Satellite R50-C - Memory upgrade question

Question: Satellite R50-C - Memory upgrade question

Hi, new to this forum.
I tried to find a direct contact to ask this, but could not locate any email options on the website, only phone numbers, which aren't an option right now as I have other obligations during business hours at the moment.

I'm a computer technician of 30 years and have today purchased a new Satellite Pro R50-C PS566A-004001 with an i7-5500U, 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD Notebook for a customer of mine. He has requested an additional 8GB of RAM, which I purchased at the same time from my wholesaler. On opening the box I discovered there is no access to the memory slots or the Hard Drive. The Toshiba Website states in the specs that the RAM is expandable to 16GB, but it appears the back cover has to be fully removed to gain access. I would like to check if I remove the back cover will this void the warranty. The specifications on the Toshiba website do not state that it is not user accessible to change the RAM, where as from the research I did for the customer, other cheaper models do state this. I have sold Toshiba and other brands Notebooks in the past and have always ensured that the specifications for the laptop did not say the RAM was non user accessible, and as such that I would be able to upgrade the RAM as customers request.

As above, I just wish to check that upgrading the RAM on this laptop will not void the Toshiba warranty, since the specifications do state that the laptop is expandable to 16GB of RAM, and do not state that it is not user accessible/upgradeable.
Cheers, Peter

Preferred Solution: Satellite R50-C - Memory upgrade question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry for the beginner question. But if I have 512MB memory at the moment, what are my upgrade options?

Do I have to buy pairs of memory? So I can either buy 2x 1GB=2GB, or 2x 512MB = 1GB + 512 existing. Or can I say just buy a single 512MB or 1GB chip?

Answer:Question about memory upgrade for my Satellite M40-307

Since nobody wants to answer:
1. Check if your notebook supports Dual Channel Ram (it should, but just ckeck in the manual to be sure)
2. Find out what kind of RAM you have. This will add or remove a possibility to upgrade

The thing with Dual Channel is, that you have the best performance, if you using 2 RAM of the same type (really same type: company, size..)
you could:
3a. Add a 512MB RAM of the same type which you have
3b. Buy 2 pieces of new RAM of the same type (1GB + 1GB, or 2GB + 2GB) and be sure that your Notebook supports this ammount (again: manual to check)

You can find also in the manual, if your notebook is supporting DDR or even DDR2 RAM (faster)

If you lost your manual, you can download it here on the toshiba webpage

I hope I could help a bit.

Can anyone tell me which types of memory can be installed in my Laptop? Currently I have one 512 Mb DDR (PC-2700) installed and I was thinking about changing it to 2x256Mb DDR2 (so the dual channeling should work). Is it a good idea? Will it work? And what specific type of DDR2 is compatible with my Toshiba?

Answer:Satellite M40-101 memory upgrade question

As far as I know the notebook uses PC2700 DDR-Ram modules.
You can upgrade the memory to max 2048MB and these modules should works properly:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-2M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-2M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-2M1G)

Hope I could help

Hi, there

The minimum recommended memory for Windwows XP is 256 Mb and I do not understand how the company could get away selling notebook with 256 MB with built-in graphic adapter sharing the system memory.

Anyway, I want to upgrade my Toshiba and my intention is to buy additional 512 Mb memory, such as

Will it work properly with 768 Mb or shall I buy only the same pairs : 256+ 256, 512+ 512?

Thank you very much.

Answer:Question about memory upgrade on Satellite L20-181

Firstly you are not right. The Windows XP runs also with the lower memory value.
But of course, it depends on the memory if the OS applications will run faster or slower.

However, the fact is that you can upgrade the memory on you notebook and it doesn?t mater if the modules have the same memory value or not.
In this case the notebook was delivered with 256MB and you can install easeful the second 512MB memory module.

PS: I would recommend installing the 512MB in the first slot and the 256MB in the second bank.

Help! Please

Answer:Question about memory upgrade (4 GB) on Satellite P200

You have to use compatible modules!
You have to use the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM

If you already use such modules then I?m afraid a memory malfunctions.

Try with other modules!

