Satellite L855 and Win8.1 - Touchpad stops working after login window

Question: Satellite L855 and Win8.1 - Touchpad stops working after login window

Brand new laptop running windows 8.1 Touchpad works for about 30 seconds after windows boots up then stops. Tried downloading latest drivers from Toshiba site but it didn't fix the problem. Tried the touchpad function keys but that is not the issue. Called Toshiba support and they suggested sending it in for a factory reset.

I also have a problem with AMD graphics going split screen after computer goes into a sleep state. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for this on advice of Tech support but not fixed either.

I'm a bit concerned as a search shows both these problems not uncommon and iv'e spent a lot of time copying over data and installing software, don't want to lose it and lose time waiting for factory reset if I have to send ot back.

Anyone have any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Satellite L855 and Win8.1 - Touchpad stops working after login window

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Factory reset is best way to fix this but have you upgraded your machine following step-by-step instructions from http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/ ?

Hi,

I have an L50D-B purchased 12/2014, 2 days ago it started.
After I login I have the touchpad work while it is all starting up, but once startup finishes it stops.

I use a bluetooth mouse but have been using same mouse since I bought the laptop, same printer , same wifi connection. Same Antivirus software.

The only thing I can think that has changed is I removed the Nortons trial software for remote backup.

Any ideas.

Thanx :-)

Answer:Touchpad on my Satellite L50D-B stops working after Login

Hi

Touchpad can be enabled and disabled using the FN + F5.
Did you check this function in the past?

Furthermore you can try to uninstall the touchpad driver (control panel ? programs and features)
Here you should see Synaptics or Elan touchpad driver.

After you have uninstalled the touchpad driver, visit the Toshiba EU driver page, then download and reinstall the touchpad driver again. Reboot the notebook and test if this helped to fix your issue

I hare recently upgradedmy Toshiba Satellite L855-149 to the most recent windows 8 version 6.2 and since I have done so the Synaptics touch pad has stopped working, I presume because the driver does not work with this version of windows 8. What can i do to resolve this problem so that i can use my computer without a plug in mouse again?

Thanks,
Simon

Answer:Satellite L855-149 - Synaptics touchpad not working after Win 8 upgrade

Hi Simon !!
I have just clean installed windows pro 8 on my satellite r830 and i had the same problem (actually, the touchpad still worked but not the scrollbars).
What you need to do is download the driver via this website, unzip it and execute it. It will work just fine. Locate it under 'windows 7 64 Bit' (or 32 Bit, depending on your OS) and not 'Windows 8 - Upgrade' as synaptics still hasn't realized a specific driver to windows 8.
Use the assistant on the website to find the proper driver faster (the reference of the model is written on the back of the laptop)
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
So far, it's the only driver that i have installed. However, the button near the touchpad that activates or deactivates it still doesn't work. Maybe it will work again when i install the other drivers.
I hope this can help you ;)

My touchpad (built into the notebook) works fine on the login screen. As soon as I hit the login button it stops totally. Buttons and touchpad. Also my screensaver works before login (on login screen) but once logged in it won't auto start but will start under 'preview'.

I bought my Toshiba Satellite L855 almost 2 months ago and I've been struggling with the following problem:

Everytime i'm connected to a wireless connection, after 2 minutes of use, windows gives me the bluescreen and its always the same error code. It's about the Atheros wireless card.

I've updated the drivers and the windows 8 came standart with the laptop.

Hi,

In the beginning of this week I bought Toshiba satellite Z30-A-1D0.

My touchpad seemed fine but once in a while the cursor stops working for about 1 minute. I can use the left and right button of the touchpad but I just can't move the cursor.

First I thought that I accidentally had locked the touchpad so I pressed Fn+F9 and the light turned on meaning that the touchpad was locked, then I pressed it again and the cursor was still not moving, it only starts almost a minute after... I've tried to be at alert to what I'm doing in the touchpad but it happens when i'm just moving the cursor.

This happens about 4 times a day and the fisrt time it happened was on the day I bought. And I never used a USB mouse in this computer.

Thanks for your atention to my problem and hope you can help me.

Answer:Touchpad stops working for a moment on my Satellite Z30-A-1D0

It is not easy to say why this happen.
If possible try to use external mouse. It will be interesting to know if there is some general problem with mouse or just with internal touchpad.

My M40 laptop has just started having a problem with it's Touchpad, after hibernation the the Touchpad does not work. plugging an external mouse works, I've tried disabling and re enabling through the control panel but it does not help. Powering off and then back on does fis the Thinkpad, has anyone seen this before?

Answer:Touchpad stops working after hibernation on Satellite M40

You said this problem started now. So it seems that this issue was not present in the past. Am I right?
So if I?m right then it looks more like an software problem as a hardware issue.

Usually the first step should be a new Touchpad driver installation. Then you could try to update the Windows XP OS to the latest state. You should use the Microsoft update page to get all patches.

Then download and install the cleaning tool called ?CCleaner?. Its for free and it?s very helpful to clean the OS and the registry.

If this does not help, try to reinstall the OS from the recovery CD and test if this issue persists after new OS installation.

