Satellite L500-20X - WLAN switch doesn't work after Windows 8 Upgrade

Question: Satellite L500-20X - WLAN switch doesn't work after Windows 8 Upgrade

Hello,

I have updatet my Toshiba Satellite L500-20X to Windows 8.
Unfortunately, since this update my WLAN Switch no longer works. All function keys work to F7, only F8 (WLAN switch) and F9 (touchpad) no longer work.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards
Klaus

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500-20X - WLAN switch doesn't work after Windows 8 Upgrade

Satellite L500 is not Win 8 upgrade supported? so I think the problem is a missing driver or software?

As far as I know in order to use the FN buttons the Value Added Package for Win 8 needs to be installed.
Check other driver area for Toshiba notebook series supporting the Win 8.
Maybe you could use the VAP released for other series.

Answer:Satellite L500-13W: How to switch on Wlan with Win 7 - hotkeys don't work

Hi

Hmm?. the Win 7 drivers are not released yet? but I found some beta drives on the Toshiba US page:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp

Maybe you will find some Win 7 drivers for L500/505 series?

Otherwise I would recommend to check if you could enable the WLan in device manager -> Wlan card properties -> Advanced tab?

There are some additional options? maybe the Wlan On/Off would be there too.

Hello,

The Windows 7 RC's device manager doesn't recognize my Wireless Network Adaptater (e.g. : Atheros, Intel, or Realtek). I tried to install all the drivers from Toshiba support, but none of them work :

After installation, they ask me to plug the device on my computer (of course it is yet on the mainboard !).

=> Is there a way to know what is my Wifi adaptater ?

that one failed : http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7201PO000SR01.htm (it's only say "network adaptateur" with a yellow exclamation mark).

=> Does anybody know when Windows 7 Drivers will be released on the website ?

Answer:Satellite L500 13z - Windows 7 doesn't recognize WLAN adapter

Hello

Before you start to install all WLAN drivers that you can find on the Toshiba website you should make sure that WLAN card you have exactly. You can check this in device manager => properties => Details of WLAN card.
There you should an information like PCI\VEN_XXXX & DEV_XXXX

If you have founded this information you search with these terms on this website to determine the exact WLAN card:
http://www.pcidatabase.com/

After this you can download the correct driver for your notebook. Before you install it you should uninstall all other versions and restart the notebook.
Make also sure that WLAN is enabled with the hardware switch and FN+F8.

Hi

I guess you are talking about external HDD which supports the USB 3.0 standard.
Right?

Did you try to connect the external HDD to another USB ports?
Do the USB ports work properly in connection with other USB devices?

Does the USB 3.0 device support Win 8.1?

You should check this.

I've upgraded my Windows Vista to Windows 7 Utimate 64 bit (Upgrade not clean install) for my Satellite L500-126.

Everything works fine except the hotkeys (FN+F keys), the hotkeys worked fine in Vista before upgrade. I want to reinstall the drivers or applications for the hotkeys but the downloads page confuses me a lot. Which driver and applicantion I should download for that hotkeys?

THX!

Answer:Satellite L500-126 - Hotkeys doesn't work on Windows 7

Hi

For the FN keys and all other ?special function? you need only the Toshiba Value Added Package. It contains all drivers that you need for these functions:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

I have installed Windows 7 on my Satellite A300 and Qosmio F50. After the installation of Value Added Package I can successful use the FN keys. :)

Hello,
Satellite L500-PSLJ3E, upgrade to Windows 7 64bit and none of my function keys work with the fn keys. Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility are installed.

Does somebody know how can I solve it?

thank you very much,

Answer:Satellite L500 - FN keys don't work after Windows 7 upgrade

Hi

Have you installed the newest tools from the Toshiba page? If you install both VAP must be installed first and then Flash Cards Support Utility.

Furthermore I would try to clean the registry using CCleaner.

Here in forum are already some threads about this issue. You should also use the forum search.

Answer:Satellite L500 - FN key doesn't work

Hey,

So if your FN keys don?t work anymore, I would recommend reinstalling Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. These tools are controlling the FN keys.

On this page you can download both tools. Just download and install it, after this you should be able to use FN keys again.

Hi,

I have Vista L500 with a dead keyboard. This machine has not been dropped or had anything spilled on it. I have plugged in external USB keyboard which works. The laptop keyboard does not. I have flashed BIOS, updated drivers, held shift key for 10 sec (read on another forum), reset computer, checked Windows Vista updates and ran 3 Virus checks.
Everything is perfect, just no Keyboard?

What else should I check? Could it be a motherboard problem?

Thanks for any help given :)

Can you enter the BIOS (F2 key) with internal keyboard?
If not the internal keyboard seems to be defective and needs replacing?

I don?t think you can do more. I mean you tried everything what is possible and if an external keyboard works the OS installation should be ok.

The keyboard can be ordered and replaced from an authorized service provider. Do you know how to contact the guys?

