Preferred Solution: RAM compatibility with Satellite M70-354

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: RAM compatibility with Satellite M70-354

According notebook specification for this old machine compatible RAM modules are:
DDR2-400/533 256MB (PA3389U-1M25)
DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)
DDR2-400/533 1GB (PA3411U-1M1G)

If you want to use max supported 2 GB I recommend you to use 2 x 1GB (PA3411U-1M1G).
These modules are tested and 100% compatible.

I am planning to get my memory module upgraded from current 2 X 256 (DDR 166 MHz). I wanted to know what are my options. Can I install DDR2 RAM module each of size 512 MB.
I am not sure if DDR2 is supported for my notebook.

Can anybody please help.

Thanks a lot.

Answer:Satellite M30X-113 - RAM Compatibility

I have found follow information:
Your notebook can be upgraded up to 2GB RAM.
Compatible memory modules have follow part number:
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

DDR2 memory modules are used with newer notebook models and I believe you can not use them with your older Satellite M30X.

I bought a Toshiba L750-1RJ laptop and I would like to know what CPUs are compatible with my laptop?

Thanks advanced,

Answer:Satellite L750-1RJ - CPU compatibility

As far as I know the Satellite L750 series was equipped with different CPU units.
The supported CPUs are port of the Intel Arrandale Mobile Processor family.
The supported CPUs are:

Intel Core i7-620M
Intel Core i5-540M
Intel Core i5-520M
Intel Core i5-450M
Intel Core i3-360M
Intel Core i3-350M
Intel Core i5-430M
Intel Core i3-330M
Intel Pentium P6100
Intel Pentium P6000
Intel (988P) P4500

But note: usually CPU upgrades are not supported by any of the notebook manufacturers. So in case you want to perform such upgrade, this is always your own risk.

Hi there :)

I have a Satellite 4090CDS laptop. Its cd-rom (Teac CD-224E) does not work anymore and I would like to replace it with a DVD/CDRW COMBO DRIVE. I had a look at ebay but I do not know what kind of combo drive would be compatible with my laptop and I did not find eny info on net which helps me with that. I also tried to open the laptop but I gave up half way because I was afraid I might break something. again I searched the internet to find my laptop's schematics or some sort of guide about opening it but I could not find any.

Then I was thinking to buy and external USB combo drive but I found out that my laptop does not support booting from USB and I would have difficulty if it crashes and I need to install a new OS. Any suggestions ? :)
thanks very much in advance,

Answer:Satellite 4090CDS cd-rom compatibility

As far as I know it?s possible to boot from the external drive but you need a compatible and supported device. I have found a compatible external DVD/CDRW COMBO DRIVE like this one:
It should be possible to boot from this drive via PCMCIA interface.

Well, generally the external drives are more expensive as a internal drives. In this case I would recommend to bye a internal. Unfortunately it was not able for me to find one but you can ask the Toshiba service partner for a compatible part. He can order the drive for you.

I want to upgrade ram memory in my Toshiba C55-A-1JL. Standard module is Hynix PC3L dual voltage 4GB. But on slot i saw text "1.5V". I bought Kingston 4GB module with identical parameters as Hynix module, only voltage is different. Kingston module is only 1.5V voltage.

My question is: what voltage supports mainboard in this notebook? Can i safely use this Kingston module with original Hynix ram module?

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1JL - ram module compatibility

Standard module is Hynix PC3L dual voltage

This means that the module supports 1.35V or 1.5V

Can i safely use this Kingston module with original Hynix ram module?

In worst case if you use not fully compatible RAM module, the notebook will not boot up… try it out

Dear Forum members!

I have a Toshiba L500-1XR (PSLJHE-001001HU) device.

Its originally shipped with core i3-330M (C2) CPU.
I'd like to upgrade it to i5-520M or better CPU -which same socketed, and have same power consumption.

From this i5 CPU, there are 2 steppings: c2, k0
My CPU have C2 stepping.

My question is:
Is BIOS 2.00 supports K0 steppings CPU's also, or - downloadable newest(?) BIOS 2.10 supports K0 stepping, or not at all?

So, can I use all, same socketed CPU's, or C2 stepping's only?

I didn't find any relevant information on internet.
Where can I find more information about the BIOS changes?

Answer:Satellite L500-1XR CPU compatibility

As I see, 51+ person opened my question, but, still no answer.

IF is it so difficult question, please, provide me with an idea, where, how can I get this information?

I want to upgrade my Mat****a combo drive to a DVD burner,I have tried the NEC 6650 and SONY DW-Q58A, the machine does not recognize either. Can anyone out there recommend one that will work?....thanks

Answer:Satellite A40 burner compatibility

Hi Ross,

I replaced the combo drive in my A30 with a Mat****a UJ825S many months ago with no problem. Typically you can use any DVD burner of the same physical size as long as its configuration matches your existing combo drive. Optical drives can be one of three configurations :-

1. Master

2. Slave

3. Cable Select (C/Sel)

Your existing combo drive will be one of the above and your new drive must be the same or else it will not be recognised.