I upgraded my memory form 2Gb (2x1 Gb) to 4Gb (2x2 Gb) with two Kingston memory modules KVR667D2S5/2G (PC2-5300 CL5).
For two weeks there were no problems but then I got blue screen every time when system boots reffering to I guss memory error.
I tried to replace memory with original Toshiba's modules but blue screen remains. I have conctacted the service and they say that
it may be memory incompatibility, virus or hard disk malfunction.
After few days of working on the solution I reinstal my laptop with Toshiba DVD and replace original memory. Now everything works fine.

I wonder is Kingston memory cause of my problem or somethig else?
Does anyone know is Kingston memory KVR667D2S5/2G 2Gb compatibile with Toshiba?

Answer:Question about memory upgrade on Satellite A210-127

Honestly, the Kingston offers high quality products and, I believe, you are the first one who complains about Kingston RAMs.
If you visit Kingston webpage you can find list of compatible RAMs. Is your module listed there?

I've had the misfortune to get 2 KVR667D2S5/1G sodimms for my Toshiba Satellite A100-551 laptop which don't work by themselves either as a single sodimm or as a pair, it doesn't matter which slot they go into - they don't work.

However when the orignal 512Mb sodimm is put back into one of the slots - it doesn't matter which - either of the kvr etc sodimms work giving a total of 1.5Gb of ram.
Please help me to solve this problem.

Also is it poss. to upgrade cpu ie is cpu socketed. I've already upgraded many a laptop cpu when thay had socketed cpus, so I'm aware of the problems involved
Thanking you all for your kind help in this matter.

It?s clear -> modules seems to be not compatible ;)

> However when the original 512Mb sodimm is put back into one of the slots - it doesn't matter which - either of the kvr etc sodimms work giving a total of 1.5Gb of ram.

Cannot believe that! As far as I know this notebook was delivered only with one 512MB DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM module.
Of course you can upgrade the memory up to 2GB using two 1024MB modules.

The compatible memory can you find here:

> Also is it poss. to upgrade cpu ie is cpu socketed. I've already upgraded many a laptop cpu when they had socketed cpus, so I'm aware of the problems involved
Well, what to say, the CPU is socked? you can find out it easily using an hardware diagnostic program like ?Everest?. It would provide many useful information about your notebooks hardware.

But to be honest, I?m very skeptical about CPU upgrade on the notebooks.
If you have already changed several CPUs on the notebooks then you should know that this is not very easy and more tricky like the CPU upgrade on the desktop PCs.

I have a Satelite S3000-X11 that I have upgraded to 512mb of RAM (2x256mb modules) plus an Hitachi 80gb 5,400rpm HD.
It is running very nicely but it does occasionally run out of physical memory. According to the Toshiba spec. for this machine, it should take 1024mb of memory, but everywhere else I look (including Crucial) says that 512mb is the max.
I have found some 512mb modules of the right type, but will they work?

Answer:Satellite 3000-X11: Memory upgrade question

The Satellite 3000-X11 has an 830MG (ICH-3) chipset included. The maximum memory supported by this machine (and chipset) is 2 x 512MB.

Hi all,

I'm really in need of your assistance in upgrading my toshiba Satellite 5200-801 (Model: PS520E-31P1D-EN), basically its the factory spec versions (specs shown in link below)

What i want is to get the fastest internal memory you can buy for this model (currently I have the default two sticks of 256mb DDR 266MHz CL2.5 memory). Probably one gig of memory will do (I might get more, but it depends on the price).
Plus i want to upgrade the HD to 160 gig (approx), as well as getting a HD that's faster then the current 4200rpm 60gig Hitachi HD (as fast as is possible for my laptop's specs).

Anyone know what the best options would be?

Someone was saying that it would all cost under 100 (which would be cool), but i don't know anything about compatability of different companies etc.
Can anyone recommend what hardware ...and where *hopefully ebay or dabs :)
I need to go to get this sorted out

FYI, I'll be mainly using the laptop for graphics, video's and the interwebz.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Answer:Memory and HDD upgrade question - Satellite 5200-801

You can upgrade the Satellite 5200-801 memory and HDD.
The notebook?s memory can be upgraded up to 1GB RAM. So you could use 2 x 512MB PC2100 DDR-RAM modules.

Check this Satellite 5200-801 link:

In my opinion you can use memory modules from different manufacturers but the module has to support these specifications: 200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM
I assume you could use also a 400Mhz module because the notebook supports a 400Mhz FSB too.

