drivers for opencl developemnt

Question: drivers for opencl developemnt

I want to do some opencl development on my Alienware 15 r2 nvidia gtx956m gpu). Nvidia provides developer drivers sdk's (3.6.4.72-notebook ) but provides a warning that not all OEMs support these. Does Alienware support the nvidia drivers? If not, what is the recommended way to install cuda/opencl + developer drivers so I can do opencl development in visual studio?

Preferred Solution: drivers for opencl developemnt

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: OpenCL

I have both an Intel HD 4600 GPU (Core i7 4790k CPU), and Radeon R9 285 card in my desktop. Anyways, since the HD is pretty much unused I decided to enable it in UEFI settings for the purpose of running OpenCL stuff on it.

Anyways I'm looking for software that can take advantage of OpenCL.

Answer:OpenCL

It hasn't really taken off kind of like WiDi. Good luck finding anything worthwhile that uses it.

Just bought this new i7 z510. Downloaded and tried to run this program called resolve lite for video. Install the program and open it, it says NO Open CL acceleration hardware found.  What the hell does one need to buy a new dam laptop if it doesn't even have up to date things like open cl in it.   If someone knows how to instal a program that fakes open cl or something so I can run resolve please tell me. Thanks.

hey guys long time lurker here, usually i find solutions on my problem but this time around, i have no idea what to do!

Short story: ran sfc /scannow and got the message "found corrupt files but cannot repair," specifically regarding Opencl.dll. Can i fix this w/o doing a reset?

Long Story (in outline form):
- got a new SSD
-with my old HDD still in place(with w7) installed w10 thru usb in the SSD
-It worked, and thru the desktop i transferred files from my old HDD to the SSD
-tried to format the HDD thru my computer, did not work, got some error
-proceeded to format the hdd through w10 installation usb - worked
-changed the boot order so SSD load first
-got an error saying no OS is found
-plugged in w10 usb and did "repair my computer" - worked
-able to access desktop, play games, etc.
-decided to run sfc /scannow to be sure, and got that error
-did a disk cleanup and then ran sfc again, still the same

also i have attached the log that i got from the sfc

Answer:Opencl.dll on sfc /scannow

Perhaps not, even if you were to do a clean install at this point - see here: SFC some corrupt files can not be fixed

Normally, folks would advise that the next step is using DISM to repair this problem but, if you check the thread I linked above, you may decide you don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Question: Missing OpenCL.dll

Hi All,
So, I upgraded to Windows 10 a day back using the media creation tool, and the install went fine. After I restarted the PC for the first time, I got an error saying that OpenCL.dll is missing. I searched online forums and it said that it might be due a problem with your graphic drivers. So, I updated the driver with Device Manager, but it said that the driver is upto date. I still get the problem after every restart.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Answer:Missing OpenCL.dll

Could you look and let us know what driver version you are using please? (quick way to look- right click on your desktop, click nvidia control panel, then in the bottom left corner of the dialogue box that opens hit system properties)

Hi guys.

I am hoping you can help me as i don't wish to do a full reinstall. Spoke to Microsoft who couldn't help. I have looked through the excellent tutorial posted on here with regards to SFC issues but i'm unsure if i am doing something incorrect as, the ISO i got from Microsoft website, has an install file with a .wmd extension.

I am on the following build:

When i run SFC i get corrupted files could not be repaired message:

I have saved the log of the above scan which i have attached. Please forgive me for the possibly dumb question but do i know download the 1511 iso? DISM is saying source files not found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the Tutorial steps don't seem to fix the problem unless its me which most likely is!

After past days, this week i've discovered another problem with windows...

Everyoen know that Windows 10 x64 and latest geforce forceware drivers are giving problems... in fact 355.60 WHQL release was bugged as hell and give a lot of problems, like VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL BSOD.

Today nvidia realeased a beta drivers to fix that issue...

355.78 (It provides a bug fix for an intermittent issue found in the publicly released 355.60 Game Ready driver as well as solving an issue with incorrect display timings. )

but seems problems are related to

Hello! I work and study in CAE/mathematical modeling field. Now I'm trying to use OpenCL on my laptop. According to all the utilities I've tried I have no OpenCL support, although I know that it should have, at least early versions. E.g. FurMark didn't even recognize my dicrete card. It simply stated that I only have the Intel HD Graphics.GPU Shark says the same.GPU-Z tells me that I have both, but no OpenCL support on either of the devices. At first I could't even start a simple example in OpenCL, because the "Getting started guides usually suggest to look for a cl.h header in your $(AMDAPPSDKROOT) folder". I have that environment variable set to an existing folder, but it contains no libs, headers or anything close to it.I've installed Intel SDK for OpenCL to check the available devices through OpenCL API. It says I can use only CPU. Hardware: AMD Ati Radeon HD 7670m; Intel HD Graphics 4000; Intel Core i5 CPU;BIOS info: InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.7; f.12;The device manager recognizes both devices correctly (from the first glance). According to it both devices' drivers are 8.982.10.6000 from AMD.I have been studying this problem for a couple of days already and found only two direct statements that it IS possible to use OpenCL on my Radeon card:https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html (Call me Mr. BrightSide, but I assume they should have tested it)andhttps://community.amd.com/thread/162244The reasons ... OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend.

If you are interested at all in multi-core programming, this tool (Open Computing Language) could become the standard for years to come in "what may be the best solution so far to the general problem of parallel programming." It does both task-level and data-level parallelism (aka SIMD) and some parallel-programming languages can't do the latter.

Answer:OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend

Some of the parallel processing examples are best described as *way cool* (I don't drag out such language for the average stuff ).

Don't know what Nvidea's plan is with both CUDA and OpenCL support. As both do broadly the same thing why are they pushing their solution so hard? Anyone know any good tutorials for OpenCL (or CUDA for that matter, but there's more out there).

It'd be a shame to write two programs for two different machines.