Hi,

I am having this problem for over a month now, the touch pad stops working suddenly and it starts to work after a restart and sometimes after a couple of restarts.

The frequency of this issue is at least twice an hour. I am really tired of restarting all the time.
I have tried system restore but that has not helped and the function keys are not working either.

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-1LD - Touchpad stops working

> I have tried system restore but that has not helped

What do you mean exactly by system restore?

Did you use the Toshiba Recovery DVD or Toshiba HDD Recovery procedure to set the notebook back to factory settings?
In case you did not try that, I recommend doing this!

Fact is that this recovery procedure should fix the system/software issues and in my opinion it looks more like a software as a hardware problem.

Hello,

I was hoping that someone would be able to help me fix my touchpad.

It keeps on freezing after I install the Synaptics drivers given on the official drivers page. It used to happen on windows 7 from time to time, but on Win8.1 it happens quite often.

It just happens on random. Left click, right click and scroll continue to work, but cursor won't move for a few seconds no matter what I do, and then it starts working again. It's really frustrating and it happens a lot of time, making the work on computer quite unpleasent. If an external mouse is connected, when it freezes I'm able to move the cursor using that mouse with no problem at all.

Has anyone maybe dealt with this kind of a problem before?

Thanks in advance & sorry if my English is bad

Answer:Satellite L855-14J - touchpad is freezing

Hi,

out of interest, does the mouse freeze just after you have used the keyboard? my L855-188 (i know not the same model, but maybe the same driver/functionality) freezes the touchpad for a couple seconds after i have used the keyboard in any way to prevent misclicks apparently.

hopefully this page can help you, its how to turn off palm check on the synaptics software

Hello,

I bought this laptop a week ago as an upgrade from the dell studio 1558 and it is more powerful spec wise and i will admit windows 8 does make things a little strange but i am having issues with the laptop:

The laptop sometimes runs slowly and certain applications such as chrome and steam and skype just stop working for a time, and sometimes require the applications to be reset before they will work again and chrome has now developed a bug that only lets it open if i right click on it and tell it to open a new window

The wireless will randomly drop, and will no longer open the connections window, the devices show it as being active, but can neither enable it or disable it or find wireless connections or even open the menu to find connections this can only be solved by a system restart.... i have updated the drivers for the wireless to the newest for the Atheros card

It will not restart, shut-down or sleep, when asked to do so the screen will go dark, sound like its preparing to shut down and say with the screen darkened hanging in the about to shut down state until it either cuts its own power or i hold the power button to force it to turn off,
I have updated the drivers available on the Toshiba website as all the AMD drivers say they are incompatible

Help would be appreciated, I don't want to send this back or have to try reverting to windows 7 or something drastic

Answer:Satellite L855-188 runs slowly - some apps stop working for a time

For me it sounds like a lot of programs, applications and processes are running in the background.

You could try to restore and to repair the system:

If you would use the option Restore PC, you would get the same state like at the first day of purchase. Its worth a try.

So i recently bought a lenovo y50-70 laptop and it was working fine.At one point the microphone stopped working, my friends were bearly hearing me through skype. I looked around the net and I found a similar post. There was a Realtek driver there at solved the problem but.... Today it happened again. I need a better and permanent solution for this problem. Here is the link to the post i found : https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/The-internal-microphone-of-my-Lenovo-Y50-70-doe... Thanks in advance.

Answer:Internal microphone stops working win8.1

I added some pictures to that topic you had linked. Check those out. Let me know if they hellped, I had this same issue, where I was using sound recorder to test my mic after the -in-game-mic wasnt working. I tried using soud recorder but it wouldn't pick up my voice but would actaully pick up me tapping on my keyboard. Then I had my university tech guys help, but they had no idea. I was just fooling around in the sound settings and found that one of the volume mixers had my microphone muted. Shown in the pictures. I enabled that, went back to my sound recorder, and it worked, just needs to tweaking to pick up my voice a little better. Not sure if this will help you.

Hello so yesterday morning i woke up and i got on my laptop. and realized my keyboard stopped functioning so i restarted it mouse was working but the keyboard only worked for a second after the windows startup. so i formatted the computer again to windows 8.1 after installing few software's and drivers my computer went for a restart. when the system started up. the keyboard had stopped functioning again. at first i thought it was because there was some sort of virus in my files that i had transferred back on my computer. later i downloaded latest version of windows 10 installed it on 2 computers my brothers and mine. it seems to work perfectly fine with my brothers computer... after installing it on my computer the keyboard was working and running smootly until i installed the windows update which gave problem with my graphics card driver and i thot it was because of my wireless card disconnected from internet. so i restarted the computer and again im stuck with a non working keyboard. and yes i have also checked "ease of access".
so i donno anymore what to do please help me? is there is problem with nvdia gtx 780m graphics driver or is there a windows update causing this?

Hello,
I recently upgraded my Satellite L650-18C (short part no: PSK1JE) to Windows 8 Pro, through a commercial copy. The laptop is running very well and I'm happy with the new OS, but I'm experiencing a couple of issues.