Now I have wanted to connect my Laptop to my TV again (I have done this before by using an HDMI cable and FN+F5, however not anymore.) but now for the first time I have noticed that the FN key does NOT bring up the menu it used to bring up when I pressed it before and I have no idea what is causing this.

I have tried using google ect to find a solution and the thing I noticed is that when I go in Start>All Programs>TOSHIBA>Utilities other people seem to have "Flash Cards" and "Flash Cards - Setting" now all I have is Flash Card Help, Restart Flash Cards and Settings for Flash Cards. I am just saying this to see if this has to do with the problem anyways moving on.

I would like to know how to fix this problem I already tried to install the Value Added Package but it did not help at all and this problem was probably caused due to me fiddling around with my laptop. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

About a month ago I spilt pepsi on my laptop and had it sent for repair. I got it back today and it had a new keyboard installed, among other things. But, the new keyboard is not functioning correctly.

A bunch of the keys type nearby letters instead. E.g typing "a" gives "aq1", "b" gives "bgt". It seems to type the letters vertically above. Some work fine.

Is the new keyboard faulty, or does it need calibrated or something? My laptop model is L500-19X.
Thanks.

Answer:New keyboard on Satellite L500-19X doesn't work properly

My advice: don?t waste your time on forum expecting some help. How to give you proper answer to your questions?
I have only one answer to your question: no, keyboard doesn?t need to be calibrated.
Contact service provider as soon as possible and ask for help.

I have problem with my wireless switch. Take a look at this [picture|http://bildr.no/view/591716]. It says "bryterstatus: p?" which translates (poorly) to "switch status: on".

Although, when I press Fn + F8, nothing happens. All the other FN + "random button" hotkeys work though. In other words, I can't connect to my wireless. I know that it works, because I can connect with my iPhone. There's also nothing wrong with the connection, I've tried to deactive / active on and off. Tried to restart my laptop. I've even downloaded new drivers. Nothing seems to work. How can I turn on the switch?

Best Regards,
Miguel Rodrigues

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - Wireless button doesn't work

Hello Miguel

Has your notebook ?factory settings? or you have changed something?
Have you installed own operating system or notebook still has original preinstalled operating system?
Is WLAN card installed and listed properly in device manager?

WLAN usage is so simple and by ?default? it must work properly. The same principle is on all Toshiba notebooks same. When you want to use WLAN you must move WLAN switch to position ON and use FN+F8 key combination to enable WLAN card. That?s all.

What you can try is to reinstall Value added package?

Hello

To be honest I don?t know 100% what your problem is.
If you want to watch DVD movie on your computer using Toshiba DVD player but the pic should be shown on the external display please do as follow:

When you have connected HDMI cable to external (other) screen, use FN+F5 and switch to this external display only. When you see desktop on the external display start Toshiba DVD player and I think everything should be OK.

I am using windows 7 ultimate x64 on L500-126, the new win7 x64 drivers have been available since yesterday.....

However, the Flash cards (Fn Hotkeys) still doesn't work after the installation of the new VAP. The flash cards is able to show up at the top of my screen, I can click them by mouse, but the Fn combinations does not work at all!

I've noticed that there is a downloadable driver called "Flash Cards support", even I installed this application the problem still remained.

Then I uninstalled VAP and kept "Flash Cards support", to my surprise, the combination of Fn+F6 and F7 (Adjusting brightness) worked! however, without VAP I could not use other combinations.

Are there still problems with the new VAP for win 7 x64?

P.S. The new "Hardware setup" seems to be a problem as well, I tried to change some configurations in this application but after re-boot all the options went back.

Hello,

I bought a L500 six months ago and now it's almost useless. Trying to operate it by starting it normaly is impossible, taking more than 40 minutes just to start up. Getting any program running or any window open takes many minutes more, if at all.

I have tried restoring the computer to a previous date but it only goes back to two weeks ago and is still facing the same problems. I have checked for bad sectors and not found any. I have also tried doing a CHKDSK but it eventually freezes after a couple of hours during stage 4 of 5, in the following file:
Users\DANIEL~1\AppData\Local\MICROS~1\Windows\TEMP OR~1\Content.IE5\FIA7RO0V\combo[1]

I can operate the computer in Safe Mode most of the times, but when moving information it tends to freeze or slow down a lot. I have been backing up my information and many times it freezes during the process.

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials but it has been deactivated. I can?t get it back on, although I have been constantly using USBs changing information between computers and no virus have been detected in the my other computer.

I do remember that one of the things that first started working strangely were WMP and VLC, as movies saved on the disk and some music albums would start freezing up after 5 minutes of being played, then playing again for a while and freezing later again.

What do you think the problem is? Is it likewise this will be a problem covered by the warranty?

Please let me know w... Read more

Answer:Satellite L500 doesn't work properly even on Safe Mode

Hi buddy,

> Is it likewise this will be a problem covered by the warranty?
It?s only covered by warranty if it?s a hardware malfunction but if it?s just a software or driver issue it?s no warranty and you have to pay for service.

