Preferred Solution: BIOS update file corrupt Satellite R830

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: BIOS update file corrupt Satellite R830

I could download and was able to unzip this BIOS package properly.

No error messages by now!

I received a notification via Tempro that a BIOS upgrade was available. I downloaded the ZIP file (, extracted the package (BIOS360_EC140_WIN.exe) and ran it according to the instructions.

The package runs, gives the "Extracting files..." progress bar then displays a dialogue entitled "TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.1.2" that says: "This BIOS package does not support this operating system."

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Satellite 830R-143 with the short part no. PT32LE

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Answer:Satellite R830-143 - BIOS update does not support this operating system

Do you have any problems with notebook?
If not then why you want to do the BIOS? Just because new BIOS was released?
I would not change anything if my notebook would run properly.

However, the BIOS update requires the VAP (value added package).
So be sure that this VAP is installed properly. If not, update this.

I have an R830-1GZ Bios version 3.70 EC Version 1.50
And also a R630- 138 BIOS version 2.20 EC Version 1.60 (this is the most up to date version for this discontinued model.)

The former will recognise my WD storage for what it is - ie an external HDD. And the boot priority in the bios shows it below the internal HDD - which is what you would expect for correct operation.

The latter (R630) will always try to boot from the WD storage. It does not show the WD HDD in the Bios Boot priority list.

I can continue to unplug and replug the usb cable into the R630 - but it is a nuisance. I'm sure the problem is down to the BIOS not being new enough. What would be the likely result of flashing the 3.70 version - designed for the R830, onto the R630?

I'm expecting to be told it will make the R630 inoperable. But these laptops are very similar, so I'm hoping someone might have a more hopeful response.

Thanks for your help

Answer:Flashing the Satellite R830 BIOS onto the Satellite R630

First of all:
you can download only the Toshiba win based BIOS from Toshiba EU driver page.
This means that you can update the BIOS only while running the windows system.

it would not be possible to update the R830 BIOS onto the R630 since there is a protection which would break up the flash process because of compatibility issue.

You could damage the notebook if you would still try to update the wrong BIOS (maybe using the traditional BIOS version, USB version, etc?)
So this is really bad, bad idea doing this?

The Satellite C660 had problems from start: Freezing Screen after startup and very, very slow. Also a HDD recovery did not help.

I tried a Bios Update and loaded the file that downloadable from Toshiba (version 1.7). The Bios Update did not complete and now the notebook does not work at all.

As the warranty is void I will now buy a bios chip in china and I am now looking for the bios file.

This is all very disapointing and a big waist of time and money.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Freez after Startup - Corrupt BIOS update 1.7

> The Bios Update did not complete and now the notebook does not work at all.
That?s really pity? it looks like the ROM module has not been flashed properly.
I think this was a problem related to the hardware since you had problems before updating the BIOS.
I think this affected the BIOS update procedure.

> As the warranty is void I will now buy a bios chip in china and I am now looking for the bios file.
Forget it mate?ROM module cannot be replaced? in most cases the ROM module needs to be flashed using an crisis disk?

Would recommend asking an Toshiba ASP for help and to reflash the BIOS using crisis disk.
This should not be very expensive?

Greetings all,

Portege R830-138 Current BIOS 3.7

I am unable to update the BIOS to either 3.8 or the latest 3.9 version. Error: This Computer Is Not Supported.

VAP is installed and modules are working. A previous forum post suggested that it may be related to the recent Intel Management Interface firmware update which I had applied and am unable to uninstall or rollback.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Portege R830 - BIOS 3.9 Update Error

A friend of mine has updated the BIOS from 3.7 to 3.9 without any big problems.
It could be possible that you cannot update the BIOS because of the missing or disabled TVALZ services.

Go to Control panel -> Administrative Tools icon and click services.

Here you can check if the TVALZ service is available ? if its available, enable it and then try to update the BIOS.

If this will not work, you will need to recover the notebook using Recovery HDD or Recovery disk? The BIOS update should functions using the Toshiba factory settings

Did you unzip the BIOS package correctly?
Did you install the VAP for Win 7?

The VAP is needed and I noticed that BIOS update issue can appear if something is wrong with the installed VAP. Maybe you should update/reinstall the VAP.

I have installed an anti-theft software in my Satellite R830, but it suggests that I adjust the settings in the BIOS so that it will only boot up from the hard drive, and to ensure no one else can alter it (if stolen) the BIOS settings are password protected.

Can anyone tell me how to access the BIOS settings on boot up?

You can secure the BIOS settings by setting the BIOS password.
If someone would like to change the BIOS settings, the BIOS password would be required.

Hello Forum,

i have exactly the same problem as described here, 2 years ago:

I need to update my BIOS, but i cant because the BIOS Updater tells me that Intel-TXT is enabled.
Unfortunatelly i cant disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The "cursor" just jumps over it.
I can only "Hide" it which doesnt help.
I have the same for the VT-d and VT-x setting in the BIOS. This is not selectable or changeable as well.

TPM isnt enabled though...
I installed the infineon suite and it tells me that i need to enable TPM in bios to use it. :-(

I have an very old Bios Version 3.1 and i read in the changelog that in V3.4 and 3.5 there were many TPM related changes....

Back then, a user named Paolo30 uploaded a file to which fixed this.
Unfortunatelly this file was deleted on

can someone please provide that file (or a later bios update) which fixes this?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Need Portege R830 BIOS Update without Intel-TXT Check

Port?g? R830-10P belongs to the PT321 series so you need BIOS released for Port?g? R830 PT321

You can download such older BIOS versions from different Toshiba driver pages.
For example:

On this Toshiba Asia page I could find all BIOS for this Portege model.

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

As far as I know the BIOS package downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page contains the WinRAR 32-bit self-extracting ZIP file which includes both Windows-based and diskette based BIOS update installation options.

Did you try to update the BIOS using Win-based BIOS?

What OS do you use?

