Satellite Pro S300 - How to enter supervisor password?

Question: Satellite Pro S300 - How to enter supervisor password?

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-11Y laptop and have a problem. A day, I decided that wanted to set a supervisor password for the bios of the laptop. Now, I remeber this password, but when I entry to the BIOS setup, I can't view any option for change o disable this password. I can't entry this password for set it me a supervisor, and also I can't modify some options as for exemple, the boot sequence.

How can I delete this password or how can I login as supervisor? I don't see any option for it, and I need to modify the boot sequence.

A lot of thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite Pro S300 - How to enter supervisor password?

Hello

About this I can only say check your user manual!!! ;)

There I have founded the following information:
+C:\Program Files\Toshiba\PassowrdUtility\TOSPU.exe+
+This utility lets you do the following:+
+Register, delete or change the supervisor password+
+Create or invalidate a supervisor password token+

Check this and then you should be able to delete the password if you know the current.

Have a Satellite PRO S300 (PSSB0A-06500T) which is BSOD-ing with Stop 7B and I want to get into the full part of the BIOS so I can reset boot order to enable me to re-install Win XP.

Esc - F1 just gets me into the restricted part of Page 1 of the ACPI BIOS set-up. I know the Supervisor password! So how do I get to a password prompt that will allow me into both pages of the BIOS set-up.

I have tried F12 on boot to attempt to get into the boot options on the Toshiba splash screen, but that does not work.

Answer:Sat S300 - How to get Supervisor Password Prompt to Enter Full BIOS Setup?

I think you hold down a button during power on. Try holding the "INS" key to get the supervisor password prompt to appear.

I've set a BIOS supervisor password (no user password is set). I know the password.

If I hit F2 it enters the text editor but does not give any opportunity to enter the password, and so whilst I can view everything there is no way to change anything.

Any suggestions?

Hello! I've got an X200 on my hands with all the required passwords (boot and supervisor). However, I do not get a prompt for a supervisor password when I enter bios, only a prompt for the boot one and then I enter "user mode" in bios. How do I get to the prompt for the supervisor password?

Answer:Where do I enter the supervisor password on a lenovo x200?

May i guess? -You've set the same supervisor password as the user password. - They should be different.

Try to turn off the computer, press and hold the F1-key, turn on computer and release the F1-key while the permanent beeps.

When entering the BIOS, I am first prompted for the hard disk password (the appropriate icon is shown). I am then prompted for the power on password (the appropriate icon is show) which is NOT enabled in the BIOS. Simply pressing the Enter key get me to the BIOS but without the ability to change any settings. I've tried a number of methods but never see the supervisor icon password prompt. I tried the documented approach of disabling power on password (it was set initially). The hard disk and supervisor password are the same and 18 characters long.

Answer:Unable to enter BIOS supervisor password

Hi

I've just taken delivery of an R500 with Xubuntu installed.

I need to get into the BIOS to change some settings. I know the supervisor password and I know that normall one presses ESC and then F1 to get into the BIOS. Unfortunately, I don't get the option to enter the supervisor password - it just puts me straight into the 'User' settings.

I'm also having problems getting the F12 boot device settings to work.

The manual suggests that I use the Windows Configuration utility to adjust some of the bIOS settings, however - I'm not running windows ...

Any thoughts?

Answer:Portege R500: Enter BIOS with known supervisor password

Thats weird...as far as I know you will had have windows installed to access some further bios options.

The problem is there is no other software then this windows configuration utility and the common moduls which can access the hardwarelayer.

So, if you want to change something you will have to use windows.. :/

Hint: you can use another HDD where you can install Windows. Maybe a good way to keep ubuntu on the harddisk

I set a supervisor password while I was in Windows xp.
I wanted to set the password: " nonhyj14 " but I failed & entered " nonhyj&' " .It was stupid cause I'm a student in computer Science. I didn't press Shift button before press 1-button & 2-button.So when I started my notebook, windows didn't start and there was no booting.Immediately after the message "In touch with toshiba" I saw "Password:".I entered " nonhyj&' " but because of the fact that characters " & " and " ' " are special (that's what I read after I did set my unlikely password in my notebook's documents ) my password didn't work.So I would like to know:
-If it's normal that windows doesn't start before I have to enter supervisor password
-What can I do to access my computer? aren't there any generic password that I could enter ? I read for the bios password that the solution is on hardware side but I don't want to open my computer which is brand new.Should I send my computer to toshibarepair?

