Dell Inspiron 3147 2in1. Wake from sleep with keyboard.

Question: Dell Inspiron 3147 2in1. Wake from sleep with keyboard.

Hi Guys,
I have just purchased an Dell Inspiron 3147 2in1, overall I really like my new laptop/tablet but....
A couple of things are bugging me. I would love it if someone who also owns this laptop could confirm a few things for me.
1. Can you wake your laptop from sleep by hitting any key on the keyboard, not only by pressing the power button. Every laptop that I have ever used can wake via keyboard although my new laptop cannot. It seems strange that a new laptop would not have this feature.
2. Is anyone else having ghost touches on their touch screen that closes programs, deletes stuff and causes chaos. I have found that this issue starts after closing the laptop then re-opening it. If you sleep the computer then wake it, this fixes the problem.
3. Also I'm having problems with the USB ports on the left side of the laptop. Some devices get recognized and some don't. My IPhone 4 goes nuts when plugged into the one USB 3.0 port, it constantly turns on and off every half a second. All devices work in the one USB port on the right side.
Anyways, any input would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Ben,
I would suggest you to update the BIOS and Video card driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and Video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it.

Also, please follow the steps mentioned below to recalibrate the system to check if it fixes the issue.
Press Windows key on the keyboard and start typing Calibrate.
Then tap or click Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input to open PC Settings.
Check that the monitor shown in the Display field matches the screen you want to calibrate.
Tap or click Calibrate, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Please let me know if this helps.

Last few days, when i am trying to wake my laptop from sleep, nothing is working. Keyboard, touchpad and not even the power button helps to wake up. I have to hold the power button and turn it off, then, when laptop is starting again a message pops out, that i have to restart computer and after restart it works.
It is really annoying since i can´t leave for long, because then i need to restart again.

About three months ago, my wife noticed the laptop was crashing when she'd wake it up.  The error was "Bad Pool Header."   It would reboot and everything worked fine.  I couldn't find anything online about it and I was tired of being haunted with the Windows 10 upgrade.  So I went ahead and upgraded the laptop to Windows 10 hoping the issue would resolve itself.    It didn't.  I received the same error.
Today I took some time and researched the error some more and tried to contact Dell Support.   That didn't go so well.   Since I bought a refurbished unit from Amazon, the laptop is still registered to someone else.  They won't talk to me until the warranty information is updated.  (That's a separate battle I'm fighting with Amazon.)
Anyways, I'd love to restore the laptop to the original settings but the laptop doesn't have a DVD drive nor does it have a restore partition.  There is also no recovery image saved on the drive.   So, I'm stuck unless there is a way to find out what is causing the bluescreening.
When I was troubleshooting today, I had the system checked and there was one update that installed for the chipset.   After the chipset update was installed, the issue remained, but the error changed.  "System Service Exception"    The laptop reboots and it returns to normal.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3147 Crashing when waking up from sleep

Hi Dave,
Update the BIOS -
And reinstall the chipset drivers manually from the same site above.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. Also, run an extended / thorough test on the memory and HDD.
Run a stress test on the system -
The system is compatible to work with Win10. If you are keen to restore the system to W8.1 - then see this link -
If you have the invoice of the purchase, which states the service tag of the system - not a paypal receipt, then you could transfer the warranty ownership online here -
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My key board keys on the left side have stopped working.  I have updated the bios and an external keyboard works fine. I have tried everything. tapping on the keys with some force sometimes gets them to work.  I notice that I'm not the only one having this problem.  This started about 2 days after my warranty ended, how convenient

Every time when the laptop goes to sleep mode by itself and I turn it on again, the touch screen will be partly unresponsive, to be more specific, it is the upper part of the screen. The problem is only at the screen, mouse and touchpad are working fine. Now I can solve the problem by pressing power button to let it sleep and press again to turn it on, but I don't want to do this everyday.
Anyone have answer to this? Please!! I just got it a few days ago!
Thank you.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3147 11.6" - Touch screen 'partly' not working after auto sleep

Hey, guys, I had the partially non-responsible touch screen (top right part) + 100% CPU. What I ended up doing was a clean install of Windows 10 and NOT installing the Dell Quickset. I repeat, DO NOT install Quickset. Hardware works fine without it and I stopped getting 100% CPU after idle and touch screen works normally. The only drawback is that I get an unrecognized component (ACPI\SMO8810\1), which I suspect has to do with keyboard locking in tablet mode. This isn't the 100% full solution, but I get the impression that the Dell power plan is not coded correctly. Any questions you guys might have, let me know!

I have 3 issues with my Dell 3147 laptop.
The first one has to do with the keyboard and touchpad. For no apparent reason, the touchpad will disable and re-enable itself and in the process the physical keyboard will completely disable and won't enable again unless I restart the laptop
Second issue has to do with the sleep mode. Whenever I put the laptop on sleep mode I cannot go back to my session and have to press the power button for several seconds until the laptop resets/restarts completely.
Third issue has to do with the screen. It will flip upside-down without me doing anything, which means that I need to manually revert it using the keyboard shortcut everytime.
Appreciate any help.
My laptop is still under warranty, only bought it 10 months ago.

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 11 3147. After updating to windows 10 and BIOS afterwards i discovered a problem. When system goes to sleep - no matter if its done by inactivity, closing the device or manually it won't wake up. When i press the power button pc phisicaly turns of (i can hear it does) but the screen is blank and the only way to get it working at this point is hard off by holding the power button and turning it on again. I tried many things - reinstalling drivers (by windows update and from dell support), turning off hybrid sleep, w10 quick launch,  uninstalling some software etc.  Nothing worked. My guess is the new BIOS is broken. Does anyone have any ideas about this problem or any update dates? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, needing some help here.
I have a Dell Inspiron 3650 purchased in July of 2016.  I have been having problems with the display not waking from sleep.  The hardware light on the monitor is on and the light on my wireless mouse comes on temporarily when I try to wake but the display won't turn on.  The only way for me to get the computer back working is to shut down the computer using the hardware power button and reboot.  I've done some basic troubleshooting including running the Dell Diagnostic Tests and setting the power settings to NEVER sleep (see screenshot).  However this still keeps happening.  Any thoughts?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3650 Won't Wake from Sleep?

