Left mouse button not working Portege R930-1D0

Question: Left mouse button not working Portege R930-1D0

The left mouse button has suddenly stopped working on my touchpad. I tried to restart including taking the battery out but this didn't help.

I tried to uninstall the driver (called Synaptics Ps/2 touchpad port on my control panel). It then asked me if I wanted to uninstall the software. I clicked yes.

After this, the driver now changed to being called just PS/2 touchpad port but there is still an option to uninstall available.

I tried to uninstall again but nothing happens. I tired to download new driver software for Toshiba touchpad from the website, but it is failing to download.

I am able to use an external mouse normally but would really like to get my touchpad working normally again.

Can someone please advise on what might be causing this problem and how to fix it?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

Brand new R930 (PT330A) and a minor but annoying thing ... the little button above the touch pad and below the space bar for Touch Pad On/Off does not work. I cannot find any configuration options for this anywhere. Fn-F9 works fine.

No big deal but I like things to work! And this button would be handy for a quick switch.

Thanks,
Mark

Answer:Portege R930 - Touch Pad On/Off Button is not working

Can you use Toshiba buttons? I think you should have eco button and presentation button on this machine.

Check please if you can enable/disable these buttons in HWsetup tool.
I don?t have Win8 machine but I think all these buttons can be enabled/disabled.

Please check this and send some feedback.

Hi

The power button on my R930 has become lodged down in its opening so that I can no longer use it to turn the computer on and off (I have been just putting my computer to sleep). I assume this may be a simple mechanical fix, but am currently in a place where I do not have access to any professional help. Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Answer:Portege R930 - Power button stuck

Sounds like the plastics or switch is broken.

Hi

Do you use original preinstalled Win7 that you got with your machine?
Have you tested it with different USB devices?

Try to reinstall Intel chipset utility from Toshiba download page. You can download it here .

My little brother was using the computer last night and said that everything froze up for a bit and he could not click on anything. When I rebooted, it said "Active Desktop Recovery" on the screen as part of the wall paper saying it was disabled. It had instructions to turn it back on and there was a button to click for me to restore it. But, I could not click on it. The right-click works just fine. I figured out how to switch primary control to the right button on the mouse, so I could get around while fixing it. Unfortunately, now that I can use right click, the restore active desktop button is gone. It disappeared after a reboot. I have run McAfee, Panda Active Scan, Spybot, Ad-Aware and Registry Mechanic. There were a few infected files and spyware and I removed them. The problem still exists. I have uninstalled the mouse driver and let the computer auto-install the driver on reboot. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, then please help me.

I have just installed new hard drive and now the left track point and ultranav left mouse does not work. If I go to mouse>ultranav> settings> buttons> left click  and select jump to start it works until standby power off or logon screen. So again it works until any of the above and then I need a usb mouse to re enable the left mouse control. I do not believe it is a hardware issue as all 3 left click methods will work until standby etc. i have re-installed latest drivers and am now considering a reinstall of Windows XP. Any suggestions???  R40 2723

My 7 year old son was playing on Roblox (internet) and all of the sudden the mouse stopped working. "He didn't do anything" he says but trying to get the left mouse button to work is impossible. I have gone into the control panel and changed the settings so that the right button acts like the left, but this still isn't good because now I don't have a right button feature anymore. I try to change it back and then the left doesn't work at all.

I did a system restore to this morning and the problem is still there. There are no new add ins in internet explorer from today either.

HELP!!

I'm not a computer person, so I apologize in advance if I get terms wrong. All information regarding specifications are from the HP Support Assistant.  I have an HP Pavilion G6 Notebook (Product number A4A93UA#ABA)I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit)My microprocessor (if this matters) is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @2.40GHzI have 4GB of system memoryThe pointing device is Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPadHopefully I didn't miss anything important. I'm having a few problems, mainly the left mouse button isn't working at all. I've searched and searched for an answer but I can't seem to find one. The touchpad itself is working perfectly. I can double tap to click, tap and drag to highlight, etc. The right mouse button is working fine as well. It brings up a menu everytime like it's supposed to. The left button on the other hand, isn't working at all. I've had the computer for about 6 months, so my warranty is still in tact. I was just hoping to find a simple fix before I go through the process of sending it back to HP or Best Buy. At first, the left button seemed laggy. It would work sometimes, and not others. Then it stopped completely (all within a time frame of a few days) This happened about a month ago. Since then, I've been searching for answers, and just dealing with it. even though it's super annoying!  Another thing I've noticed is that around the time that the mouse button itself has stopped working, my start menu was cleared out entirely.... Answer:HP Laptop left mouse button not working

I want to say it is a hardware issue but the thing about part of the menus disappearing makes me wonder if it is a virus. I would try a Windows preboot environment CD like Hiren's and see if the mouse works with different software. But that is a longshot and the likely answer is that the mouse circuit board is bad. The only other thing you could try is a factory restore.

The left mouse button on my son'r desktop has bizarely stopped working. Right button is fine and the mose works fine in every other response except the left click which does nothing.
I have tried two other mouses (mice !) from around the house and all of them have no left click so it seems to be a software problem somewhere.
I went into Control Panel and reversed the left/right click functionality and now the right button DOES work perfectly as the left button should but I don't really want to leave it that way.
All are optical devices and the only change he has made recently is replacing his keyboard which had suddenly died.
Any ideas ?

Answer:Left mouse button has stopped working !

Some things to try:-
Go into mouse properties - is click lock checked? If so, uncheck it. If not check it to see what happens.
Check in Device Manager to see that there are not two conflicting mouse drivers installed for some reason.
Update mouse driver.
Take the batteries out of the mouse for a while and then replace them.