Anyway, it?s hard to say what the problem is but theoretically it could be software related only and even in safe mode you have several issues I would try reinstall Windows from Toshiba recovery disk. This can restore the original factory settings (out of box settings) and with these settings everything should work properly. Then you can make sure it?s no software or driver problem because the recovery image is pretested by Toshiba.

If you still have problems after recovery installation contact an ASP!

The wireless card reports "device cannot start" error 10 when the mem is installed but works when the mem is removed again.
The fault replictes reliably every time I install / uninstall the mem and only started when the mem was installed

I tried the new part alone in the slot where the original part was and it works fine

Anyone any ideas what the issue might be?

I have recenty installed a new Intel 5100 Series 512AN_MWW Mini PCI NIC in the base of my Satellite P100-188 PSPA3E.
However, when installed, it refused to display and boot.

I am assured (reading technical info) that these cards use the same interface.
So why won't it work?
Is a BIOS update required to allow functionality. If so, could someone kludge one together please?

I have the latest 4.70 BIOS installed and am running Windows Vista.
I am desperate for this to work as I already have a Draft N 2.0 AP and would like to use it to its full capabilities.

Answer:Satellite P100-188 doesn't boot up after Wlan card upgrade

Hi

As I understand your message you have upgraded the internal WLan card Intel (Golan) Intel 3945ABG 802.11a/g to Intel 5100 with N Draft support.

Well buddy? it looks like you cannot use the N Draft WLan card in this notebook model.
Seems such card is not compatible and causes these interferences.

As far as I know the Draft N need 3 wires antenna? the Satellite P100-188 antenna supports only 2 wires and can be used only with 802.11 A B or G standard.

Upgraded my Toshiba Satellite A665-11Z from Win 7 to Win 10 a couple of weeks ago. Everything was fine until Windows update ran for the first time. Now, my internal Broadcom 802.11n WLAN card won't switch on, so I can only connect via Ethernet. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest (I think) driver (6.30.223.256), reset Windows, even tried a system restore back to when the wifi was working. No success. Hi

1)May I ask you if you did read the user manual?
You can turn off WLAN using the hardware switch on the notebook. You can also disable WLAN using FN+F8 key combination but therefore the Value Added Package must be installed.

2)I never noticed that BIOS updates improve the performance. Normally they fix only some problems and if you can?t find a change log on the Toshiba website there is no available.

The wifi card died in my toshiba satellite earlier this week, its out of warranty and the toshiba shop wants $200 to replace it with a standard 2.4ghz card.

I have been looking at upgrading it to a 5ghz capable card anyway.
I have found a card which looks good. http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killer-wireless-n-1103/
I am wondering if my laptop will support it?

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L500-o1u012 and the old card was a Realtek RTL8191SE Wirelss LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC half size mini pcie card.

So it?s a mini-PCI card and in my opinion, the WLan card should be compatible? theoretically?

I have a Satellite M35X-S114. Operating System is XP SP2. I've been using wireless in my home for years. Yesterday, my laptop began telling me that it couldn't find my router and that my wireless radio switch wasn't turned on. Well it is turned on and glowing orange as always. I've gone through the Linksys trouble shooting process and it tells me the same thing, "my wireless radio switch is turned off". Do I have a bad switch? I've rebooted several times. I don't see anything unusual in the Device Manager.
I am currently hard-wired to my router in order to get to the internet. That shows the router is functioning just fine, plus other PCs in the house are able to access it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sam

Have you checked if the WLAN card is enabled/disabled using FN+F8 key combination? You can also check it using ConfigFree utility. Be sure the WLAN card is enabled properly.

I have programs such as adobe premiere pro cs5 and adobe after effect cs5, but I cannot install them because I have windows 7 32bit.

So I would like to know if it's possible to back up my files and programs in my laptop, then upgrading windows 7 32bit to a windows 7 64bit in the toshiba satellite l500-02f ?

Thank you.

Hello

I found your notebook on Canadian support page and it is supported for Win7 64bit. With other words you can download drivers from download page - http://support.toshiba.ca/support/Download/ln_byModel.asp

I think you have to check the libary settings of Windows Media Player. In Options > Library you can choose which folders should be monitored. I think you have to monitor the folder where you added the music.

Hello,

I have bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L500-1EV. Now I am with Windows 7 32 bit OS, and I noticed that some of the shortcuts - espacially the "fn-F8" - for switching on and off the wireless adapter and "fn-F9" for toggling between mouse and touchpad input don't work. After I press FN-F8 the wireless adapter is still working and the indicator still lights. After pressing FN-F9 the system keeps on receiving input from both mouse and touchpad.

Am I missing some driver?
Thank you !

Answer:Satellite L500-1EV- Some FN keys don't work on Windows 7

Hi

Have you installed Windows 7 yourself or was it preinstalled on your notebook?

