I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I have a strange thing going on with my fan, she keeps making a loud noise despite the laptop is cool.

What is even stranger is when i play a game, the laptop become hotter of course and the fan start turning with high speed but with a normal noise, it almost disappears after 15min gaming or so..
and when i close the game the laptop starts to cool down and the fan starts to be loud.
btw, i opened the laptop, and i cleaned the every component, i disassembled the fan and cleaned it, it wasn't that dirty since the laptop is almost two years old, but i didn't renew the thermal paste in the cpu or the graphic card. but i dont think that matters since the laptop is cool when the fan is being noisy.

Hi ,

I have a strange thing going on with the fan, it makes a loud noise when the laptop is at cool temperature.

Other strange thing is when i open a demanding app like games, the laptop starts to be hotter of course and the fan became to her normal sound. when i close the game, the laptop gets cooler and the noise of the fan cameback.
i opened the laptop and i cleaned the components, such as the fan, and nothing has changed.
since the temperature is low i dont think i have to change the thermal paste in the cpu and the gpu.

tldr; loud strange noise of fan when laptop is cool, and a normal sound while opening a demanding app.

I bought L555-12V at MediaMarkt two days ago. The fan noise is terribly loud.
The fan turns at 70-80% with a CPU load of just 2 or 3 % when just surfing with firefox and no other open programs.

It sounds like a hair-drier. It's so loud you can't stand to be near the laptop for more than 10 minutes. This makes it impossible to work with.

I have tried everything. Uninstalled unnecessary software, altered the Windows power profiles, changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.

Is anyone else having these problems with fan noise?

Is this the same problem that A500 owners had with the BIOS 1.20 on their machines?

Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
This cured their fan noise fault. At present there is no new BIOS posted on the support page.

If not I will have to take the laptop back for a refund. I would find that a shame as the laptop seems otherwise fine. However this machine is unusable for any length of time in it's current state.

Answer:Loud fan noise on Satellite L555-12V

> changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.

maximum performance means that the cooling modules would run with full power. This means that the fan will run always!

battery optimized means that the cooling fans will start to rotate only if the temperature would reach an certain level? therefore the cooling modules goes off if the temperature would decreases and would start again if the temperature level would increase?

> Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
Who knows? I have checked the Toshiba European driver page and didn?t find an BIOS update for L555-12V (PSLWSE) series? I found a BIOS only for PSLW8E series?

However, I think you should wait a little bit and should check the driver page in the next time? maybe new BIOS would be available?

Hello,

I just purchased the Toshiba Satellite Z830 - 10J and am very surprised by the loud fan noise!

I read on other forums that the noise might be louder depending on the device or that a BIOS update might help slowing down the fan activity when the laptop is running idle. Does someone know if there is a remedy to the fan noise?

For me it is really impossible to work with such an ongoing noise!!!

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Loud Fan noise on Satellite Z830-10J

At the moment don?t think about BIOS update.
What you should try at first is to change ?Cooling method settings?.

Open power profile that you use (probably Balanced) > Advanced power options > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > Cooling Method and change both options to ?Battery Optimized?.

It should reduce cooling fan activity.

Hi there!

I helped my neighbour to find a new laptop, and the whole setup and startup.

We ordered a C670-11Q and it works really well, theres just one annoyance.
The disc makes some loud clicking noises, not like a dying or working disc. It's the same sound as when you turn of a disc, just much louder. I guess it's the "disc reading arm" that goes into it's safe position.

I don't know if this laptop has a shock sensor to do this? The laptop was sitting flat on the table, and there where NO vibrations while it's doing it. There are no clicks while under load, but they occur randomly while idling or normal surfing/writing.

I also checked power saving options and disabled them to turn of the disc, no help.
This also seemed weird, because the clicks often occur several times in a row. But it definitely does it more when running on battery.

I'm running the newest BIOS and drivers from the support area (as of yesterday).
The disc is set to performance mode, i didn't test battery saving - should i?

And no, the disc hasen't taken any beating. I was the first person to turn it on.

The drive is from Hitachi, i ran their analysis - no errors.

Any help is greatly appreciated :o)

One of my notebook?s HDD makes such noise too.

I?m not exactly sure why but I think also that this is the disks head which moves into save position.

However, I think that this is not really a malfunction since the notebook runs pretty well and I didn?t notice any problems with the HDD or the files? but I created a backup of my files? just to be safe ? you know?
I think you should backup the date just to be safe?

Hello

Today I was playing my games, as usual until my laptop starting making very, very loud buzzing noises. I instantly turned off the laptop. Left if for a bit and turned back on. Again, extremely loud noises. I'm scared to turn it back on now. Im thinking it's the fan as that is where the noise is coming from but I can't be sure.

Any advice on what to do? Any one else had this problem?

Thanks

Answer:My Satellite C855 is making very loud noise

On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is but I can imagine that cooling fan is responsible for this.
From the first moment when you switch your notebook ON cooling fan is active so I would like to know if you can hear this noise from the first second after start-up.

Is there some other kind of vibration?

Of course it is also interesting to know if your notebook has valid warranty or not. If yes I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
They can order and exchange cooling vent.

Hello,

Recently my laptop cooling fan started running continously with a loud noise. When the screen is idle it stops for few sec and starts again. I have changed the power options to balanced in control panel but it didnt work. Even the BIOS is the latest one. Refering to discussion forums I have changed to 'selective start up' thru 'msconfig' but nothing worked.