I have an old IBM Thinkpad T42, worked great for ages. Last week the left mouse button below the touchpad stopped working. The right button still works, the touchpad still works, the nub and mouse buttons above the touchpad work, but the left buttong below the touchpad doesn't register.I took the laptop apart, removed the palmrest assembly, cleaned it up, took a look at the button and contacts, everything looked perfect.I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, no diceI removed it from device manage and let windows redetect it, still not working.I tried system Restore for a day when it was working, still not working.I checked the connections and they are all good, I did an sfc /scannow to make sure there were no corrupted system files, ran spybot and malwarebytes, all turned up nothing. So I went on eBay and plopped down $13 on a replacement palmrest. I swapped out the hardware, and it STILL doesn't work.At this point I am thinking it is some other hardware failure. I downloaded a VB program that detects any mouse click through API call, and the lower left mouse button does not trigger the API call at all, even though I replaced the hardware. The only reason I think it may be a software/OS issues is several months ago the laptop spontaneously developed this strange issue where it acted like the left click was always depressed, so the mouse was always in a "text select" mode, no matter how many times I rebooted the OS always thought a left click was being held down, even though ... Answer:Left mouse button under touchpad not working

I would boot Linux from a CD/DVD (perhaps Mint or Ubuntu) and see if the buttons work. If it doesn't and you have already replaced the complete palm rest with a good one, either the jack it plugs into on the motherboard has an issue or some part of the circuit on the motherboard that supports that circuit might be at fault. I just purchased a used replacement T41 motherboard on eBay for less than $25. Plenty more out there if you are handy with a screwdriver and download the HMM PDF file.

I normally press my left mouse button lightly when using it, but I think it broke as of today. I have to press much harder than usual for it to work which is very hard to get use to, especially when I'm online gaming and I end up dying or something due to me not pressing the left mouse button hard enough. I tried unplugging and replugging it back in, and tried it out with slower and faster mouse settings, but it hasn't made a difference.

I'm not quite sure what kind of mouse I have but under the mouse there's a tag that labels it as: Mouse-in-a-box Optical Pro. It's not a wireless and I've had it for a long time.

I kind've had this problem for a while, except it wasn't as bad. The only real problem I've had up until now was that I've never really been able to hold the left button down to highlight sentence or something.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Hey guys - this is a weird one. Left click the mouse to open something and nothing happens. Well, nothing happens that's supposed to, is safe to say!For example - in OUTLOOK - you move the mouse onto "addresses," it "lights up," i.e. highlights... then you click the mouse (left), the highlight comes off, un-highlights itself. Another example, in IExplorer -- click on the DOWN arrow in the address line -- this should expose/make visible the most recently visited sites in a drop down box.... but, you click on the arrow - sites appear in the dropped window for LESS THAN A SECOND, then go away!!! Another example, I hit "FILE" then "SAVE AS" to save a document on my desktop, left click the down arrow at the "SAVE IN" area, it QUICKLY opens all of the available areas to save the file in I would normally see, but they disappear as fast as they appear! With IE minimized, left click on it, it doesn't open. Basically... left click of the mouse isn't performing as advertised. Heck --- even to EDIT this post... I had to RIGHT CLICK on the edit button!!!It seems the only way to open something is to RIGHT click, then select OPEN... Ran EWIDO - cleaned/deleted the infected 86 filesRan AVG - ditto what happened on Ewido. 86 infections, cleaned and deleted... Here's the latest HJT log... Answer:Left Button On Mouse Not Working As Advertised...

Hi,This isn't a malware related issue here though... It rather looks like the left-button just hangs when you click it - too sensitive, maybe dirt under it - whatever. Can you try another mouse and look if you are having the same issue. There's nothing suspicious in your Hijackthislog. One note though..Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.Updating Java:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".Click the "Download" button to the right.Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".The page will refresh.Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the icon next to it.Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Answer:Re: Left mouse button is not working properly on Satellite L

What do you mean by 'not working properly'? Is the button broken? Or not clicking? Or intermittently clicking by itself?

Have you checked for excess dust in the heatsink? What temperature is the CPU and GPU reaching?

Also, what is the model of your notebook?

My problems are very similar to those in this thread, to which I didn't see any resolution. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/y580-touchpad-not-working/m-p/898175/highli...Anyway, I've had my Y580 for...about 12 hours now, and right out of the box the left mouse button isn't working. About 10% of the time, if you press really hard, it will work, but that's not exactly working condition.  I'm guessing this means the palmrest itself needs to be repalced, so I'm wondering how I can go about getting warranty service WITHOUT calling the phone number. Right now I have larangytis and can't talk on the phone. Moreover, there must be some other options already for the deaf/hard at hearing.Anyway, could someone please help me out with this? Also, if possible, I think this kind of information really needs to be put on the support page itself. Again, there are people who will *never* be able to call you guys on the phone. That's a problem that needs to be accomidated!

Answer:Y580 Touchpad / left mouse button not working

Well, this hasn't gotten me anywhere, so I had a friend talk to the warranty department for me on speakerphone. Lenovo is taking care of everything now, but seriously...you NEED an option for people who for some reason can't talk, or are deaf/hard at hearing. I even asked at the end of the call if there was such an option, and the rep said there wasn't. Lenovo already has 24/hr sales reps available via chat...why not have that same technology for the warranty department? Definitley unfair to someone who is permanently hearing impared or such.