As far as I know for the FN keys you need Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. In your case I would try to reinstall both of them, VAP firstly and then Flash Cards Support Utility.

Check the Toshiba website where you can find both tools! :)

Answer:Satellite L500 - FN+F6/F7 not work after Windows 7 SP1 installation

Hi

Let's try to find out what can be the cause by checking general behaviour:

- Pressing FN only should partly light up a small lamp on the keyboard AND if TVAP was installed with basic configuration should also put some images in the top of your screen. Please explain what happens in your case concerning the lamp and the visual feedback on the screen when pressing and holding the FN button only.

- Pressing i.e. FN + F5 should give You a possibility to switch between display outputs which is visualized on the display with some nice pictures. Let us know what happens when You do this please.

Thanks

I have just bought a microsoft camera as my other older version Trust webcam is not compatible with Windows 7. Surely I would have no problems with a Microsoft webcam? Wrong!

Whereas before on Vista, my trusty trust webcam worked fine on yahoo messenger, I now find that I can go My Webcam - File - Preferences - Camera Settings and then Device Settings, but Camera Controls shows only Exposure. All the other options on Camera Controls are greyed out, including Zoom which I always used on my previous Toshiba Vista laptop. Very frustrating!

Any suggestions?

My G510 came with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. I didn't want that, so I installed Windows 7 instead. After that, I downloaded this driver (WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo G410, G510) using a different computer. I copied the driver to a USB thumb drive. Then I installed the driver on the G510. The driver installed without any errors. However, I still can't enable the wireless adapter. Device manager shows missing drivers for several components (as expected) under "Other devices" but I am not sure which one is the wireless adapter: BCM43142A0 (I believe this is the bluetooth adapter)Ethernet ControllerNetwork ControllerPCI Simple Communications ControllerSM Bus ControllerUniversal Serial Bus (USB) ControllerUnknown deviceUSB2.0-CRWControl Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections shows no network adapters at all, but Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features shows Lenovo_Wireless_Driver is installed. When the installer runs, it copies the files from the "C:\drivers\WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek)\Broadcom\6.30.233.75\Driver\Win8" directory to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Lenovo_Wireless_Driver\Win8" directory. The monitor on my L500-19Z is turning off at increasingly shallow angles - right now, it switches off at nearly 90? open.
Am I right in thinking this is probably the lid switch, and if so is there anything I can do about it?

Answer:Possibly faulty lid switch on Satellite L500-19Z

I think lid switch doesn?t react when the display is 90? open. This switch reacts when the lid is almost closed.

There must be some other problem, probably display connectivity to the mainboard (cable connection to the display).

Is the warranty still valid? Maybe you should contact Toshiba service and let them check your notebook.

I guess you can use the external USB mouse.
Connect it to the notebook and uninstall the old touchpad software / driver from the Windows 10 system. You should find it in Control Panel → Programs and Features.

After the touchpad driver has been removed, reboot the notebook and check for Win 10 updates.

It would be very interesting to know if this workaround would help you to get the touchpad working again.

I am trying to upgrade memory on my Satellite A100-529 (PSAA2E). The system was delivered standard with 1x512MB DDR2 PC2-4200. I installed 2x512MB DDR2 PC2 5300 and the system tries to turn on 5x with no success.

All documentation says that DDR RAM is backwards compatible. Will the A100-529 only take PC2 - 4200?

I'm afraid to tell you, that you can only use PC2-4200 Ram for your notebook. According to the manual page 8-3 there you can find three part numbers for Ram to be installed. Looking for those numbers it turns out the PC2-4200 (533Mhz) specifications.

You can upgrade your Ram up to a maximum of 2GB. Hope this helps you.

Installations order is as follow:

-SD Card Host Driver
-SD Card Driver
-BlueTooth Stack
-BlueTooth Easy Connect
-Mouse driver
-Modem driver
-LAN Driver included with WinXP

I'm currently having issues trying to turn on my laptop's wireless connection. My laptop model is a Satelite A500 PSAR9A O2J001. My laptop's physical wireless switch doesn't work and neither does my Fn keys work (none of my function keys work at all). It was a while ago that I saw a orange light near my laptop's switch indicating that it was on but one day it just turned off. Since then, I haven't been able to turn it back on after lots of googling and this place is my last resort after doing so many things.

Any help or feedback would be appreciated, I'm very desperate to fix this for studies.

Answer:Satelite A500 - WLAN switch and FN keys doesn't turn on wireless

Your description is OK but pretty general so it is not easy to say for sure what is wrong there.
Is WLAN card installed properly (device manager)?
Do FN keys work in general? Can you use other FN+Fx keys? Do you see flash cards when you press FN button? If yes which options can you see when you use FN+F8 (WLAN I think)?

When you move WLAN communication switch in position ON and use FN+F8 what happen exactly?

I've got a L500-19Z laptop and it's set to 'go to sleep' when I shut the lid.
This generally works OK but occasionally when I close the lid it 'locks up' and when I open the lid the keys don't respond.