It is 8 months old. The noise is very disturbing. Can anyone please help me in this regard?

Hi buddy,

I never heard about something like this?

Have you already tested it with battery optimized cooling method? Balanced power profile uses also maximum performance for cooling so you have to edit the power profile and choose battery optimized cooling for every power profile on battery and AC adapter. An information about all power plan options you can find here:

You wrote that your notebook is already 8 months old. Did you clean it in the past?

Hello,

yesterday I have buy the Satellite P200-1ft.

The problem: the second harddisk is very loud.
I never heard a notebook that is so loud like this thing, it's never normal.

Can I send the harddisk to toshiba or must I send the complete Notebook to reclame the harddisk?

Answer:Satellite P200-1ft: second harddisk makes a loud noise

Hi Uli

You cannot send only a notebook part to the Toshiba authorized service provider.
If you think something is wrong with the HDD then you have to contact the ASP in your country and the guys should be able to help you.

But note; if the HDD is loud then this doesn?t mean that there is a hardware malfunction.
My HDD clicks and makes some noises since 3 years but it runs well, without any troubles?

Hi,

have bought few month's ago Toshiba Satellite U400 and everything was perfect and i just bought it because i do not like sounds.
When i surf on the net i like it to be quite, but these last 5 days it has started to sound.

Toshiba U400 works and it takes out to much "Air" from the side and just sound all the time, even if i open IE or MSN or anything, and before it just did sometime but now it does often.

Please help me because this is very annoying and it sounds to much, and i do not like it, why has this start to happend now and not before? and what can i do about it?

thnx.

Answer:Satellite U400 - loud noise coming from cooling modules

Hi

What you can do?
Well, first of all you have to ensure that your cooling modules holes are free of dust.
I recommend using the compressed air spray in order to remove the dust from cooling grilles and fans.
In most cases the dust prevents the air circulation which causes a higher temperature and therefore fans would rotate faster.

Secondly you could change the power saver settings to ?more battery like?.
If you are using Win XP then you should check the Toshiba Power Saver.
There you could set the CPU processing speed and cooling performance to a lower level

Hello, My name is Maria and I am from Moscow.

I have purchased this laptop (Toshiba Satelite L 670-15) on 16th of december 2010 and from the very beginning I had problems with it. Before I managed to install any programs, it said to me: " There isn't enough memory", I couldn't install important updates and software was working very slow. I took it to the service center RSS and by warranty they changed a harddrive there and reinstalled Windows.

Later, approximately in a month, my laptop began to get hot, very bad, like iron and to turn off. My friend cleaned and blew the laptop with a canned air. First three weeks it worked good, then the problem repeated. Before the end of my warranty period left not so many time and I took it to the service center again.

They took my laptop and said: "Your laptop is getting hot, it needs to be cleaned, it is not warranty fixing and it will cost 1750 rubles (about 54 dollars). Is it normal? Why at least on the warranty period you can not offer me a free fixing? In the service center I was told, that there was no any other problems, except of dust, but I'm always using my laptop at home, it's very clean here and no dust, I use the laptop, according to user's manual and I don't understand how in such a short period of time it's getting so dirty, that I can not work on it!

I?m afraid the ASP is right and this is not warranty case?

It?s nothing unusual that notebook?s cooling fans needs to be cleaned from time to time. I do that with my two different notebooks from different manufacturers.
I use my notebook at home, the other while traveling and both needs to be cleaned. I use a simple compressed air spray to get the dust removed.
This is good enough to keep the cooling modules clean.

Here is a nice and useful document from Toshiba knowledge base:

But if cleaning the cooling modules does not help, I would recommend changing the settings in power management of the Win 7.
Go to:
Changes in Operating System:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method

Here try the setting: Max performance.

Furthermore go to TOSHIBA HW Setup -->... Read more

Anyone had this? Machine only a couple of months old. Just desktop usage. Has happened about 3 times now.

Suddenly makes very loud noise - more like a road drill than anything else - then crashes.

Answer:Satellite Pro L850 - very loud buzzing/drilling noise before crashing

Is this noise produced by cooling fan or HDD activity? Maybe both of them?

Of course it is not easy to say what is wrong there but I presume some background activity may be responsible for that.
Or have you noticed that some application that you use ends with system crash.

I specifically bought the Toshiba Satellite (my fourth in a row) to take advantage of the lovely harmon/kardon speakers.

I find that the volume is going loud and soft all the time, specifically going softer when there appears to be something in the music (or whatever Im listening to) that would normally go louder. It's almost as if it is trying to 'normalise' the volume. Whatever is happening, it sounds terrible.

I've done a quick search on thee forums and I can't see a solution. I have seen on the greater internets (simply google Toshiba loud soft" and it pops up) someone else with the same problem.

I've messed around with the sound for hours at a time and had absolutely no luck.

Does anyone know whether the toshiba digitizer pen would work on the satellite radius 12 ?

I dont really care about the eraser function, I just want to have a pen that would allow me to write directly on the screen more smoothly.
I have tried many other capactive pens but I am not happy about them. They just simply cannot catch up the speed I write.

on the description page of toshiba, it says it is compatible on Toshiba pen-enabled devices only and I could not find the pen setting on the laptop.

Does it mean the pen wont work on the laptop at all? Has anyone tired it?

