Satellite Clik 10 LX0W battery issue

Question: Satellite Clik 10 LX0W battery issue

Hello,

I seem to have an issue with the 2nd Battery on my Click 10. The notebook is about 1 month old. The 2nd battery is always at 100% and never depletes, so I only getting approx. 40% use out of battery 1 before it turns off. It does not give me a low battery warning as it normally shows around 55-60% remaining. I have looked at the handbook and believe that the 2nd battery should be used 1st but this does not seem to be the case on mine.
Has anyone had this issue before and if so how did you resolve it?

Many thanks for reading.

Hopefully there is someone out there who can help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, i have a click 10 that has recently started saying it is 'plugged in, not charging'.

Both batteries are available, and the dock battery is at 100%, whilst the tablet battery is discharging and will not charge in windows from the cable or the keyboard battery.

it also says 'plugged in, not charging' whether i take the cable out or leave it in.

i have tried the 'remove accpi drivers' trick, and i am running the most recent bios 1.7.

One strange thing to note is that undocked, the tablet will charge as normal, but when i remove the cable it stops charging as expected but still says 'plugged in, not charging'.

really confused with this and not sure what else to try.

also to note is that it charges perfectly fine when switched off using the supplied charger.

Hello all,
I have recently acquired a Satellite Click 10 LX0W Toshiba notebook.
The specifications says that it is compatible with micro SD with UHS-I (max. size: 128 GB)
According to SD Association, the Bus Mode UHS-I is compatible with UHS Speed classes 1 and 3 (http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/speed/)
However, the card I bought (Kingston 64 GB, micro SD XC I, UHS speed class 3) does not work properly in this notebook but it works perfect in other devices.
The card is recognised by the Satellite Click 10 but reading or writting is extremely slow and often give error messages. I cannot even format it using this notebook.
I think there is something wrong with the Toshiba notebook but can you give me your opinion please?

Thank you!
Regards,

Answer:MicroSD does not work with Satellite Click 10 LX0W

Same here

Toshiba click 10 with windows 10, micro SD card 64GB Kingston Class10 (UHS-1) does not work. Card is detected allright - can see it in Storage Manager, but can not format it. If I format it in some another device, Toshiba click 10 can not use it - it can not write to it - it will destroy ntfs/exFAT FS on card. Event viewer is full of SD card related errors.

Any suggestion here, please?

Driver is from 2006 (on windows 10) but can not find never anywhere.

Hello everybody.
I am new in the forum and i also have to admit i do not have a clue about laptops. The problem:

I have a SATELLITE CLICK 10 LX0W-C-104 with Windows 10. Although i do not have files and the total capacity of any programs that i have downloaded as extra is very small, approximately 5 Giga, i can not download the windows updates. It appears that i do not have enough space. Can i replace the 32 Giga SSD with something of bigger capacity like 128 GB? Someone told me to use a micro-sd card but is this only for files, like documents or images? Or should i just leave the windows not updated??

Any response will be helpfull

Thanks

Hi!

I just bought and Toshiba Click 10 Hybrid computer, but after using it for some time the sound starts crackling (will post a video when it happens again). Disabling the device in the playback devices, and enabling it again fixes the problem for some time, restarting the windows also fixes it. Also, it happens in the device speakers and in the headphone jack.

The user in this review, also reports the same problem.

Does anybody knows a fix for this problem.

Hiya,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-C-276 that is less than a year old and still within warranty. It is in brilliant condition as it rarely gets used. However, from the very 1st day I took it out of the box, the laptop suddenly shuts down without warning because of low battery when there is sufficient battery power left. It doesn't turn back on until it is plugged into the charger. When it boots back up after being plugged in, it doesn't show the battery power percentage as it shows how long it will take for the battery to fully charge instead (in hours/minutes). It then gets to "02 mins to full charge" but remains like that for a lot longer than 2 minutes before it eventually fully charges and the orange light turns to white.
I have already edited the settings to warn me when the battery power is low, but the warning messages still do not appear at all. The battery health also shows as "good" in the PC Health Monitor.
I was wondering if any of you have experienced this before, or have any tips on how to resolve it?
Thank you

Few days ago I've bought Toshiba Satellite c-50a-14w. The battery is being charged normally (to 100%), but when I plug the computer out the battery shows only 72% loaded.

Does it mean that the battery is broken?

Answer:Battery issue on new Satellite C50-A-14W

Hi

New battery should be calibrated in case to reach the full performance.

To calibrate the battery, you should charge the battery until the battery indicator would switch to green (or blue). Then disconnect the AC adaptor and keep the battery discharging until it would be fully empty.
This procedure should be repeated two, three times in the row.

If the battery charging status would not change even if the battery has been calibrated, you should get in contact with Toshiba authorized service provider to check or replace the battery.

Hello,

I bought a few days ago a new C50-A-19U Satellite notebook.

Everything works without problems except when I unplug the power cable, the battery level goes from 100% to 50% at once.

If I try to charge the notebook, the battery will charge normally up to 50% and then go from 50% to 100%.

Anyone else experience this problem?

I really don't know what may be the problem there. Try to use battery until it will be completely empty and let it be fully loaded again.

Please watch carefully if the same will happen again and send some feedback.

I've used this laptop for 4 months since i bought it in the shop(with warranty ofc), but today when i charged my laptop fully(100%), i unpluged adapter and noticed that the battery level changed to 95%. I guess, that kind of problems likely to happen to old batteries. Later i found out that battery is not charging higher that 95%. How can i fix it ?

Hi Community.

I bought this model of laptop back in August and I've noticed issues with the battery.

Recently the laptop shut down when the operating system reported it still had over one and a half hours of charge left. I recalibrated the battery and it was working fine again after that until about 10 days later when it repeated the same behavior.

I have checked the preinstalled Toshiba Health Monitor which is reporting the battery has no problems, I'm just wondering if anyone here has experienced this issue on this or a similar model?

I am currently using the "eco" power setting that is the default for this machine and the Operating System is Windows 8.1.

