Preferred Solution: Satellite L450 - need external caddy to put a Toshiba ODD drive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys,
Could really do with some advice. I've tried to perform a recover on my laptop using the discs provided with the laptop when I bought it, as it was running very slow and thought I'd do a spring clean.
However, after loading it, and it all working, it is still very slow and it says there is a hard drive problem and I should back up.
I don't have a problem with this, or potentially wiping or replacing the hard drive and starting again. But I'm concerned that I will lose the partition on the hard drive set aside for the recovery (Toshiba did this) - and I don't want to lose my "copy" of windows 7.
I hope that makes sense and will love you forever if you can help :)

Answer:Hard Drive Failing on Toshiba Satellite Pro L450-17L

With my son's Toshiba, running Vista, we had created the restore DVDs when new. When the hard drive died I simply replaced it and used the recovery DVDs to reinstall as new. Everything was as factory set and we could even create the recovery discs again. Hope that helps.

Hi. I've been having some trouble with my Toshiba Satellite L450. After starting the computer, the back light goes out after a few seconds. If I light up the screen with a lamp, I can still faintly see what's on it so the screen is still working. Closing the lid and opening it will make it light up for another few seconds. This happens regardless of software as the back light will go out even in the BIOS. I've tried to replace the inverter board with a new one (found one on ebay), but that made no difference. Since the screen is actually lighting up the back light has to be still working and since the inverter board wasn't the problem, I'm thinking that the screen is getting an order to shut off the backlight (as if the lid was closed). Does anyone have some tips?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L450, backlight going out after a few seconds

You may need to replace the CCFL (fluorescent backlight) itself.
Process is similar to this: CCFL Backlight Installation|LCDPARTS.net

Alternately, you could buy a new display screen, which would have the backlight attached.

When the machine appears to be online but the browser doesn't seem to be working it's usually related winsock being corrupted.

Take a look at your device manager to make sure the correct drivers are installed. If not, head on over to Toshiba's website and download the audio drivers from there.

The microphone does'nt work. I checked everything under windows 7-32bit. I tried with Skype and others. Nothing is working. I looked for drivers for soundcard, but the diagnostic on the toshiba support site gives as result : laptop not found. Satellite L450 with extension 173 is not listed.

I bought Satellite L450-173 one year ago. It is not listed in the list of Satellite computers on Toshiba Site. When I do Autodetect, it is not found by the search motor. Why?

Any idea on the subject?

Answer:Satellite L450-173 - Microphone doesn't work and not listed on Toshiba page

Hi reibea2,

Is the microphone listed in device manager?
If yes the microphone should be working and probably you have to enable the microphone boost in Windows sound settings.

Furthermore the microphone belongs to internal webcam so I would reinstall the webcam driver instead sound driver.

The drivers can be downloaded on driver download page where your model is still listed:

Help !  Very frustrated since I purchased external hard drive Western Digital (WD) external hard drive "Elements 1042" for complete backup as well as a complete "Image" of Toshiba Satellite Pro T110 hard drive (120 of 240 GB used) -- using purchased NovaStor's "NovaBackUp software -- so it can be moved to my next laptop.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and all USB ports are fully functional but the software does not recognize a valid drive letter for the WD "Elements 32". Also, Windows Explorer does not display any drive letter for this external hard drive.

However, Windows "plug & play" worked since this WD "Elements 32" external drive appears as a device under Windows "Devices & Printers" window when reporting on all peripherals. It also reports under "Properties" as operational (no updated device driver available when checked that)

My ladyfriend Lori has an HP-Compaq laptop which has no issues recognizing this as a valid device with an assigned hard drive letter. She has USB 2.0 ports like my Toshiba Satellite Pro so the USB 3.0 ready external drive (WD "Elements 32") must be compatible with USB 2.0.

Could there be a USB port issue on my Toshiba Satellite Pro involving power (volts, watts, amps) that is somehow an issue when plugging in the WD "Elements 32" external hard drive ?

If so, is a possible "workaround" to use a "Cross Over" cable to connect my Toshiba with my friend's HP-Compaq where the extern... Read more

My daughter has an eldely Toshiba S2800-200 laptop.
It is broken where the power supply lead enters the machine and she has been quoted ?100 to have it repaired!
She has already bought a new computer so repair is not an option.

The Toshiba, however, contains some files (mainly photographs, music etc.) which she would like to keep, but getting the files out of the laptop and on to her new machine is a problem.

My thought is to buy a cheap USB caddy from somewhere like eBay, remove the hard drive and use the caddy to download the photos. etc. to her new machine via USB.

In order to buy the correct caddy I need to know the full spec. (diameter, capacity etc.) of the Toshiba's hard drive and I don't have a clue!

Can anyone here point me towards the spec. of the hard drive on a Toshiba S2800-200 please?

