Preferred Solution: Why lenovo e460 blowing COLD air?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all, I bought a Lenovo G505 (AMD A6-5200 model) yesterday which had been a display model for the past 3 months. Mostly it is working fine but I noticed the fan seemed to be running quite a bit even when doing nothing on the PC, what's more the air coming out of the laptop is cold. I installed coretemp to monitor temperatures and it is showing idle CPU temps of around 50C, which seems too high to me and suggests the CPU heatsink is not correctly seated. I have checked task manager to ensure that no processes are running the CPU up too much, and removed any that were, but the problem still remains. Can anyone tell me what the idle temps of an A6-5200 should be, so that I can compare to what I am seeing? I'm skilled enough with PC's and laptops to take it apart and try to re-seat the heatsink with some good thermal paste, however there is a Lenovo sticker over the screws so I guess that would invalidate the warranty if I did it? Thanks

Answer:G505 high idle temps and fan blowing cold air

Just to add - I ran the dust removal program for a good while just in case.

Answer:Regarding Lenovo ThinkPad E460 IWS

Hi ben-wu511 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This article would be a good reference for you:
Checking for International Warranty Service (IWS)

It is a good thing that you are checking possible warranty coverage outside point of purchase .
Basically , IWS at times would not be able to apply on a specific region specially if they do not market it there and this only meant that repair parts would likewise be "not available" and that repairs are redirected to the location of point of purchase.

As an example. for the Edge Series laptops (ThinkPad) E460 (ThinkPad) , I used 20ET for the machine type on the IWS think look up page . It gave me Lenovo Canada 1-800-426-7378 and depending on the region in Canada , either showing Onsite service or "best effort" . As a suggestion best to give Lenovo a call to verify if they would be able to support in warranty repair for the specific model and Machine type .

Hope this helped answer your query.

Regards

Fan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). Currently, I have it in balanced mode and set the maximum core usage to 40% and it's still going strong. Any suggestions?  Gaming IssueAlso on a side note, if anyone can assist me with a gaming issue I'm having. My computer has a 960 GTX, i74720GQ @ 2.6GHz, and 500 GB SSD (samsung evo--upgraded from 1TB HD) and I'm having issues with my FPS in-game. It locks at 30 or FPS across all games. I do have two GPU's (integrated and 960 GTX) and have always used the GTX as the primary source, uncapped in-game graphics, limited background interference (services, programs, etc.) and possibly other things I can't think of but cannot release the in-game FPS cap. Even when settings are at the lowest settings. In previous times, if I were to uncap, it'd reach above 60 easily consistently but now when it's uncapped, it never goes above 60. One might ask what changed? After upgrading from HDD to SSD, I had to reset my ... Read more

Hi everyone, I have an issue with the display connectivity on my Lenovo E460: When I connect my Lenovo via HDMI with an external screen it works perfectly well. This means that I have an output on my integrated display, as well as on my external screen. But when I disconnect the HDMI screen, the integrated display turns black. But while it's black it's also flickering. That means that now and then I can see the desktop for a few milliseconds, and then it turns black again. The flickering happens primary when I move the mouse. The remaining time it's just a black screen. I also had the behaviour when Windows 7 was installed. But the problem solved itself after a while when Windows 7 suggested a Desktop Window Manager update in the Windows Update section. But now I upgraded to Windows 10 and the problem returned. I installed all driver I could find on the Lenovo homepage. I also made sure it's the latest version. When this didn't help I installed the official drivers on the Intel homepage. I did the same for the AMD drivers, because there is also an AMD graphic card on board. In addition I experimented a little bit with AMD beta drivers, but the effect remained the same. Technical specifications:- Intel Core i7-6500U (Intel HD 520)- AMD R7 M360- Windows 10 Pro N (1703) with Media Feature Pack installed I would be grateful for any tips and solution you can offer! Best regardshgt432

Hello Hgt432Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal

I have a 14 month old Thinkpad E460 i7 with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD running Windows 10. Lately I've noticed that on starting up the laptop either from off or from hibernation, the Disk Usage is running at 100% for some time often 10-15 minutes before settling down. This is often with minimal transfer rates as shown below. The disk has been defragmented. This leads to a very sluggish laptop when it is at 100%. Trying to watch netflix is almost impossible for 10-15 minutes as the computer just can't seem to buffer the data on the hard disk.  I've checked with a 2 year HP laptop and even on startup disk usage is only around 50%. Anyone having similar problems.  Is this likely to be a hardware or software issue. I've tried updating the firmware to the HDD from the Lenovo website. I've had so many issues with this laptop I don't think I'll ever buy Lenovo again. 100% Disk Usage