Can anyone having this model of laptop recommend any pen that works?

Thank you very much

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

My satellite-radius laptop had a serious problem connecting to the internet shortly after I purchased it. I sent it to Toshiba to repair the problem but it was not fixed. To make matters worse, they did not put it back correctly. Several screws fell out and now the fan doesn't work and as soon as the error message pops up, the entire laptop shuts down. Do I have any options here?
I received the following message:
"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately and return it for service."

Hi,

I'd like to preface this post by saying that I am incredibly confused and somewhat shocked that there are literally ZERO resources available online, published by Toshiba, that give instructions on how to disassemble the laptop you buy!

I purchased a Satellite Radius 12 from Curry's for ?700. It only came with a 256gb SSD, so I thought I'd research sum to find out what kind so that I could upgrade it, lo-and-behold, it took me almost a whole day to find out, from a trustworthy source, that it takes 2280 m.2 SSDs. That's fine though, that's great and okay! The next thing was the ram, I wanted to upgrade that to 16gb (2x8gb). I research everywhere and find out the size and model, everything seems ok, fine, yay!

Then the real issue begins. My laptop arrives and, after the excitement wears off, I'm left with a bunch of amazon packages and some really useless documentation provided by Toshiba. I have NO idea where to begin, there is no disassembly/maintenance/service manual included, you're just given the laptop and some instructions on how to use a desktop PC without sore shoulders? Okay.

Right, anyway, I apologize if I sound annoyed (I am), it's just that this really SMALL issue has because a whole lot bigger, for really no reason other than due to Toshiba's laziness.TL;DR: Could you guys give me some instructions in how I open up this laptop, so that I don't break any clips on the backplate by doing it the wrong way, or whatever? I would really appreciate that. ... Read more

Hi
I've checked the "knowledge base" and faq and searched for similar topics in the forum but the system tells me this is the first query of it's kind despite the web being full of comment.

I have a sat radius 12 i7 win 10, 2 days old and the mouse pointer has started to stick, freezing for several seconds time after time for no re-creatable reason that I can find. I've checked the driver and it's up to date. I'm sure no relevant processes are disabled - in short, I'm stuck unless I try some of the general google search tips like disconnect the battery, press f9 and f10 after boot etc which I don't see as making sense.

I wonder if anyone has experienced this and has some wise words please?

Thanks
Tom

Answer:Satellite Radius 12 - mouse freezes

Hi Tom,

I think you mean the touchpad freezing......or are you using an external mouse. If it is the former then I had/have the same problem. I have to use an external mouse to solve this problem. I know that is not good especially when you are on a train or a plane. I am hoping that Toshiba bring out a W10 Touchpad driver for this that will solve this problem. I noticed on my other Toshiba laptop that there is a separate Touchpad driver. (Actually I had the same problem with my Satellite C55, but it was resolved when I loaded the Touchpad driver). I am hoping that they release a Touchpad driver soon.

Cheers,

Question: A Very Loud Noise

I was working in the computer area one night. Of four computers, I was using two, one had been shut down for the night, and the last had been left on, but was unused.Suddenly the room was filled with a very loud noise. We are talking quite loud, almost like a fire alarm - uncomfortably loud to the ears. My first thought was an alarm on the UPS. I checked it, and it was fine. Then I thought maybe a fan bearing gone bad on one of the computers. I shut down the one not being used. Nothing. So then in spite of losing work, I felt it urgent enough to immediately shut down the two computers I was using. Nothing. So my next thought was fans in the room. Shut them down - nothing. Then I thought maybe the lights. Nothing. So my final thing was to unplug the computer that was already shut off - Bingo! What a surprise. I wasn't sure if the noise was from the computer or from the surge protector it was plugged into, so I ran an extension cord across the room. It ran fine about 3 days and then the noise came again, not quite as loud this time, but still loud.So I am thinking power supply or motherboard. The frequency and texture of the sound is the same as the squeal you get from the computer when you disconnect the power and the electricity drains from the system, except that that sound is mildly soft, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the sound. So I'm thinking maybe the motherboard is alarming me about something, but why so loud? And why continuous and won't go of... Read more

Google SpeedFan.

It allows you to vary the speed of your internal fans. Mess around with it til you get a stable, low temperature and desired noise output.

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my pc from 1.5gb to 2.5gb as it seemed to be getting pretty slow. I was expecting a pretty big jump in performance but it doesn't seem to have happened.

The pc can sometimes be faster than it was and sometimes it really drags. There is also an intermittent loud noise which i believe is coming from the fan and when this happens the pc is slow.

I took out the fan and cleaned all the dust from it but this noise still starts every couple of minutes and the pc becomes slow.

Any ideas?

Answer:Loud Noise from PC. Don't think it is the HDD

Two things to consider...
The amount of memory doesn't have much to do with speed unless some process can specifically use that extra memory. You can to more things well, but not necessarily more rapidly.

You system will utilize all memory at the speed of the slowest module. If you have some memory that is value ram or other inexpensive ram, the timings could be significantly different than the best brands and models.

Your system only uses what memory it needs, not what you want it to use. As long as the RAM meets the requirements of the motherboard, it will not protest.

If you want some programs to run at optimum performance levels, all memory must be identical. It is wise to buy matched sets of RAM from the same manufacturer at the same time to get the ultimate performance. Top memory is already sold in matched sets in the same plastic wrap. Otherwise, you have to look at the timings and other information posted on the package or the label.