Hi I have a SL410 and the left mouse button on the touch pad does not work, so I'm not able to select items on the screen. ALso, the tapping on the touchpad doesn't work either. SO the only way to use the laptop is to plug in an external mouse.  The right mouse button works. However, if I change the left to right and right to left on the mouse functions in the control panel, then both buttons don't work. I've looked at the  mouse functions in the control panel and everything is selected - ie tapping on the touchpad, left mouse button enabled etc. Can someone help me please? Thanks

I'm having a problem with getting the mouse wheel button to work correctly in 8.1

I've switched to left handed use to alleviate shoulder pain.

Before this I had the mouse and keyboard center installed. I use a cheap USB keyboard and a microsoft USB optical wheel mouse. Configured for the right hand, everything works correctly. The right button is the normal select, the right is context and I configured the wheel button to double click.

When I switch to left hand I lose the wheel button double click. The select / context buttons are properly working, but when I click the wheel it appears to be the same as a context button click. I thought maybe the settings got messed up when I switched the buttons so I tried setting the wheel button to another function (open charms in this case). That works. Switched the wheel button back to double click and it goes back to open context menu.

I uninstalled and re-installed the mouse and keyboard center. That made no difference. Seems like a bug here. Any suggestions? Anyone else run in to this or solve it?

On, this is on a new (mid-april) HP laptop so there is a touchpad that I almost never use because I generally have the mouse, keyboard, and external monitor attached with the lid closed.

Answer:Mouse Wheel Button not Working for Left Handed Use

I am having exactly the same problem. Really annoying. Spent a couple of hours trying to debug this problem on the two different Microsoft mouse . You would think they would at least test their own products on Windows 8.1. BTW this is not a problem on either Windows 7 or Windows XP with the same mouse.

I am running Windows 10 (Creators Update) and have been doing so for quite a while on a laptop. Recently, whilst playing a game, I was clicking the touchpads left hand button (mouse1) rapidly until suddenly it stopped working completely.

In addition, tapping to activate mouse 1 is also not working with the touchpad. Right clicking is still working and mouses are also working properly.

When I looked to see what the touchpad was doing (and if any of the buttons were activated) I noticed that it says the left side button is always being clicked and held (even though I'm not pressing nor holding it)?

Is there some way of fixing this or has the hardware completely broke?

I don't understand what the problem is. My left mouse button is not working. If I put a slight bit of pressure on the panel below the space button then the left mouse button works.

What should I do? It feels like a hardware problem, since I bought the laptop in November my laptop is still covered under warranty.

Answer:Satellite P750-136 - left mouse button is not working

What you can do is to check touchpad settings and be sure everything is OK.
I don?t know if you have noticed this since day 1 but if you feel it is hardware problem I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider as soon as possible. Warranty will cover all repair costs.

Its a Logitech wireless optical mouse.

I've pushed the reset button on the bottom, tried restarting my computer and tried using the troubleshooting feature that came with the mouse itself.

Starting today, the left button stopped working. The right button works fine. The batteries are new. The scroll wheel works fine. The pointer works fine.

I tried it again and suddenly it was working....then the next time I went to click on something, it stopped again. I just got it for christmas....what could be wrong? The only thing I can possibly think of is that my 18 month old had it in his hand last week banging on the keyboard with it. Maybe he broke it a little bit and thats why its giving me trouble now?

Unless anyone knows what I can do to try and get it working then I think i'll have to buy a new one.

So help me if you can. If not, no worries...I still have the mouse that came with my computer and I can get along with that until i get a new one.

Answer:Logitech wireless mouse...left button stops working

I suspect you'll be buying a new one. It's probably the switch in the mouse, I've had those switches go on mice a number of times. Let's see, I've had 4-5 of them go in 50,000 posts, so you were due for a failure with 16,000!

Any ideas how to trouble shoot this? Thanks.

Answer:New Mouse Left Click Button Stops Working After 1-2 Minutes

I've had 3 Microsoft mice fail in a very short time.
You can assign another button to act as left click (use Microsoft mouse and keyboard center) or you can return to Newegg (if still under warranty) or simply call Microsoft and get an RMA- that's your best bet.

Hello ive bought a Connect IT TOMCAT mouse but the left mouse button doesnt work sometimes.
Basically what happens is that the first DPI setting light stops working (other 2 work fine) and because of that my left mouse button doesnt work as well (if i have DPI disabled when the first DPI light doesnt work then the LMB still doesnt work).
I have tried reinstalling USB and mouse drivers and putting the mouse in a different USB port but it still doesnt work. My other mouse works just fine in the same USB port btw.
The mouse is new so i dont know why it doesnt work how its supposed to. If you know how to fix this problem please comment down below thank you.

Hi folks - just getting started here and really need some help. I bought a refurbished PC (Dell) in May and have been having problems with Windows 10 functionality since. Here are two issues I would love to get an answer for:
1. Using the Shift + Left Mouse button ALWAYS selected a large group of text in Windows XP. Place the selection point at the start of the text and then use Shift + Left Mouse button and presto: large group of text is selected. It does not work for me in Windows 10. I have to use the Left Mouse drag format and its a real drag. Is there a dialog box I can access where I can change a default setting so that it does work?
2. Folders - I cannot get them to remember their last setting. Open up one folder and the next one you open is in the same size and almost the same position as the last one opened. Close the folder and it doesn't remember its position and size.
I guess I am asking the obvious but ... why does Microsoft always tend to screw things up? Why take away (by default) the two of the things that we have gotten so used to in Windows?
My other pet peeve is the file overwrite confirmation dialog showing up BEHIND folders and programs on the desktop.
I mean, who was beta testing this OS and why wasnt this vehemently contested before the OS was released? I know that thousands of people beta tested this product. Was MS turning a deaf ear to their comments or did folks just accept these changes?
Hope you can help me out ....

Man this feels weird. I'm usually the one giving help, not asking for it lol.