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E460 High Disk Usage 100%

The quickest way to find out I would think would be to click on the Process Tab in Task Manager and then click on the Disk column's header to sort it to show the processes with the highest disk access at the top.     Knowing what process, or processes are causing the high disk usage, may help you identify the culprit. If you are concerned about the hard disk, you can Right Click on Start, select Command Prompt Admin, and then in the window type:   chkdsk c:  and press Enter to scan the HD for errors.   I will not fix the errors, but if it finds any it will prompt you to run it again in fix mode:  chkdsk c: /f   and schedule it to run on the next boot. Good Luck,

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen. And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

Answer:ThinkPad E460 - TouchPad Will not work untill lenovo keyboard is pressed and arrow left is in a loop

I have not had the POST freeze problem, although I did have a bug with Yubikey, I had to push the Yubikey button twice to input the second part of my long VeraCrypt password, this was solved with a BIOS update.. Also my right speaker sounds broken on higher volumes, and OSD brightness bar is stuck on screen after waking up from S3 suspend, but goes away if I adjust the brightness with the keys on the keyboard. I do also have the TouchPad lockup problem! I have noticed the same, random lockups of the TouchPad. The TrackPoint works but the TouchPad locks up. It is restored by pushing a keyboard key or the TrackPoint mouse keys, or just leaving the TouchPad alone for a while (5-10 seconds). I got this machine with Windows 10 pre-installed but decided to go back to Windows 7 since Windows 10 has been nothing but a big PITA. I didn't notice this problem on Windows 10, but I have plenty of other Windows 10 specific problems. After installing all the latest drivers available for E460 (latest available from the site at the time, September 2016) this problem popped up. Current driver: 8.216.1616.135 I just checked System Update and noticed an update for the ALPS ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, so I'll update and check back (if I remember). New driver: 8.216.1616.151[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue related to TouchPad Cursor no response in a short time after resume from S3 by lid close Maybe this have or will fix your TouchPad problem too.

Hi Wacky78900,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

If the issue persists even after performing the Flee-Power and as the computer is in warranty, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Hi. I have a strange problem, my Lenovo T500 with intel and Ati graphis card can boot only when it's cold. When it boot I can normaly use my laptop ( office, internet browser, even play games skyrim, minecraft, gta 4), but when i restart computer only two LED's are on ( standard power LED and conected to PSU). I tried to switch to intel graphis but this problem still became. Please help

Answer:Lenovo T500 only cold boot

Hi, Serwatka

What OS are you running? To better determine what is causing this issue, do you have a bootable CD or another hard drive that you can try to boot from? If so, then I would try changing the boot order to boot from something other then the normal hard drive first. Boot as normal into Windows, then restart the machine and see if you can boot in the other method. This could show what exactly is causing the error, or at least give a good indication of what could be causing the issue.

If the above method is not possible, or if it does not work, then I would run some hard drive diagnostics such as ChkDsk to check the health of your drive.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hello! I got a problem with my Ideapad Y510 the CPU fan is always running, even when the system is really cold. Can anybody help me? Or should I call the service center ?...  Thank you !!!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y510 fan is always running; even, when the system is cold

Does the fan bother you in any which way or form. It cant be a bad thing, you would much rather the fan be on all the time than not come on at all , overheating the cpu.So I my self see no need to get in touch with the service centre.     Good luck!    Drinking my diet Pepsi,                                                            dietpepsiaddict

Just received, an am setting up an N22 WinBook. Some reviewers noted issues with the SD card occcasionally dismounting, and it looks like I've been bitten by this at the worst time. From what I read here this is a generic issue with the Yoga tablets and the S100. To expand the built-in storage I have put a lot of portable apps on an SD card that I had intended to permanently mount. If I insert the card while the system is running, everything is fine; I have copied oddles of gigabytes of stuff back and forth without a hiccup. The problem is when the N22 boots with the SD card already inserted. After leaving the Windows 10 user login page, the screen goes black with only a mouse cursor visible, and stays that way indefinitely. If I force a reboot once or twice, the system eventually boots normally and the SD card is there as expected. On such an occasion I can check the system event log corresponding to the black-screen hang. There are endless entries in which the system is waiting to access Sector 0 of the SD card and it isn't there. Woops. So, I guess, the problem is "N22 dismounts inserted SD card during boot". I'm using a PNY Class 10, 32 GB micro SD card. Suggestions? Incompatible SD card? Driver issue? BIOS issue? Hardware (card reader) issue that can't be solved?

Of course you have to change the boot order in the bios to boot usb first.

I had absolutely no issues with laptop.  It was working fine, till in the month of Feb 2015, the touch screen of the laptop got damaged accidently.  I have followed up with at least a dozen Lenovo authorized service centers and all of them have put me down with saying we are not able to resolve the issue.  It?s now six months since I have been using the laptop with the cracked touch screen. I had directly interacted with Lenovo, but all in vain. It is saddening to experience that in spite of buying a high end laptop, the service and support provided by Lenovo is far below acceptable. Henceforth, I won?t be recommending any Dell products to anyone. Very Very Very cold response?????..

