Satellite Pro C660 bricked by BIOS update that failed

Question: Satellite Pro C660 bricked by BIOS update that failed

My sister asked me to update her laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16N; Part number PSC0ME-01S00SEN) from Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) to Windows 8 (64-bit).
So I did.

Then I went to Toshiba's UK website to check if there were any drivers I needed to install for Windows 8. The only one was a BIOS update (to BIOS v1.70). I have no idea what the previous BIOS version number was.

So I run the update application within Windows 8. Phoenix Technologies WinPhlash starts and then halfway through the update, the whole thing freezes.

The trackpad wouldn't move the cursor or anything. I had no option but to unplug the laptop from the wall and remove the battery. The laptop is not under warranty.

Of course, now it won't turn on. It beeps once when I press the power button, but the system doesn't turn on. A couple of minutes later, it sounds one long beep then two short beeps. It then keeps repeating this "one long beep, two short beeps" sequence every couple of minutes.

I have Googled and read website after blog after forum post, but nothing works. The links to the software suggested on these websites/blogs/forums are usually dead, so I cannot try what they suggest.

The most common solution is the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Tool. I have managed to download v1.0.0.4 which is supposed to enable me to make a bootable USB key. The version of this tool that I have downloaded is meant to be for a Lenovo ThinkPad X200. I have the correct BIOS.rom for the Satellite Pro C660 (which I have renamed BIOS.wph and copied to the relevant folder).

I have followed all instructions, but it doesn't seem to work. Some sites say if this happens then I have the wrong version of phlash16.exe. Certain other websites say that HP Boot Disk USB Utility should be used, but I don't know how to use this.

What I really need is a definitive foolproof step-by-step guide of what to do, with links to the tools/files to be used for this model of laptop. I will be following this blindly (as I don't really understand what each step does, I just do it with no understanding,) so if anyone can help me with this, please write a guide as if for a complete idiot!!

If anyone can help me with this, I would appreciate it so much. I am really in a sticky situation - I can't really afford to pay a Toshiba ASP to repair it, and I certainly can't afford a new laptop. But I also couldn't bring myself to tell my sister, "It's broken, deal with it!"

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Hi, I was trying to update the BIOS of my x120e (0596-2RU) from within Windows 7, it got stuck (no progress for more than half an hour), now the notebook is bricked (the screen won't turn on; there's no beeps, just the fan is turned on). I believe I followed all the instructions (battery fully charged etc.), but the Customer Support here in Ireland says failed BIOS updates are not covered by warranty (contrary to what some people on these forums say). What are my options now?  Thanks a lot!

Answer:bricked x120e -- failed BIOS update

rufus82, welcome to the forum,
I would suggest that you contact support again and again request a fix under warranty, if again you receive no satisfaction you should then simply state that you are not satisfied and wish to register a complaint, the CSR will be able to do this for you.
Please ensure that you note the name of the CSR you speak to and also request a call number, the call number will possibly be of help at a later date.

Hi -- on an Inspiron 15R 5521, on Widows 8, I wanted to do a reinstallation of Windows. Ran into difficulty getting that to work, so went to Drivers & Downloads. It suggested a Bios update. I downloaded and ran it. It said the current BIOS version was A06 and it would update to A14. It got 25% of the way into the Update, and failed.I left it on for a few hours in the stupid, vain hope it would somehow spring back to life by itself. Eventually disconnected power, removed the battery, reinstalled both and tried to reboot. No boot, nothing on the screen. From what I can find, this model does not support BIOS recovery. Is there some other way to re-update the BIOS? This is extremely frustrating -- I was just trying to go back to a clean OS install before selling it -- now Dell's software has provided me with an unsellable brick!

I've been re-organising my nephew's laptop (part number Satellite L500-19X PSLS0E-00F01DEN), tidying files etc, applying outstanding updates etc and foolishly agreed to the Toshiba's utility offer to upgrade the BIOS which totally froze part way thru (at step 11 of 37 IIRC).

I've now got nothing but a black screen.

As I do have some IT skills, I've looked around and was going to go down the WINCRIS.EXE route creating a bootable USB drive to try and recover that way.

However, the latest BIOS for this laptop seems to be an .exe file, not a zip file from which I could extract the boot rom.

Guess I still have the option of taking the drive out of the laptop to try and recover the backup bios file the update utility said it saved to another machine anduse that to try to regress that way, but I would appreciate any advice - or indeed a bootable image - anyone could offer.

Guess I'm hoping for too much to think Toshiba themselves could supply such an image...

Answer:BIOS update bricked Satellite L500-19X

>However, the latest BIOS for this laptop seems to be an .exe file, not a zip file from which I could extract the boot rom.