My laptop is working, however when I turn it on it'll show the toshiba logo as it usually would but then the screen will go black with the mouse pad still still working.
This laptop has given me issues prior to this occurrence and I am hesitant to go ahead and use the warranty on it if this issue is fixable.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I bought the laptop three days ago before I MOVED country! It's bad enough that it won't turn on but I'm literally screwed as the shop k purchased it in does not have chains here.

Laptop worked fine yesterday. Went to turn it on there and the screen just flicks. It's flicking black to a lighter shade black, aren't noticeable.

The key pad is unresponsive. I've tried by pressing caps lock, no light comes on.

I've tried connection via HDMI to TV nothing.

The fan is comes on.

The power light comes on.

The wireless light at the front comes on.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm lost here.

Let me preface this by saying it is my 10th attempt to write this.
I bought a Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 - C003 CVT DNX last November in Sydney and it ran fairly well for almost 2 months. In the 2 months it crashed a total of 3 times. I didn't mind as it was didn't happen very often and wasn't a big inconvenience at the time. However, since moving to the UK at the start of January, the laptop does not stop crashing. It crashes every 2 to 5 minutes. I will be doing something and suddenly and silently the screen will go black, and then act as if it was turning on, running through all the usual turning on routines, giving me no indication by the crash occurred, no error message or anything. I can have many to no programs open and it is not an overheating issue. Please help me solve this as it is currently my only connection to the internet so I just have to work through the crashing (thus the 10th attempt).
Thanks in advance.

Answer:New Satellite Radius 14-C003 continually crashing

I have a Satellite Radius L40W-C which I bought in Nov 2015 and it did the same thing - restarted without warning every week or so. It is now becoming more frequent, to 2-3 times per day. It's not overheating and there is no warning.

There is also no error message when it restarts. I have Windows 10 and have the settings set to advise me about restarting after an update. Some answer to fix this would be great.

Hi,

I wonder how to set compatible resolution for my Toshiba satellite radius 12 p20w--106? I am using the default 3840 x 2160 resolution but most programs I run become very small particular text and fonts it is hard to ready. If I try to change to another resolution settings also it is not good! It either too big fonts and text or display complete awful. I'm really not happy with 4k display now as most my program don't run properly anymore.

How do I solve this issue?

Hi! I purchased Yoga 900 (part number 90UE002VUS) - 16GB Memory with 512 GB SSD. I hear the fan running loud and continuously even after closing all the applications. Is this normal? I thought SSD's are supposed to be ultra quiet, but this unit has an i7 processor, so maybe it's the processor that's forcing the fan to stay on. However the only application that I've set to run in the background is Sophos Anti-Virus. But even with that app turned off, I hear the fan come on very frequently and stay on with a loud noise for extended periods of time.I wonder whether I have a defective unit and need to get it replaced. If others have experienced this problem and found a solution, I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks

I am running windows 7 on a Dell desktop computer. It has started making a very annoying and loud squealing noise. I have cleaned the dust from inside thinking it may be overheating. I also wiggled the boards to make sure all were seated good. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this and how to stop it? Thanks

Answer:Loud Squealing Noise

Try disconnecting any case fans one at a time and see if the noise stops.......if it does then you have a fan that is on it's way out......

I have a ~2 year old PC, that upon starting has a very loud fan noise, which gradually dies down after ~2 minutes, approx. when entering windows.
I attach a zip file with recording.
Occasionally the PC has become unresponsize as CPU working flat-out.

My PC spec can be viewed in my sig, it did come with a larger fan than required inside for cooling, and I have since doublede the RAM to 8Gb (after which I did experinece some other issues here).

Any ideas, or suggestion of further diagnostics I can do would be appreciated?

Question: Loud buzzing noise

Hello!

I have a year-old Lenovo G500 laptop, and recently it started doing this loud, buzzing sound quite often, even when there's only one program opened. I checked CPU and disk usage the first few times it happened, but they're fairly low. I'm not really tech-savvy, so I'm not exactly sure if the sound is coming from a fan or is it HDD. I do know for sure that the fan isn't dusty, when I brought it to a tech shop they told me there's no need for a cleaning. I'm sorry if the question is stupid, but the frequent loud sound makes me worried and I can't be sure if it's just laptop's normal sound or not. Any help appreciated.

Answer:Loud buzzing noise

Can be coming from a fan, be first thought even if not dirty can be going bad, something is loose and rubbing on it, also can be power supply which also have fans and or the hard drive. Know which side hard drive is on on laptop. This is not coming from the speakers ? How is it when it is plugged in, does this only happen on a battery ?

Hello, So this started happening when I was moving the laptop one day (when it was on) the fan suddenly got very loud and the whole laptop was vibrating, it sounded like the fan was touching something while it spins which made the vibrating and loud noise, it sounds exactly like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkCLubSukzI I fixed it by restarting the laptop (sleep works too, seems like whatever makes the fan stop) but now it randomly happens, the normal noise of the fan has changed and it sometimes gets that loud again as showed in the video and then I have to restart to fix it. I've tried to open the laptop but some screws were too hard and stuck lol so I gave up. and I've cleaned the vents from dust.