Question: PSU keeps blowing

i have just moved house and now my pc refuses to turn on. it used to do this before but if u kept pressing the on button it would power up...not anymore tho. so i bought a new psu, fitted it no probs and it powered up fine. when i came back a bit later, it had turned off and when i turneds it on again, the psu popped and some sparks flew out the back...which is, i assume, not a good thing...so i took it back and had it replaced, the guy told me that next time he would not replace it and to check everything was ok in the computer...he told me to reseat the mobo, which i have done, chech all the conections, which i have done, and check therewasnt anything loose which might be shorting the connections, which i have also done. i reconnected it all and it works fine for about an hour before conking out again....i dont have the time or the money to fork out to have someone look at it, anyone any ideas what the problem could be?its a 350w psu and im only running a xp2000+ with 2hdd and 2dvd drives...and a old geforece 4 Ti4400....and the old one which ran for a year and a half no probs was only a 350w as well...

I'm not too knowlegeable with hardware. The fan on my Dell Dimension 8100 is blowing out hot air from the back. Is that a good or bad thing? If it's bad, what can I do to remedy that?

Answer:Fan blowing hot air

good, as it is removing the hot air from INSIDE the case, keeping the interior cooler.

On the side of my computer I have two fans; one 70mm blowing in which is over the CPU and another 90mm blowing in at the bottom of the case.

My cpu is currently showing 96 degrees C which seems a lot to me it is a AMD Phenom X4 9950 Black edition.

Is this correct or should one of them be sucking air out?

The power supply also has it's own fan as does the Graphics card.

Answer:Fan blowing which way

Further to my question above; which if possible I would love someone to answer fairly quickly to put my mind at rest, am I assuming correctly that the high temperature of the cpu is why it is only running at 1306Mhz which is half it's rated 2612Mhz.

I have just checked and the temperature is now 83 degrees C and it is running at full speed.

How cold do you think a CPU temp can get.

Just with a Dual Core AMD Athlon II X2 I was able to push the temp down to 66 F.

I am trying to make computer even cooler.

This is Over Clocked to 3.68Ghz.Pretty high for a Dual Core.I can not push it past 4Ghz Tried.

Normal Temp right now is 66 F Barely Hits 85 F while gaming.

What is your lowest temp.

This is not a water cooled system it is being cooled bye fans.

Water Cooling is kinda risky if you ask me.I do not like the Idea of mixing Liquid and electricity together. Some say it is better.Might as well as use a AC lol and hook it up to the side of computer.

Answer:How Cold is Too Cold for CPUs

Yeah, some folks with lots of money to waste have submerged entire PCs (less hard drives) in liquid nitrogen.

When are you going to start using Celsius?Click to expand...

Yeah I agree. While Fahrenheit is commonly used when talking creature (as in humans) comfort, the scientific and technical worlds use Celsius. And when communicating about different technologies, it is always best to use the proper terminologies to ensure understanding.

Having said that,

was able to push the temp down to 66 F.Click to expand...

Are you sure? I ask because the Laws of Physics do not allow a fan blowing room temperature air onto a chunk of matter to cool that matter cooler than the air temperatures. The "wind chill effect" only affects living tissue - not chunks of silicone, aluminum, copper and plastic.

So for you to have a CPU at 66F, the ambient (room) temperature the computer is sitting in must be 66F or cooler. Is it? I doubt it - not in Pennsylvania in July.

So, either you meant 66C (which is a bit high, IMO) or your monitoring program is not translating the temperature data from the sensor correctly - a common problem. What monitoring program are you using? I like CoreTemp.

I like my temps to be around 50C but don't start to be concerned until they linger above 60C when under a load - usually a sign I need to clean the air filters.

I have an HP DV9000 which had vertical trace lines running through the display. I installed a new LCD cable which worked fine for about 2 or 3 weeks, then the screen went dark, with a faint image in the background. I checked the output voltage on the inverter, and there was nothing there. I installed a new inverter card, and everything worked fine for about 3 minutes, then the inverter died again (Same faint image, but no output voltage to the backlight). Any ideas as to what could be killing my inverter card? I don't want to get another inverter until I know what's causing the fault. My first inclination is to look at the LCD cable, but it worked fine for almost a month, so why all of a sudden would a brand new cable start frying inverters? Any ideas? Both the inverter and the LCD cable installed were brand new.

Answer:Inverter keeps blowing

Question: Y500 keeps blowing

Hello people,I have a Y500. I bought the laptop about 2 years ago. The problem is now: It just keeps on blowing, I refreshed my windows (kept old files though) but it still blows all the time. I have also tried to get rid of some dust, so I screwdrived and deleted some but there wasn't that much.I downloaded speedfan and the temperatures seem to be okay, for example: now just browsing the web and typing this: Core 0: 42 and Core 1: 40. It is the i5 fan which is blowing all the time, not the videocard one.The laptop is working fine it's just the noise that makes me crazy I really appreciate any tips/ideas.Thanks

Question: Blowing my mind!