Computer:

HP Pavilion dv7
Win7 Professional x64

This problem started after I left my computer on sleep for a couple hours. When I woke it up, the touchpad taps and left mouse button clicks brought up the right-click context menu and nothing on the taskbar responded to the cursor hovering over it. Also for some reason pressing the Windows key on the keyboard wouldn't bring up the Start menu. The only way I've found to correct this is to plug in a USB mouse and press the right MB on it. I also was able to fix it one time by uninstalling the Synaptics drivers and letting Windows restart and find the mouse, but after trying to reinstall the Synaptics drivers then uninstalling them again after the problem reappeared this method no longer works. In either case left click functionality is restored but there is no right click functionality period on the touchpad/buttons. However the USB mouse that I plug in works normally. Also after left click is restored, everything on the taskbar and elsewhere responds as it should with the exception of not being able to right click on anything (which sucks in W7). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics drivers to see if that would fix it but after reinstalling them and restarting, the problem came back. Another thing I've noticed is that even with the Synaptics drivers installed the vertical scroll area doesn't respond.... Read more

Hello everyone,

For the second time within the past two weeks I've had quite an annoying problem regarding my left mouse button on my synaptics pointing device, all of a sudden the left mouse button will stop working. The right mouse button and the rest of the touchpad will work apart from being able to click the LMB function. I've had this happen once before quite a few months ago but thought nothing of it at the time. This occurs for around half a minute to sometimes a minute before returning to normal and being able to use the LMB. I am using a Lenovo Z580 if that is any help to anyone.

I have tried searching around the internet for any information regarding this problem but I have not been able to find any solution or information connected to my issue.

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Left Mouse Button - Stops working from time to time.

Hello LO mate when you click the button do you hear an audible click from inside the mouse it could be something as simple as a stuck micro switch.

Also if it is a wired one check the USB contacts too - in the plug and socket. You can clean them gently with a strip (about 5 mm with the corners rounded off) of old credit card with some lint free cloth around the end of it moistened very lightly with some alcohol

By the way just how old is the mouse?

Hey all,

I just installed Windows 7 earlier today. The install went fine, until right near the end. I had to click 'next' to a question, which I had already done a few times, but this time the tab was not responding. I tried again and again, then finally just hovered over the tab and pressed enter on my keyboard which did the trick.

Now that the OS is up and running, everything is working fine but I just have one problem. My left mouse button is doubling up as a 'back' button. So if I am in a folder and want to double click a new folder, or even if I just left click on empty space, it will take me backwards one folder. A nightmare in internet explorer aswell.

For the time being Ive switched the two buttons around, so I have an action button, but no right click (on the left mouse button now) anymore.

Ive tried installing the original drivers, and in compatibility for Vista, but nothing seems to fix the problem. Anybody have any suggestions? Id be real grateful to hear them

Cheers,

Oh and the mouse is a Logitech LX7 wireless.

Thanks,
Mikes

Hi,
i use a R903 with a High-speed Port Replicator II under Windows 7 Prof. Today, the port replicator did not mechanically release the pc. I can push the button on hte replicator so that the button light extinguishes, or use the task bar and eject the replicator: no effect. The port replicator does not release the machine.

Before sending both the pc and the port replicator to a Toshiba service and pay for a reparation I want to know if there could be any program malfunction .

Question: Is there a Toshiba program that controls the docking and undocking of the port replicator ?

Any other idea for getting the pc released ?

After restoring my R930 to W7, using the recovery DVDs, and upgrading to W10 I ended up with the following four partitions (sorry for clumsy translations from Swedish):

- Recovery partition 1,49 GB
- Windows (C 902,82 GB NFTS
- “Sleep” partition 16,00 GB
- Partition 11,22 GB

Why so many? Can I use the Recovery partition to recover the W10 (and should I back up this?)?
The last two - do I need them or can I take these away??

Thanks for your insight and help,

Dear Ajo,

yes, either you can roll back your OS by roll back option in control panel or you can use your recovery disk for downgrade.

My Portege R930 (PT331E - i7) is getting quite warm nowadays, earlier it was very silent, now the fan is at 70% most of the time.

I have opened the bottom lid and checked the cooling paste on top of the processor - seemed quite dry.

Should I change the paste? I have cleaned the fan.
What can I do else?

Thanks

Hi

If you have already disassembled your notebook and cleaned cooling vents and cooling grill you can also change the grease if you know how to do this. I mean, why not. Notebook is already opened.

Usually after cooling system cleaning notebook should work much quieter. Few years ago I?ve done this on my machine. I found so many dust inside that has ?blocked? air circulation.

How to make that in W8.1?

Answer:Portege R930-14C - Win8.1 and GPS connection

Hi

In Windows 8.1 this function is called ?Location tracking?.

You have to navigate to PC settings -> Privacy -> Location
Here you have to switch on the options:
- Let apps use my location

In this case single apps would be able to access the location (GPS) data.

I want to use the Ericsson wireless broadband modem in my R 930-1C8 and after lot of searching on the internet - the manuel does not mention the SIM card slot at all - I found the place where to put it in after retreaving the battery.
I then started the Toshiba Wireless Manager to configure the card but it says : No SIM card.

Two questions:
Which is the correct way to insert: the SIM card: with the contacts turned up or turned down ?
Do I have to activate the SIM card before inserting ?

Can this be the reason why the wireless manager does not see the card ?

The explications of my provider, Orange France, of the SIM card which they call multi-sim card, are far from clear. The card I inserted and which does not work is a second SIM card that goes with my main account and is to be used for data traffic, such as for tablets or for pcs. And they warn you once you activate the SIM card the previous card stops running. But they don't say which card they mean; the primary one for the telephone (speech traffic), or the secondary one, for the data traffic.

