Portege Z10 stucks on blue screen - cannot log in

Question: Portege Z10 stucks on blue screen - cannot log in

My system had issues where I could not get into system restore as it was not showing up
so went to msconfig and I went to advanced startup and chose to start in diagnostic mode and on reboot it now just has a light blue screen.

I can move mouse around and there is no login box?

I tried reboot and hitting F8 but no luck.
Is there another bypass for this?

Please help!

Preferred Solution: Portege Z10 stucks on blue screen - cannot log in

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Portege Z10 stucks on blue screen - cannot log in

Switch on the computer, press and hold the "F12" key while the Toshiba logo appears.
Alternative you can press and hold the "0" key to access the recovery option.
Choose "HDD Recovery" and confirm by selecting "Yes" that you want to enter the system recovery.

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attac.../1/Z930_EN.pdf page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

Hi everyone!

I've got a problem.
I downloaded the BIOS Update from the Toshiba Hompage.

The update started correctly, but at the point "Flash new BIOS" at "Processing block 26 of 33" the update stucks!
I'm waiting since almost 2 hours, but nothing happens.
My screen freezes, I can't move the cursor, the clock shows the same time.... so nothing happens...

Is that normal?
I don't think so, but it's my first BIOS-update, hence I'm not really familiar with it...

Does anyone has an idea?

It would be great to get some help!
Thanks!

Answer:Portege M800 - BIOS Update stucks - Windows 7 32bit

Hi

This is different not a common BIOS update process?
The BIOS update should not take a long time.

In your case is it possible that something went wrong during the flashing process and the ROM module has not been flashed properly.
I think you are in trouble and in my opinion only the ASP technician would be able to help you.

The BIOS ROM must be flashed again using an crisis procedure and this can be done only by an ASP technician.

Hi,

I have a Z30-A-1E1 model with Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.

I'm having ad issue, randomly I got a blue screen and the notebook reboots, without giving error messages.
In the windows event log I can't find anything that clearly led to a cause.

I'm using a Toshiba Dynadoc U3 and I first thougt that it had something to do with it, but the crash happens even if I'm using the notebook disconnected from it.

Does anyone had a problem like this?
Any suggestions for debugging?

Thank you very much!

Answer:Portege Z30-A-1E1 - blue screen and reboot

Hi

I do not have a complete solution, but perhaps a step on the way.
I would first suggest to disable automatic restart when a bluescreen appear.
That way the error message will stay on the screen until the PC is switched off.

Read about how to prevent automatic restarts here:

Hi,

We've got two Portege R700's (part no PT311E-01G01JEN) bought 2 months apart, but both with the same problem. All our other laptops of the same model are running Windows XP and don't have this issue.

Windows 7 32-bit is freezing or blue screening continuously when connected to 3G using the built in Ericsson device. The blue screens give an "IRQL not less or equal to" message and creates a crash dump file that points towards an issue with WwanUsbMp.sys

Both of the above machines are using the standard Toshiba Windows 7 image that comes pre-installed. Both have the Citrix DNE update for Windows 7 installed [(see here)|http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1680845.asp] and Cisco VPN Client v5.0.07.0410.

One laptop is using the 3G driver from the Toshiba image, while the other has been upgraded to the latest version available from Toshiba.

The problem is persistent and leads to a crash after anything from 2 to 20 minutes when connected to a 3G network, but hasn't yet crashed when connected via GPRS or EDGE, although it did blue screen after the computer was hibernated while connected to GPRS on one occasion.

Forums for other manufacturers show problems with this particular Ericsson device which state to upgrade the firmware, but as it is an OEM device, the firmware has to come from the laptop manufacturer and Toshiba claim there isn't any available.

Has anybody else seen this issue ? Any suggestions ?

Cheers

Andy

Answer:Portege R700 3G - WwanUsbMp.sys blue screen

Hi mate

Did you try a 3G driver update?
You can find it on Toshiba European driver page.
At this time there is a 3G Driver v R2Y04 released at 28/09/10.
Please check if you can use this new driver

I have a new portege R400.

Randomly and quite often while connected to the internet my computer crashes to a blue screen which mentions some problem with tcpip.sys. The core dumps, which takes all of about 4 seconds, not much time to note the error :S. There is something like IRQL_ (not?) less-than or equal to.

I have the latest modem drivers as far as I can tell.

I have googled this to death and found many users of vista with the same problem, but no solutions.

I tried the fix for tcpip.sys but this has no effect.

No-one seems to have a solution... can you help?

Pleeeease?

Thanks,
Rob

Answer:Portege R400 - tcpip.sys Blue Screen Error

I do not know if this will help but check info about update for Windows Vista (KB939786) or Windows6.0-KB939786-v3-x86.msu.

Maybe this will help.

This is an error explanation - with a solution (which I do not like) and perhaps one of you know a better one:

This laptop was bought with Windows 8 in 2015 and then upgraded to 10 (automatically) last year.
It worked fine until yesterday, where there was a big new Windows 10 update.

When it restarted, I got a blue screen with the information one should rebuild the BCD.
I organised a Windows 10 DVD + an external DVD player and started bootrec /rebuildbcd

It worked fine until I confirmed the found system 1 - confirmed that with Y(es)
and got the message like: One device connected to the system isnt present any more
Sourcing the internet I found an information that this message can be caused by a defect UEFI
CMOS setting and one can set the CMOS of the laptop to default values.

