Question: Portege Z20T-B - Windows 10 - Sound Issue

I am interested to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Since upgrading Windows 10 to the latest Version 1511, Build 10586 released in November by Microsoft i am having strange issues with the Conexant HD Audio device.

The issue being when i am playing stereo music and i encounter a lower volume section of the music (i.e - strings etc) the sound switches from Stereo to Mono and when the volume of the track increases it again reverts to stereo. Sometimes it switched back and forth regularly which is irritating.


I have the latest DTS Studio Sound (1.2.41) for Windows 10 and the correct Conexant HD Audio driver from Toshiba (8.66.5.52) and this is the exact same driver/software version i had prior to updating Windows 10 to the latest version so the issue has definately been caused by the update.


To get around the issue i have installed the generic High Defination Audio Device drivers from Microsoft and the issue no longer occurs but i obvisuly can no longer use DTS Studio Sound with these drivers.


I am hoping Toshiba will be releasing a new DTS Studio Sound and/or driver to correct this issue.

I can't find any reliable info whether the z20t-b or z20t-c supports the DisplayPort Alternate Mode over its usb type c port. If so does it support 3840*[email protected] ?

Had a portege Z20t-b for 4 weeks, turned it on and had 5% left on primary battery, 5 min later it suddenly turns off and now won't turn back on. Tried plugging the power in and turning it back on. Removed the screen and tried turning it on and nothing happens. The battery light is flashing and goss solid when plugged it. Any ideas what my problem is?

I have bought new toshiba portege z20t that came with pre-installed windows 8.1 pro downgraded to windows 7 pro , inorder to get windows 8.1 pro againe toshiba company has accompanied 3 DVD recovery media for windows 8.1 with laptop and its written in instructions to switch from windwos 7 to 8.1 I have to enter bios change it from CSM mode to UEFI mode I made this and I put the first DVD in my External dvd and chose F12 then boot from ODD what happened is that Toshiba logo came in screen loading for long time with no further continue to enter /windows 8.1 installing option . in the instructions:

Changing the screen orientation
When operating the computer in tablet mode, you can change the screen orientation by roting the computer sideways. The screen orientation automatically changes according to the rotation angle detected.

But it does not go!
The operating system is windows 10.

What can i do?

Hey cant get my position with bing maps, here maps, oder mapfactor navigator, even GPS Information Apps cant show position when WLAN is off.

I bought this for Stand Alone GPS Features.
Updated Win 8.1 to the latest Updates. Still no location Service in APPs.

GPS is on in Windows 8.1 Settings, i allowed the apps to use the gps/position.
All latest Toshiba service updates are installed. Even with a SIM CARD i get no GPS.

Only in WLan i get a position..

So return this is it damaged? BTW must work tomorrow drive around the world. When its not working i must return it.

Tested here Maps und the windows maps app and mapfatorGPS.
none gets a fix when wlan is off.

In the description of Portege Z20t-b-xxx the “Assisted GPS” is mentioned.

The assisted GPS is part of the 3G module… so it should work using the 3G connection too.

When I go to input method panel in Win 10 I cannot choose inking as input method.
I have latest Wacom software.

How can I enable inking (handwriting) input method?

I also have this problem after upgrading to Windows 10. handwriting entry panel has disappeared and there is not way to enter data in Tablet mode. The pen works elsewhere but the pen entry option is greyed out in the keyboard chooser.

Hi,
I have a Z20t-C-15M. SN 5H071828H. Online specs says there's a battery inside the docking keyboard and a battery inside the tablet.
Battery indicators is saying Battery # 1 is not present whereas battery led indicator in the keyboard dock displays no light (nor white nor orange).
Battery indicators is saying battery # 2 present and led indicator is white on the tablet.
Is this a normal behavior or an issue ? Why can'I get the secondary battery ?
From the specs :
Battery Life up to 9h30min tablet only (Mobile Mark? 2014 running Win10)
up to 19h tablet & keyboard (Mobile Mark? 2014 running Win10)

I can't seem to fix this problem. The screen on my Port?g? Z20t-B2112 is just out of focus. It's enough to make you nauseous. Any ideas? I installed the windows 8.1pro.

Good morning, after using the Lenovo x61t for over 7 jears it is time to find a new one.

The z20t seems to be the only one which fits my needs:
* convertible
* track stick
* at least full HD display (and not a mirror one!)
* VGA
* native(!) Ethernet

The only drawback is the little ssd (max. 256) and that is only HDMI 1,4, no 2.0 (CPU limitation) or Display Port to get [email protected]

Then I stumbled over a Z20t-B-10C-SE with a 500 GB SSD ! Is this real or a fake? It was listed yesterday with 16 GB RAM, today with only 8 GB RAM.

If I'm allowed to dream, I would add these ones to the z20T:
* the third mouse button to the trackstick for scrolling (this is something I use almost everytime))
* Perhaps putting 16 GB RAM to the notebook
* HDMI 2.0 or Displayport - this problem is solved itself via an upgrade to Skylake which provides HDMI 2.0
* Having PCe-Lanes (one would be enough) in the dock connector
The last one enables to have more keyboard variants:
* the one which is offered today
* one with a ExpressCard slot (additional card reader, more USB ports, TV cards, special internet connection cards, interface cards for data aquisition etc.)
* one with a ExpressCard slot & second SSD/HDD bay (e.g. for a "cheap & really big HDD")

Additional, a "small & tiny" one for people for which every gramm is important could be nice (no, I prefer the "standard" one which comes with the z20t a lot over the tiny ones which comes with many other tables)... Read more

- The additional 3rd mouse button… well I never required such button on my touchpad… so for me such button would be useless…

- 16GB RAM… definitely big YES… but unfortunately this Portege Z20t-B-10C supports max 8GB RAM… this limitation appears due to the chipset/CPU

- Espress Card slot is could be a nice-to-have feature but I think this kind of interface is already more or less in decline…

Last April I bought a Port?g? Z20T-C 13Q (PT16AE-02J03LCE) and a Stylus Pen (PA5133U-1EUC), with the intention of starting to use this device (as in the advertising itself of the product is announced) Other uses, take notes and draw schemes.

Unfortunately, I saw from the beginning that the Stylus Pen did not work. I thought the reason was that neither the Wacom drivers nor the TruNote program were installed. There was no major problem, because I downloaded those files from the support page for my Port?g?. After installing them, my computer still does not recognize the pressure of my fingers, let alone the presence of the Stylus (maybe because I have chosen the wrong stylus).


Please: What should I do? How do I get to use my computer as it is initially advertised on the website? What Stylus do I need?

Curiously, on an Amazon website we recommend this Stylus Pen as Toshiba Portege Z20T Stylus Pen, and for that reason I bought it from the Toshiba dealer along with the computer.

