Toshiba Satellite A350-13D will not start up, but USB has power?

Question: Toshiba Satellite A350-13D will not start up, but USB has power?

Ok, here?s the story. I own a Toshiba Satellite A350 laptop for a few years. As every night, laptop was on, I press the power button making it go into hibernate and then pull out the plug (battery is out, since it is always on cable and it might save the battery)

The next day, I plug in the adapter, press the power button and nothing happens. Literally nothing. Black screen, not a single sound .. nothing. All I can see is the indication light that the adapter is plugged in, which lights up.

I searched the internet (using another PC, duh ) and found lots of similar issues with Toshiba laptops. Main solution seems to be holding the power button for 30 second, putting the battery in and restarting it. None of these methods help.

I took the laptop apart, checked (and disconnected) the CMOS battery. Checked the power button, which is working, cleaned everything.

Here?s the weird thing: I have an USB optical mouse and a keyboard connected. I noticed that ?besides the indication of the adapter- the red light of my mouse is on all the time and also the indication lights (caps lock, num lock) of my keyboard can be switched on. So there seems to be power on my USB as soon as I connect my adapter.

Hope anyone can help, because I ran out of options. Two friends looked into it, no one has a clue.

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite A350-13D will not start up, but USB has power?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have just bought a new A350. I was installing Comodo during a Windows update.
The Comodo install failed to complete, but the Windows update did. We initially had three problems;

1. Lost internet connectivity, but not LAN. This was resolved by installing Comodo.
2. On start up the following message box appears "Can not find script file C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Management Console\TOSHealthLocalS.vbs"
3. When I start the Toshiba Management Console the following message box presents:

C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Toshiba Management Console\TOSMgmt.exe
The specified path does not exist.

Check the path, and then try again

I have checked the path and that component does not appear to be loaded.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite A350: Error Messages on Start up when Toshiba Console is started

It looks like the Toshiba Console software does not function properly due to the instillation of the Comodo?
I don?t know exactly what happens but I think something has been muddled up?

I think the Toshiba Console should be installed again but to be honest I didn?t find it on the Toshiba European driver page!

Maybe you could set the OS back to the early time point before you have installed the Comodo? This should help you too?

Hi there guys. I just acquired a laptop from my step-father and I have formatted it to Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I seem to have most drivers for it but I have missing a crucial piece of software.

I have tried Vista 64bit and Win7 Flash Cards Utility to get my FN Keys working. Non of which have. Also the Value Added Package wont install either.

I would love some help with this!

Any Ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A350

Did you install the chipset drivers first before any other driver the .inf file gives the correct locations to which all other drivers will be instaled.

You should only use drivers for Windows 7 64-bit only

Have you checked that the FN key is not damaged or debris caught under the key itself giving a bad contact?

Did you install win7 yourself using a generic Win7 disc?

Since today im experiencing problems with my power supply.

What happens:

When I connect my AC adapter to charge my battery the battery sign will go on for 2 secs and then turn off again. Windows also does not Recognise the battery charging.

At this moment I' m unable to give any more details because the battery has gone flat.

If I take out the battery and try on AC only the notebook does not switch on. So the battery has to be inserted in order to boot. so the power will go to the battery first and then to the system which is quite strange.

The battery itself shows no signs of damage / leaks.

Voltage output on DC: 19.55VDC @ 6.32A
AC/DC adaptor: According to the specs and my readings, not faulty.

Model: Satellite A350-12z

Answer:Power issue on Satellite A350-12Z

Do you use original Toshiba battery and AC/DC adapter or some 3rd party parts?

It is strange why notebook doesn?t start without battery. Usually you can always start a notebook with AC/DC adapter only, battery is not necessary.

So either it?s something wrong with AC/DC adapter or mainboard itself? At the moment I believe it?s mainboard malfunction.

I bought my Satelite A350-20Q 2 1/2 yeras ago, and when I turned on my laptop the screen was dim, the power supply was already plugged in but it did not make any change. How can order a replacement?

Answer:How To Order New AC Power Supply for Satellite A350-20Q?

Hi, a dim screen can be caused by a number of components so someone needs to do some diagnostics to determine which part needs replacing. The safest thing to do is send the notebook to a Toshiba Repair Center and ask for a quote for the repair.

There is a list of ASP's on the Toshiba website.

I have A100-599 with Vista pre-installed. As you know there is Toshiba Power Saver bundled with vista mobile power settings. Not always, but sometimes when I turn on the computer and windows starts I get this message "Toshiba Power Saver service couldn't start".

When I checked in Control Panel->System->Services if the service indeed off I saw that it did start and is running.

Can someone tell me why this message sometimes pops up? Is it a software issue or may be there is a problem with the hardware?

