Preferred Solution: L440 put a caddy with a new ssd

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: L440 put a caddy with a new ssd

Have a look at the Hardware Maintenance Manual to get an idea how to open things.Furthermore you might consider installing an m2 ssd .

Hi,I have replaced CD-ROM by HDD Caddy with SSD (Samsung 850 EVO 250GB) in my Lenovo ThinkPad L440 (20ASS3GT0) as a second storage device (not one with the OS). When I'm trying to start the system, I'm getting a message "Configuration changes - restart the system." and the system reboots again and again. What is more, I can't access the BIOS any more - pressing F1 does not work. Updating to the newest version of BIOS (1.85) does not help. After removing HDD Caddy everything works fine. I have tried some of the configurations below: Removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10-15 sec. and rebooted with AC Adapter connected - still got message "Configuration changes - restart the system."Removed HDD from standard SATA port and connected it using HDD Caddy - cannot boot into the system. There is no message "Configuration changes...", HDD is detected but it is not on the list with bootable devices (there is only one option to boot over the LAN).HDD Caddy connected with no storage device - boot into the system with no problem. The problem is, that I need two storage devices - one for the OS and second one (using HDD caddy) for another data. Could anyone help me to solve that issue?

Question: L440 slow ssd

I've got a L440 laptop with a Toshiba 128GB SSD, since I've gotten the laptop it has felt sluggish.  The other day I ran CyrstalMark and got results that are super slow, I'm seeing 39.95 MB/s on sequential read and 38.83 MB/s on sequential writes.  The random read/writes are even slower.  I've checked and AHCI is enabled in the UEFI BIOS and in Windows 7.  I ran another benchmark and got simliar results but with a notice of "The boot partition is located on a SATA 3.0 SSD but it's only operating at SATA 2.0 speeds. This is normally happens when a drive is inadvertently plugged into a SATA 2.0 port." As far as I can tell, the L440 should be SATA 3 and I can't find any settings in the BIOS that might impact this.  Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?  The Lenovo and Intel driver utilities show that everything is up to date and I don't see anything odd in Windows event viewer.

Answer:L440 slow ssd

Try uninstalling the Rapid Storage driver and letting Windows use the default generic SATA driver?

Check the health of the SSD?

I have an L440 (20AS) that has an M.2 expansion slot. My laptop is having the stock 500GB HDD as the only storage installed as of now. I am thinking of installing an M.2 SSD and using that as the primary boot disk, while keeping my current HDD as it is for pure storage purpose. I have a few questions:1. Is it possible to have such configuration without any hiccups?2. If yes, which would be the best M.2 disk to buy? Any suggestions?3. Is there any way to transfer my current system from existing HDD without reinstalling Windows (I am on Windows 10) on the M.2 SSD? My current C: drive is 65GB (25GB free). All data except installed softwares are in D: drive which is 400GB. So if everything is OK, I will try to buy an M.2 SSD around 128GB and will have to transfer my current C: to that, if that's possible.

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad L440 with 4GB of RAM.I want to upgrade it and I have two questions:1. Is it OK to add 8GB (so I will have 12GB in total) or it would be better to add 4GB in order to have two similar SODIMMs?2. Are there any known incompatibilities for specific brands? I found two SODIMMs from Kingston (part numbers KVR16S11/8 and KVR16LS11/8) and one from Crucial (part number CT102464BF160B). All are clocked at 1600MHz. Thanks in advance,E. PS: I beleive that I can upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty, can't I?

Question: L440 Reset

About 2 mo ago I got a brand new (warehouse fugitive) L440.  It had Win7 Pro 64bit.  the first thing I did after starting it was to let it upgrade to Win 10.  I'm a big fan and really like it, the 440, not so much.  I like the speed and quality of the build, It does everything I want and does it exceptionally well, I just can't stand the keyboard.  After reinstalling Win 10 in my T400 everything is finally working as it should and It has a far superior keyboard.  I want to reset it to give to my brother.  When I go to reset it I only get two options, and I don't really want to lose all the factory installed apps.  I'm alson a little concerned that Windows Explorer is showing Windows 7_OS (C.  It has all the app files.  It's not shown as a reset option in Settings, tho.   What's the best way to go here.  I still hae just shy of 4 year s of warrantee on it and don't want to mess that up.