The exe file isn?t ?real? exe file but it?s a package.
You can extract this exe clicking right and choosing ?Extract here??

I use WinRAR to extract the packages. Also WinZip or 7Zip should work.

But to be honest I?m not quite sure if you would be able to fix this issue.
From my knowledge an BIOS crisis disk would be needed to reflash the EPROM module and usually this can be done by Toshiba authorized service provider

However, please keep us up to date.

My wife has a Satellite L450 laptop and there was BIOS update through Toshiba automatic updates, she said yes to it. The update took ages, it was there "updating" for over an hour then it stopped responding so I had no choice but to pull the power and now it refuses to do anything. When I turn it on the power lights come on and te hard drive light flickers a little but the screen stays black.
The BIOS update through the Toshiba program has bricked my laptop. It is just out of guarantee but this is 100% Toshibas fault.

What can I do?

Answer:Satellite L450 automatic BIOS update has bricked it

Hello Steve

Sorry to hear this.
What you can do? At first contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and talk with guys what can be done about that.
Be cool and don?t be arrogant. Many people call service and scream on the phone. Don?t do this. Be cool, try to explain what happened and ask for help.

I hope they will help you and you will be able to use your notebook again.

Answer:Satellite pro c660-21d can not update BIOS

> I am wondering if the f-secure anti virus is blocking the bios update

Before running an BIOS update tool, you should close all running apps in the background and should disable firewalls and antivirus software too!

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed on your notebook.
The VAP is an Toshiba tool package which can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.

This is Toshiba European notebook model and the latest available BIOS can be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page.

The latest BIOS for this series is currently the BIOS 1.50-win
So your BIOS is already up to date.

today I found out that somehow I had clocked my processor to just 1.3ghz. I googled that I have to install toshiba value added package. After successful installation my processor started working normally (max 2.8ghz).

Unfortunately it has caused massive overheating of my notebook. While I was downloading bios update(and surfing normal websites) temperature went up to 83?C! I'm just not doing anything it's going really high..(btw. I'm using cooling pad).

I found out that if I update bios(current version 1.5) it might solve/help(maybe) this problem. I downloaded both 1.7, 2.0 versions.

Version 1.7:
when I run it, it just throw an error:

Phoenix WinPhlash64
Failed to retrieve system BIOS information.
BCPSYS block signature was not found.
Error code: -100

Couldn't find any solution for this..

Version 2.0
There is an error occured, please check below items.
BIOS version above 200. (I've got 1.5)
Battery capacity more than 10% (tested it with 8%)
AC is attached. (it wasn't attached)

Huh? I'm totally out. Computer is unworkable if I don't fix that overheating problem.(bios update)

Thanks for any help.

A customer with a C660-117 got a message from Tempro saying update BIOS. He did what he was told but the update crashed at Block 8 and would go no further.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C660-117 crashed on BIOS update

Usually the BIOS update procedure is safety.
But some before executing an BIOS update, all applications and software like antivirus software, firewalls which run in the background should be closed.

However, as far as I know the BIOS flash ROM needs to be flashed/repaired by using an crisis disk?

Check also this thread:

But if it would not be helpful, you will need to contact an Toshiba ASP in your country to get it fixed.

Answer:Satellite C660-1TK - BIOS Update Go Wrong

To be honest you can be happy that your notebook works because many people have had bad luck after not successful BIOS update.

In my opinion you should not ?play? with BIOS updates. At the end you will damage BIOS update and your notebook will not start at all. Maybe you should contact Toshiba service provider and clarify this. Ask for help. They should do it for you. If something goes wrong it will not be your fault.

Be careful with this. It is just my opinion and advice for you. Don?t change well running system.

Hi all

I was updating BIOS on TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-13R from windows 7 64 bits. Downloaded driver from toshiba web. Half way the installation laptop freezes. I have left it for 40 mins to run but it did not get back to normal state. As motherboard fan has started to move on high speed I decided to take battery out. In result when I power back my laptop I have 1 beep from the motherboard and black screen.

Can some one help me please ?

Answer:Satellite C660-13R - BIOS update issue

Obviously the BIOS update procedure has failed. Something went wrong during the update process and it looks like the EMRPOM module has not been flashed properly.
This is the reason why the notebook does not work anymore.

Possible solution?
Well, if EMPROM isn?t damage, it should be possible to re-flash the BIOS module once again using special BIOS version and BIOS crisis disk.
Usually the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country should be able to re-flash the module using such crisis disk.

I read also in this forum that some people managed to re-flash the EPROM module using some 3rd party crisis disk found somewhere in the internet? but this did not work always?
So probably the ASP will be your last resort?

