Question: Satellite C70D - blue screen 0xa0000001

Ever since I purchased my machine, I have been dogged with a blue screen and a reboot...once, however, I ha to take it back to the point of sale, because it just would not reboot.

The error screen in question is: 0xa0000001. What is going on?
I get this two - three times a night. how do I sort it? I'm not a geek and would like plain and simple instructions to understand....

Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D - blue screen 0xa0000001

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C70D - blue screen 0xa0000001

0xa0000001 is not a usual BSOD code. Usually its something like 0x000000xx

Does the BSOD display a system file?

Hello, I was hoping some of you geniuses out there could help me. I got my computer at the start of January off of Scan Computers UK. I had the blue screen 0xA0000001 from the start. I shipped it to them and they replaced my PSU (450w Corsair changed to 450w XFX) Then I had some days off no problems. But today, the blue screen returned. I tried updating my 260x drivers, but i got an error at the end of the install. I know, nothing ever goes right for me. From this link . I was told to install the drivers (i couldnt do that) then use a program called "search everything" to try and find the atikmdag.sy_ files on my system. Oh and one side note, I couldnt even use the amd auto detect because its broken and is detecting an APU instead of my 260x. AMD is such a mess, its unreal. Anyway, I could only find one atikmdag.sy_ file on my system, Im pretty sure I was supposed to find more, but I didnt. I think this is because of the error when installing drivers. Could anyone help me please? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello everybody,
brand new C70D two days old, if I want to look a Youtube video full screen after a few minutes, the C70D stops, blue screen with a message : your computer gets a problem, we collect informations ect.
After a restart the same problem comes again a few minutes later.
I have 14 days to accept this machine, but if it's a graphic card problem I prefer to return it to the vendor.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Message was edited: posting has been translated

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

I have since week 1 Series Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11E notebook,
Unfortunately, I am at the moment not really satisfied with the image.. game lags because my graphics.

My question is where can you find how much I consume from the 4 GB.

And where I can set that I consume more or less. since it is a separable memory yes.

My English is not perfect. hope someone understands.

Please reply

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

Hi there

Pretty much every time I turn on my laptop I am being asked to enter in the date, it defaults to 1.1.2015. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can overcome this issue? Just to be clear this happens right at the point of turning the computer, i.e. before Windows even starts to load up. It must be date/time settings of the device.

Thanks for your help in advance

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

Solved It myself, the problem was that the reserved partition for the system was only 100 MB !!!

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I have been having trouble with my computer quite a bit recently, I keep getting the blue screen of death and also when I take the power cord out of the laptop then the computer shuts down.

With the blue screen's I have just today re-installed windows to see what is happening. Still I keep getting the same stop code... one was something wrong with the NTFS, and the other one is the ram apparently.

Has anyone else had this problem with the M70 and what steps should I take? Or send it back to Toshiba?

What graphic card is installed in you notebook? Possibly a ATI X600?
I read in this forum that ff the AC Adapter is unplugged the system may lock and the display will turn dark. It seems to be related to a bug in the video driver.
You could try to disable the powerplay in the ATI mobility radeon x600 properties and don't set the CPU to a low speed in TPS in fixed mode.

But this will help only with a ATI X600 graphic card notebook

However, the contacting of the service partner in you country is always a good idea because the guys have great experience and could provide more details as common user like me and you.

Hi there. My laptop (satellite A50-111) stops randomly with blue screens. Sometimes when I boot up the computer, sometimes when I'm trying to play a video file of some sort, sometimes ... I cannot figure out why... The error messages are not consistent. They are different all the time (e.g.: SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION or PFN_LIST_CORRUPT or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA or something with IRQ LESS THAN EQUAL etc).

I suspect that the problem comes from the graphic card or from the RAM memory. This is because the file ialmdnt5.dll and ialmdev5.dll were mentioned in the error screens).

I ran a memory test from a bootable CD-ROM (memtest-86) and everything seems to be fine with the memory. However, the memory is not the original one. I made a memory update when I bought the laptop (the memory is TMC - 2x512 MB)

Any ideas what the problem could be. The problem is that I have these blue screens more and more often (I had them a few times before but now I have at least one a day)

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thank you.

Answer:Blue screen more and more often (Satellite A50-111)

Additional info: I ran the memory test from Microsoft (in addition to Memtest-86 mentioned above). Is it possible to have the RAM memory ok but it simply doesn't work WITH my Toshiba laptop? In other words, is anything special about the memory modules shipped with the laptop (which I dont have - because I upgraded the memory straight away when I bought the laptop). Thanks.