I did that and then started again bootrec /rebuildbcd

This worked now fine - no more error message - and the system started fine again

... until .... I had the next automatic update from MS for Windows 10 ... I had to do the
same procedure again.

... now, for the wise guys of MS and Toshiba - do I have to live with that for the rest
of the time of this laptop - or is there a better solution

Thanks in advance
falther

Hi All,

I am using windows XP, well I was not any more due to below problem.

Laptop blue screened and now any time it goes to windows xp screen blue screen comes and reboot the system. Its not working in safe mode at all. Keyboard any mouse are not working. I cannot even go to BIOS.

I tried to plug a USB keyboard but still its same. I cannot even boot from CD.

Please could some one advise what do I need to do in order to resolve the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Nysoh

Answer:Portégé R500 - Blue Screen and keyboard mouse are not working

Hey,

How you can test it in safe mode if keyboard doesn?t work? I mean before Windows starts you have to press F8 key and then go down to select safe mode. Therefore you need the keyboard?

In your case I would try to remove the battery and AC/DC adapter for at least one hour. Then connect both devices again and make sure battery is fully charged. Start your notebook and try accessing the BIOS setup and load the default settings.

If Windows doesn?t start you have to do a recovery installation I think. Some Windows files might be muddled up?

Hi,

I've been getting random "Blue Screen of Death" screens in the last few weeks. The error is "IRQL not less or equal" and it's performing a memory dump every time. If I get the error and try restarting the laptop after, I usually get the same "Blue Screen of Death" screen when booting.

I didn't install any new hardware lately. Last upgrade was about a year ago; upgraded the memory. I've tried replacing the RAM with a spare one I had and I was still getting the same error.
I didn't install any new software in the last weeks that would coincide with this error.

I'm monitoring the CPU temperature and I doesn't go higher than 48 deg Celcius.
I'm not an expert but I would assume this is purely an hardware problem ? Since I rarely hear the CPU fan, I thought it could be the CPU overheating.

But even after making the CPU fan run at 100% using a freeware called "Speed Fan" I was still getting the same random "Blue Screen of Death" screen.

I would really appreciate any feedback and help. I really like my R100 and would like to fix it.

Mark.

Answer:Portege R100 - Random Blue Screen of Death (IRQL not less or equal)

It could be caused by a number of things:

Bad drivers or other software
Faulty hardware
Corrupted Operating System

Run Memtest and check the stability of the system. Even though you have tried other RAM, there may still be a problem with the Memory Controller or CPU.

www.memtest.org (bootable CD or USB or Floppy).

Have you tried System Restore to go back to a previous date?

Perhaps its time to reinstall Windows.

It seemed started from the automatic Microsoft update about Qualcomm Atheros, everytime when connect to any WIFi, shared internet, my portege R830 shows blue screen and the error message as followed:
system_thread_exception not handled (athwb.sys)

I found that I am not the isolated case on website. I tried to remove and stop the updates. However, once I connect to internet, the blue screen comes again.

Is the problem because of the network adaptor? The model is Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB
Can the problem be solved if I download new driver from Qualcomm Atheros website?? Or if I replace a new adaptor??

Answer:Portege R830 got death blue screen when connects to wifi or shared internet

Hi I to am getting the same error.

I think it may the graphic card driver or the Atheros wireless driver. Could someone put a light on it.

Hello - I have been trying to fix days for one week now. My laptop came with win 7 home premium installed, and was running great. Last week suddenly could not start after updates, saying "BOOTMGR is missing Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". The first thing I did is to repair windows and could not. I decided to go ahead and install windows 7 from scratch. I wiped all HDD, and create new partition (so I will have three in total, 100MB, 500GB, 480GB - I have 1TB Hitachi Drive HDT721010SLA360. )  I hit continue and finished copying all files. It got to extend win files and stuck at 6% - after a while got a blue screen and windows install loop begins. I try again, and stuck and windows install startups. Tries more and more, at various stages including BIOS first screen, windows load files, windows starting... sometime just loops, and loops. I am using USB to boot. The keyboard and mouse are wireless and require USB to be plugged on desktop. I am thinking the hard drive is failing, I run the SMART test on it (both short and extended) and it came without errors. I recently got HP diagnostic disk and run it - all test passed without any failure.  I am wondering what is wrong?  I did test win 7 32bit, win 64bit, and Ubuntu and none of them worked. They all stuck at certain point or infinite loops.  I attached some pictures.  PLEASE HELP ME!  Please let me know if you have questions or need anything.   Thank y... Read more

Hi All, I have a g560 laptop which i bought just a month ago and use it for my study and entertainment purpose. I have noticed that sometimes when im using the laptop for more than 2-3 hrs. It starts giving me white screen. Lets say for ex. when the screensaver is supposed to come up, I get a white screen or when I am shutting down the white screen flashes for two times or when I turn the pc off, Its stuck at the white screen even though the laptop is off. The only way I can get the screen is off is by taking the battery out and then put the battery back in. In the past one month I've got this issue multiple times. Any help would be really appreciated. I work for a branded computer manufacturer myself but bought a LENoVo because my brother has been using a lenovo since the last three years without an issue. Thanks in advance

Answer:Stucks at white screen

Maybe you need to update your BIOS. BUT WAIT!! If you do that, do it under DOS.

Please, look from this: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G560-hibernation-sleep-problem/td-p/224841/pa...

