Portege Z20t - can I turn touch screen OFF?

Question: Portege Z20t - can I turn touch screen OFF?

I've got a z20t-B-107. Lovely machine, upgraded to win 10, all working fine - I had to download a new Wacom driver to get the 'left-click' to work with the pen.

I'm using it in tablet mode to digitise some data points on a map, and to sketch with the pen. However, when I rest my hand on the screen it 'activates' the touch screen and makes things go crazy. I really need to be able to temporarily switch off the touch digitiser and have only the Wacom digitiser running, and if I can toggle it on/off somehow that would be useful. Otherwise i need to use the pen in a very unnatural position to avoid touching the screen with my hand.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note which uses the Wacom type digitiser - it doesn't seem to suffer from this, as soon as it detects the pen near the screen it appear to switch off the touch part.

I would be grateful for any help - I've tried search engines but they only seem to give results about touch pads, and that's completely different...

Many thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Portege Z20t - can I turn touch screen OFF?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use a Z20t too (but with Win8.1) and have the same problem. I have decided to switch off the touch complete. It is not a good solution, but a good working with OneNote is only with switching off the touch functionality possible.
Maybe this is a possible solution for you.
In Win8.1 I switched off the driver in the device manager.

I found the following steps here:

1. Right-click and select "All Apps" at the lower right corner, then select Control Panel
2. Select Hardware and Sound
3. Select Device Manager
4. Select Human Interface Devices
5. From the list, look for the driver for the touch screen. This can be tricky since on my tablet they are all listed as "USB Input Device" and there are 3 of them. I found it by disabling and re-enabling one at a time until the touch screen stopped responding. You can also identify the touch screen by checking the Properties | Details and get the "Hardware Ids" then do a search online to see what the device is. In my case, the touch screen has the ID USB/VID_0EEF&PID_7302.
6. Once you know which is the touch screen, disable the driver and the touch screen should no longer work
Enable this device to make the touch screen work again.

I can't find any reliable info whether the z20t-b or z20t-c supports the DisplayPort Alternate Mode over its usb type c port. If so does it support 3840*[email protected] ?

I undocked the screen from the keyboard without issue (using the "eject hardware safely" icon), but when reattaching the screen, it does not recognize the keyboard. Physical connection is 100%, but no communication at all. Usually it dings and switches from tablet mode to PC mode. Not this time. Interestingly, it DOES know that the keyboard is being charged, but only "Battery 2" is present.

Any ideas before sending it to the dreaded "Depot"?

I own a Portege Z20T B-10C which is a rather nice machine, but has one annoying flaw: The screen gets scratched by virtually any contact. For example, I can't use the "emergency pen" for touch input or to write on the screen as it causes scratches. Also, the screen has already collected a series of scratches shaping the outline of the touchpad, i.e. supposedly produced when closing the laptop. Hence, you can't really use the laptop the way it should be used and I fear that a few months from now the screen will be filled with scratches.

While I'm waiting for my notebook shop to decide whether this is a warranty case or not, I wonder if anyone of you owns this model and has come across the same problem?

Answer:Portege Z20T: Screen becomes scratched by virtually anything

I have exactly the same problem. I've only been using the machine since July and already it's quite damages. Basically the screen rubs against the dock and I have the imprint in the outline of the touchpad. I'm concerned that they will soon damaging the images captured by the camera since the outline of the touch pad is right over the lens.

Toshiba is so far unwilling to repair this and I've included the response from my account rep below. Frankly, I was shocked since this is such an expensive computer and the cause of the problem seems so obvious. I was also disappointed that they didn't consider this thread when evaluating my case since it is the first result when one Googles 'portege scratched screen'.
Hello Eric,

I sent your email with the pictures of your laptop screen scratches. They replied back saying that the scratches are not due to a manufacture defect and there have not been another reports of other Z20t touchscreens getting scratches like this on the screen, so there is nothing they can do to replace it. Our Customer Service Manager will usually just make the call to replace it, if the laptop is with the first 90 days, which is 2 ? months past the normal return policy. He was not able to get the approval to replace it.

I am glad that you were able to get this laptop back up and running. Please keep that Business Technical Support number handy for any future needs, which I hope that you do not ever have to use it in the future. Please give me ... Read more

When I turn the display off, the touchscreen and digitizer are still enabled, so, if I touch the screen, the display comes back on. Any way to solve this?

Also, not sure if related, if I turn the screen off and leave it overnight, the battery drops by 25-30% in about 8 hours. Same thing happens when I leave the screen turned off for a short period of time, the battery just doesn't last. Not sure if its because the touchscreen and digitizer are still on.