Another relevant info: I used the program "verifier" and this explain why I had the blue screens more often. I switch it off but I still have some blue screens (not as often as before). The most recent one: "... Stop 0x0000008E .... win32k.sys...." However, I rarely have the same error message

Hi all,
I have a serious problem in my satellite C660-1EL, I bought it before two weeks, I received it free dos and I installed WIN 7 Ultimate.
The problem is when I updated the win 7 using auto. Update and during installation these updates the notebook suddenly shut down. When I turn it on again it gave me a blue screen with message "{color:#ff0000}irql_not_less_or_equal{color}" during booting.
I tried more time with safe mode but still give me blue screen before the win. booting.
I tried to install new system by using original WIN 7 CD, but before the setup extracting files the blue screen appear again.
I checked the RAM, HD, CD/DVD, in another laptop and it worked ok.
Also I tried to install WIN 7 by using USB flash boot and Win XP PRO from CD, but still the same blue screen appear before the setup copy the win. files.
Please help me, this laptop is brand new.
First the Toshiba Booting Screen disappear , but when I removed the RAM and installed again it appear and I entered the setup by pressing F2 and restore the bios to defaults, but still problem exist.
{color:#ff0000}Sorry for my language{color}.

Answer:Blue screen in Satellite C660-1EL

Hmmmmm...... strange. Try to remove one RAM module and check if the same will happen again.

This notebook is designed for Windows7 and there should not be any problem using original Microsoft Win7 installation disc.

Hi there

I must express my overwhelming frustration with my satellite M70 laptop as I have it for more than a year now(warranty expired) and almost from the get go it had a problem in wich a blue screen appeared and the pc reboots...from the error report it is a problem with the graphics card and/or display driver.

I did take it to my local retailer for repair but the problem still remains(gone there 3 TIMES! each time waiting for more than a month for repair!and they did send it to toshiba service...)... as the problem doesnt happen *all the time* it seems they just didnt notice or something :(.

I did update all the drivers but it had no effect on the problem...

So now what?? Do I send it to repair and they finally replace the graphics card...but I pay??!!

This is all very upsetting for me as you might imagine...

And know its seems to be happening more and more...and many times the computer won?t reboot after the just stays black.

Now almost every time i turn it on it wont boot...the fan will just work for a few seconds and thats it.

Im almost certain the graphics card is defective...can I replace it at home? Argh this just feels wrong, the computer had this problem almost from the start and I sent it for repair...they just did not fix it...I shouldnt have to pay to fix it as I sent it for repair 3 times while it still had the warranty...

Please reply I'm desesperate and have no idea what to do

Answer:Sometimes Blue screen appears on Satellite M70

Hi Joao

> So now what?? Do I send it to repair and they finally replace the graphics card...but I pay??!!

No! Back up all your important data and reinstall operating system using delivered recovery media. After doing this watch carefully if the problem persists. I have the same notebook over one year and it runs perfectly. I have noticed BSOD just two times but both times after installing some stupid shareware programs.

I have removed it from the system and everything was OK again. Please make ?clean? OS installation and post again if the BSOD occurs again.

Answer:Satellite P30 - Blue screen after reinstall OS

This looks like a hardware issue. You should check the HDD and RAM.
With the Drive Fitness Test you can test your HDD. Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can the HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.
Memtest86 is a diagnostic tool to check the RAM. There you can also download a CD image.
It?s easy to use. Run the test 3-4 hours and then you will see if the RAM has some errors.

Good luck!

When I start up the computer I get a blue screen with an error message before I can see my computers background. But I can successfully start it up in safe mode.

The error message reads:
A problem as been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If it appears again follow these steps.:

Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hard ware manufacturer. In particular, run a memory check, and check for faulty or mismatched memory. Try changing video adapters.

Disable or remove any newly instaled hardware and drivers. Disable or remove any newly installed software. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components. restart your computer , press F8 to select advanced startup options and select safe mode.

My laptop toshiba satellite p755-10c was restarted and covered many times this week with a blue screen of death! Does anyone know what is the problem?

Answer:Blue screen on Satellite P755-10c

BSOD can be cause by hardware problem or serious software issue.

I think you should firstly recover the notebook using the Toshiba HDD recovery or the Recover disk which you have created as described in user manual.