1 - Touchpad
When I first installed Windows the touchpad was using generic drivers, so I went [here|http://pt.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=PT] to download the adequate drivers. I couldn't find any Windows 8 drivers, so I went to Synaptics' website to get drivers directly from there. I only found Windows 7 drivers.
When I try to open the touchpad settings in Windows I get an error message that sounds something like "Can't connect to Synaptics pointing device" and I have to reinstall the drivers.

2 - Wireless connectivity
With an Ethernet cable I high speeds (~70Mbit/s), but over wi-fi, I only get 3.5Mbit/s.
I read that this is related to drivers, so I searched for appropriate drivers, but so far found none that even get installed (I click Yes on UAC and then nothing happens).

I really would like to avoid going back to Windows 7.
Is there anything I can do?
Any help would be very appreciated.

Answer:Wi-Fi connectivity and touchpad issues with Satellite L650 on Win8

At first you must check if your notebook is supported for Win8 or not. Do it on
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/checkWindows8Compatible.do?service=EU

If not then you can try to use drivers for newer but similar notebook models.

WLAN ? I've checked notebook specification and your notebook has WIFI and Bluetooth combo card. It is Wifi 11b/g/n+BT V2.1+EDR (Broadcom BCM94313). Unfortunately on Toshiba WLAN portal you will not find Win8 drivers at the moment.

Hi, I've had my new laptop for 24 hours, and I've experienced twice a situation whereby the touchpad stops responding permanently, requiring the machine to be reboot (which "resolves" the problem). In addition to that, I've been experiencing intermittent freezes in response for about 3-4 seconds, then it starts responding again.

It's brand spanking new, so this is pretty disappointing. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, is there a fix that doesn't involve returning the unit?

Cheers,
Pete

Answer:Satellite P840 Win8 - touchpad intermittently stop responding

Hi

Did you notice the same using a connected USB mouse?
I?m asking this because from my point of view the touchpad or the system could freezes for some seconds because of stressed CPU.

In many cases the system doesn?t response because some processes running in the background stresses the CPU and this leads to such system freezing.

I would not be worry about that? check if the system is up to date and if all updates are installed.
In case this issue would not be related to the mentioned background process, try to update the touchpad driver.
Check the Toshiba EU driver page in order to get the latest touchpad driver or visit the Synaptics driver page in order to get the driver directly from touchpad manufacturer page.

Hello,

since I bought my Satellite L550 I have problems with the touchpad.
From time to time it stops the scolling funktionality. I tried different things. I deinstalled the drivers reinstalled them, tried older drivers and so on.

Then I decided to wait until I get my Windows 7. Two days ago I received my package and after the successful upgrade to Windows 7 the problem occured again. Suddenly the scolling-functionality didn't work.
Just a reboot of the system solves the problem.
Then the system works some time, and the problem occures again.

The Touchpad is a Alps Pointing device. T
he current installed driververison is 7.102.302.104.

Hopefully anybody can help me to solve this problem finally.

Thanks a lot

Have you also tried to reinstall the Touchpad driver? You can find the newest version on the Toshiba website.

You can find two versions ? One from Alps Electric and the other one from Synaptics. You have to install both drivers!!!

I?m not sure if this will solve your problem but it?s worth a try. ;)

I have had my Dell Inspiron 7559 for about a week now, it runs windows 10. Over the past few days the trackpad has started to not work. At first the single tap (left click) didn't work. But the left click button worked fine and the two tap (right click) worked fine too. I restarted it, single tap works again.
This happened a couple more times and I decided to investigate. There was no touchpad on my mouse settings, only a HID-compliant mouse and a PS/2 Compatible Mouse. I don't have any mice. I did a driver update for both of the above and ELAN input device showed up. I did a driver update for it and it worked ok for a couple of hours and it said it is working properly. However if stopped working again and I went back to the settings and whilst windows 10 settings said the trackpad was on, the ELAN tab on the mouse properties said that the Elan smart-pad was not enabled it and restarted. When I went back to the same settings after the restart, it was not enabled again. So I enabled it. Two hours later, the trackpad was back to not registering single taps. Enabling and disabling the ELAN trackpad appears to do nothing.
The next day, single tap stopped working and then all the buttons and taps stopped working but scroll/zoom etc still worked. I restarted and it worked again. Later on it had the issue that the trackpad would only select things on the start bar. Once you opened something you couldn't click at all. Again I restarted and it "fixed"... Read more

My touchpad suddenly has an issue where it stops working for about 5 seconds, and this occurs randomly.  I was having an issue earlier where the multi-tap function on the trackpad was bringing up cortana on its own, and I reinstalled the driver and this issue was resolved, but now the freezing issue exists.  I am using windows 10 and the drivers are up to date. If anybody knows how to fix this issue, or where I could find the solution I would appreciate the help.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing.  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only three days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.
These were both brand new computers with the exact same issue.  Is Dell simply incapable of making a decent computer any more?  I used to love Dell; this was my fifth Dell computer, but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

Hmmm... strange issue. maybe, it's driver conflict issue. Anyway, try to reinstall Lan and touchpad driver. Before to update, uinstall lan and touchpad drivers (usb mouse may be needed after touchpad driver uinstall). If still problem exists, restore factory settings with a recovery disk.........