Answer:Satellite A100-599: Toshiba Power Saver service couldn't start

The simplest way to solve this issue is to recover the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD.
In this case all programs and the whole OS should works without any problems.
You have suggested that you have the recovery CD. Use it.
Before you will start this procedure, make a backup of your all important files

is there a way to boot the OS(WIN8.1) [system status: shut down]
without pulling the screen first up and pushing the power button?

FYI: I 'm using a external HDMI connected monitor/screen!

I know of the feature wake on keyboard via BIOS, but using that requires a laptop in hibernation/standby mode.
It kinda bugs me everytime to pull the display up and pushing
Wake on Lan is not an alteranative as its connected via W-LAN

Any ideas or hint appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, there is no other method to power up the notebook, if the unit has been powered off.

You have to push the power button to power ON the notebook.

I have installed Windows 7 64 on my Toshiba A350-13C laptop.
During installation I used USB mouse. After installation I noticed that touchpad doesn't work. I downloaded Synaptics driver for W7 from toshiba download site but it didn't help. Then I downloaded original Synaptics driver from their site but it didn't help too. In Device Manager there is Touchpad Pointing Dev. and it looks like I would work fine. The same tells me the synaptics tray agent. However, when I click on it's icon - > Accesories -> Pressure graph (or similar name - I translated it from my lang), it returns an error message: Sorry, this program requires Synaptics TouchPad device and Synaptics pointing driver. What's going on?

I also downloaded Toshiba Value Added Package for W7 and installed. HoweverPower Saver doesn't work (I reinstalled TVAP but it fixed nothing). In start menu there's no shortcut to PS, like there are shortcuts to other apps from Value Added Package. PS service seems to be running but main program doesn't run when I double click on it in Program files\Tosh.... folder.
What is more, I have 3 unknown devices in Dev. Manager. I have no idea what it is because all dev. (except touchpad) work fine. I also installed Intel chipset drv., Realtek HD Audio, Intel Storage, Ati graphic drv. but it didn't help.
I guess these 3 unknown devices may be really one device in fact, because all are: primary system device on PCI bus 32.

Please help.

Answer:Touchpad and Power Saver doesn't work - Satellite A350

>I downloaded Synaptics driver for W7 from toshiba download site but it didn't help
Can you please tell me where you found Synaptics driver on Toshiba download page for Satellite A350-13C
I can?t see this driver on the list.

I don't know which notebook you used before but since Vista Power Saver is a little bit different and you cannot find it in start menu but in advanced power options.
About unknown devices I cannot tell you much because I don't know which drivers you have installed and which are missing. Simply install all of them.

Hello, at first, sorry for my english:).

I have Toshiba Satellite A350-13A model and really big trouble with it: when I switch it on by the power button, power lamp is starting to shine, I can hear voice of fan for a secound - then it stops and i notice that HDD is starting to work - I can hear it and see by flashing lamp next to battery lamp, CD drive is working too, but nothing else happens. There's nothing on monitor. It looks like bios isn't starting. Let me explain what have I been doing when it all started. My computer has been working correctly but there have been a little mess on my HDD so I recovered system from recovery CDs, which I've made after buying computer. Everything was ok, system works correctly, so I started to install my software. I didn't uninstall this factory-installed program for system optimizing which is (I can't remember it's name now, but I mean this program which shows you updating for your drivers - I remember that there were updates for face recognition, video etc.) I installed all of updates that this program shows, including BIOS update. When I was done with installing these updates, I noticed that my keyboard is not working - with any button.

By the time, windows ended to doing it's update, so I switched "Turn on system again" from the windows start menu by the mouse. Then system closed itself, I saw that windows is updating itself like it always do after downloading updates, but when it all came to the end and computer sho... Read more

Answer:Satellite A350 doesn't start - BIOS failure or mainboard crash?

The caps lock light might not work if the BIOS is bad. It does sound like the BIOS is bad. First, I recommend that you see if the computer is under warranty. If it is, then let Toshiba fix it for you.

If it's not, then you might have success with Crisis Recovery Disk. I don't have any A350, but I have used Crisis Recovery with lots of dead Toshiba's, and it sometimes works. There is more information [here|] but be careful, because this method can make a good BIOS go bad.

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

current 19v..3.1A

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

Hello guys. This is my first post here. First at all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm from Costa Rica so excuse me if my english sometimes gets messed up.

I know this is an old thread. I double checked any possible option before i decide to post my situation. But none of them seems to work for me.