Are there any known problems with the recent Windows Operating System that cause it to misread the battery that I am perhaps unaware of?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Battery issue on Satellite L50-B-1NL

Windows system does not affect the battery performance but Windows system provides some battery settings in the Windows power options.

In control panel -> power options ? power plant settings -> Advanced options you will find the Battery settings.
There you can configure when the notebook should power off.

But to be honest I?m not sure if any settings would be responsible for your battery power issue.

It looks like the notebook does not report the correct battery power level? therefore I would recommend you to calibrate the battery once again? if the problem would still appear, you should replace the battery.

My Satellite C55-A's battery won't charge more than 47%. It's "plugged in and charging" but it won't charge over that level. I have tried everything, nothing works. I have a two year guarantee which hasn't expired but the store where I bought it claims that it's only six months for the battery. Is that so?

Hi all. I have just bought a P10 and am having a problem with the battery discharging itself whilst remaining on ac power after being fully charged.

Basically when the battery discharges the machine switches off and can't be rebooted successfully until about 1/2hour of recharge.

Surely if the machine is on AC supply the battery charge should be irrelavent to the opereation of the machine? Pretty much all other laptops aren't bothered by battery charge whilst on AC.

Is there a utility that disables this issue as there is nothing in the bios that is available to select. (BTW I HAVE ISNTALLED LATEST BIOS VERSION).
I have also blown out the hole thing with compressed air just in case there was an overheating issue.

Am Running XP Pro 512Mb DDR333Mhz 30Gig HDD 2.6GHz P4

This whole thing is making me very frustrated and am really beginning to regret purchasing the laptop.
I have been an I.T Professional for 10 years now and have never known such an problem.

Any Help, Advice, Links or fixes would be greatly appreciated so many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P10: Battery discharge issue

Hi

It?s very strange.
As far as I know the Toshiba power saver controls the power and cooling procedures.
If the AC adapter is plugged in, the power saver uses a ?full power? profile.
If the notebook runs with battery the power saver should use another profile with different settings. You should check which profile is used and the settings of this profile.
Check the CPU and the cooling module settings.

But if this doesn?t help so it could be something wrong with the hardware. But it?s not easy to say what is wrong. In this case you should contact the Toshiba service partner. He can start some diagnostic tests.

Dear support,
I have a problem with my battery, and searched some support online.
(it says "recommended to change the battery")

My problem is that i cannot ask for support online since TOSHIBA says that my pc type doesn't exist!
Sounds odd to me.

Toshiba Satellite L500-1W5 This is what's written below my pc.
Also the serial number doesn't exist...3A467845K

Could you please show me how to do?

Shall i follow the recommendation and use it without battery?

Answer:Re: Battery issue on my Satellite L500-1W5

Of course it exists. You can check it following http://www.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails
Just put serial number there and you will find info about it.

Can you please tell us which kind of problem do you have and which support have you contacted?
Have you contacted official Toshiba service provider in your country or some independent IT store?

Battery exchange is not big deal. When you remove the battery you can find part number on the sticker. Use this part number for order and problem is solved.

Hi all,

For the past few months my health monitor has warned me of the life on my battery depleting till I finally got tired and bought a new one..

Upgraded from a 6 cell to 9 cell... I know excellent decision huh.

Problem is now, the monitor still thinks the old battery is in and warns me I need to get a new battery...

Is there some setting i'm supposed to configure like I do with my printer when I install a new ink catridge or should it just detect it when installed.

I don?t know what notebook you have but with monitor do you mean PC health monitor from Toshiba?

If yes I would try to reinstall the program. You can download it on Toshiba page.

Ss far as I know there is nothing what you can do expect reinstalling the tool but normally it should work.

Hi,

I would just like some feedback on the expected useful life of the battery on my L50-A00M.
The computer is just over 2 years old.

It is not holding a charge and the onboard Toshiba health assessment is telling me to replace it.
Is this par for the course for this model?

Answer:Battery issue on Satellite L50-A00M

On some notebook models the batteries have longer life time and on some models batteries must be exchanged earlier. There is no some kind of “norm” about that.

What is exact notebook’s running time on battery power supply?
Long time ago I had L300 and battery was death after 2,5 years only.

Hi,

I've got this Toshiba Satellite C650 from a friend, who has given it to me to reinstall Windows7.

Before reinstalling I noticed that the laptop didn't turn on on battery. When I pluged the charger it started and once started it ran on battery without any problem. Also, when it's turned on and the charger is removed the battery icon does not show how much time remaining and show unknown time remaining instead.

When I reinstalled Windows the problem didn't solve.
I updated BIOS, but the problem still didn't solve.
I started to think that it's a hardware problem.

The laptop is brand new - one month old.

I'll be very grateful if someone could help me or point me to the solution of this problem.
The laptop is still under waranty, but I decided to ask here first and here some other opinions.

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite C650 - battery issue

Try this:
Remove and disconnect the battery and the AC adaptor.
Now leave and don?t touch the notebook for some time (2-3 hours)
Then press and hold power button 30 sec long.

Now connect the battery and the AC adaptor and keep it charged until the battery indicator would turn to green (or blue)
Then power up the unit and check how it works.

PS: its always advisable to calibrate a new battery? this means that the battery should be discharged fully and charged again until 100% has been reached.
This procedure should be repeated several times in the row

Hello,

Recently my SSD drive failed, I had a spare brand new one so I replaced it. Since replacing it I've been having issues with my battery. The laptop works fine when plugged in, however if I remove the AC plug the laptop will switch off (like unplugging a desktop PC). The battery shows up in device manager, the following is listed:

Microsoft AC Adaptor
Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
Microsoft Composite Battery

When the AC power is plugged in, the battery says charging and is stuck a 9%, it's been like that for days.

When replacing the SSD, I didn't touch anything else (well not that I know of), and made sure I was touching the SD slot (to ground any static). I'm not sure if that is the issue.

The ultrabook is just over a year old, and the battery was perfect before this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Jeremy.

