Preferred Solution: Documentation for the Dell Dock (WD15) and the Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB15)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Dell XPS 15 and a Dell Dock WD15 which has been working fine for a long time but recently the WD15 dock has been acting up after it is re-docked to the laptop.
Everything works fine if I start the laptop with the dock plugged in but after re-docking the USB ports and Network (cabled) stops working. Everything seems fine with the drivers and as said it only happens after re-docking.
I've tried to rollback drivers and even downgrade the FW on the dock but the problem remains. The only way to "fix" it seems to be to restart the laptop after re-docking.
Running Win10 64-bit.
Any suggestions?

Hi All
I am posting my first post here... I've reading all posts regarding usb-c dock issues. I have fallen victim too... I bought brand new Dell WD15 dock and before begin i install latest drivers and still get under power warning! Please see photo attached!
I spent hours with Dell support and they advice me to clean install and install drivers in right order, so wasting almost a day i did all this and problem don't go away!
Aside the power warning the display randomly disconnects... leaving me no screen at all (the laptop screen doesn't switch back either) and now laptop gets very hot, making me wonder if i somehow damaged the laptop itself?
I will return this item but wonder if this can somehow have damaged my brand new $2500 laptop? Super disappointed with overall experience... 10k + dell products in past and this is as bad it can get, making me question buying anything from Dell both for personal and business :-(

I'd like to use Dell Dock (WD15) with my new Dell Alienware 13 R2 via Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C).It is possible, isn't it?If so, could the laptop be charged via this docking station? What is the difference between 'WD15 with 130W Adapter' (Dell part 450-AFGM) and 'WD15 with 180W Adapter' (Dell part 450-AEUO)? Which one to choose for my purposes (external monitor via VGA, network via RJ-45, external USB keyboard, USB headphones, USB Flash Drive)?
Please, advice. Any answer would be appreciated.

After the latest WD15 dock update there are two bugs:
1. The Dell Dock Update 'Updates Complete' popup continually appears when any device is connected to the dock or the attached XPS 15.
2. All audio is lost whenever any USB device is plugged into either the XPS 15 or the dock itself. Audio continues to play (ie through spotify) but there is no sound. Unplugging the audio jack on the WD15 and reinserting appears to fix this bug.

This process has gone on for two months.

Return it. No amount of software/firmware updates is going to make this device good. It has several hardware issues.

The thunderbolt cable to by Dell Dock was damaged. I figured out how to remove the cable (there are screws hidden under a rubber cover). However there is a very strange (proprietary?) connector on the other end. Where can I buy a replacement. Dell sales and support don't seem to know anything about it.

Hi
I Just bought TB15 and stated using it.
The problem, however, is that my XPS 13 becomes pretty hot when it is connected to the dock.
It becomes hot and operates fan even for normal light uses like web surfing or listening music.
Is it normal issue that all the user have or abnormal?
Thanks!

Additionally, when i connect intel realsense camera to TB15, all devices connected to TB15 is disabled and does not work. The laptop must be restarted to be operated normally.

I have Dell Precision 5520 laptop connected to Dell WD15 dock.
There is a Dell U3011 2560x1600 display connected to MiniDP of the dock.
The laptop display works in 1920x1080 mode, in order to get DPI similar to the one on U3011 (that's on purpose I'm fine with that).
Today I tried adding the third display with 1280x1024 resolution connected to VGA of the dock.
It doesn't work. The third display gets detected by the Ubuntu display settings, but it can't be turned on. It works only if I unplug U3011.
It is also possible to run all 3 displays in mirror mode, but not in extended desktop mode.
Is it a hardware limitation (Intel graphics in Precision, WD15 dock) or just problem with Intel Linux graphic drivers?
BTW: Nvidia card is turned off.
From  the WD15 and laptop specs it looks like the config I'm trying to do should be supported:
- 1920x1080 builtin laptop screen- 2560x1600 through WD15 and miniDP - 1280x1024 through WD15 and VGA

Any ideas, what I can try?
Thanks,
Piotr

Answer:Dell WD15 Dock - problem connecting VGA monitor

You can't use a DP monitor with a resolution that high and a VGA display all at the same time.  USB-C docks only have HALF the bandwidth of a full DisplayPort 1.2 output because the pins that would normally be used for the other half, e.g. if you were using a USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter are instead being used to carry USB 3.1 traffic to enable the ports on the dock -- see my thread about this here.  If you had a 1080p display on your mDP port you'd be fine because there would be enough bandwidth left for your VGA display, and mirrored mode works because the PC only has to send the image out once and rely on the dock to do the mirroring. If you wanted enough bandwidth to run a 1600p display AND a 1080p display simultaneously, you'd need a Thunderbolt Dock, which gives you two full DP 1.2 outputs.  That's double what's available on a USB-C port when used solely for display and 4x what you have available when using a USB-C dock.

I've got a WD15 hooked up to my XPS15 laptop and it works fine. Latest drivers and chipset/BIOS installed on both Dock and laptop.
I have a pair of external active studio speakers hooked up to the 3.5 mm Speaker out jack on the back of the dock and it works fine.
However if I use Google Hangouts or Skype for business calls and plug in a headset to the front 3.5 mm Headset Jack of the dock the external speakers starts a high pitch static noise. If I then un-plug and replug the 3.5 mm jack for the speakers the noise is gone. The sound and mic of the headset is working fine from start.
The same thing happens when I unplug the headset from the front of the dock, the external speakers starts to "hum" static noise. Again un-plugging the 3.5 mm jack of the speakers and plugging it in again stops the humming static.
If I instead plug the headset into the Laptop there is no problem and the external speakers remains quite.
Why is it doing this and how can I get rid of this annoying behavior?