I think a 160GB IDE HDD upgrade is not possible. From my knowledge the BIOS could not support such huge HDD size. But this is only my personal opinion. If I would be you then I would try a smaller HDD like 100GB or 120GB.

you can try the stick, I think the stick will clock down from 200Mhz frontsidebus (PC3200) to 166Mhz (PC2700) and should run flawless.
If you encounter errors with that stick then it would be useful to put some original toshiba pc2700 RAM inside.

Such option doesn?t exist in BIOS and the whole thing is controlled automatically. BIOS update will not change anything.

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

P.S.: Don`t think a discussion is necessary, thread could therefore be closed...

Hey all

I want to do a memory upgrade on my Toshiba Satellite L20-181.
Now i have 256MB and i want to add another 256MB memory stick.
Could you please inform me about the type of memory this laptop has?
On the site it says:
System memory standard : 256 MB
maximum expandability : 2,048 MB
technology : DDR2 RAM

A link with such memory would be very helpful.
Also any way to buy online memory?

Best Regards

Answer:Satellite L20-181 memory upgrade

The info that you have is absolutely right. Toshiba has tested this notebook with follow memory modules:
DDR2-400/533 256MB (PA3389U-1M25)
DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)

As you can see it is DDR2 memory module and if you use part number (PA?.) at the Google you will find a lot of online offereor where you can order this tested memory. I recommend you to buy original one or maybe Kingston module. On this way you will be sure that new module will be recognized properly.

Hi, I have a Satellite A60-217 (Intel Pentium IV HT 532 ,3.06GHz), and I would like to upgrade the memory adding a 512 MB to currently installed memory (256MB, with 64MB shared to video card).

I tried to install a 512MB S3+ PC2700 DDR SODIMM module, but system won't boot up: it emits a long whistle, then shuts down automatically. If I remove the module, system boots properly.

The manual reports the supported memory speed is only PC2100. Is this true? Maybe the module is faulty?

I have a Toshiba L40-15G with 1GB DDR2 ram (2x512MB). It works at a frequency of 266Mhz.
I want to upgrade to 2GB of ram by going 2x1GB sticks or a 2GB stick.

However, i don't know if the 2GB stick will be accepted on one slot.
Should i buy a 2GB stick or 2 1GB sticks?

And, can the frequency of the new sticks be higher? like 800Mhz/500Mhz?

Message was edited by: Ruixituh

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite L40-15G

The memory module frequency depends on the chipsets FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB is limited to 266Mhz then your modules will run only with 266Mhz even the modules would support a faster speed.

As far as I know the notebook supports the Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
This chipset handles max 2Gb RAM so you could use only 2 x 1GB RAM modules.

I thing the chipset will handle 533Mhz

I have a Satellite L30-134 which appears to be running quite slowly - I think due to large amount of photos and itunes music.

I am wondering which is the easiest way to resolve - buy a memory upgrade (no idea how to change the memory though) or get an external hard drive?
And if I change the memory will I lose what is already saved on the laptop?

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite L30-134

Sure you can improve performance by upgrading your notebooks memory. The maximum amount of your notebook is 2GB and if you want to buy memory modules, make sure the following specifcations are present:

DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

An external HDD won't improve performance but keeps your data safe, if you have to reinstall your system. For me, it is best way to store pictures, music videos and stuff like that.

But there are other things to make your machine faster. Depending on your operating system, there are several guides around the internet.

The notebook doesn?t boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;

- memory modules are not compatible together
- memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
- memory modules are faulty
- one of memory slots is faulty

In most case the memory module replacement helps.

One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didn?t boot.
I thought it?s a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.

Good luck

If you use non-compatible RAM module it is logic that system can not recognize it correctly. I do not know who is the manufacturer of this 1 GB RAM module but if you want to use compatible one pick up some info about PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) or check Kingston web page.

I have a Satellite Pro R50-B-12u with 4Gb of RAM.
I have purchased an additional 4Gb RAM stick but cannot see how you fit it.

My last Satellite Pro had a memory flap on the back but all I can see on the back is about 20 screws but no flap!

Can somebody please help me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Satellite Pro R50-B-12U and memory upgrade

The Satellite R50 does not contain separate memory bay.
The memory modules and slots are hidden under the bottom cover.