I have a Satellite L870-141 (PSKBLE). I have updated my BIOS recently to the latest version. (1.60).
Installation was succesfully completed and everything worked fine. After a week or so, the alt key got kind of stuck.
Rebooting the system did not help. Restoring to an earlier backup did not help.
After trying several things, I discovered a way to unlock the tab key. When the sticky keys function is enabled, I have to press the FN key first and than the F5 key. But when I reboot the system, the alt key is stuck again.
It is not a physical stuck alt key, because when I have 'unlocked' it, I can use all the keys again, including the alt keys.

When I access the bios by pressing F2, the bios opens, but I can not use a single key! I have to use the power button to exit the bios. Therefore, I think the bios is corrupt.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Or does anybody know how to downgrade the bios system? (I can not find an official earlier version of the bios)

Note: When I use the HWsetup program and activate the standard F1-F12 function, I can not 'unlock' the tab key anymore.

Answer:Corrupt BIOS on Satellite L870-141

Problem is that Toshiba offers latest BIOS versions only so on Toshiba download page you will not be able to find earlier BIOS version.
What you can try is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They have access to BIOS database and can obtain older version for you.

I really don?t know what is wrong there but you can try to use older BIOS version in hope everything will be OK.
Have you checked this forum to see if anyone else has reported about the same issue?

I attempted to update the BIOS from 1.00 to 1.20 yesterday through WinPhlash64 and it froze halfway through the writing process.

I've read online that there is a crisis recovery mode and a Phoenix utility program that can help reflash the BIOS..but for different Satellite models (e.g. A350). I found the guide [here|].

Does anyone know if this will work and *why* Toshiba don't host the original 1.00 BIOS version on the product page for this particular model?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Satellite C660 - BIOS Corrupt

I can?t say much about Crisis recovery tool for BIOS because everytime I did a BIOS update it worked properly so I never had a problem.

What I can say is be careful with such tools: You could destroy the whole ROM module and I believe nobody has tested this tool on C660 from Toshiba.

Such BIOS recovery can only be done from an authorized service provider because they have special tools from Toshiba I think so in your case I would get in contact with the guys to clarify the problem and they can help you go get rid of this.

Good luck! :)

Hi there again!

Now with a new and weird matter.

We all know that old say... "If it is not break, don't fix it". And if you put it into more informatic terms, "specially if it is a BIOS".

Yes, we all know that the BIOS is something quite dellitate to handle. For some reason we normally feel like if we were handling something like nitro-glycerine, or some radioactive product. And this is because we all know what is being put in risk in that moment: our (or sometimes others) computer, the full system could end as dead as some pieces of metal, plastic, and wires.

Well. I passed through all of that more than ten times in my life, and only once it went wrong. But since that old motherboard was already dead, It was not important. But I allways was EXTREMELY care. I allways cross checked everything before doing anything, allways got a backup and a way to restore that backup... and allways did this in COMPAQ systems, that were prepared that way. Updating a BIOS was just about preparing a disk, turn on the PC with the disk in the diskette drive, and wait. And if you didn't like the results, you simply click "return to previus BIOS" and that was it... very nice. And easy.

Few days ago, a friend brought me a Toshiba Satellite 1410-604 to solve some issues that were driving him crazy. After removing an expired Norton Internet Security, install avast and scan, I found more than one hundred files infected with a wide variety of virus, malware, t... Read more

Answer:Satellite 1410-604 - BIOS update > Incorrect BIOS update in the web?

Hi Fenix,

wow... it tooked very long time to read your post....

Maybe I can help you.

The Bios in the Web is the right one. So you have downloaded the correct version of the Bios.

The Askiris you have used is from Toshiba America which has most times not the exact models as Toshiba Europe.
That should be the reason, why the readme does not contain the European modelname.

I would try to make a fresh Bios update using the traditional Bios update.

Copy the files to the diskette, put it into the FDD, press and hold the Tab key while power on the notebook.
After the notebook has shut down, press and hold the key on the left side of the space-bar while power on the notebook again and wait until it powers off again.

If your notebook does not power on anymore, maybe the RAM is defect?

So, if the use of the traditional Bios and/or changing the memory does not help and your notebook is still dead you should go to an ASP, but this will cost money.

I have my fourth Toshiba notebook now and I had never problems with the Bios updates.

The 1410 is very old I think, so before going to an ASP, I would buy a new one ;)

best regards,

Hello everybody.

I have been having some issues with my Toshiba Satellite C855D-135 laptop. I had to change my internal hard drive, so I decided to install windows 7 on it (I used to have windows 8 but don't have the CD and I couldn't find the licence key sticker.),
So I went into the BIOS to switch it from UEFI to CSM, but something went wrong at that point and it seems to have corrupted the bios.
I think I have bricked it, but some things still work.

When I turn it on:
- the screen stays black (Yes, I have tried it on a different screen)
- the keyboard doesn't seem to be working (the leds don't turn on when I press caps lock)
- the fan works fine
- cd reader works fine
- When I plug in a USB stick, it flashes quickly once, so that seems to be working
- When I removed the memory bar, the computer did it's series of beeps

- I tried removing the battery, unplugging it and pressing on the power button for ages. (no luck)
- I have tried removing the CMOS battery to revert the bios to default. (no luck)
- I tried flashing the bios on a USB stick, until I realised the keyboard wasn't working and that it was all in vain.
- I tried putting the bios update on a CD, and it spun for a while, but nothing happened in the end. I tried putting these files on the CD:
- C8610.FD (in the Win8 folder)
- C610.FD (in the WIN7 folder... Read more

Answer:Satellite C855D-135 - Corrupt BIOS, black screen, keyboard is not working

Ok, so this weekend I tried replacing the memory, but that didn't seem to make any difference.

I tried flashing the BIOS from a CD again, coz it appears to try and read CDs when you insert them.
I tried renaming C8610.FD to C8610.bin and BIOS.bin, but nothing happened.
I also tried all of the different combinations above, one by one. (Yes, I am a very patient girl! lol)

I was wondering, is there a special way to put things on a CD for it to be bootable?

Hello all,

I'd like to report about successfull recovery of corrupted bios on my Satellite A200-1CG (PSAE3E).
As many others i've downloaded a latest bios update for my notebook and started it under Windows 7 64 bit.