Sadly, most re-sellers don't specify what configuration their drives are so you may well need to check with them first or else check with the manufacturer to find out.

My original hard drive has died and I'm finding it very hard to get information about which internal hard drives will be compatible replacements, especially as Toshiba offers none for sale through this site.

The old drive seems to be IDE (or possibly EIDE). Would an ATA100 drive be compatible? PATA?

Thanks for any information.

Answer:Re: Satellite P10 304 - Hard Drive Compatibility

This forum provides many useful threads about the HDD upgrade on the P10 Satellite.

But here is my suggestion;
The notebook uses a 60GB 4200rpm IDE (ATA-5) (Ultra-ATA/66)
The controller uses ATA-5 and in my opinion for example the ATA-6 (Ultra-ATA/100) HDD will work too but possibly not with 100% performance.

I am thinking of upgrading my Toshiba Satellite C655 with a faster CPU and am wondering if anyone can tell me which CPU's are compatible with this laptop? At this time it has a AMD V140 Processor 2.30ghz. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S50851. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 CPU compatibility

As a general rule with laptops, CPU upgrades don't really give decent increases in performance. Increasing system memory to max allowed and installing a bigger faster hard drive will give you the most "bang for the buck"...

I took my Satellite L25 into the shop to have it fixed and when I got it home its fine, except I think the shop gave me back the wrong AC adapter because my machine does not recognize it (no lights). The one they gave me back is a model number API1AD43. Can anyone tell me the correct part#/model of ac adapter I should have?

Answer:AC adapter compatibility of Satellite L25-S1192

Hi buddy,

they gave you the wrong AC-adapter. You need an AC with an output of 19V with 6.3A and when googling for the AC you actually have, I found that the adapter has 19V but just 4.7A output. Thats not enough ampere for your machine so you have to go back to that shop and ask them for a AC-adapter with an output of 19 VOLT with 6.3 Ampere.

Thats it. ;)

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 screen compatibility

The problem is that Satellite Pro 6100 was delivered with four different displays.
14.1' (1024x768) TFT colour display,

15.1' (1400x1050) TFT colour display,
15.1' (1600x1200) TFT colour display

I have found a information that a P000334230 (LTN150X4-L01) screen is compatible with your unit.

But I recommend asking the Toshiba service partner in you country for compatible screens.

I bought Satellite M50D-A-10D notebook with preinstalled windows 8.1. I want to remove Windows 8.1 and I want to install Windows 7. Is it possible?

I found drivers for Windows 7 64 bit on Toshiba web site. In my opinion this means installing Windows 7 is possible. It is logical. My question is how? I tried it to install from USB device, but installing was unsuccesful because system was missing a driver. Driver for what? AHCI? Or what? Driver for ahci, usb, touchpad has been downloaded, but it wasnt missing driver. Another problem was touchpad didnt work for that time.

I am fully puzzled, What is problem?

Answer:Satellite M50D-A-10D and Windows 7 compatibility

I?ve checked Toshiba download page and can confirm what you wrote. Your notebook model is fully supported for Windows 7 64bit.
I have had the same issue on my Portege model and Windows 7 installation was possible after SATA driver load. After SATA driver load HDD was ?visible? for Windows 7 setup.

Check it out please.

Create some folder on the desktop, download AHCI driver and extract the files in this folder. Check all files. I hope there you can find folder called ?sbdrv? or something like this.
There you should find SATA driver. When you start Windows setup and HDD is not visible load this driver from USB stick and I hope you will be able to continue Win7 installation.

Please post some feedback.

One more thing: I hope you have created recovery media before you have started to install Win7.

My laptop's keyboard has broken down and I have some trouble finding a keyboard for the specific model.

Is there anyone who can tell me other toshiba models that use the same keyboard? More than that, can i install a backlit keyboard as in s50 series (as i noticed that there is a connector on my L50 for the backlit power source) even though it hadn't come this way in the first place.

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite L50-A 1D9 - replacement keyboard compatibility

Hi d3mon3l

The compatible keyboard can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP (authorized service provider)
But also other keyboards which meet the same hardware requirements would be compatible.

It seems to be a common A4+10key tile standard black (Toshiba Standard Key layout A4+10key type) with an keyboard height of 4.15mm and 1.5mm key stroke.

I guess you could find such keyboard in internet provided by different computer online dealers.

My dvd-rw is no longer working and needs to be replaced. I began this venture by heading directly to the Toshiba website to order my replacement drive from them. The link Toshiba provided to order my replacement is a dead link. Given no option to replace my drive through Toshiba, I had no choice but to search elsewhere. I eventually did find a dvd-rw, identical make and model but alas, I have the dreaded IDE #2 error upon bootup.