In order to get access to the modules, the bottom cover has to be removed.
But I would not recommend doing this because this would cancel the warranty!!!

I guess your warranty is still valid and in such case only authorized technician should perform such upgrade to keep the warranty valid.

Handy with the screw drivers but not so hot with the acronyms. Many thanks to you all out there who know the score!

I understand you very well and sometimes I?m also a little bit confused because of the whole notations in the computer world.

The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 1024MB (2 x 512MB)

You could check this memory module page:

Hi Everyone

I have an OG (Original Giant) P20-504.

On Friday 13th (seriously!) my hard disk died, luckily I had a recent backup.

I need a few recommendations :-

1) Best 80GB drive to buy.
2) I want to upgrade my memory, who's can I use? (2048MB is the target)
3) Can the modular 2nd drive adaptors still be bought
4) Do the adaptors only let you add an 2.5 inch drive?

Also, anyone got any views on how the P20 (mine has a 3.2 GHZ processor) will handle Vista? I think the graphics card may be a little wussy.

Also, how does the P20 compare with current machines?

I have a Satellite Pro L10 Celeron M Processor 360 1.4GHz/ XP HE/ 256MB/ 40GB/ 15TFT/ DVD-CDRW/ OneNote. I wanted to upgrade the RAM memory, and I noticed that in the User's Manual it says:

Before you install a new 512 MB memory module be sure to remove any memory modules already installed.

Does this mean that I cannot install a 512 MB module in addition to the 256 MB it already has for a total of 768 MB?

Thanks for any advice,

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 Memory Upgrade

Hi Luis,

The specification for your notebook indicates that it can accept up to 1,024 Mb RAM. If you have 2 RAM slots then you can use any combination of RAM modules as long as you do not exceed the quoted maximum. Obviously if you only have 1 RAM slt then you must remove the original 256Mb module before inserting you new 512Mb one.

Can anyone please advise where is the best place I can get a memory upgrade for my Satellite Pro A40 laptop.

I think my machine is a PC2700 DDR. I am looking for either 512mb or 1gb.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A40

On the Satellite Pro A40 you will find 2 memory slots and you can upgrade the memory to max 2GB (2x1024MB)

It should be possible to use these modules:
PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)
PC2100 1GB (PA3278U-1M1G)

PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G

I purchase the compatible parts and devices always form the Toshiba service partner in my country because so I'm 100% sure that this parts are compatible.
So I would recommend you also to buy the modules form the ASP in your country.

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro A60 PSA65E which currently has 192mb RAM and Celeron 2.8GHz CPU.

My problem came when I tried to install Adobe Creative Suite 2 onto it but it wouldnt allow me to do this as it needed 384 mb RAM to run it. I was wondering if somebody could tell me which RAM upgrade is compatible with my machine and whether it slots into another port or if I have to take the old one out and replace it?

Thank you

Answer:What Memory Upgrade should I buy for my Satellite Pro A60?

your notebook has 256MB internal memory, I'm not sure why it shows only 192MB. This internal memory can only be replaced by a service technician. But you also have a currently unused memory slot, in which you can place a maximum of 1024MB RAM.

Here are the modules from Toshiba you can use:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

If the unit doesn?t start properly it is probably because the new modules are not compatible for this unit.
According the specification you need PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51) RAM module. Please bring your back and buy PA3164U-1M51. Those are tested and they should work properly.

normally You don't need to bother with brands, MHz'es and stuff like that. If You point out that You want to buy either (recommended) Toshiba original memory option for that model, or a f.ex. use a Kingston 3rd party memory - You just have to say "I have this model, give me a 256, 512 or whatever memory".
It will then work perfect in Your system along with any memory You already have.

Hello there,
I have recently installed Vista Ultimate on my Satellite M60 Laptop, it is activated and updated but I think it is short on memory. I have two 512 banks of memory and have bought two 1gb memory chips from crucial to install instead of the 512 banks.
Question is, I can find one bank under a lid on the bottom of the laptop but no other, where abouts is it situated and how do I access it?
I have done a similar upgrade on an older model and have no problems with working on the machine but in that case they were both underneath and easily accessed.