The only way out of this is to force a close down and then reboot. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?
I'm loathe to restore my system if I can help it.

When contacting Toshiba all they can suggest is using the recovery disc and, if that fails, sending it back to be rebuilt.

Answer:Satellite L500-19Z doesn't always go to sleep

> The only way out of this is to force a close down and then reboot. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?

I think it?s software issue? I mean it could be possible that some background processes are running and affect the standby mode.

The guy from Toshiba is right?. You should always set the notebook back to factory settings (restore OS using recovery disk or HDD recovery) in order to ensure that there is nothing wrong with hardware.

This should be done at first?
So do it and check how the notebook would work!

Heyas!

Mostly the Laptop doesn't start at the first try. The Power-LED lights up, the cooler and the HDD start(sounds like they turn exactly one time) and that's all. After a few seconds the Laptop turns off again. There's no Screen and the LED of the HDD also doesn't light up. If this happens, I start the Laptop again and again. In most cases I have to start 2-3 times, but one time I had to start it 20 times till it worked.

I also tried to start it just with the powersupply(I hope it is the right word for it, i'm german =D) and took the battery out of it but the result was the same.

But when the Notebook finally started, it works without problems.

Greetings,

Answer:Satellite L500-164 doesn't start sometimes

It is not easy to say what the problem is but it is definitely hardware related issue and your notebook should be checked by Toshiba authorized service partner. Using diagnostic tools they can find out why this happen.

Here in this virtual world we can just speculate about possible reasons.

After Upgrade Vista-Home-Premium --> Vista-Ultimate the Hotkeys with the Fn-Key don't work, for example Fn+F6/7 (Brightness).

New installation of value package wasn't successfull.
By the way, after the upgrade the Toshiba DVD Player is defect, too.
Who can help?

Answer:Satellite A200-10N (PSAE3): Fn-Key doesn't work after vista anytime upgrade

I didn?t try any update on my A200 but you can try to do follow: install Vista using delivered recovery media. When Vista starts for the first time go into Control panel and there you can find option ?Add/Remove programs?. Remove all stuff designed by Toshiba.

When all this stuff is removed, make Vista upgrade. After finishing Vista upgrade install all Toshiba designed stuff in specific installations order starting with Value Added Package. Check please download page if all this tools and utilities are available.

As far as I know all tools and utilities are designed as ?universal? tools and I can not imagine there is some difference between tools for premium or ultimate Vista version.

DVD player is part of installations image only and I can imagine that upgrade installation has changed something but the upgrade procedure is responsible for that. I do not see any connection to Toshiba.

As I said I do not have upgrade CD but if I find one I will try to test it on my Vista (Premium) preinstalled A200-1CR.

Bye and I hope you will report about your experiences with Vista upgrade again.

hi

first time on this board in the hope of solving this problem.

I frequently import CDs into Itunes. We have had the L500 for just under a month and I have noticed it does not play some CDs properly. It plays all DVDs just fine just so you know.
For example, I bought two brand new CDs from HMV on Saturday and only one of them plays properly. The offending item when played - the audio from it sounds muted and scratchy more like an old vinyl record on a turntable.

I would assume that since the CD is correctly placed in the tray and pushed in correctly that it will play. However something is wrong but I do not know how to fix it at the moment.

P.S I also tried playing the CDs on my PS2 and they play fine so I am thinking it is something in/on the laptop.

My new Ii've recieved it only today) notebook Satellite Pro L500 doesn't recognize battery. I cannot turn it on without AC. When AC is on, the LED of a battery is glowing orange for a 20-30 seconds, then LED turns off and Windows 7 says, that there's not battery.

I've read on this forum, that I can put my battery in, while the Windows is already going on and I've tryed that, it founds battery for a 20-30 seconds, and starts to charging, but than it's again doesn't see the battery. I've checked BIOS version, I've got 1.90. It is a latest, as can I understand, isn't it?

What can I do with it? Is it hardware trouble and I should post it in service or I can fix it somehow?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500-1T5 - Doesn't recognize battery

Hi Ponny,

What happens if you leave the AC/DC adaptor connected for 24 hours or over night and then you start the notebook without AC/DC adaptor? On first charging it takes a little bit longer until the battery is fully charged.

If this doesn?t work you should contact the shop where you purchased it or an authorized service provider. In this case you should get a new battery for free.

I have Toshiba L500 and I have problem with my software. When I start the Windows the PC freeze and I see black screen and the mouse. I tried to start it in safe mode but then the PC just restart and safe mode doesn't work.

After that I played the recovery CD but the same thing like safe mode....When I start Safe mode with the recovery CD I reach to something but my option is to Erase the whole hard disk. Then I tried to start live Ubuntu CD to take my files but the computer restart again.... I don't have any Ideas if anybody can help me is welcomed :)

Answer:Win7 doesn't start on my Satellite L500

Hi

If you want to backup the date, the Recovery disk would not help you.
The recovery disk set the notebook to factory settings and this means that HDD will be formatted.