Any ideas here ?
Thanks

Hi,

It is running Windows 8.1 Pro, it came with no discs etc. It does not appear to have any of the bundled software it would have come with out of the box. Please excuse my lack of knowledge but is there anyway I can restore this or download it please.

Many thanks

According notebook specification this notebook model was delivered with preinstalled WIN7 64BIT PRO & WIN8 64BIT PRO DVD.

I am sure its something simple I am missing.

Hello,

I'm trying to fix an issue with this laptop (R930-157)

When i press the left arrow key, it prints a 6 on screen (notepad)
When i press the spacebar, it prints a / on screen, when disabling numpad the spacebar prints a +
CTRL + spacebar does print a normal space

This does not happen with an external keyboard, only the build in one.
I've tried disabling the touchpad, does not work

Issue reproduced on Windows 10 and Windows 7

Even in the bios the keyboard bahaves strange, the up arrow goes to exit (normal escape)

Tried updating drivers (first uninstalled, rebooted, installed new ones)

First we though it was about the keyboard, so we bought a new keyboard and replace the old one, same issue.
Any tips / suggestions / fixes ?

Answer:Portege R930: cannot use FN keys running Win XP

Hi

Fn buttons are controlled by special Toshiba tools and this depends on the running system.

Using Win XP you have to install the Common Modules and this needs to be done at first. The common modules is an essential component of the Windows systems.
It is required to make other original TOSHIBA programs work properly.

Check this:
[Common Module v6.07.03 Win XP|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=4&selSeries=151&selProduct=7565&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=10&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=1&ID=83752&OSI D=10&driverLanguage=42]

To get other FN buttons working (i.e switching the display output) you need to install the Hotkey Utilities for Display Devices
[Hotkey Utilities for Display Devices v1.0.2.5 for Win XP|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=4&selSeries=151&selProduct=7565&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=10&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=83758&OSI D=10&driverLanguage=42]

Hi Adrian

I don?t know exactly how old is the unit but it is possible that the contact under the button don?t work properly any more. Like you know the unit should be open and mouse checked. I don?t believe that you can do it on your own because it is a complicated procedure and it must be done in a right order.

The best solution for you is to contact service partner in your country.

The non-Toshiba tools and software which are part of the Toshiba preinstalled image cannot be downloaded separately. You can use such software only in connection with Toshiba image.
If you have installed your own clean system, you have to purchase such software.

Toshiba Portege R930-17L
S/N: 5D016093H
(If I search on Toshiba after SN I only find it in Toshiba - Ukraine)

Bought from "Sigmanet" online shop in Romania.

It has a sticker on the back side w/ Windows 8 Pro (small sticker without product key).
It arrived with Windows 8 install CD.
On it was preinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 (this notebook has the right to use Windows 8 and Windows 7)
Of course, the preinstalled OS was running slow and gave errors (McAfee AV preinstalled, a bunch of small apps, a.s.o.)

I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 (original CD) on clean partition.
I can't activate it with the following:
Product Key: XXXXX-YYYYY-ZZZZZ-XXXXX-YYYYY
Product ID: xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx
Error code: 0xc004e003

Now, I've spoken with Microsoft Romania, they tried to help me but they failed.
They told me that the license appears to be blocked from Toshiba, so they suggested me to contact them (Toshiba) for unblocking the license or for providing a new product key.

So, I've contacted the seller. They passed me to Toshiba authorised service in Romania which avoids to help me.

Now I'm stuck. What to do or whom to contact. Everything is so blurry ...

I appreciate any response you can give me. Thanks!

Answer:0xc004e003 error while activating Win 7 Pro on Portege R930-17L

> It has a sticker on the back side w/ Windows 8 Pro (small sticker without product key).
>It arrived with Windows 8 install CD.
>On it was preinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 (this notebook has the right to use Windows 8 and Windows 7)

Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled with Windows systems which are already activated.
The stickers you can find at the bottom of the units are OEM serial keys and such keys don?t work in connection with other different system. The OEM key belongs to the preinstalled image.

So in case you would use the Toshiba recovery disk and would install the Windows system using such disk, the serial key would not be necessary.

According to the Toshiba specification page:
http://www.toshiba.co.il/en/laptops/portege/r930/portege-r930-17l/ the notebook was preinstalled with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

This means that Win 7 Recovery DVD was not part of the package. Why?
?because the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator software was preinstalled on such notebook. The software allows you to create the Recovery DVD containing the Win 7 64bit Pro system and image which is activated.

Just wanted to briefly report of a successful SSD upgrade.

When I got my Portege R930 (PT331E, i7) two years ago, I changed the HD to a Samsung SSD 840 PRO 512GB (big improvement). Now this SSD is too small (photos!) and I wanted to increase the capacity to 1TB.

But instead of a new SATA, I decided to go for an mSATA + SATA adapter – I got the impression an mSATA unit would be more “future-proof” – next laptop upgrade for me would be a Portege Z, which use mSATA.

So I bought a Samsung SSD 850 EVO mSATA 1TB together with a Delock converter/adapter, made a clone with the Apricorn cable and software, switched the SSDs and everything works just fine (actually a little bit faster )! At first I tried to make the clone with Samsungs migration software but that didn?t work, maybe I didn?t use the right version.

So – now I have a much lager SSD that will live longer than my R930. Please note that I am not a computer expert – just a happy Toshiba user!! Thanks for a good forum with my good ideas!