However, use the forums advanced search option to find related threads about the BIOS crisis disk? could be interesting for you

Hi there,

Trying to update one of my employees laptops with bios 1.50 (C660) and it is displaying an error message displaying 3 possible causes. Ac adapter not plugged in (it is) battery is less than 10% (it isnt) and BIOS is more up to date than version 1.50. When I tried the update the laptop was currently running 1.00. So I'm overhauling a C660-2JN, part # PSC1ME-01L00KEN, and having installed a clean Windows I got latest drivers for everything and went to check for BIOS updates.

If you visit the 2JN's page and go to the Driver section there is one BIOS listed: [v1.50-WIN| =2&selFamily=3&selSeries=313&selProduct=6019&selSh ortMod=3010&language=13&selOS=null&selType=null&ye arupload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mod e=allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country =8&selectedLanguage=13&type=null&page=1&ID=80880&O SID=-1&driverLanguage=42] .

I say "for the C660" because the part number of this machine doesn't exist in the bottom drop-down box, so I'm unsure how wide of a search I'm really doing.

I've extracted all three packages and they all use different flashers and have ROMs of different sizes, so I'm guessing the newer ones are for different spec'd machines, but it'd be nice to know (and, hey, maybe list compatible part numbers for stuff l... Read more

The BIOS version should be mentioned in the BIOS settings.
Power up the unit, press F2 and check the version there.

Furthermore I recommend settings the BIOS back to default settings.
In BIOS settings you will need to press F9 to get default. Then save the changes and exit BIOS.
Reboot the unit and check how many processes are running in the OS background.

I recommend disabling some not essential processes in msconfig.
There you can go to StartUp tab and could uncheck not needed processes.

The Satellite C660 had problems from start: Freezing Screen after startup and very, very slow. Also a HDD recovery did not help.

I tried a Bios Update and loaded the file that downloadable from Toshiba (version 1.7). The Bios Update did not complete and now the notebook does not work at all.

As the warranty is void I will now buy a bios chip in china and I am now looking for the bios file.

This is all very disapointing and a big waist of time and money.

That?s really pity? it looks like the ROM module has not been flashed properly.
I think this was a problem related to the hardware since you had problems before updating the BIOS.
I think this affected the BIOS update procedure.

> As the warranty is void I will now buy a bios chip in china and I am now looking for the bios file.
Forget it mate?ROM module cannot be replaced? in most cases the ROM module needs to be flashed using an crisis disk?

Would recommend asking an Toshiba ASP for help and to reflash the BIOS using crisis disk.
This should not be very expensive?

I think several people have posted about this issue here on this forum so it is a great pity that you didn?t check this forum before you have made decision to update BIOS. If you have a bit time check other postings in Satellite C category.

Anyway, what I can say is that you can try to reduce cooling fan speed using cooling method option in advanced power settings.

This should reduce cooling fan speed and your notebook will work much quieter. Set it simply to ?battery mode? option.

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite C660-1ME (Part Number : PSC1SE-00G009AR). I wanted to update the BIOS with the latest version 1.40. When you run the BIOS update gives this error *"project ID check fail"* what to do? how can I solve this problem?

Answer:Satellite C660-1ME PSC1SE - project ID check fail while BIOS update 1.40

Usually the VAP (value added package) needs to be installed in order to update the BIOS.
Is VAP installed? If yes, try to update or reinstall this package again and check if BIOS update is possible.
Furthermore disable any security software like firewall or antivirus software which could prevent the BIOS update.

Answer:Satellite C660-184 BIOS update fails: winflash.exe stops working

BIOS update requires the VAP (value added package) and all security tools should be turned off.
Here is detailed instruction how to update the BIOS:

You can also check if new OS installation would fix this because this issue could be related to muddled operating system? you know? but firstly try to reinstall the VAP and be sure that you use the right BIOS.

My last BIOS update has failed and now my laptop Satellite PrU400 PSU45E is out of order.
I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

An attempt to upgrade BIOS of E6420 failed. Now the notebook doesn't boot.
No POST, fans doesn't spin, no lights, nothing. It is completely dead.
The only thing it does: The Power indicator LED on the back side of the lid is glowing white and blinks once every 5 seconds. None of the LED works if you open the lid. Only that one on the outside of the notebook.
I have tried the usual things, including
- Remove battery and power cable and push the power button for 30-60 sec
- Dismantle notebook - remove BIOS battery, RAMs, wifi card etc
- Attempt to use BIOS recovery. Remove battery and power cable and try pushing Fn B, Esc, End etc and reconnect power cord.
- I tried creating a Wincrisis USB however, I'm having problems to extract ROM file from the .exe file. /writeromfile doesn't seem to work.
Any suggestion is welcomed!
Thanks in advance

Now I want to recover my BIOS via crisis disk method but I need a BIOS wph file to do so but I cant find it in the downloaded folders of the BIOScfiles.
Does anyone know how and where to get it?