Answer:Satellite Z830 - battery issue

In my opinion on this Satellite has different design and construction so such exchange should be done by authorized personal only. On this virtual way we cannot say much. Who know what is wrong there.

In my opinion it must be tested with another battery and just on this way you can see if the battery is troublemaker or anything else. I?m afraid you need professional help with this issue. Contact nearest Toshiba service and let them check battery and power supply electronic.

I bought my Dad a Satellite U400 10J laptop for his birthday just under 2 years ago. Being over 60 and not too enthusiatic about using a laptop, he left the unit in his cupboard for close to a year before turning on. The first problem materialsed with the laptop not turning on with the "Battery not recognised" error. Subsequent updating of the BIOS got the laptop to startup. However, despite now charging (or appearing to charge) the battery only retains about 10 minutes of charge. This has progressively gotten worse to the point that the only way to use the laptop is to keep it constantly plugged in. Which as you can imagine, limits the utility of having a laptop in the first place.

I did take it back to the retailer and since I had purchased a warrantly extension, was hoping that they would replace the battery. They refused indicating that the battery is not covered and that by not using the laptop intitially after purchase, I had in effect damaged the battery.

Is this possible? Can a battery to irrevocably damaged through inactivity? I think that the period was around 9 months during which he had not even unwrapped it from the box.

If it is, are replacement batteries an option or should I order an orginal Toshiba battery? Also, are there extended life battery options available for this model?

Thanks in advance

I own a satellite l555-123 which as of late, won't start (most of the time), not even without the battery and when on power. I managed to start it once, and what i saw was a popup that said "your battery is critical please change it as soon as possible" or something along these lines (but it normally got on windows and everything, it just couldn't last over 5 minutes running windows). I have 2 questions if you could be so kind to answer them.
Is it possible that it's not starting when it's on a power source without a battery on?
Which model's battery is also compatible with my model? Just to know in order to buy one

Satellite A300D is pretty old notebook model so I don?t think you can?t get new battery for free.
For more info contact nearest authorized service provider and clarify this.

In worst case you must buy battery and it cannot be so expensive. Remove the battery and check part number. Use Google and check prices in different online stores.

Hi,

My problem seems to have something to do with the integrated battery. It's a Sattelite P50A 14G that I bought a year and half ago. Enough to say that I'm really disappointed with this particular unit. The battery, after a few months, went from 1h50m to 10 minutes or so. Now it seems to be completely dead. What's worse, it seems that it's not being charged and, therefore, I'm not able to turn on the system! That is, I turn on the laptop, and after a while it goes off as if it's running out of battery, even when plugged into the wall. In other words, it looks like the laptop is, for whatever reason, not detecting, or doing so intermittently, that it's plugged to the wall and, as soon as I want to boot it, it goes into suspension. When I touch some key and get the windows screen it allows 20 or 30 seconds of "energy" till it goes off again into suspension mode--all this with the cable on!

My question is, can I remove the battery (obviously corrupted) from the unit and simply use the laptop as if it was adesktop? Or, do these new laptops with integrated batteries not work when saidbattery is removed?

Many thanks for your time,

Pablo

Answer:Satellite P50-A-14G - integratted battery issue

Of course you can remove the battery. You don't need to have it inside. You can use your notebook with AC power supply only.

Hi,

I've just bought a Toshiba Satellite L750 notebook. On first turning the machine on battery indicator said 'plugged in, not charging. So after browsing forums I found I had to update the BIOS which I did and now the battery charges. BUT I only get about 1 1/2 hours battery time before it runs down to 10% and i'm told to plug into A/C power.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

For me these or not issues i should be having on a 2 day old machine.

Thanks.

Answer:Battery Issue on Satellite L750

Hi,
you can configuration the power manager for more time in the battery mode.

use eco mode or balanced, it is also helpful when you set the display brightness down.

But it is also about what you do, now if you have applications that much power of your machine then that?s good 1 1/2 hours.

Hello

I purchased Satellite L50T-A196 a year ago and rarely used it on battery power.
Now when disconnecting it from electricity the battery charge drops rapidly (about 30 to 40 min) down to 9% and the weird thing it stays on 9% for over 2 1/2 hours before completely draining.

I googled this problem and found many ways to calibrate the battery but none worked.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have Toshiba Satellite A200 and recently I have had some software problems with charging it :(

When the battery is on 99-96% it doesn't start charging when i plug the cable (and says that the battery is on 100%).
If it is below 96% it starts charging, but it stays too long on 99% than before :(

Is anyone familiar what I should do in order to start charging even if it is on 97% ( for instance :) )?

Answer:Satellite A200: Battery charging issue

Haven't observed this charging behaviour, but I can tell too, that the percentage is longer on 99 then on others. Why, I don't know.
And I have not watched if it is charging from 96, above, or below.

I think this is normal and would not call this an issue.

Hi,
My laptop is a Satellite M70-165 PSM70E. I'm using Windows XP Home. I recently bought a new battery and it is impossible to charge it above 50%. I updated BIOS to 1.70 (for non Windows Vista users) and I still have the problems aforementioned. I tried to dischage it completely and charge it again, several times, with no luck.

Is there any solution?

One more question. There is no "EC version" in BIOS, only "BIOS version 1.70". I hoped there will be some battery calibration or power management after BIOS update, but there is no "Power Management" menu in BIOS.

Is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

You should definitely check another new battery? maybe you bought an already used battery???

On the Toshiba EU driver page you can find one BIOS update.
I assume such update contain the EC update too.

What to say; the coffe has been spilled on the notebook and any fluid is not really good for a internal parts especially for the motherboard.

I have no idea what part has been damaged exactly due to the spilled coffee but it looks like an motherboard part is affected. Maybe the power supply electronic is faulty?

I think the notebook needs an check? and don?t ask any pseudo amateur technicians because such guys just talk about possible issues.

The unit needs to be checked by an professional technician (Toshiba authorized service partner in your country) who has some special tools and diagnosis software.