I bought the laptop a week ago and im loving it but the fan is really loud.So as soon as i start ANY type of game, the fan starts immediately and the noise level is intense so i downloaded db measurer on my phone, made my room complete quiet, started up lol client, turn on db measurer on my phone, place it on the left of the laptop and i read numbers flashing bw 55~65. This was the same for every other gamesi read a bunch of reviews on 510p beforr buying it but I never read anything about fan noise being loud. My measurement probably isnt accurate as it cud be because it was measured on a phone, but i think its still too loud. Is something wrong with my machine?

Answer:y510p fan noise too loud

The laptop gets very hot so the fans have to run fast. I can't hear your laptop but I have a feeling you are hearing the standard noise form these fans.

Question: Realtek loud noise

Hello,

I have Realtek Microphone in Recording settings of sound and Realtek Digital Output in Playback.

I did not make any updates for my Windows 10 64-bit for last few weeks or changes in settings, and this problem stats when I start my computer today.

I tried to use Skype, but it turned out that my microphone stopped working, my voice is not heard. Then I tried to record voice with sound forge and same here, it should be noted that I do not get just an empty track with zero sound, record just does not happen. It is different things. But most horrible thing I got now is a very loud noise which almost hurts your ears. Noise occurs if I'm trying record something, answer to the skype, and also I got some low clicking sound of very loud short sound each time I'm trying to on video or audio, or switch it with timeline.

I've updated all drivers in Device Manager:

Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio)

and it says the best driver software for your device is already installed.

So I have no idea what to do. Can't get if it is system problem or something wrong with hardware.

Whenever i start up a game, a loud squeeky noise appears for no reason. I think its my video card but im just wondering if its something else. Does anyone know about this problem??

Answer:Weird loud noise????

It could be a fan, when you put more pressure on your graphics card it may well decide to turn up its 'im a little bastard' fan.

They can be quiet loud. They should be torn asunder and replaced with nice Coolermaster or Zalman things.

Frosty cool and quiet.

I as far as I can remember have never had this loud noose before, but lately for a month or so? Ish? I've been having a series of loud noises from my pc, so loud that I can hear it even when playing BF3 with a headset! And so violent at times I can feel the keyboard vibrating lightly, and if I touch the PC it is vibrating decently softly.

I may be wrong but it seems it started after BF3, and thought it might be the fan or my PC really struggling with the game, but it does it even when I'm not playing.

It's sometimes just a softer sound, then will accelerate to a "burr, burr, burr" then go full auto into "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" occasionally very loud.

So here's the REALLY scary part: while playing Skyrim a very weird thing happened: it stopped. The sound of the game looped into a "drrrrrrrrrr" and I had to hold down the off button. Nothing else did anything. I rebooted and tested it again...sure enough: 30 seconds in I had to do the same thing. I gave it one last chance and decided I would try to discern if it did anything else notable, but the third time it was fine. I left the game open a while to see if it'd do it again, but it didn't.

So I'm scared. WTH is wrong with my PC? BTW it is kinda low on disc space...if that matters. Also the disc options are gone when I click on documents under the c\ drive and stuff...then again I had installed virtual drives...I dunno

Answer:Very loud and scary noise from my PC.

It's a windows 7 64bit 3.2 ghz i5? Or quad core. GT230 graphics card. And I "it stopped" I meant my pc. Not the noise. The monitor just started going as if it were preparing for screen saver mode.

Hey, sorry if this is not in the right section since I could not find any other better section to post this in.

Okay, my computer recently started to sound really loud, so I turned it off before I went to sleep. The next morning I woke up to turn my computer on, but nothing would show on my monitor and the computer was still extremely loud, louder then it has ever been. I decided to play around with it and I replaced the monitor plug (not sure of the correct name) to a different opening in my computer. It solved the problem and my monitor started finally working, but still my computer was louder then ever. I ended up scanning my whole computer and defraging. The scan went fine same with the defrag. The noise was still the same. When I tried out a game, it was really choppy and I was only getting about 10 fps on average.

I would really appreciate some light on this problem. Thanks.

Answer:Realtek loud noise

Do you have "digital" speakers or just the standard computer speakers? I suspect just standard speakers (using the Green speaker connection) so "Speakers" should be set as the default playback device. In the recording settings, either the microphone or better yet "Stereo Mix" should be set as default Recording device.

Get the settings properly set and then see what happens.

I was using my PC and all of the sudden it started making a loud almost rattling sound. I shut it off, waited a little and restarted it. It went away for a few minutes and then came back. I opened up the case to see if I could find where the noise was coming from and it seemed to be coming from one of the fans. I unplugged the power to that fan and now it is quiet again.

Do fans go bad? Is there a fix for this or do I just need to get a new fan?

Computers normally whine or clatter, sometimes alarms sound for overheat.Load bangs are usually terminal straight away. CD breaking in drive, PSU dying or motherboard blowing. The only thing I can think of is possibly hard drive heads catching on platters.SO I suggest you back up anything important immeditely.

What happened to me one is that the CPU fan's mounting came loose and was not stable. Check to see if everything looks secure on it.

Question: Loud Beeping Noise

I installed a 200gig hd in my comp, with my 80 gig thats already in there. Everything was good, windows loaded fine, but today my computer light started blinking on and off and my comp made a loud continuous beeping sound. Whats up? Its completely random, and it usually stops making that sound after 10-20 sec.

Answer:Loud Beeping Noise

First guess would be that your system is not getting enough love from your power supply.

Go here: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/ and calculate how much your system needs, then open up your case and look at the sticker on your PSU to see how many watts it is putting out.