I have read that replacing Toshiba cd drives through 3rd party vendors is not an easy thing to do. It seems that the drives are set to Master by default but Toshiba sets them to Slave, meaning a drive with the default settings will not be compatible. However it has been suggested that it might be possible to work around this by flashing the drive's firmware.

My dvd-rw drive is broken and Toshiba can't fix it, so how can I fix it instead?

Answer:Satellite M35 - DVD Drive Replacement and Compatibility

I don?t know what you mean under ?fix it? but it is known that defective optical disc drive will not be repaired but exchanged. Usually in user?s manuals document there is list of all compatible optical disc drives. I don?t know if the same situation is in US user?s manuals (I presume M35 is US notebook model).

For Satellite M30 you can use
Panasonic UJDA750
Toshiba SD-R6012
Panasonic UJ-811

- Is it possible to install 4GB 1333MHz CL7 memory module aside of original 2GB 1066MHz CL7 memory module?

It must not be Toshiba RAM but best thing is to use Toshiba RAMs because Toshiba offer tested high quality modules.

I have Toshiba Satellite U300-130 laptop (PSU30E-03D01GPL) and I need to replace my original HDD drive (Toshiba MK2035GSS).

I thought about buying SDD drive this time. Kingston V300 120 GB or Plextor M5S 128 GB

Are they compatible with my laptop?
With dimensions it?s no problem but what about interface?

Kingston has SATA Rev. 3.0 (6Gb/s) ? with backwards compatibility to SATA Rev. 2.0.
Toshiba HDD MK2035GSS has ATA-7/SATA1.0a/SATAII1.2 interface.

Does my laptop supports SATA II and is it going to work with Kingston V300 without any problems?

Answer:Satellite U300-130 - new SSD drive compatibility

Usually you can be able to use any SATA 2.5? SSD drive.
I upgraded my notebook with an 250GB SSD Samsung 840 series.
But I don?t get the full performance since my notebook?s controller supports only SATA II (3 Gb/s) However, it was not problem to recognize the SSD drive.

Hello dear colleagues,

As the title says, I have a Toshiba Satellite L755-128 code PSK30E. It has a 2nd generation Intel i5-2410M processor.

Laptop running fine and all, but I recently got a nice deal on a newer laptop, with overall lower specs, but a better processor. It is a DeII Latitude E5530, with a 3rd gen Intel i5-3230M.

Going on Intel's site, I saw that basically both processors have the same TDP of 35W, and same package size, both run on HT and have dual cores, the only difference being that the architecture changed from 32nm to 22nm and the frequency is higher.

Also, 2nd gen supports 1066/1333 MHz memory, and 3rd gen supports 1333/1600 MHz. My memory is 1333.

Of course, as you guessed, I intended to swap the processors between the two laptops. Upgraded the BIOS on both of them, then replaced processors, re-assembled, and at start-up, surprise: The DeII recognized the older version of i5, ran fine and all, but the Toshiba didn't.

It just opened when I pressed the ON button, but the screen remained black. Then I pressed again the button, it shut down as normally. (I repeat, BIOS already upgraded, as somebody recommended). I disassembled again the Satellite, checked if everything is in place, and second start-up time still the same.

Then I got annoyed and swapped back the processors onto their original Laptops. And, both of them are running just fine.

So if somebody came across this problem could you please advise if you managed to sort it o... Read more

Answer:Satellite L755-128 - CPU compatibility issue

I don?t know any notebook manufacturer who would officially support an CPU upgrade.
Mostly the CPU upgrades on notebooks are your own decision and nobody could provide you an confirmation that an notebook with new CPU would work or run properly.

Indeed many people try to update the CPUs and in many cases this works? also on Toshiba notebooks.

But there are some important notes:

1) you have to ensure that the chipset on the motherboard would support new CPU. In case it doesn?t, you cannot use it

2) even if new CPU would be supported by chipset, there is still open question about the BIOS support. BIOS is modified for each notebook series and it could be possible that some CPUs would not be fully compatible or supported by BIOS.

As you see, the CPU upgrade is not very easy and it?s no matter that another notebook which was equipped with the same CPU as the L755 supports the other CPU? there are much more factors which could affect such upgrade.

Answer:Satellite Pro L870-15E and missing Windows 10 compatibility

How come that a laptop which is neither so old nor so cheap is not considered to be compatible with Windows 10?

I guess that in this user to user forum nobody will be able to answer this question but from my point of few every notebook / computer manufacturer have to decide which models would get the further software support…
Toshiba still releases lot of notebook models within a short period of time and in my opinion it’s not easy to provide support for all notebook series… so somewhere it’s necessary to perform a clean cut …

But you can still install the Windows 10 on your notebook and I’m quite sure that the system will work flawlessly but probably some of the notebook features could not be available due to missing software…

Generally speaking you can install such driver BUT you have to check also the graphic chip and other devices like for example WLan card.
Many notebooks are equipped with different graphic chip or different WLan card so in such case you have to pay attention to these differences.

