Question: Thinkpad Yoga 11e 20d9 Memory Upgrade Issues

I recently purchased a Yoga 11e 20d9 model and so far I'm loving it. However, I wanted to upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb. I purchased Crucial 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) as all the reviews I read said this was okay to use, however, everytime I install the memory and I try to charge the laptop at the same time it crashes. I can run windows 10 perfectly without issue up until I try to charge it. I can charge ther laptop when the laptop is off but for the life of me I can't get it to coexist. I installed the original ram and everything works perfectly. Even if I'm in bios, as soon as I plug in the charger the laptop will crash. It literally has rips on the screen and everything fades out. As soon as I unplug it, the laptop works flawlessly. I returned the memory and got a replacement and it does the same exact thing. I updated both the BIOS and battery firmware. I am out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

Try a different memory module again. It could be that this one is faulty too.If you still have issues, you could also try a different brand like G-Skill, Corsair, Samsung, ...Which is the manufacturer of the original SODIMM? Micron, Hynix or Samsung?

I snagged a ThinkPad Yoga 11 20D9 from Woot about four months ago and love almost everything about it.  So much so, that I encouraged a co-worker who was replacing her Acer netbook to choose the same model.  I began to notice that my battery life wasn't lasting.  It would drain 30% to 40% overnight even when I turned it off.  It would barely make it a full day if left it in suspend.  I asked my co-worker if she saw the same issue, and she even tested suspend for 4-hours, and the battery dropped negligably. I then began to think where I might have deviated, and on my work-issued ThinkPad x230t, I leave USB device-charging enabled in the BIOS.  I had enabled that feature on the 11e, but also enabled the unplugged-AC mode on the 11e.   It turns out that on the ThinkPad Yoga 11e I own (20D9), the circuit for the unplugged-AC USB device-charging feature will drain your battery even when your 11e is fully turned off and absent anything plugged in to the USB ports. I opted to use a "sledgehammer" approach and reset the BIOS to factory defaults, and then re-enabled USB device charging when plugged in to AC (only). If you see diminished battery life and you "ticked" that setting in the BIOS, it might be worth a try to disable the unplugged AC mode for USB device charging.

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Hi,I have recently upgraded to windows 10 from windows 8.1 and i am facing the followong issues.When i am in tablet mode, my screen doesn not rotate and change its orientation. Its in the same orientation mode as desktop mode.When i put it in tent mode, the screen is upside down,  Can someone please help me out with this problem? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums. Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad S1 Yoga?
 
I have a different Yoga Machine, but when I upgraded to Windows 10 it took me some work updating the drivers to stabilize it. Maybe you can try to updating the driver.
 
I try that in this order:
1) Windows Update - Check for any update there
2) Use Lenovo System Update to see if it find any BIOS or Driver update
3) Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store.
4) Sometimes some newer drivers does not show on System Update or on Lenovo Companion. Check also the "Lenovo Support Site" with you full model number and check for any driver... you can sort driver by date.
 
But maybe your computer is a older one and does not have Windows 10 drivers on the Lenovo Site.
In that case I also use "DriverEasy" but that is un-support from Lenovo and AS IS under your own risk. But in my case that tool helped me out a lot to find newer drivers on my machine.
I hope this tips can you some help.

Hi,  I have a Thinkpad Yoga S1 which has served me well for a year or so.  Recently it has started to develop a problem where it "stalls" upon boot.  1. Laptop is powered off2. Press power button3. laptop keyboard lights up and fan begins spinning4. about 3 seconds later the entire system shuts down5. The process repeats Sometimes I can leave it in this cycle for 3+ minutes and it'll just keep cycling. If I close the screen it halts the cycle (shuts the computer down) and occassionally upon power up it'll cycle a couple of times and then boot into Windows. Here is a video of the symptom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THCn6yFuprY   When it has booted into Windows, I have taken the liberty of running a Lenovo Solution Centre hardware scan. Processor, Memory and Motherboard all came back good.However, when I tried to update the BIOS, the system returned an "Error-116 Failed to read BIOS from ROM" Further, "Error 116" is listed as an IBM System board read/write error.  Unfortunately my warranty ran out a couple of months ago, so I'm looking at a self fix, and don't have any appetite to pay £800 for a new main board (besides, the one in my laptop was a new one installed by IBM under a warranty repair 4 months ago! It shouldn't be broken).  Can anyone suggest any fixes?