Hi

I am using Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-ez2502 with Windows Vista Business.
Sometimes my touchpad stops working for a couple of ten seconds a minimum of 1 time in a day approximately.
It gets a bit annoying, since the mouse pointer won't move by moving the finger on the touchpad.
Can anyone please suggest a solution? Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks
Adil

Answer:Satellite Pro S300-ez2502 - sometimes touchpad stops resonding

Hello Adil

To ask for solution is simply but it will be interesting to know when this happen. Usually if the mouse is ?blocked? it can be because of some background activity or ?busy? HDD.
Have you noticed HDD activity (blinking HDD) led when this happen?

I mean when you wrote ?sometimes? it is not easy to say why this happen and what you can do about it.

Hi,

Very often, when I restart my laptop, and after typing my user password the screen goes black and the system stops loading windows.
I can access the task manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, but I can't make it go on.
And then, without doing anything, if I restart (sometime once, sometimes two or three times) it works again.

It's very strange.

I've read that I should update the BIOS and the video card, but the problem is not solved yet. What can I do?

Greetings

Answer:Satellite A200 PSE3E stops after login

Yes, this is very strange.

Have you made a recovery with the recovery disk? It could be also a problem with Windows and a reinstallation would solve this problem.

Otherwise I have no more idea because you did make a BIOS update.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing (it won't respond to taps and sometimes stops scrolling, but the right and left click continue to work).  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only four days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.  Now Dell says that means the problem is on my end.
I haven't downloaded any new programs, everything is up-to-date, and when I check the touchpad settings, it shows everything as being enabled.  The touchpad stops working randomly, on different websites and in different programs.  I never had this problem on any previous Dell laptops.  I can't think what I might be doing to cause this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

The touchpad on my X1 Carbon laptop (3443CTO) has started working very sporadically. It seems that it will work after reboot, but then after a while it stops working. I suspect that this is a driver and/or bios issue, because this started happening about the same time I upgraded the bios to the latest and also upgraded to Windows 10. Has anyone else experienced this issue? AFAIK, all of my Lenovo and other drivers are up-to-date, as the Lenovo Companion tools does not list any pending updates. Any ideas?

Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. Can anyone help me?Elisabeth

The touchpad behaves erratically (mouse pointer goes wild when I put my finger in the touchpad, either in rest or in movement) after a few hours of gaming (if the keyboard lights are off) or after half an hour or so of general use (if the keyboard lights are on). It seems to me that there is some sort of heat-induced short contact going on. Does anybody know how to fix this? I've got a friend to bring me this notebook from the US, but unfortunately this model isn't supported by Lenovo here in Brazil. Now I may need to find a fix for it myself (or resort to workarounds). A lesson learned for my next purchase: be more careful with so-called "worldwide" warranties.

Hi

Thanks for the post.

As per your concern touchpad will not work while system gets overheated after playing games.

Hello. My month old E560 has been great until recently, when the touchpad has decided to play up on me.What happens after a while of use, the touchpad will begin not responding to my gestures, finger movements, sliding, etc. It will sporadically work for maybe a fraction of a second after, but 99% of the time when I frantically draw circles with my finger it will not respond. This proves it is NOT the touchpad completely disabling/turning off, etc. There are no issues with the trackpoint or any hardware buttons. Even right clicking with the touchpad does what it's supposed to.  This is on the most up to date version of ALP Lenovo Ultranav drivers for the e560 from the Lenovo website. I have found that uninstalling this driver (and thus using Windows' default touchpad driver) prevents Lenovo-specific multitouch features such as twofinger scrolling, and also slightly changes what the middleclick does, but at least prevents the issue of an unresponsive touchpad which is the most important feature. Usually, a quick restart solves this issue. But after the computers shut down and started up again after a while of being off, the issue will occur again. I am running Windows 10 home 64 bit with, as said, the most recent Lenovo-issued ALPS Ultranav driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear all, since almost 2 years I am pretty happy with my L440.But lately, I often have problems with the touchpad becaue it suddenly stops working,no mouse moving, no touchpad-based clicking. The trackpointer still works and also the hardware buttons for left and right clicking are still working. However, depending on the task i prefer either trackpad or touchpad. I already changed the sensitivity for palm checking but no effect.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The touchpad stops working randomly when the computer is woken back from sleep and it has to be rebooted to get it going agin. An externally connected mouse will work fine during that time. Is this due to a possibly faulty touchpad??

Answer:The touchpad on my V3-331 stops working randomly.

Hi Jithin1,

It is possible to be a defective touchpad. I would suggestion a few things you can try on your own before looking into service options.

Update or reinstall touchpad drivers
Refresh the PC to see if that takes care of any issues.
Reload the PC entirely if possible

If you continue having issues, contact your local Acer support team so that they can help setup services to take care of the touchpad issues you're having.

I recently bought a S10-3t ideapad direct from lenovo. (Moved abroad though so can't get warranty cover on it).Very frustrating - the touchpad regularly stops working. It will work for a few hours then stop working completely for hours/days on end.I've tried updating the touchpad drivers, system restore, lenovo restore (back to factory settings).

Answer:S10-3t touchpad regularly stops working

Next time it quits working try a few taps around the touchpad and see if it starts working.  If it does it might be  a loose connection inside the case.

Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working.

See if reinstalling the touchpad driver from the laptop's manufacturer's website helps.

I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with a synaptics touchpad bought on March 20th which hasn't given me any problems till 3 days ago.

Friday, when I turned the computer on, the touchpad wasn't working. I tried Fn+F7 and nothing. The usual synaptics animated icon wasn't beside the clock. I went to the control panel>mouse>device settings and no device was listed there, while all the options were greyed out. I went to system>device manager and no "Mouse and other pointing devices" was listed. I went to Acer.pt (I'm from portugal) and downloaded the driver and installed it. The instalation went without problems and when I restarted the computer, the touchpad was still not working and nothing was listed on the device manager.

I called the Acer support line and the told me to restore the OS. I spent friday doing backups and I reinstalled Windows XP from Acer eRecovery Management. After all that, the touchpad wasn't working still.

Saturday was spent going to the store where I bought the netbook and trying to find a solution. Just as when I was going to give the netbook to warranty, a guy turned the computer on and the touchpad was magically working again.

I went home, all happy and warm and fuzzy inside.

Today, when I was copying my backups to the netbook again, I hit "cancel", and the icon next to the clock disappered and the touchpad stoped working again. Went to check, and nothing was listed on the device manager or on contro... Read more

If the Acer Factory Restore failed to fix it and it intermittently comes and goes its likely a hardware issue. I'd be contacting Acer again and sending the unit in for warranty service.

Now that the video flickering issue has been resolved, I am now frequently encountering a very frustrating problem with my new XPS 13 (9343).   If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes (not sure how many, sometimes it's 1 or 2, sometimes its 30), then mouse pointer disappears completely and the touchpad does not respond.  I can click, swipe, tap, etc. but there is no pointer.  When it happens I am forced to use the touch screen to shut down the machine and restart it so I can get the touchpad and pointer to work again.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad stops working

I have the same problem. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I have tried every touchpad driver version I could find with no luck. I am currently using this driver: Cypress Semiconductor, Inc, dated 6/24/2015, version 2.5.1.72.
I often find it happening when playing a youtube video or something like that, but that's probably just because I don't use the trackpad for a few minutes while watching the video.
When it happens the mouse pointer is either completely gone, or it is "frozen" in some random position on the screen and the trackpad is not moving it. It happens once or twice a day for me, and I then restart the PC to fix - annoying.
I feel 99% certain that it is a driver issue - and that no driver has been created for the Cypress Trackpad in the PC that actually works in Windows 10. If anybody know of a driver that actually works I'd love to get the details.

The drivers I got with my laptop are too old and on updating to the latest one from synaptics, the hotkey doesn't work to enable/disable touchpad. The key works fine with the lenovo driver if I re-install it? Can anyone tell how can I enable the hotkey function for the drivers from synaptics?

Answer:Touchpad hotkey not working for drivers from synaptics site Win8.1 x64 - S510p

hi yash2710,

The driver from synaptics is a generic one which meets basic synaptics and advanced functionality
The hot key is precustomized by Lenovo and other OEMs and is on random key location depending on Manufacturers that's why it is not included on the one from synaptics.

As per Synaptics site
To ensure that you get the appropriate device driver for your system, download your Synaptics device driver from your system manufacturer's support website.

Can you share what you need on the updated driver from synaptics? Maybe I can help.

Regards
Solid Cruver

Answer:U410 touchpad Driver stops working

Most likely you're experiencing this issue when starting Microsoft Office (I did too)Here's how to fix it 1.Download the 16.3.9.0 driver from herehttp://www.station-drivers.com/page/Synaptics.htm2.uninstall your current synaptics driver and reboot when it asks you to (your touchpad will still work, just without gestures and it will move slower than before)3.Install the new driver and restart if it asks you to4.Go to the mouse properties and the synaptics tab and adjust the touchpad to your liking(here will be 2 devices listed, clicking the settings of one of them brings up manufacturer information, the other will bring up configuration)5.No more nonworking driver just so you know, resuming from sleep will cause the synaptics driver icon to appear in your taskbar even if you have disabled it from appearing there, but it will go away automaticallyand also, the 4-finger flick option in the configuration settings will not work, but everything else shouldmessage me if you need assistance

I own 2x Equium L40 laptops.
Both have recently started experiencing the same issue with their touchpads.

For some reason, whenever the laptops are horizontal, the touchpads don't work.
However, once the laptop is tilted, the touchpad works fine.
I can then return the laptop to horizontal, where it works, until the next time it decides to stop working!

I would have thought this was an insolated issue, but for the fact that it is happening on BOTH my laptops!
The laptops were both bought in Aug 07, and are therefore, unfortunately, both out of warranty.

Anybody experienced the same, or have any advice to offer?

Answer:Touchpad stops working when Equium L40 has been moved

Hello Nik

Your story sounds really unbelievable. I have never heard about something like this. Tilting notebook is for me not so good idea. What do you think about it? :)

Sorry but I don't know if somebody here can offer some explanation. The best thing you can do is to show it to the service. Maybe is there some contact problem. The strangest thing is that you have noticed the same issue on both notebooks.