I want to replace original HDD in my Satellite A100-811 with an SSD drive.
What are the parameters to search for? Can I get just about any 2.5" SATA II SSD available on the market?
Is Intel X25-M G2 Mainstream SATA SSD 160Gb compatible?
Are there any Toshiba recommendations?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite A100 - SSD Disk compatibility and recommendations?

A100 support SATA HDD controller.
Usually it should be possible to use the notebook in connection with a SATA SSD drive.
But I read also that not all notebooks can handle the SSD drive correctly.
In some cases the SSD drive firmware update could help.
Therefore I cannot say for sure that new SSD drive would work correctly and that BIOS would recognize the SSD drive properly.
I think you will need test the SSD drive?
You could order one from Amazon and could test it, in worst case you could send it back?
I did this also with some RAM modules which didn?t work in my notebook.

Please post some details if such upgrade was successful or not? it would be interesting to know if you can use it in your A100 because I would like to use a SSD drive too?

I installed XP in dual boot mode with Vista pre-installed on a Satellite L350-20J.

Since I couldn't find the appropriate files for the F6 process in the Matrix Storage Manager (in the L350 Toshiba driver section for XP, you get an EXE file) to use at xp install time, in the BIOS I switched the SATA AHCI parameter to compatibility. The installation went fine.

Once XP was installed, when I tried to run the Matrix Storage Manager driver, I got the message "This computer does not meet minimum requirements for installing the software". On the other hand, the chipset utility was installed without a hitch.

When I switched back the "compatibilty" parameter to AHCI in the BIOS, the system would not boot properly. It would direct me to multiple choice screen for Safe mode, etc.

How can I get into SATA mode at this stage?

Answer:Satellite L350 - AHCI vs compatibility mode

You cannot do this. If you change to AHCI mode you must install WXP again.
Simple switching will not work.

I have tested it on my Satellite A300. I have installed WXP in compatibility mode. With AHCI mode I got blue screen every time when I wanted to start WXP.

I have a Satellite A300-1JH (short name PSAGLE) and till now I?ve used it with XP SP3 and everything worked perfectly. But now I installed Vista 64-Bit and there are many features which don't work, because there are EXTREMELY few drivers available for the 64-Bit version of Vista.

The problems I hate the most are: turning on/off the touchpad and making the multimedia buttons work (however, they are lit up - I changed the LED setting in BIOS, but they don't do anything).
And another question: to install XP I changed the hard drive in BIOS from AHCI (or A*** - something) to "Compatibility, and now I forgot about it and installed Vista on the compatible mode.

When I tried to change it to AHCI (or whatever) Vista didn't work anymore. What is the difference between the compatible mode and the A*** mode and does it have a negative influence on my computer if I use it under compatible mode?

I hope you'll reply :).

Answer:Satellite A300-1JH - Can Vista run on "Compatibility" mode?

Looking at the download page it appears that Vista 64 isn't very well supported for your laptop model.
As for AHCI have a read at:
I suspect Vista fails to boot in normal mode because it's missing the RAID drivers for the SATA controller.

The battery no longer works so I am in search for a new one however since the model was discontinued I do not know which battery would be compatible with it.
Its li-ion and PA3633U-1BTM.

Would this work? 06854

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite A300D-214 (PSAHCE) - Battery Compatibility

Hi canchn,

The link for battery that you posted is for Satellite A200 and not for A300D. Furthermore the part numbers are different.

I don?t understand why you don?t buy the same battery again. I mean you have already the part number (PA3633U-1BTM) and if you make a Google search for this number you can find many online shops they have listed this battery.

Furthermore an authorized service provider can offer you original Toshiba spare parts and order the correct battery for you. Do you know how to contact the guys?

Hi There

Apologies if this question is in the wrong part of the forum but I need help with a battery problem for my Toshiba Laptop.

I have a Satellite A300 and have done for about 4 years.
The battery recently has not been holding charge and I put this down to age so ordered a new one online.
My previous battery had Model Number PA3534U-1BRS with DC 10.8v and 4000 mAh and my new battery is also PA3534U-1BRS with DC 10.8v and 4000 mAh.

The problem is that the computer doesn't seem to like it.
If I put the battery in and connect the power adaptor the red battery icon will show and remain for around 5 minutes before starting to flash.
When I turn the computer on and log in the computer displays 'battery not detected' in the battery icon on the toolbar.
I have not been able thus far to charge the battery.

What am I doing wrong ? Any ideas on how I can get around this ?

Any help gratefully received

Answer:Satellite A300 - new battery compatibility issue

First of all there are no many things which need to be done if you replace the battery.
The new battery should be recognized automatically by Windows system and notebook.
If it?s not the case then the battery is not fully compatible or it malfunctions.

There are many batteries on the market; original parts and not original parts?
I recommend buying an original Toshiba batter from Toshiba service in your country.
In such case you can be 100% sure that you have bought an right and good part for your notebook.