I recently sent my laptop (Equium A300D-13x) back to Toshiba to be repaired as it was overheating and cutting out.

It came back today and when I turned it on I got the screen where I was asked if I wanted to go into safe mode or start Windows normally.
Then it goes to a screen where it says, *Finishing the installation may take several minutes.

Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!*

I've been waiting all day now and I'm still stuck on this screen.

Has anyone had the same problem? And if so, how can I fix it?

Answer:Equium A300D-13x stucks on installation screen

Hi

I?ve recovered my notebook many times and the installation went always troublefree.
But of course such installation issue could happen always and I think you should simply repeat this procedure.

If you don?t have Toshiba Recovery disk then try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Just press F8 while notebook powering up.
Then choose ?Repair my computer?. Then a new window will appear and you could select the new option called Toshiba HDD.

Check it out!

Hello, when I turn on or restart my laptop (Compaq 6730b, OS Win7 64 bit), it begins to start, but after a few seconds it  stucks on screen with HP logo and label "Press the ESC key for startup menu". After that begin to flash NumLock and CapsLock diods on laptop - maybe two or three times. But nothing happens, although I press ESC or any other key. Only I can do is to turn off laptop and try it again, sometimes many times on an on till OS starts properly. I have permanently plugged in many peripherals - external monitor, external keyborad, mouse, webcam, speakers and I have laptop permanently plugged in charger. Maybe this facts could be cause of the problem, i guess, because when I turn laptop itself without any peripherals, this problem didnt appear. I'll be very thankful for any advice to solve this unpleasant problem. Thanks a lot. Regards miiichal

Hi,
Four days ago I installed BB flashback software but due to some problems I had to uninstall it and the installation didn't complete. After that day, whenever I open my Toshiba Laptop the windows vista boots normally but stucks at 'please wait while your system is preparing' screen. After waiting for a long time, I opened task manager, ended that running screen and then my laptops works just fine. I don't know what's that. I tried system restore many times but it always ends up unsuccessful. Later on I even installed BB flashback successfully and a new anti-virus AVG, but the problem persists. Any idea and any suggestions please???

Hello all,

I recently decided to upgrade the Memory in my lovely laptop.
I went online, found suitable RAMs and ordered.

What i got are 2 of these:
http://www.offtek.co.uk/ram-specification/toshiba/toshiba-laptop-memory/satellite-l675-10t/pid921300

Installation is very easy, but as soon as i turn on my laptop, it stucks in a black screen with a white underscore upright.

I guess its a incompatibility problem ?
Could you please help me out?

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L675-10T stucks in a black screen after new RAM upgrade

I think you are right? it looks like the modules are not fully compatible even if the online dealer page says they are?
You can remove the new RAM modules just to check if the notebook would boot up properly? I guess the unit will power up correctly?.

Solution??? Use another RAM modules? I made good experience using Kingston modules? they could be a little bit expensive but I think they should work properly.

Try running the Windows System File Checker (SFC)
Instructions: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If that doesn't help, try doing a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download
Note: Uncheck the checkbox at the end of the installation titled "Enable free trial of Malwarebytes PRO"

Hi,

I have a Satellite Pro C850-1FN and for some reason it gets stuck in a Preparing automatic repair screen on bootup. It will sit with the text on the screen and then after about 8 minutes a blue screen will show talking about a problem and then the PC re-boots.

The cycle is then continued.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite Pro C850-1FN stucks in Preparing Automatic Repair screen

Hi

It looks like the automatic repair isn?t possible.
Did you try another option ? HDD recovery?

The HDD recovery procedure would start new system as well as driver installation and would set the notebook back to factory settings.

I think if system repair isn?t possible, your next step should be the HDD recovery.
In case the HDD recovery would not work too, then you should use the Recovery disk.

Dear supporters,

Model: Satellite L775D-10W
OS: Win7 64 bit
Problem: The booting procedure gest stuck after "Windows loads data" and a progress bar undertitled with "Microsoft Corporation", resulting in a black screen and a moveable mouse cursor.

The same problem occurs everytime...
pressing F8 >> all options (icluding safe mode) >> boot gets stuck
Booting from Win7 64-bit DVD >> boot gets stuck
Booting from Win7 64-bit DVD >> all options >> boot gets stuck

Is it likely that the graphic card is broken or that the corresponding driver is not fitting anymore?

Thank you for your time in advance!

Greetings

Mat

Answer:Satellite L775D-10W - Boot stucks: Black screen + mouse cursor visible

Graphic card problem might be possible but in such case the POST (power on self test) would not be passed and in my opinion it would not be possible to access the BIOS.

However, this is just a theory?
Try to boot the notebook using some Live CD like Linux

I would also recommend you to start the advanced boot menu. (pressing F8) and to choose Repair my Computer option.
Then choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?

This option would recover the notebook back to factory settings.

My laptop is able to boot up normally. But when I want to log in to my account, it stucks at "Loading your personal settings" screen. I waited for quite sometime but it is still stuck there and my profile is not uploaded. I tried many times. But discovered I am able to log in to administrator account and use it without problems. I had even done a system restore but it does not solve the problem. It was working fine till now. I had this problem before and had to reformat it. But I do not want to. Is there any way to solve this problem? Please help. I really need to access to this account.

Answer:Screen stucks at "Loading your personal settings". HELP please!!!