(Yoga 11e 20D9). The keyboard is very intermittent. The mouse sometimes stops working. Most of the time if I close the lid for several seconds and open it again, it will work. I've opened a support issue. They provided a "new*" keyboard which I installed. Made no difference. Then they recommended that I update all the drivers, etc. and run diagnostics. No problems found. Power management update actually seemed to make Touchpad very flaky. Removed. Now they are saying to take it to a repair center. When I call there, the guy says he's never heard of the problem (even though it's easy to find others with the problem online). He wants to replace the motherboard. Strongly considering just sending it back. (The keyboard wasn't working when I opened it for the very first time out of the box. Then it started working a few minutes later after I rebooted. I thought it was just a peculiarity of these laptop/tablet things. I should have just sent it back before I invested hours in getting the thing all set up.) *new = older than the original one according to date stamp

There is no "nice" option to disable touchscreen, for what I read you need to disable it from the Windows Device Manager.
 
It is like: Open Device Manager > expand "Human Interface Devices" > right-click "HID-compliant touch screen" and select "Disable".
 
Check if you find the correct "Human Interface Devices" to disable. This is how users are disable the touchscreen.

I was checking the support site for this model.  Can you check which BIOS version are you using.
On the latest BIOS update readme there is a fix related to the keyboard. I'm not sure if it will help you solve your problem but you can give it a try.

I bought this Yoga 11e (20D9) in December 2014 and Windows 8.1 was installed as default.From last Friday, 29th May 2015, touch screen has stopped responding totally.For six months, there was no fall or damage or even a scratch in / outside of the laptop. After trying all the possible suggestions found in this forum and the other web sites, I have reset it to factory default - fully removed everything and installed Windows. And then all the Windows Updates and also Lenovo Updates completely. Still the touch screen is not working or responsive at all. I think I did all things I can try. Now I am about to claim warranty service.Last Decempber, I decided to buy this Lenovo products which I had believed as the most reliable laptop, but it does not have  that much good quality after all.

I had the same problem.  After performing a clean-install of Windows 10 Pro (Did not like all that blotware that Lenovo puts in these systems) and "thinking" that I had installed all drivers, I found that touchscreen did not work.  I solved it by RE-installing the i2c drivers (downloaded from Yoga 11e support page).  It was confusing because there was nothing in Device Manager that indicated any drivers were missing, plus when I ran the .exe file for the i2c drivers all it did was "extract" the files, but it did not install anything!So here is how I went about it:  Opened device manager, clicked on "system devices" to locate the i2c device.  I looked for anything with "i2c" in it, and saw 2 entries: "Intel Atom Celeron Pentium Processor............i2c........[etc, etc]".  I went ahead and manually installed the drivers: right-clicked the item, clidked "update driver software", clidked "browse my computer for driver software", and navigated to where the driver files had been extracted to-as explained above.  After the drivers were installed successfully, the names of the devices changed to "i2c controller".  Rebooted the computer and VOILA! The touch screen worked again! Opened "control panel", "system" and there it said: "Touch Support With 10 Touch Points"

I am running Windows 10 on a Thinkpad 11e Model 20D90020US and my internet connection is acting funky. I have Fios 75/75 Mbps service into my house and it regularly exceeds this speed so I know the issue isn't with the service provider.  I could be in the same room as my wireless router and only be getting 25/25 Mbps. If I disable and then enable the network device, I might get that 75/75 Mbps connection again, but it is short lived regardless of where I am in my house.  I've already updated drivers for my network device through the Windows 10 Device Manager and that hasn't solved the problem. What else can I do to possibly solve this issue, short of replacing the wireless adapter?  Side question: If I replace the wireless adapter (which has the FRU of 04X6087), do I need that exact part as a replacement? The last time I posted about wireless adapters, I was directed here for FRU parts: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/thinkpad_11e_yoga11e_fru_bom_20141210.pdf Now I'm seeing that the FRU of my current wireless adapter isn't on this list. Can I replace my current card with, say, the Intel 7260 with a FRU of 04X6008? Thanks in advance for any help given!

After running Windows updates, the Intel HD Graphics adapter has an error which takes out the use of multiple screens either through the HDMI out or USB 2.0.  I have tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter, uninstalling and re-installing the driver.  Searched on Intel and Lenovo sites for a driver that will work with no luck.  The only thing I have found to work so far is restoring to before the updates were ran - which only last so long until the updates run again. Anyone have any ideas?

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

The new ThinkPad Yoga 12? is having onboard memory, which is integrated on the system board only and this cannot be upgradable. You can purchase either with 4Gb or 8Gb RAM.

I got my self a Thinkpad S1 Yoga (20CD) and I have two issues;1) The wireless lan driver fails and startup. (Dual Band AC 7260)2) The trackpad acts as a simple mouse. (ultranav driver is installed) I'm running Windows 8.1pro (x64). All drivers are updated and the BIOS is updated. The wireless lan driver starts normally when I disable USB3 support in the bios or disable the "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)" in de device manager.When I disable and enable the wireless lan driver again the driver works normally. The trackpad does not support actions like scrolling. Regards, Roberto

When I switched from Toshiba to the S1, the gestures were much different on the trackpads.  Are you using two fingers to scroll?

