ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Question: ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Since I've installed Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20C0-S0AX00), I've never been able to get audio via HDMI working. In theory, it looks like it's all fine: ? In practice, however, no audio is transmitted via HDMI (I tried it with different monitors), and the video signal of any application trying to play audio over HDMI is stuttering ? as if it's trying to sync audio and video, but failing for some reason. As soon as the output device is changed, the video plays smoothly again. Changing the "Default Format" did not change anything. Currently, "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)" is selected. A support ticket I opened quickly after upgrading to Windows 10 promised a driver update to fix this. A more recent ticket advised me to revert to the stock Windows 8.1 installation instead, which I refuse to do. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Hi

I have a different Thinkpad Yoga. Checking your issue I wonder if you would like to do some "trial and error" like:

1) Try a different HDMI cable, you never know.
2) Check the driver version of you Intel Display Audio. Here it is mine:
?
3) Just in case check the Lenovo Support site for your model and try updating the Intel Video and Realtek drivers just in case.

This is only that cames to my mind right now.

Answer:No HDMI Audio after Windows 10 upgrade Thinkpad Yoga S1

Hi

Have you also tried to check con "Control Panel - Sound" ? On the "Playback" tab you can see all the "sound output" device, included the HDMI to see which one is working. You can also right click it and select "test". If the HDMI output sound does not show there, it may be a drivers issue.

I always try to keep the drivers updated against the Lenovo support site for my model. I try to update drivers on this order.
1) Use Windows Update
2) Use Lenovo System Update
3) Install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings
4) Sometimes this tools miss to install some updated drivers, so I also try the Support site.

I hope this can give you some hints.

Regards

Two weeks ago I did a fresh install of Windows 10 Creators Update and I noticed, that I am missing HDMI sound device. Everythings worked fine on Windows 10 Anniversary Update version. I did a clean install, not an update. I have all drivers up-to-date. I also used Lenovo System Update to check, if there is any new drivers available. Still no HDMI sound device in Windows device manager. Anyone encountered this kind of problem? My Thinkpad X260 works like a charm on Windows 10 CU except this issue. Hi I wonder if anyone else has had this problem, and more importantly if anyone else knows the solution? The ProblemIn the past few weeks, using the Lenovo-supplied mini HDMI to VGA adaptor has caused intermittent problems:-Immobilising the system so that the only thing that works is the mouse cursor (but icons on the desktop and within programs won't work)Causing a blue screen of deathBut on some occasions it works perfectlyWith the adaptor removed, everything is fine & stable apart from:-The system won't shut down correctly (it just hangs and says its shutting down but never does)The system won't go to sleep properly (power light remains on)The system won't "wake up" when the lid is openedWhen the problem first arose, it was just the system "freeze" issue, which fixed itself.  After trying to use the adaptor unsuccessfully a couple of days ago I had the blue screen of death and now have the additional "shut down" and "sleep" issues which don't seem to have gone away. I should mention as well that for some reason when I plugged in the HDMI-VGA lead at one point, the system crashed and took me to a BIOS screen rather than re-booting.  The system is now performing a disk scan on booting up, which it didn't before. This seems to be an issue caused by the HDMI-VGA adaptor, but how on earth this can have such an effect I really don't know.  I have ordered a replacement so that I can check this out. Right now I am in the process of check... I recently decided to upgrade my choice of laptop from an acer to a Lenovo Thinkpad yoga. Everything was going great with the laptop until I connected it to my SONY TV with a HDMI to HDMI mini adapter (amazon.co.uk link) and a standard HDMI cable i used with my acer. The quality seemed OK until i started the Film, the film plays fine on the computer screen but on the TV it has about 6 lateral lines that slice across the screen and cut the moving image almost like a flicker but very noticeable. This is not just the film/videos it also happens when i move my mouse or when anything moves on the screen. The audio however is fine. A bit annoyed i assumed it must have been the adapter so I bought a HDMI to HDMI mini cable instead (amazon.co.uk link). However the cable has the same issue, I know it can't be the TV so it must be the Laptop. I searched around the forum for a similar issue and found this Yoga 2 Pro issue (Link), so i cut down the plastic on the adapter by a millimeter but still have the problem. From what is otherwise a great laptop this is poor as i frequently like to hook my laptop up to my TV for a good movie night and even my £300 acer could handle that. Please HELP!