Answer:Satellite 2800-200 - What external caddy can I use for the HDD

I assume the Satellite 2800 series supports IDE HDD controller and therefore the HDD would be also an 2.5? IDE HDD.
Therefore you should look for an USB IDE HDD case?

Hi
Windows XP, probably Home version, would not boot into either safe or normal modes. Used live media to check condition of the hdd and also removed a couple of Trojans again using a live bootable anti virus disk.

Since then opted to use the Recovery console and attempted to "fixboot c:" but oops now cant even use the recovery console. The issue is "c:\windows\system32\config\system" file corruption. Maybe it is simply a question of copying files to ****.old or .bak and recreating them but from which location?

Because the recovery console will now not work I removed the hdd and loaded it into an external caddy and can now see its BOOT BACKUP & RECOVERY partitions with all of the directories; although the backup partition is pretty much blank , and the recovery partition has stuff but nothing obvious to attempt

The question is what to do I do to try to make this hard drive bootable again

Any suggestions gratefully received. TIA

Why WD in particular? It is more important to know what type of interface it is using, other than that, a 2.5" drive should fit in any 2.5" caddy.

I have looked around the "on-line" stores and am wondering under what heading to look, or what form of words to use, as Caddy is no help at all. Also any advice as to the type of connections and or specification to have will be gratefully received. The old Drive is a couple of years old and about 80GB, so I don't wish to dump it, but to use it as a backup device for my Laptop. The reason for the need may be a lesson to some of us. My previous PC was built into a "Small Form" MiniQ Case. The PSU blew and a replacement is no longer available as it was specific to the Case. So I am now being helped to put all the old bits into a new Case and upgrading to a 250GB HDD.

Hi,

I have a Seagate Freeagent 250gb external hard drive for my laptop. Recently (after a friend stood on it) the USB jack has been pushed inside the casing. I went to a repair place but they said theyll charge about 100 pounds to resolder the jack. So I'm looking into buying a caddy off ebay, removing the hard drive from the seagate casing, and accessing it that way.

The thing is, I know absolutely nothing about the process..are all caddies universal to work with all types of hard drives? Have seagate encrypted their hard drives to only work in their casing?

These are probably very stupid questions but I know very little about hardware. any help will be greatly appreciated. also, please dont be too technical in your answers, treat me like a baby.

Thanks

I have posted separately on the sudden death of my laptop. It seems that a fault in the mains adapter spiked the power supply and wrecked the motherboard.
The repair shop which confirmed the diagnosis has kindly removed the hard drive and put it into a "caddy" enclosure so that I can recover documents etc.
I'm wondering what else I can salvage. I could do with using the CD/DVD Read/Write drive, as our netbook doesn't have one. So I would like to extract the CD/DVD drive and put it into a case/caddy with a USB connection so that I can use it as an external DVD reader/writer.

is this possible? The DVD drive, though removable, has a slightly "shaped" front panel as it aligned with the laptop casing. I have browsed and googled and although there are lots of hard-drive enclosures, I am finding it hard to identify the right size/shape of "box" to house a DVD drive.
as well as the enclosure or box, presumably I need some sort of circuitry or adapter inside it with USB connections at one end and whatever other kind of connections the DVD drive itself needs? I confess I don't know the difference between IDE and SATA plugs and/or sockets....

Can anyone help me with the search for the right enclosure kit, and - even better - a pointer to some sort of tutorial about how to connect it all up and turn the internal laptop DVD unit into an external accessory?
Or is it all more trouble than it's worth? I just don't like throwing out parts that I feel could be (re)used.

Answer:External caddy or enclosure for salvaged DVD drive?

More costly & trouble than it's worth, an external dvd/rw is cheap to buy, memory might be salvagable but depends on how old / make/type it is, or maybe sell laptop complete for parts.

Can anyone tell me how much current is used by a SSD drive mounted in an external USB caddy? I am wondering if I can connect it to the USB input of a Humax HDR-1100S box.
I have tried to get the answer from Humax and from the Hummy support Forum with no success.

Answer:Current draw of SSD drive in external caddy

SSDs use 2 to 4 watts as opposed to 6 -7 watts used by a portable HDD (wich works fine in my Humax Fox T2 front or rear USB ports)
Therefor a SSD in a caddy should work fine.

Hi,

I have a Laptop running Win98 1st. Ed. It's on it's 2nd hard drive. The first was a IBM Travelstar (model# DKLA-24320). It was replaced when the Stone Monkey Virus made it impossible to access the dirve.

Now I am looking for what I think is called an external hard drive caddy or enclosure. I would like to place the old hard drive in the external caddy or enclosure. The caddy or enclosure would have to be either Parallel, USB or PCMICA adaptable. I am hoping to then be able to access the old hard drive that way.

Is there such a Caddy or enclosure, does it go by any other name? If there is such a device please tell me the proper name and where I can find them.