If you can log in to the administrator account then you should be able to resolve this.Log in as the admin, then openC:\Documents and Settings\your.usernameSelect Tools > Folder Options > View Select "Show hidden files and folders"This folder contains all the information relating to your account. For the time being, you can access files this way.To resolve the problem, I would try renaming the folders in C:\Documents and Settings\your.username one at a time. Then log off, and try logging on again.eg. Rename "Application Data" to "Application Data Old"Log off administratorLog on as your.usernameIf this failsLog on as administratorRename "C:\Documents and Settings\your.username\application data old" back to C:\Documents and Settings\your.username\application dataRepeat this process for each folder.

Answer:USB 2.0 blue screens on Portege R100

HI,

does it care which USB 2.0 Device you in connect in which USB 2.0 port? Or has only one port a malfunction?

You can check the Device Manager entry for USB host adapter! Look if these drivers are installed in a proper way!
Did the USB 2.0 Ports work in the past? What happened or what have you done that the USB 2.0 functionality disappeared?

My Lenovo U410 stucks at the Lenovo Logo screen with the white dots, after a few minutes the screen goes blank and the same process of stucking at the lenovo logo screen continues. Some time this goes a bit further and stucks at the screen with "Reparing Drive 100% complete". But the laptop never boots with windows 8, it either stucks with lenovo logo or the Reparing Drive screen. Any idea whats going wrong, or any ideas to solve the problem.

Tried to boot with the DVD consisting of windows 8, strangley even if I change the boot order to the CD Drive, The laptop doesn't boot with the CD drive it still tries to boot from the Hard Disk. Also tried selecting to boot from the CD Drive after pressing fn + F12 after powering on the laptop, But strangley the laptop still tries to boot from the hard disk only. Then I have changed the Boot Mode in BIOS to the Legacy mode from the UEFI mode and the boot priority to legacy first. Then the laptop boots from the Cd drive. Why is this, Is it required to set the boot mode to legacy for booting from the external CD drive...?

There is nothing obvious in your scan that would cause your "blue screen" problem.
Have you checked the Windows "Event Viewer" to see what program(s) is causing the problem. To view the event's log go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools and double click "event viewer" and look for error events which are denoted by a red circle with a white cross. You can double click an Item for an explanation of what went wrong.

Hubbys computer we bought used, a Compaq EVO ... after getting a blue screen but NOT the normal blue screen of death - this one had a bunch of stuff on it INCLUDING something that said "If this is the first time you are getting this screen, shut down your computer and reboot it" Well I did not get a chance to finish reading everything on the screen as I had a 'call of nature' to answer, he shut it down. Now the tower will not run. We changed out the Video card and HDD with new ones, I checked the ethernet card, and the lights work for everything but there is no signal going from the tower to the monitor. Yes I even checked the monitor to make sure it is working and it is fine. Now we are sitting here with a half-dead tower thinking that Blue screen was a virus of some kind that is blocking signal from motherboard to monitor. The lights for the CDRW and Floppy both come on when we turn on the computer but that is about it. Anyone have ANY ideas? We do not have a restore CD for it as we bought it 'used, but re-furbished to working condition'. It is an old Compaq Evo, that is running Windows XP Pro on it, and we are hooked to a cable modem for high speed internet through Cox, if that is any help. All of this happened the same day I was getting the last of the graphics drivers I needed for MY computer that got hacked with the hacker dropping a packet of a trojan set with a browser hijacker in it.

Answer:Blue Screen but NOT normal Blue Death screen ...

That is a normal blue screen of death with the "If this is the first time...". The BSOD could have occurred because something failed, and now you can no longer turn on the machine. I would request a refund if possible. You've been helped by a 14 year old.

Hi there,

Sometimes, when I open the lid and start the computer, screen is shaking on all sites. sometimes it's takes only few seconds, but sometimes the screen is shaking constantly. I can't normally work, restart helps, but not always.
I have the newest drivers, all updates.
Does anyone has any problems like this, knows how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Portege Z30-B-119 - shaking screen

To be honest this is the first time that I have read about such issue… it sounds really strange because it seems that this problem does not appear always…
It’s always difficult to troubleshoot the issues especially if they don’t appear always but only sometimes…

I think first of all you should check if the same display problem would be visible on external screen (2nd external monitor, LCD TV, etc…)
If the same problem will not occur on 2nd display, then we can assume that there is something wrong with the internal display panel or maybe the connection between the internal display and the motherboard.

As you see, some more tests are necessary to get more details about possible troublemakers.

my portege r100's fan is not working anymore and i wonder do the service change only fan or mainboard totaly...and my screen has 24 dead colour pixels what do i have to do
kind regards

Answer:Portege R100: fan and screen

Hi Murat,

In my experience repairers will take the fastest option for them rather than the cheapest for you. So if your fan can be replaced easily without changing the main board then that is what they will do.

With regard to your dead pixels the only real solution is to replace the screen.

I think this is a job more suited to a Service Agent,

Answer:How to replace screen on Portege 3500

Hey mate,

First of all I have to say that screen replacement and generally notebook disassembling is pretty complicated and tricky. You have to remove a lot of screws you have to be very careful. So it?s not easy to replace the screen.
Maybe you can find some detailed instructions if you search with Google?

And a replacement screen or number you can get from your authorized service provider. Just contact the guys and ask for that, they will help you and can exchange the screen too.