I've just bought a display Model L300-1FS, discounted to ?300 because the charger, and all other materials are missing.
The shop replaced the charger with a genuine
Toshiba 19v 1.58A charger, but on the tech spec for this model amps output should be 3.95A....

Could this drop in Amps be the cause of my intermittent charging?

The laptop does charge, but every 10 seconds or so the charging icon stops and the mains lead green light goes off, then flicks back on again.
Could this be the low Amps or could it be something else?

Answer:Satellite L300-1FS: question about AC adptor compatibility

Hi mate

Usually the Ampere value can be different. Important is the Volt value.
It should be the same like the old AC adaptor.

However, the 1.58A looks for me a little bit too low? please check this again (don?t mix this with 100-240V (1.58A).

I?ve got two AC adaptors; one with 4.74A and the second with 3.95A. Both at 19V and I can use both with my notebook.

I need to know model motherboards that are compatible with the following model:

Satellite P200D-12A. Code : PSPBQE-02F019CE. AMD Turion? 64 X2 TL-60 2.0 GHz.

My motherboard has suffered internal damage and i need to replacing it with the same MB or one that's compatible.

Answer:Satellite P200D-12A - Need new motherboard - compatibility question

You need motherboard which is designed for Satellite P200D series.
P200D supports a AMD chipset so you have to choose this motherboards.

But note; new motherboard is not cheap part? so you have to consider this?

Hi all!

I'd like to add some memory to my laptop and been trying a couple that do work but I am getting some bugs because that seem to be related to the fact that I put pc5300 memory rather than pc4200 memory... The odd thing is that it works fine and only bugs when playing music and flash movies!

Does anyone know with certainty what type of memory can I use ... what is actxually the most important , the frquency (533) or the pc4200 ... how can I know what memory i can buy and be sure it will work, even if I have to throw the actual one if there are compatibility problems?

Many thanks for any guidance!

Question is: are they compatible? I bought the Port Replicator, loaded the drivers and plugged it in.
All the lights come on as they should on the 4 USB ports, and the Device Manager tells me its working properly. But if I plug the ADSL box into it (instead of straight into the USB port on the laptop) or if I try to plug the mouse into it (again, instead of straight into the laptop) neither work.
It also seems to have some effect on Windows -- inasmuch as when I try to shut the machine down, it "hangs" on the "Logging Off" section, until I physically unplug the Port Replicator.

Any guidance appreciated.

I do not know what is wrong there but you should try to download and install latest offered Driver Package from Toshiba support page. You can find it under > Support & Downloads.

There you can find Driver Package for WXP.

By the way: maybe some additional software for mouse or modem blocks. Who knows?

Hi all,

fisrt of all thanks in advance to anyone could help me.

I had some problem with my Satellite P300-1AN, which comes with Vista Home premium, I think for some 'bad' SW installation something is becoming to be 'unstable' (i.e. Help guide disappeared and also search file is not working anymore, plus other 'spot' things...).

So, since vista is not my favorite one (too long boot up time), I'm planning to move backward (Win XP, which I have disc already), or forward (windows 7, that I would need to buy).
So here is the question: is P300-1AN compatible (I mean are there every driver available for) to Windows XP or Windows 7.

Last: is it possible to upgrade directly WITHOUT making a CLEAN install (to avoid backup or re-install SW) from vista to 7 (and if yes which one: home, pro, ultimate?!).

Thanks again

Answer:Satellite P300-1AN - forward and backward compatibility

Satellite P300 run perfectly with Win7. I have installed it last year on brother?s P300. It runs really good and stabile. Performance is also very good.
In my opinion you should not even think about WXP. Install Win7.

> is it possible to upgrade directly WITHOUT making a CLEAN install
Generally speaking it is possible but I prefer always clean installation so I strongly recommend you to make the same.
If you need help and some assistance with Win7 installation (right install order) let us know.

I have recently purchased a Satellite L500.
I wanted Nero on it so this was part of the appeal of the Toshiba.

I now find that the version of Nero installed on the laptop
is not compatible with Windows 7.
I am sure that Toshiba must be disappointed with this glitch and it was not their intention.

I would be grateful if someone could suggest a resolution to this problem outwith purchasing an upgrade because this adds considerably to the final cost of the unit.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Windows 7 compatibility with Nero

Which version of Nero you are trying to install?

I assume some older versions are not compatible so you should check the Nero homepage for latest version. All current versions there are compatible with your notebook.

By the way: For 3 months now I?m using CD Burner XP. It?s freeware tool and smaller as Nero. I like it, it?s my favorite. :)

I have seen a few posts here about the incompatibility of the L30 and having 2x1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 667 modules installed. Apart from downgrading to 2x1GB PC2-4200 modules, no one has come up a reason why this issue occurs.

My Satellite L30-00100E came preinstalled with 2x256MB PC2-4200 DDR2 533. My current BIOS is v2.10 (latest available on the website).