Have you noticed this from the first second when the notebook is on or later after some time?

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

I noticed that the Synaptic Touchpad driver (I updated to the latest version) would stop functioning whenever I do a hard drive-intensive task. For example, When I run a virus scanner, when I convert movies, when I record anything, the Synaptics driver stops working. I can still use the touchpad, but all of the original driver features are gone and the icon from the taskbar dissappears as well. Stranger still, whenever something like this happens, I try to go into mouse properties in the control panel and it ALWAYS becomes completely unresponsive and freezes up. I cannot do anything with the touchpad control panel either. When I stop whatever I am doing to the hard drive, everything goes back to normal and the Synaptics touchpad driver re-enables and appears in my taskbar again. Help?Thanks!-Clark

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

Answer:X1 Carbon touchpad and trackpad stops working.

does the same problem manifest itself in the BIOS menu?have you tried doing all the updates through ThinkVantage System Update.

The Touchpad stops working and is grayed in options. Trackpoint is fine. Driver reinstall helps, but not for long - the issue appears again very soon, especially after plugging in the power. No problem in Ubuntu/Linux. Any idea? Driver version is the latest one for Win7 64bit: 18.0.7.109. BIOS: GIET90WW (2.40).

I am using Windows 10 version 1703 (OS Build 15063.413) on HP Notebook 1000. And just for reference I have encountered this issue in previous versions of Windows 10 as well. Every time I clean install Windows 10 and update to install drivers, it will work fine for about 1-2 months and then suddenly out of nowhere touchpad will either stops working or keeps moving itself after 5-10 minutes of restart ( even if I don't update Windows, means same drivers version ).

Right now I have installed version 19.3.31.16 of Synaptics pointing device drivers. But I have tried to solve this issue by installing previous version of drivers as well ( version 8.xx, 10.xx, 17.xx, 19.0.19.1 ). After installing drivers the first time it works fine for about 15 minutes and then same issue!

I have noticed this btw:
Every time I put the laptop to sleep and then log on, touchpad works fine for about 5 minutes.Every time I restart the laptop, it works fine for about 5 minutes.Even If I uninstall the drivers and use basic drivers by Windows 10, the same thing happens. Touchpad keeps flickering, moving itself or would just stop working.Sometimes Upper right or left corner of touchpad will work fine while the rest of the area is unresponsive.

Have anybody else encountered this issue? How did you resolve it? I don't wanna install Windows again or keep restarting my laptop.

Hi there, I have kind of an odd problem with my T440s since I installed Windows 10:The touchpad works fine, including clicking by touching it, but as soon as I click by pressing the touch pad hard, it completely stops working. I can't even move the mouse anymore, neither via the touchpad nor the trackpoint. As soon as I restart the laptop, everything works fine again - until I click the pad again. Anyone else encountered this? Any ideas what I could do? Best,Daniel

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

When the message appeared, I had tried to go onto the mouse options on the control pannel and i got an error message saying 'unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another PS/2 pointing driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing divce driver for your external device again.
Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?'

I have not installed any PS/2 pointing drivers but I decided to try and reinstall it again just to be sure but when I reinstalled it i had to restart my computer and when i came back on it was working fine... for a while. The message appeared again and reinstalling it was just a comp... Read more

I have an X201 and noticed tha tthe toucpad stops working at seemingly random intervals.  After tracking down the culprit to the Synaptic Touchpad Enhancements process, I did a search and found other people having the issue in the Thinkpad W series forum.  Instead of reposting it here, you can find my reply with an easy workaround to get it working again over in this thread. http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W150-Touchpad-stops-working-after-a-certain-tim... Somebody thinks the problem only happens with Firefox, which I happen to use as well, so the problem could be between Firefox and the Synaptics process. Lenovo:  Please fix this.  Thank you.

Answer:Touchpad stops working on X201 (and other models)

I'm having the same exact issue!!!  My trackpad works great after a reboot, but always eventually goes to crap and stops responding (or responds haywire) to my inputs...  I called Lenovo yesterday, and their "senior" tech guys had never even heard of the issue!?!  They told me I needed to send the unit in for repair...  Argh... Hopefully Lenovo will realize this is a "real" issue and address it SOONER than later!!! Thanks for posting your work-around...  Yeah, it kills the multitouch, but at least the trackpad starts responding again... Let's cross our fingers that this gets RESOLVED...  What a pain in the rear problem for such an expensive PC!!!

so, EVERY TIME I close(and re open) my laptop lid the touchpad stops working. seemed to happen after a win X update(not upgrade TO win x) it is so extremely frustrating. the only way i can get it to respond again is to reboot. I have tried disabling and reenabling the touchpad, updating drivers, and nothing seems to help.

Ok,
I tried everything I could... brand new laptop and that is not working...
Normally that feature is part of the driver but for some reason it doesn't seem to work with Lenovo most recent driver.

Problem:
With the most recent driver, there is no way to disable the touchpad only while an external mouse is attached

driver with the issue :

Link to image 1

I tried tuning it with the DisableIntPDFeature dword32 key in the registry without success :
setting the key to "2" does nothing ( both mouses works)
setting the key to "3" completely disable the touchpad (with or without external mouse)
setting the key to "11" does nothing ( both mouses works)
setting the key to "33" completely disable the touchpad (with or without external mouse)

reverting to a previous driver found on synaptics website makes the feature to work properly but every nice features from the lenovo drivers are now inexistants....
Driver tried is unsigned 16.6.0.0

but at least the disable feature is working...