Hope you can help.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite M60

Hi Russell

If both memory slots are not placed under the memory cover (bottom side) one of them is usually placed under the keyboard. To access it you must remove the plastic cover placed over the keyboard and after doing this the keyboard itself.

Is kingston ddr2 sdram so-dimm PC5300, 667Mhz 1G memory compatible with my notebook?

The Satellite M70 can be upgraded to 2GB RAM.

The Kingston RAM should be compatible with your notebook because Kingston makes high quality RAM and a lot of users here upgraded it with Kingston modules.
And as you said the RAM will run as PC4200, this is no problem.

I have a question about my Toshiba Satellite A30 memory.
I want to upgrade my memory (one chip 256 DDR SoDiMM 333 Mhz PC2700 installed). If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two work together and is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip?

Answer:Satellite A30 RAM memory upgrade

>If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two works together?

Yes, both modules will work together. In such case you will have 768MB of main memory.

> is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip

This depends on the front side bus (FSB). As far as I know the A30 supports a 533Mhz FSB. So the 512MM module should run with full 400Mhz speed.

But note; if the 256MM memory module supports only 333Mhz then the faster 512MB module will also run with 333Mhz. The 256MB module will make the second, faster module slower.

Best regards

I need some memory for my Toshiba Laptop it's a Satellite P30-143 (PSP30E-21301GS4) PC2700s DDR333MHZ CL2.5
I want Kingston RAM but I can't find on the kingstonmemory website. And I don't know the maximum I can use.

Any idee ?

Answer:Satellite P30-143 - Need memory to upgrade the RAM

Hi Johann

Well, regarding the user manual you can upgrade the RAM up to 2GB. That means you can put in 1GB module in each memory slot.

The new RAM should have the following specification: DDR-RAM PC2700 (DDR333)
Normally you should find such RAM modules on the Kingston website because I bought DDR-RAM PC2700 last year from Kingston for my older notebook and it works perfectly.

By the way: In the user manual of Satellite P30 you can find useful instructions how to upgrade the RAM.

You have several ways to find out what memory module is compatible and supported.
You can use a diagnostic too like ?Everest?, you will check the user manual or the Toshiba website for details or you will contact the service in your country for supported modules.

I will try to answer the question: The Satellite A50 should support PC2700 DDR-RAM like these parts:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

Now it?s your choice. You can also google for the offers
By the way: Visit the Toshiba Options & accessories site. There you will find compatible parts

Answer:Memory question about Satellite L40-14N

yes, thats correct. The maximum upgradeability of this machine is 2GB. I would recommend you to install 2x1GB modules because the chipset can handle such a configuration better than 1 x 2GB module. Two similar modules for a maximum memory configuration of a machine are always better because the read/write cycles are scattered on both modules which brings def. more performance then just one module which is permanently occupied by the system.

The current RAM is 2 GB and I would like to pass to a 3 or 4 GB.
On the other hand I would like to know if this laptop is compatible with Linux.

Answer:Satellite A200-1FL: RAM upgrade - What memory can I use?

Theoretically you could use the memory modules from different manufacturers.
But the memory modules must support the right specifications.

You should use the modules which are DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM.

You could update the memory up to 4GB but I think it?s not necessary to do this because the windows OS will recognize only 3GB due to the 32bit OS limitation.

Regarding you Linux question;
Fact is that Toshiba doesn?t release any drivers fro the Linux and therefore you have to search for the drivers on any other 3rd party websites. But generally I don?t see any gig troubles with the Linux installation on Toshiba notebooks.

Answer:Satellite L30 does not boot after upgrade to 2GB memory

You are right, this problem sounds very strange and I wonder why it happens.
The Satellite L30 supports definitely the 2GB memory and you should be able to upgrade it with 2 x 1024MB modules!!!

DDR2-400/533 1GB (PA3411U-1M1G) maybe you could try this one...

I have just tried to add 516MB in my memory expansion slot, but the additional memory has not been recognised. The notebook boots up fine, but only shows 465MB available.

Has anyone any ideas on what the problem might be, and how to get it to use them together?

The 465MB is normal, because of the shared video memory. If I understand you correctly, both modules plugged in, only show 512MB?

Hello, could someone tell me:
Ive had 2 modules of RAM 512 (Samsung) & 256 Hynix. After I decided to install 1024 Mb (Crucial(Micron), Bios and OS doest see 256 MB module - only 1024 MB.