Have you tried using a brief push of the power button when a mouse move or key press doesn't work? Windows 10 has hybrid sleep and hibernation that requires a short press of the power button to wake the computer.

I have Dell Inspiron N5110 which cannot shut down neither in Windows 7 nor in Ubuntu Linux. I specifically booted Ubuntu Live from the CD to eliminate the possibility that  the problem is in the Windows 7. Shutdown in Ubuntu does not work either. This proves that the reason in not a BACKGROUND application in Windows that remains hanging and does not allow the laptop to shut down.
The laptop cannot wake up after Sleep or Hibernate either.
I have tried every solution that you advised to all the other people in the forum that have the same issue.
1. The laptop cannot shut down in Safe Mode either.
2. It cannot shut down even after Clean Boot Mode - all non-MS services disabled and all Startups disabled.
3. I tried changing the Advanced Power Options of "Allow Hybrid Sleep" - both ON for "On AC Power" and "Running on battery" - no change.
4. I tried installing the latest video drivers for Nvidia. This did not help either.
5. Running only on battery does not change anything - still cannot shutdown.
6. Running only on AC adapter without battery - still cannot shutdown.
7. I tried removing the AC adapter and battery and holding the POWER button for 30 seconds to RESET the laptop - did not work.
ATTENTION: I've been reading your forums all day and saw at least 10-15 reports of the same problem and not a single fixed case.

Remove the keyboard and palm rest (guide from dell shows you how) and you should see a small coin cell battery. Remove it for at least 10 seconds, then put it back in. Enter BIOS and make sure there isn't anything weird that was changed. It should work properly now. I have had this working in Ubuntu 12.04 for the last few days, with no problems.

I recently purchased 3 Dell Inspiron 3650 desktops running Windows 7 Pro for work.
I have having issues where the desktop won't wake up after going into sleep mode.  No input from mouse or keyboard wakes it.  Pushing power button quickly/lightly on chassis just causes the computer to reset/crash.
I have looked at BIOS settings, and there is no "USB Wake support" option listed under power options.
Clicking in "device manager> power options > USB settings> USB selective suspend setting" and changing from enable to disable doesn't help either.

So I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 that has all the latest drivers with BIOS A11 (Win 7 Ultimate x64)...  I have all the power settings configured for correctly for sleep (no hybernate), however no matter what I try, I can't get the laptop to wake when the lid is closed via USB keyboard.
I'm using Logitech's Wave MK560 combo (unifying receiver) - both the keyboard/mouse have the wake option enabled in their hardware settings.  I also have wake from USB enabled in the BIOS.
The interesting thing is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can make it sleep/wake it from the Logitech devices.  With the lid closed, I can only make it sleep - the only way to wake it up is to open the lid and press the power button.
Anyone know of a fix to this?
Cliffs Notes:
Lid Open : CAN sleep/wake from USB Keyboard/Mouse
Lid Closed : Can ONLY sleep - won't wake unless I open Lid&press power button

Answer:Inspiron 17R SE 7720 won't wake from sleep when lid is closed via usb keyboard/mouse

It appears that a new BIOS A13 was released on the 18th March, all it says in the "fixes" section is "maintain release". Will download it now and see if it has fixed the wake on USB issue.

After upgrading to Win8.1, windows update try to update the Inter HD Graphics driver preinstalled into dell systems. This video driver is *CRUCIAL* for suspend/Hibernate/LidClose mode to operate properly.
This is the signature of the update Win8.1 suggest to apply:
[x] - Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 - Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
If you do, this will conflict with AMD graphic adapter and result into nasty problems, including:
* Unable to restore from black screen if you close lid then reopen* Unable to properly hibernate* Unable to restore from LCD monitor switchoff for powersave
IF you see DELL site support, you can notice that the LATEST Intel HD video available is OLDER than the liveupdate installed (from microsoft).
1. Remove/Uninstall all the AMD stuffs2. Reboot3. Remove the Intel HD Video driver and reinstall the older driver from DELL site4. Reboot (disconnect lan/network... *IMPORTANT*)5. Disable automatic LiveUpdate6. Reattach LAN/network7. Look for available update package, hide "Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1 xxxx"
You want now, after a final reboot, to say NO, NO, THANKS, to LiveUpdate of Intel Video Driver.

I am using Dell Inspiron 13 series 5000 laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed and I have the following problem.  I have an external monitor connected via VGA cable, VGA to HDMI adapter and to HDMI port on laptop. When I put the computer to sleep, disconnect the VGA - HDMI adapter and then connect it back, it is unable to wake the computer up from sleep. The only solution is to disassemble the back cover and unplug and plug again the battery (it is quite annoying, since it is not possible to unplug the battery without disassembling the back cover). The problem persisted if I was testing it with only the adapter (without monitor VGA cable plugged into it). Therefore my question is: Is it hardware or software problem? If it is hardware, which component should be replaced? Battery, motherboard, HDMI connector or something else? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 13 does not wake up from sleep after plug in HDMI-VGA connector

Did you try lifting the laptop lid so the operating system now appears on the laptop, then disconnect the HDMI to VGA converter from the laptop, then put the laptop to sleep?

Since installing a Dell update on about May 2 my laptop turns off when it should sleep. This happens every time the top is closed or the machine is idle for a while. Anything I'm working on is lost.
The power and sleep buttons and lid settings are all set to sleep.  Hybrid sleep is turned off.
I have tried to do a system restore but get a message saying the disc is corrupt and to run chkdsk. Chkdsk says there is nothing wrong with the disc.
I'm running an Inspiron 3147 with Windows 8.1
What's my next step please?

Answer:Inspiron 3147 turns off when it should sleep.

In regards to the system restore, does this happen with respect to one point only or any point that you try?
Did you try chkdsk or chkdsk /r? Also, restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
For the sleep issue,
Does it occur with both auto and manual sleep?
Update the BIOS from - and reinstall the chipset drivers from the same site.
If the issue is not resolved, then download the video driver from - or from the support site above. Uninstall the existing video driver from device manager - restart the system and check if the sleep works fine in both auto and manual sleep mode.
Create a new local admin account and check if the sleep works fine -

I have to push the power button and sometimes this will not wake it. Drivers and software are all up to date. Allow mouse to wake computer is checked in options. After spending 20 minutes on the phone waiting for tech service and being disconnected twice, I have almost given up. Thank you to anyone who might have a fix for this issue.