My battery is currently saying 'consider replacing your battery' as it doesnt hold a charge completely. Had the laptop just over 2 years so I guess a replacement battery is needed.

Problem is I cant seem to find one compatible, or I am doing something wrong?
The first one i bought, the website clearly indicated it was for my laptop model, however when I connected it up the orange battery light would flash and the laptop wouldnt switch on. I charged it overnight, and same thing.

The second one I bought, again website clearly indicated it was for my laptop model, and again did the same as above.
Is there something I should be doing that I haven't done or have I just been unlucky with the batteries I have bought?
Laptop batteries aren't easy to return 'cos of Royal Mail restrictions so any help would be appreciated.

Why not? When you remove eh battery there you will find part number. All you must do is to order new one following this part number. And of course I recommend you to buy original Toshiba battery and not some cheap no name product.

By the way: follow batteries are listed as compatible

I've recently purchased this device (September 15) and having upgraded to windows 10 and Bios V5.00 I find that if I fully charge both batteries and shutdown windows 10 (Not in standby) then both batteries are flat 3 days later when I come to use it again! it also takes over 10 hours to fully charge when powered off and over 24 hours if left running.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal? Or have I got faulty batteries or device?

Thanks in advance

I have a new Satellite C50t-A-10J which has intermittent charging issues. Sometimes it charges ok other times it states plugged in not charging. When not charging if I click on the battery icon charging starts and continues ok.

Does anyone know of a more automatic solution? I have read about similar issue solved by uninstalling then reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager but am reluctant to try as the computer is new.

I can of course go back to the retailer but thought I would post just in case someone had a similar solution.

Thanks

I guess this is not system problem.
It looks like your battery is faulty and therefore I recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country to get an battery replacement.

Hi,

I've found a number of threads with similar issues, but none of the solutions worked for me, so here it goes:
I have an L500-1GE, which is about 6 years old, but hasn't been used much.
Since yesterday, it won't charge when plugged in, and when I pull the plug, it immediately shuts down (everything goes black suddenly), although it shows the battery to have about 25% power.

I have just installed the newest bios (2.10) from Toshiba's official site, but I don't know if this has anything to do with the aforementioned issue.

Should I just buy a new battery, or is there something to try before that?
Thanks!

After installing the battery from the fan (speed 0%) falls regardless of whether mains operation.

The CPU overheat and the notebook comes out spontaneously and can be only after few seconds on again.
Once I rausnehem the battery la?ft the fan again (about 70%) and cools the CPU.

According to PC Health Monitor battery health "good" (battery 1 year ago purchased new).

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C50-B919 which i bought 9 months ago... IT was working fine but all of a sudden it stopped working without the charger being plugged in!!!

I have to plug in the charger all the time!

On start up it shows that the RTC is low and i need to set the time... i tried following the instructions and had set the time as well...but it still didnt change any thing... once the charger is taken off it switches off!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Waiting for your response!

Answer:Battery charging Issue on Satellite C50-B919

Hi

RTC battery seems to be empty and therefore the BIOS data and time will be reset always when the AC adaptor isn?t connected.
To charge the RTC battery, you have to keep the AC adaptor connected for about 18-20 hours and the notebook must be ON!!!
Then the RTC battery would charge.

However, the main battery seems to be empty too and does not hold the charge anymore.
Probably you will need to replace the main battery.

My L755 is fairly new and was working fine. However, the battery is causing me concern. Today I turned on and the battery icon showed about 80%. I used the laptop, on battery, for around 10 minutes and the screen went blank and would not come back on.

I plugged in the mains and pressed the power button - it told me that is was recovering from a low power shutdown. I watched it charge, and it got to 80% in 15 minutes and sat there for 30 minutes before jumping to 100%. I unplugged the mains, and it went straight down to 80%. I suspect that the battery monitor software is to blame, but is there anything that I can do recalibrate it.

Then again, could it be a bad battery?

Answer:Battery Charging issue on Satellite L755-1LN

Hi

For me it sounds like battery issue? but try to calibrate the battery.
Remove/disconnect the AC adaptor and leave the notebook disconnected until the battery would be fully empty. Then connect the AC adaptor and leave it connected until the battery indictor would switch to green (or blue).

This procedure should be repeated two, three times to recalibrate the battery but if the battery is faulty this workaround would not help a lot.

Yesterday I bought U400-10N NB 13,3".
I have battery charge problem. I returned back to my seller and change notebook with same model.
But I have same charge problem. Comic - returned back again to my seller and they said that this is charging issue.

Problem: I plugged eclectric cable for finishing Vista system in new U400-10N. The battery lamp is red and battery connect problem write X on windows bar.
When I plugged off electric cable after 1 hour; the laptop has died. No battery life!

I called with Toshiba calling center in Istanbul. Nobody knows, nobody heard, nobody talk about it.

Sorry about my English.

Can you help me?

Answer:Satellite U400-10N: battery charging issue

Hi buddy

From my personal experience some computer dealers have no experience and from time to time they talk bu****t?
You shouldn?t believe everything what they said?

I read your message carefully and it would be very interesting to know if you used and connected the same AC adaptor to the U400 units.
According to your message a faulty AC adaptor could be possible!
Furthermore you should try different AC adaptors to ensure if an AC adaptor is ok.

If something is wrong with your hardware then make a call to the nearest local ASP (authorized service provider) and ask for the replacement or fix.
The guys should be able to help you...

Good luck and a feedback would be highly appreciated

Is battery on your Satellite notebook locked too?

By the way: when you use notebook on the desk this movement is not relevant and cannot have negative influence on notebook?s battery power supply.

My original battery is dead after four years. I figured I'm ok with the machine in general and decided to buy a new battery... I have found the following options on a local Russian online-shop, they say these models will fit my laptop (A100 psaan series):

PA3465U 4400mAh
PA3478U 6600mAh
PA3400U 8800mAh

My old battery is PA3399U-2BRS 4000 mAh

1. Will they really suit me?

2. Is it worth to buy a battery of larger capacity? (weight and dimensions are not critical, after all, the laptop is not so small; reliability and long service life is important)

3. Maybe, it's better to buy a "standard" size battery to ensure designed charge-discharge conditions or something? Will they be charged without problems like undercharging/overheating?