If you need the data from the HDD, you could remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using the USB to SATA controller (2.5? USB enclosure).
In such case you could get access to the files on the HDD but this would work only if the HDD would not be faulty?

Hi - two months ago purchased new Satellite L500 - all well and then last week started having problems with charging.

As usual, I allowed the battery to run down to about 10% capacity before plugging in the AC power. Whilst working away noticed that the charging would stop for about 2 seconds, and then reconnect. After a few minutes, it would do it again.
It is charging the battery, but it is now flicking on and off quite frequently - 5 to 10 times per minute. Apart from being off-putting as the screen dims, I am sure that this can only become steadily worse.

I have tried another adaptor - my son also has a Satellite, and the problem is still there, so it is not a fault with the cable.
I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions. I can take it back to the shop from where I purchased it, but that is about 1 hours drive away, and I need my computer every day, so I cannot leave it with them for any length of time, before driving another hour there and back to collect it.

Answer:Satellite L500-13W - Doesn't charge properly

hi merriman,
hope that isnt related to a hardware fault...

try the following:
- boot machine without mains, only battery
- while booting press F8 and dont choose any option, screen will stay (better is to do this with a dos boot disk but..)
- let the battery run empty
wait about an hour and make the same procedure again
this time runtime should be much more shorter!
- connect the mains and let the battery load 24hours without using machine, dont turn on (i think 12 h will be long enough too)
after this run machine without mains until the system requires "more power"
avoid short loading cycles, every load cycle decreases the capacity of the battery
allways ac- power means: every 2 minutes battery is checked and reloaded, this means in a year the load cycles are wasted...

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite l500-137 laptop with vista sp2.
There's a written cd that my dvd driver wouldn't read, the driver can read other cd's & dvd's though.
that mentioned cd is seems to be fine because it can be red by other computer.

any suggestions?

*Thank's*.

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - CD/DVD drive doesn't read CD

Hi

That means only one disk can?t be read from your notebook and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion it could be a problem of the disk, maybe it?s scratched and so it can?t be read from all drives.

In your case I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore you can use a microfiber cloth.

Hello,

just bought a Satellite L500-11E.
I tried to login to a WLAN but every time I activate the LAN with the hwsetup.exe, the settings fall after a necessary restart back to `deactivated`.
Also the light in front of the notebook stays orange. Think it needs to be yellow to show an activated WLAN-card.

So how can I change hwsetups and keep them after the restart.

Thankful for every help

Answer:HWsetup doesn`t keep settings on my new Satellite L500-11E

I really don't know what are you doing but for WLAN card activation use WLAN switch and FN+F8 key combination.
You can put WLAN switch to ON position but enable/disable WLAN card with FN+F8 only. when you use disable option WLAN LED will be OFF.

Check it out.

Hello!

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro L500 and have been having the following problems.
My laptop doesn't start on battery only. The green power light comes on and the stays on with the laptop in a freeze (nothing displayed on screen).
The only way to get this light off is to remove battery.

Starts EVERY time with the AC power connected (with or without battery) - normal lights are displayed when connected.
Works perfectly normal once booted - with or without AC power connected

SOMETIMES starts with the battery only if I boot soon after I have already been using the laptop
I have tried the static release processes but doesn't work. (holding down power button with no battery or power connected etc.)

After having this trouble I updated to latest BIOS but has not helped
Tried a different battery and has not helped
Is a Toshiba Satellite PRO L500 T4400 4GB 15" Win7 Laptop - only 3 weeks or so old

Very annoying!
Please someone with a solution??

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 doesn't start on battery only

Hi

Try this.
Remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor and then wait some time. I would leave it disconnected for about 12 hours.
Then connect both parts again, charge the battery and then remove the AC adaptor.
Then try to power up the unit using only battery.

If this will not help then you should get in contact with your ASP as fast as possible since the warranty is valid and would cover all hardware checks and replacements.

Hello everybody,
is there any way to disable that stupid wlan switch, which prevents any new wlan card to run properly? I've tried to install several different wlan cards: Intel 5100, Intel 5300 etc. Every card was working properly (device manager), but the wlan led does not lit. Windows 7 64 Bit always says, that i should turn on the switch. But the switch is already turined on. I've installed value added package also. The key combination Fn+F8 simply does not work. When i install the old wlan card Intel 3945, then everything works fine: the wlan led lits and so on. Any comments from toshiba support people maybe?
Regards,
Igor

Answer:Satellite A200-1GC (PSAE3E) How to disable WLAN switch?

I've found a solution by myself. I've cut the wire on my WIFI 5100 which leads to the pin 20 on the card. The switch still doesn't work, which now doesn't prevent my card to be working nomally. Now i have full 300 Mbit speed. :)
Another option would be to cover the pin 20 on the card with a sticky tape for example.