I just purchased a refurbished Inspiron 3147. The computer does not wake from sleep mode. Instead, there is a blip of power and then the system shuts off completely. Some things I have determined through testing and observation:
- The power does come on momentarily. This is confirmed by the flicker of light in the power indicator and the brief charge indicator for a USB connected phone.
- The hard drive does not Shut Down. It just goes dead. I confirmed this by testing a handful of software items, including Open Office, Evernote and Chrome. All had recovery dialogue on restart, though there was no Windows shutdown error dialogue.
- This doesn't matter how sleep mode is initiated. All of my Power Management options are set to Sleep Mode. It happens when I initiate it by closing the laptop lid. It happens when I initiate it through the start menu or charm bar. It happens when I initiate it via the login screen.
There is another issue which may or may not be related and that is the touchpad. I'm given to understand that the touchpad is a real issue with this particular model and I intend to address it in a separate post. For the purposes of this post, I will just say that it will not initiate until I manually go in and disable/reenable the trackpad through the control panel. The trackpad settings are inaccessible on startup through the system tray even though the icon is there and clickable. It just won't load. Sometimes it takes several attempts to load it thr... I had numerous problems with this laptop (this one being the major one: which make it pretty much unusable. While trying to somehow solve my problems, I desperately installed the "Dell Update Application". It did not suggest me to update the touchscreen which was the source of my problems, but to update BIOS. This was a huge mistake, because I lost the entire functionality of the sleep mode button. It was pretty much unfunctional untill then, but it still was the only button that could wake up laptop from sleep.
From now on, it is impossible to make the laptop go to sleep with a button press and when it does go to sleep automatically, I cannot wake it up. I can only hold the sleep/power button, lose all my data by making a hard reboot.
After the BIOS update, Windows won’t recognise the sleep/power button at all under "Power Settings". It won’t make laptop go to sleep, hybernate

Hello, I have a brand new Inspiron 15 7559 that is having some issues. First and foremost the keyboard is useless after the computer goes to sleep. This just started a few days ago, about a month after receiving it. The screen comes back on after opening the lid and the touch pad works fine. But no buttons on the keyboard produce any response. The keyboard becomes backlit like normal but does not produce anything on the screen when I try to put in my password/pin. I can click on the Ease of Access button and get the on screen keyboard to appear. This does work and allows me to input my pin. But that's no way for my laptop to run. And a laptop without a keyboard is pretty useless. My second problem is that my computer no longer sees my Nvidia dedicated graphics card. I only mention this here because I am not sure that the 2 issues are unrelated. I noticed a few days ago that the Nvidia icon was not in my system tray ( I think that's what it's called) like it normally is. So I opened it manually and it told me that it could not find a driver for this computer. That is odd because just the previous day I had been looking in the program and all was fine. So I followed the link to get a driver. I followed all the instructions on the Nvidia site and downloaded the driver for the card my computer came with. But when installing it a window popped up saying that no hardware could be found on my computer for that driver. Not sure why it doesn't see it.

I am not happy with this product. I have submitted a second trouble ticket today. The first was for a hard drive issue and the second is probably a motherboard as the customer support alluded to. Less than 6 months and now twice I am going to be without my laptop for an extended period of time. The first time was a for a week. For the second issue, I will have to send my laptop into the service center and even though they said they would expedite it, it will probably take at least two weeks for just shipping back and forth.
I was thinking of getting something similar for my daughter, but after my experience with how inconsistent the laptop has been and how fixing the current laptop I have will take awhile, I can't see buying another Dell laptop. I was thinking of starting on my Master's next year, but obviously I may have to think about purchasing a second laptop to ensure that I have a trustworthy device to use for my school work.
Honestly, right now, I feel that with every new Facebook post that Dell has about new products, I would like to tell my story on each and every post to ensure everyone thinks twice about buying a Dell computer. Just looking through the posts in the forums, it doesn't seem like many people are getting the support that they should be getting for spending a good chunk of money on these computers. The last time I had this much trouble with a computer was with E-Machine and their service was terrible. Is Dell going the way of E-M... Read more

I have a XPS 3000 11 2 in 1 for about 2 months. Upgraded it to W10 on my 1st week.
I am facing some temporary fails on ALL KEYS ON THE LEFT SIDE of the keyboard: 1qaz, ` tab capslock, shift, fn an ctrl. Windows key also. From keys 2wsx on, including these, everything works fine.
So, not sure if it is a HW or a SW problem. It seems SW... Fail is temporary, and sometimes related to a boot session. I mean, it starts at windows lock screen... after insisting for a while, I can type the affected letter and after I sign in, it seems the keys and the hole left side come back to life, although it sometimes fail even when logged. Now I am typing normally with no fails.

Answer:DELL Inspiron 11 3147 2 in 1 Upgrades

Good morning,
I have updated the 11 3147 to Windows 8.1, all updates prompted for as of 8/21/2015. Windows 10 has not been an option as of yet. I have reregistered thru the Window icon that appeared on the right bottom notification bar. I have not added any additional software other than Bitdefender Free Anti Virus and CCleaner. I deleted McAfee Livesafe, using the McAfee removal software before I cloned the Samsung SSD.
Notes on the  hardware upgrades:
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB; Info from Samsung Magician software. The used space shows 40GB (Windows 8.1) free space 191GB. Total capacity as new storage disk 232.89GB. The SSD is set for Maximum Performance. The performance testing shows Sequential Read 283MB/s, Sequential Write 271MB/s, Random Read 27292IOPS and Random Write 18419IOPS.
The Samsung SSD 850 EVO has the ability to preform better. The Dell system does not support a SATA 6 GB/s (SATA3) port. The Samsung says the SSD is connected to a SATA 3 GB/s (SATA2) port. I had ran across this info on the net. The Samsung software seems to conform that.
At this point I accept the results. I don't game or run demanding software that the higher read/write scores would be beneficial to me. The benefit of using an SSD vs HDD. The SSD has no moving parts that I have to worry about as I hold or move the 11 3147. The start, opening closing of the software/app is faster than the 5400rpm HDD that came with the 11 3147.