4. Not sure how "genuine" these components are... Maybe, someone could recommend a reliable supplier?

Thank you!

Hi There

Apologies if this question is in the wrong part of the forum but I need help with a battery problem for my Toshiba Laptop.

I have a Satellite A300 and have done for about 4 years.
The battery recently has not been holding charge and I put this down to age so ordered a new one online.
My previous battery had Model Number PA3534U-1BRS with DC 10.8v and 4000 mAh and my new battery is also PA3534U-1BRS with DC 10.8v and 4000 mAh.

The problem is that the computer doesn't seem to like it.
If I put the battery in and connect the power adaptor the red battery icon will show and remain for around 5 minutes before starting to flash.
When I turn the computer on and log in the computer displays 'battery not detected' in the battery icon on the toolbar.
I have not been able thus far to charge the battery.

What am I doing wrong ? Any ideas on how I can get around this ?

Any help gratefully received

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A300 - new battery compatibility issue

Hi

First of all there are no many things which need to be done if you replace the battery.
The new battery should be recognized automatically by Windows system and notebook.
If it?s not the case then the battery is not fully compatible or it malfunctions.

There are many batteries on the market; original parts and not original parts?
I recommend buying an original Toshiba batter from Toshiba service in your country.
In such case you can be 100% sure that you have bought an right and good part for your notebook.

Hiya People,

I have a Satellite P200 1EE Model Number :PSPB6E 0GM028EN. On Returning home from Uni a couple of Days ago my Laptop Refuses to switch the Laptop on and Only Switches on when i put a Power cable in.

I took the battery out cleaned it with a can of Air and put it back in and it worked however the next time i did it nothing happened.
Odd thing is that Once it is switched on it and i take the power lead out it works fine.

2nd problem is the built in Webcam software doesn't want to work for me. Sometimes and when I've restarted the laptop it works fine again.
I've tried reinstalling the Driver but it gives the warning that the newer is already installed on my laptop.
Am i right in thinking that its because of the Newer version?

How old is your notebook? Is warranty valid?

As far as I know the warranty covers the battery for one year. So maybe you should ask and ASP in your country for a check? Possibly the battery doesn?t functions as it should.

I don?t have a solution for you issue but I presume it?s related to the webcam software/driver.
You should visit the Toshiba European driver page from time to time and should check if an update is available.

Hello

I was wondering if anyone can help.

I have had my satelite P200-17c PSPB6E laptop for approximately 2 years. For the last 6 months the battery and AC adaptor have been progressively getting worse.

The AC adaptor now is very loose and i need to hold it in with one hand while using the laptop. The battery even with the AC charger in place does not increase ( it only shows 0% available, plugged in, charging). If the AC adaptor slips out, the laptop goes dead and i need to reload.

Essentially it seems the only thing keeping the laptop on, is the AC adaptor ( which itself is very loose).

I need to know whether this is a battery or AC adaptor problem. I have only had the laptop for a short period and would not have expected problems this early.

Thanks

Balal

Answer:Satellite P200-17c PSPB6E - battery and charger issue

Hello

In my opinion your notebook is pretty old (2 years) and such things can happen, mate.

But I think you need a new battery and AC/DC adaptor or mainboard. If the battery doesn?t charge with connected adaptor the case is clear: The battery is faulty because it will not be charged.

Regarding the connection problem of the AC/DC adaptor it?s hard to say because theoretically it could also be a problem of the socket on mainboard. Therefore you should ask a notebook technician. The technician can tell you what the problem is.

Hey,

My laptop (Satellite L 670) often has a charging problem.

First the laptop works normally, the power cord is plugged in and the battery is charging correctly.
Than, however the adapter is still plugged in, all of a sudden the charging stops.

Simultaneously two of three first indicating LEDs change:
* Normal mode: adapter LED = white, on/off LED = white, battery LED = red-orange
* Problem mode: adapter LED = white, on/off LED = no light, battery LED = pink & flashing

Some additional remarks:

- Sometimes when I pull out en replug the adapter the charging starts again, but sometimes it has zero effect.
- When the laptop is in sleeping mode or shut down charging happens without any problems.
- If I take out the battery and the laptop works only on the adapter, there is no problem.
- I've got the feeling that the charging problem often takes place when the cooling fan starts or stops spinning.

Any idea what my cause the problem?
A broken battery or adapter?
An intern problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite L670 charging issue - Pink battery led

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem can be and we can just speculate what the problem is. In my opinion there is some problem with power supply electronic so it should be checked by Toshiba service provider.

I have similar problem with old Satellite P200D. I?ve tested it with two AC adapters and two batteries. The problem is always the same so it must be power supply issue.

Is the warranty for your notebook still valid?

Second problem: After a BIOS update (the version from the site) with the same setting in Windows XP, after I let the lid down and then back up the notebook hesitates for about 2 seconds and the music stops. These problems were not present before the BIOS update.

Hello

BIOS battery can be replaced by authorized service only. to do this the whole notebook must be disassembled. By the way: check user?s manuals. There you will find info how to load BIOS battery.
If I remember well the notebook must be connected to AC adapter over 48 hours. Check it in manuals.

Maybe is my English bad but I don't understand second ?problem?.

Hi

I have a Satellite Pro U300 PSU31E and have problems with the critical bettery level and hibernate ever since I got it

It came supplied with Vista Business

The critical bettery level came set at 2% - the strage thing is if I hit hibernate (either via the power button or by start>hibernate) it hibernated ok - even at 2% battery remaining. However if I leave it to do it automatically (via Windows critical battery level and critical battery action) it just dies whilst hibernating - seems like it ran out of power. The only way I can get it to work automatically via Windows is by setting the critical battery level to 8% (it still dies whilst hibernating on anything less than 8%).

