Satellite C650 14U: Does recovery media create recovery partition?

Question: Satellite C650 14U: Does recovery media create recovery partition?

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

Preferred Solution: Satellite C650 14U: Does recovery media create recovery partition?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Create Recovery Media/Do Factory Resect without Recovery Partition

To reset your PCSwipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, then tap Change PC settings.(If you're using a mouse, point to the top-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, then click Change PC settings.)Tap or click Update and recovery, then tap or click Recovery.Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.Follow the instructions on the screen.NoteYou'll be asked to choose whether you want to erase data quickly or thoroughly. If you choose to erase data quickly, some data might be recoverable using special software. If you choose to erase data thoroughly, this will take longer but it makes recovering data less likely.

Hello all, I'm new here. I bought a Lenovo G50-70 at the end of 2014. I want to create a recovery media of my RECOVERY PARTITION. Ok I have Lenovo OneKey Recovery App v8 but with that application I can't create a recovery media of my recovery partition, I can ONLY create a recovery of my current partition (in this case: C: ). I don't want that my current partition has 119 GB. My recovery partition has 15GB, my question is: How can I access there to record it in a USB, DVD or my PC? Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8
http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/satellite-pro/l850/satellite-pro-l850-1uj/

I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data

after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows

IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it

Many thanks for your time...

Answer:Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I hope this is the right place to post this, but I think I have the same problem with my Satellite C650. It keeps wasting DVDs by stopping and saying that it cannot read file E:\ZZlmg\11544XSP.swm and gives an error code 020150-20-00000000. The file is on the DVD. I am using Verbatim DVD-R The Recovery Media Creator is trying to write the first disc and is at the point of verifying the data. Can you think of another explanation for this error other than the cheap DVD option? Thanks

Answer:Satellite C650 - Cannot create Recovery disk - error code 020150-20-00000000

Hi

There are two explanations;
Either the CD/DVD drive firmware is not up to date and does not contain any information about the used disks of the disks (CD or DVD) is not fully compatible.
As you know this happens and is not unusual.

So first of all check if an firmware update is available for your CD/DVD drive.
The Toshiba European driver page is the right place to look for that.
In more info you will find detail if the firmware has been released for your ODD.

If there is no firmware update for your CD/DVD drive, then you should test other disks?

I have a 3 year old C650 and the HDD failed. I put in a replacement disk and trie to recover from the media recovery disks I'd created and although it claimed to have re-partitioned the disk and reinstalled windows, windows startup fails when trying to configure devices 'Could not configure windows to run on this hardware'.

After this error the startup sequence goes into an endless loop requesting to start the installation procedure again.

Thinking that my disks may have been corrupt, I ordered a set of recovery disks from Toshiba. Again, these go through the recovery process and again, Windows startup fails in exactly the same place.

Slightly annoying to have spent ?30 for nothing.

I do have a Windows System Image on my external HDD, but I can't get the machine to a point where it will actually boot so I can recover from that.

Any suggestions on how to proceed welcome!

Thanks
Martin

Answer:Satellite C650, media recovery fails after HDD replacement

That?s really strange. I?ve replaced HDD with SSD on my Satellite notebook and installed original recovery image without any problems.

Try to format HDD before you use original recovery disc.

This will not work. You must use recovery disc.

Hi, I am using a T400, window 7, 32 bits. Yesterday I accidentally clicked on  Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage> Create product recovery media or Create recovery media. I am not sure about which programs I clicked on but it appears an open up window asking me if I want to insert recovery disk, then I click no. It disappeared. It didn't tell me anything( like all the data will be lost and there is no progress box either; it happened very fast like in 5 seconds) and then I find that all my data in hard drive D is gone. I can not see hard drive D anymore in My computer. However I can find the partition titled "recovery partition" with 100% free storage in replace for my hard drive D in the storage management of  My computer and I cannot access it. I am so scared that I don't turn off the laptop 'till now. All the programs are working normal because I installed them on hard drive C but all the data on drive D is lost. Anyone has the same problems? I wonder such a serious software but doesn't have any prior notice to customer that it will cause data loss like this? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L850-19C: Recovery partition deleted. How can i create a new one?