Can you help me with that ??

I just bought a refurbished Dell latitude 2110. Worked fine when I got it, but then the touch screen stopped working. If I reboot, it works until I choose a user, then stops when I open the user account. It's going back unless I find that I've inadvertently turned the touchscreen off. Without the touch screen, it's pretty much a brick. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Latitude E5470 on Windows 10 Enterprise, running the most up to date BIOs, chipset, touchpad driver, and display driver.
I am running into an issue that whenever a video, be it streamed or saved locally, begins to play, the touchpad no longer responds. The icon in the bottom right tray will not show any input, be it clicking or trying to move the mouse, and the mouse will not move, or allow clicks to register. Once the video is exited out, the touchpad resumes functionality. An external mouse and the Pointstick will continue to work during videos.
Has anyone else ever experienced this before, and if so, was there a fix?

Hi,

Whenever I have my laptop connected to an AC power source, the touchpad stops working after about 3 seconds, at which point the pointer freezes. The Accupoint still works fine, and the touchpad itself works perfectly when only on battery power.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Becky

Answer:Tecra M5: touchpad stops working after 3 seconds if it is connected to AC

Hello

If this notebook is your one I am really confused about this issue but if this notebook is from some your friend please check carefully mouse properties.
I am not familiar with all mouse (touchpad settings) but maybe there are few different profile and you must just choose the right one.

Check please ?detailed settings? under ?Dual Pointing Device? tab.

Well I sure can't find where to post this.  It's not a question it's a solution to a problem that was driving me nuts and I wanted other people to know this. If your touchpad left button stops working and not for the usual reasons - this is what will make it work again.1.  Unplug power cord if plugged in 2.  Remove battery3.  Hold down start button for about 20 seconds4.  Put in battery5.  Reboot I would actually like the whole world to know this as I have googled countless times and never found a solution that works.  I have the Acer Aspire One - not one of the locations listed either. Hope this helps someone!  DonnaB

Hello,I am a proud (but at the moment not so happy) owner of a brand new Thinkpad T61p.I purchased the notebook with OpenDos through a special offer from my university. I then installed Windows XP Home on the machine and updated though the Think Vantage System Update.Since then I've encountered odd behaviour of my internal keyboard and touchpad (+trackpoint). Sometimes all of a sudden they stop to work. Rebooting fixes the problem temporarily most of the time, but not always. Sometimes the keyboard suddenly starts working again without my interference.Does anyone have a clue what might cause the problem or what I can do to try solve the problem?Best regards,VoradorAditional information:BIOS-Version/-Datum: LENOVO 7LETB2WW (2.12 ), 20.02.2008(Bios-update on Lenovo drivers-page is older than the one that came with my new notebook)External keyboard/mouse works fineI ran PC-Doctor 5 from Lenovo but he didn't find any problems.I couldn't find keyboard drivers on the Lenovo drivers-page.Message Edited by Vorador on 04-09-2008 07:04 PM

My son purchased a Lenovo G530-25 and the touchpad stopped working on the second day. I see that on other models there is a sensor button above the keyboard. Is that button on the G530 as well? Also, at this point, the laptop is not booting. It starts to boot and we hear some kind of music (or noise, perhaps) and it stalls. I can't get it to go into setup (F1) or the boot device menu (F12). Any suggestions? Thank you.Message Edited by miriaml on 05-14-2009 07:42 AM

Hi everyone! It seems this tablet is cursed... Ever since I received it, my touchpad had been imprecise and would stop working periodically for no good reason. I tried the various suggestions in this forum and others to improve things and spent countless hours trying to adjust the sensitivity and other settings to get it to work better. I tried all versions of the synaptics driver I could get my hands on (including vanilla versions from the synaptics website, but nothing seemed to fix it. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to do a fresh install of my tablet (hoping to fix this and other touchscreen-related imprecision). The result from this is that my touchpad went from very bad to completely unusable. It stops working at least 4 times a day. It's sluggish. It's unbelievably imprecise, almost as if the cursor moves to another icon on my desktop everytime I position it on the program I want to run and get ready to left click. I would like to know if anyone has ever been experiencing the same issues I am and if they have a clue on how to fix it. You're basically all that stands between my tablet and the window through which I may throw it soon  Thanks, -LP

Answer:X220t Touchpad sluggish / imprecise / stops working

Sounds to me like you have a defective touchpad in your laptop.  These kinds of things do happen.  I have sought a repair under warranty?

Every now and then when my thinkpad edge 11 resumes from standby. The pointer won't move. It makes no difference if I use the trackpoint or the touchpad. When this occurs I have to restart the computer using the keyboard and then pointing devices work again. Does anyone know a way to fix this issue? The problem doesn't occur every time when resuming from standby but sometimes it does.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad stops working after resume from standby

hey won1,uninstall the current trackpoint/touchpad driver for your unit.windows should then install its own generic drivers. now with generic drivers install, place your unit on standby and then resume it.see if the same error occurs. at the same time, head over to >> http://support.lenovo.com and update your unit from drivers to bios.