Answer:L440 - M2 Sata

Short answer is yes. My L440 has a Transcend TS256GMTS400 I installed in the M.2 slot, and the software that is downloadable for it allows you to copy the O/S drive to the SSD and boot from it. My L440 goes from power on to logon in literally a few seconds and I still have the 512GB HDD available for things that don't need the blinding speed of the SSD.

Hi Ms,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understand that your display is not working in your L440 laptop.

Issue might be with the LCD cable. Since the external display is working fine there is no issue with the motherboard.

Note: As per the Lenovo policy, the warranty will be void if the laptop is dismantled by yourself.

I just bought a new l440 and wnat to install ubuntu along with win7. I created a bootable usb device but the computer won't even try usb. Which UEFI BIOS settings do I need to adjust. Thanks in advance.

Answer:L440 won't boot from usb

Hello and welcome,

How did you create the USB device?  Single FAT32 partition, current 64-bit Ubuntu ISO, copy the contents of the ISO to the flash drive with something like 7zip.

You shouldn't need to adjust anything in BIOS.  The above will boot in UEFI secure mode.

Hello finally I got my L440 and made RAM upgrade to 16GB and I also want it to have an SSD. After reading all the manuals and forum messages I think that it have  a sutiable port for an mSATA SDD which will solve my problem in a great way without replacing anything.

My question is, my machine didn't come with an mSATA or WWAN option. While making the RAM upgrade I checked the ports and there is only one seems to be suitable for mSATA but since area is too small I couldn't be sure if it is the one. Can you please check the attachment and tell me if any mSATA will fit in that port? Or maybe it is not for mSATA and I should go with the traditional SSD solutions by replacing the disc?

Thanks

Answer:msata SSD for L440?

Hi,

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 70 that slot is for a WWAN card or M.2 SSD.  An mSATA SSD will not fit.

From what I read here in the boards, finding a high capacity SSD in the right physical size is  a problem.  There are multiple sizes - IIRC the 42mm version is used in Lenovo laptops.

Hi, There seems to be some problem detected for my original 16GB M.2 SSD, so I want to replace it with a new one. I bought the following one, which should be compatible https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBZH72I/ref=twister_B00KBZH7E6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 My question is, after I get it, should I just remove the original one and install the new one? Is there any other thing I should to complete the replacement? The OS is on my HDD, but I don't plan to move it to the new SSD. In this case, do I just need to remove the old one and install the new one? The reason why I ask is that the manual says: "Ensure that you partition the M.2 solid-state drive after installing it on the computer you are servicing. Otherwise, the M.2 solid-state drive will not function correctly." Thanks a lot!

Question: L440 queries

Hi, I am a student. I am planning to buy an L440 on account of the current discounts. I have some questions which I was hoping to find answers to on this forum. The battery life is specified as 12 hours with the 56Whr cylindrical battery. Is this a large battery that protrudes out from the body of the laptop? Does someone have an idea what the battery life is with a normal 48Whr battery? I am not sure which processor to buy. i5-4200m or i5-4330m. Is the £150 difference worth it? Is the difference in speed really noticeable?I will be installing Debian linux on the laptop on dualboot with the installed Windows 8. Probably as soon as I can. Does someone know if the NGFF SSD works with the Debian? Hope the experienced forum members can help me out. Cheers!

Hi fellow doers !!Recently my L440 had a fall. Everything else is working, the back came loose but it was simple to pop back in. The problem arose in the click pad. The touch surface works but when I right click while using the track point I press on the right, especially towards the top right corner the click doesn't register and requires a lot of force. The click pad has lost some of its tactile feel. Can this be fixed, has a clip of sorts become loose.

Is there any way of automatically enabling the F-keys as an F-key on the L440? They are automatically enabled in Hotkey mode which is the equivalent of Fn+<F-key> on all previous ThinkPads. It will be counter-intiuitive for our corporate users and likely generate unneccessary support calls. I've checked the Window 7 keyboard settings and the BIOS, but can't find an option. Thanks

I haven't seen an L440 yet, but could you take a look in BIOS to see if there is a setting in the Config > Keyboard/Mouse menu called "Fn key lock", if it's there as on the L430 this is the setting you will need to change in order to return to "normal" function.