My problem is this:
I got a laptop Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334
Model number: PSAA8U-14M02K
Systemboard Toshiba number is: V00068590
Systemboard number is: 1310A2041316
What happened to my system is the like you guess it wont power up. Last time my brother used, it was working fine, he let the battery run out of power so we could start charging it back from 0. But when we plugged nothing happened, no lights, no charge no anything.

i tried everything, from removing the battery to replace hard drives an other components.. (with the help of a expert). Eventually i took it to the toshiba support center and the guy only tells me that is the systemboard what is wrong with the computer.

Now, i will like to know what exactly went wrong but they wont tell me. they just tell me that i have to replace the component.

Now here comes the thing.... is the second time in less than a year that i will have to replace the motherboard. First time it was under warranty so they change some defective systemboard along with some memory. 6 months later it happens again.

The first time it wasn't so drastic. it gave me some signs of failure so i took it right awa... Read more

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

Hi everybody!

I'm having a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ. It has an 750 GB HDD, but that wasn't enough for me. So I bought a Toshiba 1TB HDD. I undid all the screws, carefully (using my driver license), lifted up the plastic and removed a HDD.

BTW, I really like that platic solution on the HDD!!

Then I realised, that all my stuff is still on it.
So I put the HDD back, planning that I'll copy everything on my ext. hard drive.
Well I screwed it back, got the battery back in, put the AC adaptor back.

The LED was on, indicating that power is flowing, battery is loading. I pressed the "Power-On" button, and nothing happened. Pressed it again still nothing. I plugged the battery and the AC adaptor out, I held the Power button for 30 sec, put everything back still nothing. I got scared. Opened the back once again, just to take a look at, if anything slipped out. Nope.

Everything is A-OKAY. What to do? Did I void the warranty? I hope not.
Can I repair myself without voiding my warranty? I hope so!

And also: I bought the laptop in Hungary, but I'm in Germany. Can I get it repaired here, in case my warranty is valid?

Thank you for your help!

Not sure if anyone can offer any advice on this one. Basically I bought a laptop from someone who I work with for my son as an xmas present. Paid £400 for it which I was told was reasonably fair at the time, it was 14mths old.As of yesterday it has apparently died. When it is connected to the power supply there are no lights, nothing. The power lead is warm so I am assuming that part is ok. When I wiggle the power lead around there is no intermittent power coming through, so I think the power jack is ok so that leaves me with the motherboard. I have read on some sites that it can be pretty expensive to repair, some companies offer to change the whole mother board whilst others will repair the faulty chips. Not sure whether to send it off to someone or take it down to a local computer repair shop (I dont want to be ripped off more than I already have)!Has anyone else had a similar problem, or can someone recommend a good repair company to use.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A665 won't power on.

When you are trying to turn it on are there any bleeps or do any lights flash in any kind of sequence ?

A couple of things you could try and that is a cold boot and/or resetting the BIOS.

A cold boot is when you remove the battery and the AC power cord then hold the power button in for 40 secs - 1min.

Have you tried booting up with just AC and the battery removed ?

Hi Dimitri,

Sudden power downs without the normal shutdown process occurring can be caused by over-heating. Check that your notebook is not blocked with dust and debris in the area of the air intake fans and CPU heatsink.

Having done a good job on that I assembled it only to find that it would not boot up and the only thing that does happens is the orange power L.E.D. at the front flashes.I have read some information from Toshiba Technical Service & Support which states, and I quote :"Toshiba Europe has identified that some notebooks manuafactured in January and February 2000 may have a fault that could prevent the notebook from starting up. This fault has been reported on some Celeron(tm) processor based Satellite 4090 systems operating at 400 MHz as well as Pentium(r) II processor based Satellite 4100 and Tecra 8000, operating at 400 MHz only.Affected notebooks can no longer be started and the DC-IN LED at the front of the notebook blinks. Intel and Toshiba have developed the solution to this issue that has been implemented in manufacturing (Intel revised up the module to REV 505) and any affected notebooks can be repaired relatively easily."End of quote. If anyone can tell me what this repair solution is I would be very happy !!!Thanks

Answer:Power-up on Toshiba Satellite 4100XCDT

You eliminated the most important part of the quote:"Notebooks with the potential to show the no boot issue would be in a serial number range starting with ?10? or ?20?. The serial number can be found on the silver product ID label on the base of the unit. Please contact your local Toshiba Service Partner for more Information"

Hi all and thanks in advance.

I'm trying to repair a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305 that will not power on after being dropped on it's corner. It hit on the corner where the speaker and power jack are.
When I plug it in, the power light and battery charging light come on. If I press the power button, the power light comes on, but I don't hear anything, see anything, or feel any vibration to show that it's actually trying to boot or anything.

I opened it up, took it apart and reseated every connector, RAM, and drive and am still seeing the same problem.

The power jack is removable, and attached via cable to the motherboard. It looked like it was in pretty good shape and the cable and connector did not seem to be stressed.