A programming language: https://www.khronos.org/opencl/

OpenCL defines an application programming interface (API) that allows programs running on the host to launch kernels on the compute devices and manage device memory, which is (at least conceptually) separate from host memory. Programs in the OpenCL language are intended to be compiled at run-time, so that OpenCL-using applications are portable between implementations for various host devices.[12

Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL - X-bit labs

"Nvidia May Allow GPU PhysX to Work on ATI Hardware

Nvidia Corp. said that it could eventually port computing of physics effects created using PhysX middleware to OpenCL application programming interface (API) and capable hardware. This may actually enable acceleration of physics effects processing on graphics chips to work on ATI Radeon hardware.

At present PhysX middle-ware is used to make physics effects on various platforms, including video game consoles and personal computers. In virtually all the cases processing of physics effects is performed on the central processing units ? x86 chips in case of PC, Cell in case of PlayStation 3 or PowerPC in case of Xbox 360 ? however, there are handful of games that can take advantage of physics computing on Nvidia GeForce graphics processing units (GPUs) that support CUDA technology. The latter is virtually Nvidia?s proprietary API and is naturally not supported by chips developed by ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. Due to such limitations not a lot of game developers are implementing GPU PhysX and enabling acceleration using DirectCompute or OpenCL is one of the best ways to popularize processing of physics effects on graphics processors.

?In the future it is a possibility that we could use OpenCL, but at the moment CUDA works great. [Our GPU] architecture allows for acceleration by other things like OpenCL. Nvidia works very closely wit... Read more

I made inf file for g210m on toshiba u500 for 195.81 beta driver.
Just download driver and add it to unpacked directory where are other infs and install.

Answer:Satellite U500 - INF file with OpenCL, CUDA for Nvidia driver

Thanks for that but usually it?s advisable to use the Toshiba graphic card driver due to the GPU overheating protection.
Other drivers don?t support such protection and the usage of such drivers can cause an higher temperature which could affect the GPU chip?.

I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Vostro 3460 with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and Crucial 1TB SSD. All Dell diagnostics pass, Windows fully updated.
About 2 weeks ago (April 2016), the Windows Update for Version 1511 finally arrived and it is now at Build 10586.218
A few days (2 or 3) before that, IE 11 and Edge started to misbehave. It's possible that some final pre-upgrade-to-1511 upgrade did this - it is equally possible just a co-incidence.
The symptoms are that IE11 will open up but the address bar does not get populated and after a few seconds, it just disappears again. Edge does similar. When this happens, I sometimes try Firefox but that takes a long time to start - at least it starts. Chrome usually starts within a short time. There is no sure way to get IE and Edge back again. Rebooting sometimes does it. Usuallly, I have to use Turn Windows Features on and off to turn IE 11 off then on again (which given a restart is needed both times is timeconsuming).
I have tried clearing caches, Inetcpl.cpl, in place repair of Windows 10 and sfc /scannow. scannow blames a corrupt opencl.dll according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/sfc-scannow-report-opencldll-bad/4209b042-1b7b-4fa2-a720-2c0e489d137b?page=5 which - if that thread is to be believed is something to do with Windows not treating the NVidia driver correctly or vice versa.

This is a long standing question. Which drivers should I use? I have graphical issues with the current Drivers from Dell.
Any ideas what are the advantages of Dell's drivers over the ones from Intel/NVIDIA web site and do the even work? What will I lose if I use the latter?

Answer:Inspiron 7567 which drivers? Dell drivers or Intel/NVIDIA graphics drivers?

Dell drivers are Intel/Nvidia drivers that are customized for your exact model and should be used. They are available at Dell Support if you have to reinstall.

I had to reinstall windows Vista Business on an Acer Aspire AX1200-U1640A 2GB install went well but when I tried to set up my internet, wireless did not show, I called my internet provider we tried to set it up as broadband but that didn't work either. It seems I do not have the drivers for the Ethernet Controller and other things listed under other devices see pictures in attached document. Since I do not have the internet on that computer, I downloaded the Ethernet driver from Acer to a jump drive but I cannot get it to work. Please advise for all "other devices" with the same problem. Oh, yes the Ethernet cord is plugged in and my laptop has wifi. Thanks

My laptop is an ASUS U50F and has been getting worse and worse as I have tried to stay current. My latest status was Windows 10 which was totally up to date except for some drivers that I had to force because those pushed by Microsoft plain did
not work with my hardware. BTW: Microsoft compatibility check for Win 10 said totally compatible . . . Absolutely wrong. Many things did not work properly.

Even then things finally got to the point that the Laptop was SO slow under Win 10 that it was completely unusable. So I finally bit the bullet and decided to restore the laptop to it's original
2009 Win 7 OS & drivers using the restore DVD I created when the laptop was new. That seemed to work great. Hooray, like a new computer.

But not so fast . . .

When I tried to install my Kaspersky AV it said that t needed at least Win 7 SP1. So I started trying to update Win 7. The only "important" updates were Windows Live essentials 2011 and Office
Live add-ins neither of which looked that important, but I installed them anyway. When I run Windows Update "search for updates" now it just spins its wheels . . . forever, and does not find anything to update (i.e. no SP1). But when
I look at Update History it shows "Windows 7 SP1 for x64 based systems" as successfully installed even though SP1 is not shown when I look at Computer Properties under Windows Edition (it should say SP1 if that i... Read more

Hi,I have tried to update the drives from the intel site as well as from the lenovo system update + direct update drivers fro lenovo. But still the version does not change from 13.4.0.139 and i have installed these drivers from lenovo site. 8aw215ww. Can  please explain why theseare not update to the latest version 14.2.xx.xx. I have tried to delete the drivers, uninstall and then point it to the wlan folder created by lenovo drivers, still the version does not get updated to the 14.xx.xx.xx along with the date, the date still shows 7/10/10.   I can send u the link from the lenovo site, where I have installed. Or you can find the drivers page where the latest version 14.xx is displayed. Please send me the link to update my drivers to 14.xx.xx.xx. Let me knw if you need any other update from me. Thanks,

Answer:intel wireless 4965 AGN drivers + windows 7 ultimate sp1 + 6465cto, drivers link.