Hello, I just registered here yesterday because I am having lot's of troubles with my Thinkpad Yoga (i7, hdd+ssd). Starting from the delivery which was postponed for several days (day by day) I ve been having many unexpected troubles with my first Lenovo Thinkpad..... Right after having it for 2 weeks, the keyboard stopped working. First some keys where giving constantly letters to the laptop and then they stopped working. The funny thing was that only some keys did not work anymore. A repair center replaced the keyboard due to warranty, but there the problem got only slightly better.  After the repair the keyboard backlight does not work anymore and neither the trackball. Additionally I had to install all my software again because something with the mapping table was wrong... The repair shop told me they gonna check it again which is nice of course, but on the other hand I never had so many issues with a Laptop within the first two months...  4 days ago the keys F9 to F12 stopped working again and today the Laptop was totally unresponsive and seemed to be switched off but instead it was getting very hot. I was not able to reset or switch it off in any way and the only option I had was to take some external fans and wait for the battery to die...  Afterwards it all seemed well again.... Has anybody had similiar issues and has recommendations for me how to prevent further troubles with that laptop?... Hello, I finally got my new Thinkpad Yoga S1, but there seem to be some issues with the NFC module. After startup, if I open the device manager it looks fine, but after a few minutes the "NFC proximity device" driver status changes to shows "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". Under Details > Problem Code it says "0000002B", and under Details > Problem Status "The Request is not supported/C00000BB". In the System Event Log I am also getting a few "BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device." errors at the time it fails. If I do a right-click > Disable and then right-click > Enable on the device, it works again for a few minutes, but then shows the same error again. I'm using Windows 8.1, fully updated with Windows update, and all drivers/BIOS updated using the Lenovo tool. The NFC driver is version 1.1.0.3130 from 17/12/2013. I also had an issue where the Lenovo QuickControl together with "Windows Driver Foundation - User-Mode Driver" background process took up 95% of the CPU time all the time, which I solved by deinstalling QuickControl. I'm thinking the two issues might be related, with the QuickControl trying to unsuccesfully poll the NFC device. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Jan

I found out that Windows 8.1 Update 1 has just been released. This seems to have fixed the problem. After the update I had an error about the Lenovo PM Device, saying that it had corrup registry information. Deleting and re-detecting the PM device fixed the problem, and now everything appears to be working.

As with many Ultrabook machines, the RAM is soldered to the system board, so there's no way to upgrade it short of swapping in different board. Hello everyone , as per subject i ' m thinking about upgrading the 256 GB SSD mounted on my TPY260 . Searching on the internet i found out that the best option for the upgrade would be the 500GB "Crucial" SSD .  Are there any other possibilieties ? The SSD can be upgraded.  I have a ThinkPad Yoga 260 that I upgraded to 16GB, but there are complications.  I believe that there was difficulty with interference from WWAN antennas and RAM modules, so the models that come with the antenna wires have soldered RAM.  It looks to me like that model doesn't have WWAN so I would guess it has socketed RAM, but I have no way to be sure without looking inside.

 Hello I just bought the Thinkpad Yoga 14 with i5/8GB DDR3/1TB Hybrid drive I also bought an Intel 240GB SDD to upgrade to. I have tried to clone HDD to SSD but it just gives a blank screen or jumps back to the boot select screen when attemping to boot.  I also tried to boot from a USB with Windows 8 on it, then install on the SSD, but the same thing happens when trying to boot from USB (blank screen, or jumps back to the boot select screen. I tried turning off Secure Boot, boot to legacy mode, boot order, Windows support mode off/on... nothing works. Lenovo phone technical support will not support upgrades. Please any help would be great.

Hi, I just bought TPY 14 20DM009GUS . I have two questions to bother you. First, does this computer support digitizer pen? Second question is about the SSD upgrade. After I replace the HDD with SDD, can I still use the m2 16GB SSD as cache (though "ExpressCache")? I read some online tutorials and they always uninstall ExpressCache and remove the m2 SSD. Why not still keep using the m2 SSD as cache after the SSD upgrade? Thank you!

I just purchased two 2nd gen yoga thinkpads. I am trying to play a movie through the updated netflix app and the video just flickers .  Not sure if this is a Yoga issue or Netflix problem.  I have tried reloading the app and rebooting.  I thought it may be a Yoga issue if both of my Yogas are having the same exact issue. Video plays fine through any other app or browser.  Thanks for your help.