Connecting my new Lenovo Thinkpad yoga to an external monitor (Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD) with the mini-HDMI port to the HDMI port in the monitor, results in very bad display quality: text is fuzzy, edges, lines and text seems with white halo, as if this is not the native resolution of the screen (the screen native resolution is 1920x1080 and this is indeed the resolution I use). When connecting my old X220 to the same screen, but with a VGA to VGA cable, I get excellent display. What's going on?

My mini HDMI output has stopped working. No video no sound on the external screen. I've updated everything- Windows, Intel Graphics drivers, all the critical updates on the Lenovo companion app but still no luck. The computer doesn't even seem to recognise that the output is connected (the little sound that plays when the cable is plugged in doesn't play). I have tested the cable and monitor on another lenovo device and all works fine.  Frustratingly the output seems to work when connected via the Thinkpad Dock.  Also of note: the advanced display settings no longer takes me to the desktop verison of the application. Even if I go through the control panel, but takes me to the basic windows 10 interface, Anybody have any ideas- I really need to be able to project from my computer

When I connect a TV through HDMI the sound is not re-routed to the TV. The TV sound is also not appearing in the Playback Devices of the Sound  control panel in the bottom right corner. In order to make it worked I need to do the following :- Connect the HDMI cable and ensure the TV screen is displaying the laptop screen.- Put the Laptop on Sleep- Resume the laptop. in  90% of the case then the sound is re-routed to the tv but it is a bit of pain to do it every time. If it does not work I put the laptop to sleep again. Any idea how to make it worked all the time. It worked like a charm on my X1 1st generation. Thanks,Laurent

I was having sound issues (cracking and popping) as well issues with audio on WiDi until I stopped the program Discovery.exe using Task Manager.  I removed the program Lenovo EMC Storage Connector (which is what is called) using the Control Panel.  Since then no more popping and audio issues.  No promises that is your issue but it was mine.

So I'm really at a loss with this issue.  I've done so much troubleshooting to no avail.  Removed soundcard and bluetooth and reinstalled.  Installed new drivers.  Deleting and repairing devices. Changing the WiFi to "Prefer 5.2GHz band".  Other troubleshooting based on discussions on other forums... The Problem. Brand new Thinkpad P71.  I have two of the same external speakers I've used with my iPhone via Bluetooth to stream audio and never had a problem.  The speakers are the Oontz 3XL. When I connect with my P71, it can go 24 hours or two minutes, but it will just suddenly stop playing audio.  The blue light on the speaker will turn off.  To get it to work again, I'll have to close the audio app and reconnect the Bluetooh.  Then it will run for anywhere from one minute to 24 hours and disconnect again. I also just bought a brand new Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2nd gen).  Exact same problem.  Did all the same troubleshooting. I mostly stream Sirius XM from a browser (and have tried different browsers as well).  I also play audio from iTunes.  The weird thing with iTunes is that when this happens, the Play/Pause button in the software will also stop working, unless I close the app and restart. It's definitely a Lenovo problem, since I am encountering the same problem on both systems.  I don't know if this could be related to BitDefender and/or Malware Bytes (both are inst... I do too! However I noticed, oddly enough, that the phenomenon goes away when I plug the thing into AC power. Also, when I first upgraded to W10, there were some major changes to the sound capabilites - I could watch a YouTube video comfortably at maybe 4 in W8.1 while I had to crank it up past 80 in W10. After updating to W10v1511 this issue has since been fixed, and the volume of this hissing has also decreased.I tried a good many things too. Reinstalling the sound drivers, and all that.

Have a good day.

When a Windows 8 ThinkPad Yoga is connected to a ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock (Model DU9033S1) which has a sound cable placed into its headphone jack, every few seconds the sound will alternate between the laptop speakers and the docking station. It appears that the connection to the docking station is briefly lost (sound comes from laptop speakers), and then re-established (sound goes to docking station). However, during this "disconnect/connect", all other aspects of the docking station are unaffected (video, network, USB).