Unfortunately you cannot do it anymore. You must install original recovery image using recovery media and this recovery partition will be created automatically.
Have you created recovery DVD or recovery USB before you have changed partitions structure?

Hello!

I've bought a new Toshiba Satellite L500-19E with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). So far, everything's working brilliant.
I've already created the recovery dvds.
Therefore, could I now delete the partition with the recovery programm? I want to use the full space of my hdd and create partitions as I want.
But I don't know how I should do this?
Could you please help me?

greez

Answer:Satellite L500-19E - Deleting recovery partition and create new

If you are 100% sure the created recovery DVDs are ok you can remove all saved data on second partition.
Open Windows Explorer and on the left side where is second partition listed click with right mouse button on it and choose option FORMAT.
Choose Quick format option and click on START.

After minute or two all data will be gone.

Please note: in the future when you want to use recovery DVD for Win7 installation the whole HDD will be deleted and you will lose all your data.
Using recovery DVD you cannot format partition C only.

Answer:Cannot create recovery media on my Satellite C660D-1CU

Such problem occurs if Toshiba recovery creator tool cannot find recovery image on the HDD. There are many reasons for that. Recovery image can be deleted, removed or HDD partitions structure is maybe changed. Just with original settings and original HDD condition this will work.

Unfortunately now you will not be able to create recovery media or start HDD recovery installation.
What you can do is to order new and original recovery DVD for your notebook model and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Hi,

I've got an old Toshiba Satellite P750 (PSAY1A-01Y022). I have just upgraded my memory from 4GB to 8GB, and am planning to upgrade my HDD from 500GB to 1TB. I have ordered the HDD online and am waiting for it to arrive.

I am still trying to figure out how to create the Toshiba Recovery Partition when my new HDD arrives. I am doing the same for an old notebook, which I have manged to get something similar to it's original factory state.

I have looked at the recovery partition but cannot figure out how it was created. It is not NTFS. Does anyone have any experience in creating a Toshiba Recovery Partition on a new HDD?

And help is much appreciated.

Thank you and kind regards,
Dinesh

Answer:Satellite P750 PSAY1A: how to create the Toshiba Recovery partition on new HDD

Recovery partition can be created when you use original Toshiba recovery disc and install recovery image. Before OS installation starts partitions will be created automatically, recovery image copied on recovery partition and then as last step recovery image installation will start.

Some kind of files migration from one to other HDD is not solution.

Only notebook with ?factory settings? will have well working and usable recovery partition.

...this may be a difficult question but i wil give it a shot....

i have a Toshiba Satellite A100 PSAA9E and a recovery disc set.
In the recovery disc for the OS ( win xp MCE ) there are two iso: PEbase.iso and the HDbase.iso.
After some digging in the ne i discovered what a preinstallation enivorment is and a prepared installation(sysprep) .

Now i'm wondering if it can be so simple to place the .tpa image of the Recovery disc in a partition and install it whit a pe that runs directly from that partition.

The only real obstacle is that there are some .inf and .sif that refear to the install partition statically and may be helpfull to know what was modified from the original version of xp MCE.

I know the question is not easy but i hope in the expertise of the admins

Answer:Re: How to create an instant recovery partition on Satellite A100 PSAA9E

Hi

> Now I?m wondering if it can be so simple to place the .tpa image of the Recovery disc in a partition and install it whit a pe that runs directly from that partition.

I doubt this will function? To be honest I never tested it therefore I cannot say exactly if it will work or not but in my opinion this is not possible?

Newer notebook model are equipped with HDD recovery option but this recovery works completely different. There is an additional menu which helps to start the HDD recovery procedure.

Your notebook supports Recovery Disk and this disk should be used to recover the notebook.

By the way; I?ve got a Norton Ghost Utility. I create my own image using this tool and placed it on the second partition. If something would go wrong with my OS I can restore the whole system using the ghost and the image file from the other partition.

Can anyone advise please - I have a new Satellite U840T with SDD and am trying to create Recovery Media using a USB Drive.

The Toshiba 'Recovery Media Creator 'inviotes me to plug in a USB stick with at least 10.4G. So I have inserted a new 16G USB stick. The app clearly does not see this, even though it is recognised by the PC itself, no problem.