Do you really want to do this crisis method? In worst case you could destroy the whole mainboard and this procedure isn?t so easy. In your case I wouldn?t do this?

The Toshiba website shows only BIOS updates for Windows and that?s all what you can get?

In your case I would contact an authorized service provider in your country. The guys can reflash the ROM module and should have every BIOS version. Just get in contact with them! ;)

Unfortunalety, the upgrade stopped in previous version backup phase. The laptop was frozzen.

It never start since tha problem.
I'm tying to create a crisis recover disk but it seem's to exist different versions of PHLASH16.EXE.

Does anyone of you know if crisis recorery mode is available for P200 laptop?
What version of PHLAS16.EXE is necessary and in which mode the floppy has to be create (native DOS mode) ?

I bought a external USB floppy and try the last all days but unsuccefully.

That?s pity :(
The BIOS update is always a sensitive process and there is always an tiny piece of risk.
Usually if the BIOS update was not successful then you would need an help from a ASP technician.

The point is that you would need an traditional BIOS update in order to reflash the BIOS chip again.
But the Toshiba driver page provides only Win-based BIOS which can be updated only from Windows OS.

Therefore you have to get in contact with an local ASP who could help you.

Hi, I'm hopping someone here can help me to fix this without sending it to the service shop if possible.

I've just updated tempro when it notified me of a bios update. I ran the update but it completely froze the system (Vista). I've waited 15 or so minutes for it to show any sign of life (either lights flashing or the system unfreezing) and then I turned it off figuring the thing crashed. Now it won't turn on.

Is there a way to fix this? As it's turned on it checks the cd drive, can it be fixed by updating the bios from a cd? Or a flash key?

Help please :(

Hi everyone,

I was having a problem with my geforce gt 630m (error code 43), and for some reason i had the brilliant ideia to update the bios (stupid me), I downloaded the bios update from toshiba offical site (6.80-WIN) as you can see in the image below (bios updates froms toshiba official site):;

During the process of installation, it looked very normal, until it reboots, after that, rebooted some more times, and finaly the black screen pc.. Tried entering the bios in the boot process (nothing).

I searched the forum, and found similar issues that gave me same ideas to resolve the problem (crisis bios recovery ), but I don't know who is my bios manufacturer, as I also don't know if was made a back up of the previous bios. Also don't know the combination keys for recovering the bios.

So, anyone? (HELLPPP!!!!)

I was offered by Tempro to update the BIOS of my Notebook Satellite A210-17Z.
I accepted but the laptop shut down before completing the BIOS update. As a consequence, I can no longer boot my computer.

Looking for a solution on the internet, I could read that there is a possibility to create a Crisis Recovery Disk. I tried to do so with the crisis package from Phoenix, creating a Crisis Recovery Disk with a floppy disk and so on.

When trying flashing the BIOS and booting the machine, I was pretty convinced to succeed as the system did start reading the floppy disk for about 2 minutes ... but nothing happened.

I would like to know if someone has an experience and some advice to help me recovering my notebook.
I was told that I should try with the original version of the BIOS (the one I got when I bought the computer) but I don't know how to find it as I don't know what version I got at the beginning.

It's recommended to contact the ASP (service center) to reflash it. You can read and ask the other users how to recover Phoenix Bios:

Hello there,

I was updating the BIOS using the downloaded update from the Toshiba Downloads and get the following error during the update

BIOS update failed! New BIOS is not compatible with current system BIOS.
New BIOS part number doesn???t match system BIOS part number.
Error Code: -120
See Help for Troubleshooting.

I have a P200-156 and it seems strange that i selected the P200 range and it saying it???s not for this laptop!

I???m having some Sleep/Hibernate problems, getting some Blue Screen Errors and Windows has recovered from a serious error messages. Quite regularly it won???t go into sleep/hibernate correctly and just stays turned on and I have to hold down the power button to turn off and restart as I get no output from the Laptop. I???ve done a fresh recovery too and still the same problems.

Can anyone help please, if you need any extra information I???ll provide as I would love to sort out these problems before Uni! I thought the BIOS update would do it but it???s not compatible apparently and when would a new release be made?

Answer:BIOS Update on Satellite Pro P200-156 failed

Did you use the right BIOS???
I would recommend checking the serial number which is placed at the bottom of the unit.
The first 5 digits and characters are important.
Then compare it on the Toshiba driver page and use the right BIOS!!!

Please note that wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update process can damage the notebook. Therefore I would recommend checking twice the BIOS version before executing.