I got a couple of spare 1GB 667 modules from work (which has been tested as working). I put them in my L30, and tried out some tests using MemTest86. Essentially, these tests pass:

1x1GB (any module in any slot)
1x1GB + 1x256MB (any module in any slot)

What does not work is 2x1GB! It will fail on the Random test (test #7), and it always fails on what seems to be a random address of memory under the 1024MB address range. I have yet to see an error above 1024MB and this occurs no matter what order the modules are installed in the slots. What I see is something like this:

Address: 942.6 (this changes - but stays under 1024MB)
Write: 0x2cd48206 (this changes)
Read: 0x2cd48286 (this changes - but the 2nd to last value is out by 0x80)
Diff: 0x00000080 (this is always the same)

The Diff value is always the same, and suggests to me that a bit is being flipped when it shouldn't be.

Now 667MHz memory is capable of running at 533MHz, and the memory is good, and some combinations of the 667 work, so I suspect it is a BIOS problem. Perhaps it is just getting confused by the memory timings?

What else can I/we/Tosh... Read more

Answer:Satellite L30 and 2x1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 667 compatibility

This is not the BIOS problem!
I have also read several threads about the memory upgrade issue on L30 and ALL people have the same problem; the modules from Crucial are not compatible or don't work!

I have an L30 at home and I was able to upgrade the L30 with an 1024MB module. It was one from Kingston.

As you said the L30's FSB is 533 MHz therefore it makes no sense to use the 667 MHz module. If 667Mhz modules are cheaper as the 533Mhz modules then I assume the quality of these modules is not the best.

Generally the quality and the performance of no-name modules is bad and I would not recommend using such modules due to different reasons.

Use the Toshiba recommended modules and enjoy!

Can anyone add to list of *compatible DVD writers for Satellite A40-SP151*
Googling the drives previously listed, they appeared to be just DVD-Roms/CDRW combo's.
Toshiba G8CC0000R810
Hitachi G8CC00015810
TEAC G8CC0001D810
Panasonic G8CC0001C810
Toshiba SDR2412OAA

I'm trying to upgrade to a DL DVD-RW drive.

I can confirm Pioneer KD08 and Panasonic UJ-850 FWv1.10 are _not_ compatible, the latter I cannot find any firmware for (to try and swap master / slave settings)..(Dont want to mess with the Pioneer)

I think the TOSHIBA DVDRW/CDRW COMBO Part No. SD-R6112 is compatible if anyone can confirm this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A Friend of mine got an Toshiba Satellite A300-1L0 Notebook with broken Display.
On Ebay he has the Chance to get a Toshiba A300-1HP Notebook, which is optically identical to his Notebook and regarding to the product Sheet of Toshiba has nearly the same technical Specs exept of Core 2 duo Model, ATI HD 3xxx Model and HDD Size, as far as i can judge. The Display has the same specs on the Product Sheet.

Further on ebay, there are Displays sold "universal" for Sattellite A300 - meaning if you type in "Satellite A300 Display" you dont have to specify which A300 model you've got.

What do you mean?
Are The Displays at least "Pin Compatible" or why should an ingenieur / Engineer use a different Pin layout on the Same Notebook Casing?
Does the A300 have the same mainboards futher?

Thank you !!!

Answer:Satellite A300-1L0 - Display compatibility question

I guess all displays released for an Satellite A300 series should be compatible with the single Satellite A300 model.
All Satellite A300 notebooks was equipped with an 15,4 " TFT display panel and this is most important fact. You have to use such 15,4 " TFT display panel.

The resolution can be different and this will not affect the display compatibility since the graphic card is able to support different resolutions.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 and I?ve seen pictures and videos on the internet of people have these LCD touchpads that light up blue and have shortcuts but the only touchpads I can find like that are for the P100 models and ino some of the parts fit each other as I?ve researched it but I can?t seem to find whether the touchpads do or not but I think that?s what the other people I?ve seen do anyone any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro A100/P100 - touchpad compatibility

Both notebook models are pretty old so it is not easy to find some useful info about that. I remember that some A100/P100 and A200/P200/X200 models were offered with such touchpads.

I?m not technician but I believe that such touchpads with buttons have two cables that must be connected to the mainboard and touchpads without buttons have one flat cable only.
I also believe that models with and without such touchpad have different part numbers) model numbers) so it is possible that they have different mainboards.

What do you need is professional help with this. I mean, if possible, try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and ask for help. They have access to Toshiba database and can check specification for your notebook model but also database for all notebook hardware components.

Maybe they will be able to help you with this.

Why can I not install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Toshiba Satellite L750-22x?
I get a processor compatibility error.

Intel i3 M380 2.53GHz

Answer:Cannot install Windows 8 on Satellite L750 - CPU compatibility issue

The internet provides some details about this error message.
It seem that in order to install the Win 8 CP the CPU should support PAE/NX/SSE2 features

Never-eXecute Bit ( [NX bit|] ) allows marking of memory pages as non-executable.
Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) is a previous standard that is supported by Intel and AMD CPU. Therefore all CPUs that support NX would also support SSE2 too.