P.S. Running on upgraded Windows 10 64bit.

I have a Toshiba Portege Z20T-C. I purchased it 6 months ago. After 3 months it developed a white ghost spot on the screen (approx 1cm across) which I now understand to be a pressure mark.

I don't actually use the touch screen of the laptop so I was surprised about this.

I wondered if any other Z20T owners have had this problem. Since I don't use the touch screen I wondered if it was a common fault with this model.

I did send the laptop back to be looked at under Toshiba's repair and warranty, but was told it wasn't covered and it'd cost me ?528 to repair.

I paid this. It took 3 months to get the machine back and the new screen has a similar pressure mark, just on a different part of the screen. Plus I have a lot of nice scratches all over my (was as new) laptop.
I suspect the pressure mark was caused by the engineer whilst reassembling the machine and pressing on the screen.

The Toshiba repair company say I can send it back to be re-assessed. They won't guarantee to fix it under their 90 day warranty - only to assess it.

I certainly won't spend another ?528 and wait another 3 months.
So, I've had a very expensive laptop for 3 months that's now pretty useless.
I can't say I'm having the best experience as a Toshiba customer.

Does anyone have any advice?

Changing the screen orientation
When operating the computer in tablet mode, you can change the screen orientation by roting the computer sideways. The screen orientation automatically changes according to the rotation angle detected.

But it does not go!

What can i do?

We have bought a Portege Z20t-C-121 to test it as a replacement for some of our senior management. I re-built it with Windows 10 Enterprise and installed all the latest Drivers from the Toshiba Website. The Intel Wi-Fi Driver did not work correctly so I downloaded and installed it from the Intel website.

The only thing I can't get to function seems to be the auto screen rotation; when I un-dock the screen to use it as a tablet Windows detects this and switches to tablet mode but, however I turn the screen it remains in the same landscape orientation that it was in when it was docked.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
OS Version: 10.0.10586 N/A Build 10586

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this feature to work please?

In the description of Portege Z20t-b-xxx the “Assisted GPS” is mentioned.

The assisted GPS is part of the 3G module… so it should work using the 3G connection too.

Last April I bought a Port?g? Z20T-C 13Q (PT16AE-02J03LCE) and a Stylus Pen (PA5133U-1EUC), with the intention of starting to use this device (as in the advertising itself of the product is announced) Other uses, take notes and draw schemes.

Unfortunately, I saw from the beginning that the Stylus Pen did not work. I thought the reason was that neither the Wacom drivers nor the TruNote program were installed. There was no major problem, because I downloaded those files from the support page for my Port?g?. After installing them, my computer still does not recognize the pressure of my fingers, let alone the presence of the Stylus (maybe because I have chosen the wrong stylus).

Please: What should I do? How do I get to use my computer as it is initially advertised on the website? What Stylus do I need?

Curiously, on an Amazon website we recommend this Stylus Pen as Toshiba Portege Z20T Stylus Pen, and for that reason I bought it from the Toshiba dealer along with the computer.

Thank you for answering my questions.

I?ve got a Z20t-B-10C with a 256 GB SSD Samsung MZNTE256HMHP, which is a SATA M.2 2280 module.

I assume, I could replace this one by any other SATA M.2 2280 module, like the new SanDisk X400 1 TB (also named SD8SB8U-1T00-1122 or SD8UB8U-1T00-1122, don?t know the difference yet).

Does anyone know, where I could also replace it by a PCIe M.2 2280 module (also called NVMe), like the Samsung SSD SM951-NVMe 512 GB M.2 (MZVPV512HDGL) or the Plextor M6e 512 GB M.2 (PX-G512M6E)? Do I have to look for the M.2 ?B? and/or ?M? key?

Answer:Portege Z20t SSD upgrade – SATA M.2 only?

I dont think the notebook supports PCIe, you should get a SATA drive to ensure compatibility.

I am interested to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Since upgrading Windows 10 to the latest Version 1511, Build 10586 released in November by Microsoft i am having strange issues with the Conexant HD Audio device.

The issue being when i am playing stereo music and i encounter a lower volume section of the music (i.e - strings etc) the sound switches from Stereo to Mono and when the volume of the track increases it again reverts to stereo. Sometimes it switched back and forth regularly which is irritating.

I have the latest DTS Studio Sound (1.2.41) for Windows 10 and the correct Conexant HD Audio driver from Toshiba ( and this is the exact same driver/software version i had prior to updating Windows 10 to the latest version so the issue has definately been caused by the update.