There's this loud noise coming from my CPU. I opened it up and cleaned removed most of the dust, and it still sounds the same. In the start up screen there was the message "diskette drive 0 seek failure", I disabled the floppy drive, the message doesn't appear anymore, and its still sounds the same. The sound mostly comes from the Floppy Drive area. I'm really worried, anything I can do to solve this?

Specifications:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Intel Celeron CPU 2.00 GHz

Answer:[SOLVED] Loud Noise from CPU

Is there a floppy disk in the drive? It sounds like the floppy drive is dead (or dying) which is not all that unusual. Open the case cover and disconnect the power cable from the back of the floppy drive. Test. If the noise persists then it could be a fan failing or some other problem. Try the above first and get back to us.

I built my own pc about a year ago. Lately whenever I boot the machine up it makes this weird buzzing, clicking noise. It generally stops after it gets fully booted up. Then it is quiet, but sometimes it will start making a buzzing noise after it has been on for awhile (I leave it on all the time). At first I was worried it might be the hard drive, but I have not had any real trouble with the machine. I figured if it were the hard drive, it probably would have died by now or I'd have some serious issues. So, what do you think? It would have to be the power supply or one of the internal fans right? Should I replace my 400 watt power supply?

Thanks!

Answer:PC making loud noise, could it be the PS or something else??

Its probably a fan. I would take it out and take a look at it and put it back. You first have to find out wich fan it is.

I have had similar problems. I used to hit the fan a few times wih a screwdriver and it fixed the problem. I am not recommending it though. It was my PSU fan. Maybe u should clean it. Be careful.

Hi, when I bought my PC two years ago, it was silent, it barely made any noise. However, I later made a huge mistake. I opened the case to clean the inside of the computer with an air compressor, but while I was cleaning the fans I wasn't holding them so the air compressor made them spin faster than normal. Following that, every time I boot my PC now, it makes a loud noise and also the PC makes a lot of noise in general. A lot more than when I bought it, to a point where sleeping next to it when it is turned on is a hard thing to do. Now, I'm wondering if that mistake is the cause of the noise. When I look at the fans, they don't seem to be damaged at all. I have 3 fans: The case fan, the graphics card fan and the power supply fan. My PC is cleaned regularly so I know it's not dust or anything that's causing the problem.

Here's some interesting info: It only makes noise when it's booting after the computer has been turned off for more than 30 minutes. If it's less than that, it doesn't make the loud noise. I have no idea why. Also, about 3% of the time, the desktop doesn't get to fully load because the computer freezes. It's a problem that started at the same time the noise started. If it is indeed one or multiple fans that are broken, how can I know which one(s) is?

I made a video of when I'm booting the computer so you can hear and see what is happening.

You didn't tell us the brand and model of the computer.
Using an air compressor is very bad, because you risk the damage of static electricity that is generated in amazing amounts. Next time, us canned air designed for use in cleaning computers.
Replace the CPU fan, us buy a new CPU cleaning kit, and any fans that blow air to the outside, and replace the power supply with one of decent quality. Clean the dust of fan blades and computer walls with a soft rag soaked in denatured alcohol. Get some nylon or plastic ties to hold the cables together and away from any fans. Tie down SATA and EIDE cables so they cannot block air or rattle. Make sure all air flow passages are free and allow full movement of cooling air. All these will likely return your computer to normal. You could also buy "silent" cooling fans for very little money which would reduce your noise even more..

So I recently got a new computer about 1 month ago and the microphone didn't seem to work. When I got it to work there was this really loud annoying sound that had beeps and echos in it, kind of hard to explain. I have turned off the option of "Listen to this device" in the audio control panel and haven't found any further fixed for this issue I wondered if anyone could help me :) The headset I use is the Logitech G230.

Answer:Loud noise when using microphone.

You have done what was needed by turning off "listen to this device".
If this is not turned off the sound coming from the speakers is picked up by the microphone and then goes round and round usually referred to as feedback.

Hello, I've been searching around for a possible solution to this problem, but didn't find anything major dusts trapped within the fan housing.  The noise is especially pronounced when I plug in the AC, not so much when I'm using the battery.  I downloaded fanspeed to monitor my pc's temperature, and found it to exceed 180 degrees F when running memory intensive programs, sometimes staying at around 200 degree F, in short I can feel alot of heat being emittied through the keypad. The noise is annoying and I believe the fan to be the main culprit, however I read somewhere that an AC malfunction is a possibility.  The laptop is at factory settings, although I did uninstall lenovo power management to fix an exisiting problem before.  Does anyone have inputs?

Answer:T60 emitting loud noise from fan

Hello and welcome here. Please try a vacuum cleaner or a can of compressed air and clean your vents. Here youŽll find some very usefull videos for opening your system. YouŽwonŽt void your warranty, if your only open the CRU`S.

all of a sudden, from nowhere, LOUD whirring noise coming from CPU.

Rebooted---it's gone. Maybe this SSs help, I've never really been one to understand performance data. I've left the PC on for a week- usually shut it down nightly. Could it be the temp?

Answer:Loud whirring noise

Helllo Eknirb,

From looking at your top image from Task Manager, it looks like you had a spike in CPU usage there for a bit. That spike may have cause your built-in motherboard fan controllers to rev up the CPU fan to keep it cooler with the quick increase (spike) usage.