Normally you would just say ok the critical low level needs to be higher but a) why when I hibernate manually at less than 8% does it work perefectly and b) setting it at 8% loses me a good few minutes! and c) more importantly the computer or the battery dont think they're flat at 8% - the problem then is that it allows you to restart it. Then when the computer starts at less than 8% it has already missed its critical shut down point at 8% so just goes down and down with no further battery action until it dies. My XP laptop would shut down at 3% critical then the computer would know the battery is flat and not allow a restart until charged.

Is this a Vista or Toshiba thing?

Probably not the battery as I have 2 with exactly the same problem

I have all latest drivers for power... Read more

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro U300: Vista critical battery hibernate issue

Hi David

In my opinion it?s neither a Vista problem nor Satellite U300 issue.

The point is that the Vista OS needs a lot of hardware resources and more battery power as early Microsoft operating systems.

Fact is that same notebook with preinstalled Win XP would run much longer using the battery power as with Vista OS.
Vista is a monster and it eats all the hardware resources.

This means that if you use the Vista OS, you have to set that critical battery settings to a higher level to ensure that your notebook (Vista OS) would finish hibernate process correctly.

I think the last 2% of battery power are simply not enough to set the notebook into the hibernation mode.

So don't worry, lean back and enjoy your beautiful baby ;)

Hello everybody,

I would like to ask a few questions abou my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?

I have my laptop since august last year and I think it shouldn't be a problem of dust, because it is too "young" for that and I don't live in a "dusty" appartment...

Anyway, I think the "almost allways running fan" problem appeared about 2 months after I purchased the notebook. I have installed "Speedfan" and I see "HD0" temperature is increasing from about 30deg immediately after I start the laptop, to about 39deg after 1 hour.

But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behaviour normal???

Is the core temperature of 45-50deg normal? I am just using my laptop for Internet browsing, e-mails, etc., no complex 3d games!

The second thing is that the battery life is (and was from the beginning) not spectacular: it lasts max. 1,5 hours with wireless on, but normal use of laptop (not playing dvd's or something like this). Is this normal? If yes, is it because of the amd turion 64x2 processors?

Please help me with some advices / opinions.

P.S. I've bought my Toshiba as I was on trip in USA (NY).

> I would like to ask a few questions about my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?

I?m an owner of a Satellite A210. It?s similar to the A215. The A210 is a European model and the A215 belongs to the US notebook series.
I have noticed the same on my A210 and I think it?s normal behavior.

> But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behavior normal???
The CPU temperature of 40-60deg is nothing unusual.
The temperature could arise up to 70-80degrees while playing a game. So don?t worry about the temperature.
The cooling modules are controlled by BIOS. The fan table is stored in the BIOS and it contains informations about temperature limits and the cooling usage.
If a certain temperature level was reached the cooling module starts to rotate with a certain speed.

Now I would like to say something about the notebooks battery life time
Generally the battery life time depends on the notebooks usage.
While playing games or watching movies the battery would discharge much faster.

Anyway, your notebook was equipped with high-performance devices and as far as I know the Vista was preinstalled on this series. Both factors (high performance devices C... Read more

After changing my AC supply adapter (the old one no longer worked) I am having problems with the battery charging circuit.
When the adapter is plugged in and the laptop is switched off it charges the battery OK.

If I then power it up it will charge the battery until fully charged, the charge light will then turn blue for a few seconds and then go out.
The battery will then run down until it is fully discharged although the AC adapter is showing as connected.
Once the battery is fully depleted the laptop crashes. Once off it will start to charge again.

Anyone got any ideas to help me please.

Answer:Satellite P200-1EE: battery charging issue after replacing AC Adapter

Did you buy an original Toshiba AC Adapter or an aftermarket Adapter?

You should use a Toshiba Adapter to avoid problems like this.

Sounds like your Adapter may not be supplying enough Amps, or its the wrong Voltage.

Hi all.

First post and all that, I have had a look through to see if I can find my particular issue, and I don't think I can.

I posted this in a different sub-forum, but then realised it belongs here... d'oops!

An L850. It will work fine on battery, but will not power from the charger cable. Usefully, a colleague also has another L850 (I bought two together) so I can charge my battery seperately in his machine.

If I start the machine on a charged battery, it works fine. If you then plug in the mains adaptor, the lamp will light on the front of the machine, but it's clearly not charging as the machine works until the battery is flat, and then turns off, and will not turn back on until you independently charge the battery and put it back in.

Every time the machine is powered on, it also complains that the RTC battery is flat, and you have to set the time in the BIOS. This is the CR2032 coin cell internally on the motherboard isn't it?

what I cannot understand is that the unit clearly understands that the charger is plugged in, as the LED lights to say it is charging the battery. Except it isn't, and it's not keeing the unit on either. Battery works for about 40 mins these days, after that, machine dead.

Any ideas? I'm assuming there is something wrong with the charging circuit internally, but the fact that the LED lights when it is plugged in suggests otherwise..

Thanks for any ideas.

David.

Answer:Satellite L850 - Mains charger / battery issues, not the normal issue...

Bit more information on this. When plugged in, the icon on the screen says "Plugged in, charging", but the battery icon animates charging only for about 10 seconds, then stops, and the battery is clearly not charging as the % drops away slowly.

I found from a google that one fix is the "remove everything, hold power for 30 seconds, reconnect". This has made no difference. I've also found advice to uninstall the battery driver software from the device manager and allow it to re-install. Done this, still no different.

I've had the hard-disc out and in a USB caddy to recover all my files, and am now doing the "factory restore" option which I think is from a restoration partition on the hard disc. This is working away, but I think is still running on battery only, so not sure if it's going to complete!

Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? My HP laptop with Intel I 7 chip is running Windows 7 64 bit. The computer fan was racing and I was getting critical errors with the core temp approaching 210 degrees on cores 3, then 4, then 1. I ran anti Malwarebytes and it found 13 adwares which I removed. Upon restarting when I tried to clik on any icons on my desktop or in my taskbar nothing happened. I tried rebooting but this did not fix the issue. I tried several attempts of system restore and sometimes would get a black screen after restarting. I undid the system restore and in safe mode tried to find Windows errors but it said it found none.