To get around the issue i have installed the generic High Defination Audio Device drivers from Microsoft and the issue no longer occurs but i obvisuly can no longer use DTS Studio Sound with these drivers.

I am hoping Toshiba will be releasing a new DTS Studio Sound and/or driver to correct this issue.

Thanks in advance

Good morning, after using the Lenovo x61t for over 7 jears it is time to find a new one.

The z20t seems to be the only one which fits my needs:
* convertible
* track stick
* at least full HD display (and not a mirror one!)
* native(!) Ethernet

The only drawback is the little ssd (max. 256) and that is only HDMI 1,4, no 2.0 (CPU limitation) or Display Port to get [email protected]

Then I stumbled over a Z20t-B-10C-SE with a 500 GB SSD ! Is this real or a fake? It was listed yesterday with 16 GB RAM, today with only 8 GB RAM.

If I'm allowed to dream, I would add these ones to the z20T:
* the third mouse button to the trackstick for scrolling (this is something I use almost everytime))
* Perhaps putting 16 GB RAM to the notebook
* HDMI 2.0 or Displayport - this problem is solved itself via an upgrade to Skylake which provides HDMI 2.0
* Having PCe-Lanes (one would be enough) in the dock connector
The last one enables to have more keyboard variants:
* the one which is offered today
* one with a ExpressCard slot (additional card reader, more USB ports, TV cards, special internet connection cards, interface cards for data aquisition etc.)
* one with a ExpressCard slot & second SSD/HDD bay (e.g. for a "cheap & really big HDD")

Additional, a "small & tiny" one for people for which every gramm is important could be nice (no, I prefer the "standard" one which comes with the z20t a lot over the tiny ones which comes with many other tables)... Read more

Answer:Portege Z20t-B-10C-SE - hardware specification question

Your “dreams” sounds good

- The additional 3rd mouse button… well I never required such button on my touchpad… so for me such button would be useless…

- 16GB RAM… definitely big YES… but unfortunately this Portege Z20t-B-10C supports max 8GB RAM… this limitation appears due to the chipset/CPU

- Espress Card slot is could be a nice-to-have feature but I think this kind of interface is already more or less in decline…

ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set, Part number:4XH0L55146. this is the cap fits to thinpad x1 yoga.

since having z20t for the last year and half. I still can not find any other 2-in-1 to be better. this comes from someone who had previously only used the most expensive thinkpad models and updating every 1-2 years.

however, the trackpoint cap drives me a bit crazy as I rely on it most time as a 10+ year thinkpad user. it is tiny, needs a lot of force to move, and after a while, the surface becomes smooth and easy to slip.

I did tons of search and bought quite a few replacement caps to try, none worked. and it bugs me that toshiba does not sell a replacement either. so one day when the cap wears out or damaged, I would need to buy a new keyboard dock at least.

finally I found one that works perfectly, from no other than thinkpad itself.

It fits perfect into the space, right size recess to connect to keyboard, just a bit higher than keyboard surface for easier usage. It is also low enough that it does not touch screen at all (far from it) when closed.

more importantly, as it is bigger and have many dimple on it. it is actually much much better user experience. I would say now it would give similar feeling as the best thinkpad trackpoint now. no slip, needs much less force to move around.

i tried to install a toshiba Z20t-c-11g

OS: Windows 10 LTSB
Driver: complete

I tried to install the new BIOS from the drivers page on
That BIOS sadly does not work ...? Why?

Anyway... the problem i had and i wanted to have fixed is:

Bitlocker encrypted my whole drive.
it starts correctly and displays the keyboard.
GPO: Keyboard Slates (or something like that) is activated.
BUT: Touchscreen does not work. That means.. i can see the keyboard but it does not work.
thats why i wanted to update my bios but it says it is not working on my computer... well thats frustrating...
why offer the bios update when it does not work at all... or is it some sort of windows 7 only? cant imagine that tbh.

i guess the only problem is the bios but i could be wrong (z20t-b works on same settings for example)

Any help would be pretty nice. Thanks ..

on a Z20t-B-10C with one minor modification (upgraded to a 500GB Samsung SSD, dropped recovery partition, but not the EFI partition), I have the following issue:
When the BestCrpyt Pre-boot screen shows up, I cannot directly enter the passphrase, but have to 1) hit at least one key 2) wait for approx. 10 sec. 3) delete the entered key(s) and then 4) enter the passphrase.
Thought it may have to do with a delayed interaction between tablet and keyboard dock, but a USB keyboard directly connected to the tablet, not the dock, shows the same behaviour. Trying different things in the Bios (switching to UEFI legacy, etc.), with no effect. This phenomenon is, according to their support, not known to the BestCrypt people. Operation system is Windows 10 64bit, all drivers and bios are recent.
Has anybody else observed this behaviour? Or experience with other full disk encryption which are compatible with a UEFI bios?
Thank you in advance,
Kind regards,

Answer:Portege M700, Windows 7 and touch screen

I think you should install the Tablet Driver from Wacom.
The driver is placed on the Toshiba European driver page?
The WACOM Dual Touch driver for the integrated tablet is necessary to use the tablet functions.