When I press 'create' to load the stick, the app just says "The creating process for all media has been canceled" which is not only poor spelling, but completely useless.

Am I doing something wrong, ir is this just a very poor app?

I have a Satellite T230D running Windows 7 Home Premium. When attempting to create recovery media using a USB drive, the process starts by advising that the USB drive will be formatted.
At this point it fails with the error code 040EAE-57-00000000. The USB drive is left in an unusable state and cannot be reformatted by Windows.

The HP USB Format utility does manage to reformat the USB drive.

Hi and welcome,
One way is to save a recover set ... with OKR ... or better do this Backup before  ...but no way to get a  pure Windows 7 Install Disc if you mention this  ...

And Windows 7 64 Bit will not run on Atom based machine.. i.e. S10/S10e/S10-2 ,S12 Intel/Nvidia ...
(and even when, it lacks of memory 2GB (due the intel chipset restrictions) is good for 32 Bit based systems, but not really enough for 64 Bit based systems, so there is no benefit for use a 64bit on a netbook)

I am working on my sisters Toshiba L655d-S5055 notebook. windows 7, 3gb, amd v120 processor, 250gb drive. Started with error msg at boot "encountered a problem communicating with a device at startup......". Couldn't get by this error. took out drive, inserted into usb-enclosure, and tested. numerous sector errors. She has also lost the recovery disks I made for her. I used partition software to scan just the recovery partition, and there are no errors reported there. What I would like to do, is to copy to a flash drive, or make new recovery dvd's from this recovery partition; then I can use the coa from the back of the notebook (if necessary) for full install onto a new hard drive. However, I can't use the toshiba notebook for this; I can only use my desktop pc for the xfer; using the toshiba hard drive as a usb external drive, and the toshiba media creator software will not install onto my desktop pc (doesn't give me a reason). I would prefer to go the dvd-route, but flash drive would be ok, too. Any info is appreciated. thanks.

Well I finished my project - the program script allows me to create MBR and GPT hard drive partitions with a recovery image partition. The script also allows me to install 3 different versions of windows. and lastly it allows me to capture a recovery (push button reset) image. which can then be used to create recovery media..

Here is the Menu Snippet:
(A) CREATE A "BIOS_MBR TYPE" PARTITION STRUCTURE

Hi,

I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

>I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?
No. if you didn?t change partitions structure this should not be the problem.

Question is: does Toshiba recovery disc creator start or not? If you cannot star this tool it has nothing to do with recovery files.
Can you find this file - C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\TRORDCLauncher.exe ?

Answer:Need Recovery dvd but Satellite C650-17N is too old

Hello,

I have an old satellite C650 (This is what the Toshiba website says....) and I have a problem with Windows 7 restoration. My hard drive crashed and when I receved the new one I tried to restore Windows 7 with the recovery DVD but It didn't work. At the beginning of the Install the directory copy fails at the 'warn html' copy. If I read the DVD on another computer this directory doesn't exist. But during the install windows try to copy this folder and ask me to 'insert the DVD recovery'..... the install can't continue.....
Has anyone the same problem ?

Thank's

Hi, hope I can be helped here,

I have a satellite C650-166, it ran out of battery while doing a standard windows update, now it wont re boot. I don't mind resting the laptop to factory settings, as I was planning to do so anyway.

I've followed the on screen instructions to launch startup repair, but whenever I do this it loads its files then goes to a black screen with just the cursor.

I've tried the, hold 0 way to repair and I just get the same every time, I hit the 'repair your computer' then it doesn't make it to the system recovery options...

I am using an external monitor, but I cant see this being the problem as I wouldn't be able to see the cursor.. surely?

Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance

Hello,

I am trying to find a way to obtain recovery CDs/DVDs for a Satellite A300D-15B. It recently contracted a number of viruses and become non-functional. I did not know about the HDD recovery option and foolishly deleted the recovery partition while re-installing windows. The new installation, however, doesn't have any of the right drivers (of course), and is even the wrong version of Windows Vista, so the Product Key doesn't work (Enterprise vs Home Premium). How can I obtain new recovery media? I've tried searching the Toshiba website, but I haven't had much luck.