Hello,
I've worked on many Toshiba portege z20t laptop/tablet and i always have the same issue: the screen feel slack on the hinge. If i put a little piece of paper on the hinge before connect screen it solve the problem but it's not a professionnal solution...

I?ve got a Z20t-B-10C with a 256 GB SSD Samsung MZNTE256HMHP, which is a SATA M.2 2280 module.

I assume, I could replace this one by any other SATA M.2 2280 module, like the new SanDisk X400 1 TB (also named SD8SB8U-1T00-1122 or SD8UB8U-1T00-1122, don?t know the difference yet).

Does anyone know, where I could also replace it by a PCIe M.2 2280 module (also called NVMe), like the Samsung SSD SM951-NVMe 512 GB M.2 (MZVPV512HDGL) or the Plextor M6e 512 GB M.2 (PX-G512M6E)? Do I have to look for the M.2 ?B? and/or ?M? key?

I dont think the notebook supports PCIe, you should get a SATA drive to ensure compatibility.

I own a Portege Z20T B-10C which is a rather nice machine, but has one annoying flaw: The screen gets scratched by virtually any contact. For example, I can't use the "emergency pen" for touch input or to write on the screen as it causes scratches. Also, the screen has already collected a series of scratches shaping the outline of the touchpad, i.e. supposedly produced when closing the laptop. Hence, you can't really use the laptop the way it should be used and I fear that a few months from now the screen will be filled with scratches.

While I'm waiting for my notebook shop to decide whether this is a warranty case or not, I wonder if anyone of you owns this model and has come across the same problem?

I have exactly the same problem. I've only been using the machine since July and already it's quite damages. Basically the screen rubs against the dock and I have the imprint in the outline of the touchpad. I'm concerned that they will soon damaging the images captured by the camera since the outline of the touch pad is right over the lens.


Toshiba is so far unwilling to repair this and I've included the response from my account rep below. Frankly, I was shocked since this is such an expensive computer and the cause of the problem seems so obvious. I was also disappointed that they didn't consider this thread when evaluating my case since it is the first result when one Googles 'portege scratched screen'.

I sent your email with the pictures of your laptop screen scratches. They replied back saying that the scratches are not due to a manufacture defect and there have not been another reports of other Z20t touchscreens getting scratches like this on the screen, so there is nothing they can do to replace it. Our Customer Service Manager will usually just make the call to replace it, if the laptop is with the first 90 days, which is 2 ? months past the normal return policy. He was not able to get the approval to replace it.

I undocked the screen from the keyboard without issue (using the "eject hardware safely" icon), but when reattaching the screen, it does not recognize the keyboard. Physical connection is 100%, but no communication at all. Usually it dings and switches from tablet mode to PC mode. Not this time. Interestingly, it DOES know that the keyboard is being charged, but only "Battery 2" is present.

Any ideas before sending it to the dreaded "Depot"?

I've got a z20t-B-107. Lovely machine, upgraded to win 10, all working fine - I had to download a new Wacom driver to get the 'left-click' to work with the pen.

I'm using it in tablet mode to digitise some data points on a map, and to sketch with the pen. However, when I rest my hand on the screen it 'activates' the touch screen and makes things go crazy. I really need to be able to temporarily switch off the touch digitiser and have only the Wacom digitiser running, and if I can toggle it on/off somehow that would be useful. Otherwise i need to use the pen in a very unnatural position to avoid touching the screen with my hand.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note which uses the Wacom type digitiser - it doesn't seem to suffer from this, as soon as it detects the pen near the screen it appear to switch off the touch part.

I would be grateful for any help - I've tried search engines but they only seem to give results about touch pads, and that's completely different...

I use a Z20t too (but with Win8.1) and have the same problem. I have decided to switch off the touch complete. It is not a good solution, but a good working with OneNote is only with switching off the touch functionality possible.
Maybe this is a possible solution for you.
In Win8.1 I switched off the driver in the device manager.

I found the following steps here:

1. Right-click and select "All Apps" at the lower right corner, then select Control Panel
2. Select Hardware and Sound
3. Select Device Manager
4. Select Human Interface Devices
5. From the list, look for the driver for the touch screen. This can be tricky since on my tablet they are all listed as "USB Input Device" and there are 3 of them. I found it by disabling and re-enabling one at a time until the touch screen stopped responding. You can also identify the touch screen by checking the Properties | Details and get the "Hardware Ids" then do a search online to see what the device is. In my case, the touch screen has the ID USB/VID_0EEF&PID_7302.
6. Once you know which is the touch screen, disable the driver and the touch screen should no longer work
Enable this device to make the touch screen work again.

Recently We order some model "TOSHIBA Z20T-C".Our company policy have to enable Windows bitlocker function.
I have a problem. I can't input bitlocker pin on screen keyboard when I power on the tablet or normal model .
Model "Z20T-B" is no problem.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Portege Z20T-C. I purchased it 6 months ago. After 3 months it developed a white ghost spot on the screen (approx 1cm across) which I now understand to be a pressure mark.

I don't actually use the touch screen of the laptop so I was surprised about this.

I wondered if any other Z20T owners have had this problem. Since I don't use the touch screen I wondered if it was a common fault with this model.

I did send the laptop back to be looked at under Toshiba's repair and warranty, but was told it wasn't covered and it'd cost me ?528 to repair.

I paid this. It took 3 months to get the machine back and the new screen has a similar pressure mark, just on a different part of the screen. Plus I have a lot of nice scratches all over my (was as new) laptop.
I suspect the pressure mark was caused by the engineer whilst reassembling the machine and pressing on the screen.

The Toshiba repair company say I can send it back to be re-assessed. They won't guarantee to fix it under their 90 day warranty - only to assess it.

I certainly won't spend another ?528 and wait another 3 months.
So, I've had a very expensive laptop for 3 months that's now pretty useless.
I can't say I'm having the best experience as a Toshiba customer.

Does anyone have any advice?

Hi

When I turn the display off, the touchscreen and digitizer are still enabled, so, if I touch the screen, the display comes back on. Any way to solve this?

Also, not sure if related, if I turn the screen off and leave it overnight, the battery drops by 25-30% in about 8 hours. Same thing happens when I leave the screen turned off for a short period of time, the battery just doesn't last. Not sure if its because the touchscreen and digitizer are still on.

P.S. Running on upgraded Windows 10 64bit.

ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set, Part number:4XH0L55146. this is the cap fits to thinpad x1 yoga.

since having z20t for the last year and half. I still can not find any other 2-in-1 to be better. this comes from someone who had previously only used the most expensive thinkpad models and updating every 1-2 years.

however, the trackpoint cap drives me a bit crazy as I rely on it most time as a 10+ year thinkpad user. it is tiny, needs a lot of force to move, and after a while, the surface becomes smooth and easy to slip.