Updating BIOS, audio drivers, dock drivers & firmware have had no impact. If sound cable is removed from dock, then behaves normally (sound goes to dock only). Happens with multiple Thinkpad Yogas and multiple docking stations.

I explained this on other forum so  I'll just copy it here: "I've got some odd behavior with sounds. It could be normal, I don't know. I hear a faint click sound before and after some sound, for example windows alert sound. Just go to sound options in control panel and play those notification sounds. I hear it like this: first faint clik, then the actual sound, then click again. This happens with speakers and headphones. Have anyone else experienced this? One example of watching youtube videos. When the video starts, first I hear a click and then comes the sound. There's also quite audible hiss when the soundcard switches on. When I pause the video, after about 10 seconds another click and the soundcard switches off, also the hiss is gone. Maybe the audio output is just so bad and that's why there's so much hiss or white noise." It's pretty similar problem than with this post T510 audio speakers clicking before & after all samples played & mutingExcept it happens with speakers and headphones and I don't hear clicking when muting or unmuting. Is there something that can be done or is my sound output faulty?

I purchased an external monitor on Friday.  It worked on Friday and Saturday. Sunday when I booted up, the external monitor no longer worked. The history appears to show an automatic update occurred overnight.  I was running Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to 10.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the intel video driver, I reinstalled the chipset driver.  I have trimmed the micro HDMI cord as suggested in one of the posts.  I have seen enough posts on the various boards to know my issue does not seem to be an isolated case... but I haven't been able to find an explanation of the cause or a reliable solution.  Any help is appreciated.

the HDMI sound is most likely off your GPU but that series seems to not have a HDMI port so that is odd. If you can make sure your onboard audio is on in your BIOS and also run the tool on this page so that you can update all your system info for us. System Info - See Your System Specs

Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I finally got video and sound to come out both the mobo and the NVidia video/HDMI card.
MOBO is Foxconn G41MXE. Sound system on mobo is NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition audio Controller, by Intel.
Video Card is GeForce GTX 550 Ti, with NVidia GF116 High Definition Audio Controller. Video card has HDMI output
connected to TV set, containing both video and sound. (Video from NVidia goes to both monitor and TV.)
Windows 8.1 with all updated drivers, as far as i know, based on two driver update apps. In Windows, there is
a significant delay between the audio coming from the mobo sound to the local speakers and the sound out of the
TV set. In PCLinuxOS on the same machine, there is hardly any delay. It is thus painful to watch a movie or a Youtube performance with any kind of speech or singing on Windows, due to the lack of lip-sync.
I need to know of there is a fix for this, and if so, where do I find it, or can somebody please post it here?

Thanx for your assistance--doug

Answer:mobo sound and HDMI sound not synced in Windows 8.1

You are using two separate "sound cards" (chips) at the same time (one in the Video Card and one on the motherboard). The processing in the chip can cause a delay or out of sync. Windows is designed to only have one default audio playback device. Circumventing that can cause problems, such as you hear.

Answer:Can't Project My Yoga to TV w/ HDMI or MS Wireless Display after Windows 10 Upgrade

When I saw your message, I realized that I have not yet tried to project to my Netgear PTV3000 wireless display adapter, connected to my Samsung 55" UN55B8500 HDTV, after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro more than a week ago. I've had my Yoga 2 Pro for about 17 months and it initially worked well projecting to the PTV3000. However, after a month or so, it stopped working completely under Windows 8.1 and I could never get it to work again. After seeing your message, I decided to try it with Windows 10. To my total surprise, it is working perfectly once again. I did a "clean" upgrade to Windows 10 and have installed all of the latest Lenovo drivers and the latest Intel graphics driver (version 10.18.15.4256) which was installed automatically during the upgrade. It's great to have it working again. I wish you luck in getting your "projection" working again. So far I'm very pleased with the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro even though I had a hell-of-a-time doing the upgrade. I was forced to do a complete factory reset and add all of the Windows 8.1 updates (which took well over a full day) in order to get the upgrade to proceed.