Hi, I'm currently using version 12.4.1.4 on this card and it works perfectly. Is there a reason you want to change to a different version then you have installed?   I (personally) think it's wise to not fix what isn't broken, so if a driver does it's job, I won't update it. Installing the latest drivers released by intel is asking for touble, you'll be little more then a beta tester, and although I can't speak for lenovo, my guess is if they haven't put the latest drivers up, it's because they haven't deemed them stable yet, or may even know of problems with them. On the otherhand, if you know of some improvement in this driver that will make a real difference for users, then please enlighten us, and perhaps one of our members can figure out how to find the driver and get it installed. It would also be nice to do some before and after testing to see if there really is any significant advantage.

so i did a fresh instal of windows xp pro sp3. device manager shows yellow question mark and ! for Network Controller and BCM2046 Bluetooth Device. i have tried using lan to windows update, update drivers, but device manager cannot find anything.  i have installed the 2 broadcom drivers for windows xp listed on lenovos website. i made sure that wireless switch is on, and fn+f5 wireless option is set to on as well.  LAN shows up. and so does the 1394 on the network connections, but no wireless. (note: on my server 2008 os, the new windows troubleshooting instructed me to turn on a specific service, which then enabled my wireless to work.) however i cant seem to find a way to get the wireless to work. Could someone tell me all services exactly need to be enabled for the wireless to work? and why does the network controller still show up on device manager even after i have installed the drivers? please help, totally lost.

Answer:u330 wireless and bluetooth drivers for windows xp. devices not working. drivers already installed

Your "yellow" device is Bluetooth, not WiFi.Fn+F5 utility work depends on both of them, so you need all drivers to be installed before it will work.Install bluetooth drivers for your model. Also, your WiFI also may be Broadcom (Gemtek) and you may be trying to install Intel WiFi.

Hi,
I came across an issue that I find confusing. Whilst trying to install a software to run a mobile USB flash modem, the software pops this message:

*************************************************************
your current device installation settings is configured to prefer drivers from Windows Update over locally installed
drivers. This can cause Unlimited data Manager not to work correctly.

do you want to change the settings to prefer locally installed drivers over Windows Update?
**********************************************************

What does it imply if I change my settings to prefer locally installed drivers over windows update drivers?
And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

Thank you for reading

I gave another shot at installing the latest drivers for my Nvidia FX 570M, but it seems that CUDA does work well when there are other applications running in the background. When I play 1080p (or 720p)mkv files, there is a jerkyness, audio and video halts for a few seconds and then it resumes. With the old drivers from Lenovo, everything seemed fine, but the drivers did seem to have a few bugs in the interface, or retaining the settings for increased refresh rate.   Does anyone else have these issues? Thanks,   NVIDIA System Information report created on: 05/29/2011 12:04:56[Display]Operating System:    Windows 7, 64-bit (Service Pack 1)DirectX version:    11.0GPU processor:        Quadro FX 570MDriver version:        270.61DirectX support:    10CUDA Cores:        32Core clock:        475 MHzShader clock:        950 MHzMemory clock:        702 MHz (1404 MHz data rate)Memory interface:    128-bitTotal available graphics memory:    2015 MBDedicated video memory:    256 MB GDDR3System video memory:    0 MBShared system memory:    1759 MBVideo BIOS version:    60.84.51.00.00IRQ:          &nb... Answer:T61p Nvidia drivers - new drivers give jerky DXVA playback

It seems like the problem is a conflict with other applications that use hardware acceleration. I disabled it in Firefox, and now video playback is fine.  I wonder if I should alert Nvidia or Mozilla about the problem. Given the problem has consistently been with newer drivers, it seems like it is Nvidia's responsibility.

Can someone please explain where i have to save driver downloads that tempro keeps telling me are needed for my notebook?

When i click save it always comes up with documents but surely this cannot be right.

Please please help me?
My system is windows home premium and Satellite L350 notebook

Answer:Re: Satellite L350: Where to store the drivers mentioned by Tempro down loading drivers

I?m not using the Tempro software but is there no option for patch changing?

However, if the Tempro saves the files to a definite folder then you could check this folder and could move the drivers to the other area? this should not be a big problem?

PS: To be honest I don?t use this tool because it?s not necessary for me? I mean I don?t change any drivers if the notebook is running trouble free? I read here many threads and met guys who updated the drivers for non apparent reason and then the problems begun?.

I follow this advice; never change a running system ;)

After much turmoil, I was finally able to replace a failed hard drive on my Lenovo z585 and get a fresh copy of windows 7 back on it. Which is what it came with originally. The install had many drivers missing. I was able to get some some from the Lenovo support page, for the z585, but there a some that won't update on their own when I prompt them to...and those also don't have a Windows 7 driver on the support page...only windows 8. Why doesn't Lenovo have all the Win 7 drivers available ? Some drivers are available for both win 7 & 8 but others are windows 8 only ? ....and I need them. The chipset is also only available for win 8. also USB 2.0 etc.... Can someone please help me? I've only run into problem after problem, endlessly...Thanks here's an image of what my computer is asking for:

Hello!

I need to download and install drivers to a Latitude E6430 Windows 7 64-bit laptop without anykind of network/modem/wireless drivers. To be clear, I actually don't want wireless/network/modem drivers on the machine, but I'd like to update the video drivers, bios drivers, etc etc (everything but internet drivers basically). (I want this to be my offline laptop to avoid internet distractions)

However, when I go to download drivers from the website, it basically says the drivers will (A) automatically install and (B) when I tried to download anyway hoping I could just move them with my external hard drive it basically downloaded a Dell System Detect Launcher. How do I get the drivers piecemeal, put them on my external hard drive, and then install them on my offline Dell Laptop?

Hi there,

I have an HP Pavilion DV7 2185dx laptop running a freshly installed windows 7 upgrade from windows Vista. Ever since the upgrade my CPU is constantly running at 98-100% all the time meaning I cannot do anything on my PC. After researching a bit online it could possibly be the driver errors I see in device manager?