Yesterday I tried to update the bios on my Toshiba a200 1-AD.
When I started the .exe file it gave me an error like this: Driver cannot be found. (Can't remember the exact error).

After the error appeared the update process was cancelled. Everything was still fine untill I wanted to reboot the computer. It got stuck and I had to remove the battery to shut it down(the power switch was not working).
Now it seems to be dead, when I boot the screen remains black. Also the hard disk shows some activity for 1 or 2 seconds. The DVD drive seems to be working though.

I did some research on internet and people are talking about a bios recovery jumper. I can't find if this laptop has one.

In last few days I've been getting a blue screen of death with the error "whea_uncorrectable_error", I read something about updating BIOS because the error is probably caused by old version of BIOS. I did the update correctly but as soon as my laptop restarted, nothing was booting.

The fan and the keyboard are working but nothing else. I tried removing the RAM, removing the CMOS battery, pulling the main battery out and holding the power button, but nothing seems to be working.

Can you please help me and tell me how to recover my BIOS?

Answer:Satellite C660D won't boot - BIOS update failed

because the error is probably caused by old version of BIOS.

Old BIOS version does not cause BSOD… … the BSOD appeared during the last day but I guess the notebook worked properly in the past in connection with the old BIOS version... therefore the BIOS could not be the problem here…

However, fact is that the notebook is dead now… probably because the update process has been interrupted due to the BSOD…

From my point of few the EPROM should be re-flashed again using BIOS crisis disk…

Some people has already tried to fix such similar issue using 3rd party crisis disk (use forum search for crisis disk to find similar threads) but this did not work always…

Therefore I think that in most cases only the Toshiba ASP could be able to reflash the EMPRO using the original crisis disk

Unfortunately, it seems only the BIOS windows version is available for this notebook model.

Anyway, I wonder why you have updated the BIOS on your notebook. Many forum users have mentioned that the BIOS update is risky!
The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the notebooks motherboard ROM!

Did you follow the BIOS update guideline which is available on the Toshiba page?!

I know this is is quite old computer, but until now it was just enough good for my usage.
Anyway, after I have done a recovery of the Windows Vista OS that came with my computer, I got a notification from one of Toshiba tools that there is an updated BIOS available for my computer.
I've downloaded it and tried to perform an update. After the process had (probably) finished, the computer did not react to touchpad and keyboard. I was not sure if the update was really successful, especially because it looked like the computer was is frozen state. So I left it for next +/- 30 minutes but no change.
Then I decided to reset it as even the power button was not working. So I had to remove the battery and unplug the AC power.

... and the computer was (almost) dead then.

Now it is so that when I press the power button it seems to power up, but the screen remains blank, the fan is working and Windows is not booting. It just makes one short scratching noise from the DVD drive and this is all.

My question is, what is the recovery procedure in my situation ? I've tried to look for some potential help on the Internet and I found some forum posts or articles stating that there are some recovery procedures for different BIOSes, but what is the procedure for my BIOS ? The only thing that I found "working" was that if I press the power button holding Fn+Esc keys, the laptop powers on with flashing power button. But how to force BIOS recovery flashing procedure ?

Could someone tell me the key combination I need to press in order to enter the recovery mode to reflash the BIOS?

Answer:Bios update failed on Satellite A100 - SK4 - how can I repair it

Hi wabz,

I've got a similar problem. I tried to update my bios and it went wrong also.
I tried allot of methods to restore the bios but I came to the conclusion that there is no way to restore it yourself.
I had contact with toshiba and they told me they have to replace the motherboard.
So I guess this is the only solution for you also.
I'm sorry I can't help you, try to call toshiba for further info.

Good luck wabz.

After proper BIOS update from 2.00 to 2.10 /suggested by TEMPRO ALERT - the touchpad of my Satellite Pro A300-1GR stopped working.
It appears as hidden in the device manager. The device status - "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" Reinstalling the driver has no effect off course. I also cant access the BIOS utility during the start-up by pressing F2.
Running Vista Business Edition 32 bit.
Any ideas for resolving the problem will be highly appreciated!

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - touchpad failed after BIOS update

Press Fn+F9, does the Touchpad now work?

Why cant you press F2 to get into the BIOS?

If Windows is in Resume/Suspend mode, you need to shut Windows down completely before entering the BIOS.

Try resetting the BIOS to its default settings.

If you have Logitech or other 3rd party mouse/keyboard drivers installed, remove those and reboot.

Hey Guys,

I need some help!
I was updating my works laptop Bios and i had the power cord conected and (no battery, it was at home).
Anyway we had a blackout right in the middle of when i was doing the up date.

Now when the computer starts up all the lights come on and there is no display and then a long beep.