I moved the supervisor password in the BIOS Password and saved the changes by pressing F10.

After restarciu your computer and select F2 Toshiba launches the Setup Utility (BIOS) without asking for a password. Supervisor-required option and other options are disabled.

I do not have the possibility of introducing any settings in the BIOS.
How do I force the password you enter supevisor, and unlock the options in the BIOS?

The BIOS access can be secured using the BIOS (user) password.
If you set the supervisor password without the user password, the access to the BIOS will be still possible but some essential options will be secured.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-29W; How to remove Supervisor Password

Supervisor password is very important security feature and some kind of ?user reset? is not possible. You can cancel it but you must know the right password to confirm that you are the real notebook owner.

Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this. You must just approve that you are notebook owner and they can cancel it for you. Of course you must pay for it.

As far as I know there are several techniques for password removal and it depends on notebook model.

Contact nearest Toshiba ASP and ask for help.

HI

We have a Satellite A100-206 in the office.

A colleague trying to protect the laptop has set user password in bios.
I don't know what exactly she do but at the bootup a password is requested.

Then she ask me to remove the password so I have typed the password, entred the bios and clear the user password.
But doing this I 've also note that the supervisor password was already set but not selectable (grey colored) .

Anyhow I've saved and reboot.
The problem is that now the O.S. start without asking a password, but I cannot enter the bios anymore because it ask a password and is not the one the collegue remember to have set.

Why I cannot enter anymore in th bios as user?
I've also search the hwsetup in windows to re set the user password as indicated in the manual but this software is not present.

best regards
Diego

Answer:Satellite A100-206 supervisor password issue

Download the password utility / hwsetup from the Toshiba Website, this software will allow you to modify the passwords.

I was with some friends in a w-lan net and then some Trojan were placed to every of our Laptops. Now he took my administrator rights and set an Supervisor Password.
Now i cant use my Laptop anymore.

Can u help me pls fast ?

Answer:Satellite L670-134 How to delete Supervisor password?

You know what supervisor password is?

The supervisor password is only to secure Bios settings and Hardware setup.
Mostly set by an administrator so a user can't change Bios settings.
The user may start and shut down the notebook however he wants and he is able to work with the machine normally - he just needs the supervisor password to enter the Bios or Hardware setup.

So it?s kind of security and if you don?t know this password, you can not delete this?
In such case you have to contact the Toshiba ASP in order to remove this ;(

On normaly keyboard the pass is 9181915o ,can someone pls help me what are the kyboard posibilities for this Toshiba Laptop for that password. With FN+F10 it writes 1115 for that password and with FN+F11 it writes 91819156 .There are other sticky keys?or other posibilities?maybe i pressed something on the keyboard before register the password.

Hi,

I own a Toshiba Satellite C855-12K and there is a problem with BIOS supervisor password. Once I have set the password I was unable to access BIOS anymore because it says that the password is incorrect.
I am 100% positively sure that the password im putting in is the one I've set in BIOS before because i used the same password to lock my hard drive.

Somewhere online I've read that this version of BIOS has a bug that makes it unable to remember password.
Is there any solution to this or I have to send my laptop to Toshiba?
OS is windows 7 professional-

Answer:Satellite C855-12K - incorrect BIOS supervisor password

Unfortunately there is no some ?magic? solution. I cannot comment some speculations about BIOS bug but if there is some problem with BIOS Toshiba service provider must be informed about it.

I recommend you to contact nearest authorized Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can remove your password.

This password protection is very serious security feature and public forum is not the best place to write about ways how it can be removed.

Please, any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Your notebook is not US notebook model and you should use drivers from European support page.
At the moment Toshiba didn't start Win7 support but I hope it will happen soon. The question is if your notebook model will be Win7 supported.

Anyway I think you can use touchpad driver designed for A300 but we must wait until Toshiba offers all drivers.

Satellite U400-150 /PSU45E, the most fresh bios v4.0, just been flashed (07/23/2009).