Hey guys, im a noob here. Having a wireless crisis atm. I can only connect to ONE wireless network out of about 20 available. Not one at a time, just one period. I could connect to all the others just fine up until a couple days ago, after the latest windows update. I can pick up the other networks and their signal strength, but as soon as i try to connect, it says unable. Whenever i go back to my original connection it works fine. I have an alienware m11x, all my drivers are up to date and appear to be working normally. Im an air traffic controller in iraq, and i transport my laptop from the tower back to my conex box where i sleep, so the range of networks i see changes every 100 yards or so. Up until now, i could connect to any of them. Thanks if you can help. I also unistalled all my wireless devices and reinstalled them with the proper drivers, still having the same issue. Norton hasnt found viruses or anything malicious, and ive defragged the registry. The computer is also in somekind of power management mode where it runs on auxilary power only (not battery) because i have it plugged on 220, but this has been going on since way before this wireless bs. Yeah i know, shame on me, i should get a transformer. I also changed my network adapter properties to work on max performance regardless of power configuration. Oh! I also had a dream that i was hitting my computer in the dark trying to make a song stop, and now im not so sure it was a dream... I cant connect via wired c... Read more

I'm still having a complete computer nightmare. Started when my PSU in my (1 year old) PC powered up then instantly shut off and wouldn't work again. I replaced the PSU and for 2 weeks it worked fine. Then I started getting the windows 7 loading circle on nearly every task I did, then it would sometimes just freeze or reboot, to the point of then getting stuck on the ASUS Express Gate screen and the windows loading screen. I thought it might be a virus so formated the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7, again ok for a week then it did it again. I yesterday had to reinstall again, this time on a different hard drive, its working again for now.My question is could this be because of the PSU blowing that it damaged somehow my SDD drive or does it sound more likely to be a very clever virus that is somehow stored in the memory or my router and keeps reinfecting my machine.

Answer:Could a PSU blowing cause SDD drive to do this

It sounds very much like a hardware fault and apart from the few details you have posted.Changed PSU from what to what? Its an Asus mobo, which model?SSD make-model-size?Ram make-type-size?You might as well add your GPU. Just to get a full picture. You have now install Windows 7 on another drive, what type-size-has the problem occurred again?Any error messages?Do you get BSOD's if so what error codes?

Question: Blowing Up Pics

Are there any specific programs out there that you can blow pics up bigger without getting it really blurry?

Answer:Blowing Up Pics

biw
None that I'm aware of! I have used most of the major graphics programs and some minors to the same result.
In order to prevent blurriness you must start with a high resolution picture.
For instance when I work on wedding pictures such as the wedding party (keep in mind wedding photos are usually well defined and clear) I scan at 600dpi 8x10 and the photo will hold its quality up to 18x23. The size of file created from this scan is 80mb and sometimes greater.
If your using other forms of equipment such as digital cameras as a source you are bound to the cameras ability in regards to resolution.
Note: Even in standard photography the processing lab is bound to the same rules.
The density of the pixels in digital equates to the density of grains on a standard photograph. The more pixels per sq inch the better the resolution and the better clarity on expansion.

my computer keeps blowing the fuse in the plug that goes into the wall, my friend suggested replacing the power supply which I went and did this afternoon but after 10 minutes on the comp it blew again, so I tried using a different power cable plugged into a different socket, but it keeps happening. I have no idea what's causing it, and I'm running out of electrical appliances to steal fuses from, any help would be appreciated, I'm getting very frustrated

Oh I should add that 98% of the time when the fuse blows it's when I'm playing a computer game, not searching the web, or typing etc...

thanks.

Answer:Something keeps blowing the fuse....

the houses power supply is being overloaded by the sounds of it. i think those fuses are rated for something like 10 Amperes per circuit. that really does not take an awful lot to blow, do you have a lot of other electrical appliances plugged in in your house? if you feel like risking another fuse unplug as many high drain things as you can and try again. the biggest problem would be if you are using a powerboard connected to the socket to power your pc and other things.

Chances are that the computer has been in a damp area (or has something spilt on the keyboard--Try disconnecting thew keyboard and re-booting) or has developed a loose connection internally. Strongly suggest taking it to a qualified computer engineer to have it checked out.

for some reason my daughters pc now 2 years old keeps blowing the power supply. original was a 250Watt so tried a 350Watt and that went straight away.Ok, guess a short or something but where would I start looking.there is a what I think called a host powered Scanner which takes the power from the USB Port, onboard VGA, Intel Celeron, CNR or AMR small modem thing, combi DVD/CDR & XPOnly thing I have to try is pulling the modem but anything else I could try when I visit again later Tuesday night.Looking back on problems here shows Power supplies to be very complicated and voltages and wattages then makes etc complicate things more.was going to scrap and buy her a new one but if its something that could be fixed would be good.