Answer:Satellite A500-19N - Wlan switch between On & OFF in battery mode

Hi

You should check the WLan power settings in Win 7 power management and should disable the power saving for WLan in battery mode

I found an great HowTo but for Vista OS.
But the settings are not really different.

Hi

my Satellite P100 turned itself off.
It would not reboot untill i turned the wireless lan switch off.

When it is running, if you turn the switch back on a black screen occours.

Can anyone shed some light .

Thanks

Answer:Satellite P100 crashes when switching on the WLan switch

That sounds like a hardware problem.

So in your case I would go to an ASP. The technicians can check your laptop and exchange the hardware if it is necessary.

But before you go to an ASP try a BIOS update. You will find it on the Toshiba website and maybe will this solve your problem.

Hi,

I have a Satellite L500, which is a new one with Windows 7 home premium configured.

When I logged in for first time, every thing worked perfectly and I was able to browse internet. After shut down, next day I tried to login and tried to open IE, I was not able to open IE. IE is not opening. Also, Windows media player is also not opening.

I recovered Windows 7 once more. But the above happened again.

Please any one help me ASAP.

Do you get an error message if you try to open Internet Explorer or do nothing happen?

Have you also tried another browser like Firefox? Check this!!!

Normally with factory settings all should work properly. Did you install any software after recovering Windows 7?
Did you use the HDD recovery or how did you exactly recover Windows 7?

Hi,

Just bought Satellite L500/01K upgraded to window 7 (32 bit).
Only Fn (F6 F7) key don't work.

Tried to uninstall TVAP and Toshiba flashcards support utility and reintall them, restart the computer and still don't work.
The Toshiba ECO mode utility also don't work but i think this could be because the screen brightness can't be adjusted.

Could anyone help on this matter. Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500/01K - Fn (F6 & F7) don't work

Hi WML,

That means all FN keys work without the FN keys for screen brightness control?

It would be interesting to know which versions of TVAP and Flash Cards Support Utility you have used for reinstalling. On Windows 7 you need the newest versions as far as I know, both must be released for Windows 7.
Check this!!!

If you reinstall the applications, remove all old versions first. Restart your notebook and then install TVAP firstly. After one more restart you can install Flash Cards Support Utility and all FN keys should start work.

Last but not least ECO mode utility should also be reinstalled. ;)

Hello!

Following problem: Since yesterday I have Windows 7 on the notebook, almost everything works flawlessly. Have been no need to load drivers from the Toshiba site, Win 7 delivers with the drivers, the rest comes via Update ...

What does not work is the Wi-Fi switch. Whether on or off - Wi-Fi is always on or in other words, the switch has no function.

Has anyone similar experiences and perhaps the solution??

Thank you and excuse my English

Answer:Satellite L350D (PSLE0E) - WLAN hardware switch has no function

Hi

That?s strange because the WLAN hardware switch should always work because it?s hardware based?

Anyway, in your case I would try this:
-Update the BIOS and load default settings
-Update the WLAN driver

One more interesting thing: Can you enable/disable the WLAN functionality by using FN+F9 key combination?

Dear guys,

I have a Satellite L500-208 (Serial: PSLS9E) with pre-installed Windows 7 64 Bit.
Since some time, the Laptop doesn't go to energy save mode automatically (as configured in Energy Options).

The automatic change "Energy Save" worked some time ago and suddenly, it stopped.
However, I can't remember what changed and possibly caused the problem.

Anything else runs fine and a manual hit on "Energy Save Button" works also fine...

Before you guys suggest a BIOS update, the BIOS is in version 1.60.
Current version is 1.90 (or even 2.00?).
Well, I missed one update and since webspace at Toshiba seems to be very rare, they offer only the latest BIOS version.

Can somebody points me to the old BIOS versions or can anybody give a hint to strange power behavior?

Kind regards
Frank

Answer:Satellite L500-208 doesn't go to energy save mode automatically

Hi

Maybe there is something wrong with the Eco Utility.
I recommend reinstalling this tool.
On the Toshiba European driver page you will find this tool.
After new installation, please check the settings provided by Eco Utility.
Possibly you will need to enable the automatic energy save mode

Good luck

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-1TC and since yesterday it doesn't start anymore.
The picture freezed up and it restarted. Since that I can push the on/off button on my laptop and the LED says that it's on, but the screen remains black.
Any idea what I can do?
The warranty still is active, so can I send it to Toshiba?
Kind regards

(sorry for my bad english)

Answer:Satellite L500-1TC - Doesn't start and the screen remains black

Hi buddy,

What you can try before contacting an official Toshiba services is this:
[Which steps should be followed if your Toshiba notebook doesn't start?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=21]

If it doesn?t work it seems to be a hardware problem and then you should contact an authorized service provider. If your notebook is under warranty, the repair is for free :)

A month ago I throw liquid on my laptop ?? Nothing happened at first, but 4 days ago I noticed that the ESC, 1, Tab, Q, CAPS LOCK, A and Z keys don't respond, don't work. In addition, when I activate the CAPS LOCK with the WIndows keyboard on screen, the CAPS LOCK's LED switches on in the real keyboard.