There is also the Tablet PC Extension Package.
This driver package installs a range of important utilities.
_TOSHIBA Rotation Utility:_ Set the default screen orientation you want the system to use when switching from PC to Tablet mode, or vice-versa.
_TOSHIBA Tablet PC Buttons Driver:_ You can dedicate tablet buttons to performing common tasks so that you can easily operate your tablet computer when you're away from your workstation. For example, you can dedicate a button to open a program or to change your screen orientation.
_TOSHIBA Accelerometer Utilities:_ These Utilities are a set of hardware utilities that work with the motion sensors built into you machine. With the Accelerometer, your machine will be able to detect the way you are holding it at any given moment. You can set the machine to perform a specific function when the unit is quickly tilted to the left or right, or to the front or back. You can also take control of the cursor in some applications and make it move by leaning the PC in a certain direction.

But all this tools are released for Vista? anyway maybe they will work with Win 7 too? check this!!

Portege 7020CT is known to me but I have never heard about ?7020ct motion touch? version. Is this maybe sold in US only?

Anyway, as far as I know this unit is not designed and supported for WXP operating system and because of that you can not find WXP driver. If you want try to check Portege 7020CT Model Homepage at US support page. There are listed many drivers and also support bulletins. Maybe you will find something interesting.

Hi all,

I was showing off the laptop this weekend and found that the touchscreen didn't appear to work (i haven't used it in some time)...

I went to the control panel to check if it was on and the Touch Settings Control Panel has a link that goes nowhere. It just throws an error and the control panel icon is now blank.

Now all i've done for updates to drivers is the stuff i've got from the Toshiba Tempro thingy... have they remove this function?

What might I have done to break it?

How do I fix it?

Many thanks all,

Answer:Portege M700 touch screen control panel gone...

Go to the Toshiba Website and install the Wacom Dual Touch Driver

Also update the BIOS and install the latest Toshiba Value Added Package (assuming you are using Vista).

If that doesn't work, you could try reinstalling Windows by running Recovery (hold the Zero key during power-up). Remember to backup your data first.

I have a Toshiba Portege 7020ct with a touch screen installed by motion touch and i need a driver it shows up as a usb device but motion touch no longer have the driver and claim toshiba do, I was wondering if anyone has it or can point me on where to find it thanks...

Answer:Portege 7020CT - Touch Screen driver needed

I presume they don?t know what they are talking about.

As far as I know this Toshiba notebook is almost 15 years old and this old notebook was not delivered with touch screen. Now it is modified and has nothing to do with original state.
Toshiba doesn?t support such modification and such driver doesn?t exist.

To check this you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and ask for help.

Hi, I have a 360 touch screen laptop (bought the middle of last year). The on/off button is placed on the side and usually 'clicks' when you press it to turn it on. I went to turn it on the next morning after using it the previous night, the 'click' that it usually made when you press it wasn't there. It was soft touch. I'm having trouble trying to explain it but hope that it can kind of be made sense of. This problem has resulted in me not being able to turn the laptop on. I was wondering if there was another way of turning my laptop on or if there is anyway of fixing it. Please help!!!!

Hi Friend. Don't worry I could understand the problem. What you mean is that the button on/off is stuck or locked and you need to press too hard for you to turn on or off. In this case you may need to take your computer to review to be repaired and can take off the button so that it works again. If your computer is under warranty and you have no way to open it, you better take it to repair so that you can help. I hope you find it useful information, you have nice day! Greetings. ^^

I'm an artist, and so using the pen for the surface pro 4 is a breeze and makes drawing so much easier, but it acts up sometimes. I disabled touch screen in Device Manager so I could draw freely without worrying about messing up the piece with accidental hand contact to the screen. Though it works sometimes, most always when I make contact with the screen it still registers, not fully, but just enough that it ruins what I'm doing. Please fix this or help me to fix it, I've got commissions to do, and this isn't helping at the least.