The same picture as I install 1024 Mb + 512 MB. I've already flashed with new Bios - it didn't help.
But the utillity CPU-Z in Windows recongnizes 2 modules in both cases?

P.S. Should I install the same module as my Crucial (Micron), or my laptop doesn't support more than 1 GB?

Now using one module of 1024, quite enough, but may be in the future I would like to have more.

RAM upgrade on this Satellite Pro is a bit complicated and I think it should not be done by notebook owner.
Problem is that you will have full access to memory slots if upper notebook cover is completely removed and it should be done by Toshiba service only. In case that you do it on your own you can lose valid warranty.

Try to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. They can do this for you and I think it cannot be so expensive.

As far as I know BIOS update will not increase RAM possibility and it depends on the chipset. According notebook specification your notebook can be upgraded up to 8GB and not more than that so usage of 2x8GB memory modules will not work.

If you have one 4GB module inside just buy another one with part number PA3918U-1M4G and you will have max 8GB RAM in your machine.

I've been given a Satellite P200-12U with 2GB from a friend's friend, and asked to upgrade it to 4GB.
Have bought and installed the memory, but noticed BIOS and WINDOWs still only registered 2GB.
Then went into BIOS

and noticed that options are generally very restricted, and that the memory is shown but not selectable.

Am I right in thinking, that this machine is restricted to 2GB? And can send the 4GB back to the shop?

Thanks for any information.

Answer:Re: Satellite P200d-12U and 4GB memory upgrade

Can you please post exact model name?
In subject and later in posting you wrote about two different notebook models.

Satellite P200D-12U or Satellite P200-12U?

Dear Sir or Madam!

I own a bit old laptop, and I would like to increase the processor's and the memory's clock speed, but I have no idea how to manage it.BIOS 6.30 version Toshiba Satellite 300CDSI haven't found the clock speed settings in the BIOS.

I tried out some programs to increase the clock speed, but it failed. Thats the reason, why I write this letter to you.

Please help me to figure out, how is it possible to increase the clock speed.

Yours faithfully,
B?lint Kecskes

Answer:Satellite 300CDS - CPU and memory upgrade

I’ve googled bit around but I was not able to find any useful information about RAM upgrade.
It is originally offered with 16MB RAM and can be upgraded up to 144MB but I don't know which modules can be used.

It is very interesting what you can do but I really don't know what you can do with this old piece of hardware designed for old Win95.

I mean it is nice if it still works but I cannot imagine that you can do anything useful with it. Am I wrong about that?

I would upgrade ram memory to the max limit of 1gb.
I found these memory, by kingston:

KTT3311/512 512MB DDR SODIMM

KTT3614/512 512MB DDR SODIMM

Someone could tell me these memory works good with Satellite 2450-101?

Answer:Re: Upgrade Memory for Satellite 2450-101

Yes, the Satellite S2450 does support 1GB max.

The notebook needs PC2100 RAM but you can also buy PC2700 or PC3200. It is downward compatibly.
So I think you could buy Kingston RAM. I had Kingston RAM too and never had problems with it.

Answer:Memory Upgrade for Satellite 2800-400

Hi Ben

Possibly you have used wrong memory modules.
As far as I know you can upgrade the memory to max 192MB
The 64MB was installed as a internal memory and cannot be removed.

I have found these compatible modules:
PA3003U-1M03 32 MB
PS3004U-1M06 64 MB
PS3005U-1M12 128 MB

I asked toshiba service here in greece about upgrading the memory that my A200 23W has and they told me to buy a 2gb memory module (I saw than that there was no need for 2 as there was only one module on it but anyway...).

I did so and installed the new memory but since that in System information i can only see this:

Total Physical Memory 3,00 GB
Available Physical Memory 2,01 GB
Total Virtual Memory 6,19 GB
Available Virtual Memory 5,12 GB
Page File Space 3,29 GB

So my question is WHY AVAILABLE PHYSICAL MEMORY IS STILL 2.01 GB? when i have installed 4GB and the system can see that only in theory.

Answer:4GB memory upgrade on Satellite A200-23W

There is nothing wrong with your system. As you already posted, windows shows your total amount of 4GB physical memory and the total physical memory of 3GB.
The part with the available memory is a windows thing and shows how much memory is left for other programs, because windows needs some of it your its own.