I've asked the TOSHIBA Technical support and they say it is a physical problem instead of electronic. What do you think?
I've though to buy a new keyboard for my laptop, but the thing is I've got a spanish/catalan keyborard and currently I'm living in UK.

Any advice? Try to order a keyboard from Spain and send it to here could be an option? But where do I get a Spanish keyboard?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Answer:Left side of Satellite L500 13N keyboard doesn't respond

Hi,

When liquid spills on a keyboard it gets into the circuit and membranes of the keyboard and causes it to corrode or short. Basically you need to buy a new keyboard since it's generally not possible to repair it.

A Toshiba repair center may be able to get you a Spanish keyboard, there is an ASP list on the Toshiba website.

Hello

WEll i have a little problem(* VERY big) which is very annoying. My father has bought a new speed line for our house, 16 mbit. Then it turned out that our house is too far and they can only make our internet like 1.6 mbit... Okay. So yesterday they *I think* turned off our internet, to make it a better one. Then they just left us with the same speed. But the problem is, that my WLAN doesn't work. I cannot connect to my router with my both laptops. Though my PC is connected to the router by a wire and works like a charm. I have a SpeedTouch ST780WLT modem by Telenor. I rung (rang, what ever ) to the service of telenor, but they did not helped me by anything. And the service working time has closed before 10 minutes, and will only open tomorrow, and i do need the internet today badly So is there any way to turn my WLAN on so it will work? The lamp lights, looks like everything works, but it doesn't... thanks for any help! and ask me for any details i have missed.

Answer:My WLAN doesn't work

Ehhm....

Now i have another problem... I've managed to get my Sony laptop with Windows 7 connect to the WLAN, setting to WEP and shared. But on my other laptop, with Windows XP, that doesn't connect to the WLAN, thought i have set the same settings as in the windows 7 laptop. IS there anything i miss to enter? The code is right, i know that...

THanks for any further help :>

I have an 4-5 years old Toshiba L500-128 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU. Atm I have a Core 2 Duo T6500. I know that I can put a T9500 in it, but if possible I'd like to put even a better one. So I have a few questions:

1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.
2) Can I put a CPU with 44 or 45W TDP? T6500 has 35W.
3) If answer is yes to both previous questions, can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB and 45W?

Is possible I'd like to put something like T9900 or even a Quad Core.

Thanks in advance :)

Answer:CPU upgrade for Satellite L500-128

>1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.

In my opinion you should check the chipset compatibility and the CPU support.
As far as I know the notebook?s motherboard supports the Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset

On Intel Ark page I could find the Intel mobile GM45 chipset specs and compatible products:
http://ark.intel.com/products/35134/Intel-82GM45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub

However, fact is that new CPU needs to be supported by the chipset and BIOS.
If one of the parts (chipset or BIOS) would not support the new CPU, the notebook will not boot up.

Additionally you should also know that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPUs upgrade.
What does this mean exactly?

This means that even if the chipset would support new CPU, the BIOS could be the troublemaker and would not support the upgraded CPU. From my long experience, there are no information about the BIOS support. Therefore the CPU upgrade is always an risky procedure. Maybe it will work, maybe not?

Im looking to upgrade my Toshiba L500-1ZP
Upgrade includes 2 x 4GB DDR3 1066Mhz a SSD 500GB and changing out the current i3 330M with an i5 580M (tdp on both is 35W)

The only problem im walking against is Bios support for the i5 580M
Did Toshiba make 1 bios version for ALL L500 series laptops?
ifso can any one tell me if there is a toshiba l500 series laptop with a i5 580m cpu?

Thanks in advanced?

Answer:RAM upgrade of Satellite L500

not sure about the bios, but you might wanna make sure that the i3 die is the same as the i5 die (in shape and size). It should be because mobile i3/5/7's are basically all the same 2c4t with different clocks and cache amounts

Hi all,

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit on my *Toshiba Satellite L500/050* which had the same system earlier.

But somehow I managed to mess up my backup partition and I had to try and reinstall all the drivers from the internet but the problem is it is giving weird results.

For the first part the Fn key does not work even after I installed and reinstalled TVAP countless times and the other thing is that my LCD brightness increases when I decrease it and vice versa. (0% had highest brightness 100% has lowest, when brightness is dimmed by the computer it actually increases).

There may be other such problems I don't know for sure now but I think my laptop is not running as well as it used to.
Can anyone give the list or step by step instructions on how to uninstall and install all my drivers for this.

Thanking you inadvance.

Cheers.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500/050 - FN buttons don't work

Hi

It seems that your notebook model belongs to Toshiba Australian series.
Please check this Toshiba Australia driver page:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/download

Here you can find the necessary driver for FN button.

As far as I know you need to install the VAP (value added package) and the Flash Card Support Utility.