If the BSOD would still appears, try to update the display driver and BIOS (if newer version is available)

Of course the BSOD could appear also if the RAM starts to malfunctions or if the internal temperature increases to a higher level and affects the internal parts.

i hope someone can help me on this: I have not changed anything on my A60 but suddenly i get a bluescreen saying that there is a problem with the atidvag.dll (?).

I can only start the computer in asaved mode now. through google i found some other users who had the same problem and that a new bios version might help. when i try to install the newest bios version from the toshiba website it gives me a message that a it failed to load the driver ...

thanks to anyone helping me with this, because i do not know what to do at all.

Answer:Blue Screen after booting on Satellite A60

As far as I can remember the atidvag.dll file is a part of the graphic driver.
So everything seems like a graphic driver or graphic card would malfunction.

The best way to find out what could be wrong is a usage of the Toshiba recovery CD!

But if it is not possible to install the OS from the recovery CD then you should contact the ASP in your country.
Maybe the graphic chip is dead

For 4 days while quiting from a game (Knight Online), this blue screen has appeared:

About 5 secs later of appearing the screen computer has restarted.

DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Adapter String: GeForce 7600
Bios Information: Version

and some information about computer:

Notebook: SATELLITE A100-599
Model number: PSAARE-01W0257Z
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

Answer:Blue Screen on my Satellite A100-599

did you checked if your RAM is alright? I suggest you to make a RAM test with "memtest86" or with "prime95" so you can be sure that your RAM or CPU is either faulty or not.
And it would be useful to make a bios update to the latest version, because this sometimes helps.

A last question: How many times did you get this error and how long your machine was alright till this error appeared the first time.

When I attempted to turn off my computer all of 10 hours ago it took a great deal of time, I pressed the characteristic 'ctrl-alt-delete' but that did not seem to help. It eventually went through the ritual of saying 'windows is logging off' but then I was left with a blue screen in which it says 'windows is shutting down' and my computer has stayed like that for the last 10 hours.
Is there some way manually to override the system and turn it off?

I've got a Toshiba Satellite M70 that displays the Blue Screen of Death directly upon startup. It reads an error of 0x000000ED stating an unmountable error as the specific problem.

Unfortunately, I've no Windows XP CD to restore my computer. I do have the Toshiba Product Recovery CD, but that seems like it will simply format my computer, and I have important data I absolutely do not want to delete from my hard drive.

I cannot start in safe mode; Blue Screen of Death appears straightaway upon startup. If I try to get int through F8, Advanced Options appear but after selecting system restore it goes back to BSOD. I've also tried burning an ISO file for recovery, and the computer went into Windows Setup but hangs on "Setup is starting Windows".

Any idea what the trouble could be? And how can I fix this problem without deleting any info on my computer?

Answer:Blue Screen of Death and no XP CDs - Satellite M70

The best option would be to remove the HDD and connect it to another PC using a USB 2.5" HDD Adapter. The HDD will appear as another Drive letter (E: for example) and you will be able to copy your data. Then you put the HDD back in and run Recovery.

If its simply a File System corruption problem, you could try running CHKDSK /F to fix it. You will need a retail version of the XP CD to do a CHKDSK from the Repair Console. Or you can create a Live Bootable XP CD which loads XP directly off a CD (Google BartPE) and run CHKDSK.

Otherwise the HDD may have bad sectors. You can use the Advanced test in Hitachi DFT to check the surface. But you should back up your data first, the HDD could get worse if you stress it out.

My mother just bought a new computer. We started to configure it (I hope it's the correct english word) for the first time. After a couple of minutes the operating system stopped working.
I explain ( I am not very good at this ^^ ).

I turned it on, the computer asked a few things like which color we would like it to be, give a name to the computer. And then it aked to be connected to the internet. I 've tried to do that but it didn't worked.
So now I just have a big blue screen and nothing I can do. I can't go back to the first step, and I can't go forward because there is nothing but this big blus screen.

Can anyone help or have any idea of what should I do ?

Thank you for your help

Press power button and hold it down to switch notebook off. Start it again and I hope you will be able to continue with Windows setup.

When I start my satellite A65 a blue screen comes up saying "a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer"
it says to check if I have adequate disk space or to either disable or update the driver if a driver was mentioned in the stop message... or to check bios updates...
I can type out everything it says if I need to, but that the jist

Does this sound familiar to anybody?
It might be because I didn't update enough when it told me to.
It won't start, not even on safe mode, and it won't let me restore, which I would be perfectly willing to do at this point.

help, please

Answer:Satellite A65 won't start and I get only blue screen!