Hi,

I've just got a Portege 3505 and its been working fine - until this morning. Now when I try to turn it on, all I get is a black screen - although the power light glows green and the corresponding AC and Battery lights function. As far as I can tell, there's no disk activity - but the Fn key still activates the little green light (although the caps lock key doesn't seem to do anything).

Any thoughts?

Mark.

Answer:Black Screen on Portege 3505

Hi Mark

Well, I can only give your mine suggestion.
It could be a display fault or the motherboard malfunction. I assume you can not see anything. No error messages and no windows start page.
I suggest to contact the service in your country.

I,ve just got two of these and they both have marks behind the screen. Almost looks like mould or a spillage on the inside of the surface, they are not electronic type marks ( dead pixels etc ). Can I access the back side of the front surface by dismantling the lid or is this part of some sort of sealed unit.

I can not post my error. It keeps coming up with profanity.

MY ink is not working on my Portege M200.

First of all tab-tip stopped working with the error 'has encountered an error and needs to close' every time I wanted to use it.

I didn't bother with that as I could still use journal and one note so it didn't bother me but I???ve recently discovered that I can no longer use my p(e)n on my screen at all.

It works on the side buttons that I hover over and the option comes up and I can select but it doesn't even move the cursor around my screen anymore.

is this normal for this laptop?

Answer:Portege R700 - Screen Query

Hello

Without seeing your problem it?s very hard to say if it?s normal or not but if you use the native screen resolution of your notebook the display should show the desktop in fullscreen without any black borders.

In your case I would contact an authorized service provider in your country. The guys can check your notebook and give you an official answer what to do now. Furthermore if your notebook is under warranty such repair would be for free. :)

Hello

I presume you need something like this . Use ?Portege M200 LCD mask? as searched term in Google and you will find online shops where you can order new part.

What to say about replacement. Following maintenance manuals you can exchange it alone but those manuals is not public document and I really do not believe you can find it somewhere on the net. But you can try. Google a little bit around. Maybe you will find something that can help you with replacement.

Hi -

i need some advice.
Just bought an R830-138. Have to say - I'm not overly impressed with it so far [had an M300 before which was great] - and there is out stand-out issue I'd like some advice on.

When running on battery or mains - and when the screen brightness is turned down to any of the three lower levels - when I track the cursor across the screen - there is a gentle fl1cker present.
This only happens or the first few seconds after I move the cursor - then it stops.
It's then fine unless I leave the laptop alone for a few minutes - then once again - I get the fl1ckering for the first few seconds when I move the cursor.

It's very distracting.

I see that the latest BIOS [which I haven't applied yet] is supposed to cure a fluctuation when using an external monitor [obvously not the case with me].

I have updated the Intel screen drivers [to the latest versions] - but again - no cure.

When the screen is set to higher levels of brightness - the fl1cker does not appear to be there.
However it may simply be masked by the greater brightness.

I don't think my eyes are especially sensitive - but it is an awful distraction.

I did wonder if it is a power settings issue - where the laptop is trying to be smart and adjust power/screen brightness automatically. So I have altered the standard settings [and renamed it]. I have turned-off the Toshiba eco utility. All with no sucess.

Any ideas anybody?
If this is normal behaviour - I'm no... Read more

Answer:Portege R830 - Screen Issues

> When the screen is set to higher levels of brightness - the fl1cker does not appear to be there.
> However it may simply be masked by the greater brightness.

So in such case I would say this has nothing to do with the BIOS, display driver or any other software.
It?s really hard to say what could cause such flickering?
But fact is that for most displays (but not all) the FL inverter controls the backlight and maybe the faulty FL inverter causes this?

However this is only the suggestion so I think you should get in contact with your ASP (service partner) and a technician should check this? that?s my personal opinion?

I am looking to purchase a new replacement screen for my Toshiba Portege - here in Australia they can cost way over $500 and in the US $100 range. Hiya

I have owned my M700 for 2 years now, and I use it in tablet mode with the pen all the time, and probably on average for 8 hours every day! So my screen is now a mess of scratches and pits and I doubt it will last much longer. I tried a " replacement laptop screens" web site but they referred me to Toshiba. I've emailed Toshiba but no answer as yet. So, does anyone know - can the screen be replaced on an M700, whilst maintaining the pen function? If so, how much and where, and is it diy -able? (I'm happy dismantling and re-assembling laptops within reason)

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Replacing the screen on a Portege M700-110

At first I must say that probably no one here can say for sure how it works because just Toshiba service has maintenance manuals and exact description how the display must be exchanged.
You know that tablet PC has different display cover and the whole work must be done in dust free room.

So my advice to you is to leave professionals to do this job for you. I don't know where you sent your mail but what you should do is to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.

When I right click on a document, spreadsheet, picture, in a folder, to either cut/copy/etc, the pointer on the screen sometimes goes haywire. I have no control of the mouse or pointer. If the pointer hits the drop down menu then for a while that function becomes highlighted, usually I have to press ESC and then right click again.

This only happens once per document, after it has done its 'haywire thing' the mouse/ pointer behaves normally, although other docs, spreadsheets etc in the same folder will show the same problems as earlier, for one time only. This happens in any folder, either on local drive or on my network.
Do any other M 200 users experience this?

Answer:Portege M 200 - on screen pointer is out of control

Hi

It's a very strange issue.
I don't know why it happens. But I assume it must be something wrong with the hardware. Maybe motherboard or the keyboard.
In the past I have had a very strange issue on my notebook. It was not a Toshiba notebook. If I have opened a HTML site the unit shuts down. It happened only with the HTML sites. I know, it's strange but true. I have contacted the service and he has changed the board.