I did tons of search and bought quite a few replacement caps to try, none worked. and it bugs me that toshiba does not sell a replacement either. so one day when the cap wears out or damaged, I would need to buy a new keyboard dock at least.

finally I found one that works perfectly, from no other than thinkpad itself.
ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set, Part number:4XH0L55146. this is the cap fits to thinpad x1 yoga.

It fits perfect into the space, right size recess to connect to keyboard, just a bit higher than keyboard surface for easier usage. It is also low enough that it does not touch screen at all (far from it) when closed.

more importantly, as it is bigger and have many dimple on it. it is actually much much better user experience. I would say now it would give similar feeling as the best thinkpad trackpoint now. no slip, needs much less force to move around.

The current driver in my computer is:-
Device Manager>Display Adapters>Intel(R) HD Graphics 5300>Driver>
Version= 20.19.15.4331 18-11-2015 Intel Corporation.

On the Toshiba web site,

And on the Intel Web site, Driver is 15.40.10.4300 28-JAN-2016

Now how is the Intel driver at 28-JAN-2016 version 15 and the one in the computer at version 20 but dated NOV-2015 and the toshiba web site says version 10 and says that is still current?

And all of this is because Firefox does not restore properly and also the computer does not wake up when I open the lid.

Hi

We have bought a Portege Z20t-C-121 to test it as a replacement for some of our senior management. I re-built it with Windows 10 Enterprise and installed all the latest Drivers from the Toshiba Website. The Intel Wi-Fi Driver did not work correctly so I downloaded and installed it from the Intel website.

The only thing I can't get to function seems to be the auto screen rotation; when I un-dock the screen to use it as a tablet Windows detects this and switches to tablet mode but, however I turn the screen it remains in the same landscape orientation that it was in when it was docked.

OS Version: 10.0.10586 N/A Build 10586

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this feature to work please?

hey,

i tried to install a toshiba Z20t-c-11g

OS: Windows 10 LTSB
Driver: complete

I tried to install the new BIOS from the drivers page on toshiba.eu.
That BIOS sadly does not work ...? Why?

Anyway... the problem i had and i wanted to have fixed is:

Bitlocker encrypted my whole drive.
it starts correctly and displays the keyboard.
GPO: Keyboard Slates (or something like that) is activated.
BUT: Touchscreen does not work. That means.. i can see the keyboard but it does not work.
thats why i wanted to update my bios but it says it is not working on my computer... well thats frustrating...
why offer the bios update when it does not work at all... or is it some sort of windows 7 only? cant imagine that tbh.

i guess the only problem is the bios but i could be wrong (z20t-b works on same settings for example)

Hello,

on a Z20t-B-10C with one minor modification (upgraded to a 500GB Samsung SSD, dropped recovery partition, but not the EFI partition), I have the following issue:
When the BestCrpyt Pre-boot screen shows up, I cannot directly enter the passphrase, but have to 1) hit at least one key 2) wait for approx. 10 sec. 3) delete the entered key(s) and then 4) enter the passphrase.
Thought it may have to do with a delayed interaction between tablet and keyboard dock, but a USB keyboard directly connected to the tablet, not the dock, shows the same behaviour. Trying different things in the Bios (switching to UEFI legacy, etc.), with no effect. This phenomenon is, according to their support, not known to the BestCrypt people. Operation system is Windows 10 64bit, all drivers and bios are recent.
Has anybody else observed this behaviour? Or experience with other full disk encryption which are compatible with a UEFI bios?

Hi,

I am running Windows7 64bit on a R700. When I connect the laptop to my flat screen tv using the built in HDMI slot, I do not get any sound being output through my TV.
There is nothing wrong with my TV or HDMI cabling as I use the same on my PS3 and everything works fine.

Is there a setting that needs changing or something? Is it a driver issue?

Hi,

I am using a Portege M800-116 running XP-SP3.

Problem 1:
Connecting Line-Out to a stereo and playing music w/ Winamp or WinMediaPlayer works fine on batteries.
As soon as I connect the power adapter, loud high frequency hiss and hum static disturbs the experience.

Problem 2:
Recording WAV or MP3 files with internal or external mic only produce mediocre results.
The resulting files include a high level of high frequency hiss and hum static.
Connecting power increases the problem.

Comparing playback and recording sound quality with my old trusted Portege M100:
My M800 is a not only low quality - it's plain unusable.

Problem 3:
Toshiba HWSetup does not start from Controlpanel.
Have tried un- and re-installing to no avail.

I kinda have this exact problem with my Toshiba M600 too, it was fine till now, the sound sometimes available, sometimes "No audio output device". I initially thought it was a driver issue that I didn't manage to solve earlier. So I thought of moving forward with installing Window 7 to replace Window Vista, I didn't erase any of the recovery partition just the main one. After it's done, the audio problem still persist.

I've tried it all, using generic window drivers, Toshiba drivers for Windows 7 and Vista. Latest audio driver from the audio brand, from latest to old. Formatted a few times, done it all. Even did a full system recovery to factory setup with recovery disc, the sound still sometime works and sometime doesn't.

I can conclude this is a hardware problem and not the driver.

Just my 2 cents.

Strange?. Very strange? I think it could be an hardware problem? I?m thinking about motherboard issue because the sound chip is a part of the mobo.
If the issue still persists even using the Toshiba recovery disk then an hardware problem is more possible as only a software issue?
Additionally it?s hard to say what could be wrong since this issue does not appear always but only sometimes and this means that it would be hard to replicate this issue?

?and therefore I think that this could be an mobo issue?

Hi,

I got a used Protege R500 and installed Windows7 Professional. But I don't have sound. If I open music, I see the green bar on the volume control in the tray rising and falling. So it plays sound but it doesn't get it out of the speakers or the headphone.

Plugging in the headphone is also well recognized by Win7. It also records sound. I tested in Skype, others can hear me, but I can't hear them. In the device manager the audio is listed with "Realtech High Definition Audio (With EC)". There is only one device in Device Manager which is not recognized (Unknown Device).

Can you help me please? I want also to use my new laptop to listen to music..

Are you 100% sure the sound is not muted? Check this using FN+ESC key combination.

I installed windows 7 Ultimate version on my Portege M400. all works except the sound.

There is a error in device manager under other devices - Unknown device - details hardware Ids--> ACPI\TOS620A. not sure if this has anything to do with the sound.

Hello all,

I've the sound problem with Windows 7 RTM. No sound playback at all, the microphone works fine and at the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Realtek HD Audio Manager detects whenever a microphone or headphone is (un)plugged.

No matter what driver I install and no matter what the playback source is (System Sounds, Media Player, Winamp and others), there's no sound playback on the speakers nor at the headphones output. The latest one I've installed is Realtek's R2.31.

I begin to wonder if this is going to be fixed, after all Windows 7 is going gold and there's no fix for this issue.