So, if you want to use the full amount of your 4GB you will have to use a 64bit version of Vista, because 32bit versions are limited to a maximum size of 3,29GB as your page file space already indicates.

Hope this cleared some things now.

My Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 is 4 years old with 512 RAM (2 x 256 PC2700 DDR SDRAM 166 MHz). I would like to upgrade my RAM to the highest possible capacity. How much is this? (BIOS version upgraded from 1.50 to 1.70, Windows XP Pro SP 3).
I would be glad not only to get the answer to my question but also to learn where I could have found out the answer myself.

Thanks and regards

Answer:Satellite Pro M30: memory (RAM) upgrade - max capacity

If you want to search it alone then use Google and you will find this info somewhere. Using Google you can find almost everything.

So now the question: do you want to search it alone or you want your answer? ;)

I need to complete a memory upgrade to 1Gb. I have placed 512Mb in the memory expansion socket but now need to replace the internal 256Mb. The user manual says if is possible in that all memory is plugged in to 2 144pin SODIMM sockets and total memory capacity is 1Gb. The expansion memory socket is one, and the internal memory socket is the other. The question is where is the internal one and how do I get access to it? How is the case removed to gain access? Specifically which screws should and should not be undone. All help gratefully received.

Answer:Satellite 1900-303 Memory upgrade

I think you have misunderstood something in the user manual.
Fact is that the notebook supports max 786MB.
256MB internal memory + 512MB in the second slot.

You can use only one slot for the upgrade. The memory from the internal slot cannot be removed and you cannot place another module.

I realise there has been a recent posting on this forum. However I installed 512MB in the user memory expansion slot and realise that the "on-board" 256MB (in my case) is under the keyboard and can be replaced albeit carefully.

What is the other slot in the memory expansion area.. it looks like a small slot.. like a 133 PIN or something.

Anyone any ideas ?

I must say the 512MB has made a notable difference, best ?30 I have spent in a while.

Answer:Satellite 1900 303 Memory Upgrade

You are right. On this notebook model only 1 slot is user upgradeable. This slot is placed under the ?Expansion memory module cover? (near the cooling fan). Original memory module is PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51). It is 200 pin memory module and it is pretty small, not so big as on desktops.

I can tell you only one thing: be sure you have compatible one and everything will be OK.

How do you get keyboard off this model to upgrade memory?

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite 1900-803

Why keyboard removing????
In my knowledge the expansion memory module slot is placed at the bottom of the unit near to the fan.
The cover should be secured with one screw. Just simply remove the screw and cover and you will be able to upgrade the memory.

I have just bought 2 x 1GB memory PC4200 for my L30-134 and installed them they work fine in BIOS, show up and read as they should do, but when windows is booting up it will crash with both modules installed, only ever gets to the screen with the loading bar going across and then I get blue screen.

Forgot to make a note of the error code I am afraid... (Fool I know). If I remove one of the modules and install the original 512 module with just 1 of the 1GB ones it will work fine. BIOS has been updated to the latest 3.10 version and still I get the same problem...
because all seems fine from within BIOS I am thinking that its more likely to be a software (windows) problem of some kind maybe some corrupt data in the registry or a virus maybe... has anybody any ideas?

Also, the laptop is actually my step sons and he really wants to have the CPU upgraded from the Celeron 410 to one that's a little faster. When first looking into this we was told that several CPUs were compatible (although not really worth the hassle of installing) they were cel m 450 2 GHz, pent dual core t2060 and t2080, and also the core duo t2250,so he bought the t2250,and no surprises it wouldn't work, or should I say it powered up with no display and the shut off and just epeated the cycle. So did not take a genius to work out it wasn't compat...

I know the t2080 are used in the L30's and are 1.73 533 FSB with 1MB L2 cache- 65nm and do stepping. The t2250 is identical apart from the L2 cache is 2MB... Read more

If you use the search engine of this forum, you'll find some (many) topics about memory problems with L30, and you'll find the answer. L30 series is not compatible with some brands, if you use 2x1 Gb modules. Especially there were problems with Crucial memories. Just check the topics! Maybe your CPU is wrong, or something is happened when you installed it. Any question?

