Hello Forum,
i have exactly the same problem as described here, 2 years ago:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65519
I need to update my BIOS, but i cant because the BIOS Updater tells me that Intel-TXT is enabled.
Unfortunatelly i cant disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The "cursor" just jumps over it.
I can only "Hide" it which doesnt help.
I have the same for the VT-d and VT-x setting in the BIOS. This is not selectable or changeable as well.
TPM isnt enabled though...
I installed the infineon suite and it tells me that i need to enable TPM in bios to use it. :-(
I have an very old Bios Version 3.1 and i read in the changelog that in V3.4 and 3.5 there were many TPM related changes....
Anyway....
Back then, a user named Paolo30 uploaded a file P007Dv360A_EC77V140.zip to 2shared.com which fixed this.
Unfortunatelly this file was deleted on 2shared.com
can someone please provide that file (or a later bios update) which fixes this?
Thanks in advance.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Port?g? R830-10P belongs to the PT321 series so you need BIOS released for Port?g? R830 PT321
You can download such older BIOS versions from different Toshiba driver pages.
For example: http://www.toshiba-asia.com/sg/support/drivers
On this Toshiba Asia page I could find all BIOS for this Portege model.
Dear all i i', trying to update Bios from 2.6 to 3.0 but the software update gives the error:this computer is not supported" Strange because i download the software from toshiba.
Can someone help

Hi
Did you unzip the BIOS package correctly?
Did you install the VAP for Win 7?
The VAP is needed and I noticed that BIOS update issue can appear if something is wrong with the installed VAP. Maybe you should update/reinstall the VAP.
Greetings all,
Portege R830-138 Current BIOS 3.7
I am unable to update the BIOS to either 3.8 or the latest 3.9 version. Error: This Computer Is Not Supported.
VAP is installed and modules are working. A previous forum post suggested that it may be related to the recent Intel Management Interface firmware update which I had applied and am unable to uninstall or rollback.
Any suggestions?
THKS!
Hi
A friend of mine has updated the BIOS from 3.7 to 3.9 without any big problems.
It could be possible that you cannot update the BIOS because of the missing or disabled TVALZ services.
Go to Control panel -> Administrative Tools icon and click services.
Here you can check if the TVALZ service is available ? if its available, enable it and then try to update the BIOS.
If this will not work, you will need to recover the notebook using Recovery HDD or Recovery disk? The BIOS update should functions using the Toshiba factory settings
Hi,
I want to update my laptop bios 3.40 with the version (BIOS_V390_ECV160_WIN) , it shows me an error message :
TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.2.1
"This computer in not supported"
Why!!!!!
Check this thread:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65519
try the update to v3.60 before trying the v3.90
By the way: Does VAP (value added package) is installed properly? This package is very important for BIOS update
Portege R830/PT321E: Bios Update stops with "An error occurred while preparing the update environment..."
Following message seems at first
BIOS Version: Current Ver. 3.40 -> Updated Ver. 3.70
EC Version: Current Ver. 1.30 -> Updated Ver. 1.50
Bios and EC should be updated
During the BIOS update seems following message:
+An error occurred while preparing the update environment. You have not given permission to execute the update.+
My settings:
- BitLocker is switched off.
- No connection to a docking station
- Windows 7 is installed
- Boot mode is on? I guess it means:
"Closes all open programs, shut down windows, and then turns off your computer."
Any idea what the problem is?

Hi ML
Maybe stupid question now but why do you want to update BIOS on this, I think, pretty new notebook model?
Have you noticed some issues or hardware problems?
After recent Windows 7 32 Bit update, the LAN connection is failing to start (Code 10) under device manager
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
I have tried uninstalling drivers / rolling back / and installing the following files from Toshiba support pages, but does not resolve the issue.
- lan-20110330164846
- fareg-20110331130330
How do I get Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection on Portege 830 -13C to work?
(wireless is fine)
Hi
Error Code 10 is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device and usually its caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.
Therefore I think that driver installation should help to sort out this issue.
I would recommend doing this:
- Go to device manager and uninstall the LAN driver
- Reboot the notebook but don?t install the driver
- Install the CCleaner and clean the registry
- Reboot the notebook once again
- Then go to device manager, choose the LAN card (Ethernet controller) and install the downloaded driver
As option I would recommend testing the LAN driver from Intel page.
Hi,
I've got a work laptop (Portege R830), which doesn't want to sniff packets. I've got it connected to a Netgear Hub (DS104), along with an older notebook, and then uplink to ADSL.
Running a continuous ping to the default gateway and Wireshark on both devices and the other computer can see the pings from the Toshiba, but not vice-versa.
The Toshiba is running as an Administrator account, has the Windows Firewall disabled, and my Symantec End Point Encryption disabled. I don't have any other AV to my knowledge.
Does anyone have any ideas of services I should disable/enable, or knowledge of the features of this NIC?
According to the Intel site "Yes, all currently marketed Intel? PRO/100, Intel? PRO/1000, Intel? Gigabit, Intel? PRO/10 Gigabit, and Intel? 10 Gigabit adapters support Promiscuous mode. " But the Intel? 82579 Gigabit Ethernet Controller is not in the list that follows on; http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-004185.htm?wapkw=%28promiscuous%29
Thanks for your time.
Usually the firewall or Internet Security software blocks pings so perhaps try uninstalling Symantec completely. Just disabling it may not disable everything.
Another thing to try is use a Static IP Address instead of DHCP. Disabling IPv6 or installing a newer LAN driver from the Intel website may also help.
Hi All,
I have a Toshiba Portege R830, running 32-bit Windows 7 (SP1) enterprise (for work).
I also boot into Linux Mint 14 64-bit, which I have installed on a portable USB HDD (outside work).
I recently bought a USB 3 HDD, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it only gives me USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).
I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc), which say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.
The drive reports itself as being USB 3, the cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed), and the port I'm using on the R830 is 3.
I experience the same, whether I boot into windows or linux.
I updated all drivers on both OSs, to no avail.
next i tried to update the BIOS, but I keep getting the following error:
"An error occurred while preparing the update environment.
You have not given permission to execute the update."
For the record, this is the BIOS I'm going from, & to.
BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.80 --> Updated Ver.4.10
EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.60
Does anyone know why I would not be getting USB 3 speeds (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40 to 50 MB/s), or why all diagnostics are saying USB 2?
Does anyone know how to overcome the BIOS update issue?
(I've tried safe mode, disabling AV, disabling NX)
Cheers
Is this USB driver installed?
Please try to install it and check USB speed again.
Hi,
Could Toshiba post a changelog of their BIOS versions?
Since I bought my unit almost a year ago, I updated it every single time and haven't found any improvements.
Thanks!
Did not found any info on the Toshiba European driver page about BIOS changes but Toshiba US driver page provides such details?
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=3321058&pf=true
Hopefully this can be useful?
Hi,
Four days ago I bought R830-111 [PT320E-00X00XPL] and ADATA S599 2.5" SATA II Solid State Drive 128GB to replace the standard HDD drive. Unfortunately, the new SSD drive does not work with this laptop.
Several times, after many restarts disk was visible in the BIOS.
But there is no possibility to normal use of SSD drive.
I did update laptop BIOS [BIOS360_EC140_WIN] and SSD drive. That did not help.
Can someone help and tell me how to make to work this ADATA SSD and Portege?
Best Regards
Did you check if the SSD drive needs an firmware update?
In some cases this is needed?but in worst case the SSD drive could not be compatible and this means that you will need to test another one :(
I tried to BIOS update, I found the newest BIOS, downloaded and run ...
Then Windows show pop up message :
+TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.1.2+
+BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.10 --> Updated Ver.3.50+
+EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.30+
+Because the Intel TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) is enabled, the BIOS and EC update cannot be executed.+
I rebooted the machine pressed F2 to enter the BIOS and then ... I can't change "Trusted Execution Technology" feature from ENABLE to DISABLE also can't turn on TPM. The same problem I have with Virtualization also can't change feature.
I really don't know why BIOS make this kind of jokes, few days before i can change any options and now I can't. Described features are on black and cursor skips them ...
Hi
Does this mean that you was able to change the TPM and Trusted Execution Technology in the past?
Did you try to set the BIOS to default settings?
In BIOS press F9 and save the changes? this should set the notebook?s BIOS to default.
Furthermore check the Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities.
Here you can change the BIOS settings too
Hi - looking for some advice here.
Have just updated to the latest BIOS for my R830 - version 3.10 (EC version 1.20). Update went without a hitch.
My fingerprint reader is kaput - and am going away travelling for a while - so need to increase the security on the laptop - so thought I would put a password on the HDD via BIOS.
However I'm having some issues - and would value any help and advice.
Under the BIOS tab 'Security' - I have a number of choices. BIOS password (User and Supervisor), HDD1/SSD1 Password (Mode - User Only, User+Master) and TPM (Enabled, Disabled).
Having researched things - I think I should be leaving the BIOS password as 'Not Registered', setting the HDD1/SSD1 Password mode to user and setting TPM to 'enabled'. This should then allow me to 'register' a user password.
I then go to register a user password - type in the password - and then another window opens for me to type a re-confirmation - which I do.
But whatever password I use - I always get a message "Passwords are not the same Press ENTER to continue". Pressing continue takes me back to the point in BIOS where it tells me that the HDD1/SSD1 'User' password is not registered.
You have to believe me - that although my typing isn't great - I am typing the same passwords. I've even tried different types of passwords (numbers only, letter only, mix of the two) - to no avail.
I've tried enabling and disabling TPM - again - no change.
Any idea what's going on?