Answer:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

The optical drive of my 3-weeks-old L440 doesn't work properly. It's a little hard to describe since the behaviour is very inconsistent. The drive refuses to burn anything, either destroys the discs or doesn't even read the empty discs I put in. I've tried various programs and Windows itself, always the same. Audio-CDs are played sometimes and sometimes not.Playing DVDs however is the only thing that always works fine. I went back to Windows 8 to see if the problem was Windows 8.1It was the same mess at first but I made it work with "Microsoft Fix it"http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us So it's apparently not a hardware problem.I reinstalled 8.1 and now it' the same inconsistent mess again.Since "Microsoft Fix it" for some strange reason isn't compatible with Windows 8.1 that option is gone.Drivers, BIOS etc. are all up to date. Since I don't know what that "Fix it" tool actually did fix under Windows 8 I was hoping someone here could help.Has someone had similar problems? Thanks in advance

So I got 2x8gb of RAM, my L440 came with 4. I took out the 4gb slot and put the first 8gb stick on there. My problem is that I can't put on the second RAM stick. The RAM pins dont slide in like the first one. I try to lightly push it in but It doesnt slide in the slot. Am I doing something wrong? Where exactly are the pins supposed to go?

Answer:L440/L540 second ram slot

Hello Mui, welcome to the community,

there are two slots, one on top of the other, on the L440.  When inserting RAM you need to ensure that you initially position and insert the module at an angle of about 20° to the slot and then push it down into place.  See p74 (pdf p80) of the Harware Maintenance Manual.

If needs require I'm sure you will loads of video tutorials on YouTube.  And please don't forget to let us know how you got on.

Hello! The USB port on the top-right corner is not functional. First I found this problem because my bluetooth mouse receiver plugged there won't work. Then I tried other devices which works well on other USB ports, but it still won't have any response. Now I am pretty sure that the problem is physical, because the USB port is seemingly loosen.I bought my L440 in early September and it is still covered by limited repair. Where can I get it repaired? How long will it take because I am in intensive use of it for the next week. I live in Amherst, Massachusetts, 01002.Thank you very much!

In addition, I have done a little upgrade myself of replacing the optical drive by a SSD drive. For over two months the USB works well with this upgrade. Will this upgrade influence the warranty?Thank you

Question: Lenovo L440 review

I'm new to these forums and new to the Thinkpad world, this would be my first Lenovo. I found little reviews on the L440 or 540 models for that matter prior to purchasing so it was a bit of a blind purchase. So for those who are thinking of buying the Thinkpad L440 it is a great computer. I've only used it for a day but in short this is what I've summed up:   Pros: great build quality despite being all plastic it is strong (as I understand all thinkpad's are), no flex rigid keyboard. In my opinion it is light, not ultrabook light by any stretch but definetely not bulky/heavy, I got the HD+ 1600x900 screen-sharp, nice 16x9 format (for Excel etc, this is my work system), the text is sharp for a matte screen. Great keyboard, plenty of ports USB, VGA, display port (I'll probably buy a display port>HDMI adapter). Cons: Trackpad seems a bit finicky, I also have a tough time not having tradtional buttons but i'm sure with more use I'll get used to it. I prefer a mouse anyway, Hard Drive is heard spinning/loading (it is 7200rpm after all). Again it's not loud but noticeable, although i'll most likely swap an SDD in.  My build is the I5 4200M, 4gbs ram, HD+ screen, no DVD tray-replaced by optical drive, 6cell battery (can't comment on this, haven't had it long enough) and Windows 8.   That's about all I could think of for now with only a day of use. I love it, the build quality and ease of maintenance for future upgrades. Any questions? Feel free ... Read more

Could try the Windows 7 drivers. Sometimes they work. If you know the manufacturers of the components, I'm guessing Intel here, you could search for a driver via the internet.