I recently updated to Windows 8.1 (big mistake!), and I am suddenly no loger able to connect my Yoga 13 to my Samsung TV through the HDMI output.  When I connect the cable, the laptop screen is deactivated; the TV registers a signal, but displays a black screen with no audio.  I was able to duplicate displays (even though the TV remained black), and the Screen Resolution dialogue said that no external display was detected. I've already upgraded to all of the latest drivers, to no avail.  I can't seem to find a solution on the forum or anywhere else.  Anyone have an idea what the problem may be?

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week and everything was smooth.  Today when rebooting my system, the unit no longer can see my external display.  I have tried multiple other displays and none seem to work.  I have the latest video drivers for Win10 from the support site installed but it still doesn't work.  Any thoughts?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro + Windows 10 = External Monitor not working via micro HDMI

I experienced the same - and also inconsistently that the system is going sluggish/lagging heavily. To fix problem with HDMI downgrade to drivers for Win8.1 - it works but hopefully Lenovo will fix this issue with Win10 drivers!? Overall upgrading to Win10 has been a bad experience (regarding the lagging of the system which usually occurs after 20-30 min after logging on). I've tried removing all third-party startup programs (including Lenovos) - but to no help. The frustration is increasing - any tips will be appreciated :-)

Hi, I have a thinkpad X1 carbon 2014 (20A7) and its not playing audio over HDMI, I have tried the following: 1. Uninstall and reinstall display and audio drivers, this did not help. (although after i uninstall the display drivers i do get the option to play audio over HDMI in windows playback dialog box, otherwise i dont get any option for it to play audio over HDMI in that section) (also note i propperly uninstalled my display drivers using DDU, still no help). i also used an older version of the display divers, it did not help. 2. I used 2 HDMI cables and 2 TVs, still nothing. 3. you may think my laptop is faulty at this point but no, i booted into ubuntu and it worked fine without any issue, flawless audio playback without a hitch. FAQ:Q: is it just the audio or the video is not working too.A: Just the audio, video is fine. Q: Is your tv being detected by the device manger.A: yes, but as a generic monitor, the tvs name dosent show up.Q: Have you tried turning it off and on again.A: Yes, several times Q: Have you reinstalled windows recently?A: Yes, i reinstalled about 2 weeks ago, before that it worked fine (although it has been a year since i used audio over HDMI)

When I use an external monitor on my Thinkpad Yoga the machine freezes when going into "display off" mode in Windows 8.1. The lights on the keyboard still lighting and the screen is of course off, but when I press any keys and moves the mouse the machine is doesn't respond at all. Also the fan increases in speed and noise. The only way to get the machine to work again is to do a reset by holding the power button for some seconds. Anyone have a solution to this problem or have experienced the same problem? Machine: 20CD-0038MNDrivers: All latest drivers from Lenovo support installedOS: Preinstalled Windows 8.1 64 bit

Hi, I just got my new thinkpad yoga 370 that comes with windows 10 preinstalled and I'd like to do a Clean Install of Windows 7. Whoever I'm worried about drivers/comptibility issues, for example that the touch screen doesn't work anymore or that the wacom pen isn't compatible anymore.  Has someone tried to install windows 7 on one of these laptops or do you know if it's possible? If so what precautions should I take? Which drivers will I have to download after the install to make everything work properly? Thank you

I'm looking for some help with getting my computer to function correctly after loading the following Windows 10 updates last night: Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB4011188) 32-Bit Edition2017-11 Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4049011)2017-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4048954)2017-11 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4048951)Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553204) 32-Bit Edition After I rebooted Windows with the updates, I was surprised to find that I could no longer use my external HDMI display or turn the display brightness of my Lenovo screen up/down.   I checked the display driver, and it was last updated eight months ago, 3/28/17, and there are no new updates available.  I went to Lenovo's support website and checked for updated drivers and software, but it said I was up to date.  I also ran the diagnostic scan from their website, and it said everything checked out good.  I have a 13" laptop because I use an external monitor at home, so doing work on this screen is difficult especially at full brightness.  Please, help!  Thanks,BW

Hello, When I suspend my laptop (windows 10.1 -> sleep), I can't wake it up. The red led is in sleep mode but the switch on/off button does nothing. The only way out is a long press on the switch on/off button to shutdown the laptop and start it back normally. What could it be? Is there another way to wake up the laptop? Thank you for your help! Cheers,

Ever since I installed windows 10 the throttling on my yoga 15 has been rediculous. If the computer remotly heats up the programs that I am using slow down to a crawl randomly. This is especially evident on steam games and other heavy programs that require the dedicated graphics card. I have tried everything from reinstalling the nvidia drivers, updating the bios, clean installing windows 10, anything. I have not been able to find a solution for this and its getting quite annoying having my fps drop from 90 or 60 yo 5 every few seconds when before I could keep a solid 60+. Sometimes the fan revs up and down as my frame rates goes up and down. Has anyone found a solution for this? Or has Lenovo done released anything?