Well, I have a trouble with password on boot. I need to set password, which should be required _only_ to enter the "BIOS SETUP". When I set up the Supervisor Password (User is clear) I assume that I should be asked for password to enter or manage the BIOS SETUP, but it always requires me to give the password. To boot, to boot from other source (F12) and to enter the SETUP.

In AWARD bios there is an option called "Password on boot: enabled/disabled". But in Phoenix I cannot find such one. In "Security" section within "BIOS SETUP" there is an option to set a "Supervisor, User or HDD" password. I have already tried every combination, none is suitable for me.

What I would like to achieve is:

I would like to be asked to give a password only when I enter the SETUP or when I try to boot from other sourde (F12 pressed). When I only boot the system during regular poweron I don't need to give the password.

Could you please help me?

Answer:Satellite U400-150 - Supervisor password always required, even to boot up

That is strange. My notebook has a Phoenix BIOS and after setting up the Supervisor Password, it only asks for the Password when entering the BIOS.

Have you tried setting the Supervisor password in Windows using the Toshiba Assist/Password tool?

Hello,

I own a Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7E and a retail license for Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit (with SP1) installed on it.

Before installing Vista, I upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version available on the Toshiba site (http://it.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/vista_drivers.jsp?service=IT).
BIOS version is now 2.20-WIN32

After the successful installation of the operating system, I started installing the various drivers and utilities downloading them from the Toshiba site.

When I try to install the "Supervisor Password Utility" the setup fails showing a message box which says "The serial number is invalid".
Same problem with another setup: "Flash Cards Support Utility"

Does anybody know how to solve this problem and which serial number is invalid?

Thanx in advance,

In Secure you should see the Supervisor Password Utility.

The Remote Control Manager improves the support for a remote control on your computer.
I?m not sure if you could access this application but if yes then you should check it in control panel.

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

Lets start off with this statement, so I don't get a load of replies on how to clear the BIOS PASSWORD. This is the SUPERVISOR Password which is set via the "Toshiba Supervisor Password Utility". So removing the CMOS battery/using the jumpers under the memory won't work in this case.

I have a couple of P755 and A665 laptops that I've repaired, however they have the SUPERVISOR password enabled with various degrees of security enabled in the BIOS.

After hours of google searching and pouring over the internet and looking at schematics for the Compal LA-6061p and LA-6062p motherboards (which are near identical in layout) it appears that there is no "master password" for the SUPERVISOR Password. It would appear that the password is stored in the EEPROM chip which is where I'm unsure which chip it is on the Motherboard for these laptop series.

From what I gather you can do the "not so safe" thing of shorting out the EEPROM chip during boot cycle. Failing that I can simply replace EEPROM chip, if I know which chip to replace, off of a donor motherboard.

So does anyone know a way to get past the Supervisor Password either by jumper points on the motherboard, shorting the EEPROM chip or simply the chip location on the MB?

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 11e 20DA series laptop.  I know my supervisor password.  The issue is that I can't make any changes in my BIOS.  It ALLLL started when I updated my BIOS with the latest version.  I selected my laptop and model and version from the Lenovo website, selected windows 10 and BIOS, and downloaded the update utility.  It did its thing.  And now I cant make any changes in the BIOS. You may need to contact Lenovo Support directly if it is not prompting for a password, and yet also not letting you into the BIOS as the result of one of their BIOS updates.   They may take care of it for you, but unfortunatelly just removing the CMOS battery will not help. From page 34 of the hardware maintenance manual linked below: Supervisor passwordA supervisor password protects the system information stored in the ThinkPad Setup. Hi All, how have u been.

It's been 2 months I have bought the laptop Satellite A300-1PH. Yesterday, first time I tried to see my system BIOS by pressing F2, but it required Password to enter onto BIOS but I never put the password as I am very first time opening it.

Can anybody tell me what is the exact problem?

Answer:Satellite A300-1PH - Why I have to enter a BIOS password?

Maybe the shop who sold you the laptop put a Password on the BIOS?

Give them a call and ask if they put BIOS passwords on their laptops.

If they say no, then you should send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center. There is a list of ASP's on the Toshiba website in the support section.

hi,

i haven?t used my toshiba Satellite P300-1AO for more than half a year since I am having a new laptop.
Now I need to grab some data from the satellite but I can?t coz I forgot my user password.