Answer:PSU keeps blowing - not wanting to try a 3rd PSU

would suggest taking all connections off pc and see if it will run, if still a prob must be on the main board (exactly what damage occurs to psu to make it unusable?)johnny.

I recently had a virus that was taken care of here.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic378803.html

It seems like explorer.exe gets bigger and bigger in size gradually as does dwm.exe and won't go back down until I restart the processes. I'm not doing a lot of heavy duty stuff here that's causing this either.

My explorer.exe routinely gets up to 30,000k plus and it was up over 100,000k before I posted her about the virus. Since taking care of the virus it seems to have been fixed for the most part but it still eats up a lot of memory gradually.

Currently the dwm.exe process is at 16,000k and explorer.exe is at 7,000k, but I just restarted explorer.exe for probably the 15th time today.

Is there anyway that I can fix this?

Oh, and another thing I have noticed recently is a clicking sound randomly when I'm not doing anything in particular on my laptop. It's the sound that's used in IE when you click on a link or whatever.

I keep blowing out power supplies. It happens usually with a loud snap or a fizzle and a snap. I can see a flash come from the power supply through my case window. It can happen once a week or twice in a day, hot day, cold day, within a minute of turning on or within twelve hours. I could be touching the keyboard or leaving the computer unused for hours. What I'm getting at, is it seems random. It's happened about twenty times. Expensive high output power supplies have to be replaced. Cheap 300 watt supplies might survive one or two events before replacement.

I've disconnected each of the two mirrored hard drives alternately and it still blows. I've disconnected the Fan speed contoller and the HP DVD RW. I've changed all of the seven fans.

The mirrored raid set flashes "incomplete" whenever I boot up. I've reset it once, but it came up incomplete within a few starts.

So, I think it's the Motherboard blowing out the power supplies....?

I have a Soyo Dragon 2 Motherboard
P4 2.4Ghz 800M 478P/512K HT RT and I haven't clocked it up.
Ti4200-VTD8X video card
two 80G Maxtor SATA HDrives in a Mirrored set.
DDR 2X256MB Ram
Sony Floppy

It's the first computer I've ever put together.
I may be slow, but I'm not dumb.
HHHeeeellllllp !!!?

Answer:blowing out power supplies

Well, you have two possibilities. Either you have a problem with the mobo, or a problem in the power outlet, surge strip, or the line itself. Since you seem to have at least a few dead PSUs, you might take one to a technician and have him look at it and tell you what is blown, this could help you figure out whether it was blown by the line coming into the primary, or if it was an overload caused by a fault in the mobo.
Just from the description alone, I'd say it was power spikes or an intermittent dead short on the motherboard. Look to make sure nothing is in the case that could be periodically making contact on the mobo that might cause a short, also look to make sure nothing is wedged between the case and mobo.

Could this be caused if an incompatible networking cable was once plugged in---and unplugged within 30 minutes?

This freekin thing has been demanding attention ever since I started this computer the first time.
It's a recomended update notice.
I ignored it because it was labeled as a driver for a blackberry handheld
-(this machine is a compaq desktop)
The update notice appeared again last nite......against my better judgement, I went ahead with it.
My compaq sputtered and coughed and spit out an error message:
"update could not install"
It was then that my internet went away.
I went down the list of causes and sure enough ...it was related to that "recomended update"

I did a system restore........but I'm still being nagged about that freekin recomended driver update

Does anyone have a solution to why my motherboard is blowing power supplies? I read one post that had an answer that motherboards don't usually blow power supplies. WELL mine has blown TWO. I have a power supply tester and the second one I know was good just before plugging into the motherboard, now it energizes for about 2 seconds. If I turn the power supply off using the I/O switch on it I can get it to energize again. I have lighted fans, they light for about two seconds then go out, everything DEAD. I can repeat this process as many times as I wish with the same result. This problem just all of a sudden started. ANY HELP?

Answer:Blowing Power Supplies

Buy a good name brand PSU, not a generic one.

If it actually is your mobo frying psu's no matter how high quailty they are, you should probably get a new mobo

I'm not sure if this question goes in this forum so if it doesn't please move it to the appropriate forum.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6629us and where I live it gets pretty hot in the summer so the laptop heats up really easy. I am thinking about getting a cool pad but I am debating if I should get one that blows air under the computer or one that sucks air out trough one of the air exits. A few days ago I openned my laptop and blew compressed air on the fan and the air exits and it works a lot better now but it still heats up a lot. Anybody have any suggestions?

Cool pad that blows:

Cool pad that sucks air:

Answer:Cool pad BLOWING or SUCKING?