Actually i've only neded some informations from the bios update tool, but the update has started automatically
without a question. :( After serveral blocks has been updated the progress bar has stucked at one position.
In 2 minutes i've had only the completely freezed system. I've switched off the system manually, switched it on again, and...
my notebook was completely dead: black screen etc. and of course i was not able to boot into the Windows 7.

So for those, who is only planning to update the bios: DO NOT UPDATE BIOS ON SATELLITE UNDER WINDOWS! THE UPDATE MAY STUCK!

I've searched over the web a found a solution. With a specially created floppy disk and external usb floppy drive the problem can be eventually solved

I've tried the recovery procedure described there but it did not help. The earlier versions of phlash16.exe tool
where not able to restore the bios. I've heard that the floppy disk was constantly readed for about 2 minutes. After the recommended 5 min pause, I've switched the power of and then switched it on again and ... I've had the same blackness of the screen as before :(

The strange thing was that the latest version of the phlash16.exe tool also didn't work, but it was different to earlier version. If I've used the earli... Read more

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update:

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?

I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

Best regards

Answer:Satellite Pro U400 BIOS update failed - What is BIOS Boot-block access

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Hello, I have updatet BIOS of my notebook sattelite A100.

After updating I cannot start my notebook and BIOS doesn't start.

Answer:Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Do you see the Toshiba logo?

Was there a power failure when you updated the BIOS?

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, and leaving it for a couple of hours. You could also try reseating the RAM.

If that doesn't help, you may need to send it to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

Toshiba 5205 - Serviceman / Call Bios - Need some help.

I flashed my bio's and the laptop locked up in windows and didn't shut off after the flash.

Now when I turn the laptop on, I get no picture and the front of the laptop has a remote lcd display that says: Serviceman / Call BIOS.

I have already remove the laptop's battery and let it sit a full day to killthe bios, but I get the same error and still no picture.

How can I fix this? The bio's should be dead by now. Am just using the ac-power pack for power. I tryed plugging the battery pack back in and I have also put the bio's battery back in. and I get the samething error message on the remote lcd.

There must be a way to get around this, if anyone knows please let me know.

Answer:Satellite 5205 - After Bios update - Serviceman / Call Bios message

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately removing the battery will not reset your BIOS. The BIOS is maintained by a separate battery on your motherboard (the CMOS or RTC battery) and you will need to dismantle your notebook to access this battery. Even removing the CMOS battery will not reset your BIOS since it will be held in a non-volatile area of the CMOS chip.

You will need to take your notebook to a Toshiba Authorised Service Agent to have the chip reflashed with a new BIOS.

Like a complete idiot I upgraded my bios (to 1.80) for Satellite A30 (PSA30E). I've noticed two problems.

a) during boot I no longer get any welcome screen, and cannot access the bios or boot from other devices - so if I want to boot from CD now I can't - e.g. impossible to reinstall OS in the future

b) the battery suddenly wasn't fully charged and hangs persistently on 99% (apparently)

c) who knows what else could be going wrong

I'd dearly love to undo what I've done, but it doesn't seem possible. How on earth do I fix this, since clearly the bios update is flawed. Can I find an earlier bios update file (and how to use it)? Can I fix this one?

Anyone any thoughts?

Answer:Bios update Satellite A30 - can't access bios and no full charge light

Firstly may to ask why you have updated the BIOS. If everything works the BIOS update is not necessary.

Ok, how did you try to access the BIOS? Usually the F2 button should be pressed immediately after notebook starting. You can try to press several times.

But you can boot from ODD on different ways. You can press C button and the notebook will activate the booting from the drive or you will press F12 and you will choose the ODD as booting source.

I don?t know why the battery power freezes at 99% but you could try to remove the battery and wait several times. Then connect it again and check the battery status.

I have a Toshiba 2450-101 but CD 2 of 2 is corrupt. Where can I go to either download this file of obtain a replacement CD.

Answer:Satellite 2450-101 - Recovery File 00737001.GHS is corrupt

Wow? you are an owner of Sat 2450-101???
I don?t know exactly how old this notebook is but it?s definitely an oldie.

To be honest I don?t believe that you could order an new recovery disk for this series.
As mentioned this is an oldie and I believe that the recovery disks are not available anymore.

You last chance would be a OS installation using the original MS Windows disk.
The needed drivers are available on the Toshiba driver page? because of the notebook age you will have to search in Archive for the drivers.

A friend of mine has bought Toshiba Satellite L40-18Y (PSL48E) from a major Bulgarian electronics retailer and insists that it had come without any CDs but on first boot it installed Vista.

After that some other friend of his deinstalled Vista and put a XP for reasons unknown (he said some drivers and patches were necessary to make XP run properly, I suspect it might have been something about LBA48 and SP1).

Anyway, the XP installation is dead and the filesystem of it's disk share is corrupted.
After I deleted it with gparted I have two disk shares now.
First row in partition table: ntfs share labeled WinRE (not hidden, not bootable)
(It has a hidden file RavMon.exe and autorun.inf which implies that the damage on XP installation was maybe caused by a virus)
Second row in partition table: empty (XP installation was there)

Third row in partition table: ntfs share with data

The problem is that the first partition won't boot and act like recovery partition even when I toggle the boot flag.

Is it at all recovery partition and how should I access it?
I read out in some posts that If You press '0' when the computer starts the Bios will boot it automagically, but it didn't work.

In a manual which was downloadable for this model on Toshiba Support website the key was specified as F12. It didn't work either.

I'll be very thankful for any directions, solutions or ideas.

Answer:Satellite L40-18Y: Corrupt file system - How to use the recovery partition

Maybe there is a little change to reinstall the Vista using the HDD recovery procedure.
Please check if this would work.
- Power up the notebook and press F8
- Check if there is an option called ?Repair my Computer?
- if yes, choose it and then choose the last option called Toshiba recovery.

But to be honest I don?t see any big chances that this would work because you have already removed the Vista from the HDD.