Brand new L440 with WD 1TB HDD. Brand new Kingston HyperX 3K 240G SSD.   Goal:  clone  the HDD (at this point not much more than the OS - Windows 7 - there is 208G of free space) to the SSD.  Software: Acronis True Image Home 2010 which I have had for a couple of years (used successfully to do the same thing 2 years ago with different equipment).   Disk manager sees both disks and pronounces them healthy. Cloning setup:  HDD in L440, SSD in USB3.0 docking station, connected to USB port on L440.  Can see the SSD from the L440.  Disk manager indicates that about 15G of storage is being used on the SSD.   Process begins, and a page or so of terse lines of code (white on black) come up and then process pauses (no indicator of anything happening). Then nothing happens.  For hours. When I abort the process and check on the SSD, it's just as empty as it was at the beginning of the process. Any ideas? Thanks,

Answer:L440 cloning problem

Hi eyetrply,

using Acronis, or any other similar software, when cloning a ThinkPad I always reverse clone because not doing so can cause problems.  Try cloning with the new SSD installed as primary drive with the original drive attached through USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0 which Acronis will not have the drivers for.

You can find a few articles on cloning in the forum's Knowledgebase, just search on "cloning acronis"

Hi all, Quick queston: when is the L440 going to be released in the UK? I've seen it's already on sale in the US, but if anybody could give me an idea of when it might be going on sale in the UK that'd be great. Basically, I am looking to buy a laptop and I am looking at the L430 actually, but I have noticed the L440 is succeeding it so I might wait for that. Previously, I owned a ThinkPad A31 and an R40, so potentially coming back to the 'ThinkPad party' is quite exicting.   I would probably order it directly from Lenovo if I were to buy (I am looking at manufactuers) so that I could configure it with the specs I needed. As you can see, there is currently no price for the L440 on Lenovo's UK store: http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/l-series/l440/ Thanks!

I'd like some opinions please... I am a student in the UK looking to buy a laptop around late August/early September 2014. I will require the following from it: Haswell i3 or i5 8GB RAM1600x900 or 1920x1080 displayWindows 8.1 64-bitGood build qualityNot too big or heavy, so a 14" display would probably be more ideal than a 15.6"A touchscreen may be nice, but is not essential I will be doing a lot of programming on it, so a good keyboard is a must, and I will be doing photo editing and web design on it too, so it needs to be powerful. I would really like this laptop to last for a long time (and by that, I mean around 5-6 years) and to be well-built. I don't particularly have a budget, but the T440 specced out below comes to £835 and I'd say that is the very top of my budget. I am keen on a ThinkPad (used to own an A31 and an R40) and looking specifically at the L and T series. I'd like to buy something new and with a Haswell processor.  I've specced out the following machines, do you think it would be worth paying the extra for the T440? Or would the L440 be perfectly adequate and last me as long as I'd like it to last? L440 - £653 Intel Core i3-4000M Processor (3MB Cache, 2.40GHz)Windows 8 64Windows 8 64 MUI EMEA WE (EN FR GR IT NL)14.0" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband ReadyIntel HD Graphics 46008 GB DDR3L - 1600MHz (2 DIMM)Keyboard - UK EnglishUltranav with Fingerprint Reader720p HD Camera5... Answer:T440 or L440 for a student - not sure which to buy!

I have never used either machine, so my comments have to be taken as general. I have found that the "T" machines are more likely to last longer, although with any electronic products, some individual machines last longer than some other ones. I do repair machines, and I always find that the "T" machines are better to work on. The "L" machines are more likely to be snapped together, so plastic parts can break if you need to disassemble, while "T" machines are screwed together. I am in the U.S. and I have no experience with UK service, but I would skip the onsite portion of the warranty and get more memory or a faster CPU. If you are doing photo editing, products like Photoshop are resource hogs and can really tax the processor. As far as programming, it really depends on what you mean. If you are using C++ or .NET with huge builds, buy the fastest processor you can afford. With little Java applications, it doesn't matter. Any CPU will work

Answer:L440 LCD backlight issue

Hi Shlapenka,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We are sorry to hear that LCD backlight is not working in L440 laptop.