Hi there, I just bought a brandnew Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga (i7 with Digitizer) with the integrated "Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" Wifi Module. It communicates with a FritzBox 7390 router. I ran the "Lenovo System Update 5" and installed all the drivers.No mather what I did, I had wifi issues. 1-5 Mbps max (~50 Mbps possible).. every 5 Minutes the connection to the router was lost... Common problems a lot of users are experiencing. After that I downloaded the driver from the Lenovo Support site. It had a newer signature... but still the same problems.  I found out, that the new driver, that I found at the Intel Support Page, solves my issues. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24460  So for anyone who has the same annyoing issues, remove your driver, and install the one from Intel.And for the Lenovo Support.Could you Update the driver, in your "System Updater" Programm and on the Webpage?Atleast for me, the outdated driver is producing a lot of problems.  Just wanted to shareDan

I just purchased a ThinkPad S1 Yoga two days ago. The first day of use was flawless, however the second day it began freezing and defaulting to a blue screen. When the machine is turned off and turned back on it boots up, works for a approximately 2-3 mins and locks up again. I checked the WIFI connectivity, no issues. Can anyone help with this issue?

Hi everyone, I received my ThinkPad Yoga yesterday. Upon booting it up, everything seemed to be working fine. I set it up and everything without a hitch. Then I got to the OS (Win 8.1). The keyboard just didn't respond at all. So I got fed up with trying to figure it out (a USB keyboard didn't work either), so I installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview since I would be installing it eventually anyway. Same issue, worked at boot and at login screen, stopped working after that. This time it made a noise though. The Yoga makes a very strange "you can't do that" type of noise every time I push a key. I then tried Ubuntu, on which the keyboard works find, but upon installing Windows 10 again I have the same issue.I'm totally confused at this point. I've obviously tried every driver I could possibly find for the device. I've been looking everywhere and I can't find anyone with a similar issue. I have the model with the Wacom stylus / digitizer, and it's the Signature Edition, if that matters. Any help is appreciated. P.S. Sorry for the wall of text ;p

Hi all, I'm hoping desperately you can help. The touchpad on my ThinkPad Yoga has always been iffy, since I got it, in the sense, that it seems to randomly turn itself off, especially if windows has applied an update. In the past I've been able to enable it again, but not this time. Today I went to use my laptop and the touchpad didn't respond. In the Lenovo message centre it said it was disabled (although I didn't disable it). I looked up how to enable it and ended up in the device manager. In the touchpad properties it said: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) But when I looked at the other options and asked it to update drivers, it said it was already enabled and that the drivers were up to date.  So I googled more and the info seemed to indicate to uninstall the drivers, then reinstall them. So I uninstalled them, and downloaded some from the Lenovo site to reinstall. When reinstalling though, it won't work. It says the touchpad doesn't exist. Indeed now in the device manager the touchpad isn't listed, but it does say PS/2 compatible mouse there instead. This also has the same error message in the properties: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. After i ve updated to windows 10 i cant change the auto rotation if im not on tablet mode, also in tablet mode the trackpoint isnt disabled. are there any tips or recommendations about these issues?20DM000VUS is my laptop model.

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

 Hello, Just wondering of anyone on the forum or someone from Lenovo can help. I am not technologically savy and mostly just a user of Microsoft software. My wireless connection on my new Thinkpad Yoga is slow and cannot stream media such as I Player or I Player radio without stopping. My four years old sony vaio laptop has no problem doing these things. I've read on the forum that deleting the Lenovo EMC Storage Connector helps. I have done this but the connection is still poor. I then phoned Lenovo technical support, they asked me to re-download the wireless driver and hot key driver and then try the wireless connection on a different network to see if it is still slow and if it is contact them again. I will do this soon to test it. Does anyone have any other ideas what could be the problem. I really like the Thinkpad Yoga and it would be ashame to take it back if this can't be fixed. Interestingly the technical support person did not know or acknowledge the problem with the Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. Hope someone can help. Many thanks.

Hello, Sorry to bump this up but I'm still hoping there might be some advice out there. I've tested the yoga thinkpad on two other wifi fibre optic broadband networks and it worked fine. On my own EE normal broadband it still struggles and can't play a 30 min I player programme without stopping every three minutes. What I don't understand is that my sony vaio laptop works fine on the same network. The other weird thing is when I do a speedtest on speednet.com, as it's downloading, the test file it shows speed of about 15 MBS (not bad) but it can't quite finish downloading the file, just hover there. No idea why, could this indicate a problem? I will contact EE technical support to see if there is anything their end. Cheers,James

Hi I purchased a Thinkpad Yoga for use as my main work PC nd took out extended cover. i was initially pleased with my purchase but found the i7/8GB/1T HDD was slow and unresponsive which i suspect is the HDD. After a while the laptop failed to go into hibernate and when i went to get it from my laptop case it was extremely hot, the lenovo logo affixed to the wristwrest had fell off and so had a rubber foot.The laptop continued to get very warm in use and Lenovo send an engineer to replace the cooling fan. Lenovo were unable to replace the rubber feet or the logo because these dont have a SKU which is ridiculous. This means the laptop is not stable on a desk and the ground clearance is inconsistent and may be causing further overheatingI went to continue an important work project today and have been greeted with HDD 0 not found. It would appear the main hard disk has failed causing me to lose some data..and yes I know a backup is my responsibilityHaving purchased the mot expensive Yoga at the time I am extremely disappointed with the reliability of what I thought was a road warriors laptop.I am wondering if my early adoption of the Yoga was a mistake or whether they are all unreliable and look forward to any replies thanks

Just received my Thinkpad YOGA and had a question regarding the case.  The front area of the frame where you rest your palms while typing does not seem solid.  Everytime I put my hands of the laptop it makes a creaking sound because the case is shifting slightly.  Is this a common problem with this PC or this a malfunction that I should send in for repair?