In device manager I see that I have some drivers missing and all attempts to update these have failed and i've seen other users here post the missing drivers and be directed to the fixes.

so i got a new video card, a 6850. i tried installing the drivers, and when i did, i got an error that a packet couldnt be installed or something. i looked up an answer online and i found that i should uninstall the drivers and change the install path. so i uninstalled the drivers, restarted my computer, and now whenever i click, the screen goes black for a couple seconds, the screen then comes back it and it gives me an error saying the drivers have stopped responding.

how can i fix this?

Answer:uninstalled amd drivers, screen is now going black after i click and drivers are not responding

Use this: DriverSweeper Tutorial

Do it in safe mode, while the Windows default drivers are being used, not your actual video drivers. Delete off the drivers using Driversweeper. And install your new drivers.

To my knowledge, when an OS such as Windows 8.1 is booted, all firmware/bios drivers are replaced by more appropriate OS drivers in the boot drive during start up. I learnt this happens for the latest versions of Windows. Am I right? Do all bios drivers get replaced? Does this happen with the latest versions of OS X as well?

If this is so, then you can discard firmware as suspected of causing problems on a computer that's already booted up. Unless there's a problem that's causing a driver to remain in RAM after boot.

Answer:Does firmware drivers get completely replaced by OS drivers after boot in OS X and Windows?

Hi everyone, I really have a big complain about Windows 10 and that is the video playback buffer. Back at Windows 8.1 i had no issues at all. I regret getting this upgrade. So I've been searching for my drivers which is an Intel(R) HD Graphics (I know, the worst for gaming and such.) but Intel didn't even find this driver when I installed the auto find install which they have. Also when I play games such as Critical Strike, I get around 2 fps at windows 10. WTF! Art Windows 8.1 i get around 150-200 fps. I don't get it, are they trying to cause lag for most midrange computers? I'm fine for the gaming since i dont do much gaming again on my laptop. But what I really need now is the fix for a video buffer playback. I'm a YouTuber that uploads weekly, and just when I wanted to edit a video today, all of it has issues, even music has issues. wtf microsoft...
Can anyone please explain me on how to fix this problem? Because I've had enough issues with windows laptops/computers/tablets/phones. My first windows laptop running xp back years ago had a virus issue. Then another laptop which has an i7 for gaming died when installed windows 8 back in 2012. AND NOW THIS? 2015. PLAYBACK ISSUES? THIS IS THE WORST STEP EVER,,, THIS IS SLOWER THAN WINDOWS 8.1 AND 7. Please someone explain to me!
Thank you!, and I am really sorry if i sounded ragingly because I really need to edit my 30 minute videos of gameplay of a collaboration with a friend of mine. Thank u guys !

I have been having this issue since getting windows 10 whereby the screen will go black for a few seconds and then a message come up saying 'display drivers have failed to start, using MS basic drivers'....This has happened multiple times, even after a few days ago where my pc 'found new drivers' and installed them. The worst part is, after a few hours , sometimes everything slows to a crawl, the mouse eventually freezes and the only way out is the reset button. This is even after I thought it may have been due to not enough memory (I just upgraded from 4 to 16 gigs) and also got an SSD 250g drive. Same exact results, so I'm thinking it's related to this near constant problem with the video card drivers where they will reset to MS drivers ...this happens about daily. Very frustrating. What's going on?

Answer:What's the BEST way to install video drivers , new Direct X,and remove older drivers?

This method works best for me. First off, I use Norton Ghost 2003 to make an image of my Windows drive. When I make this image, I have already installed WinXP SP1 plus all the latest Windows updates I can get. Also, I have already installed useful and necessary programs like Norton Antivirus 2002, ZoneAlarm Firewall, NoAds, Analog X Cookiewall. I make sure that I don't have any videocard drivers installed. As for Direct X, it's the default one installed when you first install WinXP.

Now that I have the image, I go on and try installing new Direct X versions or new videocard drivers. If something goes wrong and messes up my system or I'm not happy with the performance of the new drivers or Direct X, I use Norton Ghost 2003 to restore my image. By restoring the image, I have everything back--WinXP SP1 + all updates, programs I've installed, etc. The process only takes about 4 minutes compared to reinstalling Windows + all the programs manually (3-5 hours).

With the image backed up to that original point, I try alternative drivers or Direct X files until I find a setting I like.

This is the way I test new Detonator drivers and Direct X files. It's fool-proof and makes me more bold in trying out new stuff.

If you need more background on the benefits of Ghost 2003 and its usage, check out this guide at Radified.com:

Hope that helped.

Yesterday I had the Windows defender virus on my Desktop computer. I read things online and most places were saying to use rKill, ComboFix, and Malwarebytes. So I followed everything and then the virus was removed (I believe). Less than an hour later a friend of mine went to a website (which I believe got me a virus).

Ever since then when my computer boots up the task bar at the bottom of the screen is grey and plain (looks like a task bar from Windows XP maybe), it says that my "Audio service is not running", and I do not even have the bars that show my Wifi signal (I'm assuming that I am missing the driver now?).

I do not know if ComboFix is what did this or if I have another virus but I have become so frustrated with this that I figured I would ask for help.

I'm running a Gateway DX4860, Windows 7, and a wireless internet card.
If ANY other information is needed then I will be more than happy to give it.

I just installed the office AMD VGA Driver jan 17 2017 16.40.2701.1. once through amds regular install and then a second time after using DDU in safe mode.  I can now access radeon addition settings display color setting all drivers since 16.9 drivers.  I use a tv as a display and need that function greatly.  I havent been able to get it to show that tab with AMDs newest drivers at all.  My new problem is with Lenovos drivers my apu is max 800mghz constantly when plugged in. I attached a pic so you can see.  The APU going from 800 to 300 was me plugging and unplugging it.  This is an issue for me now because I down clocked my CPU to play some games and now im crashing constantly from what my guess is the APU at 800 mghz constant even with little no no load.  THis is so frustrating Lenovo and AMD.  THis is the flagship laptop for AMD right now and Its terrible with drivers.  So any help or explanation would be greatly appreciated. I just want to use the newest drivers with display color settings.  Its not that hard to ask. EDIT in radeon additional settings I always have used maximum performance when plugged in and now when I switch it to optimize battery my APU for down to 300 when in idle or light load like it should and used to with all the other drivers ive used and left it on Maximum Performance.  This sucks if that settings on optimize battery the cpu runs at 2.5ghz on high performace. &... Greetings,

This is a general question for a fresh install of Windows on a computer. Let's say we just completed the installation and we open up Device Manager (we haven't used Windows Update yet). Device Manager shows us that there are - let's say "3" - devices that do not have drivers installed for them. If we visit the computer manufacturers website though, they'll have - let's say "8" - different drivers to download.

