a new heatsink & fan on the CPU to address occasional heat issues. Since I did that I had no indication of any heat issues (ie no symptoms of overheating, and according to motherboard monitor the inside temp was fine when I checked it) so my $.02 is that this current problem is unrelated. I also installed more memory at that time, but again I had no issues with the memory since then so I believe it to be unrelated too.

I've removed and re-seated the video card but no dice. This is kind of out of my realm of knowledge now b/c I don't know how to troubleshoo... Read more

Hi

I hope I can help you.

I would recommend removing this tool from the operating system.
You can remove it from the ?add & remove programs? which can be found in the control panel.

Then download the new tool from the Toshiba page and install it again!!

Good luck

Hello, there are a couple servers I have been working on, and they seem to be fine; except for one thing.....after POST is about finished, a faunt pops up in bright Yello stating "There is an error or information press F1 to continue or F2 to read" when I press F2 it brings me to this constant loop of RED text stating random numbers/ acronyms which I know is probably a certain code of sorts for a problem. but I'm completely lost on what it means.

Hi all - First, I have never published a blog post using Microsoft Word before and am looking for someone who has done it or can make it work. Typically, this might be done with a SharePoint back-end, but I am using WordPress as my back-end.
I have successfully "registered" with my back-end
I get an error "Word cannot publish this post."

In this KB article Error message when you try to publish a new blog post in Word 2007: "Word cannot publish this post" the problem is described, but the work around is foreign to me, despite many years of working with Word.

The article (the only one I have located on this problem) suggests that CATEGORIES are the problem but admittedly, I have no idea how to create, edit or delete them in Word.

Steps to reproduce the problem:Create a new (empty) blog post in Word
Type some text (Lorem Ipsum will do)
Click Publish
Observe error message "Word cannot publish this post."
Verify error condition by pressing CTRL+SHFT+I and observing code 701797 appears in lower right of error dialog.

This sequence assumes you have previously set up and connected to your back-end. If you don't have one, create a brand new test wordpress.com account (e.g. mytest.wordpress.com) and connect using URL http://mytest.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php along with your wordpress user name and password. The first time you try to post, you will be prompted for the Blog Post URL to connect to and can manage that information under... Read more

I used the Microsoft update page to load the most recent patches for my Office 2000 installation and ever since then I get an error dialogue box whenever I start Outlook 2000. The box says: ‘C:\Documents and Settings\jrstrube\Application Data\Microsoft\Addins’ is not a valid add-in OK. I Click Ok and Outlook continues to load without problem. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall with no effect. I am running Windows 2000 Professional. Any suggestions on how to eliminate this error?

Thanks

Had this same problem on Inspiron 1545.  Just wanted add what I did that seems to have solved the problem, I'll let u know if it stops working again.  Will be posting this elsewhere as well.

Laymans:
I booted off the dell OS disk by pressing f12 at startup and selecting CD-rom/DVD.
After files load, Click repair OS instead of Install.
Click Command Prompt.  Type C:\   Hit Enter
Type in chkdsk     Hit Enter
After chkdsk runs, If you have the same problem I did, it will say unable to repair in read-only mode.
on C:\, Type chkdsk/r
It will prompt you that all handles will be invalid, type y and press enter.
chkdsk fixed my problem, Reboot by typing exit and press enter.
Start Windows Normally.

Hope this helps, def post again if it happens again.

Hi There,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum,

Recently I went to turn on my IBM Thinkpad t23 and when doing so I got the error message 0175, Bad CRC1, stop POST task.

Should I be replacing the lithium backup battery? or would that cause this error message? I have also read that it is the eeprom chip that is corrupt.

I can't get to the IBM BIOS setup Utility, or the temporary boot devices.

Any ideas on how I can fix this or what the problem is?

Thanks,
Brandon

Answer:Help, Error message 0175, Bad CRC1, stop POST task

Yes, it may be caused by a dying CMOS battery, and for the cost of one (approx. $5 CDN), it is typically worth eliminating as a suspect. They are usually CR2032s, and can be found at most electronics stores like FutureShop, RadioShack, The Source, etc.