Greetings,
Have a new WD15 Thunderbolt dock I am trying to get to work with two monitors connected to an ASUS GL552VW laptop. USBs, ethernet and audio that is connected to dock all work fine. But the VGA and HDMI monitors connected do not. The HDMI monitor works fine when I directly connect it to the laptop, but not when I connect it through the dock.
I have tried the troubleshooting tips in this:

I have installed the ASMedia Host Controller from here, twice for good measure:

ASUS support refuses to help me. I'm working on seeing if I can do the BIOS update.
Any advice? Will this not work with a non Dell laptop?

I recently purchased a Dell Thunderbolt dock for my Precision 3520. I hooked up my Logitech universal receiver to the Thunderbolt dock. The mouse and keyboard have significant lags (the keyboard repeats itself periodically). As soon as I move the receiver back to the laptop, the lags disappear. The problem is so bad that the mouse and keyboard are basically unusable when plugged into the Thunderbolt dock.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with either a Dell or other brand Thunderbolt dock? Have you been able to resolve it?

Answer:Dell Thunderbolt Dock

The Thunderbolt is for displays and such, not for the keyboard or mouse. Having the USB-C ports there are for faster speeds to SSD's, etc.. You do not need it if you are not going to use 4K/UHD displays, which is what the technology ws created for.

Sometime soon USB may go away if Apple keeps pushing the Beige Box manufacturers to go that route, which will never happen, because the Beige Box manufacturers thought that Firewire was a joke and now we do not see it used much anymore.

As for lags, check the drivers and try to keep the Keyboard and mouse attached to the physical computer, not a dock that is used for 4k tv's.

Hi,
I recently set up my XPS15 with a TB15. Everything is working well so far, however, when I plug headphones into the front-facing audio jack I still hear the audio through my desktop speakers (plugged into the back of the TB15) and not my headphones.
Ideally, I would like to be able to keep the headphones plugged in and simply switch back and forth before outputs with some Windows 10 option. Is that possible? If not, how to I get just the headphones to get audio?
Thanks!

I just bought a Dell TB16 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 dock for my Dell XPS 9550. I updated the BIOS and drivers for both units using Dell Command Update, but now every time I boot up my computer I get a message stating "your PC may need updates for the Thunderbolt 3 port to function properly. For more information go to thunderbolttechnology.net/updates". That link, in turn, refers me to the Dell page that tells me to do the updates I've already done.
It's annoying to get this message even though everything appears to be up to date. Anyone run into this and have a solution?

Hello,
My XPS 13 crashes each time I try to connect the dock with Intel Thunderbolt program. I have updated the BIOS, and did all the firmwares and drivers listed in TB16 installation.
What shall I do?

Answer:Dell XPS 13 OS crashes when configured to use TB16 Dock in Thunderbolt app

Which version of the XPS 13 do you have?
Did the software and Firmware update install normally without the Dock attached?
Have you tried running the Dock without any outputs connected?
Did you get any popups related to allowing certain connected devices?
Look in the Settings and Details to see what TB controller you are using and if it does not show as Unknown.

I have a Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 - 240W docking station for the XPS 15 9560. It comes with a 0.5m USB Type-C Thunderbolt cable. Is there a longer cable, such as a 1m cable available for the TB16?
The TB16 was shipped from Dell with an instruction booklet entitled "Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) Dock Cable Installation Guide." The book has instructions on how to remove the shipped cable and replace it with some cable that is received as a separate shipment. Does anyone know the purpose for those instructions?
I'd like to suggest that the above questions would be a nice addition to the TB16 FAQ... adding some info on cable length, cable length restrictions, future plans for differing cable lengths, etc., might help users such as myself. I see others out there which have concerns about short cable length so that's why I think the answer to the above would make good TB16 support KB articles or FAQ entries.
Thank you!

Answer:Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 Maximum Cable Length

The included instruction guide is just in case you need to remove the cable for replacement.
My cable is around .4 meters or 16 inches.  I do not know of other length cables are available.

We have a Dell Precision 5520 that uses a TB16 docking station that all of a sudden is having difficulties connecting to our VPN. It was fine earlier in the day. We tried clearing the DNS cache and tried a winsock reset. THe drivers are up to date and everything.
Also tried to reboot the computer multiple times.
Even tried a K17A Dock and had the same issue.
We were finally able to get the computer to connect to the vpn once we used a usb net adapter to plug the ethernet cable into.
Tried plugging the usb adapter into the computer directly and into the dock. It worked whether it was directly connected to the computer or the dock.
It only does not work when we connect the ethernet cable to into the lan port on the TB16 and K17A dock. And only for the one computer.

At a loss, any ideas?

Hello,
I have problem with connecting my Dell XPS 15 with my working station.
I have TB Dock and connected on it 2 monitors, Ethernet cable, USB mouse and keyboard. When I finish work, I just unplug TB and carry laptop with me. When I get back, and connect TB port again, laptop doesn't see my USB devices ( mouse and keyboard) and does't see my cable Ethernet connection.
Am I missing some software maybe or something? It's really inconvenient to restart laptop every time I connect it to TB Dock

I just purchased an XPS 15 9560 with a TB16 dock and I'm hoping to use the dock and my old Apple Cinema display, but I can't seem to get the monitor to work in the dock. I have just received the TB16, that I use with my Precision 5510. I have connected my mouse and keyboard with the Logitech Unifying Receiver on a USB port. The connection works, but the mouse freezes about half of the time, and the keyboard misses many of the keys typed. So it is basically not usable. When the receiver is plugged directly into the computer's usb plug, the mouse and keyboard are perfectly smooth.
I have tried to connect the received on a DA200 connected on the Thunderbolt port of the TB16. This also works smoothly. So the problem only comes from the USB ports of the TB16 (both USB 2 and USB 3 ports).