Well since the motherboard replacing all work fine. But what I want to say is that many strange issues happen without to know why. I think you should contact the Toshiba service in your country.

Hey everyone

i'm having trouble with a Portege 3010CT laptop. when i turn it on the the little lights come on, the battery light etc, but i get nothing on the screen
i installed windows xp about a week or so before this happened...there was no error msg, nothing. it just won't boot up,
any idea?

Answer:Portege 3010CT screen trouble

What about the external screen? Did you check if there is something on the external monitor?
Please check it.

But I have also one question.
Can you hear the notebook booting? Possibly the LEDs are on but the notebook will not boot and start.
In this case it?s not easy to say what?s could be wrong.
Firstly you could try to remove the battery for several times.
After this action please insert the battery again and try to boot up the notebook.

My Portege R500 screen is leaking light very much in the edges and it is impossible to view anything from the sides.
Viewing videos is very difficult. Black is actually dark grey.

Do I have a faulty unit?
Is it possible to fix this screen in the garantee service?

How is your R500 screen?

Answer:Portege R500 screen issue

Hi

I'm not quite sure what could be exactly wrong. Possibly there is something wrong with the FL inverter? but this is my personal suggestion.
To get a detailed fault diagnosis an notebook check would be necessary.

>Is it possible to fix this screen in the warranty service?
If you warranty is valid everything should be done for free? Just contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling.

The technician from authorized service provider should be able to provide more details and should help you.

Hello

The screen on my Portege R600-11B has suddenly gone extremely dim. There's no problem with it coming back to life after hibernation - but it still coems back extremely dim. The brightness does flash up when I press the button at the top right hand corner with a sun symbol on.

I think I might need an FL Invertor? Do you know how I find out which one I need and instructions on how to fit it?

Also I've had problems with Windows 7 Professional starting up incredibly slowly. I'm assuming the two problems are not related.

Hope you can help, thanks.

Answer:Portege R600-11B - Screen is very faint

Hi

I recommend connecting an external monitor.
If the picture on the external monitor would be fine, then your internal display or maybe the FL inverter needs to be replaced.
You ask how to check this?
Well, I?m afraid each part need to be checked using another good tested part.

In your case I would ask an specialist for assistance?
Is warranty valid? If yes then I would recommend to contact an Toshiba service in your country.

It?s not easy to replace if you have no experience! In such case I would recommend contacting an notebook technician.

My portege 4010 has had grey marks on its screen for some time. I have tried various screen cleaning fluids and they don't shift them. They appear to come from the screen's contact with the keys?

How can I remove these, or can I replace the piece of transparent plastic that covers the LCD?

Answer:Dirty screen on my Portege 4010

Hi,

if you can't clean the screen with any different cleaning fluids, it can be that these grey marks are not dirt but dents!

My suggestion is if you can't clean it you should contact a Toshiba Service Partner (perhaps you have warranty) and check it! It can be that the dents are caused by a too high adjusted keyboard. This should be checked to avoid a higher damage.

I am having trouble with a flcikering screen on a brand new Z30-c 156 (PT263E-0L903MEN) - it's about a week old.

Peridically the screen flickers, in black rectangular bloxks in a sort of matrix pattern all over the screen which renders the computer unusable.

A video of the type of flickering posted here: https://aither.box.com/s/qimp81kdwyn...gzerwtj1mzhr90

I noticed the problem very early on when starting to setup the computer for first use. I am still not sure if it's hardware or software related. I have tried a range of things to fix it with no success, which I'll describe below.

Ran Toshiba service station, and TEMPRO, updated BIOS and Value added package according to tempro, but BIOS already seemed to be up to date 5.8)
Fully updated Windows 7 via windows update so it is convinced it has all updates applied
Complete factory reset - wipe of hard drive from factory image on SSD
Ran Toshiba PC Diagnostic tool from within windows, all the hardware tests pass
Tried to uninstall all third party software that's been installed on the PC. The only software really remaining is Office 2010, which is up to date, plus chrome browser, but the flickering existed even without chrome
I am now progressively downloading various drivers directly from the Toshiba support site and reinstalling. I've now done this for the display driver (even though this is older than the one windows update had installed) and the chipset, neither of these seem to have made a difference

the flickering ofte... Read more

Hello,

I have Portege R500 and i've manage to crack the screen.
Part number is LTD121EWEK. Do i need to replace it with the same one or are they some compatible screens which will fit?

Thanks,
Wooju

Answer:Screen replacement on Portege R500

It is always best option to use the same parts. So you will be sure everything will be OK.
Question about other compatible screens is interesting but I don?t think anyone here can give ou final answer.

Contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. They have access to Toshiba database and they can check which screens can be used on this Portege notebook model.

By the way: I found on internet the same info that you can use TMD (LTD121EWEK) LCD display.

I bought a PORTEGE (M800-107) in 2009 and before the expiration of the 3-year-old-warranty (2012), the screen went black permanently .
I sent it to the official TOSHIBA service in Greece (called "IDEAL sa") who fixed it in about a month (and after two tries).
One and a half year later, the screen went black again. Now they ask from me 500 euros for the replacement of the monitor. Of course I'm not going to give all these money.
Portege was the 3rd Toshiba notebook I have used. I chose it because I wanted something powerful and professional. The irony is that the most expensive model went off earlier than the cheaper.
However, that was the LAST ONE from you.