If you check this Win7 section you can find many comments but one general message is there: Win7 is not official released and Toshiba doesn?t offer WIN7 drivers at the moment. When the Win7 will be official released Toshiba will start Win7 support and I hope your Portege will be supported too.

That means Toshiba will offer Win7 drivers on Toshiba download page. These drivers will be tested and it should work properly. At the moment on Toshiba US support page you can download some Win7 BETA (not tested) drivers. If you want check it under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp

Did you notice some yellow exclamation marks in device manager?
If yes then this would mean that the sound card has not been recognized and therefore the sound does not work!

At the other hand you should check if MUTE is not enabled!

So that means that sound card is installed properly and you don?t have yellow exclamation marks in device manager?

Hmm usually with every program you should be able to listen audio? Regarding the flash videos I would try an update of Adobe Flash Player. Make sure you have installed the newest version of this program.

In Windows sound settings you can check the default audio output device. Make sure that internal speakers are the default settings.
By the way: Do you notice this problem with external speakers too?

I recently got 2 Portege M200 laptops but the previous users had wiped the harddrive's.
So now im trying to install windows Xp through the externel cd-rom drives that came with it.
But when its loading up the windows Xp cd it gives me a BSOD somewhere near the end of loading up the CD ( it always stops at "Setup starting windows" ).

Now i thought this might be a harddrive problem so i got a brandnew harddrive but it still didnt work (this problem exists on both laptops).

Now im wondering if theres some kind of special installation process or something of the sort for the M200?

I hope someone can help me with my problem.

Although I am now using 8.1 this problem has occurred also with previous Windows versions.

When I click on Restart, the machine closes down as expected, but does not fully reboot.
The Toshiba flash screen does not appear, although the Windows logo does.

At this point it hangs and the fan speeds up to full rate, with only the logo on the screen.
The BIOS version is Toshiba 3.90.
Fixing 8.1 issues often calls for Restart and I should be glad not to have always to do this manually.

The Windows 8.1 does not perform a complete shut down by default.
It access the hybrid shut down mode.
I think you should simply disable this mode in Windows power options
Maybe this would improve the notebook?s system functionality.

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar.  It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop.  But there's no sound at all.  I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10).  I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7.  to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer?  Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down?  I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defect... Windows 7 drivers are often required to be reinstalled and needed to get sound working again after update to 8 or 10.
It also has a volume knob with a switch that must be turned on. When you do that there is a white lite in the center of the sound bar that indicates power is on.

The analog out goes to the GREEN outlet.

I've just updated my Z830 to Windows 10, and keep getting the following error message:

The current Dolby audio driver version 7.2.8000.17 and the software application expects driver version 7.2.7000.7.Please install a valid driver and software application combination.

The driver is looking for an earlier version, not the latest version, of the driver.

I've tried finding an answer to this problem but the only thing I've come across is an earlier thread on this forum about a Z830-10U, with a suggestion to go to http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swup...=en&country=GB. Our model isn't listed, so the suggestion was to try the Z930. I tried this but it didn't work.


Could someone please advise on how I can fix this problem?

I've upgraded to Windows 8 through the Windows' website, as I didn't know about the Toshiba's upgrade tool.

I've run the ToshibaUpgradeAssistant.exe, downloaded on the dedicated page for my laptop, but I'm stuck to the ?PA number? form. I've got a Portege R830-10U, Part No PT320E-XXXXXXXXXX. But when asked for this very PA number, the software doesn't recognize the ?PT320E? (first 6 characters).

What do I do wrong? Does this software work with my laptop?

I waited until the last minute (literally) to upgrade from Win7 to Win10. During the wait I kept up with all the Win10 HP blogs. My HP all-in-1 printer works great thanks to the support blog but I am still having difficulty getting my BOSE speakers to sound as they did with Beats on Win 7. I have downloaded and installed the compatible IDT HiDef Audio CODEC driver but the sound quality is still poor. The "Speakers/Headphones" property sound setting is "24-bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)". I would like to adjust the treble/bass settings as before - I want my BOSE speakers back!! Any recent recommendations?Thanx!!

Hello --

After I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 Pro, there was no sound. Obviously, Creative Labs has yet to release compatible drivers for many of their sound cards. Nevertheless, I found out that I'd make it work by changing its modes back and forth via its Audio Control Center. I have to do this every time I reboot the system.

Do you think the problem is with the driver or Windows itself? If it's the driver, why world it work simply by re-setting / changing its option?

I purchased a computer via CraigsList and all is fine with it bar one thing ? I haven?t been able to get the sound working on it. I don?t think it?s an issue of being sold a faulty unit ? the guy selling it was the father of the owner, who has been overseas for a year and the dad simply wanted to clear it out to make some room.

Initially I thought it was a sound card issue, and swapped cards around and did virtually everything I could think of to make it work. Nothing. Then I went backwards and forwards trying to find if there was any program ob board that was muting the sound. Nothing. I looked at the device manager, which said that all was okay. I downloaded the latest drivers. I reinstalled Windows. I tried using the headphone jack, another set of speakers. I did everything to try and isolate and locate the issue. ! I still could not get it to work. With all of this I still had not even figured out whether it was a software or hardware issue. Needless to say, it?s been a very frustrating time. The only saving grace was that I finally managed to coax some sound out of the motherboard?s RCA jack, so at least I can hear something when I?m using the computer ? just not from the soundcard itself.

I just bought a Portege R600 (PPR60E) downgraded to XP because of company requirements...
Installed XP SP3, downloaded all the latest drivers from TOshiba Support, updated BIOS to 1.80.

Problem: I cannot get the audio working, it stays mute:
I've tried the official audio driver and the realtek reference driver and it is still mute.
No sound on the internal speakers no sound, on a headphones.

Any suggestions are welcome.

If yes, then remove this device from device manager (mark it and delete)

I don?t have a R600 but I had a similar issue with my Satellite notebook.
After installation of Win XP (SP2 only) and Toshiba XP drivers the sound didn?t appear.
After long investigation I found out that I have to install firstly the MS fixes:
KB835221 and KB888111

Hello,

I have bought a Portege 3490ct at eBay. All works fine except there is no sound available. I use WinXP SP2. I know there is a problem with service packs, but the same problem exists after installing WinXP without a service pack: It seems to be, that there is no sound device available. The Windows device manager only tells something from a "legacy device". I think it does not find the real Yamaha device.

Installing the new driver from Toshiba homepage only gives a "driver not installed" error message.
In the BIOS there is no possibility to deactivate the sound hardware.
Is it maybe damaged?

Usually the term legacy device is used when referring to any device that is not Plug-and-Play compatible.
I can only suggest why it does not work and in my opinion it?s a driver problem.
The sound card which is installed on this notebook is compatible with Sound Blaster Pro and Windows Sound System.
The computer uses a YMF744B. The YMF744B incorporates PCI audio bus master, 64 channel wavetable synthesis interface, AC-2 interface and AC97 CODEC control.
In you case I would recommend searching for the newest driver for Yamaha YMF752 or driver which supports the YMF752 chip.