Thanks very much for any help!

I bought lenovo thinkpad X230 in January 2013. I made a recovery USB on a 16 GB pendrive. I bought a windows 8 pro upgrade offer as well. But i did not install it at that time and kept it for future use.  About a week ago I installed windwos 8 on my system in dual boot mode making a partition on primary HDD.everything went ok with only problem that my windows 8 did not activate. I was ok with that. But when i tried F11 recovery function, it was not working. So i tried factory reset through recovery USB i created earlier. It opened up and said BOOTMGR missing. Later with some research I realized that i didnt make USB active (bootable) before burning it.(Though this is ridiculous considering, tools provided must have done that. Like when you make windows bootable.) With all this(and me panicking), I tried backing up my data with image i created through R & R tool. After back up, I lost my recovery partition on HDD. And I guess i accidentally deleted System_DRV partition as well.  Though my computer is running fine. I need a bootable media. it would be great if you can provide it. Also if you can restore my comp to factory setting with recovery partition, it would be great. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, You can make bootable media (CD, USB stick or USB HDD) for using with your Factory Recovery Data USB stick.Just launch Lenovo Factory Recovery Disks app from Control Panel, deselect Data media creation, select needed Boot media type. Note you'll need less then 300 mb free space on media.

Hi

I have a Toshiba Satellite C650-110, that seems to be running a bit slow, and some of the Toshiba programs do seem to respond, so i feel its time to restore my laptop back to the factory settings and start again.
Can anyone tell me how I can restore this, I've recently been sent a recovery disk from Toshiba, im a bit surprised as was only sent one DVD and ive had a go but doesn't seem to work.

Do you think a incorrect disk has been sent.. or is it just me being silly and cant do it right?

The only reason i was thinking this, is usually the recovery disk is normally on 2 dvd discs... or loads of cd's.... Its my mistake should of done my recovery disk in the first place.
Many thanks

Answer:Satellite C650-110 - Recovery confusion

Claire I think Toshiba knows what they do and you should not be worried about it.
Try to install OS using this disc.

Start your notebook and press F12 to enter BOOT menu.
Put recovery disc in optical disc drive.
In menu list choose CD/DVD device and press ENTER.
Follow the menu on the screen.

That?s all you must do.

I am trying to fix a friends computer, he has formatted and deleted all the partitions on the hard drive and tried to install Windows 7 but keeps getting the message that the install cannot take place???

It then says the following: ?windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon"

Hey,

> I've tried a standard Windows 7 Home Premium installation disc but it doesn't accept the OEM code as valid when activating online.
I assume you have used the product key on bottom side of your notebook, right?
Well, this key doesn?t work with standard Microsoft disks because it?s an OEM key that belongs to preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba and can?t be used.

If you use a normal Microsoft disk you have to use the product key that you got with the disk!!!

Otherwise you can order a recovery disk from Toshiba but I?m wondering why you didn?t create it:

Hi,

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Hi

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

Hi

can someone please give me a little bit of help?
I am having to buy and install a recovery disk for my Sat Pro C650.
When I get it do i just plug in and play it. I have also lost windows 7 which was pre-installed, or would I then need to also buy a new copy of windows 7 and install that too?

Will it then just go back to how it was when we brought it.
Or do I need to do something else after the recovery disk is installed.

Thanks
Tina

Answer:Satellite Pro C650: Questions regarding Recovery disk installation

Hi Tina

You have to boot from the Recovery disk in order to set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

The Toshiba recovery disk formats the whole HDD and installs the Windows 7, drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities automatically? so you have to boot from this disk and then you have to follow the instruction on the screen.

The F8 and holding O on pressing key doesnt bring up the the menu with the restore option.

Any clue as to how I can extract / use the HDD recovery that I have

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C650 - can't access HDD recovery to restore Win7

Problem is that recovery image saved on external HDD cannot be used. In user?s manuals document is clearly described that notebook owner must create recovery media. This recovery media can be DVD disc or USB stick, depending on notebook model.

All you can do now is to order original recovery disc or to install own OS version using Microsoft installation disc but it is also not the best solution.