Please only answer this specific question:
Had anyone been able to install any flavor of Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 11 3147 laptop?
If so, please tell me how you did it.
If you don't have specific info regarding this exact machine, please don't answer.
I've exhaustively researched how to do it and have not had success with anything I've tried. I'm pretty sure it is impossible, so at this point I'm only seeking absolute evidence to the contrary.

When I try to do it I get the BSOD stop message stating that my machine's BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant.

While I appreciate that helpful people will want to jump in and suggest possible BIOS settings and other solutions based on their experience with other machines, I honestly only want to know if anyone has successfully installed it on this machine.

I have a new laptop with a set up as such,
- lid closed, laptop on connected to external mouse and KB and large screen. This is for home working which I main use it for. Then disconnect and use as portable laptop when travelling.
I want to use the mouse or keyboard click to wake it up. All other LTs I have had do this.
There's a similar question but on a another series machine.
The obvious power mgt features do not seem to offer this.

Hey Guys,
I have a question, so when my laptop is in tablet mode, and I am trying take notes on OneNote, my palm/wrist keeps touching the screen so i can't write quickly. It always comes out sloppy and with dots all over the page from when my wrist touches the screen.
I tried the active stylus, which didn't even work with the laptop. Is there another solution to this. This really is annoying me as I can't use it for it's intended purpose which was for handwritten notes.

I own a dell inspiron 11 3147 laptop. I've only had it for almost 2 years. My current problem now is that certain keys in my laptop keyboard won't work. So now, I mostly use my touch keyboard if I have to work on papers. They keys that aren't working are the ff: 4, 5, r, t, f, g, v,  and b. As you can see it seems to be that the whole two columns that these keys belong to are not functioning. I've updated my drivers and I recently installed the latest Windows 10 update. I installed it last July 9, 2016 so it's very recent. I thought that maybe after instaling the new updates, my keyboard will go back to normal but it still hasn't.
Also, sometimes I get very impatient so I tend to press down on the keys a bit too hard. And when I do press down on "R" and "T", my screen just goes to black and I have to restart my laptop. This should mean that it's a hardware problem, right? Or can it still be a software problem?

Please help! I've had this keyboard problem for months :(

I have recently bought a new Dell Inspiron 11 3147. Everything was fine for about an hour (created my MS Windows account, installed some apps, laptop was perfectly quiet), until I decided to play some music from YouTube. The sound was really cracking and from that point the laptop constantly makes quiet buzzing/cracking noise (it does not come from speakers!), just like HDD is reading data very fast or the fan was damaged. Sometimes music is played fine, and sometimes (i dont know what it depends on) sound is crackling even more.
Plus when the computer starts, the fan noise is quite buzzing too.
Please help, I don't know what could be the problem since it all started when I played music, I dont know what makes music crackle too! I tried to reinstall sound drivers but I guess it's not the driver, since the buzz is there even when Windows is not loaded.

Today the Wi Fi has stopped working on my Inspiron 3147 2-in-1.  Internet works fine right now on the desktop and laptop we have in the house so I know the wireless router works o k  but it stopped working on Inspiron 3147.  I have tried 'function and PRNT SCR keys' because there is no switch on that computer to turn wireless on or off and looks like it is set for on, I checked settings and 'Airplane mode is off' '. I have used  my other computers today looking at the on-line manuals and quick start guide info for the Inspiron 3147 but these do not help me. I use Windows 8 and did not upgrade to Windows 10 yet on the Inspiron 3147.  What do you think is wrong ?  Please help me.  It is now about 1:00 AM our time so I am falling asleep trying to fix this.

I'm having many issues with my touchpad/trackpad.
- Touchpad loses its function (scrolling, gestures) after using for a while or after sleep/standby mode.
- Touchpad keeps freezing, the pointer constantly stops moving for a short period, like 5 seconds (but I can still do right click) only when I use touchpad. I can still use external mouse normally.
Hope someone can help.

Does anyone's 3147 (N3530) get hot? I use it while sitting on my lap and though at first the heat didn't bother me, but now its seems bothersome. I upgraded the machine to Crucial Ballistix 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800), 1.35v Laptop Memory and a 250 EVO SSD. I check the temps with HWMonitor and the hottest I've seen anything get to is 67 degrees Celsius. Everything is normally in the high 50s.Has anyone done a thermal re paste? I do have some IC Diamond laying around. Not sure if it would make a difference.
Video stream shuttering happens quite a bit. Any suggestions?
And does anyone else have issues with getting the bottom cover flush when putting back on (by the power button)? The corner seems to protrude a little.

Thank in advance! I tried to get all my questions in one post.

After installation of latest BIOS A09 version for Dell Inspiron 3147 I got some problems with boot.

Pause about 10-15 seconds during boot after Dell logo.
Start (logon) screen not appear after boot and I see black screen till I do not touch screen.
PC does not start from Sleep mode, while Hibernation mode works,

No matter of Windows 8.1 or 10, drives etc. I have tried different installation of drives, settings and Windows 8.1/10.
Downgrade to old version of BIOS A07 fixed all above mentioned problems. Why Dell has provide BIOS that made user experience awful? For those who have similar problems after installation of BIOS A09 version - you can download old version of BIOS from Dell downloads page

Dell Inspiron 3000 11" (3147) - 5 beeps 4 times on boot, and when it boots, there is no WIFI (network card also not listed in device manager).

All I could find on that beep code is that "5 beeps means replace CMOS battery".
But it's not "5 beeps", its "5 beeps 4 times", and my CMOS battery is fine at 3+ volts. I replaced it just in case, but it still did not help any, as expected. Any ideas?

I got a notification to update my BIOS from Dell and ran the Windows installer, hoping it would help with screen issues I've been having. Since then the system is unusable. I'm running Windows 10, setup says BIOS is version A11.
It is stuck in an "automatic repair" loop and I receive a "ACPI BIOS ERROR"
I've tried:
-booting to a USB with the BIOS file to try and flash it from there, but can't access the drive via F12
-booting Legacy as well as UEFI
-removing CMOS and laptop battery

Hello. I'm looking at this laptop:

I would like to know if it has wake on LAN and wake on RTC or not.

Answer:Solved: Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series - Wake on LAN & Wake on RTC?

Since I did not get an answer here, I went ahead and ordered the machine anyway, and took a chance. It does NOT have either feature in it.

It passed my other tests, so I'm keeping it and the next computer I get will probably have both of those features, but for this one, I guess I'll live without, since the network isn't finished to the point where I could actually use it anyway yet.