Usually, these symptoms indicate a blown fuse on the motherboard.  The issue comes up frequently when LED-backlight screens are broken.  Lenovo does not do this type of repair (other than motherboard replacement). It can be done, but most places do not have the specialized equipment to diagnose and repair.

I would like to suggest you to visit the authorised Lenovo service centre for the hardware assistance.

I am considering buying a Lenovo L440.  It comes with two memory slots but only 1 memory module:  4GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM. I'll refer to this as "DDR3L".  I have a "left over" Lenovo memory module from my T430s when I upgraded its memory:  4GB PC3-12800 DDR3SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM.  The voltage of this module is 1.35v.  I'll refer to this as "DDR3".Lenovo Tech Service say the DDR3L has a voltage of 1.25 (although I cannot find any written material toverify this).  The DDR3 definitely has a voltage of 1.35.I would like to know the pros and cons for using this "DDR3: module in the new L440:1. Dear Thinkpad Community -I am in process of buying a new computer and considering the Thinkpad L440. Specs look nice for the money but I want something I can work on outside. Anyone try this model outdoors?  What were the results?  I did do a little research and found the latest Thinkpad Product Specs Reference (March 2014). It says there are two options for a display: 1. HD, 200 nits, 500:1 contrast ratio, anti glare2. HD+, 250 nits, 500:1 contrast ratio, anti glare But I don't know enough to know if these specs are good enough. Anyone else know? If anyone has any pictures they can share that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,I am currently experiencing a big problem to deploy the Windows 7 Enterprise Images on our L440 using MDT2013/ WDS with my Server 2012 installed on my Lenovo D30 workstation. The problem is that MDT can not figure out what disc to install the windows system since the L440 have a SSD of 16GB and a HDD of 500GB.I did several tests with my task sequences by specifying the hard disk on which to install by Disk 0 or Disk 1 but I still have the same error Failure (5456): Unable to determine the Destination Disk, Partition, and / or Drive ...Yesterday I had to open an L440 machine and physically remove the SSD, then do a new test so that it works perfectly.I note that in our company we use only computers Lenovo (x131e, L420, L430, L440, T450s, x230, M93p and other models ...)Is there another way to deploy the images using MDT2013 (the one I use) on the L440 without having to physically remove the SSD, even if it is necessary to disable it in the BIOS before deploying? Or someone knows the solution so that MDT can determine on which disk to install the OS.Thank you very much, waiting for your answers

Hi, I have updated BIOS today from version 1.4x (not sure exactly) to 1.67 and ever since then the fan has always been on, even when CPU is not used at all (1-2 %). 'It is running really slowly so it does not make much noise but since I have a SSD disk it is still quite annoying. Especially given the fact that it runned completely silent with the older BIOS. So my questions are:Is that correct behaviour? If it is, is there any way to downgrade to previous version (I could find only version 1.07 for L440 which is a bit too old. No, Optimus is always active. You can´t change it in the UEFI-BIOS. This is the same for all new ThinkPads. Also, on all new ThinkPads, the external ports are connected to the Intel GPU (except the W540 in Advanced mode).

My internal DVD drive keeps spinning even if there is no access. I have the latest BIOS installed and the latest Intel RST drivers. Leovo does not offer this update though.

Answer:Internal DVD drive does not spin down (L440)

I replaced the internal DVD drive with a Panasonic UJ162 BluRay drive and this one spins down after approx. 2 minutes. So the problem seems to be drive-related. Altough I don't need the fix any more for other users a fix could be appreciated.

I wonder if it is possible to set charging thresholds (e.g. start charing if below 40% and only up to 80%) as you can do wirth Power Manger for Windows 7 for the Thinkpad Edge e330 Furthermore, is the 1660x900 Display of the L440 better than the 1366x768 Display of thee330? The e330 colors are a bit washed out for my taste. I would highly appreciate your feedback as I'm planning to buy a L440 in the near future.

Answer:L440: Charging percentages possible in Win7?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Battery thresholds can be adjusted in Power manager only under Windows 7. In Windows 8/8.1, this feature has been removed and power manager is not available.

1600x900 allows you to see more on the screen than 1366x768. These are measures of resolution for display.