You should have read the user manual before erasing the Vista.
The user manual (Chapter 3) said that if the Recovery DVD was not delivered with the notebook then you have to create such DVD using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program (is was also preinstalled). The user manual describes also the HDD Recovery procedure mentioned above.

However, the recovery DVD can be also ordered here:

I purchased a Satellite M115 S 30394 about 2 years ago.
In the first year it went through 9 hard drives and Toshiba says they replaced the motherboard 2 times.

It still will not work and the senario is first a message that the config.sys file is corrupt and after you fix that it will work for a few days and then a message appears that the hard drive is about to fail and it does in 2 days.

I have replaced it as it could not be trusted in my business but wondered if any one has any ideas so that I can have it as a spare,

Answer:Satellite M115-S30394 - config.sys file is corrupt

If you get the message that the HDD fails then it?s advisable to replace it.
But it?s really strange issue?

Anyway, I never had such issue on one of my notebooks but I think you should test the notebook with a new HDD.

Good luck

Hi, I have a problem which I hope someone will be able to help me out on.

My laptop (satellite) suddenly couldn't boot anymore, saying that the following file was missing or corrupt: windows\system32\config\system.

After doing some research I accessed the recovery console (using an xp cd) and tried to replace it. Making a back up of the original and replacing it from c:\windows\repair\system.bak

Now, the computer starts to boot, it shows the XP Home edition loading screen, but then the screen goes blank. And nothing happens. When I try to access the recovery console again, it asks me for the Administrator password when I try to log on to the windows installation. I then ran a program that can find the admin password and discovered that there was no admin password. However, just pressing return is denied!

I am now stuck. If anyone could offer any tips or ideas about how I can fix this, without a complete re format, as there are some important files on the laptop, that would be great!!

Cheers. I'm going crazy!

Answer:My Satellite doesnt start any more missing or corrupt file

Hello Philip

I really don?t believe that you will be able to solve your problem. In my opinion you should connect your HDD to other unit as external device and try to back up your data.

If you can do this reinstall the OS using recovery CD. Check also this interesting topics

I got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300, that says the System32\hal.dll file is corrupt or missing.

Is there some way to repair the file by a recovery by the laptop self, or do I have to get a copy of Windows Vista to boot on and do it that way?

Hope to get some possible answers to what to do.

thanks Christian

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - System32\hal.dll file is corrupt or missing

I read some threads in different forums and in most cases the new OS installation could solve this. The HAL.dll in placed in C:\Windows\system32 so maybe you could solve this by copy this file from Vista CD to this folder?

You could boot up the unit using a bootable Live CD (linux or windows lice CD called PartBe or WinPE)?
But the easiest solution would be the recovery procedure?

The other day though as i was installing a program it crashed and now when i try to start it up it keeps coming up with a error message saying "file missing or corrup. system32\driver\ntfs.sys" and to fix this by using the original windows xp disk.

The windows was already pre-installed on the lap-top and i have no such disk, ive run the recovery disk but that hasnt fixed the problem. Ive even tried to create a boot disk using nero burner but you need a windows xp disk to do that.

Is there anywere round this without sending it away to be fixed or going out and buying windows xp?

When I try to turn on the putter i get-

Missing corrupt file system32\drivers\pci.sys on my screen. Any ideas how to fix this?

I bought another hard drive but when I put that in I get-
pxe-e61:media test failure. check cable,
on the screen.

Thanks for any help or input!!!

Mike @

Answer:Satellite A45-S120 - SYSTEM32 error (CORRUPT FILE)

This error appears mostly if some or any system files are damage.
Usually the new OS reinstallation should solve this problem.
Use the recovery disk in order to reinstall the OS.

But many people have reported that this could happen due to hardware fault; RAM modules or HDD could be affected.

The ?pxe-e61:media test failure check cable? error message appear because the notebook tried to boot from the LAN. This is mostly the case if LAN boot option has been set at first position in BIOS or if the HDD is not available or not recognized.

In your case it could be a new HDD which does not appear in BIOS and is not recognized.

Hello Toshiba users,

I bought a Satellite A200-1DY and I want to install Windows XP 32bit. I used nLite to integrate the storage manager controlers but when I boot the Windows XP CD sudenlly it says that the iastor.sys its corrupted (da?ado in spanish).

I wonder if its because the storage manager folder has two options the ICH7M and ICH8M and I dont know wich one to integrate (I integrated the ICH7M) or maybe the Windows XP I'm using is the problem but I tryed diferent ones. Should I replace the iastor.sys file in the CD with the one I downloaded from Toshibas webpage? If thats the case where do I find this file on a Windows XP CD, I mean which dir?

If I'm not right I tell again the problem is that the iastor.sys file is corrupted and it doesnt let me format my c drive to install the Windows XP. Hope you can help me please I would be very glad I'll be cheking the forum everyday since today

Answer:Satellite A200-1DY - iastor.sys file corrupt during XP installation

Hi buddy,

Satellite A200-1DY is equipped with Intel ICH8M chipset so I think that?s the problem because you integrated only ICH7M SATA drivers?

You should try creating the disk again using nLite and then integrate the ICH8M files only.

You can download the Intel Storage Manager driver on official Toshiba website. It contains the correct and pretested driver for your notebook model.

Check this!!!

Hi all.

I have encountered a problem with my Satellite M50 notebook. When switching on the laptop, a message is displayed: "Windows could not start because following file missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system"

I am aware of my product recovery CD-Rom and have inserted it - however I do not want to reformat my HDD as I have files which I (foolishly) did not back up.

Is there any other method to repair the corrupt file without having to wipe all files on HDD? (I do not have an XP CD - the OS was OEM loaded when laptop was purchased)

Many thanks!

Answer:Satellite M50: Windows could not start because of corrupt System File

Hmm? the usage of the repair console could be a right way to copy or to replace the corrupt or missing files on HDD.
BUT to start the repair console the original Windows XP booting CD is needed.
Without this CD you will be not able to repair the OS. The Toshiba recovery CD contains only the image files and will not start the repair console.