My T61 got this problem a few months ago where the left mouse button got loose and would click and see-saw back and forth depending on which end of the button I pressed.  Very annoying.  I called into support, and they replaced the palm rest.  I was hoping that it was just a defective button, but the problem has recurred, and it'd be expensive to replace now that my warranty has expired, especially if this will become a regular servicing fee Does anyone know of any way to fix this (hopefully permanently)?  Has anyone even had this problem?  I can't find any details online, but with two units having this problem, I can't imagine I'm the only one.

Answer:Wobbly Left Mouse Button

Hi magicdanw, To be clear, are you talking about: the touch pad mouse button at the bottom, orthe track point mouse button between the keyboard and touch pad?I guess probably (1) since Lenovo replaced the palm rest before to fix the problem. In this case probably the easiest way to fix is to buy a replacement palm rest and replace it yourself. I don't know about cost, maybe others can help. If (2), those buttons are part of the keyboard. You can buy a replacement keyboard for ~$30 and replace it yourself. Look for an NMB keyboard if you do this :-) Instructions for replacing either the palm rest or keyboard (and many other things) are in the T61 "Hardware Maintenance Manual", available for download from the Lenovo support site. Maybe there's a cheaper fix for just the mouse button that's bothering you, I don't know. Good luck,Frank

Lately I seem to be having sensitivity issues with my mouse. The left button's ability to hold is off... some clicks act as rapid double clicks or just let go. I want to make sure this is a problem with the MOUSE and not Windows 7.

I've tried internal cleaning but the actual button is clipped together and the wheel prevents me from unclipping one side to clean inside. I've tried switching USB ports, no good.

When I'm on-line the left mouse button won't work, although it works fine when I'm off-line. When on-lin, in order to acces a link or open a file, I have to use the right button, and then select "open" from the menu. I also can't check boxes or select options in online forms... This just started happening recently, I've restored the system back as far as possible, but that didn't help. I've also had the hardware and software ,(ie The mouse) cleared, so those aren't the issue either. Maybe the registry?...

While surfing web sites, I often will select from lists (for example on cars.com, I can pick several different types of cars to look for). To do this, I USED to use the CTRL key to pick and choose several items from a list by holding down CTRL and clicking on the selection.

HOWEVER, now, my computer has decided that holding down CTRL and left-clicking the mouse opens up a brand-new browser window and does not select anything from the list.

I have a R930 that shipped with a 320GB Toshiba SED drive model MK3261SYG.
Do to the confidential nature of the existing data I need to wipe the drive to repurpose the system and understand that the drive has the capability to be "completely erased" by replacing the encyption key thereby removing any access to the existing information, any new data wriiten after the wipe will use a different key.

This capability is well documented by Toshiba, however I cannot find out how to actually do this type of "wipe". I understand that there are lots of "overwrite" wipe apps that I can use and have used in the past but the Toshiba WIPE" capability is what I'm interested in as it purportedly is much faster and logically (at least to me) a more "secure" approach.

The R930 BIOS ver is 6.50 and although there are settings in the Security tab to enable BIOS and HDD passwords that restict access to the drive there is nothing there that lets me perform a "wipe" (or at least that I can see). None of the Toshiba apps such as Security Assist, Password Utility etc. that ship with the Win 7 64 bit build seem to have this capability either.

I have searched the variousToshiba support sites and can't find any reference to any application that Toshiba makes available to allow a customer to perform this type of wipe. Answer:Portege R930 - Cyrpto Erase Self Encrypting Drive (SED)

Some new Toshiba HDDs supports the ?Toshiba Wipe Technology?.
The unique thing about these new drives is the fact that in certain circumstances, the data is automatically deleted from the hard disk.
For example, if the hard disk would be stolen and it is connected and installed in another system.

Toshiba calls the HDD "SED" - which stands for Self-Encrypting Drives.

I could find a info from Toshiba
http://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/press/2011_04/pr1301.htm

Furthermore the ?Wipe Technology? never work until customer activate it and once Wipe Technology has been activated, user cannot withdraw activation.
How to activate it?
You can do that by settings the HDD password.

Answer:Portege R930 - 4 critical events - Kernel power 41

Dont worry about the kernel power, it just means the BIOS is controlling the power instead of Windows.

If you can find out the BSOD STOP code and the System File that caused the crash, you can determine which driver needs updating or removing, or if its a hardware fault.

Hi,

I wanted to replace the 128GB hard drive in my portable PC. I bought a 256GB SSD and read the User Guide.
I didn't see anything about the disk replacement inside.
When I opened the PC, I discovered that there was a mSata card.
Is it possible to replace a mSata card with a SSD disk?
There is a small connector but I'm sure I will need to buy a new one (what kind of connector?).
More importantly there is no information in the User Guide about all this process.
Is there anybody having done that?

Regards.

Answer:Portege R930: replace mSata card with SSD disk

I think you need to get the drive cable replaced with a 2.5" cable.
If the drive cannot physically fit, you may need to get other parts replaced as well.

It may be a better idea returning the SSD and buy an mSATA SSD instead.

I have a a Portege R930. I am running a program that take 25-30% of the CPU for many hours. If I put the laptop into sleep mode, does the computation get suspended? If not, and it is still running, how does the CPU get cooled when the fan is turned off in sleep mode? Can the CPU overheat?

I *don't* want my many-hour program run to be interrupted by an overheating sensor. If I know that the program is suspended in sleep mode, I won't fear entering sleep mode. If not, then I will keep the laptop awake, and if I need to transport the laptop, I'll put it into hibernation.

Answer:Can CPU overheat if Portege R930 enters sleep mode?