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

Greetings: I have a Thinkpad Yoga (Type 20CD, Model 00B1US) that shipped with Windows 8 Pro installed.  I later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.  I need to reformat as the machine is sluggish at times.   Any suggestions/tips for doing a complete reformat of the hard drive and then a clean install using Windows 10 Pro?  My concern is impacting the BIOS or losing any of the Lenovo drivers for things like the function keys, keyboard light, screen digitizer, etc.  I am assuming simply reinstalling Windows 10 Pro (instead of reformatting and then reinstalling Windows 10 Pro) will not provide the performance boost I am looking for. Thank you in advance for your input.

I'd like to ask about your experience with updating your 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12 laptops from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I've seen the black screen problem described, that seems to be an issue with the Synaptics driver and hopefully has been fixed with the current latest release of the synaptics driver from the synaptics site.  According to the discussion thread here anyway. But have you encountered any other issues?  Has Windows 10 been a positive upgrade for battery life?  Any tips on steps before upgrading, such as any driver incompatibility and setting up a back-up? My Yoga 12 is the variety with an i5 5300U and a "hybrid" 16GB SSD + 500GB HDD. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update. The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager. NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration. Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue. Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.

Hello All, here is a good one:  (Maby a MOD will give this to development to take a look at this, unless someone hasseen this before????....) I have Several Thinkpad Yogas (20CDCTO1WW), After installing Win10 1607 & Microsoft Office (tried 2010 - 2016)All experience the same problem. If you open MS Word (Or Excel) Click insert, then select object, select object type - Microsoft Equation 3.0 & selectok, you cannot select any symbols.  When Clicking any button, it is like the calibration is way off.If you click the title bar to move the equation symbols, the bar moves down and to the left. I have confirmed this is something to do with the Windows 10 1607 & the Yoga.  The previous version of Win 10 itworked properly.  I also tried this on various models of Desktops  & Win 10 1607 and it works properly. I have tried different drivers, versions of Word, BIOS,  external mouse, but it makes no difference,  It has something to do with Win 10 1607 (Build 14393.222) & Yoga or so it seems. Maybe some type of driver issue?, if anyone has any clues I would appreciate it.           Thanks in advance!

Im trying to do a Clean Install on my Thinkpad Yoga S1, everytime I get an error "windows cannot be installed to this disk" What do I need to do in order to fix this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Wont Install Windows 7

Is there more to the error message?  Perhaps "...the selected disk is of the gpt partition style"

If so, you're booted in legacy mode but trying to install to a GPT drive.

Re-start the installer, hit SHIFT+F10 to bring up a command window, then type DISKPART.  Once diskpart is running type "list disk" then "select disk xyz" where xyz is your HDD as displayed by list.  Then type "clean".  Then "exit" and close the command window.

That should un-initialize the drive and allow the installer to format it MBR style.

Alternatively you could boot in UEFI mode and install Win 7 on the GPT-formatted drive.

Z.

Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Plugged in not charging. Windows 8.1