I'd also like to know whether, this sounds like a possible way to access an old laptop hard drive?

Thanks

Answer:laptop Hard Drive External Caddy or Enclosure

You can pick up USB external disk cases for peanuts for 2.5" disks. I use them for traveling storage. Here's one typical example: http://www.imagestore.us/product.asp?pf_id=HY-2.5case&dept_id=04-005

Note that you may need a cheap +5V adapter to use this case, you can buy them in the $20 range with the supply included. www.pricewatch.com is your friend.

Hi all,I've just bought a icy box caddy and a hard drive to setup for a mate an external back up device. However, my brother has just bought a Lacie external hard-drive and suggests it's better/safer to use/handle than a do-it-yourself caddy & drive as the "proper" external drives better protect and against knocks and stuff.(We don't want to take his kit apart and check as it'll void the warrenty.)What's the score? Is there any truth in this?

Answer:External Hard-drive Vs Caddy & drive???

No, an external drive is just as at risk as a drive in a caddy.I myself prefer the icy box rather than an external drive for the simple reason that you can change the disk in side and internal disks are cheaper than external. Also, is good for when when friends need to retrieve their from dead computers that they haven't backed-up!

Hi everyone I have another problem A couple of months back I bought a External IDE hard drive caddy which is called Hi Point smart mobile storage. This afternoon it started giving me a problem, I went to switch it on and the computer would not recognize it but it will find it and display the hard drive as unallocated when I know the hard drive is in perfect condition and I have a lot of songs on it. But about 4-6 hours later I tried again and then it says it cannot load the driver software. IF this is any help as well there is a blue and red light on the caddy blue for power and red for hard disk activity the red light is always on it will not go off. I have tried lots of hard drives seagate, Maxtor, western digital and it still does the same. Please can you help. I hope it is not a hard drive problem. Also my punctuation is not very good I am sorry about that.David.

I have removed the blanking piece from the dvd drive bay and replaced it with a caddy. In the caddy is a 120GB SSD. The SSD works perfectly when the OS is Windows 10 and I can use it for data. At this stage I do not want to swap drives.

However, I am a Linux user.

When booting into Linux the drive is never seen. The boot order is the same as is in Win10, HDD, USB, DVD. At every boot I get the message:

'special device sdb1 does not exist.'

If I then boot into Win10 and then boot back into Linux, the SSD is found, can be partitioned and mounted correctly. If I then shut down and boot back into Linux, the SSD has gone! Why should it need win10 to allow Linux to find it?

The BIOS is the latest and the SSD firmware is the latest.

It appears that Linux does not detect the drive on its own. I have tried every suggestion I can find in Linux forums to no avail and was wondering if another Toshiba user had managed to get a drive, not necessarily an SSD, working in a caddy.

I bought a esata-sata cable and tried to connect a esata external hard drive througn a sata 2nd hard drive caddy. The result is that my T42 can not detect the external hard drive. I don't understand why it fails. I observed that both the leds on the caddy and above the caddy are lighting when I boots T42. However, both leds dims after that. Any suggestion?PS. I know using a pcmcia will be easier. However, several reviews confirmed that the writing speed is limited to 30 MB/s through pcmcia. The writing speed on the caddy is at least 55 MB/s when I tested it with a 2.5 in hard drive.

Hi I have a 1tb external hard drive that I have been using with my old Toshiba laptop for over a year. It has always worked perfectly. I have recently begun using my new laptop which is a Satelite L50-B-1P1.

The new laptop is not recognising the external hard drive. The first time I used it with the new laptop it worked fine. Then I plugged it in again and it was not showing up at all. A few days later, I tried again, and it was working fine. I have been trying it again over the last week and it doesn't show up at all.

It is not showing up in Device Manager. However the blue light is on, on the hard drive but just the laptop is just not recognising it. I am running Windows 8.1

I have just checked with my old laptop and the external hard drive is working perfectly with that still.

Can anyone help with this?

Is this on Win10?

I'd a similar problem and re-installing the drivers for every entry on USB section in device manager and then restarting worked..

You can also uninstall each of them and then reboot and Windows will re-install them for you.

After doing this mine started working fine again!

Hope it helps!

Hi,

So tried attaching two external harddrives into my tablet in hoping that I can transfer files between them but it turns out if I plugged them both it hangs my Windows Explorer. Not only that, one of my harddrive starts making funny sounds. It seems like it can't power both device. I tried one harddrive and my phone thereafter and both keeps getting disconnected. Is anyone experiencing the same problem or is my unit faulty?

Thanks before

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Click 10 - Unable to attach 2 External Harddrives

Unless both drives are self powered you are likely to have this problem with any tablet.

I've just purchased:
"Creative I-Trigue 3400" 2.1 channel external PC speakers for my Toshiba M60 Laptop.

My problem is that their is no sound in the right speaker.