I have an HP all-in-one TouchSmart 320 PC, that is about 4 years old. About a month ago we went to turn it on and nothing happened. Originally, we thought it was the power source as the power supply box green light was flashing. We have tried 3 different cords and still nothing. Can anyone tell us what is going on? I do remember that before we tried to turn it on about a week prior to that I had shut down the computer, but it had updates so it was doing that but I never paid attention how it shut off, whether expected or unexpectedly. Can anyone help?!?

I have a problem using the Yoga 2 Pro with an regular external monitor while the lid of the laptop is fully closed. After about 20 minuts the cursor and other things start acting weard. I noticed that perhaps heat from the keyboard controlls the closed screen with random movements, just like as if I touch the screen. That means that i can use the Lenovo only opened, but on my clean desk I like to be able to use it closed (with my external monitor). So, id there a function to have the screen and the touch function deactivated while the laptop lid is fully closed?

Answer:Yoga 2 pro - How to turn OFF touch screen function?

Dear FranFlorida
Welcome in lenovo community
Kindly be informed that when you close the lid in any mode ( sleep, Do nothing, etc ) the screen is going off , as long the LCD is getting touched when you close it so it might be the LCD switch cable issue , but i would recommend if you can do the recovery and then check if the machine can work normally or not

I have an Inspiron 15R touchscreen laptop that will not turn on at all now. I've tried clearing the RAM. I've tried taking out the battery & attempting to power up with just the AC adapter & nothing. I tried plugging in the AC adapter while holding down the power button...nothing. My warranty ended in January, go figure. I put off servicing this due to health reasons and now it seems from everyone else's issues with this laptop that I'm "SOL." I bought this laptop just for creating graphic designs & editing photos & videos. I barely got to use the laptop to be completely honest and now I honestly don't know what to do. If I lose all of this work from all these past years, I can't imagine where I'm going to be able to start again.
Not to mention my backup Dell laptop is now also not starting. It doesn't recognize the battery, OR the AC adapter. When I tried to remedy that issue, Windows wouldn't start. So I'm out of options, & all of my laptops. My 3rd older version of a Dell laptop overheated, fried the screen, & all the necessary connections on the inside.
I'm now typing this from my iPad mini, a piece of equipment that has actually stayed reliable for me. I never wanted to admit it, but now I see first hand why people prefer Apple over PC's. I don't have time to worry about customizing every single detail about my devices & operating systems. All I know is that I need reliable platfo... Read more

I have Lenovo z500 Touch version.
My first question: Is there an option to turn off the touch screen? It takes a lot off battery and i rearly use it.
The second issue:
I have 8 GB of RAM memory, the constent state is about 45% memory use.
when I look at the task manager and I calculate the precentge of use by different processes and the amout of space they take in MB it looks like I have only 4 GB of memory.
For exemple, 800 MB use by the anti-virus is translated to almost 20%, somthing dosent end-up right.
I checked the hardware in Everset and in thesettings and they both showes 8GB

Answer:Lenovo z500 - High memory usege+turn off the touch screen

hi SolFine,
Welcome to the Forums.
There's no feature to turn OFF/ON the touchscreen but you can try to disable it via the Device Manager > Human Interface Devices (there are usually 2-3 entries here and one of them controls the Touchscreen > right click on it and choose disable)
As for the RAM usage, can you try open System Properties (Winkey+I > PC Info) and check the Installed RAM area,
- Link to picture
If it says 8GB (4.xx usable), the RAM is most likely being allocated to the Integrated Graphics Processor.

So I have a small 10" touch screen as a secondary screen and it is recognized and installed when I plug it in the computer. My problem is that the actual touching is severly misplaced and I can notuse the calibration tool (Tablet PC Settings in control panel) to correct this problem. It is as if the vertical and horisontal inputs of the screen has been swapped. If I touch the right side on the screen and drag my finger to the left I can see the cursor go from the top to the bottom and if I touch the top and drag down the cursor goes from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen.Installing the drivers from the manufacturer of the touch controller,, did not help at all. It just says there are no touch controllers connected to my computer. Is there a way I can correct this problem?

I have recently purchased a Portege M700-110 and am trying to use my finger instead of the pointing device.

However the calibration of the finger presses is wrong, since when pressing central to the screen there isn't a problem. But when pressing somewhere to the left or right the device completely misses the place where I touched and instead the cursor appears at the edge of the screen.

I've looked through the utilities but can?t see a calibration one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Touch Problems at Portege M700

Hello Andrew

Unfortunately I do not have this notebook model and can not give any advice but one info is interesting for me. According User?s manuals document Portege M700 is delivered with two different displays. One is DIGITIZER screen model and operations on the display screen can be done by using the tablet PC Pen only.
The second one is DIGITIZER and TOUCH screen model and on this display can be done by a finger or using tablet PC pen.