I believe you'll have more success with that exhaust fan device because it's drawing hot air out of that laptop.

Make sure you're not exposing that laptop to direct sunlight and that it's set on a hard flat surface with space between the surface and the bottom of the case.

I was called to troubleshoot a network problem. It is a simple two computer network, each with a nic and a crossover cable. The problem is, the nic card on one computer keeps frying and I cant see any problem. The computer that is messing up has had a new motherboard installed and it still does the same. They tried a new cable with a new nic and it blew it out. Is it possible that the other computer is sending something back that is blowing the card out? I guess I don't think so as the place with the problem installed a new card and it never even showed the network as working. When I installed a new card, the network was working until I changed a setting on the email settings and restarted the computer. When I restarted, the network was gone. I have no idea what is causing this and I haven't been able to get a tech from Gateway. I have tried and have not gotten a return call as of yet. If anyone has any ideas I can check out, Let me know.

Thanks a bunch

I have a fairly old computer, 5 yrs+, 450mhz processor etc etc. Over the past few days the fuse in the plug seems to blow every 24hrs. I'm no computer expert but that isn't right and I know something is up, any idea what could be causing it? Or is it that the computer is just too old and has finally decided to pack it in?Cheers

Answer:Computer fuse keeps blowing

I would guess that there is something drastically wrong with your power supply unit. I suggest you DO NOT continue to use it in this state. Get it looked at without delay. You might consider getting something a bit mode up-to-date;-))Brian

Hi,

After leaving my pc on the other night i woke the next morning to find it had shut down and wouldnt power back on again. After some trial and error i detirmined it was the power supply had gone. I thought nothing of it as im sure i have had the 10k stated hours out of it already.

So of i went to the pc shop and grabbed another PSU, all plugged back in and working again, until the next day this one also blew!

Since then i have tried 2 other PSU's whch have both blown instantly....no smoke, no flames no smell. Just stopped working. Tested on another pc and can confirm PSU's are dead!

I figure something is shorting them out, so i dragged my mobo and other bits outa the case, checked each peice and found all were working fine out of the case. Could it be something to do with my case shoring them out an making them blow?

I dont want to get another PSU and stick stuff back in my case until i have found the root of the problem.

Any advise would be appreciated.

TIA

Dan

Answer:power supplys blowing...

Are you using any type of power strip, ups or protection? Have you tried another outlet. Is the outlet your currently using damaged or outdated in design?

You say it turns on and works outside the case? Are you using standoffs? Is there any odd metal contact between the motherboard and case?

A friend of mine says that his parents PC blows a fuse virtually everytime that it is switched on. It's a basic PC with no added peripherals etc. They have a 13 Amp fuse fitted (don't know why), but it still blows. Is it a cable problem, power supply or something else? Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Answer:PC Blowing Fuse Everytime - Help Please

There is something very wrong if a 13 amp fuse is blowing on a PC power lead. A PC should only need a 3 amp fuse - a 5 amp at tops to allow for any surge and aging. A 13 amp fuse blowing indicates that power in excess of a two bar electric fire is being drawn.I would suggest that the cable be checked/replaced and if the problem persists the PSU be considered suspect.

For a week now, I have been working on a dell Inspiron 9200 that is running XP. 12 years old. It hadnt been used in like 6 months.

Everything was fine until today. The battery is dead, and when I turned it on this morning, I forgot to plug the power cord into the wall. It booted up fine, then I noticed the battery icon indicating low battery, and before I realized it, the computer shut off. This usually happens when the power cord is not connected. So now when I run the computer, the fan is going crazy and it's really working hard. It doesn't seem to stop, and I have let it run for like 6 minutes. I wasn't sure if I was hurting the computer so I shut it off. Any thoughts as to what is happening? The computer is not hot at all.

Answer:[SOLVED] Fan blowing so hard

Hi,

If it hasn't been used for six months, its very likely installing MS updates and its actually the hard drive spinning faster than usual because of the extra work load.

Do you see any evidence that this is the case?

I found the side button blue, so I knew it was on. I held it for at least three seconds to turn it off. I turned it back on and it was blowing the regular speed of the air, until it stopped, it the air blowed harder than usual. This computer HP TouchSmart. It only has a monitors. On the top of the monitor, it has the air holes where the air comes from.
After trying to restart it many times, nothing would work.

Hi I run a small company, I bought 3 identical PCs from the internet, all in bits and assembled them myself. I have been assembling PCs myself for about 7 years so I would like to think I knew what I was doing.