Hi I have had the same problem - got my Thinkpad Yoga on the 2/1/14. Windows 8.1 OS. The initial power management option in 'Lenovo settings' when I installed the OS provided for an option to 'Automatically optimize for battery life? - which I have just read elsewhere was supposedly removed as it had issues with Windows 8.1 (I could not agreee more) and got it resolved myself through some trial and error and retesting to prove the bug was repeatable for my own peace of mind as to the cause of the error. The only reason I am telling you the above is because you might have got yourself where you are by doing what I did - and that reverting out is not as simple as turning off that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? back to 'Full power'. I assume the 'Lenovo settings' software is dynamically provided over the internet, because that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? power menu option has now (fortunately) gone missing in the past 36 hours. HOWEVER, as I am having numerous OS blue screen of death issues, I reloaded the OS from scratch off the recovery drive to try and stabilise the OS and experienced the exact same issue with the machine not recharging after the OS was reinstalled. My best guess is that they have progammed the same power management bug into the recovery disk. Here is how I got it charging again... 1. run a hdd diagnostic from the Lenovo Diagnostic screen. 1. Restart the laptop, press F12 on restart, this should get you into the Boot menu. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645916417/in/photostream/2. Then press TAB, this will get you into the App menu, and in that you choose Lenovo diagnostic, using the direction key. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645828938/in/photostream/3. Choose quick storage device test.https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14852323083/in/photostream/4. then choose the hdd and/or ssd for a quick surface scan to see if it is alright. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14829384881/in/photostream/5. then choose RUN TEST in the option lists. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645806150/6. If all your hdd tests pass the mustard, then you should get all PASSED for all the test parameters (provided you selected all the test parameters before you started the test). https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14830189744/

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Hello, I'm considering updating from Windows 8.1 to 10 on my 2014 Thinkpad Yoga S1.  I've tried once before, but was unable to get my pen to work after updating, so I restored to Windows 8.1.  Has anyone had this issue? Has anyone found a solution for it? Thanks

Hello I bought a Yoga X1 last year and it was working fine until about 3 weeks ago. For unknown reasons - possibly because of some Windows 10 update or because I installed a "nightly built" of the VLC video player the touchscreen stopped working. Windows 10 could not find a driver anymore (claiming that the driver it found is not suitable for this version of windows or womething like that). Same happened with the Lenovo driver for the device from the Lenovo website. I always hat the device marked yellow and "not working properly" in the device manager. I finally found in a forum aomeone pointing to a different driver for the Xoga X1's Wacom device and installed it. Now it shows up in the Device manager without Problems, but I still have no touch functionality. I deinstalled VLC alread and updated Win 10 again - still no luck. do I need some additional driver to connect the device that is recognized in the Device manager with Windows 10 somehow? Or activate it? I booted from a USB rescue stick for Win 10 and there the touch functionality was ok - so its not a hardware issue! Thank you.

I updated to Windows 10 last night on my brand new TPY 14 and afterwards the keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint don't work. In fact, as far as I can tell, only the function key works -- at least, turning on the keyboard backlight (fn-space) does. I've tried updating drivers but it says it's up to date. The Device Manager says the keyboard is working fine but it says that "Thinkpad UltraNav" cannot start (code 10), with this explanation: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API". Can anyone  give my any suggestions on this? It's pretty frustrating to have the keyboard die less than a day after buying the computer.

Did you update your BIOS before upgrading to Windows 10? There's an entry that vaguely says "Core update to supprot windows 10."http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...At this point, I'd recommend using the bootable ISO instead of flashing from within Windows:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...Which you should be able to put on a flash drive instead:http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_Upgrade#Booting_from_a_USB_Flash_drive

So I've had this Yoga 12 for about 3 moths now. In the past month, after I installed a new windows update, the touchpad and trackpoint would not work, like it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling-- did not work. I even reset the computer. STILL DID NOT WORK. So I ran the driver verifier which told me that the one of Lenovo products had problem with it--I don't remember which one-- so I uninstalled it. Still didn't work. After all that, I tried for the last time to uninstall the synaptics drive. When I uninstalled it... it was still there! I don't know how, but it was still there and now the touchpad and trackpoint both works. Well, sporadically. It will work for a few minutes, then won't work for a few minutes (or more). So.. that's where I am now (actually, right now, as I am writing this, only the trackpoint is working. oop nvm it stopped working). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Thanks! Also, when the touchpad & trackpoint works, the windows buttons are more condensed, while when it doesn't work, the buttons are more spread out (see below links). "condensed""spread out" p.s. also, does anybody's computer lag severely when you press the CapsLock button?? Which kind of disables the keyboard for a solid 7 seconds???