Usually the Blue screen of death happens due to the serious software problem or due to the hardware malfunction.
In your case it sounds more like something wrong with the hardware. Why, because you are not able to restore the notebook from the delivered Toshiba recovery CD!

What to do buddy? I think the notebook must be checked.
Try to contact an ASP in your country and ask for the further handling!

Good luck

Dear friends,

From 2 months next to the date when I bought the notebook I have saw a blue screen in the start up or in the first five minutes than the O.S. start up.

In other circunstance, I don't see any boot message and any sound message and in the start up the notebook si blocked with black screen.
The customer support in my region of toshiba didn't know in this years any possible solutions at this problem and the warrantly is finished and I can't use my PC.
Do you know which I can see to resolve this problem?
In the site HP for other notebook I can find a short list of possible couses and possible solutions (Bios, HD, and so on).

Can you help me?

Answer:Blue screen on Satellite P30-130 at the start up

Bluescreens can have different reasons so it?s not easy what is causing this problem. Normally Bluescreen related to drivers or faulty hardware (RAM or HDD).

But have you tried an external monitor now? Maybe the internal monitor is only faulty so you get a black screen.
Check this!!

I don?t know what you mean with customer support exactly but on the Toshiba website you can find a list of all authorized service provider. Give them a call and explain your situation. They can help you because they can order all original Toshiba spare parts.

Good luck! :)

My 10 days old Satellite U300-14D is experiencing the Blue screen problem frequently. I noticed that attaching a file from my desktop to my exchange server email triggers the blue screen.

The blue screen gives different complaints : once its RTL86.sys and then another time it's the Touch pad driver, but in every error there's always the top message IRQL_Not_LESS_OR_EQUAL "Something like that" what can I do.

Should I downgrade to XP or it's a hardware problem?
Please help. I use it for work and it's a big liability having it crashing all the time this way.

Answer:Satellite U300 - Blue screen

Well, what to say?. It?s very strange that different drivers and system files cause this error message.
For me it looks like an software issue but I?m not 100% sure. It?s only my own personal suggestion?

So, it would be very interesting to know if the same error happens running Win XP!
In such case we could find out if it?s a Vista issue or a hardware problem?

Both cases, I got the message that it maybe a video hardware error. I searched for solutions electronically, since in both ocassions I reported the technical details to MS.
Please as I'm sure you understand, I'm very furstrated by the whole situation. I would appreciate any kind of help, in order to establish the cause and a possible solution.

Answer:Blue Screen Of Death on A New Satellite A500-18Q

I googled around and found many forums where people discuss about this issue and it has probably something to do with graphic card.
Maybe you should back up all your important data and install operating system again using HDD recovery option (F8). Test it few days without installing some additional software.

If problem occurs again maybe you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased this laptop and it runs wonderfully I have no complaints on the actual laptop itself.
The only problem is that twice now it has blue screened on wake up from stand by or sleep.

Now it has went to sleep on plenty more occassions than this without any problems waking up.
I don't know why it has randomly did this twice.

I didn't quite catch the error but it was something about HD driver I think.
I'll get it and report it here next time it happens. I was wondering if it is something to do with the facial recognition software?

Thus why the error message is about the HD video driver (if it is).
Any one else having similar problems with any of there laptops?

PS: I have updated drivers on Toshiba support site.

Thanks for the help

Answer:Satellite L650-108 blue screen on wake up

Hi Scott

Have you noticed this started to happen after some Microsoft updates installation? I had similar problem on my older Satellite. I was not able to fix it but I am 100% sure some Microsoft update is responsible for this.

What do you think about all this? To be honest I don?t think some driver update will fix this.

1. My notebook is a Satellite L20-101. It worked properly until yesterday when i reinstalled the system (from recovery cd) after 3 years. I updated bios to version 1.70 (from toshiba website). The conexant audio devices failed to be recognised and if i run setup from last audio drivers (sound-20080604145033) it fixes the problem but when restarting the system and login as administrator i get a blue screen. Any help pls?

2. Since the LAN adapter is working, there is a message for installing a driver for a network device!

3. When the system starts i get an error 0X57 for toshiba power saver . Even when i reinstalled ver 7.03.02.I from toshiba website the problem remains.