Answer:Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 -240W & Logitech Unifying Receiver

Do you have any wired devices you could check.  It wasn't long ago the Logitech wireless devices had problems with Win 10.
Otherwise, there are threads about the TB16 and Bios updates on other systems concerning USB compatibility.

I just received a Dell UP2516D 3K display which works great when directly connected to the mDP port of the laptop. When connecting the same screen to the DP port on the dock, the screen detects the cable connection, but never receives any signal. I'm using the mDP to DP cable which Dell shipped with the screen. I was able to detect the firmware version of the dock using the 1.0 firmware updater. It has version 2.24.00 installed. My laptop has the latest Intel Graphics drivers installed (20.19.15.4331) from Lenovo, the latest driver for the Onelink Pro dock (1.08.36). I first thought the issue was with the cable, but connecting the screen and the dock with a high quality 1.2 DP cable doesn't change anything. The screen works fine when connected directly to the laptop and it too has the latest firmware installed. Defective dock? I may try it with a diffrent screen on next week by taking the device to work, but I was hoping it would "just work". Any thoughts?

Answer:Lenovo X1 (20BS) and Onelink Pro dock can't connect to Dell UP2516d 3K screen using dock's DP

In the device manager, check if you have a yellow warning triangle for the graphics card ? Mine works kind of the same way ? connected to the PC the signal is OK, using the Pro dock ? no picture. My problem is the Driver for the Intel HD Graphics card. When autoupdate and I get the latest driver ? no signal, I then manually have to install an earlier driver and I am ok until autoupdate again

Answer:Dell TB15 Desktop Dock - Step-by-step driver/firmware/BIOS installation instructions for XPS, Latitude and Precision notebooks [UPDATED 04-22-16]

Unfortunately I see no updates to firmware or drivers from what I already have for the TB15 and my XPS 15 9550. I have experienced issues with the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver (generating BSOD's) and the mini-Displayport connection from the TB15 to an external monitor (screen blanks out). Time is running out for me. I will be forced to return my TB15 this week.

Answer:Dell WD15 Desktop Dock - Step-by-step driver/firmware/BIOS installation instructions for XPS, Latitude and Precision notebooks [UPDATED 04-22-16]

Hi Brian
Thanks for being active on this issue. (This thread was closed - so had to use the TB-15 Thunderbolt thread above this one). Thanks for opening this one for WD-15
I've been having  most of the problems mentioned in the other Thunderbolt dock  thread .. USB problems, fan noise, not recognising on startup,
I tried the driver list above (for 5510 win7 64) and some refused to install because they were for xps product not  precision. However I when on 5520 support page (for the nth time) and found a new USB driver. ie > Chipset_Driver_V2WY5_WN32_1.16.32.1_A01.EXE
I've installed that but NOPE ... still has USB problems eg stuff like usb (2) keyboard not working. BUT unplug/replug the dock at USB C connection at laptop and it works !! (but this is a PITA and probably will wreck the socket in the long run).
I guess my point is please sync the support page and this support forum if you can, we all love Dell but would appreciate some reciprocating :-)

Thanks in advance,

I have just bought a Dell XPS 15 (9560) and a Dell WD15 docking station with 130W power brick (same wattage as the laptop's AC-adapter). When I only use the docking station to power the laptop the discrete graphics card (GTX 1050) does not seem to work. When I am in a game (eg. Starcraft 2), I get like 15 fps with the NVIDIA recommended settings. Then when I plug in the laptops's own power brick (while still in the game) I get an immediate four-fold increase in framerate. When I unplug the laptop's own power brick the framerate drops down to 15 fps again in a heartbeat. Furthermore, when I only power the laptop through the docking station, I cannot even find the discrete GPU in the list when I'm trying to run the Geekbench 4 compute benchmark (OpenCL). Only the integrated graphics shows up. When I plug in laptop's power brick I find GTX 1050 in the list.
I have run the Dell Command Update application and all my drivers and firmware are up to date.
Does anyone have any idea to what the problem could be?

Hi there I have a Lattitude e7470 and i am trying to use it with a Dell E-Port Replicator K07A
The system works OK except for this one scenario.
Laptop is docked and closed and i am working on it. I go to undock the laptop to take it with me somewhere and it does not go to sleep. The power policy says that if the lid is closed and the laptop is on battery then it should go to sleep. Whats going on?
If i undock and immediately open and then close the lid it behaves as expected. Obviously for my user, this is not ideal. he just wants to be able to pick up the laptop and go (having it sleep or hibernate when removed from the dock)
How do i force it to go to sleep when i remove it from the dock? there has to be a way. Laptop is windows 10.

Can anyone help with the issue I'm having of an error message every time I startup my Laptop

- Dell Inspiron I1720
- running windows vista srvice pack 2

The message is "Dell dock language file which is needed for it to run failed to load"

I have trawled through the various help pages both on my laptop and on the Dell help website but to no avail. If anyone can help I must advise you that I am completely computer illiterate so I would appreciate very simple or even childlike explanations. Thank you so much to any one who does resond.