Hi
I recommend to set only the BIOS password.
This is the password which would be asked at the beginning while powering on the unit.
As far as I know the unknown BIOS password cannot be deleted by any user but only by an Toshiba ASP. So it?s a good security option?
Furthermore the ?User Password? and Supervisor Password can be set using the Toshiba Assist.
Check the Toshiba tools in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities -> Toshiba Assist
Here you have to check the tab called Security
Hi
Toshiba released updated BIOS version 3.00-WIn on the 11/08/2011.
Has anybody installed this and/or know what it covers?
I hesitate to install without knowing what may be altered.
Many thanks for any comments.
Hi
As far as I know Toshiba European driver page does not provide details what has been changed in the new BIOS versions. But I found the Toshiba US driver page and there you can find all the details about the BIOS changes.

Hi,
yesterday i set the bios/supervisor password.
When i now turn on the notebook, i can see the Toshiba - Leading innovations screen and then it goes dark and won't boot any further.
The harddisk / fan / graphics card etc is working - but i don't see anything nor do i get some kind of prompt or shell or whatsoever.
I tried all those "Press, ESC, Press F2, Press F1, Press INS" stuff, nothing worked out.
I removed the battery for several mins while pressing the power button, nothing.
Maybe somebody has some kind of clue whats wrong with this maschine....
Hi
Did you use some high ASCII character like ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? etc in your BIOS / Supervisor password?
In the past the usage of such characters prevented the notebook from booting up.
In such case you had to contact the service partner in order to solve this problem.

2 more repliesDear all,
I have tried to download the newest BIOS update for the R830 model, but I end up with a corrupt zip file every time:
http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20110908125815.zip
Anybody else has this problem?
Anyone who would be able to send me a working file by mail (throwaway (@) angelwithagun.com)?
Thank you very much!
Bye,

Hi
I could download and was able to unzip this BIOS package properly.
No error messages by now!
Hi,
I received a notification via Tempro that a BIOS upgrade was available. I downloaded the ZIP file (bios-20120209125153.zip), extracted the package (BIOS360_EC140_WIN.exe) and ran it according to the instructions.
The package runs, gives the "Extracting files..." progress bar then displays a dialogue entitled "TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.1.2" that says: "This BIOS package does not support this operating system."
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Satellite 830R-143 with the short part no. PT32LE
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks in advance for your help...
Hi
Do you have any problems with notebook?
If not then why you want to do the BIOS? Just because new BIOS was released?
I would not change anything if my notebook would run properly.
However, the BIOS update requires the VAP (value added package).
So be sure that this VAP is installed properly. If not, update this.
Hi!
I am considering to buy a Port?g? R830. I haven't decided yet between the Port?g? R830-10R (model with HDD) and the Port?g? R830-10P (model with a 256 GB SSD). To do so I would like to know:
-What is the SSD model assembled in the Port?g? R830?
-It uses a standart SATA connection or a proprietary one like the previous Port?g? R700 SSD?
-Have anyone relaced the original HDD of the Port?g? R830 by a brand new SATA 3 SSD? Wich one? It works fine?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Hi MadVet,
The SSD of Portege R830-10P is a 2.5? Toshiba model so it will work properly in Portege R830. Furthermore due to 2.5? form factor it uses standard SATA interface as normal HDDs.
In my opinion you should take the model with SSD. 256GB is enough for operating system and applications and also for some important data. If you need more disk space use an external HDD. SSDs are very fast and you will notice the SSD performance instead HDD ;)
Hi.
I have Portege R830-10Q with 128GB SSD inside, but it is getting too small.
Is there another slot for normal HDD, or do I have to buy [this|http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/261480744399?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=tru e&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&devi ce=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11= ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108]
and throw DVD unit out to put HDD inside?
Thanks
Portege R830 supports only one HDD or SSD drive.
Regarding the Optical Bay HDD/SSD Caddy Adapter:
I?m not quite sure if BIOS would be able to use suchpart.
In the past some Toshiba notebooks supported the ?Select bay? which allowed you to use the HDD caddy in the ODD bay, but many notebooks don?t support this features.
In worst case you will need to replace your current HDD/SSD with bigger HDD/SSD drive
Hi !
I've recently acquired your product Toshiba Portege R830 for 4 days, and i'm noticing some over usage by the cpu when i start the computer and a bit noise from the fan.
Is this normal in the computer ? Something related to the serie?
I've followed the advices given in other threads:
Update bios
update fingerprint driver
and seems not to work..
Should i change some bios settings ?
Plz can you make me clear about this topic ?
thank you in advance
Hi
You could try to disable the fingerprint in device manager or simply remove the fingerprint software for some testing purposes.
Additionally please also check the table below regarding the recommended Power Plane settings:
*1st Proposal:*
Cooling Method: Maxim Performance
Intel Turbo boost Technology: Enable
CPU Frequency mode: Always low
*2nd Proposal:*
Cooling Method: Battery Optimized
Intel Turbo boost Technology: Disable
CPU Frequency mode: Always high
Here you can find the single options:
<Setting Method>
Changes in Operating System:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method
Changes in Bios (Power Management):
Intel Turbo boost Technology
Changes in Operating System:

Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the memory of my R830 up to 2x8GB. The US technical specification of the R830-S8330 (see the link) seem to be exactly the same as my R830.
Thanks for your answers
Philippe
I guess if both models have exactly the same Chipset variation and CPU, then you can use 8GB Modules. But I would test it first before purchasing the RAM if possible. There may be something else limiting the RAM to 4GB Modules.
3 more repliesCan someone please tell me where the SIM card slot is as its not referred to in the manual?
Hey,
Usually the SIM card slot is under the battery. So if you remove the battery you should see a small slot where you can insert the SIM card.
Check this!!!
Hi - I have a Portege R830 and can't identify the exact Model - I have the Serial Number 4C047625H but that is all
The Sticker on the back has been covered with a VOID sticker and I can't get the model number!
Help please
Run Toshiba Service Station to view the Model number.
Another tool you can use is Crystal DMI (google it).
Hello,
i have a Portege R830-10R, does it have SATA III?
Will I notice a big difference if I decide to change to na SSD and add 4GB memory?
Thanks in advance for any reply!
Have fun!
Hi
I have an Portege R830. If you are asking about adding 4GB of RAM - I guess you're running a 64bit version of windows. I'm running a 32 bit version (for software compatibility) - so can't comment on the effectiveness of upgrading the RAM in this specific instance.
However I have installed a Samsung EVO 750 GB SSD.
This - in my view - has made a significant difference. Boot time is halved and in general opening a programme (such as PowerPoint) feels almost instantaneous.
On other PCs I have - the 'adding RAM' trick is something I've done - and it makes a difference. The SSD has been more impressive. I'd do it - but be careful about which SSD you choose. After much research - I'd only look at a Samsung.
Hope this helps.

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE INSTALL ORDER OF DRIVERS / SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS XP FOR TOSHIBA PORTEGE R830-10Q PLEASE?
You can use the installation order from other models, it will be very similar.
The most important one is the Chipset Utility, then Display, then Toshiba Common Modules.
Make sure you have Service Pack 3 installed first. The XP drivers should be available on the Toshiba site. Check the other countries if it's not available in your region.
Do a BIOS Update as well since it's a new model.
Hi everyone,
I bought my self a second hand R830-1ee (i7 2640m, 256ssd, 8gm ram etc)
I paid a high price because of the specs and it turned out that the video adapter is defective. It is very blueish and a bit blurry. The seller dissappeared so I am by my own.
I checked on ebay and there is a fair amount of R830 motherboards with i5s and I was wondering if it would be possible to swap the motherboard with one of those considering they are both r830s.
I don't mind to much the downgrade to an i5 if it means salvaging this bad transaction.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi
Generally speaking keyboard should be exchanged by authorized personal only. Small mistake can result with broken plastic parts like keyboard connector.
I presume you don?t have experience with this stuff so I strongly recommend you to visit nearest service and ask for help.
By the way: what is wrong with your machine? Why do you want to exchange keyboard?

Hi, strange issue. But cant turn off the touchpad on a Portege R830 (Windows 7 32bit). I have seen this problem on both of the machines I have. This has never been an issue for the Tecra models I've had, M5, M9, M10, M11, R840 etc.
I have the latest Alps driver installed, from Toshiba.co.uk. I have tried the button on the touchpad, this does not work. The Alps device cannot be disabled from Device Manager. I have tried the Toucpad properties from the System Tray, Advanced Tab, Advanced Settings. This does not have a simple "turn off touchpad" setting. It does have an option to turn off the touchpad when using a USB mouse - however, this also does not work.
Can anyone help with this? The only other option I can think of is the BIOS, but this would not suit my users, who may want to switch it back on again at some point while running Windows.
Hi liamw,
You can turn off the touchpad if you press FN+F9 key combination. The touchpad will be disabled until you press this key combination again but external mouse isn?t affected. That means you can still use an USB mouse even the touchpad is disabled with FN+F9 key combination.
Check this!!!
Hello,
i have problem in my company with one of out notebooks and the problem is that when i connect dynadock on my portege R830 my screen on portege blinks a few times and then i get a blue screen. The portege and dynadock are both new and the portege has a preinstalled windows 7 pro. I reinstall already drivers for display and dynadock drivers and still the some problem.
do you have any idea?

is it a BSOD or just a blank blue screen?
what colour is the desktop background set to on your pc?the same blank blue?
Hi,

[Intel ark: i7-2620M|http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz]
The processor i7-2620M supports up to 16GB of RAM. As the memory controller is embedded in the CPU, the chances of supporting 16GB of RAM are real. But the notebook datasheet says that the maximum RAM is 8GB.
Does anyone had success installing 16GB of RAM in a similar model of notebook?
> The processor i7-2620M supports up to 16GB of RAM.
And what is with chipset? You have already maximum RAM inside (8GB).
The SSD of my R830 is kind of small for me :( IS there any chance of swaping the Toshiba proprietary SSD with a "standard" SATA SSD? Asuming there are HDD models of the machine there must be a standart SATA interface and a HDD/SSD Caddy for the R830! I couldn't find any info on such a swap on the web :( Any ideas?
Hi
Yes, the notebook supports the SATA controller and you can use also simple 1.8inch SATA HDD.
In my opinion this should not be a big problem.
Good afternoon,
I use a Toshiba Portege R830 (PT321E), our OS is Windows 7 x64. We found ConfigFree to create Network Profile.
We created a profil to altern Wired/Wireless connection when plug/unplugged wire.
We remark that at start up, after log in, we have an error message :
" ConfigFree
The following items may be causing the failure.
Wireless LAN Utility is active (Please close the utility).
Netwok Property window is open (Please close the window).
Internet Option windows is open (Please close the option window).
In cases where there is still a problem, please close all other applications and then run ConfigFree "
So we are at startup and no one should be started except Wireless LAN Utility could be started (I don't know how to check).
Have you got an idea ?
Hi
Try to configure the Profile once again.
If this does not help, uninstall the ConfigFree.
Download the newest version from Toshiba EU driver page and install.
Then try to configure again.
Hi -
i need some advice.
Just bought an R830-138. Have to say - I'm not overly impressed with it so far [had an M300 before which was great] - and there is out stand-out issue I'd like some advice on.
When running on battery or mains - and when the screen brightness is turned down to any of the three lower levels - when I track the cursor across the screen - there is a gentle fl1cker present.
This only happens or the first few seconds after I move the cursor - then it stops.
It's then fine unless I leave the laptop alone for a few minutes - then once again - I get the fl1ckering for the first few seconds when I move the cursor.
It's very distracting.
I see that the latest BIOS [which I haven't applied yet] is supposed to cure a fluctuation when using an external monitor [obvously not the case with me].
I have updated the Intel screen drivers [to the latest versions] - but again - no cure.
When the screen is set to higher levels of brightness - the fl1cker does not appear to be there.
However it may simply be masked by the greater brightness.
I don't think my eyes are especially sensitive - but it is an awful distraction.
I did wonder if it is a power settings issue - where the laptop is trying to be smart and adjust power/screen brightness automatically. So I have altered the standard settings [and renamed it]. I have turned-off the Toshiba eco utility. All with no sucess.