Hi all,
I have a 3490ct which doesn't sound anymore. The sound card has a failure as it isn't no more recognized as in Dos as in windows. I want to repair by myself but I am not sure if the sound card is on the motherboard itself or if it is located in the modem board as I suspect. Is there anyone which knows the answer ?

I am not pretty sure but the sound card is fixed to the mainboard near to ?audio out? port and can not be exchanged separately. The whole mainboard must be changed.

I have no sound all of a sudden on Portege.
I was using it last night and it had sound then this morning the computer shut down half way through a task and when I booted it up again it told me it was installing 3 updates.

Now I have no sound and it says in the sounds menu that "no audio devices are installed"

Does anyone know where they went and how i go about getting them back again?

Generally a driver reinstallation is always advisable and recommended if an device does not work properly.

Therefore I would recommend reinstalling the sound driver. Firstly remove the sound card from the device manger, reboot the notebook, wait till sound card was recognized again and if necessary reinstall the driver.

On Device Manager I have checked drivers and hardware and it seems to be ok.
I have made test sound with Windows sound and it didn't work.
I have the sound toothed wheel in front of the laptop, no sound.

Ok, you already checked wheel in front of your notebook. Make sure it is not disabled via FN+ESC key combination.

The other thing could be, it is muted in sound options or level is set to low.
Got to control panel - sound.

Then there should be a green mark on the speaker symbol. Enter properties and go to level and set them to 100. Check that there is no red symbol over the speaker symbol.

I have Portage Z20T-C-11C. According to the specifications (http://www.toshiba.eu/laptops/porteg...ge-z20t-c-11c/) the device is using Sierra Wireless EM7305 broadband module and has Assisted GPS as special feature.

The manufacturer specifications of EM7305 ( https://www.sierrawireless.com/-/med..._datasheet.pdf) confirm the GPS and Glonass satellite system support.

Unfortunately I did not find a way to enable the GPS support. Haw can I enable the GPS on my z20t-C device?

I am a proud owner of a Toshiba Portege 4010 but the only problem I haven't been able to resolve is the sound.

The problem manifests itself when I use a MP3 playback program (Winamp / TRAKTOR DJ). The music skips for a very short period of time, maybe a 20 millisecond part every 1-2 minutes (aleatory timing).

I tried modifying every buffer option in my mp3 playback programs without any results.
I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 with all the drivers installed from the Toshiba website (including the WINXP sound driver)

The problem does not disappear if the laptop is running plugged in (best CPU performance).

If someone encountered this problem and knows the solution, I would really appreciate.
I use this laptop for background music playback (I'm a DJ).

It is not easy to say what the problem can be. If I understood you right this occur just if the notebook runs on battery power supply. Am I right?

I presume that CPU or maybe HDD activity interrupts the music. Please try to check CPU activity settings (Performance) in power saver tool under profile which is used if the unit runs on battery power supply.

It is also possible that some applications (antivir program) forced HDD activity. Please check all those aspects.

I'm a novice when it comes to laptops, so here is the problem: My 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro. Didn't have sound when I bought it with another operating system on, report says no sound device installed.

Does this mean I need to get a chip for the laptop or is it a driver I need & where can I find the part or the driver for this.

Usually if the sound driver was not installed you will get no sound but also a yellow exclamation mark should appear in the device manager.

If the sound card chip is damage I presume you will be not able to see the yellow exclamation belonging to the sound card in the device manager.

You bought this Port?g? as a second hand unit. Am I right?
So possibly the sound card is faulty.

The computer uses a ESS ES1978 (Maestro-2E) and ES1918 sound chip.
Check if you can find an XP sound driver in the internet.

I recently bought a reconditioned Portege 4010 and it works great, except that the sound glitches a lot. It seems to be random, can occur like once in 3-4 seconds or it can sound fine for a few minutes then *glitch glitch glitch*. It sounds like the tempo of the sound is slowed down and then catches back up, and it sometimes makes a popping sound.

I previously had a Portege 4000 , which made a little popping sound every once in a while, but it occured rarely, like once every 30 minutes, and was hardly noticeable. On this 4010 it is much worse.

I have all the official Toshiba drivers, running a tweaked installation of XP SP2. I have tried a clean install and the sound has the same glitches.

Right now i am using the ULi drivers i found on the Nvidia download page, they helped a bit, the sound bugs now occur more sporadically, but when they do occur (once every couple minutes or so), they are still as bad as they initially were. Also, the ULi drivers are the only sound drivers i could find that have proper volume levels, with the drivers found on your site the Wave volume distorts when turned over 20-25%, now i don't have to worry as even if it gets set to max like some games do, the sound won't be distorted. I had the same problem on my old Portege 4000, back then i didn't know about the drivers fix and used a volume limiting program to force "naughty" apps and games to respect the mixer settings.

Well, never mind, i fixed it. I found this great program named DPC Latency Checker, and it helped me determine it was the wireless card inducing delays and messing up the sound. I happened to have another card lying around, i replaced the one that was in the notebook and now it's all working fine.

The sound volume on my R500 (R500-11c to be exact) is ridiculously low. Only with volume maxed out (100) and using headphones do I hear anything at all, and even then it's way too low to be useful. I can just make out the test sounds in the left and then right earphone when using the test sound found at Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers (there are no Headphones to be selected) -> Properties -> Advanced -> Test. Unplugging the headphones I hear nothing from the speakers, due to the (very low) sounds made by the fan and HDD. Playing music (with headphones) I can just make out that sounds are being produced, but I can't even make out what is playing.

I've tested the things mentioned in the "Satellite 5105-S901 Sound is very low (even on max volume) using supplied Toshiba driver" thread with no success (including Loudness Equalization).

I'm running Vista Business 32bit, and have tried the driver_audio_realtek26117B.exe, driver_audio_realtek_TC00157600B.exe, and Vista_Win7_R243_x86.exe driver files, and also used the util_mute_off_25847B.exe utility.

Enabling mute makes the already faint sounds go completely silent, so I don't think it's a mute issue.

Jack detection does work, I can see that in the Realtek HD Audio Manager program. Using that program's sound test (Speaker Configuration) I have to go to a completely silent room, and even then I only hear something in the right earphone. I have had on-going sound problems with my laptop and feel so frustrated - please help!

I have downloaded the sound driver (abt a million times - and tried uninstalling then reinstalling) - and repeatedly get no volume icon on the desk top and a message saying "no sound driver can be found".

I did manage to fix it once - when i had WIndows Vista installed - by finding some obscure patch - but this time around - no solutions.

Can anyone help - it is so frustrating!!!!

My M600 just got a tiny problem (hope so) today.