Now the question is; how to backup the data.
You could remove the HDD and connect it to the second PC via USB external HDD controller.
Then you should be able to copy the important files on the second computer.
After file backup you could start the installation from the recovery CD.

Good luck

Hi All,

I have a Toshiba Portege R830, running 32-bit Windows 7 (SP1) enterprise (for work).
I also boot into Linux Mint 14 64-bit, which I have installed on a portable USB HDD (outside work).

I recently bought a USB 3 HDD, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it only gives me USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).

I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc), which say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.

The drive reports itself as being USB 3, the cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed), and the port I'm using on the R830 is 3.

I experience the same, whether I boot into windows or linux.

I updated all drivers on both OSs, to no avail.

next i tried to update the BIOS, but I keep getting the following error:
"An error occurred while preparing the update environment.
You have not given permission to execute the update."

For the record, this is the BIOS I'm going from, & to.
BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.80 --> Updated Ver.4.10
EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.60

Does anyone know why I would not be getting USB 3 speeds (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40 to 50 MB/s), or why all diagnostics are saying USB 2?

Does anyone know how to overcome the BIOS update issue?
(I've tried safe mode, disabling AV, disabling NX)

Hi guys,

Was just wondering if there was anyone out there with a Satellite R830-10C who could advise me on how hot it gets.

I'm looking to upgrade from a netbook to a (cheapish) ultraportable and this looks like really good value for money and well reviewed. However, I've seen some comments on the R830-11c and -143 that seem to indicate they get very hot on the bottom.

I realise the 10C is less powerful so should run cooler, but I need to be able to use this on my lap, leave it on sofa arms etc (not duvets or anything silly) without any issues or I'm better off going for something bulkier and cooler.

Your advice would be very much appreciated

Answer:Satellite R830-10C: Need an advise

The left side can get a bit warm but I don't think it's too bad. If you are just browsing the internet or something else light, then it stays relatively cool.

If you are worried about the heat, you may be better off getting a slightly larger model with a bigger chassis such as the Tecra R840.

Does anyone know if there's any news about SSDs in Toshiba laptops?

The reason I'm asking is that I have a Satellite R830-182 and I've recently bought an OCZ Agility 4 and it is not detected by BIOS.

I've tried all the tricks in the book including BIOS upgrade and switching between AHCI/IDE.

Searching online, I find posts about this particular issue.
The general consensus seems to be that Toshiba has actively chosen to not support SSDs other than their own brand. Is this true? And if so, is this still the case?

Someone suggested that [pressing Pause|] before entering BIOS would help.
Has anyone tried this?
Not sure that this is a feasible long-term solution.

Any other thoughts/advice on this?

Answer:Satellite R830-182 and SSD support

>Searching online, I find posts about this particular issue.
>The general consensus seems to be that Toshiba has actively chosen to not support SSDs other than their own brand. Is this true? And if so, is this still the case?

I?ve got Toshiba notebook and I was able to upgrade the notebook with an 250GB SSD drive from another manufacturer. Also a friend of mine with Toshiba Satellite notebook use another brand name SSD 2.5? drive.

But fact is that compatibility issues between the different devices (not always SSD drives but other PCI modules as well) can happen and its nothing unusual in the wide computer world.

As far as I know some models R830 series are equipped with a "Solid State Drive (SSD)" instead of a hard disk drive. 2.5"SATA SSD type 256GB/512GB and 1.8"SATA SSD type 128GB should be compatible?.
But its also a matter of SSD drive firmware. In many cases SSD drive firmware might be not BIOS supported.
In such case the SSD drive would not be recognized properly.

I benchmarked my Satellite R830 with W7 WEI index. At this benchmark CPU index was 6.9.

I clean installed Windows 7 64-bit to my R830-PT32LE (i5-2410M).

I installed most of the apps and drivers. After that installation when I benchmark again CPU index was 5.2.
(WEI benchmark was done with Power Settings and adapter was plugged)

I think it is really 5.2 because its slower than before. Other than WEI, I test it with some other CPU benchmark apps and all of them gave this kind of low numbers.

What is the problem ? Is it possible if I forgot to install and driver so I get this kind of low results ?

My Satellite A300 seemed to overheat and shut down. Upon trying to start it up again, it would start loading and then freeze on the loading screen. Info: The Selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt"

I then try to load windows again using the Recovery disc I made after purchasing the laptop and it freezes on the loading screen. If you have any suggestions as to getting my laptop working again, it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Vista failed to start, file corrupt

> I then try to load windows again using the Recovery disc I made after purchasing the laptop and it freezes on the loading screen
This would mean that it?s a serious hardware malfunction because Toshiba recovery disk contains an image of factory settings that is pretested by Toshiba and everything should work properly with these settings. If not it looks like a hardware malfunction?

I think you have already tried everything what you can do (Toshiba recovery disk and standard Microsoft disk). So I doubt you can do more?

Is your notebook still under warranty? If yes contact an authorized service provider and let the guys fix this problem under warranty.

If not check the usual suspects like RAM and HDD with special diagnostic tools. Memtest86 and Drive Fitness Test are good tools to do this. :)

Help needed, I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D-11V laptop which when turned on gives the message that a system registry file is missing or corrupt.

My problem is that when on very first setup I did not back up the recovery files onto DVD in case of such problems like this, my questions are, is there any way around this without the recovery disk to reinstall Vista from hardrive?

I cant find a way to do this or will Toshiba provide a recovery disk or software to download (free or to buy) and is this the only option that is available to solve my problem?

The laptop is still under warranty for another 11 months am I covered for hardware/software in this situation having taken it back to the shop I bought it from they said they could not do anything without the recovery disk.

Help, many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L300-11V - System registry file is missing or corrupt

You can reinstall Vista without the recovery disks. If want to repair your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"
and follow the menue instructions).

Normally you had should burn the recovery disk at the first startup. There is a reminder that pop ups from time to time to burn the disk.
So Toshiba does not offer a software to download, it?s all preinstalled on the notebook.

After the reinstalling, please create the recovery disk. If you need one and didn?t burn such, you have to pay.