Putting together my "new" home network. I have 3 laptops (Dell Latitude D820 - Win 7 Pro, Dell Latitude D620 - Win XP Pro and Lenovo T400 - Win XP Pro). I have a Lenovo port replicator/dock and a Dell PR01x port rep/dock. I have just bought a new Rosewill RKV-2U USB KVM. With the 2 XP laptops, all works great. But if I dock my Win7 Dell D820 laptop, the video comes up but the keyboard and mouse do not - using the same port rep/dock that the Dell D620 just came off of. I noted the Rosewill KVM port light flashes while "detecting/enabling" the devices when switching to the other port and then go steady when ready to work. But with the D820/Win7 the port light continues to flash. I checked the Rosewill site and they say it's compatible with up to Vista, but doesn't say yay/nay about 7 - so my guess is it SHOULD since it works with Vista. I can't find any info from Dell about Win7 compatibility with their PR01x port rep/dock.

Dell D820 laptop is running Win7 Pro x86, 3GB RAM, BIOS A10 (latest), all drivers up to date, all software (OS, etc) up to date.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Dell XPS15 + TD15 is the biggest fail of 2015 and 2016.
This is unbelievable example of software team incompetency.
If XPS15 works in common stable after 6+ months after sales started.
While TB15 not only lags, but every new software update adds new lags and bugs, even not always fixing previous. This is unbelievable worst software processes.
And this is one of the best PC laptop and one of the best Thunderbolt dock.

The problem is not new:
I have Dell XPS15 9550 + TB15.
Sure this doesn't work with a closed lid with any configuration.
But it doesn't work even with opened lid. I used this manual to configure and update drivers/firmware.
It was working for me in June, and first part of August (sure with lags, but I was able to work with this).
But then, suddenly %), without any updates, lags frequency increased. And my external monitor became turning off every 1-10 minutes. Sound and mouse too.
Without any updates, like a magic.
After updating from scratch of all drivers and firmware (the same manual), nothing changed.
Actually I think monitor works with more lags.
As a customer who used V131 laptop, Dell monitor for many years, it looks like that were last products I purchased..

Just received my 4th XPS 9550, previous onces had faulty motherboard, keys falling off, and faulty hard drive). I updated everything straight off of the dell website, including the bios. But I still can't get my thunderbolt dock to work. I plug it in and makes the noise indicating something is being plugged and unplugged. It looks like it can't decide between being on wifi or LAN and the Realtek USB GbE family controller keeps on disappearing in the device manager. I have updated that drivers as well.
XPS 15 9550 i7 500GB SSD 16GB RAM Windows 10 64 Pro
The dock will somewhat work if I don't have the LAN cable plugged in the back. I can't use any wireless devices (mouse) plugged into the dock because it stops working after a minute. I've also noticed the ASMedia USB controller has fault icon on it. Tried updating those drivers. Every once in a while, the second monitor will go in and out.
I have conducted all their diagnostic tests and all are good.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm a student and need my laptop everyday. If this is another hardware issue, I'm going to return it. I doubt the 5th unit in 1.5 months will be any different.

Answer:XPS 9550 not working with TB15 Dock

If it's of any consolation, we are all experiencing the same problems:
1) LAN disconnecting2) USB devices connected to the dock disconnecting3) External monitors blanking out for a few seconds4) Fans ramping up and extremely noisy when dock is connected.
It's not the laptop (I replaced 3 for the same reasons you mentioned). It's most likely (or at least I hope so) the thunderbolt software/firmware.
I'm still trying to decide whether to return my TB15 or wait for Intel/Dell to fix this...

You can use MSconfig to diagnose startup issues. Visit the following link for details;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iku_aPUsVQ4

You can post back with any questions regarding your system services and startup entries to establish their purpose and whether or not they are required at startup.

Taskbar icons are just shortcuts and do not effect the time it takes for starting a computer.

I have a new XPS 15 9550 and a TB15 dock.  Thus far, the road has been long and hard to get this PC operational.  One of my couple remaining issues is that when I plug an ethernet cable into the TB15 dock, it appears to crash the dock.  I lose video and audio output from it.  To recover, I can unplug the ethernet cable, unplug the Thunderbolt cable from the PC, wait a few seconds, and then plug the Thunderbolt cable back in.  I have installed all of the newest network and dock drivers for the XPS 15 9550.
Is anyone else having a similar problem?  Any ideas on what I could do to resolve it?
Thanks!

Answer:Using Network Cable Crashes TB15 Dock

This procedure seems to solve the ethernet issue with the dock:
Go to the properties of the WIFI, "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections", Right click on the WI-FI adapter, Properties,  Configure,  advanced, Power output. Change it from 100% to 75%.

Hello,Everyone appears to have issues with the dock such as a port not working or stuttering or resetting. But I am not having ANY of these issues. The only issue I am having is I cannot close the lid with an external monitor. I have already changed the settings on the XPS 9550 to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed both on battery power and without. I also plugged it into the power adapter just in case.
What happens when I do close the lid is the external monitor goes to sleep and ALL peripherals connected no longer work (including display) after opening the XPS again. I have to restart the computer for the dock to work again.
No overheating issues, no fan issues, no stuttering, other than this small problem. Anybody have any solutions?

Answer:XPS 9550 TB15 dock combo, closed lid issue?