If we only install the "3" drivers for the devices that Windows couldn't find drivers for, are we hurting our computing performance by not installing the other "5" drivers that were available on the manufacturers website?

This is just good to know in general, because I've faced this situation with every install of Windows since I began computing with Windows 98. But the reason I'm asking now is because the nincompoops at Acer - despite me entering my serial number - still offer me every possible driver for my model, including drivers for hardware that's not in my computer! Windows - of course - can't identify the hardware, so I'm ready to rip out the last little bit of hair on my head.

Thanks!

Answer:General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers

Some manufacturers offer an utility that helps you identify what stuff you have in the laptop, I think Acer did.
You can also try the hardware-detection program this forum has, this tutorial

Also check the driver version, as some manufacturer list multiple driver versions and you only need the latest (usually, otherwise take the last version that works).

Also, installers of these drivers usually look up the hardware IDs of the hardware and if they don't detect anything that could benefit from them will abort installation. Some instead install anyway and you will have some drivers you won't need, but won't cause any issue as again Win7 knows that they don't match any hardware ID, and will leave them alone.

So, you may have noticed that I am talking of Hardware IDs, that are basically each device's own "calling card" integrated in each device, you can identify the hardware by looking up its hardware ID and then searching it on Google to convert that code into a human-readable device model and brand.

Open device manager, right-click on an unknown device, click on "properties", then go in the "details" tab of its properties panel from Device Manager, click on the drop-down menu and select "Hardware IDs". right-click on the codes you get on the text panel below it and select copy, then search the code on Google to identify the device.

So, I am using a Yoga 2 Pro. I absolutely love this laptop/tablet whatever you want to call it, but the biggest issue I seem to be still having is relating to video games. I realize this is not a gaming system, but it would be nice to play some. The game I am most interested in playing is civilaztion 5. Civ 5 has great touch controls built into the game and works great as a tablet game. However, due to the Yoga 2 Pro's super high res screen, I am unable to run the game at full resolution. The best compromise is 1600x900. The issue is that running the game with touch controls enabled forces the game into direct x 11 mode. In Direct X 11 mode, running at a non standard resolution messes with display scaling. So I end up with a small box centered in the middle of the screen surrounded by black bars, instead of the lower resolution scaling to the display. There is a work around, that involves putting the resolution to 1920x1080 through the intel control panel first before launching the game, but this is a pain. This seems to be a driver issue, but lenovo does not seem to care about ever updating drivers as the most recent drivers all seem to be from October or November. I tried to install the intel drivers direct from Intel (which should work fine) but lenovo clearly has some block in place to prevent non authorized drivers from installing. So if anyone knows a fix to my issue or a way to install those drivers, that would be great, thanks!

Answer:Re: Portege Z830-11J: Intel AMT Drivers and ME Interface Drivers for Win 8

Hi

Did you found an Intel AMT driver for Win 7?
Its available on the Toshiba EU driver page (Active Management Technology )
As far as I know most Intel Win 7 drivers are compatible with Win 8.

I tried to install [email protected] on a few Toshiba laptops, but it needs a newer Catalyst driver than the latest available on Toshiba's website (their drivers not being updated since March). This page said that "Some OEM and some laptop vendors modify the Catalyst drivers that ship with their cards" and recommends just downloading from ATI's site. Is there any technical disadvantage or pitfall in doing that if the driver's custom? I'm guessing it would be unsupported by Toshiba, at least.

Answer:OEM-provided drivers versus vanilla graphics drivers?

Be sure to read the release notes for the driver and make certain that it supports your model. If not, look in the archives and find an older one.

Usually, the standard ATI driver will work on an OEM machine. It's not unusual for the manufacturer's site to post only the driver they shipped with the machine. But you can always roll back if it does not work as desired (an option in Device Manager).

Hello

Following
my previous tread, and in my never ending search for Toshiba drivers I've
discovered that Toshiba US support site posted divers for Qosmio X870.

Also rejoice
there are drivers (in beta version) for Windows 8 in 32 and 64 bit flavors. And
not just for X870 and some Toshiba applications, so just check it out.

Having issues with RAID0 array being detected by Windows7 Ultimate x64 as SCSI. Apparently these drivers are the 'default' drivers that install when the RAID array is initialized. There is no option at this point to install other drivers instead.

Using DeviceManager, there is an option to 'update drivers', and regardless of the method chosen, even selecting the file for a previously-downloaded set of drivers, Windows7 always comes back with a message of "Windows has determined that the best drivers for your system are already installed". Considering that SCSI drivers are the OLDEST ones out there, and actual SCSI devices are becoming rarer and rarer, how is it that these drivers cannot be replaced with more current and more applicable drivers?

Does anyone know of a usable workaround to install non-SCSI drivers to replace the default ones?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Replacing SCSI storage drivers with IDE or SATA drivers

If this is for the motherboard listed in your specs, you need to install the AMD RAID driver,

AMD Chipset Drivers

May also want to install the chipset driver while you're at it if you haven't.

I have just upgraded with the following spec.

Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
Athlon XP2800+ Barton
Asus GeForce FX5200
Aero 7+
512 mhz DDR DIMM Dual Channel

The problem – I have a PCI ADSL Interface Device which runs my internet. If I install the drivers for my mobo then I can’t fully set up my internet connection hence at the moment I have no mobo drivers installed. Conversely I can have the mobo drivers but no internet. The system is running OK but obviously I have no on-board sound, multimedia, Qfan etc, etc.