The 'x key' doesn't function well. I need to press very hard on this key to show the letter 'x'. It seems the top-left part of this key is stuck so it leans to bottom-right when I press it. How can I fix this problem?

One year ago, when I had been using my Portege M400 for 2 years, it started deadlocking occasionally. Sometimes [I couldn't even start it up|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjNa8-c2Aro]. Using cut and try method I located the problem. The metal spring which clasps the heatsink to CPU was doing it with not enough strength:

The problem has been solvable by benting the clutches so the spring starts apply more force clasping the heatsink to CPU:

However, the solution works for several weeks only. And then (particularly if it is hot outside) the story starts all over again.

It?s really great that you are interested in your Portege M400 and you can disassmble it. It?s really not easy and so this can only be done from people with a lot of experience.

Anyway, as you know here it?s user forum only. That means you can talk with normal people like you and me. So I would recommend contacting an authorized service provider in your country. Maybe the guys know about this problem or something else or you need a special thermal grease because not all thermal greases compatible to all cooling assemblies.

By the way: On the Toshiba website you can find a list of all service providers.

My Portege R500 screen is leaking light very much in the edges and it is impossible to view anything from the sides.
Viewing videos is very difficult. Black is actually dark grey.

I'm not quite sure what could be exactly wrong. Possibly there is something wrong with the FL inverter? but this is my personal suggestion.
To get a detailed fault diagnosis an notebook check would be necessary.

Toshiba claims this laptop will run 8 hours and 30 minutes on a single charge.
My new (charged the system 6 or 7 times so battery is 'run in') barely lasts 4 hours 30 minutes with Toshiba Energy Saver option selected. Is this normal?

When I select hibernate (Sluimerstand in Dutch) with a full battery and a disconnected charger, the HDD light is on for some time an all lights go out (that is what I expect). When I want to turn the system on 12 hours later the battery is dead. When I reboot it on the charger the capacity is 0%. Is that normal?

Charging while using the laptop takes a full 5! hours, 4 hours with laptop switched off. Is that normal?

It?s always depending on the notebook usage how long you can work on battery. If you run applications they need a lot of CPU performance you can?t run 8 hours and 30 minutes on battery.

Portege R200 PPR20A - recently went to Toshiba service for issue with LAN network card, came back LAN network card is working fine now (was losing packets previously). Running XP SP2 Professional.

Now have an issue with installing an Aircard in the PCMCIA slot - before being serviced worked fine but since have not been able to install correctly. Have consulted extensively with vendor, updated drivers and device firmware (device works fine in other laptops). Have restored OS and apps from recovery.

Checked device manager and shows that pcmcia adapter is of generic type (i.e. Microsoft). Have uninstalled generic driver, downloaded and installed drivers from toshiba but install is not recognising the new drivers and hardware wizard adds generic driver back.

What am i missing?

Have updated BIOS to V1.6, checked status of all drivers and all are up to date.

This does not compute..

Anyone have any idea?

Hi buddy,

if you already did everything to make this thing working then you should contact the service center where you sent your machine before and tell them, that your pcmcia/cardbus does not work properly.
But before you do this, try that:
Download a linux live-cd like knoppix, start your computer with the cd and check if the same problem is under linux. I mean if the card was not properly recognized. Usually the card should be recognized and you should be able to use your wireless card (I suppose Aircard means wireless card)

If the card works then you should backup all your data on your harddisk and recover your machine. After recovery everything should work again.

Recently my boss bought a Portege R500 and I have installed Win XP SP2.

Installed all necessary drivers.

Problem is, if I connect an external USB HDD is does not detect it and as I use the laptop after removing the USB HDD every applications hangs up and it even wont shutdown.

Can somebody share a light about this issue?

I have a Portege M400 - core duo.
Until recently, it has worked fine, but now, after swiping my finger, it says 'authenticated' and afterwards 'not certified', making me enter a password.

Of course i no longer know it, since i have been unsing the finger swipe for like forever.
How can i solve this problem?

Hi

I came to know that the cooling problem on the R700 latop is due to a bad design.

To be more specific, aluminium was used to build the heat sink instead of copper as it is showed in the Toshiba commercial video (see below please). I sent my latop for repare and it is just arrived in Sommerdae (Germany).

Nevertheless I want to ask a a replacement for an other laptop out of this range if the problem heat could not be fixed definitely.

A friend of mine bought an R830 and we talked about the cooling modules performance on his R830 and we compared the performance and heat dissipation with my R series notebook.

My notebook is runs more quiet? we have compared the settings and I think we could find a workaround for this?

I have updated the BIOS is the past? and I recommended checking the Toshiba pages for newer BIOS. Indeed the new BIOS was published and could flash the BIOS as well?

Furthermore I?ve improved the power management settings in Win 7
Control Panel - Power Options - Change plan settings - Change advanced power settings - TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings - Cooling Method ... Here I set both options to battery optimized.

I also disabled the Intel Turbo boost technology in BIOS because I didn?t notice any performance boosts if this option was enabled? so I tested this with disabled option?
Last but not least the Toshiba HW setup seems to contains options for CPU? I set the option ?Dynamic CPU frequency mode? to first option ?Dynamically Switchable??

seems that notebook runs quiet and I?m pleased with that?

Hi everybody

I've been searching the net for a full day now trying to find answers to this.
Note, i'm an accountant and not a computer techie.

I have a Portege M700 laptop. I am trying to update from Vista to Win7.

Here is the problem:
- Initially tried to uninstall Toshiba HDD Protection through Control Panel and received an error message stating "internal error 2753 setupftc.exe" .
- Then searched the internet and realised that I was supposed to stop the service first. Note, i did NOT originally stop the service in Service Manager.
- Now went into Service Manager to look for HDD Protection and it doesn't show up at all.
- Went back to Control Panel - Toshiba HDD Protection is listed as a programme. It still WON'T Uninstall.. the uninstall wizard activiates, and after a few seconds it simply states the same error message i.e. ""internal error 2753 setupftc.exe"

- an internet search on this error yields no useful results. They only point to registry cleaner programmes. I did NOT install any registry cleaners.

- then i went to the registry and created a backup of the registry.
Then searched for all items with "HDD Protection" and started deleting them hoping this would work.
Then tried to uninstall.
The computer popped up a message indicating that a restart was necessary.
Tried to restart and got a bluescreen.
Then restared in safe mode, reloaded the old registry file and VOILA the computer is back to... Read more

If clean Toshiba HDD protection tool installation didn?t help then some registry entries must be screwed up.
Believe me, best thing you can do is to install OS again using HDD recovery installation mode - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm or use recovery DVD if you have one.
After clean Vista installation everything will work properly and then you can start with Win7 upgrade procedure.

I've had the 3500 for a few years now, but recently it's been overheating, to the point of turning itself off with no warning.

I've tried it in several different places, with very different temperatures, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any idea what I can do to fix it?