PS: In order to take my notebook back (without fixing), I have to pay 30 euros, for the technicians' check!!!!!!!
Really, do you know anyone who goes to service for fun? Or am I responsible for your model's failure?

Answer:Defective screen on Portege M800

Hi

To be honest I?m really wondering you have this display problem. Portege and Tecra models are the best Toshiba business line notebooks and since years they are known as high quality products with best hardware.

Anyway, sometimes the best products have problems and make troubles. Similar things happen with all technical products. I know it is pretty pity and angry, especially in the moment when you need your notebook.

Maybe it sounds stupid now but maybe you can buy display on your own and find someone who can exchange it for you. I have done this for my friend few years ago. We bought display on eBay and we have exchanged it alone. Of course on our own risk.

Bye and good luck

I have a Qosmio G30, Model No. PQG32C-AV605E with BIOS Version 3.40.
I want to update to 3.90 but I cannot enter Windows.

How do I update BIOS with no Windows available?
Is there a DOS utility?

If so, please send it and I will download it or send me an email on where to download.
The G30 I have has blue vertical lines across the screen when the machine starts up in VGA mode upon entering Windows for the first time.

But the machine can't enter windows, it crashes and dumps and restarts before that.
I replaced the RAM with new RAM but it had no effect.

I ran the diagnostics utility and the hard drives are OPTIMAL in RAID 1 so no errors there.
The reinstall of Windows went smoothly: I just can't get into VGA mode without lines.

I was told by Toshiba tech support that a BIOS upgrade would fix it.

Thanks for any helps.

The parts for Portege R830 should be compatible with the R835 too.
Usually this is the same series but released in another region.

The display seems to be compatible with the Portege R705, R830 and R835 series.
Therefore it should be compatible with your model too.

Anyway, as far as I know this unit is not designed and supported for WXP operating system and because of that you can not find WXP driver. If you want try to check Portege 7020CT Model Homepage at US support page. There are listed many drivers and also support bulletins. Maybe you will find something interesting.

I literally have a bug (little insect) that crawled up behind the screen on my M200, which has subsequently died -so rather than dead pixels I have a dead bug - is there a way of removing the sensitive screen to clean behind it and replace it without damaging it?

Nev

Answer:Portege M200: How to remove the screen to clean behind?

Hi

I wouldn?t recommend removing the screen and to open it.
The screen is a one of the most expensive parts of the notebook.
If you have no experience in such procedures it it?s possible that you will damage the whole display.

However, I think the display is fixed with some screws which you will find at the screen frame. But in your case I would recommend contacting the service to remove the dead bug.
The guys have more experience and can remove it faster.

Hi
I've got a z20t-B-107. Lovely machine, upgraded to win 10, all working fine - I had to download a new Wacom driver to get the 'left-click' to work with the pen.

I'm using it in tablet mode to digitise some data points on a map, and to sketch with the pen. However, when I rest my hand on the screen it 'activates' the touch screen and makes things go crazy. I really need to be able to temporarily switch off the touch digitiser and have only the Wacom digitiser running, and if I can toggle it on/off somehow that would be useful. Otherwise i need to use the pen in a very unnatural position to avoid touching the screen with my hand.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note which uses the Wacom type digitiser - it doesn't seem to suffer from this, as soon as it detects the pen near the screen it appear to switch off the touch part.

I would be grateful for any help - I've tried search engines but they only seem to give results about touch pads, and that's completely different...

Many thanks in advance

Answer:Portege Z20t - can I turn touch screen OFF?

Hi,

I use a Z20t too (but with Win8.1) and have the same problem. I have decided to switch off the touch complete. It is not a good solution, but a good working with OneNote is only with switching off the touch functionality possible.
Maybe this is a possible solution for you.
In Win8.1 I switched off the driver in the device manager.

I found the following steps here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...d55591d?auth=1

1. Right-click and select "All Apps" at the lower right corner, then select Control Panel
2. Select Hardware and Sound
3. Select Device Manager
4. Select Human Interface Devices
5. From the list, look for the driver for the touch screen. This can be tricky since on my tablet they are all listed as "USB Input Device" and there are 3 of them. I found it by disabling and re-enabling one at a time until the touch screen stopped responding. You can also identify the touch screen by checking the Properties | Details and get the "Hardware Ids" then do a search online to see what the device is. In my case, the touch screen has the ID USB/VID_0EEF&PID_7302.
6. Once you know which is the touch screen, disable the driver and the touch screen should no longer work
Enable this device to make the touch screen work again.

This R600 is only two weeks old.
XP, no modifications (original HDD), no strange software, and malware analysis doesn't find anything.

Once in a while (15-30 minutes apart) the screen will "flash". It goes dark for a fraction of a second and then is normal. It's not getting worse or better.

I hate to send in this unit... any ideas?

Thanks

Answer:Portege R600 - screen occasionally flashes

I think this could be a problem of the LCD or FL inverter but I would try first an external monitor if the same error happens on it so check this!

Furthermore in your case I would try to update the display driver and the BIOS. Both you can find on the Toshiba website:

Hi All,

Does anyone know what might be the reason of the screen going black on and off when the laptop wakes up?
The laptop is Toshiba Portege Z830-11M W7HP, bought in September.