Usually enabling the XD (for Intel CPUs) or NX (for AMD CPUs) in BIOS should disable this error message.
But if this is not available in BIOS then either the CPU does not supports this feature or the BIOS does not support this option.

According to Intel Ark page the Intel Core i3-380M supports Execute Disable Bit. So possibly the BIOS does not support this feature

It seems you need to wait for new BIOS

Hi guys,

Hoping I can pick your brains. I have the Satellite M70 and have ( I think) installed most of the new drivers for Vista...yet when I boot up I keep getting "This program is blocked due to compatibility issues" blah blah blah...then it says it's

Program Toshiba Utilities
Publisher Toshiba
Location C:\windows\system32\TCtrlIOHook.exe

Can any of you please tell me
a) where I can get a driver to resolve this,
b) Stop this message appearing each time I boot up

Answer:Satellite M70 with Vista - TCtrlIOHook.exe is blocked due to compatibility issues

The TCtrlIOHook.exe belongs to the TOSHIBA Control Hotkey Utility.
All this FN keys needs control software and the TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility is necessary if you want to use the additional function of FN buttons.

A) If you didn?t find these Utility for Vista on the Toshiba page then it seems that Toshiba don?t provide this software for Vista for M70 notebooks.

b) If you want to stop this message appearing at the beginning of the booting process you should remove it from the OS or you will prevent the software from loading!
This can be done in the registry. You could remove the entries from the RUN
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

I look up my model under discontinued Models and there it is displayed in all its glory with a button beside it, Get windows 10.

The problem is obviously a driver of some description.

I recently had issues with my PSU and rather than play guesswork on whether its still functional, I rather just replace it.

My motherboard is a m3n78-pro. Its a bit dated but I'd like for this pc to last another 6 months before I build an entirely new rig. If I read the manual correctly, it requires ATX 12V V2.0.

The PSU I'd like to change to (since it just has to last another 6 months) this 900 w PSU. Would the m3n78-pro be compatible with this PSU? One concern I had was that the m3n78-pro requires a 4 pin ATX +12v connector. If I read the PSU's specifications correctly it has one 12V 8-pin (4 + 4) CPU power connector. Is that 8-pin two separate power connector, ie do I just use 1 of the connectors to fit into the 4 pin ATX +12v connector?

Please excuse my noobishness but what exactly does the v2.92 Motherboard specification entail? I tried to google it, but got less useful information and product results from newegg.

Also I read the wiki on the ATX 12V V2.X standard, but it didn't answer my question - is ATX12V v2.3 backwards compatible with the ATX12V v2.0 standard?
Thank you very much for any help you can give.

How fast RAM can I use- I want to add SSD and make it primary drive (and still keep current one for data) - will 240GB SSD (e.g. GoodRam Iridium Pro 240GB (SSDPR-IRIDPRO-240) be compatible?- can you please send me name or example model of SATA cable compatible with my laptop and mentioned above drive? It looks as it requires round cable - correct?- is drive mounting cage specific or can I buy any? Thank you in advance for any help. Regards,Gregory Malinowski

Answer:ENVY dv7-7255dx SSD compatibility & RAM compatibility

We do not see that brand of SSD over here in the US but as it is a 2.5 inch wide 7 mm thick SATA SSD it is virtually certain to work.  Yes you can install 16 gigs of RAM.  Service Manual DDR3-1600-MHz dual channel support Supports up to 16384-MB system RAM Memory modules (2, PC3, 12800, 1600-MHz): 8-GB memory module 670034-001 This is DDR3-1600 1.5 volt memory. The Kingston linked above will work.  Here is a link to the SATA cable and caddy for your laptop to use in the second bay: These are specific items and need to be designed for your specific model as there are mounting flanges and attachment  points that have to engage to hold the drive from moving inside the laptop.  I sense you are not in the US. If you have trouble finding any of this let us know but all can likely be found on eBay in Europe. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Question: USB compatibility

So I have some storage drives which, when plugged into an old laptop, prompt a search for a driver (which I don't have).

Does this mean they're not compatible?

The laptop probably requires USB 1.0- but I thought you could still use USB 2.0 devices with them.

Answer:USB compatibility

OK here's the problem- it's compatible, but it won't work without drivers- and drivers didn't come with the device.

Question: Ram Compatibility

I'm making a new computer with mostly new parts and some old. Will a motherboard that has a DDR2 1200Mhz Standard still run 4GB (2 x 2) 1066Mhz Ram?

Answer:Ram Compatibility

Which motherboard are you referring to? The asus mentioned in your sig?

System Specs are fully updated.

Link to PDF of System Specs from specific model from
I need to add RAM. It currently has 4GB, but it isn't sufficient. I have to use VMWare workstation, Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, and possibly Microsoft Project, and other high resource software.