What do you think about all this? If you have more questions you are welcome.

i had genuine windows 7 installed in my laptop at the time of buying.I installed windows 8 over it.now i want to reinstall windows 7 again so i need to copy recovery partition from pc to recovery drive.how should i do it?

Answer:copy recovery partition from pc to recovery media

Hi, xyz_111

If the recovery partition is still on your machine and has not been removed/formatted, then you should be able to boot back into that partition to restore your system.

To do this, turn on the machine. As it is going through POST (ThinkPad logo) tap Enter repeatedly. Continue doing this until a menu appears. One of the options on this menu should be to Recover Your System. Press the associated key with this action and follow the prompts. See if this allows you to get back to Windows 7.

Hope it helps,
Adam

What you can do about that? I’m afraid not much.
As far as I know either it works or not and there is no some kind of “workaround”. You cannot force recovery installation to end installation.

Either is recovery image saved on USB defective or your notebook is the troublemaker, HDD maybe.

I presume you have started recovery image installation several times, right?
Does error message occur always after 41% of installation?

If you boot from Toshiba recovery disk what options you have exactly? Normally you can restore the out of box settings if you choose the recovery wizard.

Usually all Toshiba recovery disk have the option to restore the original settings and I can?t imagine that your disk doesn?t have such an option. So please check it again, I?m sure you have an option to restore the original settings. ;)

Hi everyone, I know this must sound like a real stupid title, but please bear with me for a moment: Having wiped my R50p clean with the "Access IBM" button, I noticed that I only had a C drive with 20 GB of which much was in use. In Windows XP Disk Manager I saw that there was a whopping 55 GB on a hidden partition that I only had the option of to "remove", not to activate or anything else. Realising that this was the hidden partition with the IBM restore files, I was hesitant to take any action. After doing some research on several forums I found that the recovery part should only take up 20 GB, which corresponded somewhat to the fact that Disk Manager showed 42 GB of 55 GB to be "free" (if only I could use the free space!). In order to access those magnificent 42 free GBs on the 55 GB hidden partition, I first created a ThinkVantage recovery disc (strangely it was only one CD-R) and disabled IBM Predesktop Area in the BIOS. As a result, I proceeded with deleting the 55 GB partition and it became unallocated space, therefore allowing me to make it a new partition and assign a drive letter (in this case D), doing a "quick format (NTFS)" in order to be able to use the space available, and finally giving me the full 55 GB. Since I had preferred to leave the recovery files on the hidden partition, but had no idea how to access the useful other 42 GBs, I followed the abovementioned procedure. Now my question is whether it's possible to recreate another hidden parti... Read more

Answer:?? Restore Recovery Partition with Recovery Disc after deleting Recovery Partition

pvanedan, welcome to the forum, after reading your post several times I think I understand your situation as it is now. The answer is as follows; which you may not like sorry  You have successfully deleted the recovery partition in order to gain more space, that's the good news  The cd you have created is only a boot cd and not a recovery cd, this would be used to boot your ThinkPad and access a recovery backup which is stored on another hard drive, cd/dvds or over network. It alone is not able to recreate the recovery partition which you no longer have, that's the bad news  I would suggest backing up your files regularly and using an appropriate imaging software to backup your installation. Edit: What I don't understand is; why 55GB? The partition should have been around 4GB, maybe it was full of backups??Message Edited by andyP on 07-03-2008 07:30 PM

How could i create a recovery partition, so that i could reinstall windows xp?
And if anyone can give me extra info that would be real helpful.
thx in advance.

Answer:how to create a recovery partition?

It's a bad idea to make one. You have limited access to the partition, and it is useless if the drive fails. Just use your original CD or make an image of the drive on an external.

I have a computer with the F10 option when I first turn on the computer. The hard drive failed so I have replaced it and installed windows 7. I am wondering if I can create a recovery partition when I turn on the computer and use the F10 option to restore back to when I first installed windows 7?