I also tried plugging it in to an external monitor with no results.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't power on after being dropped

Maybe you damaged the motherboard or CPU?

...and this would probably mean the laptop would make a 'beep' sound, but maybe u damaged the sound too?

Big theory, but, may be true.

I liked the Toshiba Power Saver that I had used for so long with my laptop, but after upgrading to W7-32b it does not work anymore... Most of the new utilities and drivers from Toshiba are specific for W7-64b.

I was wondering if a driver from a relatively new computer (32b based) would work fine in mine and, if it is worth a try, which one would be the most "similar" laptop to mine?

In case nothing works is there any other power management utility that you could recommend me?

Does anyone know how to uninstall the Toshiba Power Saver Driver manually (so that one does not have to perform a clean install of Windows)? There is no automatic uninstallation for the TPS driver (not to be confused with the Toshiba Power Saver that can be uninstalled without problems).
Notice: the recovery CD is not an option here, because the TPS driver is included.

I want to do this to check if it is the thing that messes up the keyboard or not (see posts on M60 keyboard problem). I just wanted to check it on a new Sat P100 that has a similar keyboard, but guess what... the TPS is not enclosed with it.

As one may have guessed, the keyboard problem was not solved at the Toshiba service representative.

Now I've bought an XP Pro and I've installed it reformatting all the notebook.
Then I've installed all the drivers downloaded from your site.
The Installation of seems to work fine, but at reboot I obtain an error:

What can I do?

Answer:Toshiba power saver crash on Satellite A60

Unfortunately it is not easy to say why this error message occurs. It is very important that you use Installation Instructions document while drivers and tools installation because the installations order is very important for successful installation.

Try to remove power saver and install it again.

Dear All,

Is there is a version of TOSHIBA Power Saver for windows Vista that dont check the model of the laptop before the installation because I have Satellite M45-S265 and I know that it is not supported for Vista but I successfully got vista working on it TPS on it so any help I'll be thankful.

Answer:Is there a Toshiba Power Saver for Satellite M45 with Vista

You are right about Vista support. As far as I know there is no ?universal? power saver version but in my opinion you do not need it at all. Power saver tool for Vista does not look like old version and under Vista many settings have been taken over Vista itself.

Because of that I am pretty sure you do not need it at all. Be happy that Vista works well on your Satellite notebook. Optimize OS and enjoy it.

Hi, I need help with my toshiba satellite a215-s4747. There is no power when I press the power button when I plug in a AC adapter. no any light on or blinking.
I disassembled it, remove ram, modem, hot-sink, fan, cpu. I plug in a AC power adapter to the motherboard and use a voltage meter to measure it. It has 19.8v,
so will be the motherboard problem? Thank you for help!

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums a little to find a solution to my problem.
Having not found anything that seems to be the fix, i'm here - with my first post.

I've been looking at a friends Toshiba Satellite A300, that wont power on.
It was working fine until he purchased a new charger - a universal one.
He took the model number into the shop and was told this charger would do the job.
He told me the tip was hard to get into the charger port, he had to use force.

Since then, it hasn't powered on. He told me the charge lights were coming on, but nothing else.

I have the same model laptop as him, so we tried with my charger, my battery, still nothing.

I've taken the laptop completely apart. Re-seated everything. Still nothing.

What i noticed was that with the battery in, and my charger, when i left it charging for a while and tried to power on, it waited maybe a minute then the fan and power on lights came on for maybe 5 seconds then it died again.

Another thing i've noticed is that when it's charging with the battery in, the quick play lights near the power button work. I can press them without the laptop being on and they turn on/off except the media light, it stays on if turned on.

The only thing i have yet to try is replacing the CMOS battery.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what may be the problem here? It seems very odd for this to just start happening. The laptop hasn't been taken apart ... Read more

I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. Is it OK to uninstall the Power Saver v5.04 from a SP6100 as it doesn't seem to work properly, or at all?

I have already been checking and changing the BIOS v1.90 power settings also accordingly, but the machine still neither ever power-off the hard drive nor will go to standby sleep.

The only things working somehow are the screen saver and screen power off, but very rarely according to the settings' timing ...

Best regards,

Pete V.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 and "Toshiba Power Saver"

Hello Pete

I?m really wondering the Power Saver doesn?t work well on your notebook. This tool is one of the best Toshiba designed tools and it is very useful if you want to optimize notebook power consumption.

I really don't know what is wrong there but if you are not satisfied you can remove it from the system or simply use different ?power scheme? in power options properties.
Maybe you should try to reinstall power saver.

Have you noticed some other issue with your SP 6100?

Hi All,...