This isn't a TB15 issue. I've seen the same problem with third-party USB-C video adapters. I believe it is a power management problem. If you're using Windows make sure your power management features are configured so that when the laptop lid is closed Windows will "Do Nothing" when you're connected to AC power. (YOU DID THAT.) If you're using a Dell monitor, I found that some of them have hyper- aggressive power management features. On my UP3216q, there's a setting to disable the monitor sleep feature but it doesn't work. And there is almost no delay between when the monitor loses the picture signal and it begins its sleep countdown. If I reboot my XPS 15 9550, the monitor will be asleep before the machine comes back up. I'm using Windows 10 and I also have some questions about the power management features there. In fact the whole settings/control panel dichotomy is really screwed up.
I have an additional problem with closing lid — it can cause the monitor to blink on and off. This seems to be a Dell laptop to Dell monitor problem. And it may be 4K and/or USB-C related. Here's how I solved the problem, and you're not going to like it. But I'm getting used to it: I just tuck the laptop under the monitor edge and leave it open 3 inches.
By the way, I'm not having any problems with the TB15 either. In fact I just ordered a second one. You really have to keep up to date on the drivers and firmware, though. The ones... Read more

My laptop isn't charging when I plug the adaptor in to the back of the dock.  When I'm on the dock with the adaptor plugged into the laptop, if  I hover over the green battery icon in the system tray, it tells me I should plug in the dock: "AC power is detached from your docking station.  For proper battery charging and docking station operation, connect the AC adaptor to the docking station." I'm not supposed to use two separate power adaptors, am I? (One for the dock and one for the laptop)?I think I might have a bad dock.

Answer:Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - Do I have to plug in both the dock and the laptop, or just the dock?

No, you only need to plug the dock in. When I remove the AC adaptor from my dock, the dock stops working completely -- display port shuts down and the green light next to the dock's power button turns off. Do you have a 90 watt adaptor plugged into the dock? It sounds like you have a bad dock or docking connector.

Hello everyone,

there is a problem with my XPS 15 and dockingstation WD 15 for quite some time now.
During usage, sometimes and with unregular length, the system audio stops working and I have to disable the audio device and re-enable it in the sound settings. What is really annoying.
Additionally, there are really bad lags of video, audio and inputs with the dock. Imagine the audio video and inputs stuttering for about 2 - 3 seconds. These problems are appearing unregularly and seem to not be connected to the kind of usage.
This influences heavily conferencing and gaming badly. Whenever it is important I disconnect the dock from my laptop.
Has anybody heared of this bug or problem before. After a lot of research, I still do not have any solution or workaround yet.

Best Regards

I've got a Precision 5510 Laptop with Windows 7 and a WD15 dock. The laptop BIOS, and dock firmware and drivers are up to date.
I've got 3 ASUS monitors connected as follows:

Monitor DVI to dock mini-display via adapter
Monitor VGA to dock VGA
Monitor HDMI to dock HDMI

The desktop is extended to use all 3 and not use the built in display.
The resolution on the first 2 is great, 1920x1080 @ 60p Hz. The HDMI connection only allows me 720x576 @ 50p HZ.
All the troubleshooting docs I found tell you to expect with 2 monitors and that 4 monitors are not supported.  Nothing about 3 monitors.
Is this expected behavior?

Dell S2340M - capable of 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz
Monitor 1 is the primary and the desktop is extended to use all 3 while the 5510 is closed, I cannot get the resolution on monitor 3 to go any higher than the 640 x 480. Documentation Provided by Dell-Robert p over at http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/20004811

Ever since I installed all the relevant firmware/driver updates for my TB15 and XPS-15, I have experienced random BSOD's. I finally have narrowed the cause down to the driver for the Realtek GbE Family Controller. That driver is rtux64w10.sys. I have installed the latest version (10.6.1211.2015) from the Dell Support site. I was using a previous version (10.5.1019.2015) with another USB-C Ethernet adapter and that worked fine. This is one among several problems reported here about the TB15. If this is not fixed shortly, I will be forced to return it.

OK, it's been a year and still no joy. Dell D620, XP, Vista, Unbutu, nothing will work to connect to the Dell Docks. I have two, same thing. Lights come on but nobody home.

I finally gave in, took the laptop, all drives and both power paks, both docks to see the Geek Squad at Best Buy.

The Geek tried everything than tells me since neither dock worked that the most likely problem is the connector on the bottom of the laptop MOBO. That I needed to swap with a new MOBO as the connectors cannot be repaired.

Who knows, possibly poor connections between the connector and the board?

I found new old stock MOBO's on
eBay. Never been used. However I am reluctant to buy any until I can confirm this fault.

Anyone know anything about this?

I have an old fried board from when G'son poured a soda into this unit, toasting the board and neyboard. I should look at how the connector is attached to get an idea if that can be a common failure point. The stress pushing and pulling during plugging into docks might be causing some cracking of the board and/or solder connections. Why I didn't think of that? Doesn't matter now. I just hate to have to tear this thing apart when it already runs fine, just won't dock, and I want to set up both docks in different rooms, plugged into TV's and larger drives. Thinking of installing kodl so we can watch movies', etc. using this laptop instead of buying a TV stick or other box.

Hi all,
Currently running a Latitude 5480 through a WD15 Dock. I have two monitors but can't get both to display. The dock itself has a number of connection options however it doesn't have two VGA ports. If I connect one of the monitors to the VGA port that works ok. If I use an adapter on the other VGA monitor to plug into the HDMI port on the dock it doesn't detect it on the Latitude.
Anybody successfully managed to get two VGA monitors to connect using the WD15, and if so how did you manage it?

Answer:Latitude 5480, WD15 dock, Dual monitors

Let's backup. What are the two specific monitor models? Link to the specific adapter you are using to try to connect the second monitor to the WD15. Read through the WD15 article, "How to Use and Troubleshoot the Dell Dock WD15".