Hi - looking for some advice here.

Have just updated to the latest BIOS for my R830 - version 3.10 (EC version 1.20). Update went without a hitch.

My fingerprint reader is kaput - and am going away travelling for a while - so need to increase the security on the laptop - so thought I would put a password on the HDD via BIOS.

However I'm having some issues - and would value any help and advice.

Under the BIOS tab 'Security' - I have a number of choices. BIOS password (User and Supervisor), HDD1/SSD1 Password (Mode - User Only, User+Master) and TPM (Enabled, Disabled).

Having researched things - I think I should be leaving the BIOS password as 'Not Registered', setting the HDD1/SSD1 Password mode to user and setting TPM to 'enabled'. This should then allow me to 'register' a user password.

I then go to register a user password - type in the password - and then another window opens for me to type a re-confirmation - which I do.

But whatever password I use - I always get a message "Passwords are not the same Press ENTER to continue". Pressing continue takes me back to the point in BIOS where it tells me that the HDD1/SSD1 'User' password is not registered.

You have to believe me - that although my typing isn't great - I am typing the same passwords. I've even tried different types of passwords (numbers only, letter only, mix of the two) - to no avail.

I've tried enabling and disabling TPM - again - no change.

Any idea what's going on? ... Read more

As far as I know the unknown BIOS password cannot be deleted by any user but only by an Toshiba ASP. So it?s a good security option?

Furthermore the ?User Password? and Supervisor Password can be set using the Toshiba Assist.
Check the Toshiba tools in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities -> Toshiba Assist
Here you have to check the tab called Security

Four days ago I bought R830-111 [PT320E-00X00XPL] and ADATA S599 2.5" SATA II Solid State Drive 128GB to replace the standard HDD drive. Unfortunately, the new SSD drive does not work with this laptop.

Several times, after many restarts disk was visible in the BIOS.
But there is no possibility to normal use of SSD drive.
I did update laptop BIOS [BIOS360_EC140_WIN] and SSD drive. That did not help.

Can someone help and tell me how to make to work this ADATA SSD and Portege?

Best Regards

Answer:Portege R830-111 BIOS can't find SSD drive

Did you check if the SSD drive needs an firmware update?
In some cases this is needed?but in worst case the SSD drive could not be compatible and this means that you will need to test another one :(

I tried to BIOS update, I found the newest BIOS, downloaded and run ...
Then Windows show pop up message :

+TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.1.2+

+BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.10 --> Updated Ver.3.50+
+EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.30+

+Because the Intel TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) is enabled, the BIOS and EC update cannot be executed.+

I rebooted the machine pressed F2 to enter the BIOS and then ... I can't change "Trusted Execution Technology" feature from ENABLE to DISABLE also can't turn on TPM. The same problem I have with Virtualization also can't change feature.

I really don't know why BIOS make this kind of jokes, few days before i can change any options and now I can't. Described features are on black and cursor skips them ...

Answer:Re: Portege R830-10P - BIOS settings problem

Does this mean that you was able to change the TPM and Trusted Execution Technology in the past?

Did you try to set the BIOS to default settings?
In BIOS press F9 and save the changes? this should set the notebook?s BIOS to default.

Furthermore check the Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities.
Here you can change the BIOS settings too

I got problems with upgrading Bios on my laptop.
I can't install windows xp bc.
I got BSOD "The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant"

Yes i tried F7 and didnt help !!!! The only bios i found on here is 1.70-WIN and that works only within windows. So i can't install it also what i did i install windows 98 on it and my system is up but i tried to install Bios i got error. So i cant start it update it.

On this forum i saw there is 1.70 trad update if toshiba support team can send it to me on the email so i could update the bios my bios is 1.0 !

Thanks in advance for any help !

Answer:Cannot update BIOS for Satellite M40-135 - The bios is not ACPI compliant

First of all Toshiba Support team is not here in the forum? its user to user forum.
Secondly the win-based BIOS can be updated only running Windows OS? the best would be the usage of the Toshiba preinstalled Windows version in order to run BIOS update.

By the way; I found BIOS versions on Toshiba US page? there you can download the traditional BIOS which can be updated using diskette.
Note; US Toshiba notebooks have different model numbers.

Does the BIOS update flash the BIOS or does this require a different file. I updated a Satellite A60 BIOS to 1.9 but am not sure if this flashed the BIOS as well.

If not where could I get a file to flash the BIOS for a satellite A60-106?

Answer:Satellite A60-106: Question about BIOS update and BIOS Flash

Sorry but you question is a little bit confused.
The BIOS update flashes the ROM module. I don?t know what version was installed before the BIOS update but if after the upgrade a new BIOS version appears then the procedure was successful.

The right BIOS and how to update the BIOS information you can find on the Toshiba page.

Hi, i just bought an Satellite Pro L40 laptop and im trying to figure out why the bios has no memory settings.
If i look at the ram using a system info tool (cpuz or aida320) it shows that it is not running at the advertised speed of 667mhz but at 533mhz.

As you can see from this screenshot the actual speed the memory is running at is lower than the maximum the sticks are rated at.

Its running at 266mhz (533mhz ddr) when it should be running at 333mhz (667mhz ddr).

I've also noticed that with this laptop the fan never seems to come on, is there a way to turn the fan up?
Everytime i have the laptop on for longer than 30 minutes it becomes very very hot.

Answer:Satellite Pro L40: Bios update needed - no settings for RAM in 1.90 Bios

> if i look at the ram using a system info tool (cpuz or aida320) it shows that it is not running at the advertised speed of 667mhz but at 533mhz.

What is your FSB?
If the notebook was equipped with the PC2-5300 memory modules then they could run at 667 MHz but only if the FSB would supports 667 MHz! I think the FSB supports only 533Mhz.
So I can say it?s nothing wrong!

> i just bought an Satellite Pro L40 laptop and im trying to figure out why the bios has no memory settings.
Why do you think that an BIOS update would enable the memory settings in the BIOS?
Please don?t mix the desktops with notebooks! The notebooks cannot be overclocked!
The notebooks BIOS is not the same like a desktop PC BIOS!!!