Any ideas on how i can fix this?
It's still under warenty

Answer:Satellite U400 - Bios update procedure failed

Unfortunately buddy; there is no much to do.
It looks like the BIOS update procedure failed due to the blackout and the ROM module was not flashed correctly.
Hopefully the motherboard is not damage?.

In your case it?s strongly recommended to contact the local ASP.
The guys should be able to help you?
I?m not quite sure if you need a new mobo or just a new update of the ROM module?
But the ASP technician should know what must be done?

Good luck & Greets

I recently attempted a bios update after doing a clean install of winodws 7 64bit. The process completed and the laptop restarted. On completion the laptop failed to boot and simply displayed a black screen.

I've tried some of the methods on the internet using crisis recovery on a usb stick but have had no success

I dont whether im using the wrong combination of Fn + B etc or what but could really do with some advice

thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite Pro A300D (PSAK1E) - Failed BIOS update

I don?t think there is much what you can do if BIOS update failed. Usually in such cases the ROM module must be reflashed but this can only be done from an authorized service provider.

In my opinion you should contact the guys and ask for help. I?m sure they can help you to fix this problem. :)

Hi All,

I have Toshiba A200 PSAE0E. I downgraded the OS from Vista to Xp.
When I was trying to upgrade the BIOS setting, the system frozed.

I restated the system using the power button. When restarted there is no display in my screen.
I tried to reboot it by pressing F1, F2, Home key and even removed the battery for a while, till there is no display in my screen.

I even tried connecting with external monitor, but in that also there is no display.
Right now i dont have any sort of recovery disk.

I would greatly appreciate if some one could help me.

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAE0E - no display after BIOS update has failed

For me it looks like the BIOS update procedure has failed.
Due to non apparent reason the system froze and you have interrupted the update procedure.

In mu opinion the ROM module (where the BIOS is stored) has not been flashed properly and this is the reason why you cannot boot up the notebook.

In this case you need the help from ASP? I know, that?s really stupid situation but I?m afraid there is no other solution.

I think the technician will try to flash the ROM module again using an special BIOS and then the notebook should boot up properly? hopefully?. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Good luck

I've updated my laptop to run windows 7 instead of vista a while ago and my laptop was running but the fan seemed to stop working and i found a BIOS update might fix this on this forum. The BIOS update stopped responding part way through and i had to close it. I tried running it again but it kept coming up with an error message. The laptop was running fine but once i turned it back on the next day i found it only loaded to a black screen. My laptop was out of warranty but i thought i'd send it off anyways hoping for a decent price but it came back with a 400 price tag for a replacement motherboard and fitting costs. Does anyone know if these kinds of problems can be repaired without full replacement needed?

Thanks in advanced to anyone who can help :)

Answer:Re: Satellite A300D-15B - Failed BIOS update and now I get a black screen

well i don't think that the board needs to be replaced. You can try bios recovery mode if you have an usb fdd.
I've had the same problem with my A200. Now it works without any problem again :)

But now the laptop's not starting at all. Fan is woking but screen is blank, keyboard's not working as well.

How can I flash the bios again? I don;t have floppy drive.

Can you please help?

Answer:Satellite L350d-12M - BIOS update failed - computer won't boot

The best way is you contact a local ASP. Why?
I think the BIOS must be reset or the mainboard exchanged. They can order such parts and are very helpful.

In this case you could do nothing by yourself.

How can I get it running again.

Hi, let me just start by saying im an idiot....

Dowloaded a few drivers for my toshiba p100 240 and noticed there was a BIOS update, i downloaded it and ran the program only for it to come up with
an error that it will only allow the Administrator to run program. My laptop became slow and would not allow me to turn it off by any means. In the end i took out the
battery and restarted only to find a blank screen, no start up or anything on screen.

I fear i have totally killed my machine and its about 4 months out of warrenty, Im sure there is no cheap miricle cure for this but if anyone can give me my options here I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time,

Answer:Satellite P100-240 wont boot up after failed BIOS update

Hi mate,

Thats a bit of a problem... If your machine really won?t boot up and no screen comes up, then your BIOS was probably damaged.

I would really recommend you to contact an [authorized service partner| 000000871] and tell them your problem. Maybe they can do something for. I mean, your machines hardware is ok, and it?s just some BIOS related thing.

Hope your machine will work again..

So I felt I have had enough of this thing going on the blank screen of death on me and googled for some solutions and it turns out there is some known kinda glitch with these series that for some reason makes the notebook to freeze and screen to go blank... this means loss of any unsaved data without any possible way to prevent it

I was just taking an online quiz for my online college class and this thing just went off to this blank screen on me.

Finally I find out there needs to be a BIOS FLASH performed. I get the latest related version from Toshiba?s website fairly easy and run the windows option.