So in such case I would say this has nothing to do with the BIOS, display driver or any other software.
It?s really hard to say what could cause such flickering?
But fact is that for most displays (but not all) the FL inverter controls the backlight and maybe the faulty FL inverter causes this?
However this is only the suggestion so I think you should get in contact with your ASP (service partner) and a technician should check this? that?s my personal opinion?
I need the right driver, maybe it's called "Toshiba Accessibility Utility" Driver written in the manual but not in the huge list of drivers - it?s for win764.
Where can I download it and how is it called?
Thanks!
Hello
What you need is ?Toshiba Value Added package?.
Visit Toshiba?s download page under
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Choose your notebook model and you will find it there.
Hi all,
Just bought a R830 with Core i5 2520M and stock 500Gb 7200rpm HDD. I swapped out the HDD for an Intel 510 series SSD (250Gb). Performed system restore to factory condition onto the SSD. Everything works well and it's lightning fast (boots to desktop in under 20s).
However, I'm noticing some electronic sounds coming from under the trackpad (vicinity of where the HDD/SSD bay is) when there is moderate to heavy disk usage.
It appears to be some kind of interference with perhaps the electronics of the indicator lights below the trackpad buttons or somethings else?
Should I be worried? And has anyone else experienced this? Also, those who bought factory installed SSDs - do you get any kind of noise from the drive?
Thanks a lot.
Hi tn9393,
On this way without hearing this noise it?s hard to say if it?s normal or not and what the exact reason is. Easiest way is you test the original HDD in your Portege notebook. So you can determine if the noise is related to drive (SSD or HDD) or it?s an electrical part on mainboard.
But without this test procedure it?s not possible to give you a detailed answer because it?s user to user forum only. If you need professional help contact an authorized service provider in your country and ask for help. The guys have professional diagnostic tools to check everything on notebooks.
DVD Player - Portege R830 (03N00701)
I can not find any trace of Toshiba Video Player or Toshiba DVD player software. My dealer simply told me that "they probably don't put it in anymore" and told me to use Windows Media Player. Yet the .pdf manual clearly has instructions for using it.
Am I supposed to have a Toshiba DVD Player on board and if not, can I dowload it online?
Hi Lauri G
According to the spec for the Portege R830 series you should have The Toshiba DVD Player software.
However you can download it here,
[http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK]
I have not used it as I normally use a freeware prog. called VLC as it plays any of the video file formats I have tried on it.
I have the Satellite R830-143 and relatively speaking it has the same spec as the Portege and had the DVD Player on when I bought it about a month ago.
Seems dealers tell you anything without even bothering to check.
Best wishes
Hello everybody, I have a problem with the 2 battery clips which are holding the battery in the guidance. They're broken and now the battery doesn't hold in the guidance without fixing the 2 clips with tape. Has anybody else the same problem and now what I can do against it?
Where can I eventually buy these clips?
Thanks...
I cannot say for sure but I think you will not be able to buy these clips as separately parts.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask how it can be fixed.
You know possibility to buy some small parts for notebooks are very limited and it is not so easy to fix such things.
Hi everyone,
I have 5 brand new Portege R830-138 with Win7x64 fully updated with latest drivers and patches.
Yesterday I connected my iPhone4S to the USB port on the right side and everything worked fine (iTunes, tethering, etc).
Unfortunately that USB port (the one on the right side) doesn't work anymore since today: iPhone, usb mouse, pendrives...nothing, it seems to be dead. The USB port on the left side still works with usb mouse and pendrives but not with the iPhone.
I thought it was a laptop HW problem on the right side USB port so I tryed with a second Portege.
Same issue: connecting the iPhone on the right side USB port, the USB port no longer works.
The same iPhone connected to my MacBook Air works fine.
I wouldn't try with a third Portege, do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Valerio
Hi
The USB port on the left supports the USB 2.0 standard the USB port on the right supports the USB 3.0 standard.
I?m not sure if the Apple software supports the USB 3.0.
According to some information in the internet the USB 3.0 remains unsupported by Apple
Does anyone have any tips on how to connect more than one external monitor to a Portege R830?
I have one monitor going through the docking station, but when I attach a second monitor to the port on the laptop it does not seem to recognise it at all.
This used to work on my old Portege, but for some reason not on the R830.
Any tips or advice?
Hi
Are you using the same port in Docking station and Portege R830?
Docking station replicates the ports so you can use either the Portege port or docking station port.
If you want to connect more than one external monitor to the notebook then I would recommend using something like Toshiba Dynadock

Hi - hope someone can help as I only have a few strands of hair left to pull out!
In the past fortnight a problem has developed with the trackpad - and possibly my keyboard. Here are some of the symptoms
1. The cursor on the screen will suddenly freeze. I can leave the laptop and it's working come back and it's not.
2. If I type on the keyboard (can just touch the keys or I could be typing in a document) and the cursor may freeze again. During this event the small 'mouse/trackpad' on/off icon flashes briefly on the screen. If I hit another key (literally anywhere on the keyboard) a number of times (no pattern to the number) the icon may cycle and the cursor will move and then freeze again.
It's as if every key on the keyboard is somehow performing the role of the FnF9 key.
Unfortunately I did take the laptop on a business trip recently and this time when the laptop booted - the cursor was frozen and no amount of considered or random button pressing got it going. It was a battery out job . That scared me.
If I connect a USB keyboard and mouse then pressing keys on that external keyboard does not cause the cursor to freeze. But it might do anyway - as described at 1. above.
The F9 key will unfreeze the cursor (I guess turn the trackpad back on) - but it won't be long before it cycles back off again.
I've not dropped the laptop. There's nothing physically wrong with it. The battery holds charge and it boots successfully. I've made no hardware c... Read more
Hi
According to your issue description it sounds like the touchpad would be disabled automatically.
As you already mentioned, the touchpad could be enabled and disabled using the function key combination FN+F9
Since you?ve got also some keyboard problems, my theory is that there is some keyboard problem which might be responsible for the touchpad ON/OFF issue.
What do you think about this theory?
I don?t think that there is a software problem because as you already reset the system to early time point (factory settings???). Therefore I think the software conflict cannot be the reason for that?.
Hi,
I've install a fresh windows 7 64 bits on my R830 laptop, since eco, presentation buttons and the one to disable the touchpad doesn't work.
I've try to uninstall and reinstall toshiba value added package but it doesn't change a thing....
Any help will be appreciated....