> I've also noticed that with this laptop the fan never seems to come on, is there a way to turn the fan up? Everytime i have the laptop on for longer than 30 minutes it becomes very very hot.
Did you notice any automatically shut downs or any other strange notebook behaviors like OS freezing for example?
If not then the notebook runs properly and doesn?t overheat.
The notebooks support an overheating protection which would shut down the notebook automatically to prevent the hardware from damage?

So lean back dude and enjoy your nice toy ;)

PS: are you Carlos Santana fan? ;) I ask it due to your nickname ;)

I have some seriously weird issues going on; my computer won't run the windows 10 upgrade utility, I had issues a few days ago with windows update errors that were fixed via chdsk, which corresponded to the file WMSPDMOE.DLL. My antivirus would lock up my computer each time that file was scanned, and going to it manually and just hovering the mouse cursor over the file would lock the system up. So I ran the sfc/command file system checker and sure enough there it shows that file as corrupt with a reference to KB3110329 update which is not listed in my installed updates. The file checker can not fix the corrupt file. How to I fix it??? Thanks! I attached the sfc scan log results if someone with experience could take a look.

After 2-3 hours of work the typical noise of HDD spin up/spin down be heared from my *Satellite R 830-146 (PT32LE)*. It may continue about 10 minutes or longer and one way ti fix it is to make notebook sleep and wake up it again.

I'm sure, it is not normal behavior and not safe for hdd. I haven't any modified settings in windows battery profiles, only Toshiba preinstalled defaults.
Also there are no any software for managing powersave or hdd - excluding Toshiba preinstalled products.

Do you have any ideas, how to fix this problem?
There is only one suspicious moment I see: ubuntu-server in virtualbox, but it haven't laptop-mode-tools installed at all and it uses virtual drive, so, I think, it would not make any effect on real hdd.

Answer:HDD spin down every 2-3 seconds on Satellite R830

> I'm sure, it is not normal behavior and not safe for hdd. I haven't any modified settings in windows battery profiles, only Toshiba preinstalled defaults.

I think this happens because there is a background process which access the HDD and read or write the data there.
There are a lot of temporal data which would be stored on the HDD. For example during the usage of internet browsers or similar? this is nothing uncommon and could happen if the process would not be canceled properly.

You can start the task manager and check the Processes tab.
There you will find all processes running in the background which could access the HDD.

You can also try to set the HDD in ?suspend mode?
This could be done in Win 7 power options.

Control panel -> power options -> choose the power plant -> advanced settings.

Now you can suspend the HDD after the notebook has not been used for a specific period of time.

I succeed to connect an external screen but impossible to switch to the R830 screen...

Also, I try to putt off my battery and to restart the laptop but the screen is allways black...

I'm afraid that the screen is broken but I bought this toshiba only 6 months ago... :-(

also the touchpad is off, maybe it will be helpfull to understand...

Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english

Answer:Satellite R830-1H3 - Black screen

Yes, it seems like the disaply is faulty because the external monitor is working properly.
But the warranty should be still valid if the notebooks is only 6 month old.
So get in touch with local Toshiba ASP (service parnter) to get it fixed.

I am looking to get hold of a small part for my Satellite R830-1L7 laptop. The part is the small silver hinge protector of which there are two on the laptop; one on the left and one on the right, just underneath the screen. One of mine came loose and was lost, and wires are now exposed underneath.

It would be great if someone would be able to help me locate one, and i will provide as much information as i can if anyone thinks they will be able to assist.

Many thanks.

Answer:Need a small part for my Satellite R830-1L7

Are you talking about the display hinges or the hinge protector?
However, I guess both parts could be ordered from local Toshiba authorized service provider.
Authorized service provider will be able to order all compatible parts for your notebook and from my point of few this is the best place where you could make such part order.

Do you know how to find the service partner?

Hi All.

My R830 seems to have encountered a catastrophic issue which is preventing it from switching on.

I had been running the laptop pretty hard last week running concurrent accounts and several applications while outputting music to external speakers when the laptop suddenly blacked out.

I attempted to switch it back on to no avail.

I done some forum searching but couldn't find much discussion on any issues, so I attempted a hard reset. Removing the battery etc and holding the power button in for 30 seconds, plugging everything back in and then switching it back on. The laptop would then start for about 5 seconds, attempt to boot up and then die again. The laptop is not charging despite having the power cable plugged in (no charging light on).

My own feel for the problem is that it is either a battery or motherboard issue however I can't be sure.

Is anyone able to advise on how I could resolve this issue or shed any more light on what the direct issue may be?

Thanks ...

Answer:Satellite R830 Core i5 - Not Switching On

Did you connect AC adaptor while powering on the unit?
In such case the notebook should power up and run even if the battery would be faulty or discharged / empty.

In my own opinion it sounds more like motherboard hardware issues as an battery related problem.

Other question: are you able to access the BIOS? Does the notebook run in BIOS mode?

I have checked Toshiba?s website and apparently the Satellite R830 is not in the list of upgradeable devices for Win 10.

Is it just a matter of time until Toshiba prepares the required drivers or is it a final policy?

I have found in other forums some attempts to upgrade the system... but it would be nice to hear from experiences and plans here

Answer:Windows 10 support on Satellite R830

Even if the notebook isn’t listed on the Toshiba Windows 10 support website, this does not mean that you cannot install the Windows 10.

But fact is that the Windows 10 drivers as well as Toshiba software are not available for this notebook model… it could be possible that some notebook features like FN buttons would not work properly but you could try to install the Windows 10 drivers / tools released for other notebook series which could solve the issue…

So don’t be worried that the unit isn’t officially Win 10 supported model… this isn’t really an reason NOT to use the system… you know…

I have a Satellite R830. As I closed down a notice appeared to say do not shut down until updates had finished. On completion of updates the laptop closed, then restarted. When it re-started on black screen PASSWORD:_ appeared with flashing cursor. I have tried all of the passwords I can think of including administrator password. After three attempts laptop shuts down. Any ideas of which password is required and if there is a safe mode to reboot?