System is running on Vista home.

Everything goes fine, until getting to sector 7 I believe of the 17 sectors that needed to be erased and reprogrammed. I had closed all active programs that I could possibly close including many routine taskbar items.

My system had more than 50% battery charge and indeed it was connected to electric grid. There was no electrical shocks or anything.

All of a sudden I hear a pop and system is turned off unexpectedly. System completely shuts down, not even the front led indicating the power connection remains on, but that and battery leds come on a few seconds later. The system never turns back on by itself and when I turn it on it seems it?s just the power on led turns on without the screen even lighting up or CPU fan making any noise or airflow.

Now half of my life was on this system and I am absolutely upset with Toshi... Read more

The BIOS update for the L750 failled with a "VERIFY ERROR". I downloaded the BIOS update again and got the same error.

I wanted to submit a support ticket to let tech support know that the BIOS update doesn't work, but low and behold, the support ticket creator doesn't accept my combination of model number/serial number.

So, apart from picking up the telephone, how do I get a message to Toshiba?

Answer:Satellite L750 - BIOS update failed with a verify error

Hi buddy,

May I ask you why you try to update the BIOS? Do you have any issues?

As you probably know BIOS update is always a little bit risky because it rewrites the ROM module and if something goes wrong the ROM module can be destroyed and you are not able to start the computer. So this update should only be done if you have problems with the computer otherwise forget it please.

Remember: Never touch a running system!!! ;)

I bought a Satellite A660 PSAW3A-07P00R last December. Yesterday I updated to BIOS version 1.9 (did not record what version before the update). Running Windows 7 Home Premium.

After the update, I got this message when I want to use the built-in webcam. The message is "Camera device failed to initialize. Either the device is in use by another application, or it is not recognized by the system." I have tried to open the device manager but cannot find any image or camera device there. I have also download the webcam application version from Toshiba site but it does not install.

Is it any way to revert the BIOS back to the old version? Can Toshiba look at this problem for BIOS version 1.9? Has any one come across with this and finally fix it? Your suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A660 - Camera device failed to initialize after BIOS update

Hi Will,

I can?t imagine this problem is related to BIOS update? I also have Satellite A660 with latest BIOS and everything works properly. Camera is also listed in device manager properly.
I?m using the preinstalled Windows 7 64bit version from Toshiba and you?

I would recommend loading the default settings in BIOS after BIOS update. So go into BIOS, press F9 key and save new settings.
Then check the situation again and maybe you can install the camera driver now.

BIOS downgrade is not possible because on Toshiba website only newest BIOS version is listed. Only an authorized service provider has access to older BIOS versions?

So yesterday I got a pop-up message from Toshiba to update my BIOS, so I clicked on it and it started updating but then it said "verification error".

So I closed it, cause I had to restart my computer after a previous update with another program and I thought of trying to update the BIOS after restarting.

But once it restarted it switched off, so I tried switching it back on but the screen is black, the lights are all on(power, batt etc) and the fan is working as well. I tried taking battery out and in again but still black screen.

Could someone please tell me what you think it could be and what I should do.

I also tried with an hdmi plug but it won't recognise it.

Thank you for your help

Answer:Satellite L755-S5349 - BIOS update failed - black screen

I think I?ve got bad news for you.
For me it looks like the BIOS update has failed?
Why? Who knows? maybe some applications which running in the background affected the BIOS update process.

I updated the BIOS on my notebook last evening?everything went smoothly. I downloaded firstly the BIOS package from the Toshiba page. Then unzipped the folder.
I closed all applications which were running like firewall, antivirus software etc?
Then I performed the BIOS update?

Anyway? in cases where BIOS update has failed, you need to get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP in order to fix this? in best case they need to update the ROM module again?

Good luck

And finally i live in Antananarivo Madagascar, there no Toshiba partner here

Thank you!!!!!

You could order the HDD and could replace this yourself? it?s not very tricky as you can see this here:

Hey all, Tried to update BIOS from 3.05 to 3.08, and as it finished installation from the .exe, the system seemed to crash. Now, the computer boots up partially, but never gets to the login screen, windows 8.1 keeps searching for an error but never fixes it, and a system restore didn't work. This leaves me to believe I screwed up the BIOS. I can get to the BIOS menu, and it does say it is version 3.08 at this point. What am I to do now? I have not found any information on what steps I should take other  than "I'm screwed" or create a bootable USB to reflash. Even reflash instructions are tough to accurately find. Thanks! System: Ideapas Y510P,  Windows 8Message I get before windows login screen: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart "

Hi, So I have an old ENVY 15-3000 that I was performing a BIOS update on a few days ago. The SSD in it isn't the factory original OEM one so there isn't an HP_TOOLS partition. So after the update ran inside Windows, it rebooted and is now in a bricked state. The caps lock light is flashing, and the airplane mode key is solid orange. Following HPs instructions on how to make a BIOS recovery USB stick, I have found that the installer files HP provides for this model are outdated and do not have the capability to make a recovery USB drive. Is there anything I can do about this or is it just bricked for good? Thanks,Rashed.