You might also test your memory. I recommend Memtest86+ for the job.

I have just fixed my brothers computer which involved a full format and reinstall of Winxp home. Everything is working OK apart from the sound I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling it finds them OK and installs them OK but I get an error code 10 unable to start device error message. It is the c-media ac98 device that shows a yellow exclamation mark next to it in the device manager list. I did read somewhere that this can be caused by a conflict in the IQ setting with some other installed device. It would appear it is conflicting with something as if I boot up in safe mode there is no yellow exclamation mark next to the offending device in device manager.Anyone any idea how to resolve this problem.

For no apparent reason, my computer (P III, 1G speed, 512 Meg RAM, W2K Pro) tells me that my optical devices (SAF CD Burner and LiteOn DVD) won't start. The error message indicates "incorrect environment." Nothing unusual has happened to the machine, which is left on 24/7. The BIOS indicates that it is willing to start the devices. W2K sees them. Their ready lights flash on POST. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling using Windows drivers. Nothing changed. The computer does a memory dump on reboot. What is going on?

WOW, has this problem been driving me buggers all day. I've been attempting to download various software programs, including "Registry Mechanic" (yes... ironic isn't it) and keep getting the following error message:

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Phooey, what a headache!! Lots of Goole searching, and what few hits I turn up seem to be virtually useless. Most hits seem to indicate a problem with Bitdefender. I do not have Bitdefenderalthough I did use their on-line scanning process just last week. Drove me crazy looking for a clue in program files, etc. Finally went to Internet Options where it gave me the option to "delete the Bitdefender on-line scanner" which accomplished absolutely nothing whatsoever. Oh, woe is me. :-( ... Anyway... a couple of those google hits also suggested that Bitdefender would possibly cause --->> bdss.exe that could be the culprit. Embarassed to concede I wasn't sure how to proceed at that point to even delete or somehow negate the "bdss.exe" problem IF that even has anything to do with it.

Answer:Error message--> Movefile failed Code 32

This error is related to installed antivirus, antispyware, or behavior Guard type software on a machine. I was able to get rid of the message and complete installation on a friend's machine by "suspending" PC Tools' "Threatfire." Norton is another one that will do the same thing, however, on selective machines.

After done installing, you may re-enable the program and the installed application will work fine.

None of the other solutions that were suggested by other forums worked for me either. Remember, cleaning up registry will, most probably cause more harm then good. Good luck.

Hi all,

Anyway when I got it I thought I would just try to uninstall some programs. Long story short it gave me a blue screen "stop error". When I tried to re-boot it doesn't post and it doesn't give me a beep. It just turns on for a few seconds and shuts off. Could the power supply be failing?

Any input is appreciated.

Question: help! no post beep

i've assembled a pc which will not start. it came as a case/mobo/cpu/fan/memory fully assembled. i've added a hdd and 2 optical drives and a floppy drive. when i power up the fan spins and the power light is on and the hdd light flashes. on the screen the memory count is shown and the drives are detected. there is no post beep and when i press del to enter setup nothing happens. it is a good keyboard. i have tried clearing cmos by resetting the clear cmos jumper and tried swapping memory sticks with known good memory to no avail i just cannot get into cmos or any further than the screen which shows that the drives have been detected. can anyone help, please.

Answer:help! no post beep

No post beep!case speaker connected? However if it gets to POST screen where drives are detected then motherboard cpu psu memory are ok.Next it should access operating system from either CD floppy or HDD, depending on how set up in BIOS.There will be an message to tell you which keys to press to enter "setup" something like del esc F10 etc.If your HDD is from an old system has it got an op system installed? If so then the drivers for the old boards will conflict with the new.Either:no op system then boot from CD or floppy and install windowsold op system boot from CD or floppy and format drive and install new op system.