Hi,
Our company purchased several XPS13 laptops last year, running Windows 7 Pro, along with the WD15 docks.
The laptops are usually connected to the company LAN network through the docks, but then are switched to a WIFI connection when taking the laptop to meetings, then re-docked afterwards.
The problem we're seeing is that, for all except one laptop, we have to use the laptop switch to disable WIFI/Bluetooth (Fn-PrtScr) for the laptops to switch from WIFI to LAN when they're re-docked. For the one laptop, it automatically switches from WIFI to LAN once it's re-docked without any issues.
The process we use for un-docking/re-docking the laptops is below:
Un-docking the laptop:

Unplug LAN cable from dock (lower-right LAN icon changes to WIFI icon) - if the laptop is removed from the dock without unplugging the LAN cable first, the wireless adapter remains disabled in Device Manager. Selecting Enable doesn't work, and sometimes, even a computer restart won't fix this.
Unplug laptop from dock.
For the one laptop, at this point, the WIFI network is detected and connects automatically with no problems.
For the other laptops, since the WIFI/Bluetooth switch is in a disabled state (reason explained below), the lower-right WIFI icon has a red cross on it. This is then enabled using the Fn-PrtScr switch and, all going well, the WIFI network is detected and connects automatically. (There have been times when the wireless adapter needs to be manually enabled i... Read more

Much like has been reported three days ago with the TB16 dock (see here), once I updated the Bios on my XPS 13 to 1.3.7, I started experiencing unexpected cutouts of USB powered devices. In this case, it was my Logitech universal receiver. This cause stuttering/dropouts of the mouse.
When I switch to the on-board USB slot on my laptop - no issue. Whether the USB 2 or USB 3 slots on the dock - the problem returns.
I have no issues with my HD monitor or with the Ethernet connection on the dock - just the USB. Every driver is up to date and, as I said, the ports in the laptop work great.

Answer:XPS 9360 BIOS 1.3.7 created USB dropout/lag in WD15 dock

I suppose the obvious question would be have you tried a wired mouse?
I remember comments about a Logitech wireless mouse causing problems for some systems after a prior Win 10 build update.
Does the WD 15 use the ASMedia USB drivers and have they been updated since the Bios update?

If you plan to use an older WD15 dock with one of the new Dell 5x80/7x80 Latitude systems, it is highly recommended that you update the dock firmware in advance.   Instructions on how to update the dock firmware are available here ->

If you are purchasing a new WD15 dock with a new system, it should ship with the updated firmware already installed.

Hi,
I've just built a near perfect  home office setup.
- XPS13 9350, 16GB RAM, 512SSD, Skylake i7
- Dell WD15 Dock (tried and failed with the delinquent TB15 variant)
- Dell UZ2315H monitor into the dock, via HDMI for graphics, and USB for the monitor's camera and audio bar.
My problem is just this:-
Through the single USB C connection to the dock, everything works perfectly except the screen's built in webcam

When I plug the screen's USB cable directly into the laptop, it works fine, and I can toggle between the laptop webcam and the screen webcam.
Any tips? I think I'm up to date with all drivers..
Thanks in advance.

Answer:...Which Is The Right Dell Dock Download?

Hello,

There appear to be two different versions, 1.0 A03 and 1.5.3 A10.

1.0 A03: http://http://support.dell.com/suppo...&fileid=265024

1.5.3 A10: http://http://support.dell.com/suppo...&fileid=295245

The Dell Dock website has the 1.5.3 version, but neither have XP down as compatible, just Vista, so if I were you, download the Dell Dock from delldock.com and see if it works, and if not try the older version, but you may not be able to get eitehr version to work.

I just did some reading at the sites and it told me the answer.

The first one says it is compatible with Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit so I guess that is not right.

The second choice says it is compatible with WinXP

Every morning, the same behavior happens.
I wake my computer from sleep. At the Window login prompt, I connect the WD15 with my laptop (Dell Latitute 5580). The connection establishes (the attached monitor turn on and works). After 5-10 seconds, the WD15 shuts down on it own. The white led on the dock (and on the cable) shuts off. I have to disconnect the power of the dock, disconnect the dock from the laptop and finally reconnect the power to turn on the dock. When the white led are back, I reconnect the WD15 to my laptop and now, the connection is stable (does not disconnect) and everything works.
Is this a known issue ? How can I fix this ?

Anyone seen the following issue w/the Latitude 7480 w/a WD15 USB-C Dell Dock)??? I've reached a brick wall on this.
Laptop = Latitute 7480.Docking Station = WD15 (USB-C Dell Dock).OS = Windows 10
Laptop powers on in a docked state. External monitors and peripherals are functional. Laptop then gets removed from dock, and USB ports on laptop become nonfunctional. The system is not providing stable power to the USB ports. If you redock, the external monitors are functional/responsive (signal being transferred via USB-C), but the regular USB ports are still nonfunctional. After undocking, I connected a USB-powered wireless headset receiver to USB port on laptop, the receiver initially gets power for a few seconds, and then power dies. Indicating the system recognizes hardware is being plugged in, but then suspends power to the ports. Also, very randomly the backlight on the laptop screen will go out. Backlight resumes functional after reboot.
Troubleshooting Steps performed:- Connected USB keyboard and wireless mouse directory to laptop usb port, and devices are nonfunctional. - Changed Power Options from Balanced mode to High Performance mode in OS, no change. - Updated Firmware for WD15 USB-C docking station, no change. - Checked all related settings in BIOS after update, no change. - Disconnected ALL peripherals from dock (monitors/mouse/keyboard/usb headset) and no change. USB ports still locked up. - On laptops with restart or shutdown functions, it takes several mi... Read more

Which dock do I pick for Latitude 5480?