If you want, you are more then welcome to try and dismount the entire thing to clean the fan and put more paste on the processor etc. But I would say to take it to your local ASP and have them do it. The price should be near nothing, and it can be done fast enough. Chances are your fan is blocked with dust. For a quickfix yourself, find the fan grills and use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out. Hope this helps you out!

Hello,

I'm trying to fix an issue with this laptop (R930-157)

When i press the left arrow key, it prints a 6 on screen (notepad)
When i press the spacebar, it prints a / on screen, when disabling numpad the spacebar prints a +
CTRL + spacebar does print a normal space

This does not happen with an external keyboard, only the build in one.
I've tried disabling the touchpad, does not work

Issue reproduced on Windows 10 and Windows 7

Even in the bios the keyboard bahaves strange, the up arrow goes to exit (normal escape)

Tried updating drivers (first uninstalled, rebooted, installed new ones)

First we though it was about the keyboard, so we bought a new keyboard and replace the old one, same issue.
Any tips / suggestions / fixes ?

My keyboard doesn't work, though the alt and shift keys are working at the password login screen. At the login screen, the F10 light is lit.

There are beeps when the computer is started up. The first time I counted 14 beeps. On subsequent reboots this was replaced with fast, repetitive beeping.

The pen seems to be working OK. When in Windows, the only key which works is the Context Menu key. Clicking on that activates the Function 10 light again. Then clicking on Shift switches the light to Function 11.

I also can't get into the bios, presumably because the keyboard fails and the Esc key isn't recognised.

Any suggestions what might be happening?

It?s very strange issue.
It?s possible that there is a keyboard hardware fault.
The 14 beeps at the beginning are very strange and as far as I know it?s unusually on the notebook.
I would recommend to contact the Toshiba service.

My z30t has flashing amber battery light on the tablet but static white light on docking station when adapter plugged in. Undocking the tablet and plugging in the adapter makes no difference. Amber light still flashes. Left plugged in for over an hour with no change. Running Windows 10.

Portege Z30T not charging. When adapter attached to the docking station the docking station battery light stays solid white but the tablet light flashes amber. Leaving for a couple of hours the tablet light remains flashing. Disconnecting the tablet from the docking station and plugging the adapter directly into the tablet has no effect - the tablet light still flashes amber. All was fine when last used 2 days ago. Next use it wouldn't start at all. Tablet had not been detached from docking station for a couple of month.

I just got laptop Toshiba Portege M600 With vista pre-installed on it i upgraded it with windows7
but after upgrading it i got problem with sound when i shut down my pc it shows no audio autput is installed when in restart it it becomes fine then after restarting again the sound is gone and i can`t find proper audio driver for it anywhere plz help!!!
 

Answer:Sound problem with toshiba portege M600

Simple thing to do as you just got it so you don't have huge thing to backup or not at all simply do a fresh install of Windows 7 on your laptop. It is better to do fresh install rather than making an upgrade.

Also you may try to install the latest driver for you sound card.

I've got an Portege R700 from November 2010. Ever since I got the computer, the left speaker has occasionally been making a very loud, slightly scary noise whenever it is not muted.
It does this both when it's playing music (or any other sounds), and when it isn't supposed to do anything. It also makes the sound when the computer is starting up.

It's becoming more and more frequent, and by now I can't use the computer when the speakers are on at all. Someone has told me that it might be related to the hard drive?
Any suggestions?

Your notebook is not old and has valid warranty. Best thing you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider. Explain the situation and they can check this. If something must be exchanged it will be done for free.

I have just reformatted the HD on my Portege R700 and the sound through the HDMI TV connection (Toshiba TV) does not work anymore -through cable. Although the control panel shows that the TV speaker is the default sound device, upon connection no sound comes through when I either use the sound test or I play any MP4 file.

Could anybody help me on how I should rectify this?

First of all I would try to update the sound driver.
Usually the sound driver from the Toshiba European driver page should work find but the latest driver can be downloaded always from chip manufacturer page?
The sound chip is from Realtek so try the HD audio manager driver directly from Realtek page.

Before installing the new sound driver, you should uninstall the old installed one?
After installation be sure that digital output has been chosen as default device?
In control panel -> sound -> playback tab you can do that?

Hello everyone.

I have the mentioned notebook model and I'm having an issue with the battery gauge on Windows 10.

Once the laptop is charged to 100% and the charger cord is removed, the gauge never goes down. It remains at 100% until the battery is completely drained and the machine powers off entirely (it does not hibernate/sleep as it should at around 5% because it does not acknowledge that the battery is low, it still thinks that it's fully charged, I don't get any sort of battery level warning, it goes from on to off, just like a desktop PC would do if you pulled the plug).

Rebooting does nothing, the battery still displays 100%.

The only thing that appears to help is disabling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under Device Manager -> Batteries, uninstalling its driver and rebooting. Then the gauge displays whatever percentage of charge is left in the battery correctly.
Unfortunately that does not fix anything, because once I charge the battery back up to 100% the problem manifests anew, the gauge won't drop, I again need to disable the battery control, uninstall its driver and reboot.

Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody,

I bought the R500 at the end of august 2008 and since the beginning I got trouble with the screen of my notebook.

Indeed after two days of utilization I see on the screen an artifact like if something had hit it.
Of course not ;) so I called the support number to replace the notebook (less than 1 month after bought it).

I receive the new one, and I checked the screen immediatly. Perfect, no artefact and everything seems to be good ...

But since 1 month (end of november) I saw again new artefacts !!!! In fact, The artefact are really visible if you look not look the screen perfectly in front of me. Indeed in this position, the artefacts are less visible ....

So my first question:
- Someone else got these kind of trouble ?
- Do I need to contact TOSHIBA support to replace my screen one more time ???

... It's really frustrating to buy a notebook more than 2000 to a company which saying to had strong product, and have two times the same trouble ....

I've got 3 different Toshiba notebooks but something like this never happened to me.

I think you should contact the Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner) again and should ask for the notebook/screen check again.
It looks definitely like the hardware issue and the affected part should be checked and replaced.

I have a Portege S100-S113TD and I was watching a youtube video on full screen, when the screen suddenly became full of horizontal lines and the laptop became unresponsive - I had to physically hold down the power button for about 10 secondsto turn off.

Now it powers up but I just have a blank screen - is this the graphics card?

If so can anyone suggest where I can buy a replacement graphics card?

The current one is a nVidia GeForce Go 6200TE 64M/ 6600TE 128M - I've tried searching for one but maybe they are obsolete now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But are you able to test the notebook using additional external monitor?
If possible connect the external monitor and press Fn + F5 to check if something would be visible on 2nd screen.
If pictures on 2nd screen would visible, then the GPU is OK and possibly your internal screen is faulty.