Thank you in advance

Answer:Satellite L20-101 - Sound driver causes blue screen

Hi maxco,

Regarding sound driver I don?t know why you get a blue screen with newest version but I would recommend using the preinstalled version from Toshiba recovery disk. So try a system restore to earlier point.

LAN driver and Toshiba Power Saver you can download from official website. Reinstallation of these tools should work!

I have Satellite A300-16W 21 months and so far my cooler was changed, hard disk also, display was dead (had to be changed to), motherboard was, then I had problem with charging of battery and that had to be fixed too. Now, whole system cracked, blue screen etc. So far, this computer was almost 160 days for services and i'm realy dissapointed of toshiba because it is the worst computer I ever had. I lost very important data twice because this computer.

What to do now? I think it would be realy fair for toshiba to give me computer of the same price I paid for this one because it is obvious that this one has and it will have many major problems and failures.

Answer:Satellite A300-16W - Now blue screen on system

Hello Milosh

I?m so sorry to hear you had so many different issues with your Satellite A300. I?m also Satellite A300 (A300-1LI) owner and my is about 1,5 year old. Probably I had more luck than you and until now I didn?t had any problems. From the first day I use it with WXP and about one year now I use dual OS.

On second partition I have installed Win7. Both operating systems run stabile and without problems.
What to say my friend? We can discuss about everything here, and write our own opinions but mostly it will not work in real life.

Your notebook has 3 months warranty left and if you check eBay you will see that you can get good money for this machine. I have noticed that people really love buying used Toshiba notebooks on eBay. You can sell your Satellite and buy other and newer notebook model.

In the future be careful with all your data. It is recommended to make back-up on some external device. OK you had bad experience with your Satellite notebook but it can happen with other notebooks too.

Hey guys,

I have a Satellite A500/026 bought a couple of months ago and it has windows 7 64bit running on it. Everything was running fine until a couple of weeks ago when all of a sudden it freezes and a blue screen comes up saying there has been a display driver issue.

That happened a couple of times but now the blue screen doesn't come up at all and just randomly freezes every now and again. Any help would be appreciated!!

Answer:Satellite A500-026 - Keeps freezing and blue screen

Have you already tried reinstalling the display if you get a BSOD about this driver? In your case I would check the Toshiba website for an update and install it.

Furthermore can you please post the exact BSOD code that you get?

In worst case you have to reinstall the whole OS or it?s a hardware issue? :(

Hi all.

I'm started to get really desperate here!! I've just bought my new Satellite A100-211 and now I want to install my own copy of Windows XP Professional (since the notebook ships with XP Home). But, when I try to boot from my Win Xp Pro CD (with no SP1 or SP2 integrated), i get a blue STOP screen just as the setup application reaches the "Setup is starting Windows" phase!! The STOP message states something about a file named "pci.sys".

I don't know what is wrong or how to install XP Pro!! It should be so simple! I even tried getting the SATA drivers from intel and load them at the windows XP Pro install setup (with F6) with a floppy, but I still get the same blue screen at the same stage of the setup!!

Can anybody PLEASE help me??? Can anyone explain how can I install Win XP Pro on this notebook???

Thanks very much in advance!! I'm really really freaking out with this

Answer:Blue screen when installing Win XP Pro on Satellite A100-211

Did you get this error message?
"stop error 0x7E in Pci.sys"

I have found information on the Microsoft website that you need the latest Microsoft service pack.

I'm trying to help my inlaws with their Satellite Pro SPA10. I had set this up for them a few months ago and it was running really well.
Now it restarts about two seconds past the "use last good configuration" etc. screen, gets to this screen again then restarts immediately ad infinitum, never pausing on the error mesage for long enough to see what it says.
I managed to get it to boot from the windows XP home disc and got as far as the repair or continue with installation screen. When I asked the computer to do either it crashes to blue screen almost immediately. The error message is
*** STOP: 0x000000c5 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8082B98B)

This is beyond my level of expertise, can anyone help?

Answer:Blue screen error message on Satellite Pro A10

It is not easy to say what is wrong there and what your in-laws have done with this unit. Try to start the unit in safe mode pressing F8 at the start up. When unit starts check a little bit if some strange software is installed.

If there is no important data I recommend you to install OS again. On this way you will be sure it is not because of software. If problem persists then is the whole issue is more complicated and there can be some hardware fault.