Answer:Create F10 Recovery Partition

I don't think you can create a partition that will do that by pressing f10, but you can create a system image of your system that is activated and will restore your PC to exactly the way it is when you create the image. You can burn it to DVD, a separate partition or a USB stick. This would be my suggestion to you. Get your computer exactly the way you want it with all your basic and primary apps installed and everything activated. Then make a system recovery image and a recovery disk. To do this go to Control Panel>System and Recovery>Backup and Restore and look on the left hand side of the Windows and you will see both options. Click create a system image and tell Windows where to save your image and it will make an exact copy of your partition. Then it will ask you to make a recovery disk. Follow the instructions on doing that and you will have a backup of your system at it's bare minimum.

Hi all,
I'v trying to create a recovery partition on my Windows 8.1 PC.
I followed the guide here: Restore Deleted Recovery Partition2
I've put install.wim onto my recovery drive (R:\WIN8\install.wim)
When using command prompt to point windows to the recovery drive using:
REAGENTC /SetOSImage /Path R:\Win8\install.wim /Index 1
I receive the message:
REAGENTC.EXE Operation Failed: 3
I've looked around for a solution and i can't find anything applicable.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks!

Answer:Trying to create new recovery partition

I've put install.wim onto my recovery drive (R:\WIN8\install.wim)

you don't make a recovery drive - install.wim does that for you
Create a folder on our C drive - Win81-Recovery
copy install.wm into that folder
right-click the Windows Start screen button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
type in
REAGENTC /SetOSImage /Path C:\Win81-Recovery\INSTALL.WIM /Index 1
press enter
now type REAGENTC /Info press enter

you should get operation successful
that's it

Thank you for reading! Skip to the bold part below if this is TLDR. I've tried searching around for answers, but I'm afraid that I'm just not familiar enough with what I'm hoping to solve to even know if I'm searching in the right place. So again, thanks for your help in advance!

I recently picked up an Asus laptop, a SDD to replace the the laptop's HDD, and a HDD caddy to hold the HDD in place of the CD/DVD drive. After a fresh Win 8.1 install on the SDD, I made system images of both the SDD and the HDD with the Win 8 OEM install (both stored on external drive). I also created a USB recovery drive and then formatted the HDD.

Fast forward a few weeks... It's last Friday. I'm about to leave for a business trip. I boot up my laptop and a screen comes up telling me to "reboot and select proper boot device". I pull the SDD out, hook it up to my desktop, and see that the drive shows up, but it's blank. A little googling turned up a few reviews from other people with the same issue. On rare occasion, it will wipe itself. Using the USB recovery drive and the Win 8.1 system image, I got things up and running again.

Now for my question, instead of constantly carrying around the 2 USB drives holding the recovery and system image, can I create a recovery partition on my HDD that I can boot too if my SDD wipes again? (Could I copy or clone my Recovery USB to a partition on my HDD?) Then I could just keep the SSD system image on the HDD in case I need to restore it, right?

Answer:How do I create a recovery partition on a 2nd HDD

You can always create a System Image Backup on a second internal drive, as long as it is not part of the backup. You could also copy the current WindowsImageBackup folder to the internal drive for re-imaging the SSD.

The term "Image" may apply to many different type of files. For instance, a Windows 8 OEM system image may be a .wim file used to reset the system to factory conditions. The type of file would certainly determine what utility was necessary to recover that image.

A recovery drive will normally have the Factory image of Windows 8, unless you have replaced the install.wim with a new one. But all this does get confusing if the exact type of image being referred to is not known.

Be aware, when you create a Recovery Drive, the entire drive can be used for nothing else. That is why Flash drives are normally used.

Answer:How to create recovery partition??????

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! I am afraid you cannot create recovery partitions if they are deleted. End users cannot do it. If the computer originally came with Windows preinstalled by HP (e.g. OEM Windows), then you can purchase recovery media from HP. They are usually cheap. You can use it to restore your computer to factory default condition. Here is how to do it:>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html And once you receive the recovery media [DVDs or USB pen drive], here is how to use it to restore back to factory/Windows default condition:>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC3sUc3lr3E  If the computer originally did not come with Windows preinstalled, but you installed it on your own after that, then you need to use Windows installation media to reinstall Windows. You can get Windows installation ISO images from Microsoft web site and then burn it on a DVD >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8>> http://www.howtogeek.com/80094/how-to-burn-an-iso-image-in-windows-7/  Please, let me know if this helps and works for you. I have a Flex 14 Ideapad having 25 GB of solid state disc as a different partition. Now I am thinking of creating a system recovery disc in this drive. However I do not see any option of choosing this drive in the dialogue for creating the receovery disc.Could you please guide me as to how to create the recovery disc / partition for Flex 14 laptop on another drive on the computer itself.Thank you in advance