We have a Dell Inspiron 11-3147 laptop running Windows 10.  For the last few weeks, it does not restart after going to sleep. We managed to get it going a few times by restarting in Safe Mode.
We called Dell support, and the technician suggested we install the A11 BIOS, since we were on the A10 version.  We did, and the problem persisted, Restart with Safe Mode did not help anymore.   We are able to start it only by doing a System Restore to the oldest Windows 10 restore point available. What is different when the laptop restarts after a system restore rather than from a normal start-up or a restart after going to sleep?
When the laptop is up, it runs without problems, which eliminates both hardware and Windows software as the cause of the problem. Which seems to point to the BIOS. The issue has been reported widely in Dell user forums since version A08, and it looks like we too are victims of Dell being unable to fix it.
We understand our laptop is out of warranty, but it is only two years old, and only Dell software is preventing it from working properly. We believe that Dell owes us a better solution than regressing to the A07 BIOS.
Are there any solutions that don't involve a hard reset or a complete windows re-install?  This laptop is now useless.  Why doesn't Dell acknowledge the problem?

Answer:Inspiron 11 won't wake up from sleep

This might not apply, but remember that Hibernation requires a brief press of the power button to wake the computer. If a key press doesn't wake the computer, try the power button. You can turn off Hibernation and Hybrid Sleep in Power Options, Additional Settings.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

This new Dell Inspiron 11 3147 just arrived today.
The AC Adapter is "plugged in" but the battery is "not charging."
I've looked all over for help for this, Dell Diagnostic has found no problem, and I've had trouble getting a hold of customer service. The most commonly suggested idea has been to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Complian Control Method Battery driver, which I have done.
The only thing I haven't messed with is the battery itself, which doesn't seem to be accessible without damaging the back, which is screwed on and secured well.
Any idea what's wrong?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 3147 Battery "Not Charging"

Update to my below post:
One day later, after the battery fully charged and all was well, I come back and it is back to the message "plugged in, not charging". I might see if reflashing the bios and rebooting will work again.
My original post on Dec 8, 2014:
I had this problem until this morning. In short, I updated the bios to Version A03,A03 (released Dec 2, 2014). Before that I did all the googling and messing about without success. Here's what to do:
1. Run "My Dell". You can access this by type Ctrl-Esc and then type in "My Dell" and clicking on the "My Dell" icon that comes up.
2. Click on the green "Drivers and Updates" panel. This should open a product support browser window.
3. Scroll down to the bottom beneath the section that says "These drivers match your selections" and click on the arrow next to "Bios"
4. Click on "Download file". Close all your other applications and run the file and follow the prompts. It will reboot for you at the end and the problem should be solved.
Good luck!
Version A03,A03

If this problem has been fixed then please link if possible, I've scoured countless forums and fixes for hours and I've had no luck. Apologies for the long post but I'll cover everything I've tried.
I received an Inspiron 15 5559 from Dell outlet yesterday for my fiance. I spent the afternoon cleaning it up and everything seemed to be fine (for details I installed AVG anti-virus and chrome plus removed a few bits of bloatware, nothing else)
I closed the lid to put it in sleep mode and went to pick her up from work. When we got back about an hour later she opened the machine and it stayed on a blank screen. Nothing on the keyboard, trackpad (or usb mouse) or even the power button would resume the machine. Eventually I had to hold down the power button to hard reset and there was the very obvious noise of hard drives and fans powering down so the laptop was on just not responding.
After checking the power settings and 'what happens when the lid closes' options in power management (set to sleep for all) I then turned to Google. Alot of posts recommended updating drivers which I did for everything (laptop was from outlet but I hope it was a recent install, weren't any updates to be done)
Following another post I went into the device manager and checked the various devices. I've looked at the keyboard and mouse sections as well as the human interface device sections. In all cases any devices that have a power management tab (I checked th... Read more

I have backup software that I'd like to run at night. I have computer set to sleep but it won't wake up without pushing the power button. Any ideas of how to get it to wake up? I've even tried task scheduler to wake computer at just a few moments before my backup program is to run. Nothing. Sound a sleep.

Answer:can't wake inspiron 5675 from sleep

Are you expecting the PC to wake up entirely on its own or be awakened by the backup software to run the backup? You may have to play with the Advanced settings in the active Windows Power plan and/or with Sleep States in BIOS setup.
If you're trying to wake it up by moving mouse or pressing key on keyboard and it won't wake up, reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup. Look for a "USB Wake Support" option (or similar name) and make sure it's Enabled. Be sure to save the change when exiting setup. NOTE: The manual for the I5675 doesn't show BIOS screens so I don't know if a USB Wake option exists in BIOS on this model

I just upgraded the APU and motherboard of my HTPC and i had to format. I used to be able to wake it using 2 keyboards but now it isn't working anymore.
In the device manager, the option "allow this device to wake computer from sleep" is enabled

In power management, USB selective suspend is turned off.
My motherboard is MSI a75m-e45.

In BIOS advanced settings, in the "wake up event setup" options, there is an option called "wake up event by:"
It is currently set to "OS"

The second option is "BIOS" which unlocks the following options:
"wake up from S3 with USB device"
"wake up from S3/S4/S5 by PS/2 keyboard"

Wether i enable or disable these options, the computer still won't wake from sleep using any USB devices...

It is also impossible to wake the computer sending a magic packet with the correct MAC address. I used to be able to do that before the recent hardware change.

I use Windows 8.1, installed on a SSD
All drivers latest version

Hello members,

I was wondering how to wake my laptop from sleep using my Bluetooth Logitech K810 keyboard.
Currently, through Device Manager, I do have "Allow this device to wake computer" checked through Power Management for both the keyboard itself and HID Keyboard Device.

What's odd is that I also have my Logitech MX Performance connected via 2.4Ghz and I have the "Allow this device to wake computer" unchecked, but only my mouse wakes my laptop from sleep.

So overall, I disabled my mouse from waking up my laptop and I have enabled my keyboard to wake my laptop from sleep. But the opposite occurs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How do I Wake PC from Sleep using Keyboard

You wouldn't be able to have the Bluetooth keyboard wake the system because Windows needs to be running in order for the keyboard to work. Windows is what makes the connection using Bluetooth. So, if it is in Sleep, it wouldn't be able to wake it. The mouse has its own connection to the mouse without the need of software so it is like it is physically connected and therefor it would be able to wake it.