And I am probably too dumb to reset is, because after inserting both an empty CD and after connecting a USB Stick the computer says that CD/ USB Stick can?t be used for resetting the password. What am I doing wrong?

I need the data from that thing and the more I am waiting the more I am getting nuts...

Can anybody please help me?

Thanks in advance,
Timo

Answer:Satellite P300-1AO - Can't enter my user profile - forgot password

Timo if you can obtain ?2,5? AluminumSATA HDD Enclosure? connect HDD from your P300 to another PC as external device. On this way you will be able to have full access to all saved data.

After doing this put the HDD back and install original recovery image or Win7 32bit. It works perfectly on P300.

Answer:Satellite C850D problem blue screen "Enter password"

Hmmm?. Looks like a BIOS password.

Could it be possible that another user/person set it on your notebook?

However, I have no idea why this appears but as far as I know the unknown BIOS password can be reset only by an authorized service provider in your country.

Hello there

So I'm experiencing strange BitLocker behaviour. I have this PC at work. Clean Windows 8 x64 installation, 3 HDD (AHCI), no SSD.

After I set up BitLocker to encrypt "C" partition, it gave me pop-up window, that I should restart PC to test the BitLocker loader. So I clicked Yes. And after few seconds I got this:

JPG IMAGE - http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/f1/f2/22871d1370880908t-very-strange-bitlocker-enter-password-startup-screen-5jkippr.jpg

Mind, I'm still ABLE TO type password (i can't see sh** though), after I hit enter Windows IS booting, but it's really weird to see above picture instead of:

My GFX is OK, I tested it with games, benchmarks etc.
BitLocker simply cannot, for whatever reason, use my video card properly and displays those weird lines. After all - it hasn't loaded the whole Windows yet. Than again, it IS a bit strange, as Windows installers tend to work fine.

Any thoughts people?

Kind Regards

Bart

Dear technical support,

I would like to ask you for some help. I have got a Toshiba Tecra M5 notebook and 4 years ago when I install it for the first time, I was ask for "supervisor password". I entered my private password and everything was fine. Now I would like change my internal HDD. After the HDD upgrade I was ask for the supervisor password in a black screen directly after pressing the power button. The problem is that the suppervisor password was entered in windows mode using some special czech characters "????" (the password is containing these characters). The notebook is asking me for the supervisor password using a "dos" like intrface - black screen and blinking cursor and I'm not able to enter these czech characters. Can you help me what to do? I'm not able to work with my notebook.

T60 (1951-CTO)This may be a silly question, if it is I apologise.I've read on these forums that if I change my CMOS battery (and it's inevitable that one day it will run down so I will have to do this) my Supervisor Password will be automatically enabled.I've never set a Supervisor Password, and the bios tells me it's disabled, but my T60 is a refurb, so I have no way of knowing whether it has had one set before. So should I enable Supervisor Password, set it, then disable it, on the basis that one day I will need to know it?Or should I leave it be on the basis that if one was previously entered, enabling it will lock me out of the bios as I don't know it.To sum up: if I enable Supervisor Password, will it always give me the chance to enter a new one?

Hello, I have set a supervisor and a power-on password on my T500. However, I do not find a way to enter the BIOS using the supervisor password. After pressing F1 I am again asked for the power-on password, the icon is the same and entering the supervisor password is not accepted. Answer:Set a supervisor password

It's not possible to set a password.
If it was, then malware could set an unknown password and brick your system.
So, the only way to set a password is by manually going into BIOS Setup.  Then you can change the password by script.

If you set a password for the Content Advisor and can't remember it,
the following steps will help you remove it:

Go to H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Policies/Ratings
Delete the entry called Key

you can't reset the password without knowing the password first. Sorry we can't tell you the procedure even if we know it (which we don't), as it is against the forum rule. If you want Lenovo to reset the password, they just replace the motherboard, which is going to cost more than what your laptop is worth.

I am trying to flash BIOS updates as a part of my Image depoyment using MDT2012. I have created a task sequence to update the BIOS using winuptp.exe -s, however, it prompts for the Supervisor password. is there a switch that allows me to specify the supervisor password int the command line?

Answer:Supervisor Password with WINUPTP.exe

Normally WINUPTP.exe does not prompt for supervisor password.