What is causing this and how can I fix this without doing a full System recovery.

Since I can't clik any icons if I can even see the desktop when I do a system restore, I can't download your free SysInfo utility.

I hope you can assist me. Thank you!

Hi all,

have been visiting this site for a while, but never registered until today! Great site! Thank you for that!

Question:

I have a WD SATA drive which I exchanged from my box as it had the 'Click of Death". Is there any software/ freeware/ shareware available which could recover some of the data? I did do back ups but have a file which changes frequently during a week which I would love to recover,

thank you in advance,

Rainer

Answer:Recovering data from a 'Clik of Death' drive

Then If it is not completely dead,--If the old hard drive was only clicking, and did not die completely, you may be able to read it from the new drive.
Go - right click My Computer, click manage, go to disk management, and click on the old drive, and you should be able to read off it, , and copy what you want to the new drive.
If it is completely dead, nothing will help, other than specialists (ouch)
However there are ways to try to get stuff off, but I will come back.:wave

Clik on a favorites URL and sometimes it will open normally, sometimes not, keep on cliking and maybe it will go, right clik and clik on open and some times it opens, sometimes they open first clik, sometimes have to go thru the whole re clik process and sometimes they will not open, but will some other time. wierd.

any suggestions are appreciated. I do the delete temp option a lot and it has not helped.

any tips appreciated.

Answer:[Resolved] Explorer 6.0 favorites, clik on a URL won't open, try again, maybe

Your favorites folder may be damaged.

You could try the following:

Start up in MS-DOS.
Type the following lines, each line followed by clicking 'enter':

windows (unless you're in C:\Windows already, naturally)
ren favori~1 oldfav
exit (to return to Windows)

On rebooting a new Favorites folder will be created.
Move the contents of your Oldfav folder into the new one, and see whether this fixes the problem.

If that doesn't do the trick, try repairing IE: Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool

Good luck,

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but I can't find anything. searches on the web indicate similar problems going back to 2010 with XP and Win7 so it can't be all that difficult to figure. I noticed lately that I was drawing a lot of popups even saying Hmmm...can't reach that address. When I looked carefully I noticed I couldn't link to Groovy.com from their emails with url http://clicks.aweber/ etc but if I edited out the clicks. it would connect to the site.Other sites like Page Not Found simply won't connect and you can't edit the url to make it work. Click on Page not Found and see if it resolves - not for me.
I've looked at settings in 3 browsers, as Seamonkey, Edge, and Chrome all exhibit the same problem. There have been suggestions that wincock or tcpip may be corrupt so I used netshield to reset both at CMD line. Nothing seems to work and wonder if anyone has a suggestion what to look at or do?

I try to set apart my notebook(satellite 5205-s505) today. But I found the release latch had been damaged somehow. What can I do?

my lcd serious damaged. Can I have method to shut down the lcd to save power (just use external moniter)?

Answer:Satellite 5205-S505 - How to remove battery with damaged battery latch?

This with battery is very good question. I believe you are the first one who asked this.
If you cannot remove it the only way is, I believe, to disassemble whole notebook and somehow make the battery free.

When you use external monitor you should use FN+F5 key combination and switch to ?external monitor only?. Notebook?s LCD will be OFF.
You can also check advanced display settings. Usually there you can also find settings to define where the desktop should be shown.
Check it out!

Hello

I just purchased a Satellite L775-15q and I want to know the best plan to charge my battery, so it can last as long as possible.
Should I leave the laptop always connected on the charger power cord, no matter if it has full battery or not? Should I always let the battery drop to 10% and then charge it up to 100% and then remove the cord? Or should I do that from time to time and not every day?

Thanks!

Hi

I hope someone could help me with my problem.
My toshiba P200-1fc running Vista and updated to latest Bios will not show any light in the battery indicator led if running on battery power.
It's fine if i have it plugged into the mains.

I only updated the Bios to see if it sorted the problem .
The battery charges fine orange then blue to say fully charged but I only have the taskbar icon to see how much power is left.

Also the wife has got a U300 and the same problem has happend. I restored the laptop to a earlier time and this did not fix the problem.
I also unstalled some programs (antivius/firewall) but no joy.

It may be something simple i hope.
Thanks for any help

Answer:Satellite P200-1fc: battery led doesn't light if running on battery power

Sorry but you are completely wrong!!!

The battery LED doesn?t light if the AC adaptor was disconnected!!!

The battery LED shows only 2 signals; orange and blue (sometimes green on different models)

If the battery is not fully charged and the AC is connected the battery LED shows orange. If the battery is fully charged then the LED switches to blue (green)

Please don?t be mad at me but I think you should firstly check you user manual before posting some ?gossips? about any possible ?bugs??

Of course I read many messages abut battery issues but I have never ever seen an error notification by battery icon.

You could try to recalibrate the battery.
Discharge the battery completely. Then recharge it to 100%. Repeat this twice!
Then check how the notebook works.

But you should know that sooner or later your battery would die and you would need to replace the battery.

I need help with a problem to do with either the driver or BIOS of a Toshiba A300.
I'm running Windows 7 and lately I've been having a message saying 'Consider replacing battery'. I know this is a well known problem.

There should be a workaround otherwise Windows 7 has drained my battery.

Answer:Satellite A300: Win7 shows battery message - Consider replacing battery

Hi mate

Please check this Toshiba document:
+Notfication in the battery meter of Windows 7 "Consider replacing your battery".+
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0302U30000R01.htm

According to Microsoft this message is correct and the battery is really end of life (<40%).
There's no need to update the BIOS as discussed on several websites in the Internet.