Monitor your CPU temps to make sure that they are not high or spiking on you as well to be safe. 45C as your showing in the last screenshot is ok. If they are high all the time, the CPU fan or heatsink may be loose, or you may need to clean and replace the thermal past on the CPU heatsink.

If the usage is spiking on you randomly, then you can look under the CPU bar in Resource Monitor to help see what is using so much of the CPU.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I ask because I am not familiar with what service technicians charge for this kind of work in every country. In the US I can tell you the part would be maybe $15-20US and the labor would be $80-150. If you have some skills at following a manual and maybe a video it is something you can do yourself.  http://www.ebay.in/itm/New-CPU-Cooling-Fan-for-HP-Pavilion-M6-M6T-M6-1000-m6-1002xx-m6-1035dx-m6-/11... We are happy to help as much as possible.

I just got my new XPS 2710 a week ago. All things working perfectly (Windows 8 not too exciting)  except the fan noise. I have no application consuming CPU, memory is low and no network activity still I hear the fan running a bit higher than normal.
Does anyone has seen this or has recommendation before I call support and debug.

thanks

Answer:New XPS One 2710 loud fan noise

Hi pkmaster,
The fan could be running at a higher speed due to any Windows background services accessing the processor resources. However, I suggest you to run the hardware diagnostics to check if all the components are working properly and particularly on the Processor and the fan by following the steps provided in the following link:http://dell.to/OUGnqT
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hope some one can help.  My son's dell is only a year old.  Yesterday when he turned it on, it made a sound like a plane taking off....really loud!  he turned off the plug.  Next time we tried it same thing.....is it going to explode?  Help!

Answer:loud noise on startup

What model? Have you taken off the cover to look inside? Has it been moved recently? Sometimes a wire can get caught rubbing in one of the fan blades.Or it could be taking off.Let us know what you find.

Well a lenovo, used for a year and a buzzing loud crackling fan noise problem... Aren't we surprised!!!Useless to ask for a BIOS update for a essential product, they didn't care to give one for a thinkpad. Here's the problem though...The laptop makes a buzzing fan noise. That is not a fan running at full speed. This noise is more like a buzz of a large fluoroscent tube. And will stop, well, if you tap it, knock it, or use your acquired accupressure massage tricks for the revered Lenovo products. Problem is it will reappear after a few minutes or seconds depending on your luck. Lenovo don't seem to provide any off shelf fans at least in India for the product. Even the cpu temp seem to be rising. It has touched 70C for i53210m.(room temp at 26C, load 100% for arnd 30 sec, avg load 6%)My question is with the temperature on the higher side, and the fact that I cannot feel much air from the fan, how do I know the gurgarating buzzing loud fan is actually working or needs to be changed?

Hi,

It might just need a cleaning.  Here's your Hardware Maintenance Manual .  That should show you how to gain access to it.

Question: loud static noise!

My computer is constantly making a loud static/rushing/electronic interference noise, all the time apart from when I play a CD using the Windows CD player - but if I try and play a CD using Windows Media Player I still get the noise, and the CD volume is so quiet you cannot hear it over the interference!

Any suggestions? I have a USB broadband modem and the problem started shortly after I installed this. I only have integral sound that came with the motherboard, I don't have a soundcard.

Any help welcome!

This is really troubling to me. I've had this computer for only 2 months and just yesterday, it started to suddenly make loud noises. I was trying to install VOBSUB yesterday and it installed... but the screen was frozen. I couldn't exit out of the window. SO I used task manager and got myself out of it then tried again - but happened again of course. Then all of a sudden there was this deep, loud motorlike noise coming from my computer. My old computer's fans were always loud whenever it was on but this was different.

I turned it on this morning and got the usual loud fan sound... then that deep low noise for maybe 2 minute. I'm really scared about this. What should I do?

Answer:Loud Computer Noise

First, a word of caution...
Any work that you or someone else does to the system may void your warranty- unless you bought it used. You should check with the manufacturer to see what is covered and for how long. Second, we'll need more information about the computer. Edited for spelling

I am having SL400 Thinkpad. for the past few days it is acting weirdly. My hard disk is making lot of noise. Initially I thought it is coming from CPU fan. But when I observed ThinkVantage active protection - It is displaying auto repetitive shocks.  This sound is just too loud. I cannot hear anything if I switch on my laptop.  Now, my laptop performance become very slow even though I am having Core2Duo with 4GB RAM. My laptop is one yr old and it's warranty is over in April. OS is Vista.  Appreciate if anyone has suggestions to fix this problem.

Answer:SL400 - HDD Loud Noise

if it is making lot of loud noise, then it could be a sign of bearing is worn out on the hdd. Try to do a hdd health check through the BIOS menu, and see whether you have any errors on the hdd.

I think Lenovo allows you to extend warranty provided that the day of renewal is within 30 days of the warranty expiration. You should call them up and see if that is possible.

Aftermarket hdd is pretty cheap too, a 500 gig one is around 80 or 90 USD on newegg.com. If you buy the WD and Seagate brand, there is a manufacturer provided copy of the Acronis Trueimage where you can transfer the entire hdd image from the old hdd to the new hdd.

I was just taking apart my desktop and cleaning it up/blowing off the dust using a pressurized air gun (not too pressurized), and now that I have the nuts and screws back on, I plugged it in and the loudest noise began to come from the cooling fan.