The answer seems to be that the CPU can't over heat because programs are suspended: http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Port%C3...p/689961#M4014

I have Toshiba Portege R930-C086

my hard drive is broken , i lost all my data and Original windows 8
so i want to buy new hard drive , and i want to know how i got my windows 8 key back ?

i don't want to buy new windows 8 .

Answer:Portege R930-C086 - How to get Windows 8 serial key back?

Every notebook offered with preinstalled operating system has also preinstalled tool called ?Recovery media creator?. This tool can be used for creation of bootable DVD or USB recovery media. This recovery media can be used in case that HDD recovery installation procedure doesn't work anymore or if HDD fails, like in your case.

I presume you didn?t create this media, right?
Fact is that you can order this original recovery image but it is not for free.
More info you can get from Toshiba service provider in your country.

I don't know if you can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx but check it please.

This happened on occasion in XP also, but now on my new Laptop with Win7 I see it happening again. Every now and again for some reason I cannot select random files (in a file handler) by holding down the CRTL key and selecting desired files with the left mouse button.

Also sometimes the SHIFT key will not let me select the first and last files for a group selection.

And then again on another boot up they both work again until some unknown combination of events messes it up again.

Anybody know what does this ?

Answer:Shift and Ctrl with Mouse left button

What brand laptop? and are you using the touchpad, or a mouse.

If it is the touchpad see if there is a driver update from the laptop Mfg. Also try blowing out the keyboard with a can of air, you may have some food /crud under the keys.

Hi killer bee,

I would hazard a guess that it's a hardware issue. The best way to test is to either put a known good mouse on your system or try your mouse on a different system.

Those clicky-type buttons have a definite lifespan just like anything mechanical.

I also have a mouse with a wonky left button but I can't replace it because instead of having a scroll wheel, it has a toggle. Makes scrolling through long documents so much easier than having to roll, roll, roll the wheel.

on an L530, when i click and hold the left mouse button on the trackpoint while performing a "sweep" operation -- ie dragging out a rectangular area on the display -- the button doesn't stay held; it prematurely unclicks / releases before i lift my finger off the button.i had this problem with the original keyboard.  i called support, they quickly shipped a replacement keyboard, and almost as quickly the problem reoccurred.this is annoying, because i frequently perform mouse sweeps (almost exclusively in conjunction with "snipping tool" on win7).  invariably, i need to retry the sweep 2,3,4,5,6.... times before i'm successful at getting what i want.  and i'm pressing down on the button with significantly more force than should be required.this isn't a problem that develops over time; it's there from the get-go.i've phoned in to support again, and they're shipping me a 3rd keyboard.  sounds like a design flaw, since the same problem's shown up on 2 keyboards.  (progress has been made, however; on the original keyboard, F10 wasn't working reliably either; on the now-in-use 2nd keyboard, F10 works fine.)  hope i'm wrong about the chronic failure, and 3rd time's a charm...

Actually it's a Kensington trackball. Starting an hour or so ago, every time I click the left button, either the line I am viewing and everything above it (as in an email client or Windows Explorer) gets selected; or in a browser, an entire new window opens. I now have five copies of Foxfire open, just from navigating to this site!

My only clue is that awhile back I was holding something down; I forget whether it was left button, right button, or some key; while I decided what to do, and a dialog popped up saying did I want this behavior to have some effect, I do not recall what. I believe I clicked "Cancel". But ever after, I cannot use the left mouse button for its intended purpose. Nothing in Control Panel helps at all.

Has anyone seen this behavior? How can I fix it?

When I'm on-line, in order to open a link or file, I have to use the right mouse button and then select "open" from the menu to access the link or file. This just started happening recently. I also can't check boxes on forms on-line either. I have Windows 7 on-board, I've restored my system, but that didn't help. So many of my programs are from downloads, that I really hate to re-install Windows... This isn't the mouse, or the software as I've cleared both of these issues. Maybe registry?

I have in the last few days updated my Win 7 PC to IE9, also yesterday I downloaded Microsoft updates. Today I find that whereas the left mouse button single click will perform as normal in every other application,- when on this forum and some other forums, if I select a thread and left click on it will not open that thread. If I right click on the thread and choose "Open" it opens straight away. I have inserted new batteries and rebooted PC,I have also tried a different mouse.- and still the same scenario. Another PC with XP working alongside has no problems at all. IE9/Latest MS updates causing the problem? Any thoughts?

Answer:Lost left mouse button click

First thing I'd try is is use IE9 no addons- all programs, accessories, system tools. Then try compatibility mode if not working. If still not working it might be an update.

I can't use any keyboard keys and use the left mouse button simultaneously; there is about a 1 second delay after I stop pressing any keyboard keys until the left mouse button starts working again.

This makes it barely possible for me to play games such as 'Team Fortress 2' because I can't press spacebar+ctrl+mouse1 to rocket jump (Note that the problem happens all the time, not just in games).

This happens with every key on the keyboard except for the SHIFT, CTRL, Fn and ALT keys.
The problem remains regardless of whether I'm using an external/inbuilt mouse/keyboard.
I have used this laptop without having this problem in the past.

I have already tried going to the control panel > change mouse settings > 'Device Settings' tab> Settings... > PalmCheck-Enhanced ACM and moving the slider in PalmCheck down to 'Off'; this did not work, of course.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium edition
on an HP Pavillion dv6 Notebook PC;
AMD A6-3410MX APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.60GHz;
8GB RAM
64-bit OS

Answer:Can't use keyboard and left mouse button simultaneously

Nevermind; I've solved the problem myself. Since I couldn't find anything about this problem anywhere else on the interwebs, I'll record the solution here:

after looking through installed programs on this laptop and finding something called 'TouchFreeze' - which was set to be open on laptop startup by default - I simply unchecked the option to make it open on startup, then clicked 'exit'.