Hello. I am having serious problems with my Thinkpad Yoga(20CD0038GE) Touchpad. I'm on the newest driver (18.0.7.40) and on Windows 8.1 Update 1. Very often after starting up the laptop the touchpad doesn't recognize any movement so the cursor stays still. However I can still scroll with two fingers. If I start Synmood.exe I can see that it actually does recognize touch input but the cursor does not move. Also the touchpad is not listed in the touchpad settings then. A restart seems to solve this but doing this every time is very time consuming and distracting. Also very often the two finger right click option disables itself without any reason. I couldn't reproduce this as it always happens at a random time. I always have to go back to the Touchpad settings and recheck the two finger right click option. Scrolling is very bugged and inconsistent. In Firefox it is very laggy and slow whereas in Internet Explorer it's very fluid. In Steam it doesn't work at all. Sometimes the Synaptics drivers won't load at all and I have to manually start them to get access to all the gestures. Even then it may not work and I have to restart the whole laptop. I already reinstalled the drivers two times to see if it gets better but it doesn't change. Downgrading to an older driver brings up different problems which are even worse. All this is very annoying distracting and hinders me from doing my work. Hi,I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 inch notebook. I have had this computer for about 18 months and the screen is completely ruined in many places. I have the matte screen and it appears that the pen has been scratching the soft matte finnish at many places. There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Looking at the corner of the the screen, it looks like there is a screenprotector or similar on the device. Is this how Lenovo makes their matte screens? Just pasting a screen protector on top of a glossy screen? If so, would it be possible for me to remove it without damaging the actual screen and get rid of the scratches and smudges? Cheers Cheers

I am having issues with a ThinkPad Yoga model 20C0. It is very selective on what WiFi network it would connect to. Sometimes it goes on Limited Connectivity and does not conenct to anything until you disable and enable Wi-Fi.  In some cases it will connect to a WiFi network and other people would be knock out of the network, in other cases it will connect and after a few minutes the connection will drop and will not reconnect after a reboot. According to an article that reviews the ThinkPad Yoga, it is a Windows 8 (or 8.1) issue that happens also on other machines. Link to article: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga.htm

Hello. I have purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad couple of weeks ago and am struggling to get TouchPad working properly since then.What I want to achieve is a flawless TouchPad experience, which includes:Right button click with two fingers only, right click zone disabled;Natural vertical scrolling;Natural ?back? and ?forward? three-finger swipe (i. e. left to right ? backward).On the first boot-up my laptop updated UltraNav drivers to the latest version from Lenovo support site. It?s version 17.0.12.60 from January 14 2014. This driver is not stable at all and has various issues and drawbacks:Metro apps are crashing when scrolling (Twitter, Facebook etc);You need to click and activate the scrolling zone, hovering the cursor over it is not enough. As a result in start menu tiles are selected successively while scrolling (white border around), and you can?t check several tiles if you need to scroll;It?s impossible to disable the right-click zone;When scrolling in classic-UI apps the cursor sometimes changes to an arrow with a scrollbar. This inconsistency is annoying.Driver tuning window is all crippled, labels are not formatted properly, and some of them are not visible;It is impossible to change to natural backward and forward swipe.I then downgraded to Lenovo?s driver 17.0.9 as of October 25 2013. I've done furhter researching and found out some other strange Lenovo's TouchPad driver behaviour. In any verion you can't simply change registry values to fine tune TouchPad. Every single value is overwritten by Rundll32.exe and SynTPEnh.exe each time the system starts or mouse settings opened. As a result you can't disable right button (ExButton4Action key). Version 17.0.9 does not make Metro apps crash and scrolling works without activating selection (no white border around tiles). It also disables right button for both one- and two-finger click if you turn off two-finger click.

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

I have over 30 Yoga 12 that I administer. I have now had 2 that have keyboard issues where certain / most keys stop working. The keys either don't work at all or give incorrect input. Such as pressing shift makes tab key action occurr or pressing return makes x come up. It seems the only fix is replacing keyboard. Is there a known problem with these machines and their keyboards?