I have a new, month-old ThinkPad T430, and whenever it comes out of sleep mode the keyboard, and sometimes the touchpad, does not work.  All of the other power management tools seem to work fine, but sleep causes the input devices to just quit. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. There was one occasion where starting it up from a hard boot rendered the keyboard inoperable as well. Is this a driver issue or do I have a defective keyboard? It seems to work just fine on all other occasions.

Answer:T430 Keyboard and Touchpad Stops working after Sleep

Hi, vbertini

This sounds more driver than hardware related. Though there was the instance of the keyboard not working after cold boot that one time, it has worked fine on all other occasions, save it waking up from sleep, correct? The fact that everything works fine more often than not leads me to believe it's the drivers.

The latest mouse and keyboard driver for your system is version 16.2.19.2 and can be found here. I would also recommending making sure your BIOS is up to date, as an outdated BIOS can be responsible for a myriad of issues. The latest BIOS for your system is 2.11 and can be found here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

Adam

I'm working out of a computer repair shop and we've got an L450 that randomly stops receiving any input from the touchpad.  It seems to particularly happen when you try to do anything "complicated" such as move the mouse as press in the trackpad at the same time, or double tap the trackpad to move something. The only way to have it start working again is shutting down and restarting the notebook completely. We've replaced both the trackpad and the motherboard, and it still happens. So it's definitely a software-side issue. It happens on both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, on both the drivers available from the product page and the newer drivers found through having Windows search for driver updates available online. After some research, I'm seeing that Lenovo notebooks seem to be a fairly common problem across many models spanning the last 5 years or so. Anyone got any ideas? The notebook is sadly 1 month out of warranty, so sending it in is no longer an option.

X1 Carbon Touch running Windows 8: The Synaptic touchpad edge swipe functionality stops working mysteriously. I have not been able to determine the triggering event which causes this behavior. The edge swipe capability cannot be recovered in the UltraNav settings; in fact, the settings shows that edge swipe is still set, but it does not work. I can restore edge swipe only by reinstalling the UltraNav driver. This happens at least every couple days, and sometimes more often.

Hello,
My Laptop, an Inspiron 5559 64 bit, running Windows 10, Version 1703, Build 15063.447.
The only recent change, OS was upgraded to Windows 10 Creator several weeks ago. Overall there are no issues, as a matter of fact, I am using the Laptop composing my question.
However, after a period of inactivity, the Touchpad stops responding, frozen, in my estimating it goes to sleep and does not wake up. My trouble shooting efforts include, downloading and updating driver, to no avail. The only way to get back touchpad is to reboot.
Please note, touch screen services remain operational and responsive.
Any guidance troubleshooting the issue will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Inspiron 5559 touchpad stops working after sleeping

Hi ecr1014,
Any damages noticed?
Does external mouse works fine?
Run the diagnostics by pressing F12 during startup and let me know if touchpad responds in that screen?
Update the Touchpad driver and also update the BIOS.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

It boots up fine.  I can log onto Windows fine.  The mouse works fine.  But, immediately after logging inot Windows, the keyboard totally stops responding. Devices are all fine.  Nothing wierd in BIOS. I did a system refresh.  No difference.  I've tried three different keyboards and all of the USB ports.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Answer:keyboard stops working after bootup and login

Greetings, Wow, this is a very unusual scenario! Do you recall anything unusual happening prior to the symptom or did you install a new driver or low level software. Can you navigate "Setup", BIOS, using any or all of the keyboards? I guess you've tried all of the keyboards in all USB ports, including the port where the mouse successfully works? Does the mouse work using the USB ports where the keyboards fail? Have you tried the keyboards on a different PC? Do other USB devices work in the ports where the keyboards fail? You have three possible points of failure: 1. Motherboard, 2. Device (keyboard), 3. Operating System. If you can use the keyboard to navigate BIOS and you can use the keyboard to sign in to Windows, then you have a possible operating system problem. Run a Check Disk. Try a System Restore. Pick a restore point prior to the problem. Cheers!

Description:
My USB keyboard stops working at the login screen. None of the keys are responsive. The onscreen keyboard works fine.
This happens on wakeup after a remote desktop session and after scheduled updates during the night.
In both cases this happens after wakeup, which makes this tedious to reproduce.
The keyboard starts working after unplugging the usb and plugging back or after restarting.
I have this same issue on my work PC (HP, win 10) which makes me believe that this is a windows 10 issue.
I have tested with three different USB keyboards.
Troubleshooting so far:
Energy settings for USB checked (USB selective suspend setting set to disabled)

Answer:USB keyboard stops working at the login screen

I've started to see this issue intermittently a number of times now but I can't be sure when it was introduced
I'm on the fast ring and it was likely either this or the previous build (can't recall the numbers & I'm at work now)
In my case I use a wireless mouse & keyboard and re-seating the dongle/adapter fixes the issue (not ideal but I'm hoping this is fixed along way)
IIRC it doesn't affect the mouse, which you'd perhaps expect