I got a real problem.
I played DOOM95 on the Book and after a time the book crashed, winXP crashed.
Since this time i have strange problems with the VGA Card.
If i install the Trident XP4 drivers i get grafik problems in the explorer and i cant starty any 3d base programm.
For exempel 3dmark or Guild Wars.

If i use WinXP standart driver. I have no probs but also no 3D support.
I manages to set up the book without Cd-rom with a RIS server with a WinXP SP2.
Same problem again.
I hope some one has a sultion for this problem

Did you install the latest DirectX software? As far as I can remember the 9.0C version is the newest one.

After the installation of the DirectX, start this tool by using the command: dxdiag
There you should enable all features like Direct 3D or DirectDraw acceleration.

Hi - hope someone can help as I only have a few strands of hair left to pull out!

In the past fortnight a problem has developed with the trackpad - and possibly my keyboard. Here are some of the symptoms

1. The cursor on the screen will suddenly freeze. I can leave the laptop and it's working come back and it's not.

2. If I type on the keyboard (can just touch the keys or I could be typing in a document) and the cursor may freeze again. During this event the small 'mouse/trackpad' on/off icon flashes briefly on the screen. If I hit another key (literally anywhere on the keyboard) a number of times (no pattern to the number) the icon may cycle and the cursor will move and then freeze again.

It's as if every key on the keyboard is somehow performing the role of the FnF9 key.

Unfortunately I did take the laptop on a business trip recently and this time when the laptop booted - the cursor was frozen and no amount of considered or random button pressing got it going. It was a battery out job . That scared me.

If I connect a USB keyboard and mouse then pressing keys on that external keyboard does not cause the cursor to freeze. But it might do anyway - as described at 1. above.

The F9 key will unfreeze the cursor (I guess turn the trackpad back on) - but it won't be long before it cycles back off again.

According to your issue description it sounds like the touchpad would be disabled automatically.
As you already mentioned, the touchpad could be enabled and disabled using the function key combination FN+F9

Since you?ve got also some keyboard problems, my theory is that there is some keyboard problem which might be responsible for the touchpad ON/OFF issue.

What do you think about this theory?

I don?t think that there is a software problem because as you already reset the system to early time point (factory settings???). Therefore I think the software conflict cannot be the reason for that?.

Touchpad buttons problem. I have this problem since I have bought a computer. Right button of the touchpad does not work and Left button occasionally behaves like a right one. eg. If pressed at the desktop screen it will open a dialog window as what usually the right button does. Also double click is not working straight after the boot and it behaves like a right button again, so I have to press once and select ?open?.. it can be solved if I press ?Cntr+Alt+Del? end then exit with Esc. It solves the double click issue, but right button is still does not work.

I try to format my portege m400-105 with the recovery disk by pressing f12 and sellect dvdrom.
When i try to format by clicking next it tells me no driver found why?

Hi,

When you hit F12 to format the harddisk choosing dvdrom is the wrong option, as that is just a dvdrom and can not be formated. Instead select HDD or harddisk. Then format that. It should format with no problems.

Last year, I noticed that the battery on my laptop was discharging far more quickly than originally. From memory, when the laptop was new, with a full charge the monitor would say around 5 hours of use. It had gone down to about 2 hours from a full charge, so I invested in a new genuine Toshiba replacement battery. However, the issue persisted.

One day, when the laptop was displaying ?3%, 5mins?, I carried on using the laptop and continued for another 2 hours or so, before the laptop actually shut down!

I therefore arranged an out of warranty repair with Repair Tech, Toshiba?s authorised agent, found through the Toshiba website. However, despite a clear description of the fault, which is completely reproducible on each full charge, Repair Tech have returned the unit as no fault found, charged me for this experience, and are now suggesting that I send it back for another inspection. I am extremely reluctant to do this, given the experience with them to date ? not least being without the laptop for 6 weeks, only to have it returned with the same fault still present.

Is anyone able to identify the likely cause of the problem from this description and suggest a course of action to remedy this issue?

I had a problem getting the Toshiba Webcamera working in windows 7/64 bit. The driver installed, but in appeared as "toshiba web camera" under "universal serial bus devices" instead of under "Imaging devices" (see pics below). As a result, applications such as skype aren't able to use the camera.

My fix was:

Click on Toshiba Web Camera
Action --> Update Driver Software -->Browse my Computer for Driver Software --> Let me pick from a list...--> USB Video Device

Then, magically, the correct driver installed and "Toshiba Web Camera" appeared under "Imaging Devices" and skype worked.

This took me 4 hours to figure out, so I hope it helps someone else out there ;)

Well, if this issue occurs on a fresh recovered OS so it could be a something wrong with the keyboard.

I have the above Tablet PC and the Touch Screen is working intermittently,

The Stylus used is the magnetic one with the Right click functionality

Anyone Encountered any similar issues?

Have you installed the latest BIOS?

If the latest BIOS doesn't help, there could be a loose connection, or the system needs an update. An ASP can do this for you.

I've used the "SD Memory Card Format" utility preinstalled on my Portege M300 notebook to format a 2gb SD card (as per Toshiba's recommendation). The operation was succsesful, but the card can no longer be read (it appears to have a RAW file system). Furthermore, trying to put a FAT or FAT32 partition on it using the windows format utility results in a partition of just 1GB instead of 2GB!

The card had a 2gb FAT partition and worked flawlessly prior to using the Toshiba utility. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there anything I can do to restore the card to it's original capacity?

Are you 100% sure that this is a SD card and not another one like MMC for example?
The Toshiba utility supports only SD cards!
How did you format the SD card?
As far as I know there are two different format options:
Quick format - deletes only the directory structure
Full format ? the whole SD-card will be deleted
This utility formats SD memory card to the SD standard format.

The other possibility is that you have used the Toshiba SD memory Boot utility
This is a utility which can create a SD memory card to a boot disk. As far as I know this use the RAW file system.

I updated my BIOS to the version 3.6 and I swithed on TPM on the computer but when I tried to switch on bitlocker encryption, I was told that the motherboard couldn't communicate with the TPM.

Has anyone else managed to get it working ?

I have a small issue with my machine that I have been unable to resolve through my own troubleshooting and searching, hoping someone here could lend a hand.

My motherboard is the Asus ASRock M3A770DE. It features an on-board sound card, as most now days do. I am currently using the Optical SPDIF Output on the I/O panel for everyday music and videos, etc.

My problem is that when I plug my headphone/microphone into the requisite slots, nothing changes. The sound will still come out of the surround sound system and I am unable to get that to change.

Weird thing is, when I plug my microphone into the jack, it works fine. I have transmit fine and no obvious problems are popping up, so it appears as if the hardware itself is working as intended. I even wrote to Asus about this problem but the response I received made no sense at all to me (language barrier)

Essentially, I just want my machine to push sound through the headphones when I plug the jack in on my headphones, which up to this point has been a difficult thing to achieve. Anyone have any ideas?