No one will probably have the same problem because they'd only notice it if they're gamers and no gamer would install a program like that on the laptop (I am using a shared laptop), but hey, now the solution is on the internets.

How can I simulate a left button mouse click without specifying the handle of the button that it is clicking. The following works if I want to simulate a click on the command1 button.

y = SendMessage(command1.hwnd, WM_LBUTTONDOWN, 0, ByVal 0&)
x = SendMessage(command1.hwnd, WM_LBUTTONUP, 0, ByVal 0&)

However, I am using the SetCursorPos api, and I would just like to send a mouse down/up command to click at the point that I specify. How can I do this?

Hi,

This is the second time this has happened within about three weeks. My left mouse button and enter key on the keyboard has been disabled. All other functions like the right mouse button and other keys on keyboard seem to be working fine.

So, with the execute button or key disabled, I am unable to open or run any program, like Spyware Doctor or Norton's AV. Am also unable to download, open and run your scan utilities as I cannot execute anything.

Does anyone have any idea how to regain control of the mouse buttons and enter key on the keyboard so I can run some scans?

Thanks!

The left-hand button, which is below the touchpad, and is equivalent to a left mouse button, has twoproblems. The first (which I can live with) is that if I press the left hand side of thatbutton, that side stays down and the right sidecomes up (kind of like a seesaw). The second, which is more serious, and drives me crazy, is that even a very light touch or resting myfinger on that button causes the computer to act as if I have pressedthe button. I have the sensitivity set to the lowest possible in mycontrol panel, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. So thecomputer ends up doing things I do not want it to do at the time --like opening links or selecting text. The right-hand button worksjust fine.  I am using the most current UltraNav driver.

Answer:problems with left "mouse" button below touchpad

After filling out a form via the IBM Electronic Service Call (https://www-930.ibm.com/support/esc/signin.jsp), My contact (my daughter) got called within five minutes!  They said they would send out a new touchpad assembly that should fix the problem, and it arrived the next day!  What great service! My only complaint is that I had trouble navigating the web site to get the form -- I kept getting back to the original screen.  Somehow, I finally managed to get the web page containing the form.

Hey guys, first post here.

I was just using my laptop, when all of a sudden the left mouse button sinks in. I can't click it anymore. My next step is to contact Best Buy and HP. It would take 2-4 weeks for BB to fix it and 7-10 days for HP. I would much rather use HP, but last time when using HP, they sent me a charger a week after it was due. I am a student and I really need this laptop.

As of now, I just took that left mouse pad off. Now I see a black part underneath it. I think I can put the mouse pad back on top without a problem. I realize now that this black part has sunk all the way to the bottom. Any ideas on how to get it back to the top, the normal position, I mean? Can I do this by myself? I really don't have the time to wait for HP to fix it, so what do you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

the left mouse button on my laptop has pysically broken off. I can place it back into position and it still works, but obviously its loose and needs fixing, but I'm thinking there must have been something within the machine, some clip maybe, that broke. The button itself looks fine. Is this reparable though? and it not is there anything else i might try, I'd not want to replace the enter laptop because of 1 stupid button.

I've done a google and nothing seems to come up for this problem.

Thanks

Hi!

I think there is only one way to go to a local ASP.
They can replace the left mouse button or the cover.

If you have experience with notebook disassembling you can look on eBay. Maybe there you can such part.

Answer:Reaplacement left mouse button for laptop

You have to replace the whole top cover.   (4) Top cover(includes TouchPad):For use with Compaq models 689696-001For use with blue HP models 689694-001For use with black HP models 689695-001   Here is the (black) part on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-HP-2000-2B89WM-2000-SERIES-PALMREST-TOUCHPAD-TOP-CASE-COVER-689695-0... Here is the Service Manual: Manual Take a look at the picture of the backside of the top cover in the eBay auction. If you still have the left mouse button they sometimes can be reseated and repaired but it will still require just about the same disassembly as replacing the top cover.  If you need more help post back. If the answer has solved your issue please click "accept as solution" so other people can find it later.

Hi,

I have a number of users who when they re-dock their laptop, either a R700, R830 or R930 the external mouse keyboard or screens fail to work, although the screens do sometimes activate.

They are all using the hi-speed port replicator 2, we have tried updating the bios on a couple of machines, which has made no improvement.

All the laptops will dock fine when powered off or in sleep mode, does anyone have any ideas on a fix to this, thanks

Can you tell us something about you? Are you some authorized dealer or service partner?
I mean if you have company who offers support for Toshiba notebooks you should not waste your time discussing on forums but contact Toshiba directly and try to clarify this issue.

My advice for you is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. I don?t know where do you live but Toshiba ASPs you can find on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/

Hi

Without the good working Toshiba VAP, other Toshiba software would not work correctly.
Therefore it?s important to get the VAP package working before starting the installation of other Toshiba software!

From my point of few you should update the Win 7 to the latest state before starting the software installation. The Win 7 SP1 should be installed before starting the additional software.

I found some installation instruction and the proper order:

Hey folks,

ive a satellite p300, its about 2/3 years old and in the last few days the left mouse button has gone belly up on me.
It no longer springs back up when i press it and needs a bit of wiggeling about to un-click it.
i dont mind opening it up if its a reasonably easy thing to fix, however id prefer not to do it if it *needs* to be replaced.

anyone have any ideas/walk throughs?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite P300 - Left Mouse Button sticking

Sounds like the plastic button has broken, which may require a cover replacement. It may be hard to fix something like this yourself so the best solution may be to get a quote from an Authorized Service Center.