Well I mistakenly decided to try updating the BIOS on the Stick 300 before I was going to try slapping x64 Windows 10 on there.....and it bricked spectacularly, using the EFI USB method.  Found these forums and I have the same behavior as others, blue light on for a bit, flash flash activity on attached usb memory stick, blue light off, and it repeats, zero HDMI output to the monitor at any point. I cannot find a way to ask Lenovo about a repair option.  I would like to talk or email someone about sending it in to be addressed for a certain price type of deal. It is out of warranty, which I find strange that the warranty is so short on this product, and that seems to make it about impossible to contact support. Anyone know of a way to get their attention to get replies?

Simpy put I went to update the bios on my notebook as I have previously without incident.  Well this time the update downloaded, installed and powered down Windows Vista 64bit SP1.  After that nothing! The power lights come on but that is it.  No HP Screen, No MSFT Screen no nothing.  I honestly think this is a bios update caused by HP's own update. This is the update I installed:   Long story short HP online chat support was very helpful and will be sending me a prepaid next day air box to ship at their expense to fix this problem.  Any comments are welcome but I strongly recommend anyone with this notebook not install this update!!! I already took out the battery, unseated the ram and the like with no results.  I sure hope they can fix this.

Answer:DV4-1120us bricked by HP's own Bios update

lordvader311, several of us already bricked our dv4s with HP latest bios update but you can fix it yourself in just a few minutes as followsBTW, the credit for this goes to PONGSTER who told us all about it.....  Edit Note: I've edited the steps for dv4-1140GO users. By the way, the 1125nr, 1140go and the CQ45 seem to share the same board, as they use the exact same BIOS Flashing application.  This bodes well for all of you who need to get theire dv4 fixed, instead of sending it in for repairs.  Remember, if you messed up your BIOS, sending it in for repairs is not the only solution, as I found out, after researching on all possible solutions.  Follow these steps before sending anything in for repairs  I have a dv4-1125nr.  I'm not sure this will help, but you may as well try it out before sending yours in for repair.  I fixed my messed BIOS update by following the exact steps I'm going to outline here.  There is hope, and you don't need to have your Motherboard replaced.  Simply follow the instructions and you should be typing on your dv4 again in no time.  It took me about 10 minutes, tops, to get all this done. Here we go: Okay... here are the exact steps I took to get my dv4 back in working condition after a failed BIOS update using HP's buggy update (I just had to repeat what we all already know... ) I have merely cut and paste 0.0's steps, so all credit goes to him and the genius over at the Acer sect... Earlier today I downloaded from Acer's web site and ran the TMBI0111.exe executable it contained. My laptop rebooted as expected and the flashing process ran to completion (100%).It rebooted again but remained stuck at the Acer boot logo (without the dancing dots). Now the laptop won't boot at all. If I switch the machine off, then on, the same thing happens: stuck at Acer boot logo. I cannot enter the setup utility (F2) either.Note that the machine still reboots when pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and the keyboard illumination command (Fn-F9) still works.Any idea?

This probably won't help, but unplug it, locate the tiny pinhole in the bottom and gently press into the hole until you feel a click. Hold for 5 seconds.Plug it in and hold F2 down and start it.Next, try tapping F8 at boot and see if you can access Safe mode. If it does, uninstall the nVidia driver.

Here is a method that worked to rescue a HDX18 laptop running an Insyde BIOS. Download the latest BIOS for this model. Save it to the desk top and use 7-Zip to "Extract Files, when you open it you will find a file by the name of 3610F34.fd Rename that file to 3610.BIN (I used capitols) Grab a USB flash drive 2 GB or smaller and it should automatically be formatted with FAT32, when it's done copy and paste your newly named BIOS file on to the flash drive, safely eject the drive from your computer. (do not just pull it out from the USB port)  On my Bricked HDX18.   Remove the battery and adapter and hold down the power button for 30 seconds to do a hard reset.  Plug in the flash drive in one of the left USB ports, hold down the "Windows"+"B" key and while your holding it down plug in the adapter.   Boot up and the laptop should start to beep and read the flash drive, release the keys and when finished the laptop will shut down. Leave it sit for 3 minutes and boot to Windows.  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  This method did not work on my dv8, nor did it work here for mrtranmsb : Read more