* Headphones/onboard speakers work fine
* I have updated the sound drivers (Realtek AC97)
* The creative speakers work great with my I-Pod
* The creative speakers work great with my cheaper/older laptop.

I have experimented with the sound panel settings including the Toshiba Virtual Sound settings with no success.

any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M60 - Problem configuring sound for 2.1 external speakers

On closer examination, i noticed that there is a slight (millimeters)overhanging "lip" above the headphone jack.

The creative speaker's are shipped with a heavy duty input jack that gets partially blocked by this overhang - using my cheaper "thinner" input cable solved my problem.

This is a bit of a challenge. My monitor on my Toshiba Satellite is broken and I have been using an external monitor for it. Now, for some reason, the external monitor has been shut off. I don't know if a short cut key has been hit accidentally or something and I don't know how to get my external monitor on again. (External monitor is working fine on other systems, so it's not the problem.) Problem is that I can see nothing on my notebook monitor because it is broken: cracked actually. There are a bunch of shortcut possibilities on the F keys, but I've tried them all and get nothing. Is there any way I can get this to work blindly? Can anyone help? Hope I explained the situation adequately.

Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Toshiba Satellite 2410 external monitor problems

Took the battery out for a time and replaced it and then restarted the laptop with the external monitor plugged in. On the outside of the laptop are buttons so as to use it as a - get this - "CD Player". Aparently, when a tech was looking at it earlier, he pressed the buttons and somehow made the system turn into "CD Player" mode, which - I don't get it cuz it makes no sense to me - killed the display. Perhaps it's just a glitch cuz the excuse is kinda lame, but we are dealing with computers, right? So, case closed. Have a great weekend!

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55Dt with a currently broken cable to the screen (or something broken haven't figured it out yet). The laptop powers on and i can hear everything on, just the screen is black. I would like to hook it up to an external monitor but it isn't letting me do that. When the screen worked I just plugged it in and it showed up on the external monitor. Now that the screen doesn't work I get nothing, ive tried every function key, different monitors, and cords (vga and hdmi).

Is there something im missing, is it just not possible with this laptop to plug it into an external monitor if there isn't any power going to the screen?

I have been looking for a good one for some time and have now found it.You may have seen the PC World TV adverts for the Toshiba 320Gb USB 2 External drive for 109.99. I have bought one and it is great! It comes in a sealed box (my PC World had dozens on a special rack) so you can be sure of getting a new one, rather than one that has been returned. It is only compatible for 2000/XP and comes ready formatted in NTFS. There is no software necessary and you simply attach it to the PC which tells you it is installed and ready for use. No problems with software conflicts (as I had with my Maxtor 1-Touch) and the Manual is a example of clarity and simplicity. Just what I was looking for. However, as with all things, I have a query. I am well aware that no drive will actually display the full size of the drive. The manual explains this is because of the way manufacturers round-up Mb into Gb. However, when looking at the Properties of this disc, after installation, it showed a totally "red" image (indication totally empty) at a size of 299Gb. This did not surprise me until I noticed that the text above indicated 73Mb "in use". How can this be is there is no software involved? A slightly smaller size yes, but part in use?I expect there will be a simple explanation and I would welcome clarification, please, if anyone can do this.

Answer:Toshiba 320 Gb External USB drive

It's to do with the way that drive manufacturers describe their capacity versus the way the PC measures and displays it. In effect, for every 100Gb you will apparently "lose" 24Gb, so for a 320 Gb drive that would be about 73 Gb "lost". It's perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about.

Looking for help !

My P200-1EE will not play HD DVDs. When the HD DVD software starts with an HD DVD in the drive, the player displays on the screen and after a short while returns an error. The message is ' +Toshiba HD DVD Player - Unable to output the video to an external device. Please switch your display device by pressing the FN F5 keys after ending the application'+.

Problem is that I am not trying to use anyother display than the screen of the portable. Only the screen of the portable is available when I use the FN +F5 suggestion. It does not cure the problem.

Drivers are up to date as far as i can tell.

All help greatly appreciated.

my toshiba usb hard disk not prparly detect

Answer:my toshiba 500 gb external drive error

Is the drive recognized by another computer? If not, it could be either the hard drive inside the caddy, or the caddy itself.I've had a number of USB caddies go south on me. The hard drive inside is usually okay, and can be slaved to your machine, if you need to access the data.If you have another hard drive lying around, you can put it into the caddy to test it.If you find the drive is okay, but the caddy is not working, you can buy an empty caddy fairly cheaply and place your 500GB drive inside. Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

I got one of those recently and used the Toshiba tools in the hard drive to back up my system. So then I reinstalled my Windows but I can't get the files I backed up off of the External HD. They're there. It shows that they are taking up space. But I can't access them. The folder that they're in is full of .RIM files. I can only get them by using the tools to restore or sync my system. I tried both but they don't work. When I try to restore, it shows me the folder with all my files, I select it, but then there's nothing to select in the "snapshot" section. (See attachment). Then if I try to sync the stuff on the HD to my desktop, I get this screen (see second attachment) and it does nothing. It just sits like that. The files remaining and completed and time just all stay at 0. I know my files are on the HD. Is there any way to manually get them off of it? I should have never used the Toshiba tools to back it up. Shoulda just manually copied all the files onto it cuz I did that for 1 or 2 files and I can access them just fine. I'd be really thankful if someone could help me out here. Thanks!!