Hi,
I recently started to look for a SSD drive to improve my laptop's performance.
How fast is SATA controller in R830 - 3 or 6Gbps?
Is there any list of compatible devices?
Thanks!

As far as I know the notebook supports the Serial ATA Rev. 2.6 interface.
According to the Wikipedia info the SATA revision 2.x supports 3 Gbit/s

Hello
I need to change my internal SSD 225GB to a SSD 512GB!
What do I have to do on hardware and software level?
Can I take any SSD?
Thanks for help?
Regards, Florence
The HDD or SSD drive upgrade does not require any particular changes in the software or hardware.
You need a compatible 2.5? SATA SSD drive.
Here is an nice and very useful document how to upgrade / replace the HDD or SSD drive in the Portege R830 & Satellite R830 series.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/CRU18037E0000R01.htm
Of course, after such upgrade, you will need to install the system again? the best choice would be the usage or recovery disk and to recover the notebook to the factory settings.

Hi,
I bought a Portege R830 last week. I registered my 2 index fingers and everything worked great for about 2 days. Now when I put my index fingers, the utility no longer recognises my prints, neither one.
How can I delete the prints and start over? I tried going into the utility but since it doesn't recognise my print, it doesn't give me access.
TIA
Patricia
Start the Fingerprint utility as Administrator and click the "Delete all fingerprints" button. It may need to enter a password to give you access.
If you can't remember the password, you may need to send the notebook in to a Toshiba Repair Center to remove the fingerprints.
Hi all !!
I've bought my Portege R830 for nearly 6 months and sometimes i hear a small noise coming out of the computer like a small hiss... when pc is processing..
I think its coming from my HDD ... is this normal in this model?
Thanks in advance !
The HDD creates some noises? also an cooling fan makes a noise?
Therefore it?s difficult to say what part produces this mentioned noise?
You ask if its normal???
Well, my notebook?s HDD creates some noise from time to time? especially it appears while the HDD head is moving?
Hi Guys and Gals,
I'm needing to build an SOE for an Australian Port?g? R830 PT321A-01M002 and require the appropriate driver installation order to ensure stability with Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I'm well aware of the standard order was wanting something more specific.
Obviously this question get's asked a lot of the various models, especially since technology is moving at such a rapid pace, is there a definitive source to use to get this information as we get new models in to standardise for corporate use? Something like Toshiba tools I guess would be handy that used to be for 2009 notebooks when Windows 7 was released to make it easier.
Many thanks, Richard.

The order is still virtually the same as previous chipsets, so if you have an install list for say the R500 or R600, then you could use that as a basis.
Generally:
The Intel Chipset is the most important.
Then the Intel Rapid Storage driver.
Then the Toshiba Value Added Package.
Then the Display Driver.
...then the rest of the drivers (the order isn't very important)
Hi - need some help.
I have a Toshiba R830 that I have had to 'downgrade' to Windows 7 32 bit from the pre-installed 64 bit version. Long story - but it's software compatibility.
Despite downloading and installing what I think are all the relvant 32 drivers - I don't seem to be able to get the fingerprint reader to work.
I have downloaded and installed the software fp-sw-201103311304 from the Tosh website - unzipped it and attempted to install it.
It's actually hard to know if it has installed! I get a window telling me it will extract the file to a C:\temp directory and simultaneously tells me that "tinstallwb.exe" will start once extraction is complete.
It seems to extract - but I can't see that the installation actually happens.
Afterwards there is nothing listed under Programmes - and nothing 'launches'.
Under device manager - I cannot see anything listed as 'fingerprint reader' Under security devices - the only listing is TPM 1.2. Actually not sure this is anything to do with the fingerprint reader - although I have enabled and then disabled it via BIOS.
Am I missing something?
Could the reader [which I have not used since new - although that's only 8 weeks] have stopped working?
Would be very grateful for any pointers.
Try to start installation manually. On the desktop create folder ?unzip? and after doing this start downloaded exe. Extract files to folder ?unzip? and disable option ?Run command after extraction?.
When the files are extracted close Toshiba archive extractor and open ?unzip? folder?. There you will find setup.exe.
Try please to start it manually.
Like others, I have a new Portege R830 and experienced the sudden unexplained loss of functionality of the 13 function keys. My os is a native windows 7 64bit install, with office 2010 installed afterwards. I have the SSD model.
I followed the instructions, removing TVAP and re-installing, and I have both VAP and flashcards operational. I used the USA site drivers for the latest set (the Australian and European driver sets are older versions and different).
Most, but not all, of the function keys are now working again. What isn't working are as follows:
- F12 functionkey not operating
- volume up and down keys not operating - what I am most interested in - any suggestions on how to get functional again please?
also, on re-installing VAP, I lost functionality on ecobutton. Any suggestions on how to get working again?
thanks in anticipation
Hi
You are on the right way dude? the VAP and Flash Card Support Utility controls the FN buttons. If you have an European notebook model, I would recommend using the drivers from Toshiba European driver page but generally speaking there should not be a difference in the software?
However, in my case restarting the Flash Cards helps to get back the FN buttons functionality. The Flash Cards can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Flash Cards.
So check if restart would help you.
Regarding the Eco button: ECO Utility controls this button too?so would recommend installing/reinstalling this software beside the VAP
Hi,
I tried to restore my laptop however when I press zero then start my computer, then press F8 to try to enter the main screen for factory restore option, it has a pop up to ask me to enter the password for the username "HomeGroupUser$".
However, i have never setup this username nor any admin user in my Toshiba.
I tried to enter the possible password, or enter nothing and press enter, it still doesn't allow me to login.
I want to check if there is any default password for toshiba?
Thanks.

> I tried to restore my laptop however when I press zero then start my computer, then press F8 to try to enter the main screen for factory restore option,
Do you have an Toshiba European notebook model?
If yes, you can start the HDD recovery press F8 while booting up the unit.
Then you will get an Advanced boot menue. Here you can to choose option called Repair my Computer.
Then a new window would appear and you should be able to choose HDD recovery.
Fingerprint sensor stoped working. I got error message "Failed to connect to the sensor". Any idea how to solve it?
Can you please tell us which notebook model do you have and which operating system do you use?