Dell Universal Dock D6000
Dell WD15 (
Dell UltraHD Dock D3100

Our goal is to dock the E5480 with two monitors (Dell P2417H), have wired USB keyboard/mouse, wired ethernet with USB Printer and a USB scanner?
D6000 has 2x DP ports, so it seems to be the best fit?
WD15  has mDP and HDMI out, which means I would need either:
a) mDP to DP adapter plus DP cable for MON1+ HDMI cable for MON2  or b) mDP to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable for MON1 + HDMI cable for MON2
D3100 has 1XDP and 2xHDMI out.   Could use both HDMI out, but reading on forums HDMI is unresponsive during sleep/awake PC functions?
Which dock will gives us the least headache?

Hi,
I've been having a terrible time getting the WD15 USB-C dock to work with my XPS 15 9550.  I have two monitors plugged into the dock (one HDMI, one VGA) and I have the 9550's monitor on (total of three screens).
I'm able to use all three monitors when I'm connected to the dock, but when I disconnect the dock, the laptop screen stays black.  The computer is still running the whole time (if I have music playing, it keeps playing).  If I plug the dock back in, all 3 monitors come back.
I've tried everything I can think of from updating every driver, following the dock driver installation guide, updating BIOS, removing and reinstalling display drivers, but I don't know what's going on.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi guys,
Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere (though I haven't been able to find anything). I'm testing a TB16 dock for use with the Latitude 7480 but cannot get it to work with the monitors. it is supplying power to the laptop, but nothing else plugged into it is recognised. I have updated all the available drivers for the 7480 and the BIOS is updated to 1.2.9.  The BIOS was updated first.
When I attempt to install the  Thunderbolt 3 Firmware update, I get an error that "No Thunderbolt controller update supported for this platform ID=0x7A0".
I have installed the available thunderbolt drivers listed here in addition to the Thunderbolt Software 16.2.52.250
I'm running Windows 10 Pro version 1607 Build 14393.953
Short of uninstalling all the drivers and reinstalling in the right order (again), I'm running out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Answer:Dell 7480 and TB16 dock

I don't know about that particular machine but the TB firmware and controller are installed to the machine before you even plug in the dock.
If the Thunderbolt options in the Bios are greyed out, you do not have a Thunderbolt controller.  I will leave it to you as to whether you have a 2 or 3 lane Thunderbolt system.

Not sure if this is the correct forum. I tried searching but must not have used correct key words as nothing came up.

Dell Dock model PR01X which is as I read, a Port Replicator. Does not work on my Latitude D620 running Vista Home Premium. I've also tried XP Pro SP3 on the same machine and still, nothing on the Dock works except the power plug and one light on the top.

I searched Dell user forums. Found this problem has persisted for over 5 years yet Dell has still not addressed it. Many of those users have had some success by installing the XP copy of usb.inf. Vista would not allow that. So I loaded XP onto another drive, swapped it in. Still nothing worked other than the power plug and that one top light that comes on when the lid is lifted. The network cord would not 'pass thru'. I had to un-dock, plug the network cord in to get on-line and go to the Dell site to download and install drivers to get the wi-fi working.

A chat with Dell Tech about this Dock problem was a total waste of time. They wanted to either sell me support or sell me a different Dock. Done a lot of searches, and reading, something led me to Dell R181862 which is Dell Notebook system Software Utility. This installed Client Configuration Utility allows my to edit the system Bios. I used that to add 'Docking'. After making those changes I found during Setup there is now 'Docking' listed and made those selections. It didn't change a thing. Nothing on the dock work... Read more

Answer:Dell Dock (Port Replicator)

Have you got the power adapter for the Dock ? I read online you need that connected as well as the laptop's own power adapter for the Dock to work.

Hi,

I am trying to connect 2 Samsung VGA/HDMI monitors to a Dell docking station pro3x. The docking station has 1 VGA port and 2 DVI ports.

So far, I have one monitor that will work with my laptop that is plugged into the VGA port. I purchased a VGA to DVI connector for the second monitor, but it is not working.

Any advice on how to make this work? In the simplest terms possible

Answer:2 Monitors & Dell Dock PRO3x

Is the laptop open or closed? It will very likely need to be closed.

I have a Dell 7370 laptop and a WD-15 Dell Dock. I use the dock for docking the laptop, but also often just to charge it without wanting to work on it. However, every time I plug in the dock to the laptop's USB-C port, the laptop automatically turns itself on. This is very annoying when I just want to charge the laptop for the night at home. The laptop is warm in the morning and if I just grab it and take it with me, it *** battery power in my backpack.
Is there a way to set the system such that plugging in the dock's USB cable to the laptop does not turn on the computer and maybe setting the dock's power button to turn on the computer, if I want?
Thanks a lot,
Attila

When I drag a desktop shortcut to my DellDock, sometimes it asks me if I want to delete the desktop shortcut after adding it to the dock. But sometimes it doesn't ask. Is there a reason for not asking sometimes?

Answer:Desktop Shortcut to Dell Dock

I'd chock it up to Dell.

Itunes used to do the same kind of thing, Ask you sometimes if you want to delete the file when you remove a song from your library, but sometimes it would not. I just wrote it off as lazy apple programmers only writing the delete code for certain filetypes.

HP ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt 3 usb device issues. USB Keyboard randomly sends a stream of a repeated character.  I will be typing and mid worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr d will get results like in the word above.  The inverse happens alot too, were it just drops a few characters i have typed. USB Mouse lag is horrible. Both devices will stop functioning, need to reboot the dock to recover them. Any one have any suggestions or which drivers are the most stable?