I have a new 2T Toshiba external hard drive. I have Windows 7 on my desktop. I have Windows XP on my laptop. I want to be able to save data from each computer to the external hard drive. I want to have 1T on the external hard drive designated for each computer. Can this be done and if so how do I do it?

Answer:toshiba external hard drive

I would just make two folders, one for the Win XP data and one for the Windows 7 data...that gives you the maximum flexibility, but you can go into Disk Management with it plugged in (USB 2 or 3?) to a computer and delete the partition on it now and make two equal new partitions ( or split as you wish) and format them to NTFS.

Are the two computers on a network? If so you can share the drive on whatever computer you wish and map it as a network drive on the other computer so it shows in Computer window and is easily accessable. Otherwise you will have to plug into each as needed. I would make the drive letter somehing deeper in the alphabet that has space between it and the next nearest letter. Then it should retain the same drive letter each time it is plugged into a system and make for easier backups in that you won't ever have to change the path to the drive.

Hi

I have recently bought a 1TB external drive. It was working fine until one day after I switched off my computer and when I started it up the next day my computer didn't read my external drive. I tried everything. I tested it on a laptop and it automatically picked it up, so I tried on my computer again but it still didn't pick it up. Since then I've tried it on various laptops and on each single one it worked but not on my computer or any other computer that I tried. I have copied the start up files on the external itself but it doesn't have a auto run function in it.

What could be the cause of this, as I really need to access my drive since there are important things on it and I don't own a laptop.

Hey there. I have an issue with my Toshiba External Hard Drive not showing up on my new PC. Shows up just fine on my old PC, but doesn't so much as show up in drive management on my new pc. The only real difference between the two systems being the new PC is much faster, and it has 3.0 USB hubs instead of 2.0 USB hubs... I'm about 98% the files are there, the new PC just isn't picking it up. I'll note, though I don't know how much it has to do with anything, my drive when plugged into my old PC will show as a white light and blink white, where on my new PC it is a solid blue color and doesn't flash. And again, on my new PC, doesn't even register or show up as a partition. I will also note, every other USB item I've plugged into the same USB port functions (mouse, keyboard, speakers, thumb drives) and I've tried multiple other ports. It isn't the kind that requires an external power source (just like a giant thumb drive). It has 500 GB's total, and had about 700mb or so free last I had it open on my old PC. This is a link to the same make and model as mine. https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Canvio-Portable-Hard-Drive/dp/B005J7YA64?th=1Any ideas on how to access my stuff on my new PC?

Answer:Toshiba External Hard Drive not showing on new PC?

Do you have any thumb drives to test on this USB port to see if its a bad port on new computer? It could be possible for 2 of 4 wires to make connection to power the drive but no data communication on the other 2 wires. If other data devices such as a thumb drive work fine then it is likely a driver issue where the controller in the external hard drive Windows doesnt have the proper driver to mount this drive.Solutions to gain access to your data at the new computer are:- Locate the driver needed for Toshiba External USB drive support for your OS and install it so it knows how to mount this drive on new PC.- Move the hard drive inside to a different external drive caddy that the newer OS supports the drivers for- Remove the HDD from the Toshiba external case and mount it direct to a SATA Data and Power connection to a desktop computer- Connect to the old computer through a network share, and have this older computer connected to the Toshiba external drive and then from newer computer access the data on the Toshiba drive through the network share with new computer connected over network to old computer. Old computer has no problems with driver support to mount this drive and so you have access to the data.- Use a newer external hard drive that new computer can use, connect this to old computer and copy entire drive from old drive to new drive and now you have it accessible on new computer.- Connect Toshiba drive to old computer and connect a say 64GB USB stick to the old compu... I have a Toshiba DWC250 5TB external drive formatted ReFS that I cannot detect in either Disk Management or by using DiskPart/List Disk. Cabling and power are sound. The unit is not user serviceable because the case is not designed to be opened. I use it in a storage pool on Windows 10 Pro. I am having problems with the pool and removed the drive to check for files with a different computer.

I would like to use Diskpart/clean or clean all on it but first I have to get the disk detected. The unit has not shown signs of drive failure so it may be re-useable. Is there a technique to force detection (should it still be useable)? Please note the file system in not NTFS. It is ReFS. I have already detached it from its home PC and attached to a Surface Pro 4 via the Surface Dock to see if I can get it detected, but without success.