I used this "opportunity" to upgrade it to full hd, also replaced the connecting cable.Nonetheless, my screen is still always dark - in Windows, as also for the bios or post screen (external works fine here).Depending in which panel I install, the old low res or ne full hd, the resolution on the external  monitor responses to that (clone mode). Thus I assume, the both cabels are fine, both panel are fine, the system recognizes them. But why is it still blank. Also tried to trigger closing the lid with a magnet (next to the webcam), only shutsdown then.Any ideas?!

On the driver page on the lenovo website for the nvidia optimus driver for the L440, it says that the supported device is the Nvidia geforce gt 720M here is the link to that: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS039822 This makes me think that I can connect at least that card to the laptop but any others? It would help to know the best graphics card I could connect. Thanks for the help.

Hello, Just got a new L440 laptop. I experiencing problems with usb. I have a expresscard 34, but this card uses USB to communicate with the laptop. At first everything seems to work. But after a warm reboot the card is not found by windows anymore. Removing and re-inserting the card help, also powering off and on does. I do not need usb3 so disabled usb3 it in the bios. This problem disapears, but now one usb slot doesn't recognise some divices anymore (keeps enumerating the device), also easily looses connection with the devices connected to it. I updated the bios, used latest driver form lenovo, tried latest driver from intel, Windows 7 x64, windows 7 32bit. Original install, clean windows install. result is always the same. Anyone experience simular/relating problems, or better has a (possible) solution for this? Regards,  Richard

Answer:L440 usb (on expresscard slot) problem

Hi TechNet,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with USB port on your ThinkPad L440.

Has you have done all the troubleshooting steps and still the issue persists on one of the USB port.
Have you checked with Live Linux bootable USB pen drive if it boots or not (Check with all the USB port)?
Is the issue is with right hand side USB port next to Audio port?

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi,

Recently purchased a Lenovo 440 for work. 2 weeks later, I open it to find the screen is cracked. Been emailing Lenovo but they are refusing to pay and I now urgently need to fixed so will just pay someone to do it.

Now, a lot of these computer repair company's have quoted me a lot of money which im not willing to pay, so though I'd source the screen myself, however this has not gone as planned.

I have searched the internet high and low for a Lenovo L440 LCD display but cannot find a site selling them anywhere. I seem to be able to find a screen for every single laptop in the world, bar my one.

Can anyway offer any advise here? I have managed to find this on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Think...t+screen+14%22 but I wasn't sure if it was compatible or not.

Thanks.

Hi I have a broken battery latch on my L440 (now taped in place) Does anyone know where I can get a replacement from.Which other TP uses the same part ??   Thanks in advance

Answer:Battery latch ThinkPad L440

Zandoomaloff,

If you system is under warranty, I would recommend you contact service.  If you are outside of warranty, I'm not sure if the part that is broken is on the battery or the system chasis.

The hardware maintenance manual for your system should help you identify the part and part numbers to order.

I just got my L440 through Global Computer and overall, I'm very happy with it. It's a model 20ASS2TH00, which I didn't realize came without a camera and mic's. I very much want to add these. I saw in the parts breadown that the camera and mic's are one unit, and just drop into the bezel. Does anyone know if the circuitry will be there to activate the camera assembly? Opening up the bezel seems straightforward and this is not a difficult job. Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:Adding Camera/Microphones to L440

Hi normkol,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

As per your query, yes you can add these parts into your L440 laptop but what I suggest you is to take the laptop to the nearest service centre and get it fixed. If in case, if anything happens while fixing the camera and mic into your laptop the warranty may get void. So it?s better to be in a safer side always.

Please find the below link to find out the exact part number for your L440 laptop.

Please let us know, whether the above suggestion helped you.
Thankyou,

I upgraded my L440 Thinkpad to Windows 10 yesterday. Everything working fine except the 16GB M2 cache I have there. I tried drivers for Windows 8.1 & Windows 7 to make it work but that did not work. So when is Lenovo going to give us the driver for that cache? Or any workaround?