First Thank u for replying my previous question which helped me a lot. I have another question. I had a Tecra A4 laptop before which comes with Toshiba Power Saver utility which can control the brightness and various power profiles for Windows. I now have L40-17R laptop, which I cannot find the same utility for???

Can anyone tell me if there is a tool for managing power profiles for L40-17R model, and where can I download it?

Answer:Toshiba Power Saver utility for Satellite L40-17R

As you know for WXP Toshiba has offered Toshiba Power Saver utility but for Vista this tool does not exist in the same format. Many functions are now in Vista power settings. Toshiba Power Saver utility is also there but just with several options.

You can find it if you open Power options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. There you will find Toshiba Power Saver Settings V8.02.00.

This is a Toshiba Satellite L25 - Model no. PSL2XU

The laptop won't turn on. I unplugged the battery and tried direct power from the AC adapter, and still nothing. There are no indications of life (no light to indicate charging, power, anything). I don't think it's a battery issue.

When I plug the AC adapter, and I take the battery out, the prongs that connect to the battery sustain a voltage (I checked with a voltmeter). I don't think the adapter is bad.

So what could it be? Is the motherboard just dead? A short circuit somewhere between the AC adapter and the motherboard?

My brother uses the laptop. He tells me he had issues keeping the battery charged. He bought a new battery, and he had the same issue. The battery would be drained faster and faster, charges would take longer and longer. Ultimately, at one point, he found it could not be turned on. This is his account of what happened, so I'm not sure it's 100% what happened.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Laptop: power problems

Sounds very much like the cmos/bios battery is dead.
I have seen this happen many times.
If it is soldered in, then you are out of luck.
Sometimes leaving the laptop on charge for 24 hours can re-charge this little battery, and you may get it re-started.

My laptop has developed a strange power fault, it will charge the battery while it is off but when you turn it on it seems to run off the battery then power down when the battery goes flat. All the time this is happening the AC power light is on which suggests the power is connected and all is well, the battery light shows it is fully charged until power on when it changes from white to amber.
I am going to buy a new battery as mine is not lasting very long and I need the laptop for work and can't afford to replace it right now. Any suggestions as to why the battery is getting charge but not the laptop itself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300 power fault.

There could be a number of reasons. A loose connection, power adapter fault etc.
Try removing the battery from the laptop and see what happens when the mains power supply are then turned back on.
You could also have a look at this link for Toshiba information
Doing a simple internet search, there appears to be a number of Toshiba laptop charging problems mentioned, with some possible solutions.
Failing that, have you tried Toshiba support and customer care?.

Also, afterwards the light on the front that shows the plug in wire begins blinking orange. this happened before a couple of weeks ago and i fixed it by tilting the laptop on its back then restarting in safe mode and everything was fine. At the time, it initially turned off because i picked it up off te table. for a while it would start, but turn off as soon as i pushed a button or picked the machine up. i thought it was a loose wire but then why did starting it up in windows safe mode seem to work last time? i literally shook the thing after to see if there was still a problem and it didnt turn off. this time, it wont even start up at all. the screen doesnt even turn on.i tried undoing all the screws to look inside so i could at least see if something is loose but the top wouldnt come off.

Ok I have done a ton of research online about what could be wrong with my laptop. But I cant find anything about my situation. When I plug the charger in I get a blue charge light on and it stays on. I dont have a battery so I cant tell you if it will charge. But to my knowledge I dont even need a battery to turn on the laptop. I can use AC. When I hit the power button the power light next to the charge light turns on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off. I can do this over and over till I am blue in the face. By the way when i hit the power button nothing happens inside the laptop at all. No sound or movement. Now i have tried to hold the power button with out it being plugged in for 30 secs to 3 mins and still the same routine. I reseated the memory and also taken out the hard drive and DVD drive. I have a power up issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033. About a month ago my laptop suddenly shutoff and is showing no power incoming/charging. When I try removing the charger and plug and holdong down the power button it ends up not doing anything andiI've tried for about 5 mins. I first noticed that when I was on AC power, the battery would start discharging, and the charge light would be off. So I shut down, took the battery out, and tried to restart on AC. It would start the boot process, run for less then 10 seconds, and shut off. I would restart again, it would get about half way through the boot process, and shut down again. Then I would restart, and it would boot up fine, but shut down after a couple of hours.

I thought it was overheating, so I removed and cleaned the heat sink thoroughly, and made sure the fans are working right. No luck.

Now it gets really weird. I bought a new battery, installed it and let in charge overnight. The next day everything worked perfectly on AC for at least 10 hours, and I shut it down for the day. The following day, after running for several hours on AC, I noticed that the charge light was off, and the battery was discharging again. Shut it down, took the battery out, tried to restart, and had the same three times to a good boot up described above. It ran perfectly without the battery for several hours afterwards. I then reinstalled the battery, and for the moment, it's working fine. But I'm sure this will start again.