Answer:Toshiba external hard drive not detectible

You can open the case. Here is a video that will show you where the locking tabs are, but hopefully knowing where the tabs are you can finesse it open a bit easier:
Disasembly and assembly of a TOSHIBA External Hard Drive - YouTube

I would start by plugging it into a blue, USB 2.0 port, go into UEFI/BIOS setup and see if the drive is recognized as a possible boot source.

As a last resort, open the case, connect the hard drive via standard SATA and power cables.

Also...when it is connected, does device manager show any unrecognized/troubled devices?

It seems that the Recover disks for Toshiba European notebook models can be shipped to the countries in the EMEA region only.

However, you could try to install the clean Win 7 OS on this notebook.
The missing drivers and tools could be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

What do you think about that?

They said it Toshiba's policy, so has anyone got any idea where I may get one?

Answer:Need new DC socket for my Satellite L450-136

I saw such parts on eBay. Check it a bit and try to find the right one for your Satellite notebook. As far as I know it is soldered on the mainboard so for exchange you need someone who can do it for you.

Of course whole notebook must be disassembled. I don?t know if you can do this alone. What do you think about that?

Any advice on installing a 128gb SSD in place of the hard-drive, using this for the OS (Windows 7), and putting the old HDD in the optical drive slot for use as storage.

Is this relatively easy to do on this model, and would a fresh install be wiser than cloning?

There are no files on the drive apart from the OS that need to be preserved - all documents etc are on googledrive, dropbox, and onedrive.

Would adjustments need to be made when doing a fresh install to preserve the recovery files on D?

I created a system restore drive a while back -- does this include Windows 7, or would I need to download it and get the licence number.

Is it easy enough to plug everything in and use the 'system restore' USB stick to re-load Windows?

Thanks for any answers

Interesting time doing a Windows 10 Upgrade with an old L450-17K notebook - the first time it didn't work, so used the Recovery USB, went back to Windows 7, then upgraded up to Windows 10 again, but again it didnt work, but the Recovery USB had recreated the Recovery Partition, so then restarted by pressing F8 (interesting that the new Recovery Partition looks quite different to the one on the Recovery USB by the way). Then instead of waiting for Windows updates, downloaded Windows 10 directly using the Windows Media Creator, and installed it immediately - this time it works. But then wanted to transfer the OS to a Samsung Evo 840 SSD - prevented by the Magician software which does not recognise Windows 10, so had to use Macrium Reflect, cloning all the partitions as they are. But it came out rather funnily because there is an extra drive which is very small, and the Recovery Partition was cloned over and takes up too much room, so am thinking of using Partition Wizard to shrink the Recovery Partition down to minimum size (would it work anyway having been moved to the SSD?) and merging it with C (where Onedrive is). But that leaves this odd Drive G, which is very small and appears to be empty (it contains an empty folder titled Recovery). This is all idle experimentation, when in fact the Windows 10 is now working pretty well on the SSD, though the Celeron processor peaks at 100% making the machine freeze quite often when asked to do many things - prob not a very good process... Answer:Windows 10 on old Satellite Pro L450

Correction - these are the views of This PC and Computer Management before and after - the first is the Disk before migration, with Onedrive on Drive C, and the Recovery Partion on Drive D.

The second is the Disk after migration, the third is This PC after migration (including detail of the MicroSD storage added afterwards). System G, on exploring, contains a folder named 'Recovery', which when opened is empty.

Data D contains the Recovery Partition. Onedrive Data is in C.

Hi

I have a Satellite L450-188 and it has stopped working. I have tried to use the recovery disc but it wont recover and says the dics 0 and 1 no physical drive. Do you know what this means and how I can get round it at all?

Thanks emma

Answer:Satellite L450 - Won't boot

Hey,

> it has stopped working
What does this mean? You can?t boot into Windows anymore or do you get an error message?

Well, usually to reinstall Windows you have to boot from first recovery disk and then follow the screen instructions to reinstall Windows. Everything happens automatically and you get factory settings back.

How do I connect my laptop to my Toshiba regza widescreen television?

Answer:Satellite L450-181 - How to connect to TV?

Hi ian guest,

Unfortunately your notebook doesn?t have HDMI output so you have to use the VGA port on your computer. The most TVs also have this VGA port so you can use a VGA cable to connector your notebook to TV.

If you have done this start both devices and select the VGA (PC) channel on your TV. Press FN+F5 key combination to switch between monitors (internal and external one).

Ok, before I go into the problem itself I would like to say that I don't have the slightest clue about computing and laptops etc. So I would appreciate no jargon and please keep guides so an absolutely uneduated fool could understand haha.

Basically, one day I just decided I had enough of my *Toshiba Satellite Pro L450-17L* going really slow so I went to restore the disk and I cannot remember how I did this. Anyway, everything seemed to be going fine until it came up with a white screen after fully rebooting saying PLEASE WAIT Finishing installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!