In Device Manager I have ? against the following –

PCI Ethernet Controller
PCI Ethernet Controller
PCI Multimedia Audio Device
PCI Multimedia Audio Device
PCI RAID Controller
PCI System Management BUS
PCI Universal Serial BUS

The above are all sharing IRQ00

I can offer the following info if it is any use – Conexant Access Runner (ADSL drivers & Software) is sharing with ASUS V9520 Magic (Video adaptor) on IRQ0B. It would seem to me there is a conflict between Conexant and A7N8X drivers but my knowledge stops here.

I would appreciate any help at all.

Is it better to use the drivers provided by toshiba (nvidia, synaptics,...) or should i install it from the official hardware manufacterer as they have more recent drivers than the one on toshiba site.

Answer:Question about drivers (hardware manufacterer vs toshiba drivers)

Generally speaking the drivers from Toshiba page should be used since such drivers are tested by Toshiba.
For example the display driver from Toshiba supports some kind of overheating protection and clock down the GPU if the temperature would be too high? in such case the performance would be decreased for a short time but this would lower the temperature? as far as I know the drivers from chip manufacturers don?t support such feature?
So the usage of such drivers is your own risk?

At the other hand you can install Synaptics drivers from manufacturer page. There is no risk.

I recently tried to install a wireless network at work due to tech guys playing games after being hired. SO i install on PC, it locks up and crashes, causing me 2 days of headaches tracking down and installing/repairing windows. I get it going and the tech guys come and install the wireless cards around office.
Then they get to this PC, and does same thing did with me locks up but doesnt crash for them. Its a custom built PC by the way, they play with it a good hour and a half,
then say that I have to deal with it and suggested I first reinstall windows with the PCI reciever thing in, and then try and track down drivers for the mobo.

Anyone ever had an issue like this?its running XP Pro,

Answer:Drivers wont install, tech guy says MOBO drivers bad

Can you get it going any way at all - preferably in Safe Mode? If it fires up, hit Fuinction 8 and select the option to disable automatic restart on system failure. That should leave a blue screen error message on for long enough to read it. If you can go all the way to Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking, see what the Event Viewer has to say in Control Panel>Administrative Tools.

Hello all!
I'll try to explain my problem.
Last week I tried to update my ati 5870 drivers with the latest 10.11. I had 10.9 so far so good.
My problem is that with these drivers I got this message from windows : display drivers have stop responding and they've been recoveres (or something similar).
Same happened with drivers 10.10.
I had to roll back to drivers 10.9 and everything still runs fine.
I'm a bit sad since my computer is brand new (built it in august 2010), no overclock, nothing strange installed, and mostly used for World of Warcraft gaming. I like to keep my computer clean and I'm not used to test or stress or overclok it, but just to play my fav game.
Temperatures are more than fine checked everything...

My overall system :
mobo : ASUS p67 deluxe Vs
on i7 920
6 giga ram corsair
vga ATI Gigabyte HD 5870
SSD HD with WIN 7 64 Pro
Raptor HD with only World of Warcraft installed
1 tera HD for storage

My system runs fine with these drivers 10.9, but I'd like to keep it update also for the online game which is constantly updating to newer versions.

I kindly ask you to give me a solution to this issue of mine that is preventing me from sleeping....

Thanks a lot

Blue hi

New drivers are released to fix problems. they arent any faster, or better. Sometimes when they fix one problem they create another so why the urgent need to be on 10.11? Might be slower or not work at all

Hi again!

Well, I have the following brand new rig I just built:

Intel i5-2500k
EVGA Z68 FTW 160-SB-E689-KR
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB RAM
SeaSonic X Series X-850
XFX 6870 Double D
ZALMAN LQ-315 Water Cooler

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I allowed Windows to do all the critical updates. Everything appears to work perfect.

Now I am faced with the decision on whether or not to install all the EVGA recommended drivers from the EVGA website for this specific motherboard.

My million dollar question: Do I HAVE to install the drivers for my motherboard, or can I let Windows choose the drivers?

Second question: How do I know if my present drivers are good enough to get the job done?

Please help me if you can.

Thanks,

Soar

PS No RAID or fancy stuff that needs the drivers except for maybe the LAN [which works perfect now], USB 3.0 [which I will try tonight], and audio [which I will try tonight].

Does anyone else NOT install the motherboard drivers or am I the only one considering this route?

Thanks,

Soar

Answer:Do I HAVE to install the drivers for my motherboard, or can I let Windows choose the drivers?

Windows does NOT detect every piece of hardware and check the manufacturer's websites to see if you have the proper/most up to date drivers. It will only install generic drivers which will allow the hardware to function but it cant remove some abilities of the hardware.

So really do you want to rely on something that just installs a driver to get it to work but may limit what it can do or do you trust the people who make the product to give you the right tools for the right job?

If you think the former, then let Windows decide. If you choose the later, get the drivers yourself from the manufacturer.

Microsoft is in no way, shapr or form responsible for drivers. They install generic drivers to get things operational but operational does not mean optimized for anything more than functional. You can easily get much better performance from drivers from the manufacturer than you would from Microsoft.

Is ther a way to stop windows from installing the drivers to begin with?

Answer:Trying to install widcomm drivers. Getting overrun by windows drivers

First. Do not connect the usb device.

Install the drivers for the device, and only connect the device when either prompted to do so, or after the installation is complete.

My Dell XPS L502x is 14 months old (i7, 8GB, 689GB HDD, HM77, Nvidia 540M GT). I have installed all latest drivers for my laptop from Dell website. But those are still more than 6 months old. When I use Intel Driver update utility, it shows new version of drivers available. Even my nvidia control panel shows new driver available.
Is it Okay to update drivers from intel and nvidia website and replace drivers from Dell. I heard that Dell mods the drivers for thier laptops before supplying to thier users.

Answer:Should I update my stock Dell Drivers to Intel Drivers.