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite R830 - Re-Boot password

When it re-started on black screen PASSWORD:_ appeared with flashing cursor.

Sounds like a BIOS password.

But to be honest, the story sounds really strange to me… I never read about the BIOS password which could be set automatically during the system update…

Nevertheless, if it’s really a BIOS password and if it’s unknown to you, well, then you will need additional help from authorized service provider… only authorized person is able to remove an unknown BIOS password.

I have just erased the hard drive and re-installed all from CD recovery disks. The only extra software I have installed is windows office 2010.

I've read other threads about the fan and changed the colling setting under power for battery and I've upgraded the BIOS. I don't think I have fingerprint software installed only face recognition.

However fan is still running very very fast all the time. CPU, which is an i3 2310 @2.10GHz, is running at around 30% and only 50% of RAM is bieng used around 2.04GB.

iexplorer is using the most CPU and RAM at around 02-05 looking at task manager and at around 482,000 K of memory. I have 92 processes . Under resource monitor system is running the most threads, 145. I don't know what it means but the blue line on the CPU graph in the reource manager is always up at 100% apart from the odd dip to 95%.

Anyone with any ideas or solutions it would be very much appreciated!

Answer:Satellite R830 - 10C fan always running very fast

I think it was something to do with the CPU frequency that was running very high. I got rid of McAfee antivirus and that seems to have made a big difference. Also using google chrome not IE anyway seems to have reduced cpu frequency to now fluctuate between 40 and 80%. Fan much quieter. Don't know if that will help anyone

I need to replace the keyboard on my Satellite R830 as the space bar is not registering a press unless the middle of the bar is pressed.

New keyboards are available on ebay but can anyone please provide instructions on how the keyboard can be replaced. A search of the web has been unsuccessful so far.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:How to replace keyboard on Satellite R830?

Is your warranty valid?
In such case recommend contacting the ASP in your country to replace the kneeboard since this would be covered by warranty and it would be done free of charge.

As far as I know the keyboard replacement procedure is the same like for the R700 Portege series
It?s difficult because you will need to remove other parts like
Battery, sim card, express card slot, memory modules, base assembly to get access to an
aluminum tape from the back of the cover assembly. Then you could turn the cover assembly face up and peel off the keyboard adhered to the insulator.
And additionally you can not use the removed keyboard and keyboard insulator again. You will need to use new parts.

I have purchased a Satellite R830-1G1 recently.
It was advertised as having HDD with 320GB memory size. However, the HDD only displays 282GB total memory size.

Has anyone with this model had the same problem? How did you solve it?

Answer:Satellite R830 HDD memory size

There is no problem at all. Preinstalled OS uses small recovery partition, Toshiba recovery partition is also there and this is not included in capacity when you check it in windows explorer.

Open disc management option and there you can see exact partitions structure.

Following security updates on both my daughters Toshiba Satellite L350 the windows vista operating system is no longer working.
An error was detected on the system which indicated the follwing message.

Log on UI.exe - corrupt file
File or directory C/Program ~ 1 / Toshiba/Smart Face V is corrupt & unreadable.

I have tried to run a system restore to last configuration on both computers but still the same problem exists. I have also tried to restore both laptops to original factory settings but still the system does not work. I do not have a restore disc as the HDD Toshiba disc drive recovery is on the laptop.

Can anyone help me or suggest any way I can fix both of these laptops. It seems very strange that both of these computers have stopped working at the same time following automatic windows security updates in October 09.

Thanks Gary

Answer:Satellite L350: Vista no longer working - LogonUI.exe - corrupt file

As far as I know the LogonUI.exe is responsible for the login to Windows OS.
If this exe file is corrupt then you will not be able to login to the OS.

You don?t have the recovery disk but you have the HDD recovery on the second partition? this can be your last resort.

Power up the unit and press F8. Choose ?repair my computer?.
Then new window would appear providing the option called: ?HDD recovery?.

Choose this and check if you could start the HDD recovery procedure.

Cannot start up my Toshiba Satellite A200 running Vista.

I have tried the recovery disc, but it does not solve the problem.
The following message appears: Status: =xc0000428 (together with instructions that do not seem to help me at all).

What can I do?

Answer:Satellite A200 cannot start up - file header checksum is possibly corrupt

You mean the new OS installation using the Toshiba recovery disk didn?t help?
Hmmm? in such case it seems like a RAM issue?

I have searched a little bit in net regarding this error and found some info that this could be related to the faulty RAM.

You should try to check if only one RAM module is affected.
Otherwise you will have to replace both modules and then should try to reinstall the OS.

I would like to know if, with Windows 8.1 Update, there is a way to know if its installation has some of its corrupt file?

Answer:Finding corrupt file in an Windows 8.1 Update installation

The addition of Bye to your post kinda closes it.

It's always possible to have corruption in downloaded files but as we're moving away from Dial-Up Internet connections don't see it very often. The 8.1 Update is strictly a download from the Store for most users and automatically installs it would be presumed to be correct if Windows 8.1 Update completes then runs seemingly properly. I just did one, started the download on a Gateway before bed and all was good this morning. The Update wipes out the list of installed updates in Control Panel, Windows Update that were installed in 8.0 and I only had 6 updates to do today. I did have to do the 8.0 updates yesterday before 8.1 would start.

Just wondered if it's normal for my laptop to output a max of 1280x768 through HDMI to my 26" LCD TV?

Its a Satellite R830 i3 with hd3000 graphics. I have 8GB RAM. Tried under Windows 7 and 8 but the same.
Also tried custom resolution but it just says on the TV out of range.

Mt graphics driver is up to date and I had full hd working on this TV via another older laptop.

Any suggestions please?

Answer:Satellite R830 and video output through HDMI

I don?t know your LCD TV specifications but fact is that external resolution depends on three options:
graphic card driver, graphic card and the external device connected to notebook/computer.

So if your TV does not support an higher resolution, you will not be able to choose another resolution.
If your TV supports higher resolution but the graphic card driver and graphic chip would not support higher resolution, you will also not be able to use it.