Answer:Create a Recovery Partition

You have a number of misunderstandings going on here. Firstly, all Win8.1 installations have a hidden recovery partition on the boot drive. You need a separate recovery disk/usb stick in case you get to the point where you cannot boot from the main drive. Best approach is to make a recovery disk/stick and choose to copy the recovery partition too, but do not delete it from your PC when it offers. The recovery drive will be bootable (that's the point) so if you managed to get it on an internal partition you would have to make a dual boot configuration. This would be an odd way of doing things and against design. I recommend against such a strange approach.

Hello All,
I have seen this thread: request: HP Recovery partition/dvd of Windows 7. I want to make a recovery partition on a clean install of windows 7. This is what I did:
1. Download HP Recovery Manager for Windows Vista
2. Install it.
3. Go to C:\Windows\SMINST\RAMDSK\Windows\SYSTEM32
4. Run Shrink.exe

Before when I ran it it said it couldn't create a recovery partition. To run it asks me to click next when it says "This installer will create a recovery partition and an initial restore point" and I did. But now when I run it as administrator it says its verifying the file system and it says it is preparing the harddrive for recovery partition creation and gives me an error : "Resizing of the windows partition failed or the disk is not recognized! The recovery partition cannot be created.you may try to delete files i the Windows partition, defragment the drive and/opr use a 3rd party tool to reduce the windows partition in size.". I tried everything.

On the screen it gives me the error it said it will restart the PC in a few seconds and it counts down and it shows click finish to restart. When I wait or click finish it just closes and does not restart my computer.

I reinstalled it lots of times.

In Shrink.exe.log it says this:

Code:

Answer:Create HP Recovery Partition

Why do you want a Recovery partition on the same HD, which can fail and lose the ability to recover.

A much better plan is to save a Win7 backup image externally so you can reimage with the Win7 boot CD/DVD in 20 minutes to the same or a replacement HD.

I would also consider with HP getting a far superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Answer:How to create recovery partition?

There are a couple of items you would have to do. First create a new partition, format it with FAT32 and make it bootable using DOS or The version that comes with Ghost. Create your image using Ghost or Acronis and save it there. You will have to install the imaging program on the partition as well put it in a folder called Ghost. Then you will need to create an AUTOEXEC.BAT file to load Ghost on start up saved in the same folder. I would make the parition bigger this way you can keep a few different images stored if you want. Finally you will need to alter you Boot.ini file. Create a copy and save it somewhere easy to remember first in case you make a mistake and need to restore the old one.

The boot.ini should look like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\Ghost="Recovery Partition"

You can change how long the wait in seconds is by altering the timeout value.

hi, Folks

i run windows 7 and wanna make a recovery partition hitting the F key on startup like toshiba's one. The toshiba recovery utility is no longer available. Who can help me to do it?

Thanks in advance

Answer:How to create a recovery partition?

Hello

1.) On Toshiba notebooks there is no recovery partition. They only have an image of factory settings stored on second partition in HDDrecovery folder. This recovery procedure can be started in advanced boot menu of Windows (F8) and if you select ?Repair my Computer?.

2.) It?s not possible to create such a partition and then you have to press only one single key to start this. I think it?s pretty complicated to create such a recovery partition.

3.) You can create your own image using a backup program like Acronis TrueImage. Save this backup on the second partition or external HDD. You can restore this image using the Acronis boot disk. It?s very easy and I do this on my notebook too.

As I posted under different thread, my Windows 8 computer crashed a week ago.
A Dell technician replaced a new motherboard. Then, Windows 8 was restored using a provided Windows 8 recovery media DVD. Now, windows 8 runs super.