I am thinking you must have changed the BIOS setting "Flash BIOS Updating by End-Users" (in the security menu).  The default is Enabled, but did you change it to Disabled?  If so then this explains why you are seeing the prompt for supervisor password when updating BIOS.

WINUPTP.exe does not have any method to accept the supervisor password on the command line unfortunately.  You will probably need to enable that BIOS setting, reboot, and then update the BIOS.  Then you can change the BIOS setting back to disabled if you want.

To change the BIOS setting, you can use WMI as described here:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-68488

Use the sample script "SetConfigPassword.vbs" to change the "BIOSUpdateByEndUsers" setting to "Enable"

When trying to choose (with F12) a different boot device than 1st harddrive (e.g. CD/DVD, USB-Stick, SD-Card), the system starts only form the built in harddisk. When trying to enter the BIOS (with ESC followed by F1) one can see just a very small selection just of the 1st BIOS page.

All further details (e.g. Boot Priority/Sequence) are not accessible. There is NOT set a User password and/or a HDD password.
When pressing the INS key before switching on the notebook, it asks for a supervisor Password. Someone has obviously set it and I don't have it. With the normal Toshiba Utilities (e.g. "Assist") it's not possible to remove it, also the LPT-Port connector or the Boot diskette (1st 5 Bytes of 2nd sector modified) doesn't help.

What can resolve this problem.

how can i remove my supervisor password from my computer?

Answer:remove supervisor password

It depends, obviously, upon the make and model. But, generally, you just need to logon with the current password and then you will have the option to change or (sometimes) remove it. It's better to set a new password that you can remember rather than removing the password, else anyone can mess about with your computer.Of course this relies upon you knowing the current supervisor passord. But that's the whole point of passwords, isn't it? They are there to stop unauthorised people from messing with equipment.

Hello guys, I'm trying to remove our supervisor password from our computers using the WMI-interface (described here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-68488). It works fine when trying to change the password using the provided script, but the syntax doesn't allow me to enter "nothing" as a password. Is there some way I can disable the supervisor password-option using WMI? I noticed that there's a vbs-script for loading default settings included in the package but that doesn't work with a password protected BIOS. Any tips or ideas? Thanks in advance,Johan

Answer:Removing Supervisor Password via WMI?

Attached is a script to do what you request.  I made this by modifying SetSupervisorPassword.vbs (which is inside the zip file at the URL you linked) to change the current password to <blank> which disables the supervisor password feature.

You can compare SetSupervisorPassword.vbs to this new script to see exactly what I did.

Hope this helps.

PS - loading default settings doesn't reset or disable BIOS passwords.

I sometimes use 3G and have a SIMcard inserted. I would like the computer to startup with only WiFi so I don't have to turn it off every time I start the computer. It's controlled with FN+F8 but does'nt remember the last settings. I'm using Windows XP.

Does anyone know if it's possible to set it to only start the Wifi? I would rather not disable the 3G card.
And does anyone know if it's sending out mobile signals when on but not connected?

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro S300-10O - Can it be set to startup without 3G?

Hi

I?m not sure if this is possible but if yes then you should be able to control it using the buttons FN+F8.
Try to use this combination several times unit only the wireless LAN would be selected.

Cheers

Hi,
I have this netbook for two years now and I need to add more RAM memory, it has 2 GB and is capable to have up to 8 GB.
I went to two local stores to buy a memory stick, but they are not able to find my netbook in their providers, so they have no idea which memory modules could go ok with my pc. I know the RAM module installed is a DDR2 at 800MHz. So, any ram module with these specifications should work fine?
Another question is if my computer is able to read up to 8 GB or I have to upgrade the BIOS (I did not updated, so I have the one pre-installed).
Thanks for your answer and sorry for my english!
Cheers!

Answer:RAM upgrade for Satellite Pro S300-11Y

Hi manelfera,

The notebook has Intel GM45 chipset and this chipset supports up to 8GB memory. That means you can install 4GB module in both memory slots. As you already wrote DDR2 800MHz is the correct specification.

Theoretically every module with this specification will work but I would recommend buying high quality modules from Kingston for example. I have good experience with this brand :)

BIOS update is not necessary for RAM upgrade so you can keep the current version.