Intel Core2 Quad 2.66
Corsair 2048MB 1600Mhz RAM (x2)
XFX nVidia 790i Ultra mobo
XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+ g-card (x2 SLI)

CoolerMaster Chassis
LG BlueRay, HDDVD, DVD, CD, lightscribe Optical drive (don't buy them they're crap!)
WesterDigital 500G sata2 HardDrive (can't remember the spindal speed, doesn't really matter)

One day one of them froze up while scanning something in, they don't really crash and certainly have never locked up like this one did. I thought nothing of it and rebooted the system. The mobo wouldn't post, stuck on FF. Read a few forums on these mobos doing it, can be faulty ram, fried CPU, short on the board or PSU fault. Easy problem to diagnose, stuck the Ram and CPU in another one, booted fine so I put them back. I ripped the g-cards out the faulty machine and powered it with another known working PSU (these mobos will still post with no g-card, I tried it on mine) still wouldn't post. I pulled the mobo out and stuck it on an antistatic bag in case the chassis was shorting it although nothing was protruding and all the stand-offs were in tact and in the right place, still not posting. Got to be the mobo right? WRONG!

I RMAed the XFX mobo, they are now discontinued so I got... Read more

I've been battling this one for the better part of a day. It started with the machine not being able to connect ot oovoo due to Macaffee being expired (least that's how it originally looked). Removal of the expired Macaffee made oovoo usable again. To ensure there was antivirus software on the machine I loaded AVG. That's when the fun and games began. AVG detected consrv.dll as a trojan and removed it. After that I rebooted the machine and the machine boot loops. If I run a system repair, it brings the machine back to a state prior to the load of AVG and it boots into Windows 7. After that, you have to reload the antivirus software again, and when it runs its scan, it finds the consrv.dll again, removes it, reboot, boot loop.

The company I work for owns property all around the country. We have installed T1s at these locations and have many managed switches as well.

Ocasionally we have ports that "blow" on the switch. What I mean by blow is they no longer pass traffic and they no longer appear to be up and running.

The people at the locations think it has to do with lightning storms but it's not all of the ports on the switch...just random ports.

Some of us at the main office are thinking it's heat related but we're just shooting in the dark.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Question: E460 USB Treiber

hello everyone, I got a problem with my USB3.0 port.I don't really know what the problem is, but I can try to describe it: I bought my E460 (20ETCTO1WW) Thinkpad last october. I had a preinstalled version of Win10. Whenever I tried to transfer large amounts of data to my external HDD via USB3.0 the connection was lost after some time. I was able to fix that problem by simply putting a USB2.0 hub between my laptops USB3.0 and the external HDD.After some months i "had to" install Windows 7. The USB3.0 worked properly. For whatever reason (long story ) I had to work on Windows 10 again. Now it is no problem to transfer big data to a external HDD via USB3.0.BUT: I use Acronis to make my backups. I was not able to make a validated backup since i reinstalled Win10 a few weeks ago. I tried everything, but it didn't work. I remembered the USB2.0 hub story and simply tried to make a backup again, with the USB2.0 hub - it worked. Long terms short: it's obvious that I have a USB driver problem. Any ideas how to fix that issue? Thanks in advance!

I'm using Fox one utility for my foxconn mobo, right now in augusta ga it is 18 degrees.
I tried to tell fox one to turn down or shut off the fan to prevent the computer from really freezing up due to cold weather outside and my room which is trying to get warm, but cannot do so right now.

So far my pc has slowed down because of the tempature changing.
I went into the BIOS to find the fan settings and shut it off but the **** thing keeps coming back on at full blast and is keeping my legs and my cockerspaniel cold and angry.
If somebody knows how I could fix the fan problem please let me knowm something.

Answer:system fan is constantly blowing cannot turn it down....

you can try speedfan. I would assume you are quoting the temperature in Fahrenheit? Never really heard of a computer slowing down when it was cold but I have seen people put their computer outside when benching (around -5C).

Hi everyone. I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to hardware, but I figured a Phenom II hex-core would make my computer-experience a lot faster than what I got with my dual-core.

So I got a new motherboard, a new processor, an additional HDD and two sticks of DDR3 memory.

My problem is the computer has been really slow lately - slower than ever before in some respects - and I have observed (and done) a few things that might be the cause of it.

First off, I installed XP and got all the updates, service packs and whatnot. I also got the drivers off the CD that came with the motherboard. One Program that I use is TurboV EVO. When I first installed it, and maybe before I got SP3, the Turbo Unlocker Monitor (small pop-up over the taskbar) showed full bars (16.0) for each processor (when I press the Turbo Unlocker button that is). I couldn't tell if it made my computer any "faster", but I was at least sure it wasn't any slower than when I used the dual-core.

I guess I installed a bunch of software, downloaded some music and whatnot and got some microsoft updates, when all of a sudden the bars on the turbo unlocker monitor were all on 4.0. Sometimes when the computer was performing a task, like opening chrome or even just explorer, one of the bars would go up to 14.0 and linger there for a second or two.

Another thing I have observed is that the task manager shows CPU usage is almost always under 5%, and Commit Charge lower than a 1000M / 5209M. I hav... Read more

Someone needs to seriously take Microsoft to task on this update.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943302

The second application listed for compatibility enhancement is WinAntivirus Pro 2007.