The question is: which one you have? Is there any way to check this? Can you please confirm you have DIGITIZER and TOUCH screen?

I have got an Portege R700 with Windows 7 64bit.
This machine is starting very slow after log on, in user mode only.
The System is waiting 1-2 Minutes before one can work. In the admistrator mode erverything is quick and fine.

So our adminitrators thought it might be the Toshiba Software and quite a lot was disabled or deinstalled.
Because this did not help and because I thought it migt be due to Kaspersky I started to reinstalled and update the Toshiba software. Most of it works now. Hotkeys did not work all, so I start TfcRst.exe via autostart now, even it would somehow be better it would be in "systemstart".

But still some keys are not working. The Touch Pad on/off, just above the touch pad does not work.
The Fn F9 does work. And the two keys in the right upper corner (ecoUtility key on/off and the Presentation-Key) do not work. On all three key I get a pop up saying "This function not supported".

Has anyone have a clue to this?

Thank you

Answer:Portege R700 - Touch Pad, ecoUtility and presentation key not working

Why you don?t try to revert the OS back to the same state before the admin has removed or uninstalled the Toshiba software?

Generally speaking the VAP (value added package) controls the multimedia buttons.
Also the FN buttons require the VAP and Flash Card Support Utility.

I have a hp pavilion touchsmart 15-n029so. Unfortunately my touch screen is defect, so 5-6 points on the screen is constant active. Until recently I managed to disable the driver for only the touch driver (not the screen) through device manager, but then a lately update for windows 10 activated the driver again. So now the 5-6 points is constant active, and I cannot login because the screen will not focus on the login field.  This means I cannot login to windows 10. Hi all, First of all, I know there were already 2 topics regarding this issue, but I have to create this topic because those 2 topics were marked 'Solved' and the solution there were not helping in my case at all. Symtoms:- In the beginning, it worked well even after upgraded to Windows 8.1, after some point, touch screen did not work anymore- There was a time that the touch did not work, I had to open the laptop 360 degrees, then put it back to normal so touch can work, but now it didn't fix the situation anymore- In 'Control Panel\System and Security\System', it shows that "No Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display"- In Device Manager, there is only 1 USB Input Device in Human Interface Devices (Hardware ID is USB\VID_2047&PID_0855)- There is no unidentified or conflicted devices What I have tried:- Install all Lenovo's drivers- Install old Intel Graphic driver- Reinstall windows 8.1- Reinstall windows 8- Disabled and enable all HID and USB devices- I lost the backup partition somehow so I cannot use OneKey Recovery Could anybody help me with this? I really appreciate all your help! I believe that there are many people had the same problem like me and have nowhere to turn to. Hope this can help them as well if it is solved!

That is what the problem is...and i cannot figure out how to make it work or what the problem is.

I bought a Toshiba Portege R30-A-196 there is 1 month. From early exhibits the same problem.

Occasionally, when I shut down presents the Toshiba screen saver, the message "shut down" and blocks. If i wait one hour didn't shut down.
Some times, if is in hibernate mode, do not resart.

After talking with Toshiba, i have installed factory softwere and the problem remains.

Seems to be a hardware problem. What should I do?

Answer:Portege R30-A-196 won't turn off, blocks

If you suspect that this issue is related to hardware problem there is only one way to fix this. Contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country as soon as possible and let them check your machine.
Your notebook is new with valid warranty so everything will be done for free.

Addresses and phone numbers you can find on

Good luck.

Hi there

I have a Toshiba Portege R700. Over the last day or two it's been intermittently showing the message battery power low when it's been plugged into the mains. This morning it did the same then shut down.

I've put it on charge but now it will not start at all if i press the power button (nothing happens). If I remove the power lead and press the power button, nothing happens. if i remove the battery then replace it, then press the power button, the fan starts momentarily and the screen comes on showing the 'Toshiba leading innovation' then it goes off. Hope this makes sense! I?d be very grateful for any advice or opinion.

Thanks so much.

Answer:Portege R700 will not turn on

What happen when you remove battery and try to start notebook with AC power supply only?

Hi, strange issue. But cant turn off the touchpad on a Portege R830 (Windows 7 32bit). I have seen this problem on both of the machines I have. This has never been an issue for the Tecra models I've had, M5, M9, M10, M11, R840 etc.