Anyone have a clue?

Answer:Weird Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 Power Problem

The power adapter sounds as if its on the way out, it's unable to supply the power needed for the laptop for long without cutting out. The charge light going off confirms that suspicion.

A friend of mine is going to New Zealand next week and will take his Toshiba Satellite laptop with him. I don't have the model number handy, unfortunately.

He's looking for a converter he can use for the wall power outlet. He will plug his AC adapter into the converter and that into the wall outlet so he can charge his laptop. He found a converter that is advised to NOT be used with electronic devices that use more than 25W and I'm thinking his laptop does. His laptop is 3-5 years old, probably leaning more toward 5 yrs.

I don't know what kind of power rating (voltage or wattage, I'm not good at this stuff) New Zealand has so I'm not sure what kind of conversion options he has. His laptop was purchased in the US.

Any tips or advice?

Answer:Question about Toshiba Satellite laptop and power conversion

Might want to look through this page.
Will probably need the transformer and an adapter plug.
Information about how much power is needed.
Might be easier if they picked one up after they get there.
They can be a bit heavy.

I don't use this feature and would like to delete the file hiberfil.sys which is over 1GB.

I understand that by disabling Hibernation this file should delete. I read about it here:

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P10-804: Toshiba Power Options - How to disable Hibernation

I presume the Toshiba Power saver utility was installed on your system.
In such case the Windows own power options are disabled and the TPS controls the hibernation and standby mode.

You can switch back to the window power mode in the control panel -> power options.
There you have to choose to another power scheme as the Toshiba power saver.
Otherwise you can remove the TPS from the system!

However, in my opinion the hiberfil.sys has no bad influence on the system and it's really not necessary to delete this file.
On my system the file size was never ever 1GB.

As well as a few other places. The universal charger is not working now. I had my thoughts on the Jack as well however. its a pretty new computer, only about a 1.5 yrs old. Since its a Universal adapter I went and tried the adapter on my girlfriends laptop. Same problem, however when I plug my girlfriends charger into hers it works perfectly fine. No problems what so ever.
Now here is what worries me.

My Jack does get warm sometimes. but the Adapter gets very hot until my laptop is completely charged.
My computer recognizes that it is plugged in however the power light will flash between orange and blue while the battery will be orange regardless if its fully charged. If its fully charged it will be blue but when this happens it changes to orange and the screen dims.

These are the only problems that I have noticed thus far. Any suggestions or thoughts.? Maybe just buy a new charger? Time to replace the Jack and Charger?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Where can I download the Toshiba Power Saver for Windows 8 64x?

Answer:Satellite C850-1E7 - Need Toshiba Power Saver for Windows 8 64x

Since WXP Toshiba doesn?t offer power saver as separated tool. It is part of Toshiba value added package that Toshiba has created for Vista and modified for Win7.

Which notebook model do you have?

My Wife's laptop power connector socket has become loose in the case making it difficult to connect to the charger. It doesn't seem to move very much. I suspect it has received a knock with the connector plugged in which has broken it. Does anyone know of a guide to open up the laptop? I've repaired others when I've had a guide but don't fancy attempting it without. It's out of warranty and suspect it wouldn't be covered anyway.Any other ideas? After hearing all the horror stories about laptop repair repair Companies I'd rather tackle this myself.

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

You have to install firstly the Common Modules and then software like:
Hotkey Utility
Touch Pad On/Off Utility
Power Saver

But the Common Modules is the essential software which must be installed at first

Please help with installing the Toshiba Power Sawer on Windows XP SP2
I have a laptop Toshiba Sattelite P300D.

Installed all Windows XP driver from the site including the Toshiba driver for AMD processors.
Then install the Toshiba Power Sawer and not what happens, only the CPU load by 50% approximately.
In what may be the reason that it is necessary to install Toshiba Power Sawer?

Answer:Re: Satellite P300D-10U: installing Toshiba Power Sawer on Win XP SP2

I?m a little bit confused?
Do you have any problems with Power Saver installation or with the CPU performance?

Note; you can change the CPU control method and the CPU processing speed in Basic Setup of the Power Saver!
This will affect and change the CPU performance.