Hello
I cannot say for sure but in my opinion there is some problem with notebook power supply and power electronic.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider as soon as possible or your local dealer and ask for replacement.
I have a Toshiba Portege R830-10Q that I am trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
When upgrading it stumbles and goes into a repair loop at 29% which then gives me the error 0xc000000f with no way of rolling back.
A clean install, installs absolutely fine but due to Microsoft's activation rules (can only be done via an upgrade unless you buy the product) this is no good.
Has anyone successfully managed to upgrade the R830-10Q to Windows 10 yet?
I know its not on the Toshiba list of approved PC's but surely there must be a way
I have this problem too, anyone can give us advice how to solve this problem

Hi,
I bought used Portege R830 (PT321E-00G00UCZ) with Port Replicator (PA3838D-1PRP).
Previous owner wasn't using this docking station and upgraded from Win7 to Win10.
This notebook is not recognizing docking station at all, only charging works.
I had no luck with drivers and searching online.
Dock is good, because I have another R830 with WIN7 and it works as charm.
Thank you for reply.
Hello all,
i know somebody who owns a portege R830-1C8. He asked me, if my notebook RAM is compatible with his notebook.
Actually he has inside the notebook 2gb 1Rx8 PC3-10600S-09-11-B2.
My RAM is 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-12-F2.1600.
Can he use my RAM?
Thx and greetz
Both are PC3, but not sure about the speed difference.
It may work, give it a try.
I had to format and install Windows 7 Enterprise x64 on my new Portege R830-10Q, but I cannot get the correct wireless driver installed.
I've used the instructions on this page to determine that it is an Intel device - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD0302U00000R01.htm
It does not find the device model in the database.
I've tried all the Intel drivers for Win7 (and even a few others) on this page http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
But none are working.
Also tried using the Intel tools to discover the device but this also doesn't recognise it.
Help!
I got this working by installing Intel ProSet/Wireless WiFi software 14.0.0.0 x64.
This version wasn't available on the Toshiba download list.
I want to have a desktop background or wallpaper different from the Toshiba one.
I don't succeed in getting it via windows. I use a Portege R830 and Windows 7.
Mia.
The desktop can be personalized.
Right click on desktop -> Personalize
Now you can check all available themes which contains also the background pictures.
Save the changes.
Hi all,
I just bought this machine and registered the following issue:
If I put in a DVD the notebook starts to buzz very loud. This sound disappears if I put a finger on the drive. Furthermore the DVD drive starts to chatter if I press keys above the drive like the arrow keys. That bothers me very much.
I called the support of Toshiba and they said they can pick the notebook up. But it is possible that this service creates costs because maybe this problem is within the specification.
Do you have any ideas? What can I do?
Best regards
Denis
Hi Denis_3,
Do you notice this problem with different CDs and DVDs or just one medium? Generally speaking I have also noticed the same behavior but it happens just with one disk so the problem is the disk itself in most cases.
On this way via forum it?s not easy to say what the reason is but if it?s related to CD/DVD drive and the drive needs replacing it will cost you nothing because it?s during warranty. Of course for non-warranty repairs you have to pay ;)
Greetings all,
Quick question - I'm having problems reading SD cards on my R830 under Windows XP w/ SP3. I've installed all of the official Toshiba drivers, including the "Ricoh Card Reader 2.11.17.02" driver, but whenever I insert an SD card it does not get detected. Anyone have any ideas how I can get the SD card reader working?
Thanks in advance!
Do you use supported card/cards only?
What is the status of card reader in device manager (storage controllers)?

i have R830-13D, windows 7 x64 utlimate.
the "problem" is auto change lcd backlight depends of content of screen
for example - when i set brightness level to 2 and read some newsites (white background, black text) - it's ok for me. then, i open another website with black background and yellow text - lcd backlight changing down so i have to manually change it up by Fn+F7 to level 3.
and so on - when i change tab in browser to "normal" website - white background/black text - backlight automatically going up (looks like sequentially growing up by 3-4 little steps) and i have to decrease it back to level 2.
i can see this "issue" both for toshiba display driver (download on support page) and for intel display driver.
how can i disable this feature? any idea?
p.s. auto ajustment happens only on battery, but i can't locate any settings about it (in windows power options / bios)

4 more repliesDear All,
Since I bought my R830 I wasn't fully "satisfied" with default iso image - IMHO there was just too much "extras" for a business laptop. To get rid of it I decided to clean the hard drive and install "clean" windows + drivers + apps that I really use.
The only piece of SW that I'm missing is Nero - it's not available on download center nor on the Recovery DVDs (I have created them before).
Can anyone help me?
Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards,
Robert
Hi
You can download only the Toshiba own drivers and tools.
The Toshiba image contains additional some 3rd party software which are preinstalled on the notebook but these tools and software are not downloadable and will not be found on Toshiba driver page?
So if you want to use such software, you have to install the OS using the Toshiba Recovery Disk.
My 3 month old R830's fan runs loud and often...and on a daily basis will stay running noisily until eventually the machine freezes!!!...which is very, very frustating.
Someone mentioned to me it had something to do with the fingerprint security software...go figure!....but either way I am keen to find someone who has a fix.
As it is I think the machine is way over rated, as it is only an SSD improvement on the orginal R600, which when it cam out was best in its class. A disappointing 'high end' laptop from my point of view...and the so-called 'new' model Z series looks very much the R600 with a SAME size SSD...so as it looks like I'm stuck with this one, I'm trying to find a fix for a very annoying problem.

5 more repliesHi,
I have had a Portege R830 for 1 month. Using Windows 7 64bit. Have set up Skype and all was working 2 weeks ago, now only the video works. The microphone stopped working.
I installed the latest Realtek HD Ausio Driver and Webcam driver. The microphone setting is not muted and leave and boost is on max. It is the default recording device. The only thing changed is I tried the external speakers and also started using a docking station.
This is driving me crazy. Any ideas? I wonder if it is a hardware problem?
Hey,
Do you use the preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba or is this your own installation?
The microphone is a part of webcam and therefore you have to install the webcam driver. You wrote that you have reinstalled the webcam driver but have you removed the old version first? You should remove the old version first and then restart your notebook. Furthermore use CCleaner (freeware tool) to clean the registry and restart again. Then your computer is ?ready? for a new driver.

Hello there,
My question is simple and straightforward. I was wondering if it's possible somehow to see the progress of volume in the display, when you change it using the flash keys (fn+3 or fn+4). That would be quite handy.
I don?t have this Portege but if this is not visible you cannot change it. Either it is visible or not. It is not known to me that flash cards utility has some additional options where you can enable such visual illustration.
This volume progress is visible if you use speakers option in task bar or using ?Windows Mobility Center?.
Hello,
im looking for AHCI driver for Inter chipset 6 series Win XP 32bi. I cant find any working. Tryed drivers from toshiba web, tryed drivers from intel web - was looking to google for 4 hours in 2 men. Its not working.
I cant have win 7 on it, because i have Windows NT 4.0 Domain controler and Win 7 is not working.
So, its simple, i have Windows XP instaled with all drivers except AHCI.
What im trying? Just force install AHCI driver (in Hardware manager) => BSOD appears, ill restart, get to bios and change from Compatible to AHCI. Than i got BSOD again, error is unaccesible drive or something like that so i know, i have wrong driver. Than i have to change back to compatible and try another driver. I tryed this way all drivers from package from toshiba support web and others from google.
I had a phone call with toshiba authorized support and they cant help me, because they doesnt know.
Please, can you, someone, help me?
Thanks.
Can't you just leave it in Compatibility Mode?
Otherwise, you need the AHCI Mobile drivers on a USB Floppy Disk during XP installation. Press F6 to specify a 3rd party Storage Driver.
Or you can simply install Windows 7 and use the XP Virtual Machine to run XP applications.
Hi everyone,
I have a Toshiba Portege R830-14M, serial: PT321E with Windows 8.1 x64.
I have a problem with this driver:
"COM7 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3D&SUBSYS_00011179&REV_04\3&115 83659&0&B3"
Searching in google I found that is "Intel Management Engine Interface". In Toshiba's support web I downloaded driver but when I install the driver, error: "Cannot find support device" appears.
How can I solve that? Where I download the correct version?
Thanks!
Hello everebody,
is it possible to configure toshiba fingerprint so that there was no need enter administrator password when I run some aplication by option "run as administrator" in windows 7.
I would like use only fingerprint (without UAC modyfication).
I know that it is possible in previous drivers without toshiba software.
My configuration:
Notebook: Toshiba R830
Fingerprint AES 1660 (driver version: 9.0.8.21)
Fingerprint Utility version: 1.0.3.54
OS: Windows 7 Pro x64