I have the latest Alps driver installed, from I have tried the button on the touchpad, this does not work. The Alps device cannot be disabled from Device Manager. I have tried the Toucpad properties from the System Tray, Advanced Tab, Advanced Settings. This does not have a simple "turn off touchpad" setting. It does have an option to turn off the touchpad when using a USB mouse - however, this also does not work.

Can anyone help with this? The only other option I can think of is the BIOS, but this would not suit my users, who may want to switch it back on again at some point while running Windows.

Answer:Portege R830 - Can't turn off touchpad

Hi liamw,

You can turn off the touchpad if you press FN+F9 key combination. The touchpad will be disabled until you press this key combination again but external mouse isn?t affected. That means you can still use an USB mouse even the touchpad is disabled with FN+F9 key combination.

Check this!!!

How do you turn off wireless communications when you are in an aircraft?
On my previous R600, there was a switch on the right side. But I can't find any switch on the R930.
There is FN F8 to switch on Wireless access, but there is no FN to switch off.

Did I miss something? Thanks.

Answer:Portege R930 - How to turn off wireless?

According users manuals you must use FN+F8 key combination to enable or disable WLAN (Airplane mode on/off). When small airplane symbol is shown on the taskbar the WLAN will be OFF. At the same time WLAN LED at the front side will be also OFF.
>...but there is no FN to switch off
Sorry but I don?t understand this. What do you mean with ?there is no FN Switch??

I just encountered this problem, it seems like an issue with the touch screen driver. When a monitor is connected via VGA and that monitor is made the primary display, whenever I touch the laptop screen, the click indication appears on the wrong monitor. Is there a driver update that fixes this? Who should be notified? What company made/supports the touch screen?

Answer:W510 touch registers on wrong monitor when touch screen not primary display

hey MRX,regarding this, really hard to say what could be the cause.curious to know, the external monitor which you are using, did it by any chance some with its own drivers ? also have you tried reversing and placing the external monitor as the primary ? does it make any difference?

Hi, I have the Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch, new as of april 2014, and since last week, the touch screen has stopped responding to touch inputs. Before this it has been working and behaving perfectly. I have tried to turn the laptop entirely off and on, reboots... No effect. The screen simply acts like it never was touch. The HID driver is present and claims to be working. I tried to reinstall it and it does so with no errors or warnings. I also tried to reinstall the monitor and graphics card drivers. The Tablet control panel icon offers a calibrate option but Reset is disabled. The calibrate doesn't help because it doesn't respond to touch. System says it has touch with 10 finger inputs. Windows 8.1 Update 1, Enterprise SKU Any advice is welcome. UPDATE! Touch works when I lay the screen out flat. But if I return it to any angle, it stops working. Is this related to LayFlat mode or is there a connection fault in the display for touch input so only when I lay it flat it has contact? Software or hardware?

Hi I bought a Acer ICONIA 6120 Dual Touch Screen Laptop in 2011 when I was in US. I returned to India in 2011. In 2014 the bottom touch screen virtual key board started mal-functioning. The keys will automatically click making it unable to use. I gave it to a local technician he disabled the bottom touch screen. He also said the Hard Drive is corrupted needs replacement. He replaced with a new 500GB hard drive. While replacing it he changed the Windows 7 home premium to Windows 7 ultimate. From then on we were using it with a wireless key board. Now I am trying to repair the laptop. 1) Where can get 14" bottom touch screen so that I can buy and install 2) Where can get the recovery disks along with windows 7 home premium Thanks in advance for your help

Answer:Acer ICONIA 6120 Dual Touch Screen - Bottom Touch ...

I suggest that you first try to recover the laptop to factory-fresh Win7 home premium by purchasing the Iconia 6120 recovery media. This may help resolve the bottom screen issue. If you aren't in the US, please click on support at the top of this page. Choose the country. Then click "get support". And then choose contact acer for tablets. You should then get phone numbers or email addresses for Acer representatives who might help arrange for you to get this media.  Jack E/NJ

My Ideapad P400 Touch with Windows 8 is no longer responding to right side swipe (charms bar gesture).  All other touch screen functions and gestures still work normally, including the left side swipe to switch apps.  The screen still displays the 'touch feedback' dots when I attempt the gesture but no charms bar appears! I've tried recalibrating as well as removing calibration of touch screen, and tried various other troubleshooting procedures I found on this site, like uninstalling recent updates, etc... Finally I tried running Windows 8 PC refresh, which worked as it's supposed to so I got to reinstall all my software but didn't fix the missing charms bar! Has anyone had a similar problem with the touch screen right-side swipe and been able to fix it?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!   Thanks!cait

Received my ThinkPad Yoga today - i7 ? 8 Gb - 256 Gb SSD - Win 8.1 pro ? One major problem ? the touch screen stops responding to finger intermittently. It always responds to the stylus. Updated all the Lenovo drivers and did Windows updates. When it stops responding, the only way to get it to work is by doing a shut down ( restart does not work ). Read the forums and disabled and enabled HID-compliant vendor-defined device. That did not make any difference. Is this a common issue and is there a software fix for it or is it just a faulty screen?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 20CDCTR1WW - Touch Screen not responding to touch - intermittent

Hi Waferthin,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Touch screen on ThinkPad Yoga.
To resolve the issue please follow the below troubleshooting steps.