Toshiba Satellite A305 Laptop all original hardware

laptop electronics/electrical question:
I recently purchased a laptop (toshiba sattelite A305, sweet) that I have (recently) used before from a friend. I've since found that the power adapter theyve had plugged to it for who knows how long, was completely wrong and they had lost the old one and just plugged one up "that fit", Great.... (Com: toshiba 19v 3.95a...Power Adapter: Cannon 24v 2.2a probably a printer). I found this out after the Com started acting strangly slow and then wouldnt boot, stating that there was no hard drive found. I actually got it to boot one more time after this and havent since. So either the 24volts fried something or the 2.2 amps stressed something. I decided to get another hard drive and of couse to no avail. Still...... No hard drive found, check connections, blah blah blah. I plugged the old hard drive up to my desktop and it works fine. I checked the system setup and everthing is still there except the hard drive, even though it is installed correctly. Clock, Date, Ram, Video, Wireless, CD, everything works, can be seen in setup and hasnt changed. I set the defaults and still nothing. I tried the new drive and a new operating system (XP Pro is all I have right now, I will buy vista, which was on it, if I know I can make it work.) It loads windows setup but then same message......No Hard Drive.
So, Im sure youve guessed my question. I know the power supply isnt burnt ... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A305 (hard drive, Power?)

There isn't anywhere else you can get a new laptop motherboard for less than $300-$400. They're all that price.

If it did visibly fry something then it would be a transistor or capacitor close to the power source. It's much more likely that it simply destroyed the hard drive controller on the board and that you won't actually see anything.

i am fighting with this problem for months now.. the latest version of power saver on my toshiba sat pro m30 running windows xp with service pack 1 installed gives a message box with an error message on shutdown and i am unable to eliminate this error. unfortunately, i cannot consider re-installing the system from scratch, because there are many other applications installed and i cannot lose settings for them. i've read the forums and realised i am not the first one having problems with toshiba power saver. i am even lucky to have it started successfully at the start-up! yet, it crashes at the shutdown. it's quite annoying. also, i have downloaded all latest updates from this site for my laptop, including even bios update.

i would love to have the opportunity to be able to download the bug-free version of toshiba power saver from this site, and i am sure many other people would appreciate the fixes too!

any feedback on that?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 & Power Saver shutdown error

If your Notebook is properly installed it should work well. All delivered software was tested. The only reason for your problem can be some additional software that you installed later.

It is also possible that it can be caused by some Antivirus application. Maybe is some application running in background? There are lots of reasons who can be responsible for this issue.

If you reinstall your Notebook from ?Recovery CD? it will work properly. It is very unjustifiable to write about some bug-free versions. I have a few times problems with OS but almost always after using some freeware.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop with PGP Encryption running Windows 7.

While using today it suddenly gave a blue screen of death and shut down. It refused to restart properly. When I restart it is does different things and it seems random.

1. Sometimes it goes to the PGP screen and then does one of the following:
a. won't let me type
b. refuses to accept my password
c. accepts the password and gets stuck on identification verification
d. accepts the password and then freezes on a black screen.

2. Sometimes it goes to a BIOS setup.

3. Sometimes it says "boot failed" and gets stuck. Sometimes it goes to the PGP screen (but messed up)

4. Sometimes it asks what to boot from (HDD, CD/DVD etc). I choose HDD and it goes around in a circle again.

ONE time it gave the option of Safe Mode and I wish to God I had chosen it and done a system restore. But alas it won't work.

Any help?!?

Answer:Can't start Toshiba satellite laptop

I should also mention that I saw on a forum where someone with a similar problem found that their hard drive had simply come loose. I opened it up and the hard drive indeed was loose, but I plugged it back in with the same problem continuing.

Have now an older model Toshiba Satellite Pro A120. I took it to the Repair shop (too far away) to fix. I didn't take my XP cd with me as I intended to install windows once he got it working. He (temporarily) instaled his XP copy to make sure the Notebook works again. But didn't put in the code registration.

So now I have to reload my XP. But I've never had to do so on a Notebook. Only desktops.

What action is needed to make it load from the windows CD?

Answer:toshiba satellite wont start

If you made a set of recovery discs for it using the Toshiba utility in Windows when your laptop was working okay (which you should have made when your laptop was new), boot your laptop from the first disc in the recovery set.If you didn't make a set of recovery discs, you should be able to order a set of backup media via this Toshiba web page: aware that using recovery discs/backup media will erase everything that's currently on the hard drive, so I hope you already made backup copies of your files. If you didn't, before using recovery media you should remove the drive and put it in an enclosure. Plug it in to a working computer and copy your files to a pen drive or to DVD/CD media. Then put the hard drive back in your laptop and proceed with recovery using the recovery discs. message edited by phil22

Hi All,

I have searched the posts and googled for ideas but am not coming up with any clears answers that are relative to my issue.

For some weeks now my laptop has been performing very slow and freezes when using quite frequently causing me to have to manually shut the unit off by holding the power button on for 10 seconds.

This ultimately led me to restoring my unit back to out of the box condition using the recovery partition. Over the next few days I updated windows, drivers, etc.