S"hould you", that is up to you, but the Intel drivers are the best for your computer. If you decide to change your drivers, start with a system restore point.
If you are not having specific problems, you probably will not notice any improvement however.

Answer:Does firmware drivers get completely replaced by OS drivers at boot?

I have never heard of an operating system install affecting BIOS is anyway what so ever. If you are having issues it is most likely related to your drivers imo. Search you PC manufactures website for drivers and download the most current stable version and install those.

Hello. I have a MSI NF750-G55 motherboard which came with Nvidia sound drivers. Windows update even provided an update for the nvidia drivers once I connected to the internet.

However, I also know that there are Realtek sound drivers. Will my system be more stable if I just install the nvidia drivers or should I install the realtek HD drivers too? Or would having 2 sound drivers cause freezes?

I appreciate any advice. So far all my sound works great so that isn't an issue, and I don't really care about having the realtek audio manager.

Answer:Nvidia sound drivers, realtek drivers, or both?

Basically, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The sound is a Realtek chip on the motherboard, thus the Realtek would be the first choice, but if other supplied drivers work and you have all functions there is no need for additional drivers. The Microsoft drivers are actually Realtek drivers (but Microsoft can be several versions behind due to their validation process).

hi, can somebody tell me that drivers for AGP cards with ref to nvidia available on nvidia's own website are better to use or ones available on 3rd party websites are betters. For instance now a days the latest version of driver available on nvidia's website is 81.98, however, on some other sites e.g www.guru3d.com, latest version of driver i.e later version then 81.98 is available for nvidia cards. So my question is: is it better to go with the one available on nvidia's own site or the other one????

thnx :grinthumb

Answer:Are nvidia's own website drivers better or third party drivers???

I only use the WHQL drivers on Nvidia's site. Newer versions may just be beta versions or modified (hacked) drivers.

Recently I have decided to update the USB 3.0 drivers on my MSI Z97 PC MATE motherboard as it turned out that they weren't installed, and because I bought a USB 3.0 memory stick. When I just got this motherboard I didn't install them as after doing so I got a BSOD and had to do a system restore. Now that I've seen that a newer version is available, I decided to update along side my BIOS and other drivers. The updates went find with no problems, and the USB 3.0 ports are working great.

However, every time I start up my PC there's like a 10 second delay before I can use anything connected to the USB ports, which is rather annoying as some of my programs rely on some of the USB devices to be connected at startup, so I have to configure them one by one manually after startup. What has also happened is that the desktop icon positions aren't saving, and nor is the position/size of windows.

I'm thinking that it may have also been something to do with the registry as I cleaned it with CCleaner (not a good idea, it broke my Chrome updates a while ago). Can anyone please help? I'm really out of options and this is really annoying me. So far I tried to make it so that all of the USB related services are run automatically on startup, I tried restoring the old registry... Perhaps there's a way to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

Whats the recommended installation procedure for installing drivers for specific hardware from a developers site or using the windows 7 default drivers?

For example when I install my windows 7 x64 Betas it found and installed the drivers for my chipset and everything fine. However browsing my Motherboard manufactures website I see they Drivers for chipset, audio, and other components I can download.

Would you recommend I stick with Microsoft drivers or use the drivers on the developers site?

Answer:Developer Drivers Vs Microsoft Built In Drivers?

If there's no seven drivers from mfg, stick with MS's.

If there is seven drivers from mfg, stick with mfg's.

If there's no seven drivers from either MS or MFG throw vista/xp drivers.

That's what I'm doing so far.

Just in the process of reinstalling my Win7 OS. I have an ATI Radeon HD5750 Graphics Card and when Windows was installing I noticed that it installed drivers for the graphic card. In my previous install I had the Catalyst Control Centre installed but never ever used it for anything that I know of. So my question is, do I need to install the CCC package from the ATI site or are the windows installed drivers just as good. On a similar tack without starting a new thread. Do I need to reinstall the chipset drivers for my Gigabyte MA770T-UD3 Motherboard or are they still installed?.

Answer:Windows 7 drivers or ATI graphic card drivers?.

If you have an ATI graphics card/chip...some say that you don't need to install CCC.

I have a history of ATI cards/chipsets and I always install the full package because the card/chip works properly and I don't care about the fact that I don't ever use CCC.

Any drivers installed by Windows by default will work...but for optimum use of the graphics function, you probably need to install the drivers provided by the system or motherboard manufacturer.

Anytime an O/S is reinstalled...all previous system files are flushed.  Of course, a clean install fllushes everything.

I am writing this on a Windows 7 based Samsung Netbook with an Intel Atom inside (and the Starter edition of Win7) However, I also recently acquired an Acer Laptop - (E1-530) which came with Windows 8.0...

After downloading and trying Win8.1 for a week or so, I decided to try Linux - can't even remember which version - Ubuntu I think, though neither went well, so let's gloss over that.

Anyway, I bought a copy of Windoze 7 32bit online for the Acer and installed that, but now my system tells me that I don't have a genuine version, and I've 5 missing drivers - and because I have no wi-fi, I can't download them directly...

Ethernet controller
Network Controller
PCI simple Controller
SM Bus Controller
USB Controller

And to make matters more complex, the Acer is a 64bit version...Oh... and I've already tried downloading them from Acer, and other System setup sites, with downloader s/w... But, they all seem to drive me nuts with ads, and viruses.

Answers on a post-card please... ;?)

Answer:Device Drivers for Laptop with no network drivers...

all of the relevant drivers can be downloaded from the acer website for your laptop.

you can gain access to the internet from the acer by plugging an ethernet cable in directly from your router/modem.

only download from trusted sources, and when it comes to drivers only download from the vendor. just go onto the acer website, click support or downloads. and fill out the form. making sure you choose win 7 64bit as well as the correct model of laptop.

My son's T43 tanked, and I replaced the HD. I've loaded the drivers from the site, and transferred them to the T43.  However, still no internet access, no ethernet, audio - nothing under the "other devices" are showing the drivers as existing or having been loaded.   This is not the first computer or laptop that I've restored, either.  Prior to the HD dying, everything worked - wireless internet, sound, everything.  Any ideas?