I hope this makes sense

You won't find driver properties there.

Right click start and select device manager, then go to your KB and Mouse items, right click and select properties, but I've looked at mine for my laptop, and there is no power management tab there.

Are you sure it may not be asking you to check a BIOS setting for power management to allow KB/mse to wake it?

By default KB /mse should wake it with no further action.

List your laptop make, model, screenshot of device manager with what's listed for KB and mse.

Hey all,

I've just installed a sexy new 512GB SSD in my machine as the main drive, and as a result, had to reinstall Windows.

After getting everything set up, I put the PC to sleep for the first time, and when I went to wake it a while later by hitting the space bar (something that's always worked in the past with everything the same except the new HD) nothing happened. I tried a few other keys with the same result, along with the mouse.

So I went into the device manager and checked things; 'allow this device to wake the computer' is enabled for both the keyboard and mouse, but when I check the usb root hubs, they've all got the option greyed out.
I checked in the UEFI (BIOS) and I can't find any option to change it there (and, like I mentioned, the only difference is the new HD, the BIOS settings weren't touched), and I'm about ready to lose my mind.
If it helps, I'm running an ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z motherboard.

Up until recently, I have either put my laptop to sleep or let it go to sleep at the end of the day. The next morning I would hit either the mouse or keyboard (probably mostly the esc key just because it's sort of prominent at the corner). Some time recently, I haven't been able to wake up the machine this way. It won't wake up until I lift the cover.

As far as I know, I haven't changed any settings.

The settings for both keyboard and mouse have Allow this device to wake the computer checked in Device Manager.

I bought a Dell Inspiron about a month ago and it was working fine although sometimes it didn't wake up or was sluggish responding to pressing the 'on key' but last night it just wouldn't wake up at all. The screen is just black no sound of anything working but the LED is on to show power is getting through from the chord. .

I don't know what to do to wake it up. I have pressed the on switch for 15 seconds but nothing. I looked on line for a manual but I could only find service manuals. I am sure there is another 'reset press with a pin' but I don't want to anything like wipe everything out as even though it is only a month old I have stuff on I want to keep.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 and I cannot get WOL to work.

I have installed a new TP-LINK TG-3468 Network Card, which supports WOL.
Remote Wake Up is enabled in the BIOS, as are the usual required settings on the Network Card properties.

However whenever I hibernate, sleep, or shutdown my PC, the lights switch off on the Network Card so it is no longer receiving a connection.

Running Win8.1 - have also disabled Fast Startup

Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Wake on Lan not working - Dell Inspiron 530

The Windows 8 drivers from tp-link may help, I can't seem to find any Windows 8.1 specific drivers from tp-link.

TG-3468 - Welcome to TP-LINK

Be sure and enable the WOL/magic packet settings via the power management tab.

Does Wake On Lan work in Dell Inspiron 7720 (didn't find this option in bios), or is there any other way to turn laptop on with its lid closed?

Answer:Wake on Lan in Dell Inspiron 7720

 Hi Witosso,
I would like to inform you that it won't wake up on LAN if system is put into hibernate or shutdown as Network card is not getting power at those modes.
So it would only work under sleep mode where network card is still getting some power.
I hope I was able to answer your query today.

Most of the time it works fine. But once in a while nothing seems to wake up the computer. I've tired using the mouse, keyboard, turning off the monitor, opening the CD drive, and plugging in new USB peripherals. The monitor is on and reports no signal from the computer so it goes into power save.
There are no changes to the hardware or software between the times that it wakes up normally and times that it does not. This problem is infrequent and I do not know how to reproduce it. In order to use my computer again I have to hold down the power button on the cpu to get the computer to restart.
I've found another thread that indicates this is a long-standing problem with Dell computers and monitors.
Optiplex 3040, Windows 10, driver is Generic PNP monitor, Monitor is 2408WFPb, connected with HDMI
It seems like the problem is with the computer because the monitor has power and buttons on the monitor respond normally. Also nothing seems to wake up the computer. But I have had this  problem with this same monitor and an earlier Dell computer -- Optiplex 755.

I've had my Y40 for about 2 weeks and it is unable to wake from sleep using any keyboard keys or the touchpad. I can wake it by touching the power button, but if I forget and hit the keyboard or the touchpad first, the power button will not work either. Then my only option for getting the computer back on is by holding the power button down for several seconds and restarting the computer.  Any ideas for how to fix this?

Hi, My Z50 wakes up from the keyboard and mouse (and touchpad), which is something i dont want. In addition, is it possible to not have power to the USB ports during sleep mode as I run a fan by USB? I have already tried the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" but no luck, any clues? Thanks

I use a monitor, USB wireless mouse and a USB wired keyboard with my NB100.

My keyboard has a power button and it's set up to put the computer into sleep mode when pressed, which works fine. My problem is that the only way I can wake the computer is to press a key on the NB100's built-in keyboard, pressing anything on my USB keyboard does nothing.

I've gone into device manager and unchecked 'allow computer to turn off this device to save power' and also enabled everything in the BIOS but it still wont work.

I'd really like to get this sorted out as I have the NB100 tucked away out of sight and it's a bit of a pain to have to dig it out, open the lid and press the space bar every time I want to wake the computer :-(

Any ideas anyone?

I am not sure if this is the right board to post this question in, but I am having the same issue with two HP Pavilion 13-a113cl laptops that are running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). The issue has to do with waking the machines from sleep using the keyboard or mouse pad. I am not having any issues with them waking from sleep using the power button or when I open or close them. I checked the BIOS and the power settings aren't there. (BIOS version F.32)I have the boxes checked to allow the devices to wake the computer in the power management section without any success.I have changed the Intel MEI driver to 9.5 instead of 11 that is typically installed  without any success. I am not sure if this is an issue with the BIOS and Windows 10 or something driver related. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm using XP SP2 and I can't seem to wake it from sleep using a USB keyboard or mouse...I tried to go into Device manager and no "Allow to wake" option exist or applicable...I also went into BIOS and couldn't find anything that seem related... I use my thinkpad at home with a monitor and the lid closed most of the time but I want to set the "closing lid" power option to sleep in case I use it I thought I would just output the screen to an monitor and close the lid and wake from USB (I can't think of any other way to virtually dock it..)... Any idea?