At the moment I can not tell you more. Try to make ?clean OS installation? and post again about results.

BSOD is always an painful issue because it can be related to different reasons;
It can be a hardware issue but it can be also an serious software problem.
So it?s not easy to say what cause this exactly?

I had an BSOD in the past because my RAM was faulty.
I have replaced it and since than it?s ok.

The friend of mine has had an BSOD issue too. It was caused by graphic card driver.
Graphic card driver update helped.

The high temperature can be a reason as well? so check if the temp is not too high.

The new OS installation might be a option too? but this is your own decision?

My Satellite keeps getting the BSOD, not every day but frequent enough to be annoying.
Usually this happens after i wake the computer from sleep, or when I am on the Web, most often after waking from sleep.

I have cleaned the registry files but on searching the net generally have found that it is thought that the wireless driver myabe an issue. I certainly had no problem when running Vista, this has only started since upgrading to Win7 32bit.
I did the upgrade as per the instructions from Toshiba.

The last message I got before shutdown was BAD POOL .... Couldn't get the rest itshutdown so fast.

My current wireless adaptor is an Intel wireless WiFi link 4965AGN, I have been to the Intel site and their software which determines my devices and whether I need an upgrade, tells me there is an upgrade for this adaptor, both software upgrade and driver.

If I check the driver through device manager, it tells me the driver is uptodate. The Toshiba website tells me there are no downloads for this computer.

The question is who do I believe, is the wifi causing my BSOD, if so should I upgrade?

This is the report I got on reboot

To be honest I?m not sure if an WLan driver could cause this issue?
I think it?s not WLan driver but however, here you can find the latest WLan drivers:
Try to update this?

Cleaning registry was a good idea. I do this always using CCLeaner? I think it?s a good too and important is that it?s freeware.

If you will not notice any improvements, then a new OS installation might be a option for you?

Hello everyone,

I've owned a Satellite A500-1EN for a year with no problems at all until some days ago. When tuning it on it gave me a blue screen of death, and after 10 secs it turned all blue, so I wasn't able to read the error.

I noticed performance decreased since that happened. Especially when playing games or HD movies, the image and sound will freeze every few seconds. This happens in both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I made a fresh install of both, but the problem persists.

I scanned the hard drive and memory for errors, but there wasn't any. Cant someone give me some advice, please?

Thank you

Answer:Re: Satellite A500-1EN - Slow after blue screen

> This happens in both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I made a fresh install of both, but the problem persists.
This would mean the problem is hardware related and operating system installation seems to be ok but it could be everything and it?s not easy to say what part is affected.

Some parts you can check yourself like HDD and RAM.
With the Drive Fitness Test you can test your HDD. Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.
Memtest86 is a diagnostic tool to check the RAM. There you can also download a CD image.
It?s easy to use. Run the test 3-4 hours and then you will see if the RAM has some errors.

If both tests cannot find an error it must be another problem like mainboard or CPU. For such a diagnostic you should contact an authorized service provider. They can help you to get rid of this problem. You can find a full list of the guys here: > Support & Downloads > Find an ASP

My elderly father has a Toshiba Satellite C850-1MC Laptop - (Intel Pentium B960 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" HD LED, DVDRW, Intel HD, Webcam, Bluetooth, Windows 8 64bit).

When he starts the laptop the initial screen appears for a short period then goes to a blue screen with only the mouse pointer showing (no error codes appear).

If when on the initial screen he quickly presses a button it will go to the welcome screen for a very short period and then go to the blue screen as above.

Anyone got any ideas how to sort?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C850 - blue screen on start-up

I don't know what the problem is and why this happen but if possible recovery your notebook and set it to ?factory settings? again. Please test it one more time and send some feedback.

We can speculate what the problem can be but best test you can do is to set notebook to ?factory settings? again. Recovery image is tested and if there is no some hardware issue everything shuld work properly again.

I just purchased a brand new laptop yesterday and I've notice that there is a slight blue tint to the screen particularly noticeable with whites, I just wondered if this is something I should be concerned about or whether it's just how the screen is with these laptops? I compared it with my PC monitor and it's definitely there just slight.

Answer:Satellite C660-1J2 Blue tint on the screen

In my opinion you should contact your local dealer and check if the same happen on other models.
To be honest I don?t understand what do you mean exactly with this ?blue tint? but on my both notebooks screen is absolutely clear.

Maybe you should ask for replacement.