When I connect to wifi with L440, wifi works 5-30 min. and then crash. L440 kills wifi network. All devices can't connect to wifi until I restart router. I have read about this problem, but in task manager I can't find "discovery.exe" or LenovoEMC Storage Connector in Contral Panel. p.s. First off: Lenovo Thinkpad L440Windows 7 Ultimate N x64Fresh install This laptop was purchased in Japan and currently has a Japanese keyboard, running as an English(US) one. I just today popped the SSD out of my dead laptop and put in this L440, and installed Windows 7 Ultimate N x64. I connected the old HDD that came with the L440 via USB cable to search for all the drivers, and was able to install it all. Everything seems to be working fine, EXCEPT for the trackpad. It feels a little bit buggy, and the double-finger scrolling feature doesn't work. So I went on Lenovo's support page and downloaded the appropriate Synaptics driver for Keyboard and Mouse. The install went fine, device manager shows no unidentified devices, but the issue with the trackpad persists. If I try to open the application that was installed with the drivers I downloaded from Lenovo (not the ones I got from the HDD) I keep getting an error window "Unable to connect to the Synaptics pointing device driver" that pops up upon opening the mouse property application, when I click on "advanced" in the thinkpad tab in mouse properties, and when I click "gestures" and "advanced" for the first time in the advance window. If I try to close out the advance window, it is incredibly slow, and if I try to force it closed, it says that the Windows Shell Dll has stopped working, or something like that. The mouse drivers I got can be found here:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-an... Hey all, Just got my ThinkPad in the mail, and it seems that the webcam records only in grayscale. However, when I shine a light directly into the camera, it adjusts itself to briefly show color. Here's an example video:https://www.dropbox.com/s/uq8q06e0fsoy7z0/WIN_20140529_194538%20%282%29.MP4 I've tried upgrading to the latest webcam driver, which showed no change. I've also tried adjusting the camera's exposure manually, which only modulated how washed-out the black-and-white picture appears. What do?

Is there any way to change the wifi card of Lenovo L440 from "2x2 11b/g/n Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter" to "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC" ? I tried a couple of wifi cards and there was always 1802 error. It will be very good if you can advise me which one will fit without this error and where can I purchase it. Thank You !

Answer:L440: wifi card options?

The system service parts document shows the whitelisted cards and their FRU numbers.  There appears to be one AC card in the list.

Please keep in mind that to pass the BIOS whitelist a card must be the correct model and have a Lenovo FRU number.

A Google search turns up several possible vendors.

Dear all, since almost 2 years I am pretty happy with my L440.But lately, I often have problems with the touchpad becaue it suddenly stops working,no mouse moving, no touchpad-based clicking. The trackpointer still works and also the hardware buttons for left and right clicking are still working. However, depending on the task i prefer either trackpad or touchpad. I already changed the sensitivity for palm checking but no effect.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a Lenovo L440 and when I turn on my laptop, its take more less 5/6 secs to turn on the screen and show me Thinkpad screen. I compared my laptop whith a same model in my work and I saw that the laptop in my work turn on faster than my laptop (2 secs). Can you tell me if 5/6 it is normal or how I can improve this? I have the last version of the BIOS and I buy a SSD and it is frustrating that the laptop take much time in turn on the screen when windows start very fast. Thanks!,Mati

I have an L440 (20AS) that has an open expresscard slot at the bottom left corner. I am not using it for anything, and I don't plan to buy a 3G card in future. I want to use it for some other purpose, mainly storage. Is there any storage options available other than USB 3.0? Like expresscard to mSATA SSD or something like that, that will allow me to boot from the expresscard as I have an internal HDD. I have enough USB ports, so I dont want more, I don't need a TV tuner either. I know there is an internal M.2 slot that I can use for fast boot. So I am just trying to find something useful like external graphics card, may be.

Answer:Expresscard slot usage in L440

I use it with this :   Creative Labs SB0950 ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Notebook Audio System http://www.amazon.com/Creative-SB0950-ExpressCard-Blaster-Notebook/dp/B001BS3A3E/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UT...  Got it for $10 (now it's more) - not bad sound for the money. Search for latest 3rd party drivers (x64) (2015) on Creative forum.(got Creative remote reciever for $16 to work with the card).Works well with my old L412 - you can switch between internal and external sound cards.