Remove the Wacom touch gesture driver in the device manager and make sure to check "uninstall driver" when you do so otherwise the touch will stop working again a minute later.
And after that restart the system and the touch screen driver will automatically install.
In services.msc restart human interface device service to run automatically.

Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I have ThinkPad X230 Tablet. It used to have non-functioning touch screen. I did something, and now the screen responds to pen input, but it doesn't work properly for finger touch. When I touch with finger, only thing it does is minimize or maximize window. When I change position of taskbar (with start menu and icons), it doesn't maximize/minimize.  I think this means that when I touch with finger, cursor clicks at bottom right corner of display, where there is button for maximize/minimize window

Drivers all show working properly. Not intermittent. Tried settings and no help. No response when touching screen at all. Can't calibrate. Bios has no update available. Nothing in manual under troubleshooting. Any quick fix suggestions have likely been tried, but open to all ideas. If all else fails, and assuming the digitizer is bad, what does repair entail and any rough estimate? Is there any recall? I see this issue on the forum a lot with not many folks getting it resolved.TIA!!

Answer:U310 IdeaPad Touch :The Touch Screen Stopped Working. No Previous Posts Have Helped.

hi c2nah777,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Have you tried booting the system in Recovery Mode (One Key Recovery), You're not going to Recover the system since your only going to check the touchscreen in that mode "Outside Windows"
See if the touhcscreen works there,
If Yes, I would suggest doing a factory Reset First Before jumping into a hardware Repair.
If No, Then I think you're correct with the digitizer.

About 6 months ago I bought a Z10T-A-13Q for my mother. It has frequent issues of not turning on for hours.

Recently the screen stopped turning on. It was sent for repair and came back with a fix of "harness replaced".

It came on a few times so I made the long trip to return it to my mother. The screen fault is still re-occurring occasionally needing to be left for hours until it turns on. Then turning off and not coming back on for another few hours.

This is really hard to fix as I am far from my mother and Toshiba have opted for YOKO assistant my Mother can't navigate.

Has anyone got a faulty product replaced not patched up or a simple telephone number an elderly person can call?

I have a Portege M800 and the lights to the right of the power button will not turn off - even if the machine is completely shut down and power cable disconnected.

I have tried updating the VAP and BIOS by downloads and have used BIOS to switch off illumination LED and tried using Dimmer.EXe.

These have all switched off the Portege light itself and the light above the touchpad, but not the 6 lights to the right of the power button.

Can anybody help?

Answer:Re: Portege M800 - Lights wont turn off

First of all you have to ensure that latest BIOS is installed.
If you are using the latest BIOS then try this:

Please remove the battery and disconnect AC adaptor.
Then wait some time? two, three hours.
Then plug battery and AC adaptor again.

Check the BIOS settings (set it to default)
After that try to enable or disable the illumination again?

I just try to find out how to turn off the displays backlight on my new Z30t.
While processes still are running, just to save power.

Here I have FN keys for putting light up or down, but they do not go down to zero, and there is no key to stop.
I had 6 laptops so far, and all had a FN key to switch off the display for power saving.
So I am somehow scratching my head, how to do here.

Also, I'd like to reprogram some FN keys as I do not need FN sleep and hibernate.
Couldn't find info on that, too.

Some idea? Please help!

thanks, Tommy

Answer:Portege Z30t - how to turn off displays backlight?

You can use the FN keys in order increase and decrease the display backlight but you cannot shut off the display completely using these function keys.

If you want to disable the display after certain time, I would recommend you to change the settings in the Windows power options.

Go to Control Panel ->Power Options
Here select a power plan page, on the left, click Choose when to turn off the display.
On the Change settings for the plan page, choose the display settings that you want to use for this power plan when your laptop is running on battery and when it's plugged in.

It did this behavior from the beginning, without installing anything.(I only found that others have that problem too, but no solutions) Does someone have any suggestions to solve this problem?