Answer:T43 - Changed HD, loaded drivers, but drivers are taking.

Welcome to the forum!Downloading the drivers is just the first step of the process, after that they must be unpacked from their appropriate location in the Win subfolder. For instance, your audio driver would be in C>Drivers>Win>Audio and you'd have to run the setup file from there.I'm fairly certain that most of the files needed are in your Win subfolder just waiting to be unpacked.Hope this helps.

Hi, I need help with crashing due to kernel drivers. This problem started on Windows 8, and I upgraded to Windows 10, and is still crashing. I have done many things to attempt to fix this problem, such as using DDR to uninstall drivers, rolling back old drivers etc., and none of this has worked. I have gone into event manager and the one thing that seems to always occur is:"The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ROOT\WPD\0000." at startup. While I am experienced with computers, I have no idea how to fix this. So if anybody knows how to fix this, can you please tell me? Also, if anyone needs pictures of the crashed scree, debug info, etc. I will gladly provide it. Thanks!

Answer:Kernel Drivers Crashing for all NVIDIA drivers with GTX 745

Out of curiosity, what driver version are you running?
Also, try going to Nvidia Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings -> Power Management Mode, set it to High Performance not Adaptive and see if that helps

Hi all.
I'm trying to reinstall Intel MB drivers on my HTPC computer, after a power breakdown at home:
The computer shutdown abruptly of course, and when I reopened it, I noticed that I can't use my USB keyboard or any other USb devices.

By checking Device Manager I saw that all USB devices had the yellow exclamation mark on them. Snapshot:

Tried to reinstall my mb's chipset drivers but it wouldn't install. I get an error when it wants to install USB drivers. Weird stuff:

What would you suggest me to do before I waste two hours of my life to reinstall windows?

Hi folks!

There is a site out there that tests your system and tells you which drivers are bad and which are good (outdated and current). Can someong post the link to that site as I have forgotten to bookmark the site and would like to get back to it.

Thanks so much and may God bless,
Peter

I recent bought a G70, wiped Windows 8 and installed Window 7 64bit Ultimate.  Tried installing WLAN drivers from Lenovo site, and the installer pops up and gives me a "No appropriate driver to be installed" error. PCI ID on the Network adaptor: PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0041&SUBSYS_354517AA&REV_20PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0041&SUBSYS_354517AAPCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0041&CC_028000PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0041&CC_0280 Indicates that I have a Qualcomm Atheros AR9285. Installing the Atheros drivers directly from the Lenovo driver package has no effect.  Looking for drivers specifically for this device elsewhere hasn't yielded me anything.  I am on a wired LAN until I get this figured out, which (see other post) means I have to deal with the most poorly designed ethernet slot ever conceived. I'm ready to restore this to factory and return to sende;, please help.

Answer:G70 Windows 7 WLAN Drivers - No drivers found

I am looking at the driver package for a G70-70 for WiFi adapters that would appear to cover several manufactures of WiFi cards all in one download.  Sometimes the main lenovo installer does not find the installed hardware correctly.  In this case I usually drill down in the file to the folder that corresponds with my hardware and install using the setup.exe program from within that same folder. If this does not work, I would try a BIOS reset, then check if it will install from the file. Good luck.

a few months back a friend of mine tried to enter a CD into my primary disk drive...but it wouldnt read, rather, My Computer didnt even show me as having the CD drives, here i am a few months later, and now i wish to use my drives [havent had a need for a while so i sorta forgot about them >.>]

i checked Computer Management > Device Manager, and it marked each drive under DVD/CD-ROM drives as:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

i then did the DriverAgent scan, it did reconize the drives, but checked them off as normal...?

the hardware names are listed as:
DVD/CD-ROM drives
WW3450Z QSB855L SCSI
SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM SCSI
TATUNG CD-1216E
LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-4832K

the LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-4832K is my primary, at the moment...im not even positive which is secondary, or even what the other 2 drives are [had a friend of my build the PC, he added in some parts i didnt buy/already have, of his own, just ones he had laying around] these drives had worked fined for the frist 4 months or so since the upgrade of my PC...i tried to google a driver for my primary, but only could find a firmware update, which, ironically requires to be burned to a CD,to even try and update...so now i am in desperation...i cannot find the driver anywhere, and havent even been worried about where to find/what ... My specs are in my signature. everytime I load the beta drivers and then reset my computer the video drivers are non existant (As in everything is massive and there is no Nvidia Control panel) I loaded the official drivers and the issue went away. I have to reload my official drivers twice before it allows me to Put Nvidia Surround back on (Triple display) or even the SLI screen. It just is non existant, which is weird because it shows both of my video cards. I have tested my video cards for errors, I have Format and reloaded my operating system. I am out of things to try. These issues did not occur until I installed my SSD about 5 months back but I have tested the SSD and ran CHKDSK. I guess my last resort is to see what you all think out there. On another issue, My operating system randomly becomes unresponsive for 30 seconds - 1minute And this is after 2 Format and reloads!

Answer:No Video drivers on reset! (Only on beta Drivers)

if you are using a 64bit OS its because the beta drivers are not WHQL certified which means they are not signed drivers so they are automatically ignored by windows when you boot up. i haven't used a 64bit OS in a long time but if i remember correctly you have to press F8 during the boot up and ignore the driver signitures or something along those lines.

I'm having problems downloading from the following site and was wondering if anyone else is too, and if anyone knows of alternate sites?First, I'm going toclick hereto download nvidia graphics drivers. After clicking in the third window, I click on "Go" which takes me to another window to choose a download site, and then onto another window at the bottom of which I click on "Accept", and that's where nothing happens. I can go no further and therefore am unable to download drivers. I've tried this in both Explorer and Firefox. Thanks!

Answer:Nvidia Graphics Drivers and Aopen M/B Drivers

Ignore that part of the title of this thread which says "Aopen M/B Drivers".