Microsoft has released a compatibility enhancement for one of the worst rogue apps in existence. I have lost count of how many machines I've had to clean the virtumundo trojan from on account of this malware app.

Answer:Mind Blowing WIndows Update!!

Its a compatibility enhancement for many apps. Also, knowing that Microsoft hires an outside company for their tech writing (which does a piss poor job of reviewing), it doesn't surprise me that something like that made it in there (the article). Also, being that MS constantly updates their articles, I'm sure it will be edited out at some point. Sooner than later, hopefully.

At any rate, the update isn't a problem, its whats in the article. Its important that you make an important distinction between the two.

Hi all, Hope you all can help with this. When the workstation (HP Z420) boots up it gives an error message 511: CPU FAN not detected. The fan is turning at full speed and seems to work ok.  CPU temperatures are around 40 degrees when idle, so it seems the fan is doing its job. It is, however, a bit annoying that it is blasting at full speed the whole time so i wanted to fix it. Unfortunately i found out now that the warranty has expired last October (2016), even though the problem is already ocurring for more than a year. I have tried to update the bios to the latest version, reset the bios using the cmos reset button on the motherboard and i have reseated the cpu fan and the cpu fan cable. All to no avail. Are there any other options i can look at? Thank you in advance for your help. Kind regards,Rens

Hi I am not very good with the technical side of Laptops so just wanted to ask a question here.I have a HP Pavilion g6 laptop (Intel Core i3 processer, 4 GB RAM) that I bought in mid December 2011 but have only just started to use. I set it up properly today, created my recovery discs and installed Norton anti virus.I noticed that I can hear air/a fan blowing constantly while using the laptop. There is a vent on the left side of the laptop and if I put my hand in front of it I can feel coolish air blowing out. But the laptop feels warm-hot in a couple of areas, particularly to the left of the touch pad (bottom left of keyboard) and underneath I can feel the heat around about the center of the laptop. So my question is, well two questions actually... should I be hearing a fan or air blowing constantly while the laptop is in use? It's just when I use my mothers Dell laptop I do not hear any air or fan blowing while in use. Also is it normal for the above two areas to be hot even though all I am doing is browsing the internet? Currently I have Internet Explorer open, Windows Live Messenger and that's it. I don't even have any files, photos or videos saved on the laptop yet as it is brand new. I previously owned a HP laptop about 3 years ago and it ended up shutting down by itself because it would get so hot. I am worried the same thing will happen and that I should have avoided HP because it's a common thing to happen with their laptops?

Answer:HP Pavilion g6 hot and blowing air from the side vent

I unplugged the laptop from the mains about 10 minutes ago and it's been running off the battery since then. Since running off the battery it seems the area to the left of the touch pad has cooled slightly and is now just warm. The area on the underneath (center) has also cooled slightly, but the fan/blowing noise from left side vent is still going. If only I had used it properly when I first bought it from the shop in December, I would have probably taken it back and got something different. Now having owned it for 4 months I would only be entitled to a repair if it's faulty.

Hello there,

This is the first time I have posted.
My PC power supply keeps blowing the fuse. it tends only to be when I am doing something that uses alot of memory, especially when trying to convert .avi files into .mpgs
The PS is 450w and I have an athlon 2400 processor and 192MB RAM
Do you think the power supply is inadequate as I have upgraded it recently and it doesn't blow the fuse as often now but it still does it when using alot of memory. I have tried it in different sockets and have the same probs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mitchy

My PC has been working fine for a couple of years then all of a sudden yesterday the PSU failed. The fuse at the wall had blown so I replaced it and then plugged the 3pin kettle lead back into my PSU. Turned on the PSU and "Bang" a spark flew out the back of the PSU and so did a waft of smoke. Now its dead. I bought a new PSU and rewired the internals of the PC and double checked all wiring. Plugged it in switched on the PSU. Turned on the power button of the PC and "bang". The PSU emited a pop and smoke and again its dead. Could this be a motherboard problem. ? Please help. I'm about to order an new PSU but I fear it is doomed unless I change my strategy !

When a PSU fails, especially in the manner in which you describe not only does the psus die but it can damage the motherboard, harddrives, etc. I would not buy a new PSU at this point until you can determine if the mobo is good.

My swap file is left to be automatically managed , I know its often recommended to set it at 1.5 x size of rams but then I gave up on that trick long ago since I didn't find much benefit to it until windows latest 2017 fall update where I realized massive disk space was missing and from here to there dusting all the blahs the update left me with it was now down to this , 32 gbs swap file .

So question is , should I just let it be (New trend adopted by Microsoft of we like to spend some gigabytes with you) or should I cap it to just 1.5 ram (8 gbs) size ?