What I now found was that the original recovery partitions were disappeared. in the main hard drive.
I could not create a recovery drive (in flash drive) without recovery partitions in hard drive.
Is there a way to re-create the original recovery partitions ? If so, how?

Why not, after installing, updating, etc. to where you want to create a recovery partition, why not just clone the HD? That way, if the original HD goes, you just pop in the 2nd one and you're back up and running. Just a thought.

I've successfully created a Windows 7 Recovery partition as follows in the past, but when I try this with the Windows 10 Installation DVD or flash it says permission denied:
Windows 10: Create a System Installation Partition to install Windows (Installation Partition, not image)

1.) Boot From the Windows 10 Installation USB Flash drive and choose cmd from troubleshoot.

2.) Create a 16GB partition at the beginning of the hard drive, then partition the rest of the hard drive as you wish as follows:

Diskpart

select disk # (note:where # is the number of the partition in the output of the list disk command.)

Create Primary Size=X (where X is in megabyte hint: 16 GB is exactly 16384MB)

3.) Copy the entire USB Flash drive on to the 16 GB partition and make the partition bootable.

Open the command prompt and type this:

diskpart (note if not already in it)

list disk (note: disk number next to disk)

list volume

select volume # (note:where # is the number of the partition in the output of the list volume command.)

list partition

select partition # (note:where # is the number of the partition in the output of the list partition command.)

delete partition # (note:where # is the number of the partition in the output of the list partition command.)

select partition # (where # is the partition you want to format on the disk note the number beside partition in the list partition output.)

create partition primary size=16384

I'm using Windows Vista and I'm trying to achieve this...

1) Copy my C: Drive partition to a DVD
2) Have that DVD be bootable and be able to recover the entire partition back into the partition.

I've got my Hard Drive partitioned into 4 parts
C: - OS
D: - Documents, Program Files, AppData (and other windows folders)
the other two are not relevant.

So basically if anything goes wrong with my OS I want to be able to throw the DVD in and boot to it, have it restore the C: partition.

So what software would I use to do this?

Answer:Create a bootable Partition recovery DVD

Acronis True Image will let you "image" your entire drive or partition to CD/DVD media and restore it at a later time. The backup set itself will not be bootable, but True Image will create a bootable CD version of itself that you can use to run True Image natively (meaning you boot from that CD, load the application, remove that CD and then put in the backup CDs/DVDs and do the restoration, or use True Image to create new backup sets).

There's nothing on the market today that will automagically create a bootable backup recovery set; the only one product that ever did that automagically was Powerquest Drive Image. It would put the actual application on the first CD (it didn't burn DVDs when it came out and disappeared before DVD burners/media even became popular) and you could use that backup set to restore.

The only difference with True Image is you need the TI recovery CD + your backup set, hardly a big problem. You can burn off multiple copies of the recovery CD as required, one for each set if necessary.

Good luck...

ps
It's possible to create a recovery set using Norton Ghost and then you can create a new CD and put the ghost.exe executable on the CD, but you'd still be required to do other steps to make that CD bootable in the first place so you could then access the ghost.exe file to run it. A bit more hassle than most people care to bother with, I believe. But it's possible... and you can use other imaging tools to do similar tas... Read more

As with most new home computers these days, the manufacturer will include a bootable recovery partition on the hard drive instead of sending you a recovery CD.
I?m currently building a new system with windows 7, and after installing some of the most common applications I want to create a bootable recovery partition on the hard drive, as well as a bootable image on a CD.
The question is I?m not really sure how to do this?
I know of programs such as Norton ghost and Acronis, but I was looking for an easier solution, perhaps a free program?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

In a fit of over zealous tidying up after installing Win 10 on my lappie, I deleted the 450MB Recovery Partition that the upgrade from Windows 7 created at the end of the main partition.

1) What was actually in that partition and why would I want it.

2) If I do want it, how to re-create it ...?

Thanks

Answer:Re-Create that 450MB Recovery Partition?

Recovery partition is where Windows stores the WinRe.wim which allows you to create a recovery disk or get into the recovery environment to repair/Trouble shoot/Restore/Reset/Refresh etc...

Now that you've deleted it. Those features won't be available and you won't be able to create a USB Recovery disk.