I think at this point my laptop turned off because it needs to be plugged in at all times and the charger came loose (this is because the battery has been completely drained) and now all I have is a guest account and no other accounts whatsoever! I cannot reboot the laptop because of this and was hoping if someone could tell me another way I can reboot it because I can't believe this is the only way.

All help and guides are very much appreciated!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this white screen comes up everytime now and never goes away!

Answer:I cannot reboot my Satellite Pro L450-17L

>... and I cannot remember how I did this
To be honest it is not easy to say much about this issue and in my opinion you should install recovery image again following description on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

Do not do anything before your notebook is connected to AC power supply.

Hi

I have just bought a second hand L450, I had it working fine just after getting it I shut it down correctly now have no power,no lights apart from green light to advise charger plugged in, when removed nothing.

Wont power on with or without power cord have tried all things reseating memory, hard drive and removing battery and pressing power button - still nothing

can anyone help please

Thanks
Ellen

Answer:Satellite L450 No Power

Did Windows Shut down completely? Or did it go into Hibernation or Suspend mode?

You could try resetting the system.

Remove the Battery and AC Adapter, hold the power button down for a few seconds to draw any excess power, then plug in the AC Adapter and see how that goes. If still no luck, you can try leaving the notebook without power overnight.

You could also try removing one of the RAM (Memory) Modules as well. One of them may be causing problems.

If still no good, you may need to send it to a Toshiba Repair Center for a quote.

Hi Frnds

I hav a Toshiba 1 TB external HDD. It was working fyn till today. Now it is not showing in My Computer or Disk Management. It does make the sound when I connect or disconnect it from the laptop. and the HDD light remains on.

Please advise how to fix this

Thanks

Answer:Toshiba external USB hard drive not detected in any laptop

Go under the Device Manager and uninstall all the USB Controllers then reboot your PC don't connect the 1 TB just yet. Make sure nothing is connect to those ports like a keyboard or mouse otherwise they'll lockup. Once rebooted Windows will rebuild the table for USB Controllers. Now you should be all set. Unless you have some sort of conflict with IRQ or Registry setting. There is a free app called USBDVIEW what you would do is disconnect from all non-disconnected USB devices that are stored on the PC these settings can cause all sort of issues.

I have an old Toshiba 500GB external HDD given to me by a friend who said it was unusable. I got the message "this device needs formatting" which I did (NFTS) and started putting music files on it, I got 5 albums on it when copying the 6th I got the message "can't read from the source file or disk" The tracks were all mp3 as were the ones I put on successfully. The total of the 5 albums is 415MB, has anyone any ideas what's wrong or is it ready for the bin.

Answer:Toshiba external hard drive can't read source.....

if its not trustworthy then bin it.

My sister's hard drive was going out, so i decided to buy her a new one. I also got an external enclosure to put the old one it. I installed the new one, and got windows to starting up, then I left. Well, she is now saying the 2.5" external enclosure will not fit her hard drive.

The hard drive in the enclosure is a hitachi 60gig, not sure of the model number. The hard drive in the computer is a 250gig that i bought from circuit city, where the enclosure is from also.

Are there special connections for this? It doesn't make sense that it would take a normal drive to replace the old one, but not be able to use a normal enclosure.

Answer:Toshiba Laptop internal hard drive being used as an external

Did you buy the correct enclosure to fit the drive?
Pata or Sata?

I never had this problem before but all of a sudden when I click to safely remove the external HD a pop up shows up saying I can't until I close it down. (I can't remember exactly what it says verbatim). I then can only manually take out the plug from my laptop. I am running Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. How can I rectify this? I'm worried that by just disengaging the plug I'm ruining something on my external HD. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

I have a TOSHIBA PA2669U External Floppy Drive and it works well. But when I
tried to make a bootable disk recently, I found the cable attached to it missing.

I wonder if anyone can do me a favor by offering me the pin-out schematic that I can make a makeshift alternative.

Thanks in advance,

GQSHA

hi my friend asked me to have a look at a there external hard drive after she split coke on it, and it stop working, the power is still getting to it the hard drive is still spining but the driver appears to be missing.

there is no vissable water marks (no sign of damage within the casing) (also there is no arking, burn marks)

there is power to the board and driver (light on the front and the driver spinning)

mine and there laptop both recognise that there is something there (as a 'unknown device') but it doesn't recognise it as a storage device.

when it did work it installed drivers from the windows drivers. i manually tryed choosing these drivers without success. it came back error code 10.

so i am unsure what the problem to be except the driver is missing,

much abilaged if anyone can help

just to in form i am running on vista

Answer:Toshiba external hard drive unknown device

I think it likely that the usb interface in your external enclosure may be damaged.
The drive may still be undamaged, and transferring it to a new enclosure may be your best best.
Such enclosures are relatively cheap and easily available.
I would not suggest continuing to use the existing enclosure.
Depending on the damage done to the usb interface, that damaged device could cause damage to the usb port of your computer.
Hope this helps.