I've recently updated my machine.- Firmware for OneLink Pro (2.30.000 9-May-2016)- Driver for OneLink Pro (v11016 9-Sep-2016)- BIOS Update (did the update September 10th 2016) Since that I have several issues:- plugging in an SD card: Onelink "reconnects" audio via onlink diasables, network (wireless) reconnects; the same happens randomly several times a day. sometimes spotify stops working and I need to restart Spotify - Very annoying: Speakers connected to the OneLink make very loud noises (sounds like bad grounded electric system) whe the OneLink Pro ist reconnecting and when the Laptop ist "off" and Power for speakers and OneLink Proi ist "on" - When shutting down, the i-dot at the ThinkPad-logo keeps flashing. I recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga and found a few issues primarily in the trackpad. The trackpad appears to have a matte finish which greatly increases the friction between my finger and the trackpad itself. This supposed glass trackpad is not smooth and causes jumps and waves when making diagonal lines specifically. Can someone please try making a slow 45 degree line in paint or something and see how straight it comes out? I want to know if i'm the only person here or if it's a common issue.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga with a dead mainboard. My ThinkPad is the i5-4200U / 4GB model, and the mainboard says 'LA-A341P' on it. I've found a replacement mainboard online, with part number 03X5234. However, I have also found what appears to be the next model up from my board - an i7-4600U / 8GB model, part number 04X5478. Will the better model work in my laptop? Depends what you want... I actually want an i5 in my laptop because the i7 is overkill. In my case I also have a desktop PC with an i7 for doing video processing... So, I would prefer a less powerful chip to carry around with better battery life, less fan noise, etc. Rather than replace your system board with an i7, why not get yourself a whole new i7 gaming laptop for $200 from China if that is what you need?  If you have a read of the hardware maintenance manual there appears to be no difference between any of the system boards with regards to installation, so really it is your choice as to what tradeoff between portability and power you want to make. Dear all, I would like to upgrade the touchscreen on the Thinkpad Yoga 260 - I have the 1366x768 model (a long and annoying story!) and I really want the 1080 screen - for obvious reasons. I am relatively technically competent (I'm a tinkerer) and have carried out these sorts of procedures on other laptops in the past. Which brings me to my question... Having upgraded the screen on a T450 and run into the problem of the display driver not accepting the new screen (some issue relating to EDIDs, or something like that) (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/3t3z1d/lenovo_t450_lcd_replacement_cant_change_brightness... Am I going to encounter the same problem with the Yoga 260? Or potentially worse given that there are touch-screen issues involved too? Looking around at replacement panel assemblies they instruct not to use if the present resolution is wrong (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-5-FHD-LCD-LED-Touch-Screen-Assembly-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga-260-1920X1...) - it is just these particular panels, or am I screwed? Any success stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Hello all,For quite a while now, I've been looking to upgrade my SSD in my X1 Yoga.  As you may know, the X1 Yoga was available with either a SATA-based SSD or a PCIe-based SSD (NVMe).  Unfortunately, information about compatibility isn't easy to come by.  In fact, I never found a concrete answer to the question I have been asking all along:  Can an X1 Yoga (i5-6200U model) ordered with a SATA-based SSD be upgraded to an NVMe drive?  I found a lot of 'No' answers online, but with no proof of that actually being the case.  The only cases I found of people upgrading their SSDs were folks with the i7 system boards.  A few people have mentioned that Lenovo's official answer (when they asked) about the matter is that when you order it with a SATA SSD, you cannot upgrade to an NVMe drive.   I didn't want to believe that they'd have a different part number for an i5-6200U board w/ 8 GB RAM for an SATA-based system versus an NVMe system.  The slot physically accepts an M-keyed NVMe drive, despite the SSD in there being a B+M keyed drive.  The BIOS also has a boot option for an NVMe drive.   So, I took the plunge (and risk) and bought an NVMe drive, and am very pleased to report that it works just fine!  There was no drama.  The only thing I had to do was to change the boot option to boot from the NVMe disk instead of the built-in SATA one.   I can't speak for the newer models, but mine (20FQ, i5... I'm looking at ordering one of the new, second generation Thinkpad Yoga 12's.  I'd like to upgrade both the M.2 and 2.5" drives.  I know that the M.2 is 42mm, and the 2.5" is 7mm.  I've found drives that will fit, but I'm concerned about the BIOS whitelist.Here are the drives I'm looking at:- Transcend 256 GB SATA III 6Gb/s MTS400 42 mm M.2 SSD Solid State Drive TS256GMTS400 - WD Blue 1TB Laptop 7mm Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, SATA 6Gb/s, 5400 RPM, 8MB Cache WD10SPCX- Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E1T0B/AM) (If I splurge and go SSD)Any thoughts?Also, does anyone know yet if the S2's will be free of the ghosting issue?  If not, I'm going to have to go with the Aspire R7 Broadwell.