I did notice a very slight improvement in performance, however it still "felt" hot, and then froze again. I manually restarted and was given two options:

Windows startup repair (recommended)
Start windows normally

I selected the repair option only to get a message telling me that windows was unable to repair startup. The diagnosis and repair details gave me a root cause of:
A recent driver installation or upgrade may be preventing the system from starting.
Repair action: System files integrity check and repair.
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
Time taken: 529733 ms

I then went into system recovery options and selected windows memory diagnostics tool and selected restart now and check for problems.
Laptop restarted and began testing. Once testing was completed the unit attempted to restart but got hung up on a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite unable to start up

Hi, i'm no one, but I have a laptop. Possibilities:
1/ Overheated after long hours running. Google "SpeedFan" and measure the temp.
2/ Virus or malware or whatever people call it. Check your trusted-antivirus.
3/ 2 or more programs conflict with one another. You could be having 2 antiviruses or any 2 background running programs.
4/ Windows crashed. Try to backup important data, and re-install the Windows or start using a GNU/Linux in replace of Windows--it's clean and no viruses guaranteed.
Hope this will help.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that will not start. When I turn it on I get the message "we apologize, but Windows did not start successfully." I do not have a CD for XP, as it came installed. I have tried every option offered on this screen, i.e. Start Windows Normally, et cetera, and none of them work. Any suggestions, for a computer dummy, on how to cure this problem?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite laptop that will not start.

you will need to purchase an XP CD or get the original installation disc for your laptop. I suggest the former. Your registry or HD is corrupted.

I think we picked up a bug. My son was on and a pop up came up about a Java something and he clicked yes. The Windows defender freaked out saying we had a trojan virus. Then it crashed and burned. Now all it does is run the restart repair program which says it can not fix the problem. Anything I can do to get this running. It's my daughter's laptop and I would like to get it running. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

It is a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 7. I've tried the restart in safe mode and it did not help. Neither did the "last known good configuration" option.

I does this as it is trying to start windows and it the laptop did not come with a recovery disk.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Windows 7 will not start

Download and burn to CD BitDefender bootable AV scan, boot to run a Full Scan: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List. See if you are then able to boot into Win7 or Safe Mode with Networking to install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Next boot into System Recovery Options, accept any offered Repair. If Windows 7 doesn't start boot back in to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots. If repairs won't work from F8 Advanced Boot Options Repair console use WIn7 DVD Repair console or System Repair Disc - Create which don't depend on System files to run.

If this fails, boot back into DVD/REpair CD System Recovery Options to try System Restore, and SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If all fails you can attempt to copy out your files using DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then either run Factory Recovery if an OEM, Recovery Disks, or use a Windows 7 DVD to clean reinstall. Toshiba Recovery

Hi all, I have a laptop Toshiba C855-2CL and all of a sudden it won't start up!!

When only the battery is plugged in, I press the power button and a white led on the power indicator is flashing 5 times, after that nothing at all.

When I plug the power cord (with or without the battery, it's the same), the white led on the power indicator is flashing always plus the DVD drive keeps making a strange noise and flashing always.

I've tried all possible ways to fix it myself, by reading a couple of topics in this forum with no luck. Here's what I've tried so far:

1) Power drain by disconnecting everything & pressing the power button for 30". Then reconnect the battery and charger.
2) Step 1 + memory removed
3) Step 2 + MB battery cell removed
4) Step 1 + DVD Drive removed from the laptop
5) Step 1 + the use of another power adapter and cable

Any idea what else to try?

Hello, this is my first time using this site and I haven't the greatest knowledge when it comes to computers so excuse my ignorance

I own a Toshiba Satellite L450D-113, Windows 7 laptop (bought Christmas 2010), about one month ago I went online and the laptop blue screened on me saying it had to do a 'crash dump' etc. It then shut down. When I tried to start it, it began to over heat, puffing out air. I decided to leave it to cool. The next morning it kept restarting every time I got to the Toshiba start-up screen. I eventually was able to press F12 and get into the set-up screen where I just exited as I didn't want to mess with the code. It worked and the laptop started perfectly. Every few weeks when I would start the laptop it would restart itself but when i held down the on/off button it started without any problems, it appeared to me that it had overheated.

However this morning when I turned the laptop on I encountered another problem. This time it will start and go to the Toshiba start-up screen and it will then restart immediately, not giving me time to get to the safe mode start-up options or press F2 or F12. I use the computer a lot during the day and I recently bought an external hard drive and took most of my files off, I have approximately 42.3 GB free space. I also have no backup disc.

I haven't tried to start the laptop again for about an hour, so when I do start it again it will probably start without any problem. I'm leaving... Read more