The problem began shortly after I bought the laptop, but started gradually with a 1-2 second black screen period whenever I tried to wake the laptop up from the sleep mode. It did look like a regular "blackout" part of the wake-up process so I just tried to ignore it, but it started to happen more and more often recently. It got really worse after two months of use and the screen went black two or three times before I got to the login screen. The error was also difficult to recreate because it was random. Sometimes the screen went black once sometimes two times or just blinked for a split second.

Yesterday I worked for the whole day and in the evening it went really bad. The screen went black a number of times every time I resumed work after a short break.
I switched the laptop off when I finished, but when I switched it back on in the morning, the screen just stayed black. I tried to use the touchpad, but it only made the screen glow grey.

Can anyone suggest what to do?

Answer:Screen goes black on and off when Portege Z830-11M wakes up

Hmm? so finally you cannot start up the notebook? is it right?
It would be interesting to know if this helps:
- Removed battery and ac adaptor
- Press and hold power button? do this for 30sec
- Then connect both parts again.
Does the notebook power up?

If this does not help? well, you are in trouble? I would assume its hardware related issue and in such case you need service help

A 17" LCD is connected to my Portege R100 via the port replicator. The native resolution is 1280 x 1024. But the actural resolution is only 1024 x 768. The LCD can adjust image automatically. The actural resolution can be checked through LCD menu. This caused distorted text on external LCD.

I have set resolution of exteranl LCD to 1280 x 1024 on Control Panel --> Display --> Setting....
The version of video driver is v6.4823-104.22_2. The BIOS, common module, Toshiba Display Device Cahange Utility, Toshiba Hotkey Utility for Display Device have all updated to latest version.

I used Fn + F5 combination to shift between display modes: Simoutaneous, External Monitor only. This did not fix problem.

Anyone has any idea?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Answer:Portege R100 and external 17" LCD - can not set right screen resolution

Hi

The favorite resolution is not available on the external display because the display driver which is installed on the notebook does not support it!
The external monitor is able to handle the 1280 x 1024 but if this resolution is not listed in the display driver then you will be not able to choose it!

The Portege M700 had touch screen functionality before I upgraded Vista to Windows 7. Now it does not function, nor does the two finger functionality which W7 is supposed to offer. Any ideas on how to recover the touch screen functionality?

Answer:Portege M700, Windows 7 and touch screen

Hi

I think you should install the Tablet Driver from Wacom.
The driver is placed on the Toshiba European driver page?
The WACOM Dual Touch driver for the integrated tablet is necessary to use the tablet functions.

There is also the Tablet PC Extension Package.
This driver package installs a range of important utilities.
_TOSHIBA Rotation Utility:_ Set the default screen orientation you want the system to use when switching from PC to Tablet mode, or vice-versa.
_TOSHIBA Tablet PC Buttons Driver:_ You can dedicate tablet buttons to performing common tasks so that you can easily operate your tablet computer when you're away from your workstation. For example, you can dedicate a button to open a program or to change your screen orientation.
_TOSHIBA Accelerometer Utilities:_ These Utilities are a set of hardware utilities that work with the motion sensors built into you machine. With the Accelerometer, your machine will be able to detect the way you are holding it at any given moment. You can set the machine to perform a specific function when the unit is quickly tilted to the left or right, or to the front or back. You can also take control of the cursor in some applications and make it move by leaning the PC in a certain direction.

But all this tools are released for Vista? anyway maybe they will work with Win 7 too? check this!!

Hi all,

We have an odd issue with one of Our Portege Z20's

When switched on you see the Toshiba Screen and then the screen just goes blank. If you tap f2 etc then you are asked for a supervisor password, and again after entering the password the screen goes blank. We have let the battery run flat and this has not solved the issue.
I have connected a external monitor and still the same thing occurs.

Hello

Have you tested an external monitor on your notebook?

I can?t say what is the reason for this but if you test an external monitor you can determine if it?s a mainboard issue or internal display issue.
Check this!

But I think in both cases you should contact an ASP and ask a notebook technician for help and exchanging the faulty parts.

I have just recently bought a portege 7220 laptop, and had windows ME installed until i can get more ram added for win xp. The problem i have is that the screen resolution is set at 16 bit colour and is stuck at 800x600 resolution. I cant get it to go to 1024x768 pixels. I have tried installing the drivers of the toshiba site, and have even had the local pc tech shop try to fix it, but to no avail. hi, this must be a driver-problem ; the native resolution of your 7220 is 1024x768, that is why 800x600 is shown in a window

I suggest that you switch to Windows2000, it runs perfectly on a 7220 and has much lesser memory-demands than XP
In W2k there are more appropriate drivers available and with the drivers from the toshiba website your problem must be solved

btw : make sure your BIOS-settings are right ( especially the "extended display-mode" ) you should consider to update your BIOS to the last version

Hi, hope someone can guide me in the right direction

I have a Protege R100 notebook.

When I start it up the power light comes on and the display briefly flashes into action but then stays black. The drive still works and loads the OS, but I cannot get the screen to display anything.

Thanks

Answer:Portege R100 - Blank screen on boot

Hi JFarr29,

That means you can see a picture on an external monitor and only the internal monitor isn?t working properly, right?

Well, in this case it could be the FL inverter or display itself? This should be checked from an authorized service provider if you are not familiar with notebook disassembling.
Do you know how to contact the guys?