So I'm really at a loss with this issue.  I've done so much troubleshooting to no avail.  Removed soundcard and bluetooth and reinstalled.  Installed new drivers.  Deleting and repairing devices. Changing the WiFi to "Prefer 5.2GHz band".  Other troubleshooting based on discussions on other forums... The Problem. Brand new Thinkpad P71.  I have two of the same external speakers I've used with my iPhone via Bluetooth to stream audio and never had a problem.  The speakers are the Oontz 3XL. When I connect with my P71, it can go 24 hours or two minutes, but it will just suddenly stop playing audio.  The blue light on the speaker will turn off.  To get it to work again, I'll have to close the audio app and reconnect the Bluetooh.  Then it will run for anywhere from one minute to 24 hours and disconnect again. I also just bought a brand new Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2nd gen).  Exact same problem.  Did all the same troubleshooting. I mostly stream Sirius XM from a browser (and have tried different browsers as well).  I also play audio from iTunes.  The weird thing with iTunes is that when this happens, the Play/Pause button in the software will also stop working, unless I close the app and restart. It's definitely a Lenovo problem, since I am encountering the same problem on both systems.  I don't know if this could be related to BitDefender and/or Malware Bytes (both are inst... I just purchased a X1 Yoga 2nd Gen with a high-end configuration.  In theory, this is my ideal computer for home (which includes a lot of computer modeling work in evenings and weekends).
 
But I just returned it because I was experiencing a cascade of mostly mouse-related issues.  At times, these issues all affected the TrackPoint, TouchPad an X1 external travel mouse, so they were not device-specific.
 
I first noticed the mouse would freeze, and display a tiny scroll-bar pointer.  When I'd try to move the mouse, the scroll bar gliff would shift from vertical to horizontal, etc... but the mouse would not move and could not be used.  I would have to force a reboot and repeat until the problem went away.  I seemed to minimize this problem by changing a mouse setting in Devices / Mouse Properties / Thinkpad.  Under Enable TrackPoint, I changed the Middle Button Action to "Use as middle click".  This seemed to improve things...
 
But then the mouse started rapidly drifting across the screen, and this drifting process would go on and on until I rebooted (often several times).  When the mouse was drifting -- always towards the upper-right -- it was essentially impossible to use the computer.
 
I also found that the mouse buttons would quit working frequently.  This was most common when I had other processes running.  But the CPU (and memory) was far from maxed out -- I had it at 30-40%.  This pro... Read more

I've recently updated my Thinkpad Yoga S1 to Windows 10, and it was giving me a lot of issues. I've since switched back to Windows 8.1 and I'm appalled to see that these issues now carried over back into Windows 8.1. I had the common problem of the trackpad not working when I woke my laptop up from sleep mode, and I also had my trackpoint failing to even register. Additionally, when the trackpad did work, it would be laggy/choppy and basically unbearable to use. Any thoughts on a solution to this problem? I've updated the synaptic drivers more times than I can count...

... and some more issues with the Pro Dock. I have a Dell U3014 connected via Display Port. Resolution works fine, however... : 1) Dell Display Manager stopped working and reported "attach compatible LCD to your PC." This software is quite important to me and since DP is supposed to be "native" I can't find a reason why it shouldn't work. 2) I experience stuttering while dragging windows. The mouse feels a little bit sluggish as well. Please check with changing the Screen refresh rate to 60Hz by going to Display properties.
Check with updating the graphic driver.
Check with reinstalling Microsoft Office 2013 on your system.

I just bought my yoga 12 thinkpad with windows 10 and the mouse has just stopped working/disappears. i have tried messing with the drivers, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Point Device Driver from Synoptics multiple times. Its giving me a code 10 on the driver (I believe meaning it can't talk to the rest of the computer) and everytime I try to update the drivers nothing happens (i think because I just downloaded the driver off the website). I am a content creator, and I use this computer for the bulk of my encoding jobs. Sometimes, when I am rendering or encoding, or even just scripting. I have two problems i amd struggling to get support from Lenovo on..  1. When i connect my P40 Yoga to a 2nd Display and set my desktop to extended mode. When ever i right-click the 'context' menu that appears is not in the same location as where the stylus is. It appears to be offset based on the amount of total desktop space (becuase its extended) rather than just the actualy lenovo laptop screen. (which is the only screen thats compatible with the stylus). Any suggestions? 2. This one has only started happening recently. The Wacom service: Tablet Service for ISD Driver is constantly using 75% of my CPU and generally makes the device unusable. If i disable the service i am no longer able to use my stylus.. (which is the whole point for buying this laptop at $2000!). It continues to use 75% of my CPU no matter what i do (even when not using the stylus). It appears to use more and more memory over time as well.. Who should be fixing this Lenovo or Wacom?  ?