I don't think this option is available for USB keyboards, but I'm not completely sure. Maybe someone else will have a better idea about if this is possible.

I bought a new Acer E5-571-5552 recently, it came with Windows 8.1 64bit. One of the ways I use my laptop often is in "docked mode", basically connect it to external monitor via HDMI, and external USB mouse & keyboard. I set the windows power options for "close lid" to do nothing, then it works fine like a desktop. This works fine with all other laptops I've used in the past (Lenovo, HP, Toshiba...etc). But this new Acer has trouble waking from sleep, the USB keyboard & mouse only light up, but doesn't wake up the fan/drive/monitor. I have to open the lid and press a key on the laptop (USB keyboard/mouse still doesn't). I've opened case 3601882U and chatted with 2 agents, one had me update to latest BIOS 1.11 which didn't resolve it. The other tried to insist it was a limited feature, that the Acers had to have lid open to wake up the computer from sleep. I think this is a broken feature. Does anyone know if this is true for all Acers, or just this windows 8.1 model?

Hello, I'm the owner of an EliteBook 8560p running under Windows 7 Professional 64 bits Edition. I started the installation from scratch with a driver-empty Windows. I've downloaded the drivers separately on the HP Support Website. Everything is running fine but when I put my computer to sleep (normal stand-by mode) I am unable to wake it up from the keyboard keys or trackpad buttons. The only way I can wake it up is by pressing the Power Button. Then it wakes up normally and I go back to the Windows 7 login screen. Is it possible to wake up this computer by pressing a key instead of the power button ? I don't want to press it too often. For example on my old Acer Aspire 5315, pressing a key wakes up the computer instantly. Also, I have no "Allow this device to wake up computer" option in my Device Manager.I can't find this option in the BIOS neither. Can you wake your HP Notebook computer by pressing the keyboard ? Is there a way to do that on EliteBooks ? Thanks and sorry for my mistakes, English is not my mother language.

Answer:Keyboard doesn't wake up computer from sleep

If you have an external display, it will stop the computer from waking. Disconnect display port cable and try again. Also, check your drivers so that Power Mgmt. allows mouse or keyboard to wake system. I have found these issues effect my HP 8460P as well as HP 2540P. Also, make sure that the BIOS allows USB to wake system.

Have you checked in the Bios that Power Management is listed as User Defined?Hibernate means that all current data and settings are saved when you go into the mode; Standby is merely as it states.

This system is a upgrade from a x201. My x201 would wake when moving the mouse or pressing a key on the external keyboard. My X220 is setup the same way in a dock with an external keyboard and mouse. However on this one I have to press the power button to wake it up. I have checked device manage and the power management settings are set to allow this device to wake the computer. But I have to press the power button. A call to Lenovo support did not help. He told me that the hardware was fine and it was a windows configuration issue and he did not support windows I should call Microsoft. After arguing with him because Lenovo sold me windows he escalated thee ticket for me but does anyone know the answer for this. I am sure it is just a setting somewhere and it not a big issue. But it is one I want to fix. Thanks

For the last 3 weeks both mine and my wife's monitors will not wake on moving the mouse or touching the keyboard.  I have checked and both PC's have wake on mouse/keyboard ticked.   I seem to remember that around that time we received Dell updates of some sort and it was from then on that we are having this problem.  I have checked and we have the latest drivers etc   When we move the mouse or touch the keyboard the hard drive and cpu start up but there is no response from either monitor, the only thing left to do is push the power button till it powers off.  On restart the monitor works fine.
If the screen has gone to sleep but not the pc then the monitor will come back on when either the mouse or keyboard is touched.

I have a dell xps 15 l502x and since two days ago it wouldn't wake up from sleep. I can hear the fan kicks in as i try to wake it up but then screen stays blank. Only way to get the laptop working again is to hold the power button until it force shutdown and restarting it.

The sleep function was working perfectly from start to since 2 days ago. It happened after I updated a bunch of drivers with using driver booster software.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Dell xps 15 L502x refuses to wake after sleep

The driver affecting sleep most is Display so you might be able to roll it back in Device Manager to get sleep to work again. Otherwise I'd uninstall it along with the software to see what driver Windows 7 wants.

Otherwise there are other fixes here for Sleep Problems.

Why use outdated XP-era driver finder software on a driver-complete OS? You may need to System Restore before this blunder.

Otherwise consider doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 paying close attention to the steps about how drivers are handled in Win7 which are so important they are in red. If still running the Factory Install then that is the worst install of Win7 one can have - you won't even experience native Win7 performance until you Clean Reinstall or at least Clean Up Factory Bloatware

Win7 delivers drivers via Important and Optional Windows Updates, after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3). Always install all Updates to get the latest drivers as well as Security and Performance patches that are critical to the OS and your hardware.

The Issue

All (7) of the Dell Precision T5600s in a computer lab do not wake up after going to sleep.

Background Info

I work in the ITS department for an educational institution that has some T5600s in use in the Math/Computer Science department labs. We upgraded to Windows 10 last summer and later discovered that they do not wake up from sleep. At this point the user performs a hard reset to restart the machine. Due to numerous hard resets some hard drives were failing, prompting the call to ITS, etc. etc. Because these machines are all identical, all are experiencing these issues, so this is not an isolated incident.

I have a Dell Dimension E310 running Windows 7. I upgraded to Win7 about 5 months ago and then added a video card about 2 months ago. About the time I added the video card (NVIDIA GForce 8400 GS), my Dell stopped coming out of sleep mode. I have to hard power down and then I can restart. Only recently I've noticed that even when I shut down and let the machine sit for a few hours, it behaves the same when I push the power button as it does when I try to bring it out of sleep. Here is what happens in both cases (trying to come out of sleep or trying to start after shut down):

Power comes on to the computer (the fan starts, the lights on the box come on), however I don't hear the disk drive spin and the monitor doesn't wake up. If I hard power down and then re-power on, everything works just fine.

I have NOT upgraded my power supply and I guess the video card may be drawing more power. Could this be it? Could there be a capacitor that needs to have some charge to get things started and that is why it works on the second start, but not the first start? Or is this a bad hypothesis? Any suggestions out there?