It says both slots are occupied (I am guessing 2GB per slot).

How difficult is it to replace? Is it worth it?

Average cost? Can you recommend one? Ideally, 6GB-8GB is desirable. I don't have much to spend.

I am an Information Systems student (for tech knowledge).

Answer:Need to add RAM if possible: Compatibility and is it possible?

It would be nice to find the motherboard manual. It would give needed information.
I Googled and all I got was a bunch of eBay stuff and some chop stick websites.

hey all, here's my specs:
motherboard: asus a7v880
CPU: AMD Sempron 2800+ 2 GHz
RAM: 2048 MB (1024 x 2) DDR DIMM
Audio: Internal
Video Card: nVidia GeForce FX5500 AGP

i think my problem is with my video card/motherboard compatibility. if i have the video card's driver enabled, then right when windows loads up, it goes straight to stand-by mode, and when i have the driver disabled, it loads up normally, but i can't burn cd's or dvd's and i can't play dvd's either. i sent it in and got it fixed about 6-8 months ago, and it worked fine. but then my computer got real sluggish and took forever to do normal tasks, so i formatted the hard drive and started from scratch, but now it's having the same problems, so it's not a hardware problem. i tried to ask the guy who repaired it what he did, but he didn't remember. i don't know if there's some sort of patch out there or some programming i have to do, but if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it, i would love to hear it. thanks all!

i've tried downloading all of the latest driver firmware for it too, and it didn't solve anything. thanks again!

I have many hours of family VHS recordings which I would like to copy onto DVD. My recent visit to Dixons made me realise that whichever recording format I should choose (ie RAM, - or +), playing these DVDs on our existing DVD players would probably not be possible! While reading the latest PC Advisor this morning, I noticed in the review for the Beng DW 1600A Dual-layer DVD writer that ?... it even lets you convert your +R or -R media to DVD-ROM Book Type format.? Would this then solve my problem? Are there other (cheaper) DVD writers which do this?(Have just made a search in the forum prior to posting ? one of the threads suggests that DVD -R is the most compatible format for older DVD players).

Answer:VHS > DVD > Compatibility

I have a real cheap DVD player (40.00) that does not claim to be able to read any of these formats but, as an experiment, I burned a DVD and tried it (with success). What I did do was use Ulead Visual studio and created a DVD video format (which ir was only able to do on -R).The dual layer is an upcoming option to squeeze more onto a DVD. This is already used on commercial DVD's but that is a side issue.I know this is not a complete reply but it might help.

Question: Compatibility

I currently use Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus for video-editing on XP; however, I have been informed that it doesn't work correctly with Vista unless I upgrade to Studio 10, which they will make a patch for. Is this correct?

If so, I could upgrade for ?15, but would prefer a free solution such as an emulator. Any recommendations?

Vista is an absolute must-have. I'm not going to stay with XP.

You could try right clicking the icon for Pinnacle Studio 9 and click properties, then click on compatibility tab and choose Windows Xp Service Pack 2 and apply the settings and see if that works. Please note that I do not know what that program is but that tip can be a general fix for some things.

Question: x32 compatibility?

Is there a way I can run a program in x32 bit mode or something?

Reason being is I need to extract the ROM from my TI-83+ calculator, and I cant do that because it says I need a x32 bit OS.

Answer:x32 compatibility?

Does it involve installing a device driver? If so then maybe not.

Though have you tried running in any of the cmpatibility modes? THose might fake the program out enough that it'll stop balking at finding a 64bit OS. But then if your installing a device driver you could be taking a chance on causing a problem. A lot of people install older drives and they ususaly work ok but then a lot of them fail causing all sorts of boot/bsod troubles.

Question: RAM Compatibility

ok, i got a new motherboard. in the manual, it says it takes the following type of RAM: "3 x 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets for up to 3GB unbuffered ECC and non-ECC PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 SDRAM memory" My other motherboard used PC100 RAM. Can I put some of that in this new motherboard? i've never heard of PC1600 RAM. might that be the PC100?

Answer:RAM Compatibility

No you wont be able to use your old ram. PC100 is non ddr ram... pc1600 is the ddr version of pc100. As far as i know if your mobo takes ddr it wont take sdram (unless it has seperate sdram slots). But as far as i know you cannot use SDRAM in a DDR Ram slot... so I dont think your old ram will work!

I have a 750-114 with 12GB. I want to use 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 modules. They are the 1.5V, not the PC3L low voltage RAM. Does anyone know if they will work? Also - I want to upgrade the processor to an Intel I7-6700K 4.0 Mhz. The upgrade chart only goes to 3.4Mhz. Does anyone kow if it will work one way or the toher? It should; it is plug-compatible, but i wanted to ask first.

Answer:HP 750-114 RAM Compatibility

Inquiry concerning RAM has already been answered by @banhien? here.  Use only PC3L.The CPU has a TDP of 65W, your choice is 91W. It's a NO - GO (IMHO).