It sounds as if theres something hitting the fan as it turns, this only happens on start-up for about 5 seconds as the fan blows at full speed. I did a visual inspection and there was nothing close to the fan, all wires were tucked away. What should I do?

Answer:Loud noise coming from fan

It's possible that when you blew compressed air through the cooling fan, some grit/debris inadvertently got into the fan motor pinion. It should eventually work itself out, but if it's stubborn then try blowing more compressed air. You might also want to check if there's a lubrication port somewhere on it (some of these fans are completely maintenance free, but some can be lubricated).

My laptop - just over a year old now - began making this noise. I of course assume it is the fan or hard drive. I'm glad I did backup for recovery and drivers...but what steps should I take? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi,I have lenovo 3000 y410 laptop. The fan of the laptop makes loud noise due to sudden increase and decrease of its speed. The noise suddenly crescendoes... as if my laptop sings an opera everyday.Only thing being this opera concerns me about my laptop's health.I have recorded the sound. If anyone wants I can send it.There is no way I can attach it here. Someone please tell me the solution of it. Btw, is there anybody else who is facing the same problem with the laptop's fan?

Answer:Fan makes loud noise.

try to clean your air vent by blowing it with compressed air, and see whether you dislodge any dusts, it is probably dirty now and needs to be cleaned........... also install HWmonitor (a free download off the net) and check your CPU temp....... if got warranty, let the Lenovo service people fix it up for you, if not then it is fairly easy DIY job.

Once in a while, my XP loads up without sound.
Most often, I do have sound.
But, when it loads with sound I get a loud banging noise - sometimes one sometimes two, then everytjhing is OK.
Would I ever be able to get it loading without the banging noise(s)?
Much obliged!

Answer:Loud noise, once or twice at start-up.

Obviously, there is a problem. I have no idea what the "banging noise" could be. "Banging" would seem to indicate something is loose and bouncing around in the case.

Question: Loud Revving Noise

I am running Windows XP on a Dell computer that is about 3 years old. Lately, and more frequently, the computer will all of a sudden make noises like a car engine revving up. Sometimes it just lasts a few minutes and sometimes it just gets louder and louder and lasts a long time. I have DSL and thus my computer is always on. I have virus protection and nothing comes up on the scan. When this happens, I normally have nothing going on, except perhaps one Internet Explorer Window open.

Is this a sound of doom and gloom to come? What could be causing this? Should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Answer:Loud Revving Noise

#1. Isolate the cause.
- Open the case and look at the fans particularily. Many systems today can control the speed of the fan and as the system heats up the fans spin faster. Older fans may complain and you'll hear a noise not unlike airplanes flying overhead.

If it's a regular 80 cm or 120 cm fan then a replacement is quick and easy. If it's a chipset or CPU fan, then replacement will require first determining what you need and then where you can find it. Most computer specialists will carry a variety of fans and parts, but make sure to double check your requirements before purchasing. Make sure if you replace your CPU fan/cooler that it will FIT.

Good luck,

Hey everyone! I just got a new u310 a few days ago. It has Windows 8 installed. I started working on the notebook, hoping the fan noise would eventually stop but it is really really noisy. I installed a software, which would indicate a temperature of 36°C, so usually the fan shouldn't be working on such a high level in the first place. I have read a couple of posts about this, but no one seems to have found a solution for tge U310 specifically. Does anyone have the same problem? I thought maybe there is a BIOS update which would help...? Thanks a lot, Sonni

Answer:U310 loud fan noise

hi Sonni_87,

The loud fan noise that you're hearing, is it a:1. A wind noise?
     - If it is, this is normal as faster fan speed causes wind noise on the vents (this usually happens if you're getting unusual heat and the fan spins at a higher rate to cool down the CPU/GPU.

2. A grinding / rattling noise?
     - this indicates that the fan is struggling - It's possible that it's hitting something, is dirty or is starting to wear out and needs to be replaced.

Also, the BIOS can configure on how the fan spins. It's possible that the configuration is set to make the fan spin at a higher rate even on less load on the CPU/GPU (like in this article). In this case, you may need to contact lenovo report this issue

Regards

When the laptop is put into the sleep mode and while closing the lid, a loud noise comes from the place near the touchpad. The sound goes off when the lid is opened. It is happening since a month.
The sound is not coming from the speakers. It is coming from inside the laptop.

Answer:Loud Noise while closing lid

Hi Arun,Thanks for the response.I would suggest you to enable the audio device and uninstall the audio driver. Then restart the system and Windows would automatically try to install the sound driver. Run the Windows Audio Playback Diagnose and Repair from the below mentioned MS FIX-IT http://support.microsoft.com/mats/AudioPlayback/ You may also run the hardware diagnostics to check if there is a hardware failure. To run the diagnostics you can get the instructions from the online videos available on the following link: http://dell.to/Sm161v Once you open the above page, under the option, “All Videos” select Dell Tools & Services >> Then select Dell Support Center–PC Checkup/Offline Diagnostics Please find the screenshot below:1. Click Start, All Programs, Dell, Dell Support Center and Launch PC Checkup. 2. Click the PC Checkup button and then click Run Custom Scan. Note: If the hardware is detected but the driver is not installed, instead of Run Test, the field will read Disabled. In the given list, click to select the script or component test desired and follow the onscreen prompts to complete the diagnostic. Please reply with the findings. Thanks & Regards Vishal S #iworkfordell