I recently bought a second-hand Protege R830 notebook with a Japanese keyboard.
It's a real pain. I want to replace it with an English one.
Can I do that?
Thank you.
I'm having big problems with two Toshiba drivers on my Portege R830 machine in Win 8 Pro 64 bit upgrade.
I did a clean upgrade on a reformatted hard drive, then went to install the display drivers and that totally crashed my machine out.
When I put in my login credentials the machine would do a force reboot.
Eventually I got into Safe mode (with Shift+restart from the login screen) and was able to fix that and remove the driver.
Then I installed the Fingerprint utility, just this week downloaded from Toshiba for my machine.
It was even marked as "new".
That actually worked, in a fashion, but it caused my login user icons on the pre-login screen to show up as duplicates.
Took me ages to figure out it was the fingerprint utility and when I removed that the user login icons went back to normal.
So now the fingerprint reader is useless to me.
Hoping for a fix soon.

Q. How do you get the little button bellow the spacebar to work on a Port?g? R830-13C laptop?
There is a button bellow the spacebar on Port?g? R830-13C laptop; that seems to indicate its ability to enable and disable touchpad. It does not work.
Pressing FN + F9 (buttons together [F9] has the same icon) - Works!
its built into the fn key functions using the toshiba flash cards utility. download and install the latest version of flashcards and see if that cures it
the fact that it works through fn f9 combo tho makes me think you have a faulty button unfortunately
for reference, mine works fine under both fn f9 and the dedicated button
do the two buttons on the top of the keyboard work? they are also flashcard controlled iirc?
Good day!
I've been experiencing the following problem on my Portege R830-10R for a long time.
Quite frequently, when it recovers after sleep mode it loses ability to recognize connected USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.
After some time, like 10-15 minutes of working (or never), the problem becomes solved by itself, but normally it is not the case.
If I try to send the laptop to hibernate or sleep mode again, while this problem is active, lets say, it does not hibernate and hangs on a half way with a black screen - so I have to shut it down manually and then start again.
Normally, the only way to resolve the problem is to restart it, but the issue comes back after next sleep mode.
Has anyone had something like that? Any solution available?
Hi
> Quite frequently, when it recovers after sleep mode it loses ability to recognize connected USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.
Did you notice this behavior from first day of purchase?
Are only special USB devices affected like USB flash memory stick or USB HDD or are
other devices like USB mouse or USB keyboard affected too?
After a windows 7 reinstallation, eco, presentation buttons and the one to shutdown the trackpad doesn't work, I've reinstalled all drivers, VAP and button support program.
Could someone with a R830 tell me wich programs is link in "button support" and if they're is some options indicated?
Thanks in advance!
Why did you open new thread about one and the same theme?

Would recommend following one thread in order to avoid misunderstandings.
I have a fairly new Toshiba Portege R830 (PT321E-01E00YEN) laptop that does not use built in speakers if placed in a dock with the Laptop screen closed or the microphone.
This causes problems when trying to work from just an external monitor but when I flip the lid open, it works fine.
I'm using a port replication II ( PA3916B ) and when installed about a month ago, all the device drivers etc was updated to the lasted available so I think there is a software configuration option that just needs checking or disabling.
Does anyone know where this might be?
I have testing this on another older port replicator that was originally purchased for a R700-15R and have exactly the same problem so I don't think it is hardware related.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
Please don't understand me wrong but for me this behavious sounds logic. When you close the lid internal speaker and mic placed near the cam are blocked so I don't know how do you want to use it.
When notebook is closed and placed by side it is almost the same as desktop. All devices you need should be external devices and connected to the docking station.
If you use your notebook on regular way but additionally external display for desktop extension you can use all internal devices of your notebook.
In my opinion the point of docking station usage of different peripheral devices with your notebook but using docking station you can remove notebook and take it with you without disconnecting each of connected devices including AC power supply.
To be honest I don't see there any problem. You can contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for opinion but I?m pretty sure the answer will be the same.
On a Protege R830-1GZ
1.
Wiped laptop with Debian install to solve a work related emergency while visiting family.
Return home and realise recovery media I had was for an old Satellite netbook.
2.
After a few attempts realise that the 'Win7 Home Premium' Product Key on the laptop sticker is just wishful thinking.
3.
I bite the bullet and try to buy the Toshiba "Recovery Media" which you retail for over ?40.00.
via : https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/
The only available language option is 'NH' not GB. This is not a new issue, from 2012:
https://forum.toshiba.eu/showthread.php?68751
TLDR: I have a wiped Protege R830; The Windows Product Key that I have already paid for is useless; Your 'recovery media' purchase web forms are messed up.
Can any good Samaritan or otherwise stealth Toshiba employee help??
Thank you in advance
Please help. I am new to the Toshiba. My print screen key doesn't do anything and I need to use it every day.
Thanks, Brenda

Sorry but i dont understand what do you mean exactly.
Maybe stupid question now but what should happen when you use PRTSC button?
The USB 3.0 of the Port Replicator freezes after about 10 seconds of using.
Actually Toshiba drivers ans BIOS (Bios Update 3.7 with mode 2) are installed.
Toshiba Support can't help.
Toshiba uses old Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller driver (2.0.34.0, 10-Feb-2011,
Firmware version 4015) for the NEC/Renesas Electronics uPD720200A USB 3.0 Host Controller. Maybe this is the reason? Firmware: 4.0.2.0, Driver: 2.1.36.0 are available at http://www.station-drivers.com/page/renesas.htm
Does anyone has no problems with USB 3.0 and the Port?g? R830-1EE with Hi Speed Port Replicator II?
Hi
I?m not Hi Speed Port Replicator II owner so cannot share my experience with you.
But as far as I know the Port Replicator II supports 6 USB ports. Two of this ports are USB 3.0.
Did you notice the same problems with two USB 3.0?
Did you notice also the problems with USB 2.0?
The Portege R830 supports the USB 3.0 too and its also compatible with the Toshiba Hi-Speed Port Replicator II ? so usually the compatibility issue should not be a big problem.
Folks,
I work in an area where there are lots of people who carry their Portege Laptops (mostly R830's) around while they're still on - mainly while they're moving from desks to meeting rooms etc, and often carrying them on an angle. I feel a bit silly because I insist on putting mine to sleep before I move it.
What level of disk shock protection is there in these laptops? Am I being paranoid or is everyone else inviting disaster?
Thanks,
Yokki
Hi
First of all its not really good for the HDD if the notebook would be moved while the HDD is in use? in such case the HDD read/write head would be affected while carrying along? but there is a software called Toshiba HDD protection which use an sensor built in the notebook. the HDD protection detects the vibrations and shocks and automatically moves the HDD head in a safe position to reduce the risk of damage caused by head to disk contact.
Here more details:

Recently purchased a Portege R830-138, however I connect get it to connect to our Companies SharePoint Service Site - I receive a "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials." message.
The laptop has full internet access and we can access the Server running the SharePoint site using the same credentials via Remote Desktop. Can also log into SharePoint site from any other machine using the same credentials.
The SharePoint Services is running on a Server with OS - Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2
And what say your company network admin about that?
Do you use your Portege with ?factory settings? or some company specific OS installation?
Hello.
First I'd like to say, that I've used my Toshiba Portege R830 with all operating systems since win 7 and I have never installed fresh OS.
That said, I couldnt use Intel WiDi on Win10 and had to go back to Win8 (DVD of which I have luckily bought along with upgrading).
I have installed all toshiba software using upgrade assistant and for the first time since 2011' there was no Flash Cards available (dropdown menu shown with use of Fn keys). I have used it for like 2,5 years on Win 8/8.1 and now its gone and is not available to install...
WTF? After a week I found out that Flash Cards isnt present in VAP 1.6 (only in 1.5.X.X and earlier).
Unfortunately I cannot install only Flash Cards standalone (or can I?).
And here comes my question: If I install VAP 1.5 (with Flash Cards), can I (ANYHOW) upgrade some elements (like system driver) without uninstalling previous version of VAP?
From my experience when I run VAP 1.6 installer first thing it does is complete uninstall of previous versions.
Please help me! I cant imagine who thought that removing flash cards from 1.6 would be a good idea...
Toshiba EU driver page provides the Toshiba Function Key Utility v1.00.6626.03 for Windows 8 Upgrade.
So if you installed Value Added Package 1.6.0130?. you have to install also the Toshiba Function Key Utility
Hi,
I have a Portege R830-1DU and i'm very disappointed with Toshiba.
I have the Function Keys working on the first month of windows 8. wherever, an windows update broken that to me and after that the function kys doesn't work anymore.
I reformated the pc, i tryied everything i found on the web but the only thing i found its the Value Added Package or the Memory Card Controller is missing. i tryed to install and reinstall all the versions but it seems to be to 32bits and no 64bit version. So i have to wait for next version of TVAP
Windows 8 has been released a lot of months and i think the problem is not to hard to solve.
Is there any another way to get function keys back to live?
Hi
This the 64bit of the VAP for Win 8
[Value Added Package 1.6.0130.640205|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=4&selSeries=362&selProduct=7399&selSh ortMod=3363&language=13&selOS=all&selType=all&year upload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode= allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=a ll&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=6&ID=84829&OS ID=42&driverLanguage=42]
the VAP is not notebook specific utility.
You can take this software which was released for other units too.
Within last 30 months I was using Portege R500 and R600. I had to migrate to more powerful machine 15 months ago - I have chosen Latitude E6310.
But I'm tired with its weight (2.4kg) so I'd like to change some powerful but light machine - R700/R830 looks fine for me. The question I have is about RAID: is it supported when you connect external HDD via eSata?
I have this feature in E6310 and I really love it...
Hi
According to the info on some Toshiba (Satellite/Portege) R830 specification pages, the notebooks support an eSATA/USB 2.0 (or USB 3.0 depending on the notebook model) which supports the USB Sleep-and-Charge functionality.
There is no info about RAID so I assume it?s not supported.
Greetings
Hi guys,
I'm having a strange problem with the model PT321A-01K002 regarding the 3G Modem driver.
I've tried every available driver and Wireless Manager from the Australia and European sites that I can find and it just will not recognise the hardware.
To clarify, we are deploying a fairly clean Win 7 64 bit build and at the end the 3G modem is the only device not recognised, it is reported in device manager under 'Unknown Devices --> Software Download' ... Strange, but 'Software Download' is actually the name of the device.
Hardware ID is *USB VID_0BDB&PID_100E* which for all my reading seems to be the 3G modem. No matter what I do, even a fresh blank retail copy of Win7 64bit can I get the 3g drivers to recognise the hardware.
I'm assuming I am installing the drivers in the wrong order? I've tried several different combinations but cannot get it to work! We are purchasing more and more of these with the 3G component and I need to be able to deploy our SOE to it.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance! - Matt
Hi
Did you try this driver:

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Portege R830 and was trying to find the support page for my model.
However on the Product Support list, where you choose the model, I can't find which one is mine.
My model is displayed as *R830-1056UB* on the box the laptop came in and it simply says *Portege R830* on the underside of the laptop.
There are several entries for R830 on the Product Support list, but *R830-1056UB* is not one of them.
*Any ideas how I can decide which one is mine?* (I'm worried about downloading wrong software/drivers for my laptop)
I'm not in a country with a support phone number and it seems Toshiba support don't have an email contact, so I haven't been able to contact Toshiba directly for help.
Thank you in advance for your time and help!
RG
Hello
I don?t know which Toshiba support page you have checked but if this notebook is designed for Asian market you should find it on Toshiba Asia support page.
In which country you have bought it?
Hello!
I cant download the driver from toshiba.eu/support/drivers/laptops/ for
Toshiba Portege R830 - PT321E
Windows 7 64bit
Location - Latvia
Download keeps failing sometimes from 10% to 50% complete.
Sometimes page is unreachable. Tried to download driver from different networks.
Thanks.
{color:#000000}I have a new Portege R830 with combined eSATA / USB port. It will recognise an external drive in Device Manager as Drive 0 but does not mount the drive under Win 7 x64. The drive mounts and works absolutely normally under USB2 via the combined port or any of the other ports on the PC. The drive runs absolutely normally under eSATA on a different Win 7 x64 desktop PC
Internet research suggests this is a widespread issue with Win 7, but given the above comment re normal operation on my desktop, strongly indicates that this is 'simply' a Toshiba laptop Win 7 x64 Driver issue.
One workaround someone had reported was to boot the PC with the drive connected. This does result in the PC mounting the drive but I have found to be unreliable - tends to freeze the machine unpredictably, though while connected it did show that it was transferring data at reasonable speed.
Searching these forums has not identified any solution...... Toshiba - think you need to address please !
Afetr all is a significant 'feature' on the Portege and rather defeats the point if unable to use......

Hi mate
Firstly this is a user to user forum? so don?t address the issues to Toshiba here in the forum but to other user from this community.
Back to your issue; Does this mean that the HDD connected to eSATA port cannot be recognized as eSATA device but USB device?
Please check if you use the latest BIOS version. On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the BIOS version uploaded at 29/07/11.
Furthermore I would recommend checking the BIOS settings; check if eSATA is enabled there.