Answer:Touchpad problems with Thinkpad Yoga 12- windows 10

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

According to your full model number, I can recommend you first to check the Lenovo support site for your model and update the latest drivers.

But there had been also reports that some trackpads of the Thinkpad Yoga 12 had some issues ( ThinkPad Yoga 12 manufactured prior to October 2015. )
Here it is the link about it, please check it out.

Regards

Hello everybody, do you know where we can get the Windows product key when we buy a Lenovo laptop?I do not think that it is written on a sticker or paper document when people buy a LENOVO product.Lenovo laptops are provided (as many laptops) with a pre-install windows version, and no DVD is provided. No DVD, so no key...  I will buy the new Thinkpad Yoga 12" model, and i will have to reinstall windows 8.1 pro very frequently....I will have a lot of tests to do as an IT professional, and i need to reinstall Windows. This laptop is provided (as many laptops) with a pre-install windows version, and no DVD is provided. I saw that we can reinstall windows 8 by using the 'RESET YOUR PC' windows 8 feature, especially if we are not able to start windows. But at the end of the process, we have to enter the Windows product key.... even if is not mentioned in the lenovo user guide   (http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/yoga_12_ug_en.pdf) Below instructions from the LENOVO user guide (p106) : 1. Turn on or restart the computer. Before the Windows operating system starts, repeatedly press the F12 key. The Boot Menu window opens. 2. Select the recovery drive as the boot device. 3. Select a preferred language and then select a preferred keyboard layout. 4. Click Troubleshoot to display the optional recovery solutions. 5. Select a corresponding recovery solution according to your situation. For example, select Reset your PC if you want to reset your... Read more

Answer:Where to find the Windows product key - new Thinkpad Yoga

Hi,

You don't need to know the key.  It will be picked up during install automatically as long as you're installing the same version that shipped with the machine.  Either Lenovo or Microsoft media will work.

The key is not required during reset, nor is it required when installing from Microsoft media.

Do make your recovery media when you get your machine

Z.

I am having issues with bluetooth using windows 8.1. Windows can find and pair my device but only stays connected for a few seconds. The installed driver that came on the pc is: *Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS Adapter - version 3.1.1307.360* I have noticed that on the intel website the latest driver is: *BT_3.1.1311_e164.exe* although they recommend that I use the drivers provided by lenovo. Do lenovo have a fix for this issue or are you planning to release the new drivers? My system information is: Thinkpad S1 Yogawindows 8.1 pro 64bit (was pre installed)Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (with bluetooth) any help will be appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga bluetooth not functioning on windows 8.1

I'm having the same issues with my ThinkPad Yoga - I have installed the latest drivers from Lenovo, but my Bluetooth will drop after a few minutes and I have to either restart bluetooth or sometimes restart the laptop to get it connected again. Thoughts?

Has anyone else had issues with Thinkpad Yoga 15 orientation not working windows 10?I realize the lenovo support page states it should be in tablet mode in windows 10 and the device itself for the orientation tile to appear, but The windows 10 orientation tile is not even appearing.I know there is a rotation lock button on the side of the laptop, nothing seems to appear when pushing it.I can manually set the orientation through Intel control panel settings and through windows 10 display settings.I've tried in table mode, restarting the laptop in tablet mode, still doesn't work. The SensorService is running in services. Is there a way to verify the SDO sensor is being loaded by this service?I've installed both Chipset device software win 10 x64, and intel management engine win 10 x64 from the lenovo website.I feel I'm missing/havn't tried something, just havn't figured out what yet, any ideas? Thanks,anthany11

Hi Can you check the Windows "Device Manager" and see if by any chance is there a device that is not recognize or does not has the correct drivers? I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and there is a driver that detects if it on laptop or slate mode. When it came to driver I always try:1)"System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. 2) The Intel Driver Update Utility,. to update Intel drivers. AMD has his own tool. (Under your own risk) 3) If you have experience installing drivers on Windows. I found it very usefull to use DriverEasy. It offers good enought (freeware) driver recognition of the things installed on your machine. But please notice that installing the wrong driver may screw things up. (Under your own risk) Remember that Intel Driver Update Utility and DriverEasy are not supported by Lenovo, this is only a suggestion to try to get the latest driver for your machine. Regards