We have 20+ThinkPad S1 Yoga?s (20C0-A01TUS). We clone one original OOBE image to restore the other systems back to factory original once they return. The cloned systems fail to load the wireless driver after restart. I have never encountered this with other systems (including systems with the AC-7260 adapter running 8 or 8.1). This is unfortunately not always consistent. Event Viewer shows:NETwNb64 ? ?Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260: Could not allocate the resources necessary for the operation.?NETwNb64 ? ?Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260: The version number is incorrect for this driver.? ? I have used the Lenovo update utility to update the driver to 16.6 ? still does not work? I have removed all drivers and installed 16.6 driver from Intel's site. ? still does not work? I can get the system to recognize the wireless by Disabling and Re-enabling the device in Device Manager. Once I restart the unit the driver will not reload.? I have updated the BIOS on the test system to the most recent revision (1.08) ? still does not work? NOTE: I can consistently get the wireless device to work by going into the BIOS and switching OFF Secure Boot and changing the Startup to UEFI/Legacy Boot to Both (Legacy First). Hello all, I've been a member for many years but created a new id due to too much junkmails coming through.I just purchsed the new 2015 yoga thinkpda 12 with 500gb and the 16gb ssd m.2 for cache purpose.I did not want to spend the increased cost from lenovo for the 256gb ssd so I purchased an 500gb SSD evo850 for much cheaper.I am just curious what are the correct steps to migrate windows 8.1 from HDD to SSD?More specifically is, is there anything I need to migrate from the M.2 16Gb SSD?Do I just use samsungs migration software only from the HDD and leave the M.2 alone?Any insight before I being would be appreciated, thank you

Dear All Experts and Peers, I have seen in the Lenovo solutions center (Under "systems") that my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14, has an option to upgrade from 8gb or ram to 16gb of ram and I would like to do so. However, all personnels in shops selling Thinkpad Yoga 14 is telling me that:1. The ram is soldered. (Not True)2. The ram is not soldered but there is no stock for the 16gb ram. (Not True, Both Inteligent Memory, Paccom and I believe Crucial have the ram in stock, but I have to order them from overseas as Singapore does not have them yet.)3. The ram is not soldered but bios and hardware cannot handle. (I might buy that if the people I've talked to knew what they were talking about, I need the help of a  professional or a rep from IBM/Lenovo). Although I have ready the thread of other similar cases, the model number is different and my Yoga 14 does not have a Digitizer Pen as well. Hello, Due to some weird update issues, I had to run a fresh re-install of Windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 11e 20D9.  I have run the Lenovo system update, and manually downloaded every driver I can find for this machine on the Lenovo support site, but I still can't get some of the buttons on the laptop to work properly. Basically, the volume buttons (both on the FN row and on the side of the computer) all just mute/unmute, but will not adjust volume level.  The brightness controls do work, but the rest of the FN controls don't.  The function keys work fine. Does anyone have any experience with this?  If there is a specific driver that will work, please link me directly to the file. Thanks

Hi - I've read various posts about problems with Headsets but not yet found a solution!  I have purchased a new headset together with splitter to use the single 3.5mm jack port for both audio and recording.  I can get the audio to work and the headset shows in my "Playback" however my laptop will ONLY use the built in mic and will not detect the headset in "Recording".  Obviously this is not good for VOIP calls and I need to get the mic on my headset working by tomorrow morning!  I've done all the basics - resinstalled sound card, checked all devices are showing and disabled devices not in use.  I've also checked the microphone privacy settings and in Realtek Audio I can't see a headset in the microphone options there!  Can anyone help at all?  Thanks so much

I have recently purchased lenovo thinkpad x1 yoga from Germany. I have tried to install different versions of linux ubuntu in dual boot, but none of them seems to work. It boots from the bootable usb and gives the live ubuntu and install ubuntu options but when you enter then it displays a blank screen and nothing happens afterwards. I am facing another issue pretty consistently that the touch screen becomes unresponsive most of the times. When i use the pen it works fine but it does not works with my fingers. Looking forward to some solution as its pretty annoying experiencing such bugs in such an expensive machine. Thanks

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 10.Now my Yoga (20C0-S0AX00) still provides no sound via HDMI although all driver updates above all Conextant and Intel have been installed, as suggested here: https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/documents/ht104056The device manager shows no problems with audio devices, the Intel(R) Display-Audio appears both in controllers and and in-/output. Do you guys have any suggestions?Many thanks in advance

Have you also tried to check con "Control Panel - Sound" ? On the "Playback" tab you can see all the "sound output" device, included the HDMI to see which one is working. You can also right click it and select "test". If the HDMI output sound does not show there, it may be a drivers issue.
 

 
I always try to keep the drivers updated against the Lenovo support site for my model. I try to update drivers on this order.
1) Use Windows Update
2) Use Lenovo System Update
3) Install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings
4) Sometimes this tools miss to install some updated drivers, so I also try the Support site.
 
I hope this can give you some hints.