Answer:Dell won't wake from sleep - takes 2x to boot

I've now installed a higher wattage power supply (430 W to replace the old 230 W) which should be more than enough. Unfortunately, symptoms are the same: If the machine is off for a few hours, it requires two tries to startup. Any thoughts or suggestions?

All of a sudden, my 64-bit Win 10 Pro (v 1511) desktop will no longer wake up from sleep via my USB keyboard or mouse. Reboot and IMMEDIATELY press F2 to open BIOS setup.
Look for an option "USB Wake" (or similar) and make sure it's ENabled. Be sure to save the change before exiting setup.
If that doesn't solve the problem (or USB Wake isn't listed in BIOS...

Open Device Manager and expand list under USB
Double-click a USB root hub and click its Power Management tab
Uncheck box "Allow PC to turn off..."
Repeat for all USB root hubs

Now expand list under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager

Uncheck that same box for any HID entry with a Power Management tab.

Then go to the Windows Power options page

Disable USB Selective Suspend
Save the change to power plan if prompted

A newly-built Win 7 system operated normally, including wake from sleep by keyboard and mouse, until a second USB3 Anker hub was connected. The first Anker hub worked normally. The system keyboard and wireless mouse are plugged into the first Anker USB3 hub. After connecting the second, identical, Anker hub the system turned off after time-out (no blinking green power light) instead of entering Sleep and could be started only by the Power button, causing Win7 to offer the black screen Start Normally, which it always did. Disconnecting the second Anker USB3 hub corrected this problem. This series of events repeats; it is a hard failure. I then connected the same second Anker USB3 hub while the system was running and Win7 reported that "iusb3mon has stopped working." The second Anker hub was unplugged and the system rebooted; Task Manager reports iusb3mon task is running. Clearly, the second Anker hub is preventing entry into normal Sleep mode. But, after all this, neither the keyboard nor the mouse will wake the computer from Sleep; the Power button does wake the system. "devicequery wake_armed" reports both the HID-compliant mouse and the MS keyboard are set to wake the system, though neither does.

I know of no reason one cannot have two identical USB3 hubs connected concurrently. Yet, the second Anker hub has surely introduced some problems; perhaps it is defective, though it does function with a thumb drive plugged into it for test. I've cold booted nu... Read more

Is this a powered hub? It may be taxing your PSU or unable to produce power required on its own.

Try System Restore to before this all was done to see if you get the sleep timeouts restored. Are you using Hibernate? I set sleep to 30 and Hibernate to 60 on all of my installs as users love the convenience of being able to walk away without worrying about saving their work, for an hour or a week.

This is SO frustrating
I've had this problem for about a year now; Basically, when I put my computer to sleep, it wont wake up unless I press the power button. Jiggling the mouse or pressing ANY button on the keyboard does nothing.
I have already done significant research on this, so here are the things I've already tried:
1)Checking the "Allow this device to wake the computer" and unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" In device manager. I've done this for every USB option it would allow, as well as for the mouse, keyboard, and every HID device it would allow.

2)There is no option in my BIOS for allowing/disallowing the keyboard to wake the computer, or any other device for that matter.

3)Hibernate is disabled, and hybrid sleep is not possible on my system

4)Going into my power options through control panel, selecting change plan settings on my current plan, then changing advanced settings, and setting "USB selective suspend setting" to disable

5)Plugging my mouse into different USB ports, on both the front and back

6)Updating all the drivers

7)Uninstalling and re-installing all the drivers

8)Scanned and removed all malware

9)Trying all of these over and over again
Can anyone please help me? I understand it's a hard problem since there are so many solutions, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have a Logitec M505 wireless mouse.

Thank you!

Answer:Mouse and keyboard no longer wake computer from sleep

Have you replaced the batteries in the mouse?. If you have a wired mouse try that & see if it works. If it does you may have a wireless interference problem from another device that is causing problems with the M505.

Answer:Suddenly, Win 10 desktop won't wake from sleep via USB keyboard/mouse

Hi Thenin, and Welcome to ten forums.

Can you give a list of the hardware you are using? CPU, Graphics Card, RAM, etc.

Have you tried to plug your keyboard and mouse into a different USB port?

I've had this issue twice. One on a MSI board and one on an ASUS board.

I had contacted MSI support and they verified that the board itself didn't support Wake with USB Keyboard or mouse from sleep, yet it stated it could. It would resume from sleep with a PS2 keyboard and mouse just fine.

On the ASUS board, I had the USB Keyboard and mouse plugged in to the USB 2.0 ports that use the ASMEDIA drivers along with the ESATA port on the back of my board. It stopped waking from sleep, and come to find out, Windows update ran and automatically updated the drivers for the ports. So I moved the keyboard and mouse to a different port, and it's worked fine ever since.

You can always try a different keyboard and mouse to see if there are different results.

I tried all the settings; ( hibernation, hybrid sleep, sleep, etc.) in the power settings area to no avail. My "old" xps 8500 always woke up by touching any key but I can't get the new xps 8920 to do it after a week of trying.

All of a sudden, my 64-bit Win 10 Pro (v 1511) desktop will no longer wake up from sleep via my USB keyboard or mouse. It worked perfectly for the last year until yesterday, no matter how many power cycles it went through. I shut it down last night, but after I booted up this morning and later put it to sleep, it would no longer wake up no matter what I do. There were no changes whatsoever since yesterday; no installs and no updates. I've tried a few power cycles since then, but the problem remains.

I made no changes to my power profile. I do NOT have "fast start" or hibernation enabled, and I've made no changes to my BIOS settings. All of the HIDs have "Allow this device to wake the computer" enabled as well as all USB devices. No devices are set to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" enabled.

The machine is a home-built desktop based on an ASUS Z87-A mobo with an Intel i5-4460 @ 3.20GHz. Along with it's built-in Intel HD Graphics 4600 video adapter connected via HDMI to an HD monitor, it has an AMD Radeon HD 6450 connected via an HDMI switch that's usually unswitched (i.e., not connected/not active). When active, it's connected to an HDTV, but again, that's usually not the case, and I haven't used it that way in at least a month.

The USB-2 keyboard and mouse are separately connected to a USB-3 hub that's connected to a USB-3 port on the computer. I've since tried using different USB-3 and USB-2 ports, but that ma... Read more

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.