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro S200 memory upgrade

Sure it is only 2GB maximum amount? I've read that it is 4GB for the Pro S200-15T, think it should work for yours as well. Maybe you could post exact type.

The specifications are 2x2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM 677Mhz.

To get to the memory slots simply turn your notebook, and in the middle, near the battery pack there is a plastic cover with a little symbol, a memory module to be more precise. Just remove screw and cover and there you have the two slots for your memory.

Hi all.

I want memory upgrade in my Toshiba A300-145.
Now i have 1GB base model and i want to buy 2Gb memory module and so up memory to 3 Gb.
Official specs says that upgrade can be done only to 2Gb.

Question: notebook will see 3GB ram or not?

Answer:Can I upgrade memory up to 3GB on Satellite A300-145

This depends on the chipset which is installed in your notebook.

The notebook with the Intel GM965 chipset supports max 4GB RAM but the A300 with the Intel GL960 supports max 2GB RAM.

So check your chipset and you will known if theRAM can be upgraded up to 3GB or 4GB.

Hi there

I own Satellite P200 17c. My current memory is DDR2 PC2-5300 2gb. I would like to upgrade it to DDR2 PC2-6400 4gb ram. Can i do that and is there going to be some improvement of the speed if I upgrade to PC2-6400 instead PC2-5300?

On my P200 17c I have 2 HDDs. 2x100gb. I would like to upgrade one of those two HD from 100gb to 320gb 5400 rpm. Can i do that? and is it going to be some difference if I upgrade with HD that has 7200 rpm?

Thank you

Answer:HDD and memory upgrade on Satellite P200-17C

First of all: your machine is able to handle a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB but please be aware that you won?t be able to use the full 4GB due to some chipset limitations which are explained in the following article:

Regarding the module speed: the chipset specifications are defined for PC5300, so it will not enhance your speed when installing faster modules.

If you would like to upgrade your harddisk then just do it like you want, because there shouldn?t be any limitations, you can install a drive with 7200rpm together with a slower one.

The only difference will be that the faster drive will be faster. The whole system performance would only raise when you?re installing your OS on the faster drive (which is recommendation from my side :) )

Can anybody help with this OLD problem..?

How is the memory changed in the Satellite 4010cdt series..?
I have looked in all the obvious places, but cannot see where it could go

Answer:Satellite 4010CDT memory upgrade

I have found some information:
Firstly you can use a 128MB module and you can upgrade the memory to max. 160MB (32MB internal memory 128MB)

As far as I know the memory module slot is placed under the keyboard.
You have to remove the keyboard to upgrade the memory.
But if you remove the keyboard you should be careful.

Hello everybody,

I'm interested in upgrading my old Satelite 1800-314.
Does anybody know the maximun cpu upgrade for this machine?
Does it support pc133 memory modules or only pc100??

My idea is to upgrade it from the original Celeron 1.1 to a Celeron 1.4 or even a Pentium III Coopermine / Tualatin processor, and add more 256mb to the machine.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite 1800-314: Memory and CPU upgrade

Hello Andre

The CPU upgrade is not possible. The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.

Memory expansion is not a problem. You can use PC100 256MB (PA3069U-1M25) memory module.

Please can anyone assist with providing some insight or details regarding memory upgrade options for a Satellite L350 - 107 laptop

According to the Toshiba spec sheets this unit can only be upgraded to a maximum of 2gb RAM - There are web sites that advise that this unit can take a maximum of 4Gb RAM..... Can this unit be upgraded to 4GB RAM and if so, how is it done? I have installed 4Gb RAM into the unit and the BIOS recognises the RAM during the POST. Windows starts to load and then crashes.....

The unit is a Satellite L350 - 107, Model number PSLD0E - 00500TF3

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite L350 - 107 Memory Upgrade

Generally speaking the memory upgrade depends on the chipset which is placed on the motherboard.
The Satellite L350 ? 107 has been supplied with the Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset and this chipset handles max 2GB RAM
This means that you can upgrade the RAM to max 2GB RAM using the PC2-5300 Memory Modules.

Hope this info could help you.

Well, there are two memory slots but only one is upgradeable.
As far as I know the 512MB was standard and the max memory what you can use is 1536MB (512MB + 1024MB)

Unfortunately, you can use 1536MB and more is not possible