My S430 is running Win 7 Pro. Until yesterday it was functioning fine. Yesterday it shut down when the battery ran out with the Windows 'Critical Battery Issue' message. It was closed and was meant to be in Sleep mode.  After charging overnight 10+ hours the Windows battery meter says that the battery is at 0%. The Lenovo battery meter says that it is at 0%.  Clearly, it should have fully recharged by now. I have tried restarting the laptop etc. with no change.  So now either the battery is not charging, or, both meters are reading it wrongly. How can I resolve this problem?

Please replace the battery with the correct lenovo battery for this system,''I tried troubleshooting my uninstalling and reinstalling the Lenovo Power Manager.  I also updated the BIOS.  Neither of those gave me any luck.  I tried getting rid of the microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery, but that keeps coming back.  Any help out there?  Thanks!Aaron

Answer:T430 Battery issue '' The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge."

I can think of two choices for your situation. Buy the Lenovo sourced battery or uninstall power manager and work only with the Windows ACPI power interface. I had similar issue with a much older laptop and uninstalling power manager allowed me to use the aftermarket battery with out the nag screens.

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

Hi there, I've been having some weird battery problems over the last few days:

I had charged my laptop fully to 100%, and was then using it on the train on my way home (in Windows 7 64 bit), at which point I got it down to about 70%, shut it off normally, put it in my bag and left it there until I got home. When I got home, I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't turn on, and had the flashing orange battery light indicating it had no charge. I plugged it in and it worked like normal (in linux), so didn't think too hard about it.

Later on, I realised that the battery was still charging after longer than it should have been, and running the +acpi+ command (linux) told me the battery was +Charging, 0%, charging at zero rate - will never fully charge.+ I unplugged it to see if it worked, and the battery lasted like usual, although still reported it was at 0% charge rate.

I booted into Windows 7, and the battery reported it was at 68%, so I assumed it was back to normal. A while later I noticed it was still at 68%, despite having been plugged in for a while - at least an hour. Booting into linux, acpi showed normal looking battery data, except that it was "stuck" at 68%.

I unplugged the laptop and ran it like normal, and it ran until it cut out; I assume from it running out of battery. I plugged it back in and it is "charging" again, although it is still at 0% battery and "charging at zero rate".

Before all of this happened, the battery ... Read more

But you could try to remove the battery and should fit it again in order to check if there are some loose contacts or something like that?

If this is not the case then get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP and order the battery which is recommended by Toshiba.

My L755 has always struggled with battery life. From new, it was only managing a little over one hour and it was no surprise when it booted up one day with an ugly red cross over the battery and a suggestion that I might like to consider replacing the battery.

I went to Amazon and bought a 'genuine brand new Toshiba battery'.
The battery arrived, it is the right part number, but I was immediately suspicious because the battery had stickers on it that did not seem correct and a manufacturing date in 2010.

The sticker that bothered me most stated that it might contain NiCad, NiMH or Li-Ion cells -
I am sure that Toshiba are more professional than to randomly build the packs.

Sure enough, when fitted to the laptop I get a flashing battery light and it shows no interest in booting up. Should I give it a few hours to charge and try again, or go straight to Trading Standards to try and get the cowboy supplier investigated?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L755 - Battery Problem - Suspect phoney battery

Hi

Notebook should be able to boot up also if the battery is empty but connected to the AC adaptor.
If the battery is new, you should consider an longer charging. But as mentioned: even if its empty, the unit should power on and the battery should start to charge after the AC adaptor has been connected.

From my point of view and according to your message, it looks like the battery isn?t ok.
So would recommend to replace it.

By the way: I would recommend purchasing the battery from authorized Toshiba service partner in your country. In such case you can be 100% sure that such battery is an genuine product and compatible with your notebook. Many different internet reseller provide ?low budget? and ?low quality? batteries and sell such batteries as an ?brand-name? product / article.

Until one day the charger stopped charging on and off. I unplugged it a few times and then it stopped working. I let the battery die after. I am guessing that it stopped working because i may have screwed up the charger socket by tripping on the cord thus pulling on it im not really sure anymore. Hello there,

Let me try to resume the situation clearly enough.

Product : Toshiba Satellite A110-149

Works fine on AC adapter (just a resume from standby issue but that's because of Gentoo Linux, this used to work under Windows XP)

Original battery was dead. Not only didn't it charge but with both this battery and the AC adapter absolutly nothing happened, not a single LED on. No need to mention I couldn't turn the comp on.

Bought a new battery at AboutBatteries.com
- Replace: PA3465U-1BRS | 10.8V | 6600mAh (71Wh)

With this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged I have the power green led and the orange charging led on. But even after 8 hours and computer off the battery hasn't charged.
If I try to turn the comp on with this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged in it starts running but after a while it shuts down automatically, not matter wether I boot or enter BIOS.

BIOS is Phoenix v1.50 and I reset settings to default.
By the way, downloaded the last OS independent 1.70-WIN (bios-20090121162419.zip) but is there a way to update it without Windows?

I've tried to unplugged everything and press the power button several times (last try i kept pressing for more than 2 minutes for what that matters)

I've clean the contacts with alcohol.

Could this be because of a fuse or capacitor I could replace myself or something?

Any help would be appreciate.

Regards,
Charly

Answer:Satellite A110 Battery won't charge & won't run if battery is plugged in

Hi

I?m not quite sure what happened to the notebook but first of all you should know that notebook should power up and should run properly if the AC adaptor is connected.
The battery isn?t necessary in order to power up the unit if the AC adaptor provide the power to the notebook.

So if ONLY the battery would be affected, the unit should still run at mains.

Therefore I think its an serious hardware issue? for example motherboard problem.

If I have opened any window and then try to double-click on desktop icon I need to click tree times to make it work. Does anyone have same problem or is it just on my PC? (Windows 7 x64 upgraded from Vista)

Answer:Problem with double-clik on desktop icon, must triple-click

No, I don't see that behavior. The doubleclick to open feature works fine on my system without a third click to change focus from any app that has it at that moment. It would be video driver failure, or a damaged system file doing that.

I did all the XP recommended updates before I used it. So I'm not sure it was the problem when the machine was just out of box.