Answer:thunderbolt dock

#HPExpertDayYou will have to update BIOS/Firmware if any. Install the docking station drivers. Try using a different keyboard, if the issue stops then issue was with keyboard.http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07165

I have a WD15 dock and a Latitude 7280. When I lock my computer and come back to resume work I am met with a black screen and a flickering mouse pointer.
Here is my setup:
WD15 - all firmware updated and applied
Latitude 7280 - all firmware updated and applied
Dell E2214H x2 monitors
DVI to HDMI cable
DVI to Mini Display port cable.
Power settings - No hard drive sleep when plugged in. Monitor to sleep after 5 minutes.
I am fairly certain this is a result of a firmware issue. I am just posting here so that maybe someone at Dell makes a note of this. If someone by chance has a fix for this let me hear it!

Answer:WD15 dock, Latitude 7280 waking from sleep monitor issues

Can I also add that this dock is poorly designed. The HDMI port and Mini Display port are way too close together. They need a bit more room to account for different cable widths.

I have a Dell Latitude 800 laptop. I need to dock it (because of a broken power adapter connector) but when I boot up I just get the message "your computer is docked but power adapter type not recognized. Press F1 to shut down" There is no other option but to shut down.

I am using a genuine Dell power adapter (PA-10) will full wattage (90W). I also just purchased a new adapter because the old one might have been damaged. There is no change in the message and I cannot boot the computer or charge the battery. Any way to get around this message--again I am using all genuine Dell equipment but the computer is not recognizing this.

Thanks!

Been getting random & frequent BSOD (Critical Process Died). Called tech support, they uninstalled & reinstalled several drivers including the dock driver. They also installed this click 2 fix app. The problem remains. I've already notified them about it. Hope to hear back from them tomorrow.
One thing I noticed: I don't get any BSOD when not plugged into the dock. I've already ordered a replacement in case this one is defective. Is there anything I should be looking for?? Would have I been better off choosing the thunderbolt dock instead??
Any advice is certainly appreciated.

I keep getting an error message that says the dell dock was unable to load and I need to reinstall it.

Answer:Remove & reinstall the Dell Dock application

This is a Dell feature - most likely pre-installed. If you really want it maybe there is a download on the Dell website if you quote your computer make and model number. In which case Uninstall/Reinstall will probably fix it.Seems it does little more than can be done by simple shortcuts in folders on the desktop - it also uses resources. Maybe you should try to uninstall it or disable it. Look in "Control Panel > Programs and features", or maybe in services (type services in Search) or in msconfig startup.EDIT:See this:http://www.ehow.com/how_4773983_rem...Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

My old laptop with Windows Vista is still plodding along but has started showing windows that read 1) Dell dock has stopped working and then more recently 2) DellDock.exe - Application Error: Application has generated an exception that could not be handled; Process ID = 0xb0c (2828); Thriead ID = 0xf3c (3900); Click ok to cancel the application; click cancel to debug the application. With problem no.1 I can simply close the windows and they go away but with no.2 the window won't respond to anything and although I can still carry on with stuff on the laptop, the error notification is always there. It won't always reappear when I restart the laptop but it happens regularly. Any ideas out there?

Answer:Dell Dock errors that keep appearing on laptop

First, run MSCONFIG.exe and under the 'startup' tab you should find Delldock.exe is listed - simply untick it and then restart - the error message will have gone (though you will initially get a message about disabled startup items). If you want a more permanent, & tidier, solution then download & install CCleaner - under the 'tools' option there's a 'startup' tab where you can disable it."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Hi, so my dock DA200 is acting in really strange way. All functionalities like Ethernet, USB and HDMI are working correctly accept VGA connection. When I connect external monitor, I can see that system detects it, but nothing happens. So I have tried to use Drivers and Printers functionality to detect the screen, but nothing. After some time, I just unplugged power cable from my external monitor, but left it connected to the dock and surprising I noticed that system detected external monitor and it appeared in connected devices. After plugging monitor again, the device disappeared from the list again. My laptop detects the screen when it is off, but disconnects it when I turn it on or it is on idle. Any thoughts on this?Edit: My Laptop has all newest drivers and newest BIOS version installed, for this particular reason I have also reinstalled windows, but no change.

Hi,
I bought a new D6000 Universal Dock to use on my XPS2720 AIO desktop to extend to a pair of DelU2711 displays, replacing a Toshiba U3 Dynadock (it couldn't do both display on 4K). Both screens are running on 2560x1440 resolution, connected by DisplayPort cables. Resolutions & colours are fine, but one screen is constantly flickering & the other 'blinks' about every 30 seconds or so, almost unusable. I have just done a clean Factory Install of the XPS 2720 (updated the 8.1 to 10 Pro again) & updated all drivers, but problem persists.

We recently procured a Dell Latitude 3480 Laptop and we were recommended to procure a D6000 Dell dock along with it. The only issue we have currently is the laptop doses not charge when it is connected through the dock where as on the web-site it states it is compatible with this laptop. Support was unable to help us either stating it need a USB C port. Any insight into this issue would  be helpful.

Hello everyone. I have a Dell E7450 with a faulty charging circuit. An IC (PD5) close to the DC jack burnt due over voltage therefore the computer is showing `plug in not charging`. My question here is, are there any chances that the computer will charge through dock station? Thanks.

Answer:Charging DELL E7450 through dock station

If the damage is only associated with something only used for the DC jack on the laptop then yes, but if there's damage to any shared or more important circuits then it may not work either. Normally you would absolutely be able to charge it through the docking station. If I personally had to guess I'd say there's a pretty good change it may work with a dock.