Is a problem between hd designed for windows7 and software xp?

Second question...........does this pc have inside any blutooth divices? I didn't find any.............

Thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L450-180 Blutooth and Driver

> First question........why i get this advise? Audio on bus high definition audio not recognize if i have alredy on the list "realtek sound card" correctly installed?

The Realtek HD audio sound card needs certain MS patches for Win XP.
The patches are a part of SP3!

So you have to install FIRSTLY the SP3 and then the Realtek sound driver.
Please keep this in mind

Regarding the BT:
Check if there is a BT label at the bottom of the unit. NO label means no BT module

It clearly says DVD+ReWritable on the outside of the disc tray as well as CD+ReWritable but any attempts to burn a DVD end in "No burner found" . A burner is one of the main reasons I chose this model.
Does anyone actually know if there is supposed to be a DVD burner in the L450-13g?

The MS software is there. I checked the device manager and all I get is CDDVDW TS L633C which is not helpful.

If there isnt, it shouldnt be printed on the tray.

Answer:Satellite Pro L450-13G - Capable of burning a DVD?

Turns out L633C is not on the win7 64bit compatible list.

If this turns out to be the problem, why would both be on the laptop together

Hello,

I have bought recently this model

It works nicely , there is something strange with the cooling fan:
with win 7 , using performance battery mode fan turns on every 2 -3 minutes, runs for 10 second thens , it turns off.
This happens even with low temp
heasink seems working fine since cpu with stress test goes not above 53 degrees after 1 h.

after that i worked on power profiles ( even with advanced toshiba cooler option set to minimum )
using power saving mode it runs a little slower, but every 5 minutes.. that seems quite often.

Is that normal with this model
i got l300 and was running not so frequently.

Pls le me know if normal or not.

thx and BR.
Exonex

Answer:Satellite Pro L450-180 fan question - issue

Every notebook is different in terms of the cooling system. Usually the fan spins more often if the CPU is more powerful.
You could try turning off Windows 7 Aero (3D rendering) and turning down the CPU Speed. A BIOS Update may also help.

Hi,

I recently supplied a client with a new Satellite Pro L450-13P (Windows 7 Professional). He came back to me the couple of days ago saying it was a great laptop but CD's/DVD's will not auto play. I Googled this problem and tried an all manner of suggested solutions including various registry changes, uninstalling and reinstalling the DVD device driver, unchecking and rechecking the always use AutoPlay tick box all failed.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 (Vista) and thought I would try inserting a autoplay disk into my drive. To my astonishment my laptop had developed the same problem, it used to AutoPlay but now it doesn't.

Any assistance people can give me with regard to this issue will be gratefully accepted.

Many Thanks,
Mark

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L450-13P - CD's/DVD's does not auto play

Hi Mark

As far as I know autoplay can be defined in ?Autoplay? settings (control panel).
There you can define what should happen when you insert each type of media or device.
For instance I have all options set to ?Ask me every time?.
Have you tried to change these settings?

Have you tested it with different medias?

If you have noticed the same on your notebook does this means you have tested it with the same media as your client?

Hi friends,

I have a problem that seems to be common on these treads, on models, L450, through to L500 and above, and that is little sound out of the built in internal speakers, common complaint is that you have to hold the laptop to your ears to just hear sound.

My old Satellite P10 I can hear other side of room , no amount of adjustment improves it, ok through head phones and external speakers ,the internal test facility says everything ok ,surely not.

Any thoughts please?

Does anyone know if there are docking stations for these. So far I have not found any.

Answer:Docking Station for Satellite L450

Hi

How do you want to dock the Satellite L450 with an docking station?
Does your Satellite L450 support a docking slot at the boot of the unit?
I don?t think so!

Only some Portege and Tecra series have been equipped with such slot which allows to dock the unit with a docking station?

You can use an Dynadock. Such Dynadock can be connected to a USB port
Google simply for Toshiba Dynadock.

I have a new Toshiba Satellite L450-181.

Whenever I go online now, the message balloon "Toshiba HDD/CSD Alert" comes up.
If I click on it, a window with the word "dwRet=12" appears, with a button marked "debug". Pressing this brings the message, "Unable to get disc info. Cannot use the alert feature."

Can anyone please help me with this? What does it mean and how do I resolve it?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L450-181 - How do I resolve HDD/CSD alert?

Has any preinstalled software been uninstalled?

Try this:

Remove the HDD/SSD Alert program from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Remove the Toshiba Value Added Package program from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Reboot
Download and install the latest Value Added Package from the Toshiba Website
Download and install the latest HDD/SSD Alert from the Toshiba Website
